- Cindy Marler: When it's time for company to come over, how hard do you clean your house? I guess it depends on the company, right? If it's your sibling or something, but what about if it's someone that's never been to your home? How much are you getting your house ready? What about when someone gets in your car unexpectedly? How quickly are you scurrying and throwing things from the front seat to the back seat? What about when you're about to maybe pick someone up from the airport? Do you make sure and get your car washed or wash your car? What about when you're going to meet someone for the first time? Do you pay extra special attention to your outfit or your hair? Maybe throw a mint in, I don't know. But what if we occasionally treated our own family as if they were the company? Just occasionally, because that's not a way of life, right? There has to be a rhythm where we get to relax and lean into just a different pace. But what if occasionally you treated your own family like they were the company? Like they were the guest. When I do this, I always say, Well, I prepared a place for you. I prepared a place for you because that's what the Lord says for us. He's prepared a place for us. And when we have company come over, whether it's in our house or in our car or in our presence, that's how we do it. We're preparing a place for them. I'm preparing a place to show you that you are special here. And I want you to know you're special because I spent extra time so you would know that I was thinking about you even before you got here. Or maybe it's last minute as they're walking to your car and you're throwing things in the backseat. But what if we occasionally treated our own family as if they were the company? We're gonna go a step further. What if you occasionally treated yourself like you were the company? What if you what about all my solo people out there? I am going through a divorce, almost divorced, and I find myself eating alone. I never had. I had met my soon to be ex-husband when I was 19. So there weren't a lot of opportunities to eat alone. And occasionally I prepare my food on a plate and sit at the table with a placemat by myself as if I were the guest. Just occasionally, a lot of the times I'm just grabbing a bowl of oatmeal, you know, get my laptop open, I'm doing work. But sometimes I treat myself as the guest. So for just for today, I want you to think about treating your own family or yourself as the guest, as the company, and prepare a place for them and prepare a place. For yourself. I love you guys. I'll talk to you tomorrow.
