- 0:00Oh God. Oh my God.
- 0:12Yes, squeaky bench time.
- 0:15There is a chair if you want it.
- 0:16No, it's way too late for that.
- 0:18All right. You've sat.
- 0:20I have sat. All right.
- 0:21I am in permanent residence.
- 0:25How you feeling tonight, Nick?
- 0:27Oh, I feel pretty good.
- 0:28It's a it's a nice, shiny Tuesday evening.
- 0:31On a scale of zero percent to 100 percent sex.
- 0:34Where are we at?
- 0:35Oh, well, I started this night at 100 percent sex,
- 0:38but here you've brought me down to 50 percent sex.
- 0:41Yeah, that is not OK.
- 0:43Because I suggested you switch chairs.
- 0:46Yeah. Yeah.
- 0:47And everybody knows I never switch seats.
- 0:50It's true. Never never go to a second seat.
- 0:52Nope. Well, I just don't take orders from anybody.
- 0:55It's fair. Yeah, I don't either.
- 0:58And that's why we're here without Peter.
- 1:00Yeah. Suck it, Peter.
- 1:03I don't know why he's always complaining about this.
- 1:04This job seems easy.
- 1:05Yeah. I mean, we figured it out.
- 1:07Yeah. Barely needed his help at all.
- 1:08No, it only took 40 minutes.
- 1:11Yeah. Which is about as much time as it would take if Peter set up for a guest.
- 1:17We love you shots fired. Yeah.
- 1:20And at this audio, bitch, he has our he has the intellectual rights
- 1:24to our faces. This is bad.
- 1:28I'm pretty sure I'm just an AI generated like
- 1:32overweight North American.
- 1:33There's a lot of people who do look like you. Yeah.
- 1:36Sucks to be them.
- 1:38I mean, Nick Cage in this movie kind of looks a little bit like Skinny You.
- 1:43Yeah, I guess kind of.
- 1:44And Joel Kinnaman also kind of looks like Skinny You in this movie.
- 1:48And wait, are you just saying that because they're all white?
- 1:50Yes. Yeah. OK. That's what I figured.
- 1:53So we just watched Sympathy for the Devil. Uh huh.
- 1:56Oh, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sean.
- 1:58You're my co host, Nick.
- 2:00Oh, man, that was like nearly a segue.
- 2:02And you just blew past it.
- 2:05I know what I'm doing. Good at this.
- 2:09This is a very special episode of Cage Magical,
- 2:12one around about meeting Nicolas Cage, where we take 64 Nicolas Cage
- 2:16movies and face him off until we find out what Nicholas Cage's best film is.
- 2:21But he just put out a new one.
- 2:22So we're going to talk about that for about 15 minutes.
- 2:24But then that's it.
- 2:26Yeah. Nothing really exciting.
- 2:28I don't know what you're talking about. That movie was great.
- 2:30OK. No spoilers then. How about that? That's fine.
- 2:34We're not going to tell you anything about the movie.
- 2:36We're just going to tell you that Nicolas Cage had red hair
- 2:39that matched his red jacket.
- 2:41Yeah, it was a sick red jacket, a crime jacket even.
- 2:44Oh, he does have a crime jacket.
- 2:45This also takes place in Vegas.
- 2:46So part of the Vegas quadrilogy at this point.
- 2:48Yeah. Of films we've reviewed that Nicolas Cage is filmed in Vegas.
- 2:52That was part of and so Kinnaman has a sick goatee.
- 2:57Yeah. Well, he really looks like a dirty dad.
- 3:00He is a dirty. He is kind of a dirty dad.
- 3:02Yeah. Joel Kinnaman's wife is giving birth when the cage takes him hostage
- 3:05on a little ride about through the Arizona
- 3:09interstate way system. Yeah.
- 3:12A tour of the it would be Nevada, Nevada.
- 3:15That's right. High jinks may or may not have ensued.
- 3:17Mm hmm. They do.
- 3:19That's the only reason why you would continue to watch a movie.
- 3:22Yeah. If people drove with no hijinks, that'd be weird.
- 3:26Maybe Joel Kinnaman has a past.
- 3:30Nick Cage seems to think so.
- 3:31Yeah. So the premise is Nick Cage picks up Joel Kinnaman.
- 3:36Well, yeah.
- 3:38When Joel Kinnaman arrives at the hospital, Nick Cage gets in the car
- 3:43under the assumption that Joel Kinnaman is this person
- 3:46that did him dirty once upon a time in Boston.
- 3:51Nick Cage, obviously sporting a very sick Boston accent.
- 3:55He finally got it.
- 3:56One of his strongest like he's used it for every other regional like
- 4:02regionality. And now it's finally, finally time to be from Boston.
- 4:07He got it. You did it, buddy.
- 4:09Somebody out there is just writing a movie for that.
- 4:12They're like, oh, man, Nick Cage does such a sick Boston accent.
- 4:16I'm going to write a movie just for him to do it.
- 4:19And it works. I loved it. It worked great.
- 4:21I am bummed this didn't get a wide release because it truly is
- 4:25a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.
- 4:28Yeah. I can also see why it was real enjoyable.
- 4:31Didn't get a wide release because it is niche. Yes.
- 4:35Yeah. I don't know what the budget was on this, but
- 4:40I mean, it's mainly two guys in a car,
- 4:44very few location sets, very small cast,
- 4:49but really kind of dialed in good performances from both
- 4:53Joel Kinnaman and Nicholas Cage.
- 4:56And I could not take my eyes off Cage this whole movie.
- 4:58It wasn't just because of the bright red hair.
- 5:00No, his performance in this was outstanding.
- 5:03Oh, yeah. He was dialed in.
- 5:04I mean, especially coming right off watching Ghost Rider
- 5:07Spirit of Vengeance.
- 5:08Like, oh, yeah, you're an actor. Yeah.
- 5:12And he man, he gets wild in this.
- 5:14If you like a wild Nick Cage, this is a good good movie.
- 5:17Yeah. Just really let him settle into it.
- 5:22Even like up until his very last minutes, like is like the movie
- 5:27concludes with just crazy ass Nick Cage. Yeah.
- 5:32It's a ride. Yeah. No.
- 5:34I mean, not to spoil the ending, I will say the last five minutes
- 5:37of this film are probably the weakest.
- 5:40It's not it's not a twist, but something comes out
- 5:43that I don't think served the larger narrative of the film.
- 5:47Yeah. The last five minutes of script are just kind of weak.
- 5:50Yeah. So it could have been a tighter ending.
- 5:53But you know what? The movie we got is still good.
- 5:56That's my only critique of the film.
- 5:58The rest of it, I enjoyed start to finish.
- 6:00I mean, I'm inclined to agree it had a really good run.
- 6:05The intensity is like just up there through the whole movie.
- 6:09Good, good drive.
- 6:11It never feels like it slows down.
- 6:13Now, even in the moments when they're not like
- 6:16actively moving in the car, but like you hit like a location set
- 6:21or some hang up in the story, the tension continues to build the whole time.
- 6:26Yeah. Nicholas Cage sings a little song.
- 6:28And you never know what's going to happen.
- 6:30Oh, it's it's a good movie.
- 6:33Yeah, I'm looking forward to watching this again, probably this week
- 6:38with Josie, because I'm sure she'll want to see it as well.
- 6:41Yeah. Peter, check this one out.
- 6:43I think you'll really like it.
- 6:45There we go. Recommending it to our significant others.
- 6:48So I love Peter's wife.
- 6:53I love that baby.
- 6:54But, you know, that everyone sells would be would be such a cute couple.
- 7:01You finally got what you wanted, Peter.
- 7:02We we recorded a tight episode.
- 7:07Hmm. Mouth noises.
- 7:14So where are we? Where are we putting this on the bracket?
- 7:17I mean, I'm inclined to say good, good.
- 7:19I go good, good on this.
- 7:21I'm all for good. Good. This was a great movie.
- 7:23Good Nicholas Cage performance, wild Nicholas Cage performance
- 7:26and wild Nicholas Cage performance while not being like over the top. No,
- 7:32but he definitely exists on his own level in this movie.
- 7:35Like he's a different energy than Joel Kinnaman's character.
- 7:40Oh, 100 percent.
- 7:41But it's not in such a way that it breaks the reality of the situation.
- 7:46It doesn't lessen the tension at all.
- 7:49No. Good movie, though.
- 7:51I'd watch it again. I highly recommend it. Yeah.
- 7:53This I mean, at least, you know, even the Renfield had some, you know,
- 7:57stuff we could kind of critique, and I don't really have much to critique
- 7:59about this one.
- 8:01No, not without really diving into something that could
- 8:05give away elements of the story.
- 8:07And this one, just being a thriller and the whole nature of the like
- 8:13identities.
- 8:14I mean, we could do a spoiler warning right now and be like, stop listening
- 8:17if you want to watch this movie and then talk about the ending.
- 8:19Yeah, yeah. All right.
- 8:23Watch the film. It's good.
- 8:24Yeah. Try that out. Yeah.
- 8:27Try that for once. Yeah.
- 8:28Watch the movies that we tell you to watch.
- 8:31We usually warn you against movies.
- 8:33That's not true. Watch them all suffer with us.
- 8:36Suffer in silence.
- 8:37Yell at your neighbor, suffer in silence while yelling at your neighbor.
- 8:41Hey, Nick, you know, felt 100 percent sex today.
- 8:44Who's that? Me.
- 8:46You know why? Tell me.
- 8:47Old black guy bought me a beer.
- 8:50Nick and I were at the bar before we watched the movie.
- 8:52And this gentleman was talking at Nick for about 20 minutes.
- 8:56I finished my beer and I was going to leave.
- 8:58It was about the whole hour that I was there, actually. Yeah.
- 9:01But yeah, I'm getting ready to leave.
- 9:04And old black guy just goes, buy her another beer.
- 9:08And we're all looking around because it's just us.
- 9:11Only dudes in the bar. Only dudes in the bar.
- 9:14Just talk about me. I felt pretty.
- 9:16I got a beer out of it.
- 9:18But he did reiterate.
- 9:19He was like, yeah, that one, the lady by the lady.
- 9:22I'm buying the lady a beer.
- 9:23Yeah, it's pretty fucking great.
- 9:25Yeah. We'll take it.
- 9:27Yeah. Thanks, Harold.
- 9:29I don't think he listens.
- 9:30So he's 73 years old.
- 9:33I don't think he doesn't look past 68.
- 9:35No, not a day past 68.
