- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another
- 0:30Speaker 2: one of our Friday Drinks episodes where we get to
- 0:33Speaker 2: celebrate the money wins and sometimes the confessions from our
- 0:36Speaker 2: She's on the Money community. As always, there are so
- 0:39Speaker 2: many great wins in our community. And a little bit later,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Ryan will run you through his favorites. But first up,
- 0:46Speaker 2: Tony Lodge, what did we do on this Week's Money Diary?
- 0:50Speaker 3: This week our Money Diarist was really has come back
- 0:54Speaker 3: from her crazy story. She found out that her husband
- 0:58Speaker 3: had been cheating on her the whole time they'd been married,
- 1:02Speaker 3: and she'd worked really hard on buying investment properties that
- 1:06Speaker 3: she then had to sell because she couldn't afford to.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Buy him out and so gross.
- 1:10Speaker 3: And now she's got three houses on her way to
- 1:13Speaker 3: buying her fourth. She's got an investment property which is
- 1:17Speaker 3: like a holiday house that makes hers seventy grand a year,
- 1:21Speaker 3: Like she's going to retire by the time she's forty,
- 1:24Speaker 3: Like it's crazy. So it was a really really great story.
- 1:27Speaker 4: I love that.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And Jessica Rici, what did we talk about on this
- 1:30Speaker 2: week's Wednesday episode.
- 1:32Speaker 5: This week we spoke about bankruptcy, which is kind of
- 1:35Speaker 5: scary sounding. I honestly did not know a whole lot
- 1:39Speaker 5: about it before we recorded this episode, and we spoke
- 1:42Speaker 5: just a lot about the potential consequences and the Whens
- 1:46Speaker 5: and the wives and the house. Obviously it's a very
- 1:48Speaker 5: personal decision. But more than anything, I suppose we also
- 1:52Speaker 5: touched on the fact that it's okay if you're going
- 1:54Speaker 5: through bankruptcy or if it's something you're considering, it's not
- 1:58Speaker 5: a reflection of you as a person. It's just and
- 2:00Speaker 5: experience that you are going through, and that is completely fine.
- 2:03Speaker 5: If that's what you have to do to put yourself
- 2:05Speaker 5: in a positive position to put your best foot forward
- 2:08Speaker 5: in the future, then that's what you need to do.
- 2:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I feel like it was a really powerful episode, and
- 2:13Speaker 2: I've actually had a number of dms since that episode
- 2:16Speaker 2: went live of people just asking me questions about that
- 2:19Speaker 2: or saying, hey, v thanks for talking about it. I've
- 2:21Speaker 2: actually been bankrupt twice, or someone saying, oh, I've done
- 2:24Speaker 2: a Part nine dead agreement. I wish i'd known what
- 2:27Speaker 2: I knew now, and I wouldn't have never ended up
- 2:30Speaker 2: in that situation, and it's so true. But I think
- 2:32Speaker 2: that we can't be harsh on ourselves because if we
- 2:35Speaker 2: are harsh on ourselves, it's to no end, Like there's
- 2:38Speaker 2: no point being upset about what has already happened, but
- 2:41Speaker 2: rather going okay, cool, I've learned from that. I'm a
- 2:43Speaker 2: better person now, I have more education and the ability
- 2:46Speaker 2: to change my life for the better, Like, let's do
- 2:49Speaker 2: that instead of being down about what we've already done.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So it was actually really nice to have those conversations
- 2:54Speaker 2: in my DMS and just knowing that we are having
- 2:56Speaker 2: an impact, especially during lockdown, like I'm not gonna lie, Tony.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I have loved having those conversations and getting a little
- 3:03Speaker 2: bit of our human contact during lockdown. But at the
- 3:06Speaker 2: same time, I know that these are such important topics
- 3:09Speaker 2: to cover, and Jess, I remember you and I were like, oh,
- 3:12Speaker 2: like are we not addressing enough or are we addressing
- 3:15Speaker 2: it too much?
- 3:16Speaker 4: Or is this too dry?
- 3:17Speaker 2: But I think these things are so important to talk about,
- 3:20Speaker 2: even if sometimes you're like okay, like I'm not bankrupt.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I don't know why I would have listened to that episode, Victoria.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It's kind of like, well, actually, you might never go bankrupt,
- 3:29Speaker 2: but I'm sure that someone in your family or your
- 3:32Speaker 2: inner circle might experience that. And how helpful is it
- 3:35Speaker 2: to have that knowledge to go, actually, hey, I know
- 3:37Speaker 2: you're going through that, but here's some hot tips, or
- 3:40Speaker 2: here's a resource, or here's what I know, so that
- 3:42Speaker 2: that person feels a bit more supported. I genuinely think that,
- 3:46Speaker 2: regardless of whether it applies to you, when it comes
- 3:49Speaker 2: to money, it's so powerful to just have as much
- 3:52Speaker 2: knowledge as possible, for sure. So with that, Ryan John,
- 3:56Speaker 2: let's lift the mood. What money wins have you got
- 3:59Speaker 2: from the community this week to share with us?
- 4:01Speaker 6: I've got a question.
- 4:02Speaker 7: V I know it's like tax return time, and we'll
- 4:04Speaker 7: get to that in a second, but is it also
- 4:07Speaker 7: it might just be a massive coincidence. Is it also
- 4:09Speaker 7: time that time of the year when people will sit
- 4:12Speaker 7: down with their boss and chat about stuff like the
- 4:14Speaker 7: new financial year? Because there seems to be a lot
- 4:16Speaker 7: of stories with like I've just sat down with my
- 4:17Speaker 7: boss for my yearly or six monthly review or something.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I've actually had a couple of my girlfriends call
- 4:22Speaker 2: me and say, hey, they just wondering because obviously that's
- 4:26Speaker 2: what my friends use me for. I'm just wondering how
- 4:29Speaker 2: would I start that conversation or last year, my bos
- 4:32Speaker 2: didn't give me enough time to talk about it and
- 4:34Speaker 2: just like breezed over it in ten minutes. But I
- 4:35Speaker 2: want to have an hour conversation and actually talk about
- 4:38Speaker 2: my performance. How do I bring that up? And I
- 4:40Speaker 2: feel like they're really abundant. I think it makes sense,
- 4:42Speaker 2: like us submitting our tax returns is kind of like
- 4:45Speaker 2: the solidification of exactly what we earned in the last
- 4:47Speaker 2: financial year, and you kind of look at it and go, oh,
- 4:50Speaker 2: maybe I should review that, or maybe I should update
- 4:53Speaker 2: or have the conversation. But I think it is you know,
- 4:56Speaker 2: I think it's quite topical.
- 4:58Speaker 7: Well, this morning, Nancy had her performance review and her
- 5:01Speaker 7: employer is giving her an extra ten percent.
- 5:06Speaker 4: That is so much money.
- 5:08Speaker 6: Well done, Nancy.
- 5:11Speaker 7: Rise guys, well you know the boss.
- 5:16Speaker 4: She's so terrible. I can't approach her.
- 5:19Speaker 6: Sarah had her chat as well.
- 5:21Speaker 7: She has just got her first full time job recently,
- 5:23Speaker 7: so she must have finished university last year. She's fresh
- 5:25Speaker 7: into the workforce, and this week was her meeting about
- 5:29Speaker 7: how she's going during probation, and she was supposed to
- 5:32Speaker 7: do a six month probation and she's only about three
- 5:35Speaker 7: months in and they said, hey, probation's over. The job
- 5:38Speaker 7: is yours. Well done. Here's a pay rise as well.
- 5:40Speaker 7: You're doing such a great job.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Well done.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Sarah so excited.
- 5:44Speaker 7: All right, Ali has what she says, a money win
- 5:46Speaker 7: and a yummy win together. So instead of throwing out
- 5:51Speaker 7: the veggie scraps last night, I added them to boiling water,
- 5:53Speaker 7: making the best veggie stock I've ever tasted, way better
- 5:56Speaker 7: than the store, and it made me feel so good
- 5:58Speaker 7: about not wasting all the food that's in my fridge
- 6:01Speaker 7: in my freezer.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Genius, what is the idea?
- 6:04Speaker 6: I saw this meme.
- 6:04Speaker 7: I don't know if I mentioned it to you guys
- 6:06Speaker 7: last week, but I saw this meme that was like,
- 6:07Speaker 7: as soon as lockdown gets extended, I've immediately become allergic
- 6:10Speaker 7: to any food it's in the fridge.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The same same, but a way to do veggie stock
- 6:16Speaker 2: more sustainably, because obviously not many of us actually eat
- 6:19Speaker 2: enough veggies in one sitting to have enough scraps to
- 6:22Speaker 2: make stock, right, is like a big ziplock bag, or
- 6:25Speaker 2: like one of those stash of silicon bags in your
- 6:27Speaker 2: freezer that you always add your veggie scraps to and
- 6:30Speaker 2: then when it's full, then you make stock because you've
- 6:33Speaker 2: been stockpiling it for a while, so stock stock styling.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But if you want to do that, you can absolutely
- 6:41Speaker 2: do it. You don't have to always be feeding a
- 6:43Speaker 2: family of twelve for the scraps.
- 6:45Speaker 6: All right. Well, Jay has a money in, she said.
- 6:47Speaker 7: In the last ten months she's been doing a traineeship,
- 6:50Speaker 7: which has been earning next to nothing, but she knows
- 6:52Speaker 7: it's an investment. She's learning new skills. It's fine. She
- 6:55Speaker 7: has just past the trainee ship. She's now been employed
- 6:57Speaker 7: by the person training her, so assive pay rise and
- 7:01Speaker 7: she now gets a car expense as part of her job.
- 7:04Speaker 7: So as well as more money, she was driving a
- 7:06Speaker 7: lot with her own car. They're like, here's the keys
- 7:08Speaker 7: to the own your own work truck. Well done, welcome
- 7:11Speaker 7: to the team. Officially love that.
- 7:13Speaker 4: How exciting for.
- 7:14Speaker 7: You, Georgia says, So hairdressers, I feel like hairdresses more
- 7:18Speaker 7: than anyone else, and probably the beauty industry in general.
- 7:21Speaker 7: When we're in lockdown, they are really stuck between a
- 7:24Speaker 7: rock and a half place because they can't do much
- 7:26Speaker 7: people can't come and see them.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Georgia, you can't.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Even pivot that well, like you know how heaps of
- 7:31Speaker 2: the restaurants and stuff are now doing takeaway food or
- 7:33Speaker 2: like the provade or boxes or whatever. I just feel
- 7:36Speaker 2: like you can't run, As you said before, what can't you.
- 7:38Speaker 6: Get take away haircut? Guys?
- 7:40Speaker 4: I just feel like you can't get a drive through,
- 7:42Speaker 4: you know.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Get a wax for the road. Thanks, guys. You know
- 7:44Speaker 6: what you can do though, So.
- 7:47Speaker 4: What can you do, Jess? Do we really want to know.
- 7:50Speaker 6: What spending your time? Mate? No?
- 7:55Speaker 5: I saw a local hairdress doing this and I thought
- 7:57Speaker 5: it was such a good idea. So if anyone is
- 7:59Speaker 5: a hair us up, they're doing take home die kids.
- 8:03Speaker 5: So for like all their clients who are blonde, for example,
- 8:05Speaker 5: they give you like a little bowl at a brush
- 8:07Speaker 5: and your custom color that you would normally get with
- 8:10Speaker 5: them pre mix, and then they give you the instructions
- 8:13Speaker 5: or a video and you can do it at.
- 8:14Speaker 7: Home all right for Friday drinks next week. We'll all
- 8:18Speaker 7: bleach your hair blond for next week.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, no, no, sounds good. It sounds good.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Do you know what?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Even if I was blonde, I don't think I could
- 8:25Speaker 2: trust myself with that at all ever, Like I would
- 8:28Speaker 2: mess it up and I would be balled, So I
- 8:32Speaker 2: would live with the regrowth.
- 8:34Speaker 6: All right.
- 8:34Speaker 7: Well, George just said that she was at a loss
- 8:36Speaker 7: of what to do with money. She was a bit
- 8:37Speaker 7: down in the dumps. But her partner is a trade,
- 8:40Speaker 7: and a trade where you don't need qualifications. I think
- 8:42Speaker 7: they do like insurance jobs where they like do repairs
- 8:44Speaker 7: and stuff like that. And she went and started working
- 8:47Speaker 7: with her partner and they're working, earning heaps of money together,
- 8:50Speaker 7: having a good time. And she's like, I'm making the
- 8:52Speaker 7: best out of a bad situation and I'm actually enjoying
- 8:54Speaker 7: hanging out with.
- 8:55Speaker 6: The boys on the work site, which is a bit
- 8:57Speaker 6: of a legend. A quick one from Sammy, she said,
- 9:01Speaker 6: money win.
- 9:02Speaker 7: After four years of paying it off, my credit card
- 9:05Speaker 7: is gone, done, dusted, chopped up, account closed, thank you
- 9:09Speaker 7: very much, a yay.
- 9:12Speaker 6: How good is that?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Imagine slogging away for four years and then be able
- 9:16Speaker 2: to celebrate with the community.
- 9:18Speaker 7: Boom, well done, Sammy. Holly is in Canberra and she said,
- 9:21Speaker 7: we're finally in lockdown. I feel included.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Nobody wants that.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Holly you know, I like cute from Canberra, my old hometown.
- 9:30Speaker 2: It's like when you're in high school and all the
- 9:32Speaker 2: cool kids we're getting braces, so I wanted braces.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Like they're not cool, they're expensive. There are money loss.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Well, Holly says money win for me.
- 9:40Speaker 7: I've been paying eleven dollars a day on parking, so
- 9:43Speaker 7: fifty five dollars a week for years, and now I'm
- 9:45Speaker 7: saving that money and it's going straight to my emergency fund.
- 9:48Speaker 6: So well done, Holly, so good. Now.
- 9:50Speaker 7: One of my favorite money wins ever, and one of
- 9:52Speaker 7: the great hacks of life I think is buying a
- 9:56Speaker 7: present for your partner that you know that you're going
- 9:58Speaker 7: to get a lot of value out of yourself.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Here, I was thinking that Ryan would say, it's the
- 10:03Speaker 2: five dollar a day pretend you're not going to drink
- 10:05Speaker 2: coffee hack?
- 10:06Speaker 6: Oh do you want me to Are you asking for
- 10:08Speaker 6: an update?
- 10:08Speaker 7: Bee?
- 10:08Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 10:08Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 10:09Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 10:09Speaker 4: How much is in your spaceship account?
- 10:11Speaker 6: So this is from five dollars a day for not
- 10:12Speaker 6: drinking coffee, which I may be.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Back onto since the new year, right.
- 10:16Speaker 7: Since the new year, I now have one thousand, six
- 10:18Speaker 7: hundred and forty five dollars in that count. So Lauren
- 10:24Speaker 7: bought her partner in Inverted Commons a coffee machine for
- 10:27Speaker 7: their kitchen.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Yeah, goodbye, Bud, she says. I swear he wanted it.
- 10:34Speaker 6: I swear, she said to the comments.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Now, instead of paying five dollars fifty for a bought
- 10:39Speaker 7: coffee every day, I'm on the pods. It's so much cheaper.
- 10:41Speaker 7: I make it at home. It tastes just as great,
- 10:43Speaker 7: and she's saving a heap of money. So well done, Lauren.
- 10:45Speaker 7: Kate says, my husband buys a six pack of musley
- 10:49Speaker 7: bars every week to take to work and leave in
- 10:51Speaker 7: the work car.
- 10:51Speaker 6: But this week his six pack had seven musley bars.
- 10:55Speaker 7: Well, and she's like, he's bloody stoked as well, says
- 11:01Speaker 7: Kate of her husband.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Well, wouldn't you be. It's free food. Everybody loves free
- 11:05Speaker 4: food absolutely.
- 11:06Speaker 7: And finally, Sarah said, at the yogat place called you
- 11:10Speaker 7: get it so good?
- 11:12Speaker 5: I think, I know what are they yoga bar? It's yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 5: it's frozen yogurt, but I don't want to say it
- 11:18Speaker 5: because it's very yoga.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I think her winner is.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Like a shop, but like for frozen yogurt and stuff
- 11:24Speaker 6: like that.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So frozen yoga here, I am thinking you just got
- 11:27Speaker 2: like tubs of trobamie or something.
- 11:30Speaker 6: I mean, they've probably got that cool nice.
- 11:33Speaker 7: They've got a competition at the moment called Yo, guess
- 11:36Speaker 7: it you get it And Sarah correctly guess the weight
- 11:39Speaker 7: of her frozen yogurt and got it for free.
- 11:42Speaker 5: That's an amazing I think they have that most of
- 11:45Speaker 5: the time, or at least they used to when there
- 11:46Speaker 5: was one near my work.
- 11:47Speaker 4: And it's so good.
- 11:48Speaker 5: And if you get a really kind person behind the
- 11:51Speaker 5: bar when you're trying to guess, they'll kind of you'll
- 11:54Speaker 5: be like, oh, like, I think it's maybe like four
- 11:57Speaker 5: hundred grams and.
- 11:58Speaker 4: They'll be like, oh, like, do you really You in
- 12:04Speaker 4: the right direction?
- 12:05Speaker 6: All right?
- 12:06Speaker 7: And the final money win is hasn't happened yet. It
- 12:10Speaker 7: is a future money win.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Some claim future money wins.
- 12:14Speaker 7: Can you when you find out what it is?
- 12:18Speaker 2: You actually no, I did know about this. This is
- 12:20Speaker 2: absolutely a future money win.
- 12:21Speaker 7: Sorry, Ryan, someone from our group is gonna win and
- 12:25Speaker 7: I robot Rumba, which is incredibly awesome. Now I believe
- 12:29Speaker 7: as well as someone from the group gonna win one
- 12:31Speaker 7: of these, we actually have one in the office. Jess
- 12:34Speaker 7: and Ve won't shut up about it, so.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Please literally Jeeves. I gave mine a name.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And anyway, Jess and I were talking to the people
- 12:42Speaker 2: from I Robot and they sent me in I Robot
- 12:45Speaker 2: rumba I seven plus for my house so that it
- 12:48Speaker 2: could clean up after Lucy. Because I cannot tell you,
- 12:51Speaker 2: I had two cats. So I was always like, you
- 12:53Speaker 2: know what, it's not actually that bad having pets in
- 12:56Speaker 2: the house, Like what do people mean when they're complaining
- 12:59Speaker 2: about like pet furd being everywhere. I now have a
- 13:01Speaker 2: dog who doesn't drop any fur, yet my house is
- 13:04Speaker 2: full of debris always, like I do not understand. I
- 13:07Speaker 2: feel like she just goes outside, picks up piles of
- 13:11Speaker 2: dirt and then just throws it around my house.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I'm convinced when I have a boyfriend who's exactly the same.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Exactly anyway, so I got sent the I seventh plus.
- 13:20Speaker 4: So this bougie little I.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Robot that has its own docking station, and it like
- 13:24Speaker 2: even empties itself, Like Ryan, I cannot even this thing
- 13:27Speaker 2: empties itself and I just have to put it in
- 13:29Speaker 2: the bin. Anyway, Lucy loves it. My cat has stood
- 13:33Speaker 2: on it. I put that on my Instagram. He's trying
- 13:35Speaker 2: to do that thing where he rides the roomb around.
- 13:37Speaker 6: That when you mean trying to catch a lyft to
- 13:40Speaker 6: the bathroom.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Because we're trying to catch a lyft on it.
- 13:43Speaker 2: And we also got one for the office, which we
- 13:46Speaker 2: have had fun, you know, just testing it and when I.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Test it, sending drinks to people.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you can put drinks on top of it and
- 13:53Speaker 2: it goes to your friend. I'm not saying that that's it.
- 13:55Speaker 2: It does a really good job of vacuuming because Jess
- 13:58Speaker 2: and I really like to eat chips at our desk
- 14:00Speaker 2: and those are really crumbly is not the point, but
- 14:03Speaker 2: really crumbly. But we also tested it out by hiding
- 14:06Speaker 2: bits of paper around the office and then seeing if
- 14:08Speaker 2: it actually got it.
- 14:09Speaker 4: And it did.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Yeah, So obviously Victoria, as always has gone for the bootiest,
- 14:13Speaker 5: fanciest thing.
- 14:14Speaker 2: However, love me, I didn't have any choice by choice.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I mean, I asked for that one.
- 14:18Speaker 5: But if you don't need the boogiest one like Victoria does,
- 14:21Speaker 5: there are a whole range of models that do very
- 14:23Speaker 5: similar things. In the office, We've got the I three
- 14:26Speaker 5: plus and that empties itself. I think it's just such
- 14:29Speaker 5: a time saving thing. It's obviously I'm saving you guys.
- 14:32Speaker 5: It's not saving time if you're setting up competitions for
- 14:34Speaker 5: yourself to see.
- 14:35Speaker 6: It in the office.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Okay, excited about it anyway.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I named the one that I have at home Jeeves,
- 14:42Speaker 2: because obviously Jeeves the butler makes sense. And I've set
- 14:46Speaker 2: it up and Jeeves goes around the house and cleans
- 14:49Speaker 2: the house so I don't have to. So that's time saving.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Is it not, Ryan?
- 14:52Speaker 6: Yeah, that sounds good.
- 14:53Speaker 5: It's really great because obviously it is a luxury product.
- 14:56Speaker 5: But I think there's something to be said for when
- 14:58Speaker 5: you think about these purchases and we s people talk
- 15:00Speaker 5: about a lot in the group where they're like, oh,
- 15:01Speaker 5: I've been saving so hard, but I don't want to
- 15:03Speaker 5: part with money, or you know, I want to purchase design,
- 15:06Speaker 5: but I'm not sure. For us, this is very much
- 15:09Speaker 5: like alleviating a mental load. And so when you have
- 15:13Speaker 5: so many people in the office, especially or even as
- 15:16Speaker 5: you were saying, the at home, when you have pets
- 15:17Speaker 5: running around to people when it's not COVID lockdown, things
- 15:20Speaker 5: build up. And I'm the kind of person where mess
- 15:24Speaker 5: really stresses me out. Our office does more often than
- 15:27Speaker 5: not become a bit of a bomb site and being able.
- 15:30Speaker 5: We are very tidy, don't attack Tony and we do
- 15:34Speaker 5: our vest but like being able to use some of
- 15:36Speaker 5: the functionalities, so like with the room, but you can
- 15:38Speaker 5: set it to clean at the same time every week,
- 15:41Speaker 5: so like we have our set to go around twice
- 15:43Speaker 5: a week on the same day, and it just really
- 15:46Speaker 5: makes a big difference knowing that that's one less thing
- 15:48Speaker 5: that you have to think about. And I think that
- 15:49Speaker 5: if it's taking that mental load off of you and
- 15:53Speaker 5: making you feel better, it is worth the investment to
- 15:56Speaker 5: me personally. And I'm so excited because we get to
- 16:00Speaker 5: take that mental load off of somebody else. We have
- 16:02Speaker 5: one of the I seven Pluses to give away the fanciest, bougiest,
- 16:07Speaker 5: most insane robot backing could ever think of. It empties itself.
- 16:10Speaker 2: You don't have to literally empties itself. You just have
- 16:13Speaker 2: to put the rubbish in the bin. I cannot even.
- 16:16Speaker 5: So we have a post up on our Instagram. If
- 16:18Speaker 5: you would like to win, definitely go and check that
- 16:20Speaker 5: out because you guys, it changed my life.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Literally, you can't win the robot. I'm so sorry. Oh
- 16:28Speaker 4: I wish I could a load. I wish that I
- 16:30Speaker 4: could give everybody a rebace.
- 16:31Speaker 5: I could give every person in this world a rumor.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I absolutely would.
- 16:34Speaker 6: Oh that's nice, Jess.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Well we'll have a chat with my robot about getting
- 16:43Speaker 2: new one, but not entering you in the competition, because
- 16:46Speaker 2: that would be grossly unfair.
- 16:48Speaker 6: Yeah, that's fair.
- 16:49Speaker 8: Okay, imagine Tony won the room.
- 17:00Speaker 6: All right.
- 17:01Speaker 7: So I mentioned before it's tax return season. Lots of
- 17:03Speaker 7: people are coming into a little bit of cash. Ole,
- 17:06Speaker 7: I've got a money win to share, and it's a
- 17:07Speaker 7: bit of a brag. It's not like a Q one,
- 17:09Speaker 7: it's legit.
- 17:09Speaker 6: All right.
- 17:10Speaker 4: What's your money in.
- 17:11Speaker 6: My tax return? Three? Two hundred dollars?
- 17:15Speaker 4: So much money's Richie mcreach.
- 17:17Speaker 7: I think because I started a new job midyear, and
- 17:20Speaker 7: I started at like this is my second job rate,
- 17:22Speaker 7: So I started at the higher bread. You know that
- 17:23Speaker 7: I was paying a bit too much for that sort
- 17:25Speaker 7: of thing, thank you summer breakfast with Kiss.
- 17:28Speaker 6: So I got a little bit back.
- 17:30Speaker 7: But I know a lot of people via coming into
- 17:33Speaker 7: a couple of thousand bucks, a five hundred bucks maybe
- 17:35Speaker 7: money they weren't planning on, and a pleasantly surprised. So
- 17:38Speaker 7: I guess my question is when we come into you know,
- 17:42Speaker 7: a couple of thousand dollars, it's significant, but it's not
- 17:45Speaker 7: a go and buy a boat or a house type
- 17:47Speaker 7: of money.
- 17:47Speaker 2: But so many of us want to go buy boats
- 17:50Speaker 2: in houses and expensive designer purses and things that we
- 17:53Speaker 2: definitely wouldn't justify at any other point in the year
- 17:55Speaker 2: because we somehow think that our tax return is free money.
- 18:00Speaker 7: Well that I always get weird with this because I think, oh,
- 18:03Speaker 7: I've paid too much earlier. It's just they're giving me
- 18:05Speaker 7: money back, and I'm an idiot. But I mean, how
- 18:07Speaker 7: you see your tax returns?
- 18:08Speaker 2: Up to you your tax return. I feel like we're
- 18:11Speaker 2: going to have a different point of view from this
- 18:13Speaker 2: side of the table. Jess, what do you do with
- 18:15Speaker 2: your tax return? Usually mine went straight to my house
- 18:18Speaker 2: deposit fund. Okay, she's smart to do your taxt Tony,
- 18:24Speaker 2: what are you doing with your tax returns?
- 18:27Speaker 3: So this year it is planned to go straight onto
- 18:30Speaker 3: paying off the last of our credit card debt.
- 18:32Speaker 4: I haven't got.
- 18:33Speaker 3: I don't know, so that is actually very responsible. But
- 18:36Speaker 3: normally I har it. I go all right, I'm going
- 18:38Speaker 3: to have half fun and half adults.
- 18:42Speaker 2: But that's not free money, Like, that's your money that
- 18:45Speaker 2: you've overpaid and then you get it back.
- 18:47Speaker 4: It's literally your savings.
- 18:49Speaker 2: It actually baffles me how many people are like, oh yeah,
- 18:52Speaker 2: like I always buy a designer bag with.
- 18:54Speaker 7: Aggressive language, Victoria Devine, I am being aggressive because.
- 18:58Speaker 2: You have such an opportunity to child your wealth or
- 19:00Speaker 2: your debt repayments or create something that you didn't have before.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And I'm so sick of this. You know, maybe I'm
- 19:07Speaker 2: being a bit ranty today, but I'm so sick of
- 19:10Speaker 2: this treat yourself mentality. And you've worked so hard for
- 19:13Speaker 2: twelve months and then you're given this opportunity Ryan, Like,
- 19:16Speaker 2: you've got an extra three two hundred dollars and I
- 19:19Speaker 2: know you're going to be responsible for it. And I
- 19:21Speaker 2: hope that that's because you work with She's on the money, Like,
- 19:24Speaker 2: I just hope that that's us, Like.
- 19:25Speaker 4: It's Tony, It's just it's eye.
- 19:27Speaker 2: We've just had such a good impact on you that
- 19:29Speaker 2: you're going to be a responsible human this year. But
- 19:32Speaker 2: so many people see it and they're like, oh my gosh,
- 19:34Speaker 2: three two hundred dollars to treat myself instead of setting
- 19:37Speaker 2: themselves up for the future. And so many people are
- 19:40Speaker 2: doing this even though they don't have an emergency fund,
- 19:42Speaker 2: or maybe they still have some money on a credit card,
- 19:44Speaker 2: and it's kind of like the opportunity to give yourself
- 19:47Speaker 2: or future you a leg up. And so I think
- 19:50Speaker 2: Tony your genius using your tax recievement.
- 19:53Speaker 6: You very much.
- 19:54Speaker 4: You're welcome.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I'm opposed to child for financial responsibility.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So sexy, I really like it. We're going to see
- 20:03Speaker 2: that on tram stops all around the city soon. Guys,
- 20:05Speaker 2: why is Tony the post a child for financial responsibility?
- 20:08Speaker 4: And I'm a loser because I decided was responsible Jess.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Like, Jess is so good with money, so good with savings,
- 20:20Speaker 2: and we all kind of look at her with envy,
- 20:22Speaker 2: like she's just a little money wizard.
- 20:24Speaker 4: So, no, you're not cool, Jess. I'm sorry. I'm okay
- 20:27Speaker 4: with that.
- 20:27Speaker 2: No, you absolutely are. But Tony, I agree with you.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Paying off debt is so important and data from the ABS,
- 20:34Speaker 2: so the Australian Bureau of Statistics actually tells us that
- 20:37Speaker 2: a really large percentage of Australian households.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Currently have some form of debt.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So I think it would be quite smart to put
- 20:44Speaker 2: yourself in a situation where you could smash some of
- 20:46Speaker 2: that down or put yourself in a more preferable position.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And then if you don't have any debt, because as
- 20:52Speaker 2: you guys know, paying off debt is an investment in itself,
- 20:56Speaker 2: we should be prioritizing that over saving. But the next
- 21:00Speaker 2: one would be saving. If you don't already have an
- 21:03Speaker 2: emergency fund, I would be working on that. If you've
- 21:06Speaker 2: already got an emergency fund, saving for something in the
- 21:08Speaker 2: future and putting it away for a rainy day or
- 21:11Speaker 2: even just fluffing up your emergency account is amazing because
- 21:14Speaker 2: you never know when you're going to need it, especially
- 21:16Speaker 2: during and I hate this word unprecedented times, but it's
- 21:21Speaker 2: so true right other people. And this is kind of
- 21:24Speaker 2: like a double money when are you ready? So some
- 21:27Speaker 2: people from our community are kind of doing a double
- 21:29Speaker 2: money win. They're getting their tax back and putting it
- 21:32Speaker 2: into their supranuation as a voluntary contribution, which wait, you
- 21:39Speaker 2: can claim on your tax return next year.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Oh my god, Jane.
- 21:42Speaker 3: It's like the best kind of cycle.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Money cycle. Anyway.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I feel like this is important to understand because, as
- 21:51Speaker 2: we've spoken about before, it's actually super easy to do
- 21:53Speaker 2: voluntary contributions into your supranuation fund. You can usually be
- 21:57Speaker 2: pay them or just transfer them via bank transfer.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I feel like.
- 22:00Speaker 2: People think that transferring money to your super is much
- 22:03Speaker 2: harder than it actually is. It's literally like paying a
- 22:06Speaker 2: bill online. So that could be something that you consider. Obviously,
- 22:11Speaker 2: this is she's on the money and I'm obsessed with investing,
- 22:15Speaker 2: So you could start your investing journey or look at ETFs,
- 22:18Speaker 2: or you could buy some shares or dabble with our
- 22:21Speaker 2: friends at shares. EA's like, it's one of those things
- 22:24Speaker 2: where you've got this opportunity to start creating wealth. And
- 22:27Speaker 2: you know, if you haven't had money before that you've
- 22:29Speaker 2: been comfortable to allocate towards investing, maybe now is the
- 22:33Speaker 2: time to dip your toes in the water, or Tony,
- 22:35Speaker 2: I think we also need to give permission to people
- 22:38Speaker 2: to treat themselves a little bit as well. After all
- 22:41Speaker 2: that we've been through, it has been a really hard year.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So I wouldn't say no to people allocating a small
- 22:46Speaker 2: amount of that some online shopping or a nice takeaway
- 22:50Speaker 2: dinner or something so that they can actually enjoy life
- 22:53Speaker 2: as well. So I'm not saying, don't ever treat yourself,
- 22:56Speaker 2: but like, let's prioritize wealth creation, let's prioritize looking after
- 23:00Speaker 2: future us. But also let's not forget about the journey
- 23:03Speaker 2: that we're on now and actually enjoy what we're going
- 23:05Speaker 2: through at the same time, because as always, it is
- 23:08Speaker 2: not about the destination.
- 23:09Speaker 4: It is about the journey. Thank you Miley.
- 23:12Speaker 6: Todays time, it's about the club.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Someone could sing that that would be great. It's the club. Okay,
- 23:20Speaker 4: I didn't mean.
- 23:20Speaker 2: That literally, but sorry, that was really nice. But that
- 23:23Speaker 2: is where I'm going to wrap my tax return round
- 23:25Speaker 2: because I think that you guys are probably sick of
- 23:27Speaker 2: hearing it. So wrapping that up, let's move on to
- 23:30Speaker 2: one of my favorite topics of this month, and that
- 23:32Speaker 2: is accountability.
- 23:33Speaker 4: August.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Let's do a quick round table and check in with everybody.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Ryan John, how are you going?
- 23:40Speaker 7: I was hoping you would not go with me. First,
- 23:43Speaker 7: you looked maybe forget about it. My accountability August challenge
- 23:47Speaker 7: was no Uber eats for a whole month of my life.
- 23:50Speaker 7: I feel like within six hours of that comment being made,
- 23:56Speaker 7: we were plunged into lockdown. And as we've said many
- 24:00Speaker 7: times before, we obviously go into lockdown and become allergic
- 24:04Speaker 7: to any food that's in our fridge or freezer and
- 24:07Speaker 7: just want to So it's a.
- 24:09Speaker 4: Serious health condition.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Apologies.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Yeah, like you can see a doctor about that, and
- 24:16Speaker 2: they can diagnose you with fridgelitis when you're allergic to
- 24:20Speaker 2: every time.
- 24:21Speaker 7: I mentioned this conundrum to my dad the other day
- 24:24Speaker 7: and my dad said, oh, have you been in lockdown
- 24:26Speaker 7: for the last five years?
- 24:27Speaker 4: Then, as a forward thinker, you've been playing.
- 24:33Speaker 6: Thank you, Rodney.
- 24:34Speaker 7: But this is like the lamest thing. I haven't actually
- 24:38Speaker 7: ordered Uber Eats. I've used every other app. I've called
- 24:41Speaker 7: the store directly, I've used Bridget's phone. I've like stubbornly
- 24:45Speaker 7: been like, well, I've got a challenge on I need
- 24:47Speaker 7: to use your Yeah. No, it's the biggest cough out.
- 24:49Speaker 7: But and I'm not trying to say that I'm winning
- 24:51Speaker 7: or doing well, but I just wanted to be noted
- 24:53Speaker 7: that I had deleted my app and actually haven't used
- 24:56Speaker 7: it since. But I'm still definitely having takeaway three times,
- 25:00Speaker 7: so that's probably a D minus.
- 25:02Speaker 6: See.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I was about to say, well, have you at least
- 25:04Speaker 3: been a bit more mindful about it?
- 25:06Speaker 7: But last week I was mindful, and then when the
- 25:11Speaker 7: extension of the lockdown happened, I was just like, nah,
- 25:14Speaker 7: paul a chicken burger in me.
- 25:16Speaker 6: I am done. So that's me. So anyway, Jess, have
- 25:19Speaker 6: you got something better than my results?
- 25:21Speaker 5: I actually don't.
- 25:24Speaker 4: She's going to be like, I'm an angel, I'm so
- 25:26Speaker 4: good at saving. Look how much money I made, you
- 25:29Speaker 4: guys in your faces.
- 25:30Speaker 5: I really peaked last week because I remember I said
- 25:34Speaker 5: I made a lot of money for everyone playing at home.
- 25:36Speaker 5: I'm reselling things I have in my house. Obviously can't
- 25:39Speaker 5: use Marketplace because of lockdown, but I've been using deep
- 25:41Speaker 5: Hop to sell like clothes and unused baby products and
- 25:44Speaker 5: stuff like that. And last week I really peaked and
- 25:46Speaker 5: I had almost achieved my goal. This week I have
- 25:49Speaker 5: not sold a single item, which is really sad.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Just the week is not over. We still have the weekend.
- 25:56Speaker 7: You're within thirty or forty dollars of the target for
- 25:59Speaker 7: the month.
- 25:59Speaker 6: I was still really track.
- 26:01Speaker 5: I'm doing Yeah, I'm still on track, but it was
- 26:03Speaker 5: really sad. I even like put up a little thing
- 26:05Speaker 5: on the weekend, being like, oh, if you spend over.
- 26:07Speaker 5: I think it was fifty dollars I'll ship your item
- 26:09Speaker 5: for free, like someone's.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Literally Jess is on sale, girl, Jess, would it make
- 26:19Speaker 3: you feel better if maybe all the people that are
- 26:21Speaker 3: in your community are from she's on the money and
- 26:24Speaker 3: they're all doing no spend.
- 26:27Speaker 1: You can't sell anything.
- 26:31Speaker 5: A couple of beautiful girls are from the community, and
- 26:34Speaker 5: I have bought for me, Like, oh my gosh, Like
- 26:35Speaker 5: I'm so excited. I'm getting such a good deal at
- 26:37Speaker 5: the money in for me. But that doesn't like, can
- 26:39Speaker 5: we feel a bit better?
- 26:41Speaker 6: That's so great.
- 26:42Speaker 7: That's almost as good as the fact that Tony just
- 26:44Speaker 7: snort laughed at her own joke that.
- 26:47Speaker 4: Gets edited out. Guys, I'm not having it. We all
- 26:49Speaker 4: know that's I feel like I'm the one that usually
- 26:55Speaker 4: snort laughs as well. So you're welcome, thank you, but
- 26:58Speaker 4: not at your own job.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Gear very impressive, all right, So Jess is coming down
- 27:04Speaker 7: to the going to come down to the wire on sales, Tony,
- 27:07Speaker 7: where are you at?
- 27:08Speaker 6: So?
- 27:09Speaker 3: I don't know if anybody saw my post in the group,
- 27:12Speaker 3: but I'm doing very very well. My accountability August challenge
- 27:15Speaker 3: was to do a no spend month, so no discretionary
- 27:19Speaker 3: spending outside of like rent and bills and anything that
- 27:21Speaker 3: legally I have.
- 27:22Speaker 2: To pay, so we won't be buying beauty products from
- 27:25Speaker 2: Jess's deepop.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Unfortunately I'm missing out of the deal of a life
- 27:29Speaker 3: shop on jess depot. But I did order some emergency
- 27:37Speaker 3: grilled on the weekend.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Eurgency grilled.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Yes, we would, and I'll say it again, we're in
- 27:46Speaker 5: a lockdown.
- 27:46Speaker 4: It absolutely was an emergency thank you.
- 27:50Speaker 3: So yeah, so a bit of takeaway, which I feel
- 27:54Speaker 3: like is a lot.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Better than we would normally be doing.
- 27:57Speaker 3: We'd probably definitely be tucking into the old Uber eats
- 28:00Speaker 3: during lockdown to try and give us that serotonin boost.
- 28:04Speaker 3: But we I haven't really been doing any shopping, and
- 28:06Speaker 3: like I said, I've been just staying offline basically and
- 28:11Speaker 3: not looking at things to buy because that's when I
- 28:13Speaker 3: just add to cart and I go, oh, that's only
- 28:14Speaker 3: fifty dollars off. Well that's only twenty dollars, so I think, yeah,
- 28:18Speaker 3: And I've just been so much more mindful. It's like
- 28:20Speaker 3: fully changed my mindset around just buying stuff.
- 28:25Speaker 4: You're doing such a good job, Tony.
- 28:27Speaker 5: I'm so glad.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you as the only team member
- 28:31Speaker 2: who's doing really well, it's good.
- 28:32Speaker 3: No, jess is definitely doing better than me. I think
- 28:35Speaker 3: it's not a competition. We're all just doing.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Oh, my most competitive person in our team.
- 28:43Speaker 2: You cannot stay with a straight pace that it is
- 28:46Speaker 2: not a competition because you came here to win, Jessica, can.
- 28:49Speaker 6: You play.
- 28:52Speaker 4: The how are you going? Once again? Check your lunch
- 28:55Speaker 4: into well? Right right right? So the loophole ever, Yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 4: like I.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Win, guys, but also really dismal this week, if I'm honest.
- 29:06Speaker 4: So we went into.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Lockdown and I kind of pivoted what taking lunch to
- 29:10Speaker 2: work meant and that changed to no takeaway for lunch
- 29:14Speaker 2: and no ordering, no breets, and like I've been doing
- 29:17Speaker 2: a bit of door dash and stuff like that. So
- 29:19Speaker 2: I'm hidding a bit desperado last week. And I actually
- 29:23Speaker 2: had cereal for lunch two days because I couldn't work
- 29:26Speaker 2: out what to have from the fridge. So I literally
- 29:29Speaker 2: ate corn flakes and oat milk, which is obviously.
- 29:33Speaker 7: Someone who can't have wheat, carbs or dairy how to
- 29:36Speaker 7: cereal go?
- 29:38Speaker 2: I love the Carmen's gluten free musically, and I also
- 29:41Speaker 2: adore the gluten free corn flakes, which I then put
- 29:45Speaker 2: sugar on top of because health first, and also lack
- 29:48Speaker 2: lots of fruits and berries usually, but this was literally
- 29:50Speaker 2: just corn flakes and oat milk because I was like
- 29:53Speaker 2: a study of it, really and I don't eat noodles
- 29:57Speaker 2: or anything like that, so it was really hard. But
- 30:00Speaker 2: yesterday I lapsed. I think I was just done, Like
- 30:02Speaker 2: I'm done with lockdown. I'm just over it in the
- 30:05Speaker 2: same way that I think so many people are. So
- 30:07Speaker 2: I ordered some tie takeaway noodles online.
- 30:11Speaker 4: Good job.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Look, I'm technically I'm still talking lunch to work, so yeah,
- 30:16Speaker 2: technically I did. But yeah, I mean I think I've
- 30:21Speaker 2: been doing well because old Victoria would never have had
- 30:24Speaker 2: cereal for lunch. She would have absolutely gone out and
- 30:27Speaker 2: gotten something. But I was like, no, I'm really committed
- 30:30Speaker 2: to this, like what's not home that I can eat.
- 30:32Speaker 2: That's also, you know, while you're working, especially at home.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I don't think I've been nearly as planned as I
- 30:36Speaker 2: would have been if I was in the office to
- 30:38Speaker 2: take my lunches to work. So I just feel like
- 30:42Speaker 2: Cereal was a good option, Like Cereal's a real lunch food, right.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I think so.
- 30:47Speaker 3: But if there's anybody listening that maybe needs a little
- 30:50Speaker 3: bit of inspo around us, some food that you can
- 30:53Speaker 3: make and some budget friendly little recipes. We've got a
- 30:57Speaker 3: bonus episode coming out tomorrow which is absolutely going to love,
- 31:00Speaker 3: which has got, you know, a special little treat coming down,
- 31:04Speaker 3: maybe a little downloadable for all of our.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Friends out there, and if you're on it, I actually
- 31:10Speaker 2: already put it on the website with the Jess. So
- 31:12Speaker 2: it's called good Food, Good Mood, and we collabed with
- 31:15Speaker 2: our friends at my Millennial Health to write it. But
- 31:18Speaker 2: it's not only good Food, Good Mood, it's all budget friendly.
- 31:21Speaker 2: So I'm really excited about it, and they did a
- 31:23Speaker 2: really good job, and we're super generous by putting it
- 31:26Speaker 2: together for us because as you know, hear it, she's
- 31:29Speaker 2: on the money. Jess and I literally love cooking, but
- 31:32Speaker 2: when we are left for our own devices, I literally
- 31:34Speaker 2: set the kitchen on fire. Like that's the nearest documentary
- 31:38Speaker 2: video proof. Yeah, it is on my Instagram for those
- 31:41Speaker 2: of you who are interested. So we actually need the
- 31:44Speaker 2: professionals like my Millennial Health to come in and tell
- 31:46Speaker 2: us what to make, and a lot of it doesn't
- 31:49Speaker 2: actually involve a gas burner, so that's pretty good.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So if you are a bit strapped for ideas for
- 31:55Speaker 3: lunches and for snacks and all of that kind of thing,
- 31:58Speaker 3: then that's going to be perfect for you. And to
- 32:00Speaker 3: our episode that's coming out tomorrow with Jess spen Love,
- 32:04Speaker 3: she kind of talks about how you can eat good
- 32:06Speaker 3: food to make your mood better, and how you can
- 32:09Speaker 3: eat certain things that are going to make you feel
- 32:11Speaker 3: better and not so crappy like when we know we've
- 32:14Speaker 3: eaten too much Uber Eats and we go, oh, I
- 32:16Speaker 3: feel a bit crap about myself.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And she gave some really good lunch ideas on
- 32:20Speaker 2: that episode, and I absolutely did not admit to her
- 32:23Speaker 2: that I'd been eating cereal for lunch because I was like, oh, no,
- 32:25Speaker 2: I'm a god at eating good food.
- 32:28Speaker 4: I'm so smart.
- 32:30Speaker 2: And then yeah, I pretended like I was already doing
- 32:32Speaker 2: all the things that she said.
- 32:33Speaker 4: Were good to do. Yeah, was good.
- 32:36Speaker 2: But on that note, Tony, just before we head off,
- 32:38Speaker 2: we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal
- 32:41Speaker 2: and torrest Rate Island. To people's they're the traditional custodians
- 32:45Speaker 2: of the lands, the waterways and the skies all across Australia.
- 32:49Speaker 2: We thank you for sharing and for caring for the
- 32:51Speaker 2: land on which we are able to learn with pair
- 32:53Speaker 2: respects to elders past and present, and we share our
- 32:56Speaker 2: friendship and our kindness.
