- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello.
- 0:01Speaker 2: My name is Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud Order
- 0:05Speaker 2: Order Kerney Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before we
- 0:08Speaker 2: get started on She's on the Money podcast, I would
- 0:11Speaker 2: like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land of
- 0:14Speaker 2: which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country, acknowledging
- 0:18Speaker 2: the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming through
- 0:23Speaker 2: as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing and
- 0:27Speaker 2: the storytelling of you to make a difference for today
- 0:31Speaker 2: and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money podcast that
- 1:00Speaker 1: makes personal finance feel a little less daunting and a
- 1:03Speaker 1: lot more doable. Today, my friends, it is Friday, which
- 1:06Speaker 1: means it's time to get our little team together and
- 1:09Speaker 1: celebrate you the ingredible she is on the Money community.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Today is discreed. She is going to be sharing her
- 1:15Speaker 1: favorite money wins from the community. Beck has a few
- 1:18Speaker 1: Brooke tips that I'm excited to hear about. She hasn't
- 1:21Speaker 1: let any cat out of the bag yet, so we
- 1:23Speaker 1: don't know where they're coming from. We don't know how
- 1:25Speaker 1: rogue they're going to be. We don't know if we
- 1:26Speaker 1: have to edit them out because of legalities, but but
- 1:30Speaker 1: we're here for it. We're going to be talking this
- 1:32Speaker 1: week about how to be smart with a payout that
- 1:35Speaker 1: you receive, and we're going to be unpacking something that
- 1:37Speaker 1: you slid into our DMS about this week, we're chatting
- 1:40Speaker 1: about how to handle a friend who asks to be
- 1:42Speaker 1: reimbursed for something that they got for free.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Ooh, that's interesting.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I can't wait to read that one out. But before
- 1:51Speaker 1: we get there.
- 1:53Speaker 5: It's just creachy. Yes, how was your week? Let's start
- 1:56Speaker 5: happy spring? I feel like day one September. First, I
- 2:00Speaker 5: was like, we must spring clean everything.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And then you came wearing black for the first time
- 2:06Speaker 1: I've seen all.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Literally I know that in your spring clean.
- 2:10Speaker 5: I literally did, I haven't.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Worn this it like yeah, and it was cute, so
- 2:14Speaker 1: I know where you put it on.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Thank you. And because it's cold, it's spring, but it's cold.
- 2:19Speaker 5: It hailed at our house this week. It looks like crazy.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I had all of the pets basically on my head,
- 2:27Speaker 1: like when it was really windy, I like woke up
- 2:29Speaker 1: in the middle of the night because there was a
- 2:31Speaker 1: dog climbing over my chest, and then when I looked around,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I realized that on either side of my head I
- 2:37Speaker 1: had a cat, and then the dog was trying to
- 2:40Speaker 1: lay on top of me, and I was like, what
- 2:42Speaker 1: is personal space?
- 2:43Speaker 5: She doesn't exist.
- 2:46Speaker 4: It was scary, though, I told were they scared?
- 2:49Speaker 1: They weren't like shaking scared, but they were definitely concerned
- 2:53Speaker 1: and like, Mum, help us, help us. Yeah, and both
- 2:57Speaker 1: of those cats they're not outside cats, they're only the inside.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So I'm like, what are you worried about. Nothing's ever happened.
- 3:03Speaker 1: No one's going to put you outside.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you're fine, don't even stress totally.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And then Lucy's being a little princess because it's been
- 3:11Speaker 1: raining so much over the last few weeks. She refuses
- 3:15Speaker 1: to go outside. So when you're like you need to
- 3:17Speaker 1: go to the bathroom, dog, she's like, oh, no, thank you,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I'd prefer to get a uti. That's all good, that's
- 3:22Speaker 1: so good, And you're just like, go outside. So I'm
- 3:25Speaker 1: literally picking up this loaf of a dog, carrying her
- 3:28Speaker 1: up the backsteps, putting her on the grass where she
- 3:31Speaker 1: looks at me like I'm trying to murder her and
- 3:34Speaker 1: being like go to the bathroom and she's like a
- 3:36Speaker 1: quick quick and then runs inside. It's an experience.
- 3:39Speaker 4: We're scary out there.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But I mean, Jess said the other day, she's like
- 3:42Speaker 1: I would do that if I was I'm not.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Going I'd be like I heard think, So the bath
- 3:50Speaker 5: bat's looking pretty good to me.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Right, don't tell Lucy she's a dog. She's not aware.
- 3:55Speaker 1: She's not aware. Beck, what have you been up to
- 3:57Speaker 1: this week?
- 3:58Speaker 6: I also was really scared about that win. That was
- 4:00Speaker 6: really weird because my share house is like like literally
- 4:03Speaker 6: the front wall that is because it's like two story
- 4:06Speaker 6: that there's like a room upstairs and then downstairs is
- 4:09Speaker 6: like the you know, the front entrance, and that wall
- 4:12Speaker 6: does not really attached to the rest of the house.
- 4:14Speaker 4: So it's like what it's.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Like any second hour, this is the front of the
- 4:20Speaker 6: house is gonna be away, and which is fine, Like
- 4:23Speaker 6: we love it there, so we'll take it.
- 4:24Speaker 4: We'll take a house as no front whole wall.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You have known for not complaining, not not missing, you'd
- 4:34Speaker 1: be like, damn, I really didn't want this to happen. Yes,
- 4:38Speaker 1: this is our situation.
- 4:40Speaker 6: More no stress, But do you mind if we get
- 4:42Speaker 6: a wall on, but we're no bother.
- 4:45Speaker 1: But yeah, I was really popping out and just getting
- 4:48Speaker 1: a tarp and fixed it. It's all good.
- 4:50Speaker 5: YEA beautiful open concept front of the front house.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Beautiful art dacer.
- 4:55Speaker 6: I don't know if you've seen my window right now,
- 4:57Speaker 6: because my window was broken months ago. But it's it's
- 5:00Speaker 6: just duct taped, and I duck tape everything. It absolutely
- 5:04Speaker 6: does and there's no water penetrating that duct tape. So
- 5:07Speaker 6: but you's fixed because so exactly now, It's been really
- 5:10Speaker 6: a really lovely week, really chill. I kind of do nothing,
- 5:14Speaker 6: So that's me.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I love that being nice.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You sometimes need weeks like that. Yeah, well, I'm hoping
- 5:20Speaker 1: that your broke tips are a little bit more exciting
- 5:22Speaker 1: than the week that you've had.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Then, well, thank you so much. I think they might
- 5:26Speaker 6: not be. But what did you How was your week?
- 5:28Speaker 5: Oh?
- 5:28Speaker 1: My week was great. I had pets all over my head.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I have been working my life away. We have a
- 5:34Speaker 1: master class coming out. She has just been announced that
- 5:37Speaker 1: the Investing master Class is going live very soon. The
- 5:41Speaker 1: wait list has just opened for that, and I'm just
- 5:44Speaker 1: I feel like this month is like my month. It's
- 5:48Speaker 1: like everything we've been working towards for the last twelve months.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Like in the background, we've been building this platform and
- 5:53Speaker 1: like trying to make it absolutely everything we want it
- 5:55Speaker 1: to be more. And now I'm like a little bit
- 5:58Speaker 1: scared because like everyone's going to have access to it,
- 6:01Speaker 1: you know. So that's been really fun?
- 6:03Speaker 4: How exciting? Yeah, you start fun?
- 6:07Speaker 5: I'm so scared.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But that is okay. I mean the whole team. I
- 6:10Speaker 1: feel like so many people message me, and they have
- 6:12Speaker 1: been messaging me while I have been posting about this,
- 6:14Speaker 1: like thee when do you stop? I'm like, I'm sorry,
- 6:17Speaker 1: when does my team stop? Because like that wasn't me, friend,
- 6:20Speaker 1: Like I didn't do all of this, Like thank god
- 6:24Speaker 1: they're here, because otherwise it just never would have gotten
- 6:26Speaker 1: out the door. That's why I've been talking about it
- 6:28Speaker 1: for three years and saying it's coming, it's coming, it's coming.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It's finally here.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Finally, it's finally here.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And the team Jess is gonna laugh at this. The
- 6:36Speaker 1: team have not let me talk about it or say
- 6:39Speaker 1: anything online about it until we had every video recorded,
- 6:43Speaker 1: every piece of content uploaded, because they're like the you've
- 6:46Speaker 1: promised this for so long, No more promising until there's
- 6:49Speaker 1: an actual product that we can get out the door
- 6:52Speaker 1: without having you as a hurdle.
- 6:54Speaker 5: And I get that, I get that she's been a
- 6:56Speaker 5: long time coming. I'm very exciting. So I'm sure there's
- 6:58Speaker 5: a lot of people out there who are humped.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I hope so, because like I feel like I'm pumped,
- 7:03Speaker 1: I cannot wait to dive in. So let's move on
- 7:06Speaker 1: because I want to go to the Money Wins. But
- 7:07Speaker 1: before we get there, all of the information for the
- 7:09Speaker 1: Investing Masterclass is going to be in the show notes.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So go there, join our weight list because obviously if
- 7:15Speaker 1: you're on the wait list, there is a special surprise
- 7:18Speaker 1: that will end up in your inbox once it launches,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and you're only going to get it if you're there,
- 7:23Speaker 1: So go and join the wait list. I can't wait
- 7:26Speaker 1: for you guys to dive in. But speaking about things,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I can't wait for Miss jessic Ricci, what happened in
- 7:32Speaker 1: the Facebook group this week? What money Wins and confessions
- 7:35Speaker 1: A you're bringing to the table. I've got some good
- 7:37Speaker 1: ones this.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Week, and I will say we had a lot of
- 7:38Speaker 5: pet wins with plenty of pet tax being paid. So
- 7:41Speaker 5: go have a look at the thread because I love
- 7:43Speaker 5: this of cute photos in there.
- 7:44Speaker 1: This week, I feel like, because we talk about the
- 7:46Speaker 1: pet tax being necessary, people go, I have pet tax
- 7:49Speaker 1: already on my phone. I'm going to go drop it
- 7:51Speaker 1: in the thread. You are my people.
- 7:53Speaker 5: So lots of fun this week. I'm going to start
- 7:54Speaker 5: off with a money win from Melissa, who said she
- 7:57Speaker 5: bit the bullet and she asked for a pay rise.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Was really really nerve racking, but she ended up with
- 8:04Speaker 5: twenty thousands dollars extra. She never would have had it
- 8:08Speaker 5: if she didn't ask.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Great, But now now I'm thinking, like, how long do
- 8:11Speaker 6: they knowingly underpay her for?
- 8:13Speaker 5: There is that?
- 8:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but anyway, that's not what her frame it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: If we asked Melissa, was the scaries worth it, She's
- 8:20Speaker 1: gonna be like, yes, absolutely, it was worth twenty grand completely.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But would you ask someone a really awkward question for
- 8:26Speaker 1: twenty grand? I would depend I'd do it for much.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money win from Miya, who said
- 8:34Speaker 5: her top tip is to buy Father's Day gifts from
- 8:37Speaker 5: overseas when they're fifty percent off. She also recommends doing
- 8:40Speaker 5: this seasonally for clothes. She said specifically from America because
- 8:43Speaker 5: obviously they go really hard for their holidays, and you know,
- 8:46Speaker 5: they just have a lot of extra stuff, so it's
- 8:49Speaker 5: really easy and affordable for her to get it discounted.
- 8:51Speaker 5: And so many sites hip here now.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So I love that. My Father's Day gift to Steve
- 8:56Speaker 1: was that I made him a father.
- 8:58Speaker 5: So you welcome, happy father.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm the gift, like you are welcome. Are you meant
- 9:03Speaker 1: to celebrate me on Father's Day?
- 9:04Speaker 5: No?
- 9:05Speaker 6: Okay, no, arguably the hardest and most impressive gift.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Like, I don't know. I just think that literally growing
- 9:11Speaker 4: a human is probably the best gift you could nige.
- 9:14Speaker 1: You know what, I did celebrate Steve because like, I
- 9:17Speaker 1: feel like it takes a very special person to be
- 9:20Speaker 1: like a good dad, And like, I don't know, Also
- 9:23Speaker 1: about celebrating me, I picked that, you know, I picked him.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I was like, I picked you to be the dad
- 9:28Speaker 1: of my kids. This day's about me. I'm a genius.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Everybody does well in that situation. Next, I've got a
- 9:36Speaker 5: money in from Lizzie who said this is the first
- 9:38Speaker 5: fortnight where she hasn't had to dip into one of
- 9:40Speaker 5: her accounts. She's finally got her cash flow organized and
- 9:44Speaker 5: she knows on her average what she's spending each pacycle,
- 9:47Speaker 5: so now she can plan accordingly.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I love that so much.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Such a good win and a good reminder to review
- 9:53Speaker 5: everything if you haven't already done that recently. Next, I've
- 9:57Speaker 5: got a money win from Jessica. This one's for years back,
- 10:00Speaker 5: great name. She was at her local NQR, which is
- 10:03Speaker 5: we mentioned it last week on the show, at chain
- 10:05Speaker 5: in Victoria selling not quite right products, and she found
- 10:08Speaker 5: a six pack of mini Tonic waters on sale for
- 10:11Speaker 5: a dollar. She's since returned the cans for the ten
- 10:14Speaker 5: cent refund at the recycling depot, so she effectively paid
- 10:18Speaker 5: forty cents for six candle drink.
- 10:20Speaker 1: How good is down Queen. Also, those tiny bottles of
- 10:26Speaker 1: tonic are so expensive crazy.
- 10:28Speaker 5: A dollar for six is amazing and very very smart
- 10:31Speaker 5: to then return those cans.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Yes, smart, if you got like a twenty four pack
- 10:37Speaker 6: of something you could even be making money doing potentially.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like saving stacking. I'm just so excited about it.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's like we're all talking about the other day on
- 10:45Speaker 1: the podcast where someone bought a gift card for their
- 10:48Speaker 1: like fuel and then also got points, and I was
- 10:51Speaker 1: just like you are smart.
- 10:53Speaker 5: So clever, extreme couponing basically. Next, I've got money in
- 10:57Speaker 5: from Molly, who said a local bookstore in her area
- 11:00Speaker 5: was closing down and dumping a ton of high quality
- 11:03Speaker 5: books into skips and dumpsters. She spent most of her
- 11:06Speaker 5: weekends salvaging them before the rain and all the rubbish
- 11:09Speaker 5: being collected, and she now has thousands of beautiful books.
- 11:13Speaker 5: She said. The best party is she recently opened a small,
- 11:15Speaker 5: preloved bookstore a few months ago.
- 11:17Speaker 1: No, she didn't help perfect.
- 11:19Speaker 5: So she can now triple the size of the store.
- 11:22Speaker 5: And she did say, I doubt I'll ever get this
- 11:24Speaker 5: lucky ever again.
- 11:26Speaker 1: That is all so perfectly timed. That's the universe.
- 11:30Speaker 5: I reckon the universe providing. But also I've been getting
- 11:34Speaker 5: a lot of tiktoks of stores dumping product and I
- 11:38Speaker 5: just want to say, why do we do that? Like literally,
- 11:41Speaker 5: they'll take perfectly good things and throw them out because
- 11:45Speaker 5: maybe they were returns or you know, they're out of
- 11:47Speaker 5: season or whatever, and they just like they have to
- 11:50Speaker 5: destroy them. I think they ruins, like when you could
- 11:54Speaker 5: donate them, like share the dignity they put together these
- 11:58Speaker 5: handbags And I'm telling you, right now and if it's
- 12:00Speaker 5: not like an essential, like it's a hand cream or
- 12:03Speaker 5: like some makeup or something, as long as it's not used,
- 12:07Speaker 5: Like yeah, those would be perfect.
- 12:10Speaker 1: For them to be. Like I don't know, I feel
- 12:12Speaker 1: like the share of the dignity bags. One of my
- 12:13Speaker 1: favorite things about them is like they obviously give women
- 12:16Speaker 1: back and people back their dignity in times that they're
- 12:19Speaker 1: experiencing challenge and having like a nice little piece of
- 12:23Speaker 1: makeup or like some little special treat in there. That's
- 12:26Speaker 1: beyond like making sure you have the essentials, Like why
- 12:30Speaker 1: can't companies just partner and not throw good product out?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Like it frustrates me beyond belief.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Like the video I saw specifically, I remember there was
- 12:40Speaker 5: like hair tools and they'd cut the cords and stuff,
- 12:42Speaker 5: and I was like, I get that maybe you couldn't
- 12:44Speaker 5: donate something if it was returned and opened, because as
- 12:47Speaker 5: you were saying, like tool, but could you not just
- 12:49Speaker 5: donate it or put it in a box out the
- 12:51Speaker 5: front somewhere just like a freeze sign on it and
- 12:54Speaker 5: let people if you want to peepally, It just is
- 12:56Speaker 5: crazy to me that you would throw it out like.
- 12:59Speaker 1: You no, even if you donate it, Like I know,
- 13:01Speaker 1: if you donate to the Salvos and Electronic good they
- 13:04Speaker 1: will test it, like they safety test it before they
- 13:07Speaker 1: sell it, So like that's not on you, And like
- 13:10Speaker 1: I get that probably like Sephora doesn't want to have
- 13:13Speaker 1: like a free box out the front, but surely you
- 13:16Speaker 1: could do a sneaky you know, making sure it goes
- 13:18Speaker 1: somewhere else, Like yes, you've posted on your TikTok a
- 13:21Speaker 1: number of times like go to this charity shop because
- 13:23Speaker 1: there's heaps of dish stuff and you just know that
- 13:26Speaker 1: like in the background Dish has been like, hey, this
- 13:29Speaker 1: is old stock or old product that we can't sell,
- 13:32Speaker 1: but they're not destroying it. They're sending it to a
- 13:35Speaker 1: second hand store, which I know some brands might see
- 13:38Speaker 1: is like oh but at Devalues, No, no, no, I
- 13:41Speaker 1: am more likely to purchase from you because I know
- 13:43Speaker 1: that you're not taking the mickey and slashing stuff up
- 13:46Speaker 1: just because you don't want it to be at a
- 13:48Speaker 1: charity shop.
- 13:49Speaker 6: Like absolutely, I'm gonna spend thousands of dollars in a
- 13:52Speaker 6: place that I know is actually given back to the community.
- 13:55Speaker 1: That actually has good ethics.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Have I talked about good and fuggly before, No, what's
- 13:59Speaker 6: good in fuggly it's like a frim bed company that
- 14:01Speaker 6: kind of like sell all the ugly fruits that no
- 14:03Speaker 6: one wants to buy.
- 14:06Speaker 5: That's so cute. Yeah, that's it for me this week.
- 14:08Speaker 6: That's your mind.
- 14:10Speaker 1: If I absolutely no, turn so good and fugly, that's
- 14:14Speaker 1: just like a little bones.
- 14:15Speaker 6: Yeah that's true. Actually, it's not really a broke tip,
- 14:17Speaker 6: because although they are doing really good stuff for the
- 14:20Speaker 6: environment and the planet, it's probably on par with.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Are you saying I have to pay the same as
- 14:25Speaker 1: normal carrots? Possibly you don't know what I would do it.
- 14:29Speaker 6: Yeah, because they're they're all the same, and you often
- 14:32Speaker 6: get like more carrot for your carrot because you got
- 14:34Speaker 6: like a little weird growth on the carrot.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I like it Picasso.
- 14:38Speaker 4: So maybe that is a broke tip.
- 14:40Speaker 1: My mum grew carrots actually complete side note, and they
- 14:44Speaker 1: looked really fancy, like up the top, like heaps of
- 14:47Speaker 1: like carrot top, right, and so they pull them out,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and honestly, the carrots were real fat, and so like
- 14:54Speaker 1: you think, as you're going to pull them out, like
- 14:55Speaker 1: the top is like, you know, indicative of a good carrot.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm thinking like this is going to be and then
- 15:00Speaker 1: there were like two or three centimeters, so their dog,
- 15:05Speaker 1: Sunday used them as a dog toy, Like.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Did they come to a point still or is it too.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Like no, no, no, it was just I think the
- 15:13Speaker 1: word here that I'm thinking of is probably really inappropriate,
- 15:16Speaker 1: but like very fitting. It was very chody, I understand.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I was like, no one wants those carrots, and so
- 15:23Speaker 1: the dog was very excited to get a little treaty
- 15:26Speaker 1: treat What are your broke tips for today? Back?
- 15:31Speaker 6: Okay, So this one comes from Taylor, who's prepping for
- 15:35Speaker 6: a bodybuilding in competition. All go you and it's very
- 15:38Speaker 6: actually hard to do. I was listening to a podcast
- 15:41Speaker 6: about this and it's it's just like the most intense
- 15:43Speaker 6: diet and exercise program anyway. Great.
- 15:45Speaker 4: I like how.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Bodybuilding has made it to the broke tips, very related.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I love this.
- 15:51Speaker 6: Basically, Taylor says that they put water in their yoga,
- 15:55Speaker 6: which I know it doesn't sound great, but because it's
- 15:58Speaker 6: already quite like thick and creamy, and you probably could
- 16:00Speaker 6: get away with adding water to it, and it extends it.
- 16:03Speaker 4: It keeps you full.
- 16:04Speaker 6: It's quite feeling, and it does not even taste that bad,
- 16:07Speaker 6: so I would recommend it has no taste. Water has
- 16:10Speaker 6: no taste, and you can add things to add more taste.
- 16:13Speaker 6: But basically it's probably a good way to just like
- 16:15Speaker 6: keep your yoga lasting long because it's actually quite expensive
- 16:18Speaker 6: these days.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yoga is insane. Yoga luxury item. You know what's more
- 16:22Speaker 1: of a luxury item?
- 16:24Speaker 5: Kids yogurts.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I love a kids. You're like, why are they so expensive?
- 16:28Speaker 1: And in the teeny tiny pouches like Harvey's not on
- 16:32Speaker 1: them yet. I just see my nieces and nephews get them,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, I'm never going to financially recover from
- 16:37Speaker 1: this like that, and their consumption of berries in off season.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Insane when I get them burried from.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I don't know their parents who pay seven dollars upon.
- 16:46Speaker 4: It checks out.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Our producer is shaking her head because she has two
- 16:51Speaker 1: tiny humans, and I think she knows this all too well.
- 16:55Speaker 6: Sexcellon comes from one of my friends. She said that,
- 16:59Speaker 6: so right now, there's like a hard rubbish collection. I
- 17:01Speaker 6: feel like I've probably maybe mentioned some variation of hard
- 17:05Speaker 6: rubbish before, but I really recommend like googling where the
- 17:09Speaker 6: council hard rubbishes are in your state or city and
- 17:12Speaker 6: just like making a day out of it, Like we've
- 17:14Speaker 6: got a hallway table. Someone got a lounge, you can
- 17:17Speaker 6: get a fair way table.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I love that.
- 17:20Speaker 1: That's something that when I lived in a sharehouse. You're
- 17:22Speaker 1: not getting me to spend money on that. Absolutely not
- 17:25Speaker 1: absolutely not like no way, but like would it be
- 17:28Speaker 1: really handy for keys and just dumping something? Yeah, exactly,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I want that, but I don't want to pay for that.
- 17:34Speaker 6: I think hallway table. And also you know there's like
- 17:36Speaker 6: toilet brushes. I don't think i've.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Ever Please tell me, I have no doubt that you'd be.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Like, that is good rush. That's not a hard rubbish.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Rush.
- 17:51Speaker 1: That should have gone straight in the beginning. If anyone's
- 17:53Speaker 1: put that out for hard rubbish, I can't. I can't
- 17:56Speaker 1: loud enough to be.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Put out for hard rubbish. You know that that brushes
- 17:58Speaker 5: seems quietly really shit.
- 18:02Speaker 4: That's how you know it works. And that's no but
- 18:05Speaker 4: basically just.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Tried and true. Yes, a brand new one from the
- 18:09Speaker 1: supermarket that's not been tested.
- 18:12Speaker 6: You could tell it was tested, so I took it
- 18:14Speaker 6: home with me.
- 18:14Speaker 4: No, just kidding, I was.
- 18:15Speaker 6: Only what I meant to say was, those are two
- 18:18Speaker 6: things that I've never I don't think anyone in the world.
- 18:20Speaker 6: I've never seen anyone buy these items, but they just
- 18:22Speaker 6: always exist somehow in your space. I can almost guarantee
- 18:25Speaker 6: that both Jess and I have both been the people
- 18:28Speaker 6: in the sharehouse that buy the toilet.
- 18:33Speaker 5: That okay, because friend, oh the magic Fairy came the toilet.
- 18:38Speaker 4: My library is always done. That's not equal distribution.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I remember a housemate one time, and this is the
- 18:47Speaker 1: same housemate that the infamous housemate Yea borrowed my underwing
- 18:52Speaker 1: so wild. I remember her looking at me one time
- 18:55Speaker 1: when we were in the kitchen frustrated and I was like, oh,
- 18:58Speaker 1: you're all right, and she's like, we're out of olive oil.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And I was like, we you mean my shelf in
- 19:04Speaker 1: the pan trees olive oil is empty. And she just
- 19:07Speaker 1: was so pressed that the apparently communal olive oil that
- 19:13Speaker 1: I did not know about was communal was empty. And
- 19:17Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, like have you run out of it?
- 19:20Speaker 1: Like you can borrow mine, and she's like, no, the
- 19:21Speaker 1: olive oil is empty. And I'm like, no, there's not
- 19:24Speaker 1: the olive oil, my olive oil. And then there should
- 19:27Speaker 1: be your olive oil. And at the time, like olive
- 19:30Speaker 1: oil was expensive, Like I remember it was like eight
- 19:32Speaker 1: bucks a bottle, and like that was a lot. Do
- 19:35Speaker 1: you know how much olive oil is now? I only
- 19:37Speaker 1: fell off my tree when I paid twenty three dollars
- 19:42Speaker 1: for a bottle of olive oil the other day, and
- 19:44Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, and this is just like the
- 19:46Speaker 1: stock standard olive oil. Like anyway, I could go on
- 19:49Speaker 1: a round. But olive oil not a broke tip.
- 19:51Speaker 4: No, absolutely not.
- 19:52Speaker 6: If you can hold it with one hand comfortably, you
- 19:54Speaker 6: should not be paying twenty three dollars.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. If it doesn't have a handle on.
- 19:59Speaker 4: T with a little three little thing.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Anyway, I cannot No, we're not buying that's olive oil anymore.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I'm so sorry really, but.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Anyway, the whole table back to my broke tip, my
- 20:15Speaker 6: personal one. There's what just happened upon on TikTok. It's
- 20:17Speaker 6: called Nielsen i Q. It's an app. I downloaded it
- 20:22Speaker 6: because it said on the TikTok that you can scan
- 20:25Speaker 6: your groceries to get vouchers. I'm assuming that, yeah, immediately
- 20:31Speaker 6: got me. But then basically you have to go in
- 20:33Speaker 6: you have to fill out like a survey just to
- 20:35Speaker 6: see your their target market, and then if you are,
- 20:38Speaker 6: then you get the opportunity to scan your groceries for vouchers.
- 20:41Speaker 4: So I was not target.
- 20:43Speaker 6: Even though that's not fair, it's not and I feel
- 20:47Speaker 6: like I'm very I think I might have to change
- 20:49Speaker 6: who I am. But I would recommend to anyone who's listening,
- 20:53Speaker 6: try just download it see if you could possibly be
- 20:56Speaker 6: you know who they're looking for, and you might just
- 20:58Speaker 6: score yourself some vouchers. I don't know what these vouches before.
- 21:01Speaker 6: I didn't get that far, but I just knew the
- 21:03Speaker 6: vouchers are present.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I like that. I will do some further investigating. When
- 21:07Speaker 1: you said I'm not the average person, do you genuinely
- 21:11Speaker 1: believe that the average person would take a toilet brush
- 21:14Speaker 1: from hard rawish?
- 21:17Speaker 7: Who?
- 21:18Speaker 1: I think?
- 21:18Speaker 7: So?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Is that the line?
- 21:20Speaker 5: It takes all types.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Baby.
- 21:23Speaker 4: They didn't ask me that.
- 21:24Speaker 1: They were like, would you take yeah, and they were
- 21:26Speaker 1: like that.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Was what excluded.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what got you kicked out.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Okay, Well that makes sense.
- 21:31Speaker 1: All right, I love it. Picasso. Let's go to a
- 21:33Speaker 1: really quick break on the flip side. We're going to
- 21:35Speaker 1: be talking about a juicy money dilemma about how to
- 21:37Speaker 1: be smart with a payout that you receive. But then
- 21:40Speaker 1: we get to have a chat about a spicier topic,
- 21:42Speaker 1: something you slid into our dms about this week about
- 21:45Speaker 1: how to handle a friend who asked to be reimbursed
- 21:48Speaker 1: for something that they got for free.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Crazy.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I can't wait.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 21:58Speaker 5: money telemma.
- 22:00Speaker 8: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 22:03Speaker 8: can't solve? The Sheese on the Money Team is here
- 22:05Speaker 8: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 22:09Speaker 8: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 22:11Speaker 8: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 22:15Speaker 8: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 22:17Speaker 8: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 22:19Speaker 8: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 22:24Speaker 7: Hi, ladies, my fiance and I have recently been paid
- 22:28Speaker 7: out a sixty thousand dollars insurance settlement and we're wondering
- 22:32Speaker 7: what is the best thing to do with this money.
- 22:35Speaker 7: We currently have no debt other than our mortgage, which
- 22:39Speaker 7: is the house that we live in. We don't have
- 22:42Speaker 7: any money invested in stocks or property. So we're wondering
- 22:47Speaker 7: if we should whack this money on our home loan
- 22:49Speaker 7: invest or use it as a nest egg for when
- 22:52Speaker 7: we decide to have our first baby.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 22:56Speaker 1: This is an interesting one because even though you own
- 22:59Speaker 1: your own house and you said that you don't have
- 23:01Speaker 1: any investments, do you have an emergency fund? My friend?
- 23:05Speaker 1: What does that look like? What are your savings accounts
- 23:09Speaker 1: looking I just have a lot of questions.
- 23:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I don reminder that we can't provide your personal advice,
- 23:13Speaker 5: so this is just a general chat. We can't tell you.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yeah, no we can't, But I do want to know
- 23:17Speaker 1: if you came into sixty grand, what are you doing
- 23:19Speaker 1: with it.
- 23:20Speaker 6: My situation is very different, but I would obviously like.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Well, you don't have to disclaim with that. We already
- 23:24Speaker 1: knew you were the type of girl who gets toilet
- 23:26Speaker 1: brush from out rubbishes.
- 23:28Speaker 6: And I would be using that money to buy possibly more.
- 23:33Speaker 6: But I think I would definitely treat myself. I reckon,
- 23:37Speaker 6: I'd put like ten towards treating myself and going on
- 23:39Speaker 6: a holiday and treating my friends and go to the pub,
- 23:42Speaker 6: you know, doing all these things, and then I'd like ten.
- 23:45Speaker 1: She's like and treating my friends like you're just so
- 23:48Speaker 1: happy to look after everybody else.
- 23:50Speaker 6: Oh that's so sweet, and you know it's the most
- 23:54Speaker 6: of the joy comes from the people you surround yourself with.
- 23:56Speaker 6: So if I'm just living my best life but no
- 23:58Speaker 6: one else is not happy, I probably put ten k
- 24:00Speaker 6: in savings, ten k in investing.
- 24:04Speaker 4: So do you think that's good?
- 24:05Speaker 5: Anyway?
- 24:06Speaker 1: This is not me. This is about what you would do.
- 24:11Speaker 6: Ten k in fixing my car and getting myself things
- 24:14Speaker 6: that I like. You know, I probably should now I
- 24:17Speaker 6: should be better with my money, but I still haven't, like,
- 24:18Speaker 6: you know, gotten a really good quality like maybe just
- 24:21Speaker 6: buy a whole new car because.
- 24:22Speaker 4: It is so bad.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But you could with that amount, I really could, absolutely could.
- 24:25Speaker 6: So just fix up little things like get a whole
- 24:28Speaker 6: new wardrobe, get like really good bed sheets, you know,
- 24:31Speaker 6: things like that, and then the rest, you.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Know what, I'd probably treat myself. Honestly, I think I
- 24:36Speaker 4: probably would.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Treat spending sixty grand on herself. I love it. Let's
- 24:39Speaker 1: flip the table, though. On the other side of the
- 24:42Speaker 1: table is sitting Mistress Creechy. If you came into sixty
- 24:45Speaker 1: grand to day, what are you doing with it?
- 24:47Speaker 5: Team boring over here with David, were ten grand into
- 24:55Speaker 5: my emergency fund because one of my goals that I'm
- 24:57Speaker 5: working on right now is increasing one of my goals
- 25:04Speaker 5: is to increase my emergency funds. The ten around were
- 25:06Speaker 5: kind of white. What I wanted to do, I would
- 25:10Speaker 5: I'd probably split the difference, then invest half and put
- 25:13Speaker 5: half in my house deposit, and that would be it.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Like I would just literally in one hand out the
- 25:17Speaker 5: other to goals and stuff.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Basically, are you spoiling yourself?
- 25:22Speaker 5: Probably not really.
- 25:23Speaker 4: You wouln't even get uber it. What's one nut?
- 25:25Speaker 5: I mean, you know what. I was already in a budget,
- 25:29Speaker 5: so I got actually not quite close, but I got
- 25:31Speaker 5: four grand back on my tax I said this last
- 25:33Speaker 5: week must be nice, honestly, as I thought I was
- 25:36Speaker 5: gonna earn money. But I did buy myself a tax
- 25:38Speaker 5: time treat. I bought a projector. So I feel like
- 25:41Speaker 5: I would do something like that. I would die okay
- 25:43Speaker 5: if yeah, yeah, but nothing crazy.
- 25:46Speaker 1: But I love this because I asked you back and
- 25:49Speaker 1: then I asked you yes, and they were wildly different.
- 25:52Speaker 1: So what is the best thing to do with a settlement?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Is actually really subjective and what you do with it
- 25:58Speaker 1: is completely up to you. And that's not why you
- 26:01Speaker 1: wrote in you've got a mortgage, what I would be
- 26:03Speaker 1: doing if you want to get the best bang for
- 26:06Speaker 1: your buck, like you've got sixty grand, do some maths,
- 26:10Speaker 1: like obviously, put your values over the top of this.
- 26:14Speaker 1: And we've just seen a really good example of what
- 26:16Speaker 1: values look like in different human beings. And I can't
- 26:20Speaker 1: tell you what yours are.
- 26:21Speaker 5: But if you're.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Looking for advice on like financially, what's the best decision,
- 26:25Speaker 1: do some maths. What does sixty thousand dollars in the
- 26:28Speaker 1: share market look like in thirty years? What does it
- 26:31Speaker 1: look like in your superannuation? What does it look like
- 26:34Speaker 1: sitting in your offset account against your mortgage. Obviously you've
- 26:37Speaker 1: got some plans that you gave us a little bit
- 26:39Speaker 1: of an insight into, like is it for a future baby?
- 26:43Speaker 1: What is a future baby going to cost you? We
- 26:45Speaker 1: have a heap of episodes around how to budget for
- 26:47Speaker 1: your first baby and what that looks like. So dividing
- 26:51Speaker 1: it up based on your values is probably what's going
- 26:53Speaker 1: to happen. But when it comes to making the most
- 26:56Speaker 1: of it from a financial perspective, like, have a look
- 26:59Speaker 1: at the res that are in the share market, have
- 27:01Speaker 1: a look at what it's going to mean for your mortgage.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Sixty grand on a mortgage is definitely going to cut
- 27:07Speaker 1: down the amount of time that you're paying off your
- 27:09Speaker 1: mortgage for. But then also remember if you're putting it
- 27:12Speaker 1: into your offset account, you still have access to that,
- 27:16Speaker 1: so it cuts down how much interest you're paying today.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But then maybe when you have a baby in the
- 27:20Speaker 1: future you could use some of that as your nest egg.
- 27:23Speaker 1: So even if it's going to become a nest egg,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I want it to be a productive nestig, right, Like,
- 27:27Speaker 1: don't put it in a savings account where you're not
- 27:29Speaker 1: getting any interest. But also this is a probably spicy topic.
- 27:34Speaker 1: If you have a mortgage and a savings account, please
- 27:38Speaker 1: don't forget that inside your savings account, if you're earning
- 27:42Speaker 1: any interest, any interest, you're going to have to pay
- 27:45Speaker 1: tax on. That is money that you have earned, and
- 27:48Speaker 1: so when you earn money here in Australia, you have
- 27:50Speaker 1: to pay tax on it. However, if you then had
- 27:53Speaker 1: it in an offset account and instead of earning you
- 27:57Speaker 1: interest is cutting down how much interest you're paying that
- 28:01Speaker 1: could be financially better for you than a savings account
- 28:05Speaker 1: where you're like, but I'm earning money, be yes, but
- 28:07Speaker 1: you're not paying money, and arguably because you don't have
- 28:10Speaker 1: to pay any tax on it, you're saving more. So
- 28:14Speaker 1: do the mass between the two. But always remember that
- 28:17Speaker 1: you will be paying your marginal tax rate on any
- 28:20Speaker 1: money that you earn inside that savings accounts. So even
- 28:23Speaker 1: though it's really sexy and it might be like seven
- 28:25Speaker 1: percent or something and your mortgage is lower, maybe it's
- 28:30Speaker 1: more cost effective or financially beneficial to be against your
- 28:33Speaker 1: lower mortgage because there's no tax element.
- 28:36Speaker 5: I also just out of curiosity to get an insurance payout.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Normally the money is needed for something like it or
- 28:45Speaker 5: I got in an accident or I had a loss
- 28:48Speaker 5: of income. So if sixty grand is your total payout,
- 28:52Speaker 5: does it need to cover something because I would focus
- 28:54Speaker 5: on covering that. Yeah, and one percent. And I mean,
- 28:57Speaker 5: sometimes you're lucky and your insurance is a set up
- 28:59Speaker 5: really well and you get more more than you need,
- 29:00Speaker 5: and that's love that for you. But like I would,
- 29:02Speaker 5: assumably some part of that money has to go towards
- 29:05Speaker 5: whatever the payout was meant to be for.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and also remembering yet that often within insurance, if
- 29:12Speaker 1: you get a payout, it might stop you from getting
- 29:15Speaker 1: a future payout. So I know that some insurances might go, Okay, Beck,
- 29:19Speaker 1: we're going to pay you out for this, but in
- 29:21Speaker 1: the future, like your policy now, has an exclusion for
- 29:24Speaker 1: that particular cause. And this is why it's so important
- 29:27Speaker 1: to get good insurance advice, to know what it covers
- 29:29Speaker 1: what it doesn't cover. Because I know that if I
- 29:33Speaker 1: get an insurance payout from my personal insurances, I won't
- 29:37Speaker 1: have exclusions because I have set it up and if
- 29:40Speaker 1: you want to go check out sky Wealth will put
- 29:42Speaker 1: their link in these show notes. But like if I
- 29:45Speaker 1: suffer a personal traumatic event, I know I'll get paid
- 29:49Speaker 1: out for it, but depending on what it is, I
- 29:51Speaker 1: might get an exclusion for it or I might not.
- 29:53Speaker 1: So like a heart attack for example, in my personal situation,
- 29:58Speaker 1: if I have that event happened to me and I recover, fine,
- 30:01Speaker 1: I'll get a payout, but I can get a future
- 30:04Speaker 1: one right as well. You're maybe suggesting that they sit
- 30:08Speaker 1: on this, they maybe save it in case something else happens.
- 30:11Speaker 1: To Jess's point, the insurance payout is usually for something
- 30:14Speaker 1: unless it was like compensation above and beyond covering the cost,
- 30:19Speaker 1: Like did you crash your car and it's worth sixty
- 30:22Speaker 1: grand and you actually need a family car?
- 30:23Speaker 5: Like, what does that look like?
- 30:25Speaker 6: Gotch?
- 30:26Speaker 1: Is it an insurance payout? Because you know, God forbid
- 30:29Speaker 1: something happened yesterday and you had a personal injury and
- 30:31Speaker 1: now you need to modify your bathrooms. Renovations are expensive,
- 30:36Speaker 1: so it just depends.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yes, should get into the juice.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you ready?
- 30:41Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 30:41Speaker 1: All right, So here's a DM that we got this week. Hey,
- 30:46Speaker 1: she's on the money. I need some advice on an
- 30:48Speaker 1: awkward money situation. A friend offered to drive us both
- 30:52Speaker 1: to the airport for an upcoming trip, and I was
- 30:54Speaker 1: super thankful since it saved me the hussle of finding
- 30:57Speaker 1: some transport. But after the trip, they asked me to
- 31:00Speaker 1: pay them some petrol money. The thing is, I know
- 31:03Speaker 1: that they get their petrol for free through work. It's
- 31:06Speaker 1: a perk that they've mentioned time and time again, so
- 31:09Speaker 1: I was surprised when they asked me to pay. It's
- 31:12Speaker 1: not like I'm not grateful.
- 31:13Speaker 3: I am.
- 31:14Speaker 1: It just feels really weird to be paying for something
- 31:16Speaker 1: that didn't cost them anything. I don't want to seem stingy,
- 31:19Speaker 1: but I feel like I should bring this up or
- 31:21Speaker 1: am I seeing this in the wrong way?
- 31:24Speaker 5: I mean there are many layers to this, Yes, so
- 31:27Speaker 5: many layers. I feel so this is a weird rule
- 31:30Speaker 5: that I have in my head. But so VEDI. If
- 31:33Speaker 5: I said to you, can you please take me to
- 31:35Speaker 5: the airport? Ye, I would offer to pay you. But
- 31:38Speaker 5: if you said to me, I'm going to the airport,
- 31:40Speaker 5: do you want to come? Like? I would be like, yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 5: do you know what I mean? Like I don't feel
- 31:46Speaker 5: like you. I would be like, oh, I'll grab us
- 31:47Speaker 5: coffees in the morning or something like.
- 31:49Speaker 6: Did the person was the person already going to the airport?
- 31:51Speaker 6: They were like it said they drove both of us.
- 31:56Speaker 5: I have asked someone to put themselves out. In my mind,
- 31:59Speaker 5: immediately go. I should sweeten the deal and be like,
- 32:02Speaker 5: can you drive me to the airport. I'll pay you
- 32:04Speaker 5: a petrol or like I'll buy breakfast or whatever. But
- 32:07Speaker 5: if we're both already going and you just go, do
- 32:09Speaker 5: you want to jump in the car? I don't know why.
- 32:12Speaker 5: In my mind that's different. I still would be like, oh, like,
- 32:15Speaker 5: I'll grab the coffee at the airport, or I'll pick
- 32:17Speaker 5: up breakfast at Macas on the way through or whatever.
- 32:19Speaker 5: But in my you're already going.
- 32:21Speaker 4: I get you, I get you.
- 32:23Speaker 5: Is that make me a bad person?
- 32:24Speaker 8: No?
- 32:24Speaker 1: No, no, not one thing i'd make you.
- 32:31Speaker 6: I guess I'm wondering, Like, firstly, if I'm offering, I'm
- 32:35Speaker 6: kind of on the same page as you, but like
- 32:38Speaker 6: a little slightly different. If I'm offering to take them
- 32:40Speaker 6: to the airport or they want me to take them
- 32:41Speaker 6: to the airport, I assume that it's all free, because
- 32:44Speaker 6: otherwise they would just take a skybus or anything transport anything. Otherwise,
- 32:49Speaker 6: why would you bother asking for a lift anywhere?
- 32:51Speaker 5: Like if you offer your being a nice friend, like
- 32:53Speaker 5: I'm not offering to get something out of it, Like
- 32:56Speaker 5: I'm just saying you need to lift to the airport,
- 32:58Speaker 5: Like I wouldn't expect you to pay.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Yes, I guess it's also like also weird that you're
- 33:03Speaker 1: asking to be paid after after it's weird, ketch you
- 33:08Speaker 1: weird pyjs. I can take you to the airport and
- 33:11Speaker 1: then what you get there, And I'm like cough up,
- 33:13Speaker 1: like how.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it's giving a foreign country where they're like, can
- 33:17Speaker 5: I take your suitcases? And you're like, oh, sure, and
- 33:19Speaker 5: then they're like, that'll be twenty.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Euro yeah, traveling, and they're like, oh, I can take
- 33:26Speaker 1: your suitcase up to the room. I look like a
- 33:28Speaker 1: crazy person. I'm like, don't touch them. I don't know,
- 33:31Speaker 1: don't touch my bags.
- 33:32Speaker 4: It's fine, We've got them.
- 33:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess like I'm also wondering, I'm sorry, I
- 33:40Speaker 6: just realized that the side of my sentence is always
- 33:42Speaker 6: the same. But anyway, we could maybe assume that they
- 33:45Speaker 6: had to park there, and maybe that's what they want
- 33:48Speaker 6: the money for the in which case they shouldn't say that,
- 33:51Speaker 6: but yeah, do you want to split parking with me
- 33:52Speaker 6: or something?
- 33:53Speaker 4: Split parking?
- 33:54Speaker 6: Sure? But I also am thinking, like, do they sorry?
- 33:58Speaker 4: I didn't mention if they're going in the same.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yes, so the message said a friend offered to drive
- 34:03Speaker 1: us both to the airport for an upcoming trip. Us
- 34:07Speaker 1: both like, as my friend I offered to drive Jess
- 34:10Speaker 1: and I to the airport for an upcoming trip, I
- 34:13Speaker 1: would assume they're both on the same tree.
- 34:14Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 34:15Speaker 4: It's so hard for me to absorb that that.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Makes it I think that they're both going together. Both
- 34:18Speaker 1: going to and then I was like, you have to
- 34:21Speaker 1: pay for the petrol. I'm not paying for the petrol.
- 34:23Speaker 5: That's line.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I have to pay for the petrol.
- 34:27Speaker 9: I haven't even so we haven't even discussed friend for trash,
- 34:31Speaker 9: which I totally think is fine, but like, do that
- 34:34Speaker 9: up front, Like if I go, yes, oh hey, Beck,
- 34:36Speaker 9: I can drive us to the airport, would you mind
- 34:38Speaker 9: chipping in ten barks or whatever it is?
- 34:41Speaker 1: And like, let's be honest, that's a bit of a joke.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Petrol is not ten bucks anymore. Like I sneeze and
- 34:46Speaker 1: it's fifty dollars day. But that's when you have to
- 34:51Speaker 1: communicate that, because that's giving Beck the option to go no,
- 34:55Speaker 1: actually I already have a skybus ticket booked. I pre
- 34:58Speaker 1: booked it. There was like a sale or something, and
- 35:01Speaker 1: you've got the option of saying no to incurring another expense,
- 35:05Speaker 1: like or you might be like, oh no, thanks, my
- 35:07Speaker 1: mum can drop me there, like you might actually have
- 35:10Speaker 1: someone who can transport you for free, but you I
- 35:14Speaker 1: could go on and on. I think we're all on
- 35:16Speaker 1: the same page though.
- 35:17Speaker 5: But then the yeah, the element of paying when they're
- 35:19Speaker 5: not paying is very strange to me. Like if anything,
- 35:22Speaker 5: I'd be go, oh my god, VD, do you want
- 35:24Speaker 5: to drive as the airport. I don't have to pay petrol,
- 35:26Speaker 5: it's on work. Yeah, Like yet money with strange to
- 35:29Speaker 5: me unless maybe they like it would make sense to
- 35:32Speaker 5: me that petrol's covered within work hours or there's a
- 35:35Speaker 5: log book method and maybe our list and I doesn't
- 35:37Speaker 5: realize that, you know, I mean maybe the petals.
- 35:40Speaker 1: It's actually weird even if that exists, to go back
- 35:43Speaker 1: and ask your mate for money after incurring something that
- 35:46Speaker 1: they probably thought was free.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Yeah, the whole thing is uncomfort.
- 35:50Speaker 6: You need a sad things your expectation us. I would
- 35:54Speaker 6: maybe ask my friend in this situation. It is awkward,
- 35:57Speaker 6: but I'd be like, oh did work did work want
- 36:00Speaker 6: you to cover or did you get like be a
- 36:01Speaker 6: bit cheeky like or did you get in trouble from
- 36:03Speaker 6: work or something like that, like petrol.
- 36:05Speaker 1: You're like, I'm going to dig your grave for you,
- 36:07Speaker 1: like a shovel.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Yeah, Like and then they'd be like, oh, that's right.
- 36:11Speaker 6: I did tell them that work pays for my petrol.
- 36:13Speaker 6: But like, maybe just make a little cheeky joke and
- 36:15Speaker 6: be like yeah, just say something like that, like oh,
- 36:17Speaker 6: did work, get angry that you whatever, and then kind
- 36:20Speaker 6: of say, you know, I guess it depends on how
- 36:23Speaker 6: much it is, too, because if it's like ten bucks,
- 36:25Speaker 6: it's not enough to make a bit of a If it's.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Super significant, ah, it frustrates me because obviously I think
- 36:32Speaker 1: that if you're ever gonna ask someone for money, we
- 36:34Speaker 1: need to be setting clear expectations and not surprising them
- 36:37Speaker 1: with it. I mean, hopefully because you're going on a holiday,
- 36:41Speaker 1: you've got some extra budget for transport, because obviously you
- 36:45Speaker 1: can never predict what's going on on a holiday, and
- 36:47Speaker 1: maybe that can be part of that budget. Because it's
- 36:50Speaker 1: going to depend on who your friend is as well,
- 36:52Speaker 1: because like I know, I've got friends that if I
- 36:54Speaker 1: pushed back on them if they asked for cash, I'd
- 36:56Speaker 1: be like, oh weird, like I didn't think it was there,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and then they'd be like, oh, sorry, I really should
- 37:00Speaker 1: have chatted you about it. If I had someone else, though,
- 37:03Speaker 1: like a different friend, it would be really awkward, like
- 37:07Speaker 1: and it would make the friendship awkward, and I wouldn't
- 37:09Speaker 1: bring it up. So I feel like read the room
- 37:11Speaker 1: on it as well, like from a personal perspective, yeah.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Oh, thing's weird, weird. I like it not one bit.
- 37:20Speaker 1: We asked the community, and no one's going to be surprised,
- 37:24Speaker 1: they're exactly like us. We said, should friends expect money
- 37:28Speaker 1: for favors like giving them a lift? Eighty seven percent
- 37:30Speaker 1: of you said no, favors.
- 37:32Speaker 5: Should be free, agree completely.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Thirteen percent of you said, yep, everyone should be paying
- 37:37Speaker 1: their own way. Well, that's cool, that's cool. Could you
- 37:40Speaker 1: just let your mates know that you'll be charging them
- 37:43Speaker 1: before you charge? That's all we are, that's all we ask, like.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I don't mind if that's your point of view. Each
- 37:49Speaker 1: to their own, but you've got to be super transparent
- 37:52Speaker 1: about that. Yes, you're going to offer a favor and
- 37:54Speaker 1: then say, but the favor is going to cost you.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Maybe that's actually not a favor, that's a business.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Six.
- 38:02Speaker 1: We then asked the community, how would you deal with
- 38:04Speaker 1: a friend who is asking for money and you don't
- 38:07Speaker 1: feel like it's justified. Fifty nine percent of you your
- 38:11Speaker 1: she's on the money, girls, We're gonna have an open conversation.
- 38:14Speaker 4: Good, fair, good, Yes.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Forty one percent of you said, I'm just going to
- 38:17Speaker 1: pay to avoid the drama.
- 38:19Speaker 5: Understand it's the money girl.
- 38:23Speaker 1: We then said, all right, give us you two cents.
- 38:25Speaker 1: What do you think about this situation? And as always,
- 38:27Speaker 1: you had some colorful opinions. First person said, petrol can
- 38:31Speaker 1: be like an umbrella term for everything related to a
- 38:34Speaker 1: car's wear and tear in insurance and redro and stuff.
- 38:37Speaker 5: You've drive me to the airport once. I don't know
- 38:39Speaker 5: that I need to be chipped in for Redro just yet.
- 38:42Speaker 1: You're going to be like, oh, but yes, it's we're
- 38:44Speaker 1: in tearror on my car, babe, you were driving it
- 38:48Speaker 1: to the air You're already going Are we talking about
- 38:51Speaker 1: wear and tear on the passenger seat?
- 38:53Speaker 4: Maybe they were just like kind of gross, oh.
- 38:58Speaker 5: Drunk and they in the car.
- 39:01Speaker 4: Really sweaty. Maybe they farted one too many times.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Someone else said, does her work cover all her fuel
- 39:08Speaker 1: costs or just work related travel? And I like, so
- 39:11Speaker 1: I get that. But if you're going to do your
- 39:12Speaker 1: friend a favor and offer them something, I think that
- 39:16Speaker 1: that should be with nothing expected in return. And you
- 39:18Speaker 1: know I did. Jess is laughing, Beck is laughing.
- 39:24Speaker 5: I really try to pull it together.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Pull it together back, because I looked up favor in
- 39:29Speaker 1: the dictionary and it says that it is an act
- 39:33Speaker 1: of kindness beyond what is due or usual, with no
- 39:37Speaker 1: expectation for service in return.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Oh that's quite literally the definition.
- 39:42Speaker 1: So I mean, we're meant to do a favor for free.
- 39:46Speaker 1: But I'm thinking.
- 39:48Speaker 6: Maybe they like got their toll bill and their parking
- 39:53Speaker 6: bill and they're like, it's weirly. Didn't communicate any of this.
- 39:55Speaker 6: They're saying it like it's a normal request. Like doesn't
- 39:58Speaker 6: seem like they explain anything. But it could be that
- 40:01Speaker 6: they're you know, they realize the tolls like so expensive.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Well, see, it's an act of kindness that has no
- 40:06Speaker 1: expectation for a remuneration. According to Google, that's true.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very weird.
- 40:12Speaker 1: You a favor, I'm not paying you. That becomes a service.
- 40:18Speaker 1: You became my uber jover, you were actually my personal assistant.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Yeah weird, But okay, if I didn't realize this was
- 40:26Speaker 1: the dynamic. So I get that you're trying to justified that.
- 40:28Speaker 1: It could be a lot of things. But I just
- 40:31Speaker 1: I think as somebody who would be mortified to ask
- 40:34Speaker 1: their friend to pay me for a favor. Yeah, I
- 40:37Speaker 1: just couldn't do it. It's a lot. Someone else said,
- 40:39Speaker 1: approach this with compassion. Maybe the friend is now having
- 40:42Speaker 1: money trouble but doesn't want to say anything. Totally agree.
- 40:45Speaker 6: I was thinking that too, but I'm like say that.
- 40:48Speaker 5: You know, yeah, I think it's in the communication to say, hey,
- 40:50Speaker 5: oh my god, I didn't realize how many tolls we'd
- 40:52Speaker 5: hit on the way through. It's cost me sixty bucks.
- 40:55Speaker 5: Would you mind splitting it is a much better way
- 40:58Speaker 5: to approach it.
- 40:59Speaker 6: You must give context. I can't just be like, just
- 41:01Speaker 6: give me ten bucks. Yeah, right now, you would. You've
- 41:07Speaker 6: got to give would Yeah, I completely agree. It's only
- 41:11Speaker 6: to how it's communicated. It sounds like maybe, yeah, like
- 41:13Speaker 6: totally valid. If you're like, oh god, it's so expensive,
- 41:16Speaker 6: but like, don't be addicapated.
- 41:17Speaker 1: The next one it's going to make you laugh, she says,
- 41:21Speaker 1: play dumb go. I'm sorry I didn't actually offer you
- 41:24Speaker 1: petrol money. I thought your work was paying for it.
- 41:26Speaker 1: How much do I owe you?
- 41:28Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, though that's good.
- 41:30Speaker 1: I would die. I would simply pass away.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Oh that's good.
- 41:33Speaker 6: Oh sorry, I would have offered. But I thought, yeah,
- 41:35Speaker 6: that's a great idea.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Someone else said, if you give someone a favor, it
- 41:40Speaker 1: doesn't equal money. It actually equals a favor of a
- 41:43Speaker 1: similar amount.
- 41:44Speaker 5: Oh yeah, like in the future, like if they need
- 41:46Speaker 5: to lift the airport, yeah, you drive them. Yeah.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Isn't that just friendship?
- 41:51Speaker 4: Yes, and that's all.
- 41:53Speaker 6: But then we're going into like expecting something in return.
- 41:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true.
- 41:57Speaker 1: If someone else said, and I like this girl, she said,
- 42:00Speaker 1: I always offered a drive if a group is going
- 42:03Speaker 1: somewhere because I don't pay for my petrol thanks to
- 42:06Speaker 1: my job. This is wild to me that she's asking
- 42:08Speaker 1: for cash. I agree her friends, she's a good friend friend.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Someone else said, offer to shout her brunch as a
- 42:14Speaker 1: thank you instead. Someone else said, to be honest, if
- 42:18Speaker 1: I thought i'd be paying fuel money, I'm just going
- 42:19Speaker 1: to get into damn cab totally. I laughed so hard, because,
- 42:24Speaker 1: like sometimes if it's asked in the wrong way, petty
- 42:29Speaker 1: me would have gone the damn cab. I would have
- 42:32Speaker 1: been like, that's why I'll meet you there. Yeah, that's
- 42:34Speaker 1: absolutely fine. Someone else said, I'd be curious to know
- 42:37Speaker 1: if the friend had to then pay for parking at
- 42:40Speaker 1: the airport, because that could be expensive and perhaps she
- 42:43Speaker 1: should have asked to split that. And then someone else
- 42:46Speaker 1: another one of our petty queens said, I'd be sarcastic
- 42:49Speaker 1: and then asked, did you want that money transferred directly
- 42:52Speaker 1: to you or your boss's account? Before real before imagine
- 42:58Speaker 1: me being like, did you want that in your account?
- 43:00Speaker 1: I call your boss's account, so Gi.
- 43:02Speaker 5: Gosh, please reprop back. I'm curious to know what happens there.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Can we please have an update anyway? I feel like
- 43:08Speaker 1: that is all we've got time for today. A little
- 43:11Speaker 1: bit spicy, a little bit petty, but that's okay because,
- 43:15Speaker 1: like money, conversations should be fun as well as sometimes confrontational.
- 43:21Speaker 1: So have the best weekend. I have a fun episode
- 43:24Speaker 1: another solo coming for you tomorrow, and then we're going
- 43:26Speaker 1: to see you bright early for a money diary on Monday.
- 43:29Speaker 1: So have the best weekend, Guys.
- 43:30Speaker 5: By Guys by.
