- 0:14Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke At that
- 0:19time 2 of the disciples of Jesus went that same day to a town
- 0:25which was 60 furlongs from Jerusalem, named Emmaus.
- 0:30And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
- 0:35And it came to pass that while they talked and reasoned with
- 0:37themselves, Jesus himself also, drawing near, went with them.
- 0:44But their eyes were held that they should not know Him.
- 0:47And he said to them, What are these discourses that you hold
- 0:51one with another as you walk, and are sad?
- 0:55And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas answering, said to
- 0:59him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and has not known the
- 1:05things that have been done there in these days, To whom he said
- 1:10what things? And they said concerning Jesus
- 1:13of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before
- 1:18God and all the people, and how our chief priests and Princess
- 1:22delivered him to be condemned to death and crucified him.
- 1:27But we hope that it was he that should have redeemed Israel.
- 1:32And now, besides all this, today is the third day since these
- 1:38things were done. Yeah, and certain women also of
- 1:43our company have frightened us, who before it was light were at
- 1:48the sepulcher, and not finding his body came saying that they
- 1:54had also seen a vision of angels who say that he was alive.
- 2:00And some of our people went to the sepulchre and found it so,
- 2:05as a woman had said, but him they found not.
- 2:10Then he said to them, Oh foolish and slow of heart, to believe in
- 2:15all things which the prophets have spoken.
- 2:18Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to
- 2:21enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all
- 2:26the prophets, he expounded to them and all the Scriptures the
- 2:30things that were concerning Him. And they drew nigh to the town
- 2:34whither they were going, And he made as though he would go
- 2:39farther. But they constrained him,
- 2:43saying, Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day
- 2:51is now far spent. And he went in with them.
- 2:55And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took
- 3:00bread, and blessed and broke and gave to them, and their eyes
- 3:05were opened, and they knew him. And he vanished out of their
- 3:09sight. And they said one to the other
- 3:13was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in the way,
- 3:18and opened to us the Scriptures. And rising up the same hour they
- 3:23went back to Jerusalem, and they found the 11 gathered together,
- 3:29and those that were with them, saying, The Lord is risen
- 3:34indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
- 3:37And they told what things were done in the way, and how they
- 3:41knew him in the breaking of bread.
