  when I teach anybody about songwriting, I go, there's three

  things I want to talk about.

  It's melody, it's lyric, and it's revelation.

  And I intentionally speak on revelation third, because,

  of course, if we're writing a worship song, we have to dig deep.

  We have to, bring revelation to it.

  We have to bring something that's true.
• 0:20
  We have to bring something that's honest.

  But if I'm being completely honest, I can think back to that early point of Young

  and Free, and, and we got criticized.

  pretty deeply that our lyrics were shallow and this and that and i'm like

  we were like i was the oldest at 22 years old when we started you know

  like oh like you can solve these guys these guys haven't figured out life i'm

  the theology?

  where's the deep where's the yeah you know anyway like where's the deep

  dive here the revelation we had was that we loved jesus and I think if
• 0:56
  you listen to that music, you put on that first record, you would hear a
• 0:59
  record of people that just love Jesus and wanted to tell him about it.

  You don't need to wait until you figured it all out.

  Work hard at your craft, work at figuring out melody and rhyme
• 1:10
  scheme and expand your vocabulary.

  Work hard at melodies and dig deep into the word.

  Even a non worship songwriter, they still require revelation.

  A country song still requires experience.
• 1:26
  A country song still requires, man, like, that's relatable.

  You've lived something.
• 1:32
  Somebody in that writing room lived something that I relate to.

  But all that to say is, come to God with a willing heart.

  From day one and he'll use it.

  I am a living testimony of that.

  Don't wait to get it all figured out.

  worship music.

  Needs to move from just becoming sort of a vehicle of entertainment.

  And I understand music is fun, whatever, but it needs to give voice to people as

  they're encountering the presence of God.

  Like it should empower the church to rise up and to live for Jesus and

  to step into their destiny, to step into their calling and not just be.
