- 0:21Baylee: Hello, everyone.
- 0:22Baylee: Welcome back to this week's episode of Mocktail Minutes.
- 0:25Baylee: This is Bailey
- 0:26Brianna: And this is Brianna
- 0:27Baylee: This week we are talking about some wellness trends.
- 0:30Baylee: We've done some episodes like this before, but we're gonna talk about, um, ones that are, we're seeing pop up again.
- 0:36Baylee: Oh, our I am drinking, it's a Pops prebiotic sweet tea.
- 0:43Baylee: I don't know if I'm gonna finish it, and I think it's a me thing.
- 0:47Baylee: It's not terrible.
- 0:48Baylee: There's five grams of added sugar, but...
- 0:51Baylee: And then they have stevia in it, too.
- 0:53Baylee: Just having carbonated tea, something about it, it's just not sitting well on my belly
- 0:58Brianna: Yeah.
- 0:59Brianna: What are those wines that I had for a while?
- 1:02Brianna: I got them from Costco.
- 1:04Brianna: They're like Tru-
- 1:06Baylee: Um, Is
- 1:06Brianna: Whatever.
- 1:07Brianna: They're like carbonated teas as well.
- 1:09Brianna: They have one that aren't teas and they're carbonated teas.
- 1:11Brianna: Like, I couldn't finish them.
- 1:12Brianna: Like, it actually did hurt my stomach.
- 1:13Baylee: I don't know what It
- 1:14Brianna: It was weird.
- 1:14Baylee: it, but I also have my
- 1:16Brianna: Yeah
- 1:16Baylee: so we'll probably use that instead.
- 1:20Brianna: sale and my kids are outside a lot, so I did the Liquid IV, the ring pop flavor, but the zero sugar one It doesn't taste like a Ring Pop.
- 1:30Brianna: It tastes fine, but it doesn't taste like a Ring Pop.
- 1:31Brianna: I think the Bomb Pop was better.
- 1:33Brianna: And then I added this little, like, Sunfiber packet.
- 1:36Brianna: I forgot I had these.
- 1:38Brianna: They're so good for traveling.
- 1:39Brianna: But this is the type of fiber...
- 1:41Brianna: I won't get into it, but it doesn't make you, like, super bloated
- 1:44Baylee: Hmm.
- 1:45Brianna: So I feel like it's just an easy way, like, if you're traveling and you need it.
- 1:48Brianna: And this Sunfiber is, like, completely tasteless and mixed.
- 1:51Brianna: It doesn't get clumpy, so you can literally add it to water.
- 1:54Brianna: Mm-hmm
- 1:55Baylee: Yeah, a lot of them do get all clumpy and thick, and it's like, ugh, it's just
- 2:00Brianna: Yeah.
- 2:00Brianna: And then you get like, yeah.
- 2:04Brianna: So no, but we like it.
- 2:06Baylee: So we're gonna be talking about, I think we have about, like, 10 or 11 things we wanna go over.
- 2:11Baylee: So let's just dive into it.
- 2:14Baylee: One of'em that I've seen people doing, and this is kind of an old one, is the dry scooping of pre-workout.
- 2:21Baylee: So if you don't know what that is, dry scooping is you're just taking your pre-workout powder and just putting it directly into your mouth.
- 2:27Baylee: Like, You're not mixing it with water, and then you're just kind of,
- 2:29Brianna: Yeah
- 2:30Baylee: it down.
- 2:31Baylee: A lot of times people do it because feeling like it would get to their system faster or just have, like, a better energy boost.
- 2:38Baylee: Thinking, like, If you don't dilute it with water, it'll absorb faster.
- 2:43Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 2:44Baylee: I wouldn't say that's necessarily how digestion works.
- 2:46Baylee: Everything you swallow is gonna end up in your stomach, and your stomach is going to immediately mix that powder with stomach acid and liquid before it goes to your intestines where it's actually absorbed.
- 2:57Baylee: So
- 2:58Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 2:58Baylee: you mix pre-workout with 12 ounces of water or you dry scoop it, your body's gonna process it in the same way.
- 3:06Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 3:07Baylee: only thing happening faster is you're swallowing a concentrated amount all the things at once.
- 3:13Baylee: And so I don't really see any performance advantage to dry scooping.
- 3:18Baylee: Just mix it with water.
- 3:20Baylee: You're not gonna choke.
- 3:21Baylee: You're not Like, that's kind of my bane to serve with dry scooping.
- 3:24Baylee: I'm like, feel like I'm
- 3:26Brianna: choking.
- 3:27Brianna: It's literally I have done this before way long, way long time ago.
- 3:31Brianna: Literally Took me out in my car.
- 3:32Brianna: Like, no, I don't see the point of it.
- 3:36Brianna: Also, that's how you get, like, a horrible stomachache, I feel like
- 3:39Baylee: like, it messes with your esophagus too
- 3:42Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 3:42Brianna: Yeah, you're supposed to dilute that.
- 3:44Brianna: Don't...
- 3:45Brianna: We're not dry scooping.
- 3:46Baylee: scoop it.
- 3:46Baylee: I don't know why it's becoming popular again, but you don't need to dry scoop pre-workout.
- 3:50Baylee: Um, Oh, and we had talked about the Just Ingredients pre-workout on another episode.
- 3:54Baylee: It does have the beta alanine in it, and it does give you that little itchiness to it, or at least the one that I tried.
- 4:00Brianna: Oh.
- 4:00Baylee: terrible though.
- 4:01Baylee: Like, it previously it made wanna, like, crawl out of my skin, like, throw up type of feeling.
- 4:05Baylee: one
- 4:06Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 4:06Baylee: Like, You knew you were tingly, but
- 4:09Brianna: just like less.
- 4:10Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 4:11Baylee: Well, I think too,
- 4:11Brianna: Yeah
- 4:12Baylee: have all the artificial sweeteners in it as well that most
- 4:15Brianna: Yeah.
- 4:16Brianna: Yeah.
- 4:16Brianna: I know, I still need to try it.
- 4:18Brianna: I'm gonna try it.
- 4:19Brianna: The next one, we'll just kinda like jump around.
- 4:21Brianna: I would say CGMs, they're debatable, like the continuous glucose monitors.
- 4:26Brianna: I have seen some people be really for it, some people are like,"If you don't have diabetes, you don't need it." I'm kind of like The more you know, right?
- 4:35Brianna: And we work with a lot of people who have like weight loss resistance or insulin resistance, they're so helpful for that.
- 4:40Brianna: But I would say if you're using it, know what you're actually looking at, and the goal isn't to like flatline your glucose all day.
- 4:48Brianna: Like, that's one way to just kind of like increase your body stress, tank your thyroid.
- 4:53Brianna: Like, we're not trying to flatline our glucose all day, but knowing what foods impact you, the amounts of it, like what the heck is your blood sugar doing throughout the day?
- 5:03Brianna: I'm for it, but I've seen a couple people be like very against it, so I was like,"Mm..."
- 5:08Baylee: Yeah, I think a
- 5:09Brianna: I guess it just depends on who you work with
- 5:11Baylee: and I think just knowing what you're looking for because
- 5:14Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 5:15Baylee: it can be very confusing if you don't know where your blood sugar should be or how it should react.
- 5:21Baylee: So I think if you're not sure, I don't think it's a bad resource.
- 5:25Baylee: The mo- like you said, like, the more you know.
- 5:28Baylee: It
- 5:28Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 5:29Baylee: more data you can And I think that can kind of go along with electrolytes.
- 5:34Baylee: That is something that people are like,"Yeah, I do." We're like,"No, not everyone needs electrolytes." Could you survive without doing electrolyte drink?
- 5:41Baylee: Sure.
- 5:42Baylee: But I
- 5:43Brianna: Yeah
- 5:43Baylee: find many people benefit from at least one electrolyte drink a day.
- 5:47Baylee: Most
- 5:48Brianna: Yeah
- 5:48Baylee: some imbalances, but they are gonna truly support hydration, so that way you're actually pulling water into your cells.
- 5:56Baylee: It can help, like, your muscles function a little bit better.
- 5:59Baylee: It helps with your and your heart function.
- 6:02Baylee: It can help, like, with your endurance, especially, like, if you're
- 6:06Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 6:07Brianna: Yeah
- 6:07Baylee: gonna be helpful during illness.
- 6:08Baylee: Like, everyone talks about it.
- 6:10Baylee: But I would say they're not necessarily harmful, but you also need to be aware of how much you're doing.
- 6:19Baylee: So it can be a little bit individualized, but I would say in
- 6:23Brianna: Yeah
- 6:24Baylee: most people do fine on a basic electrolyte.
- 6:27Baylee: With that being said, most people don't need the 1,000 milligrams of sodium from
- 6:33Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 6:34Brianna: Mm-hmm
- 6:34Baylee: Some people do.
- 6:35Baylee: Some people do and feel great.
- 6:36Baylee: I am a person, I don't do on LMNT.
- 6:40Baylee: I, I feel absolutely awful.
- 6:42Baylee: But I also need more potassium, and I've known that
- 6:45Brianna: Yeah, me too.
- 6:46Baylee: test.
- 6:46Baylee: I don't really need more
- 6:47Brianna: Mm-hmm Yeah, mine too.
- 6:50Brianna: What is up with that?
- 6:51Brianna: But yes, 100%.
- 6:53Brianna: They're not all created the same.
- 6:55Brianna: There are some that are much higher in sodium, and yeah, if you're eating a lot of processed foods or you go out to eat a lot or you cook a lot, yeah, you probably need more potassium than salt.
- 7:04Brianna: But there's been a few-- Sometimes I wonder, I'm like, I know our algorithms are so different compared to like the n- people who are not dieticians,
- 7:12Baylee: Yeah
- 7:13Brianna: but I have seen like people, like hot debates.
- 7:17Brianna: Like,"You don't need this.
- 7:18Brianna: It's a waste of money." Like, it's not a waste of money.
- 7:21Brianna: Also, if it gets people to drink more water, like I know for a lot of my clients, drinking water is hard.
- 7:26Brianna: If you can drink something that's flavored and gives you some minerals, okay, do it.
- 7:31Brianna: Like, you're not gonna hurt yourself.
- 7:32Brianna: But yeah, LMNT, I only do well with it if I'm outside a lot and it's really hot and it's the middle of summer, but I always have to mix it with like a really high potassium one.
- 7:40Brianna: So they're expensive too.
- 7:43Brianna: So I'm not against it.
- 7:45Brianna: I like it.
- 7:45Brianna: But yeah, very individualized, and this is where working with someone can really help you, especially if you've done an HMA.
- 7:50Brianna: But someone was so upset at Who is, who is that, like?
- 7:56Brianna: She's a lady.
- 7:57Brianna: She's really into working out.
- 7:58Brianna: She does a lot of research.
- 7:59Brianna: I'm stroking out right now.
- 8:01Brianna: What is her name?
- 8:02Brianna: She's really big on, like, anyways, women lifting, not doing, like, a ton of, like, really intense HIIT cardio.
- 8:08Brianna: She does a lot of research, and she was saying on a podcast the other day, she was saying how, like, in order to probably be hydrated, you need minerals.
- 8:16Brianna: And s- people were, like, also researchers big in the industry were, like, dragging her, being like,"Oh, she's making it more complicated." I'm like,
- 8:24Baylee: It's not that
- 8:25Brianna: "Or we're just fighting, we're just fighting about weird stuff now." Like,
- 8:28Baylee: It's
- 8:29Brianna: not wrong.
- 8:30Brianna: You're not wrong.
- 8:31Brianna: It's...
- 8:31Baylee: And it's not
- 8:32Brianna: I'm drinking a lot today
- 8:34Baylee: a pinch of salt or to
- 8:36Brianna: Yeah.
- 8:36Baylee: a pinch of cream of tartar.
- 8:37Baylee: Like, you can also make electrolyte drinks at home.
- 8:40Baylee: talked about
- 8:41Brianna: Yeah.
- 8:41Brianna: you don't need
- 8:42Baylee: episode of the summer mocktails.
- 8:44Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 8:44Baylee: it's not complicated.
- 8:45Baylee: We just like to...
- 8:46Baylee: People like to call out people saying they're wrong because it gets them views, and it's just like who
- 8:51Brianna: Yes.
- 8:53Baylee: And
- 8:53Brianna: 100%.
- 8:54Baylee: Oh, this person's wrong," then people get curious.
- 8:58Brianna: Oh, it was Dr.
- 8:58Brianna: Stacy Sims
- 8:59Baylee: Oh, I do like her
- 9:01Brianna: I do too.
- 9:01Brianna: And the guy, I won't mention him.
- 9:04Brianna: I have such a neh.
- 9:05Brianna: I don't like him'cause he's just so, like, that's what he does.
- 9:07Brianna: Like, his whole content is dragging people and being like,"I know stuff better." Neh.
- 9:12Brianna: Okay.
- 9:13Brianna: Next one.
- 9:13Brianna: Let's do fiber maxing.
- 9:16Baylee: Yes.
- 9:16Baylee: We
- 9:16Brianna: this is the year.
- 9:18Baylee: one
- 9:18Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 9:19Brianna: Yeah, and this is the trend I think for the next coming years is fiber.
- 9:22Brianna: Like protein, she had her moment.
- 9:24Brianna: She's still having her moment, but yeah.
- 9:26Brianna: I know, right?
- 9:27Brianna: And of course, like we all do, we wanna take it to the max.
- 9:30Brianna: Here's the thing, is there's no...
- 9:32Brianna: The recommended amount is, like, 25 to 30 for men, women, depending on your size, all that.
- 9:40Brianna: We know that's kind of like the low end.
- 9:42Brianna: Like, you can't really overdo it with fiber unless you haven't worked up to a certain amount.
- 9:47Brianna: Like, yeah, if you go from 17 grams to 70, you're gonna feel horrible.
- 9:51Brianna: Don't do it.
- 9:52Brianna: But we know that that 25 to 30 that most people are not even reaching is, like, a bare minimum.
- 9:58Brianna: So I like this trend.
- 10:02Brianna: I think you need to work up, and I obviously think, you know, the more whole foods the better.
- 10:06Brianna: But really I think fiber maxing is finally having a moment'cause I think people are starting to be less scared of carbs and realizing, like, oh my gosh,
- 10:14Baylee: I actually
- 10:14Brianna: it's so hard to get in your fiber if you don't eat carbs.
- 10:18Brianna: And yeah, oh my gosh, I feel so much better.
- 10:20Brianna: And yeah, fiber is connected to, like, every sort of, like, disease state.
- 10:25Brianna: Pretty much any of them, unless you have, like, severe GI issues, which I would debate having low fiber might have caused those, Fiber helps
- 10:33Baylee: But just like with anything, like, you still need to eat your protein.
- 10:37Baylee: I
- 10:37Brianna: Right.
- 10:37Brianna: Yeah, you still need your fats, you still need your protein
- 10:40Baylee: Yes.
- 10:40Baylee: Get all the things in.
- 10:41Baylee: But yeah, I think it is time to let's also focus a little bit more on how much fiber we're doing.
- 10:46Baylee: Most people, they first start logging, it's like 10 grams, 10
- 10:50Brianna: Yeah.
- 10:50Baylee: should be a minimum.
- 10:52Baylee: Other thing, next one I would say functional, like mushroom coffees.
- 10:57Baylee: I think they've been getting more popularity.
- 11:00Baylee: I hear a lot of people are switching from, like regular coffee to functional type coffee drinks.
- 11:06Baylee: So, Like the lion's mane r- like turkey tail is another one of'em.
- 11:09Baylee: That one's kinda funny.
- 11:10Baylee: But lion's mane, I would say, is a pretty popular one.
- 11:14Baylee: But these have been used for centuries,
- 11:19Brianna: Yeah
- 11:20Baylee: a lot of the focus around them is because they can help with focus and memory and your immune system, reducing stress, energy, longevity, which is what everyone wants.
- 11:30Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 11:31Baylee: happening, these mushrooms have compounds, and those compounds influence your immune function, inflammation, your nerves, antioxidant activity.
- 11:42Baylee: So, Lion's mane may stimulate, uh, nerve growth factor, NGF, which has sparked interest in the brain health.
- 11:50Baylee: In general, we don't have a lot of great studies on different like supplements or just things like that.
- 11:57Baylee: I would say the mushroom coffee, it's not a bad thing to do, but it's also not a cure-all
- 12:04Brianna: and most of the time they're really expensive, and I think sometimes people think like, like you said, like,"This is the cure-all.
- 12:10Brianna: Like, I'm drinking my coffee." If you like it and you feel better doing it,'cause that's the other thing is some people feel better with like the, you know, brain cognitive stimulation that they get from it that doesn't have the same side effects as caffeine,
- 12:25Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 12:25Baylee: And
- 12:26Brianna: know what you're...
- 12:27Brianna: Yeah.
- 12:28Baylee: what,
- 12:28Brianna: Yeah
- 12:28Baylee: expensive.
- 12:29Baylee: And I think this is where the marketing of being healthy is expensive kinda comes about because we have
- 12:35Brianna: Yeah
- 12:35Baylee: these things.
- 12:36Baylee: I don't drink mushroom coffee, Like we can make budget-friendly and not have to spend a lot.
- 12:42Baylee: Like I said, it's not gonna probably hurt anything.
- 12:45Baylee: It can, it could possibly help, it's also not, like, a foundation that I think you need to have
- 12:50Brianna: That just sparked another like trend that I was thinking about, but I won't add here.
- 12:54Brianna: We should maybe do that another day.
- 12:55Brianna: Let me just keep going.
- 12:56Brianna: The next I would say is like protein everything.
- 12:59Brianna: So again, yes, like there's protein coffee, protein popcorn, there's protein ramen.
- 13:06Brianna: I literally saw Top Ramen, the Cup O' Noodles has a protein one now, which is like, okay, I'm not horribly mad about because they're like 80 grams of carbs and no protein.
- 13:15Brianna: Okay, you could probably put some 10 grams of protein in there, but protein everything.
- 13:21Brianna: And I'm like on the fence with this.
- 13:23Brianna: Like first of all, there's some things that I'm like not necessary to add like protein powder to popcorn.
- 13:29Brianna: Like you could probably just have some sort of like nuts or something with popcorn if you wanted to add protein to it
- 13:35Baylee: I do do that though.
- 13:36Baylee: I add
- 13:37Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 13:37Brianna: Yeah
- 13:38Baylee: because, like, My fat is very easy to hit.
- 13:42Baylee: I struggle more with carbs, but I know I need to balance
- 13:46Brianna: is it the Just Ingredients shaker one?
- 13:48Baylee: No, like
- 13:49Brianna: Which one am I thinking about?
- 13:50Baylee: powder on it.
- 13:51Baylee: So like d-
- 13:52Brianna: Oh, so you make it, like, sweet.
- 13:54Baylee: It's like a sweeter
- 13:55Brianna: Okay
- 13:56Baylee: And so I'll do that to get my carbs in, but I also know I need to balance it, so I'll do the protein.
- 14:01Baylee: But I think, too, it's just becoming highly highly processed
- 14:05Brianna: Yeah.
- 14:06Brianna: Or people think it's automatically healthier because it's protein, isn't it?
- 14:11Brianna: Right?
- 14:11Brianna: Which I'm like, at the end of the day, you're still buying Pop-Tarts, and you're still buying ramen, or you're still buying pretzels, which not that any of those are necessarily bad, but, like, just because you put protein in it no.
- 14:21Brianna: and that's where I was saying this is where I'm on the fence because the hacks of, like, adding protein to things that you always do, I don't think is necessarily bad.
- 14:29Brianna: Like, people were very upset about the Halo Top ice cream for the longest time.
- 14:33Brianna: I'm not...
- 14:34Brianna: Like, it d- if t- if you like it and you enjoy it and it's a way to kinda help the goal supportive, like, do it.
- 14:40Brianna: But do I think you always need it?
- 14:41Brianna: No.
- 14:42Brianna: Same with protein coffee.
- 14:43Brianna: I just saw a thing before I got on that's like trends that are out, protein coffee.
- 14:48Brianna: Do I think you need protein everything and you need to buy, like, a$12 drink from Starbucks, a protein cold foam?
- 14:53Brianna: No.
- 14:54Brianna: But if it helps you balance out your breakfast a little bit more and helps your blood sugar and you like it, do it.
- 15:01Brianna: You know?
- 15:02Brianna: It doesn't need to be, like, all or nothing.
- 15:05Baylee: and I think that's
- 15:06Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 15:06Baylee: Like, Yeah, if you're having trouble, do that.
- 15:09Baylee: But we also like, if you need to hit your protein goals by eating Halo Top every night, like, let's let's try some
- 15:15Brianna: Right.
- 15:16Baylee: And I think, too, like, there's the drum roll donuts.
- 15:19Baylee: Have you tried those?
- 15:21Brianna: No
- 15:22Baylee: actually aren't bad.
- 15:23Baylee: Um, I was
- 15:23Brianna: Yes, I have.
- 15:25Baylee: They
- 15:25Brianna: Mm-hmm
- 15:27Baylee: I'd rather you do that than, like, a bag of regular donuts.
- 15:31Baylee: It's gonna give you some
- 15:32Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 15:32Baylee: protein versus just straight sugar.
- 15:36Baylee: think they
- 15:36Brianna: Yeah
- 15:37Baylee: in them, too.
- 15:38Baylee: Um, but yeah, I c- I would say it kind of depends.
- 15:40Baylee: I don't think it's a bad thing to have protein in everything, but we also...
- 15:44Baylee: I think my major thing is, like how you said, a lot of times if we see that protein's in it, we just assume that it's healthy,
- 15:51Brianna: just like my toxic trait is going into Trader Joe's and being like,"Everything in here is healthy."
- 15:56Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 15:57Baylee: Yeah, or like Fresh Thyme and then they have a whole aisle of soda.
- 16:00Baylee: I'm like,
- 16:02Brianna: Yeah.
- 16:02Brianna: I'm all,"Tell me you
- 16:02Baylee: weird
- 16:03Brianna: guys are Trader Joe's." And you're like,"Eh." Dang it.
- 16:06Baylee: Yeah,
- 16:06Brianna: so just'cause you see a protein doesn't mean automatically is it probably the better option?
- 16:12Brianna: Yes, but there's probably other things we need to look at if you're, like, getting high-protein cup noodle
- 16:17Baylee: And even like, I think adding protein to desser- desserts, like sometimes I will do that.
- 16:22Baylee: But I
- 16:22Brianna: Yeah
- 16:23Baylee: even adding up.
- 16:24Baylee: Like if you add a scoop of protein powder, you're getting like probably two to three grams per serving,
- 16:30Brianna: Yeah, like if that.
- 16:31Brianna: You know, if you think like I made 12 muffins with one scoop, one scoop has 20 grams of protein.
- 16:38Brianna: Eh, they're not as high as you think
- 16:40Baylee: muffins.
- 16:40Baylee: It's like, okay, you got a little bit more protein.
- 16:42Baylee: I will do it because, if it's a vanilla protein, it gives it some flavor.
- 16:46Baylee: So it's just like a bonus, not muffins.
- 16:50Baylee: They have protein in them, so that's why people call them protein muffins, but I wouldn't count that as your protein source The
- 16:55Brianna: I had to tell someone That
- 16:57Baylee: parasite cleanses.
- 16:58Baylee: that's oddly popular lately.
- 17:01Baylee: lot of influencers, I feel like, just blaming s- all the stomach issues on parasites like fatigue, bloating, acne, the brain fog, weight gain, kind of really focus on herbal cleanses with that.
- 17:14Baylee: Parasites do exist, but they're actually
- 17:16Brianna: Yeah
- 17:17Baylee: uncommon in healthy people living in developed countries without, like all these risk
- 17:23Brianna: Yeah
- 17:23Baylee: True parasites are diagnosed with, like, a stool test, parasite cleanses are gonna contain herbs that stimulate your bowel movements.
- 17:32Baylee: They can irritate your intestines, and they can actually increase diarrhea.
- 17:36Baylee: So many people think they're passing parasites, but often what actually seeing is, like, mucus or, like, undigested
- 17:45Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 17:45Baylee: som- be something like that.
- 17:47Baylee: If someone has tru-
- 17:48Brianna: Yeah
- 17:48Baylee: has a parasite, you would want to be properly diagnosed with targeted treatment,
- 17:53Brianna: And I, this is one where I think it's really hyped up, and th- same with, like, a lot of gut protocols, is people just try to, like, find all these, like...
- 18:02Brianna: It's, you know, your gut is, like, full of parasites.
- 18:04Brianna: That's why, you know.
- 18:05Brianna: Or you need this intense gut protocol, but you don't have foundations, right?
- 18:08Brianna: I, I think the gut is a complicated place, and we probably don't need to be messing with it.
- 18:13Brianna: Like, causing yourself to have, like, diarrhea is only hurting your gut health, and if you have a parasite that's hurting you, you likely know
- 18:21Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 18:22Baylee: Yeah, like you should you should
- 18:23Brianna: Okay
- 18:23Baylee: and you should get professional help, not try to
- 18:27Brianna: Yeah
- 18:27Baylee: a parasite on your own.
- 18:28Baylee: That
- 18:28Brianna: Also terrifying, you know?
- 18:30Brianna: Just like, I don't know.
- 18:31Brianna: No, I don't want, I don't want any of that.
- 18:33Brianna: The next one is, it's a hot...
- 18:35Brianna: I, I feel like a lot of these are really debatable.
- 18:37Brianna: I would say seed oils, being, like, overly obsessed with seed oils.
- 18:42Brianna: Do we know that your ratio of certain omegas can cause inflammation?
- 18:48Brianna: Yes, absolutely.
- 18:49Brianna: We know we're much higher in the omegas that we shouldn't be in, and it is pro-inflammatory.
- 18:53Brianna: However, I think people have missed the plot, and they've gotten really intense on, like, seed oils, and the idea is to be consuming foods that have less seed oils as preservatives,
- 19:05Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 19:06Brianna: one, which is, you know, fast food, processed foods.
- 19:09Brianna: I think focusing more on your variety of fat is more important.
- 19:14Brianna: Like, am I eating saturated fat?
- 19:17Brianna: Am I eating unsaturated fat?
- 19:18Brianna: Am I getting different, you know, omega-3, 6, 9?
- 19:21Brianna: Am I getting a variety of fats is more important than just overly stressing about seed oils.
- 19:29Baylee: Yes,
- 19:29Brianna: Spe- yeah
- 19:30Baylee: Like, you don't have to completely get rid of them.
- 19:33Baylee: It's the reduction and also, coming from?
- 19:35Baylee: So, like, My
- 19:36Brianna: Yes
- 19:36Baylee: that I get, they have sunflower oil in them.
- 19:40Baylee: It's also a high oleic sunflower, so it's less processed.
- 19:44Baylee: So where you're getting it from, what's it kinda combined with, and also, like, how much are you doing?
- 19:50Baylee: We don't have to, like I said, you don't have to completely eliminate'em, just limit them so we have more
- 19:55Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 19:56Baylee: in
- 19:56Brianna: Or add in some of those, like, healthier fats.
- 19:59Brianna: That's what everybody misses is they're, like, super consumed with, like, cutting it out, and like, did you add, did you add fatty fish?
- 20:06Brianna: Did you add walnuts?
- 20:07Brianna: Did you add chia seeds?
- 20:08Brianna: Are you adding those?
- 20:10Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 20:12Brianna: important
- 20:12Baylee: Yes.
- 20:13Baylee: Uh, The next one I would say castor oil in the belly button.
- 20:17Baylee: this kind of claims come from, like, detoxing, improving digestion, balancing your hormones, reduce bloating, just, like, healing your gut.
- 20:25Baylee: the, the idea comes from, like, the belly button being the gateway And the idea is because it's like the body's organs, once connected to, like, the umbilical cord.
- 20:34Baylee: After birth, the umbilical cord is cut and the belly button, it's, like, scar tissue But I will say there's also, like, castor oil over the liver.
- 20:44Baylee: so this is also a practice that been used with a lot of, like, integrative medicine circles for a long
- 20:51Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 20:51Baylee: it, like, on that right upper abdomen where your liver sits with a cloth can improve circulation or, like, stimulate your lymphatic system, kind of your liver detox.
- 21:01Baylee: And part of that is that castor oil contains, fatty acid, and it has some anti-inflammatory properties when applied to the skin.
- 21:09Baylee: And so do...
- 21:12Baylee: I've used castor oil on my liver.
- 21:14Baylee: it's helpful, it's used to support the liver.
- 21:18Baylee: Again, it's not going to fix everything.
- 21:21Baylee: Like, You still have to limit alcohol, eat enough protein, have a good healthy body weight, manage your blood sugar, be physically active.
- 21:30Baylee: Those things are
- 21:30Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 21:31Baylee: really gonna support
- 21:32Brianna: Eating cruciferous vegetables, not drinking a bunch of alcohol.
- 21:35Brianna: I think you just said that.
- 21:37Baylee: But
- 21:37Brianna: But
- 21:37Baylee: not gonna cause harm to put it in your belly button
- 21:39Brianna: No.
- 21:40Brianna: And this is, like, a good kind of thing to, like, I think help people remember that, like, your skin is permeable, so, like, the stuff you put on your skin.
- 21:48Brianna: so I like it.
- 21:49Brianna: I've done it.
- 21:50Brianna: I'll do it.
- 21:52Brianna: I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I, like, I think it's one of those, like, it's a sprinkle on top of your health cupcake.
- 21:59Brianna: You know what I mean?
- 21:59Brianna: Like, you need the cake and the frosting and the sprinkle.
- 22:03Brianna: Yeah.
- 22:03Brianna: You can't just be like,"I do castor oil packs," and then, I just eat 50, 60 grams of added sugar every single day." You know?
- 22:10Baylee: work
- 22:11Brianna: Yeah.
- 22:12Brianna: Yeah.
- 22:12Brianna: The next one is cortisol face.
- 22:14Brianna: So this, I find this to be kind of, like, predatory, okay?
- 22:19Brianna: Like, I feel like they're like,"Hey, women, what else are, are you
- 22:25Baylee: with
- 22:25Brianna: insecure about?" Like,"What else are you ins- insecure about?
- 22:29Brianna: Oh, your fat, puffy face?
- 22:31Brianna: I can help with that." You know?
- 22:34Brianna: Here's the thing, is there is actual, medical reasons why you can have, like, that, quote-unquote,"moon face" or puffy face.
- 22:41Brianna: Most people don't have that.
- 22:43Brianna: Yes, do we need to help with, you know, circulation and lymphatic drainage?
- 22:48Brianna: Is that...
- 22:48Brianna: Absolutely.
- 22:49Brianna: Is there stuff that we can do that makes you puffier?
- 22:51Brianna: Yes.
- 22:51Brianna: But so do different things, like different shifts in your hormones throughout your cycle, okay?
- 22:57Brianna: You should always be trying to make sure your cortisol is at a healthy level, but- It's okay.
- 23:03Brianna: I just, usually it's connected to like a supplement.
- 23:05Brianna: Usually it's just connected to a supplement, which you know what?
- 23:07Brianna: Like, all kinds of stuff that you do to help your face, love it.
- 23:10Brianna: You know, the gauzes and all the things, love it.
- 23:14Baylee: But a puffy face
- 23:15Brianna: think, yeah
- 23:16Baylee: mean high cortisol either.
- 23:18Brianna: Right.
- 23:19Brianna: Right
- 23:19Baylee: to high sodium, alcohol, poor sleep, Like,
- 23:23Brianna: It's usually those.
- 23:24Baylee: Or, like, just hormonal changes.
- 23:27Baylee: It
- 23:28Brianna: Yeah
- 23:28Baylee: to that, so again, fixing that foundation and it's like,"Oh my gosh, my face is fixed." It may not be
- 23:35Brianna: Great.
- 23:35Baylee: your cortisol.
- 23:36Baylee: You're just supporting your body differently, and so you have that fat distribution changing and
- 23:43Brianna: Like you're not retaining as much water, you have better, yeah, circulation.
- 23:47Brianna: I don't think you need like an expensive supplement for your cortisol face
- 23:50Baylee: Yeah.
- 23:52Baylee: see, it gets it gets to be a lot, and it gets to be overwhelming.
- 23:55Baylee: Again, I think that's why we have the misconception of being healthy is expensive, being healthy is hard.
- 24:02Baylee: Literally, like, just start keeping it basic.
- 24:05Baylee: Once you reach your weight loss goals and you're feeling better, then maybe add some of these other things to amplify
- 24:14Brianna: Yeah
- 24:15Baylee: to level up if you want to.
- 24:17Baylee: it's also not a requirement for everyone to need to do mushroom coffee, or take cortisol supplements, or do the castor oil packs.
- 24:27Baylee: It's helpful for
- 24:28Brianna: Mm-hmm.
- 24:28Baylee: but you also have to build off a solid foundation.
- 24:31Baylee: I think those are
- 24:32Brianna: Yeah.
- 24:32Baylee: to cover
- 24:33Brianna: Yeah.
- 24:33Brianna: I just think it's gotten so stressful.
- 24:35Brianna: And again, I, I try to, like, tell people, like, you know, TikTok and Instagram and it's a way that people market to people.
- 24:41Brianna: Yeah, I'm stressed too.
- 24:42Brianna: So I'm like, of course they're gonna think,"What are all these ailments people could have?" That's what you do.
- 24:47Brianna: That's sales 101.
- 24:48Brianna: You have an issue, I have a solution.
- 24:50Brianna: Let me tell you why you have your issue and why you need the solution.
- 24:54Brianna: So yeah, you know.
- 24:55Brianna: But if you're worried because your health regimen is, like, 30 steps long, you can barely take some stuff out.
- 25:02Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 25:03Brianna: People have a hard time just sticking with the basics.
- 25:06Brianna: That is the problem.
- 25:07Brianna: So don't get in the weeds with some of this unless you're ready to, like Bailey said.
- 25:10Brianna: And then if you do, other than, like, the parasite cleanse, all these are probably fine.
- 25:15Brianna: Parasite cleanse I would approach with caution.
- 25:17Brianna: I don't know.
- 25:17Brianna: They freak me out a little bit.
- 25:19Baylee: They freak me out.
- 25:19Baylee: I feel like, yeah, probably don't need a parasite cleanse.
- 25:22Baylee: And if you are a parasite, like go see a doctor.
- 25:25Brianna: Yeah, and I do know, like, there's all kinds of stuff you gotta do before.
- 25:28Brianna: Like, you have to take, like, binders and all these things.
- 25:30Brianna: You can't just be like,"Get out of me." I don't...
- 25:33Brianna: I'm probably
- 25:38Baylee: We hope this helpful just to kind of relax you a little bit and give you some clarity on the trends that you might be seeing, and we'll be back next week with a brand-new episode.
- 25:48Brianna: Bye
