- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud or
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whalbury and a wadery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money the podcast.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It helps you unwrap more Christmas cheer without wrapping up
- 0:58Speaker 2: more debt. That's pretty good. Yeah, you did real well.
- 1:01Speaker 2: That was a very good intro to turn. Out of ten?
- 1:04Speaker 2: What else you got?
- 1:05Speaker 4: So Christmas is coming fast and today we're playing Secret
- 1:07Speaker 4: Santa for your savings with hacks for making your dollar
- 1:10Speaker 4: stretch further for the big day.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It's a good idea. It's good. A dear, I'm back
- 1:13Speaker 2: and with me is Victoria Divine our financial elf on
- 1:16Speaker 2: a shelf. You guide us through every clever holiday hack
- 1:20Speaker 2: V are you ready for? I love your intros. Thank
- 1:23Speaker 2: you they are very good turn out of ten. Thank
- 1:25Speaker 2: You're witty, very funny. I like the idea that I'm
- 1:28Speaker 2: an elf on a shelf. You look like an elf
- 1:30Speaker 2: on a shelf. You know what I mean? Explain it?
- 1:32Speaker 2: But it's because I am so sure, do you know what?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Maybe that's what it is. Whenever we meet the community
- 1:36Speaker 2: in real life, one of the things that they often
- 1:39Speaker 2: say is you're much smaller than I thought you would be.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Just a small, little baby. Yeah, And I'm like, yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 2: since I'm like five to one, what were you expecting
- 1:46Speaker 2: so cute? You could pat me on the head? Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 2: I could dormit to do that because I will cut you.
- 1:51Speaker 2: That's a bit condescending, but you like, hypothetically, it's completely possible.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's possible. It's possible. I also have been doing a
- 1:58Speaker 2: lot of like Christmas planning as well, Like I don't
- 2:03Speaker 2: know about you, I feel like you're rogue, like your
- 2:05Speaker 2: last minute get some stuff together. Oh yeah. I have
- 2:07Speaker 2: been putting together Christmas hacks and putting together like Christmas lists.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I have the best gifts under one hundred dollars list
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think I've ever put together, and I did a
- 2:18Speaker 2: call one for your male partner, because I feel like
- 2:21Speaker 2: having a female partner probably be easier to buy for,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and also you have always thoughtful things to say. But
- 2:28Speaker 2: like men, what do you buy men? Sure? Beck they
- 2:32Speaker 2: like golf? I know nothing, but do you know what
- 2:35Speaker 2: I mean? So I put together basically a whole heap
- 2:38Speaker 2: of like Christmas shopping lists and present ideas and hopefully
- 2:42Speaker 2: like they're a bit inspiring but also just really fun
- 2:45Speaker 2: to put together. Back because I love gift giving. That's
- 2:48Speaker 2: really sweet. I want to check this out. I'm going
- 2:50Speaker 2: to send them to you and hopefully you comment and
- 2:52Speaker 2: give me some good engagement. Thanks. Oh yeah, you know me.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I'll be on there. I always comment on your videos,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and I really appreciate it. I see it's because it's
- 3:01Speaker 2: funny to be honest. But then I'm all, sorry, that's funny.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It makes me look so cool that a blue ticker
- 3:08Speaker 2: is commenting. Oh I pose. Okay, well I'll keep that up.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Okay, so let's be real for
- 3:14Speaker 2: a minute.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Christmas is meant to be a time of joy, and
- 3:17Speaker 4: just like coziness, good vibes, family, chance to wind down,
- 3:20Speaker 4: but it can bring on a lot of stress, especially
- 3:23Speaker 4: with the cost of living climbing higher than sense as slate,
- 3:27Speaker 4: so I think approximately higher than thirty three thousand feet.
- 3:29Speaker 2: It actually feels that way, like I feel like so
- 3:32Speaker 2: many people this year are financially stressed.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Well, actually, do you happen to know how big of
- 3:38Speaker 4: a deal these spending pressures are for Ussies?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Of course I do. I am stat scale and I
- 3:42Speaker 2: feel like it's come prepared. I feel like Christmas is amazing.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Like I love Christmas, I love festive tea, I love
- 3:48Speaker 2: having people over. I just love entertaining. Like I'm an
- 3:51Speaker 2: entertaining girly. I'm probably going to do a video on
- 3:53Speaker 2: like my things that you would have to have in
- 3:55Speaker 2: your home to always entertain. Yes, I think this is
- 3:59Speaker 2: a flex. When you're out at the bar and you
- 4:02Speaker 2: kind of want to go do something and I'm like, oh,
- 4:03Speaker 2: I just come over to mine, and then that person
- 4:05Speaker 2: has a drink, like they have a game that you
- 4:08Speaker 2: can play, like they have a little snack, and You're like,
- 4:10Speaker 2: how are you so prepared? Oh my god, I know
- 4:12Speaker 2: I really am. I mean at all times that's a
- 4:15Speaker 2: good Christmas present too, putting together like a little like
- 4:19Speaker 2: entertainer's pack. True. Anyway, Christmas obviously adds up significantly, and
- 4:24Speaker 2: recent stats show that around thirty seven percent of Australians
- 4:28Speaker 2: feel financially stressed over holiday expenses, and nearly one in
- 4:32Speaker 2: five of us are relying on credit cards, will buy now,
- 4:35Speaker 2: pay later services to make it through. I think it's
- 4:39Speaker 2: easy to get swept off in the holiday magic and
- 4:41Speaker 2: feel like you need to be spending big to make
- 4:43Speaker 2: it extra special. But that often leads to like a
- 4:46Speaker 2: post Christmas financial hangover. We spoke about that last year,
- 4:49Speaker 2: this idea of like a financial hangover. It's a thing totally.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'm kind of shocked that it's only thirty seven percent,
- 4:55Speaker 2: to be honest, but I mean that's people who admit
- 4:57Speaker 2: that they're financially well. That's true. That's true. That's true.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Some people, you know a little bit more, they're not
- 5:01Speaker 2: ready to talk about money, and that's why we'd be waiting.
- 5:03Speaker 2: We're just here. That's of course, we're all about finding
- 5:07Speaker 2: ways to avoid that. No, we don't want a financial hangover.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We don't want that because I feel like it's like anxiety. Yes,
- 5:12Speaker 2: it's not just having the hangover, you get the anxiety
- 5:15Speaker 2: about the money you've spent. One out of ten can't
- 5:16Speaker 2: recommend totally.
- 5:18Speaker 4: And I feel like the best way to find these
- 5:20Speaker 4: hacks is to get them from the community. They tried
- 5:23Speaker 4: the text prepare, Yes, exactly.
- 5:26Speaker 2: It's like calling your mum when you've got a stain
- 5:27Speaker 2: on your shirt. She just knows, you know, she just knows.
- 5:30Speaker 2: She just knows, and you know who knows she's on
- 5:33Speaker 2: the money community. Yes, exactly, right.
- 5:35Speaker 4: So we did turn to the she's in the Money
- 5:36Speaker 4: community to get their favorite Christmas hacks.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Are you ready for our community tested hats? Of course
- 5:41Speaker 2: I am. But before we get into our community tested hacks,
- 5:45Speaker 2: I thought, you know what, we love Santa and we
- 5:48Speaker 2: love talking about Santa. And I just thought that because
- 5:52Speaker 2: Christmas is so magic and we are going to be
- 5:55Speaker 2: talking about Santa a lot, maybe this isn't an episode
- 5:58Speaker 2: for little ears, but but if it is, that's up
- 6:02Speaker 2: to you totally. So, Beck, I'm going to share one
- 6:04Speaker 2: from the community, and I think it's a really good
- 6:07Speaker 2: one to start with, and it also got a whole
- 6:09Speaker 2: heap of love on the post in our community. Just
- 6:12Speaker 2: casual reminder. This all happens in our Facebook group, so
- 6:14Speaker 2: if you're not there, you're missing out. So our friend
- 6:17Speaker 2: Tara said, just a reminder that it is possible and
- 6:20Speaker 2: perfectly reasonable to agree with people to just opt out
- 6:25Speaker 2: of the over consumption festivities and not do gifts.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Yes, I completely agree. I have a friend of mine
- 6:30Speaker 4: who celebrates Yule, which I believe is like the rising
- 6:33Speaker 4: of the sun. Or maybe I'm so sorry for anyone's
- 6:36Speaker 4: seeing to this who does celebrate or knows about it.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I'm completely butchering that definitions.
- 6:41Speaker 2: But that also sounds fun. It is really cool, and
- 6:43Speaker 2: it's just like it's less about the gifts, it's less
- 6:45Speaker 2: about the amount that you're spending. And I just kind
- 6:47Speaker 2: of like that idea. I like it as well. And
- 6:50Speaker 2: I think that if you're going to do this, start
- 6:52Speaker 2: that conversation early, because if you're starting the conversation early,
- 6:57Speaker 2: someone else is not like, oh shit, but beck, I
- 6:59Speaker 2: ready bought your press since yeah, it would be nice
- 7:02Speaker 2: to be that organized. But I think it's really important
- 7:04Speaker 2: to start that conversation early. But then also like, how
- 7:06Speaker 2: do you bring that up back? Yeah, if last year
- 7:08Speaker 2: you did presents, what if they like presents. I know,
- 7:12Speaker 2: so you need to frame it properly. So frame it
- 7:15Speaker 2: as a way to like focus on time together instead
- 7:18Speaker 2: of just the presence. So how about we make this
- 7:20Speaker 2: holiday more about like spending time together than spending money. Yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 2: so that could be cute or like talk about the benefits.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I think that often, and I've said this before, like
- 7:30Speaker 2: we are a group of women. We're not that confrontational.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I don't think like I'm never going to be like
- 7:35Speaker 2: we're not doing gifts this year, Like that's just not me. Yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 2: but like explain the benefits, so like emphasize you know,
- 7:41Speaker 2: it's going to take a heap of stress off both
- 7:43Speaker 2: of us, and like we're going to be able to
- 7:44Speaker 2: focus on what matters. If skipping gifts is going to
- 7:47Speaker 2: feel a little bit stressful, you could consider maybe like
- 7:51Speaker 2: swapping small meaningful gestures. So let's maybe you make a
- 7:55Speaker 2: rule it has to be a homemade treat or totally
- 7:58Speaker 2: we beck again to get each other framed photos of
- 8:01Speaker 2: our favorite memory together. Yeah, so like how do you
- 8:04Speaker 2: get that? That's really cute and maybe you don't have
- 8:07Speaker 2: a photo of it and you have to draw it?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Whoa or like cozy DIY gifts, Like, yeah, what about
- 8:13Speaker 2: like we do a candle making sesh together and go
- 8:16Speaker 2: down to Kmart and we buy the candle making pack
- 8:19Speaker 2: that I know is like twenty bucks that's ten dollars each,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and then we can have a cozy afternoon at home
- 8:24Speaker 2: where all of the drinks have been bought at the
- 8:26Speaker 2: supermarket and nothing's overpriced. I feel like you're a crafty girl,
- 8:30Speaker 2: so yeah, I love a craft all the Kmart stuff
- 8:33Speaker 2: at the moment. Complete side note, Kmart has so many
- 8:36Speaker 2: crafting kits at the moment. Yeah they do. They really
- 8:39Speaker 2: just know what we want, almost like they are consumption core. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 2: first they know what they do it right, and then
- 8:47Speaker 2: maybe not everyone's on board. So I would ask the group.
- 8:50Speaker 2: So we're gonna ask for permission to do this. We're
- 8:53Speaker 2: not just going to be like, by the way, there
- 8:54Speaker 2: can no presents and you go, oh, I really like
- 8:56Speaker 2: giving presents, because to be honest, i'd be disappointed. Yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 2: because I might go, oh, beck, like I totally say
- 9:01Speaker 2: that you don't have to get me one, but like
- 9:02Speaker 2: I'm a gift give bar, like I cannot wait, yeah
- 9:05Speaker 2: to get presents. So it's never too early obviously, to
- 9:08Speaker 2: talk about next year's plans and then yeah, I think
- 9:11Speaker 2: that you can then get a head start on shopping
- 9:12Speaker 2: for the people that you will be buying gifts for,
- 9:14Speaker 2: and then you kind of know who you don't have
- 9:16Speaker 2: to include in that, which is obviously going to really
- 9:18Speaker 2: help the budget.
- 9:19Speaker 4: And if you're really struggling to get your family over
- 9:21Speaker 4: the line, Rachel told us I'm making my mum a
- 9:24Speaker 4: Christmas tree skirt for Christmas. We're doing a soft introduction
- 9:27Speaker 4: of making our family Christmas presents.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I like, but also not everyone always has time. And
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think I've shared on the podcast before that my
- 9:35Speaker 2: husband's side of the family we do secondhand, handmade or
- 9:38Speaker 2: homemade ye as a rule, so like it has to
- 9:42Speaker 2: be secondhand or you have to make it or someone
- 9:44Speaker 2: else could have made it. But you can't buy basically
- 9:47Speaker 2: commercial gifts, yes, which I think is really fun because
- 9:51Speaker 2: if you're not that crafty and you're like, well, I
- 9:53Speaker 2: can't make a tree skirt, what even is a tree skirt? Like,
- 9:56Speaker 2: you're not in as big of a pickle, right, Totally
- 9:58Speaker 2: what I do with my family just really quickly because
- 10:00Speaker 2: we also don't do gifts. You know, it's like my
- 10:02Speaker 2: three brothers, my mum, and that's it for the Christmas.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And I think it's really cute and crazy.
- 10:05Speaker 4: But I go to Kmart and I get those like
- 10:07Speaker 4: really small novelty gifts.
- 10:09Speaker 2: You know, there's like squish bina and I pair it
- 10:11Speaker 2: with like a box of chocolates. It's always really really cheap,
- 10:14Speaker 2: and we just like kind of do this like I
- 10:17Speaker 2: don't know what it's called, but it's like we all
- 10:18Speaker 2: pick a number and we one by one.
- 10:19Speaker 4: It's like a mysterious package. They kind of have to
- 10:21Speaker 4: pick which one they want.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah kind of and then do you trade? We trade,
- 10:27Speaker 2: We steal, like so even though it's like you're receiving
- 10:31Speaker 2: it's called Badds Verry Bad Sandy, but I want the
- 10:33Speaker 2: squishy banana. Yeah, And it's really fun. It's there.
- 10:36Speaker 4: There's small gifts, they're not that expensive, but it just
- 10:39Speaker 4: makes it so much more exciting.
- 10:41Speaker 2: And I kind of love that. But I also love
- 10:43Speaker 2: what you were saying about, Rachel, because I feel like
- 10:45Speaker 2: it gives your family the chance to warm up to
- 10:48Speaker 2: the idea that you don't need to do really big
- 10:50Speaker 2: presence and you're kind of like planting the seed with
- 10:53Speaker 2: this epic sounding tree skirt, which is maybe beyond my capabilities.
- 10:57Speaker 2: So please send pictures because maybe I could. Yeah please,
- 11:01Speaker 2: I don't know, very impressive. You know what tree skirt
- 11:03Speaker 2: is in my mind, it's that thing that goes around
- 11:06Speaker 2: like the bottom of the tree.
- 11:07Speaker 3: It is.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I was just testing you because because it never in
- 11:11Speaker 2: my life if I bought or needed. Yeah, but it
- 11:13Speaker 2: would be cool to have, you know, so one of
- 11:17Speaker 2: those maybe we need to make tree skirts this year. Yeah, right,
- 11:21Speaker 2: what's next? Okay, So we've got lots of community members
- 11:24Speaker 2: just doing.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Gifts for kids this year, which is Yeah, it's really
- 11:27Speaker 4: smart and it's cute, isn't it. So with this good
- 11:29Speaker 4: reminder from Helen who says only buy for kids, most
- 11:33Speaker 4: adults have the means to buy what they want throughout
- 11:35Speaker 4: the year, so gift giving because you should is pointless.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I tend to agree it's fair. But I really
- 11:41Speaker 2: love gift giving and it was a lot of fun.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I am that creepy store cars. So, as I've said
- 11:45Speaker 2: to you before, if I die and you're in each
- 11:47Speaker 2: of my phone, wipe it. I don't need anyone to
- 11:49Speaker 2: say that. But I have so many notes on my
- 11:51Speaker 2: phone of like ideas for presents, like and things that
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think people would like, even if I'm like, maybe
- 11:57Speaker 2: not even planning on getting you a Christmas present, but
- 11:59Speaker 2: I alreadyapily things that you would like. Like I have
- 12:01Speaker 2: a list of things that Zara would like. She doesn't
- 12:03Speaker 2: know that that's cute, Like I could read it up.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I know what you're into. That's really cute. I know
- 12:08Speaker 2: that's really cute. Well that means that if I am
- 12:12Speaker 2: going to get you a present, I can be like, oh,
- 12:14Speaker 2: it's meaningful at least, and you feel heard and thought of,
- 12:17Speaker 2: And I think, to me, that's the most important part
- 12:19Speaker 2: about Christmas. Like if you know you had mentioned I'm
- 12:22Speaker 2: really getting into puzzles at the moment or something, and
- 12:25Speaker 2: then I bought your puzzle, you can be like, wow,
- 12:27Speaker 2: she really listened. It wasn't actually the cost of the present.
- 12:31Speaker 2: It was the thought that counts right anyway. Good. I
- 12:34Speaker 2: love to keep us from going like overboard, and I've
- 12:36Speaker 2: seen it catching on. So Nancy said, we have a
- 12:39Speaker 2: four gift rule. Something you want, something you need, something
- 12:43Speaker 2: to wear, and something to read my rs too, And
- 12:46Speaker 2: I am actually implementing that for Harvey. So that's what
- 12:51Speaker 2: he's like Christmas things will be. I don't know what
- 12:54Speaker 2: to do about Sanda Sacks though, hmmm, I'm making him
- 12:58Speaker 2: miss Santa Sack. At the moment, I feel like there's
- 13:00Speaker 2: so many very things, Like I remember when I was
- 13:03Speaker 2: a kid, someone would be like, oh, Santa brought me
- 13:05Speaker 2: a PlayStation, and in the back of my mind, I'm like, oh,
- 13:08Speaker 2: Santa brought me a toothbrush and novelty band aids and
- 13:12Speaker 2: a lot of like strawberries and cream lollies. Yeah, like
- 13:15Speaker 2: and that's how Santa worked in our house, like all
- 13:18Speaker 2: of the big presence or like, oh like thing things.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Mum was always like, you know, now I'm an adult,
- 13:24Speaker 2: She's like, I wasn't letting Santa take credit for the
- 13:25Speaker 2: good presence. She's like those very expensive like and you
- 13:28Speaker 2: only got one. I wasn't letting Sanda run with a
- 13:30Speaker 2: credit like he got you novelty, fun things that you needed,
- 13:33Speaker 2: but like, what do you do? Yeah, that's so true.
- 13:36Speaker 4: I know that one really baffles me because I'm like,
- 13:38Speaker 4: I want the magic to be there, but I also
- 13:40Speaker 4: want to be like, if you're going to school in
- 13:43Speaker 4: like a kid who has way more money in their family,
- 13:46Speaker 4: kudos to them, but they might receive something that's way
- 13:50Speaker 4: more than you can ever get your child, and then
- 13:51Speaker 4: your child just thinks, hey, Santa hates me.
- 13:54Speaker 2: That's okay, you know what I mean? That makes me
- 13:56Speaker 2: really Yeah, It's like I kind of want to tell life.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I think we should all just agree, like Santa doesn't
- 14:00Speaker 2: bring big presents, end a story like, yeah, I think
- 14:03Speaker 2: across the board. I don't care if your public school private.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Santa he doesn't get the good stuff. Yeah, Mom and
- 14:08Speaker 2: dad get the good stuff. Like I remember one of
- 14:10Speaker 2: my favorite things was Santa always brought us you know
- 14:13Speaker 2: those novelty band aids that you didn't get ham Yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 2: like we were never allowed though, So Mum would be
- 14:17Speaker 2: like no. And my little sister Alex, if you're listening, hi,
- 14:21Speaker 2: she would ask for a band aid all the time.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Like she would always be like, oh my finger. Mum
- 14:26Speaker 2: would be like, like Alex was like obsessed with getting
- 14:29Speaker 2: a band aid. So the idea that Santa gave us
- 14:32Speaker 2: novelty band aids, they didn't go in the medicine cupboard.
- 14:35Speaker 2: They went like in our room. We had our own
- 14:38Speaker 2: stash wild. But like that was one of my favorite
- 14:41Speaker 2: Christmas presents. Yeah, I get that she's so easily pleased.
- 14:45Speaker 2: And while I'm starting to think about this, Harvey's in daycare.
- 14:48Speaker 2: So I've got one from Kate. Kate said, top tip
- 14:53Speaker 2: you don't have to buy for educators, swim teachers, coaches,
- 14:56Speaker 2: et cetera. I know we'd all love to, but with
- 14:58Speaker 2: the cost of living as it, they are absolutely fine
- 15:01Speaker 2: without another personalized water bottle, box of chocolates or pop
- 15:05Speaker 2: plant with a thanks for helping me grow tag. That's
- 15:07Speaker 2: fair and honestly, just like a little bit that's so
- 15:09Speaker 2: hard is plenty so funny because I've been thinking about, like,
- 15:12Speaker 2: what do you get educators for? Can you guys slide
- 15:16Speaker 2: into my dams? If you are an educator, if you're
- 15:18Speaker 2: a teacher, if you're a swim teacher, what have you
- 15:21Speaker 2: been gifted? That actually was nice? Like what do you want? Like,
- 15:25Speaker 2: do you actually want boxes of chocolates? Because like, if
- 15:27Speaker 2: that's what you want, I'm a get you box of chocolates.
- 15:30Speaker 2: But I can almost guarantee you don't want another plant
- 15:33Speaker 2: that has a tag that says thanks for helping me grow. Yeah, true,
- 15:36Speaker 2: I imagine, like and obviously I'm not any one of
- 15:38Speaker 2: those things, but like just a nice message or a
- 15:40Speaker 2: card that is really really half fell and says thank
- 15:42Speaker 2: you so much, genuinely one hundred percent. On the teacher train,
- 15:45Speaker 2: some might think that's controversial, but we had ex teacher
- 15:49Speaker 2: just chime in and say, as an ex teacher, we
- 15:52Speaker 2: would love to not receive so many gifts or if any,
- 15:56Speaker 2: which I think is really funny. And another teacher, Lauren said,
- 15:59Speaker 2: as a tea, I love a handmade card from my students.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Oh that's cute, but like it's the thought that counts, right, Yeah, yeah, definitely,
- 16:07Speaker 2: Well that's really sweet.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Okay, So this next one is straying from the teacher train,
- 16:12Speaker 4: but it's definitely from a She's on the money girly.
- 16:14Speaker 4: She says, I plan on having a cheap Christmas this year.
- 16:17Speaker 4: As such, my husband and I will be gifting ourselves
- 16:20Speaker 4: another seven thousand dollars less.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Debt than we started with at the beginning of this year.
- 16:24Speaker 2: That's so cool. Yeah, that's really cools a lot of money. Yeah, geez,
- 16:29Speaker 2: even if it's like five hundred dollars less debt, two
- 16:31Speaker 2: hundred dollars fifty dollars less debt, like that is all epic, right,
- 16:36Speaker 2: And then I have another one, So Lola is a
- 16:38Speaker 2: girl after my own heart. She says. I use a
- 16:41Speaker 2: dedicated Christmas list app every year that tracks all my
- 16:44Speaker 2: gifts and spending and keeps me inside my budget. It
- 16:47Speaker 2: also tells me what I got previous years, so I
- 16:50Speaker 2: don't double up. I start shopping at the media toy
- 16:53Speaker 2: sales and put things away throughout the year. I set
- 16:56Speaker 2: price alerts in Google on items I have on my list,
- 17:00Speaker 2: so I get notified if the price drops. Genius and
- 17:03Speaker 2: so cool, I know. And do you know what it's
- 17:05Speaker 2: so annoying because like I just don't have the self, Like,
- 17:10Speaker 2: what's that word I'm looking for? Control?
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 2: If I got a toy fee, yeah, same, I already
- 17:15Speaker 2: gave it to you, I know, same. What do you
- 17:16Speaker 2: mean you put it away? No, I'm not if I'm
- 17:19Speaker 2: buying it with the intention of giving that for Christmas,
- 17:21Speaker 2: even if it's two days before Christmas, I'm like, can
- 17:24Speaker 2: I give you your present? Can I give you? I'm really excited?
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah right right, yeah. But she ended with something really
- 17:31Speaker 2: lovely to think about too, especially as I guess your
- 17:33Speaker 2: kids are getting a little bit older. She said, Also
- 17:36Speaker 2: mom and dad get big ticket items as I'm conscious
- 17:39Speaker 2: that Santa doesn't always have the same budget and kids
- 17:41Speaker 2: talk about what they get. Wow, I know that so
- 17:47Speaker 2: funny because, as I said, we should all just join
- 17:50Speaker 2: together and agree Santa doesn't get the good presence. Yes,
- 17:54Speaker 2: a cute novelty years, we're gonna call Santa up and
- 17:57Speaker 2: be like, hey, Santa, you're on toothbrushes. You're on toothbrushes
- 18:00Speaker 2: this year.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Socks, toothbrushes, the little things fruit, you know.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Like, did you do Santa stockings growing up? Yes? We
- 18:08Speaker 2: didn't got fruit lockily. We got Corinthians, Oh my gosh. Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 2: we'd always see them because they're so gigantic. They'd be
- 18:18Speaker 2: like shoved down inside. You can see, you can see the.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Shade, Yes, you can see, and you know exactly. We
- 18:24Speaker 4: always got an orbit tennis for some reason. I know
- 18:26Speaker 4: that wasn't in the stocking, but I think Corinthians and
- 18:28Speaker 4: orbit tennis.
- 18:29Speaker 2: What else in your stocking? Can you remember? I remember
- 18:32Speaker 2: got a Dumbati soap and yet little things like that.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah we got stuff like that as well.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And Mum got sneaky. She used to put like our
- 18:40Speaker 2: book list items in there. I want a coincidence that
- 18:44Speaker 2: you needed those like screw up crayons. Sanda must have known. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 18:51Speaker 2: you know what I feel. Rum Now I'm thinking, I'm
- 18:55Speaker 2: not sure I'm that impressed you. Also, Harvey, watch out,
- 18:58Speaker 2: because I'm gonna call Center up and Santa will be
- 19:00Speaker 2: getting your coloring markers and anything that hypothetically your teacher
- 19:04Speaker 2: needed school stuff. My best friend's dad, we gave him
- 19:08Speaker 2: something from around the house that he just like, I
- 19:10Speaker 2: guess it was kind of just in the background. I
- 19:11Speaker 2: feel like you can do that for kids, because he
- 19:13Speaker 2: didn't know. He opened up this lovely jug that was
- 19:16Speaker 2: like a vase. He was like, this is beautiful. Thank you.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Put it back where it was, And you can do
- 19:20Speaker 4: that with your kids. I imagine if you just get
- 19:21Speaker 4: little toys that it's actually.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Half our idea because like Harvey, at Christmas time will
- 19:25Speaker 2: be ten months old, and so like ten month old
- 19:28Speaker 2: doesn't need anything too dramatic, So we're just going to
- 19:32Speaker 2: wrap up a whole eve of toys that he already
- 19:34Speaker 2: But tip from my mom, make sure if you're buying
- 19:37Speaker 2: wrapping paper for kids, it's the foil wrapping paper, not
- 19:40Speaker 2: just the paper wrapping paper, because apparently they love it. Yeah,
- 19:44Speaker 2: so we'll be wrapping Harvey's presence in foil like present
- 19:47Speaker 2: paper this year. Yeah, and I think that that's really fun. Yeah,
- 19:50Speaker 2: I agree. I think that's part. Have you seen that TikTok,
- 19:54Speaker 2: which was the one where like they all go to
- 19:56Speaker 2: Grandma's house for Christmas and throughout the year the kids
- 20:00Speaker 2: have been stealing stuff from Grandma. Yeah, and like they
- 20:03Speaker 2: all go around the room and they're like, oh, here, back,
- 20:04Speaker 2: here's your present. She repensent and she kind of looks
- 20:06Speaker 2: at it like, wow, I have one of these already,
- 20:08Speaker 2: and then the next present is literally like one of
- 20:10Speaker 2: her own books, and like it's all of our own stuff. Anyway,
- 20:13Speaker 2: I just thought that was really funny.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I think it's beautiful because it's like the joy of
- 20:17Speaker 4: actually opening a gift is probably more exciting usually.
- 20:19Speaker 2: The gif you disappointed. Honestly, if someone gave me like
- 20:21Speaker 2: ten gifts and that was actually all just stuff stolen
- 20:24Speaker 2: from me, I'd be a bit But also like helps
- 20:27Speaker 2: you sit back and realize, like, oh god, I really
- 20:29Speaker 2: appreciate this book that I forgot to read. So maybe
- 20:32Speaker 2: it's a win win.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Okay, So if you're not doing Christmas gifts this year
- 20:36Speaker 4: but still want a little bit of Christmas cheer, Taylor
- 20:38Speaker 4: says for adults, we do a ten to fifteen dollars
- 20:41Speaker 4: TIMU limit, very specific insurance. Everyone who wants to participate
- 20:47Speaker 4: purchases something from tim It's absolutely hilarious. It goes in
- 20:50Speaker 4: a pile upon arrival. After breakfast, we played Dirty Santa,
- 20:54Speaker 4: also known I think as White Elephant.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Oh that's the gain that. I didn't think that, but
- 20:58Speaker 2: you were talking about that.
- 20:59Speaker 4: That's right, it's one of our highlights of the day
- 21:01Speaker 4: and everyone has a belly laugh.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I think that would be fee I love that. That's
- 21:04Speaker 2: like your squishy banana. I love those little noveltives. That's
- 21:07Speaker 2: a great There are so many different creative ways to
- 21:10Speaker 2: make Christmas, I guess, both fun and affordable. And we've
- 21:13Speaker 2: got plenty more tips where those came from. So stick
- 21:16Speaker 2: around because up next we're diving into some clever budgeting
- 21:19Speaker 2: hacks our community swears by. If you're ready to keep
- 21:21Speaker 2: your Christmas spending under control without cutting out the holidays here,
- 21:25Speaker 2: you won't want to miar sports coming up next. All right, Beck,
- 21:32Speaker 2: let's jump straight back in because I'm excited to talk
- 21:35Speaker 2: more about Christmas. Let's do it I am loving these
- 21:38Speaker 2: creative ways to save on holiday costs. I guess so
- 21:41Speaker 2: many of you are hacking your Woolies points as well
- 21:44Speaker 2: and saving them up for Christmas, which I think is
- 21:47Speaker 2: really smart. And a few of you said, don't forget
- 21:50Speaker 2: that you can also use them at Big W and
- 21:52Speaker 2: b wus as well. Yes, very true. Big W actually
- 21:56Speaker 2: has the largest line of books. Oh yeah, like they're
- 22:00Speaker 2: the biggest stockists of books outside bookstores in Australia. That's
- 22:04Speaker 2: really good to know. You could buy, shees all the
- 22:05Speaker 2: money they're hypothetically I love a Big W, I know
- 22:09Speaker 2: I do, and no where to be lie. I also
- 22:11Speaker 2: love a BWS but that's okay, Hey, no judgment here,
- 22:15Speaker 2: so okay. Next up we have Jade. I like how
- 22:17Speaker 2: Jade budgets.
- 22:18Speaker 4: She says, I estimate how much I'm going to spend
- 22:20Speaker 4: on Christmas, divide it by fifty two, and every week
- 22:23Speaker 4: put the amount into the savings accounts. When toys or
- 22:27Speaker 4: gifts come up on sale or clearance about the year
- 22:29Speaker 4: that I know I'm going to be purchasing, I'll buy
- 22:31Speaker 4: it and cover the expense from the Christmas account.
- 22:34Speaker 2: See that's so smart. And also, if you're sitting there
- 22:37Speaker 2: going v that doesn't help me because they don't have
- 22:40Speaker 2: a Christmas account. Set one up now, Like, I know
- 22:43Speaker 2: it's not going to work right now because we're planning
- 22:45Speaker 2: for Christmas, but the second Christmas is over, you can
- 22:49Speaker 2: start that process so that next to you doesn't have
- 22:51Speaker 2: to be stressed exactly. Like I know it feels stressful
- 22:54Speaker 2: right now, but what can we do so that future
- 22:56Speaker 2: us doesn't have to do this again? So true, I
- 22:58Speaker 2: think it's really hard as well, because like who's thinking
- 23:00Speaker 2: about Christmas in like February or March, So like, just
- 23:04Speaker 2: do it now and start setting it up and just
- 23:06Speaker 2: maybe do a direct debit so that this time next
- 23:08Speaker 2: year it's like you're faking chrisco. Yeah, babe, we have
- 23:11Speaker 2: Chris go at home. Yeah, like you've done your own
- 23:14Speaker 2: Christmas budgeting exactly, future you, well, thank you. Now. This
- 23:17Speaker 2: one is from Jessicah. It's not Jessica Richie, but this
- 23:21Speaker 2: one I think is her and it sounds a lot
- 23:23Speaker 2: like her. Ready. My Christmas Savings account is simply an
- 23:27Speaker 2: account for roundups and to transfer small savings from buy
- 23:31Speaker 2: on sale and save the difference challenges we do some
- 23:34Speaker 2: months and I keep any cash from Facebook marketplace sales
- 23:37Speaker 2: for Christmas activities, magic moments, and special treats that fall
- 23:41Speaker 2: outside the normal budget to make as much magic as possible.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And we spend December hand making gifts for phriens and
- 23:47Speaker 2: family when we feel inspired and a little bit thrifty.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I am single handedly bringing Christmas back to the Gringes
- 23:54Speaker 2: in the family as I go in. No way is
- 23:56Speaker 2: Christmas small in our home, but it is intentional, practical
- 23:59Speaker 2: and mindful. And then the brackets She said mostly but
- 24:03Speaker 2: it's really cool. We're all doing our best, right. I agree.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I love the sound of this, Jessica.
- 24:09Speaker 4: So Leah is taking advantage of Christmas clubs, saying I have.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Beating back the Christmas Club. This is the first time
- 24:15Speaker 2: I'm hearing about it. Really, this is something that I
- 24:18Speaker 2: remember it being massive when I was little, when I said,
- 24:21Speaker 2: Chris God like. I can see the logo in my head,
- 24:24Speaker 2: but I can't fully remember what it is. Like these
- 24:26Speaker 2: boxes that would come at Christmas time, kind of like
- 24:29Speaker 2: Marley Spoon, but for Christmas, and you would select them
- 24:31Speaker 2: at the start of the year and start paying them
- 24:34Speaker 2: off throughout the year, So like a couple of bucks
- 24:36Speaker 2: every week and then the week of Christmas, your Chrisco
- 24:40Speaker 2: order would arrive. It could be like if you bought
- 24:42Speaker 2: the Boogie boxes, like toys and gifts and whatnot. Cool,
- 24:45Speaker 2: but it would also be like the Christmas ham, the
- 24:47Speaker 2: Christmas veggies, all of the food and drink and whatnot
- 24:51Speaker 2: that you wanted for Christmas, but you'd paid it off
- 24:54Speaker 2: during the year, so you didn't have this big like
- 24:57Speaker 2: Christmas expense. And I feel like Christmas clubs used to
- 25:00Speaker 2: be a massive It's like Layby Layby used to be
- 25:02Speaker 2: a massive thing. Oh I love labor. I remember going
- 25:05Speaker 2: into Target with my mum to pay off bits of layby,
- 25:08Speaker 2: I know, and it was really exciting.
- 25:10Speaker 4: All because you like see the item and by the
- 25:13Speaker 4: time you get there.
- 25:14Speaker 2: You used to like trot up to the back of yore.
- 25:16Speaker 2: It was like the Layby window and then your mom
- 25:18Speaker 2: would be like, oh, I'm going to put X down
- 25:19Speaker 2: and you'd be like, oh, so we don't get it today,
- 25:21Speaker 2: and Mom's like, no, no, no, we're just making a payment.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I'd be like, damn, I know, but it's such a
- 25:25Speaker 2: good way to do it. It's smart. Yeah, it's really
- 25:27Speaker 2: really smart. But tell me more about Lee's Christmas clubs.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Okay, so Leah says, I have an IgA and Maya
- 25:32Speaker 4: Christmas Club account.
- 25:33Speaker 2: I love the Maya account. They have a lot of
- 25:35Speaker 2: forty percent off sales on at the moment and maybe
- 25:38Speaker 2: even year round.
- 25:39Speaker 4: This is my first year with an IgA Christmas account.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Looking forward to getting the Christmas food and some left
- 25:44Speaker 4: over to put a couple of food hampers together for friends.
- 25:47Speaker 2: That's so nice, that's so cool. I did not even
- 25:49Speaker 2: know there was a thing. I'm going to look this up,
- 25:51Speaker 2: I think, look it up and do some research. But
- 25:53Speaker 2: also we know from TikTok yes that supermarket prices often
- 25:59Speaker 2: go like one week on sale, one week not on sale,
- 26:02Speaker 2: one week on sale, one week not on sale. And
- 26:04Speaker 2: I can almost guarantee you that these smart choice word
- 26:07Speaker 2: people have decided that the week of Christmas, there are
- 26:10Speaker 2: probably not going to be that many sales on all
- 26:12Speaker 2: of the foods that we want for Christmas. But you
- 26:15Speaker 2: could probably pre purchase a lot of things, like if
- 26:17Speaker 2: you're going to get a Christmas ham, pick it up
- 26:19Speaker 2: when it's on sale and chuck it in the fridge
- 26:21Speaker 2: and leave it there until you need it for Christmas.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Because those things keep. I mean, probably don't buy the
- 26:26Speaker 2: brocolini because that will wild. But like, can you make
- 26:29Speaker 2: your Christmas list or the grocery shopping list for Christmas
- 26:33Speaker 2: early and then maybe take it every time you're going shopping,
- 26:36Speaker 2: so that ideally you'd get everything on sale, like the
- 26:39Speaker 2: cranberry jam that doesn't even go in the fridge, you know,
- 26:42Speaker 2: like you could put that in the cupboard. Yeah, collecting
- 26:45Speaker 2: things you neither gravy nor worries, Like, is there like
- 26:48Speaker 2: pav Mex do you buying? I don't know, Like are
- 26:50Speaker 2: there things you can purchase and put to the side
- 26:52Speaker 2: while they're on sale? Yes? Yes, yes, exactly, especially Boxing day.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Oh my god's good. I have another one though, that
- 26:57Speaker 2: one was from me. Oh yeah, please a free tip.
- 26:59Speaker 2: You go charge the next one, thank you. Anna has
- 27:02Speaker 2: a free one, she says. I like to do opinion
- 27:04Speaker 2: surveys and focus groups throughout the year to get vouchers
- 27:07Speaker 2: which then pay for all of the food and presents
- 27:09Speaker 2: at Christmas. That's good idea. And then Linda, she said,
- 27:12Speaker 2: she uses the Snooper app for extra cash. I've never
- 27:15Speaker 2: heard of it either. She does an odd task while
- 27:18Speaker 2: she's out shopping. This is her spending money for her
- 27:21Speaker 2: niece and nephew. And also, don't forget to use shop
- 27:24Speaker 2: back money. Yes, oh my god, I love shopping. Literally,
- 27:26Speaker 2: now is the time to check your accounts and cash
- 27:29Speaker 2: out any of the cash so that you can use
- 27:31Speaker 2: it for Christmas. Yeah, so true. I always forget it there,
- 27:33Speaker 2: but I have like eighty bucks in there that's going
- 27:35Speaker 2: to take the pressure off. Oh my god, I love it.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Okay, So next time we have Sarah, Sarah is spreading
- 27:39Speaker 4: the cost and says, grab bits and pieces for the
- 27:42Speaker 4: Christmas table slash banquet in the lead up.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Lots of things are non perishable or freezer friendly, and
- 27:47Speaker 2: it helps spread the cost out. I wish that I'd
- 27:50Speaker 2: seen your list of things that you were bringing to
- 27:52Speaker 2: the table before I started yapping on this podcast. So
- 27:55Speaker 2: that's smart. I'm just talking about picking stuff up on sale,
- 27:58Speaker 2: but like spreading the cost out throughout, you know, the
- 28:01Speaker 2: month lead up to Christmas. Exactly smart. And here's some
- 28:05Speaker 2: money saving hacks that also save the planet, which of
- 28:08Speaker 2: course we love. At Cheese on the Money, Betty says
- 28:12Speaker 2: fabric wrapping used every year since birth for our two grandchildren.
- 28:16Speaker 2: They're the only two gifts that we purchase. Isn't that cute?
- 28:19Speaker 2: Like you could a spotlight and like pick out some
- 28:22Speaker 2: cute Christmas fabric and use that as wrapping every year.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's really cute. That is really cute.
- 28:29Speaker 2: That is really cute. And here's a really clever one
- 28:31Speaker 2: from Emmy. Emmy said, I bought one of those small
- 28:33Speaker 2: potted real Christmas trees from Bunnings for thirty bucks four
- 28:37Speaker 2: years ago, and each Christmas we bring it inside for
- 28:40Speaker 2: the month of December and then give it a huge
- 28:43Speaker 2: water and keep it in our courtyard for the rest
- 28:45Speaker 2: of the year. Oh my god, Emmy, please tell me
- 28:47Speaker 2: how you keep those alive, because I do the same
- 28:49Speaker 2: killer everything every year. My Christmas tree dies, I know,
- 28:51Speaker 2: but Emmy's done it five Christmas is now. Oh my god,
- 28:54Speaker 2: that is really clever. I like that a lot. I
- 28:57Speaker 2: just kill a lot of things. So I don't know
- 28:59Speaker 2: if that's the best tip for me, totally. I love
- 29:01Speaker 2: that for you, Yes, I love that. Okay, So I'm
- 29:04Speaker 2: all here for this next one, Nicole says, dare I
- 29:06Speaker 2: suggest but the classic regift, as long as it's not
- 29:09Speaker 2: half used, why not regift to someone else who it suits?
- 29:13Speaker 2: Why what if it is half used, why not still
- 29:15Speaker 2: half to go? Yeah, that's so true. Here's my half
- 29:19Speaker 2: used soap. I've given a half pack of digestives to
- 29:21Speaker 2: someone before, and I would have taken it froft was
- 29:24Speaker 2: it the chuck was digest I know, I wouldn't see
- 29:29Speaker 2: that that that's we are easily pleased. Yes, that's true.
- 29:33Speaker 4: When it comes to actually buying presents, Sally says, I
- 29:36Speaker 4: do keep an eye on Audie specials for chocolate boxes
- 29:38Speaker 4: and cookies throughout the year. Last month they had these
- 29:41Speaker 4: amazing cookie tin boxes almost four hundred and fifty grands
- 29:44Speaker 4: for four dollars ninety nine.
- 29:46Speaker 2: So I stocked up as Christmas gifts for my team.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Oh that's so smart. Thirteen members in total, so yeah
- 29:51Speaker 2: to me, Matt though, that's thirteen presents for sixty five bucks.
- 29:55Speaker 2: That's a pretty serious money win. So true. I don't
- 29:58Speaker 2: hay figure out so quickly. I wrote it down earlier. Oh,
- 30:01Speaker 2: I see that makes sense. But also I feel like
- 30:05Speaker 2: Audi's underrated, like their cho like their biscuits. Do you
- 30:10Speaker 2: know what you could do? Buy their biscuits? Put it
- 30:12Speaker 2: in a nice little basket yeap bam. Also, if anybody
- 30:16Speaker 2: needs a good Audi wine recommendation. La Mule Rose Okay, iconic,
- 30:22Speaker 2: It's very very good. La Mule Love Mule. It's got
- 30:25Speaker 2: a donkey on it. That makes sense. Okay.
- 30:27Speaker 4: The next one, I absolutely love this genius one from Zoe.
- 30:30Speaker 4: She says, check your health fun to see what extras.
- 30:32Speaker 2: You can claim.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Oh okay, I'm with AHM, and you can claim Cancer
- 30:36Speaker 4: Council UV products under health improvements.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Needless to say, the kids will be getting swimming togs
- 30:41Speaker 2: this year. That's so. That's so clever. Sunscreen that's something
- 30:46Speaker 2: also Sanda used to buy us.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Oh my god, I've been avoiding buying it for so
- 30:49Speaker 4: long because I'm like, oh, I just kind of thought
- 30:51Speaker 4: it right now, but I think I will buy it,
- 30:53Speaker 4: just try and see if I can claim it.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I love that. That's really clever. Thank you so much, though,
- 30:57Speaker 2: What else have you got? Okay, you've got another one.
- 31:00Speaker 4: X one comes from Brie, who says, also lots of
- 31:02Speaker 4: health funds have rewards slash perks programs. I bought a
- 31:06Speaker 4: lot of gift cards discounted by my ones year.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I love that and I feel like that's really smart.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Last year I actually got a gift card from my
- 31:14Speaker 2: niece and nephew. They did a joint gift card. You like,
- 31:17Speaker 2: handwritten we all love like a little voucher. But the
- 31:20Speaker 2: voucher was that I could babysit them for one day. Ah,
- 31:24Speaker 2: that's very cute. That's a very good deal, isn't It's
- 31:26Speaker 2: some work for you. I don't know. I need to
- 31:28Speaker 2: probably take that up with my sister in law, but
- 31:30Speaker 2: I feel that they think that is a very good gift.
- 31:33Speaker 2: That is so so hypothetically, if you want a gift,
- 31:37Speaker 2: anybody a voucher for Christmas, just DIY make at home. Yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 2: I feel like it served a lot of people. Oh
- 31:44Speaker 2: my god, I wish I had that confidence to give
- 31:45Speaker 2: someone a gift, just like a handridden note me saying
- 31:48Speaker 2: even me out with me present my present. I do
- 31:52Speaker 2: feel like it was driven by my sister in law,
- 31:54Speaker 2: but I'm not mad because I do love my niece
- 31:56Speaker 2: and nephew and I still haven't cashed that in properly.
- 32:00Speaker 2: There you go. You could regift that one. Actually, I
- 32:02Speaker 2: know it's neighbus I could. So I got this for
- 32:09Speaker 2: my niece and nephew. Yes, you can have them for
- 32:11Speaker 2: a day. Perfect, It's only god. They'd love that they
- 32:13Speaker 2: would love that, and you know who else is also
- 32:15Speaker 2: about the experience. Yes, Susan from our community. She said,
- 32:19Speaker 2: I have my eighty year old mum, adult children and
- 32:22Speaker 2: partners with me for Christmas this year, so I'm taking
- 32:25Speaker 2: them on a wine tour on Boxing day. Boo gee.
- 32:28Speaker 2: But also like genius. Yeah, it's all that quality time,
- 32:32Speaker 2: isn't it exactly? And then one from Rachel. Rachel said,
- 32:35Speaker 2: you can buy these silicon molds from Bunnings. They're designed
- 32:38Speaker 2: for resin, but you can buy a five dollar bag
- 32:41Speaker 2: of plaster and make as many gifts as you want
- 32:44Speaker 2: for twenty two bucks. You can then give them as
- 32:47Speaker 2: paint your own. Yoh, you could paint them yourself and
- 32:51Speaker 2: add paint into the plaster and you could get like
- 32:53Speaker 2: a cute pink heart or something that's a fantastic idea.
- 32:56Speaker 2: You can make personalized ball balls with that. I su
- 32:58Speaker 2: maybe I've been separations this year too, because, as I said,
- 33:02Speaker 2: I feel like I've gone boomer Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
- 33:05Speaker 2: love that. It's really clever.
- 33:06Speaker 4: So a lot of community members are saving money by
- 33:08Speaker 4: baking gifts, propagating their own plants.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Fiona is doing acts of service, which is a great one,
- 33:13Speaker 2: giving your time instead of money, like my niece and
- 33:15Speaker 2: nephew did. They have really hooked me up back totally.
- 33:17Speaker 2: They've given you your own time back to spend with
- 33:20Speaker 2: them exactly. And as a mom, this one is probably
- 33:22Speaker 2: the best gift that you can get. Belle says, I
- 33:25Speaker 2: look after my nephew so my bro and his wife
- 33:28Speaker 2: can have a date night. God like being reverse engineering
- 33:31Speaker 2: so I can see my baby Harvey giving basically everyone
- 33:34Speaker 2: in the family. You get to babysit me voucher for
- 33:38Speaker 2: Christmas this year. And also Hazel says she reminded me
- 33:43Speaker 2: that she makes flaky sea salt in cute jars with
- 33:46Speaker 2: rosemary from our garden. I like that. Ye. Do you
- 33:48Speaker 2: know what I did last year? I posted my rosemary
- 33:51Speaker 2: salt recipe, which is like rosemary, there's some garlic and
- 33:54Speaker 2: stuff in it. It's so good. My family already asking me, like, oh,
- 33:58Speaker 2: we're getting more rosemary salts. Thank God, that's a great idea.
- 34:01Speaker 2: It's in the Facebook community, but I'll make sure that
- 34:03Speaker 2: I repost it because it was really cheap, Like you
- 34:06Speaker 2: don't need to like buy the flaky salt, Like that's
- 34:08Speaker 2: not what I'm about. Because flaky salt. Beck, it's expensive.
- 34:11Speaker 2: It's expensive. You just need literal salt because you end
- 34:14Speaker 2: up putting it in a food process or anything. Rude
- 34:16Speaker 2: and also sorry, it's beautiful flaky salt, but it hurts
- 34:20Speaker 2: your fingers when you got to crush it up my hands.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Oh no, you put it in the food processor. Do
- 34:24Speaker 2: you break up your flaky salt when you eat it?
- 34:26Speaker 2: Is that what everyone does? I don't think so. I
- 34:28Speaker 2: love the chunks of so oh.
- 34:30Speaker 4: I see, that's probably why they're flaky, because that's how
- 34:33Speaker 4: people eat it anyway.
- 34:34Speaker 1: God.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Now.
- 34:35Speaker 4: The next one comes from Rebecca great name. Rebecca says
- 34:38Speaker 4: she makes cookie jars with dry ingredients and instructions to
- 34:41Speaker 4: bake them.
- 34:41Speaker 2: That's oh my gosh. I've seen that online before where
- 34:44Speaker 2: you get like the beautiful Mason jars, fill it with
- 34:46Speaker 2: the flour in like layers. It's like one of those
- 34:48Speaker 2: sand jars. Yeah. Tag, Oh, she's a smart girl. That's
- 34:51Speaker 2: so clever.
- 34:52Speaker 4: This next one comes from memory. She says she's taking
- 34:54Speaker 4: up crocheting and everyone is getting bucket hats this year.
- 34:57Speaker 2: That's actually really cute. To another one, she says, beach
- 35:00Speaker 2: towels and her go to as they're always on sale somewhere.
- 35:04Speaker 2: That's true genius. And Danny is making homemade kits like
- 35:08Speaker 2: ice cream decorating kids, Oh, hamper hambers or sauces and spices. Yeah,
- 35:13Speaker 2: I love that. I love that. And then Peter chimed
- 35:15Speaker 2: in and said, I'm actually going to create a Christmas
- 35:17Speaker 2: cookbook for all the adults in the family. Great that love.
- 35:20Speaker 2: That sounds like a lot of work, but good for
- 35:22Speaker 2: you is. But like maybe you could go get like,
- 35:25Speaker 2: you know, your uncle's favorite recipe, your aunt's put it
- 35:28Speaker 2: all together and then you have a family cookbook. Oh
- 35:31Speaker 2: my god, that is so so really cute. Yeah, I
- 35:34Speaker 2: love it. Ah. And then recipes don't get lost. Yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 2: much of that with my friends here. That's actually so smart,
- 35:39Speaker 2: like a book of all your favorite recipes as a group. Yeah,
- 35:42Speaker 2: I love that. All right, I think that we are
- 35:45Speaker 2: nearly done here, but I just want to wrap up
- 35:47Speaker 2: by saying, we know that in this cost of living crisis,
- 35:50Speaker 2: it is even more tight for a lot of you
- 35:52Speaker 2: this year, right, and Christmas might feel more stressful than usual,
- 35:56Speaker 2: but as we know in this community. Beck, one of
- 35:59Speaker 2: my favorites saying is when in doubt, zoom out and Christmas. Honestly,
- 36:04Speaker 2: it's about connection. It's about warmth, it's about those cozys
- 36:06Speaker 2: that you were talking about before. It's about being there
- 36:09Speaker 2: for one another. So maybe this Christmas is not going
- 36:12Speaker 2: to be as big or as flashy as previous ones,
- 36:15Speaker 2: or as flashy as you kind of hoped. I know
- 36:17Speaker 2: that so many of us kind of like go on,
- 36:19Speaker 2: but I really want it to be X y Z.
- 36:21Speaker 2: You know what, That's perfectly okay. What is mattering the
- 36:24Speaker 2: most is that we are here. We get to be together,
- 36:28Speaker 2: and we get to find joy in the small things,
- 36:30Speaker 2: and to me, that's what makes this season truly special.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Totally agree. I do want to anowoge.
- 36:36Speaker 4: There are some people that probably don't have the people
- 36:39Speaker 4: around them for Christmas, and it can be really sad.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But just know that we are here your community. We
- 36:43Speaker 2: are hundred we are your friends. But I think it's
- 36:45Speaker 2: a perfect place to leave it. If you want to
- 36:46Speaker 2: see the fullest of shoes in the money communities Christmas hacks,
- 36:50Speaker 2: head over to our Facebook group. We've got some great
- 36:52Speaker 2: Christmas hacks to share. I love that. So if you're
- 36:54Speaker 2: on your own on Christmas, we're here for you. You're not
- 36:58Speaker 2: technically alone, You're with us in sight spirit. And just
- 37:00Speaker 2: like I did last year, I'm going to drop a
- 37:02Speaker 2: Christmas episode on Christmas Day so that maybe we could
- 37:05Speaker 2: go for like a walk chingether of song perfect. It's
- 37:08Speaker 2: I love this for us all right, guys, We will
- 37:09Speaker 2: see you on Friday. Have a good day. Bye, guys.
