Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

We have talked about receiving mercy and recognizing it. But mercy was never meant to stop with us. What God has shown us can shape the way we respond to someone else.

That becomes difficult when the hurt is personal. It is easy to speak about mercy until someone has disappointed us, spoken against us, or failed to keep a promise. Then we want them to understand exactly how much damage they caused.

Showing mercy does not mean pretending the hurt never happened. It does not require us to trust someone who…
