Transcript
- 0:28Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to Imperfect Marketing, the podcast that's helping you make sense of the marketing world, one episode at a time.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Today we're tackling a topic that's both exciting and nerve-wracking for anyone starting their podcasting journey naming your podcast.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I would say this is the hardest thing I had to do, but naming your podcast is a big deal.
- 0:49Speaker 1: It's often the first thing potential listeners see.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's the one thing they need to remember to find you again.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So how do you come up with a name that's catchy, descriptive and unique?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Well, let's dive in.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So first I want you to start by brainstorming.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Grab a pen and paper, open a blank document, open up chat, gpt, write down every name idea that comes to mind.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Don't filter yourself in this initial stage.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I just want you getting those creative juices flowing right.
- 1:20Speaker 1: What are things?
- 1:21Speaker 1: you know your topic right, so what could you title it?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Once you've got a solid list, that's when you start refining.
- 1:30Speaker 1: You're looking for a name that achieves three main goals It should represent your content, it should appeal to your target audience and it's unique within the podcasting landscape.
- 1:39Speaker 1: You definitely don't want people to have to think too hard.
- 1:43Speaker 1: One of my favorite podcast names is by Jenna Kutcher and her podcast is called the Gold Digger G-O-A-L-D-I-G-G-E-R, so Gold Digger.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So sort of like Gold Digger, but Gold Digger.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So it's cute, it's funny, it appeals to her audience, it's business related.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's really perfect for her, right?
- 2:08Speaker 1: But you look at Amy Porterfield's podcast Online Marketing Made Easy, nice, super simple and easy.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You know what she's going to be talking about online marketing, right?
- 2:22Speaker 1: So think about how you can attract your audience and how it's going to resonate with them.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Now, representing your content means that it needs to give them a clear idea about what it's about.
- 2:36Speaker 1: If it's about travel adventures, think about a name like Couch Potato Chronicles, right.
- 2:42Speaker 1: That's not really going to work.
- 2:44Speaker 1: So think about something more like Wandering Wayfarer, right.
- 2:49Speaker 1: So again, think about your podcast.
- 2:52Speaker 1: What your topic is, you know mine is about marketing not being a perfect science.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That's why it's called imperfect marketing, because I want people to embrace not being perfect with their marketing, because the quicker you get to market, usually the more sales that you can have, right?
- 3:07Speaker 1: So when you're considering your audience, your podcast name should resonate with the people you want to attract, okay.
- 3:16Speaker 1: If you want to talk about advanced coding techniques, right.
- 3:22Speaker 1: A name like Code Crackers, beyond the Basics might appeal more to your audience in something like the Computer Podcast, right?
- 3:31Speaker 1: So I want you again to think about what is going to appeal to your audience.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Finally, uniqueness Once you've narrowed down your list to a few potential names, do a quick search, see if they're already in use.
- 3:44Speaker 1: You can search on Apple Podcasts or on Spotify.
- 3:47Speaker 1: You can also go ahead and search the US Patent and Trademark Office to see if anybody is using that name for anything, so that that way it's really unique.
- 3:56Speaker 1: You want a name that's going to stand out in the podcast directories, not get lost in a sea of similar titles.
- 4:03Speaker 1: The best podcast names are usually a balance of clarity and creativity.
- 4:08Speaker 1: They give listeners a hint about the content, but do so in a way that piques their interest and curiosity.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So one last tip I'm going to recommend is say your potential names out loud.
- 4:22Speaker 1: How do they sound?
- 4:23Speaker 1: Are they easy to pronounce?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Because you're going to be saying this name a lot, trust me, and so will your listeners, hopefully.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So make sure it's a name that sounds good and is easy to remember.
- 4:35Speaker 1: So, as I wrap up today's episode, i want you to remember this Your podcast name is more than just a title.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It's a first impression, a brand, a promise to your listeners.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Take the time to choose a name that fits your podcast's personality and mission, and you'll be setting yourself up for success.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Until next time, keep challenging the status quo and making your mark in the podcasting world.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Thanks so much for tuning in here to Imperfect Marketing.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We're going to catch you on the next episode.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Thanks, and have a great rest of your day.
