- 0:51SPEAKER_00: and how chasing perfection through technology can lead to fantasy
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: and reality colliding.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: My virtual obsession out now.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Hey everybody,
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: it's Catherine Crestani with another episode of Willow Healing Matters
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: and today I have a returning guest, Kelly Sayward.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: So for those of you who don't know her,
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: she is through the power of breath,
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: mindfulness and self-love, Kelly helps others find a place inside too.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Through spending a long time lost in anxiety cycles,
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Kelly knows how difficult it can be to lose confidence and yourself.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Searching for answers in all the wrong places.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: If you are feeling lost, stressed or unloved, it's not forever.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: And through small changes, we can create the shift's desire to feel connected once more.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: And Kelly is rejoining us because her new book has just come out.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Welcome, Kelly.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Thank you for having me again, Catherine.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: It's a pleasure to be here.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: So tell us a bit about your book.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: What is your new book about?
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: So my new book, I've got a copy here.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: So it's called Can You Hear Me?
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: And it's an emotional dictionary where feelings find their voice.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: So since we last spoke about my first book,
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: which was Desperate to be Loved, that was more rooted in my journey of anxiety.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: And in my own work and development and just speaking to different people through
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: the things that I do,
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: I've really noticed the blocker is
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: when people just don't understand emotionally what's going on.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: And particularly with children, we have a real...
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: Challenge,
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: it seems,
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: to actually articulate what we feel and to be able to name it or know where that is
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: in our body.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: So it's a real simple invitation to connect with the emotions.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: So it's an emotional dictionary where feelings find their voice.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: That's a kind of subline.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: And I've explored it over 52 weeks.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: So it's like journal style, two words for each letter.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: And just to tap in, To what you may or may not be feeling.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: And it might not resonate or there might be resistance, but that's okay.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: It's just exploring 52 words, essentially.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: And I've been doing a lot of, you know, what do I need to hit today?
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: Like a card deck and seeing what word I have.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: Yes, it's an article.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: And yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I'm quite proud of it.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm very proud of it.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: I need to stop it.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm very proud of it.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: It took a lot out of me at the beginning of the year.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: But yeah, an emotional dictionary.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: That's what it's about.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: The emotional dictionary that took the energy out of you.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly that.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: But I love that you touched upon too how important it is for children
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: because this is something I talk about that we've often been brought up
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: in generations where we don't talk about emotions or you're not allowed
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: to feel certain emotions or don't show your anger or only girls cry
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: and all those sorts of things.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: But we need to go back to teaching our children to It's okay to feel emotions and
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: when you can actually give them a word for it,
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: helps them understand what's happening in their body when they're feeling that.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: A hundred percent because if the broader our language,
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: the better we understand and then the more connected we are and color is such
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: a powerful thing for that I find with children.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Often they can articulate a color that they might be feeling and us as adults
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: as well can really tap into what Colour we may or may not need and where
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: that might lead us.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: You know,
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: it's just an exploration above the base level that we feel this box we need to stay
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: in to feel safe.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: We need to be able to safely explore outside of it, I feel.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And I like, I like the color concept too, because, and even I learned this trick.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know who taught it to me.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Like I can't do it.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: But when I was working a lot with children and they come in and they just be like,
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: not themselves.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: And, you know,
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: straight away when you've been working with kids for a while,
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: or if they're just Give you the flat effect, especially the younger they are.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh, there's something bigger going here.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: So all I would do would draw four faces and I'd have one smiley face,
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: one with two smiley faces, one with a sad face, and then two sad faces.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: And I'd just hold it in front of them and then, how are you feeling today?
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: And then they would just look at the like double sad face or what are the sad faces?
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, you're really sad today.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, that must feel really crap.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: And they're like, it does.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And that's enough because the feeling has been acknowledged.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Not that that is them,
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: but the feeling what is going on in their body is enough for them to get
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: that feedback.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, definitely.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: And being able to articulate that feeling and where you locate it
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: in your body is I mean, somatically, people are really beginning to understand now.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: There's that brilliant book, isn't there?
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: The Body Knows the Score.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: And I think our bodies do know.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: They know before we do.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: You know,
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: we might have aches and pains weeks and weeks before anything kind
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: of slows us down properly.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: And if we really begin listening to those parts or understanding those feelings
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: and just changing the dialogue, you know, I think I'm or I feel I'm.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: Or even the whole dialogue with anxiety is, you know, I am anxious.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: Well, no, I am Kelly.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: But I am feeling, you know, anxiety today.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: It's different.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: It takes you out of the head and into the body and you can separate.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: And I think for people to have an understanding of that alone,
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: it really, really can be life-changing.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: Well, it has been for me, that's for sure.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: I learned from someone maybe last month or the month before,
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: like when you feel emotionally charged around something about yourself,
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: so it might be your anxiety or it might be your doubt or it might be your hatred
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: for somebody, it's like I love the part of me that...
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: I love the part of me that is hating that person.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: And what it does is it takes the emotional charge out of it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Like you said,
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: instead of saying,
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: I am anxious, I love the part of me that's feeling anxious right now.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: And then it doesn't feel as heavy because it's like, oh, it doesn't matter.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: That's just part of me.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I love it anyway.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: It does matter, but you know what I mean.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that dialogue is really important, isn't it?
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: Because I do write a little bit in the book about welcoming.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: That's the word I keep using now in meditation groups and things that I lead.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: And I even open that book with Meet Yourself Exactly Where You Are.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: Because I think the more I'm learning,
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: the less I'm needing to say and do,
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: which is really,
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: really interesting because we're so used to like do more,
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: do more,
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: do more,
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: get to here,
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: get to here that I'm It's unraveling and it's with things like that welcoming
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: because when we push it away and that's a really lovely way to say it.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: I love the part of me that's struggling right now.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: I love the part of me that's tired.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: You know, those kind of things.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: The part of me that's pissed off at my husband for leaving those dishes in the sink.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: I love that part.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: It does change even the feelings that you feel in your body
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: because there's some humor to it, isn't there?
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Rather than just stress and drain.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: And even when you're in the thick of it,
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: it's like,
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: actually,
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: and what you're doing is you're just removing the charge so
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: that you can keep moving forward.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Because,
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: the more you get to know yourself,
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: whether it's because it's the anxiety or the doubt or whatever it is that's popping
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: in, you know, it's just there as feedback.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: I know we have to, don't we?
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Because we're almost having a fight with ourselves just to exist.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: And that's exhausting.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: It's like, why do I do that all the time?
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Actually, I love the part of me that does that all the time.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: We must welcome more parts, all parts.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: And I know we touched upon before we hit recording, but I find this is an interesting part.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: So for someone that's written a book as well,
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: I fully empathize and understand and have compassion
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: for anyone else who's done this.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: But it's like you have all this energy trying to get your book out.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: You get the book out and you're like, yeah, I'm going to market it.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: And you're like, it's done.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: I don't care anymore.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Like I'm just going to put it on the shelf and then I'm done with it.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: It's just like you get to this high and then it's kind of anticlimactic and
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: then you kind of come back.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: So for anyone listening, I'm curious how your journey went with that as well.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: To be honest, I tend to write when I'm in a difficult patch in life.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: That tends to be what happens.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: And someone asked me actually, when is the next book coming out?
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: And I thought,
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: I really kind of hope there isn't one because I only write
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: when I'm really struggling with something.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: It's like this Energy takes over and I feel so passionate about whatever it is
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: that it just comes out.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: And that's kind of what happened with this one.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: I wrote it reasonably quickly.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: I was consumed by it for some months.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: And when it came out, I almost don't know how It happened, if that makes sense.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: I really, really thought, I don't really know how that happened.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: And then when it was published that day, I was really excited.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Me and my friend went out and it was all like, oh, this is, you know, publication day.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: But I was exhausted by that point.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: And then I thought, I've got to, you know, take a step back.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Now go talk about it, but I don't want to.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: It's a lot.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: It is a lot.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: And I think Especially when you,
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: depending what type of book you're writing,
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: obviously you're in kind of every book that you write anyway,
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: but when you're writing something about emotions and writing it in the space
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: that you're in, Kelly, I feel,
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: I just got this image of like,
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: once the book's done, it's like, oh, I've shifted and worked through that.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Thank you very much.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: I don't want to keep reliving it now.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: You know, I don't want to keep working through it again and again and again.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's definitely a step back part.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: And I did one of the words that I use for I was integration.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: And I'm really realizing how much I missed that part before.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: So I would go to like a sound bath,
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: a meditation group,
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: and this, this,
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: this, and the other, you know, as many therapies and different things as I could do.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: And it's almost like momentarily shifted from being addicted to anxiety,
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: which I talked about in my last book, to addicted to almost healing.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: So I was like, right, I need this.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, that feels good.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: That might be good for me.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: That might take me out of this hell for a moment.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: And then I almost got addicted to healing.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: And then I was thinking, no, integration is so very important.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: We have to pause in it.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: And it's like you just touched on there.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: It's, you know, this, well, hang on, I've just written about all of this now.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: I've just dumped all of this out.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: It was really important.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: I've just got to step back from it now.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: I've just got to feel what that was.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: I've got to be with that thing.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: And I recorded the audio book of this and I still haven't.
- 12:13SPEAKER_03: I had to obviously listen to the files, but I still can't listen.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: It took me a whole year to listen to my first book back.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: And even then I had two very different experiences.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: One was, did I write that?
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: That's actually really quite important, that part.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: And then the other part was, oh, I know so much more since then from now.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: But that was that part.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: And it's like experiencing that,
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: sharing what feels important,
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: but then, yeah, just putting it down.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: It's interesting because I had a lot of projects going at once last year.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: And I said to my mentor, I said, I can't shift something.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Something doesn't feel right.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: You know, and she said, let me check in for you.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: And then she got back to me and she said, because you forgot to actually close off the projects.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: You forgot to finish them and put them on your ethereal shelf, right?
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: So I actually did this meditation and I went into my Akashic.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: And I had this project room and I had all these books scattered everywhere open.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my God, I feel like I'm doing a hundred things at once.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: So some of them I've still got to finish.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Like I've got to do my audio book for like my books and things like that.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: So they're on the to be continued book shelf, you know?
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: And then I had the ones that, okay, I've done that project.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: I'm done with that now.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Close and put it on the shelf.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: And that released my energy because I didn't realize how much We don't celebrate our successes.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: You know, it's almost like that, you know, like you went out with your girlfriend.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's publishing day.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: But then it's like, oh, okay, I'm done.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Actually, I wrote a book and it's really good.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: You know, like, yeah, you know, why am I celebrating that about me?
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: We forget to do that almost.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we do.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: That's so interesting what you say
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: because I feel like I've still got some energetic openings that I definitely need
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: to close down because I've been feeling really tired.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: And it is tiring, isn't it?
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: It's an exhausting process, writing, as you know yourself.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: And I just feel, you know, you just do things, don't you?
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: We just do things.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: And then you look back after and you think, did that happen?
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Or how did I do this?
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: And the passion takes over, doesn't it?
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: The energy just, the momentum is off.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: And then it's only when you step back to have that important pause that Like
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: that moment between your inhale and exhale that we forget.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: It's just, okay, that happened.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: But that was exhausting.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the energy protection is so important.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: And I feel actually just from this conversation,
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: I need to do a little bit of an inventory of my library, I suppose.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And it's interesting too, because I've had a lot of clients the last...
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Actually a week.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: And we've been going to check on their timelines and I'll take them in a meditation
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: and we get there and I'm like, oh my God, this is a mess.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what?
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: And we have timeline guardians, which is really cool.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So there's like a spirit or entity or energy.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: And when I say entity, entities are good and bad.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: People don't freak out.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: But there'll be someone looking after it and we have had to fire them, Kelly.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: We've had to say, you're not doing your job.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Upgrade, please.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Like, give me someone new.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: So it's been really interesting doing that with clients.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: And then I went to do my own and I said, I need someone bigger than this.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And they're like, what do you mean?
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: I said, I am helping other people with their timelines.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I want someone big working on mine.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: You know, like I want the timeline person.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: And he's like, you can't have me.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: This is what he said to me.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: You can't have me.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I need to create a being for you.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: So currently I have two guardians, right?
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Because they're kind of holding the interim space while they're sorting out what I want.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Because I don't know exactly what I want yet either.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: But it's It's interesting because when we have so many options
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: because we're infinite, right, we can do as many things as we like.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: But when your energy is spread that thin,
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: it makes it really hard to focus on one thing and
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: then you end up getting nothing done, right?
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's so true.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: We do that often, don't we?
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if we have too many books open, like you say, it's very difficult to ground into that.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: And actually, that's one thing I will say.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: When I did Write, Can You Hear Me?
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: I was in it.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: I was fully in that one.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, there was obviously life going on around me,
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: but it was a real anchor writing that book this year for me.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: And then you're like, that's why I did that.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's been important though, I feel.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I feel too sometimes writing can be such a cathartic experience
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: and it can help you really step out of, you know, what you might be going through.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: And if anyone's listening and they're like,
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: oh my goodness, people wouldn't believe what I'm going through.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: I just need to put it in a book.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Put it in a book.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Even if you never publish it, who cares?
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: It's the actual experience of writing sometimes that just allows you to show
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: that you can create that and that you are pretty powerful too.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's, I mean,
- 17:16SPEAKER_03: every time I write anything,
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: there are so many things I write and don't share because that's all important
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: as well.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: And even with this,
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: it was really experience-based and that took a lot of bravery for me this time
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: because I just was thinking, no, this is my experience.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: This is what I have felt and moved through and I know that it helped me
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: and That's why I write it in this particular way.
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: It's really short,
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: like each chapter,
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: because there are 52 chapters, obviously, because of the 52 weeks of the year.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: They're quite short and they explore these different words and there's just
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: an invitation at the end for people to explore that word or invite them to think
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: of another because,
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: writing is such a powerful tool for all of us to just be able to listen
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: to our own words or listen to our own hearts,
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: which we very rarely make The conscious effort for that time for us.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: I know I actually feel guilty for taking time for myself.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: I recently went to the seaside because I live a couple of hours away from the sea
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: and I really wanted to go to the sea.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: And my children are a bit older now and they're kind of just doing their own thing.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: I thought, well, I'm going to go to the sea.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: So I went down to the seaside for the night and the woman in the guest house place,
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: it was really cute.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: She was like, oh, are you looking forward to your holiday?
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: And I burst into tears because I felt guilty for taking the time for me to go to
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: the sea with thinking, oh, my children would appreciate this, but I'm here.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: And I spoke to a friend about it and I thought, what is that?
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: And I know now I've made space to deal with that part or to acknowledge it.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: I love the part of me that feels guilty.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: I'm going to take that with me into the day.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: Because that's the part that is actually now weighing on me.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: I've explored like shame and grief and things like that.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: I'm all good with grieving, even friendships as we get older.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: You know, you have to lose people and it's really sad.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: But guilt for doing things for myself, it consumes me.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Especially, it plays a lot with mums, right?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: We tend to have, mum guilt is a real thing.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: You know, mum guilt is a big thing.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, if you don't spend time on yourself, then how can you show up as a mum?
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: This is what, we still have this programming that that doesn't make sense.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: It's like, but...
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: If I'm run down and I feel tired and I'm cranky and everything, at least I'm still showing up.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: But if you just spent that 10 minutes meditating or listening to your heart
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: or writing or doing something for you, Then you'll be happier and have more energy.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: And suddenly you have more time because everything gets done with more vivaciousness.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: All the kids are like, mom's in a funny mood.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Let's run with that.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: So it's really interesting when you sit back and you see that.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: But we are so conditioned that, no, no, we have to feed our children before ourselves.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Even though I'm so hungry, I could collapse, you know, like those sorts of things.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: It's fascinating, really, that unlearning and the unraveling of everything.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm finding really special right now is being aware of,
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: I suppose, the sensation in my body when I feel something.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: So now it's not just, oh, I feel guilty.
- 20:32SPEAKER_03: It's where do I feel guilt in my body?
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: And when I'm able to go into that space through some of the work that I sort of do
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: and share with other people, I feel Okay, which part of Kelly is this?
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: Because it's not just me now, is it?
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: There's layers of different parts of history, ancestrally, different age timelines in this life.
- 20:53SPEAKER_03: And if you don't spend time there, it can just get heavier and heavier.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: So the awareness is so very important.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: A hundred percent.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: And I love that you brought up feeling it in your body
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: because it's amazing how much we actually store different emotions
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: in different places of us.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: And then when you put two and two together,
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: it's like my knee always plays up and that's where I'm feeling guilt
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: or my back always plays up and that's where I'm feeling anxiety
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: or wherever it shows up in your body.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: But that helps you anchor it too.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: And what I've learned Because sometimes when I work with clients,
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: we go on the craziest journeys.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, whoa, okay, there's dragons, there's unicorns, there's fairies, whatever.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: You know, let's roll.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Let's go with that.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: But the flip side of that is if we can't observe it and put a name to it,
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: it's really hard to shift it, which I feel is looping back to your book, right?
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Like if you don't have that emotion, the name for that, it's really hard to shift it.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: And that was the big message that kept coming through from Spirit was,
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: If you can't name what's happening, we can't help you shift it.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Or if you can't feel what's happening, we can't help you shift it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Or if you can't see what's happening,
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: we can't help you shift it because you still have to somehow anchor in this realm.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: So, you know,
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: if you have like this kind of idea of what it could be,
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: but you can't pinpoint it,
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: this is where it's good to explore and yeah,
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: feel it in your body,
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: feel it in,
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: you know, where,
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: however you do it, write it down, whatever it is that needs to shift that for you.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is exactly what the book is about, really.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: It's really articulating or just at the very,
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: you know, starting point of feeling where something is.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: So, you know,
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: there are so many different words like discomfort for one of them,
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: which was going to be difficult to me.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: It landed up with discomfort and I explored and played around with that
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: and it's Well, where do you actually feel discomfort?
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: What is discomfort?
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: So many times people say, I feel uncomfortable or I feel overwhelmed or I feel something.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: But it's like, okay, are you thinking you feel that or do you actually feel it?
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: And if you feel it, where is that part?
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: Let's go there.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: Let's welcome that part of your body and explore the opposite.
- 23:13SPEAKER_03: Because when you can bring that balance in,
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: and that's also what a lot of it is about due to the work that I do
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: in deep restoration and yoga nidra and co-meditation,
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: it's exploring the opposites of things,
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: which is so powerful for us to find that shift.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: Because ultimately,
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know about you,
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Catherine,
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: but the more I do and the more people I have the pleasure of spending time with,
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: Everybody just wants to feel connected to something or someone and belong somewhere.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: That's kind of it.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Whether you're a player.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Human conditioning, right?
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: We want to find our soul tribe.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: We want to find however that is.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: And I think this is this thing that keeps coming up when I do interviews.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Because my novel that I wrote talks about loneliness and loneliness leading
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: to decisions you wouldn't normally make.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: But there's nothing wrong with being alone because you're never fully alone.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: You're always connected, especially when you can connect in up higher.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: But the problem of being alone is when you don't want to face those parts
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: of yourselves that make you feel uncomfortable or vulnerable or whatever it is.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: And then we avoid that.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: And I feel that that's where...
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Sometimes we want to spiritually bypass what's happening,
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: but then there's that whole thing, what you resist persists.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: So if you don't sit there and feel it, how do you let it go?
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: If you don't acknowledge it and see it in your body, how do you let it go?
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: And I'm so with you that people just want to feel connected because I know
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: when I have someone that I can just talk to and just Have a bit of a vent
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: about something that happened in my day.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: That's enough to just discharge it, right?
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: So actually I was talking to a friend before and she was asking me and I was like,
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: okay, this is the last time I'm talking about this.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: This is my agreement with myself because I've had a rough week.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: And she's like, okay, I understand.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: I was like, thank you for listening.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: She just needed to get that out because it's been weighing on me.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: And that's why we want that connection, right?
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: And we want that tribe or someone to support us.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: And how can we fully find that if we're not truly ourselves?
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: We're kind of then in false tribes or places that don't make us feel good.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: So it's really stripping back to find out who we are.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: So we're in the right circle, the safe circle.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: And you're so right.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: All we ever really want half the time.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: I know in relationships myself,
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: sometimes the breakdown and the fallout comes from someone just not being able
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: to listen.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: Which is why I called it Can You Hear Me?
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: Because so often I have been criticized for saying the same thing in about 1700 different ways.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: I'm tired of my own voice, believe me.
- 25:58SPEAKER_03: I'm sick of it.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: But if someone were to actually listen, no action is really required at all.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: You just want someone to go, I hear you.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: That sounds rough.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: And then you're like, okay, great.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: I didn't need to be validated.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: I don't need to be put in my victim story.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: I don't need any of that.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: I actually just needed to get it out and express it in a way that I can shift it out
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: of my body and it's done.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Thank you for listening.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: Thank you for listening.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Just a safe space to just say something.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: Welcome here.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I love the part of me that says these words.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: I love the part of me that's angry about this.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: You know, hatred has come up a lot in spaces I've been in this week.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: We're talking about hatred because a lot of the time we feel like we are
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: a terrible person if we hate something.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: I'm like, sometimes people are just a-holes and you're allowed to hate them.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Sometimes people's actions are terrible and you're allowed to hate that.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Hate is not a bad emotion.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: It's just telling you it's completely out of alignment where you're heading.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: And I think the more we suppress hate and anger and anxiety and all those sorts
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: of things,
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: I just feel that they end up bubbling up another way rather if you just feel it in
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: the moment, go, God, I hate that.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, moved on.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: You know, like it just, you just let it go.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Whereas, you know, if you sit there and go, I can't hate that.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: That's not love and light.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: You know, I can't do that.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: I know a friend of mine actually,
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: who does a lot of really great work in sort of constellation therapy and things like
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: that, which is fun.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Brilliant.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Has said about that love and light terminology.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of pressure,
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: even in the spiritual wellbeing community,
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: for people that are new to coming in and feel that the purpose is to feel peace
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: and love and light.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: And we don't feel peace and love and light.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: We just feel safe enough to feel all the things.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: And it's true.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: Back to children again.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: If you have an angry child, they're automatically branded as naughty.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: They're not naughty.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: They're just struggling to safely feel some stuff.
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: When they've moved past the anger, that then becomes something else.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: And it might be,
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: grief or pain or,
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: you know, you don't know what it is, but it's not just bad behavior.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: It's an emotion that's there for a reason.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: We all feel anger.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: And as adults, we learn to contain it.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: And like you say, what happens if we contain it only goes into something else a different time.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: So we must feel all the things.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: And then if we don't feel all the things,
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: this is where our body shows up with dis-ease because that's the game that we play,
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: and that's part of the human conditioning that we have to learn to feel things more
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: and go through those things too.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: Exactly that.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so true.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: We have to feel it.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: And also the other important thing is not to just sit in it all the time.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: There can be that unhealthy proportion of, oh,
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: I'm going to sit in the sadness,
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: I'm going to sit in the this, or I'm going to stay in this high place.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: It's like the balance, isn't it?
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: Again, the opposite is between, okay,
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: let's go up here,
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: let's take ourselves there,
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: let's explore all outside of self and draw different parts in,
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: but let's also stay grounded, let's come back down here and let's be present.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: And then the more that you can be present,
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: the less you are likely to go into that anxiety or to go into that regret or,
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: allow yourself to get cycled into the story of what could be or what was
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: when it's actually not what is.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly that.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: I feel that's a title for something.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: That's your next breakthrough, isn't it?
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Possibly, possibly.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: And as we start to finish our time together, Kelly,
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: if people want to come and find your book or they want to come and connect with you,
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: where is the best place that they can go?
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, I've got two websites.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: One is just my name,
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Kelly Sayward,
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: as it's spelled here,
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: just the surname S-A-W-A-R-D.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: And that's all about my work with sort of communicating with people,
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: stuff I do on the radio.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: My new book is linked to that.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: And then Room 478 is my well-being website.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: All books are available on all the platforms, Spotify, Amazon, Audible.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Fun places.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: And I'll make sure to put all those details in the show notes for everybody
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: who wants to check out.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: But if you did enjoy this episode or you want more of Kelly,
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: you'll have to go back about a year to find our episode.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: But I'll put the link down below as well so you can find the original episode
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: where we took all that anxiety.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: So this is the next step of the evolution after the anxiety.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: This is Kelly now.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: So thank you everyone for listening.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: And thank you, Kelly, for being on the show again.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Thanks for having me.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: Thank you for listening to Willow Healing Matters, the podcast.
