Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Hey friends, this is Kent Sanders from Inkwell Ghostwriting.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to episode 150 of the Smart Business Writing Podcast.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: This is the show that helps you grow your business, amplify your authority, and increase your impact through the power of writing.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for joining me on this episode.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: You know, since last August, I've been a part of the Total Life Freedom Community.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: This is a paid group led by Vincent Puglisi, who is the author of the amazing book called Freelance to Freedom.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: He's also the host of the Total Life Freedom Podcast, which I love and listen to constantly.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend that you check out both of these, which you can access through Totalife Freedom.com.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Every Friday in the Facebook group for Total Life Freedom, Vincent asks us to share our wins from the previous week as well as our major goal for the coming week.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And I have to admit that this was really uncomfortable for me at first.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I wasn't used to sharing my wins or honestly even thinking about what my wins were.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: I'm always thinking about the next thing I need to do or the next goal I'm trying to reach.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And it's honestly kind of rare that I just stop and think about what my wins are or even celebrate those.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I'm an eternal optimist, but when it comes to my wins and my accomplishments, I tend to always focus on what's missing or what I haven't done.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And by asking us to post our weekly wins, Vincent has really helped me to celebrate those wins and acknowledge the good things that I've done, even if I don't always think of them as big achievements.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And in fact, it's not about huge achievements.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: It's very rare that anybody has a huge achievement in a vacuum.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Big wins are almost always made up of a bunch of smaller wins that we have accumulated along the way.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: One of the reasons why we sometimes neglect to celebrate our wins is because most of our wins feel pretty small in comparison to the wins that we see from other people.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you struggle with this, but most of the time when I'm scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, all that I see are other people's wins.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And it can honestly be a little bit discouraging sometimes because we compare other people's big wins to our hyper-awareness of our own shortcomings or what we perceive as smaller wins or even our losses.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: But it's vital to remember this about social media.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Everybody only posts their wins.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, how often do you actually post your failures on social media?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I don't do this very often, if if ever.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe I have done it a few times over the years, but it's a pretty rare thing.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: In fact, I can't think of the last time that I made a point to post about something that I messed up or some way that I have failed.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: So remember that what you see on social media is not really a truthful representation of the whole picture of other people's lives.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: It's only one tiny fragment or one tiny slice of other people's lives.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: We're not usually seeing the struggles, the failures, the shortcomings, the mistakes, or even the downright stupid decisions that other people make.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: And that includes me, and that includes you as well, because I know for sure that I make my share of stupid decisions and mistakes.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: So with all that in mind, I'm asking you, do you celebrate your wins?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: If you don't, I encourage you to do this on a weekly basis.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: You can do this on your own, or you can do it with a group of people, which I think is actually far more powerful.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Most people don't celebrate their wins because they feel like it's bragging or being boastful.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: But if it's the truth, it's not boasting, right?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a lot to be said for honestly acknowledging the good things we have done because it reinforces those things.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: We tend to repeat what gets reinforced in our lives.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So, in other words, when we can celebrate our wins with other people in a meaningful way and in a positive environment and a positive culture, it reinforces those same behaviors psychologically in our life.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: So celebrating our wins is actually an important part of developing good habits in our lives.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: So remember this, and here I'm preaching to the choir.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Actually, I'm preaching to myself, if it's a choir of one, I guess.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Remember that the only race you're running is the race you're running against yourself.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: You're not competing against anybody else.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: In this world of personal branding and entrepreneurship, you can be a category of one.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: So make sure to take note of your wins and celebrate those every single week.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: It's even better if you can do it on a daily basis.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: In fact, I think that's a great idea.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Starting today, I'm going to take note of my wins each day before I go to bed and just take note of the things that I've done correctly.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So here's my question for you.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Do you celebrate your wins?
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: And if so, how are you going about doing that?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear your thoughts.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: You can shoot me a message on Twitter at Kent Sanders, or you can also find me on Facebook at Kent Sanders.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: And by the way, you can find lots more resources for business and writing at my website, which is KentSanders.net.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Until next time, remember that your writing has the power to change people's lives.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: I'll see you in the next episode.
