- 0:17Speaker 1: This week we've been drawn to the word mercy and
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Lord has kind of brought us to that subject
- 0:23Speaker 1: matter this week as we look through the scripture and
- 0:27Speaker 1: the word mercy is used in many different Ways in
- 0:30Speaker 1: the Bible, conversations, relationships, situations, always obtain God's mercy in
- 0:38Speaker 1: those situations. And so we've been kind of looking at
- 0:41Speaker 1: that this week. And we go to Matthew chapter 5
- 0:44Speaker 1: and verse number 7 this morning as we get ready
- 0:46Speaker 1: to spend a little morning moments with Jesus. The Bible says,
- 0:50Speaker 1: Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: we've talked this week already about receiving mercy. And then
- 1:00Speaker 1: our ability to recognize mercy. But mercy was never meant
- 1:06Speaker 1: to stop with us. It comes to us and we're
- 1:09Speaker 1: thankful for it, but it was never meant to stop
- 1:11Speaker 1: with us. See, what God has shown us should shape
- 1:15Speaker 1: the way we respond to someone else. And that becomes
- 1:20Speaker 1: difficult if we're honest, if we really take an honest
- 1:23Speaker 1: look at it this morning on our podcast. That becomes
- 1:26Speaker 1: difficult when the hurt becomes personal. See, it's easy to
- 1:30Speaker 1: speak about mercy until someone has disappointed you, spoken ill
- 1:35Speaker 1: against you, or maybe failed to keep a promise to you. Then,
- 1:40Speaker 1: for some reason, we want them to understand exactly how
- 1:43Speaker 1: much hurt and damage that they've caused. But showing mercy
- 1:48Speaker 1: does not mean that you pretend it never happened. It
- 1:52Speaker 1: does not require us to trust someone who continues to
- 1:56Speaker 1: harm us. See, we can speak honestly Set boundaries and
- 2:02Speaker 1: still choose to treat a person with dignity. That's mercy.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Mercy refused to let their wrong. I want you to
- 2:09Speaker 1: hear this this morning. This kind of came to me
- 2:11Speaker 1: as I was preparing this this morning. Mercy refuses to
- 2:15Speaker 1: let their wrongdoing decide what kind of person you're going
- 2:19Speaker 1: to become. I want you to think about the rain
- 2:23Speaker 1: falling on dry ground. No amount of rain can undo
- 2:27Speaker 1: the weaks. without water. But it can give something that
- 2:33Speaker 1: is living a chance to continue to grow. And merciful
- 2:37Speaker 1: response may not repair a relationship in one conversation. It can, however,
- 2:42Speaker 1: keep bitterness from taking root in your own life. See,
- 2:47Speaker 1: Jesus said, blessed are the merciful. He knew how much
- 2:52Speaker 1: we would need mercy ourselves, but he also knew That
- 2:57Speaker 1: we would meet people who needed more than our judgment.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Some carry struggles and scars that we can never see.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Others know they've done wrong. In their faith they will
- 3:10Speaker 1: always be labeled for that wrong. Maybe you can understand
- 3:14Speaker 1: that this morning. Maybe you can identify with that this morning.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Perhaps someone in your life needs room to tell the
- 3:21Speaker 1: truth without feeling they're going to be crushed by it.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And perhaps they need a patient answer instead of another
- 3:29Speaker 1: sharp rebuke. That's mercy. None of that is always easy.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'm not saying that it is. There are hurts that
- 3:38Speaker 1: take time to heal and time to face. And forgiveness
- 3:43Speaker 1: may be a decision we have to bring before God
- 3:46Speaker 1: again and again. But we can begin this morning by
- 3:49Speaker 1: remembering how He met us. When we came to him
- 3:54Speaker 1: in need of mercy. And then we can ask him
- 3:57Speaker 1: to help us respond the same way. With the same
- 4:01Speaker 1: compassion he showed us. Someone may remember your words for years.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So let them remember. That when you had a chance
- 4:12Speaker 1: to be harsh and criticize. You chose mercy instead. So
- 4:17Speaker 1: today the Lord leaves us with a question. Who needs
- 4:22Speaker 1: a merciful response from you today? And what kind of
- 4:26Speaker 1: impact will that make in their lives? Today you be safe.
- 4:32Speaker 1: You be strong and you be blessed. And show some mercy.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Because it sure has been shown to you. We'll see
- 4:41Speaker 1: you back here again tomorrow. Have a great day.
