- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money.
- 0:02Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:23Speaker 1: for millennials who want financial freedom. Today is the final
- 0:27Speaker 1: day of the financial year, which means tomorrow is the
- 0:30Speaker 1: start of a brand new one.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's also my birthday.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Stop it.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It's the end of financial year, and it's also my birthday.
- 0:36Speaker 1: That is like the perfectly timed B day for a
- 0:39Speaker 1: financial Advisor's actually insane.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Also, how how many tickets have I got on myself
- 0:43Speaker 3: to like not even let you finish the for to
- 0:45Speaker 3: be like, it's my birthday, it's.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Important, it's important thirty today. So now everyone has got
- 0:50Speaker 1: that written down, let's actually get to you, let's get
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the episode. So we did think we would dedicate
- 0:56Speaker 1: today's episode to talking you through the tools that you'll
- 0:58Speaker 1: need if you're in the market for a midyear money reset,
- 1:02Speaker 1: which I feel like I could definitely be getting around myself.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I'm so here for this, and as a financial advisor,
- 1:08Speaker 3: and obviously someone who is, i'd say, just like mildly
- 1:12Speaker 3: passionate about finance, mildly I get to talk about this
- 1:15Speaker 3: on my thirtieth birthday, got to B day? What a
- 1:18Speaker 3: better way to celebrate absolutely now.
- 1:21Speaker 1: My name is Georgia King, and showning me on the
- 1:24Speaker 1: other end of the desk is Miss Victoria Divine talk
- 1:28Speaker 1: us through it. Why is the first of July a
- 1:30Speaker 1: good time to reset our money mindset? Because so many
- 1:34Speaker 1: times we fall off the bandwagon halfway through the year.
- 1:37Speaker 1: It is so easy to set goals at the start
- 1:39Speaker 1: of the year and then by June thirty we've kind
- 1:42Speaker 1: of like whatever, like I'll work it out later.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And I feel like having a date that we
- 1:48Speaker 3: reset on is going to be really empowering so that
- 1:50Speaker 3: we can stay on track for the next six months.
- 1:52Speaker 3: It's also a really good time to check in around
- 1:54Speaker 3: your goals and how you're tracking. Because if you said
- 1:57Speaker 3: to yourself, Okay, I'm going to save ten thousand dollars
- 1:59Speaker 3: this year, and by the thirtieth of June you don't
- 2:02Speaker 3: have five thousand dollars, we really need to check in
- 2:04Speaker 3: because if you're planning on getting to that ten grand,
- 2:08Speaker 3: like maybe you had plans to be more aggressive in
- 2:10Speaker 3: the last six months of that saving plan, but if
- 2:12Speaker 3: you didn't, unfortunately, you're just going to be disappointed. Come
- 2:16Speaker 3: December thirty first, that's last day of to say, yep,
- 2:20Speaker 3: come with actual New Year, and you'll just be feeling
- 2:23Speaker 3: a bit flat. Whereas right now we have the power
- 2:26Speaker 3: to change the plan, and if you're not on track
- 2:28Speaker 3: to meet a goal, we can update that plan or
- 2:30Speaker 3: change the goal or change the timeline so that we
- 2:33Speaker 3: don't get disappointed. And I think it's really important to
- 2:36Speaker 3: be on track and aware of what we're doing and
- 2:39Speaker 3: not just set goals once a year, because that's bland,
- 2:41Speaker 3: and I genuinely don't believe we should have to set
- 2:43Speaker 3: goals at certain periods of time, Like, if you want
- 2:45Speaker 3: to do it, set the goal, get it done, do
- 2:47Speaker 3: it now. But for a lot of people, we like
- 2:49Speaker 3: to have a specific date to get in order, and
- 2:51Speaker 3: like we like feeling like New Year, knew me. We
- 2:54Speaker 3: get that twice a year because it's a financial year,
- 2:56Speaker 3: my friend totally.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And so why do you think that that is such
- 3:01Speaker 1: a big thing for so many people? I know for
- 3:03Speaker 1: me it is. You know, if I'm like, all right,
- 3:05Speaker 1: start the gym, go on every day on Monday, like
- 3:07Speaker 1: you actually do that, though I know it was a
- 3:10Speaker 1: bad example relat she goes to the gym literally.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Every single day.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Guy makes me sound like lose that. But the idea
- 3:17Speaker 1: of like i'll start it on Monday, I'll start it
- 3:19Speaker 1: on jan first, I'll start it at the new financial year.
- 3:23Speaker 1: What is it about that fresh start that we're so
- 3:26Speaker 1: attracted to.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I think we just like having structure. People like feeling
- 3:30Speaker 3: like there's a clean slate. We love the feeling of
- 3:34Speaker 3: new year and new me like, we love feeling like
- 3:36Speaker 3: we've got another opportunity to succeed. And I think that
- 3:39Speaker 3: that's a really positive thing. But I also really don't
- 3:42Speaker 3: like the idea that if you've quote messed up, that
- 3:46Speaker 3: you need to hold yourself hostage over that. Like so
- 3:48Speaker 3: many people like, oh, well, I guess I've absolutely screwed
- 3:52Speaker 3: up this month. I'll just start again next month. I
- 3:54Speaker 3: don't subscribe to that notion at all. It's kind of
- 3:57Speaker 3: like if someone's been on a diet for a really
- 3:58Speaker 3: long time and then they go on a bit of
- 4:00Speaker 3: a bender with their friends and eat like fifty miles
- 4:03Speaker 3: bars in one sitting, and then the next day they're like,
- 4:05Speaker 3: you know what, I've screwed it up, Like I'm done
- 4:08Speaker 3: for Like no, you're not. Just get back on track today, Like, yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 3: there's been a bit of a bump in the road,
- 4:12Speaker 3: but it's not the end of the world, And like
- 4:14Speaker 3: sometimes we do need to go through that to remember
- 4:17Speaker 3: that that goal was really important to us and we
- 4:19Speaker 3: are getting back on track. So I think for a
- 4:21Speaker 3: lot of us, it's just a mental hurdle and it's
- 4:23Speaker 3: something that helps us reset and if we can all
- 4:26Speaker 3: do it together, I think we're more likely to succeed.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Love that teamwork makes the dream work.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Wow, that was really inspirational. Yeah, t shirt.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Put it on a cushion.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, on one of those like wood planks that mums
- 4:40Speaker 3: can put in their kitchens.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Oh, Joey has one that says, we've laugh love. How
- 4:45Speaker 1: do you know?
- 4:46Speaker 3: Does it actually yeah? Oh no, joe what are you doing?
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, Joey, poor taste. She actually has good taste. She
- 4:53Speaker 1: we had it at the old house.
- 4:56Speaker 3: She's to actually say, Yeah, I'm gonna laugh.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I think I have an photo of me with it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'll post coast that in the group. Bless you. Joey
- 5:04Speaker 1: shall be listening. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, no judgment, Okay,
- 5:08Speaker 1: be back to it. Would you say that it is
- 5:11Speaker 1: quite normal for people to experience these money ruts at
- 5:14Speaker 1: this time of year.
- 5:15Speaker 3: No, absolutely, it is because everything's overwhelming, like especially here
- 5:19Speaker 3: in Australia, it's cold. Yep, we're at home more, we're
- 5:23Speaker 3: not going out as often as we were before. We're
- 5:26Speaker 3: feeling a little bit flat because I think a lot
- 5:28Speaker 3: of us actually experience emotional change with the weather, which
- 5:32Speaker 3: is very, very common, and we should talk about that more.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Like I feel like people just in general are a
- 5:36Speaker 3: little bit flatter come winter, and that's okay. There's actually
- 5:39Speaker 3: a lot of science behind that. I'm not just.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Saying seasonal depression.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it's called seasonal depression, and I'm not saying everybody
- 5:45Speaker 3: has it, but I do think that we're all a
- 5:46Speaker 3: little bit just like flat anyway. I do think that
- 5:50Speaker 3: it is a nice period of time because six months
- 5:52Speaker 3: is a long period of time if you set goals
- 5:54Speaker 3: at the start of the year, Like six months is
- 5:57Speaker 3: actually a very significant period of time to have not
- 6:00Speaker 3: checked in with yourself if you haven't. But also it's
- 6:03Speaker 3: just a nice time to check in and say, hey,
- 6:04Speaker 3: even if I am achieving my goals right now, I've
- 6:07Speaker 3: been working hard on them for the last six months,
- 6:10Speaker 3: where am I going now, Like are they still of
- 6:13Speaker 3: value to me? Are they steal things I want to do,
- 6:15Speaker 3: and you know, a lot of us have been very
- 6:18Speaker 3: significantly impacted by COVID. Yay, maybe you had a travel
- 6:23Speaker 3: goal and now that's going to be pushed out even further,
- 6:25Speaker 3: like what are your goals in the interim? Should we
- 6:28Speaker 3: be changing what that looks like to create more financial
- 6:30Speaker 3: security in the short term instead of having a really
- 6:33Speaker 3: long term goal. So it's just a really good time
- 6:35Speaker 3: to check in. And I think that often we feel
- 6:38Speaker 3: really inspired by the new year, new me vibes, because
- 6:41Speaker 3: I know I am, and I know that I'm like, yeah, cool,
- 6:44Speaker 3: a fresh slate, and I've always seen it that way
- 6:47Speaker 3: because I am in a June thirty baby. But also
- 6:50Speaker 3: it's kind of like new financial year, like why can't
- 6:53Speaker 3: I reset my finances now and have a really good
- 6:56Speaker 3: financial year to come?
- 6:58Speaker 1: Do you think as well, that being in Australia in
- 7:02Speaker 1: June July that is bang on in the middle of winter,
- 7:05Speaker 1: do you think there is a tendency for people to
- 7:08Speaker 1: spend more on like treating themselves at this time of
- 7:11Speaker 1: year or is that more of a summer thing because
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're like out and about more.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I don't know, if I'm honest, we should do some
- 7:17Speaker 3: research into that when do you most treat yourself Because
- 7:21Speaker 3: I'm pretty good at treating myself with an apparol with
- 7:23Speaker 3: my girlfriends in the middle of summer, Yeah, very good
- 7:26Speaker 3: at that. Arguably it's one of my best talents. But
- 7:30Speaker 3: in winter, I'm far more likely to order Uber eats,
- 7:32Speaker 3: that's true dinner. Yeah, and like stay in and be like, oh,
- 7:35Speaker 3: I can't be bothered. Like it's raining, it's pouring outside,
- 7:38Speaker 3: I don't want to go to the supermarket, and like,
- 7:40Speaker 3: I'm really lucky to be able to do that. But
- 7:42Speaker 3: I also just think that maybe we treat ourselves in
- 7:45Speaker 3: different ways depending on this season. But I also think
- 7:47Speaker 3: it's just a good time to check in and just
- 7:50Speaker 3: check what's going on and how we can reset ourselves
- 7:53Speaker 3: and how we can track our goals better or you know,
- 7:55Speaker 3: create new habits if we really want to, or change
- 7:58Speaker 3: habits that aren't serving us anymore. And I think that
- 8:01Speaker 3: it's just a nice time and I want this podcast
- 8:04Speaker 3: to be a little bit of a reminder to be
- 8:05Speaker 3: like okay, cool, like sit down, even if it's two
- 8:07Speaker 3: or three goals that you just have a look at
- 8:09Speaker 3: or one goal, or even just to make a plan
- 8:11Speaker 3: for the last six months of the year that doesn't
- 8:14Speaker 3: feel as overwhelming as planning for the whole financial year.
- 8:17Speaker 3: So for me, it's just about creating new, better habits
- 8:20Speaker 3: that serve you.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And this doesn't just have to be for money either, right, No,
- 8:25Speaker 1: it can extend to a lot of other areas of
- 8:28Speaker 1: our lives.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, And I want everybody to just have goals
- 8:31Speaker 3: in general. And I think that that's such a common
- 8:34Speaker 3: misconception when you talk about financial advisors as well, because
- 8:37Speaker 3: I actually work with my clients on all their goals.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I don't work with my clients on just finances, and
- 8:42Speaker 3: I think maybe some financial advisors don't do this. Maybe
- 8:46Speaker 3: I'm not the norm, but like, gee, if you're my client,
- 8:49Speaker 3: I would be like, okay, cool, what do you want
- 8:50Speaker 3: to achieve financially? Okay? But what about in life? What
- 8:53Speaker 3: does your career look like? What does everything else look like?
- 8:55Speaker 3: Or what are we working towards? Because I'm on the
- 8:57Speaker 3: journey with you and I know so much about you,
- 9:00Speaker 3: And like, even next week, I've got a meeting booked
- 9:02Speaker 3: in with one of my clients and I'm so excited
- 9:04Speaker 3: about it because she has just finished her Bachelor of
- 9:07Speaker 3: psych Sciences. What I did, Yeah, that she wants to
- 9:10Speaker 3: check in and just like have a chat about what
- 9:12Speaker 3: her plans are moving forward, because I think that I
- 9:16Speaker 3: become that sounding board for people where I know you
- 9:18Speaker 3: so intimately when it comes to finances, and more often
- 9:22Speaker 3: than not, that means that I have a really good
- 9:24Speaker 3: understanding of you personally as well, and maybe that leans
- 9:27Speaker 3: more towards me being a psych Like, let's be honest,
- 9:30Speaker 3: having a background in psychology does really help me here
- 9:33Speaker 3: so that I can have these conversations. But yeah, I
- 9:36Speaker 3: think it's about what goals do you have? Like do
- 9:38Speaker 3: you want to set another healthy habit? Do you want
- 9:40Speaker 3: to you know, say more positive things to yourself? Do
- 9:43Speaker 3: you want to you know, spend more time with friends
- 9:45Speaker 3: and family. Do you want to go in and walk
- 9:47Speaker 3: every single morning for your mental health? Like it could
- 9:50Speaker 3: be anything. It's just a good reminder to be like, hey,
- 9:53Speaker 3: tomorrow is July first, Yeah, what are you going to
- 9:56Speaker 3: do for yourself?
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:57Speaker 3: I think it's about putting yourself first like.
- 10:00Speaker 1: That, And we will talk about goal setting a little
- 10:02Speaker 1: later on in today's show. So B, how can we
- 10:06Speaker 1: tangibly assess how we've gone over the last financial year
- 10:10Speaker 1: or the last six months. So if you did set goals,
- 10:12Speaker 1: it's obviously a good time to be checking in and
- 10:15Speaker 1: looking back and saying did I achieve that?
- 10:17Speaker 3: And what did that mean? And I think that we
- 10:19Speaker 3: don't check in enough with ourselves. So I'm not saying regularly,
- 10:23Speaker 3: I mean you don't do it properly when you do
- 10:26Speaker 3: check in. So g if I said to you, have
- 10:28Speaker 3: you achieved your goal? You might go yes or no?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Like no, I want you to sit down and go, Okay,
- 10:33Speaker 3: I planned to save ten thousand dollars. And I use
- 10:35Speaker 3: this as an example because it's just an easy example
- 10:37Speaker 3: to apply it to plan to save ten thousand dollars
- 10:40Speaker 3: this year. It is now the end of June. Have
- 10:44Speaker 3: I saved five thousand? No? Okay? Taking that next step
- 10:48Speaker 3: and going why what has impacted me here? Have a
- 10:51Speaker 3: look back over those six months, like why did you
- 10:54Speaker 3: not achieve that goal in January of saving your first portion,
- 10:57Speaker 3: like that first thousand or whatever it was that you
- 10:59Speaker 3: set for yourself. Because if you're in that situation where
- 11:03Speaker 3: you're like, oh, I really I don't understand, like why
- 11:05Speaker 3: I haven't achieved this? Okay? Well, in January, maybe you
- 11:09Speaker 3: prioritized going out for dinner a bit more because it
- 11:11Speaker 3: was the middle of summer and you bought a festival ticket,
- 11:13Speaker 3: and that's why you didn't do it. Okay, Well, what
- 11:15Speaker 3: happened in February? All right, Well in February I did
- 11:18Speaker 3: something similar, but I went camping with friends and that
- 11:20Speaker 3: blew out my budget. And like, look at it that
- 11:22Speaker 3: way and have a look at maybe why you didn't
- 11:25Speaker 3: achieve that goal and what you chose instead, Because if
- 11:29Speaker 3: you chose something instead pretty consistently and it was socializing
- 11:33Speaker 3: with your friends, that might be a priority to you
- 11:36Speaker 3: that you hadn't identified in your budget and hadn't actually
- 11:39Speaker 3: allocated enough in your budget towards in the first place,
- 11:42Speaker 3: and that is potentially going to consistently push you off
- 11:45Speaker 3: track in the future as well. So let's look at
- 11:48Speaker 3: it and go, okay, well, gee, you really like socializing
- 11:50Speaker 3: with your friends, Let's make sure that's allocated for Maybe
- 11:54Speaker 3: we need to find somewhere else we can say from
- 11:56Speaker 3: to still achieve this goal without compromising the thing that
- 11:59Speaker 3: you keep prioritizing over the goal that you say you
- 12:02Speaker 3: want to achieve. So for me, it's about just checking in,
- 12:05Speaker 3: but on a deeper level than actually going, Oh, okay,
- 12:09Speaker 3: I didn't achieve it. I guess I'll get back on track.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Like that's not enough. You're not teaching yourself why that happened.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And if we don't know why it happened, we can't
- 12:17Speaker 3: fix it. And I know that if you can't fix
- 12:20Speaker 3: it by December, you're not going to achieve that goal.
- 12:22Speaker 3: And I don't want to be negative, but at the
- 12:24Speaker 3: end of the day, my job is to help you,
- 12:26Speaker 3: and my job is to help you see how you
- 12:28Speaker 3: can help yourself and identifying what that is and going
- 12:31Speaker 3: makes so much sense, like I love going out with
- 12:33Speaker 3: my girlfriends, no wonder, Yeah, it wasn't in my budget.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I need to change my budget. I need to work
- 12:38Speaker 3: out how I can achieve that goal now as opposed
- 12:41Speaker 3: to how I was planning on doing it before, because
- 12:44Speaker 3: I set a goal that was unrealistic for myself, Like
- 12:47Speaker 3: we can actually all save, we can actually all invest,
- 12:51Speaker 3: we just have to make it a realistic number for ourselves.
- 12:54Speaker 3: And the easiest way to get disheartened is to set
- 12:56Speaker 3: a goal that will never achieve because I guarantee you
- 12:59Speaker 3: if you got to December and you hadn't achieved that
- 13:02Speaker 3: savings goal, You're like, oh, I'm the worst at saving
- 13:06Speaker 3: I suck. Yeah, it's like, no, you're not. You just
- 13:09Speaker 3: didn't prioritize it because you actually cared about something else more.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You're kind of saying that if you set goals that
- 13:16Speaker 1: are unreachable, that could potentially jeopardize your savings even further
- 13:20Speaker 1: and put further down than when we started.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Because you start, when we've talked about this on the
- 13:24Speaker 3: podcast before, we've talked about learned helplessness, you're teaching yourself
- 13:28Speaker 3: that you're not capable when that is not the case
- 13:30Speaker 3: at all. You're just not setting yourself up for success.
- 13:34Speaker 3: So we need to teach ourselves to set ourselves up
- 13:36Speaker 3: for success, and once we have that, we will then
- 13:39Speaker 3: be able to be successful. Because it's like, and I
- 13:41Speaker 3: said this on the podcast last week with Jazz, it's
- 13:44Speaker 3: like learning another language. At the start of the journey
- 13:47Speaker 3: of learning another language, it's literally all foreign like no
- 13:51Speaker 3: pun intended, Yeah, it is literally foreign. You don't understand it.
- 13:54Speaker 3: You look it on on paper and you're like, I
- 13:56Speaker 3: will never understand this, like what, And then you start
- 13:59Speaker 3: learning the basics, then you can say hello, and then
- 14:01Speaker 3: you can say hello, how are you? And then you
- 14:02Speaker 3: know how to interpret what other people are saying, and
- 14:05Speaker 3: you start putting it all together instead of setting out
- 14:07Speaker 3: to write an essay instead first week exactly like as
- 14:10Speaker 3: if you would be able to enter the French speaking
- 14:13Speaker 3: competition two weeks after, you know what I mean, Like,
- 14:16Speaker 3: you're just setting ourselves up for failure. And I think
- 14:18Speaker 3: that when it comes to finance, we genuinely put so
- 14:21Speaker 3: much pressure on ourselves because technically we've been handling money
- 14:25Speaker 3: our entire lives. So you go, I should know how
- 14:27Speaker 3: to do this. It's like, well, actually, you might have
- 14:30Speaker 3: known that the French language existed for your entire life,
- 14:34Speaker 3: doesn't mean you know how to use it. You might
- 14:36Speaker 3: go to French restaurants all the time and you might
- 14:38Speaker 3: know you know the basics of how to order and
- 14:41Speaker 3: what that actually looks like. Doesn't mean you know French.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Doesn't mean that you're silly, though, And I think we
- 14:46Speaker 3: need to give ourselves a little bit more credit. Like
- 14:49Speaker 3: you might have been handling money your entire life, your
- 14:51Speaker 3: parents might work in finance, does not mean you know
- 14:54Speaker 3: how to speak that language though, So VD, when you
- 14:57Speaker 3: were talking before about budget. I was thinking that that's
- 15:03Speaker 3: that can be quite a daunting thing to go back
- 15:05Speaker 3: through your old bank statements and really go head to head,
- 15:10Speaker 3: face to face with your spending habits for the last
- 15:12Speaker 3: six months or the last year, or just do the
- 15:15Speaker 3: last three months last ahead, Let's not bite off more
- 15:18Speaker 3: than we can choose.
- 15:19Speaker 1: That's to me, that seems really daunting. But do you
- 15:22Speaker 1: think that is the only way to kind of accept
- 15:25Speaker 1: where you're at.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I do, And I've said this before, like we need
- 15:28Speaker 3: to stop sticking our heads in the sand. We need
- 15:30Speaker 3: to stop judging ourselves around our spending habits and actually
- 15:33Speaker 3: start teaching ourselves what we do as people, Like what
- 15:37Speaker 3: does that mean? Like why do we choose that? Why
- 15:39Speaker 3: do I choose that? Take the judgment away, Like even
- 15:41Speaker 3: if you've you know, somehow in the first six months
- 15:44Speaker 3: of the year, gotten into more debt, Like that's actually okay,
- 15:47Speaker 3: it is fine. Don't charge yourself for that. I'm definitely
- 15:50Speaker 3: not judging you for that. We just need to look
- 15:52Speaker 3: at it. We just need to go and set some
- 15:53Speaker 3: new goals. We just need to look at our budgets,
- 15:56Speaker 3: not as a budget, not as something restrictive. What more,
- 16:00Speaker 3: is something that teaches us this is how I spend,
- 16:03Speaker 3: this is what I allocate to, And now I know
- 16:06Speaker 3: I can actually reallocate that money in line with the
- 16:09Speaker 3: things that I really value. And I've never been the
- 16:11Speaker 3: financial advisor to say, okage, So if you saved that
- 16:15Speaker 3: four dollars fifty every day that you're spending on your
- 16:18Speaker 3: super lovely oh latte at the cafe every single morning,
- 16:21Speaker 3: you'd have eleven hundred and seventy dollars in your bank account.
- 16:24Speaker 3: You'd be like, Okay, cool, but like, I really love that,
- 16:27Speaker 3: and I've never told you to sacrifice the things that
- 16:30Speaker 3: you love. It's all about where am I spending money
- 16:33Speaker 3: that is not in line with my values. And if
- 16:35Speaker 3: somebody said I get coffee every single morning, but I
- 16:38Speaker 3: do it because my team goes down to the cafe
- 16:40Speaker 3: and I always want to go for the walk with them.
- 16:42Speaker 3: But I don't even like coffee. I just get it
- 16:43Speaker 3: because i'm there, and I don't even finish the cup,
- 16:46Speaker 3: I'd be like, Okay, that's probably something that we can
- 16:48Speaker 3: look at, and we need to help you feel comfortable
- 16:51Speaker 3: to say no to that, because that's not serving you,
- 16:53Speaker 3: that's not you spending in line with your values. You
- 16:55Speaker 3: can still go for the walk with your team to
- 16:57Speaker 3: get the coffee and just not buy one. I think
- 17:00Speaker 3: it's really important to just remember that it's not something
- 17:02Speaker 3: we should be judging ourselves on. It's just going to
- 17:04Speaker 3: help ourselves educate ourselves, right, Like, go and learn about you,
- 17:08Speaker 3: Go learn what you spend on and then go, oh
- 17:10Speaker 3: my gosh, that's so weird. Why do I do that?
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 17:14Speaker 3: Learn, don't judge. And I think that that's where we
- 17:16Speaker 3: need to start from, because if you can learn what
- 17:19Speaker 3: your values are, you can then build things around it
- 17:22Speaker 3: to help ensure that you're always spending in line with
- 17:25Speaker 3: your values. Like do you work really late in hospitality?
- 17:28Speaker 3: So every single night you go through a drive through
- 17:31Speaker 3: to get dinner? Cool? What's something if you don't like
- 17:34Speaker 3: that and that's not something that serves you, what can
- 17:36Speaker 3: you do? Can you make sure that you've got dinners
- 17:38Speaker 3: at home for you? Can you make sure that you've
- 17:39Speaker 3: got something in your bag to eat on the way home? Like?
- 17:42Speaker 3: What can we do to help you achieve your goals
- 17:45Speaker 3: and save in line with your values as opposed to
- 17:47Speaker 3: just spending money because we haven't thought about it enough?
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, brilliant learn, don't judge. I like that.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really hard to do that. It's a really
- 17:56Speaker 3: hard mental shift if we're honest, and it's not something
- 17:59Speaker 3: that I go, oh, just learn, don't judge Like it's
- 18:02Speaker 3: really hard because you will look at it and go, oh,
- 18:04Speaker 3: why have I done this to myself? And that's not
- 18:07Speaker 3: serving you, Like, cut that talk out like it's not
- 18:09Speaker 3: going to help you, because we actually can't go back
- 18:11Speaker 3: in time and change that. So how are that we
- 18:13Speaker 3: just learn what we can do in the future so
- 18:15Speaker 3: that we don't look back again and go, oh, my gosh,
- 18:18Speaker 3: I can't believe that I did this check in and
- 18:20Speaker 3: then I didn't do it.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So do it now for the good of you, and
- 18:24Speaker 1: twelve months time, I guess.
- 18:25Speaker 3: So future your future you.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Alrighty, guys, So we will be back after a very
- 18:30Speaker 1: short break to chat through the things that Vicky D
- 18:33Speaker 1: sees needing work the most at this time of the year.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Plus we'll be talking through some strategies to recharge your
- 18:39Speaker 1: money motivation. Don't go anywhere, guys. All right, VD, what
- 18:51Speaker 1: are the top things that tend to need an overhaul
- 18:54Speaker 1: when it comes to our finances at this time of year?
- 18:57Speaker 3: All of it. No, no, no, that's really a dramatic
- 19:00Speaker 3: absolutely not accurate. I just really wanted to say that
- 19:02Speaker 3: for noahpparent reason. The first thing is probably our organization.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Let's be honest. Not all of us are good at
- 19:08Speaker 3: tracking our spending or keeping our receipts in order that
- 19:11Speaker 3: we know we need to keep in order for our
- 19:13Speaker 3: accountants or whatever that is. So I think that organization
- 19:17Speaker 3: is really important to do a little bit of an
- 19:19Speaker 3: overhaul on, because if you feel a little bit out
- 19:21Speaker 3: of control, one of the best ways to get back
- 19:23Speaker 3: in control is to just organize and to plan and
- 19:26Speaker 3: put everything in front of you and go okay, cool,
- 19:28Speaker 3: Like does this have a home? If you're collecting receipts?
- 19:31Speaker 3: Maybe it's about and I've said this before on the
- 19:32Speaker 3: podcast I'm becoming a broken record, George, but do you
- 19:36Speaker 3: need to start taking photos of receipts so you don't
- 19:38Speaker 3: just have a whole heap in your handbag, some of
- 19:40Speaker 3: your bedside draw some of the table when you walk
- 19:43Speaker 3: in the front door, Like maybe just start an album
- 19:45Speaker 3: on your phone, take a photo of each and every
- 19:47Speaker 3: single one of them, and then ditch them, chuck them out.
- 19:49Speaker 3: They'll no longer feel overwhelming to you. So it's just
- 19:52Speaker 3: about working out what works for you. Do you need
- 19:55Speaker 3: to reset your banking system? Are you not organized enough
- 19:58Speaker 3: when it comes to banking and you've been a little
- 20:01Speaker 3: bit naughty maybe you pay your bills on the due
- 20:03Speaker 3: date or after the due date. Do we need to
- 20:05Speaker 3: set up be pay payments so that it actually just
- 20:08Speaker 3: gets paid each and every single month without you thinking?
- 20:11Speaker 3: And now I'm not saying that this will work for everybody,
- 20:13Speaker 3: but what parts of our financial lives can we organize
- 20:17Speaker 3: so that we can feel empowered? Yeah? Is it actually about,
- 20:19Speaker 3: you know, just getting all those bank accounts sorted and
- 20:22Speaker 3: instead of having the five that you've had for ages
- 20:24Speaker 3: that you shift money between and it doesn't really work.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Is it about going you know what, I don't need
- 20:29Speaker 3: three banks. I'm just going to go with one and
- 20:31Speaker 3: I'm going to get rid of the others and I'm
- 20:33Speaker 3: just going to really simplify my life in this way. So,
- 20:36Speaker 3: to be honest, it's just about organizing what makes sense
- 20:38Speaker 3: to you. And one of the easiest way is to
- 20:40Speaker 3: feel like you're in control even if you're in debt,
- 20:44Speaker 3: is to just feel organized about it and have a plan,
- 20:46Speaker 3: because even if you're overwhelmed with something, if you know
- 20:50Speaker 3: that there's a process and a plan follow to get
- 20:52Speaker 3: out of that situation, guaranteed you'll feel more empowered about it.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And we did a really good episode. It was probably
- 21:02Speaker 1: this time last year v we can you.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Believe that we've been podcasting together for more than an
- 21:06Speaker 3: edge of whack whack insane whack? Do you know that
- 21:09Speaker 3: in the middle of June, She's on the money? I
- 21:11Speaker 3: didn't celebrate this, and we really should have. Was She's
- 21:14Speaker 3: on the money? The podcasts second birthday?
- 21:17Speaker 1: Stop her? I know we turned to how many EPs
- 21:20Speaker 1: have we got out?
- 21:22Speaker 3: It's more than one hundred. It's why we spend a
- 21:25Speaker 3: lot of time sitting at.
- 21:26Speaker 1: This table we have chatting to Mike's sorry sorry, so
- 21:30Speaker 1: it was the Mari Condo your finances?
- 21:32Speaker 3: I love after that.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So I feel like that would be a really good
- 21:35Speaker 1: one to help our listeners get on track and if
- 21:38Speaker 1: they want help really organizing their systems, making them.
- 21:41Speaker 3: I love that. Let's pack that in the show notes.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So if you haven't listened to that, you can listen
- 21:45Speaker 3: to it, And if you have listened to that, you
- 21:46Speaker 3: can go and re listen to that.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, love that.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I love that.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Now the budgeting and motivation are two of the things
- 21:54Speaker 1: that I, in my opinion, would be really important to
- 21:56Speaker 1: get on top of at this time of year. Would
- 21:59Speaker 1: you agree with that?
- 22:00Speaker 3: Yes, good answer, You're welcome.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Can you please break those two down?
- 22:05Speaker 3: Yes?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Oh you'd like me to actually break it down? Okay,
- 22:09Speaker 3: no problems. So first things first, when we need to
- 22:12Speaker 3: break it down, there are a few things that we
- 22:14Speaker 3: need to do. First thing, first, we need to feel
- 22:15Speaker 3: motivated about it. If you're not motivated to do this,
- 22:18Speaker 3: it's gonna be real hard. I'm sorry, so getting on
- 22:22Speaker 3: top of going all right, this is why I need
- 22:24Speaker 3: to do it. Let's actually be positive about it. Don't
- 22:26Speaker 3: pick a time. We've only got ten minutes. Make it
- 22:28Speaker 3: a nice experience for yourself. Don't go, oh my gosh,
- 22:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna like, you know, do this on Saturday night
- 22:33Speaker 3: when I'm meant to be out with my girlfriend, like
- 22:35Speaker 3: having a drink. Like, don't pick out time. Pick a
- 22:38Speaker 3: time on a Sunday afternoon where you didn't have any
- 22:40Speaker 3: other plans and you didn't need to be anywhere, and
- 22:43Speaker 3: you're not sacrificing doing something else. That you really want
- 22:45Speaker 3: to do, and you know, maybe light a candle and
- 22:47Speaker 3: have a cup of tea and enjoy the process. I
- 22:50Speaker 3: think that's really important because too many times when we
- 22:53Speaker 3: start talking about do you budget Georgia, you're like, Okay,
- 22:56Speaker 3: I'll sacrifice something so that I can do this. Like,
- 22:58Speaker 3: don't even come at me with that idea. I don't
- 23:01Speaker 3: think it's a good idea because you're already going to
- 23:03Speaker 3: not want to be doing it. Pick a time when
- 23:05Speaker 3: you can do it, and you can do it comfortably
- 23:07Speaker 3: and enjoy it. If you work best from bed, get
- 23:09Speaker 3: your laptop, get your cup of tea, sit in bed
- 23:12Speaker 3: and do your budgeting there. Do your goals setting there.
- 23:14Speaker 3: You don't have to sit at a desk and actually
- 23:17Speaker 3: get it done. If you want to go to the park,
- 23:19Speaker 3: do it there, like I don't mind, but make it
- 23:21Speaker 3: a good experience for yourself. And then let's actually talk
- 23:24Speaker 3: about strategies that you can implement. So we've talked about
- 23:27Speaker 3: this before and about how to set strategies and how
- 23:30Speaker 3: to set goals and the best way you can set
- 23:32Speaker 3: goals I think, and I've simplified the smart methodology down
- 23:36Speaker 3: to four instead of I think five or six or
- 23:39Speaker 3: whatever it is how many letters are in their word
- 23:40Speaker 3: smart is okay. So I've taken it down from five
- 23:44Speaker 3: to four because hah, she's on the money and now
- 23:46Speaker 3: we call it that she's on the money strategy, so
- 23:49Speaker 3: it's SotM. So we need to be specific. Then we
- 23:53Speaker 3: need to be optimistic. So I've changed it out because
- 23:56Speaker 3: I actually want you to be positive about these goals.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I want you to be a coroaching it with a
- 24:00Speaker 3: mindset that means I can do this, Like I can
- 24:02Speaker 3: get this done, and you've got to document why you're
- 24:05Speaker 3: being optimistic about it, and if you don't, it's not
- 24:08Speaker 3: going to work. My friends. Then it needs to be
- 24:10Speaker 3: time bound. So it needs to be timely. You need
- 24:12Speaker 3: to actually set a goal and go I'm going to
- 24:14Speaker 3: achieve that by December. We're not talking about just staying oh, je,
- 24:18Speaker 3: do you want to save money? Yeah, I want to
- 24:19Speaker 3: save ten ground? Great, Like no, I want to save
- 24:22Speaker 3: ten ground by December twenty twenty two. And this is
- 24:24Speaker 3: the specific date. Like we want to be specific and
- 24:27Speaker 3: we want to have a time and then we also
- 24:30Speaker 3: want to be able to measure that goal. So if
- 24:32Speaker 3: we're not able to measure it. How are we going
- 24:34Speaker 3: to work out if we've achieved it or not? How
- 24:36Speaker 3: are you going to measure it? You're going to measure
- 24:38Speaker 3: it by breaking that down. Okay, every single month, I'm
- 24:41Speaker 3: going to save five hundred dollars towards that goal, and
- 24:44Speaker 3: that's how I'm going to measure my success because after
- 24:46Speaker 3: two months, I should have one thousand dollars, and after
- 24:48Speaker 3: this entire time period, I should have that ten thousand
- 24:51Speaker 3: dollars and I can check in with myself and measure
- 24:53Speaker 3: whether I'm on track or not. So that is how
- 24:56Speaker 3: I would recommend setting goals. But to really backtrack here
- 25:00Speaker 3: is very in line with the way that I've written
- 25:01Speaker 3: the book and what has I guess come to be
- 25:04Speaker 3: the way that she's on the Money podcast flow happens
- 25:07Speaker 3: is before you even think about setting goals, know yourself,
- 25:11Speaker 3: know your money story, Understand who you are and why
- 25:14Speaker 3: you are the way you are, because if you don't
- 25:17Speaker 3: understand that, it's going to be really hard to set
- 25:19Speaker 3: goals that you're going to stick to. It's going to
- 25:21Speaker 3: be really hard to set goals that you actually feel
- 25:23Speaker 3: like you can achieve. So understand that, then understand your budget,
- 25:27Speaker 3: because why are we setting goals before we know how
- 25:30Speaker 3: much money we have. If you were setting goals before
- 25:33Speaker 3: you know how much money you have, you are setting
- 25:35Speaker 3: yourself up for failure. Because gee, if you said to me,
- 25:37Speaker 3: all right, back to this ten thousand dollar example, I'm
- 25:40Speaker 3: going to save ten grand by the end of the year, Victoria,
- 25:42Speaker 3: that is so sick g I'm so excited. I want
- 25:45Speaker 3: to hear all about it. I want to know when
- 25:46Speaker 3: you've achieved that. How much free cash flow have you got? Oh? Like,
- 25:50Speaker 3: I think I have like a grand of free cash
- 25:52Speaker 3: flow this year. Okay, So how are you achieving that
- 25:55Speaker 3: ten thousand dollars? Oh? I don't know. Like it's just
- 25:58Speaker 3: something I've always wanted to do. Okay, But Georgie, you
- 26:01Speaker 3: can't afford to do that, and you're not going to
- 26:03Speaker 3: achieve your goal. And then by the time you say
- 26:05Speaker 3: that you're going to get to that goal, it's not
- 26:07Speaker 3: going to happen, and you're going to feel really flat
- 26:09Speaker 3: and you're gonna feel deflated, and then you're going to
- 26:10Speaker 3: feel like you're really bad at saving. Like that's actually
- 26:12Speaker 3: a really bad idea, Like, don't set a goal that
- 26:14Speaker 3: you're going to feel like crap. About like, why would
- 26:17Speaker 3: you do that to yourself? That's really mean. Yeah, so
- 26:20Speaker 3: understand your budget. And I shouldn't be telling you this
- 26:23Speaker 3: because it technically is only meant to be for the
- 26:25Speaker 3: people who bought the book. But on our website you
- 26:27Speaker 3: can download the sheets on the Muddy Budgeting Tool for free. Yeah,
- 26:31Speaker 3: so going down there that it's just a basic budget spreadsheet.
- 26:35Speaker 3: It's not like the budget and Cashlow master class. It's
- 26:37Speaker 3: not that bougie one. It's just a basic this is
- 26:41Speaker 3: my spending, this is my earn, this is my own,
- 26:43Speaker 3: this is my O and this is my income. And
- 26:45Speaker 3: for me, it's just a really good way to see
- 26:48Speaker 3: what you're spending and wet not asking you to allocate
- 26:51Speaker 3: a certain amount to a grocery budget or whatever. It's
- 26:54Speaker 3: actually just saying what do you spend g put it
- 26:56Speaker 3: all in here and we'll tell you if you have
- 26:58Speaker 3: surplus cash flow or not, and then it will spit
- 27:00Speaker 3: out at the bottom. It'll say, okay, well you're actually
- 27:03Speaker 3: spending more than your earning, or it'll say, oh gee,
- 27:05Speaker 3: you actually have like eleven thousand dollars free this year
- 27:08Speaker 3: that hasn't been allocated in your budget based on what
- 27:11Speaker 3: you earn, how are you going to save that? So
- 27:13Speaker 3: you can work it out from there. And I think
- 27:15Speaker 3: that that's a really cool tool and I wanted to
- 27:17Speaker 3: share it, even though I technically probably wasn't meant to.
- 27:20Speaker 3: But what I want you guys to have the tools
- 27:22Speaker 3: to be successful. And I think that by understanding that,
- 27:26Speaker 3: then you can set a goal that makes sense. Because
- 27:28Speaker 3: if that budget spreadsheet for you spat out that you
- 27:31Speaker 3: only had eight grand but you really wanted to save ten, well,
- 27:34Speaker 3: then that gives you the opportunity to then look at
- 27:36Speaker 3: your budget again go okay, cool, I'm spending more on this.
- 27:40Speaker 3: If I strip back, you know, going out so much,
- 27:42Speaker 3: or if I strip back on how much I'm spending
- 27:44Speaker 3: on clothes, or you know, go and rejig my insurance
- 27:47Speaker 3: policies and negotiate better deals that'll free up some cash flow.
- 27:50Speaker 3: So then I can achieve that goal of ten grand.
- 27:54Speaker 3: We can find it, and we can set ourselves up
- 27:56Speaker 3: for success from the start. But to set ourselves up
- 27:58Speaker 3: for success means actually creating a plan that makes sense,
- 28:03Speaker 3: not just creating a plan, because how many times have
- 28:05Speaker 3: we actually just been like, oh, the plan is okay?
- 28:09Speaker 3: Is it booked? Is it happening? Are we on the road,
- 28:11Speaker 3: Do we have the map? Do we have enough petrol?
- 28:14Speaker 3: But be like I don't even know to car? Yeah? Okay,
- 28:17Speaker 3: so how are we getting there? So you need to
- 28:19Speaker 3: set yourself up for success from the start, and if
- 28:22Speaker 3: you don't do that, you are doing yourself a disservice
- 28:24Speaker 3: because you're not going to achieve that goal and then
- 28:27Speaker 3: you're gonna feel terrible and that is not what we
- 28:29Speaker 3: do here.
- 28:30Speaker 1: So what if the jan one you really sat down
- 28:34Speaker 1: to understand your money story. You knew who you were,
- 28:36Speaker 1: You had that sorted, then you nailed your budget, you
- 28:39Speaker 1: had that sorted, your cash flow systems. It all made sense.
- 28:42Speaker 3: It was practiced that these goals that were great.
- 28:44Speaker 1: But now it's up to July first, and you're just
- 28:47Speaker 1: feeling a bit like, meh, what's it all for? I'm
- 28:50Speaker 1: not rich yet?
- 28:52Speaker 3: Girl, Like, imagine if you could get rich in only
- 28:54Speaker 3: six months, it'd be nice.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 28:56Speaker 3: It is the long term. It's about enjoying the journey
- 28:59Speaker 3: as well as working towards a final destination. Like I
- 29:02Speaker 3: get it. It can feel really uninspiring, And something that
- 29:05Speaker 3: I think is really important is to set mini goals
- 29:07Speaker 3: for yourself. So back to our example of ten grand,
- 29:10Speaker 3: which seems to be the theme of this episode. If
- 29:13Speaker 3: you're feeling like that ten thousand dollars is really out
- 29:15Speaker 3: of reach, cool put in mini goals, right, I want
- 29:19Speaker 3: to save my first thousand, and then I'm going to
- 29:21Speaker 3: celebrate when I get twenty five hundred dollars, and then
- 29:23Speaker 3: I'm going to celebrate five grand, and then I'm going
- 29:25Speaker 3: to celebrate seven and a half thousand dollars. Like we
- 29:28Speaker 3: want to celebrate the small wins, like make a little
- 29:31Speaker 3: chart tracker and maybe I'll make another one of these
- 29:33Speaker 3: in the future of just like being able to track
- 29:35Speaker 3: your savings goals that we can stick on our fridge
- 29:37Speaker 3: and we just like color it in so we can
- 29:39Speaker 3: see where we're at and we can actually see what
- 29:42Speaker 3: we're achieving. Because if we can visually see that achievement,
- 29:45Speaker 3: it feels more real. And when it comes to money,
- 29:48Speaker 3: like that's hidden and that's half the issue with money, right,
- 29:51Speaker 3: Like if it's in your bank account, you're not open
- 29:53Speaker 3: on your banking app, you kind of feel like what
- 29:55Speaker 3: else have I got? Like you don't see it, So
- 29:58Speaker 3: how can you visualize that for you yourself, because I
- 30:01Speaker 3: have a feeling that a lot of people are actually
- 30:03Speaker 3: really visual learners and visual people because I am, and
- 30:06Speaker 3: I just assume that that's quite normal. If I had
- 30:09Speaker 3: a savings chart on my fridge, which I've done literally
- 30:11Speaker 3: so many times, I've lost account. If I had a
- 30:14Speaker 3: savings chart, like it makes me feel like I'm on track.
- 30:17Speaker 3: It's like when you meal prep and you like put
- 30:19Speaker 3: the list of things on the fridge that you know
- 30:20Speaker 3: you're gonna have on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Like it
- 30:23Speaker 3: makes sense and you kind of stay on track. But
- 30:26Speaker 3: if it's not front of mind, it's not gonna happen.
- 30:28Speaker 3: So for me, I think it's just about can you
- 30:31Speaker 3: make that visual? Because if you're not on track or
- 30:33Speaker 3: you're feeling a little bit flat, like, yeah, make it visual,
- 30:36Speaker 3: but also double check if those goals actually align to
- 30:38Speaker 3: your values. Yep. Like if you say I can't, I
- 30:41Speaker 3: can't be bothered. It just feels so overwhelming and like
- 30:44Speaker 3: I'm just done inspired by this, and I'll be like, oh, gee,
- 30:46Speaker 3: what's your goal? You go saving for a house and
- 30:49Speaker 3: I go okay, Like that doesn't sound like something that
- 30:51Speaker 3: you're overly excited about. Nah, but I just really think
- 30:54Speaker 3: I should. Okay, let's have a chat about that, because
- 30:58Speaker 3: if you're saving for something that doesn't actually aligned to
- 31:00Speaker 3: your values, you're not going to get that sense of
- 31:03Speaker 3: accomplishment that you're probably yearning for. Yeah, let's work out
- 31:06Speaker 3: what you actually want to do. Maybe we change the goal.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Maybe it's for this massive overseas trip. Maybe it is
- 31:13Speaker 3: for you know, an investment that's going to create your
- 31:15Speaker 3: passive income in the future. Let's make it about you
- 31:18Speaker 3: rather than about what you think it should be.
- 31:22Speaker 1: The other reason V I think it's important to keep
- 31:24Speaker 1: yourself motivated is because and this could be changing these
- 31:29Speaker 1: days and within our community. But it's not like you
- 31:32Speaker 1: reach a savings milestone. You're like, chicks, g you saved
- 31:35Speaker 1: twenty k. Like that's still quite cringe and people would
- 31:39Speaker 1: maybe it's not crange, don't you call that creepy? But like,
- 31:42Speaker 1: is that bragging?
- 31:43Speaker 3: Like, no, that's totally bra totally yeah, totally brag.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Good Are you allowed to do that?
- 31:48Speaker 3: You totally are allowed to do that. To be honest,
- 31:50Speaker 3: if you've got friends that aren't celebrating the goals that
- 31:52Speaker 3: you've been working your butt off to achieve, get new friends.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, get your friends, well strike out my point.
- 31:58Speaker 3: No, no, no, But it's serious though, Like if you
- 32:01Speaker 3: don't feel like it can be tricky, right, Like if
- 32:04Speaker 3: you're so stoked that you've just reached about it, yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 3: like how epic would that be? But then you know
- 32:09Speaker 3: that your friend is struggling and in debt, like that
- 32:11Speaker 3: can feel really hard and it can feel like, oh,
- 32:14Speaker 3: I probably shouldn't be talking about this, but find a
- 32:17Speaker 3: way to celebrate it. Obviously, don't go and rub it
- 32:19Speaker 3: in the face of the friend that just opens up
- 32:20Speaker 3: to you that they're in a whole heap of debt,
- 32:22Speaker 3: because I just think that's insensitive. But if you read
- 32:24Speaker 3: the room right and you've got friends that know that
- 32:26Speaker 3: you've been saving, like absolutely share it. And if you
- 32:29Speaker 3: don't have anybody else to share it with, please message me. Like,
- 32:32Speaker 3: I swear to god, they are my favorite messages to
- 32:34Speaker 3: get people saying, hey, the like I don't have anyone
- 32:37Speaker 3: to share this with, but I've just reached my savings
- 32:39Speaker 3: goal and I'm so excited because I'm halfway to buying
- 32:43Speaker 3: a house and I'm just like, hecky, yeah, Like these
- 32:45Speaker 3: are the best messages, Like, please don't feel like you
- 32:48Speaker 3: don't have anyone to share it with because you've got
- 32:50Speaker 3: She's on the Money. If you don't have people that
- 32:52Speaker 3: you want to share it with and she already shared
- 32:54Speaker 3: it with somebody else, still share it with.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Us the money wind thread dmo exactly.
- 33:00Speaker 3: If you don't want it on the Money, win three
- 33:01Speaker 3: it or jump into the Facebook group and share it there. Like,
- 33:04Speaker 3: we genuinely love knowing that you're achieving your goals and
- 33:08Speaker 3: it makes me so happy, Like how cool would it
- 33:11Speaker 3: be to one day be able to quantify just how
- 33:12Speaker 3: much people have saved in our community, like how are
- 33:16Speaker 3: we going to do it?
- 33:17Speaker 1: But you'll find a way, my friend, you will.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Find a way, and we can be like, oh, this
- 33:21Speaker 3: is how many millions that She's on the Money community
- 33:24Speaker 3: combined have said, like, how that's huge? Anyway, that's all
- 33:28Speaker 3: I've got? Love?
- 33:29Speaker 1: Oh good it mate. So I guess in some today, guys,
- 33:33Speaker 1: if you feel like you're lacking motivation right now, that
- 33:35Speaker 1: is very normal. So don't beat yourself up, but do
- 33:39Speaker 1: use this Midia milestone to reinvigorate yourself. Set those new goals,
- 33:42Speaker 1: reflect on your budget, tweak it how you need to
- 33:45Speaker 1: tweak it, and just be kind to yourself, I think,
- 33:48Speaker 1: because as we always say, the road to financial freedom
- 33:51Speaker 1: is really long. It's not going to happen overnight. So
- 33:53Speaker 1: just be kind, keep on doing it, and even just
- 33:56Speaker 1: listening to this, to this podcast is an accomplishment enough.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I think Gosh's educating yourself exactly. And celebrate those things
- 34:04Speaker 3: because I get messages from people all the time, and
- 34:07Speaker 3: I didn't anticipate getting messages like this, but I'm really
- 34:10Speaker 3: grateful for them. Nonetheless, but people will message and say, hey, Victoria,
- 34:15Speaker 3: so many of my friends have recommended the podcast, and
- 34:18Speaker 3: I'm really sorry, but I haven't listened to I don't
- 34:20Speaker 3: want to hear a money podcast. I'm like, oh want
- 34:23Speaker 3: thanks for messaging me. But two, like, I get it.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Not everybody's ready to hear about money. Like a lot
- 34:29Speaker 3: of people feel like it's an overwhelming topic and they
- 34:31Speaker 3: just don't know where to start. And obviously we are
- 34:33Speaker 3: a little bit biased and we think that She's on
- 34:35Speaker 3: the Money is a great place to start, but a
- 34:37Speaker 3: lot of people still aren't even comfortable with that. And
- 34:40Speaker 3: that's okay. But like, if you're struggling with something, maybe
- 34:43Speaker 3: this can be your win for this week.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Yeah, love it all right, v I think that is
- 34:47Speaker 1: all we have time for.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Today, all right, But just before we head off, we'd
