- 0:00Hello and welcome to Blush, the world's first Wellness show
- 0:02that's actually entertaining. I'm Heva and I quit law so I can
- 0:06help you look and feel your best.
- 0:08Together we got into food, nutrition, all the latest
- 0:11Wellness trends, but we also laugh, get silly, drop a few F
- 0:14OPS and go on a million tangents.
- 0:17So if that sounds like your vibe, we're about to be best
- 0:19friends. Hi, Merry Christmas if you
- 0:23celebrate and if not merry, there's nothing to fucking do
- 0:28Today day. Actually it's not so bad
- 0:31nowadays I feel like, but I remember when I was younger,
- 0:35before there was streaming and stuff, there was like nothing on
- 0:38TV on Christmas. Everything was fucking closed
- 0:41and your friends were busy with their stupid families.
- 0:47It was not the vibe I really fucking hated.
- 0:49And then when I was in college, I hated coming home for the
- 0:52holidays because I just didn't like, if I'm being really
- 0:56honest, I didn't really like being back at my parents house.
- 0:59And you know, everyone's kind of like busy with their families.
- 1:05And I just always, Christmas always brought up a feeling of
- 1:11lack for me and just this mourning what my family could
- 1:17have been. I always wanted a really fun
- 1:19family. We had really fun holiday
- 1:22traditions and I'd hear about some of my friends holiday
- 1:25traditions and how fun they were and just how much laughter and
- 1:28joy was in the house. And my house was dreary in the
- 1:33best of times and World War Three, the worst of times, but
- 1:36not a lot of laughter and joy. And, and no offense, you know,
- 1:41I, I love my parents. We have a great relationship
- 1:43now. But I, I would imagine they
- 1:46could both agree that that was the case.
- 1:49And yeah, it just brought up a lot of why don't I get to have
- 1:54all this fun that other people are and really be able to
- 1:58connect. And I just didn't get that.
- 2:01And nowadays I go to Australia for Christmas.
- 2:05So I mean, last year was my first time going.
- 2:07I am recording this ahead of time, but presumably I will be
- 2:10in Australia when this airs. And I have to say, last year
- 2:13Christmas was a lot of fun. I got pretty drunk so I had a
- 2:16great time. I can't speak for everyone else,
- 2:19but I had a great time. No, I'm just kidding.
- 2:23I actually don't even think I did.
- 2:24Oh no, I didn't. We did have drinks and we, I
- 2:28mean, it's fucking summer in Australia for Christmas.
- 2:31So we were outside and did stuff and then after the festivities
- 2:34died down, Ozzy and I walked to the local middle school or
- 2:40something and shot hoops at their basketball hoops.
- 2:42And it was really fun. I had a really good time.
- 2:45I'm excited for this year. I don't know, we'll see, we'll
- 2:48see. It's it's weird doing this time
- 2:49travelling thing of pre recording things.
- 2:52Anyway, out of respect for you and your time, I will keep this
- 2:58episode short and it's going to be kind of a fun Christmas
- 3:03episode. Although potentially I didn't
- 3:05even connect this until right this second.
- 3:07This could be a little sacrilegious.
- 3:09I, I know that a lot of Christians are not super
- 3:13comfortable with new age spirituality stuff.
- 3:17So I really hope this is an offensive, but I don't think it
- 3:20is because I actually, I don't think I'm going to say anything
- 3:22that is outside of the lines of any organized religion, quite
- 3:26frankly. Anyway, so the other day, a
- 3:30couple days ago, I went to the stationary store, which also is
- 3:35a crazy sentence. I went to the stationary store.
- 3:39I guess we just live in a time where there are fewer stores
- 3:42that just sell one specific type of thing.
- 3:46You know, I think that in New York we have a lot more stores
- 3:49like that. But it's a very kind of vintage
- 3:51concept. It reminds me of being a kid in
- 3:55Germany. We wouldn't go to a supermarket.
- 3:58We went to the halal butcher to get meat, we went to the bakery
- 4:03to get bread, we went to the supermarket for everything else.
- 4:08OK, so stupid story, but you know, our parents generation
- 4:12even more so. And nowadays I feel like, by the
- 4:19way, this is like not at all, really.
- 4:21I love how I said, oh, I'm going to have so much respect for your
- 4:23time and I'll keep the episode short.
- 4:25Now I'm just talking about supermarkets for for really no
- 4:27apparent reason. Like there's truly no reason why
- 4:30this is happening. So but I'm but I'm continuing.
- 4:34I'm not going to stop. So what was I going to say?
- 4:37Yeah. I feel like historically there
- 4:38were more specialization in stores than there are there is
- 4:43nowadays. People, you know, tend to buy
- 4:47just kind of go to 1 store for a bunch of shit.
- 4:49I mean, look at Target. Oh my God.
- 4:52Speaking of Target, So when I was in Mexico City, we we were
- 4:58there for two weeks. The first week Ozzy and I were
- 5:01free and traveling and doing our own thing and we stayed in a
- 5:03really cool part of town. And then the second week he was
- 5:06working down there, so we had to go to the hotel that his work
- 5:10booked, which the hotel was fine, but it was right kind of
- 5:15outside of town, which ended up actually being fine.
- 5:18Like it really wasn't a huge issue.
- 5:21I would walk into town and it would take me about an hour to
- 5:25get to Poplanco. So that's where I ended up
- 5:28hanging out. That area was where I ended up
- 5:31hanging out a lot for. So I mean, it was really just a
- 5:34couple of miles or so from Poblanco.
- 5:37Was it far or anything? And I could have taken a cab and
- 5:39it would have been a lot faster. But you know, a bitch likes to
- 5:41walk anyway. So when we checked into that
- 5:46hotel, we were running into some of his coworkers and stuff and
- 5:49one of them said the hotel is inside of a mall.
- 5:53And in the basement of this mall is a supermarket.
- 5:56But it is unlike any supermarket you have ever seen before, I can
- 6:00guarantee it. And we were like, OK, that's
- 6:02interesting. So the next I go to the
- 6:05supermarket to see if they happen to have fresh coconuts,
- 6:08which they did. So I'm, I'm so happy I grabbed
- 6:12my fresh coconuts. And then I'm walking and, you
- 6:15know, there is just a wide array of produce as supermarkets have.
- 6:19And then I get to a bakery section, a very robust bakery
- 6:22section. There's fresh breads, there's
- 6:24pastries, there's cakes, there's cupcakes, there's cookies,
- 6:28there's, I mean, any kind of fucking baked good that you can
- 6:31imagine. So I'm like, OK, amazing,
- 6:32amazing. And then I get to the butcher,
- 6:35you know, deli meats, whatever meats, meats, I don't know, I
- 6:38didn't pay that much attention because your girl doesn't eat
- 6:40meat. And then we get to the dairy
- 6:42section. Cheeses galore, crackers.
- 6:45I mean, it was like stepping inside of a cheese shop.
- 6:47OK, I'm going to stop walking you through kind of the basics
- 6:51of a grocery store because you're familiar with that
- 6:53concept already. Let me get to the next part.
- 6:56So there's a beauty section, very intense beauty section.
- 7:01I got some of those Nivea chopsticks that my sister-in-law
- 7:04said she loves. Not a fan, not for me.
- 7:07I don't like the texture. Not important.
- 7:10Then I come across a baby section, a women's clothing
- 7:15section, A men's clothing section, socks, shoes,
- 7:19accessories, bags. I'm like, OK, this is it's kind
- 7:23of like a Target, you know, Target, you know, sometimes has
- 7:25groceries. Now this, I would say, had far
- 7:27more groceries than any Target I've ever seen in my life, but
- 7:31still. And then there's this type of
- 7:33stuff. Cool.
- 7:33And then we're, you know, in the home decor, we're in the kitchen
- 7:37appliances, we're in the you guys, this fucking store.
- 7:42I cannot think, I actually cannot think of a single thing
- 7:46that exists on the face of the planet that the store did not
- 7:49sell down to car tires. One day there were fucking
- 7:54motorcycles. And there I was like, what is
- 7:57happening in here? This is, I mean, it's truly,
- 8:00truly a one stop shop. Anyway, so back to New York
- 8:03City, NY City, there are still a lot more specialized stores.
- 8:07Like there are stores and tire stores, more than one that I can
- 8:10think of that only sell hats, literally hats and that is it.
- 8:14There is a store that only sells white T-shirts.
- 8:17There are there's a stationary store.
- 8:20There's a store that only sells pens.
- 8:23There's a store that only sells kimonos.
- 8:26There is a store, this one's nuts, that only sells
- 8:31lampshades, only the shades, not even the fucking lamp.
- 8:36You can't even. And then there's a separate
- 8:38store that only sells light bulbs and you could go to two
- 8:41separate stores and still not have a fucking working lamp.
- 8:44I mean, how nuts is that OK Anyway, so I go to the
- 8:46stationary store for, you know, my stationary needs.
- 8:49Now, I have never bought stationary before.
- 8:52I've got to craft supply stores before I've, you know, I've
- 8:56bought, I guess, like card stock before.
- 8:59I, I mean, I, it turns out I wasn't even fully clear on what
- 9:02the word stationary because I walked in and I asked someone, I
- 9:05said, hi, I'm looking for some stationary.
- 9:07And she said, great, are you looking for this or this or
- 9:11washi tape or this? And I said, what the fuck are
- 9:14you talking about? Isn't washi tape just like that
- 9:17pretty Japanese tape? And she's like, yeah.
- 9:19And I was like, what? And she goes, well, stationary
- 9:22is anything that would basically go on your desk.
- 9:27And I was like, really? I thought it meant paper, you
- 9:30know, Anyway, I just wanted to have something and then I had to
- 9:34explain what I wanted. I said, you know, I want some.
- 9:36I need to send a thank you note to someone.
- 9:39But then I figured rather than getting one card, I should just
- 9:42have a bunch at home that I can then the next time I need to
- 9:47send a handwritten thank you note, which, by the way, how
- 9:49she, how elegant, how classy? I mean, let's all take a moment
- 9:53as she is. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy,
- 9:55basically. By the way, I still haven't
- 9:59written the note. This was days ago.
- 10:01I still haven't written the note.
- 10:03I should just have it at home. It'll be very chic and elegant.
- 10:07So this other woman taps in. She's like, listen, this girl's
- 10:10a moron, I'll help her. You go to other things.
- 10:13This much older lady, very cool. And so she's showing me all the
- 10:18different options, different types of paper, texture, color,
- 10:22shades. I mean, as someone who likes
- 10:25details sometimes, not always, I really enjoy the process.
- 10:29And then I had another question and when I tell you, I'll tell
- 10:34you what my question was. My question was, am I supposed
- 10:38to get my initials or something engraved on this?
- 10:42Like, is that how stationary works?
- 10:44Which honestly, I think maybe I should order customized
- 10:48stationary like that. That's actually really chic idea
- 10:50now that I think about it anyway.
- 10:52And I really didn't know like I was like, is there supposed to
- 10:56be like a letterhead? Is it not supposed to be?
- 10:58Like, I literally didn't know, but I was so kind of flustered
- 11:02and I felt so have you ever been somewhere and you don't know the
- 11:09norms of the place that you are? And so you feel really
- 11:13intimidated? Like, for example, I think this
- 11:15is a very relatable situation. Maybe the first time you went to
- 11:20a nice restaurant and ordered a bottle of wine.
- 11:22And you know how when you order a bottle of wine, they do the
- 11:25whole song and dance where it's like they'll show you do the
- 11:28label 1st and then you have to nod and then they pour you a
- 11:32tiny little sip and you taste it and then you say yes and then
- 11:36they pour for everyone else. You know, you know what I'm
- 11:38talking about. It's it's a little dance, right?
- 11:41And if you don't know what you're doing and someone comes
- 11:44and hands you a bottle and like shows you the label, you'd
- 11:47probably be like, what the fuck am I supposed to do?
- 11:49Like that's so that, you know, I, I can't be the first person
- 11:52who's encountered this. Or you go to a restaurant where
- 11:55you don't really know how to pronounce anything that's on the
- 11:57menu. Or, you know, all these
- 11:59situations where it's like, you feel out of your element.
- 12:02And I think it often happens with things that in one way or
- 12:06another, relate to money, if that makes sense.
- 12:08Because what it is is we're all feeling not classy enough,
- 12:13right? I read so many etiquette books
- 12:15when I was in my early 20s because I just wanted to be able
- 12:18to hang out with chic, elegant people and not feel like a
- 12:21dumbass. I mean, literally, I was reading
- 12:23books to pretend that I knew what I was doing rather than
- 12:27just being like, yeah, I've, I know what the fuck's going on
- 12:29here, Someone teach me. Which is totally fine.
- 12:31People would teach you anyway. So I just felt really
- 12:36overwhelmed in that stationary store for a second.
- 12:38And I didn't know how to ask about the monogram or the
- 12:42personalization. I just, I felt really weird.
- 12:46And so I was like, I have a question, but it's going to be a
- 12:48stupid question. I don't even know how to word
- 12:50the question. I was kind of squirming.
- 12:52And this lady who was helping me goes much older lady.
- 12:56I can't overemphasize how much older this lady was an old, I
- 12:59think grandma was working at the store.
- 13:02OK, she just turns to me goes, oh, who gives a fuck, Just ask
- 13:06the question. And it was this moment of I, I
- 13:10knew exactly what she meant, which was, Oh my God, my nail
- 13:14broke even more because things are not going well in the nail
- 13:20department for me anyway. So it was this moment where I
- 13:24was like, oh, like, it's fine, it's fine.
- 13:29It was exactly what I needed to hear for me to stop taking
- 13:33myself so seriously. Anyway, so then a couple days
- 13:37later I go to get my face threaded, which if you don't
- 13:39know what that is, it's and I say this because there is a
- 13:42beauty treatment called threading.
- 13:44This isn't that. This is a hair removal thing
- 13:47where they basically take a piece of string and pull to yank
- 13:51the hairs out. So it's not putting facial
- 13:54threads in your face, which I hear, don't, I hear they really,
- 13:58really hurt. And I hear that after a while
- 14:01they look really funky or something.
- 14:03So I don't know. Anyway, but then Lisa Barlow
- 14:05said that she has them and I think hers look really good.
- 14:08It's just something I want to kind of keep my eye on.
- 14:10Anyway, so I go to get my face threaded and we talked about a
- 14:16few things where every time she was saying exactly, exactly what
- 14:21I needed to hear. It was so crazy.
- 14:23I was saying how someone in my life is really Moody and it's
- 14:28annoying me. And she goes, who cares?
- 14:31That's that's literally not your problem.
- 14:33Why are you letting someone else's energy affect you?
- 14:36And I was like, yeah, that's good advice.
- 14:37And then she, her dog had just passed away and I was like, Oh
- 14:43my God, I'm so sorry. Like I live in constant,
- 14:45constant, I mean, every moment of every day is fear about my
- 14:49dog dying. And she's like, why?
- 14:51That's like crazy. And she said all this stuff.
- 14:54I can't explain it without launching into a four hour long
- 14:59story of everything that's been going on with me over the past
- 15:02month. And you know, so I'm not going
- 15:04to do that. But basically it's like she was
- 15:07saying things that were hitting on such a deep level of things
- 15:12that I'd never even conveyed. At some point, I was just
- 15:16thinking about something in my head, a question that I had, and
- 15:19she said something that was like a perfect answer to my question.
- 15:23And it was one of those moments where I was like, this feels not
- 15:27to sound too woo woo, but we're going to do kind of a woo woo
- 15:30episode. This feels like God, the
- 15:34universe, whatever word you're comfortable with is speaking to
- 15:39me through this person. It's like I'm getting these
- 15:42answers to these questions that I have that I don't think these
- 15:46people even know that I have these questions.
- 15:48Like I don't think they're even aware that they're almost like
- 15:51channeling messages for me. Like it's kind of wild.
- 15:55And that's happened a bunch of times before in my life.
- 15:57I mean, I have so many like kind of crazy woo woo stories I could
- 16:01tell maybe on a different episode because I did promise to
- 16:04keep this one short. But I did kind of want to talk
- 16:09about signs and messages and three things that I do regularly
- 16:17that are, you know, some people might consider these to be woo
- 16:20woo. I actually don't think it any of
- 16:23the three are that woo woo, to be completely honest.
- 16:26Like I think there's far more woo woo stuff out there.
- 16:28Nevertheless, it's a little bit woo woo.
- 16:30So I'm going to share what they are in case you want to
- 16:33implement them in your life. Number one is asking the
- 16:36universe for signs. So I've done this a bunch of
- 16:41times this year, especially when I want to make a big decision,
- 16:44I'll ask the universe to show me a very specific sign.
- 16:49So there was something I was looking into doing a few months
- 16:54ago and I remember I asked the universe if if this is the right
- 16:58move for me, if this is the right decision for me.
- 17:01Show me butterflies. And that day when I was walking
- 17:05to solid core, I walked by this store display that had just
- 17:10thousands and thousands of butterflies hanging in the
- 17:13window display. It was so crazy.
- 17:15They just changed the window display and it didn't even stay
- 17:19up that long, but it was there long enough for me to see all
- 17:22the fucking butterflies. And then I counted.
- 17:24And that day, aside from that one incident, which there were
- 17:27so many butterflies, I think I saw like 20 butterflies, not
- 17:30real butterflies because it wasn't really like butterfly
- 17:32season, but and you know, we're in New York City, but just
- 17:36pictures of butterflies, images of butterflies.
- 17:38I realized the system on the door of my building has a
- 17:42fucking butterfly on it. You know, like it was just
- 17:44everywhere was butterflies. I do this all the time and I
- 17:48find that and sometimes I don't see the thing.
- 17:52I mean, I remember a few months ago there was some, you know,
- 17:56self help, you know, these tick tockers and influencers who
- 18:01create digital courses and stuff like that.
- 18:03And I buy so many of them. I do so much of that type of
- 18:06shit. There was one that I was kind of
- 18:08curious about doing and I asked the universe.
- 18:11I said, oh, show me. I don't know, Bear or something
- 18:15before I got home, if I meant to do this, and I kept my eyes
- 18:19fucking peeled and nothing, nothing like that.
- 18:23It's so fucking nuts. So yeah, I do this all the time.
- 18:27I think it's a really fun way to just kind of play with the
- 18:30universe. And honestly, if nothing else,
- 18:32it'll make you a lot more present to your surroundings.
- 18:36So that's a win right there. The second thing that I do
- 18:42that's kind of along the same lines is I at night.
- 18:46So I do my journaling in the morning.
- 18:48I do morning pages like from the artists way where you write 3
- 18:51pages stream of consciousness like without ever stopping but
- 18:57it at night. I don't do journaling
- 18:59journaling. All I do is I will write in my
- 19:02journal a question that I want an answer to or something that I
- 19:06want help with or inspiration. For me, it's honestly often
- 19:10creativity stuff. So I'll ask for inspiration for
- 19:13something to make or something to post the next day or a
- 19:17specific way to unpack something.
- 19:19Sometimes it's I just want answers.
- 19:22There's something I can't quite work out in my head or I just
- 19:25want guidance or whatever. And you know, I learned about
- 19:29this and people say like, oh, you got the answer in your
- 19:32dreams. I rarely get the answer in my
- 19:35dreams. Sometimes I get it just I have
- 19:39gotten it in the middle of the night a lot, like I've just
- 19:41woken up and written it down. And sometimes I get it the next
- 19:47morning when I do my morning pages just as I'm writing.
- 19:51The answer poof is just right there.
- 19:53A lot of the cooler recipes that I've had in the past few months
- 19:58have actually the ideas have come to me because from asking
- 20:02for it like that. And a lot of the best decisions
- 20:05I've made the past few months have been because of that.
- 20:08And that brings me to the last thing.
- 20:11That I want to talk about and this is, I think the best kind
- 20:16of woo woo practice that you can have, so long as you don't let
- 20:22it go too far. And I'll explain what that mean,
- 20:25what I mean by that. And that is I like to think of
- 20:30everything as like nothing is a coincidence.
- 20:33Everything is very intentional and meaningful.
- 20:37So the way I think of it is if my life were a movie, like a
- 20:41really good movie, not like a shittily made movie, but a
- 20:44really I'm trying to think of who is very intentional with his
- 20:50movie making. I don't know.
- 20:53I I actually don't know enough about movies to be able to make
- 20:56this analogy. But think of, you know, one of
- 20:59those movies where there's extreme attention to detail,
- 21:02where every little thing is well thought out.
- 21:05Even the color of the shirt of the background actor is
- 21:10intentional. There is nothing in that movie
- 21:13that's just there by chance or by coincidence.
- 21:16Everything contributes to the plot in some way.
- 21:19And I like to think of my life in the same way and think of
- 21:23like there are no coincidences. If something is happening, it's
- 21:26happening for reason and I'm meant to learn and receive some
- 21:32kind of message from it, learn something from it.
- 21:34And this approach I think is really cool because a, it really
- 21:38makes you feel like the main character, like it really gives
- 21:41you that main character energy, which I think most of us could
- 21:44stand to embody a bit more. And it just makes you a lot more
- 21:49intentional. It makes you a lot more present
- 21:51and it also helps you find meaning in things, especially
- 21:55bad or difficult things. Because whether it's true or not
- 22:00I actually think is really irrelevant.
- 22:03Like I, I think that most likely they're probably are just
- 22:07coincidences. I don't know.
- 22:08I actually would love to talk to, I'd like to hear different
- 22:11opinions on this. Do you think there are
- 22:12coincidences? I don't fucking know.
- 22:14But whether there are or not I actually think is so irrelevant.
- 22:18I think the deeper point is if you just take this approach, you
- 22:22will learn things from everything that happens.
- 22:26And that kind of feeds into the first thing I was saying, like
- 22:29the story about the lady at the stationary store and Hippo who
- 22:33does my eyebrows. Like if I just was kind of going
- 22:40through life in a more disconnected way, I wouldn't
- 22:43even thought twice about the way the things that they were
- 22:46saying. But because I already have this
- 22:48mindset of everything is intentional, everything is here
- 22:52for a reason, and I meant to learn something from everything.
- 22:55I was able to find such profound meaning and inner peace from the
- 22:59things that they were saying. Whereas if this were a few years
- 23:02ago, it would have just, I wouldn't even noticed, like I
- 23:05truly would not have even noticed what they said because
- 23:08it would have just been whatever everyday kind of conversation.
- 23:11But instead it ended up being this really healing, beautiful
- 23:15experience for me. And that's because I have this
- 23:17mindset of everything is intentional.
- 23:20Everything is here for a reason. I'm in the midst of the best
- 23:24fucking movie ever. Like this sick ass, really
- 23:28well-intentioned, high production value movie.
- 23:32And we're going to see where it fucking goes.
- 23:34And that also, I think think really helps with any time
- 23:37you're going through something bad because it's like, yeah, the
- 23:39main character goes through bad things.
- 23:41Like, it would be a really boring movie if from the
- 23:45beginning to the end, the main character was just, like, happy
- 23:47and thriving. Like, no, we need some shit to
- 23:50go down for the plot, you know, do it for the fucking plot.
- 23:56OK, there you have it. That is that if you do embody
- 24:02any of these principles, do let me know.
- 24:04And I actually, I really do want to hear what you think about
- 24:07coincidences 'cause I think that could be a really interesting
- 24:09conversation, but we're not going to have that conversation
- 24:12today. I will let you go back to your
- 24:15family or whatever it is that you're doing for the holidays
- 24:18and we will chat next week for a very revealing conversation.
- 24:32OK, that's all I can say. That's all I can tease.
- 24:34OK, love you. Bye.
