- 0:00Speaker 1: The Driver's Show powered by a midsoon nano Taylor to
- 0:03Speaker 1: oil over a century of engineering excellence meets cutting edge
- 0:07Speaker 1: nano scale technology.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Oh jeeze, Okay, yeah yeah. Olivia is just having a
- 0:22Speaker 2: cough and a little This is produced Olivia.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I can't Oliver.
- 0:28Speaker 2: She's a car enthusiast, produces The Driver's Show podcast and
- 0:32Speaker 2: tells us what to do. Pabli is not here, No,
- 0:37Speaker 2: where is he he is?
- 0:39Speaker 4: He's channing his little butt off, isn't he in Croatia.
- 0:44Speaker 4: He's a little butt little, not too big, not too small. Hey,
- 0:51Speaker 4: Jesus said.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I definitely definitely will be. You've been looking at his.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Ass only that one time when you touched it.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I looked. In all fairness to me, he was
- 1:03Speaker 2: doing a pressed fruit bowl up against the glass of
- 1:07Speaker 2: the studio doors. That's what happened. Wow, that was let's
- 1:11Speaker 2: just say that fruit was out of season. There was
- 1:15Speaker 2: a serious, serious fruit fly issue going on that day anyway.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So what we thought we'd do today is best of
- 1:24Speaker 2: the guests of twenty twenty four. So we've got Dave
- 1:27Speaker 2: McCowan from news dot com dot au, Frank Cassidy, who
- 1:29Speaker 2: owns an exquisite Porsche collection a complex called Boxing Gas,
- 1:34Speaker 2: which is I think he's in the middle of the
- 1:36Speaker 2: UK countryside. But he's an incredible man with an incredible
- 1:40Speaker 2: Porscha collection. You can see it all on Instagram. But
- 1:43Speaker 2: the chat is coming up soon. And also just to
- 1:45Speaker 2: take the heat off some legal dramas with Trevor Long,
- 1:48Speaker 2: we decided to put him on.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't know why, but he is coming up. I
- 1:54Speaker 2: don't know what else we need to tell everyone. You're
- 1:56Speaker 2: will trying to buy or looking at buying the Zuzuki Jimney,
- 1:59Speaker 2: which we were just talking about off air. Which color
- 2:02Speaker 2: do you like? Do you like the blue one or
- 2:04Speaker 2: the green?
- 2:05Speaker 4: I was thinking green? You blends in with the grass
- 2:08Speaker 4: if I need to go through the rainforest, okay, But
- 2:15Speaker 4: if anybody is selling a Jymney wants to sponsor me
- 2:19Speaker 4: with the Jymney sponsor, if they'll allow me a short
- 2:24Speaker 4: term loan just so I can get used to it.
- 2:27Speaker 4: See if I really wanted dealers car dealership should be
- 2:30Speaker 4: doing that.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Why didn't you get one and I get one? Do
- 2:33Speaker 2: you know what I've always wanted to do, Get a
- 2:35Speaker 2: couple of Jymneys and play that giant game of soccer
- 2:37Speaker 2: that they did on Top Gear the Arena Special Star
- 2:40Speaker 2: which with the big balls. Okay, leave Paul out of this,
- 2:43Speaker 2: it's getting weird.
- 2:44Speaker 4: That's ways in Croatia.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So yes, best of the guests coming up. Can we
- 2:51Speaker 2: just get into it? Yeah, let's go.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I'm ready.
- 2:55Speaker 2: How we should introduce Dave mccowan's here. Can we give
- 2:57Speaker 2: a little clap? Yay from news dot Com. You or
- 3:01Speaker 2: to be a lot more professional content director for News
- 3:04Speaker 2: Corp Australia. Welk and take Yeah, thank you.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that's quite the introduction.
- 3:08Speaker 6: I've known you for ages. Gordie has about five minutes.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. They're already best is that's fine.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Yeah, that's it. You've kind of moved into a new
- 3:17Speaker 6: role at News Limited. Tell us about what you're doing
- 3:19Speaker 6: now in the car scene.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I've been writing about cars for a long time
- 3:24Speaker 5: and it's a lot more than writing now. I'm a
- 3:27Speaker 5: they call it the content director, but basically just get
- 3:29Speaker 5: to get to steer the ship on how we cover
- 3:31Speaker 5: cars as a company. And that's yeah. It's a huge promotion.
- 3:34Speaker 5: It's a lot of a lot of fun, a lot
- 3:35Speaker 5: of video, a lot of a lot of interesting stuff.
- 3:37Speaker 5: And trying to find things that appeal to a really
- 3:39Speaker 5: broad audience. When you're looking at things like news dot com.
- 3:42Speaker 5: You've got thirty million people a month going to the
- 3:44Speaker 5: website and most of them, yeah, and most of them
- 3:47Speaker 5: don't want to watch twenty minute long car videos and
- 3:49Speaker 5: things like that. So we are doing things a bit differently.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Yeah, that is a good point because often our editorial
- 3:55Speaker 6: guys get lost in this world of covering car content
- 3:58Speaker 6: for and not necessarily enthusiasm, but it's very niche car content,
- 4:02Speaker 6: whereas news is like you're talking to the guy down
- 4:07Speaker 6: the street who doesn't know anything about electric cars, and
- 4:10Speaker 6: most of those people hate them, which is understandable, but yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 6: it is. It is a much different, i guess scope
- 4:18Speaker 6: to doing that. And you guys are going a lot
- 4:21Speaker 6: on video now as well. And I've been watching some
- 4:23Speaker 6: of the stuff that you've been doing a lot of
- 4:24Speaker 6: vertical format, sort of real type stuff. How do you
- 4:28Speaker 6: kind of differentiate doing stuff for News Limited on the
- 4:31Speaker 6: video front compared to what you would have done previously
- 4:34Speaker 6: at like Fairfax, for example, in a specific car role.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, back in the day at Drive, you know, we
- 4:39Speaker 5: Drive was very good at video A long time ago
- 4:43Speaker 5: was really one of the pioneers for it. I mean
- 4:45Speaker 5: back in the day before there was b roll or
- 4:46Speaker 5: anything like that. There's no video crews attending car launchers.
- 4:49Speaker 5: I used to bring a DV camera and a tripod
- 4:51Speaker 5: to like a Mercedes event at Sandown and then just
- 4:54Speaker 5: like try and move the thing around and shoot my
- 4:56Speaker 5: own stuff, and it was absolute. It was a horror show.
- 5:00Speaker 5: And then, you know, like everyone, we moved with the times.
- 5:02Speaker 5: And then, yeah, a couple of years ago. I've been
- 5:04Speaker 5: at News for five six years now, and we've really
- 5:08Speaker 5: gone down the vertical video path because TikTok has as
- 5:11Speaker 5: we all know, broken society, and everyone wants to consume
- 5:15Speaker 5: just a few seconds here and there.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Of he's quite a lot more than a few seconds,
- 5:20Speaker 6: especially with the.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It's just because I'm an influencer now. Yeah, to Paul's point, though,
- 5:31Speaker 2: it's an interesting position to now be in. I mean, effectively,
- 5:35Speaker 2: content has changed, and in some ways it must be
- 5:39Speaker 2: a cool spot to kind of be calling the shots
- 5:43Speaker 2: because we still want to see epic bird's eye shots
- 5:45Speaker 2: and sweeping drone shots, but also it's very raw and
- 5:49Speaker 2: authentic as well, where like anyone can kind of grab
- 5:52Speaker 2: a mobile and just shoot and have a go. And
- 5:54Speaker 2: that's that's just as interesting, you know.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it's crazy, that isn't it. I Mean, we do
- 5:59Speaker 5: the vertical thing a lot of work, but you know,
- 6:01Speaker 5: I'm on TikTok and all that sort of stuff as well,
- 6:02Speaker 5: And all the most successful videos I've had on TikTok
- 6:05Speaker 5: have been completely raw and personal, like I did one
- 6:09Speaker 5: this year that was I've been out for a run,
- 6:12Speaker 5: believe it or not, and there was.
- 6:14Speaker 6: A sick were you running from the cops?
- 6:18Speaker 5: Well, I ran into the cops. There's this this hoirovatog guy.
- 6:20Speaker 5: I had backed up a cycling lane and then parked
- 6:22Speaker 5: across it, basically blocking this running path and cycling lane,
- 6:25Speaker 5: and set up there in an unmarked car sniping people
- 6:28Speaker 5: on a bridge during double demerits. And I had to
- 6:30Speaker 5: chat with him off camera and basically said, hey, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 5: I'm not sure that this is the right thing to
- 6:33Speaker 5: be doing, and he basically took me to jog on,
- 6:36Speaker 5: so so I did, and then did he yeah? And
- 6:39Speaker 5: then I thought, nah, I'm sufficiently outraged about this, but
- 6:42Speaker 5: I think other people might be as well. And so
- 6:45Speaker 5: I filmed this little video and it went bananas millions
- 6:48Speaker 5: and millions of views, and which is really funny because
- 6:50Speaker 5: you put all this effort into producing really exquisite stuff
- 6:52Speaker 5: and doing stuff with drones and b roll and slow
- 6:54Speaker 5: MA and all that sort of stuff, and it gets
- 6:56Speaker 5: two thousand views and then you just do a quick
- 6:58Speaker 5: hold your phone up in front of your face and
- 7:00Speaker 5: about the cops not looking after people.
- 7:02Speaker 2: That was crazy. I think the difference is it's kind
- 7:04Speaker 2: of one is a very authentic, sort of at the
- 7:07Speaker 2: moment story, and one is a narrative. Do you know
- 7:10Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 7:11Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Well you know the thing I remember when
- 7:13Speaker 6: when you did that. I looked at that and I mean,
- 7:15Speaker 6: that is just so shit. Like I get, you know,
- 7:17Speaker 6: you're enforcing speed and whatever. That's that's a different story.
- 7:20Speaker 6: But when you're parking across a cycling lane and the
- 7:23Speaker 6: worst thing, I've said this before on the podcast, it's
- 7:26Speaker 6: just such a shit image. When you've got police in
- 7:29Speaker 6: Victoria and New South Wales getting about in X fives
- 7:32Speaker 6: and five series digging people for speeding, it's like, hold on,
- 7:35Speaker 6: you're in one hundred and twenty thousand dollars card the
- 7:37Speaker 6: look here, and then to just park your five series
- 7:40Speaker 6: straight across the cycling lane. Because you know I'm better
- 7:43Speaker 6: than you. It's like, nah, fuck that. I find that
- 7:45Speaker 6: highly insulting and I'm glad you stood up to them.
- 7:48Speaker 6: And the best part was that he would have then
- 7:50Speaker 6: just while he was sitting there to bone, someone been
- 7:52Speaker 6: flicking through news dot com today and gone, oh huh,
- 7:55Speaker 6: I think that was me.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Shit, that's me. I better move on myself. Yeah, that
- 8:01Speaker 2: was absolutely that was such a revenue raising kind of event,
- 8:07Speaker 2: just caught then and there.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Yeah. Well, now, last episode I teased and teased and teased.
- 8:12Speaker 2: He did you got your feathers out? You teased me
- 8:16Speaker 2: as hard as I like. It wasn't budging. In fact,
- 8:20Speaker 2: at one point I coughed dust out of it. I
- 8:25Speaker 2: think my penis would sound like Louis the Fla, just
- 8:30Speaker 2: a little cigar. She come on, you can't tease me
- 8:35Speaker 2: have But yes, so you went on a secret mission. Yes,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I'm going to try and guess was this mission? Was
- 8:42Speaker 2: this mission? Where was it?
- 8:43Speaker 6: Mission possible? Was this one? It was? It all came
- 8:47Speaker 6: together nicely. Yeah, actually, well part of it didn't, which
- 8:49Speaker 6: we'll explain in a sec. But Dave was actually there
- 8:51Speaker 6: as well. It was the unveiling of the newness and patrol,
- 8:55Speaker 6: and that was the car that I was sort of
- 8:57Speaker 6: talking about. They flew us over to the Middle East.
- 9:00Speaker 6: Abu Dhabi was where they chose to launch the vehicle,
- 9:02Speaker 6: and funnily enough, on the day of the launch, these
- 9:05Speaker 6: images leaked of it and there were these blokes standing
- 9:08Speaker 6: around in their traditional dress and I was like, oh,
- 9:11Speaker 6: that's a bit weird. And then one of my friends,
- 9:13Speaker 6: who's one of the journalists over in the Middle East,
- 9:15Speaker 6: he goes, well, that was actually delivered to the shake
- 9:19Speaker 6: one of the sheikh's homes because as part of the
- 9:22Speaker 6: agreement of them being allowed to launch the vehicle in
- 9:24Speaker 6: Abu Dhabi, they had to show the vehicle to this
- 9:28Speaker 6: bloke ahead of the launch, and while the car was there,
- 9:31Speaker 6: they basically snapped a couple of picks, sent the brown
- 9:33Speaker 6: to a WhatsApp group and it leaked and even up
- 9:36Speaker 6: until ten seconds before everyone in the world saw this car.
- 9:41Speaker 6: They were wheeling the cars into the area where we
- 9:44Speaker 6: were completely camouflage. They had this thing dressed over the
- 9:49Speaker 6: car so you couldn't actually see. It was a very
- 9:53Speaker 6: funny joke, but I will definitely.
- 9:55Speaker 2: There's an important people listening to this episode more reframe.
- 9:59Speaker 6: Yes, so, but yeah, they wheeled this thing in and
- 10:01Speaker 6: then the second the car was there on the stage,
- 10:04Speaker 6: they took it off and the unveiling was incredible. They
- 10:07Speaker 6: had like a sand dune set up in this exhibition
- 10:10Speaker 6: center where the car sort of drove out onto and look.
- 10:13Speaker 6: I got to say, we've got a really close look
- 10:16Speaker 6: at the vehicle. And to me, I think this is
- 10:18Speaker 6: a quantum leap forward in terms of interior, what do
- 10:20Speaker 6: you reckon and just design in general.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks it looks amazing, and you can see
- 10:24Speaker 5: that the thing is basically like a Japanese rang drove
- 10:27Speaker 5: and they've gone they've gone for the moon with this,
- 10:29Speaker 5: and and under the bonet as well, you know, they
- 10:31Speaker 5: ditched the old V eight and put in a twin
- 10:32Speaker 5: turbo six with a.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Little bit of feel about that.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Well, the other day I had back to back niss
- 10:37Speaker 5: And bookings where I drove a Nissan Patrol Warrior with
- 10:40Speaker 5: its side pipes and its big of the dog.
- 10:43Speaker 2: It's got a good sound though.
- 10:45Speaker 5: It sounds incredible.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 5: And then and then I went back to back with
- 10:49Speaker 5: a Nismo Z and that sounds not incredible at all.
- 10:53Speaker 5: And that's supposed to be the sports car one hundred
- 10:55Speaker 5: thousand dollars sports car that you'd like to take out
- 10:56Speaker 5: for a driving a weekend. And you know, it's better
- 10:58Speaker 5: to get into the family bus if you want to
- 10:59Speaker 5: hear something that sounds good. So, yeah, the new Patrol
- 11:02Speaker 5: will sound like a tractor, but you'll feel pretty cool
- 11:05Speaker 5: inside it.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean even some of the tech like they
- 11:07Speaker 6: had this, I don't think this has been in any
- 11:09Speaker 6: other cars before. Basically biometric climate control and what they're
- 11:12Speaker 6: able to do using an infrared sensor mounted to the roof.
- 11:16Speaker 6: When an occupant enters the vehicle, it's able to measure
- 11:19Speaker 6: their skin temperature and if they've been out in the
- 11:22Speaker 6: in the searing desert heat, which is exactly what it was.
- 11:26Speaker 6: It basically will detect that you're you've just come in
- 11:29Speaker 6: the car, you're hotter than everyone else, and we will
- 11:31Speaker 6: increase the fans speed near you. Oh my god, but
- 11:34Speaker 6: it cools you down, which is amazing.
- 11:36Speaker 2: That's so Japanese. Yeah, you know what I mean, that's
- 11:39Speaker 2: that's amazing.
- 11:39Speaker 5: For people listening to this driving with their pets, and
- 11:41Speaker 5: you can imagine the dogs of Australia love to have
- 11:43Speaker 5: this implemented.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Veterinarians officers.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Actually I heard Trevor jump to one of those and
- 11:48Speaker 2: the airkind just aims straight for his nu.
- 11:52Speaker 6: I just couldn't find them. Other cool stuff pneumatic massaging,
- 11:59Speaker 6: and there is a key difference. And I'm going to
- 12:00Speaker 6: sound like an absolute wanker here, but if you get
- 12:02Speaker 6: into a French car and you turn the massage seats on,
- 12:05Speaker 6: it's like is someone lightly pushing my seat from behind?
- 12:09Speaker 6: You don't feel a thing. Numatic massages it's like someone's
- 12:14Speaker 6: driving a knife into your back. So it's got a
- 12:16Speaker 6: set of those, which is great. They released a Pro
- 12:19Speaker 6: four X version which is like an off road friendly one.
- 12:21Speaker 6: That twin turbo V six will be interesting because to me,
- 12:24Speaker 6: I have a look at everyone that buys a patrol
- 12:26Speaker 6: these days. The second they get them, they modify them.
- 12:29Speaker 6: They'll lift big wheels, big tires, snork, they just go
- 12:33Speaker 6: to town on them. The second Nissan goes down this
- 12:36Speaker 6: path of turbo charging this car, it's got air suspension.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Now you're just removing. There was even another thing that
- 12:44Speaker 6: was pointed out by my Middle Eastern friend over there.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Basically he was saying that when they jack up patrols
- 12:51Speaker 6: in the UAE, at the moment, there's enough clearance between
- 12:55Speaker 6: the basically the suspension components and the body fit to
- 12:59Speaker 6: fit big, big wheels. What they've now done though, to
- 13:02Speaker 6: meet crash test requirements for the states where they have
- 13:05Speaker 6: I think it's called the near offset, where they basically
- 13:07Speaker 6: crash the car into what is a parked car, effectively
- 13:12Speaker 6: a narrow overlap. Overlap that's in it, but you're only
- 13:14Speaker 6: glancing it. These big vehicles that are on ladder frame chassis,
- 13:18Speaker 6: they're designed to have like a basically a wheel ejector.
- 13:21Speaker 6: So if your wheel hits the side of this car,
- 13:24Speaker 6: instead of it folding into the cabin and intruding into
- 13:27Speaker 6: your footwell, it's got basically a metal component that's attached
- 13:30Speaker 6: to the chassis that ejects the wheel out the side
- 13:33Speaker 6: of the car, so you don't have it in the way.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So if you have a look, gee, you wouldn't want
- 13:37Speaker 2: to be near that.
- 13:38Speaker 6: Crash, correct, But if you have a look at the chassis,
- 13:40Speaker 6: it basically prevents you from from fitting some of the
- 13:43Speaker 6: big wheels that you can currently fit to patrol. So
- 13:46Speaker 6: he pointed that out to me, and I'm like, oh,
- 13:47Speaker 6: I didn't even notice that. So I'm going to have
- 13:48Speaker 6: a closer look at that because it is going to
- 13:51Speaker 6: affect what you can do to this in terms of modifications.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember seeing this in terms of like the
- 13:56Speaker 2: looks of it. It does look quite premium, like it's
- 13:59Speaker 2: quite a plush looking, almost European car, and I thought,
- 14:03Speaker 2: who's going to put a big sports bar on this?
- 14:06Speaker 2: And yeah, you would, Fat Pogan, but I just thought, like,
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's actually quite a beautiful looking car. I think then
- 14:16Speaker 2: this in patrol needed this, and my first thoughts were
- 14:21Speaker 2: people are going to just modify the shit out of this.
- 14:23Speaker 2: It will be interesting about the suspension though, because isn't
- 14:26Speaker 2: that under some sort.
- 14:27Speaker 6: Of subscription I they were talking about They briefly mentioned
- 14:32Speaker 6: some subscription stuff, but I think the translating wasn't great
- 14:36Speaker 6: because someone asked what is the mass and he said
- 14:39Speaker 6: thirty five hundred kilos. It's like, no, no, it hasn't
- 14:41Speaker 6: added a ton since you've updated it. And I watched
- 14:44Speaker 6: a few of the videos back after and a lot
- 14:46Speaker 6: of people quoted thirty five hundred kilos as the mass.
- 14:48Speaker 6: I'm like, that's not true.
- 14:51Speaker 5: On the subscription run it does. It's hooked up with
- 14:53Speaker 5: Google as an OS, so you can you can use
- 14:56Speaker 5: Google Play apps and all that sort of stuff in
- 14:57Speaker 5: the big touch green in the middle of the car,
- 14:59Speaker 5: which and they've basically said, yeah, this is going to
- 15:01Speaker 5: be revenue stream forests going forward for this and for
- 15:04Speaker 5: other car companies as well.
- 15:05Speaker 6: What do you think about subscriptions.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I've been thinking about it a lot lately.
- 15:09Speaker 5: I've got got a story coming out about it pretty
- 15:11Speaker 5: pretty soon that you'll see up on news dot com.
- 15:13Speaker 5: They're they're everywhere, you know. The other day I attended
- 15:16Speaker 5: to launch of the new smart hashtag one and hashtag
- 15:19Speaker 5: three fucking stupid. Yeah you said it. And this thing
- 15:25Speaker 5: has has a little digital avatar. So if you're old
- 15:28Speaker 5: enough to have used Microsoft word back in the day
- 15:29Speaker 5: where they had Clippy, the little.
- 15:31Speaker 2: The little clip, hard guy, can I help you off?
- 15:36Speaker 5: It looks like you're writing a letter and this this this,
- 15:38Speaker 5: you know, there will be like a little little fox
- 15:41Speaker 5: or a little cheata in the corner of the screen,
- 15:43Speaker 5: like a little animated animal that will be like, oh,
- 15:46Speaker 5: it looks like you're trying to adjust the air conditioning.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Can I help you with that? And this is this
- 15:51Speaker 5: is genuinely I think that's in the car now and
- 15:53Speaker 5: you can choose between a fox or a cheetah for free.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Oh but if you want to design your own sort
- 15:58Speaker 2: of advatars.
- 15:59Speaker 5: In China you can, you can unlock other avatars, but
- 16:02Speaker 5: all it's all money. You're paying to do it all,
- 16:04Speaker 5: and then you can pay for accessories for them, like
- 16:06Speaker 5: little hats and wings, and really.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Myavata would just look like a meat pie and a
- 16:10Speaker 2: bean bag, like a.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Good Saturday afternoon. But that's the thing I get subscriptions
- 16:18Speaker 6: and those little titty bits for for kids. If you're
- 16:21Speaker 6: a kid that plays Fortnite and all that stuff, you
- 16:23Speaker 6: force your parents into buying a little upgrades and I've
- 16:25Speaker 6: never played for they spend a lot of money on
- 16:27Speaker 6: it there, But it seems to me if you're an adult,
- 16:31Speaker 6: I mean, would you really pay as people?
- 16:33Speaker 2: There are people out there.
- 16:34Speaker 6: Really, but there are a lot of them. I don't know.
- 16:37Speaker 6: I get the concept of it. To me. Subscriptions make
- 16:41Speaker 6: sense for stuff like what Tesla does, where you can
- 16:43Speaker 6: pay to get premium connectivities. You're getting satellite maps, you're
- 16:47Speaker 6: getting Spotify, all that sort of stuff. And if you
- 16:49Speaker 6: don't want it, you don't need to have it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: But that's the thing with say Apple car Play, Like
- 16:55Speaker 2: Apple car Plays got all that for you and it's
- 16:56Speaker 2: just running off.
- 16:57Speaker 6: That's why Tesla doesn't let you have Apple.
- 16:59Speaker 2: But this will be I reckon one to watch because
- 17:02Speaker 2: I've got a feeling Apple car Play or Apple in itself.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That'll be their new thing, will be trying to get
- 17:07Speaker 2: in on car companies. Perhaps I don't know.
- 17:09Speaker 6: But that's that's what they're doing now, Dave. You would
- 17:12Speaker 6: have seen the demo they had of the entire Apple
- 17:14Speaker 6: car right. It's not a physical car, but it's a
- 17:17Speaker 6: takeover of the infotainment.
- 17:18Speaker 5: And that's the idea, is the digital dashboards in cars,
- 17:20Speaker 5: your car play, instead of it just being on the
- 17:22Speaker 5: little screen in between the driver and passenger, that it
- 17:24Speaker 5: will fully take over the dashboard. And there are car
- 17:27Speaker 5: companies that have said that they're going to do it.
- 17:28Speaker 5: Porsche's committed to it. I think it'll be probably in
- 17:31Speaker 5: this generation of kN at some point. It hasn't launched
- 17:35Speaker 5: with it.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I think they're close to that because we didn't
- 17:39Speaker 6: talk about this, but the week before the patrol thing,
- 17:42Speaker 6: I went to drive the ex ninety Volvo in the States,
- 17:45Speaker 6: and that car has been delayed now a year, maybe longer.
- 17:49Speaker 6: And it actually follows on with that discussion we had
- 17:52Speaker 6: in the last episode about Rivian, where they've gone and
- 17:55Speaker 6: designed the software stack from virtually ground up, and the
- 17:59Speaker 6: biggest issue that they have when it comes to stuff
- 18:02Speaker 6: like infotament and the screens in cars is that there's
- 18:06Speaker 6: different vendors for everything. You've got n Video running some
- 18:08Speaker 6: of the graphics systems for you for your head up
- 18:11Speaker 6: display and the driver in sort of screen. Then you've
- 18:14Speaker 6: got Google, Android Automotive OS running your infotamement system. That
- 18:19Speaker 6: there's a whole lot of stuff there. But you could
- 18:21Speaker 6: imagine if Apple took over everything you basically, in my mind,
- 18:25Speaker 6: it would be a much smoother experience. Everything would just
- 18:27Speaker 6: work well.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I mean, think about it. We're carrying this thing around
- 18:30Speaker 2: twenty four to seven. It's next to us when we sleep.
- 18:32Speaker 6: It's kind of you want anyone who can't see this,
- 18:34Speaker 6: he's holding his phone.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm holding my not anything else. This is just
- 18:38Speaker 2: for our substack listness. What that is I don't know,
- 18:44Speaker 2: but yeah, it's basically just like your phone's an extension
- 18:48Speaker 2: of yourself. So I kind of go, it's just such
- 18:51Speaker 2: an easier and cheaper thing, like you're already paying for
- 18:53Speaker 2: the apps on your phone, surely when you just want
- 18:55Speaker 2: to plug it into your car, get it all up
- 18:57Speaker 2: and there you go. I've fell divided about it because
- 19:02Speaker 2: it feels I get the reasoning behind it in terms
- 19:05Speaker 2: of user experience, but I also feel like it's just
- 19:08Speaker 2: a revenue raising kind of tool from those.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Car company one hundred percent. Like the I was talking
- 19:12Speaker 5: to BMW about it the other day, the current generation
- 19:15Speaker 5: X five. You can buy a base model car that
- 19:17Speaker 5: has sports suspension in it, well like adaptive suspension that
- 19:20Speaker 5: has comfort in sports mode. To access that, it's twenty
- 19:23Speaker 5: nine dollars a month or two hundred ninety dollars for
- 19:27Speaker 5: a year. And I think the idea with this is
- 19:30Speaker 5: that it's not so much about the first owner but
- 19:32Speaker 5: the subsequent owners, because people are looking at this exactly
- 19:34Speaker 5: like your iPhone. Right, so you buy your iPhone sixteen,
- 19:37Speaker 5: if you're going to get the new one in a
- 19:38Speaker 5: couple of weeks, it's just going to roll over all
- 19:41Speaker 5: the subscriptions and all the apps and all the preferences
- 19:43Speaker 5: that you had on your previous generation phone, and I
- 19:46Speaker 5: think the car companies are looking at it in a
- 19:48Speaker 5: similar sort of way, where when you roll from one
- 19:50Speaker 5: car to the next, as you know, you roll over,
- 19:52Speaker 5: release or whatever, it will have all your favorite preferences.
- 19:55Speaker 5: It will know automatically what your preferred radio stations are,
- 19:59Speaker 5: what you'll prefer, and you know, climate control settings, all
- 20:02Speaker 5: that sort of stuff, and other things too, like calendars
- 20:05Speaker 5: and all that sort of stuff. It's all synked in,
- 20:07Speaker 5: so it will have that as part of the services
- 20:10Speaker 5: in the same way that you know, if I switch
- 20:12Speaker 5: from my iPhone fifteen to sixteen, it's going to roll
- 20:14Speaker 5: over and have Ko and Spotify and all the stuff
- 20:16Speaker 5: that I'm paying for without me having to sign up
- 20:19Speaker 5: for anything new, and the phone is just a vessel
- 20:21Speaker 5: for those digital services. I think that's the way they're
- 20:23Speaker 5: looking at it from a car perspective.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Abs and stuff I can kind of get because you
- 20:27Speaker 2: can pick and choose what you like, and it's up
- 20:28Speaker 2: to you if you really want fucking Netflix in your
- 20:31Speaker 2: car whatever. But when it comes to stuff like whether
- 20:33Speaker 2: it be I don't know, suspension subscription, so you can
- 20:36Speaker 2: get like sports suspension or massage seats, or you know whatever,
- 20:41Speaker 2: I just that kind of thing. I mean, I get
- 20:44Speaker 2: you're kind of paying for that extra anyway, but I
- 20:47Speaker 2: feel like if it's in the car all along, you
- 20:49Speaker 2: should just fucking be able to have it.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Yeah, So this is KEYA. In the US, they've got
- 20:53Speaker 5: a mode for the EV nine. I wonder who'd buy
- 20:55Speaker 5: one of those to access to access the cars, Like,
- 21:02Speaker 5: it's got a level of performances standard, but if you
- 21:04Speaker 5: want to go a little bit faster than you've got
- 21:06Speaker 5: to buy a Boost mode, which is nine hundred US
- 21:08Speaker 5: dollars again, fourteen hundred bucks to access. But it doesn't
- 21:11Speaker 5: change anything physically. It just changes the software in the
- 21:14Speaker 5: motor and the and the battery the way that it
- 21:16Speaker 5: outputs energy. I mean, Motor Trend did a really great
- 21:19Speaker 5: story with this where they've got a long term EV
- 21:21Speaker 5: nine and they went into the touchscreen and bought everything
- 21:24Speaker 5: that they could find and it was twenty eight hundred dollars.
- 21:28Speaker 5: It was a lot of shit. So like, if you've
- 21:30Speaker 5: got imagine imagine you know, your your kids footy training
- 21:32Speaker 5: or something like that, and that you're the paarent out
- 21:34Speaker 5: they're standing with the umbrella and one of your kids says, oh,
- 21:36Speaker 5: can I just go and sit in the car? Please
- 21:39Speaker 5: come back to like three grand where the stuff they've
- 21:41Speaker 5: had it.
- 21:41Speaker 6: It's now convertible. They've pressed too many buds.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Some of it's really interesting, like this idea that you know,
- 21:46Speaker 5: if you've got a favorite sports team, you can customize
- 21:49Speaker 5: the car's ambient lighting and the theme of the dashboard
- 21:52Speaker 5: to like the LA Lakers. And that's a one off
- 21:54Speaker 5: forty dollars charge over there, but you could probably do
- 21:57Speaker 5: that anyway by just messing around with the ambient lighting
- 22:00Speaker 5: and all that sort of stuff deep in the menus.
- 22:02Speaker 6: Yeah, because you know, as a Forward Ranger owner, I've
- 22:06Speaker 6: been having a look at the range of forums and
- 22:08Speaker 6: they've got this tool that you can basically plug into
- 22:10Speaker 6: the OBD port and it's called four scan or something
- 22:13Speaker 6: like that, but you can basically.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Four scar.
- 22:19Speaker 7: Sure you've got to help on if you can drive
- 22:21Speaker 7: a Raptor, but basically it allows you to enable all
- 22:26Speaker 7: of these features that your car has but you don't have.
- 22:30Speaker 6: So for example, if you drive any ever a store
- 22:34Speaker 6: or Ranger that isn't equipped with it, you only have
- 22:37Speaker 6: a certain number of drive modes, whereas if you enable
- 22:40Speaker 6: these features, you can actually have something like a sport mode.
- 22:42Speaker 6: Then they have a sort of tank turn feature which
- 22:45Speaker 6: they've released on the Tremor, which all the cars can do.
- 22:48Speaker 6: You just tick a box and then it appears on
- 22:50Speaker 6: the infotainment screen. It's just again it's all software driven.
- 22:54Speaker 6: All the cars have the same hardware. It's just the
- 22:56Speaker 6: software is then enabled to allow it to happen.
- 22:58Speaker 2: So this thing is basicarly a plug in that kind
- 23:01Speaker 2: of hacks the system pretty much.
- 23:02Speaker 6: Yeah, so it's some sort of a license. Someone whiz
- 23:05Speaker 6: bang has come up with this, but I think it's
- 23:07Speaker 6: it's like you said, you could do it to any car. Really,
- 23:10Speaker 6: if you know that the hardware is there, it will
- 23:13Speaker 6: just do it for you. So yeah, it's that's fascinating stuff. Now,
- 23:17Speaker 6: I was gonna throw at a bit of a curveball here.
- 23:21Speaker 6: The worst car launch you've ever attended?
- 23:24Speaker 5: Oh, I haven't thought about that much at all. I mean,
- 23:27Speaker 5: the smart one the other day did miss in a
- 23:30Speaker 5: couple of places. There's no video to start with, so
- 23:33Speaker 5: that's that's pretty hard these days. But this is what
- 23:35Speaker 5: we're doing. Except that I loved it because I just
- 23:36Speaker 5: shoot everything on my phone.
- 23:37Speaker 6: And no one else can.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Yeah, basically knocked that one out really quick. And you
- 23:43Speaker 5: know the lunch was like lobster tail and oysters and cavia. No,
- 23:46Speaker 5: no really it's seafood. And that was at about eleven d.
- 23:49Speaker 5: I know, look it is. It is a struggle, yeah,
- 23:51Speaker 5: but we will prevail.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Do you find do you find that certain countries put
- 23:57Speaker 2: on better parties than others, Like like Chinese car companies
- 24:02Speaker 2: will bring out everything, whereas I don't know, a German
- 24:06Speaker 2: company might just be like, sit up and enjoy our car.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it depends on how much they want to impress here.
- 24:12Speaker 5: I remember the first time I went on a Key
- 24:13Speaker 5: launch there was a sixteen course Degas station lunch. And
- 24:16Speaker 5: the first time I went on a Mercedes launch it
- 24:17Speaker 5: was for an AMG product that everyone It was the
- 24:19Speaker 5: new A forty five when that first came out like
- 24:21Speaker 5: ten years ago, and that was that was a really
- 24:24Speaker 5: hot car that everyone wanted to drive. And lunch was
- 24:26Speaker 5: at a pie Shot and the pr blow could just
- 24:29Speaker 5: put his credit card on the bar. I was like, yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 5: I mean, treat yourself to a milkshake if you like
- 24:34Speaker 5: talking about bad press launches. I mean Paul and I
- 24:36Speaker 5: attended an absolute cracker of one in the Middle East.
- 24:38Speaker 5: He knows where I'm going with this. It was a
- 24:40Speaker 5: it was, it was brilliant. It was for the Maserati
- 24:42Speaker 5: Levante diesel, which I think we can all agree is
- 24:46Speaker 5: not a great car to start with. I mean they
- 24:49Speaker 5: launched that thing with the diesel from an old jeep
- 24:51Speaker 5: which was really bad. And the later Levante's, don't get
- 24:54Speaker 5: me wrong, they were incredible. They put these twin turbo
- 24:55Speaker 5: v eights in them, basically out of a Ferrari for
- 24:57Speaker 5: a eight, and they were fast and they sounded awesome.
- 25:00Speaker 5: But the original cars were new, no, not that, and
- 25:03Speaker 5: they wanted to show how capable this thing was off road.
- 25:07Speaker 5: So we went into the desert with two or three
- 25:10Speaker 5: press cars and then we were supported by another vehicle,
- 25:13Speaker 5: which I assumed was going to be a patroller or a
- 25:15Speaker 5: land cruise or something like that, but it was another Maserati,
- 25:17Speaker 5: and every single one of them shot the bed spectacularly.
- 25:21Speaker 5: I think the best ones, Like I was following Paul
- 25:23Speaker 5: at one point and yeah, like the air suspension was
- 25:27Speaker 5: dumping out, So these things would have them raised up
- 25:30Speaker 5: as high as possible to drive in deep sand in
- 25:32Speaker 5: the desert. And then when the air suspension would pack in.
- 25:34Speaker 5: They would turn into like la low riders and scrape
- 25:38Speaker 5: their bellies on.
- 25:38Speaker 6: The sand like a shovel.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and so there was that. I mean, the electric
- 25:43Speaker 5: parking brakes are basically welding themselves on. The cabins were
- 25:46Speaker 5: filling with sand and everything was clogging up. I mean,
- 25:48Speaker 5: I had I've got a video of the check engine
- 25:51Speaker 5: lights and warning lights on my phone. It's about three
- 25:53Speaker 5: minutes long.
- 25:53Speaker 6: Yeah, it was.
- 25:54Speaker 5: It was pretty epic, and the support vehicle was pretty
- 25:57Speaker 5: funny as well, because that thing died. And then Paul like,
- 26:00Speaker 5: we don't get me wrong, we get spoilt quite a bit.
- 26:02Speaker 5: There is there is, like I'm not exaggerating about lobster
- 26:05Speaker 5: tails and caveat that happens. We were not spoilt on
- 26:08Speaker 5: this event though, where we were digging these things out
- 26:10Speaker 5: of the sand with our bare hands.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Basically. Do you know what the best part about that
- 26:14Speaker 2: story is the most reliable car there was, the Press
- 26:16Speaker 2: Mini Bus to get your.
- 26:20Speaker 6: Gordy. You've worked with Itamitsu before at their launch event.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I have. I've gotta say I was really impressed.
- 26:26Speaker 2: These guys have been leaders in oil innovation for over
- 26:31Speaker 2: a century. I mean they're the ones trusted by Toyota
- 26:33Speaker 2: and Mazda to deliver precision enginet oils straight from the factory,
- 26:38Speaker 2: and now they're bringing this same expertise directly to OSSI owners.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Like this is exciting times.
- 26:44Speaker 6: So what stood out to you the most?
- 26:46Speaker 2: Okay, so they've got this nano tailored oil and this
- 26:50Speaker 2: stuff is next level. I mean, they don't just make
- 26:53Speaker 2: the kind of who Hi everyday products. Every formula is
- 26:56Speaker 2: designed with a purpose. So we've got the IFG three.
- 26:59Speaker 2: This is perfect for city driving. This is where you're
- 27:02Speaker 2: in that sort of stop start traffic, the stuff that
- 27:05Speaker 2: really puts the stress on your engine. Then you've got
- 27:08Speaker 2: the IFG seven. Now this is a beast for high
- 27:12Speaker 2: performance vehicles. Seven layers of protection on this one, and
- 27:16Speaker 2: it's got their nanocleansing tech that stops oil breakdowns even
- 27:21Speaker 2: in the harshest of conditions. And if you're driving a
- 27:23Speaker 2: Japanese car, the IFG five is built for precision engineered engines,
- 27:29Speaker 2: offering five layers of protection to keep your engine clean
- 27:33Speaker 2: and running smoothly.
- 27:34Speaker 6: Gee, that sounds like some serious attention to detail.
- 27:37Speaker 2: That's what I'm all about. I'm all about the detailed Pavelo.
- 27:40Speaker 2: You know this about me. The IFG seven isn't just oil.
- 27:43Speaker 2: It's like giving your engine a custom built suit of armor.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And it doesn't just protect your engine too, it optimizes performance.
- 27:50Speaker 2: So if you're into keeping your car at its absolute best,
- 27:53Speaker 2: this is the oil that you want.
- 27:55Speaker 6: And now it's easy to get as well.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, it's really easy. It's all online. Just search
- 27:59Speaker 2: out it emits Australia, that's id E m it Su Australia,
- 28:05Speaker 2: or you can write this one down au dot Iamitsu
- 28:09Speaker 2: slash Nano, slash Tailored, slashoil dot com and they will
- 28:13Speaker 2: ship this straight to your door, no fuss, just top
- 28:18Speaker 2: tier oil delivered wherever you are.
- 28:21Speaker 6: If it's good enough for manufacturers like Toyota and Masda,
- 28:24Speaker 6: then it sounds good enough for me. Gordon, thank you.
- 28:27Speaker 6: That's exactly right, Pavlo.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Hey, with eat a MIDSU, you're getting oil that's designed
- 28:31Speaker 2: to handle whatever you throw at it. They've been trusted
- 28:34Speaker 2: by the best part for over one hundred years for
- 28:37Speaker 2: a reason.
- 28:38Speaker 6: It Amitsu taking you beyond engine protection to real driving excitement.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Couldn't have said it better myself. That was great.
- 28:45Speaker 6: I'm always carrying this show.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Have you been good?
- 28:49Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, great?
- 28:51Speaker 2: Did you get any letters like I did from the
- 28:54Speaker 2: lawyers of Trevor Long? Hey, we're chatting with a really
- 29:00Speaker 2: cool guy. One I've been a fan for a long
- 29:03Speaker 2: time and I'm glad he agreed to this podcast. Frankly,
- 29:06Speaker 2: his name's Frank Cassidy and he has arguably one of
- 29:10Speaker 2: the world's best Porsche collections. It's almost like it's almost
- 29:14Speaker 2: like a gallery, like he's almost curated this collection. Then
- 29:19Speaker 2: it's just next level. In a warehouse in the middle
- 29:23Speaker 2: of the British countryside, he's got this thing called box
- 29:25Speaker 2: and gas, which is you're going to hear in this chat.
- 29:28Speaker 2: It's literally a nine to eleven mecha by guys.
- 29:31Speaker 8: How's it going? Thanks for the invite. I appreciate it.
- 29:34Speaker 2: What a stunning beautiful day it looks like in the UK.
- 29:37Speaker 9: Yeah, you know what, it doesn't happen often here, so
- 29:40Speaker 9: when the weather is good, yeah, we take advantage.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a.
- 29:43Speaker 9: Shame the world is burning. But otherwise it's been an
- 29:46Speaker 9: amazing summer over here. We've had up to what was
- 29:49Speaker 9: it up to I think it was thirty eight degrees.
- 29:53Speaker 8: The nine degrees which for us is very hot.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Also the hottest it getus down there probably like forty three.
- 30:00Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, we definitely haven't got to that point quite yet.
- 30:03Speaker 6: Yeah, we have like air conditioners and stuff. I remember
- 30:05Speaker 6: I was in the UK once when it was like
- 30:07Speaker 6: a thirty three degree day and I was staying in
- 30:09Speaker 6: this hotel that was made entirely of concrete and it
- 30:12Speaker 6: was like a Turkish spa. It was like a sauna
- 30:15Speaker 6: in there. It was crazy.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:17Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, No, we don't really do our conditioning over here,
- 30:20Speaker 9: although it's becoming more prevalent. But yeah, do you guys
- 30:24Speaker 9: hear about boxing gows and what we're doing.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I did. I first stumbled across you, I guess
- 30:31Speaker 2: on Instagram, because Instagram has this amazing sort of way
- 30:36Speaker 2: of recommending people that you'd be into following, for instance,
- 30:41Speaker 2: and I guess after looking at far too many Porsche
- 30:45Speaker 2: videos and photos, you eventually came up and I was like, Wow,
- 30:49Speaker 2: this is a guy who's got probably arguably I think
- 30:53Speaker 2: you've probably got one of the world's best collections.
- 30:57Speaker 9: Oh, I don't know about that. I mean, it's all
- 30:58Speaker 9: very subjective. I'll take the compliment.
- 31:01Speaker 8: That's very kind of you.
- 31:01Speaker 9: Thanks for the kind of interest in I don't know
- 31:05Speaker 9: in my little side of Porsche.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Well, I think there's a few. I think there's a
- 31:08Speaker 2: few figureheads around the world. You'll one, maybe Magnus is
- 31:12Speaker 2: another one, and there's probably a few over in Germany
- 31:16Speaker 2: as well. But tell us about Box and Gas because
- 31:18Speaker 2: it's such a I guess an amazing concept because it's
- 31:22Speaker 2: not just you with a stunning collection of cars of
- 31:27Speaker 2: old Porsches. It's really almost like a mecca for nine
- 31:30Speaker 2: to eleven, right, yeah, I.
- 31:32Speaker 8: No, thanks.
- 31:34Speaker 9: Yeah. It's essentially a one hundred acre estate that's entirely
- 31:39Speaker 9: dedicated to Porsche. We bore the estate in war was
- 31:42Speaker 9: at twenty seventeen, so about five years ago, and we'd
- 31:45Speaker 9: be building of us since then. So we've built twenty
- 31:48Speaker 9: thousand square feet which are all least to one of
- 31:51Speaker 9: the UK's most prominent Porsche specialists, and then we've got
- 31:54Speaker 9: another thirty thousand squathy that will be finished by the
- 31:57Speaker 9: end of the year, so in total we'll be at
- 31:58Speaker 9: fifty thousand square feet within the estate and our activities
- 32:02Speaker 9: are we're essentially a glorified business park. It's a very
- 32:08Speaker 9: raw business park with a lot of land around us,
- 32:12Speaker 9: and so we lease the space to Porsche related businesses
- 32:16Speaker 9: and then otherwise we have an annual event called Megaphonics,
- 32:19Speaker 9: and then we have a range of merchandise. And yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 9: so as time goes on, when these last thirty thousand
- 32:26Speaker 9: square feet open, will suddenly be able to do things
- 32:28Speaker 9: on a much more regular basis because there'll be infrastructure
- 32:31Speaker 9: for more hospitality. And when that happens, I will mean
- 32:35Speaker 9: that that we'll be able to do things on a
- 32:38Speaker 9: much more regular basis, so monthly cars and coffee and
- 32:39Speaker 9: that kind of stuff.
- 32:40Speaker 2: That's so cool. Tell us about the Francassidy origin story.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I guess when you curate and acquire this sort of
- 32:48Speaker 2: a collection of cars, you know there must have been
- 32:51Speaker 2: there must have been something pretty special deep inside to
- 32:54Speaker 2: kind of start this off.
- 32:56Speaker 9: Yeah, there's I mean, it's not the most of interesting
- 32:59Speaker 9: of stories, but essentially what's gond I have been obsessed,
- 33:03Speaker 9: like many of us, with cars all my life and
- 33:07Speaker 9: it all started with my mum buying me on cassette
- 33:09Speaker 9: The Love Bug, the nineteen sixty seventh film, And it
- 33:13Speaker 9: started off with beetles, and then naturally, as you start
- 33:16Speaker 9: reading about beetles, eventually discovered Porsche. There was something about
- 33:20Speaker 9: the cowl of guys that really resonated with me. So
- 33:23Speaker 9: that was a group of California guys had a very
- 33:26Speaker 9: laid back attitude but were into drag racing, so they
- 33:29Speaker 9: kind of stripped their beetles of all all unnecessary weight.
- 33:34Speaker 9: And I just really like that philosophy. And so that's
- 33:37Speaker 9: kind of philosophy that I tried to apply to to
- 33:40Speaker 9: some of my more my more extreme cars. Yeah, and
- 33:44Speaker 9: I don't know, that's kind of I guess where it
- 33:46Speaker 9: kind of started.
- 33:47Speaker 6: Yeah, Well, I I've you know, Porsches are I think
- 33:51Speaker 6: you know, it's it's the type of car that that
- 33:53Speaker 6: really regardless of which application may try and attempt, whether
- 33:58Speaker 6: it's a nine or even in a box are a
- 34:00Speaker 6: k in, you know, regardless of what they do, they
- 34:02Speaker 6: kind of execute it. Well, I think you have a
- 34:05Speaker 6: bit of an affinity with air called Porsches. Do you
- 34:08Speaker 6: do you like modern Porsches or do you think that
- 34:10Speaker 6: it's the classic stuff that really sort of tickles you fancy?
- 34:13Speaker 8: Yeah, I appreciate modern Porsches. I've owned modern Porsches before.
- 34:18Speaker 9: We've had a kN as a family, and I've had
- 34:20Speaker 9: a nine to seven Turbo in the past, which is
- 34:22Speaker 9: an amazingly capable car.
- 34:24Speaker 5: And I have huge.
- 34:25Speaker 9: Amounts of respect for modern cars and what they're capable of.
- 34:29Speaker 9: It just happens to be the stuff that really, I
- 34:31Speaker 9: don't know, pause of my heartstrings.
- 34:34Speaker 8: Seems to be the air called stuff.
- 34:36Speaker 9: I think a lot of the star I mean, again,
- 34:38Speaker 9: you know, there's a lot of tchoes out there, but
- 34:39Speaker 9: a lot of the modern stuff is very it's very
- 34:42Speaker 9: very clinical, and it kind of drives itself. And I
- 34:46Speaker 9: respect that massive because there's a huge amount of engineering
- 34:48Speaker 9: that has to go into a car in order to
- 34:50Speaker 9: make it do that. But the old stuff is I
- 34:55Speaker 9: just find it. I find it rewarding from from the
- 34:57Speaker 9: get go, from you know, having to track down a car,
- 35:01Speaker 9: track tracking down a car, getting it back, spending time
- 35:05Speaker 9: with it, figuring out what's wrong with it, getting it
- 35:07Speaker 9: back to like because they all have something wrong, figuring
- 35:12Speaker 9: out what's wrong with it, fixing those things, getting a
- 35:13Speaker 9: nice baseline, driving it for about a year or so,
- 35:16Speaker 9: and then and then setting about creating something that that
- 35:20Speaker 9: I think the car is meant to be. So there's
- 35:22Speaker 9: a very personal aspect to it, I.
- 35:24Speaker 8: Think, and with a lot of modern stuff.
- 35:26Speaker 9: It's all relatively reliable, it's all in good nick which
- 35:29Speaker 9: has which has all its which has its, which has
- 35:33Speaker 9: its place and its merit. But it's less of I
- 35:37Speaker 9: don't know, it's less of a journey that you go
- 35:39Speaker 9: on with it, if that makes sense. So, yeah, the
- 35:42Speaker 9: the older stuff tends to appeal to me a little
- 35:44Speaker 9: bit more than the the newer stuff. But it doesn't
- 35:46Speaker 9: mean to say that I don't have huge much respect
- 35:48Speaker 9: for it, and that there are some days where, you know,
- 35:51Speaker 9: when when several cars have gone wrong, that I just
- 35:53Speaker 9: think I just want to sell everything and buy, you know,
- 35:56Speaker 9: something modern with a warranty, and it make my life easy.
- 36:00Speaker 2: So yeah, what do you think the cutoff is with
- 36:03Speaker 2: a modern Porsche to I guess a classic? Where does
- 36:07Speaker 2: the year sort of beginning? Where's the lines?
- 36:11Speaker 8: It's so it's so.
- 36:11Speaker 9: Subjective, you know, because I remember being I mean, I've
- 36:14Speaker 9: been a several car mets. I've seen online people saying, oh,
- 36:16Speaker 9: the last analog in nine eleven is a nine ninety
- 36:18Speaker 9: seven or a nine nine six or nine nine three,
- 36:22Speaker 9: and it people.
- 36:24Speaker 8: I think people.
- 36:25Speaker 9: Define an analog nine eleven based on their own experience.
- 36:28Speaker 8: Yeah, so from from my.
- 36:30Speaker 9: Perspective, and I'm lucky enough to have driven pretty much
- 36:35Speaker 9: every single generation of Porsche there.
- 36:36Speaker 8: Is out there.
- 36:38Speaker 9: Of the air call variety, I would say it kind
- 36:42Speaker 9: of stops at the nine sixty four. The temptation is
- 36:45Speaker 9: to say the nine nine three because it's the it's
- 36:47Speaker 9: the last of the air cool car. But actually I
- 36:50Speaker 9: define a nine to eleven not necessarily by its engine,
- 36:53Speaker 9: although that is a key factor in the air called
- 36:55Speaker 9: engine is a key factor, but by the way that
- 36:57Speaker 9: it drives, and so like everything that came the nine
- 37:01Speaker 9: six four is the only generation of nine eleven to
- 37:03Speaker 9: have single arm rear trailing arms, whereas the nine nine
- 37:07Speaker 9: three came in with multi link and the one before
- 37:10Speaker 9: the nine six four is a torsion bar car. So
- 37:14Speaker 9: what I'm essentially getting at is that I think that
- 37:17Speaker 9: the nine ninety three changed the game so much without
- 37:19Speaker 9: multi link rear end, without amazing engineering that went into it,
- 37:23Speaker 9: but that for me really was a milestone and how
- 37:26Speaker 9: the car went round the corner, and I personally think
- 37:30Speaker 9: there's a very clear distinction between the nine six four
- 37:32Speaker 9: and the nine nine three.
- 37:33Speaker 6: The other curious thing is, well, Porscha has recently come
- 37:35Speaker 6: out and said that they're working on e fuels and
- 37:38Speaker 6: they're actually building a production facility in Tasmania here in Australia.
- 37:43Speaker 6: And I think it's really fascinating because Porscha Isn't Isn't
- 37:46Speaker 6: kind of saying to all of their customers and their fans,
- 37:49Speaker 6: like you, Hey, you've got an old car. It's going
- 37:52Speaker 6: to be bad luck. You're not going to be able
- 37:54Speaker 6: to do anything with it in ten or fifteen years
- 37:56Speaker 6: when the world goes to electric. Do you think that
- 37:59Speaker 6: the a fuel sort of idea actually has merit And
- 38:03Speaker 6: do you think that people that are in classic vehicles
- 38:06Speaker 6: and especially Porsches will take advantage of something like that
- 38:09Speaker 6: in the future.
- 38:10Speaker 9: Yeah, I think for me looking at it from from
- 38:12Speaker 9: from an even a wider perspective, I think, you know,
- 38:15Speaker 9: without wanting to go too far into it, but I
- 38:18Speaker 9: think I think our biggest, our biggest problem as a
- 38:21Speaker 9: human race is our race of consumption. And I think
- 38:23Speaker 9: that if we can reuse the things that we already
- 38:25Speaker 9: have or slow down our race consumption, then we're we're
- 38:28Speaker 9: we're we're much better. And I think that applying that
- 38:33Speaker 9: to to what you're saying about e fuels makes sense
- 38:35Speaker 9: to me. I think that keeping an older car on
- 38:39Speaker 9: the road going for a longer period of time is
- 38:42Speaker 9: certainly a better thing to do than to keep manufacturing,
- 38:46Speaker 9: you know, new products. So I think the manufacturing that
- 38:48Speaker 9: goes into any new car, whether we're electric or non electric,
- 38:52Speaker 9: has its carbon footprint. And I think that if we
- 38:55Speaker 9: can keep older cars on the road or older products,
- 38:59Speaker 9: keep using our all the products supposed to to to
- 39:01Speaker 9: having new ones, I think that's a good thing. So
- 39:04Speaker 9: I think I think synthetic.
- 39:05Speaker 8: Fuels are a very good idea.
- 39:08Speaker 9: I like the idea of being able to carry on
- 39:09Speaker 9: using our cars.
- 39:10Speaker 8: I like the idea of.
- 39:10Speaker 9: Carrying on being able to use the infrastructure we already have.
- 39:14Speaker 9: We've got all these fuel stations already all around the world,
- 39:17Speaker 9: and if we can carry on using them as opposed
- 39:19Speaker 9: to having to manufacture and build more electric stations, which
- 39:24Speaker 9: again has this carbon footprint, I think that's a good thing.
- 39:27Speaker 9: I think that the thing for me is it's it's
- 39:29Speaker 9: very easy to look I think it's very easy for
- 39:31Speaker 9: politicians to look at cars and just go, okay, well
- 39:34Speaker 9: we'll look straight, we'll look at what.
- 39:36Speaker 8: Comes out of the tail pipe.
- 39:36Speaker 9: But actually the carbon footprint overall starts from the day
- 39:40Speaker 9: that it's manufactured to the day that it becomes obsolete.
- 39:43Speaker 9: And I think that that that is something that we
- 39:45Speaker 9: were as we as I don't know we're as a
- 39:47Speaker 9: world are are certainly appreciating more and more. Yeah, so
- 39:52Speaker 9: it's got my vote as the short answer.
- 39:53Speaker 2: It's funny. It's funny that you're mentioning sustainability too, because
- 39:57Speaker 2: I feel like the way that you collect in a
- 40:00Speaker 2: quiet cars you kind of talk about that you are
- 40:03Speaker 2: preserving these pieces almost like pieces of art for the
- 40:08Speaker 2: next custodians, which I think is really cool, which.
- 40:10Speaker 8: Is Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 40:12Speaker 9: I think that, you know, all of us have a
- 40:14Speaker 9: finite amount of time on this planet, and what's called
- 40:18Speaker 9: we use what we can and we pass on what
- 40:20Speaker 9: we can to the next generation. And I think it's
- 40:22Speaker 9: the same thing with cars. I think it's a bit
- 40:24Speaker 9: too yeah, so so so so Yeah, I think I
- 40:29Speaker 9: hope that I hope that in some way, one shape
- 40:32Speaker 9: or another, that somebody else will get to enjoy the
- 40:34Speaker 9: car after I'm gone, and I'm.
- 40:38Speaker 8: Pleased to have enjoyed it after the previous owner.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yeah, your collection is massive, as we've sort of covered
- 40:44Speaker 2: and as people can say. But because with your collection,
- 40:47Speaker 2: I sort of figure that every single model, every single year,
- 40:51Speaker 2: everything kind of has its own I guess language about it.
- 40:56Speaker 2: If you like, there's sort of this is a really
- 40:59Speaker 2: bad example, but you can pretty much teach anyone French.
- 41:01Speaker 2: But fluency is definitely one thing, and I think driving
- 41:05Speaker 2: like a certain older car requires a little bit of
- 41:08Speaker 2: fluency on how you drive. You've got to know the
- 41:11Speaker 2: ins and outs of it, do you know what I mean?
- 41:13Speaker 8: Yeah, totally.
- 41:13Speaker 9: I mean it's I totally get you know, some people go, Okay,
- 41:18Speaker 9: well why so much Porsche, you know, like that, there's
- 41:21Speaker 9: other things to the world, And I totally get there,
- 41:22Speaker 9: and I've been there.
- 41:23Speaker 8: I've experimented world the cars. But actually that's a very surface.
- 41:27Speaker 9: Level, and I think that when when when you look
- 41:30Speaker 9: at the cars that I'm fortunate enough to have, they
- 41:33Speaker 9: actually have they offer very different driving experiences. There's cars
- 41:37Speaker 9: in there which are very good at going out with
- 41:41Speaker 9: the missus for a Sunday drive, you know, nice and
- 41:43Speaker 9: quiet and comfortable as cars in there that are very
- 41:45Speaker 9: good for crossing Constance because my wife and I love
- 41:48Speaker 9: road trips and it's nice and quiet and.
- 41:50Speaker 8: Comfortable as well. There's cars in there which are incredibly.
- 41:52Speaker 9: Good at alpine tools, so they're stripped out, very very raw,
- 41:56Speaker 9: and it is literally all about that experience being on
- 41:58Speaker 9: that alpine pass on to rain rough roads. And then
- 42:02Speaker 9: there are cars in there which are very good at
- 42:04Speaker 9: just being track cars, so still street legal, so I
- 42:06Speaker 9: can get to the track without having to trailer cars
- 42:08Speaker 9: because it's my idea of a nightmare. And there are
- 42:11Speaker 9: also race cars, so so essentially there's there's a very
- 42:14Speaker 9: eclectic mix, even though it's all one brand.
- 42:17Speaker 2: When you love to have a garage like that, Paul
- 42:19Speaker 2: literally like I'd like to go to the Alps, but
- 42:22Speaker 2: I also want one for a bit of a road
- 42:24Speaker 2: trip to that concert on the weekend. That would be fun.
- 42:28Speaker 8: No, don't get me wrong.
- 42:29Speaker 9: I I totally appreciate how fortunately this fortunate I am,
- 42:32Speaker 9: and and it is certainly a little bit absurd for sure,
- 42:37Speaker 9: But I think, I think, I think the main thing
- 42:41Speaker 9: is that in my view, cars cars have to cars
- 42:44Speaker 9: have to appeal to a mass audience. They need to
- 42:48Speaker 9: they need to be good at everything in order to
- 42:50Speaker 9: appeal to a mass audience and and and make the
- 42:54Speaker 9: shareholders happy. But The truth is we're all unique individuals
- 42:57Speaker 9: with a unique different requirements, and so there's nothing I
- 43:01Speaker 9: think more personal than making your car a true, truest
- 43:04Speaker 9: representation of what driving really means to use an individual
- 43:07Speaker 9: so yeah, so so so, And it also makes an
- 43:10Speaker 9: undiluted experience. It means it's not compromised that one thing
- 43:13Speaker 9: or another. When I go to the racetrack, I know
- 43:16Speaker 9: that this car was built to do that task to
- 43:19Speaker 9: the utmost. And when I'm crossing the continent with the
- 43:21Speaker 9: Misses for a holiday, I know that that car is
- 43:25Speaker 9: perfect for that job and uncompromised.
- 43:27Speaker 6: Also, what do you reckon about like a singer and
- 43:31Speaker 6: some of the people that are now doing av conversions
- 43:34Speaker 6: of classics? Do you reckon that that that stuff ruins
- 43:36Speaker 6: what should be a vehicle that stays as it is?
- 43:39Speaker 6: Or do you think that you know when it comes
- 43:42Speaker 6: to whatever someone wants to do to a car, that
- 43:44Speaker 6: there really is no wrong choice.
- 43:46Speaker 8: To be honest with you, my view is your car,
- 43:48Speaker 8: your rules.
- 43:49Speaker 9: I think that we spend a lot, we spend a
- 43:51Speaker 9: little bit too much time criticizing other other people and
- 43:54Speaker 9: always having to express a point of view, and sometimes
- 43:56Speaker 9: we don't have to have a point of view on anything.
- 43:59Speaker 9: But yeah, I mean, you know, I think singer, what
- 44:01Speaker 9: Singer do is is brilliant. The quality of their craftsmanship
- 44:04Speaker 9: is absolutely fantastic, roof you know, all of them. It's
- 44:07Speaker 9: it's very it's a very interesting space. But it just
- 44:10Speaker 9: it's it's a very different world. I mean when when
- 44:12Speaker 9: I started, the first nine to eleven I bought was
- 44:15Speaker 9: for seven thousand pounds, you know, and it was a
- 44:17Speaker 9: ninety six four. It was six four when I bought
- 44:20Speaker 9: that because I couldn't afford a nine ninety six and
- 44:22Speaker 9: also because I preferred the classic cars, and it meant
- 44:25Speaker 9: because it was a cheap car, it meant that we
- 44:26Speaker 9: could go on circuit, you could chuck it into a wall,
- 44:30Speaker 9: you could rebuild it with parts from the scrap heap,
- 44:33Speaker 9: because there were there were loads of parts of that
- 44:34Speaker 9: time especially, and it didn't owe you very much.
- 44:37Speaker 8: Sorry, yeah, it didn't owe you very much.
- 44:40Speaker 9: So so the world has has suddenly changed, and it's
- 44:44Speaker 9: just it's just funny, how you know. To me, a
- 44:46Speaker 9: ninety six four is a is a seven grand car.
- 44:49Speaker 9: It's a car that you can modify without having to
- 44:51Speaker 9: worry about originality. It's a car that you can take
- 44:54Speaker 9: the track and if you crash it, it's not the
- 44:55Speaker 9: end of the world. And all of a sudden, you
- 44:57Speaker 9: know they're they're all of a sudden, it's been a
- 44:59Speaker 9: whild now but being turned into two singers with much
- 45:03Speaker 9: higher price tagers than seven thousand pounds, so it's it's
- 45:06Speaker 9: it's it's interesting to see how that car is ge
- 45:09Speaker 9: that car.
- 45:09Speaker 8: Has turned around.
- 45:11Speaker 9: And the nine six four was a really interesting model.
- 45:13Speaker 9: It came out in the nineties of the time of
- 45:14Speaker 9: a recession, so they weren't very they weren't sold in
- 45:18Speaker 9: big numbers that they're relatively rare, and and a lot
- 45:22Speaker 9: of them fell into disrepair because people weren't willing to
- 45:24Speaker 9: spend the money on the car that was worth so little.
- 45:27Speaker 8: And they also suffered from dual math flywheel issues in
- 45:30Speaker 8: the first year, and.
- 45:32Speaker 9: They had no head seating gaskets, so the then they
- 45:33Speaker 9: meat a lot of all so they got all immediately
- 45:36Speaker 9: bad pressed. So again it was just more more salt
- 45:40Speaker 9: to the wound, for want of a better expression, when
- 45:44Speaker 9: it came to the to when it came to the
- 45:46Speaker 9: nicest four becoming the dog dog of the nine eleven
- 45:48Speaker 9: one that nobody wanted, nobody wanted, whereas a nine ninety
- 45:51Speaker 9: three was a car that everybody loved from day one
- 45:54Speaker 9: and never lost. I don't know so much value, but yeah,
- 45:59Speaker 9: but it's just interesting to see how the nine score
- 46:01Speaker 9: is really has really turned around in that way in
- 46:03Speaker 9: the nine eleven world. And it's certainly one of my
- 46:05Speaker 9: absolute favorite models. I think it's a brilliant, brilliant car.
- 46:08Speaker 6: Isn't it crazy how car prices have gone through the
- 46:11Speaker 6: roof and and cars that were ship boxers are now
- 46:15Speaker 6: incredibly expensive. Does that change what you want to do
- 46:18Speaker 6: with the car? I mean previously, if if you know
- 46:21Speaker 6: a car that you bought was seven thousand pounds, would
- 46:24Speaker 6: you want to actually go out and drive that car?
- 46:27Speaker 8: Now?
- 46:27Speaker 6: If it's a fifty fifty thousand pound car, now, I mean,
- 46:30Speaker 6: does that change your frame of mind depending on what
- 46:32Speaker 6: it's actually worth on the market.
- 46:34Speaker 8: Yeah, it does. It does for certain people for sure.
- 46:37Speaker 8: I Mean there was a time which is a brilliant
- 46:42Speaker 8: circut in Belgium.
- 46:43Speaker 9: If you haven't heard of it, it's it's got to
- 46:45Speaker 9: be one of my favorite It's got to be my
- 46:46Speaker 9: favorite racetrack full stop.
- 46:48Speaker 8: It's just got.
- 46:48Speaker 9: Everything off Canber's gradient changes all the rest of it.
- 46:51Speaker 9: At one end of the track it can be raining,
- 46:53Speaker 9: the other end of it it's it's sunshine. And anyway,
- 46:58Speaker 9: we used to do like a pilgrimage over there for England,
- 47:00Speaker 9: driving straight over and we'd be we'd be a group
- 47:02Speaker 9: of I don't know, fifteen twenty nine six fours and
- 47:04Speaker 9: by the time all the guards from Europe had joined
- 47:06Speaker 9: us as well, we'd be like thirty forty. And there
- 47:08Speaker 9: was a time when there was like thirty forty nine
- 47:10Speaker 9: six fours all on circuit, you know, going up a
- 47:14Speaker 9: rouge which is which is, which is an amazing straight
- 47:17Speaker 9: and it'd be like watching skits was going up aslide,
- 47:21Speaker 9: you know, all these amazing colors and I mean.
- 47:23Speaker 8: Those were those were those that was.
- 47:25Speaker 9: There was a great time, that was really really great time.
- 47:28Speaker 9: It'd be two days on circuit and you just don't
- 47:30Speaker 9: see that anymore. You know, people are much more protective
- 47:32Speaker 9: of their cars because of the values, and I totally
- 47:35Speaker 9: get that, I absolutely get that, but it is it
- 47:37Speaker 9: is a bit of a shame because at the end
- 47:38Speaker 9: of the day, these cars are meant for driving, and
- 47:41Speaker 9: they are they they they should be used. But then again,
- 47:45Speaker 9: like I've said before, you know, I don't want to
- 47:46Speaker 9: pass opinion. You know what's called everybody has has a
- 47:49Speaker 9: different take on how to enjoy a car, And yeah,
- 47:53Speaker 9: my opinion is I just I just want to drive
- 47:56Speaker 9: endlessly and regardless of the value of the cars ensured,
- 47:58Speaker 9: the cars ensured and if something goes wrong, well you
- 48:01Speaker 9: know that's what insurance is there for.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Yeah, do you ever go outside the realm of the
- 48:06Speaker 2: nine to elevens? Like you know, I've got a soft
- 48:09Speaker 2: spot for say the nine two four for instance, talk
- 48:12Speaker 2: about a bad press that's kind of known as the
- 48:14Speaker 2: ugly Porsche, the poor man's Porsche, everything under the sun.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I just think there's something really cool and individual about it.
- 48:20Speaker 2: But yeah, do you ever sort of go outside the
- 48:23Speaker 2: nine to eleven?
- 48:24Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 48:25Speaker 9: Do I ever go outside the nine eleven? Well, I
- 48:27Speaker 9: guess the only Porsche that I've owned that's no. Nine
- 48:30Speaker 9: to eleven is that kN and then a couple of
- 48:32Speaker 9: three five sixes, and I've still got a beat or
- 48:35Speaker 9: knocking about. But no, not enough, not enough. I mean,
- 48:39Speaker 9: I'd love to get a hold of a nine two
- 48:40Speaker 9: eight or some point another I'd love to get hold
- 48:42Speaker 9: of like a first gen Kman and build like a
- 48:45Speaker 9: real hot rod out of that. I think that'd be
- 48:47Speaker 9: a lot of fun. But I think you know you're
- 48:50Speaker 9: there's there's some great Porsches out there, and I think
- 48:53Speaker 9: what's awesome about the band is about the brand is
- 48:56Speaker 9: that it's a very inclusive one. You know, some some
- 48:59Speaker 9: cars like Lamborghinis or Ferraris, if you're talking other exotic cars,
- 49:02Speaker 9: the point of entry is so expensive that it is
- 49:04Speaker 9: prohibitive for a lot of people.
- 49:06Speaker 8: Whereas with Porsches you get.
- 49:07Speaker 9: Everything from like a three ground boxer all the way
- 49:09Speaker 9: up to a multimillion pound collector cart. And I think
- 49:12Speaker 9: that's really really awesome because it equalizes. It becomes a
- 49:16Speaker 9: great equalizer, and you meet people from all different walks
- 49:19Speaker 9: of life.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Watch what Trevor does. He's going to put this pizza
- 49:22Speaker 2: on like it came up plate, chop it up with
- 49:24Speaker 2: a credit card and snuffer like Nadia Bartow. He's an
- 49:30Speaker 2: impression of Trevor gonna subway eating a foot long sub Next.
- 49:36Speaker 3: That's unbelievable. God, I come here for this? What do
- 49:38Speaker 3: I come here?
- 49:39Speaker 2: That's I've missed you. That's why you've got a beautiful watch.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Why do I come here with things with things nov?
- 49:46Speaker 3: I think I can talk about WHI things. Nova is
- 49:47Speaker 3: what it is. It's beautiful, but it's a smart watch
- 49:49Speaker 3: SOG and pasture monitoring and watch. Yeah, it's funny. I
- 49:54Speaker 3: was at Abudabi Airport a couple of weeks ago and
- 49:56Speaker 3: I was looking because I always look at watches because
- 49:58Speaker 3: I'm an idiot and have bought some. And I was like,
- 50:01Speaker 3: they didn't have a tag store. I'm a tag man,
- 50:02Speaker 3: but they had an Omega store that so I was
- 50:05Speaker 3: just entertaining the dude, mainly think I was going to
- 50:06Speaker 3: buy a watch. I was never gonna buy one, but
- 50:08Speaker 3: I looked at one and it's fedink look like this,
- 50:10Speaker 3: you know, metal band.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Blue, And I thought your gun for what were you
- 50:13Speaker 2: looking at?
- 50:14Speaker 3: It was? I don't know what it was, but I
- 50:15Speaker 3: was just rarer.
- 50:17Speaker 10: You look at that thing, Oh yeah, that would be
- 50:19Speaker 10: it would be like the for a Mega. It was
- 50:22Speaker 10: something like a Sea Master or something anyway, looked like that.
- 50:24Speaker 10: It was like seven grand euro And I get back
- 50:27Speaker 10: open this thing from with ings and I'm like, shit,
- 50:29Speaker 10: that looks like the watch I just looked at. I'm
- 50:30Speaker 10: very happy with it so you don't have to get
- 50:33Speaker 10: a full touch screen that's actually smart watch.
- 50:36Speaker 6: Because the thing I hate about the Apple Watch is
- 50:38Speaker 6: that it's an Apple watch and it's.
- 50:40Speaker 3: Not really Everyone knows you're wearing an Apple Watch. They
- 50:42Speaker 3: know you're in the Apple ecosystem, and let's be real,
- 50:45Speaker 3: most people don't do anything with this smart watch other
- 50:47Speaker 3: than look at the time. So this is a beautiful analog.
- 50:49Speaker 6: Watch or midway through a conversation fucking lifted up and
- 50:52Speaker 6: read a message in front of you, which I think
- 50:54Speaker 6: is the rudest fucking thing in the world.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Very rude. It's like when you go out to buy
- 50:57Speaker 2: a Porsche but instead you just end up with a
- 50:59Speaker 2: Coopra ball.
- 51:01Speaker 3: I would never go out and buy a push by
- 51:03Speaker 3: a Coopra. Yeah, I still love that car.
- 51:06Speaker 6: Quickly as well. Just on the Porsch thing, did you
- 51:08Speaker 6: see they announced pricing for the Tykhan GT.
- 51:11Speaker 2: The most boring car ever.
- 51:13Speaker 6: Yeah, but this is the one that's sorry, Yeah, the
- 51:15Speaker 6: nevergering record time it was I think it was something
- 51:20Speaker 6: like ten dollars less than a GT three, so it
- 51:22Speaker 6: was over four hundred thousand dollars, which is clinically insane.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, but people are clinically insane. You see what
- 51:29Speaker 3: cars are on the road. Yeah, I mean people are.
- 51:32Speaker 3: But hang on, do you not like the ty caon?
- 51:34Speaker 2: No? No, no, sorry, I had the MC in my head,
- 51:38Speaker 2: like the bloody ev that.
- 51:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's a bolk cellar.
- 51:41Speaker 2: That's terrible. I get it. I get the important of it.
- 51:43Speaker 2: I mean that's a car.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Then you don't think it will be as a lev
- 51:46Speaker 3: So I'm hoping.
- 51:47Speaker 6: My understanding is they're actually going to make a normal
- 51:49Speaker 6: looking version of because I think the one that they've
- 51:51Speaker 6: shown so far is like a Coupei looked, because it
- 51:55Speaker 6: just looks frumpy, right and strange, and it just climbed
- 51:58Speaker 6: in price like a McCann is to start with that
- 52:00Speaker 6: foce Inland deturbot like eighty or ninety grand. Yeah, this
- 52:03Speaker 6: is starting it well over one hundred grand out because
- 52:05Speaker 6: it's electric only.
- 52:05Speaker 3: I was going to so that's the electric parity problem.
- 52:08Speaker 6: Yeah, that's it.
- 52:09Speaker 3: So we've discussed before. It's still I reckon, it's still
- 52:11Speaker 3: at fifteen to twenty grand. The parody absolutely differential.
- 52:14Speaker 2: But it was meant to be.
- 52:15Speaker 6: I remember they were all spouting by twenty twenty five
- 52:17Speaker 6: that would be dead even.
- 52:19Speaker 3: But if you talk to some people like I remember
- 52:22Speaker 3: Luke Todd from BYD Who's you know. I like the bloke.
- 52:25Speaker 3: I like him.
- 52:26Speaker 2: I love He's story about him later, Yeah, I like
- 52:29Speaker 2: the guy.
- 52:30Speaker 3: But he would talk about I remember the Dolphin. When
- 52:33Speaker 3: he was talking about the Dolphin luck a year before
- 52:34Speaker 3: it coming, he goes, I've got one coming that's going
- 52:36Speaker 3: to be it's going to be parody, you know, No, no, no,
- 52:38Speaker 3: And I'm like, it's not. It's come out at forty grand.
- 52:41Speaker 3: I can get I can think of a nine thirty
- 52:43Speaker 3: for almost half that. We're not at parody, we're not
- 52:47Speaker 3: even closed.
- 52:47Speaker 2: But the ev world, I think they did pretty well
- 52:49Speaker 2: with that. I mean they took on the yes.
- 52:51Speaker 3: But do you do you really think that thirty thirty
- 52:54Speaker 3: eight thousand dollars is good value for such a small car.
- 52:58Speaker 6: And your average Australian at the moment that they are
- 53:00Speaker 6: literally struggling to pay their bills and you want to
- 53:03Speaker 6: go get a car that is the size of a
- 53:05Speaker 6: slight larger than a Yaris or something, and you want
- 53:08Speaker 6: them to pay forty grand for it if.
- 53:10Speaker 3: It was thirty two to thirty five, which is not
- 53:12Speaker 3: a big drop it would sell unbelievable numbers.
- 53:16Speaker 2: But look, the EV landscape is completely different when you're
- 53:19Speaker 2: talking prices. I think from what they've put out for
- 53:21Speaker 2: the price, I think it's pretty good.
- 53:22Speaker 3: No, great car. I would probably get it. I might
- 53:25Speaker 3: get it. I would get it over the MG four Yeah,
- 53:28Speaker 3: I think.
- 53:28Speaker 2: MG four you had to trick you on if you
- 53:30Speaker 2: line them up. The X to me was a real letdown.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 2: I hoped so much for that, and I was like, oh,
- 53:38Speaker 2: it's just a quick in a straight line.
- 53:41Speaker 6: Doesn't go very far because it has the small battery. Yeah,
- 53:44Speaker 6: quick for a brief picture.
- 53:46Speaker 2: It just doesn't feel the road. It was such a letdown.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Can I tell you about my week getting the I
- 53:52Speaker 2: got a Supra Oh yes, like a corporate of it.
- 53:56Speaker 3: Are you trying to take a piece out of my
- 53:57Speaker 3: Cooper again?
- 53:58Speaker 6: No?
- 53:58Speaker 2: Okay, Ah, anyway, Toyota Supra. So I got a Toyota
- 54:04Speaker 2: Supra twenty twenty four, literally dressed off. He used to
- 54:08Speaker 2: have one of those, sold it.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I fucking raved about. Oh this is amazing. Put
- 54:12Speaker 3: Japanese plates on it.
- 54:13Speaker 2: And everything and then get rid of it.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Unbelievables. I think even ambassadored for the plate people.
- 54:18Speaker 2: How embarrassing were you embarrassed? Japanese plates?
- 54:22Speaker 3: It doesn't ever that much money and just go through cars.
- 54:24Speaker 3: I don't want this one anymore.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Just imagine having a Japanese style plates. Did you go
- 54:28Speaker 2: to like cose of play conventions when you have that?
- 54:31Speaker 2: So anyway, I had the Supra.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Stop saying that and it's Coopra and Supra.
- 54:37Speaker 2: All right, what got fucking now?
- 54:40Speaker 3: Now?
- 54:41Speaker 2: So I had this car and it's literally just come
- 54:43Speaker 2: off the factory floor like it had done about eight cakes. Nice,
- 54:46Speaker 2: And they said, like the guy at the holding yard,
- 54:50Speaker 2: the MSR or whatever it is, you know where they
- 54:52Speaker 2: keep all these cars, He's like, Matt yep, he's as
- 54:54Speaker 2: rough as anything. He's actually he's like, listen, don't fuck
- 54:59Speaker 2: this up. All right. He's the sort of guy that
- 55:00Speaker 2: would look at my four year old and go, you
- 55:02Speaker 2: fucking give them me a lip? Ye, Like he's that guy.
- 55:06Speaker 2: So anyway, he's like, don't fuck this up, Like, please,
- 55:08Speaker 2: please don't fuck this one up. I haven't fucked that
- 55:11Speaker 2: many's but he's like, please, look, they need it for
- 55:15Speaker 2: a photo shoot. It's a proper toyo to photo shoot.
- 55:18Speaker 2: It's for a World Wild campaign. Please, Like the instructions are,
- 55:20Speaker 2: don't don't funk this up, no worries. Two days later,
- 55:22Speaker 2: I fucked this up. So the engines that you do.
- 55:26Speaker 2: The engine light came on. I drove it. That's what
- 55:28Speaker 2: I did. I just drove it and the engine light
- 55:31Speaker 2: came on. And by the way, I just don't think
- 55:32Speaker 2: it's the smartest idea to give someone like me or
- 55:35Speaker 2: anyone in this room, really a car that's done just
- 55:38Speaker 2: eight kilometers. Like you generally break these cars in properly
- 55:42Speaker 2: before you hand them over, especially to job. Not that
- 55:45Speaker 2: I'm pressed or anything, but like, especially if you're gonna
- 55:47Speaker 2: hand it to.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Me, you press people. How do you identify?
- 55:50Speaker 2: What's my pronoun? I sit down for a living and
- 55:53Speaker 2: talk into a stick. That's it.
- 55:55Speaker 3: What do you write on your immigration form? What do
- 55:57Speaker 3: you write on your immigration form?
- 55:58Speaker 6: Paul? It depends. Some times I do journalists, sometimes I
- 56:02Speaker 6: do engineers, sometimes I do entertainer. Just kidding out of it.
- 56:06Speaker 2: If you go to China, do you do you leave
- 56:09Speaker 2: out journalists? Absolutely?
- 56:10Speaker 6: Yeah, well really no, that depends who's asking.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Actually yeah, move on, No anyway, So what happened with this?
- 56:20Speaker 3: So you stopped on the side of the road here or.
- 56:22Speaker 2: No, no, no. But what happened was the warning on
- 56:25Speaker 2: it on the entertainment was the drive train is fucked.
- 56:29Speaker 2: This is going to lose power. So generally, if it's
- 56:32Speaker 2: like yeah, so when it goes into like limp mode,
- 56:35Speaker 2: if you like, that's bad because it means it's trying
- 56:37Speaker 2: to preserve itself. So I called them up and I'm like,
- 56:42Speaker 2: this isn't good. And I was planning to take it
- 56:44Speaker 2: to the Blue Mountains on the weekend and rip around.
- 56:47Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't do this now. I can't. Like
- 56:49Speaker 2: He's like, oh, you could ignore it, but I wouldn't. Definitely.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:53Speaker 2: So he's like, can you bring it back and I
- 56:55Speaker 2: can get you in a land cruise of three hundred nice?
- 56:59Speaker 2: Am I cool?
- 57:00Speaker 3: All right, that's a nice run of the mountain.
- 57:01Speaker 2: It's okay. So this was the land cruiser gr and
- 57:07Speaker 2: I got in and I'm like, this steering wheels a
- 57:10Speaker 2: bit shiny, like it just feels very kind of used.
- 57:14Speaker 2: I'm like, I thought to myself, I bet the person
- 57:16Speaker 2: before me was someone like Trevor Long just fucking put
- 57:20Speaker 2: bloody bits of donut everywhere and just like there'd be
- 57:23Speaker 2: crumbs on the.
- 57:24Speaker 10: Sea seeds probably had a bit of like geers like
- 57:28Speaker 10: it was really like, God, yeah, sure, so I don't.
- 57:31Speaker 3: Know how to discalate from donuts to there.
- 57:33Speaker 2: But anyway, well let's just say you put on how
- 57:39Speaker 2: many donuts are you? Are you like a three donut man?
- 57:42Speaker 2: How many can you? I wouldn't.
- 57:43Speaker 3: I wouldn't go less than six, donut king, I would.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Yours the donut king. I'm happy with that title. So
- 57:52Speaker 2: I caught Paul and I was like, you never guess
- 57:55Speaker 2: what I mean. I mean a land cruise of three
- 57:58Speaker 2: hundred gr and I think it's been used. And you said, what, Gordy,
- 58:03Speaker 2: I was in your I am in your car, in
- 58:05Speaker 2: your old car. Well you're in the same sort of car.
- 58:08Speaker 2: And I was like, this one has just done thirty
- 58:11Speaker 2: seven thousand kilometers and yours was the same. Yea, And
- 58:15Speaker 2: I've got to tell.
- 58:16Speaker 3: You, so you had two different ones or is this
- 58:18Speaker 3: the same time with.
- 58:18Speaker 6: The same one? I reckon They shold it down, but
- 58:21Speaker 6: I normally, like I know that people think this is
- 58:24Speaker 6: a stupid discussion to be having, but normally with press
- 58:26Speaker 6: cars so.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Very inside baseball, but people are fascinated by many times.
- 58:29Speaker 6: Look, I think most most of the time with these manufacturers,
- 58:32Speaker 6: they'll sell the cars at about ten thousand k's old.
- 58:34Speaker 6: And the reason they do that is you've got accelerated life.
- 58:37Speaker 6: When it gets given to a new media outlet, they
- 58:39Speaker 6: will do the same thing last one did, and it's
- 58:41Speaker 6: just you're accelerating the degradation of this car. Some companies,
- 58:45Speaker 6: and I think Toyt could even be one of them,
- 58:47Speaker 6: just destroy the cars once they're done for pre production cars. So,
- 58:51Speaker 6: but the strange thing here with this three hundred series,
- 58:53Speaker 6: it had clearly done a lot off writing because it
- 58:55Speaker 6: had scratches all down the side, all down the other side,
- 58:58Speaker 6: and I tell you this didn't feel great for thirty
- 59:01Speaker 6: seventh thound.
- 59:02Speaker 3: So that accelerated life thing. Do you think it's a
- 59:05Speaker 3: genuine look at a land Croags three hundred thirty eight
- 59:08Speaker 3: thousand k's or is it a bit more like it's
- 59:10Speaker 3: one hundred thousand cos yeah, I.
- 59:11Speaker 6: Think closer to one hundred thousand. And I'm hoping that
- 59:14Speaker 6: anyone that's listening to this contact at the Drivers Show
- 59:17Speaker 6: dot com today, you do you want a three hundred series,
- 59:20Speaker 6: Let us know what it's like to live with once
- 59:21Speaker 6: you've put some k's on it because this thing was creaking.
- 59:24Speaker 6: The suspension felt funny, there was a vibration from the engine.
- 59:29Speaker 6: I think all of these things didn't happen until Gordy
- 59:31Speaker 6: picked it up.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna say, to be honest, I didn't have
- 59:33Speaker 2: those issues. There was no stretch. We probably shouldn't claim
- 59:38Speaker 2: we had the same one. There's a good chance we
- 59:39Speaker 2: could have take separate.
- 59:40Speaker 6: Ones, but they both had over thirty thousand.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:43Speaker 8: You know.
- 59:43Speaker 2: One thing that stuck out to me was I quickly
- 59:46Speaker 2: realized the three hundred series in general, and this being
- 59:49Speaker 2: the gr so it's up a fair bit. It's probably
- 59:52Speaker 2: up about what fifty mil do you reckon than the standard?
- 59:55Speaker 2: Like the suspension's different than the standard, and also it's
- 59:58Speaker 2: got chunky at tires.
- 59:59Speaker 6: I think I don't think it's fifty mil. I think
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: it's only slightly higher bran.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: It just it just felt like it's obviously quite a
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: big car, and it's the easiest big car I've ever driven.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: It's such a fucking easy drive.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: Really, But I do see a lot of them around town.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: They are the new taxi.
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: Look.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't mind it. It was pretty good. My
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: dad had one and probably put about seventy kilometers on
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: it and sold it and he sold it off it.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: I can't really comment on it because what he did
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: was he sold it to a company called the Night
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: h Q, which is a company I now work for.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: And they're like those car giveaway things.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: You know, and don't get me started.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I won't get you started. Can you please?
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Why do you up? Because it's called money? Trevor?
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: All right, I thought you worked in Rainy. I'm so confused.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Anyway, whatever, good on men. The face, I'm the pretty
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: fact I've replaced by.
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: You know, when there's people standing at the desk, and
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: then under the desk there's also people that's just Gordy's
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: under the very spacious mouth.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Wow, Jesus, look at you two. Me getting a bit
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: of stuff on the side and your rush in eyes,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: your primarily aware of this. Sold it to this company
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: and then they gave it away. Yeah yeah, they modified
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: the ship out of it and gave it away. It's
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: But yeah, I'm interested. If you do own one, let
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: us know what it's like. And the interesting thing as
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: well is that that platform will be or is the
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: platform for the new Lexus cheeks and will be the
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: new Prato as well.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: You've looked at that new Prata, haven't you. Yeah, Like
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: it's it's a very different look.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Great Larree hundred is a really nice evolution of the
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: land Cruiser, right, But the new Prato is it's like
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: where Key has gone. It's just it's radical.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: For radicals, where you think it's where Lexus needed to go.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Though it definitely now like lex has had this kind
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: of old man brand.
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: Toyota I think is still a bit sort of straight. Yes,
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: I think this car.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: Is very because Lexus has always had a little bit
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: of flare on the side. They've had a few sports
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: cars and different things that have something very different.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: I've had some great sports yeah.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: Absolutely so look wise, but Toyota has been straight down
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: the line, very consistent, and then you bring in this
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: new Prato and it's, man, it's a strange looking thing.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: I like it.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: I like it a lot, but I think for the
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: average parto owner it's vastly different and therefore kind of
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: an interesting prospect.
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: I think the biggest issue they're going to have is
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: it's got to carry over two point eight liter four
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: cylinder diesel, so it's getting mild, very mild hybrid technology,
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: but five hundred new meters on a vehicle that is
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: going to be heavier because it's on a much bigger
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: platform now, I think is probably going to hold them back.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: So it increase the towing capacity as well. So now
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: they've gone from three to three and a half, you're
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: going to be towing an extra five hundred kilos in
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: a heavier car with the same engine.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: I just think that's really through it.
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: Well, yeah, so they do have that, they are working
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: on a hybrid. The problem they've got is though, that
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: they can't stick a V six desel in it because
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: you're going to cannibalize three hundred series. Can't stick a
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: V six petrol because you get to cannibalized GX and globally.
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: They don't have any other engine variance aside from the
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: hybrid bro you can actually put in there. So the
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: screw sime one. It'll be an interesting one and it'll
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: be more expensive. I reckon ten to fifteen.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: I was going to say, it just looks like it's
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: going to be more expensive than where Prato's about, and
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: I think most Prato, a lot of Prato owners to generalize.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: You know, are on a cycle.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: They're on like a five year, six year, but everyone
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: purchase least one a situation and they're ready for the
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: new one percent and if it's ten grand more, yep,
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: that's a big hit.
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: And I know some people that have actually just gone
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: ahead and renewed Prato now ahead of the new one
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: coming because they don't want to change.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: They're right, they.
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: Don't want to have the first of something new. So
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: they're funny those guys.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: My brother waited like nearly two years for his Prato.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: He got it last Christmas, and I said to him,
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: hold off, like there's one coming. It looks fantastic. Hold
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Off is like, nah, I'm done. I'm done with waiting.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: I said, well, put your name the way that you
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: got fucked around, make sure your name is on the
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: top of the list for the new one because it
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: looks great. And we didn't have too many details about
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: the engine and stuff like that back then, but I
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: was like, it looks good and I didn't think it
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: would be. I think it feels a bit pricey for
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: what it is, but let's see.
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: What they do with it.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: You're buying into.
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: It's a bit like buying a Tesla, right, you're getting
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: access to the supercharger network. I think when you buy
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: a Toyota, you know that there is a dealer everywhere.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: So if you're going to drive regionally, something shits itself,
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: you just go there. And I think if you're going
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: to do a long distance drive as well around Australia,
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: but the map thing you want to be doing it
- 1:04:28Speaker 6: a toy Yeah.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: The question without noticing Paul, where are we at with
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: car ordered delays? Because I had this random conversation with
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: a guy at dinner the other night where at like
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: a group dinner, like ten or fifteen people, and he
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: was talking about he'd ordered Hyundai I twenty n ah,
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: yes in June twenty twenty two. Whoa June twenty twenty two,
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: And he got some contact from the deal today because
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: he thought it was coming this month, got pushed out
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: to April, and just in the course of three days
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: it's now at May or June. And I'm like, well,
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: that doesn't mean his sense to me, I just feel
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: like there's something weird there. Whether it's just going no,
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: we'll move that guy down then, lest we'll give this guy.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: One I don't know is there a bit of that
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: goes on.
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: Still, but I know that I twenty and they basically
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: a lot of the end cars had very strange production issues.
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: They had changes in production location, so I think they're
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: their own separate little beast. Toyota still has problems. So
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: around midyear they reckon they're going to be down to
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: a three to six month wait on most of their
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: cars unless it's a special order car like a LEXISLC
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: or something like that. But most other brands, you're seeing
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: it all over TV now. They are advertising and advertising
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: and advertising, and I think that is the first telltale sign.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: That the car is coming.
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: Drive over the West Gate Bridge and you look at
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: the holding yard. It is full of cars, and I think,
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: what's happened with these car companies. They've had this period
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: where they're just ordering as much as they can. Now
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: the manufacturers are saying, hey, you have got thousands of
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: cars coming figure out how to sell them. You don't
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: have a choice in the matter. And it's going to
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: complicate things next year with this absolute nonsense tax, bullshit tax,
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: because that is going to really upset the balance. And
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: Toyota has come out and said that they will not
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: pay fines to other car companies to buy credits, they
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: will just pay them to the government. Because Tesla's business
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: model is great.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Each year in the US, don't they.
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: In the US, it's about two billion dollars a year
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: that they earn as credits that other manufacturers buy from them.
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: In Australia they're set to earn two hundred million dollars
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: over the course of the year with other manufacturers buying credits.
- 1:06:29Speaker 6: And it was funny in Germany, the factory that they
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: built was actually mainly funded by Stilantis, who had to
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: buy all these credits off. Tesla has paid for Tesla
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: to have a new factory in Germany.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: So if all the car companies do what Toyota do
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: and say we're going to pay the government instead of
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: the other brands, do the other brands get nothing?
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: I don't think so, because it's up to you. It's
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: a perfect trading market. And the issue you've got with
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: Tesla as well. They came out and said the other
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: day they're leaving the FCAI, which is the sort of
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: industry body that represents all, don't they absolutely, And they've
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: left it because the FCAI is parroting the line that
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: they need exemptions of certain classes of vehicles and the
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: FCAI is very much led by Toyota and so the
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: FCAI is trying to rebut this Tesla's doing this, and
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: the reason they're doing it is because it was actually
- 1:07:15Speaker 6: on the Today Show someone had fed a producer numbers
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: and I think it was from the FCI where they
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: claimed Model Y would be fifteen grand cheaper. Oh wow,
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: Tesla cractic because like, hold on, you're advertising everywhere that
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: a Model Y is going to be fifteen grand cheaper
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: because they've assumed that Tesla's going to drop the price
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: by fifteen grand. It's like, no, no, they do that pocket
- 1:07:34Speaker 6: the fifteen grand because why would you? And what they're
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: experiencing I suspect because they never come out with statements
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: unless it's from Musk. So the Australian manager, whoever the
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: fuck he is, has come out with a written statement
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: that he sent to media saying they're pulling out because
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: they must have seen a sales decline by people going
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: well hold.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: On, oh, because they think the price is going to fluctuate.
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: So Master Jan and the reason that the price is
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: going to fluctuate for people that don't understand. This is
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: the government is basically saying that if your average fleet
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: is above a certain emissions level, we're going to hit
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: you with a fee that you can either buy credits
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: from other brands or get fined for.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Can I just say, this whole system, looking outside in
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: feels so fucking flawed because if it's all about buying credit,
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: or if you can get away with buying credits and
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: doing this, the whole point of it is to meet
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: admissions targets exactly. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: It's like environment It's like the carbon tax stuff. It's like,
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: rather than cutting your emissions and doing good for the environment,
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: just buy some credits.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and we'll find you and we'll get money for that.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: But oh yeah, yeah, yeah, we're doing this for emissions targets.
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: Like the longer term, the plan is to say, well,
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: if you want to stop getting fined, you need to
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: bring in better stuff. But therein lies the problem. Someone
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: like Toyota, who sells.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: By the way, I thought personally, when I looked at
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: it first and foremost, I thought toder would be okay
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: because of the amount of hybrids they sell.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: That's exactly what I thought.
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: But it's offset by the amount of land cruise O
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: pratos land cruises and high luxes. The problem is though
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: that there is I don't think anyone in this world
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: wants the world to end for climate to go bad.
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: No one wants that. So if you're out there driving
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: around Australia telling a caravan, you don't want the world
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: to end. But also you don't want to be driving
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: an electric car that's going to get one hundred k's
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: up the road and you're going to need a charge.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: If you're a trade you don't have outside of that
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: OLDV and electric uit that you can buy. So what's
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: going at a premium.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: And doesn't it's an LDV.
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: I mean, there's just all of these problems with the
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: equation and they keep talking about how they want to
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: compare it to the US. The US actually has an
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: exemption for footprints, so the bigger the vehicle, the less
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: it is required to have alignment with the missions. Have
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: a lot of big VI, which is the top three
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: best selling cars in the States, of the F series
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: Ram and the Silverada. So I think that Australia needs
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: to get real understand that people buy the cars they
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: do for whatever reasons they do. Yes, you have an
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: element of people who buy them to just stuff around in.
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: But if you are buying it because you have no alternative,
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: Toyota is going to pass the cost onto you. And
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: if you're a trade, extra costs they're paying for their
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: ut is going to go to you when they come
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: to do something in your house.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: And also where's the choice? Like it feels so fucking
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: draconian to say, you can't really buy the car you
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: want if you want a big car. No, no, no,
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm telling me what to do? Yeah?
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: I come from Victoria where for two years we were told.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: What to do and where to go.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: People are sick of it. Hey, he's paying the price
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: now you can't get into the Portzy golf club. Cut
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: him some slack.
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: I caught up with Pricey the other day and I said, mate,
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: hold up that sorry, just pick up that name.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: He just drunk. I did not let him in under
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: any him in.
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: I said, don't worry, we're not letting.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: Hey. You know, when you make some terrible decisions in
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: your life, I've made a few. Obviously, most of them
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: I've asked to kindly like go through the window. For
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: most of them, you had to text them to delete
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: the video. G Yeah, yes, but I just don't think
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: anything could quite stack up as badly as the mistake
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: of buying an EV nine. And that's exactly what you're doing.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: A mistakes. O. Holy fuck me in the dick.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: I'm so excited.
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: I actually think is that it's a fantastic looking car.
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: But Gordy the guy that is wearing fucking glasses and
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: can't actually see anything.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Oh I know. The first thing I said when I
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: posted about it was this is a polarizing car, no doubt,
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: no doubt, it's polarizing, but you got it. Like my
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: situation is this. I got three kids, the teenagers. We
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: own a Key Carnival. It's four years old. And like
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: I would never I didn't even think I was buying
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: a new car this year, but I'd had the even nine.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: I had the air in the earth over like two
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: different weeks in late January maybe, And so the wife
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: saw it in the driver. She doesn't look at press cars,
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: doesn't drive them, won't go near them, but she'd seen
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: it in the driver. And you know, friends with Blake
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: with a Prido come around, looked at it, and you know,
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: people talk about the cars and driveway. And then I
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: get a call from the dude that does my fine
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: and it goes the carnival's up and I went, what
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: do you mean? Like, what do you mean up? He goes,
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: the lease is finished? You got to pay it out
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: or what.
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: Are you going to do?
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: I went, oh shit, I had no idea.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Get home, I say to the wife, we've got to
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: get a new Carnival. Okay, cool cool. I go to
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: a key deal with in my head I want to
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: trade it in. I want to get a new Carnival.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Like I'm there to fucking buy and this is the
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: same fucking dealership that I tried to buy the carnival
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: from originally but wouldn't give me a quote. Irrelevant. So
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: I walk in. I go to this bike mate, I
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: want to buy a new Carnival twelve month wait mate,
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: I went on a carnival.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: He goes, yep.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: I went okay, and that was it? Like I'm like,
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: is that it? And he goes. I said, can I
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: get a value on mine? Like a trade in value?
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: He goes, you know he does. He opens up a
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: fucking website and looks through like carsa like a red
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: book and I'm like, mate, I could do this at hard.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: And here's a thing, there's two even nines in the
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: show two in the show room. He doesn't even think
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: to say, oh, you've got a family, like, doesn't even
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: try to sell me a car. Right, So I have
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: this conversation with Fennick on our podcast, just just ranting
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: and raving. Bloke emails me, goes, mate, just saying, you know,
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: I work for such and such. Happy to help you
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: out if you do decide to go down there. No,
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: And so I said, mate, happy to have a look
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: at the price. Because then I got back to the
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: wife and she goes, should we be getting a carnival
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: or should we get that environmental thing. I was pretty
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: pretty forward thinking on the on the environmental front. We're
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: recycling every fucking thing in the house. We've got bins
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: for everything. And I went, that's basically green light from
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: my wife by the EV nine right. So I work
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: real hard on the numbers. I get it down to
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: basically the same price because the carnivals are actually a
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: pretty good trade right now. So I do it over
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: five years instead of four or whatever, and I get
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: down to the same price. And mate, I've fucking I've
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: got my deposit down on even nine and it arrives
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: this week, Like it happened real quick.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: What colour did you get?
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: Black? Okay, because we've got black black, Carnival black. Yeah,
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: it was on a boat. There may have been a
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: phone call, mate, but yeah it was.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: It was on us. Yeah, I am no, who are
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: you travel along?
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: I mean someone else got a phone call that said
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: your EV nine Earth is delayed by two months. But
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: mine arrived and I'm picking up on Thursday. And so
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I did, like I had a bit of a panic
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: after kind of of signing paperwork and stuff, being likeuck,
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: have I done the right thing here? And it is
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: polarizing to look at. But I got another press car
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: and I told her why she has to drive it
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: because she just went up to the park and back
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: and she she was she never driven, like she hasn't
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: driven the Coop ye, right, she's never driven it. So
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: she thought it was weird and heavy, but it was fine.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: And then I got one a couple of weeks ago
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: to drive for the last time to my mum's place,
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: which is a six hour drive. Right, So I thought,
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: I've got my got family in the country and you
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: charge that up and you took for I had a
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: great bin, I had a great drive. I loved it
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: on the windy bits, on the stretches, every it was
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: just great. So I went, I'm really happy. This is
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: the car man. It's a great car. It really is.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: It's expensive.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Here's it.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Look it's a great car.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: It is. It is really pulverizing right to look at
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: your right to me, I was like, that is and
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: I and this isn't adyss with ka. I fucking love
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: ke I had a stinger. I love Keay is great.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: I love it care But it was just I looked
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: at this and I thought, not a great looking car.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: But my main thing was, it's such a specific audience
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: that would buy this one. An EV A big EV
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: is it.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Seven seats, seven.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Seat EV roughly one hundred and ten thousand dollars. Not
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: a cheap car. So you're rolling around in quite a
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: luxurious beat. It's a business, it's along, it is, but
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: support I thought to myself, there's such a specific audience
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: with this, and you are that.
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: No, I don't expect they're going to sell in huge numbers,
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: but I don't think they do either. I think this
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: is a This is a flagship vehicle for them. It's
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: a vehicle that's like, let's be real, this is the
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: biggest electric car you can buy in Australia. And if
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: I was in America, I'd be buying a Rivian like
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: I'd be buying something like that because I think it's
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: awesome to have that. It's little for my liking. But see,
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: in a look sense, I still think the Model Why
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: is the fucking ugliest cart on the road today. And
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: if I see another fucking white one, like, it's just
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: everywhere right, and it's you know, it's worse.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: This is the the worst thing about having a car
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: that changes. It's going to look even worse when they
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: bring up the update later this year because it's not
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: the new test Model three looks fucking beautiful compete to
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: the old one. Imagine how good the Why is gonna
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: look at all these thousands of people got the Model
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Y's I got to say.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: That, No wonder people wrap those though, you know they
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: come in such a limited amount.
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: It is weird how many people do that, isn't it.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: I've got one near us. It's like a rainbow, you know,
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: that oil slick style that looks different.
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: In Tears Model three. Well, I was actually going to say,
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: I like the EV nine. We were just discussing off
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: air that I thought the GC line was just a
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: bit much. The fucking digital mirrors.
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: I cannot stand driving in Genesis with them now. And
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: it's like, why can't they just put the screens, yes,
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: up where you would normally look at a mirror.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Did you have you got remotely in use to those?
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: Because I found by the end of it, I was like,
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: I get it. They kind of like the mirrors do.
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: Tech wise, they do some pretty incredible more and all that.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: I get it. I get it too, right, But I still,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: honestly for a mirror, it.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Doesn't I don't think no, But I don't think it's
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: anything wrong with the technology.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: I think it's the placement of the screens.
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: Howt is the same when you look out the windows,
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: like I shouldn't be able to see the fucking camera.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: I should exactly put the screen up there so it's
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: covering it just a little bit of the window.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: It's no sense, right, the fact that you can see
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: the camera.
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: They've done it like, oh, we don't want to block
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: the camera.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: It's like put the screen up to see.
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: I don't like audio. I don't like digital review mirrors either.
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: You know what, they come in handy if you've got
- 1:17:24Speaker 6: a seven seater because yeah, you can see through seven seats,
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: or a car that has a tiny fucking rear window.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: Those big black cars. If you get transported to the
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: airport in you know the bit.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, but you're young and healthy, your eyes are good.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: So actually I don't think that my because I wear
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: glasses for reading, I actually don't think I can focus
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: properly on the digit review mirror. When when you look
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: at the mirror weirdly, you are focusing in the distance.
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: That's yeah.
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: But when the mirror is here and it's a screen.
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: You're focusing on that, I don't think it as well.
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: But my issue with those digital side mirrors is perspective
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: because if you're parking, like where I do, up against
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: a wall, I use my head to move around to
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: get different angles on the mirror. When you do that
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: on a digital side mirror angles it doesn't move at all.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Now you think, aren't they a little bit more kind
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: of wide angle?
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Isn't there a bit more.
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: You just yeah, in low light especially, you just don't
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: know what yeah, low light is bad. Yeah, I think
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: Evan one's great. And you do you think, I'm ben sive.
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: Do you think, like seriously, the one you've gone for
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: is the best, because to me, the top speck was
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: just a bit much. It doesn't have much.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: Range from the air, just doesn't have enough range for me.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: Where you've landed is perfect. And the ride's better as well, Like,
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: it is actually quite nice, and.
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: The fact that it doesn't have while to have a
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: car play is the most disgraceful thing in history given
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: in the.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: US it does.
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: But you know what the fuck's going from? That will
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: be a software update. Well, we just tested the ConA Electric.
- 1:18:46Speaker 6: It actually came and it's got the same same yainment
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: system versions and stuff. It actually came with a software
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: update that added wireless car play while we had the car.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: They're starting really yeah, da are starting to roll out really.
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: The same Yeah, entertainment system. Firmware supports it. It's just
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: like sorry, the hardware supports of the firm where they
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: need right. Yes, No, I think it's I think it's
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: a good choice. A question just on the podcast as well,
- 1:19:12Speaker 6: your new podcast, tell us first the name of it,
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: so in anyone with.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Two bogs talking electric cars, really really vague thinking. But
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: we've been doing two bugs talking text Stephen Fennick and
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: I for thirteen years. And so when we're going to
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: do EV's because he's got one, I've got one.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: We talk about him.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: All the time, we may as well, right, Bens Right,
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: he's in the Equeq. He owned a model S for
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: Yes for five years and then they stopped making them
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: here for left right hand dright, so he just went
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: fuck you and brought the Mercedes. I've got the Cooper
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: and so we started that. So yeah, it's just yeah,
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: it's just we're trying to go to the lowest common
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: denomina in terms of it's not for it's not really
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: for ev owner, it's for people that want to know more,
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: want to learn more, want to understand more. You know,
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: you can kind of jump in and hear stuff.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: That's a smart idea because I think that that's this
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: is now the time to do it. People are starting
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: to really like pricked their heads out.
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: I don't think we're late. I think we're I think
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: we're at the right point. I think it's a tipping
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: point for people to go. I know, i'd like We
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: talked last week to a bloke from the Strata Committee
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: strata owners about EV's ownership. He had a really positive
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: take on EV's and fire safety. I'm like, okay, so
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: that was interesting. So now I'm going to get fire
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: department on and go what can you tell me your
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: side of the story, because I think it's important to
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: hear the whole argument about stuff. Plus, I like Phenick
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: doesn't leave the city. It was barely drives over the
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: fucking bridge to come to my studio to do the show.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: But I leave the city. I've done a lot of
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: driving and charging. I took the ford E Transit van
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: to my mum's at Walker. It was the fucking hardest
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: thing I've ever done because on highway it's the least
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: efficient highway drive and EV I've ever seen it, so
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: thirty per hundred and man fuck, I was so nervous
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: about making it there. And I was at scone at
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: the one n I may fifty kler what charger and
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: I had to go to one hundred. I had to
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: go to at least ninety two to get enough range
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: to get to Tamworth. Poor bloke in a B turns
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: up well five minutes and I'm like, mate, I'm going
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: to be here in chat for a fucking hour.
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: Buddy good.
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: One was half of it sticking out as well, because
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: it's got the charging thing at the front.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Now that's the other thing I didn't get.
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: It's like it's a big workman. And then if you
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: go to like a shopping center car park, you're blocking
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: half the rock.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Because the thing is sticking in there.
- 1:21:17Speaker 6: But one topic, actually two topics. We rolled out electric
- 1:21:21Speaker 6: vehicle charging in our old building. I was the OC
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: manager there and it was expensive, and funnily enough, one
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: of the guys that was fucking jumping up and down
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: about this constantly while we were getting a consultant to
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: work on the plans and everything didn't end up fucking
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: getting it, even though he bought a Tesla and didn't
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: think about charging until he got at home. We spent
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: a year installing all this stuff, and he didn't end
- 1:21:44Speaker 6: up putting in because he thought it was too expensive.
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: And he goes, oh, that's too much, I can get it.
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: Installed for this. I said, hold on, fucking listen to me.
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: I'm not I don't need an electrician to come and
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: plug it up for you. We have a load manager
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: so that when it gets to summer and there's fucking
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: fifty people trying to charge their car, that it can
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: load shad. So we actually have electricity, yes, and we
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: don't need you the selfish guy who wants to just plug.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: Up through your killer one.
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: Imagine if there're fifty of you selfish guys, we wouldn't
- 1:22:11Speaker 6: have any electricity. So it's it's those types of people
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: who are tight asses that don't want to then spend
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: because it is more expensive than doing it at home.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: You can't just put two grand war box on. You've
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: got to do like you'd be that guy that we saying.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd be that guy. No, it's a fair point.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: Like if he doesn't really want to say the difference
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: is the plug in sort of mount that you've got
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: to get. Say he's got to spend like four grand.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: I don't know too much about the setup, but say
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: he's going to spend four grand as opposed to what
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: do you have to pay this strata people.
- 1:22:41Speaker 6: Look, I'll find the number. But it was it was
- 1:22:44Speaker 6: not four grand. It was like, let's call it eighteen
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: hundred bucks. And he thought he could get it for
- 1:22:49Speaker 6: five hundred so he's winging a.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Third of Yeah.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: We we talked again before we came on air about
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: the kind of community that is EV owners, especially on Facebook,
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: and I had to leave a couple of book groups
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: because I saw too many people sending links to like
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: Alley Express and all this to buy fucking charges and shits.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: And I'm thinking that is not author that is not
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: regulated in Australia. That's the ship that's going to bring
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: this whole industry down is dodgy chargers. And the problem
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: is not enough cars come with cables. Isn't it weird
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: that you buy an EV when Hooper came with the
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: public charging style you know, Type two to Type two
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: not we not a home granny charger. The key I
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: think comes with a granny charger, which I think all
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: cars should come with, plug it in at home into
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: a PowerPoint. But you get people who buy a you know,
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: a charger at home. I don't want to say war
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: Box because that's brand. That's what I've got. The awesome
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: They buy charger, they get installed at home and it
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: doesn't have a cable on it, so you buy then
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: a cable. Now, the problem is if they buy a
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: cheap shit cable that isn't rated for the for the
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: power they're outputting. That is going to be the weak
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: link in the chain. It's not the carvet catchers fight,
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: it's it's barely the electricity in the home. It's the
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: charger or the fucking cable.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: And by the way, you tell someone who's pretty sort
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: of set in their ways and an EV is a
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: big thing for them, Like I look at my old
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: man and he was like talking about getting a Model three.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: At one point I was like, Eh, don't do it,
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: don't do it, don't do it. But I guarantee he'd
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: be this sort of person that'd be like, ah, look,
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: I'll just fucking go on the internet without telling anyone
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: to buy something off Amazon.
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: You spent like sixty grand on a car, and then
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: you go on that Like I say, I paid eighteen
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: hundred bucks for my war box. I think you get
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: him a bit cheaper. But my mine's got no Wi
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Fi and all that kind of cool control, And I
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: know I could have got something. I think Tesla had
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: him for like seventy fifty or something. Right, that's the
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: minimum I spend. If you're spending lesson the Tesla charger,
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: what the fuck is going on?
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: And is it doing it? It's like and you know
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: the other thing as well, that a topic for you
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: your podcast, which I'm about to come up to now,
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: is what happens at the end of a novated least
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: because our model, why we got that on a novated
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: lease to take advantage of the FBT exemption. Right, my
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: two years is coming up in August, and I've got
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: the balloon payment of forty three and currently the cars
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: are listed second.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: Hand trade money for about fifty five.
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: So at the moment, great, but what's going to happen
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: year three when you've got everyone who went for a
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: three year at least instead of two and the resale
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: values of these teslas are crashing at the moment.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: The international stuff or because so many were.
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: Born and a lot were used for Uber for all
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: this sort of stuff, so they're all just ditching them.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: The battery, shape, degeneration and all that.
- 1:25:27Speaker 6: And also on top of that, you've got when you
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: take advantage of the FBT exemption, you've already saved X
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: thousand dollars. You haven't paid GST upfront either, so you're
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: going to dump it for whatever the balloon is and
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: the balloon is less than market value. So you're going
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: to see in at the two year mark, which I'm
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: at in August, and at the three year mark the
- 1:25:44Speaker 6: following year, which is when they first dropped Model Y,
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: you're going to see the prices of these drops. So
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: I'd be curious to know for anyone else that's in
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: that situation what they're doing, whether they just trade it
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: in for another one and keep the cycle going, and
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: if they do what happens with the secondhand one. Do
- 1:25:59Speaker 6: they just for a cheap amount and then you bring
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: the price of everyone who didn't get the FBT except
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: Novade at least set up.
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: So do you when the government regulation thing to him
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: it earlier came on about a month or two ago,
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Hadley rang me and want to be on here to
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: talk to try and explain it to people, right yep,
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: in Layman's terms. And he's pretty relaxed with me and
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: doesn't try and push things too hard.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: So I was.
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: I had him on board broadly the ev train, right,
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: which is a big milestone, and he was like, yes,
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: but what about the battery. So now I want to
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: ask you this because I thought about it. I thought
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: in five years from now, you're going to go to
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: car sales. You're going to look at cars, and right
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: now you look at a Keyer Carnival twenty twenty model
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: and it's got one hundred thousand k's or forty thousand
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: k's or you know, that's pretty much your measure of
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: the difference. Do you think we'll get to a point
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: where you list a car with battery health? Yeah, battery
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: health like maximum range.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: People already you go into marketplace or something, people already
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: take photos of, say if they're selling a Tesla, already
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: take photos of the battery health stuff on the streets,
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: because I think that's the measure uptop as well.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: You know they'll do that because surely the measure of
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: one Tesla's value, one electric cars value versus another one
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: of the exact same age and condition is how good
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: is the battery? So essentially what is the remaining range?
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: Because that that's going to be the big difference between
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: two cars, isn't it?
- 1:27:19Speaker 6: And that's going to be an industry as well. We
- 1:27:21Speaker 6: met this company at where was it, I think it
- 1:27:24Speaker 6: was at the Munich Motor Show, and they were a
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: startup Silicon Valley startup and they basically were selling this
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: technology to car companies to be able to do remote
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: field diagnoses of their vehicles batteries, but very in depth.
- 1:27:37Speaker 6: I think that is going to be the next big
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: industry where you can get an OBD portal or an
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: Apple or something that will allow you to diagnose a
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: battery and test sell integrity so that when you sell
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: a car, you can have a certified.
- 1:27:47Speaker 10: Like the old days, you get there to come along
- 1:27:49Speaker 10: and do a check of the car, say like dial
- 1:27:52Speaker 10: in and kind of like cheat the system like the
- 1:27:53Speaker 10: old days when they'd like wind the.
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: I would want that because there is a big difference
- 1:27:59Speaker 6: between a car that is constantly DC fast charged and
- 1:28:02Speaker 6: a car that is slow charged. Yes, and there's also
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: a difference between a sort of a typical lithium ion
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: battery and an LFP battery.
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: So someone who bothered to put the eighty percent limit
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: on who didn't and all those kind of things. If
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: I was someone who had really good financial backing on
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: my website, I'd be launching like an ev car sales,
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: you know, with a different name obviously, because you don't
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: want legal weathers, but no genuine beam sh raise it
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: with our boards because I think that. I think we've
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: got a trading post style marketplaces happen now. But that's
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: old school, right. The new school is going to be
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: a people just searching for an EV, especially with the
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: flood of cars that are going to hit the marketers
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: you've identified and make it for the buyer. So you
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: can't list your car unless you've shown evidence of its
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: current range at eighty or one hundred percent, you know,
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: those kind of things, so that you're really showing the
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: value of the core technology of the car, not the
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: fact that it's shiny and you've looked after the seats.
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: What is the drive train of this car?
- 1:29:01Speaker 6: Woractly? Yeah, it's it's really fascinating. And I think I
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: just tested the Toyle to BZ four X.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: What the fuck is with that name? It's it is
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: a stupid name. It's like it's been named after one
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: of Elon Musk's kids. That's right, the.
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: One is actually funny from you, very good.
- 1:29:18Speaker 6: But yeah, that that car is I think a car
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: that's misunderstood by a lot of people.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: A lot of people are.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: Complaining about how shit is it is as an EV
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: and that sort of stuff. But to me, that is
- 1:29:26Speaker 6: a car that if you drive a camera right now,
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: you can go drive that and it's the same. It's
- 1:29:30Speaker 6: got buttons for everything. Everything is foreign and weird. There's
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: no weird ship you have to do. It just drives.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: That's the EV owner hatred thing. It's like Tesla owners
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: who are like, what do you need buttons for?
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: Mate?
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: I love reaching, Like in the EV nine, I know
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: that there's within my reach. There's a little toggle that
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: I go up for warmer, down for cool, like I
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: just want that.
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: People same movements to your wife.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: Some people after Like you get in a Toyota, you
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: want it to be to Let's be real Toyota owners,
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: our owners. They're so unlikely to buy something else we've
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: talked I think I've talked about with you guys before.
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: They are so unlikely to buy from a Corolla to
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: an I thirty, despite the fact that they're better cars.
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: Probably it's a toil.
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: If they want to be an EV that's probably the
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: car to gain.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I reckon.
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: They will actually sold quite a few of them, so
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: I'll be carefus see how it goes.
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: I'll tell you what.
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: The fucking air conditioner was amazing. We had three hot
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: days in Melbourne, and every ev I get into, the
- 1:30:23Speaker 6: air conditioner leaves you sweating, not sweating, but just not
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: super comfortable, right, especially a Tesla with a fucking glass roof, like.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Itating, I saw you bring something like that up before
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: I finally someone gets it, those glass roos thing.
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: I was freezing and it was like forty degrees outside.
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: The air conditioning is like straight out of a highlux
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: It is fantastic.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: What's your number?
- 1:30:45Speaker 6: Well, in a normal car, it's twenty two. In this
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: it was twenty three because it was at twenty two.
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: I was actually getting.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: Like twenty three. Man, he got a bit of a showed.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: People walk into my studio and it's literally a fridge,
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: like I keep that at yeah, unlike this is like
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: a bloody Croatian sauna.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: That's because they turned their conditioning off in this building.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: When do you know what? I noticed that there is
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: actually an air cord something. I was just really not
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: fun doing recycling from the fan of the hard drive.
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: But yeah, my studio, I keep it like nineteen degrees.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Like you walk in there, it is a proper fridge.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Everyone's like, how can you be in here for six hours?
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: This is this is how it's got to.
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: Be your way of deterring people from coming in as.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: Me fresh like a piece of old food speaking which hanging.
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: In the window like a Christmas.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: Fat on this slice of pizza? Would you travel? I
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: need it warmed up.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: It won't be warm'll be sloppy.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: That's for sure. Does anyone listen to this? This is
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: a cheesy crust.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: Had a sponsor.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: By the way, how's your manscape going? Have you used?
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: So?
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: We had a Kadogan on the show again and.
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: Did you hammer him for the manscape stuff?
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: We gifted him the merch last time and he returned
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: the favor and gifted us some manscaping products. So my
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: bask at work, I have balled the odorantup, palls on
- 1:32:09Speaker 6: the ball the odorant?
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: Is that a real thing? That man has worked out
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: how to nail a YouTube clickbait?
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: But it's it's he actually said, he knows his audience.
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: That's why he has bet roll of women frolicking around.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: He knows just hit the hit the hit the ev stuff.
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: He knows they hate it, so bring it on.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: He is really just what are you doing?
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: I don't want to pull them out?
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: What are you doing? Gordie?
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: That's disgusting. Now he's getting his camera, he's going to
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: take photos of it. Can you this bloke, this fokes
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: is in professional radio, mate, But how will he edit
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: this out? Or is this staying in the show. I
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: don't think he will. I'm going to tell you right now, Paul,
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: I don't think he's going to edit this out. All right,
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: ladies and gentlemen, can you it's just secretly DM, because Pauly,
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: sorry Gord, he probably won't even listen to the show
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: top and tail it and it out so secretly DM,
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: Paul Marrick travelong and let us know that he let
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: this left this rubbish in.
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: That's it.
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: It also helps us understand you're listening, because otherwise I'm
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: not even sure these bokes have listeners.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: I don't know why you do it.
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: I don't think we do it.
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: Honest he mentioned do you have a sponsor or?
- 1:33:25Speaker 8: What?
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: No?
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: God?
- 1:33:26Speaker 9: No?
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: Okay, well you got to work on your money on this.
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: Ah see that's the problem. And that's what that's where
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: Fennick and I had a problem. We started the private feed,
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: which just us talking shit and swearing and everything, and
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: I would never try and attach a sponsor. That because
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: I don't want someone saying you can do something right.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: But I would never launch a podcast without a.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: Sponsor such a thing. It's you do it for the
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: love pretty much.
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: I mean, if this, if we had to hire the
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: studio and everything makes sense, but you know, it is
- 1:33:52Speaker 6: what it is. So where do you have a studio
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: set up at work?
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: So in the e FGM office upstairs of now pretty
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: much's got much with three zone. It's a desks desk
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: for me to work at, and I record the FtM
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: podcast just at my desk, and then the lounge room
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: which is the Today show backdrop, and then the corner
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: is like this, it's an acoustic area and with three
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: cameras for a video podcasting, yeah, because may we do it?
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: Thirteen years we never did video because I didn't want
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: to fucking edit it. But then AI editing came along
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: and I could just drop three tracks in actually boom,
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: yeah mate, So I dropped three tracks my camera, Steven's
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: camera too shot and then the audio sync it up
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: and then just go top and tail and then click
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: a button and on a good Mac one and a
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: half minutes later, a one hour show. He's edited multiicam.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: So when I'm talking, it's on me, when he's talking,
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: it's on him.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: It's brilliant.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: So yeah, like I would never plug in or just
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: plug in for premiere. Thanks for joining us. Don't want
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: to shave them?
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: Why get them out? This is by the way, this
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: is yours. I neve already got one, but you get
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: another one.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: I can I just tell you really, I want to
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: cry right now. I broke Look, I broke mine. Oh
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: so I didn't want.
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: To out of rage.
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: Actually was.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: It was just the.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: Closest thing on my desk and I threw it. You're
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: not going to I'm absolutely not gonna.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Lost because your wife said no to the.
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: You don't want to know how close to the true
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: that story is. But it's funny because it's still sitting
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: on my desk. But I've put it together again because
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: my daughter's like, why have you got a broken cup?
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: I'm like, because I feel really bad that I broke.
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: This is the nicest bumper stickers. You know where I'm
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: going to put that? Not on my bumper.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: You're not going to put it on the on the board.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: No, really no, that's not going to have them there.
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: If you want No, probably not. Actually no, sorry, I
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: just realized, Oh no, I could cut it this, it's
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: just Paul.
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: Do you know what?
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: Do you know what? I actually Paul?
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: It actually works if he ever needed to, it just
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: works fine, Paul. Probably we could probably photoo the Gordy.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: Do you know what? Paul sent me a challenge right
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: before you got in here was to stick one of
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: those on your coopra born And I've just got out
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: to do that, and now I realized a prend genesis
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: GV sixty, So I stuck on it. Anyway. The people, yeah,
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: they love me, they do. They genuinely listen to this podcast.
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: Bill he Nikey. Sorry about the sticker and Pete in
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: the garage. I'll pull the sticker off.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: No, don't they love it. Actually, they were hitting me
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: up for merch.
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: Should put some in the car.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll get them. I'll give them some merch too.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: You know what you meant to do with merch? You
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: meant to sell it.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: You know, we got we wanted to give it to people,
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: and then I realized it it's actually bloody expensive.
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: It's really hard to send it.
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: It's actually really expensive to send it to Pete that's.
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: Why I gave you bloke umbrellas that time, because it's
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: possible to sell it.
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: That's on my post by the way, just on that.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: It is genuinely on my to do list this weekend.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: Guaranteed it's getting sent out, so so it is. People
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: actually will I think we should eventually sell stuff, but
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: we'll get to it this We might.
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: Just come for seventy nine to ninety five plus eighty
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: six dollars postage.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: It's so bloody expensive to post ship. But I've got
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: a one on it. So it's going to be done,
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: and it will be done this weekend.
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: That's a one year old promise. It feels like it's
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: a really low it took.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: It took a while for the for the great people
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: of Machines Plus to get as the merge they were
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: moving factories. Anyway, great people. It's next on the list.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: Apple and Tesla.
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: Oh yeah, so again we should stop discussing stuff off fair,
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: but we were discussing off air about.
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: If you stopped eating.
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's yeah, Gordy eating us when I was Jesus.
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: So I read in the Afar this morning that Apple
- 1:37:44Speaker 6: and Tesla's share prices have taken a hit after they
- 1:37:47Speaker 6: announce basically their results in China, both respectively getting boned
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: by Chinese public and Chinese government making certain requests of
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: citizens to switch funds.
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: Chinese citizen follow their requestion too pretty strictly.
- 1:38:02Speaker 6: So I'll get to Tesla in a second. Tell me
- 1:38:04Speaker 6: with phones. So I use an iPhone, have used one forrages,
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: used an Android for a little while, didn't love it.
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: And the Google phones are great phones. The Google Androids
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: are fantastic phone.
- 1:38:15Speaker 6: Of the pigs just Google right. So now what's happening
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: in China is they've been told, certainly for governments, that
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: you can't have iPhones. And there was a quote from
- 1:38:26Speaker 6: one person who didn't want to be sort of directly named,
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: that said, basically, they came to the office and said,
- 1:38:31Speaker 6: you've got two weeks to get rid of your iPhones.
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: You're switching to Huawei's. Two weeks later, they came with
- 1:38:37Speaker 6: a box and anyone that hadn't gotten rid of their
- 1:38:39Speaker 6: iPhones was asked to put it in the box. Were
- 1:38:41Speaker 6: getting twenty percent off. So they're all excited because it's
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: a So anyway, the hui Wi they're getting is like
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: some high end new thing with some fancy chipset where Yeah,
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: ironically they were a lot of the people that were
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: quoted in this story were concerned about Apple's spywear.
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: Like if you think about the propaganda that exists in
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: Australia over China and Huawei, And for full clarity, I
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: have no problem with Whawei. There's no evidence they have
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: done anything, so I think a lot of it is propaganda.
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: But anyway, so on that, I always wanted that myself.
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: Huawei, we're not allowed to build the five gene networks.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: Who do you think built the four g networks for
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: Optus and votefone? Fucking we're still using. If they wanted
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: to spy, they would have been fucking spying already.
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: And that's my Other points to that as well, is
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: that you can open up at Huawei phone, take every
- 1:39:29Speaker 6: single bit apart and examine it to see if it
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: has anything. It would have been easy to do by now.
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and Huawei has no presence outside of China. They've
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: got a sub brand called Honor, which does do pretty
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: well in the US weirdly and Europe. But mate, those
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: companies are so big that they can churn out enough
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: phones for everyone there, right, so look, Apple is seen
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: by Chinese in the same way as the scene here.
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: It's this prestige thing, it's this better thing to have.
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: But the fact is that you can do better than
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: Apple with just a five hundred bucks. You don't really
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: need to buy an iPhone. You could just get used
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: to her bloody a cheap android phone. Generally belief stuff,
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: this phone here that I'm using right now throughout five
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: hundred and fifty bucks.
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: What about drama about the camera stuff?
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: I mean, I took a bunch of photos of my
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: son's baseball on the weekend. It was great. I mean,
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: I don't have any issues with it, Like.
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: I think it's it's more just with the rest of mine.
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: Put those photos away. I don't want to see one
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: Jesus Christ.
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: Well, actually, ironically, look at that.
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: Have you seen that vehicle?
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I've heard of me.
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: Yeah right. So this is a phone company or a
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: tech company in China making a fucking electric car.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: Hire the designer from.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: Get that designer from.
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: It's like, it's a beautiful looking car.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: That's a nice looking car.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: But see that's what's happening in China. I was in
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: Shanghai and I was blown away by the number of
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: ev companies that I'd never heard of, Axion or something
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: and all these different things. They've got a ship ton
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: of car.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: You're very weird tonight.
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: I worry about you.
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: I'm worried about shte going. I saw you eat that pizza.
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: He literally put it between two sizes of bread and
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: ate it like a sandwich.
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: That's going.
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: I know. I took down the recipe.
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: I did sneak a piece in while you're outside.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that cheesy crust. I haven't had one of those. Jesus,
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: it's not bad. Good for Domino Dominos a sponsor of
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: the show. They should they should be we should get
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: a sponsor. Can you imagine we could get like e
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: f T there you go, send me a proper and
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: you imagined.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: Made a money by the look of it.
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: Can you imagine me doing live reeson for Trevor em
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: T what's it called? Anyway, if you want technological advice,
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: don't send me a proper. Do you see that? Good
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: people at is doing very well? He is doing great.
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: He is He's he's certainly latched onto the electric car
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: hitting situations.
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: Great respect for his use of the algorithm.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: It's brilliant. I'll tell you what ifever. I need a
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: torch or like a device to shave my balls. He's
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: your man.
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: Any no machine, machine work done.
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: Yeah, fucking he fucking has it all. He's that neighbor
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: you kind of want, like.
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: You're putting you can you weld this together for me?
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, sure, Yeah, you're fucking it up, you're
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: doing it wrong. Come, I'll do it. And then he'll
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: tell you how much of a dickhead you are for
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: forty five minutes, and then you'll probably have a couple
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: of beers with you.
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: That sounds like pretty much my every day.
