- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Today, I'll talking about that John is terrified of speaking
- 0:08Speaker 2: to youth even though he was a youth pastor, and
- 0:10Speaker 2: congratulates me on my symmetrical face wounds. Meanwhile, I reveal
- 0:13Speaker 2: the surprising star who was rejected for the lead role
- 0:16Speaker 2: in the original Terminator movie, and tell you the tale
- 0:18Speaker 2: of Fred Turner, the man who walked across America. Well
- 0:21Speaker 2: us a conversation about asking, seeking and knocking, and why
- 0:23Speaker 2: our persistence in prayer sometimes matters more.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Than the prayer itself.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Today's episode is not sponsored by a Little Something Sweet.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Hating yourself after a salty, fatty meal, It's time for
- 0:32Speaker 2: a little something Sweet. But first word from our actual sponsor.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Well, buckle up, buttercups. Talk about that John and Johnny
- 0:45Speaker 4: bringing you though Audible Sensations another week of the podcast.
- 0:51Speaker 2: We're not on the Audible network, though, we need to
- 0:53Speaker 2: probably preface it by saying.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That, well, audible, the word existed before the network.
- 0:57Speaker 3: That's true, That's true.
- 0:59Speaker 1: You can't hide yeat that word.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Yeah, just be a food network called edible. Yeah, you
- 1:05Speaker 3: know audible and edible.
- 1:07Speaker 4: I'm sure there is. The probably is Like I was
- 1:10Speaker 4: at the and I was watching on the ceiling screen.
- 1:15Speaker 4: You know that they put those TVs up there. Sure,
- 1:17Speaker 4: And it was the Pluto network.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I was like, there's just so many networks.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I think they show old shows.
- 1:24Speaker 1: They were showing. It was all Bob Barker era prices.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Pluto is like a television network, but it's not really
- 1:32Speaker 2: a network. It's like a it's a subscription kind of
- 1:35Speaker 2: a thing too, I think.
- 1:36Speaker 4: And I think I was watching an early episode and
- 1:38Speaker 4: I was shocked. Number one, how many mistakes were made
- 1:41Speaker 4: that they just left in there were like on old prices, right, Yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 4: Like one, he was really rude, I thought, to everybody,
- 1:50Speaker 4: really smug and rude. But they were obviously the contestants
- 1:53Speaker 4: would come down. Everyone's cheering, and like twice it happened,
- 1:57Speaker 4: and that both two women that he would say, welcome
- 2:01Speaker 4: to the price is right, and she go, I'm sorry
- 2:03Speaker 4: what I can't hear you? She couldn't hear down. Oh,
- 2:06Speaker 4: I'm sorry, what did you say? She was like, I said,
- 2:09Speaker 4: I couldn't hear what you said? What do you have
- 2:11Speaker 4: a hearing problem? It was like he's trying to make
- 2:14Speaker 4: a joke out of.
- 2:15Speaker 3: It, any of it out.
- 2:18Speaker 4: This lady has a hearing problem everybody and they're all laughing.
- 2:21Speaker 4: It was like she's not really laughing and she doesn't
- 2:24Speaker 4: know what you're saying. You know what, Bob definite sys.
- 2:26Speaker 3: It's terrible.
- 2:27Speaker 2: You know, his legacy hasn't aged the best. I mean
- 2:30Speaker 2: there were some scandals backstage with the sage Worse Price
- 2:33Speaker 2: is right girls, the Yeah yeah, there was some harassment.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Yeah yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 4: And then like several times, like the buttons didn't work
- 2:43Speaker 4: and the contestants didn't know what the other bids were. Boy,
- 2:46Speaker 4: so he had to keep naming them. It's like, okay,
- 2:47Speaker 4: she's seven fifty fifty one.
- 2:49Speaker 3: He's annoyed.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He's very like annoyed by it.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Like I'm just gonna say one dollar, Bob, that one
- 2:54Speaker 3: dollar guy.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Oh that guy every time, man every time.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah, but it is going to be back, and I'm
- 3:01Speaker 3: almost healed up.
- 3:02Speaker 2: We're getting close. It's a slow process, you know. It's
- 3:05Speaker 2: it's not even been three weeks shit since my terrible accident.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And I told them last I told you last did
- 3:10Speaker 2: you get the photo?
- 3:11Speaker 3: You got it ready to go?
- 3:12Speaker 4: Oh?
- 3:12Speaker 3: I got it.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I told everybody last week that I was going to
- 3:15Speaker 2: put on the video and then I had people who
- 3:16Speaker 2: literally reach out and they go, hey, you said that
- 3:18Speaker 2: you were going to put your photo of your injuries
- 3:20Speaker 2: in the video.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Well, it probably thought that Adam was going to I
- 3:23Speaker 1: thought he was going to add it.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Adam, what's the deal, man, It's.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Adam's fault anyway. So after much ado, I decided to
- 3:29Speaker 2: show it. It's a little gruesome, but this is my
- 3:32Speaker 2: that's what my face looked like. This is the day
- 3:34Speaker 2: after I think maybe a couple of days when my
- 3:37Speaker 2: eye started the puffiness.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Here.
- 3:40Speaker 3: This this is the terrible road rash here.
- 3:43Speaker 2: So the bridge of my nose was stitched, so that's
- 3:46Speaker 2: got a few stitches in it. And uh yeah it's
- 3:49Speaker 2: and then this this section above my mustache line, it's
- 3:53Speaker 2: a nice chunk of meat that's just missing.
- 3:56Speaker 3: It's uh, I.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Will say this.
- 3:57Speaker 3: You really.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Did a good job of making sure it was in
- 4:03Speaker 4: the dead center of your face. Yeah, well not hit
- 4:06Speaker 4: on the side on either side.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a that's like you know what, I'm going
- 4:13Speaker 1: straight down?
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Uh. I'm sure you were thinking about that. You were
- 4:18Speaker 4: talking about that feeling of knowing what was about to happen.
- 4:21Speaker 4: That's a really bad feeling.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you just go I'm out of control. I'm on
- 4:25Speaker 2: the ground. It was not like enough time to do.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Anything about it, just happening.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I was, Uh, for some reason,
- 4:32Speaker 2: I get because I bought those scooters on Amazon. I
- 4:34Speaker 2: bought four of them, so I have four of them
- 4:36Speaker 2: in my garage. Now, if anybody wants some scooters, because
- 4:38Speaker 2: my wife now is terrified.
- 4:39Speaker 4: If you thought about suing Amazon, you know.
- 4:41Speaker 2: What, that's a great idea. Not a sponsor, yeah, and
- 4:44Speaker 2: never a sponsor now.
- 4:46Speaker 3: But uh, because I bought those scooters, I still get ads.
- 4:49Speaker 3: You can go back to the logo this is a
- 4:50Speaker 3: lot just creeping people out.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Anyway, you have to watch the video on YouTube, yeah
- 4:56Speaker 2: dot com. If you want to talk about that, go
- 4:59Speaker 2: to the talk about that channel. If you want to
- 5:02Speaker 2: see the Yeah, I guess we could drop it in
- 5:03Speaker 2: a clip or something. But anyway, because I bought those
- 5:07Speaker 2: on Amazon, I get all these programs. But you know,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you're in the algorithms, so they still target me with
- 5:11Speaker 2: these scooters. I'm like, hey, buddy, I'm not your customer anymore.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I'm not the guy. First of all, I have four. Yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 2: so I think I'm done. I caught my limit.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yeah, but beyond that, I'm not your guy.
- 5:21Speaker 2: But I got one the other day and it was
- 5:23Speaker 2: an ad for one that says it's the fastest one ever,
- 5:26Speaker 2: and I go, well, because the one I have goes
- 5:28Speaker 2: twenty yeah, which is a lot. Yeah, that's a lot
- 5:31Speaker 2: for something that you're not strapped into. It's just you're
- 5:33Speaker 2: just on a you're on a skateboard that goes twenty
- 5:36Speaker 2: miles an hour basically, And uh, and I've shown that
- 5:40Speaker 2: to being thrown off.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Of one at twenty miles an hour is a serious john.
- 5:43Speaker 3: This one goes fifty.
- 5:45Speaker 4: That cannot be legal.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I go, it is, but he goes, this isn't a toy.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Don't get this for your kids. This is not like
- 5:51Speaker 2: a starter scooter. And he goes, and you're gonna want
- 5:52Speaker 2: to wear a motorcycle helmet.
- 5:53Speaker 3: If you ride this.
- 5:54Speaker 2: And he was in the promo of it, because I
- 5:56Speaker 2: watched the video of him trying it out to see
- 5:59Speaker 2: if it really did go fifty miles a suit of armor,
- 6:01Speaker 2: I mean, like, I mean, he was wearing his leathers
- 6:04Speaker 2: like you would if you were on a motorcycle, and
- 6:06Speaker 2: he had a motorcycle helmet on and I was like,
- 6:08Speaker 2: but then you're just that. I mean, he was gunning
- 6:11Speaker 2: it though, and I was like, this is a lot.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I cannot even imagine being comfortable going fifty miles an
- 6:15Speaker 2: hour on that, dude.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I saw a guy come down my street the other day,
- 6:19Speaker 4: one of those single.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Wheel yeah, the one wheel guys.
- 6:24Speaker 4: And he was doing he had to be doing thirty.
- 6:26Speaker 1: There's no way, dude, he was flying.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Oh, I know, it's a bit. It's a big car tire,
- 6:30Speaker 3: those one wheels.
- 6:31Speaker 4: He's just standing up right, Yeah, flying down the street.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I thought he had a helmet on, Shirley though I
- 6:36Speaker 3: don't remember.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I think it was near your accident though, and I.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Thought, what are you doing?
- 6:42Speaker 3: Blow down?
- 6:43Speaker 4: It was so fast.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't even imagine what like ers and stuff.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'm sure if I talked to like, I'm sure if
- 6:50Speaker 2: we could ask him to send it, send in. If
- 6:51Speaker 2: you're an er person, how many of people are coming in?
- 6:54Speaker 2: I bet you it's a lot. I bet either's tons more.
- 6:57Speaker 2: It's like pickleball, Like when you have the resurgence in
- 6:59Speaker 2: the cult, sure of some of these more risky behaviors
- 7:02Speaker 2: or something's a big fad.
- 7:03Speaker 3: And then you go oh yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 3: It's like the first year of like.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Fake Christmas trees or whatever, there was so many fires
- 7:10Speaker 2: or whatever because they just were making them out of whatever,
- 7:12Speaker 2: and it's like fable materials.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Same thing with this, Like you have scooters. Now you've
- 7:17Speaker 2: got people doing pickleball, and it's like you got fifty
- 7:21Speaker 2: I don't know, you got fifty people. It does other things,
- 7:23Speaker 2: but you got fifty year olds out here doing exercise
- 7:27Speaker 2: for the first time. They're like, I can get that ball.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Well, yeah you can, but your achilles says.
- 7:31Speaker 4: No, you left your knee on the other side of
- 7:33Speaker 4: the court. Yeah yeah, hey you missing something, buddy, Yeah, yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 4: it's your moniscus.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I don't usually stop and taunt people after entrees.
- 7:40Speaker 2: No, but although my buddy Brad's a comedian in Nashville.
- 7:44Speaker 2: He texted me that and he was like, are you okay, man?
- 7:46Speaker 2: And I go yeah, and he goes, he goes, I
- 7:49Speaker 2: hate this happened to you, he goes. Every time I
- 7:51Speaker 2: see somebody on those scooters, I hope that they go
- 7:54Speaker 2: over the handlebars, but not you. It's true, though, when
- 7:59Speaker 2: you see somebody on as you go.
- 8:00Speaker 3: God, look a look at this guy. But I don't know,
- 8:05Speaker 3: but that that happened to me.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Do you watch a lot of YouTube videos of people
- 8:07Speaker 4: getting injured?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Man, it's hard for me because I always want to
- 8:11Speaker 2: know they're okay, and sometimes you don't get that closure.
- 8:13Speaker 3: No, you just go and then he's just off the
- 8:14Speaker 3: cliff and you go, he's.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Okay though, right right, and they're just like it just
- 8:18Speaker 1: has some man get a resolution.
- 8:23Speaker 3: We're so desensitized to violence now.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it's wild.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Like when I was a kid, there were these rumors
- 8:30Speaker 2: of these movies called Faces of Death, and it was
- 8:32Speaker 2: like real death scenes and it was so so crazy
- 8:37Speaker 2: that they would you had to you had like show
- 8:39Speaker 2: ID to rent it. And most of those were fake.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Like that's the other part about Faces of Death is
- 8:44Speaker 2: most of them were not real. They were like fake.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Now Sadie can just go on Twitter and see murders. Yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 2: like it's so weird. Yeah, how was it.
- 8:54Speaker 3: It's got to be doing something to our brains.
- 8:56Speaker 1: No, it does, like and again not to go there.
- 8:58Speaker 3: But she's not even looking for them. He just happens.
- 9:01Speaker 2: She's scrolling like volleyball clips and then somebody gets shot
- 9:04Speaker 2: at a checkout.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I mean I literally accidentally saw the Charlie Kirk assassination, right, yeah. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 4: Like one day I was like, surely this is not
- 9:12Speaker 4: before I could Yeah, I don't.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I don't like having seen that.
- 9:16Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, There's no way it's not
- 9:18Speaker 3: doing something to our brains.
- 9:19Speaker 4: But well we know that it is.
- 9:21Speaker 3: I'm sure will be okay.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But as long as as long as you allow our podcast.
- 9:25Speaker 2: To do get to your brain, John, how can you
- 9:28Speaker 2: find out more about what our podcast is doing to
- 9:31Speaker 2: your brain?
- 9:31Speaker 1: You go to talk about that podcast dot com.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And there you'll find over four hundred archived episodes. Maybe
- 9:38Speaker 2: you're on a road trip saying you got spring break,
- 9:39Speaker 2: not spring break, summer.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Breaks, summer break, you got.
- 9:42Speaker 3: To be going on all these vacations something Florida.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Shut up back there, you say to the kids going
- 9:48Speaker 4: on talking about that again, Dad.
- 9:51Speaker 3: That's what they That's what the kids say. Your kids
- 9:53Speaker 3: sounds weird.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Man, I do wonder how many kids requested.
- 9:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:57Speaker 2: What's funny is I've had a couple of kids come
- 9:59Speaker 2: to my comedy s Goes Lately, and I'm and the
- 10:02Speaker 2: parents come to the tai left and they go, man,
- 10:04Speaker 2: I dragged him here, and I didn't know if he
- 10:05Speaker 2: would like it, but he loved your show, and I don't.
- 10:08Speaker 2: That's like a cool thing. And also like, is my
- 10:11Speaker 2: comedy for eleven year olds? Like, I don't know what
- 10:13Speaker 2: to think about it? Yeah, am I riding on that level.
- 10:15Speaker 4: I haven't been wanting to tell you, but sort of
- 10:19Speaker 4: the baby, the baby with a teenage elephant in the room.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Well, I told you I re upped. You know this
- 10:23Speaker 2: the youth event that I did. It's going to be
- 10:25Speaker 2: the famous last one. And then the guy sent the
- 10:28Speaker 2: offer like this past week. He goes, I want you
- 10:30Speaker 2: to come to Colorado Springs. You're our favorite we've ever had. Man,
- 10:33Speaker 2: I know I'm finding way too close to the sun,
- 10:35Speaker 2: so I'm rea't. I won't get up from the table.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I'm trying to listen. I'm doubling down.
- 10:40Speaker 3: You know, you're up.
- 10:41Speaker 2: You're up, you got pocket aces and you're like, you
- 10:43Speaker 2: know what, I'm feeling good about this. And then one
- 10:45Speaker 2: day I'm gonna remember you.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I don't know if this is an appropriate joke or not.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Obviously it was yours. So but you used to always
- 10:53Speaker 4: say when you're twins, your little kids, you take baths together. Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 4: and you're like, I, I I don't remember it, but
- 11:01Speaker 4: at some point that last bathroom.
- 11:02Speaker 3: The last bath had to be weird. Yeah, there's a reason.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah it stopped, and I think that that's gonna be
- 11:07Speaker 1: your memory.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Here is like the last last youth I could have
- 11:10Speaker 2: went off on like a cool like, hey, this had
- 11:12Speaker 2: every reason to not work, and I killed And now
- 11:15Speaker 2: it's like, no, I'm gonna go back and going to
- 11:17Speaker 2: Colorado Springs.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, you're either gonna be Brett Favre trying to play
- 11:21Speaker 4: for a different team.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Or you're gonna be Tom Brady trying to play for.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be. Yeah. I could go out with
- 11:27Speaker 3: John Elway with my finger. I could have been John Elway.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Hey, Yeah, and now you're gonna be yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Present day John Elway, brittle and angry.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Probably been a while.
- 11:37Speaker 3: That's true.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You're allowed to age. Oh why do we shame people
- 11:40Speaker 1: for that?
- 11:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Man, you're right, Yeah, these kids, they're lucky to have
- 11:43Speaker 2: my experience on that stage telling them.
- 11:45Speaker 3: All about life.
- 11:46Speaker 4: That's right.
- 11:47Speaker 3: The main thing I don't do if i'm your a
- 11:49Speaker 3: youth audience.
- 11:49Speaker 2: By the way, I don't remere if I said this
- 11:50Speaker 2: last time, but you don't because I have jokes where
- 11:52Speaker 2: I go, I'm fifty one or whatever.
- 11:54Speaker 3: You can't say that fifty one to them. I may
- 11:56Speaker 3: as well say eighty one.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Yeah, same thing, or six.
- 12:02Speaker 3: We'll say I'm sixty seven, Jez John, you know what
- 12:06Speaker 3: we need right now? What's a word from a few
- 12:09Speaker 3: of our fine sponsors.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And we're back?
- 12:26Speaker 1: What How do you tailor your set for.
- 12:30Speaker 3: The You really don't.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I mean the only thing I go is like, don't
- 12:33Speaker 2: ask I do two things differently, three things. One still,
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't pull the audience. You dye your hair, I
- 12:40Speaker 2: dye my hair just for men. Comes out, No, I say,
- 12:45Speaker 2: I don't pull the audience. So if you have questions,
- 12:47Speaker 2: if you have question kind of setups where you go
- 12:49Speaker 2: who's married? Or you don't say that obviously, but you
- 12:51Speaker 2: don't even say anything. Don't say like who has dogs? Yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 2: where's fly? In a room of mixed I go, we
- 12:56Speaker 2: have dog people in the crowd. Then I go into
- 12:58Speaker 2: dog material sometimes. Yeah, you never do that with youth
- 13:01Speaker 2: because they love talking about themselves and they'll go on
- 13:04Speaker 2: for three minutes.
- 13:05Speaker 3: I've got a dog. His name is Lucky, blah blah blah.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So you don't do that. I am.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I go a little zanier, I don't do I do
- 13:14Speaker 2: more act outs on a little zanier. I'm a little
- 13:16Speaker 2: more active on stage, and I do more gross like
- 13:19Speaker 2: every every gross joke. There's a couple of jokes I
- 13:23Speaker 2: do in youth that I would not do anywhere else,
- 13:25Speaker 2: just because they're kind.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Of yet everything do they get like sweet and low?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they tend to.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Uh. Everything was landing that I was choosing to do,
- 13:35Speaker 2: but I was making really decisive choices. I was being
- 13:39Speaker 2: surgical with my set list. As I was in my head,
- 13:41Speaker 2: I was like, no, this will be different here. I
- 13:43Speaker 2: won't do that that way.
- 13:44Speaker 3: But one thing I've heard to do with youth that
- 13:47Speaker 3: really works is and this sounds like a knock on generations,
- 13:52Speaker 3: but my buddy says, get somebody on the stage because
- 13:56Speaker 3: they love part of the show. And I was like,
- 13:58Speaker 3: I don't want that. I'm not willing to do that.
- 14:01Speaker 2: So that's the only thing I've not done is like
- 14:03Speaker 2: bring them up and like what's your name, and then
- 14:05Speaker 2: like make some jokes with them involved. And that's true,
- 14:09Speaker 2: Like if you get something and that's their peers down there,
- 14:10Speaker 2: they'll laugh harder because it's like that's Joe and he's
- 14:13Speaker 2: our quarterback or whatever. That's great, But I just don't.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like a it's like a bomb. I don't
- 14:19Speaker 3: know what's going to happen.
- 14:21Speaker 4: You know, it's crazy, this whole thing. I'm having a
- 14:23Speaker 4: little bit of a outside of my body experience also
- 14:27Speaker 4: known as an out of body experience.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Outside my body experience. John's a theoretical physicist.
- 14:37Speaker 1: But like I'm sitting here asking you what it's like
- 14:40Speaker 1: to talk to youth.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and you're.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Right, I would speak to a gym full of kids. Yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 4: like it was nothing. You know what I'm saying.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I think you can do it now. No, yeah you could.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Oh it would come back, babe, that would come right back.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You've got this baby, you swing. Here's what you do.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You just don't show fear. That's the main thing it is.
- 15:00Speaker 2: The main thing is confidence. And that's really what comedy is.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Comedy is Bill Hicks used to say. The late great
- 15:07Speaker 2: Bill Hicks used to say, don't ask them if it's funny.
- 15:09Speaker 2: You tell them it's funny. Yeah, and you don't. That's
- 15:12Speaker 2: your attitude is what you guys. Don't literally do that.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, your attitude. That was funny. Yeah yeah, yeah. I
- 15:18Speaker 3: don't like comedians that do that. They go, you're not
- 15:20Speaker 3: laughing as hard as I'm joking, not shouting loud as
- 15:24Speaker 3: you must not.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't blame the audience, but I'm
- 15:27Speaker 2: saying your confidence level tells them, oh, this guy knows
- 15:31Speaker 2: what he's doing.
- 15:32Speaker 3: We feel safe, he's driving the bus.
- 15:34Speaker 1: That's what you would be the problem with most things
- 15:37Speaker 1: in my life.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:38Speaker 4: So I told you that I got I was.
- 15:40Speaker 3: You spoke on Sunday. You're great, confident, you did great.
- 15:43Speaker 4: So I was talking to a pH d tutor. Yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 4: in in Europe. Yeah, and he was like, hey, he
- 15:50Speaker 4: was like, I really like you as a person, and
- 15:52Speaker 4: I like it. He goes, but some of your humble
- 15:54Speaker 4: stuff you're gonna have to down. You're going to dial
- 15:56Speaker 4: that back in these applications if you want to.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Get because you're getting qualifying statement.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Like, you know, I may not be an ex. He's like, no,
- 16:02Speaker 1: you tell them you are an ex.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, you tell them that you are going well.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You are an expert in some things, and that's true.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You have a lot of experience in certain things and
- 16:09Speaker 2: it's okay to say I'm an expert.
- 16:10Speaker 4: I don't like doing that because then I'll be held
- 16:13Speaker 4: Oh okay, that's the fear, like what if I right? Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 4: but I mean I'm an expert at this next segment.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's my segment.
- 16:21Speaker 3: And it's never gone wrong.
- 16:23Speaker 1: It's what we call They talked about that.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Great segue.
- 16:36Speaker 4: How do we both went base?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah, base.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Ezekiel Hopkins sixteen thirty three.
- 16:45Speaker 3: With a name like Ezekiel, I'm going to get sixteen hundreds.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a little So this is one of those
- 16:52Speaker 4: if you guys become quote people and everyone acts like
- 16:55Speaker 4: it's easy, right, but the.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Deal is to really you think these people know and
- 17:00Speaker 2: they're saying something like this is going to be quoted,
- 17:02Speaker 2: Like that's what I've always wondered, Like its At some
- 17:04Speaker 2: point Mark Twain knew the people are writing this down.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yes, it's a good one.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Well, if you're writing it, yeah, right, if it's going
- 17:10Speaker 4: into a published work, then you hope right and be quoted.
- 17:13Speaker 4: But but yeah, Twain for sure he lived for that stuff.
- 17:18Speaker 4: But yeah, Zeko Hopkins. Though it's again it's clunky because
- 17:21Speaker 4: when you look for quotes, you find these perfect quotes,
- 17:24Speaker 4: and then when you really start to search them, they go,
- 17:27Speaker 4: that's been rewritten for modern ears, but that's not the original.
- 17:32Speaker 4: So I can't do that.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I want to.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I don't want to be that Johnny, So I want
- 17:35Speaker 4: I want to, And we'll put it into our own
- 17:38Speaker 4: will help then explain it if need be. But oh boy,
- 17:41Speaker 4: for we must know God hath commanded us to pray,
- 17:45Speaker 4: not that he might be excited and moved by hearing
- 17:48Speaker 4: the voice of our cries and prayer to give unto
- 17:51Speaker 4: us those mercies and blessings which he himself was not
- 17:54Speaker 4: resolved beforehand to bestow upon us, but that we ourselves
- 17:58Speaker 4: might be fitted and prepared to receive from him what
- 18:02Speaker 4: he is always ready and willing to confer upon us.
- 18:05Speaker 4: So like the original quote, as they kind of put
- 18:07Speaker 4: into modern words, is more like we don't pray as
- 18:11Speaker 4: if God wasn't going to do this already. Like that
- 18:14Speaker 4: he's withholding, he's thinking, you know what, I didn't really right,
- 18:19Speaker 4: I hadn't really thought about doing that good thing for you,
- 18:21Speaker 4: you know. But more that prayer is a preparation of
- 18:25Speaker 4: what He's going to do. And I think it was
- 18:27Speaker 4: such a fascinating sort of concept. And I met with
- 18:31Speaker 4: a guy this morning. We were talking about this, like
- 18:33Speaker 4: he had he had a kind of year that I
- 18:36Speaker 4: had in like twenty seventeen and eighteen when my dad died,
- 18:41Speaker 4: When then I went through a lawsuit, I went through
- 18:44Speaker 4: just all these different things, And just when you think
- 18:47Speaker 4: you can't get humbled more, you get humbled more, and
- 18:50Speaker 4: you find yourself depending upon God in a way you
- 18:55Speaker 4: never have before. But it doesn't feel good, Like everyone
- 18:58Speaker 4: would say, it's not like this. Ah, you know, and
- 19:00Speaker 4: maybe someone else walks in better peace than I do.
- 19:03Speaker 4: I would dare say almost everybody else probably works walks
- 19:05Speaker 4: in a better peace than I do.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Not true, John, you're very peaceful.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Oh yeah, everyone knows. But this idea though, that what
- 19:13Speaker 4: I'm going to God for is the process of it
- 19:17Speaker 4: is actually changing and preparing and forming me. So while
- 19:22Speaker 4: I'm asking for outcomes, what he's doing is in the asking,
- 19:27Speaker 4: he's giving me the outcome he desires for my own transformation,
- 19:32Speaker 4: as opposed to just the thing I need in this moment.
- 19:35Speaker 4: So the thing may be the answer may be yes,
- 19:38Speaker 4: but the act of prayer wasn't because he didn't get
- 19:41Speaker 4: that already the act of prayer was my dependency right,
- 19:45Speaker 4: or my humility or my willingness to keep coming back
- 19:48Speaker 4: though he's not answered in the way I wanted. And
- 19:51Speaker 4: I think a lot about Jesus talking about asking and
- 19:54Speaker 4: seeking and knocking, and that whole persistent widow parable is
- 19:59Speaker 4: a really like it. It gets caught in my crawl
- 20:04Speaker 4: a little bit, as we'd say in the South.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Like like this this why like why why would Jesus
- 20:12Speaker 1: say that prayer?
- 20:14Speaker 4: He's using this example of prayer as this, this widow
- 20:18Speaker 4: who's being mistreated just continually knocks on the door of
- 20:21Speaker 4: the judge's house. And he's a wicked king or judge
- 20:25Speaker 4: I can't remember, for it's a judge a king. But
- 20:27Speaker 4: and he's like, I don't fear God or people, but
- 20:29Speaker 4: this persistent person is really annoying me, so therefore I'm
- 20:32Speaker 4: going to give. And then Jesus juxtaposes that and says, well,
- 20:35Speaker 4: imagine if that's what the wicked will do, what how
- 20:38Speaker 4: good your father is? But still the point of it
- 20:43Speaker 4: is persistence and patience and having it because it takes faith.
- 20:48Speaker 4: It's like an active faith to continue to knock and
- 20:50Speaker 4: seek and ask and when you're not getting what you're knocking,
- 20:53Speaker 4: you know, and seeking and asking for. Then you begin
- 20:56Speaker 4: to wonder, I think, and I think that's probably Jesus's
- 20:59Speaker 4: point to falcking myself into it, that you begin to
- 21:03Speaker 4: question the character of the person behind the door. Yeah right,
- 21:06Speaker 4: What could possibly be your point for this good thing
- 21:10Speaker 4: that I'm obviously desperately in need of for my family
- 21:14Speaker 4: or for myself or for someone else. What is the
- 21:17Speaker 4: reason that you're withholding? And we don't get that answer.
- 21:20Speaker 4: We don't get the answer of God saying the reason
- 21:23Speaker 4: I withheld was And I think we love the idea
- 21:25Speaker 4: that well, someday you look back and then you can
- 21:27Speaker 4: see why, And guys, sometimes you can and then sometimes
- 21:29Speaker 4: you just can't. But that the act is faith and action,
- 21:37Speaker 4: like it's actually to come back again and to feel
- 21:41Speaker 4: foolish and to feel frustrated, but to say, yet again,
- 21:45Speaker 4: I'm going to knock and ask and seek you have.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Maybe it could be years you've not answered this in
- 21:51Speaker 4: the way I've done it, But I'm going to keep going.
- 21:54Speaker 4: I think that Jesus even and say to you, by
- 21:57Speaker 4: the way is reading. He's very creative in artsy and
- 22:01Speaker 4: so like she gets these journaling Bibles. She's got a
- 22:04Speaker 4: ton of them, and the kid just flies through. I
- 22:07Speaker 4: mean she'll write and an entire everything in the margin
- 22:11Speaker 4: is written, and everything is highlighted, and she color codes.
- 22:14Speaker 4: She's gone through Mark, Matthew, and John in the last
- 22:17Speaker 4: like three or four weeks, like the whole books she's journaling.
- 22:21Speaker 4: And she asked me that the day she goes, you know, Dad,
- 22:26Speaker 4: what is this whole thing about the Jesus saying it's
- 22:32Speaker 4: not good to give the children's food to the dogs
- 22:37Speaker 4: when the Samaritan woman comes and asks you for help?
- 22:40Speaker 4: And I talked about like, well, I mean, you know,
- 22:42Speaker 4: the Jewish people considered the Samaritans even worse than Gentiles.
- 22:45Speaker 4: And so he's, I believe, acknowledging this tension between them,
- 22:52Speaker 4: the cultural tension, and he's using the language that she
- 22:55Speaker 4: would expect the Jewish people to use. But I personally
- 22:59Speaker 4: don't think that's what he was saying. I think he
- 23:01Speaker 4: was allowing her to be more persistent. He was not
- 23:05Speaker 4: testing her faith, but inviting it, because she could have
- 23:08Speaker 4: just been offended. Well you're like all the rest, but
- 23:10Speaker 4: she chose to believe his character. She was like, yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 4: but even the little dogs get the crumbs from the
- 23:16Speaker 4: master's table, meaning like I believe you're different than the rest,
- 23:21Speaker 4: and that he says, I've not seen faith like this
- 23:23Speaker 4: in all of Israel. He ends up rewarding her not
- 23:25Speaker 4: only with a yes, but also with praise about her
- 23:29Speaker 4: willingness to be persistent. And so, I don't know. I
- 23:32Speaker 4: just I encourage myself, hopefully and everybody else to day
- 23:35Speaker 4: like man, I mean, it's really easy to see prayer
- 23:39Speaker 4: in outcome terms only as opposed to you don't know
- 23:46Speaker 4: what the act of doing that.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Right, you're being formed?
- 23:50Speaker 4: Yep.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah. I think about Mother Teresa.
- 23:51Speaker 2: She had this quote one time that I read, and
- 23:53Speaker 2: it was about her late late in life. She did
- 23:57Speaker 2: an interview and they said she said her prayer life.
- 24:01Speaker 2: She said, I mostly just listen to God. And she said, well,
- 24:09Speaker 2: what do you think he does? And she goes, he listens.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I thought that was such a fascinating.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Interesting, I mean, I don't think I think there's sometimes
- 24:16Speaker 2: to ask, but I think it's interesting that contemplation has
- 24:20Speaker 2: really gone from modern society, right, be it social media, whatever,
- 24:26Speaker 2: we just need it's like this, we have to report,
- 24:28Speaker 2: we have to have an opinion. We have to have
- 24:30Speaker 2: a take, we have to have a thing, and so
- 24:32Speaker 2: this idea of contemplation is missing. And spirituality gives you
- 24:37Speaker 2: that time to just sit in silence and be and
- 24:42Speaker 2: I think that that's something that's holy and good and worthwhile. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 2: it is old Ezekiel, old Ezekiel Hopkins. He was a oldie,
- 24:54Speaker 2: but a goodie. You're either from the sixteen hundreds or
- 24:57Speaker 2: you're the original Ezekiel. Basically, that's what I would say.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Are people naming kids, is Echiel anymore? We gotta bring
- 25:02Speaker 2: that thing back.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Zeke Well there's yeah, there's Zeke's out there.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Who is the running back for the.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott. There you go, Yeah, he's the Yeah.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So there's probably a lot of people the name in
- 25:13Speaker 2: their kid after him too. It's like a Peyton yeah
- 25:15Speaker 2: type situation.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of Peytons.
- 25:19Speaker 3: There are a lot of Peytons and NaN's.
- 25:20Speaker 4: And yeah, what the it was the other u t
- 25:24Speaker 4: Peyton Kneeling And.
- 25:26Speaker 3: There's Barns Fulmer.
- 25:30Speaker 4: I don't see there was another name that I've heard
- 25:34Speaker 4: that's the first name that Yeah, but Peyton and'nelon and yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 4: Heath and Heath Shuler.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He was, Yeah, he got drafted number one man.
- 25:42Speaker 4: No, I love Heath. He's a Tennessee legend, but not
- 25:44Speaker 4: an NFL.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's true. He didn't do as well with the Redskins.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Yeah, poor guy John.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Lets do my single was let's start with old jokes.
- 25:51Speaker 3: We call it joke about that John. A baby is born,
- 25:59Speaker 3: but he doesn't have a body. It's a true story.
- 26:02Speaker 4: No.
- 26:03Speaker 2: They called him Steve, and Stephen was a happy child,
- 26:06Speaker 2: and he lived a normal life as you as he
- 26:07Speaker 2: could under these circumstances. Finally, when he reached twenty one,
- 26:10Speaker 2: his dad said, come on, son, we're gonna have a
- 26:12Speaker 2: drink and celebrate your birthday. He put the head on
- 26:15Speaker 2: the counter, and you ordered two pints again as he said, cheers,
- 26:19Speaker 2: and he poured a sip into his son's mouth. To
- 26:20Speaker 2: everyone's surprise, a neck and shoulders pop out like balloons.
- 26:23Speaker 2: With tears of joy that the da had give him
- 26:24Speaker 2: another sip and pop, two arms came out of the shoulders.
- 26:27Speaker 2: The dad gave him a third sip.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Pop.
- 26:28Speaker 2: He grew a torso and on and on until he's
- 26:30Speaker 2: got legs and such. They had to get him out
- 26:34Speaker 2: of there. To get him some clothes because he never
- 26:36Speaker 2: had any before. His dad helped him to the door
- 26:38Speaker 2: because he was unsteady on his feet. After all, the
- 26:40Speaker 2: Guinness stumbles into the street gets hit by a car,
- 26:46Speaker 2: instantly killing him. The bartender said, poor guy, he should
- 26:48Speaker 2: have just quit.
- 26:49Speaker 3: While he was ahead.
- 26:52Speaker 1: John, that's a that's yeah, I feel like you'd get
- 26:56Speaker 1: a groan.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm okay with that, John.
- 27:01Speaker 2: One day, Einstein has to speak at an important science conference.
- 27:04Speaker 2: On the way there, he tells his driver that looks
- 27:06Speaker 2: a bit like him. I seeing, I'm gonna go with
- 27:08Speaker 2: my Einstein person. I'm seek of all these conferences. I
- 27:10Speaker 2: always say the same thing over and over and over.
- 27:12Speaker 2: The driver agrees, you're right. As your driver, I attended
- 27:15Speaker 2: all of them, and even though I don't know anything
- 27:16Speaker 2: about science, I could probably give the conference in your place.
- 27:19Speaker 2: That's a great idea, says Einstein. Let's switch places. In
- 27:24Speaker 2: so they switch clothes, and as soon as they arrive,
- 27:25Speaker 2: the driver dressed as Einstein goes on stage and starts
- 27:28Speaker 2: giving the usual speech, while the real Einstein, dressed as
- 27:30Speaker 2: the car driver attends it. But in the crowd, there's
- 27:33Speaker 2: one scientist who wants to impress everyone and thinks of
- 27:35Speaker 2: a very difficult question to ask Einstein, hoping he won't
- 27:38Speaker 2: be able to respond. So this guy stands up interrupts
- 27:40Speaker 2: the conference by posing his a very difficult question. The
- 27:42Speaker 2: whole room goes silent, holding their breath, waiting for the response.
- 27:46Speaker 2: The driver looks at him dead in the eye says, sir,
- 27:49Speaker 2: your question is so easy.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Set. I'm going to let my driver answer. Oh, that's
- 27:57Speaker 3: a true story that didn't happen. Probably not a true story.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Let's do this week in history. We call it talk
- 28:05Speaker 2: about then talk about Sam. Better do John. This week
- 28:13Speaker 2: nineteen eighty four, The Terminator arrives. According to the nineteen
- 28:16Speaker 2: eighty four action classic movie The Terminator, he arrived back
- 28:20Speaker 2: in nineteen eighty four from the year twenty twenty nine
- 28:24Speaker 2: on this week to kill Sarah Connor to prevent her
- 28:28Speaker 2: son from saving humans from machines in a post apocalyptic
- 28:32Speaker 2: or popular pop pop sorry my mouth is still healing
- 28:35Speaker 2: post apocalyptic future twenty twenty nine, and that's we're coming
- 28:38Speaker 2: upon twenty twenty nine, which is supposed to be when
- 28:40Speaker 2: the machines take over, which we could make I can
- 28:44Speaker 2: make a case. We can make a case that Skynet
- 28:47Speaker 2: is here, my friends. Yeah, the movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger
- 28:51Speaker 2: as you know, as the Terminator. Did you know who
- 28:53Speaker 2: was originally suggested for the terminator role?
- 28:57Speaker 4: Still one?
- 28:58Speaker 2: Bruce will if I gave you a thousand, yes, okay? O.
- 29:01Speaker 2: J Simpson come on, this was you know, this is
- 29:04Speaker 2: nineteen eighty four interesting? You know Heisman, dude? Yeah, he
- 29:07Speaker 2: was in you know whatever. Director James Cameron did not
- 29:11Speaker 2: feel Simpson would be believable.
- 29:12Speaker 3: As a killer.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, are we still in the joke segment?
- 29:17Speaker 3: I'm telling you Sebster. Salon m.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Mel Gibson also turned down the role, so you were close.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Schwarzenegger was originally wanted for the role of Kyle Reese,
- 29:25Speaker 2: the human soldier sent from twenty twenty nine to rescue
- 29:28Speaker 2: Sarah Connor, but Cameron thought Schwarzenegger would make a better terminator.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Schwarzenegger speaks fewer than one hundred words in the film.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Wow, that's a good payday for one hundred words.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Yeah. John.
- 29:39Speaker 2: This Week nineteen eighty one, Pope John Paul the Second
- 29:44Speaker 2: was shot escape Turkish terrorist Mamet ali Achaz shoots Pope
- 29:50Speaker 2: John Paul the Second in Saint Peter Square at Vatican City.
- 29:54Speaker 2: The Pope was struck four times. The man was apprehended
- 29:57Speaker 2: and later sentenced to life in prison, but the Pope forget,
- 30:00Speaker 2: gave him and was pardoned by Italian President Carlo Azeglio
- 30:04Speaker 2: Siumpy Chumpy at the Pope's request, and then deported a
- 30:08Speaker 2: Turkey in two thousand, where he served a ten year sentence.
- 30:12Speaker 2: The reason that makes the list is because one of
- 30:14Speaker 2: my favorite artists I got named Steve Taylor. Yeah, in
- 30:16Speaker 2: the eighties, he had a song on one of his
- 30:18Speaker 2: records called to Forgive, Oh will we live to Forgive?
- 30:22Speaker 2: And he talked in one of his interviews about that song.
- 30:26Speaker 2: He wrote it after seeing a photo, a very famous
- 30:29Speaker 2: photo of Pope John Paul the Second in prison forgiving
- 30:33Speaker 2: the man who had shot him and tried to assassinate him,
- 30:35Speaker 2: and he was so moved by that photo.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Did the guy accept his forgiveness someone?
- 30:39Speaker 2: I guess I'm trying to think one of the claims,
- 30:42Speaker 2: let's see, yeah, I hired him for He made conflicting
- 30:46Speaker 2: claims about who hired him for the assassination attempt. One
- 30:48Speaker 2: of the claims was that Russian government hired him because
- 30:50Speaker 2: of the Pope's involvement in Polish solidarity. Others claimed that
- 30:55Speaker 2: he had hired him, including Cardinal A Gastino Cassoli and
- 31:00Speaker 2: the Iatola Komany. So they were never really figured out
- 31:03Speaker 2: who had hired the guy. He had conflicting Yeah, so
- 31:06Speaker 2: who knows who what the real story was.
- 31:08Speaker 1: He was the guy.
- 31:08Speaker 3: But the Pope did the Christian thing and forgave the guy,
- 31:12Speaker 3: which is.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Pretty Are you sure that's still the Christian thing to do?
- 31:15Speaker 3: I think so, I don't know.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Forgive our enemies.
- 31:18Speaker 3: I think we're gonna think we're.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Going to own them. Own your enemies, is what I think.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Jesus said. Sorry, I'm getting on a soapbox.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Why don't you, Pope box, come on this thing?
- 31:29Speaker 3: And that's our show.
- 31:31Speaker 2: A couple more John On This Week nineteen ninety two,
- 31:37Speaker 2: While on a walk across America to prove that people
- 31:39Speaker 2: are basically good, Fred Turner is robbed and pushed off
- 31:44Speaker 2: a bridge. Oh dear, that's a truth that really happened.
- 31:47Speaker 2: This was early on in his walk. He was what happened,
- 31:50Speaker 2: and I looked it up because this is that's all
- 31:51Speaker 2: it said in the little This Week in History thing
- 31:53Speaker 2: and I was like, I gotta know more about this.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Nineteen ninety two, Fred Turner walked across America to prove
- 31:59Speaker 2: most people are good after It was a five months
- 32:02Speaker 2: journey from South Carolina to California, inspired by his truck
- 32:05Speaker 2: breaking down. This is almost like a forest gump thing.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Had to be the inspiration of the forest gump thing
- 32:10Speaker 2: where he just decides to just take off running and
- 32:12Speaker 2: he just I just kept on run, okay. Despite being
- 32:15Speaker 2: robbed and pushed over a bridge early on, he continued
- 32:18Speaker 2: the track to California, meeting supportive people along the way.
- 32:21Speaker 2: His motivation is to didn't die. He did not die.
- 32:24Speaker 2: He turned the misfortune into a cross country trip after
- 32:26Speaker 2: his truck broke down in South Carolina. He aimed to
- 32:29Speaker 2: prove a personal philosophy that ninety nine percent of people
- 32:31Speaker 2: are good. Despite a violent encounter early after beginning his trip,
- 32:36Speaker 2: he was robbed and pushed over a bridge, yet continued
- 32:39Speaker 2: the walk. He finished the walk in Carlsback, California, in
- 32:42Speaker 2: October of nineteen ninety two, often recognized by his red suspenders.
- 32:47Speaker 2: So that makes me think that's where the forest gump things.
- 32:49Speaker 2: If you remember a forest gump pad of the hat,
- 32:50Speaker 2: and I think he did he have suspenders. I can't remember,
- 32:52Speaker 2: but there was.
- 32:53Speaker 3: A there was a motif.
- 32:55Speaker 4: I wore many outfits in those scenes.
- 32:57Speaker 1: But anyway, certainly the red hat I liked.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I liked the idea of the walk and but yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 2: and he even while challenged his belief in people was
- 33:06Speaker 2: challenged early on, he was like, you know what, not
- 33:09Speaker 2: giving up?
- 33:09Speaker 4: I think we should walk across something. Yeah, it'd be fun.
- 33:12Speaker 4: We could talk a lot.
- 33:13Speaker 1: We could talk walk about that, walk about that.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Come on, y'all. Please don't push us over a bridge
- 33:19Speaker 3: and rob us.
- 33:21Speaker 1: John, you do I'm stopping, Yeah, going, that's right.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going back home.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be I don't have my will power
- 33:27Speaker 2: that young Fred Turner had my truck breaks.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Down, I'm probably going home.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going home.
- 33:33Speaker 3: No, we could just walk. I'd be like, hey, I
- 33:36Speaker 3: got triple A. What if we gave up? John?
- 33:41Speaker 2: That's always an option. John this Week finally born this
- 33:45Speaker 2: week nineteen fifty One of the greatest musical artists of
- 33:50Speaker 2: all time, possibly the greatest musical artists of all time,
- 33:52Speaker 2: Stevie Wonder. He was an American Grammy and Oscar winning
- 33:57Speaker 2: Hall of fame singer blind since shortly after. He was
- 34:00Speaker 2: a child prodigy who signed with Motown when he was
- 34:02Speaker 2: just eleven years old. Isn't that crazy? Well, I think
- 34:06Speaker 2: he was called Little Stevie Wonder. Then, when he was thirteen,
- 34:09Speaker 2: his single Fingertips made number one on the Billboard Hot
- 34:12Speaker 2: one hundred, making him the youngest artist ever to top
- 34:14Speaker 2: the chart. He was one of the best selling musical
- 34:16Speaker 2: artists of all time, having sold over one hundred million records.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Cool I didn't know this.
- 34:21Speaker 2: His blind was a result of being born six weeks
- 34:23Speaker 2: premature and placed in an oxygen rich hospital incubator, which
- 34:26Speaker 2: caused the growth of his eyes to stop, resulting in
- 34:28Speaker 2: detached retinas. You know, there's this, there's a big, you
- 34:32Speaker 2: know whatever conspiracy that he's not really blind, because there's
- 34:34Speaker 2: been a few instances where like a mike'stand starts to
- 34:36Speaker 2: fall over when he reaches out. Some people think he
- 34:38Speaker 2: can see shapes and shadows and things, but he's got
- 34:40Speaker 2: if he's got attached retinas, he sees nothing. Because I
- 34:42Speaker 2: looked it up, if you have to attach retinas. So
- 34:45Speaker 2: it could be that he just hears. He hears it
- 34:46Speaker 2: so well that he's like that's falling and he reaches
- 34:48Speaker 2: out to kind of steady it. Yeah, but uh, Stevie Wonder,
- 34:52Speaker 2: I mean I think, for my money, Aretha and Stevie. Yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 2: there's nobody better. Michael Jackson maybe, but you could make
- 34:58Speaker 2: a case. But like Stevie Wonder, you hear that voice,
- 35:01Speaker 2: You're immediately it's transfixing. It's unbelievable. Yeah, it's so clean
- 35:06Speaker 2: and smooth, yeah, and soulful. I mean it's so good.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Talented dude, man. Yeah, yeah, my ant goes off to
- 35:14Speaker 2: like the people who style him and dress him because
- 35:17Speaker 2: it's like, does he have input? I just wonder, like,
- 35:20Speaker 2: you look great, Stevie. I mean there's a lot of
- 35:22Speaker 2: trust there. Oh yeah, there's a lot of true you know.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean I would imagine when he started his
- 35:29Speaker 4: career was less concerned, but you know, as as rock
- 35:33Speaker 4: stars continued to grow, right at, the image became more
- 35:36Speaker 4: and more.
- 35:37Speaker 3: It's just, man, there's a a lot of trust going.
- 35:39Speaker 4: You look at those old stars like country stars and
- 35:43Speaker 4: stuff back in the twenties and thirties, I mean they
- 35:46Speaker 4: can look as haggard.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the whole point.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you want to look like the common man, that
- 35:50Speaker 2: was the kind of music you're making now, it's like, yeah,
- 35:53Speaker 2: it's a visual medium.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Everything's visual and yeah, I don't know.
- 35:56Speaker 4: I'm going for the whole common man thing.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Thank you, John, And it's you're a nailing it, I
- 36:01Speaker 2: tell you. Too common almost some.
- 36:02Speaker 4: Would say uncommon.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Subpar. Well, anyway, that's fine. I don't know. Anyway, that's
- 36:10Speaker 3: the this week in history. For this week, it's a
- 36:12Speaker 3: good I think it was a good show.
- 36:14Speaker 1: It was a great show. Okay, it had well you
- 36:16Speaker 1: overseld it. Oh sorry, yeah, it was just okay, okay,
- 36:20Speaker 1: it'll do.
- 36:20Speaker 4: Adequate, it'll do. Yeah, we have a friend that he's
- 36:23Speaker 4: as adequate as if it's a really positive thing. That
- 36:26Speaker 4: was adequate.
- 36:27Speaker 3: That was I'd go so far as to say it
- 36:30Speaker 3: was okay. Yeah.
