• 2:09
Speaker 1: Jeff Heitzman is joining us and he always likes to chime in on these sorts of things, and if you'd like to chime in, you're more than welcome to join us as well.
• 2:17
  Speaker 1: Info at inwheeltimecom.
• 2:18
Speaker 1: Get your chimer out, yeah.
• 2:20
Speaker 1: And so this is our first auction car that was sold on Hemmingscom, and so we're going to ask the boys what they thought this car sold for.
• 2:30
Speaker 1: Now, this is a 1951 Studebaker Commander.
• 2:35
Speaker 1: My brother I don't know how he acquired the car, I don't know whether it was his mom's car or whatever, but he had one of these things, and last time I saw him alive, obviously I asked him.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: I said whatever happened to that car?
• 2:50
Speaker 1: He says I got rear-ended and the back bumper of the car was pushed all the way to the back of the front seat.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: That's how bad it wrecked, anyway.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: So this is an all-original, completely restored 1951, ugly Studebaker Commander.
• 3:08
  Speaker 3: How much it's at $32,000.
• 3:11
  Speaker 2: $32,000.
• 3:11
Speaker 2: I'm going right for it.
• 3:12
  Speaker 2: I'm taking it all $32,000.
• 3:15
Speaker 2: It looks like it rolled out of the showroom is what it does.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: It's got bias tires on it.
• 3:19
Speaker 3: Ugly green, it's got the air conditioning vent on the side, I'll go 24, and Mr Heitzman says 19.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: This car sold for $31,500.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: Oh, way to go, jeffy Got it $31,500.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: I'd tow it out.
• 3:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and the interesting thing about this thing, you know, it's got that middle eyeball up there in the front.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: Forehead one of those.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: Yes, it actually turned when you turned the steering wheel, turned when you turn the steering wheel.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: And if you look at the car, it's not in this picture.
• 3:44
Speaker 1: But if you look at the car from the side, the back window is a wraparound, yeah, which makes the car even uglier, but that was what kind of sold the car, I guess.
• 3:54
  Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
• 3:55
Speaker 2: My aunt still had a Ford that had that in the front.
• 3:57
Speaker 1: And if you remember correctly, that was also the Tucker.
• 4:02
  Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
• 4:03
Speaker 1: Let's go to number two.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: This is a 1960 convertible Pontiac Catalina, fully restored.
• 4:11
Speaker 1: Big, wide whites on it.
• 4:12
  Speaker 1: It looks beautiful.
• 4:14
Speaker 1: You could never fit that in two garages it's so huge, but it's a two-door convertible 1960 Pontiac Catalina.
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: How much?
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: 41.
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: Jeff says 41.
• 4:23
  Speaker 1: Mars, I'm going.
• 4:24
  Speaker 1: Jeff says 41.
• 4:25
Speaker 1: Mars, I'm going to go 30.
• 4:27
  Speaker 1: 30?
• 4:28
  Speaker 1: Did Mr Heitzman?
• 4:30
  Speaker 3: join us.
• 4:30
Speaker 3: He hasn't chimed in yet, or neither has George.
• 4:33
Speaker 3: Okay, so Heitzman says 31.
• 4:35
  Speaker 3: 31.
• 4:36
  Speaker 1: Well, it's sold.
• 4:37
  Speaker 1: Y'all are close $35,999.
• 4:40
Speaker 1: I'll split it with you, jeffrey.
• 4:41
Speaker 1: Okay, next up, this is the C5 Corvette convertible, a 1998 model.
• 4:56
  Speaker 1: It's a C5.
• 4:56
  Speaker 1: That's a C5.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: It's just like my car, except this is a convertible version of it.
• 5:01
Speaker 1: Okay, it's very clean.
• 5:02
  Speaker 1: Yes, that's a factory option.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: Mine had that on there and I took it off the door guards.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: How much did that car?
• 5:10
Speaker 3: sell for Didn't give you the mileage.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: I didn't look up the mileage.
• 5:15
Speaker 1: I don't want to get into all that Well that's the big deal.
• 5:18
Speaker 3: on the price of it, I mean that can make $10,000 difference, unfortunately.
• 5:21
  Speaker 1: No, not in a C5,.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: No, if it's worth it.
• 5:26
Speaker 2: You have to trust me on this, michael, you go first.
• 5:30
Speaker 3: I'm going to go for 22.
• 5:32
  Speaker 3: I was thinking 21.
• 5:34
  Speaker 3: George says 37.5.
• 5:37
  Speaker 3: Heitzman says 40.
• 5:38
  Speaker 3: 15 488.
• 5:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the reason that I picked it out, because even though my car, when I bought it, it had 16,000 miles on it, this is in 2017.
• 5:52
Speaker 1: Okay, it only had 16,000 miles on it.
• 5:55
Speaker 1: I bought my car for $16,000.
• 5:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, but your car today, that Corvette today, with 16,000 miles on it, it's going to be 28 to 30,000.
• 6:05
Speaker 1: It's got 35,000 miles on it.
• 6:05
  Speaker 1: It's going to be 28,000 to 30,000.
• 6:06
Speaker 1: It's got 35,000 miles on it now.
• 6:08
Speaker 1: It's still going to be over 20,000.
• 6:10
Speaker 3: Okay, if you say so I'm looking at what Emmons and all these other guys have priced them for.
• 6:15
Speaker 1: Okay, well, thank you, I'll take that as a compliment.
• 6:18
  Speaker 3: Yes, you should.
• 6:18
Speaker 1: Next up is a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro that was convertible.
• 6:22
Speaker 1: Though that was a convertible, it was a convertible.
• 6:25
  Speaker 1: This is a 1996 Chevy Camaro Z28.
• 6:28
Speaker 1: It's got 18,000 original miles on it.
• 6:32
Speaker 1: How much do you think that that car sold for?
• 6:36
Speaker 1: I said it's got 18,000 miles on it.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: It looks like it's got T-tops.
• 6:41
  Speaker 3: Probably so.
• 6:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, it'd probably leak.
• 6:42
Speaker 3: I'm not a fan of that car.
• 6:44
Speaker 3: I'm not a fan of that car.
• 6:45
  Speaker 3: I'm not either.
• 6:45
  Speaker 3: I'll go 18.
• 6:46
  Speaker 3: I'm going to go 15.
• 6:47
  Speaker 3: George says 1066.
• 6:52
  Speaker 3: Jeff says 29,000.
• 6:54
Speaker 3: And Mr Delusk DT Delusk 24.
• 6:59
Speaker 3: I'm not sure who that is yet, but he says 26.
• 7:01
Speaker 1: Okay, well, george wins.
• 7:02
Speaker 1: It sold for $11,550.
• 7:05
Speaker 1: Now, at 18,000 miles, granted, it's an old car that could be George's car.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: The deal is with that is wouldn't you like to have your kid driving around in that?
• 7:17
Speaker 1: Doesn't have that much horsepower?
• 7:18
  Speaker 1: No, it doesn't, it's a 1996 Chevy Camaro Z28 with 18,000 miles, it sold for $11,550.
• 7:24
Speaker 1: Next up 2008 Ford Mustang.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: Oh boy, 2008 Ford Mustang Convertible.
• 7:34
Speaker 1: This is a convertible and it looks like it's a GT Yep, and what do you think that that sold for?
• 7:44
  Speaker 2: 4.6 liter V8.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: It's got the roll bar, it's got the wing on the back, it's got the rally headlights.
• 7:50
Speaker 1: Well, it's a GT, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a convertible, so I'm going to go 34.
• 7:55
  Speaker 1: Wow, okay, bars.
• 8:00
Speaker 3: I'm going to go.
• 8:00
Speaker 3: 28 is what I would say.
• 8:03
Speaker 3: Okay, George says 23.
• 8:08
  Speaker 3: Jeff says 22.
• 8:09
  Speaker 3: 15 to 25.
• 8:13
Speaker 3: I bought two of them.
• 8:15
Speaker 3: We had one that came in late at 13K.
• 8:17
Speaker 3: Well there you go.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: I'll give that one the winner.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the winner, that would be the winner, all right.
• 8:21
Speaker 1: And the last one, oh, beautiful, would be the winner, all right.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: And the last one?
• 8:32
Speaker 1: Beautiful is a 1964 dodge dart convertible and that is screaming yellow, chicken yellow.
• 8:34
Speaker 1: Whatever you want to call it, it's yellow.
• 8:35
Speaker 1: And those are not stock wheels on it, because I remember dodge darts didn't have that.
• 8:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's probably got a six cylinder in it, I'd.
• 8:43
Speaker 1: How much do you think that that would?
• 8:46
Speaker 2: sell, for I'm going to go $9,000.
• 8:48
Speaker 2: Really yeah, even though it's a ragtop.
• 8:53
Speaker 3: No, I'm going to, because it's a ragtop.
• 8:55
Speaker 3: I'll pump it out to $15,000.
• 8:57
  Speaker 3: I'm going to go $9,000.
• 8:59
Speaker 3: On Hemmingscom, George wants to know if you take green stamps 24-3.
• 9:05
  Speaker 3: Jeff says 14.
• 9:06
Speaker 3: I've got to find out who this is 1964 Dodge Dart sold for $9,500.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: George came in late at $8,000.

Speaker 3: You can drop the top Absolutely.
• 9:30
Speaker 1: You can go around topless when nobody was saying anything, I'd be all over that.
• 9:33
Speaker 1: Well, that was fun, mm-hmm.
• 9:35
Speaker 1: What do you say?
• 9:36
Speaker 1: That we do some recalls here.

• 11:25
  Speaker 1: Ford.
• 11:26
Speaker 1: I'm not even going to go to the rest of them.
• 11:28
Speaker 1: It's very disappointing and I like Fords, but they need to get their act together.
• 11:35
Speaker 1: I'm sorry it's going to kill them and it's killing them financially.
• 11:39
Speaker 1: You know recalls are not cheap.
• 11:41
  Speaker 1: No.
• 11:42
Speaker 3: No, they're not, Particularly if it's for some, and it's just Spend $100 to fix a little $5 item.
• 11:47
  Speaker 2: It's bad PR.
• 11:47
Speaker 2: Yes, well, as you know, they build in a recall on the price, so it happens.
• 11:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just not, it's not my thing.
• 11:57
Speaker 1: Okay, so now let's move on to the story of the week.
• 11:59
Speaker 1: And to the story of the week, and I'm going to read this and you guys will have your own opinions.
• 12:04
Speaker 1: No need to do research on this, I'm going to write it down.
• 12:07
Speaker 1: Okay, combustion engines will no longer be brand differentiators and will increasingly be sourced from suppliers, as automakers look to stay competitive against low-cost Chinese rivals, according to Ford Vice Chair, john Lawler.
• 12:23
Speaker 1: John, you may be the problem, sir, but that's another story for another day.
• 12:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, recall, john, automakers have long marketed their cars on the appeal of their in-house combustion engines.
• 12:34
Speaker 3: Right, right, ford Got a hint in that thing.
• 12:37
  Speaker 1: Chrysler.
• 12:37
Speaker 1: All those guys Got to have a hint, Whatever.
• 12:39
Speaker 1: Well, it gives them unique tailgate badging to highlight attributes such as turbocharging or direct injection.
• 12:48
Speaker 1: Those days are disappearing, according to Mr Lawler.
• 12:50
Speaker 1: He says I don't think that consumers really think about powertrains the way that they did 30 years ago, and I tend to agree with him.
• 12:56
Speaker 1: He said this to an audience at Bernstein's Strategic Decisions Conference.
• 13:02
Speaker 1: Whatever that is, the shift to hybridization hybrids has removed many of the unique characteristics of combustion engines, because electric motors are now used to increase power and reduce CO2 emissions instead, he says, where combustion engines defined what a vehicle was the horsepower, the displacement, the torque and everything about the vehicle.
• 13:21
Speaker 1: I think a lot of that is gone and I tend to agree with him.
• 13:24
Speaker 1: With automakers no longer relying on combustion engines for brand differentiation, this could free up brands such as Ford to save money by partnering with other companies to develop the next generation ICE engines.
• 13:36
  Speaker 1: Your thoughts?
• 13:42
Speaker 2: Mine is the skateboard effect.
• 13:44
Speaker 2: With electrics it's the same principle.
• 13:47
Speaker 2: My opinion of that.
• 13:48
Speaker 2: You've got a platform, everybody uses the platform, and that started out in electrics and then hybrids.
• 13:56
Speaker 2: Now it's going to be ICE, so it's probably just an evolution that needed to come.
• 14:00
Speaker 2: Look at the IndyCars Push to pass button.
• 14:01
Speaker 1: So it's probably just an evolution that needed to come.
• 14:02
Speaker 1: Look at the Indy cars yeah, push-to-pass button.
• 14:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's from an electric hybrid.
• 14:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, and do they tell you what kind of motor that they're using?
• 14:09
  Speaker 1: No, no.
• 14:10
Speaker 1: But same thing in Formula 1, too they have that.
• 14:12
Speaker 1: My take on it is this is a marketing person's gold mine, person's gold mine.
• 14:26
Speaker 1: So you name whatever you want that electric motor as the you know the golden boy from ford.
• 14:28
Speaker 1: Whatever you want to call it, call it something right and market that electric motor, as this car has that electric motor as a booster, just like the push to pass button on an indy car but I think what what he's talking about?
• 14:42
Speaker 3: back back to what Jeff just said the skateboard effect.
• 14:45
Speaker 3: You know that if everybody's got the same motor, like NASCAR or whoever so the marketing that people are doing today because of their hybrids or their Hemi's or their Corvettes, their performance vehicles, that's a different segment and it's a different market and I think they're going to lose that because now you've got the same powertrain and everything.
• 15:07
Speaker 3: So what are you going to sell to differentiate your Chevrolet from Ford?
• 15:11
Speaker 1: Well, I'm using the Hemi from Dodge from Chrysler Okay, good example.
• 15:18
Speaker 1: From dodge from chrysler okay, okay, good example.
• 15:19
Speaker 1: Because, let's face it, the moron that really put a torpedo to the entire brand when they said we're not going to build any ice engines, we're going to make it all electric, and threw away the one thing that they had marketed for decades about the hemi, the horsepower, all of the cars that were under that.
• 15:43
Speaker 3: The lifestyle, everything that goes with it.
• 15:45
Speaker 1: They threw it out the window Right and what happened?
• 15:48
  Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
• 15:51
Speaker 3: So if everybody goes to the same powertrain, like this guy is proposing, no, no, no.
• 15:56
Speaker 1: It's not the same powertrain.
• 15:58
Speaker 1: They're just going to sub out the powertrain to a supplier Right Like a door handle.
• 16:06
Speaker 3: Right, so you got.
• 16:07
Speaker 3: Xyb Motors is selling motors to all the car manufacturers, just like they do starter motors or anything else, and so if everybody's got the same powertrain that's what I'm saying how are you going to differentiate your vehicle?
• 16:20
Speaker 1: Because it's all going to be about body, the body style, trim levels, trim levels, the interior Capacity, weight.
• 16:27
Speaker 3: If you say that, go look at the small, compact SUVs that are out there now.
• 16:31
Speaker 3: How many of them have the same basic, same lines, because they're all mimicking each other Then I'm going to go back to the car that I reviewed and that's the buick invested.
• 16:38
Speaker 1: That is one hot little vehicle in my estimation.
• 16:42
Speaker 1: How well it will sell is yet to be seen because it's a new vehicle, but I'm telling you, I think that the price is right on that doesn't make any difference really what's underneath the hood, because I'm not buying it for that, that's right.
• 16:53
Speaker 3: But to that segment of the market.
• 16:55
Speaker 3: The buyers are there now, the segment that wants the 427s and the 426s and the performance vehicles, whether they want to put it in their museum and drive it on Sunday or they want to take it to the track.
• 17:05
Speaker 3: You're going to lose all of that.
• 17:08
Speaker 2: How is the warranty going to take place?
• 17:09
Speaker 2: So you buy a General Motors car, you've got a Ford car, but they've got the equal comparable parts.
• 17:14
Speaker 2: Who does the warranty on it?
• 17:15
Speaker 2: Is it going back to the manufacturer?
• 17:16
Speaker 2: How do they warranty that?
• 17:17
Speaker 2: And I'm supposed to get 28 miles to the gallon on it but I'm not getting that.
• 17:22
Speaker 2: But the other car has got the same product.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: It's got a 32 miles to the gallon.
• 17:25
Speaker 2: How are they going to?
• 17:27
Speaker 3: be able to go out there or go back to the Takata airbag.
• 17:29
Speaker 3: Same company builds it for everybody.
• 17:31
Speaker 3: Now something goes bad now everybody goes bad.
• 17:35
Speaker 2: Well, same thing with the vendors in a race.
• 17:37
Speaker 1: All of those Fords that I just told you about that are being recalled.
• 17:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, now it's going to be Chrysler and Chevrolet, exactly.
• 17:43
Speaker 3: They'll all fall into that same boat, just like Takata.
• 17:48
Speaker 3: I'm just saying that wouldn't be what I would want to do.
• 17:53
Speaker 1: Food for thought, more later Coming up.

Speaker 2: That would be interesting.
• 22:23
Speaker 2: It would be what if you could drive one of those things?
• 22:25
Speaker 2: Well, you'd have to probably learn how to drive one first of all.
• 22:29
Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean I could drive it, but I don't know how to shift the gears.
• 22:32
Speaker 2: I was a little kid, three, four, five years old.
• 22:34
Speaker 2: There was a gentleman, a family that lived across the street.
• 22:40

Speaker 2: He would bring his tractor home, back it up into the drive, close it off Back in the day, and he would occasionally take me for a ride around the block.

• 23:47
Speaker 1: Duvis' lawyer, mark LaFleur, said he does not comment on pending litigation.
• 23:53
  Speaker 1: Of course not.
