- 1:12Speaker 4: favorite money wins. We're going to be helping to answer
- 1:14Speaker 4: a very juicy money dilemma, which this week is all
- 1:17Speaker 4: about emergency funds for travel, and we're going to be
- 1:20Speaker 4: unpacking something you slid into our DMS about And this
- 1:23Speaker 4: week we're going to be chatting about should you pay
- 1:25Speaker 4: when someone else is driving you and you get a fine,
- 1:29Speaker 4: which I think is going to get a little bit spicy.
- 1:31Speaker 4: But my friends, Beck, you're here, Miss jessic Ricci, you're
- 1:35Speaker 4: here as always.
- 1:37Speaker 2: How have your weeks been?
- 1:39Speaker 5: Mine has been so relaxing. It's relaxing work. Yeah, and
- 1:44Speaker 5: I'm just on cloud night, like you know how.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Much you love your job before.
- 1:48Speaker 6: We will always be the best, so true.
- 1:52Speaker 5: So it's been yeah, super chill too chill.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Oh good.
- 1:55Speaker 5: I'm still leating East eggs, are you? Guys?
- 1:57Speaker 4: We literally have Easter eggs on the desk right now,
- 1:59Speaker 4: and Ess is brought in those American marshmallow rabbit things.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Sorry the peeps they're not their chickens.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I don't know what they are, little bodies, but Jess,
- 2:10Speaker 4: you always embrace effective season.
- 2:12Speaker 2: How was your Easter?
- 2:13Speaker 5: So good?
- 2:15Speaker 6: My little fresh baby nephew got dressed up in a
- 2:17Speaker 6: little rabbit costume.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Eat him. I would have eaten it.
- 2:22Speaker 6: It was delicious and ever so edible, but it was
- 2:25Speaker 6: really fun. It was so good, family time, lots of chocolate.
- 2:28Speaker 6: I don't know what else you could possibly ask for.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Really, how good?
- 2:31Speaker 4: Mine was very very similar lots of babies, yes, lots
- 2:35Speaker 4: of kids around, lots of making sure that there was
- 2:37Speaker 4: some dinner on the table by five point thirty pm,
- 2:39Speaker 4: which I am not used to. There was way more
- 2:42Speaker 4: screaming in our household over the weekend than has ever
- 2:46Speaker 4: been before. But it was really, really good. And I
- 2:50Speaker 4: have decided to plan my Barbie birthday party. Oh yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 4: We've planned our Barbie birthday party. And Jessica Ici has
- 2:57Speaker 4: said that she will also sell a kidney for a
- 2:58Speaker 4: Taylor Swift ticket. They come out, it's all happening. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 4: we're very excited.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Taylor Swift is listening to the podcasts, which I am
- 3:06Speaker 5: not myself. I don't know, Guys, I think she might.
- 3:13Speaker 4: She's like, hey, I'm literally worth hundreds of millions, then
- 3:16Speaker 4: some budget to.
- 3:17Speaker 5: She kind of wants to know how to budget.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 3:19Speaker 6: She's a girl's girl, Like, if anyone's going to support
- 3:22Speaker 6: the girlies, I'm convinced. Yeah, Swift, So you know, you know.
- 3:25Speaker 4: We will basically say that we're endorsed by Taylor Swift
- 3:28Speaker 4: if that's the case basically. But before we get into
- 3:31Speaker 4: some pr issues, Jessica, you have some community money wins
- 3:36Speaker 4: for us.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Can you do a little quick whipp around of your
- 3:38Speaker 2: faves from this week?
- 3:39Speaker 6: Sure? Can? A bit of a self care theme this
- 3:41Speaker 6: week's My first money win comes from Brianna, who said
- 3:44Speaker 6: money win. One of my girlfriends who used to study
- 3:46Speaker 6: skincare offered to give me an at home facial and
- 3:49Speaker 6: teach me how to look after my specific skin type
- 3:52Speaker 6: on a budget. I've been finding it so hard to
- 3:54Speaker 6: justify my expensive cosmeceutical skincare with the rising cost of living,
- 3:58Speaker 6: so this came at the perfect time.
- 3:59Speaker 2: How good can we have that list?
- 4:01Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 4:03Speaker 4: Taking applications for new friends who have cosmetics licenses. If
- 4:07Speaker 4: you would like to give me facials at home, Yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 4: I'm willing willing to take that sacrifice.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Love that. My next money win came from Jess, who
- 4:14Speaker 6: said I booked all of my europ accommodation using a
- 4:17Speaker 6: shot back. Total game changer. Anyone who's lucky enough to
- 4:20Speaker 6: be booking a holiday, I would be making sure you
- 4:22Speaker 6: get your cash back because you will save yourself a
- 4:24Speaker 6: pretty penny. My next money win came from Rebecca, who said,
- 4:28Speaker 6: I randomly thought I would check Deepop for the dress
- 4:30Speaker 6: I've been eyeing off for an upcoming wedding and I
- 4:32Speaker 6: found the exact dress in my size for a third
- 4:35Speaker 6: of the price and it had only been listed twelve
- 4:38Speaker 6: hours earlier. Oh my god, wow, perfect, immaculate. My next
- 4:43Speaker 6: money win is from Alana, who said I desperately needed
- 4:46Speaker 6: a massage and went to the massage clinic at a
- 4:49Speaker 6: tape where students practice a one hour of remedial massage
- 4:52Speaker 6: on you for only fifteen dollars.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Sorry, what that is a great idea.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 4:56Speaker 6: All it was required at the end is filling out
- 4:58Speaker 6: a feedback form on how this it was an amazing
- 5:01Speaker 6: experience and not to mention a relaxic one.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, that's actually the biggest money win of
- 5:06Speaker 4: the year. You can't even buy anything for fifteen dollars
- 5:08Speaker 4: a year this day.
- 5:09Speaker 6: If you're in Melbourne, there is a tafe I.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Think it's a beauty clinic on in the city. It's
- 5:15Speaker 4: in the city about finds Elie Lucas.
- 5:18Speaker 6: I think so.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I used to go there and get like my
- 5:21Speaker 4: eyelashes tinted, or like facials and stuff.
- 5:24Speaker 7: You can get massages, yeah, I'm sure you can. Okay,
- 5:28Speaker 7: Oh my god, I'm slow key.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Look up your local tape, it's a lot cheaper, and honestly,
- 5:31Speaker 6: if anything, I feel like they're going to be better
- 5:33Speaker 6: because they're trying, like they're practicing, they're at school, they're
- 5:36Speaker 6: trying really hard to.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Be good and do their best possible job one hundred percent.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Also on that, I think it's important. So my hairdresser Boder,
- 5:44Speaker 4: I'm obsessed with them. They've obviously got sounds everywhere, but
- 5:46Speaker 4: I go to the one in Richmond. If you follow
- 5:49Speaker 4: hairdressers on Instagram, often they'll post things like, oh, we
- 5:53Speaker 4: need a hair model for this, or we need like
- 5:55Speaker 4: a hair model for a blowwave. And the other day
- 5:58Speaker 4: I saw the Boda had done a like oh we
- 6:00Speaker 4: need like three blowwave models, and I was like, if
- 6:02Speaker 4: I was free, I would take the reblowave.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Like can you imagine.
- 6:06Speaker 6: They do highlights and stuff too. I'm pretty su When
- 6:07Speaker 6: I was younger, I got my highlights done once for
- 6:09Speaker 6: free because I needed someone to practice that.
- 6:11Speaker 4: So it's a good idea to follow your favorite hairdresser
- 6:13Speaker 4: and like keep an eye on their stories and see
- 6:15Speaker 4: if they are ever wanting a hair model or anything,
- 6:17Speaker 4: because you might end up with a free haircut, free
- 6:19Speaker 4: hair color, or even like a severely discounted one at best,
- 6:23Speaker 4: so huge. Anyway, that's my hot tip.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I really like that. It's actually very very smart.
- 6:27Speaker 6: That's a good one.
- 6:28Speaker 4: I don't know if everyone does it, but I do
- 6:29Speaker 4: know bod does, so get in on it.
- 6:32Speaker 6: Next money Win comes from Zoe, who said money win
- 6:35Speaker 6: where when I got East Chocolate, the half price lind
- 6:37Speaker 6: Bunnies were four dollars and my favorite Ferrero Royshare mini
- 6:40Speaker 6: eggs were three dollars twenty five for packet genius.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Did you play that?
- 6:44Speaker 6: I did not. That's from Zoe from Zoe Joey Scout.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Are you sure hold on? Because it's a little bit convenient?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Is it just?
- 6:53Speaker 4: How many packets of Kinder hazelnut mini eggs did you purchase.
- 6:57Speaker 2: This this Easter?
- 6:58Speaker 6: I would not like to disclose it. Information at this
- 7:00Speaker 6: time may or may not be a double digit We.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Know it is.
- 7:05Speaker 4: She she disclosed to us before, and I was like,
- 7:07Speaker 4: I don't even know when you're going to use all these.
- 7:09Speaker 6: But respect you can only get them at Easter exact
- 7:12Speaker 6: once a year opportunity and they were half priced.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Okay, you know what money they're good year round, Yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 4: they're good year round.
- 7:17Speaker 2: If they've got that little bit of white on them,
- 7:19Speaker 2: still good.
- 7:19Speaker 5: It's still good.
- 7:20Speaker 6: It's extra prote and what is it antibotics? Last money
- 7:24Speaker 6: when it comes from and she said everyone's money winds
- 7:26Speaker 6: are so epic. I was so stoked this week because
- 7:29Speaker 6: Muffin Break gave me and my kids six free scones
- 7:32Speaker 6: under muffin Ye. They when we were walking past. We
- 7:35Speaker 6: had a fancy scone with jam and cream breakfast this morning.
- 7:37Speaker 6: Gone or Scott, same sentenced Scot. It's gone scone. If
- 7:43Speaker 6: you're really rich and from Europe.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Yes, if you're posh, if you're push yeah, I gave
- 7:47Speaker 4: you from Britain.
- 7:48Speaker 6: I did one of each Popote to see that guarantee pockets.
- 7:53Speaker 5: That's it.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he's actually my favorite.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He just like goes through. Oh he's great.
- 7:58Speaker 6: I'll send him to you. Yes, effectively de influences so
- 8:01Speaker 6: someone will be showing like things that they brought on
- 8:03Speaker 6: Amazon to make their life more organized, and he just
- 8:06Speaker 6: comments on it in such a satirical way. He's like, Pillo,
- 8:08Speaker 6: you take things out of boxes to put them in
- 8:10Speaker 6: other little boxes. No, you don't, because you're Popo is
- 8:16Speaker 6: taking good. He's taking the Mickey out of over consumption,
- 8:19Speaker 6: not because it could be a bit.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Anybody like people's videos, so like you're watching theirs at
- 8:26Speaker 4: the same time as him narrating.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It is absolutely delete content.
- 8:31Speaker 6: So it sounds great.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Like yeah, that's me, but like I'm the opposite.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I put the little clear containers in my fridge and
- 8:39Speaker 4: now I feel attacked by this guy because he's not wrong.
- 8:42Speaker 2: He's not wrong wrong my eggs he a clear carton.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Hope they didn't. But you like it, and that's okay.
- 8:47Speaker 6: He's coming for me on that note. That's the end
- 8:49Speaker 6: of my money wins.
- 8:50Speaker 4: All right, Well, let's go to a really quick break
- 8:52Speaker 4: because after the break, I want to talk about emergency
- 8:55Speaker 4: funds for travel. I also want to talk about Taylor
- 8:57Speaker 4: Swift Barbie parties. And we're also going to talk about
- 9:00Speaker 4: what happens if you get a parking fine while driving
- 9:04Speaker 4: for other people?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Should they be paying or should you be paying?
- 9:07Speaker 3: Should you just.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Cough it up because it's your car? I don't know.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Don't go anywhere, guys, because it is going to get hot.
- 9:13Speaker 4: On the other side, Welcome back, everybody. I feel like
- 9:20Speaker 4: it's getting into winter here in Australia and we're all
- 9:23Speaker 4: dreaming of travel, right, We're all dreaming of going somewhere else. Which,
- 9:26Speaker 4: if you're Jess and you're embracing the warm winter coats
- 9:28Speaker 4: and the fact that you can stay home and eat
- 9:30Speaker 4: your ten packets of Easter eggs.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Living the dream, why would I ever want to leave?
- 9:34Speaker 6: But this week's question is all about emergency funds for
- 9:36Speaker 6: travel I believe.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Let's take a listen.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Got a money dilemma you just can't solve? The Sheese

- 9:56Speaker 4: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 9:58Speaker 4: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 10:01Speaker 4: this week's money dilemma.
- 10:05Speaker 8: Hi, guys, EGO, question about emergency funds for traveling. I'll
- 10:09Speaker 8: be going overseas for about a month, mostly staying with family.
- 10:13Speaker 8: I want to make sure that I have a emergency
- 10:15Speaker 8: fund available, which is planned. But do you guys have
- 10:19Speaker 8: any advice on making sure that that emergency fund is
- 10:22Speaker 8: definitely sufficient? And I won't be caught out. I do
- 10:25Speaker 8: have travel insurance organized, but obviously having the emergency fund
- 10:28Speaker 8: is kind of important to me. Any advice on how
- 10:31Speaker 8: to figure out how much should be in there to
- 10:34Speaker 8: make sure that I don't become brick thanks.
- 10:37Speaker 6: First, like kudos to her for thinking an emergency fund,
- 10:39Speaker 6: because I literally would go overseas and come back with
- 10:42Speaker 6: not eve yeah, not even.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Yes, go to get McDonald's at the airport because you're
- 10:48Speaker 4: like exhausted, and you're like, I deserve.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Hash brown in your bank accounts, Like no, you don't.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Be No, you don't. You cannot afford a.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Single Okay, humbled, But I'll just wait for the dodgy
- 10:59Speaker 4: plane food and hope that there's a wetash brown in that.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, plain food. Have you ever had anything crispy?
- 11:08Speaker 5: That's true? No, that's true.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Everything just comes out half steamed.
- 11:14Speaker 5: The steamers from up there, everything's steamed.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know, I don't e's efficient.
- 11:19Speaker 6: They're best back, they're in the sky. What do you expecting?
- 11:23Speaker 5: Their beggas can't be choosers.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Actually they can. Because Jess refuses to eat plain.
- 11:30Speaker 6: Food, Victoria gives me her role and I eat two rolls.
- 11:34Speaker 4: That's really he is very good. I also, I'm really nice.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I even donate the butter to her. I'm like, you
- 11:41Speaker 4: can have the butter as well because you can't have
- 11:42Speaker 4: a plane roll. And then if there's something she will eat,
- 11:45Speaker 4: I just will be like, I know you'll eat this.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Takeen because I scared she's going to starve because she
- 11:50Speaker 4: literally gets in the plane she's like, I'm not going
- 11:52Speaker 4: to eat that.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Oh, great friend.
- 11:54Speaker 4: I don't know if I am a great friend. Because
- 11:57Speaker 4: the flip side is I'm like, what's in yours around yours?
- 12:01Speaker 4: There's a trade happening.
- 12:02Speaker 5: That's a good trade off.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I feel like this.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Question is really important because it's something that none of
- 12:06Speaker 4: us do when traveling, but it's actually really essential. So
- 12:10Speaker 4: the first thing I was going to say before listening
- 12:11Speaker 4: to the whole question, because I'm really good at jumping
- 12:14Speaker 4: into conclusions before the actual question has been asked, is
- 12:16Speaker 4: I was going to say travel insurance is your number
- 12:19Speaker 4: one best friend. I've said it before on the podcast,
- 12:22Speaker 4: and is it privileged to say?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Absolutely? It is?
- 12:26Speaker 4: But I think it's really important. I do not believe
- 12:29Speaker 4: that you can afford to travel if you have not
- 12:32Speaker 4: purchased travel insurance, Like, I don't care if you're saying, oh,
- 12:36Speaker 4: but it makes the travel so much more expensive, cool,
- 12:38Speaker 4: you can't afford to travel, Like, I don't care how
- 12:41Speaker 4: aggressive I am with that, because I have seen the
- 12:44Speaker 4: flip side of how expensive it can be, how dangerous
- 12:47Speaker 4: it can be to travel without it. I have said
- 12:50Speaker 4: it before as well, I want insurance to be the
- 12:52Speaker 4: biggest waste of money in the entire world. I want
- 12:54Speaker 4: you to be like, well, I didn't use that travel insurance.
- 12:57Speaker 2: And I'll go good.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Yeah, because my good friend who ended up a paraplegic
- 13:02Speaker 4: by jumping into a pool completely stone cold, sober in Bali,
- 13:06Speaker 4: and had she not had travel insurance, she would have
- 13:09Speaker 4: ended up in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of
- 13:13Speaker 4: debt just to get herself from Bali.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Back to Australia.
- 13:17Speaker 4: So it's one of those things where there's obviously always
- 13:20Speaker 4: a worst case scenario and we should be planning for it.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So that's why emergency funds are really important as well.
- 13:25Speaker 4: So once you've got your insurance, the other thing to
- 13:27Speaker 4: make sure is that everything you want to be included
- 13:30Speaker 4: is included. So something that I don't think a lot
- 13:33Speaker 4: of us realize because we just go, oh yeah, I'll
- 13:35Speaker 4: just pay for travel insurance. Often when you're going through
- 13:37Speaker 4: like booking flights, at the end, it'll say do you
- 13:39Speaker 4: want to add travel insurance and you go tickbox. Great,
- 13:42Speaker 4: that seems like a good price, but it might not
- 13:45Speaker 4: include the activities you're doing. So you need to be
- 13:47Speaker 4: careful go through all of the activities included and the
- 13:51Speaker 4: ones that I excluded. Because I remember when I was
- 13:54Speaker 4: headed and this is again really privileged.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Don't mind. I'll share.
- 13:57Speaker 4: I was going to New Zealand and I was like, okay, cool,
- 14:00Speaker 4: obviously going to get travel insurance, but I had to
- 14:03Speaker 4: pay more for snow cover because I was going overseas
- 14:06Speaker 4: to ski, which was really really fun. But then also
- 14:09Speaker 4: in the ski package there are exclusions like you can't
- 14:12Speaker 4: go off pissed, you can't do all of this other
- 14:15Speaker 4: stuff like helly skiing?
- 14:16Speaker 2: What off pissed?
- 14:21Speaker 4: Sorrys No, it means that like you're skiing on the
- 14:26Speaker 4: non groomed runs. So like if you go skiing and
- 14:29Speaker 4: there's like groomed runs, that's skiing on groomed field. If
- 14:32Speaker 4: you go up the top and you kind of go
- 14:34Speaker 4: a bit rogue god bit cross country that's called off
- 14:36Speaker 4: Pieced skiing, and yeah, it's not included. Sorry, I feel
- 14:41Speaker 4: like it makes me sound makes me sound real rish,
- 14:44Speaker 4: like when I talk off Pierce skiing, like I don't
- 14:46Speaker 4: do it because I'm very much of a chicken. If
- 14:48Speaker 4: you think I'm leaving this blue Run, you are wrong.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I'm not leaving the Blue Run. I will stay there.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I am there for the app ray ski. I want
- 14:55Speaker 4: the appar role in the snow. That's why I go ski.
- 14:58Speaker 4: My husband, on the other case, I think he goes
- 15:00Speaker 4: there to try and kill himself. Yeah, I think he
- 15:02Speaker 4: just goes, you know what, straight down the double black Diamond.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Can I skate? He's like, well, we'll find out.
- 15:08Speaker 6: Chin Box is not going to cover.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Stiff No, no, no no.
- 15:10Speaker 4: So you've just got to be really careful about what
- 15:12Speaker 4: is in isn't included, because things like whitewater rafting might
- 15:15Speaker 4: not be included. If you're going to Bali and I
- 15:17Speaker 4: think that, you know, you might think that's a really
- 15:19Speaker 4: good thing to do. Cars might not be included. So
- 15:23Speaker 4: it's important to make sure these things are included before
- 15:25Speaker 4: you go into it. And it can be a bit
- 15:27Speaker 4: of a boring exercise. Important though. On top of that,
- 15:31Speaker 4: an emergency fund. I don't know where you're going. You
- 15:35Speaker 4: said a month, a month in the south of Italy,
- 15:38Speaker 4: different story to a month in Bali. Obviously those things
- 15:42Speaker 4: cost different amounts of money. On average, I'd probably be
- 15:45Speaker 4: looking at having maybe about twenty percent of your travel
- 15:47Speaker 4: costs in an emergency fund should something happen. This is
- 15:51Speaker 4: above and beyond you're like spending money and what you're
- 15:54Speaker 4: actually planning. This is in case something happens and you
- 15:57Speaker 4: need to get emergency accommodation or an emergency flight. It's
- 16:00Speaker 4: going to depend on your circumstances as to what is
- 16:04Speaker 4: applicable because I don't know. Maybe you booked non refundable flights.
- 16:08Speaker 4: What if you booked flights that are flexible and you
- 16:11Speaker 4: can just change the date on them, that might change
- 16:13Speaker 4: how much emergency money you actually need. Because Jesse, if
- 16:16Speaker 4: you needed to get home early, we could just change
- 16:18Speaker 4: the travel booking for forty dollars. Whereas maybe you booked
- 16:21Speaker 4: with a cheaper airline where you don't have refundable or
- 16:24Speaker 4: changeable flights. Well, to get home early, you're going to
- 16:27Speaker 4: have to book an entirely new flight, and that may be,
- 16:29Speaker 4: you know.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Six hundred dollars, it might be two thousand dollars.
- 16:32Speaker 4: You don't know, So it's really important to kind of
- 16:34Speaker 4: look at what that looks like. In a perfect world,
- 16:37Speaker 4: you don't use your emergency money, and I know that
- 16:39Speaker 4: you go, oh, what's the point in having an emergency
- 16:41Speaker 4: fund for travel? I think it's really important to put
- 16:44Speaker 4: it to the side. But hopefully you get home and
- 16:47Speaker 4: that money can either go into your pre existing emergency
- 16:50Speaker 4: fund to top that up, or it can go into
- 16:53Speaker 4: your next trip. So it's not going to be money
- 16:55Speaker 4: that's wasted. It's money that's going towards something really practical,
- 16:59Speaker 4: and some I think that's actually going to, you know,
- 17:01Speaker 4: put you in the best position. And what's better than
- 17:04Speaker 4: having a stress free holiday, Like you're not going overseas
- 17:07Speaker 4: to stress. You're going overseas hopefully to have a bit
- 17:09Speaker 4: of a break, and I promise you're going to be
- 17:11Speaker 4: far less stressed if you feel like everything financially is sorted.
- 17:16Speaker 6: Question does your holiday emergency fund need to be a
- 17:20Speaker 6: separate emergency fund from your regular one?
- 17:22Speaker 2: No, it doesn't.
- 17:23Speaker 5: Good question.
- 17:24Speaker 2: It is a good question, Thank you. No, it doesn't.
- 17:27Speaker 4: But I think a lot of people are in circumstances
- 17:30Speaker 4: where they might not have an emergency fund yet, and
- 17:33Speaker 4: they ask this question. If I personally was going overseas,
- 17:37Speaker 4: I wouldn't be allocating money to a specific emergency fund
- 17:40Speaker 4: because I have access to my normal emergency fund. But
- 17:43Speaker 4: I think a lot of people are in circumstances where
- 17:46Speaker 4: they might still live at home, and they're like, oh,
- 17:48Speaker 4: I don't really need an emergency fund or their emergency
- 17:51Speaker 4: funds just like three or four hundred dollars because the
- 17:54Speaker 4: bank of Mum and Dad comes into it.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 17:56Speaker 4: It's a very privileged position to be in, but that's
- 17:59Speaker 4: the real of a lot of our community. So I
- 18:02Speaker 4: think it's important to go, have I got an emergency
- 18:04Speaker 4: fund that I could use for travel. If the answer
- 18:07Speaker 4: is no, we need to create it before we go.
- 18:09Speaker 4: And if the answer is yes, then we can just
- 18:10Speaker 4: rely on the pre existing one. But at the end
- 18:12Speaker 4: of the day, it is important to have access to
- 18:15Speaker 4: money if you are not at home. It's important to
- 18:17Speaker 4: have access to money at all times. But I think
- 18:20Speaker 4: baby steps are really important. And if it's like your
- 18:22Speaker 4: first time traveling overseas, and you're eighteen and you're not
- 18:24Speaker 4: really sure. The answer is yes, Yeah.
- 18:27Speaker 6: I wish eighteen year old Jess had thought about that
- 18:29Speaker 6: before she got her iPhone stolen in a foreign country.
- 18:31Speaker 2: She was fine, wasn't she? She was fine?
- 18:34Speaker 6: But came home no money and no iPhone. Oh sucks
- 18:37Speaker 6: to me.
- 18:38Speaker 2: What did you do?
- 18:39Speaker 4: Just go into debt to get in your iPhone? Because
- 18:40Speaker 4: that's probably what eighteen year old Victoria would have done. Yeah, samely,
- 18:44Speaker 4: liaber All on the same page.
- 18:45Speaker 7: Did you feel a bit wholesome having screen off time?
- 18:49Speaker 7: It's not phone addicted then, so it wasn't you know?
- 18:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 18:53Speaker 2: If you took my phone off me, i'd legitimately feel naked.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I feel like that.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Yeah, like she actually would. Yeah, let's be honest.
- 19:01Speaker 4: All right, let's move on because this week, Jess, we
- 19:04Speaker 4: have a community concern that I think it's going to
- 19:06Speaker 4: get a little bit heated. And I don't mean heated
- 19:09Speaker 4: from this table. I feel like I feel like I've
- 19:12Speaker 4: learned bex ways of the world thus far.
- 19:14Speaker 5: I feel like on the fence.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Yees sit on the fence, don't have no I feel
- 19:19Speaker 4: like we're going to be on the same page about this.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Okay, I have a very clear like as soon as
- 19:22Speaker 6: I read this question, I was like, there is one
- 19:25Speaker 6: answer in my mind and one answer.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Agreed, agreed, and I feel like we're all going to
- 19:30Speaker 4: be on the same page. But I want to see
- 19:31Speaker 4: what our DM's say. Okay, So our community dilemma was this,
- 19:34Speaker 4: It's aid, hello, ladies, A bit of a weird one
- 19:37Speaker 4: for you. I drove my girlfriends into the train station
- 19:40Speaker 4: on a night out because everyone was a little bit
- 19:42Speaker 4: too poor to a for manouver, so I volunteered to
- 19:44Speaker 4: drives all in the place I parked ended up getting
- 19:47Speaker 4: me a parking fine in Bracketts. She said it was
- 19:49Speaker 4: dark and I didn't check the parking signs. I'm feeling
- 19:52Speaker 4: a little bit salty now, and I know it's my fault,
- 19:54Speaker 4: but I feel like we should be splitting this between
- 19:56Speaker 4: all of us. I took one for the team, and
- 19:58Speaker 4: I also used my fuel and none of us noticed
- 20:01Speaker 4: the signs. So I don't really want to be coughing
- 20:03Speaker 4: up one hundred and twenty three dollars for a parking
- 20:05Speaker 4: fine at the moment.
- 20:06Speaker 6: So much money for a parking fine.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Yeah, that's very like there used.
- 20:10Speaker 2: To be like eighty dollars.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Yeah, Max, even seventy. I'm pretty sure I've paid one
- 20:14Speaker 6: before that was like seventy dollars.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's insane, La, it's insane. Do you know what?
- 20:18Speaker 4: Like side note, parking in the city is going to
- 20:21Speaker 4: cost you the same, so maybe just risk it for
- 20:23Speaker 4: the biscuit.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I do that. I do that.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I do that.
- 20:26Speaker 5: I mean I feel like we're all going to agree
- 20:28Speaker 5: on this.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I would not.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Jess would never risk it for the biscuit. She'd pay
- 20:33Speaker 4: for the parking. I know it.
- 20:34Speaker 5: Yeah, oh you paid the parking.
- 20:35Speaker 7: But if you did get a fine, yeah, and you
- 20:38Speaker 7: were driving your mates around and you got a fine,
- 20:40Speaker 7: I personally would one hundred percent pay the fine. But
- 20:44Speaker 7: this is all by yourself or by myself. This is
- 20:47Speaker 7: my little hack though.
- 20:49Speaker 4: And are you about to say are you about to say,
- 20:54Speaker 4: just never volunteer to drive your friends around?
- 20:57Speaker 7: No, much worse, much more. I just don't pay it.
- 21:00Speaker 7: And then but wait, but then it goes to it.
- 21:03Speaker 5: No, it goes it goes to VIC fines.
- 21:06Speaker 7: And then I jump online and do pay in installments
- 21:09Speaker 7: and I do like ten bucks a month and then
- 21:11Speaker 7: I can pay it off. It doesn't feel like anything
- 21:13Speaker 7: that's gen I.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Just gotta wait, what are you two doing? That is debt?
- 21:16Speaker 5: No? No, I mean yes, yes, yes you can existed.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Yes it is debt, but I believe like it's a
- 21:23Speaker 6: payment plan. It's not as if you're taking out a loan,
- 21:26Speaker 6: and I believe that. I feel like that's actually a
- 21:29Speaker 6: really stort to pay then have to pay differently for a.
- 21:33Speaker 7: Different because I feel like if you just cannot satom
- 21:36Speaker 7: paying one hundred and twenty three dollars in the parking fine.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Then honestly wait until it goes to VIC fines and
- 21:42Speaker 5: then paid off as as fast or as slow as
- 21:44Speaker 5: you need to.
- 21:45Speaker 6: Yeah, where do you sit on this? Because now I
- 21:47Speaker 6: feel like maybe we don't have the same.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm kind of confused.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I thought we were all going to have the same opinion.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Do you think they should split it?
- 21:53Speaker 4: I'm assuming given the context of the message, so saying,
- 21:58Speaker 4: you know, we all couldn't afford that, uber like, it's
- 22:01Speaker 4: not I am in a full time working environment where
- 22:05Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty three dollars, you know, could be
- 22:07Speaker 4: split over a few months and become palatable. I'm getting
- 22:11Speaker 4: the vibe. I'm picking up that they're unique students. I
- 22:15Speaker 4: think that there should be some hey, we got a fine,
- 22:17Speaker 4: what should we do and have a chat? Like I
- 22:19Speaker 4: would be mortified to find out that Beck got a
- 22:21Speaker 4: parking fine for driving me to the train station and
- 22:24Speaker 4: then she didn't say anything to me, Like I would
- 22:27Speaker 4: not want her to be financially impacted by helping me
- 22:31Speaker 4: or doing something for me, especially if the driving was
- 22:35Speaker 4: a joint decision of Beck and I. I didn't see
- 22:38Speaker 4: it either, Like I didn't see the signs either. Why
- 22:41Speaker 4: would Beck see the signs? I think that it's some
- 22:45Speaker 4: of my responsibility.
- 22:46Speaker 6: I fully see where you're coming from, Like, I completely
- 22:48Speaker 6: understand that logic, and I think, like, are you.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Saying that if I get a fine, I've got to
- 22:52Speaker 2: pay for the whole thing.
- 22:55Speaker 6: I just think I see myself out on this one.
- 22:58Speaker 6: I my stands on this, and like I'm the same
- 23:01Speaker 6: as you. I think if someone drove me somewhere and
- 23:03Speaker 6: they got to find like I would want to contribute.
- 23:05Speaker 6: But I think it's very different to being like I
- 23:07Speaker 6: drove everyone and I want people to put in for
- 23:10Speaker 6: petrol because they knew that I was getting in and
- 23:12Speaker 6: they were going to drive versus ultimately you, as the driver,
- 23:16Speaker 6: made a mistake. That was your responsibility to look in
- 23:20Speaker 6: the same way that if you had gotten a speeding fine, yes,
- 23:23Speaker 6: I would say the same thing, like that's yea as
- 23:25Speaker 6: the driver, particularly of a car of people who did
- 23:28Speaker 6: she say they've been drinking.
- 23:29Speaker 4: No, she didn't say they've been drinking. I think we
- 23:31Speaker 4: just assumed because they were, like you might have.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Had a couple of beverages, perhaps even like regardless of
- 23:38Speaker 6: whether they had to.
- 23:38Speaker 4: I don't want someone to be financially worse off because
- 23:41Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I agree, Like, I agree.
- 23:43Speaker 6: I think the nice thing, yeah, I would be for
- 23:45Speaker 6: maybe be like, oh my god, I got a parking fine.
- 23:47Speaker 6: How annoying.
- 23:48Speaker 8: Guys.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I'd pay your parking fines, but you wouldn't pay mine.
- 23:52Speaker 6: I'm happy with that outcoud No. But I just think
- 23:54Speaker 6: if you're taking on the responsibility of driving in the
- 23:57Speaker 6: same way that you take on the responsibility of not
- 23:59Speaker 6: hitting someone with your car as the driver, you take
- 24:02Speaker 6: on the responsibility of not speeding and getting a speeding fine,
- 24:05Speaker 6: you take on the responsible and it sucks. Melbourne parking
- 24:07Speaker 6: the worst. The signs so confusing, like fully, no judgment
- 24:11Speaker 6: from rebabe. I've been there. But I do think and
- 24:14Speaker 6: I know that she's not gonna like this answer because
- 24:15Speaker 6: it is kind of a sucking answer because she's wanting
- 24:17Speaker 6: us to have her back, but.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I've got your back. Might not, but I do.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Emotionally I do. Yeah, technically technically not, but I emotionally do.
- 24:27Speaker 4: In reality, if I got a parking fine, you've met me,
- 24:31Speaker 4: do you really think I'm just going to be accepted
- 24:32Speaker 4: sitting down, I'm going to be arguing it. I'm gonna
- 24:36Speaker 4: be like, okay, cool, where were the signs? I didn't
- 24:38Speaker 4: see them? Can you please provide the photos of my.
- 24:40Speaker 6: Car coming full circle? Situation sucks? Don't support that either?
- 24:45Speaker 6: Do the payment things? Or did you know that? You
- 24:48Speaker 6: don't just have to copy fine? You can argue it,
- 24:50Speaker 6: and you can say if you've never had an infringement before,
- 24:53Speaker 6: they're very likely to be kind and let you off
- 24:56Speaker 6: with a want if you explain the situation you say
- 24:57Speaker 6: it was time.
- 24:59Speaker 4: I've never had infringement because I've talked my way out
- 25:01Speaker 4: of every single one of them.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Wow, that's really impressive.
- 25:04Speaker 6: No, that's not true.
- 25:05Speaker 4: That's gabby.
- 25:08Speaker 6: I've definitely had one instance where I felt like I
- 25:10Speaker 6: was not at fault and I said that, and I,
- 25:13Speaker 6: you know, the system was really kind to me, and
- 25:15Speaker 6: they system was going, yeah, they the find. So I
- 25:20Speaker 6: feel like, if you're in that situation where it was
- 25:21Speaker 6: really dark and maybe the sign was covered by some
- 25:23Speaker 6: leaves or whatever, the worst thing you can do is
- 25:26Speaker 6: appeal it and see what happens so that nobody is
- 25:29Speaker 6: stressed financially. But I think if I was the driver,
- 25:32Speaker 6: I would just be copying it on the chin personally.
- 25:35Speaker 2: But what are the people.
- 25:38Speaker 6: I did.
- 25:39Speaker 4: I thought that you guys would have my back, and
- 25:41Speaker 4: then you did it.
- 25:43Speaker 5: It's like a conger line of having each other's back.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, the common line circle and it's just you
- 25:49Speaker 4: two holding hands watching me stand by myself in the is.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Yeah, nowadays, I really okay different.
- 25:55Speaker 4: So it turns out I'm actually in the minority here.
- 25:59Speaker 5: That's kindness. I'm fine, I'm not vacation.
- 26:04Speaker 4: I'm not surprised you guys are happy with this. I'm
- 26:06Speaker 4: not paying for lunch today. Just so you know, there
- 26:11Speaker 4: were a fair few comments, all of them really validating
- 26:13Speaker 4: the two of you.
- 26:14Speaker 2: It was their own fault. They're the driver.
- 26:16Speaker 4: I don't want to be splitting the cost for something
- 26:18Speaker 4: that was not my fault because I wasn't the driver.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Someone did say, get it, queen, thank you. I'd offer
- 26:24Speaker 4: to split, as it's not fair on the driver. Someone said,
- 26:27Speaker 4: I'd just be too scared to ask my friends to
- 26:29Speaker 4: split it, so I'd just pay it. Someone said, sadly,
- 26:32Speaker 4: I really think this one's on the driver. If you
- 26:34Speaker 4: got a speeding ticket, would you expect them to split it.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I swear you've got little minions in our community. Jessica
- 26:41Speaker 4: who just comment on things to have your back. It's
- 26:44Speaker 4: just me from ten thousand different accounts, be bothered.
- 26:50Speaker 6: She's got really great opinions.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Someone said, I don't think that they should be paying.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Maybe they should have paid for some fuel or shouting
- 26:58Speaker 4: in a drink or something, but not the fine. Someone
- 27:01Speaker 4: said this happened to me on the Gold Coast. My
- 27:03Speaker 4: friends just sent me their share without me even asking.
- 27:06Speaker 6: Oh that's nice.
- 27:07Speaker 2: See, that's nice. They are the types of friends I
- 27:10Speaker 2: want to have, knows.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Someone said, perhaps not splitting the whole cost, but they
- 27:16Speaker 4: definitely should have contributed towards petrol. I feel like everybody's
- 27:21Speaker 4: just beckon jests team today. Yeah, splitting it. Everyone could
- 27:25Speaker 4: have checked for parking signs and they drove and us petrol.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Someone said, nope, Unfortunately the cost goes straight to the
- 27:32Speaker 4: driver unless a friend pointed out where to park and
- 27:35Speaker 4: they disregarded it.
- 27:37Speaker 6: That's a good point.
- 27:37Speaker 5: That is a good point.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Yeah, if you're the passenger, that is not your responsibility.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Someone else said. Someone said, I think you can always
- 27:44Speaker 4: ask your friends, but be prepared for them to just
- 27:47Speaker 4: say no. So I'm not going to go on and
- 27:50Speaker 4: on because I genuinely think that you guys might be
- 27:54Speaker 4: in the majority here and I'm in the minority, and
- 27:56Speaker 4: going on and on is actually going to put me
- 27:58Speaker 4: in a worse off hole. So you know what, I'm
- 28:01Speaker 4: going to pay for the parking fines. Moving on, I'm
- 28:03Speaker 4: not going to ask you to pay for my parking
- 28:05Speaker 4: fines because you guys, you know you guys.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Will be walking your driving past. So yeah, we'll see
- 28:18Speaker 2: you on the flip side.
- 28:18Speaker 5: See you then, Bye bye everyone.
