- 0:00SPEAKER_00: There is no introduction into the podcast this week.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: It is because things are changing.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I have decided to rebrand the podcast.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: So if you're a 10-foot-tall Teresa that's a fan of the podcast and been listening, you'll notice that the images and all that have changed to simplified sparky marketing rather than simplified trading marketing.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: The reason is I am practicing what I preach.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: What I preach is to be niche and to work with a niche.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And I was not doing what I was preaching.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Now I'm working with somebody who's been an absolute game changer for this business that it's going to make for you the electrician, it's going to make this whole program absolutely unbelievable for your business because it's purely focusing on electricians.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Now, if you are outside of the trade, if you're a plumber, Tyler, Jib, Carpenter, whatever trade you are, by all means keep listening.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: All this content is going to be relevant to your business.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Just unplug electrical and put one of your services in there.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You are going to be inferior to electricians, I'm afraid, but just keep listening.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: It's all good.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: You can subscribe.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it is it's for the best.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And what is brilliant about this, and why I'm excited about this being niche is now I can throw loads of electrical jargon around, and my ideal client will understand it.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: So there's so many takeaways from this.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So for you, the listener, in regards to what I practice about being niche, like this is what I'm talking about is I could have said, look, fuck it, I work with all tradies, I work with carpenters, bakers, candlestick makers, if that's even still a trade.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And I can work with everybody.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: What that does is it stops me working with exactly who I want to work, and that's electricians.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: The reason I want to work with electricians is because what I speak about in the podcast and what I teach and what I'm preaching about, I do all those fucking things within my business.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: They're done, they're tested, they're proven, they work.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And now you could try some of these things with other businesses.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: They will work, but it's going to be different.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I'm going to have to approach people differently because the language isn't going to be the same when we're talking about electrical methodology to, I don't know, cleaning windows, doing skirting boards, changing taps and all of that.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: So I just rather do what I do.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: So that's the first lesson is be niche.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Just stick to your niche, trust your gut feel, and just stick with your niche in your industry.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Do a specific type of work and you just become the expert in that.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I back myself as an expert in the residential space and this whole flywheel system, it works because I'm I'm walking, talking, proof of it all.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So do what you do best and work with the clients that you want to work with.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I want to work with Sparky, it's as simple as that.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Now, the core reason I changed the name of this podcast is obviously I want to work with electricians.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Now, let's take, for instance, if you're a Sparky listening to this and you were trolling on Spotify or iTunes or whatever, looking for a podcast, you typed in, I don't know, marketing for electricians.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Odds are in a few weeks this is going to start ranking for that.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Because it's very specific, it's hyper niche.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: That if you're a Sparky and you've seen simplified trading marketing, you might just scroll on a bit I got generics to all trades.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: I am speaking directly to who I want to work with, and that is Sparkies slash electricians.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And that is that's why I changed this as well.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: It just makes so much sense.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And this is where I harp on about messaging and why messaging is so powerful within your business of talking to exactly who you want to attract, and then you attract them into your business by speaking directly to them.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: When you're too broad, you attract people by doing random acts of marketing, they happen to stumble into your business.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: You so happen to do the service that they're looking for, but it was coincidental.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: But when you're more targeted, the messaging is more targeted, you will get those ideal clients in the door.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Lastly, renaming and just a lesson.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: One of my experiences and just a lesson as well is when I started my business, I was too cool for school, and it just was called one word, and I was like, Yeah, cool.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Everyone's gonna know what that is.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: And like, who the hell do they think I was?
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Seal.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: I didn't have electrical behind it, and it's not obvious what I did or what I was doing at the time, but it it didn't take long for me to realize that how stupid that was.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: And you need to have if you're an electrician, you have to have electrical or electrical services, electrical something or other in your name.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: You have to have it.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: It just makes it obvious to what you do.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: I spoke about this on a previous podcast of just cute versus clever.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: I spoke about an example of this in a previous podcast of a plumbing company calling themselves Aqua Zeus.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Now, if you pull that apart, Aqua is the Latin for water and Zeus is a Greek god.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: So what they're trying to get at is water gods, but that doesn't make any fucking sense.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Just call yourself Zeus Plumbing or something like that.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: At least there's plumbing in the title.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: So it's never too late to rebrand your company as well.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Depending on your size, if you're a small company, just start acting out, I'd highly recommend changing your name, putting electrical on it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: You don't have to change all your bells and whistles.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: If you are registered as a proprietary limited company, you can then just call yourself whatever name electrical, and then you can just change your website, change your logo, change change your uniform, emails, stuff like that, and away you go.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: But it's highly recommended you do that, otherwise, it's just gonna be a big saga.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Like you look at companies like Apple and Google and stuff like that, those companies are huge.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Don't compare yourself to them.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You're just a small fish in a fucking small pond at the moment.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: And until you're at that level of Google and Apple, if you're at the level of Google and Apple, you will not be listening to this podcast.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Put it that way.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: It's never too late to change your branding and your company name.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: I did it a year in, it was easy for me because I just slapped electrical after my name.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: But I had the ignorance to think that I could get away with just being one word like seal.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's never too late.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: But these are just little lessons.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Um, looking forward to pumping more content out there.
