Latest / The Daily Sarcast / July 20th, 2026: The VP's New Baby, Andrew Tate Is The New Diddy And The Bus Breakdown
Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by the awkward turnaround when you're walking
- 0:05down the street and realize that the blue dot on the map is going the wrong way.
- 0:10Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it the most never use it. Anonymous.
- 0:18Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:24I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today is July 20th, 2026.
- 0:28Like, thank God we're able to be outside again.
- 0:31And I don't know about you, but, like, a lot of people that I know were like,
- 0:34what are you talking about? I was just outside, like, normal.
- 0:37I was being so weird, and I was pretty much inside the past couple days,
- 0:42and yesterday was the first day I was, like, actually going outside.
- 0:46I don't know if I'm just, like, a psychopath or just somebody that's,
- 0:49like, conscious of my health.
- 0:51And, like, I'm not trying to be passive-aggressive in any way,
- 0:54but, like, that whole wildfire situation was very rough and intense.
- 0:59So, speaking of very rough and intense and real news, Andrew and Tristan Tate
- 1:06are back in the headlines.
- 1:08Not for good reasons. And if you don't know who Andrew Tate is,
- 1:12he's this, like, super famous podcaster.
- 1:15I don't even know why, but I just know that he's a super famous podcaster.
- 1:19But now he's in the news for, like, really bad reasons.
- 1:24The brothers just got arrested in Miami after the cops in the UK were like,
- 1:29can you please go after these guys?
- 1:32They were arrested for allegations of rape, human trafficking,
- 1:37and assault. So like very ditty vibes.
- 1:41The brothers obviously deny any wrongdoing, and they've continued to fight against all of this.
- 1:47The Tate brothers have been dealing with legal battles across multiple countries,
- 1:52including Romania and the UK.
- 1:55And now the US has become the latest stop on what might be the least relaxing world tour ever created,
- 2:02like literally most people just use their passport to collect stamps and like
- 2:07go to a lot of different airports and take pictures in front of landmarks and
- 2:11the tape brothers have somehow turned those into a legal document with frequent flyer miles.
- 2:17Here's the strangest thing about internet fame. You can build such a massive
- 2:22following and sell millions of dollars in courses about confidence and success,
- 2:27and convince people that you have life completely figured out,
- 2:32but you also at the same time could be the main character in an international legal drama.
- 2:38Right now, the biggest mystery isn't where they're going to go next.
- 2:42It's whether any country is still accepting new applications for the Andrew
- 2:46Tate Legal Saga World Tour.
- 2:48So this is just a little reminder that if somebody seems like they have it all
- 2:52figured out they're the people who have at least figured out.
- 2:57J.D. and Usha Vance just welcomed a baby boy this week making history because
- 3:02it's the first time for more than 150 years that a sitting vice president has
- 3:08had a child born while in office.
- 3:10This is such a strange history, fun fact.
- 3:14Like, the fact that no VP has had a baby in over 150 years is crazy, right?
- 3:23The Vances announced the birth of their son, and now the White House has a new
- 3:27little tiny resident whose main job is basically just to be adorable and occasionally
- 3:33interrupting important meetings with the most powerful people in the country.
- 3:37So as we all know, Costco used to be a place where your parents went to buy
- 3:41a 48-pack of toilet paper and a rotisserie chicken that somehow still cost the
- 3:48same as it did exactly 20 years ago.
- 3:51But thanks to TikTok, Costco has become a full-blown lifestyle brand.
- 3:56Suddenly, everyone has a Costco must-buy list.
- 4:00There are influencers showing you the best seasonal items, they're ranking snacks,
- 4:05reviewing kirkland products and acting like they just discovered a hidden treasure
- 4:09chest instead of a warehouse full of mayonnaise the size of a bathtub,
- 4:14costco has become what people are calling a tiktok monoculture where millions
- 4:19of people are suddenly obsessed with the same products at the same time,
- 4:24like the other day someone just posted on tiktok about like some random pair
- 4:29of sweatpants that they found and then overnight everyone is like running to
- 4:34costco like there's a Black Friday sale on them.
- 4:38But Costco has kind of cracked the code, though, right?
- 4:42Other companies spend millions trying to make people obsessed with their products,
- 4:46and Costco just puts a giant jar of something on a shelf and just kind of,
- 4:51like, lets the internet do free advertising for them.
- 4:55I mean, Costco is a pretty cool place. My mom used to take me and my sister
- 5:00there for lunch literally all the time.
- 5:02She would just have us go around the store at least twice and got every single sample that they had.
- 5:09I mean, it works, right?
- 5:11The American dream used to be owning a house, but now it's getting a Costco
- 5:15membership and finding the limited edition item before it disappears.
- 5:21In Lindsay life, so if you were listening to the pod last week,
- 5:25you know that I was down the shore at the Jersey Shore with my family.
- 5:29So on Saturday, I took the bus back to New york i actually ran into like a family
- 5:36friend who i may or may not have seen in like at least 15 years but that's besides
- 5:41the point so i get on the bus with her,
- 5:44and we're almost back to the city we're like almost at the lincoln tunnel and our bus breaks down,
- 5:52and he like our bus driver like pulls over in the beginning
- 5:57and he stops for a few minutes but then he like goes to check on something and
- 6:01like these bus drivers don't speak English so you hear him like babbling in
- 6:05like Chinese or something you're like I don't know what this guy is saying,
- 6:09whatever but he like keeps driving on but then like every few minutes he keeps
- 6:13pulling off and then at one point he like pulls off and he like.
- 6:19Something explodes on him so he has all this stuff like all over his shirt we're
- 6:23like well this is probably not okay,
- 6:26but then he like keeps getting back into the bus and like driving so we're like
- 6:30well maybe it is okay maybe we can get back into the city,
- 6:34and the girl in front of me was like i'm calling an uber but i'm like the uber
- 6:38is literally 60 like it's so expensive anyway finally he pulls over to the side
- 6:44right before the tunnel and was like we we can't get any further there so.
- 6:49It was either like call an uber for 50 or wait for another like 15 20 minutes
- 6:54for another bus to come take us,
- 6:56so me and my family friend were like let's just like wait for the bus to come
- 7:01so we waited like 20 minutes for this bus to come this little tiny bus shows
- 7:06up like a little school bus situation to get us through lincoln tunnel,
- 7:10and we're all like cheering for this bus literally took me like five hours to
- 7:16get back into the city just for me to go on some like little mediocre date,
- 7:22but that's a story for another time you can check out my tiktok if you want
- 7:27to know about my latest dating adventures thing of the week this week is the
- 7:32world cup is finally over,
- 7:35what feels like it's been literally forever now the world cup is finally over,
- 7:41it wrapped up this past weekend, which means the entire world can finally unclench.
- 7:48For the last month, literally every conversation has somehow become about soccer.
- 7:54People who literally haven't kicked a soccer ball around since middle school
- 7:57were suddenly like experts on the game.
- 8:01Every office in this country and around the world have had at least one person
- 8:06secretly watching a game during a meeting.
- 8:09Every sports bar suddenly had flags from countries nobody has thought about in years.
- 8:15Every person you know discovered they're either one-quarter Italian,
- 8:21one-eighth Argentinian, or like spiritually Spanish whenever their team started winning.
- 8:28The best part of the World Cup wasn't even about the soccer.
- 8:32It's watching adults lose their mind over a sport, then completely ignore the
- 8:38other three years and 11 months.
- 8:41Jerseys come out of storage and group chats are literally war zones and people
- 8:47wake up at 6 a.m on a tuesday because like you know that's when belgium played,
- 8:53and then the tournament just ends and everyone just like puts their jerseys
- 8:57away forgets every player's name maybe except for one and goes right back to
- 9:03pretending that soccer doesn't even exist again.
- 9:07So congratulations to Spain on winning it all.
- 9:10Congratulations to Argentina for making it an incredible run for them.
- 9:15And congratulations to the rest of us for reviving a month where every bar had
- 9:20at least one person screaming at a TV in a language that nobody knows.
- 9:26See you all again in four years where we magically become soccer experts again.
- 9:31Cooking tip of the day. If you put a raw onion in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes
- 9:37before slicing it, it helps reducing crying.
- 9:42You'll still cry though, but like over something else.
- 9:46Feedback, comments, questions, and is Jewish by looking for a date,
- 9:49email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com.
- 9:52Thanks so much for listening. Have a great Monday and I will talk to you guys tomorrow.
