- 0:00Oh, God. Oh, my God.
- 0:13I just kind of know.
- 0:14What are your poops like?
- 0:16I'm kind of picturing you just like on the dog crawl across the carpet.
- 0:21I mean, you don't have to imagine that we've seen it.
- 0:23I do like a sexy Marilyn Monroe crawl across the carpet.
- 0:27Oh, gross.
- 0:29With poop on my thighs.
- 0:32Oh, I want everybody to like watch blonde,
- 0:35but then just imagine my face on Marilyn Monroe.
- 0:38We can probably we got a deep fake you in there.
- 0:40That'd be great. We got you know, we got the technology.
- 0:42We have a Peter that might actually make that movie watchable.
- 0:45I hear it's kind of rough.
- 0:47Pretty bad. Yeah.
- 0:48But if my face was on the lady body, mm hmm.
- 0:53Let me hide. Oh, my God.
- 0:55It was fine. I just met.
- 0:56I'm just talking about the the emotional roller coaster we're about to go through
- 1:00and go from last the last episode to this episode.
- 1:04Yeah, one was really implying that we all have emotions here.
- 1:07Mm hmm. Fair. I meant for our listeners.
- 1:10Oh, yeah. They're invested at this point.
- 1:12I don't think our listeners have emotions either.
- 1:14I don't think we have listeners.
- 1:16There's at least some bots that watched our.
- 1:19Yeah, they went to town on that one video.
- 1:22Fifty eight views or something.
- 1:23It's like 90 now. Oh, damn. All right. Well.
- 1:26What do we have more bots?
- 1:28Good question. I think.
- 1:29Can we please watch some of our other videos?
- 1:32Which video is it?
- 1:34It was the it can happen to you.
- 1:36I was kind of hoping it was the 9-11 one because that would be weird.
- 1:38That would have been actually really weird.
- 1:40That would have been awesome if it was like a bunch of people
- 1:43kind of Googling 9-11 stuff, just trying to 9-11 the facts.
- 1:48I mean, it was. Welcome to cage match.
- 1:51This is you really struggled with that one today.
- 1:54This is this is Sean, your bemused host with my co-host Nick
- 1:59and our producer Peter. Hello.
- 2:02Who was infinitely patients patient with our chicanery until not last week
- 2:06until he's not. Is it chicanery?
- 2:09Yeah. Chicanery.
- 2:11Oh, I don't know. Chicanery.
- 2:12Sean Connery. Sean Connery.
- 2:14Thank you for being with our Sean Connery today.
- 2:18Always, always patient with your Sean Connery.
- 2:20Especially Zardoz era Sean Connery.
- 2:23I love me some Zardoz era Sean Connery.
- 2:26So great. Let's talk about that movie.
- 2:29Yeah. I wish I had a giant floating head that just vomited guns out for me
- 2:34every morning. That movie is unhinged.
- 2:36I don't I don't need this, but you want it.
- 2:41It'd be entertaining.
- 2:42This is this is the speed this podcast is going to go today.
- 2:46Nope. We're going to pick it up.
- 2:48We got things going on. Oh, yeah.
- 2:51Yeah. Do you want to talk about the bad one or the good one?
- 2:53Oh, yeah. Let's let's let's.
- 2:56So we're just going to give up give up the ghost here.
- 2:58This week, we are putting head to head
- 3:03Paul Schrader's 2014 Dying of the Light thing.
- 3:07I was trying to think of a kind word to put in front of it.
- 3:11And just sounded like you forgot what we were doing here again.
- 3:14No, no. And 1993's Romp.
- 3:17Red Rock West. Red Rock West.
- 3:21When walk. Red Rock Rest.
- 3:24Yeah, this is that.
- 3:25I mean, that's going to be most of the jokes in this episode.
- 3:28I would like to talk about Red Rock West first.
- 3:321993, Nick Cage plays drifter Michael,
- 3:36who after driving 1200 miles to get a job on an oil rig
- 3:41and not getting it because of his bum knee, spends his last five dollars
- 3:45to get to Red Rock while looking for bar back work is mistaken for Lyle
- 3:50played by Dennis Hopper, an assassin
- 3:54who didn't show up.
- 3:56And Nick Cage is offered $10,000,
- 3:59$5,000 upfront to murder Larifin Boyle's character,
- 4:03Suzanne, by her husband, JT Walsh's Wayne.
- 4:08Hilarity ensues.
- 4:10Shenanigans ensue. Sean Connery. Sean Connery ensues.
- 4:13Every time Nick Cage, you know, gets he goes over to the house.
- 4:19She offers him twice as much money.
- 4:21He takes that, writes the sheriff a letter saying, you know,
- 4:25bar owners trying to kill his wife.
- 4:26You should probably look into that.
- 4:28Throws it in the mail because time is of the essence and
- 4:32scoots out of town.
- 4:33Only did a drifter drive into the hospital.
- 4:36And when the sheriff shows up to ask questions and guess who it is,
- 4:40it's the bar owner, Wayne.
- 4:42And it's all just a wacky adventure from there.
- 4:45It is a very thinly veiled like farce.
- 4:49This whole thing is just like a dark farce.
- 4:51It really doesn't like drive big jokes or anything.
- 4:55No, everything leads back to Red Rock.
- 4:59And they're like five times he gets out of town
- 5:03only to immediately get driven right back to town.
- 5:06Wayne drives him out of town to kill him in the middle of the forest.
- 5:09He gets away, runs off, is almost hit by Lyle, the actual assassin,
- 5:15who not only drives him back to Red Rock, drives him back to Wayne's bar
- 5:20and is insulted that Nick Cage won't have a drink with him.
- 5:23What's the name of that tabletop game?
- 5:25Fiasco. Fiasco. It's Fiasco.
- 5:27Like everything about this is Fiasco.
- 5:29It's a Coen Brothers film without witty dialogue.
- 5:32It is written by a pair of brothers.
- 5:35That's also true. Yeah.
- 5:36And directed by one of those brothers whose name is John.
- 5:39John John. John Dahl. Yeah.
- 5:43Who mostly has only who's directed a lot of television.
- 5:47And he got his start directing a bunch of cool in the gang music videos.
- 5:52That's that's pretty astounding. Yeah.
- 5:55Doll's first film, Kill Me Again, was about Kilmer.
- 6:00Was it? Yeah, I believe he was in that.
- 6:02Well, the reason Nick Cage took this role
- 6:04and this is my one fun fact for this movie is because his uncle,
- 6:08Francis Ford Coppola, really liked Dahl's first film,
- 6:11Kill Me Again, and said, Nick Cage should take should do it.
- 6:16I mean, I think you said it right, Nick.
- 6:18You know, this doesn't lead to a lot of big jokes.
- 6:21It happens. It happens at a clip.
- 6:23There's a lot of turns leading back to Wedwalk.
- 6:27Wedwalk. Michael gets seduced by Laura Flynn Boyle's character real quick.
- 6:32They're on the run out of town.
- 6:33No money. And she wants to stop for a beer, which turns into tequila.
- 6:37Yeah, it turns into the comfort in wants to stop for a beer,
- 6:40but she wants to use his money, too.
- 6:41It's like he just saved her ass.
- 6:44They're getting gas.
- 6:45And she's like, how are you going to pay for that?
- 6:47And he's like, well, I got like 80 bucks.
- 6:49And she's like, let me see your wallet.
- 6:50And then just looks at his ID to like make sure she knew who he was,
- 6:55takes his money and says, like, I'm getting a drink.
- 6:58Yeah. Like, bitch.
- 7:00I mean, technically, he just took, you know,
- 7:02$10,000 of hers to kill her husband, which he also didn't do.
- 7:08Well, whatever. She deserved it.
- 7:10Yeah. And all the money and his gun is in his.
- 7:14Impounded vehicle. Impounded vehicle.
- 7:16Oh, and the guy he ran over had two slugs in the chest.
- 7:20Hence why the sheriff showed up and was like, well,
- 7:23you clearly tried to kill this man.
- 7:25I love the enthusiasm you have right now.
- 7:27I have nothing left in the tank today.
- 7:30He like this is this is going to be a Nick episode.
- 7:33Oh, Jesus.
- 7:35I mean, talk about some of the performances.
- 7:37Do do the the ancillary characters and then talk some of the cagey bits.
- 7:42Dennis Hopper Lyle is pretty fun.
- 7:44I love the Lyle energy. Yeah.
- 7:46So he he just like gets in that car.
- 7:48He's like, you know, big Texas attitude. Yeah.
- 7:51And everything's just like when he's talking about being a Marine
- 7:55and Nick Cage is like, oh, yeah, I was Marine too.
- 7:58And like they do a little who thing together.
- 8:01Let me buy you a beer.
- 8:02And he's like, oh, no, I don't I don't want to be.
- 8:06Oh, you won't even let me buy you a beer.
- 8:08Like just real offended that he couldn't be hospitable.
- 8:12Yeah. To somebody is like.
- 8:13Which immediately turns around into I'm going to kill you in the bathroom
- 8:16when I found find out you took the money that was meant for me to kill a lady.
- 8:19Yeah, sure. Oh, yeah. OK.
- 8:21Talk about the truck driver.
- 8:23Oh, the truck driver and truck driver was cool.
- 8:25So when Nick Cage escapes the bathroom, he like climbs through the window
- 8:31and Lyle and Wayne come into the bathroom trying to find him
- 8:35because that's they knew where he was.
- 8:37They see that the windows open.
- 8:39So he climbed out the window.
- 8:40They go outside and they're looking around out back
- 8:42and looking around all over for him.
- 8:44Nick Cage climbed up the HVAC and he was on the roof.
- 8:48And he takes this two by four and extends it out across the roof
- 8:53onto the top of this semi truck.
- 8:56And he he like tight ropes across that and it like doesn't even flex.
- 9:02So pretty good two by fours they had back in the 90s, 80s, 90s, 93, 93.
- 9:10Yeah. And gets over onto the top of this truck and escapes.
- 9:15And, you know, Lyle, you know, kind of figures out like, oh, he
- 9:19he must have gone on the roof.
- 9:20So he's on the roof and he sees Nick Cage on top of this truck as they drive away
- 9:24down the road.
- 9:25Nick Cage just knocks on the driver's side window from on top.
- 9:29And it's like, hey, I'm out here.
- 9:32And the truck driver has to like slam on the brakes and.
- 9:36Nick Cage holds on pretty well. Yeah, he does.
- 9:38I mean, he must have expected it.
- 9:41And besides, he's got a bum knee, not a bum hand.
- 9:44Quit discounting him. Nick Cage is good at things.
- 9:46I will. I mean, I will say this is probably the most buff cage we've seen.
- 9:50No, I don't know.
- 9:52He was doing those one on pushups in the middle of the highway
- 9:54in that open opening scene.
- 9:55Yeah. But do you remember Birdie when he popped that top off?
- 9:59That's true. Come gutters.
- 10:01So this is like five, six years later.
- 10:03Yeah, he's lost it a little bit. Looking pretty good, though.
- 10:05Yeah, he looks fine.
- 10:06He looks like somebody who could have arguably been in the military at some.
- 10:11Yeah. So he like the truck driver pops out of the truck
- 10:15and he like puts a gun up to Nick Cage's face.
- 10:18I just feel good.
- 10:20There is some shit like that.
- 10:21Nick Cage is like, no.
- 10:23And then the truck driver is like, what are you doing over here?
- 10:26He's like, oh, well, I was in the bar.
- 10:29My wife showed up and she was real angry.
- 10:32So I just dipped out and like had to hide.
- 10:36So I like caught a ride on your truck.
- 10:38And the guy's like, I don't fucking believe that.
- 10:40You're full of shit.
- 10:41And he's like, no, you've never met my wife.
- 10:43So he drops him off in the middle of nowhere on this like in front of this house.
- 10:47And the house being that of Suzanne and Suzanne, because he now that Lyle's in town,
- 10:52he's got to warn Suzanne that, hey, this guy's actually coming to kill you.
- 10:55Yeah. Which I do like those two playing off each other.
- 10:59There's a lot of back and forth when he's like trying to get her
- 11:03to hurry the fuck up and get out of the house or to hide because Lyle is right outside.
- 11:08And she's just fighting him on it.
- 11:09He's like, just go hide on the porch.
- 11:11Like, what do you what do you want me to do?
- 11:13Get a divorce.
- 11:14Oh, yeah. You're putting two different conversations together there, but.
- 11:18Yeah, either way.
- 11:19That's that's the thing about this movie.
- 11:21It goes at such a clip and it all just meshes together.
- 11:25But then so Lyle shows up, he Nick Cage
- 11:28beans Lyle on the face with a trophy or something.
- 11:30Yeah. He just whips it right across the room.
- 11:33Good aim on him. Yeah.
- 11:35Lyle goes down, doesn't go for the like Nick Cage doesn't go for the gun.
- 11:38They just book it in a Jeep with no gas, which is kind of the running theme
- 11:43of this film is always out of gas. Yeah. Story of my life.
- 11:47Yeah. It was actually after he hit him with that statue.
- 11:50That's when Leroy Boyle's like, my husband's trying to kill me.
- 11:53And she's like, well, what am I supposed to do?
- 11:56It's like, well, if I were you, I'd get a divorce.
- 11:58That was my quote for this one.
- 11:59Oh, yeah. That's a good one. Yeah. Well, my quote.
- 12:02So her plan is to like run off to Mexico with Nick Cage.
- 12:05And when all the cards are on the table, she's like turned on him
- 12:09and she's like, we can still go to Mexico.
- 12:11And he just goes, fuck Mexico.
- 12:14It does have some good little lines in this movie.
- 12:16He is only like he is just there for this movie.
- 12:19He makes no decision in this film other than to go back to the house
- 12:24that drives this story.
- 12:25It just kind of happens around him.
- 12:27All the driving points and all the character, like all the character arcs
- 12:30in this are everyone else.
- 12:32And he's just in the middle of it very much like a Mad Max movie.
- 12:36Mad Max, for more, I was going to say, like a USA, like 90s TV show,
- 12:40like Renegade shows up in a small town, solve small town problems, moves on.
- 12:45He's like the Incredible Hulk. Yeah.
- 12:47I mean, this very much felt like they could have just made more of these films.
- 12:51Just random schmo shows up to town.
- 12:53Shit goes sideways.
- 12:55I mean, you could find that like all over the place, like that theme.
- 12:58Yeah. Right. And it's still popular now, too.
- 13:01It's like Reacher is really no different.
- 13:04And that was that's what I was thinking of when I watched this.
- 13:07I mean, all in all, I thought it was very enjoyable.
- 13:10Yeah, I thought it was a really good movie. It was fun.
- 13:13Like there's nothing so terrible in it to like tear down and make fun of.
- 13:17I mean, Laura Flynn Boyle is like, well, there's a reason
- 13:21you don't see a lot of her now.
- 13:22She wasn't that entertaining to watch.
- 13:25No, I mean, she kind of just was riding the high of being in Twin Peaks, I think.
- 13:29Yeah, I feel like that's kind of just what she brought to the table.
- 13:32Well, I guess with this one, too, it's just because it felt like I said,
- 13:36it felt like a 90s USA afternoon action show.
- 13:40I just none of the acting like stood out to me in any way
- 13:44other than it was just there to progress the dumbass series of events.
- 13:49I don't think any one character.
- 13:51Well, I mean, Lyle Dennis Hopper, I think, did a really good job.
- 13:55He chewed that scenery so good.
- 13:57Yeah, he was also our most larger than life character in the whole thing.
- 14:02So Nick Cage doesn't talk a lot in this film.
- 14:05No, he doesn't.
- 14:06He's a pretty, you know, reserved, easygoing guy.
- 14:09Yeah. Who, you know, just wanted some money.
- 14:13So the big twist in the film is after they decide to go to
- 14:16after they get away and they stay at the comfort in,
- 14:18they decide they're going to run to Mexico, which is a great idea.
- 14:22You've just met this strange woman who life is embroiled with,
- 14:25you know, homicides and you're like, all right, this seems like a good idea.
- 14:29We're down to our last, I'm assuming, 20 bucks.
- 14:32Mexico seems fine.
- 14:34And but she wants to go back and steal half a million, half a million
- 14:37from Wayne because it turns out they were bank robbers.
- 14:42I thought you were going to say lizard people.
- 14:44That would have been that would have been our 9-11 episode.
- 14:46That would have been our 9-11 episode.
- 14:48Didn't Laura Flynn Boyle play the alien baddie in Men in Black 2?
- 14:53I completely purged that film from my mind.
- 14:56I know Johnny Knoxville was her like wacky sidekick.
- 14:59I just have a weird encyclopedic knowledge of what Johnny Knoxville's in.
- 15:02That's fair.
- 15:03Oh, there you go.
- 15:05Hey, that tracks.
- 15:07What else is she doing?
- 15:08No, it doesn't matter.
- 15:08This isn't a Laura Flynn Boyle podcast.
- 15:11It can be.
- 15:13I'll Google her later.
- 15:15So but yeah, the
- 15:17naughtiness ensues.
- 15:18The cop the cop show up
- 15:20to arrest Wayne because they find the wanted poster.
- 15:25Mm hmm. Yeah.
- 15:26They say what that came from.
- 15:27It was in Kurt's pocket.
- 15:28Kurt being Laura's love buddy.
- 15:31OK, who was the guy that Nick Cage hit with his car?
- 15:35Yeah. All right.
- 15:36That guy had a bad go, man.
- 15:37He got shot twice and then hit by a car in the rain.
- 15:40Yeah. But he was bleeding out, I guess.
- 15:42So I'm going to blame the victim here.
- 15:45What do you guys think of the the accent work between Lyle and Nick Cage's Michael?
- 15:50Well, luckily, Nick Cage didn't speak a lot because it wasn't the strongest accent.
- 15:55I thought Dennis Hopper just he had an accent and he committed.
- 15:58I don't know if there's different regional dialects in Texas.
- 16:03It's a pretty big fucking state.
- 16:04I imagine once you get around other border states, it would affect it.
- 16:10I had a really hard time watching Dennis Hopper in this
- 16:13because I had just been watching clips from Super Mario Brothers.
- 16:19I couldn't get that out of my head.
- 16:21I love that movie.
- 16:23I did. I want to say I did genuinely enjoy this movie.
- 16:26I like the Mexican standoff in the cemetery later.
- 16:30Yeah. Where they're like digging up the money from the bank robbery
- 16:33and everyone's got a gun on each other.
- 16:36I like how we keep actually misusing the term Mexican stand up.
- 16:39Like, no, like they didn't all have guns.
- 16:42There were enough guns.
- 16:43Yeah, there were there were guns.
- 16:45There was a knife. There was a shovel.
- 16:46Yeah, there was a pocket knife.
- 16:48I think that counts.
- 16:48OK, I forgot to count the shuffle.
- 16:51Very important.
- 16:52Your Mexican stand.
- 16:53Lyle trucks a knife into Wayne's throat.
- 16:55Dude, that was slick.
- 16:56That was super awesome.
- 16:57And also when he slipped the magazine out of the pistol before he threw it down,
- 17:02like ejected the magazine while it was pointed up so he could drop the pistol
- 17:07and just keep that in his hand and he slid that up.
- 17:09That's why when Laura Flynn Boyle had it later, it was empty.
- 17:13Yeah, that was cool.
- 17:14Yeah. And then Lyle, he's a smooth operator.
- 17:18You know, when Lyle and him are tussling at the end, Lyle's dragging him over
- 17:22because there's a statue of a soldier with a bayonet.
- 17:27And Lyle's just like, I know what I'm going to do.
- 17:29I'm going to stab this fucker on that.
- 17:31Nick Cage just grabs him and chucks him on it instead.
- 17:34I did like that he kind of ghost rider Nick Cage with that chain, though.
- 17:38Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:40It was a good purge.
- 17:41I did enjoy it. I'm going to watch this movie again.
- 17:43It might work its way to my rotation.
- 17:45I like a romp.
- 17:46I like a comedy of errors.
- 17:49I like heists that have gone wrong.
- 17:50This movie has everything in it that I like in a bad movie.
- 17:54And the bonus is it's not even a bad movie.
- 17:56It's not even a bad movie.
- 17:58But did you notice that there was Rainier beer in the house that he burned down?
- 18:01I did not. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 18:02A case. Oh, awesome.
- 18:06I I do want to point out that Scotch is not
- 18:09an appropriate accelerant if you're trying to burn a house down.
- 18:13It does not have a high enough ABV.
- 18:15It's not going to burn hot enough or right
- 18:19for you to even set a blanket on fire.
- 18:22This is an arson podcast.
- 18:24I just want anybody out there who thinks that it's.
- 18:27Let's don't say that we're we're on a list for the 9 11 episode.
- 18:31Don't start saying this is an arson podcast.
- 18:34I'm just concerned with authenticity.
- 18:37We don't condone arson.
- 18:38But if you're going to do arson, don't do it with Scotch.
- 18:41Yeah, there's much cooler things.
- 18:42Just hit me up in the comments and we'll DM each other.
- 18:48Now, OK, wait, why the fuck would there have been Rainier's in Texas?
- 18:53Oh, sorry, Wyoming.
- 18:54Some of this was filmed in Montana.
- 18:56My time in Montana, I don't remember ever getting like even seen Rainier.
- 19:02We mostly drank shit like cocaine, Molson, Labatt's.
- 19:06Wasn't the burned down house type movie?
- 19:08I mean, that was an abandoned house, wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:11So it could have been transients, but how did they get it?
- 19:14I don't know. We're really deep diving on this.
- 19:17The director of photography was from Seattle, though.
- 19:19Well, there you go. We figured out the mystery. Maybe.
- 19:21But the director was from Billings, Montana.
- 19:24So he should have known better for authenticity.
- 19:27Oh, wait, one more thing before we jump to the quotes.
- 19:30All right. What the fuck was up with racing the train and jumping it?
- 19:33Oh, dude, that was fucking awesome.
- 19:35So when Lyle gets Wayne out of prison, he's got Michael driving the car.
- 19:42Wayne and Susanna are in the backseat and Lyle's up front with.
- 19:46But like so he breaks Wayne out of prison by killing like the deputy
- 19:51getting Wayne has Michael drive at gunpoint
- 19:54and they're like driving to the tracks.
- 19:57Train gets in the way and Michael's just like starting to slow down
- 20:01and Lyle just like puts his foot on Michael's foot and just like revs down
- 20:05directly at a train.
- 20:06Yeah, well, he was trying to get away because the cops saw them.
- 20:10Yeah, but like just does that with doesn't tell him to turn, just does it.
- 20:13And Michael has to like scoot down and like race the train
- 20:17and try and like hop in front of it. It was crazy.
- 20:20My note for that was them Duke boys is at it again.
- 20:23Did you hear like after the cop came back out
- 20:25and he noticed the conversation of like the truck driver and stuff over there?
- 20:29Did you hear the one resident was just like, oh, man, what an asshole.
- 20:33Oh, this movie just goes out of clip like scene to scene.
- 20:37And something happens in every scene to the point where, yeah,
- 20:40rad train chase I completely forgot about.
- 20:43Did you notice after that whole scene
- 20:46when they brought in that chick to run the dispatch for the cops
- 20:50in the background behind, you could still see the dead cop
- 20:53laying on the ground with just like a sheet over him. Yeah.
- 20:56I did like when they're all in the car,
- 20:59Lyle's talking to Wayne about how like the biggest con
- 21:03Wayne ever did was how do you become sheriff?
- 21:07It's just like I got the votes.
- 21:09But then Suzanne's like, and you buy everybody in town a beer. Yeah.
- 21:14That's how you become sheriff corruption.
- 21:17So, you know, authenticity. At least they got that one right.
- 21:21And so the final scene is they jump on the hop train with the money,
- 21:25with the bag of money.
- 21:26And she, you know, she has the gun still that no longer has the magazine.
- 21:30She's going to take the money and he's, you know, advances upon her.
- 21:35She pulls the trigger. Nothing happens.
- 21:37He like takes the money, limps over to the boxcar, open door
- 21:40and just starts throwing all the money out and then trucks her off the train.
- 21:44Well, yeah, I thought it was strange that the money in the bag
- 21:48was just loose bills.
- 21:50Well, every other time money has been presented here,
- 21:52it's been like banded from a bank.
- 21:54There was even one banded piece of money that came out of the bag
- 21:59and stayed on the train that Nick Cage found.
- 22:02All the money was loose, except for the one that landed in the train.
- 22:06Everything else blew away. Yeah.
- 22:08And then absurd.
- 22:10After he throws her off the train, he slumps down off to his next adventure
- 22:13and out of his coat, he pulls one stack of cash.
- 22:16It wasn't out of his coat. It was trapped in the door.
- 22:19It was trapped in the doorway. That's right. Yeah.
- 22:20Yeah. And then he just says, Adios, Red Rocks.
- 22:26Adios, Weddwock.
- 22:27Weddwock. Adios, Weddwock.
- 22:31Do you have a now he's waddo?
- 22:35Do you have a quote, Nick?
- 22:36Hold on. Did anybody else legitimately think that they saw Nick Cage's penis?
- 22:42I had to back it up like five times and I was like,
- 22:44are we just seeing his fucking meaty dork right there?
- 22:48And I'm pretty sure it was like the other side of his side.
- 22:51This was in the scene at the comfort in when he and Suzanne are getting it on.
- 22:57Yeah. And she like, you know, slides down the stomach doing the
- 23:00I'm going to give you the time of your life thing.
- 23:04She's kind of give it a head.
- 23:06And it just really, really
- 23:10suggestively looks like his wiener. OK.
- 23:13Well, we've seen while we're on the subject of his wiener,
- 23:16you have some on the subject of Nick Cage's body
- 23:19because we've seen his body a lot.
- 23:21That's Sternenbush.
- 23:22He is a hairy man in this film. Oh, yeah.
- 23:25Whereas I think the most other recent time we've seen his
- 23:29chastular region was Ghost Rider.
- 23:31We is smooth like a baby.
- 23:33Yeah. Most times it seems like he's a well,
- 23:38most times when he's in a role where he's in fairly decent shape,
- 23:42it looks like he does a lot of manscaping.
- 23:45There's a lot of times where it's like, oh, you're just like hairy.
- 23:49Or it could be a chest marking.
- 23:50Could be a chest marking.
- 23:51I just want to say chest marking quotes.
- 23:54Mine was Fuck Mexico.
- 23:56That is a pretty good one.
- 23:57Now, we kind of covered both of mine, but I think I really liked the one
- 24:02where they start up the Jeep, looks at the gas tank on empty
- 24:06and just story my fucking life.
- 24:09So I'm glad we just casually discussed all of our quotes
- 24:12and really kind of shit the bed here and the big reveal for that.
- 24:16Yeah, I'm just going to really chop them up.
- 24:18That's good. My quote is when
- 24:22and you don't. Mexico.
- 24:26So our second film today was Army of One.
- 24:30I mean, Dying of the Light.
- 24:32It pretty much is just Army of One.
- 24:34Nicolas Cage plays an insane person trying to track down a terrorist.
- 24:38Just this time written and directed by Paul Schrader.
- 24:41So just listen to our Army of One episode and then our doggy dog episode.
- 24:47You'll pretty much have all our thoughts on this one.
- 24:49Thanks for listening.
- 24:50Yeah, good episode, guys.
- 24:52No, this one is terrible.
- 24:56Not to give up the ghost too early on which is going to win,
- 24:58but we were not looking forward to this and it did not disappoint
- 25:02with being disappointed.
- 25:03Before we get into this, I do.
- 25:06This might be an unfair pairing
- 25:09because the whole reason dog eat dog happened
- 25:12was because Paul Schrader wanted a redo with Nick Cage
- 25:16because this movie Dying of the Light was taken out of his hands
- 25:20in the editing process.
- 25:21So he and Nicolas Cage feel like the movie that we were given
- 25:25by the studio does not actually fairly represent their work.
- 25:30I can't remember because I purged everything about dog eat dog out of my brain.
- 25:34Did he get final cut on that on dog eat dog?
- 25:37Yeah. Yes.
- 25:38Then they're both they're both terrible.
- 25:41Yeah. Did you guys do any diving into trying to find his recut?
- 25:47There is not and will never be a recut.
- 25:49There is a recut.
- 25:51He took the theatrical version and reedited it to be closer to his initial idea.
- 25:56But no new film.
- 25:57Just he took what was released and like, yeah, it's called dark.
- 26:01Yeah, the audio is kind of fucked up.
- 26:03And yeah, it's I found it and I started watching some of it,
- 26:07but I didn't watch this actual movie.
- 26:08So I was like, this doesn't mean shit to me.
- 26:10I don't care enough to to see what that would look like.
- 26:14I don't consider that truly his cut of the movie.
- 26:18Well, it's no, I'm not asking for a Zack Snyder situation
- 26:22because that was bullshit, too.
- 26:23I don't think anyone is really deeply asking for a Paul Schrader cut.
- 26:26Give us the Schrader cut.
- 26:27I want to give us a schrader to give me four hours every time Nick Cage is on screen.
- 26:32It has to start with like slow motion and Amazon music.
- 26:36And so this film stars Nicolas Cage as CIA agent Evan Lake,
- 26:41Anton Yelchin, which sad as Milt Schultz
- 26:46and Alexander Kareem as Mohammed Baner.
- 26:49So Nick Cage plays an older CIA agent
- 26:53CIA agent who has been on desk duty
- 26:57for about 22 years after being tortured by Baner
- 27:01in a pretty gruesome little torture sequence.
- 27:04Nick Cage has got a fucked up ear the whole time because he gets tremors to it.
- 27:08And all I could think was, you know, you think he fucked up his own ear
- 27:10to be more accurate to the character like he did with the birdie?
- 27:13No, because the prosthetic looked awful.
- 27:16Yeah, it looked so bad.
- 27:18I mean, you could tell it was just something built off of his ear.
- 27:21Yeah. So now he had one really like kind of wing shaped ear.
- 27:25Bizarre.
- 27:26Later on, we used to go into go undercover.
- 27:28They spirit glue some hair onto his face and give him like a fake ear covering,
- 27:33which is just him without the bad prosthetic on it.
- 27:36But when he does take that off for the big reveal at the end,
- 27:38it's just the big bad prosthetic with an even worse prosthetic glued over.
- 27:43You don't see him take like the disguise off.
- 27:46It's just like he reaches up to take it off, cut to Baner
- 27:51and then cut back to Nicholas Cage.
- 27:53And he's just got it pulling away from his face.
- 27:56It was like, hey, you've got something in your ear.
- 27:59Oh, how did this quarter get here?
- 28:01How did my disguise?
- 28:02Oh, how did the CIA credentials show up?
- 28:05So he has been obsessed with Baner for 22 years since he'd been tortured.
- 28:10I guess rightfully so.
- 28:11Someone like took a cricket bat to my head and cut my ear off.
- 28:15I'd be mad. And he wants back in the field.
- 28:18They're trying to push him out.
- 28:19They're trying to get him to retire because he has dementia.
- 28:23Like he like he goes to a doctor far away and like tries to hide it from,
- 28:27you know, CIA.
- 28:28He finds out that he has FTD frontal temporal dementia.
- 28:33And the next time he goes in, he goes to the Pentagon.
- 28:36The director calls him into the office and like, you don't think we keep track
- 28:41of like medical records for our agents?
- 28:43What's the conceit of this entire thing?
- 28:45Is it to make him an unreliable narrator?
- 28:48Like, oh, well, fuck.
- 28:50What's the point?
- 28:51There is none.
- 28:52It's just he wants revenge and he is losing his mind and he wants to like,
- 28:57finish this last case before he's completely gone.
- 29:00But this is the biggest waste of the film for a Nick Cage film.
- 29:03You mean like, why give him this disease?
- 29:06It's just to complicate things.
- 29:08I'll try to give this like a quick two minute linear.
- 29:11Yeah, because I didn't watch.
- 29:13Yes. So the people at home almost certainly didn't.
- 29:17And I don't know why I own this movie on Blu Ray and it's beautiful.
- 29:21So Evan, I almost call him Evan Stone.
- 29:24It's Evan Lake, the very different actors.
- 29:27It would have gotten the exact same performance.
- 29:30Both storied careers.
- 29:31Evan is tortured by this terrorist.
- 29:35Some American agents bust through a wall, Kool-Aid man style.
- 29:40They save him in the rescue.
- 29:42They determine that Benir is dead because there's this body.
- 29:46It doesn't have a head, though, so they can't like definitively say,
- 29:50but they're all like, Benir's dead.
- 29:52And like, here's the body.
- 29:53And Evan, but I keep wanting to call him Evan Stone.
- 29:56Evan, he's a porn star, people, and an awesome one.
- 30:01Evan is convinced that he never died.
- 30:04He gets put on desk duty.
- 30:05He does like speeches for recruits and things like that.
- 30:09Basically, he gets way demoted because of this.
- 30:15And he's always trying to like find leads or whatever
- 30:18into whatever could have happened to Benir.
- 30:20But can't. He's just like he's hit a stone wall until one day,
- 30:24this Kenyan courier gets busted in Bucharest,
- 30:29picking up some shit from a doctor.
- 30:32He had a USB drive.
- 30:34And when he's caught, there's a chase.
- 30:38He ends up throwing his USB drive into the river and jumping in.
- 30:43The cops go and they like drag it.
- 30:44They find it.
- 30:45And they find all these like they say they find.
- 30:48Porn, Islamic scriptures, angry birds and medical records on this USB drive.
- 30:55And so they're like, well, it's kind of damaged.
- 30:57We can't really read it.
- 30:58So they send it off to Langley.
- 31:00And that's how it gets back to Evan that there's these medical records.
- 31:06And he's like, oh, like Benir's dad had this disease and like these drugs are used for
- 31:12treating that disease.
- 31:13So finally, you know, like something's going to happen.
- 31:16So finally, you know, like something's come out, like we can chase this down.
- 31:21Experimental drugs for a type of rare type of anemia.
- 31:24Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:25So you see that Benir's got this like blood disease.
- 31:29He's got bad bloods, just like Nicolas Cage has a bad brain in this one.
- 31:34I think that even comes up in their fight.
- 31:36Is there a dialysis fight?
- 31:38No.
- 31:39Fuck.
- 31:39Kind of.
- 31:40Well, no dialysis.
- 31:41But he's hooked up to a dialysis machine.
- 31:43Benir is.
- 31:44OK.
- 31:46Either way.
- 31:47So it's the exact same movie.
- 31:49When Evan brings this up, like all this information up to the CIA director,
- 31:55the director basically starts to like say, no, that's not true.
- 32:00We put a pin in it.
- 32:02This is done.
- 32:03You're going to have to like just give it up.
- 32:05Then we get scenes with Nicolas Cage finding out he's got this frontotemporal
- 32:10dementia, which is going to kill him a lot faster than Alzheimer's.
- 32:13And so he really just kind of wants to take out Benir at this point.
- 32:18He's like, I've got a lot of time.
- 32:19And then the CIA has found out that he has this brain disease.
- 32:24So they're like, hey, man, you can't do your job anymore.
- 32:28You got brain disease.
- 32:29You got the brains and you got the brain.
- 32:32You got the brain.
- 32:33Well, you don't have the brains. Hence why you have to go.
- 32:35Yeah. So he's like, there was a fit.
- 32:39They escort him out.
- 32:40His protege, Milt, the one who brought him the information in the first place,
- 32:46played by Anton Yelchin, comes to his house with his stuff later.
- 32:49And Nicolas Cage offers him some sake,
- 32:53because apparently that's what his character drinks,
- 32:54because he goes through two bottles of it in this scene.
- 32:58They go over the case and Nick Cage kind of just lays out that,
- 33:02you know, he's going to he's going to do it.
- 33:04He's just going to go find Benir and like take care of this himself.
- 33:07Anton Yelchin and Nick Cage go on a wild adventure to Bucharest,
- 33:12find this doctor, confront him and kind of pressure him into like turning.
- 33:18So like he'll set up another meeting with Benir's people.
- 33:22Benir's right hand man went to Bucharest because the Kenyan never came back.
- 33:27Yeah. And obviously he needs the medicine.
- 33:30So he's sending more people.
- 33:31Also was to bring the doctor back to him.
- 33:34Yeah. So now they're going to do a swap once they've, you know, killed Benir's guy
- 33:40so that there's no nobody who can say, hey, that's not the doctor.
- 33:44They dress Nick Cage up as the doctor.
- 33:46He goes to Mombasa, the asshole of Africa.
- 33:49Not my words.
- 33:50I just have to make that clear because I say a lot of terrible things,
- 33:53but I'm not going to put down Mombasa.
- 33:55I have a lot of respect for Mombasa.
- 33:57So he goes out there.
- 33:59They have a scene where Nick Cage, you know, as a doctor shows up
- 34:04and he is talking to Benir and goes to the bathroom.
- 34:09He's like, oh, the toilet won't flush.
- 34:11So Benir's bodyguard goes in there and Nick Cage,
- 34:14karate chops him and like knocks him out and locks him in the bathroom.
- 34:19Then he goes back out and he's talking to Benir and he's like, oh man,
- 34:24your situation's a lot worse than I had expected.
- 34:27Blah, blah, blah. Not only is it deteriorating, I'm not a doctor.
- 34:32And he like takes off the mustache and takes off the little goatee
- 34:37and the fake ear.
- 34:38Yeah. And that's when he's like doing the fake ear thing,
- 34:41the real ear to fake ear to prosthetic prosthetic ear.
- 34:45Yeah, it's earception. And
- 34:49I was in Evan Stone movie.
- 34:52OK, there's my one joke for the episode.
- 34:53I'm going to go back to bed.
- 34:55And then they kind of like get all up about each other.
- 35:00But he's been Nick Cage has been drugged.
- 35:02And so they just kind of argue for a little while.
- 35:06And there's a lot of PTSD moments.
- 35:08He hasn't been drugged.
- 35:09This is like really the one time we see the unreliable sensory perceptions
- 35:14because he starts flashing back to the torture while Benir is kind of lecturing
- 35:18to him. And so Nick Cage is in and out of the moment.
- 35:23And they kind of both realize that they're both dying.
- 35:26And just Nick Cage just kind of walks out of there.
- 35:29They even like say goodbye to each other.
- 35:31It all kind of like stopped when it was like the call to prayer goes off.
- 35:35And when he was like, oh, would you help me to like set up my prayer rug?
- 35:40And Cage is like, no, I won't do that.
- 35:42And then he just like walks out.
- 35:44Yeah, that was a good Gary voice.
- 35:46Yeah, it's like the same movie is the same movie.
- 35:49One man goes to another country to bring a terrorist back for justice.
- 35:53How much is left in this?
- 35:55Oh, like 10 minutes.
- 35:56Yeah. Of me describing.
- 35:58Yes. This next scene, though, is probably my favorite scene.
- 36:03Oh, yeah. The credits.
- 36:05The pool party. Nick Cage goes back to the hotel, meets up with the
- 36:10Milt and just tells him like, yeah, I just left him there.
- 36:13Oh, I thought he told him like he killed him.
- 36:15Like when they when Milt's picking him up in the car.
- 36:17Oh, that's not like how was it? Oh, yeah.
- 36:19Was it everything you wanted?
- 36:20And he's like, oh, man, you should have heard him scream.
- 36:23That's right. And it's no.
- 36:24But then he's just talking about like all the normal stuff he's going to do
- 36:26when he gets back home and they're just at this nice hotel pool.
- 36:30And then everybody gets shot.
- 36:32Yeah. I mean, not everybody, but like Milt gets shot and he's down.
- 36:37And then there's just like bullets flying.
- 36:38A lot of other people and so much bad CG bullet holes in people
- 36:44and like that aren't rendered correctly.
- 36:46And it just looks horrible.
- 36:48Yeah. And it wasn't jujitsu bad, but that's what I was trying to think.
- 36:52I'm like, where have we seen this before?
- 36:53Yeah, it wasn't quite that bad.
- 36:54And then he does. Then he goes back.
- 36:56Yeah, there's a chase.
- 36:57He like fights a couple like Kenyan bodyguards or well, like terrorist bodyguards
- 37:03and steals a van from one of them and then goes back to.
- 37:07And that's when they have their tussle.
- 37:09And then there's old man fight, which has all the energy of two dying old men
- 37:14rolling on the ground until Nicholas Cage stabs Binyar
- 37:18in the fucking eye with his finger, like holding him down and just slowly.
- 37:23Like, well, Binyar is resisting, pushes his finger through his eye
- 37:27and then you're just dies immediately from that.
- 37:30I want to die immediately.
- 37:34And then while driving back, Evans just like had enough of it.
- 37:39So he like swerves and just like pitches the van.
- 37:43The van in front of a semi and kills himself.
- 37:47Fuck that.
- 37:48Harrison Ford was originally approached to do this,
- 37:51but he didn't want to because of what he cited.
- 37:56I'm sure there was more than just this, but his reason for not doing it
- 38:00was the bleak ending of the movie.
- 38:05Did you see who was supposed to be the the young trainee with Harrison Ford?
- 38:09No. Channing Tatum.
- 38:11Oh, that would have been a much better film.
- 38:13And it shouldn't have been directed by Schrader.
- 38:16I've tried to name my tools at work after like Channing Tatum relating things
- 38:22like my channel locks.
- 38:23I just call my Channing Tatums and my my wire strippers.
- 38:27I call my magic Mike. There we go.
- 38:29That's good. But do you have a Jupiter ascending?
- 38:33I do right now.
- 38:35This movie, as a Nick Cage film, is so wasted
- 38:38because of the whole story element of him having frontal temporal dementia.
- 38:43Because let me give you this is early in the film.
- 38:45And when these symptoms are listed, I get I get so excited.
- 38:50The doctor's like, you'll be subject to overreaction.
- 38:53Perfect for Nick Cage mood swings.
- 38:55Hell, yeah. Unreliable sensory perception.
- 38:58That could be fun.
- 38:59And he kind of just gets uppity and yells at people and tells them to fuck off a lot.
- 39:04Yeah, he's just kind of fussy.
- 39:06He's yeah, he's just like a fussy old man.
- 39:08He like twice he mixes up his words.
- 39:10Yeah, like he diamond diamond ruby diamond Tuesdays.
- 39:14And that's why I know it was like Ruby Tuesdays.
- 39:17He likes it.
- 39:18Tells the director, the CIA director to fuck off when security comes to like
- 39:24you have to leave the premises.
- 39:25He starts like hocking his medals and trophies at them.
- 39:29And like he gets hauled out of hauled out of there.
- 39:33I just jumped around to random points on the timeline
- 39:36and watched like 30 second clips.
- 39:38One of them that stood out to me is he's talking to Anton Yelchin.
- 39:41He sticks his hand out and then he puts a book on it.
- 39:44Oh, that was like, what's that about?
- 39:45Oh, so he's got like a shaky hand.
- 39:47He's getting tremors.
- 39:48Yeah. So he like sticks his hand out.
- 39:51He's like, put that dictionary on my hand.
- 39:54And then like not even half a beat later, he's just like,
- 39:58it's that orange book on the I have a quote here because this was my quote.
- 40:02It's like, put that dictionary on my hand.
- 40:05It's a book. It's yellow and it's a dictionary.
- 40:10Yeah. And obviously, it melts like I know what a dictionary is, asshole.
- 40:14Just the dialogue in this movie is so atrocious.
- 40:18But like, OK, Nick Cage, actor famously known for going over
- 40:22the top insane performances and has given a character
- 40:26who is supposed to be subject to overreaction and just losing his shit.
- 40:30And all he does is just kind of silently see
- 40:34than when he's told to put out a cigarette in a restaurant.
- 40:37He just gets angry.
- 40:39Yeah. You could have done so much more with that.
- 40:42Yeah, it was a real letdown.
- 40:43But it's kind of like if somebody tells you to do something and you're just like, no,
- 40:47yeah, I don't want to. That's really it.
- 40:49I don't want to overreact.
- 40:51I'm going to sit here and do nothing because I do that all the time.
- 40:57I know. That's how every one of these podcasts starts before we start rolling.
- 41:01Very easy to manipulate.
- 41:02You just have to tell me not to do something and I will do it.
- 41:08Anton Yelchin, I have a hard time looking at his face
- 41:11because he looks kind of like a baby and an old man at the exact same time.
- 41:15You mean like babies do? Yeah.
- 41:19Nick, I'm glad you gave the the breakdown of this film
- 41:21because I was just looking at my notes for like the timeline of this film.
- 41:25And I'm like, all right, frontal temporal dementia, but you're also sick.
- 41:28Hereditary anemia.
- 41:30A bunch of shit happens. Milt kills a guy. Oh, man.
- 41:33Yeah, you got it.
- 41:35How fucking bad is everybody at surveillance in this movie?
- 41:41Like the Bucharest police are like across the parking lot
- 41:45when the Kenyan courier comes out
- 41:49and they're like talking about him and they're in a car and he goes to his car.
- 41:53And like before he even gets into his car, the cops turn on their car
- 41:59and like their headlights come up and then the Kenyan sees them.
- 42:02And it's like, oh, shit, he's made us.
- 42:04You guys suck at surveillance.
- 42:06So then they like try to follow him and it turns into a chase.
- 42:09Then at the end, it's like Evan and Milt are in Bucharest
- 42:14and they're trying to find who the new Kenyan guy is going to be
- 42:18when he shows up at the hospital.
- 42:20So they're like staking out out front and then they see him.
- 42:23And then like they watch him again later.
- 42:25But they're like all the way across this like festival grounds that's getting set up.
- 42:30And they're sitting at a table and both of them are just turned
- 42:34180 degrees or whatever.
- 42:36It's a look at this guy and they're staring him down.
- 42:39So like he comes out of the building and looks out and is like two white dudes
- 42:44just fucking mean mugging you.
- 42:46So he ran. Yeah.
- 42:48Does the CIA agent count as a cop?
- 42:51I was going to ask that. Yeah.
- 42:53They're all still government.
- 42:55I put this in the bad cop category.
- 42:58Anton Yelchin counts as a good kid, though.
- 43:00Yeah. Good kid. Bad cop. Good kid.
- 43:02Bad cop. Good kid. Bad cop.
- 43:06Yeah, I think a kid bad cop. Bad cop.
- 43:09I want to go back to that that socky thing.
- 43:12Like they've got him drinking socky and then later he's in the hotel room.
- 43:17He's just sitting full lotus on the bed.
- 43:20It's like, what the fuck is with this character?
- 43:23Like why they never talk about it?
- 43:26There's no justification for things like I'm fine with
- 43:29characters existing beyond the movie.
- 43:32And I'm OK with like I don't need to have some like everything explained out,
- 43:38like why they are the way they are.
- 43:41But these are just two isolated incidents
- 43:45on either side of the movie that points him to like being a big Japan file
- 43:50or whatever, a weeaboo weeaboo weeaboo.
- 43:53Yeah, weeaboo. Is that offensive?
- 43:56Not to me, because I'm not a nerd.
- 43:59I fucking don't care.
- 44:01I'm not even going to look this one up.
- 44:04Yeah, just publish it, Peter.
- 44:07We're doing a no edit episode.
- 44:11Yeah, I just don't understand.
- 44:13Like those are two things like every other time he drinks a lot in this movie.
- 44:18And it's a whiskey, except for when he's at his house
- 44:21and he drinks two bottles of sake, well, him and milked.
- 44:24That second bottle, he was just mainlining now. Oh, yeah.
- 44:27Then at the end of the movie, he's just sitting in like the full lotus position.
- 44:33Why is why are you doing this?
- 44:35Paul Schrader, why do you do this to us?
- 44:38Because he doesn't think.
- 44:40Yeah, I feel like at this point, I've seen enough Paul Schrader stuff to just
- 44:45know that I don't like him. Yeah.
- 44:47I'm kind of curious why Cage wanted to work with him
- 44:52and then wanted to work with him again.
- 44:54I mean, I get what happened with the, you know, director's cut.
- 44:57Yeah, Cage does like to do things to challenge himself, as we've learned.
- 45:02Did you feel like he was challenged in this?
- 45:05I mean, he did it for a million dollars.
- 45:07That's a lot less money than normal.
- 45:09So that is a challenge.
- 45:10This movie had a five million dollar budget.
- 45:14And one million.
- 45:15That was Nick Cage's take home.
- 45:18And it didn't make fuck all for money.
- 45:20No, it did not. It made under 700000 worldwide.
- 45:25So what's your what's your quote from this film, Nick?
- 45:28Geez, there's so many things that like I enjoyed for different reasons.
- 45:32Like there's some lines that are just bad.
- 45:35There's bad deliveries there.
- 45:37My favorite bad delivery is Nicholas Cage is talking about
- 45:42like how they're going to get veneer because he's got this
- 45:45disease and stuff, and he's just like, but you just got it.
- 45:49It's come out.
- 45:50It's in his blood.
- 45:51And it's like, what the fuck?
- 45:54And he gives it like this stupid like head slide with like sneer.
- 45:58It's in his blood.
- 45:59It's like, Jesus.
- 46:01His first big line in this film is when he comes out on stage.
- 46:04It's so we see him getting tortured.
- 46:07We see him get hit with a cricket bat.
- 46:08Twenty two. Then it immediately cuts to 22 years later.
- 46:12Evan looks exactly the same except he has gray hair.
- 46:14Now and it fucked up here.
- 46:16And he walks out on stage to talk to like new CIA cadets.
- 46:20And I'm not going to do the whole line, but like just the delivery
- 46:23and the and the writing here just told me this was going to be awful,
- 46:28which is what the hell are you doing here?
- 46:31Haven't you heard the CIA fell from the Berlin wall
- 46:34and all the president's men can't put it back together again?
- 46:37Yeah, it's awful. It's the dumbest little speech.
- 46:40It's broke. It's not reliable, not trustworthy.
- 46:44And it just keeps going.
- 46:45And for some reason, like it's in like a freezing cold room
- 46:49because you can see the steam on his breath.
- 46:50But all the cadets are in T-shirts.
- 46:53I do like one of his better freakouts, though, to the CIA director.
- 46:56You've got your head so far up Obama's ass that all you can see is his shit anymore.
- 47:01OK. Well, so this isn't like a favorite quote, but I liked it.
- 47:06And I want to it bounces off of Sean mentioned
- 47:10when he was told to put out a cigarette earlier.
- 47:12He pulls out his like plane ticket or whatever.
- 47:15Let me check something. Yep. I am in Romania.
- 47:19Are you out of your fucking mind?
- 47:20This whole country is a smoking section.
- 47:23I couldn't remember the exact quote. That's why.
- 47:26Yeah. This next quote starts with the name Baniere,
- 47:29but my phone auto corrected it to beanie.
- 47:31So I'm just going to read it as my phone has it.
- 47:33Beanie boy. Yeah.
- 47:35It's just like beanie. You think you can hide?
- 47:38Nobody can hide from the Reaper.
- 47:40Are you the Reaper? Yes.
- 47:43Of our time, this and Dog Eat Dog, like the two
- 47:46Schrader films we've watched for this have been God awful.
- 47:51This might be my least favorite and least rewatchable film to date.
- 47:56Dog Eat Dog is at least so weird and has so many just what the fuck moments
- 48:01that I was entertained and willing to show that I was entertained
- 48:04enough to watch it twice.
- 48:06I couldn't watch this one the second time.
- 48:08This one is a bit of a slog.
- 48:11I mean, I still watched it twice, but I'm just made of tougher, stronger stuff.
- 48:15Yeah, that's fine. I don't. I got that good metal.
- 48:17Oh, yeah, that's it. You can have that.
- 48:19You can have that metal.
- 48:21I'm going to I'm going to keep those 90 minutes of my life.
- 48:23Oh, man. Nick, which movie would you like to move forward with?
- 48:28That's a really tough one, because I've already set the president
- 48:32of liking Army of One.
- 48:36But this isn't nearly as unhinged as that.
- 48:39No, and that's unfortunate.
- 48:40Yeah, this one actually should have been more extreme
- 48:45than the true story.
- 48:47But it wasn't.
- 48:49No, I mean, Red Rock West.
- 48:51Yeah, Red Rock West. But just to go to your point real quick,
- 48:54you know, sign up for a Patreon.
- 48:56And if you give us enough money that we can take enough time off,
- 48:58we'll we'll recut this film with.
- 49:00Oh, an Army of One mashup. Yeah.
- 49:02Oh, yeah. So we can watch it dark and then mash it up with Army of One.
- 49:06Yeah, and we'll just replace all of Evan,
- 49:08Evan Lake's characters with Gary with Gary.
- 49:12I fucking love it.
- 49:13So sign up for a Patreon like and like and subscribe.
- 49:18Next episode, we've got Raising Arizona.
- 49:20Yes. Trapped in Paradise with Dana Carvey and John Lovitz.
- 49:25Oh, just to say it again,
- 49:28Red Rock West one, not yes, not this terrible Paul Schrader movie.
- 49:35No. All right. Thanks for listening.
- 49:39I'll do more coke next time somewhere awake.
- 49:41Cool. Yeah.
- 49:43Great review. Subscribe.
- 49:44Someone give Nick a comment, please. God somebody.
- 49:47I just want to stop talking about the comments.
- 49:50Mostly so we can figure out where they are.
- 49:52All right. All right. From all of us here in my apartment.
- 49:59Good night. God bless.
- 50:02By Nicholas Cage. Bye.
- 50:08Or didn't hear that.
- 50:09God damn it.
- 50:11More. I just hit myself in the face with my own microphone.
- 50:16I have done that so many times.
- 50:18I fucking hate both of you.
- 50:20Why did you let me talk you into this?
- 50:23Well, it sounds like a you problem. I'm aware.
- 50:26Look, I'm just here because you have a bathroom and limited toilet paper.
- 50:29Thanks, Hayden. You're supposed to buy toilet paper today.
