Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Give yourself permission to follow your joy whenever big or little ways that might be and link to like yourself, just kind of like be brutally honest.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like if I had no fear, what would that look like?
- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor and fit this business coach.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity, and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_03]: All right, be a babe, get ready to smile, get ready to like, first of all, I'm gonna say right now.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a fast talker, she's an excited talker.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: So if you normally listen on 2.0 speed, it might be a 1.5 episode, I'm just saying.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: But we're talking about joy today.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_03]: Amy Dickens is the author of the bestselling book, 101 Ways to spread joy and
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think we really need this right now.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think we need to, one, understand how do we even feel joy in our own selves.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: And then two, how does that like allow us to spread joy with others?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: And it's a really great story.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I could have talked to Amy for hours.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'll be really, really honest with her.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: We kept it short.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: And I think there's at least three takeaways that each one of you.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_03]: maybe different ones for one person.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: This one another thing that made sense more since to you.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: But I really do think that there's three awesome things that you can take away from this episode if not more.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: And it might be one of those ones that you kind of hit, rewind and go, wait, what did she do?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: And add it to your list of things to try out, because you've got to feel all of our feelings about one thing I think we really need to spend a little bit more time feeling as a joy in our lives.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely helps you be it till you see it and you're in here, all of that in this episode.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: So here's Amy Dickens.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_03]: All right, be a babe.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: This is going to be, I'm just going to say it.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a joyful conversation.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_03]: I have every, every part of my being says it's going to be that way, because we have Amy Dickens here, the author of 101 Ways To spread joy.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: So Amy, can you tell everyone who you are?
- 2:12[SPEAKER_03]: And why you rock at joy spreading?
- 2:14[SPEAKER_03]: Because I think that this is an interesting, like, I don't think I've never met anyone who likes says this is what I do for a living.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's funny.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: You say that because they literally just met somebody else that does it this past weekend.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'd enjoy make her boot camp and I'm like, whoa, other people do this.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: I thought I was like the only one.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so I grew up with a ton of mental health problems until like my mid to late 20s probably.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: It was joy, really, that helped re-spark me into this person that I am to rediscovering the joy of living kind of thing in all the big and the little ways and the true power of who I am as a person and that authenticity.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: the more that I lean into it, the more I was like, whoa, this is who I really am.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm on a mission to really help reconnect people to their joy so that they can become who they really truly are in this life.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then also it's turned into how can we create the world to be a better place because when we show up as the joy that we wish to see in the world that creates this invisible ripple effect that by in turn is kind of creating a new world basically for us to live in and
- 3:22[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, 100% Amy, I mean, like they always see your vibe attracts your tribe, right?
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: So if you're not joyful and you're like going in like an E or of course the only people who are actually going to talk to you are the E or's like it was really funny at my wedding these two women who didn't know it to their I saw them talking and hugging the only air conditioning vent and I was like of course those two would be talking.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_03]: they of course that's just like the cynic nature and them is just finding the cynic nature and each other and they're just going to be cynics covering up the AC and stealing it from everybody and no wonder everyone they're turning everyone into them so it's just kind of funny how like I do agree like we the more joyful we are living our life it one it invites other people to be joyful too but it does it does make the world a little bit better place and it's really hard saying that like we're actually recording this during a time like we're just not feeling
- 4:08[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't feel very painful and I feel like it's really easy for people to even think that this is like a toxic positivity conversation that like it's it's not even can stop full considering what is going on, but I'll just tell you a little background that you don't know about me in my spaces there are places where you can.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_03]: you can complain.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's called a 90-minute channel and you're allowed to need a moment and bitch, but I have a rule that you have to have a win.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_03]: You have to share a win at the same time.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: You don't get to come back later and do it.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_03]: You had to do it at the same time because there's always something good going on too and there is a balance and we can't just like throw up on people and then it and then come back and do joy later.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: So tell me, we know what we know what's going
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: is Jo is seeking joy like a waste of time, not thoughtful.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like how can we do that in a way that doesn't feel like privileged and like do you know what I mean?
- 4:56[SPEAKER_03]: I made this a huge question.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_03]: I just laid it down.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: Lay the huge questions on me.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here for it.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: I am all about it.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: I-
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: personally have a really deep belief deep in my bones that we need our joy to eat now more than ever.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then also like little caveat is that when I say this, I don't mean that we have to like live it this peak state of like bullish and joy a hundred percent of the time.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm fucked by joy up.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: But take your, take your bad news over there.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not like that.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's like, okay, we get to be.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: I always say like, oh, human that has the full spectrum.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: of human emotions and like we aren't like repressing stuff because that also doesn't work.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like we've seen that we've been there.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: We've done that.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: We know that that's not also the way.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like shut up and ignore stuff.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: We can feel the whole thing.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like where I'm looking at the world and I've been, you know, the best 12 years on this whole self-help dream, it feels like joy, often was a missing component in a lot of things that I was seeing and
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: I truly do believe that our joy, I can't say I live these joy parades.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: So my joy parades, I give people singing and dancing in the street.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: The whole point is to basically uplift yourself and to be this little uplifting moment, this breath of fresh air.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: This glitch in the matrix kind of like, whoa, people are looking up from their phones and suddenly they're like, dancing and singing like, who are the dogs out with us or something?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm like a random Saturday.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: And like it all lifts them.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: And the response I get is otherworldly.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: And at the same place where we start this oftentimes, there's happenstance happens to be a protest for something like on the other side of the street or something and it's a little bit edgy.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes people feel a little angry at us for like, what are you doing?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, I feel like we are just taking two different paths of, you know, like, to the same thing.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, right?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the same coin like kind of thing, but it's just like, oh, you can either do this way or that way.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying you're ways wrong or right.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is just the way that feels like my part to play and it feels like if we can show up in a joyful way because I know myself personally, I make different choices when I'm in an angry state when I'm in a fearful state when I'm in a joyful state and I truly believe that if we can start to be more joyful and connective with
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: each other that we will start to create different decisions that we will show up and create little micro pockets of the new world rather than create there's so much fear, there's so much divisiveness right now and we're just it feels like we're getting more and more separate and to me that feels scary, to me that feels not like not creating the world we wish to be in when we're like your different we can't talk.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: You think different things we can't talk.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: I really would love to create a world of like, can we even dance together in the street for a second?
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even need to know.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then from that space, there can be a level of safety almost because we all laugh and like we all want the longing.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_03]: And it also makes anything like, what's part of you want to be at, right?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: Like, like, at the Portland protest, talk about joy, like that you were seeing with the frog guy and all the things and like the thing you're not that are whole things about protests and by do think that like it's important that we talk about how joy can exist in a place where you are where you are still wanting to support causes that you care about or writes that you care about and like one of our first protests that we went to while living in Vegas.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_03]: there was drummers and there was music and performance we're singing and it just made everyone flipping us off look so weird because it's like we're having a great time like you look so strange and so part of me is like I want to be at the joy protest you know that's what I want to be at
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I mean, like I've heard someone else say she was like, there's a war on happiness and like they're kind of it sometimes We'll earn people they get mad at like joyful happy people.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: I want to go back to like a little bit like how like kind of you you Presets them about like growing up and like
- 8:40[SPEAKER_03]: I don't remember it a time of like actual peer celebration and then look my parents listen to this and they're going to be like, excuse me, we did celebrate on April 13th at this time like I'm sure there was, but in my I'm thinking about like the way I interpreted things is like, oh, I won, but with the team one, but I dropped the ball like we did this, but then I could have been like every achievement of celebration was also really the thing that I took away just the personality type that I have.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_03]: was like all the things that could have done better.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's very rare that you're just like in the joyful moment.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: And not that you shouldn't reflect back about what's going on, but I do think that we're too often because we're busy and we are doing to me things.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_03]: We're not taking a time to celebrate what we did do.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: And then on a separate time, sit down and go, okay, so what is the post-mortem on that?
- 9:30[SPEAKER_03]: Because we ruined the joy part by talking about the things that could have done better, which we could do the next day.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there is such a focus on like what didn't work in complaining and like this and we have a negativity bias already like biologically as humans.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: So we're just wired for that.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: So it's it's hard.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's challenging to unlearn our old programming and say how can because I think most of us could really probably agree.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think most people say
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to be more joyful?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think most people would probably check, yeah.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, you know.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_03]: Can you imagine that the person's like, I don't think many people be like, no, I have enough to be miserable.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think, I have had a lot of people like on the streets be like, I'm already joyful.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, all right.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, good, my group more hard to you, man.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that it's a hard build as well.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of hard to retrain ourselves to learn to be joyful.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's, I call it the joy gym.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you have to go to the gym or, you know, some workout class to build a muscle.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't go, like, your muscle fatiques and you lose that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it's the same thing with joy.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you don't always want to go to the gym.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: You don't always want to make a choice to choose to be a different person, to choose to,
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: like move your body or a thinking ways that a joyful person would.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's like a slight discipline and also I think a need for that why that pulls you to, oh, this is why I am making this choice to be a joyful person because I know that I'm showing up in like this joyful way, I get to create a ripple of impact around me.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: I can make someone's day.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: I can be the person with the energy in the room that is impacting everyone to kind of have that
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, I feel like so much more myself.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: I feel so much more empowered after talking to our inspired or just like, yeah, I feel good, like, you all know those people.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: And we can be that person.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not like, if you're not that person, because I wasn't that person.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I straight up was not even close to that person.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: And it was over the years choosing again and again, a thing that like, build my cup and like, we're joyful to me and living a joyful life and life of purpose and all of these things.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: And to be a bumpy road, right?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: but also saying, okay, like, how do I practice and also mess up a bazillion different times at trying to be her?
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what does that version of me look like?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's trial and error and sometimes like it feels uncomfortable when you're not used to doing it because you've never done it before and it doesn't really make it wrong.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: You can just say, hey, you know, not that way, but let's try this way this time.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's just Amy and you just mentioned like be her with like obviously the beat till you see a podcast and like I think it's just interesting thing like you know a lot of us are waiting until when we get somewhere right like that's what the story when I get this but I went when this happened
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: And like, we actually do have to be a Toysieat.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: So like, to be a joyful person, you actually cannot wait for a joyful moment.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be the joy that you want to see.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's what they say, right?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like, so can we talk a little bit about that?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you weren't always a joyful person and you were trying to be a joyful person.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what did being a joyful person before you were a joyful person look like?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what did it look like?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_03]: What did it look like?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: What did it look like?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: What did the joy gem look like?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: What was the first wrap you had?
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, for me, I'm like, I always say I wouldn't say I'm the most normal cookie of all time.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of like an all or nothing kind of girlly sometimes.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, it really looked like I had this huge breakup moment and that with like a person I was with for 11 years and I was like, this whole like, whoa, like restructuring of my life and I said, whoa, I'm going to follow my joy.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: What does that even look like?
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even really know like to just follow like, what is it that only me?
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: Only me is like an adult woman want to do.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I realized it was these big things that were often really joyful.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: and really scary to another part of me.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: And that was the reason why I hadn't done any of these things.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was like, I've always wanted to do like a yoga teacher training for like eight years.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, why have I not do that?
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, because I was like, well, I'm not a yoga teacher.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was like the story that I had and I said, oh, well, you're never going to become a yoga teacher unless you like do the training.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's literally the only way to do it.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: And like, no one walks into that door and is like, yeah, I'm already a yoga teacher on the way.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's boring with the certification.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: You have to go do it.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: But like I had it really.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let myself take risks.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think very much and let myself fail and learn that they're like y'all failed in poems, you know, and and just do stuff and flop.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I think I was like, what if I do this?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it doesn't work or like, I can't to be her.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I just would like take both leaps and like book one way taken to places.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like pretty wild and extreme and it doesn't have to look like that.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that the the nugget of wisdom within that was
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: allowing myself to say, what is it that I really would spark joy inside of me that makes me feel alive, you know, and what would that look like, you know, on a big scale or a micro scale to follow that to empower myself to make a move or it's becoming that
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, knowing that I do it scared and knowing that at first it was an uncomfortable and that didn't make it wrong, but that the more like you kind of gained the confidence by doing it, you know, you don't get confidence by just like thinking about it or prepping for it, you get the confidence by like doing the reps and you're like, oh, suddenly my comfort son's bigger because I've been doing this.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and now there's like a new edge for me to walk into it's the craziest thing ever one is like I'm just waiting to I want a more confident I'll do this one and it's it's a really.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_03]: something that I have struggled with and just like supporting people and coaching people and being up like you're just like, wait, do you think that like some people were just born confident and others were like, not because that's not what I think.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think that somewhere along the way, some people's confidence, you know, bucket was like upheld and supported.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_03]: Some people's confidence buckets were kicked down the street and we all have one.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: And we all the only way to keep confidence or get it back is to do the thing you said you do.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: scared and be willing to fail and flop and try again and I think like some people have just a really hard time with either rejection or the failure of it all like there's a perfectionist problem you know that affects people from experiencing joy like I don't think you can be a perfectionist and a joy filled person and I don't think the two I don't know.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_03]: I could be wrong.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_03]: Have you met a perfectionist who's joyful?
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I would say there's a lot of recovering perfectionist.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not that like an angel.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I'm different.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also raising my hand here.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: I also have that.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's a lot of other.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: I've ever heard on TV.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: They're constantly there forever.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_03]: Going to AA saying hi, that's me.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, I am less close to number of covering perfectionists.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I have some days that are great and some days that could be better.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think that a huge part in retrospect and also reflecting on how many people that I've talked to and this wasn't really a conscious choice at the time was because I used to have horrible social anxiety.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like very, very intense, like could not really talk to anybody that I didn't know extremely well very, but without, like,
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: feeling like my whole body was like flushed in tents and like I need to run.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's so fun because like how do you get to know people if you don't talk to them?
- 16:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's really a difficult.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was like really just throwing myself into the deep end of like, okay, like you got to like sit with this and learn that people aren't scary by being with people.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: And now I know we know that like the number one predictor of like joy and happiness is the quality of your relationships in your life, both like the deep intimate relationships and just like the number of people that you like random strangers apparently that's like really good for our joy and our mental health just be like, yeah,
- 17:16[SPEAKER_03]: Hi, Bob, like getting the mail today, like, I don't know apparently they say that's great for you.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: But it's hilarious.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know that and no wonder like in a way, an apartment, I would live near people for tip.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_03]: How long do I live there?
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: Seven years in the apartment, I didn't know anyone's name.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: And say, I just like they would swap past each other.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: My neighbors, I lived here almost six years.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_03]: And we know every neighbor's name.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_03]: We know them all.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even like you need to like hang out all the time, but there's some really more difficult like yeah communalness to it.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that was also a part of my journey to be coming more joyful was learned because I think so many of us are like, how do we make friends as adults, how do I and there's this this slowlyness epidemic, you know, like it's just over.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think learning how to heal that and and really value like okay.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: I need to learn how to make community, to make friendships, to be bold and brave and put myself in situations where I feel really scared and I'm doing it anyways.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I'd have like questions on my phone and case like my brain would go blank at first because I'm like, oh my god, like, what if I don't know what to say?
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then I go, yeah, I'll have like some juicy questions on my phone so that I can learn how to do it like that.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_03]: If you have this conversation, you know, or give yourself training wheels, or I do fund things with people, I love dancing and dancing so regulating so that's like a great way to, you know, try and eat people and now you can go to like silent disco so you can be someone who's so introverted and who loves to dance and you can go be amongst a ton of people but by yourself and so you can build up the confidence to be in a group of people like there's just so many different ways to can do things now.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_03]: And I just read that the World Health Organization says that being lonely, like loneliness is terribly bad for both your physical and your mental health.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like we are designed to be amongst people.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_03]: So I just want to take a step back because like, you know, mentioned you like have mental health issues going up, terrible anxiety.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: When did you get a resume together for a joint job?
- 19:12[SPEAKER_03]: I guess I don't, I'm gonna be really honest, Amy, like if I was your parent, oh, I'd be like, can she make money like spreading joy?
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't understand.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_03]: So can we talk a little about the journey to go like that you went on that made you this not only an expert, but someone who wrote a best-selling book, like that just, it seems a little odd.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely, I mean, it certainly was not like the trajectory that I ever had in mind of like, hmm, yeah, I'm going to graduate college and this is what I will do with my degree.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, is there, is there, I mean, there is happiness.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: Poaching degrees that I know because I've interviewed people or certified in happiness coaching, but I don't know I don't know if that's what you did.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, tell me more.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, that that certainly was not the plan.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think because of all of my mental health and all this kind of stuff, I was obsessed with
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: self-help, mental, like, reading all of the books, doing all of the courses from past 12 years, and then, like, got really into teaching yoga.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: That was, like, kind of where I started all of my my joyful, I think, experience, and then, from teaching yoga, I was like, I started wanting to make people dance on the mat, and then it turned into, ooh, what have we played games together instead of doing yoga at all, and suddenly I'm,
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: leading workshops in how do we get people to authentically connect and use play to regulate the nervous system and just kind of and seeing events started happening.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it was just all of these kind of happenstance things start happening, you know, not like those things were like, I was planning on doing this.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody just kind of asked me if I would do something.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, sure, I'll try and do that.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: I've never I'm seeing an event before.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see, and it was fun.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then through that, you know, you're uplifting people.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: And before I know what I'm leading parades of people dancing through the streets, there's like on a mission of spreading joy around.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been, it's been such a journey.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: And like in there, there's like a whole coaching certification in business that I had started at the time.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: And all of a million other things.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if there was just this part of me that was like, I'm on a mission.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that because deep in my bones that this mission chose me, it feels like like I didn't like say like I want to be the joy lady like it just felt like I need a purpose.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: What is my purpose?
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: And it just kept like coming to me.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, okay, like I know because it shows me like this is inevitable that it will work.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's there is no chance that like it doesn't and if it if it's not working yet, I just got to keep going and I got to have fun with it too.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: I realized that there's
- 21:36[SPEAKER_03]: When she's part of the house, Amy, if you're like having the least amount of fun becoming a joy coat, I'm just... Oh, there was definitely, I'm gonna be real honest.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: There was that moment there, right?
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: I had like a whole shame spiral, so it was so like perfectionist in this one moment.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, burn, burn, burn myself out and I was like, oh my god, I am so stressed about like being this joy coat, and making this business work, I'm like,
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm an imposter.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: You stress yourself out of joy.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: No, absolutely.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, okay, like, I gotta learn to enjoy the journey because the journey is 98% of it.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the destination is this tiny little like, okay, roots that go like onto the, you know, next part of your journey.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: And it's fine and great to have goals.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: But to just be solely focused on the destination and like learning to enjoy life itself is a skill.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Learning to just be like, wow, I'm freaking joyful for no freaking good reason, like that is a skill and that's like, I see it as like a gift to this world if you can be so Truly just feel the blessings of this day, you're like, wow, I can walk, I can breathe, I can move my body and like all of these incredible things that we take for granted each and every day.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: Rather than focusing on the negative, we can create really incredible things from that space.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: So each and every one of us, when we're in that connected space to our true.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, our power, our gratitude.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's infinite abundance that we can create from that.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: I'm kind of wondering, so you know, you just mentioned a few things like I can breathe and I can walk and I do these things.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_03]: I think we do forget that there is joy and those things because it's certainly not joyful when like your leg falls asleep or your sick in bed.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like you're not feeling joy that and you're like, I miss being well, but you weren't enjoying how well you were, you know, before you were sick.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 23:28[SPEAKER_03]: I guess do you have any tools for people who are like, okay, I'm going to practice feeling the joy feeling right how did you practice being her being the joy?
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think that there's like kind of two different like if we're going to take the joy like there's almost like two different camps and one I would say simple joys of that like to me my number one way that I personally practice of this is I get outside and I'm feeling really stressed and I woke up like I look up at the sky, I look up at the trees I changed my perspective and I take a deep breath.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like a very simple like one second thing that you can do like you can do it between a zoom count call and like one minute if you're like door is close enough and it's something about changing your perspective you're looking up at the sky and the trees and it's like whoa.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a human being, like, I'm not just this robot that needs to be hyper-productive.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: And there's something about it that just really like instantly brings me back into, whoa, I am not just here to do do do do, I am here to be a human being and that and just enjoying the little simple things, whether it's just like,
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I, how much can I, like, room-hand decides and enjoy this moment of my life?
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I just like put a sweet playlist on in the background, and change the way in which I'm working.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Can I slow down and eat a meal?
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's constantly what I'm still working on to this day is like, and I know, I keep saying I'm going to.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_03]: I do have an hour-long lunch break.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, it's so easy to be like, oh, I'm just going to do one more thing.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: And, oh, now the lunch break is only 20 minutes, and I'll just do, I'll do this while I'm doing that.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's definitely bad habit.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: That was one I will, I think I would like to try to find the joy in slowing down.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_03]: But I couldn't agree more.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: The simple joy is I love the e-bred and two camps so far because I think sometimes when I'm stressed out, I just take a walk around my one block.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_03]: And it's right.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_03]: You're stressed out and then you somehow around a corner and through the, all of a sudden you're like, oh, okay, I'm ready to go back in.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_03]: Like you're just, you know, it's a really weird thing how quickly our brain will shift if we give it the opportunity to experience a simple joy.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it just needs that little simple moment.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: I've been taking these like miracle walks in the morning where I leave my front door on a safe.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'm not going to come back until I find three miracles.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, okay, no, I only have time for like a walk around the blocks as a 10 minutes.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: And it expands your definition of what miracle is.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a little piece of dew at the end of the leaf.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: Or, you know, some birds like singing and flying in front of your face are,
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whatever it might be that you notice on that same block you walked a million times, but that in and of itself is training yourself to look for the joy, the beauty, the good in the world, in a place that you've been a million times.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, everyone.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_03]: Great idea.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_03]: That is so great.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's so fun.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: I love so much fun with it.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: And the other camp is, I'd say, like, those bigger joy moments.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I love to look at my calendar.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Before I filled it with as many calls and all of the things as I can, and say, okay, how can I plan moments of connection of things that fill my cup, like I love singing and dancing, and if I were to fill my calendar with everything else, there's like no time at the end for the things that really fill my cup that I love to do.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I started up like a few years ago, it's been okay.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, a lot of them, they're just like recurring.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: So they're just like in my Google calendar.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I know I go to choir at this time.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I know I have like, you know, dinner with my friends, this day of the week right here.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: And like, there's, you don't really move things unless it's like, you know, you're absolutely necessary.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that keeps my cup consistently filled.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm making sure, hey, there is time for me to have connection with other people.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Because I spend a lot of my time, like, you know, not with human space to face right now.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: human connection to the things that we love to do or explore new things too.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's also something that I try to schedule in at least once a week.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like, okay, I knew networking thing or like, can I have coffee with someone that I've never met before?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just kind of those little like serendipity moments of, yeah, let them magic in.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: Let's like plan to be open to life surprising us rather than it just being like, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_03]: I love.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm a big fan.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_03]: I have like this whole way of like having your ideal dream schedule and like to me dreams do come true and ideal.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, it's perfect.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: It just is the ideal thing.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I always talk about like how you're sleep and your workouts have to go in the calendar before anything else.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: And the things that bring you joy.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_03]: They have to be in there because you're right.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_03]: If we put everything else in first, there's no where you can't squeeze joy in it has to, you know what I mean.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_03]: So I think your big joy camps, the things that truly like fill your cup whether it is going to choir or go like some people want to go to the library.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_03]: They love the smell of books.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: that you might have to schedule in and like make sure it's there so you're not going, oh my guys, spend three months since I went to a library.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: No, that should, if it brings you joy, it should be happening so regularly so that you can actually get through all the shit because there's going to be shit.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely, because I think that we don't realize that being joyful, it's like rocket fuel in our tank.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think we all know that our head can call on a
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: Just the radiant, and it was effortless to create and be inspired.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: And not that we have to be a felt like peak state all the time.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's we still either we flow.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: But if we consistently are filling our cup, then it's going to actually help us be more efficient, really in the rest of our life.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think a lot of people, though, I interviewed gay Hendricks on this pod and he is whole thing as people have like, you know, you're in your genius out.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_03]: And when getting your genius out, your genius, you end up often upper limiting because you're uncomfortable.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like you have a joyful moment and then you like kind of self-sabotage.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: How how how how how do we handle that pendulum swinging back and forth how do you because we have to fill our feelings and we got to go through there, but how did you kind of allow yourself to just be in the joy or did was that something that you did you have herself to have a touch out of the joy I feel that's what a lot of the listeners struggle with is Well experiencing something joyful and then they'll get a call that their friend got fired or this bill came in and like they it just sucks them right back down and so it's how do you feel the feelings but not lose the joy
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: I definitely have like a PhD in Penduluming from one side to the other side, and they didn't even know.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_03]: They made up the degree for me.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: They were like, yeah, yeah, it is Amy.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you got the idea.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_03]: I did get into the world.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think the world, I did get into the world, and we're Penduluming between the two extremes so much.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that was also like a gift to learn how to stop Penduluming and like continuously Pendulum back towards the joy to like a balanced state in the middle.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: And life still gives life to you.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's not the whole thing with joy is that is like, hmm, yeah, nothing ever happens to me.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: But when it does, I personally have a really deep belief.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Now that I think really helps me is like, you know, like, don't take things personally.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: Life is happening for me, not to me.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: And all of these things that have been so ingrained into who I am at this point,
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: that when life starts to get lifey and I also had seen life, you know, fall apart so many times that I know it always works out.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like if it isn't worked out yet, I just keep going and eventually things will come back together.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I've noticed I've become a lot less dramatic.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: I was a very dramatic human.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, oh my god, like the lost friend and all that, you know, whatever it might be was just always felt like the end of the world to me and it would suck all of the joy out of me.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: and I think I'm realizing, wow, those things are real and I do feel them deeply and I'm like a big cryer and I feel the things and I process them.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, what does this hear to teach me?
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: How do I move through this?
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: How do I regulate my nervous system through this?
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: And realizing, wow,
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: I have this one wild and precious life and I'm going to continue to choose the joy when it feels time.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think a big part of that is also discernment.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's like gaining that wisdom of discernment that only we can have for ourselves.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: Only we can say I know that I'm done feeling this grief, you know, because or whatever it might be anger, fear, and it's time to shift myself into a different state.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: no one else can really tell you when it's time for that.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's also just a trial and everything and learning to listen to the wisdom of our body in our intuition and our self and to trust ourselves to say, actually, I need to be sad right now and that's okay because I trust myself in that and maybe, and I also say,
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: That day is like, I'm having a bad day, I'm having a bad moment because then that leaves the next moment to be open to being something different because if we have like the whole label on this day, then you've like kind of already pre-decided and it's okay to like not have a joyful moment.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if you've been experienced, yeah, I agree.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, people, you're going to have a loved one pass away or a break up is going to happen or you are going to be disappointed at how a project went.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_03]: But I do like that you get to label the moment, but not the whole day or label, giving yourself that permission to feel that moment, but not what it, you know, take away from the little miracles you could see or doing the feelings around it.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_03]: And you said it, not being so dramatic.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_03]: And I think as somewhat ADHD and I attract a lot of people with that, what I have discovered is I think that drama that some of us kind of go to that swinging back and forth and my team is like why are you swinging back and forth from your microphone stay there.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: But that swinging back and forth is a dopamine hit, right?
- 32:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like we go dramatic and high because it kind of deals the thing that our brains survive off of.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_03]: But if we can actually get our dopamine hits from some other places, then we don't have to go such a deep swing.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: It could be like, whoa, this moment really sucks.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good thing that's not personal.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's not about me.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: And somehow this is going to happen.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_03]: This is going to work towards my favorite.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm disappointed in this moment.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to go walk around the block and feel that disappointment and then hopefully by the, you know, I think that that you just gave me some great ideas.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_03]: And I learned to much by myself.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks Amy.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: I also, but I'm seeing that as well.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: And even there's a big part of
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: of the titration, you know, when you're like, oh, it's a bad moment.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: And like, just having that moment of, oh, like, even if I'm like having the most of the day was bad, but like, you had like, oh, they're all just a bunch of bad moments.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then I had like one moment with a friend right last like five minutes.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then I like kind of sunk back down into it.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: But that like little uplifting moment does so much for your capacity in your nervous system to continue to hold whatever it is that you're holding that I don't think we really
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: Recognize to the fullness of it sometimes.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_03]: I could talk to you forever, but do I because this is just the most contagious breathing thanks for spreading here.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_03]: But we're going to take a brief break and we're going to find out we can get your book.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you've got some good beat action as far as I just have a feeling.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, you can get the book 100 Ways to Spread Joy.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's on Amazon, Amy Dickens.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: You can see, you know, like, all the rainbow color on the phone on it, everything.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: Everything I make has a disco ball always.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: I did it on accident and we have met like, we must be friends with another baby.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's me.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like so into a disco balls.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's unbelievable.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're great.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: When the light hits a disco ball, I mean, big is light hat.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Amy.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_03]: I have a Seekin' Camino.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: And you'll have to go go one.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: And just so you know, I bought it off it.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, this is kind of ridiculous.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_03]: It is so ridiculous.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: I did a whole photo shoot with it.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_03]: But I didn't even write, I got it in my car.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like I bought it at the store, put it on to drive home because I'm gonna wear it right now.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_03]: I was my own disco ball in the car because of so much fun.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I was blinding myself, I was like, oh my god, this is so hard to take into account the cause next year.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, I can't see.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_03]: Anyways, I got you off.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_03]: Everything you create is a disco ball.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: So your book is where again, just in case I distracted people with my disability.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: Amazon.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: Easy peasy.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_03]: Just go to Amazon.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_03]: You can find it there.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: Perfect.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: And then where do you hang on on socials where like where can they get a little joy boost?
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: You can find me on all the socials at the Amy Dickens.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: If you want the first 10 pages to my book, you can get it for free on my website, livejoyfolio.com and get a little nice little taste of it and you're like, I like that.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, do a little bit more than you're totally welcome to do that.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, my goodness you guys, I'm sure that's at least a hundred one days left in the year.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe more by the time you hear this, you could like do one joyful spreading thing a day and see how you end up feeling.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: I imagine you'll feel more joy after you're spreading joy.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's like one of the secrets to life is spreading joy in like
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: just being a service to making the world a better place.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's a huge life hack.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I love that.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, you give in to some great tips already.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, your book probably has some great but executable intrinsic or target set people can take.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: But what else do you have for us?
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say to give yourself permission to follow your joy whenever big or little ways that might be.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: And like to like yourself, just kind of like be brutally honest.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like if I had no fear, what would that look like?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: And just like journal it out, be take a deep breath, be honest with yourself, write it all down.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then maybe like say, okay, today.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: What would I feel like if I was 5% more alive right now?
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like what would I do?
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like what what could that be?
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: And allow yourself to do that.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have to be like I rewrite my whole story and I throw away all the things that are not working right now.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: But allow yourself to just take that little reframe of can I put like 5% more of my time and energy into my joy?
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: What would that look like?
- 36:58[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's different for every single one of us.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like something that brings joy to one person might not be the same thing for me or you or somebody else.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just so important because it's not something that you need to earn.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's something that you practice and it continues to give.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: Back to you and like you know, I think some of us are waiting for joy to knock on our door.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's a choice.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: We have to like cultivate it and and learn that yes, sometimes it does like surprises us and say like, I am here, but we can, it's a practice it's a skill that we can learn to cultivate and this is like
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: I love that you are right a lot of people are waiting for joy to hit them on the head as opposed to like actually No joy is waiting for you to come to where it's at like it's kind of waiting for you.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_03]: You got to you got to come to it Like you got to go seek it out you got to go find the joyful moments.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you're so good It's so great.
