- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to the last episode of She's on
- 0:26Speaker 2: the Money, the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Now, that sounded pretty dramatic.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I didn't mean the last ever episode of She's on
- 0:34Speaker 2: the Money. I meant the last episode for the year
- 0:37Speaker 2: of twenty twenty one, not ever. But you know, drama
- 0:41Speaker 2: is my thing. We'll keep it there. I'm not going
- 0:43Speaker 2: to re record that. This is our Friday Drinks episode
- 0:47Speaker 2: where we get to celebrate the money wins from our
- 0:49Speaker 2: She's on the Money community. There are so many great
- 0:52Speaker 2: money wins and confessions she had each and every single
- 0:54Speaker 2: week in our Facebook group, and Jess, George and I
- 0:57Speaker 2: spend a very big part of our week having a
- 0:59Speaker 2: chat about all that you guys achieved this week. We
- 1:02Speaker 2: are celebrating you. We are celebrating the end of the year,
- 1:05Speaker 2: and we are so excited to dive right in. But
- 1:08Speaker 2: the first cab off the rank, Miss jesse Garichi, what
- 1:12Speaker 2: happened in Money Diaries this week?
- 1:14Speaker 4: So this week's diarist chatted to us about I guess
- 1:18Speaker 4: her youth. She grew up in a low income household.
- 1:21Speaker 4: There was a history of abuse there, which was obviously
- 1:23Speaker 4: really tough, and her mum had a history of mental illness,
- 1:26Speaker 4: so there were a lot of factors in her kind
- 1:28Speaker 4: of early childhood that really shaped her and her habits
- 1:32Speaker 4: as an adult.
- 1:34Speaker 5: She's had a bit of a.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Rough go over after the last few years, she split
- 1:37Speaker 4: with her partner who she had bought land with. It
- 1:39Speaker 4: was a whole thing, and it was just a really
- 1:42Speaker 4: insightful discussion around I guess how your childhood and how
- 1:47Speaker 4: your money story really can shape your direction as an adult.
- 1:51Speaker 4: She's worked incredibly hard to put herself in a different
- 1:55Speaker 4: position and change that story, which was really inspiring. But
- 1:59Speaker 4: I guess we don't always delve too deeply into childhood obviously,
- 2:03Speaker 4: we just chat about whatever the diarist is comfortable sharing,
- 2:06Speaker 4: and wherever that journey takes us, no two are the same.
- 2:09Speaker 4: So it was just really interesting, and I'm so grateful
- 2:11Speaker 4: that she was happy to share, you know, such a
- 2:14Speaker 4: personal story with us.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I'm always, honestly so grateful for the stories that the
- 2:19Speaker 2: money diarists are willing to share with us. So next
- 2:22Speaker 2: year we are obviously going to be sharing so so
- 2:24Speaker 2: many more money diaries. So if you've ever thought, oh,
- 2:27Speaker 2: my gosh, I want to be on it, but I'm
- 2:29Speaker 2: really nervous. Please don't be. We definitely make sure that
- 2:32Speaker 2: every piece of information that you give to us is
- 2:34Speaker 2: de identified and that you are all safe and sound,
- 2:37Speaker 2: and I would love to think that we are a
- 2:39Speaker 2: very safe space to share that story and we love
- 2:42Speaker 2: it like we literally adore having chats with you guys.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So if you've ever wondered I should be a money diarist,
- 2:47Speaker 2: now's the time to slide into our DMS as we
- 2:49Speaker 2: start booking up money diaries for twenty twenty two.
- 2:52Speaker 4: And when we say slide into our DMS, we mean
- 2:55Speaker 4: fill out the form on our website because really that's
- 2:57Speaker 4: what we mean.
- 2:58Speaker 2: That's what we mean because too many times have we
- 3:01Speaker 2: lost good money stories in our dms because, as you
- 3:04Speaker 2: guys can imagine, people reply to our stories and they
- 3:07Speaker 2: just get oh messy. So if you want to be
- 3:09Speaker 2: on the show, please jump on the website, feel out
- 3:12Speaker 2: the form, and we will get back to you.
- 3:14Speaker 3: George getting back to you though, Hello, my friend. What
- 3:18Speaker 3: happened on Wednesday on the show?
- 3:20Speaker 5: Hello? Team? So Wednesday was our final Wednesday Deep Dive
- 3:25Speaker 5: episode of.
- 3:25Speaker 3: The year, which was a dream was exciting.
- 3:29Speaker 5: It was fun that we spoke about how to improve
- 3:32Speaker 5: our credit scores and also what credit scores are.
- 3:35Speaker 3: That was very exciting.
- 3:37Speaker 5: I mean, it doesn't sound that exciting, but it was
- 3:39Speaker 5: really interesting, and I feel like the main takeaway from
- 3:43Speaker 5: the episode was that credit scores will. Improving credit scores
- 3:47Speaker 5: rather takes a really long time. There's no like not
- 3:51Speaker 5: get rich quick scheme, but there's no get fixed quick,
- 3:55Speaker 5: get fixed. Yes, well done, well done, that was well said.
- 3:58Speaker 5: There's a few kind of scamming like companies out there
- 4:01Speaker 5: that we should all be really mindful of.
- 4:03Speaker 2: So yeah, and I know that we've done it. If
- 4:05Speaker 2: you didn't listen to it, I get it if you
- 4:07Speaker 2: were like, look, Via, I thought you already did an
- 4:09Speaker 2: episode on this before. But yes, it is different. Content
- 4:12Speaker 2: can promise you that. But the reason we thought it
- 4:15Speaker 2: was so important to talk about credit scores again is
- 4:18Speaker 2: because there's just so much misinformation flying around the Internet
- 4:21Speaker 2: at this point in time about credit scores, and I'm
- 4:24Speaker 2: seeing in our communities so many people talk about very
- 4:26Speaker 2: American ways of approaching credit scores, and I just don't
- 4:30Speaker 2: want that to be our narrative, like our money system.
- 4:34Speaker 2: As much as we both function in dollars is not
- 4:37Speaker 2: the same as the US system, and the same requirements
- 4:40Speaker 2: that exist to have a good credit score in the
- 4:42Speaker 2: US are not the requirements to have a good credit
- 4:45Speaker 2: score in Australia. So I think we really need to
- 4:47Speaker 2: be privy to what the Australian expectations are so that
- 4:51Speaker 2: we can do the best thing by us. But summary
- 4:53Speaker 2: from all of that is you do not need a
- 4:55Speaker 2: credit card to have a good credit score here in Australia.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I feel like the really good thing about episode, as
- 5:00Speaker 4: well as compared to the original Credit Score app, is
- 5:04Speaker 4: that this one had some really great actionable steps, whereas
- 5:07Speaker 4: the first EP was more about what is a credit screen?
- 5:10Speaker 5: Why might you need it?
- 5:12Speaker 4: So if you're wanting to improve your score, it's a
- 5:14Speaker 4: question we see all the time on Facebook.
- 5:17Speaker 5: It's the few.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I loved it, but I also love talking about money.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I love talking about credit scores, I love talking about
- 5:23Speaker 2: fixing our finances, and it was a pretty good EPP
- 5:26Speaker 2: in my opinion.
- 5:26Speaker 3: But I'm going to just call it out here and.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Say that I'm quite biased and always have been about
- 5:31Speaker 2: the shees on the Money episode. So I'll let you
- 5:32Speaker 2: guys make your own decisions, and we will move on
- 5:35Speaker 2: to arguably my favorite and the most fun part of
- 5:39Speaker 2: this show, and that is when Georgia tells us her
- 5:42Speaker 2: favorite money wins and confessions from the She's on the
- 5:45Speaker 2: Money community from this week.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Georgia, throw them at us. What have you got this week?
- 5:50Speaker 5: Ladies? We have some absolute belters coming in your ways,
- 5:53Speaker 5: So strap yourselves here and it's going to be a good time.
- 5:56Speaker 3: But yeah, it's wrapped in and ready. Jess, have you
- 5:58Speaker 3: got your buckle on?
- 6:00Speaker 5: Buckle and helmet? I'm excited.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 6:03Speaker 5: So our first win is from Samantha Jones. I know
- 6:06Speaker 5: we don't usually do surnames, but I couldn't help myself
- 6:08Speaker 5: because of she's.
- 6:09Speaker 3: From Sex in the City. Well sorry, Sex and the City.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Who am I?
- 6:14Speaker 4: So?
- 6:15Speaker 5: Samantha bought a handbag for fifty dollars a couple of
- 6:18Speaker 5: months ago. It'sj of her, isn't it? Precisely? And guess
- 6:23Speaker 5: what happened?
- 6:24Speaker 2: She found us bucks in it.
- 6:25Speaker 5: She sold it recently for four hundred dollars. What snaughty girl. Hell,
- 6:32Speaker 5: I'd love to know.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I want to see the bag. I'm very excited about this.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Well done, Samantha what a genius.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I thought she was going to tell us that cute
- 6:40Speaker 2: story where you know, you go to the op shop,
- 6:42Speaker 2: you buy a bag, and then you find the money
- 6:43Speaker 2: in the bag, Like that would also be a good
- 6:45Speaker 2: money win. I wonder how many times that happens to people,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and whether we should start a business purchasing secondhand handbags
- 6:52Speaker 2: to find the cash inside. And I imagine it would
- 6:56Speaker 2: be very profitable. Yep, maybe I'll just stick in my
- 6:58Speaker 2: own financial advice lane.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Maybe our next win here, guys, is from Riley. So
- 7:05Speaker 5: sadly she was scammed out of four hundred and ten
- 7:08Speaker 5: dollars three years ago after making a purchase on Facebook marketplace.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Maybe she bought the handbag, am I right?
- 7:15Speaker 3: So the ten was the shipping.
- 7:19Speaker 5: So she made the purchase on Facebook marketplace and paid
- 7:22Speaker 5: via a bank transfer, which can be a little risky.
- 7:26Speaker 5: She contacted her bank, their bank, and the police to
- 7:29Speaker 5: try and recover the funds, but in the end she
- 7:32Speaker 5: chopped it up to an expensive but valuable lesson. Fast
- 7:36Speaker 5: forward to last Thursday, she got an email from her
- 7:40Speaker 5: bank saying they'd recovered the full amount. Wow, that's your forever.
- 7:46Speaker 5: It did take a while, but it paid off. In
- 7:48Speaker 5: the end, she's got the four ten back in her
- 7:49Speaker 5: account and it's a Christmas miracle.
- 7:51Speaker 2: She's written, love Squeen, and do you know what Those
- 7:55Speaker 2: money wins are the sweetest ones because you had written
- 7:57Speaker 2: that off like you didn't expect that that was to
- 8:00Speaker 2: be a win. It wasn't like, look, I've been waiting
- 8:02Speaker 2: ages and I finally got that four hundred bucks. She'd
- 8:04Speaker 2: written that off, thought it didn't exist, and then them
- 8:07Speaker 2: it popped back into her life.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Thank you, Santa Claus Renee is our next win. So
- 8:14Speaker 5: she received a letter from Vic Rhoades offering her a
- 8:17Speaker 5: free three year license as she's coming off her peas
- 8:21Speaker 5: because she hasn't had any fines or lost any points.
- 8:24Speaker 5: She gets it for free on.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Relatable content that never happened to me.
- 8:28Speaker 4: It's also extremely expensive, so that is a huge win.
- 8:32Speaker 3: That's actually a thing.
- 8:33Speaker 2: If you don't get any points or you don't get
- 8:37Speaker 2: any fines or lose anything during your beginning of your
- 8:41Speaker 2: car driving journey, they.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Do offer that to you.
- 8:44Speaker 2: But sadly that was never extended to me because I'm.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Not responsible enough naughty.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I don't hear you guys being like, yeah, okay, I
- 8:52Speaker 2: got that offered to me, Jess George, I would like.
- 8:56Speaker 5: To please remember. Our next win here is from Anna.
- 9:01Speaker 5: So she went clothes shopping for the first time in
- 9:03Speaker 5: over twelve months in Melbourne over the weekend she lives regionally.
- 9:08Speaker 5: She went from shop to shop, tried on all of
- 9:10Speaker 5: the clothes and then worked out what she wanted to buy.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Then she checks for them on shopback, went home, let
- 9:16Speaker 5: herself think on what she actually wanted, culled out what
- 9:20Speaker 5: she didn't need, and then purchased it all through shop back.
- 9:23Speaker 3: You are as she's on the money dream Triald.
- 9:26Speaker 2: You are the poster child for what we want everybody
- 9:29Speaker 2: to do in twenty twenty two. Very impressed, Diana. Yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 2: I don't have that level of self control. If I'm
- 9:36Speaker 2: going out shopping and I've made the decision to purchase
- 9:39Speaker 2: something and I've headed out and made the trip, especially
- 9:41Speaker 2: if I was regional, I don't have the self control
- 9:44Speaker 2: to then not purchase it.
- 9:45Speaker 5: In the moment, all the more impressive.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Nope, Nope, that's why it's so impressive.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I love her.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Our next win here is from Crystal. Well, it's not
- 9:52Speaker 5: a win yet, but she hopes it will be She's
- 9:54Speaker 5: turned her book addiction into a side hustle and is
- 9:57Speaker 5: selling her pre loved books online.
- 10:00Speaker 1: God, she loves that that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: She's on the money book. Oh U can she got
- 10:04Speaker 2: a good return on her investment? No?
- 10:08Speaker 3: Okay, that's fallings, George. What else have you got to
- 10:15Speaker 3: share with the community this week?
- 10:17Speaker 5: So our final win slash lost here Ladies comes from Natasha.
- 10:22Speaker 5: So she decided she did not want to go into
- 10:24Speaker 5: the new year with any debt, so she dipped into
- 10:27Speaker 5: her emergency fund to pay off her credit card. Now
- 10:30Speaker 5: she can focus on building her savings for the new
- 10:32Speaker 5: year ahead.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yes, Kawen, it's a good idea.
- 10:35Speaker 5: V I wanted to know what you thought, Gina.
- 10:37Speaker 4: What.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I don't believe that you have savings if you have debt.
- 10:41Speaker 2: If you have savings sitting in your account and then
- 10:44Speaker 2: you also have a debt that you are paying interest on,
- 10:46Speaker 2: you really need to be prioritizing getting rid of that debt.
- 10:50Speaker 2: In saying that, I do also verminently believe that you
- 10:54Speaker 2: need an emergency fund while you're in debt as well.
- 10:57Speaker 2: So I wouldn't say if you've got an emergency fund that, no,
- 11:01Speaker 2: we have our base. But if you have additional wiggle
- 11:03Speaker 2: room and your emergency fund, or you've got some savings
- 11:06Speaker 2: to get rid of debt. I would absolutely be prioritizing that,
- 11:10Speaker 2: because the rule is if you have debt, you do
- 11:12Speaker 2: not have savings, and at the end of the day,
- 11:15Speaker 2: you're just putting off and actually costing yourself more over
- 11:19Speaker 2: the long term, because any debt is going to be
- 11:21Speaker 2: accruing interest and those savings are sitting there not actually
- 11:25Speaker 2: working for you. So make them work for you. Get
- 11:27Speaker 2: rid of your debt.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I completely get it if you like.
- 11:30Speaker 2: But v I've saved up so hard and that money
- 11:33Speaker 2: sitting there, and I don't want to pay it off
- 11:35Speaker 2: because then I'll have nothing. No, No, that's not how
- 11:37Speaker 2: it works. You are already behind. If that is the
- 11:40Speaker 2: mindset we are approaching it with, find your clean slate
- 11:43Speaker 2: if you've got the potential to do that. But again,
- 11:46Speaker 2: always make sure you do have that emergency fund. I'm
- 11:48Speaker 2: not saying s vendor emergency funds on getting out of debt,
- 11:51Speaker 2: because I do think that regardless of where we are,
- 11:54Speaker 2: we need to always have access to cash to get
- 11:57Speaker 2: out of any circumstance situation, money related anything, and that's
- 12:03Speaker 2: where your emergency fund comes into play.
- 12:05Speaker 5: And Natasha said that she only dipped into her emergency funds,
- 12:08Speaker 5: she didn't drain it all. So that's a great outcome,
- 12:11Speaker 5: then you.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Outcome love that for you and starting the new year
- 12:15Speaker 2: with no debt, what a better way?
- 12:18Speaker 3: How exciting?
- 12:19Speaker 4: Alridy, So I thought that we could have a little chart.
- 12:22Speaker 4: It's the last episode of the year. The vibes are high,
- 12:25Speaker 4: we're just kind of reflecting a little bit. And we've
- 12:27Speaker 4: been doing this as a team anyway, chatting about the
- 12:30Speaker 4: year that was. It's been a hectic one to say
- 12:33Speaker 4: the very least. Oh white what Yes, that is her
- 12:36Speaker 4: garbage fire, But there has been a lot of really fun,
- 12:41Speaker 4: good things that have come out of our community specifically
- 12:44Speaker 4: as well. So I thought let's be a little self
- 12:46Speaker 4: indulge it and take a moment just to celebrate us
- 12:49Speaker 4: and everything that we've done.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Oh, you're so cute, and just to.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Say thank you as well, because we've had an epic
- 12:55Speaker 4: year and we could not have done it without the community,
- 12:59Speaker 4: without the peace listening, the reason we get to do
- 13:02Speaker 4: what we do and help people and share their stories
- 13:05Speaker 4: and touch all of these lives. Am I being incredibly
- 13:08Speaker 4: dramatic right now, I am I'm sorry, No.
- 13:10Speaker 6: You're not.
- 13:10Speaker 2: We get to do what we love every day because
- 13:13Speaker 2: you guys exist, and that is so special and so lucky.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And I don't think that we even comprehend the gravity
- 13:20Speaker 2: of that situation until we get to sit down and
- 13:22Speaker 2: be like, how cool is that? Like we've done some
- 13:25Speaker 2: really epic things. And I mean, Jess, you've officially been
- 13:28Speaker 2: with us more than a year. You joined last December,
- 13:30Speaker 2: which is so so exciting. So happy anniversary, babe, thank you.
- 13:35Speaker 5: Happy to be So that was a.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Great acquisition to the community. We have moved offices, which was.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Also really fun.
- 13:43Speaker 2: We grew and we got a bigger office and then
- 13:46Speaker 2: we promptly had to go straight back home and work
- 13:49Speaker 2: from home, which is fine, but we can tell everybody
- 13:51Speaker 2: else that we've got Q office space.
- 13:54Speaker 3: What else have we done? G We have done three
- 13:57Speaker 3: episodes a week.
- 13:59Speaker 5: And and there's been no weeks off, so three times
- 14:02Speaker 5: fifty two. That's one hundred and fifty plus some more episodes.
- 14:07Speaker 5: We have a lot of episodes. Wow.
- 14:09Speaker 2: We have pumped out the content and I'm just so
- 14:13Speaker 2: proud of our team for doing that because it's one
- 14:16Speaker 2: of those things that I remember last year sitting down
- 14:19Speaker 2: it was December and we're talking about what could we
- 14:21Speaker 2: do to enhance the She's on the Money community, enhance
- 14:25Speaker 2: the podcast, like how do we make it better? We
- 14:27Speaker 2: love money diries, we love the deep dives, we love
- 14:30Speaker 2: our banter, and that's how we've broken them into those
- 14:33Speaker 2: three episodes. And so breaking it into the three episodes
- 14:36Speaker 2: felt incredibly overwhelming. And the fact that She's on the
- 14:40Speaker 2: Money Team has not only done those three episodes each
- 14:43Speaker 2: and every single week, but we've also brought to the
- 14:46Speaker 2: table two brand new shows. We've got The Property Playbook
- 14:48Speaker 2: and The Business Bible during that time. At one stage
- 14:52Speaker 2: this year, we were doing an episode a day, every
- 14:56Speaker 2: single day of every single week for a few months there.
- 14:59Speaker 2: So Jess, George, the She's on the Money Team, you
- 15:02Speaker 2: guys have been absolutely Stella like, could not be more
- 15:07Speaker 2: proud to call you my little She's on the Money fam.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Ah.
- 15:12Speaker 4: I mean in other news, not to take a complete segue,
- 15:15Speaker 4: but I mean, I don't even know if we're going
- 15:17Speaker 4: chronologically at this point, but.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Are we going to talk about the book?
- 15:21Speaker 2: Oh? Yes, we finally got the She's on the Money
- 15:25Speaker 2: Book published and We've been talking about it.
- 15:28Speaker 5: For years, since before I went Yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Since before you worked here, I have been writing this book.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It took a good two years to get off the ground,
- 15:37Speaker 2: because it turns out writing a book is actually a
- 15:39Speaker 2: lot bigger of a project than I had anticipated. And honestly,
- 15:44Speaker 2: getting that first book in the mail was one of
- 15:46Speaker 2: the best days of my entire life. Jess I remember
- 15:50Speaker 2: followed me down the hall when we were told that
- 15:52Speaker 2: it had been delivered and I was just crying and
- 15:55Speaker 2: I was so excited.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But we got that book done, We got it published.
- 16:00Speaker 2: My Penguin roundom House family have been nothing but supportive
- 16:04Speaker 2: layer honestly, such an incredible publisher to have gone through.
- 16:08Speaker 2: But not only do we get that book up and running,
- 16:10Speaker 2: we became a best selling book in the country. Like
- 16:12Speaker 2: we were number one in Dimmicks, We were number one
- 16:14Speaker 2: on book Topia, we were number one on book Depository,
- 16:18Speaker 2: Like what who would have even seen that coming. But
- 16:21Speaker 2: that's not because of me, that's not because of the content,
- 16:24Speaker 2: And sadly it's not because of Jess or George. It's
- 16:26Speaker 2: actually because of the She's on the money community and
- 16:28Speaker 2: the support that you guys showed us through that period
- 16:31Speaker 2: of time when we launched it, you guys, were incredible,
- 16:34Speaker 2: But then also you continue to purchase it, and you know,
- 16:38Speaker 2: even through this festive period, we've seen so many people
- 16:41Speaker 2: purchasing it for their friends and their family, and oh,
- 16:43Speaker 2: my gosh, my heart like knowing that that book is
- 16:46Speaker 2: out there and the impact that it is having on
- 16:49Speaker 2: people's lives literally is the coolest thing ever.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I don't know if I can do this, but unofficially,
- 16:55Speaker 4: off the record, another book on the way.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Look, there could possibly be another book on the way.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And for those of you who've been following my social
- 17:08Speaker 2: media and going Victoria, are you ever going to stop working?
- 17:10Speaker 2: The answer is no, because I'm actually in the middle
- 17:14Speaker 2: of writing my second book, and the manuscript, guys, is
- 17:18Speaker 2: due in March, So that book is apparently who knows,
- 17:22Speaker 2: because timeframes can sometimes get pushed out. But you might
- 17:26Speaker 2: find another She's on the money book on the shelves
- 17:29Speaker 2: by September twenty twenty two, which is, Oh my gosh,
- 17:33Speaker 2: my wildest dreams are literally coming true.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Can you give us any indication beer, is it too
- 17:39Speaker 5: early to tell us a little bit about what made you? Now?
- 17:42Speaker 2: I can tell you, Oh, you can tell you. Are
- 17:43Speaker 2: you ready to sit down? It's my favorite topic, guys.
- 17:46Speaker 2: She's on the Money was written because I wanted to
- 17:49Speaker 2: give you a solid foundational understanding of your money story,
- 17:53Speaker 2: and of budgeting and cash flow, and of what investment
- 17:56Speaker 2: is and what insurance is, and what you need when
- 17:59Speaker 2: it comes to protecting yourself, and how to plan for things,
- 18:02Speaker 2: and how to actually manage money in a way that's
- 18:05Speaker 2: responsible but really reflects your lifestyle and doesn't make you
- 18:08Speaker 2: compromise everything or sacrifice the life that you want to have,
- 18:12Speaker 2: and that is so important to have as those foundational
- 18:15Speaker 2: blocks before you begin investing. So the She's on the
- 18:20Speaker 2: Money second book doesn't have a name yet because I'm
- 18:23Speaker 2: not sassy or puney in any way, shape or form.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So I've thrown it back to my publishers at Penguin
- 18:28Speaker 2: and said, can you guys have a little bit of
- 18:30Speaker 2: a brainstorm around what this book could potentially be called.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But the book is going to be on the eights
- 18:36Speaker 2: of investing so that you guys can take it to
- 18:38Speaker 2: the next level and really understand investing to the degree
- 18:44Speaker 2: that you guys are demanding at the moment. So obviously,
- 18:47Speaker 2: and She's on the money. We covered it. There was
- 18:48Speaker 2: a chapter on investing, and it introduced you to everything
- 18:52Speaker 2: that I needed you to know as a foundational level,
- 18:54Speaker 2: but this will be taking those foundations to the next
- 18:57Speaker 2: level to really understand what long term strategy is going
- 19:01Speaker 2: to look like and how that works, and what that means,
- 19:04Speaker 2: and what different products look like and how they work.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And I'm just really excited while I'm pulling this together
- 19:10Speaker 2: because this book is not just me talking about investment.
- 19:14Speaker 2: It's literally the thing that I do every day with
- 19:17Speaker 2: my clients. And I'm just like, oh, my gosh, and
- 19:19Speaker 2: we could talk about this and we really need to
- 19:21Speaker 2: talk about that, and oh, I wouldn't want to miss
- 19:23Speaker 2: out on this. So it's been an absolute joy to
- 19:25Speaker 2: be pulling together and doing the research for And that's
- 19:28Speaker 2: just it gets me so excited, and I cannot believe
- 19:31Speaker 2: that this is my job, Like.
- 19:32Speaker 3: What crazy crazy.
- 19:35Speaker 5: The other little little thing that happened this year, V
- 19:39Speaker 5: was that you were listed in Forbes's thirty Under thirty
- 19:43Speaker 5: just before you turned thirty. You just smacking their doll by.
- 19:47Speaker 3: The skin of my teeth.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Guys, I didn't even know I was gonna slide in there.
- 19:52Speaker 2: That was an absolute shock, how strange, what a fackage.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Forbes baby, Oh my gosh, incredible from me because I'm
- 20:02Speaker 4: the little content Colleen. We hit two hundred thousand members
- 20:07Speaker 4: in our Facebook group. My little brain can't even begin
- 20:12Speaker 4: to comprehend what that number looks like.
- 20:15Speaker 6: That's so many people, like that is so many people
- 20:19Speaker 6: who are excited about creating financial freedom and talking about money,
- 20:22Speaker 6: and oh my god, Like I cannot begin to tell
- 20:26Speaker 6: you how exciting that is.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Like I remember, and you guys have probably heard this
- 20:31Speaker 2: story if you've listened to a few of our podcasts,
- 20:33Speaker 2: but that She's on the Money podcast was born after
- 20:37Speaker 2: the Facebook group existed. So the Facebook group existed because
- 20:40Speaker 2: I used to run these workshops called She's on the
- 20:42Speaker 2: Money to empower people to understand finances and understand super
- 20:47Speaker 2: and investment and insurance. And I used to run these
- 20:50Speaker 2: workshops so that we could empower people. And I wanted
- 20:53Speaker 2: to take that conversation further and have more open, honest
- 20:57Speaker 2: chats about things. I was like, you know what I'll do,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'll start a Facebook group. And at the time, I
- 21:02Speaker 2: felt like I was the lamest person in the entire world.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Like I remember being like to my sister, Hey, I
- 21:08Speaker 2: just posted something in my Facebook group with four friends.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Can you like it?
- 21:12Speaker 2: My sister would like it, and I would ask my
- 21:14Speaker 2: girlfriends to do the same. I'd be like, oh, hey,
- 21:16Speaker 2: I feeling a bit nervous, but I just posted this
- 21:18Speaker 2: tip in She's on the Money. And they'd be like,
- 21:20Speaker 2: what's that And I'd be like, Oh, it's like this
- 21:21Speaker 2: Facebook group that I've started, and they'd be like, oh cool, V,
- 21:25Speaker 2: Like what are you doing? And that slowly grew, and
- 21:29Speaker 2: I remember it grew by me adding friends and family
- 21:32Speaker 2: and people that went to my workshops, and it was
- 21:34Speaker 2: very exciting. And then people started joining and I'd be like,
- 21:37Speaker 2: I don't know you, and then I'd get a message
- 21:39Speaker 2: from someone being like, oh, hey, V, I know this
- 21:42Speaker 2: is really strange. I went to one of your workshops.
- 21:44Speaker 2: But I think my sister would love your Facebook group.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Can I add her?
- 21:47Speaker 3: And be like, oh yeah. The more the merrier.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And I remember when it tipped over a thousand people,
- 21:51Speaker 2: and I thought that was the most people that I'd
- 21:54Speaker 2: ever I could fathom in the entire world. I was like,
- 21:57Speaker 2: how do all these people? How have they found it
- 21:59Speaker 2: to my Facebook group? And Jess for you to then.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Be like, hey, like three years later we're at.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Two hundred thousand. I'm like what, Like, where have you
- 22:08Speaker 2: all come from? And how are you so excited about this?
- 22:12Speaker 2: Because I felt so lame when I started. She's on
- 22:14Speaker 2: the money. But now it's like a thing. Now it's
- 22:17Speaker 2: a book, it's a podcast, it's a whole community.
- 22:20Speaker 4: What absolutely wild To put that into some perspective for
- 22:24Speaker 4: all my fellow visual people out there, that is over
- 22:28Speaker 4: double the capacity of the MCG. So we have two
- 22:31Speaker 4: MPGs worth of humans sharing their tips and tricks who all.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Want to be financially free. Can you imagine?
- 22:40Speaker 4: It's next level. We also ticked over one hundred k
- 22:43Speaker 4: on Instagram. We got to work with some of our
- 22:45Speaker 4: favorite brands. We got to give away so many fantastic things,
- 22:49Speaker 4: and we're hoping that that's going to be bigger and better.
- 22:52Speaker 4: We're going to get someone a Dison air up. It's
- 22:54Speaker 4: my personal mission to get.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Someone an air two Dyson.
- 22:59Speaker 2: If you are listening, Jess would like to work more
- 23:01Speaker 2: closely with you, and we would really like a Dicon
- 23:05Speaker 2: air rap to give away to our community.
- 23:07Speaker 5: One thousand percent. Okay, So that's everything that has happened, ladies,
- 23:12Speaker 5: But what's what's ahead in twenty twenty two? What's on
- 23:15Speaker 5: the agenda with shoes on?
- 23:16Speaker 2: I mean a lot also happened, like every single week.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Just to like go back to what happened every single week, guys,
- 23:23Speaker 2: Jess has been posting in the community about the money
- 23:25Speaker 2: wins and confessions people have been happening, and the amount
- 23:28Speaker 2: of times I've seen people say I got out of
- 23:30Speaker 2: debt this year, I have changed my money story. I
- 23:32Speaker 2: got out of an abusive relationship. I am finally on
- 23:35Speaker 2: top of my credit card. I finally have an emergency fund.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I could pay vet bills without being stressed.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I didn't have to worry about having money for groceries
- 23:43Speaker 2: this week. Like, guys, I cannot tell you how proud
- 23:47Speaker 2: I am of every single person's personal journey over the
- 23:50Speaker 2: last twelve months in the She's on the Money community, Like,
- 23:54Speaker 2: it is not only cool that you guys have done
- 23:57Speaker 2: that for yourselves, but you've shared it with us and
- 24:00Speaker 2: known how important it is to us that that is vocalized.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Because for every money win that is shared, I guarantee
- 24:08Speaker 2: you there's ten that haven't been because people don't always
- 24:11Speaker 2: want to, you know, talk about money on the internet.
- 24:13Speaker 2: But every single time you do that, you're giving permission
- 24:16Speaker 2: to somebody else to talk about money more openly. And
- 24:20Speaker 2: how cool is it that we are now at a
- 24:22Speaker 2: stage where every single week it has gone from me
- 24:26Speaker 2: having what I thought was a lame Facebook group where
- 24:29Speaker 2: I used to ask my sister to like and comment
- 24:32Speaker 2: on my posts, to just having to turn comments off
- 24:35Speaker 2: on old threads because there are literally thousands of comments
- 24:38Speaker 2: of people sharing their money wins and sharing their confessions.
- 24:42Speaker 2: And every single week just posts a new thread and says, right, guys,
- 24:45Speaker 2: what are your wins this week?
- 24:46Speaker 3: And we get to.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Learn from them, we get to celebrate them and share them.
- 24:50Speaker 2: And I cannot begin to tell you how special that is.
- 24:53Speaker 2: And I promise you it will not go anywhere. It
- 24:55Speaker 2: will happen again all next year. But George, your question,
- 24:59Speaker 2: what's coming next year?
- 25:00Speaker 5: What if we got in store?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Look, we won't be getting rid of any of the episodes.
- 25:04Speaker 2: We will still be here with our bells on. But
- 25:07Speaker 2: the beautiful thing about twenty twenty two is that we
- 25:10Speaker 2: are going to have a bit more freedom. We're going
- 25:11Speaker 2: to be able to travel g not personally but she's
- 25:15Speaker 2: on the money. He's going to be able to travel
- 25:17Speaker 2: touch we will be able to do yet look not
- 25:19Speaker 2: Colm would, but we're going to be able to do events.
- 25:22Speaker 2: We're going to be able to do a tour. We
- 25:24Speaker 2: are going to be able to meet you guys, which
- 25:27Speaker 2: for me has been one of the hardest parts of growing.
- 25:30Speaker 2: She's on the money. You know, Jess was celebrating before
- 25:33Speaker 2: we launched the book, and I'm so proud of that,
- 25:36Speaker 2: but one of the most heartbreaking parts of that was
- 25:39Speaker 2: I wanted to share that with the community. I wanted
- 25:41Speaker 2: to meet you guys. I wanted to hug people and
- 25:43Speaker 2: you know, share that in person. But unfortunately, because twenty
- 25:47Speaker 2: twenty one was the year that was, that wasn't an option.
- 25:50Speaker 2: So our priority next year is getting out and sharing
- 25:54Speaker 2: content with you and doing events. And I'm pretty sure
- 25:57Speaker 2: the first event will do next year is for International
- 26:00Speaker 2: Women's Day, So keep your eyes pelled because we will
- 26:02Speaker 2: be doing that in a couple of locations, not just Melbourne.
- 26:06Speaker 5: That's in March, isn't it or May? It is in March.
- 26:09Speaker 2: It is in March, and those are coming and we
- 26:12Speaker 2: are already in the background pulling that together. So keep
- 26:15Speaker 2: your eyes peeled because unfortunately we will have limited tickets,
- 26:19Speaker 2: So if you're interested in that, definitely be on our
- 26:22Speaker 2: eedm and sign up to our newsletter on our website
- 26:25Speaker 2: to make sure that you are in the know, because
- 26:28Speaker 2: that is who we will tell first our email list
- 26:31Speaker 2: and our Facebook group, and then we'll launch it to
- 26:33Speaker 2: the public. So if you're interested in coming to that,
- 26:35Speaker 2: please make sure you are keeping your eyes pelled and
- 26:39Speaker 2: checking out what we're up to because that will be
- 26:41Speaker 2: announced early next year. Exciting stuff, I know, right, like
- 26:46Speaker 2: imagine real live events.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Before we wrap this episode, the last one of the year,
- 26:51Speaker 4: normally we put a listener.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Question here, but I've been thinking.
- 26:55Speaker 4: To myself and I actually have a little question that
- 26:58Speaker 4: I would like to ask. I can pretend to be
- 27:01Speaker 4: a listener if you would like me to.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I do know that when you come into the office
- 27:04Speaker 2: in the mornings, just sometimes you do put your phone
- 27:07Speaker 2: down and she's on the money is on your phone.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I'm like, geez, Louise, are you not sick of our voices?
- 27:12Speaker 2: Like you get them twenty four to seven in the
- 27:14Speaker 2: office and then you listen to the episodes as well.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Who are you? So technically you are a listener, it
- 27:18Speaker 3: could be a listener question.
- 27:19Speaker 5: One thousand percent.
- 27:21Speaker 4: So with the silly season being here, I've been thinking
- 27:24Speaker 4: a lot about clothes, the whole having a dress or
- 27:28Speaker 4: an outfit for an event that you then perhaps don't
- 27:32Speaker 4: want to wear for a while and it sits in
- 27:34Speaker 4: your closet while you wait for some time to re
- 27:37Speaker 4: wear it at a later occasion with different people. How
- 27:40Speaker 4: do we feel about renting out your dresses? Because I've
- 27:44Speaker 4: seen people doing it on deepop and Instagram. I know
- 27:47Speaker 4: there's some websites out there, and maybe this is something
- 27:50Speaker 4: that the community can chime in on if any of
- 27:52Speaker 4: them do it. But I just have some beautiful dresses
- 27:55Speaker 4: that maybe cost me a little bit of money if
- 27:58Speaker 4: we're being honest, that I would love to see doing something.
- 28:02Speaker 4: But then I got thinking, oh, the tax implications, and
- 28:06Speaker 4: I mean the sending and the posting and the is
- 28:10Speaker 4: it even worth it? So I wanted to see the
- 28:13Speaker 4: have you ever thought about it? Have you heard of
- 28:14Speaker 4: anyone doing it?
- 28:16Speaker 3: I had lots of people doing it.
- 28:19Speaker 2: I have pondered the idea historically, But at the same time,
- 28:24Speaker 2: I think the administration would actually be a lot of time, energy,
- 28:28Speaker 2: and effort and unfortunately, I don't know. Maybe this isn't
- 28:32Speaker 2: the truth, but from my opinion, I don't think it's
- 28:35Speaker 2: like lending address to a girlfriend, Like I know that
- 28:38Speaker 2: if I lent you address, Jess, it would come back
- 28:41Speaker 2: in the same or better condition, like you're not going
- 28:44Speaker 2: to not look after my things, Whereas I don't think
- 28:47Speaker 2: that that is true for people who just hire addresses
- 28:50Speaker 2: and you don't know them, like who knows how they're
- 28:52Speaker 2: going to treat them or if they're going to wear
- 28:53Speaker 2: it to their UNI ball and it's going to come
- 28:56Speaker 2: back with questionable things all over the dress and you go,
- 29:00Speaker 2: I have to dry clean it. I just I don't
- 29:02Speaker 2: know if I have time to facilitate that. I mean,
- 29:04Speaker 2: my friends and my family know that my wardrobe is
- 29:07Speaker 2: completely open for borrowing and sharing, and I.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Really love that.
- 29:11Speaker 2: But I don't know if I'd ever do it on
- 29:13Speaker 2: the internet. But it could be a good little side hustle.
- 29:15Speaker 5: That's why I was thinking.
- 29:16Speaker 4: I see these girls and they're renting dresses for I mean,
- 29:20Speaker 4: obviously depending on where you purchase it from a couple
- 29:23Speaker 4: hundred bucks and I'm like, red dress out, Yeah, rent
- 29:26Speaker 4: to dress out a couple of times and it's paid
- 29:28Speaker 4: for itself, which is what I found so appealing.
- 29:30Speaker 5: And you're absolutely right.
- 29:31Speaker 4: I guess the back end admin of it, the posting
- 29:34Speaker 4: and the dry cleaning and all of that stuff probably
- 29:36Speaker 4: is something that I need to think about in terms
- 29:39Speaker 4: of tax I'm assuming that money that I would earn
- 29:42Speaker 4: i'd have to be to clearing.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yes, you boyd, it is taxable income. But in saying that,
- 29:47Speaker 2: it depends on whether you're making that a business or
- 29:50Speaker 2: it's just a bit of a hobby. On the side,
- 29:52Speaker 2: you could potentially talk to your accountant about deeming it
- 29:56Speaker 2: as income derived from a hobby, which is not tax
- 30:00Speaker 2: up into a certain point. So I think you can
- 30:02Speaker 2: make up to five thousand dollars from a hobby without
- 30:05Speaker 2: having a tax, But that is quite fickle. And before
- 30:09Speaker 2: you make that decision and go, well, I'll just claim
- 30:11Speaker 2: it as a hobby, like do talk to your accountant,
- 30:13Speaker 2: because I know a lot of people have gotten in
- 30:16Speaker 2: a bit of trouble for being like, oh, it's it's
- 30:18Speaker 2: a hobby. So for example, I know someone who claimed
- 30:22Speaker 2: uber as a hobby just because they did it a
- 30:24Speaker 2: couple of times, and they were like, oh, it was
- 30:26Speaker 2: just for fun. But uber is definitely not a hobby.
- 30:29Speaker 2: It is definitely a business. And because you have to register,
- 30:32Speaker 2: et cetera, et cetera, it wasn't so have a chat
- 30:34Speaker 2: with your accountant. But if you're only doing it here,
- 30:37Speaker 2: there and everywhere, maybe it could be categorized as a hobby.
- 30:40Speaker 5: Yeah, good way of like paying off a dress. I
- 30:42Speaker 5: like that.
- 30:43Speaker 4: That's what I thought, like self paying. So maybe if
- 30:45Speaker 4: anyone's ever done it and has any feedback, let me know.
- 30:48Speaker 5: I'm open to it. I'm content.
- 30:49Speaker 2: It's also a really good point that you bring up, Like,
- 30:52Speaker 2: we have so many beautiful clothes, and I'm a really
- 30:55Speaker 2: big fan of re wearing dresses. Like I didn't buy
- 30:59Speaker 2: a dress to wear once. I wore it because I
- 31:01Speaker 2: put it on and it made me feel good and
- 31:04Speaker 2: I really liked it, and therefore I'm very likely to
- 31:06Speaker 2: want to wear it to a lot of different events.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Like I have this blue striped dress, and if you're
- 31:11Speaker 2: an og Facebook group member from like three years ago,
- 31:14Speaker 2: you would have seen it a million times.
- 31:17Speaker 3: But it's like the.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Sisterhood of the traveling dress. Like I've worn it to
- 31:20Speaker 2: multiple weddings, multiple events. I'm pretty sure every single one
- 31:24Speaker 2: of my friends at some point or another has worn it.
- 31:26Speaker 2: My sister has worn it, like everybody has worn this dress.
- 31:29Speaker 2: And I just think there's something really nice about a
- 31:31Speaker 2: dress that carries a level of sentimental value. So maybe
- 31:35Speaker 2: in twenty twenty two, if you've got events, because I
- 31:37Speaker 2: feel like weddings and big events are back on, see
- 31:41Speaker 2: if you could maybe borrow a dress from a friend
- 31:43Speaker 2: before going shopping for a brand new one and create
- 31:46Speaker 2: a money win for yourself and create a good memory
- 31:48Speaker 2: with a beautiful dress that you saw on a friend
- 31:50Speaker 2: one time.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Gorghe Well, I will continue to take advantage of wardrobe
- 31:56Speaker 4: Dell divine.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you welcome, no problems that all, but I do
