Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by being home alone. A lot can go very wrong very quickly.
- 0:07I'm responsible for the bathing here. If anything happened, everyone will point
- 0:11the finger at me. You can't reverse death.
- 0:14The man who runs a lake in Germany and doesn't allow non-German speakers in.
- 0:19Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:24I'm Lindsay Bernick, and today is June 29th, 2026.
- 0:28I hope that you guys had a great weekend and had a great pride if you went,
- 0:34and you are enjoying the start of summer.
- 0:38So in real news, scientists in Japan are testing a drug that could help people
- 0:44grow a third set of teeth. That's right.
- 0:47So our baby teeth and adult teeth would just be like opening acts.
- 0:52The treatment is designed for people who are missing teeth, but if it works,
- 0:56the dentist is about to become a subscription service.
- 1:00We've spent centuries accepting that losing a tooth means getting an implant.
- 1:04Now it's like, have you simply just tried growing another one?
- 1:08Now kids who forget to put their teeth under the pillow are about to become millionaires.
- 1:13Great. As if braces weren't expensive enough, now we might all have to pay for round three.
- 1:20Trump held what was supposed to be a giant patriotic state fair at the White
- 1:23House until heavy rain turned it into what you could only call karma or fate.
- 1:29Thousands of people showed up for military displays, food, and festivities before
- 1:33storms rolled right in and sent people running for cover.
- 1:37The event was supposed to showcase tanks. Instead, the biggest casualties were
- 1:41everyone's white t-shirts.
- 1:43It turns out, even the weather was like, I think we should not have this one.
- 1:48Nearly 30 years after the murder of John Benet Ramsey, the case is back in the news cycle.
- 1:55Her father, John Ramsey, is
- 1:57once again calling for investigators to use newer DNA testing technology,
- 2:02after he found out that one of the forensic people that worked on that case
- 2:09just pled guilty to evidence tampering, but for a different case.
- 2:13Ramsey says that these advances in the technology could finally help identify,
- 2:18left the unknown DNA found on his daughter's clothing.
- 2:22It's wild that our phones can unlock with our face. Cars are literally driving
- 2:27themselves, but one of America's most famous murder cases is still waiting on an updated DNA testing.
- 2:35At this point, the technology has evolved more than the investigation has.
- 2:39And 30 years later the biggest plot twist that we would get is finally getting an answer,
- 2:45and honestly that's what we all want less documentaries more closure in lindsey
- 2:50life this weekend i went with a friend to see rubis de soul at madison square
- 2:55garden i wouldn't necessarily describe the group as a dj.
- 3:01But they're also not a band but they also play music instruments on stage it's
- 3:07kind of confusing I don't know right it's like it's hard to explain them anyway,
- 3:12I was out having a great time and I became friends with the guys next to me
- 3:17because like I I don't know it just this time I swear I didn't talk to them
- 3:21first they talked to me first.
- 3:23And then the guy, like, takes something, he, like, takes some food out of his
- 3:28pocket and he, like, hands them, like, pieces of chocolate out to his friends.
- 3:34So I stuck my hand out because, like, if you're going to eat something in front
- 3:38of me, you better share it with me, especially if we're going to be new friends.
- 3:42So he puts a piece of chocolate in my hand and I pop it in my mouth because
- 3:46yum, but it turns out it's special chocolate.
- 3:50And then everything after that was so funny, my friend and I could actually
- 3:56not stop laughing at every single thing that happened.
- 3:59Thing of the week this week are the heat waves. So can we all agree it's officially
- 4:06too hot when it reaches 100 degrees?
- 4:09It's not, let's get a lemonade hot or go for a hunk or a walk or go to the beach
- 4:15hot. It's like, you need to stay inside hot.
- 4:19Half the country is going to be baking this week and New York has already turned
- 4:24into one giant sauna where everyone smells bad and somehow forgets the whole idea of deodorant.
- 4:30And for Jewish people, it's so bad for us because we have the frizziest hair
- 4:35and humidity just makes our hair only like a gazillion times bigger.
- 4:40I'm also wondering if this is like how rotisserie chickens feel when they're
- 4:45being cooked because it's literally that hot.
- 4:49I have spent more time checking the weather app than my bank account and somehow
- 4:54the weather looks more threatening.
- 4:56So stay cool out there. Make sure you are staying hydrated and wearing your sunscreen.
- 5:03Cooking tip of the day today is brought to you by Jeremy Allen White and this
- 5:08is his tip on how to cut an onion.
- 5:11You cut the onion in half, and then you're going to cut long horizontal lines.
- 5:16And then you're going to cut the other way, not all the way down,
- 5:19so you've got little squares. And then you just slice away, and you've got a little dice going.
- 5:24Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish boy looking fruity,
- 5:27email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com. Thanks so much for listening.
- 5:31Talk to you guys tomorrow.
