- 1:28Speaker 2: also going to be unpacking a spicy a DM which
- 1:31Speaker 2: this week is all about keeping up with the ever
- 1:34Speaker 2: increasing cost of living. When I said spicy, I didn't
- 1:37Speaker 2: mean dramatic. I mean just like it feels really awful
- 1:40Speaker 2: in your mouth. Rising cost of living hate. But that
- 1:47Speaker 2: was way too realistic. Nobody needs that in their lives
- 1:51Speaker 2: on a Friday. Our community deserve better than that. Beck
- 1:55Speaker 2: sounded wet, not okay. When I'm going to do a
- 1:59Speaker 2: fake from it, I'm going to commit. No, I'm committed.
- 2:01Speaker 2: We're not committed. We're not committed. You sit in the
- 2:04Speaker 2: corner and think about what you've done this disc How
- 2:07Speaker 2: has your week been. It's been really good.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I put up my tree this week. Finally, very exciting
- 2:13Speaker 4: and more excitingly, today we started our twelve days of
- 2:17Speaker 4: giveaways on Instagram.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Like so fun. We've got Sony brands that I've given
- 2:23Speaker 2: us stuff to give away, but like it's good stuff. Bick,
- 2:25Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that's exciting.
- 2:27Speaker 4: We run this last year. It's really good. We've got
- 2:29Speaker 4: some stuff from some incredible brands and it's just a
- 2:31Speaker 4: fun way to say thank you to you guys for listening.
- 2:33Speaker 4: We so appreciate it and we know we couldn't do
- 2:35Speaker 4: it without you, And especially with this year being such
- 2:38Speaker 4: a tough year for a lot of people, we thought,
- 2:40Speaker 4: you know, anything we can do to hopefully make some
- 2:42Speaker 4: people's days would be awesome. So if you're not following
- 2:44Speaker 4: us on Instagram, head over because every other day, starting today,
- 2:48Speaker 4: we are giving away a fabulous present and I'm not
- 2:51Speaker 4: going to give it away. So if you want to
- 2:52Speaker 4: know what it is, here you go. Look, I'm not
- 2:55Speaker 4: going to give away the giveaway.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Gosh eck, your week being week has been so great.
- 3:03Speaker 2: You haven't stopped talking about the free red rooster you
- 3:05Speaker 2: got on Tuesday. Red rooster that's not sponsored. She just
- 3:08Speaker 2: got free red rooster.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Vibes are high this week, you guys.
- 3:11Speaker 4: It's Christmas y Christmas.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Totally Christmas party and our producers.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And Alisa is back from her tour of the States
- 3:23Speaker 2: with her.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Band Thario Lotharioario Lithario.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Also, I brought Christmas crack into the studio for our
- 3:33Speaker 2: Friday Drinks episode today. Jess had had it before, but
- 3:36Speaker 2: it had been at least twelve months since she had it.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Had never had it before. So good. It's so so good.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I feel like I promised you on last week's episode
- 3:46Speaker 2: that I would make it for you, because you kind
- 3:48Speaker 2: of side eyed me when I said to make Christmas
- 3:50Speaker 2: crack and you were like, hey, it's not family friend,
- 3:55Speaker 2: probably not how I would celebrate my Christmas Victoria, And
- 3:58Speaker 2: I was like, I'll make it for you. And then
- 4:00Speaker 2: when I explained to you that it's made of soladas,
- 4:03Speaker 2: you were like, I don't know if I want it.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Do you want it now?
- 4:06Speaker 5: I do want it now, maybe more than what I
- 4:09Speaker 5: initially thought it was.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Yeah, oh you know what I mean.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But it's good and it's cheap and you can make
- 4:14Speaker 2: it and gift it to people. It's just it's a
- 4:17Speaker 2: very wholesome, cheap present. Do you have people or just
- 4:21Speaker 2: have in your house at Christmas time? I love it.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yeah, And if you want to make it, there's a
- 4:25Speaker 4: real on our Instagram from last year from when we
- 4:27Speaker 4: made it.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Well, repost that on stories today and probably post another
- 4:31Speaker 2: recipe so that it's really easy to get. But also
- 4:35Speaker 2: thanks for asking me how week? Certainly good? Thanks for
- 4:39Speaker 2: asking I made Christmas crack. I decorated my Christmas Tree
- 4:42Speaker 2: with Jesse Gotria Chi.
- 4:44Speaker 4: It was very fun.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But last Friday's episode we pre recorded because we had
- 4:49Speaker 2: to fly to Sydney for the Australian Podcast Towards and
- 4:54Speaker 2: Jess was like, oh, like, if you're listening to it,
- 4:56Speaker 2: we don't know if we've won yet. Jess, what happened
- 4:59Speaker 2: last week?
- 5:00Speaker 6: We would?
- 5:01Speaker 4: He would so exciting. We are the fat business podcasts
- 5:05Speaker 4: in the whole country.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah. At the Australian Podcast Awards, which was so cool,
- 5:09Speaker 2: and Jess and I like we were sitting together kind
- 5:12Speaker 2: of watching the screen and they go through, like you know,
- 5:15Speaker 2: all of the people that are you know, up for
- 5:17Speaker 2: the award, and I was like, Mark Boris is in this.
- 5:20Speaker 2: If you don't know who Mark Boris is, he's big dog.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Like his podcast is very good. I listened to it.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I love it. There was you know my Millennial Money
- 5:28Speaker 2: who is one of my friends, Glenn James, and he's
- 5:30Speaker 2: just so good at podcasting. He's been doing it longer
- 5:33Speaker 2: than me, and like he just gets it and he
- 5:36Speaker 2: has a number of shows. And I was like, oh, like,
- 5:38Speaker 2: we don't stand a chance here. And then when we won,
- 5:41Speaker 2: Jess and I just looked at each other like wait what,
- 5:42Speaker 2: and then we screamed and then we went up and
- 5:44Speaker 2: it's probably the funniest video ever. It's obviously on our Instagram.
- 5:48Speaker 2: You can go and see it if you haven't seen it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: But everybody else was kind of like de mirror and
- 5:53Speaker 2: wearing these beautiful gowns and like going up and accepting
- 5:56Speaker 2: their award and being like thank you. Photo and Jess
- 5:58Speaker 2: and I like bouncing up.
- 5:59Speaker 4: They got so excited. She just did a move.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I was scared. It was so funny. Like We're in
- 6:09Speaker 2: this really big room. There's hundreds of people, and there's
- 6:12Speaker 2: like rows of seats right and Jess and I are
- 6:14Speaker 2: sitting like maybe five rows back from the front, and
- 6:18Speaker 2: you know, because genuinely, I was like, Oh, it doesn't
- 6:20Speaker 2: matter if we're like not on an end or like
- 6:21Speaker 2: at the front. I don't think we're gonna win, Like
- 6:24Speaker 2: we're not gonna have to get up. We did, and
- 6:26Speaker 2: then my pregnant butt had to like squeeze through everybody,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and I was like, regret, anyway, Beck, where were you sitting?
- 6:34Speaker 2: I was right out the front, So like, was there
- 6:36Speaker 2: anything in your way from coming up and accepting the award?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Well?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Anxiety anxiety I didn't know. I didn't know what the
- 6:44Speaker 2: protocol was. I was like, it's my first time here,
- 6:46Speaker 2: and like Jess and I like waving at that, being
- 6:48Speaker 2: like come up, come up, and she's just waving back,
- 6:50Speaker 2: and I was like a friend of your guys. I
- 6:52Speaker 2: was like, oh, hello, and like it moved so quickly
- 6:56Speaker 2: that we're obviously, yeah, that's the thing moved so quick.
- 6:59Speaker 2: He was like, it's so funny though, and like are
- 7:02Speaker 2: we coming off the stage? And I'm like, back, where
- 7:04Speaker 2: are you? Like this was us and I'm so sorry,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and You're like I didn't think it was us, and
- 7:08Speaker 2: I'm like it's the scream. But honestly, like, this isn't
- 7:12Speaker 2: the first time I'm going to win something. So next time, Audacious,
- 7:16Speaker 2: we're gonna win again.
- 7:17Speaker 4: We're gonna have to nominate and give us an award
- 7:19Speaker 4: so Beck can have her time to shine on stage.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Next time we are nominated for an award, I'm not
- 7:25Speaker 2: going up. Beck is doing a thank you speech. Oh wow, okay,
- 7:29Speaker 2: I can do that. I can do that. I'll make
- 7:30Speaker 2: you proud. All right, thank you, Thanks, let's move on. Obviously,
- 7:34Speaker 2: massive thank you to the community for always supporting us,
- 7:36Speaker 2: because without you guys, we'd literally not be anywhere, especially
- 7:40Speaker 2: winning awards, Like we're very proud of this one. I
- 7:43Speaker 2: feel like this is one of those ones where it's
- 7:46Speaker 2: a big deal in our industry, like and so for
- 7:49Speaker 2: us is like it's massive, Like for us, we're celebrating
- 7:52Speaker 2: so much. So thank you for all your support. But
- 7:56Speaker 2: back to the community, because that's what this episode is about.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Mister Scarci, wins have you pulled out to share with us?
- 8:01Speaker 4: Firstly, I've got one from Diana who said money win.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I did a fun little experiment and decided to collect
- 8:07Speaker 4: bottles and cans and invest the money I get from
- 8:10Speaker 4: them into Pepsi stock. A bit over three months later,
- 8:13Speaker 4: I have more than enough to get one free zero
- 8:16Speaker 4: point five leader Pepsi maxi yea from my Dividends Go
- 8:20Speaker 4: You Wore, which is actually so funny and very specific.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And Pepsi Max is like Jess's favorite.
- 8:27Speaker 4: This is really selfish because I just feel like Diana
- 8:29Speaker 4: is my people, because I'm all over the bottle recycling
- 8:31Speaker 4: and Psi Max.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so Jess, do you want to share with
- 8:35Speaker 2: the community what you did at my house the other day?
- 8:37Speaker 2: I'm just throwing it straight onto the bus. Beck you
- 8:39Speaker 2: ask her to be like, what did you do at
- 8:41Speaker 2: V's house? Hey, Jess, what did you have Vita?
- 8:44Speaker 4: She served me a lovely beverage a coke, a Chrispy coke,
- 8:47Speaker 4: and I said, can I take my can and your
- 8:49Speaker 4: can home so I.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Can recycle it? And then I was like, do you
- 8:52Speaker 2: want me to start collecting my cans and giving them
- 8:54Speaker 2: to you? And she said yes, So now I'm collecting
- 8:56Speaker 2: all of my so Jess can take them to the
- 8:58Speaker 2: recycling depot. That's cue. It's a good friend. That is
- 9:01Speaker 2: a really good friend. It's just really funny. She's like,
- 9:03Speaker 2: don't put that in the bin.
- 9:04Speaker 4: And I was like, I get.
- 9:06Speaker 2: That's I'll do the same. Look, I've got a can here,
- 9:09Speaker 2: I'll take it. Yeah, we're going to give it to Jess.
- 9:11Speaker 4: I kind of like Diana's idea, like I want to see,
- 9:13Speaker 4: like could I make a thousand dollars to invest because
- 9:15Speaker 4: if I could do it in the community, could do it?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean? Absolutely, you are now
- 9:19Speaker 2: the guinea pig. You have to make a thousand dollars
- 9:20Speaker 2: and it has to get invested.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Done, We'll document it, will see a good deal what next. Next,
- 9:25Speaker 4: I've got a money win from Dana, who said I've
- 9:28Speaker 4: been eyeing off the dice and air rap for ages
- 9:31Speaker 4: atal waited for the Black Friday sales. I managed to
- 9:34Speaker 4: get one price matched through the Good Guys and I
- 9:37Speaker 4: used a student discount and I got the whole blue
- 9:41Speaker 4: blush version, which is like the new colourway color, for
- 9:44Speaker 4: four hundred and seventy five dollars.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Or that's a good deal. For context, they're nearly nine
- 9:48Speaker 2: hundred dollars. I see, see, that's a very good deal.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Stacking them up, well done done.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And I am obsessed with my dice in it wrap,
- 9:56Speaker 2: like I can't tell you how obsessed I am. It's
- 9:58Speaker 2: the only hair toool that I will use. I mean,
- 10:01Speaker 2: it does seem WORTHDS love it and the hair tool
- 10:03Speaker 2: that works in my house, So don't know.
- 10:04Speaker 4: What that says. Next, I want a money in from Mary,
- 10:07Speaker 4: who said I made some purchases last week prior to
- 10:10Speaker 4: Black Friday and was disappointed to see most of the
- 10:13Speaker 4: items went on sale. I reached out to the retailers
- 10:16Speaker 4: and rather than have the hustle of returning and repurchasing,
- 10:19Speaker 4: they just refunded the difference back onto my method of purchase.
- 10:22Speaker 4: These were Christmas items that I had budgeted for, So
- 10:25Speaker 4: I'm counting that as a money win.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Overall, massive money.
- 10:28Speaker 4: If you don't ask, you don't get. We love that
- 10:30Speaker 4: for you. Well done, Mary. Next, I've got a money
- 10:32Speaker 4: win from Kest, who said, I love Christmas, but I
- 10:35Speaker 4: do not love how expensive some decorations are.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Oh same, girlfriend, feel that in my cy why are
- 10:41Speaker 2: you more than ten dollars? Like, obviously they can be
- 10:43Speaker 2: exorbitantly expensive, but in my head Christmas decoration that's under
- 10:47Speaker 2: ten dollars. I wanted to talk to.
- 10:48Speaker 4: A stick like a tree stick, a stick of with
- 10:51Speaker 4: some berries on. It's a little reper stick with some berries. Yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 4: it doesn't sound like it would be super expensive. Doesn't
- 10:56Speaker 4: even sound you see I decorate my tree with me.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Beg confused as to why she wanted to buy stick
- 11:01Speaker 2: with some berries on it.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it goes to the vibe. Just how much was
- 11:05Speaker 4: it I wanted to I didn't buy it with eighteen dollars.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Absolutely stick with some berries, stick with some berries on it.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Literally, I was like, not today, Satan, sorry, but you
- 11:13Speaker 4: have one st I found it more affordable. Oh okay, thankfully,
- 11:16Speaker 4: But Test said I've started making my own pomp pom decorations,
- 11:20Speaker 4: and she's made these really cute little wreaths she put
- 11:22Speaker 4: a photo in or those are cute cue and I
- 11:26Speaker 4: feel like that would be a really simple dare wife,
- 11:28Speaker 4: you know, the old the school pompom method, the string
- 11:30Speaker 4: around the thing and cut it and then you would
- 11:33Speaker 4: just I think she's glued the pomp poms to the wreath,
- 11:35Speaker 4: So it's a pretty simple day wife. Probably very kid
- 11:37Speaker 4: friendly too true.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Just do you want to come to my house and
- 11:40Speaker 2: make pomp poms?
- 11:41Speaker 4: I got cute.
- 11:41Speaker 2: You're invited too, But I think you'd be like, why
- 11:43Speaker 2: am I coming to make pomp poms? It's not for me?
- 11:48Speaker 2: That's okay, Well hold on, let's make it. Let's make
- 11:50Speaker 2: it for beck. They'll be free food. Okay, yeah me up.
- 11:55Speaker 4: But I look awesome, very well done. Test. They're beautiful
- 11:58Speaker 4: and could be a fun protect for somebody else like
- 12:00Speaker 4: jessin Victoria. Yeah, stay tuned to see us make our
- 12:03Speaker 4: own next. I've got money in from Ali who said
- 12:05Speaker 4: money win. If you're with Origin Energy, you can get
- 12:08Speaker 4: movie tickets for forty percent off what I went and
- 12:11Speaker 4: saw the New Hunger Games with my partner at our
- 12:13Speaker 4: local hoints and tickets only cost us thirty five dollars.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Oh that's a money.
- 12:16Speaker 4: We sign up for the rewards too, because I think Village.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I remember with Village and you get like half price
- 12:21Speaker 4: tickets during the week or something.
- 12:23Speaker 2: So is it just me? Or is thirty five dollars
- 12:25Speaker 2: still really expensive to go to movies? In my head?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Fifteen dollars day? Yeah? Is it?
- 12:30Speaker 5: Ye?
- 12:30Speaker 4: It's about so expensive to go to the cinemer.
- 12:33Speaker 2: My brain has not caught up with the cost of
- 12:36Speaker 2: living crisis we're currently in. It just hasn't caught up.
- 12:39Speaker 2: It's like inflation is hitting ice creams at McDonald's in
- 12:43Speaker 2: my head, fifty cents still thirty cents even, Oh yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 2: but fifty cents because they've gone up for us. But
- 12:49Speaker 2: also they're not I know, I'm just optimistic at best. Yeah.
- 12:53Speaker 2: It was very depressing.
- 12:54Speaker 4: The thinks about well, how about this last money win?
- 12:57Speaker 4: Then from Beck who said, it's my birthday day and
- 12:59Speaker 4: I got some birthday freebies. Oh, happy birthday, Happy birthday.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Be We've got to get Krispy Kreme and a boost.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah, because you get both of those free on your.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Birthday and I thought maybe we could pop a little
- 13:10Speaker 4: post up during the week. In the next week, let
- 13:13Speaker 4: us know what you got for free on your birthday.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Maybe we'll compile a list and make it a post.
- 13:17Speaker 2: For you that would actually make a really good Instagram post. Two. Yes,
- 13:20Speaker 2: so we'll like get the list from the community free
- 13:23Speaker 2: things that you can get, and then we'll make a
- 13:24Speaker 2: list that you can save and go back to when
- 13:26Speaker 2: it's your birthday or sign up to everything so that
- 13:28Speaker 2: they all compiling in on your birthday.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah, head to the Facebook group, let us know we
- 13:32Speaker 4: got free and we'll make a little post week genius
- 13:35Speaker 4: doing the Lord's work.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah, at the very least doing the Lord's work. Is
- 13:39Speaker 2: that it, Jessica, I got this fantastic. It is time
- 13:43Speaker 2: to move on to Beck's broke Tips. Beck, what do
- 13:46Speaker 2: you bring into the table this week? Okay, are you
- 13:48Speaker 2: guys ready? I thought more than ready.
- 13:50Speaker 5: Okay, amazing, amazing. Obviously each week I do two from
- 13:53Speaker 5: the community, one for myself. So the first community broke
- 13:57Speaker 5: tip comes from two who says, coming back from holiday
- 14:00Speaker 5: will make you feel a little bit broke, which is,
- 14:02Speaker 5: you know, totallyable as well. So to offset that, do
- 14:06Speaker 5: the friends thing. I'm not a friend's watcher, but I'm
- 14:08Speaker 5: sure this will probably relate to some people. But take
- 14:11Speaker 5: what you are entitled to in the hotels that are
- 14:14Speaker 5: like little butters, like bits of like you know, condiments,
- 14:18Speaker 5: hair tyres, shavers, chowonette's, toothbrushes, anything can get your hands
- 14:22Speaker 5: on all the bathroom necessities. And these are like things
- 14:25Speaker 5: that you know you might even get just one use
- 14:28Speaker 5: out of.
- 14:28Speaker 2: But if you collect it all and you.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Just happen to I love taking train with you, then
- 14:33Speaker 5: honestly it will save money in the long run. Even
- 14:35Speaker 5: if it's a couple bucks here and there, you're still
- 14:37Speaker 5: saving money. Which if you're broke, you don't care what
- 14:41Speaker 5: your hair ti is coming out, if you don't care
- 14:42Speaker 5: what your little butter's coming out of you, Just so.
- 14:44Speaker 2: You know, you're just like Sligh, I've got butter. I
- 14:46Speaker 2: didn't have it before, did I Exactly right?
- 14:48Speaker 4: If you go somewhere that has like something that's package nized.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Do you remember this when we went to Monaco the mustard, Yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 4: we stole all the must cute little chat I gave
- 14:58Speaker 4: them away Sudanik.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I used that so us can we afford to buy souvenirs. Yes,
- 15:04Speaker 2: will we know?
- 15:05Speaker 4: They were delicious, Like they were known for what is
- 15:07Speaker 4: the type of mustard?
- 15:09Speaker 2: I think it was like a Dijon mustard. Yeah, like
- 15:11Speaker 2: it was like they used it there everywhere, like it
- 15:13Speaker 2: was it was very French. Oh yeah, they were delicious
- 15:17Speaker 2: and they can these beautiful little jars and so literally
- 15:19Speaker 2: every breakfast, I would just take five. Yeah, no, she would,
- 15:22Speaker 2: and then she would make me hold them as well.
- 15:24Speaker 2: She said, you've got to curry some these don't fit.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Yeah, you've got purse put them in there, good and
- 15:27Speaker 4: then you.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Save money on buying giddy.
- 15:30Speaker 4: I was like, they're the perfect little thing. They were
- 15:31Speaker 4: actually delicious.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It was like the time I went to a fancy
- 15:34Speaker 2: hotel and they had ASoP like all of the bathroom.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Like not only did I take them, I hid them
- 15:41Speaker 2: from housekeeping each day by putting them in my suitcase
- 15:44Speaker 2: so that they'd have to replenish them so I'd be
- 15:46Speaker 2: like double. But I was asked the other day by someone.
- 15:50Speaker 2: They were like, oh, I never take the stuff from
- 15:52Speaker 2: the hotel because I'm never going to use it. And
- 15:54Speaker 2: I was like, they're so good for travel. One, they're
- 15:56Speaker 2: good for travel, but also I would actually advocate still
- 16:00Speaker 2: hoarding those things, like if you go on a holiday
- 16:02Speaker 2: and you've got some additional amenities or toilet trees that
- 16:05Speaker 2: you could pick up. My favorites are like where they
- 16:07Speaker 2: have the individually wrapped toothbrushes and stuff because share the
- 16:11Speaker 2: dignity each year do there it's in the bag campaign,
- 16:14Speaker 2: or you get an old handbag, or you go to
- 16:16Speaker 2: the op shop and buy a bag, or you could
- 16:17Speaker 2: just put it in any bag and you feel it
- 16:19Speaker 2: full of a heap of like toilet trees and useful
- 16:21Speaker 2: things for women going through situations where they might not
- 16:24Speaker 2: have those, And so for me, I just hold them.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I have a plastic container in my room and I
- 16:29Speaker 2: just like dump it in there. And then when these
- 16:32Speaker 2: it's in the bag campaigns happen, I just like basically go,
- 16:35Speaker 2: I have so much stuff. The same thing is true
- 16:39Speaker 2: for like you know in Priceline does they're like, ah,
- 16:42Speaker 2: they do a big sample bag. So like if you
- 16:45Speaker 2: spend like sixty five dollars in store, you get this
- 16:47Speaker 2: massive sample bag and that's cool. You can read it
- 16:49Speaker 2: and take all your favorite things. But let's be honest,
- 16:51Speaker 2: you don't use everything sure, So like save the bag,
- 16:54Speaker 2: save the product, and donate it to somebody who needs it. Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 4: I love that idea.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I love that idea. It's really cute. That's great, especially
- 17:01Speaker 2: coming Christmas time. V what a great idea. Exactly what
- 17:04Speaker 2: else have you got back?
- 17:05Speaker 5: Okay, so this next one comes from Soften, who has
- 17:08Speaker 5: said that her and him mum kind of are susceptible
- 17:11Speaker 5: to sensitive and acne prone skin. So what could do
- 17:16Speaker 5: is exactly so they do have products that are prescribed
- 17:21Speaker 5: by a dermatologist.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Expensive. Yeah, and so with this this is.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Probably something that maybe a lot of us already do,
- 17:28Speaker 5: but it is a good refresher for me. It was
- 17:30Speaker 5: at least as well, because if you get to the
- 17:33Speaker 5: bottom of a product and it's you can't physically squeeze
- 17:38Speaker 5: anymore out all of us. I think I feel like
- 17:41Speaker 5: most of us will chuck it out.
- 17:42Speaker 2: But instead, what you could do you just.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Cut that bad boy over. Yeah, of course, maybe mix
- 17:48Speaker 5: it with a little bit of water. Yeah, absolutely, you've
- 17:50Speaker 5: got I'm gonna.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Say, at least like a quarter bottle left, you know
- 17:55Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 17:56Speaker 4: Total crevices.
- 17:58Speaker 2: The crevices really get in there. And like someone who
- 18:01Speaker 2: loves skincare, I am always breaking open the package. I
- 18:04Speaker 2: did not pay this much to not use the whole
- 18:06Speaker 2: thing totally.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Toothpaste as well, like any product you have, and do
- 18:10Speaker 5: you guys do that with the shampoo in your shower.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Put a little bit of water. Feel like at the
- 18:16Speaker 2: start of the shampoo bottle, I'm like squeezing heaps out
- 18:18Speaker 2: and then it starts to get real loan, and then
- 18:20Speaker 2: I'm like a little bit more frugal. Then it gets
- 18:22Speaker 2: real low and I'm like shaking it up with water
- 18:24Speaker 2: and using it sparingly, and I'm like, why can't I
- 18:26Speaker 2: be consistent?
- 18:27Speaker 5: I know, I know, but that's basically what often suggests,
- 18:30Speaker 5: which is great, especially if you are spending a lot
- 18:33Speaker 5: of money on Dermatologically tested and prescribed products get quite expensive.
- 18:40Speaker 2: So if you're getting scripts, please make sure you're going
- 18:42Speaker 2: to the discount chemists. Yes, please get a generic smart
- 18:48Speaker 2: work smarter, not harder. Exactly exactly, Beck, what's your broke tip?
- 18:52Speaker 1: So?
- 18:53Speaker 2: My one? This is one that I do with my
- 18:55Speaker 2: best friend Olivia. I always talk about it when we're sick.
- 18:57Speaker 5: What we do for each other is we'll make like
- 18:59Speaker 5: the cheapest ever chicken soup, which is literally hot.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Water you know Misseell's chicken stock. Ye, great chicken stock.
- 19:07Speaker 2: It's also vegan.
- 19:08Speaker 5: It's also vegan, but it's the tastiest chicken stock I've
- 19:11Speaker 5: ever had. And because it's so full of flavor, you
- 19:15Speaker 5: don't have to use much, so I'll use a tea
- 19:17Speaker 5: spoon in a mug.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I may broad and drink that when I'm
- 19:20Speaker 2: not well too. Yes, and then frozen veggies, and that
- 19:23Speaker 2: is I don't even do the frozen veggies. I'm just
- 19:25Speaker 2: out here drinking chicken stock. Yeah, I do.
- 19:28Speaker 5: I often do, just drink the chicken stock. But I'm like,
- 19:30Speaker 5: if I want some maybe some more nutrition, would.
- 19:33Speaker 2: You put any light noodles in it? Or is that
- 19:34Speaker 2: too fancy? This is optional.
- 19:36Speaker 5: You can do rice, you can do noodles if you
- 19:38Speaker 5: have the budget for that, if you don't, if you
- 19:40Speaker 5: literally just living by I don't know, two cents a
- 19:44Speaker 5: week or whatever.
- 19:45Speaker 2: But it's also really wholesome, Like when you're not whole,
- 19:48Speaker 2: like and you're laying in bed and you just feel
- 19:50Speaker 2: like trash hot drink, like swapping it out for tea,
- 19:53Speaker 2: it just feels so much more nourishing. It feels really good. Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 2: and it is really really good for you.
- 19:58Speaker 5: So yeah, I would recommnd it's less than eight dollars
- 20:01Speaker 5: and that will last for.
- 20:03Speaker 2: The whole tin. Yeah, Like it goes.
- 20:06Speaker 5: On four dollars, and then the frozen veggies can be
- 20:08Speaker 5: up to like four dollars as well, so that will
- 20:11Speaker 5: last you, honestly one, two, three weeks.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Maybe that's something you should actually pick up, like if
- 20:15Speaker 2: you see it on sale, because it's usually like four bucks.
- 20:18Speaker 2: So like tin you set on sale. That's one thing
- 20:20Speaker 2: I reckon everyone should have in their pantry as kind
- 20:23Speaker 2: of like a staple totally, like especially them a seal
- 20:26Speaker 2: one because it's vegan, so it means that basically any
- 20:30Speaker 2: of your guests can have it. You can have it,
- 20:32Speaker 2: but like pop with some rice, you've got a very
- 20:35Speaker 2: cheap rosotto, Yes, yes, absolutely, but in a cup you
- 20:39Speaker 2: have chicken soup. I live and die by this stock.
- 20:42Speaker 2: It is delicious being sponsored by them if they don't
- 20:45Speaker 2: need to pay for this, we already stand you. That's
- 20:48Speaker 2: right exactly. Oh my gosh, I love that. Alright, let's
- 20:50Speaker 2: go to a really quick break because on the flip side,
- 20:53Speaker 2: we're going to talk about supporting a savings mindset, which
- 20:55Speaker 2: I think is really important and probably a good reminder
- 20:58Speaker 2: because we're about to go into a new year. But
- 21:00Speaker 2: then we're also going to be talking about you slipped
- 21:03Speaker 2: into our dms this week, and this one resonated with
- 21:05Speaker 2: us keeping up with the ever increasing cost of living guys,
- 21:10Speaker 2: don't go anywhere.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to the money
- 21:18Speaker 4: dilemma for the week.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Hi. There, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 21:23Speaker 2: can't solve? The She's on the Money team is here
- 21:26Speaker 2: to help. Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 21:29Speaker 2: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 21:32Speaker 2: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 21:35Speaker 2: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 21:37Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 21:40Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma. Hi, She's on the
- 21:45Speaker 2: Money Team.
- 21:47Speaker 6: My partner and I are going to Europe for six
- 21:49Speaker 6: weeks and the trips are about six months. We've both
- 21:52Speaker 6: been saving really really hard to make sure that we
- 21:54Speaker 6: can afford it, but with holiday season just around the corner,
- 21:57Speaker 6: I really want to be able to go do date
- 21:58Speaker 6: nights and have nice and while all this fits into
- 22:02Speaker 6: my budget. I can't help get over the thought in
- 22:04Speaker 6: the back of my head that says that I should
- 22:06Speaker 6: be saving the money for Europe rather than spending it
- 22:09Speaker 6: now so that we can do something more memorable. Is
- 22:12Speaker 6: there a way that we can have the best of
- 22:14Speaker 6: both worlds or some way I can change my mindset
- 22:17Speaker 6: to make me feel less guilty about wanting to do
- 22:19Speaker 6: these nice things.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Thank you. I think this is a really good question, actually,
- 22:23Speaker 2: and I mean we want to talk about supporting a
- 22:25Speaker 2: saving's mindset, which is what that question was really about.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I mean, not all of us can go to Europe,
- 22:31Speaker 2: that would be nice, but also, what are you doing
- 22:34Speaker 2: when you get back from Europe? So I think, Jess,
- 22:36Speaker 2: you've spoken about it before ession, before you come home,
- 22:40Speaker 2: and how much do you have in your account?
- 22:42Speaker 4: Like seventy two cents so couldn't afford a chocolate bar
- 22:44Speaker 4: at THEA.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But like, obviously Jess doesn't regret that life is full living.
- 22:51Speaker 4: I was young, you were young.
- 22:53Speaker 2: You hadn't discovered cheese on the money yet, and there's
- 22:56Speaker 2: lots to it, right, But I think you're in this
- 22:59Speaker 2: great because you've just told us you're going to Europe
- 23:02Speaker 2: for six weeks. How did you save for that in
- 23:04Speaker 2: six months? Could you please slide into our DMS, Like
- 23:07Speaker 2: I want all the goss because even I can't save
- 23:10Speaker 2: for a European holiday in six months. Like that's a lot,
- 23:13Speaker 2: right euro expency. Their flights at the moment are insane. Anyway,
- 23:18Speaker 2: moving on from that, how's your budget looking when you
- 23:21Speaker 2: get home? Do you already have a good emergency fund?
- 23:25Speaker 2: What is that going to look like when you get
- 23:27Speaker 2: home and you're relying on your emergency fund while you're
- 23:29Speaker 2: on holiday. Should you be setting up an emergency fund
- 23:32Speaker 2: for the holiday that when you get home you can
- 23:34Speaker 2: go right, well, I can just check that in my
- 23:36Speaker 2: pre existing emergency fund and actually be in a really
- 23:38Speaker 2: solid financial position when I get home. What does that
- 23:41Speaker 2: actually look like? And then go, Okay, this is a
- 23:45Speaker 2: really good example, and I'm not saying it's entitled. I
- 23:48Speaker 2: totally get it, Like, if I have a holiday booked,
- 23:50Speaker 2: I still want to live my best life with my husband.
- 23:53Speaker 2: But can we have our cake and eat it too?
- 23:56Speaker 2: Like you're going to Europe? Should we be compromising in
- 24:00Speaker 2: the short term to go No? I like, I'm just
- 24:02Speaker 2: gonna wait and have an extra bougie time abroad? Or
- 24:05Speaker 2: I'm just gonna wait and you know, really live up
- 24:08Speaker 2: the experience, like what does that actually look like to you?
- 24:11Speaker 2: So for me, in the lead up to a holiday,
- 24:13Speaker 2: I'm often very frugal because I'm like, oh, I feel
- 24:16Speaker 2: guilty that I'm already spending X amount on this holiday
- 24:20Speaker 2: and coming into the summer months, so easy to have
- 24:23Speaker 2: cheap dates. Yeah, fish and chips on the beach. Like
- 24:26Speaker 2: my husband and I when we lived a bit closer
- 24:28Speaker 2: to a beach, we often would like cook our dinner
- 24:31Speaker 2: as normal Miley spoon because we've been there since twenty eighteen.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Don't worry, guys would cook our Miley Spoons, but would
- 24:37Speaker 2: put it into tubwore containers and drop in the car
- 24:39Speaker 2: and drive down to the beach and that would be
- 24:40Speaker 2: our like beach date, like big bottle of soda water
- 24:43Speaker 2: calling it a night like weeknight date, or on the
- 24:45Speaker 2: beach we're eating our dinner, we're having a really good time.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But like, life doesn't have to be expensive in the
- 24:51Speaker 2: short term. I totally get wanting date nights and stuff
- 24:54Speaker 2: like that. And if it's in line with your values.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I'm not saying no, but you're asking because I'm assumed
- 25:00Speaker 2: your feeling like you probably should be doing more and
- 25:02Speaker 2: want a bit of a direction. And that's where I'm like, Okay, well,
- 25:05Speaker 2: what's your current emergency fund to look like? Do you
- 25:08Speaker 2: have any debt right now? Because sometimes people do save
- 25:11Speaker 2: up for a holiday, but they still have debt. Could
- 25:13Speaker 2: you be smashing some more of that down before you
- 25:15Speaker 2: go on holiday, or even putting that money aside as
- 25:18Speaker 2: like a in case, and then when you get home
- 25:21Speaker 2: having a plan to smash down some more debt. What
- 25:23Speaker 2: does that look like? Just what would you do? I mean,
- 25:26Speaker 2: you've come home before from holidays with literally like seventy
- 25:28Speaker 2: cents on your account, and that's really relatable. But if
- 25:32Speaker 2: you could have your cake and eat it too, what
- 25:34Speaker 2: cake would you be eating it? And wet?
- 25:35Speaker 4: I think it just it comes down to priorities. Like
- 25:37Speaker 4: for me, if you say to hey, I'm going away
- 25:39Speaker 4: in four weeks, we could go out, you know, to
- 25:41Speaker 4: the pub once a week for date night, relatively cheap
- 25:43Speaker 4: feed call it fifty bucks, That's which.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Would be going to because that's real cheap.
- 25:49Speaker 4: I'm assuming no alcohol, Oh okay, just a pub feed
- 25:52Speaker 4: or a parma it somewhere.
- 25:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 2: We met in Palma you could get for like twenty
- 25:57Speaker 2: four bucks. Recon could do that kill in our DMS.
- 26:00Speaker 2: People are going to be like Pott and farmers on
- 26:02Speaker 2: my side of town at eighteen dollars. What are you
- 26:04Speaker 2: talking about, Victoria, I don't know because I've never bought
- 26:06Speaker 2: a pot and parma.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I thought you're gonna say. People are going to come
- 26:09Speaker 4: saying it's not a palmer at a PARMI I'm not having.
- 26:13Speaker 2: That conversation because it's actually a parma.
- 26:15Speaker 4: So back on track. So let's assume fifty bucks a
- 26:17Speaker 4: week on a super cheap date night feed. That's two
- 26:20Speaker 4: hundred bucks in the four weeks before you go away.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Like for me, I would rather skip the fifty dollars meal,
- 26:25Speaker 4: do something at home, and then spend two hundred bucks
- 26:26Speaker 4: on a nice dinner at the Amalfi Coast. Like for me, Jimmy,
- 26:30Speaker 4: I think if you as much as you want to
- 26:31Speaker 4: have those date nights, and I think that's so fine.
- 26:34Speaker 4: I definitely think it's worth being a bit more frugal
- 26:37Speaker 4: now and then, even if you've already budgeted for your
- 26:39Speaker 4: experiences in Europe, can you maybe make something a bit
- 26:42Speaker 4: more because like when you go away, there's things always
- 26:45Speaker 4: come up. You go, oh, like we've booked the restaurant,
- 26:48Speaker 4: but I would like to get the nice steak instead
- 26:50Speaker 4: of the salad.
- 26:51Speaker 2: That was asked when we did Europe last year. Yeah,
- 26:54Speaker 2: but I reckon we did your pretty well. Like we
- 26:56Speaker 2: did a whole heap of fancy things, so like you
- 26:59Speaker 2: might have seen on Instagram, we're gonna d to these
- 27:00Speaker 2: really nice restaurants, but in between we would often like
- 27:04Speaker 2: go to like Marks and Spencers because we're in the
- 27:06Speaker 2: UK for a lot of bits, bloody lot and it
- 27:08Speaker 2: was so good, right, and we get like the meal
- 27:10Speaker 2: deal and it'd be like a sandwich and a snack
- 27:12Speaker 2: and a drink for like a very cheap price, like
- 27:14Speaker 2: what you can kind of get a seven eleven nowadays.
- 27:16Speaker 2: You know where you go in you get like a
- 27:17Speaker 2: sandwich and a snack and a drink and you're just like,
- 27:19Speaker 2: this is a good deal, and then we go eat
- 27:21Speaker 2: it in a park and that worked so so well,
- 27:24Speaker 2: so I feel like we had this really good balance.
- 27:27Speaker 2: I can sometimes we just go to the supermarket and
- 27:29Speaker 2: buy a few deli items and share them and grab
- 27:31Speaker 2: a like a loaf of bread basically, And those were
- 27:34Speaker 2: some of my favorite lunches. Yeah, like those were some
- 27:36Speaker 2: of my favorite experiences while traveling because Jess, how much
- 27:40Speaker 2: should we love going through the French supermarket?
- 27:42Speaker 1: Oh?
- 27:42Speaker 2: It's so fun? Like how many different butters do they need? Actually? Literally? Beck,
- 27:48Speaker 2: like why have they got different butters? They have like
- 27:50Speaker 2: condiment butter and then cooking butter. Oh my god, we
- 27:53Speaker 2: just have cooking butter.
- 27:55Speaker 4: A French day had to do it. To do it,
- 27:58Speaker 4: I would say, just look at how much do you
- 28:00Speaker 4: want to do this thing now versus what could that
- 28:02Speaker 4: get you in Europe? Because I feel like a lot
- 28:03Speaker 4: of the time, if you're making that match up, you're
- 28:05Speaker 4: probably gonna want to just pocket it away and save
- 28:08Speaker 4: it up so you can have a real fun. But
- 28:10Speaker 4: that's so true.
- 28:11Speaker 2: What would you do?
- 28:12Speaker 5: Look, you know, I'm the kind of person that wants
- 28:15Speaker 5: to have my cake and eat it too that what
- 28:19Speaker 5: you say.
- 28:21Speaker 2: And where are we eating it? I'm eating all of
- 28:23Speaker 2: them and everywhere.
- 28:25Speaker 5: I would also say, just like you know, date nights,
- 28:29Speaker 5: as you're saying, be like, they don't have to be
- 28:31Speaker 5: super expensive, Like nothing you do that sparks joy has
- 28:35Speaker 5: to be super expensive, Like you can you know, obviously
- 28:37Speaker 5: I've kind of gone back into the dating world.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So I'm kind of.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Finding things that are a little bit exciting, but like,
- 28:42Speaker 5: I don't know, pick up some like reflex cards or
- 28:44Speaker 5: conversation cars and like go sit in the park with
- 28:46Speaker 5: a five dollar bottle of red wine.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So fun.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Yeah, it's so fun just doing that kind of thing,
- 28:51Speaker 5: or like just make some fairy bread and take it
- 28:53Speaker 5: to the park or whatever you want to do, Like
- 28:55Speaker 5: do something that's honestly costs, like edg dry clay, you
- 28:59Speaker 5: know what I mean, make something for you.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Jess and I when we were in Europe, it wasn't
- 29:02Speaker 2: just Ess and I. There was a group of girls
- 29:03Speaker 2: that we went with. We played the game Heads Up.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It's a free but like that was really fun and
- 29:10Speaker 2: we'd do that in the park while having our sandwiches
- 29:12Speaker 2: and stuff, and it's just a bit lame. Actually that's
- 29:14Speaker 2: a good Christmas present recommendation. A couple of years ago,
- 29:17Speaker 2: I was gifted a picnic basket and I remember being like,
- 29:20Speaker 2: I don't go on picnics. This is awkward, but it's
- 29:25Speaker 2: a picnic basket. And do you know what you could do?
- 29:26Speaker 2: You go to the op shop and get one of
- 29:27Speaker 2: those real cute old school baskets and feel it full
- 29:30Speaker 2: of like you know, two cups, two plates, you know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: some disposable or reusable sorry cutlery that all of it's plastic.
- 29:38Speaker 2: That would make an epic gift because that's then you
- 29:42Speaker 2: being able to take your date nights out and about
- 29:44Speaker 2: and around like totally. You don't have to have a
- 29:46Speaker 2: proper picnic. You can just package up your Marley spoon
- 29:49Speaker 2: like I do, go down, but at least you've got
- 29:51Speaker 2: some reusable plastic cups that are not going to break,
- 29:53Speaker 2: and a place to put your stuff to travel and
- 29:55Speaker 2: it just feels nice. Yeah, get your like portable speaker
- 29:58Speaker 2: that basically everybody has chucked that in there. Maybe a
- 30:00Speaker 2: little beach towel. We don't need a proper picnic blanket.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Couple of beach towels and you've got a good date night. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 30:06Speaker 5: It can be really cheap and so fun trying to
- 30:08Speaker 5: find ways to not spend money.
- 30:10Speaker 2: So yeah, just try and then shut. We can try
- 30:12Speaker 2: a different beach, we can try different parts, we can
- 30:15Speaker 2: you know, go somewhere else. I love it, but I
- 30:17Speaker 2: also think it's important to have a savings mindset as well,
- 30:22Speaker 2: and that's where we want to talk about the future
- 30:24Speaker 2: and go, well, actually, what's life look like past Europe?
- 30:27Speaker 2: Because I think so many of us see that as
- 30:29Speaker 2: the destination and then forget that when you come back,
- 30:32Speaker 2: the real world's going to hit you. And earlier this
- 30:34Speaker 2: episode you were saying, you know, if you've been on
- 30:36Speaker 2: a big holiday, you come back poor. That's very common
- 30:40Speaker 2: as well, So I think we need to kind of
- 30:42Speaker 2: like do a good mix of both.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, let's get into our DM of the week.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Are you guys ready, so ready excited? Actually, are you excited?
- 30:51Speaker 2: I'm excited. It's the goss. Let's recap on the DM
- 30:54Speaker 2: that we got this week, because I think we're all
- 30:55Speaker 2: going to have different opinions this week. The DM reads,
- 30:58Speaker 2: She's on the money I need event. Is anyone else
- 31:02Speaker 2: struggling with a rising cost of living? Here's my current sitch.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I got paid twenty four hours ago, I've paid all
- 31:08Speaker 2: my bills, Queen, and I only have fifty five dollars
- 31:12Speaker 2: left to last me a whole week. Oh, I'm feeling
- 31:15Speaker 2: so stressed and so hopeless. On top of this shitty feeling,
- 31:20Speaker 2: I've had to pause my charitable donations and now I'm
- 31:22Speaker 2: feeling full of guilt. I feel so bad having to
- 31:26Speaker 2: cancel them, but I simply can't afford them anymore. We'd
- 31:29Speaker 2: love to know your thoughts on this and other things
- 31:31Speaker 2: people are having to give up due to this rising
- 31:33Speaker 2: cost of living. I feel so lucky that I still
- 31:36Speaker 2: live at home, and I can't imagine what it would
- 31:38Speaker 2: be like for those who are struggling to pay rent
- 31:40Speaker 2: or have kids that they need to support. Not really
- 31:42Speaker 2: a question, I guess just wanted to have an open
- 31:44Speaker 2: chat about this. Thank you so much in advance for
- 31:47Speaker 2: all your support. Love heart emoji feels seriously, I totally.
- 31:52Speaker 5: I mean, I feel like everyone in this room totally
- 31:54Speaker 5: gets that we've all been there and it is stressful.
- 31:57Speaker 5: And I guess, like something I mentioned a couple weeks ago,
- 32:00Speaker 5: like do I'm sure she's probably already done this, so
- 32:02Speaker 5: you know, I apologize if you already have, but like
- 32:05Speaker 5: doing like a membership and subscription audit, look at all
- 32:08Speaker 5: your ingoings and outgoings and see if there's anything that
- 32:10Speaker 5: you actually just haven't even noticed yet, Like you could
- 32:14Speaker 5: have a gym membership that you forgot about that keeps
- 32:17Speaker 5: coming out of your account and you're just like, I
- 32:19Speaker 5: actually don't need this anymore, and you know, kind of.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Just do it like a being ordered of that.
- 32:23Speaker 5: But honestly, if you've paid everything off, there's no better
- 32:25Speaker 5: feeling than being like, Okay, there's no one out there
- 32:27Speaker 5: that's waiting for me to pay money. I am broke,
- 32:30Speaker 5: but I also am not being chased, and the feeling
- 32:34Speaker 5: of anxiety from that if you don't have that there,
- 32:37Speaker 5: it's just so freeing. So, yes, you do have fifty
- 32:40Speaker 5: five dollars for the rest of the week. And I
- 32:42Speaker 5: think this is where just like trying to find ways
- 32:45Speaker 5: to eat as cheap as possible, it really does suck
- 32:49Speaker 5: when you're kind of in this position because nutrition is
- 32:52Speaker 5: not your main priority. It's literally just existing and not
- 32:57Speaker 5: dying from starvation. So prioritize the Maslow's hierarchy of needs
- 33:04Speaker 5: in this point, yes, and think about pop Off queen.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I think it's so kind though, Like, yeah, the fact
- 33:10Speaker 2: that you feel bad that you can't donate, but you're
- 33:12Speaker 2: in a situation where you only have fifty five bucks
- 33:15Speaker 2: left for the week, totally, it's so interesting. I've seen
- 33:18Speaker 2: a lot on social media, I would say, over the
- 33:20Speaker 2: last couple of weeks of people, you know, talking about Christmas, right,
- 33:24Speaker 2: and some people have said I'm really rich, and like,
- 33:27Speaker 2: here's how I stay rich. I just don't buy gifts
- 33:29Speaker 2: for people, and I don't ask for gifts for people,
- 33:32Speaker 2: and I just go, okay, like that's fine for you.
- 33:35Speaker 2: But from my perspective, the more money I come into,
- 33:38Speaker 2: I just look at it and go, this is so
- 33:41Speaker 2: much more impactful, Like, look at how many people I
- 33:43Speaker 2: could help. And like, you know, Jess and I are
- 33:46Speaker 2: both on the same page. Both of us have the
- 33:48Speaker 2: love language of gift giving. I am she gave me
- 33:50Speaker 2: a present today. There's a cup holder, like it's a
- 33:52Speaker 2: It goes on my Stanley cup and you can put
- 33:54Speaker 2: snacks in here, so you have snacks and drinks together,
- 33:57Speaker 2: and I love it. Gift receivings not a love lifeguage
- 34:00Speaker 2: of mine, but I'm obsessed because I know it's one
- 34:02Speaker 2: of Jess's. I'm genuinely excited about that. But both Jess
- 34:05Speaker 2: and I love giving gifts, and I feel like the
- 34:09Speaker 2: more opportunity I have to give gifts, especially ones that
- 34:12Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, Jess wouldn't be able for it, I'm
- 34:14Speaker 2: going to get it for her anyway. Like I love it.
- 34:16Speaker 2: It's my favorite thing in the world. And that's the
- 34:19Speaker 2: feeling I'm assuming people get when they are donating to charity.
- 34:23Speaker 2: It's why I donate to charity. I do a lot
- 34:24Speaker 2: of that because it's in line with my values. If
- 34:26Speaker 2: you guys don't know, I'm on the board of a charity,
- 34:29Speaker 2: Like I am so donations driven because I think it
- 34:32Speaker 2: is so important. But when you have fifty five dollars
- 34:35Speaker 2: to your name, it is about the thought is not
- 34:38Speaker 2: about putting money where your mouth is. I am so
- 34:42Speaker 2: fascinated by the concept that the less we have, the
- 34:45Speaker 2: more we often give, like you know the rich or
- 34:48Speaker 2: rich because they're super rich. Like it's I wrote an
- 34:52Speaker 2: article for The Age and the City Morning Herald a
- 34:54Speaker 2: couple of months ago, and it was literally why I
- 34:56Speaker 2: didn't think billionaires should exist nobody. From my perspective, I
- 35:01Speaker 2: will argue this until I'm blue in the face. No
- 35:03Speaker 2: one needs a billion dollars back, not one person. You
- 35:06Speaker 2: can live a very good life, but look how much
- 35:09Speaker 2: you could impact people and you're choosing not to. Yeah, anyway,
- 35:12Speaker 2: there's a lot that we could say on charity, but
- 35:15Speaker 2: charity is beautiful when you can afford it not at
- 35:18Speaker 2: the cost of your own living, not at the cost
- 35:21Speaker 2: of you being able to put food on the table,
- 35:23Speaker 2: of you being able to pay bills. You know what,
- 35:26Speaker 2: that's one of those things that we go that's so nice.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Let's put that on the goals list for when I
- 35:31Speaker 2: have more cash flow, when I have more money. But
- 35:34Speaker 2: right now, you're not going to be able to pour
- 35:36Speaker 2: from an empty cup, And an empty cup looks like
- 35:38Speaker 2: you don't have enough savings, you don't have an emergency account,
- 35:41Speaker 2: you might be in debt, you might be just struggling
- 35:43Speaker 2: week to week. There is no shame in saying, look, sorry,
- 35:47Speaker 2: I can't do charitable donations. They are one of the
- 35:50Speaker 2: first things to go. Please don't get me wrong, Like
- 35:53Speaker 2: charity is very close to my heart and it breaks
- 35:56Speaker 2: my heart sometimes to be like, oh, maybe we can't
- 35:58Speaker 2: afford this, but promise there's somebody else and what goes
- 36:02Speaker 2: around comes around. But also, just donating to charity doesn't
- 36:06Speaker 2: make you a nice person. Just putting money towards things
- 36:09Speaker 2: doesn't make you immediately inherently better. In fact, I would
- 36:13Speaker 2: prefer more understanding people than more people with money. So
- 36:18Speaker 2: I think it's just so important to just go, that's
- 36:20Speaker 2: actually okay, you can let go of that. You don't
- 36:22Speaker 2: need to donate, especially during a period of time where
- 36:25Speaker 2: you're financially crippled, Like that's not fair to put that
- 36:29Speaker 2: pressure on yourself.
- 36:31Speaker 4: You might need to lean on some of those resources,
- 36:33Speaker 4: like a local.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Pantry or something like that.
- 36:35Speaker 4: The other thing I would say is they might feel
- 36:36Speaker 4: conflicted about giving up their charity because it is something
- 36:39Speaker 4: that's a really core value to them. And like, obviously
- 36:41Speaker 4: if they're debating that, I completely understand. Could I suggest
- 36:45Speaker 4: looking at donating blood?
- 36:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and so important this time of year, no
- 36:50Speaker 2: one has time, so they all let it dwindle and
- 36:52Speaker 2: then our blood supplies across the country go down.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Yeah, so I would really recommendnating. But obviously it's free.
- 36:58Speaker 4: It just takes your time.
- 36:59Speaker 2: You get a free snack, You get fed when you're
- 37:00Speaker 2: there as well, which is a huge perk. And it's
- 37:03Speaker 2: always like the people are so lovely, you have such
- 37:04Speaker 2: a good chat, you can chill out for a little bit.
- 37:06Speaker 4: I feel like that's a great option. Or you could
- 37:08Speaker 4: also look at volunteering. I know a lot of charities
- 37:11Speaker 4: do Christmas drives, like at their soup kitchens, or they
- 37:13Speaker 4: do gift wrapping for gifts that they're distributing to children
- 37:16Speaker 4: and things like that. So if you can't pay, like girl,
- 37:20Speaker 4: I get it, Like I fully understand, and I see
- 37:22Speaker 4: you and I know that would be a really awful feeling,
- 37:25Speaker 4: especially if it is close to your heart, and feeling
- 37:28Speaker 4: like you have to give up a piece of you
- 37:29Speaker 4: or something that you're really proud or excited to be
- 37:31Speaker 4: involved in. But you need to put yourself first. And
- 37:34Speaker 4: I guess the compromise is maybe volunteering your time, if
- 37:37Speaker 4: you're able to do that instead, is still so important
- 37:40Speaker 4: and so needed, and a lot of people aren't able
- 37:43Speaker 4: to do that, so maybe you can fill a gap
- 37:45Speaker 4: in that way and still continue to fill your cup
- 37:47Speaker 4: and have an impact and do good things. But also
- 37:49Speaker 4: if you don't have the time, I think.
- 37:51Speaker 2: It can stay at core value.
- 37:53Speaker 4: It can stay a core value. You need to look
- 37:54Speaker 4: after yourself, and I don't want you to feel guilty
- 37:57Speaker 4: because you can only do what you can do, and
- 38:00Speaker 4: it's tough times out there for everybody, and we need
- 38:03Speaker 4: you to look after yourself first before you can help others.
- 38:05Speaker 2: So true, what did the communities say? So before we
- 38:09Speaker 2: get to what the community said. We asked them a
- 38:10Speaker 2: few questions. So we said, are you also struggling with
- 38:13Speaker 2: the rising cost of living? Sixty nine percent of you
- 38:16Speaker 2: said heck yes. Thirty one percent of you said heck
- 38:19Speaker 2: yes times too. We asked, do you give charitable donations?
- 38:24Speaker 2: Twenty nine percent of our community said yes, seventy one
- 38:26Speaker 2: percent said no. Next, we asked, if yes, have you
- 38:30Speaker 2: had to cut back on these charitable donations due to
- 38:33Speaker 2: the rising cost of living? Fifty seven percent of you
- 38:36Speaker 2: said unfortunately yes. So this isn't just you, my friend,
- 38:39Speaker 2: this is across the board. It's something that we yeah,
- 38:43Speaker 2: we see a lot. I am on the board of
- 38:45Speaker 2: TLC for Kids, which is a children's charity that is
- 38:47Speaker 2: very very close to my heart, Like I'm obsessed with them.
- 38:49Speaker 2: If you guys have seen me in person talking about it,
- 38:52Speaker 2: like in an event or something, it's so hard for
- 38:54Speaker 2: me not to cry when I like fully like go, oh,
- 38:56Speaker 2: this is what they do and this is how we
- 38:58Speaker 2: do it. This is how we're supporting them today, I'm
- 38:59Speaker 2: like I break anyway. We see it at TLC as well,
- 39:04Speaker 2: like everybody cuts back. It's no, we actually would prefer
- 39:08Speaker 2: you to put yourself first, because it means that you're
- 39:11Speaker 2: going to be healthy and well and income generating in
- 39:13Speaker 2: the future, and then we can join back up. Having
- 39:16Speaker 2: sash on a charity. We don't look at it and
- 39:18Speaker 2: be like, oh, I can't believe people aren't. We're like,
- 39:21Speaker 2: it's a tough time for everybody. End of story. But
- 39:24Speaker 2: then we ask the community, what have you had to
- 39:26Speaker 2: cut back on? This one broke me. Someone said joy
- 39:31Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, don't say that. Other people
- 39:35Speaker 2: said things that are really relatable, so ubery, it's date nights,
- 39:38Speaker 2: dining out. Someone said my car had to cut back
- 39:42Speaker 2: on that. Entertainment subscriptions. Someone said buying meat. They've said
- 39:48Speaker 2: in brackets, it's not the worst thing. I'm saving some cash,
- 39:51Speaker 2: but that's something that would have usually been in the budget.
- 39:54Speaker 2: I think smart like introducing a meat free Mondays or
- 39:57Speaker 2: something can actually save some money in the budget.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Has an on the environment too.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Yes, someone said I'm no longer treating myself to things
- 40:04Speaker 2: like my hair and my nails. They're not necessities, but
- 40:07Speaker 2: I really did enjoy them and I will get them
- 40:09Speaker 2: back one day. Someone said, definitely, no more hair and
- 40:12Speaker 2: nail appointments for me. I'm gonna have to learn to
- 40:14Speaker 2: diym idea. Why my nails and now great, thank you,
- 40:18Speaker 2: I've been practicing. I can do yours later if you want.
- 40:20Speaker 2: But I love doing my nails. It's like a little
- 40:23Speaker 2: self care practice. Got a fifty dollars kit, that's where
- 40:25Speaker 2: I started. Got it at Pricelin. She does a good job.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Someone said, Bougie, yes, but I had to cut back
- 40:30Speaker 2: on pedicures and pushing my brows from three weeks to
- 40:33Speaker 2: five weeks. Someone said, no more Pilates memberships for me.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Lots of people are saying eating out now, appointments, et cetera,
- 40:41Speaker 2: et cetera. Some other people have said, hey, I've had
- 40:44Speaker 2: to pause my health insurance for a couple of months.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Someone said they're doing without my car insurance at the moment.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Someone else said that they're skipping tapping on their my key.
- 40:53Speaker 2: We can't endorse, but can't indoors, but get it very
- 40:58Speaker 2: sounds risky, like are you going to get slapped with that?
- 41:01Speaker 2: Like is it two hundred and eighty eight dollars or
- 41:03Speaker 2: something that's wild? And then obviously lots of people are saying,
- 41:06Speaker 2: look diversity in food, I e. I'm now just shopping
- 41:09Speaker 2: for cheap staple items and trying to just keep my
- 41:12Speaker 2: belly full, which I think is honestly really relatable. And
- 41:16Speaker 2: you're not alone in that, Like there were hundreds of
- 41:18Speaker 2: people that responded to that, and I can promise if
- 41:21Speaker 2: they're not able to keep those things in their budget,
- 41:23Speaker 2: they're not donating either. Yeah, So I think it's about intent.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I think it's about caring about people and putting other
- 41:29Speaker 2: people first, but not always because you can't pour it
- 41:32Speaker 2: from an empty cup, So fill up our own cups,
- 41:35Speaker 2: make sure that we are healthy and nourished and okay,
- 41:38Speaker 2: because this too shall pass, and then we can get
- 41:41Speaker 2: back to those things that really spark a lot more joy.
- 41:44Speaker 2: And I think that that's the fairest way to approach it,
- 41:47Speaker 2: and just literally the smartest way to approach it. Like
- 41:50Speaker 2: you can't be expected to save the world on your own,
- 41:53Speaker 2: Like the weight of the world doesn't exist to be
- 41:55Speaker 2: on your shoulders, it's spread out. Yeah, totally agree. Well,
- 41:59Speaker 2: my friends, that's probably enough from us today. It has
- 42:02Speaker 2: been a pleasure. As always, don't forget who we are
- 42:04Speaker 2: Australia's number one business podcast. Thank you and we will
- 42:08Speaker 2: see you on Monday. Bright and early for money daries,
