- 0:09Constance Lavonice: If you've ever asked yourself, is this it?
- 0:13Constance Lavonice: Or is this all there is?
- 0:16Constance Lavonice: If you've ever found yourself facing the same struggles, the same self-defeating thoughts, the same emotional patterns, or even the same behaviors you had before you came to Christ, this conversation is for you.
- 0:35Constance Lavonice: Welcome to Whole Heart Conversations, a place for Christian women to grow spiritually, heal emotionally, and live whole.
- 0:44Constance Lavonice: I'm your host, Constance Lavonice.
- 0:48Constance Lavonice: I wonder if you've ever had a conversation like this.
- 0:52Constance Lavonice: I know I'm a new creation in Christ.
- 0:56Constance Lavonice: Or at least that's what the Bible says.
- 0:59Constance Lavonice: So why do I still think like the old me?
- 1:04Constance Lavonice: I know the Holy Spirit lives in me, but what difference is it making?
- 1:11Constance Lavonice: Jesus says in John 8 28, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
- 1:21Constance Lavonice: So if we know the truth, why are we still living from the lie?
- 1:28Constance Lavonice: I want to remind you that the moment that we first come to Christ, we receive a new identity.
- 1:39Constance Lavonice: We're forgiven of our sin.
- 1:42Constance Lavonice: We're adopted into the family of God.
- 1:46Constance Lavonice: And God sees us clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
- 1:51Constance Lavonice: We are no longer defined by our past.
- 1:56Constance Lavonice: At the moment of salvation, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
- 2:03Constance Lavonice: The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us.
- 2:09Constance Lavonice: We have access to all the power of God within us.
- 2:15Constance Lavonice: We are brand new.
- 2:19Constance Lavonice: We are transformed spiritually.
- 2:23Constance Lavonice: And that's a spiritual reality.
- 2:27Constance Lavonice: In our spirit, we possess the Holy Spirit.
- 2:33Constance Lavonice: But remember, we're not just spirit.
- 2:37Constance Lavonice: We have a soul, our mind, will, and emotions, and a body.
- 2:44Constance Lavonice: Our mind and emotions are not changed at that moment.
- 2:50Constance Lavonice: And that's why we can be genuinely saved and still struggle to live like the woman God says we are.
- 3:00Constance Lavonice: Even though we have a new identity, we can think with an old mind and repeat old behavior patterns.
- 3:12Constance Lavonice: So it's important to remember we are a spirit with a soul, mind, will, emotions, and we live in a body.
- 3:25Constance Lavonice: That's why Paul tells us in Romans 12, too, do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
- 3:39Constance Lavonice: The renewing is a process.
- 3:42Constance Lavonice: Our spirit changes at the moment of salvation, but our mind and emotions are still in the process of renewing.
- 3:53Constance Lavonice: So this is why we may know the truth intellectually, but struggle to experience it emotionally.
- 4:04Constance Lavonice: You know that you're loved by God, but emotionally, you still feel that you have to earn God's love.
- 4:14Constance Lavonice: And some of us in our thinking process have been rehearsing lies for years.
- 4:23Constance Lavonice: I'm not good enough.
- 4:25Constance Lavonice: If they really knew me, they wouldn't love me.
- 4:29Constance Lavonice: This is just who I am.
- 4:31Constance Lavonice: What do you do with these thoughts?
- 4:35Constance Lavonice: Second Corinthians chapter 10, verse 5 tells us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
- 4:47Constance Lavonice: First, we need to examine it, identify the lie, and replace it with the truth.
- 4:56Constance Lavonice: Is this thought consistent with God's word?
- 5:01Constance Lavonice: Does it reflect God's character?
- 5:05Constance Lavonice: Is this what God has actually said about me?
- 5:09Constance Lavonice: Or is this an old belief that I've learned somewhere along the way?
- 5:16Constance Lavonice: In order to replace the lie with the truth, you have to know the truth.
- 5:23Constance Lavonice: And this is why the realization of your transformed brand new spirit is important.
- 5:34Constance Lavonice: Let's look at some scriptures in the book of John.
- 5:39Constance Lavonice: In John 14, 16 and 17, Jesus is talking to his disciples.
- 5:48Constance Lavonice: He tells them, I will ask the Father and He will give you another helper.
- 5:55Constance Lavonice: The helper is the Spirit of Truth.
- 5:59Constance Lavonice: He remains with you and will be in you.
- 6:04Constance Lavonice: We find the truth in God's Word.
- 6:30Constance Lavonice: The Holy Spirit within us is our helper, the Spirit of Truth, who teaches us all things, reminds us of all things pertaining to the Word of God, and guides us into all truth.
- 6:46Constance Lavonice: That spirit, your spirit, will teach, remind, and guide your mind as you examine and identify the lies you're carrying that do not align with God's word.
- 7:05Constance Lavonice: To know the truth means to get into God's word.
- 7:10Constance Lavonice: Don't just read scriptures for information.
- 7:14Constance Lavonice: Read it for transformation.
- 7:18Constance Lavonice: Ask yourself, what does this scripture tell me about God?
- 7:23Constance Lavonice: What does it tell me about who I am?
- 7:27Constance Lavonice: Remember, God is spirit, and those who worship Him worship Him in spirit and truth.
- 7:35Constance Lavonice: Reading Scripture, meditating on Scripture, praying, spending time with God are forms of worship.
- 7:45Constance Lavonice: God's word speaks directly to your spirit.
- 7:50Constance Lavonice: We can't see the spirit, but it's there.
- 7:53Constance Lavonice: We are spirit.
- 7:56Constance Lavonice: Just like we can't see ourselves directly unless we look into a mirror.
- 8:03Constance Lavonice: And when we look into the mirror, we only see a reflection of ourself.
- 8:10Constance Lavonice: The Bible reflects our spirit.
- 8:15Constance Lavonice: Our transformed spirit is the part of us that communes with God.
- 8:23Constance Lavonice: And as we commune with God in our spirit, it overflows into our soul, our mind, and emotions.
- 8:32Constance Lavonice: And we begin to renew our minds when we start to identify the lies and begin to take thoughts captive.
- 8:43Constance Lavonice: When we're in the word, the word begins to reveal the truth.
- 8:52Constance Lavonice: That's why it's important to read God's word, which allows us to notice the lie that's inconsistent with God's word, your internal dialogue that you tell yourself or that you've heard about yourself, but it isn't true.
- 9:15Constance Lavonice: So ask yourself: how does what I believe reconcile with God's word?
- 9:23Constance Lavonice: And then finally, practice the truth.
- 9:28Constance Lavonice: If you know that the word says that you are the righteousness of God, practice praying and speaking to God in confidence and boldness, making your request known and expecting Him to hear.
- 9:45Constance Lavonice: When God's word says, You are mine, and you think that you don't really matter, pull your shoulders back, lift your head, practice looking at others in the eye, and anticipate receiving good in your life.
- 10:05Constance Lavonice: God isn't asking you to be someone you're not, He's transforming you into who you were created to be in Christ.
- 10:17Constance Lavonice: You have the Holy Spirit, you have God's word, and you don't have to walk this journey alone.
- 10:27Constance Lavonice: So this week I want you to identify one lie that you've been living from.
- 10:35Constance Lavonice: Maybe it's I'm unlovable or I'm not enough.
- 10:41Constance Lavonice: Write it down and find a scripture that directly challenges that lie and then write God's truth beside it.
- 10:52Constance Lavonice: And every time that old thought comes up, respond, answer it with a truth.
- 11:04Constance Lavonice: And if you get weary in the process, don't be discouraged.
- 11:10Constance Lavonice: In 2 Corinthians 12 9, God says, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness, and I can testify to that.
- 11:29Constance Lavonice: If this conversation resonated with you, please subscribe and share it with a friend who may need to hear this truth and leave a review so more women can find wholeheart conversations.
- 11:43Constance Lavonice: And Father God, I thank you for everyone listening and ask that you fill each with a fresh anointing of your Holy Spirit and help them to know your word, recognize the lie, encounter it with the truth.
- 12:05Constance Lavonice: In Jesus' name, amen.
