- 0:07Let's stand together. It's one simple verse but it's
- 0:10still worthy of our reverence and it's worthy of our
- 0:14attention. Exodus chapter 20 beginning in
- 0:17verse 7. You shall not take the name of
- 0:26the Lord, your God in vain. For the Lord will not hold him
- 0:33Guiltless. Who takes his name in vain.
- 0:39Father, we thank you again for this word.
- 0:43An ending in Revelation. Blessing upon blessing.
- 0:50And Lord, we just ask that as we continue in the Ten Commandments
- 0:55you would continue to reveal to us who you are.
- 1:00And the blessings that come from your commands for by them, we
- 1:04have life. And we thank you Lord for Jesus,
- 1:07who fulfilled the law for us because we could not do it.
- 1:09But Lord. We also thank you that by the
- 1:11spirit, you have written them written them on our hearts.
- 1:14So now we long for them. So Lord, as we with your word,
- 1:19through your word and in your word, discover this command give
- 1:22us Clarity from confusion and give us willingness to obey in
- 1:27Jesus name. We pray, amen.
- 1:29You may be seated. The first two Commandments of
- 1:34the Ten Commandments. And as we finish these 10
- 1:39commandments, you're probably going to hear the same
- 1:40introduction following up from what we learned last week.
- 1:44And that's okay because it's going to stick in our brains
- 1:47that much more, the first two Commandments dealt specifically
- 1:52with the people. And their complete devotion and
- 1:56adoration towards God that there were to be no other God.
- 2:01But this God, the true and living God, the only God and
- 2:05that they were not to even take this God, if they have decided
- 2:08to worship Him and try to manipulate him or try to carve
- 2:12him into their own image or try to remove things of him, that
- 2:15they might not feel too comfortable with or add
- 2:18something to him that they might.
- 2:20Need, concerning their carnal flesh to be fulfilled. and we
- 2:26are motivated here to understand why these two Commandments are
- 2:29important because he is what Why is he giving these commands?
- 2:35It's in the second verse and we talked about extensively.
- 2:38Why did God give these first two Commandments?
- 2:41Because he's a jealous, God. He is jealous ferociously,
- 2:46jealous that he himself wants us for himself complete, adoration
- 2:52complete devotion, complete sacrifice unto him and him
- 2:56alone. And that is something that we
- 2:58can agree with concerning on a human level.
- 3:00If any of us want to be in any Covenant relationship, we want
- 3:04Total devotion from that spouse from that person and God wants
- 3:07nothing less. Now, when we come to the third
- 3:09commandment, we are still dealing with God's righteous
- 3:12passion. His fiery Zeal for total
- 3:18obedience to him is found in verse 1 and 2 and that passion
- 3:22continues and in this third commandment, but the object of
- 3:27his passion is not us The first two Commandments, the object of
- 3:32his passion is you and me, I want you.
- 3:36I'm jealous for you for the spirit that I've made to dwell
- 3:38in you. You're mine.
- 3:42We should be stirred by that but the third commandment, he has a,
- 3:46he has a righteous deal but it's not for us necessarily and we
- 3:51can Rejoice that God gives us commands.
- 3:53And God gives us instructions because he loves us, but there's
- 3:57something else that motivates God.
- 4:00What is it? Read it right there.
- 4:07You shall not take the name of the Lord.
- 4:11What is he zealous for? What is he jealous for?
- 4:14What is he passionate about his name?
- 4:17His name and though he is yes again motivated by love to
- 4:23sacrifice and to show long-suffering and to even
- 4:26demonstrate his power. Isn't it wonderful that when you
- 4:28read Jesus performing Miracles? Oftentimes, it's coupled with
- 4:31the Revelation that he is compassionate that he did his
- 4:34miracles because he was a compassionate, he is a
- 4:37compassionate God but we can never imbalance that Truth by
- 4:42removing the understanding that he's also jealous for his glory.
- 4:47So you kind of have these two ideas, concerning how God
- 4:50relates to, man, you have those that say it's all about his
- 4:52love, he loves us, he died for us because he loves us.
- 4:55That's true. But they don't, they don't talk
- 4:57about the fact that he also wants to glorify himself.
- 5:00Then you have the other side that's all about God's glory.
- 5:03Jesus died for his glory. Jesus did this for his glory?
- 5:06Jesus. All these things she saves for
- 5:08his glory. He heals for his glory and then
- 5:10they don't really talk about the love.
- 5:11Can we just marry the two and just be balanced?
- 5:15he loves us and he is jealous for us, but he also is jealous
- 5:20for his name and this commandment has to do exactly
- 5:24with that name, his name and so, he speaking to those who are
- 5:30familiar with his name, and what is he trying to say here is
- 5:33trying to say this, I want you to be careful how you handle my
- 5:37name. Because based on how you handle
- 5:42my name will determine how I will receive glory honor and
- 5:47recognition. How we as his people treat this
- 5:52name will determine to some degree how God through us will
- 5:57receive glory to his name. And so we have to really take he
- 6:02to this, but we're going to realize, I believe more than
- 6:04anything how God really values his name.
- 6:07It's probably going to shock us. The extent that God goes to to
- 6:11make sure that his name is protected concerning its
- 6:14reputation. So what does he do?
- 6:19He gives us different titles of his name.
- 6:21He reveals himself early on an exodus as I am.
- 6:24I am who I am and the beauty about all of his titles.
- 6:28And all of these things that he relates to himself is ultimately
- 6:32a reflection of his character. We have to remember that even
- 6:36names given to certain Saints in the scriptures and certain
- 6:39people as we know are given because it reveals something
- 6:42about either that person's character or that person's
- 6:45Destiny and it's so much more true for God that his name.
- 6:49Why? Because when we mention his
- 6:51name, and when we speak of his name, we would be reminded of a
- 6:53certain attribute. We would be reminded just by the
- 6:56mention of his name. We would know that he is Holy
- 6:59that he has powerful, that he is loving that he is gracious and
- 7:03forgiving now, if that name is associated with anything, other
- 7:10than who he truly is, it becomes an assault to his character.
- 7:17None of us in here would like our name associated. to a
- 7:23certain circumstance or situation, or even a person,
- 7:28That is not living righteously or that is not acting.
- 7:31Holy or a situation that is not honorable.
- 7:35None of us want to be associate and we have the right to be
- 7:37frustrated. If somebody does bring our name
- 7:39into something that it should not be brought into how much
- 7:41more God, how much more God. And so this commandment has
- 7:46everything to do with that. Let me read this verse you in
- 7:48Exodus 916, he says this early on But for this purpose, he's
- 7:53talking about raising up Pharaoh.
- 7:55But for this purpose, I've raised you up to show you my
- 8:00power. Why so?
- 8:02That my name may be proclaimed in all the Earth.
- 8:07I want my name to be known throughout the entire world and
- 8:13I want my name to carry such a reputation that when they hear
- 8:16my name, they would know my axe. That At The Mention Of My Name,
- 8:22they would know that I am the god that delivered my people out
- 8:25of Egypt that split the Red Sea that destroyed all the false
- 8:28gods of pharaoh and all of his Nation.
- 8:35Psalms 111 verse 9. This is powerful.
- 8:39He sent Redemption to his people.
- 8:41He has commanded his Covenant forever.
- 8:44Holy and awesome is his name. Holy and awesome is his name.
- 8:54So if we really want to get to the center reason for this
- 8:58command, it's for this. He wants to instill in the minds
- 9:02of his people. And understanding of his name in
- 9:06such a way, pay attention that we would be careful how to use
- 9:11it in our verbal activity. and, We would Revere it when it is
- 9:18mentioned amongst us. Let me say that again, God
- 9:22through this command wants to instill in his people.
- 9:24Such an understanding of his name that we would be careful of
- 9:27how to use it in our verbal activity and we would Revere him
- 9:32when it is even mentioned by a whisper This is what he's trying
- 9:37to do. He says, don't don't take my
- 9:39name in vain which now we open up to one another.
- 9:44What does it mean to take God's name in vain?
- 9:54So songs about like you said, associated with anything that
- 9:59isn't glorifying him. But at the same time, if you, if
- 10:03you call yourself, for example, question ourselves, Christian,
- 10:07we should walk a life that honors God, the same for them,
- 10:12and they associate themselves with God, they should have to
- 10:16walk the life that God intends for them.
- 10:19Or else that through actions taking his name is Randy.
- 10:24Vein it's smearing his name so we're not just strictly talking
- 10:27about some lip service here are we is God taking God's name in
- 10:32vain strictly restricted to how we speak of him or how we live
- 10:37how we live. And we're going to see that more
- 10:40than anything. Yes.
- 10:42So we represent his name. So, how I live must be in line
- 10:45with the person and the God that I represent.
- 10:48What are the things involve taking God's name in vain?
- 10:52Associating things that are not glorifying him.
- 10:55Absolutely. Yeah.
- 10:56Using lord's name to push an agenda.
- 10:57That's not a. Oh yeah.
- 11:02We see that a lot. Unfortunately, today I'm going
- 11:05to talk about in a moment to taking his name for the purpose
- 11:08of advancing an agenda. Yeah.
- 11:17Oh, we'll get into it, we'll see ya.
- 11:21We're going to discover in a moment.
- 11:24Yes, this character that kind of things like so dragging his name
- 11:35in the dirt, to even associate him or to even say something in
- 11:37the same sentence that does not honor or glorify who he is.
- 11:40Absolutely. And that's kind of the common
- 11:42way. We understand taking God's name
- 11:43in vain, is that we put his name or we replace his name with
- 11:48something that is Not wholly, sure.
- 11:52Any other way we can take God's name in vain.
- 11:54This is important. So we said some surprisingly,
- 12:01because people have this narrow view of taking God's name.
- 12:04In vain is saying that three-letter word phrase when
- 12:07you receive bad news, or when you're surprised or when you get
- 12:10startled by something, it's deeper than that.
- 12:14Yeah, swearing. That's as simple as that when we
- 12:18use his name as a cuss word, that's the common view.
- 12:21Absolutely. We shouldn't neglect that
- 12:22though. That is the main way, there are
- 12:25many ways. Yes, The way we live
- 12:29associating, his name to what is not wholly.
- 12:30Not glorifying his name, cussing, and swearing
- 12:34absolutely. Advancing a genda.
- 12:38Yes. Well it would help us to look
- 12:40into what the word vain means. The Hebrew word for vein is shot
- 12:45of the root word is she've. And in this sense, it has three
- 12:50main words that are associated with it.
- 12:53One of them is worthlessness worthlessness, the other is
- 12:58false sness rockets sness, and valueless So when we're talking
- 13:05about something being in vain, it's something that is false is
- 13:09associated with something that is false, It's associated.
- 13:11Something that is worthless and valueless, and in the root word,
- 13:14it even has this idea of Destruction destruction.
- 13:21So when we look at the original language, God is saying and we
- 13:24can we can look at it, different ways.
- 13:26Don't use my name in such a way where you destroy it.
- 13:30Or don't use my name in such a way that I am related to
- 13:34something that is false. Don't use my name in a way that
- 13:38makes it worthless. Don't be so casual with my name.
- 13:44But it's almost lost its value. And so it has to do with all
- 13:51these things. And so if we were to kind of
- 13:52rephrase this command, we can make it as simple as this.
- 13:56You shall not address God's name casually or represent it
- 14:01falsely. You shall not address God,
- 14:05casually or represent it falsely.
- 14:11Remember that? And this is what he's saying.
- 14:16It's beyond using my name in the same sentence as a cuss word,
- 14:20though. That is part of it.
- 14:22And so I want us to talk about the different ways in which we
- 14:26can take God's name in vain. Number one, in our speech.
- 14:32And there's subcategories with that in our speech.
- 14:36The first way that somebody can take God's name in vain is how
- 14:40we address his name. How one addresses the name that
- 14:45is above every other name? What did Jesus say when he
- 14:48taught his people? How to pray?
- 14:51When you pray, what does he say? Anybody know the Lord's Prayer?
- 14:57Pray. Then like this, don't pray this
- 14:59you can pray it, but we have a whole system now that's built
- 15:03upon repetition and vain ritualistic addressing to God.
- 15:07No, pray then like this take the elements of this prayer and
- 15:11apply it to your own prayer. Life, what is it?
- 15:13What's the first thing that he says, father?
- 15:17Who art in heaven, Hallowed? Be Your Name.
- 15:21Hmm. How low would be your name?
- 15:25What does that mean? Sacred.
- 15:30Yes. Glory.
- 15:32Yes. But what's the address being?
- 15:36What is it? What is it?
- 15:37What are we saying? When we say Hallowed be your
- 15:39name? Holiness to your name.
- 15:43Yes. Glorifying your name, set apart.
- 15:49Yes, that's the main part being set apart.
- 15:52So it's addressing God in this way.
- 15:54Your name is like no other name. You are lovely.
- 15:59You Are Holy, you are beyond my understanding, you are great,
- 16:05and greatly to be praised. And so what Jesus is even
- 16:10telling us as Believers, how to address God is that we should
- 16:14address him in such a way. That you would not address
- 16:19somebody else. How you address?
- 16:26Someone reveals a lot of how you respect them.
- 16:31Isn't that true? How you address an individual
- 16:35reveals much about how you respect them?
- 16:39Now, no matter what your opinion is of the president, the
- 16:43president came here to give a speech.
- 16:45I don't know why you would but if you came here to give a
- 16:47speech and there was an open Q&A, I don't think well this day
- 16:52and age, probably nobody would be bold enough to say hey Donald
- 16:58Or ADT. if you've ever been in court, You know what you have to
- 17:07say to the judge when you want to address the judge your honor.
- 17:11Why? Because there are certain people
- 17:14who have been given a level of authority and their position
- 17:16carries power and that alone deserves our respect.
- 17:20There are certain people who have been given Authority and a
- 17:24position of power and that alone causes us to address them in a
- 17:29way knowing that they can exercise that Authority.
- 17:31Now, how much more for the name that is above every other name?
- 17:38How much more? Are we to address the Holy One?
- 17:43The one again, who has been given the name above every other
- 17:47name. You know, what means that he has
- 17:48authority over all authorities and all the powers of this world
- 17:52combined. Cannot even come close to the
- 17:55power that comes from his breath alone.
- 18:00And this is the one that you and I have access to pray to Which
- 18:05is amazing because there's a mingling of two realities.
- 18:09There's this understanding of him being father, but then I
- 18:12still in the same breath have to say Halloween, be your name.
- 18:19How do you reconcile that? That's an important question.
- 18:22How do you and I reconcile the fact that he is father but he's
- 18:27also King of the universe. How do you reconcile in your
- 18:34prayer life? How do you understand that in
- 18:38your walk with the Lord? That he is father.
- 18:40But he's also King hope so. Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:45So the same thing you would honor your father so you honor
- 18:48the Lord and have beer of your father, as well.
- 18:52I would be something along those lines.
- 18:55Sure. And I think that's becoming
- 18:57increasingly difficult because we have a lot of this generation
- 19:01that is even how to respect our own parents.
- 19:05That don't even know how to address their own parents.
- 19:09And if you can't address people that you can see respectfully.
- 19:13How are you going to address someone?
- 19:14You can't see respectfully. Sure.
- 19:21How do you reconcile father? And that if you were to even
- 19:25meditate upon his Holiness, you would, you would realize that
- 19:28the ground is not low enough for you to lay prostrate on.
- 19:37How would you explain it to somebody who comes up to me,
- 19:39says, you believe, God is like your father, right?
- 19:41Sure. But you also believe that he's
- 19:42the god of the entire universe, right?
- 19:44Sure. How do you reconcile that And I
- 19:46believe one way to reconcile that, at least in my own mind,
- 19:49is that when I do understand him as father, the place for me to
- 19:52come to into revering, him is understanding how I became a
- 19:57son. When I realized that he's not
- 20:01just automatically my father, the world is not God's children.
- 20:06That is a right given to those who believe on his son.
- 20:09So, when I come to the place of understanding that God is
- 20:12father. I must also in that same thought
- 20:16realize that that's not something that came about
- 20:19automatically and there is something done for me to become
- 20:23his son and when I realized that that transaction of identity has
- 20:28come through the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that the same one
- 20:32that I call, Father is the same one that poured out his wrath
- 20:35upon the son. And on the cross allow them to
- 20:41experience a pain that is beyond anything that we can even
- 20:45comprehend for me to be adopted as a son.
- 20:48In that same thought you will feel the weight of his holiness.
- 20:54You will and you will realize that though he is Father for him
- 20:59as king to bring you to that place of having relationship
- 21:02with him is an astounding thing. That he is just he is Holy, he's
- 21:10all these things yet. I can still call him father, and
- 21:14it brings you into that balance of understanding.
- 21:16How, yes he is King, but he deserves my reverence.
- 21:21And so that's the beauty of it. How we address him.
- 21:26And you've heard me say this before, but it's worth
- 21:29mentioning again. There is, there is a casualty
- 21:36Towards God in. Even the way we address him.
- 21:39I remember when I was first saved and we were doing these
- 21:41group little things where we would come and just have group
- 21:44discussions after the church service.
- 21:47And I would hear this is just freshly saved.
- 21:50I would hear the way. People would address God.
- 21:52And just, just a new, as a new believer, I would say that just
- 21:55doesn't sound right. it just doesn't seem appropriate to say
- 22:01these words or to be so casual, And as you grow in your
- 22:06knowledge of God, you will realize that.
- 22:08And if you really meditate upon who he is, even in your prayers,
- 22:11you will be careful with how you address him.
- 22:17Even behind pulpits. One thing to observe is to see
- 22:22how that individual addresses God.
- 22:27And oftentimes, you see a very flippant cool, relaxed Jesus.
- 22:37Yet that person does not even realize that that sermon that
- 22:40they prepared will be brought up at the Judgment seat of Christ
- 22:43and they will be judged for what they just preached that day.
- 22:49And so we have to have this understanding of addressing him
- 22:53rightly Jesus even said, when you pray, say how holy his name
- 22:58is sanctify his name even in the way you address him.
- 23:07We do not take the lord's name in vain.
- 23:09By dressing him wrongly. Not just by how we address him,
- 23:14but how we apply his name. The first one is how we address
- 23:19his name the second way in, which one can take the lord's
- 23:22name in. Vain is how we apply his name.
- 23:25Leviticus, 19 12 says this. You shall not swear by my name.
- 23:30Falsely and so profane, the name of your God.
- 23:35I'm the Lord. You shall not swear by my name
- 23:39falsely. Now, what does that mean?
- 23:45Don't take it, don't take an old by God's name.
- 23:49Is that all it means that's part big.
- 23:50Part of it. Absolutely.
- 23:54If you make a promise in both the Lord is like y'all didn't
- 23:57answer. I need his name.
- 23:59I promise you this and you don't keep it.
- 24:01Don't do that. Could you what is it exactly
- 24:05what he's saying there in your attempt to validate your
- 24:09statement to be true. When in fact you yourself know
- 24:12what's false and you bring in the name of God to that
- 24:16statement, you just took in his name in vain And so when
- 24:22somebody says, oh I swear to that, I will do this.
- 24:27And I promise to that, I will perform this and you and your
- 24:31mind know that you will not. You are associating, God's name
- 24:36to something like deception and a lie and he wants no part of it
- 24:41because he's holy And so, he says, don't swear by my name
- 24:45falsely. I want nothing to do with
- 24:47falsehood. I want nothing to do with
- 24:49deception. I want nothing to do with lies.
- 24:52Keep me out of it. And Jesus Takes it up a notch.
- 24:59He takes it up a notch. This he not.
- 25:00Where does he do that? Does anybody know Matthew 5.
- 25:06Matthew 5 34 to 35. What does he say?
- 25:12But I say to you, do not take an oath at all.
- 25:19Why would tells us what we're not supposed to associate with
- 25:23an oath by heaven for it is the Throne of God.
- 25:27Or in other words, it's where God dwells Or on Earth for it.
- 25:33Is his footstool Or by Jerusalem for is the city of the great
- 25:39king. And then he goes on to say just
- 25:43let your yes, be yes. And your no be no.
- 25:48We have to understand this because what Jesus is saying,
- 25:51here to Believers is absolutely brilliant.
- 25:58So he's saying here, hey, don't even taken off at all.
- 26:03Don't try to swear by this or swear by that or swear even on
- 26:07your own head. Don't But just let your yes.
- 26:12Be yes. And your no be no.
- 26:13What is he trying to say? Because it's challenging.
- 26:17Yes, your bingo. The Lord wants to develop
- 26:29Believers. That are so honest in their
- 26:33character and are so consistent in their commitment that when
- 26:39you just say yes, it's a done deal, it's gonna happen.
- 26:43And when you say, no, it's no. And what he's trying to say is I
- 26:48don't want you to try to enhance the truthfulness of your
- 26:51statement by trying to bring my name into it or you swearing by
- 26:55something. I want you to be such an honest
- 26:58person, I want you to be such a woman of your word.
- 27:01Such a man of your word that when you say you're gonna do
- 27:03something the person that you said, yes to will not even
- 27:07question it. Oh, how convicting is that?
- 27:15Are you a person that if you say yes to something that person can
- 27:18guarantee he'll do it? Or if that person says no, can
- 27:22you trust that person? And maybe, you know, somebody
- 27:25that said yes, to something so many times that if you were to
- 27:27ask him again, you know, there's a question mark even when you
- 27:30ask them, hey, are you going to do this?
- 27:32Yeah. And in your mind, you like,
- 27:34you're not going to do it. You said, what's a modern way of
- 27:40looking at it? Well, here's a modern way of
- 27:42looking at it. Hey, can you do this?
- 27:44I'll pray about it. And, you know, the person who
- 27:49just said that, you know that the answer is no.
- 27:54Yeah, I'll pray about it. And maybe you are going to pray
- 27:57about it. If that's the case, I'm pray
- 27:59about it. But if you know in your answer
- 28:01as that person is saying something to you, you're like
- 28:03I'll pray about it when the answer is no just say no just be
- 28:08a man of your word and say I can't I can't.
- 28:17I love the story about Nathaniel.
- 28:21That short little story because when he when he encounters,
- 28:25Jesus, Jesus says something about him, what does he say?
- 28:32A man in whom there is no deceit.
- 28:36He was so truthful in his statements, he's at what good
- 28:38can come out of Nazareth. and so, what you hear is, what you
- 28:42get Now, don't confuse that with rudeness.
- 28:48Don't confuse boldness with rudeness.
- 28:50There's a difference. But there's something about a
- 28:54heart in which when they say something you know that they're
- 28:57honest in their statement that there's no fogginess, there's no
- 29:00Hayes. You're like I don't know, it's
- 29:02just plain truth and Jesus wants to produce that in his
- 29:05disciples. He said don't try to be somebody
- 29:08that says okay I'm going to make this statement more weighty by
- 29:12associating God's name with it. I'm just going to be a person
- 29:15that so consistent when I say something people will believe
- 29:18me. And so how we apply his name.
- 29:23Now, there are certain circumstances, especially you're
- 29:25going to hear this and you're going to read through the
- 29:26Epistles and you're going to see moments or even Paul takes an
- 29:28oath. There are certain circumstances
- 29:30and that's beyond the, the teaching.
- 29:32Now, even in this life, you might have to take an oath in
- 29:35some circumstances. That's different.
- 29:38There's a sense here where Jesus saying, don't be flippant and
- 29:41loose and voluntary would just making Oaths as a habit or
- 29:45because you want to try to prove your statement to be more true
- 29:49just being This person build such a reputation that people
- 29:53will take you for what you say. Just feel the weight of
- 30:00conviction. Just how powerful our words are
- 30:01and how jesus takes him. So seriously, Not only how we
- 30:05apply his name to our statements, to our promises.
- 30:12But how we speak on behalf of his name.
- 30:14So we talked about how we address his name, we talked
- 30:16about how we apply his name. Now it's how we speak on behalf
- 30:21of his name. Let me read this text from
- 30:24Jeremiah, you don't return. There was just read it.
- 30:28He's talking about the false prophets and he says, this and
- 30:32Jeremiah 20:7 15. I have not sent them declares
- 30:35the Lord, I have not sent them. But they are prophesying falsely
- 30:40in my name. The famous.
- 30:47Three-letter phrase that you here.
- 30:49I hope not too often, especially if it's not true.
- 30:53God told me fill in the blank. and there are some people that
- 31:05say that so frequently, For whatever reason, there are some
- 31:12people who say certain things and they just want to say, God
- 31:15told them so that they can just sound more spiritual.
- 31:17It's like this in. That's not that deep of a
- 31:19revelation, it's pretty plain but it just because I want to be
- 31:23more spiritual you know. The Lord told me this really And
- 31:31to a more serious level, their people.
- 31:36Who because they want to advance an agenda.
- 31:39We'll bring in the name of the Lord.
- 31:43To affect the naive. you know what it says in Romans about
- 31:48false teachers and says that they affect the naive, it's the
- 31:52naive that buy into false teaching And you might be
- 31:58thinking really this stuff happens.
- 32:00I remember when somebody came up to me, I don't know why they did
- 32:04this. Maybe they were just trying to
- 32:06test it who subscribe to a certain person's Ministry.
- 32:11And they would get newsletters and different things, but this
- 32:13was like a text message thing and this person showed me a text
- 32:17message of this man of God. Who said the angel of the Lord,
- 32:23and the text message, I read it for myself.
- 32:25The angel of the Lord appeared to me and gave me instructions
- 32:29for you. Send via text or through PayPal
- 32:32$50 for me to reveal what the angel of the Lord revealed to
- 32:37you, you believe that? You and I are sighing and we're
- 32:42laughing. But here's the thing, people
- 32:44actually buy into it or else those things wouldn't last and
- 32:48those people wouldn't be living in those kind of mansions and
- 32:51driving those kind of cars because people don't read their
- 32:55Bibles. And don't have it under stairs.
- 32:59So moved by emotion there. So moved by the supernatural.
- 33:02That anything that comes they're willing to buy into it because
- 33:05they do not have the filter of the scriptures before them.
- 33:10You've heard me say this before and I will say it again.
- 33:13You can come to such a place in your understanding and the
- 33:16handling of the sword of the spirit that even if you were to
- 33:20hear a sermon and you hear some statement being made, you can
- 33:23recognize when it's true or false because your your mind is
- 33:27saturated. With the truth.
- 33:30Where an alarm goes off because you know, the scripture when
- 33:33somebody declare something contrary to the scripture or
- 33:36somebody delivers the scriptures, even in an unworthy
- 33:39manner, you can detect it because you have the wisdom of
- 33:42God. I fear terribly for those who
- 33:50casually used God's name to advance a message, or their
- 33:54Ministry, or the reputation. And I would love to unpack this
- 34:01more concerning. What do we do with somebody?
- 34:03Who says, you know, I feel like the Lord is prompted something
- 34:05on my heart but listen, even if if you if you have that where
- 34:09the Lord puts something on your heart and you sense that and you
- 34:12pray about and you seek wisdom on it, we always have to once
- 34:17again, approach it with caution. Always with caution.
- 34:23Because what can happen is and what has happened is there a lot
- 34:27of people who are experiencing this even now that because
- 34:30somebody has been so flippant with this, God told me and
- 34:34whatever they told them happens not to be true or happens to be
- 34:37something that's false effects that person.
- 34:42To a level that you. And I can't even imagine.
- 34:47And there are people who have been haunted by years by
- 34:50statement, being made by somebody who was so arrogant
- 34:52enough to not even say something in a way where they approach it
- 34:56with humility. And say, you know, I've been
- 34:59praying for you and I don't know if this is, this is the Lord or
- 35:02what, just take this and just bring it before the Lord, but
- 35:05come with such arrogance because they want to seem bold and they
- 35:08want to seem profit like and they damaged people.
- 35:13And they walk with the sense of being haunted by something that
- 35:16they don't even know if it's true or not.
- 35:20And so there has to be. Caution around his name and
- 35:25ultimately more than anything though.
- 35:26People might be damaged by it and people can be greatly
- 35:29edified by. Like I said, I want to unpack
- 35:30this too much. I'm trying to restrain myself.
- 35:34But ultimately God's name. God's name is involved with
- 35:37that. The last thing anybody should
- 35:42want is somebody to be turned off by God because of how
- 35:44Loosely we use his name. how we address his name, how we apply
- 35:50his name and how we speak on behalf of his name is crucial to
- 35:54understanding this third commandment Is there any other
- 35:59way we can do this? There's an example of this in
- 36:05scripture being played out and it's tucked in a book that you
- 36:08wouldn't think is in there and automatically, everybody knows
- 36:11what book were talking about. It's in First Kings First Kings.
- 36:18Okay maybe there's something. I don't know about go ahead.
- 36:19What is it? Where the prophet of God went
- 36:23and condemned jeroboam and God told him to stay it like don't
- 36:29eat or drink in Israel and another Prophet came and said
- 36:36I'm also a prophet of God but you know what?
- 36:39Listen to me and lie here and rest and when he came out, got
- 36:44sent a lion too. Devour that profit.
- 36:48Yeah, that's it. That's First Kings 13, I
- 36:50believe. And that's a tricky tricky tax
- 36:53concerning this Prophet that was sent by God and he was told to
- 36:56not, go back the way he was, he came in and to not stop.
- 36:59He was supposed to just give his message and go back and then
- 37:02somebody comes in and tells him otherwise and he believed that
- 37:05man's word rather than his understanding what God spoke to
- 37:08me, and it's a whole mess. And that is that is an example.
- 37:12We can explore the one I had in mind is actually found in the
- 37:16Book of Leviticus. 24:10 let's turned it together.
- 37:24Leviticus chapter 24. Verse 10.
- 37:37Now, an Israelite woman's son, whose father was an Egyptian
- 37:42Went Out Among the people of Israel.
- 37:44And the Israelite woman son and a man of Israel fought in the
- 37:48camp verse 11 and the Israelite woman son, blasphemed the name
- 37:54and cursed, then they brought him to Moses.
- 37:57His mother's name was Sheila met.
- 38:00The daughter of debris of the tribe of Dan and they put him in
- 38:04custody to the will of the Lord should be.
- 38:07Your to them, then the Lord spoke to Moses saying, bring out
- 38:11of the camp, the one who cursed and let all who heard him lay
- 38:15their hands on his head and let all the congregation Stone him.
- 38:19Wow. And speak to the people of
- 38:23Israel saying, whoever curses his God shall bear his sin.
- 38:27Whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to
- 38:30death. All the congregation shall Stone
- 38:32him. The Sojourner, as well as the
- 38:34native. When he blasphemes the name.
- 38:39He should be put to death. Don't lift up your hand.
- 38:46Don't respond. How many of us in here,
- 38:48honestly? Feel Comfort uncomfortable with
- 38:50that story. How many of us just read that
- 38:56right now and your thoughts went automatically automatically to
- 39:00this question. That's a little bit extreme,
- 39:02isn't it? That's a little bit.
- 39:09Over-the-top wouldn't you think? But I want to challenge you with
- 39:15this thought. That we are so saturated in a
- 39:19culture of Dishonor. We are so surrounded by people
- 39:25who speak with such vulgarity. And blasphemy in our music in
- 39:33our movies and our conversations, you can do, you
- 39:35can be, you can be sitting, I was just in the barbershop just
- 39:38sitting beside somebody just hearing it was on the phone,
- 39:41just hearing the vulgarity coming.
- 39:43Just it just everywhere to the point where we become so
- 39:48normalized, and it becomes, so, Part of our day that when God
- 39:55brings the seriousness of taking his name in vain to this story.
- 40:01All of us are shocked. You know, you understand what
- 40:04I'm trying to say, God has a different perspective on his
- 40:08name than most people do today. And because even the people of
- 40:13God can be subconsciously trained to understand the
- 40:16normality of cursing and taking his name.
- 40:18So lightly, when we come to the scriptures and see what God
- 40:21demands of us, it's almost offensive to us.
- 40:25It's almost offensive to us. That's not just true for the
- 40:28third commandment. That's true of any sin here.
- 40:31Here's evidence for it right now.
- 40:32Homosexuality is a sin. The Bible declares that
- 40:38homosexuality is an unnatural desire.
- 40:43Now, as I'm saying that right now, what's going on in your
- 40:45heart? Because even among the people of
- 40:49God, if you were to address a sin, what the scriptures
- 40:52revealed to be sin. An alarm goes off.
- 40:56There's a set where you perk up and you go, did he just say
- 40:59that? Did he just say that?
- 41:01So bluntly, did he just say that?
- 41:03Just like that, he should have came in a lot softer than when
- 41:06he just said? Do you understand what I'm
- 41:08saying? When the Bible is so clear about
- 41:11it. And I know there needs to be a
- 41:13wisdom and there needs to be an understanding of how to address
- 41:16these things in love. But what I'm trying to say is,
- 41:18we are trying to remove even the sting of sin because we are
- 41:23being affected by our culture. So we pillow, even the preaching
- 41:26of God's word to make sure that nobody's stirred and at nobody's
- 41:30uncomfortable. When the very poor Commission of
- 41:33the gospel and of sin is supposed to make you feel
- 41:36uncomfortable. To bring you to a place of
- 41:39realizing that God has a different standard and here's a
- 41:42disservice that we do when we try to remove what God wants to
- 41:46say. So clearly we bring people to a
- 41:49place where they think, well, it's not that big of a deal.
- 41:52It's not that big of a deal. So if the preacher who
- 41:55represents God doesn't make it a big deal, then maybe it's not
- 41:58that big of a deal my life. I remember, Sitting in a room
- 42:03with leaders in a Q&A. And they were interviewing
- 42:08younger pastors. That were just ordained to be
- 42:13pastors. And they were giving these
- 42:15younger people questions, concerning our culture and
- 42:20everything else. On one of the questions is, how
- 42:21do we address this problem of homosexuality and the moderator?
- 42:26As we were discussing, as people were, they were going back and
- 42:29forth, he wouldn't even call it a sin.
- 42:33That when it came to addressing it was, there was so much
- 42:36hesitation, so it was replaced with an unhealthy way of living.
- 42:43And not the way God designed it. And guess what?
- 42:50That's because we've allowed our minds to be saturated with what
- 42:55the culture says, rather than what the word of God says.
- 43:00I am not an advocate for bashing people, even in their sin
- 43:03because Jesus didn't do that. Nevertheless, we are not to take
- 43:09on the perspective of the world concerning sin.
- 43:11We are to take on what God says about Sin.
- 43:16So we come to something like this and we go, that's a little
- 43:18bit extreme. And you know what?
- 43:20That's okay. I'm not saying it's a sin to
- 43:21think that But let's understand why this is happening.
- 43:27Notice with me here, that this is in the Book of Leviticus.
- 43:31This is something concerning the instructions given to the
- 43:34people. At the birthing stage of a
- 43:37Nation. This is not something down the
- 43:41road. This is in the developmental
- 43:43stage of them growing as a people.
- 43:47And God does it in more than one way where he makes it abundantly
- 43:51clear of what he's expecting from his people.
- 43:55And we see here that this person blasphemes God, like directly.
- 43:59So in this fight, with this other Israelite there seems to
- 44:02be an altercation and this man apparently wants to get at this
- 44:06person by cursing, his God And there seems to be that in that
- 44:11truth because his father was an Egyptian, he was part of that
- 44:14mixed multitude that came up. So maybe his father was in a
- 44:18Believer and and Yahweh or maybe his father had that practice and
- 44:23that just affected him as a child.
- 44:25No matter what angle you look at it.
- 44:27He tries to curse the name of God and when he does curse, the
- 44:30name of God, God puts his foot down.
- 44:34Why? Isn't phraseology.
- 44:39So easy to mimic. That terms and slangs and words
- 44:45can so be contagious within a short.
- 44:47You know, somebody comes in here and they say statement and it
- 44:50can just spread like wildfire no.
- 44:53Right? And some of us can give examples
- 44:56of that or maybe you hang around with somebody so long and you
- 44:59appreciate that person, subconsciously, you just begin
- 45:01to develop their phraseology, you began talking like them and
- 45:04maneuvering like them. Okay, this is what God's doing.
- 45:08I'm not going to let this person infect the rest.
- 45:13I'm not gonna let this individual curse my name and so
- 45:17make that a common thing amongst the others and it become a
- 45:20habitual normal thing, like it is today and so I'm going to
- 45:23make a statement. My name is Holy, My name is
- 45:27Holy. And I'm not going to develop a
- 45:30people and raise a people that will when they're frustrated
- 45:34curse. My name like it's nothing.
- 45:38And so, he makes this bold example, out of this man.
- 45:41Which I find so fascinating, because you don't even know his
- 45:44name. look at it with dresses and is interested in how The
- 45:49Israelite woman's son. The Israelite woman, son, the
- 45:54Israelite woman's son. Why?
- 45:55Because if you're not going to honor God's name, God won't even
- 45:57recognize yours. That's what I believe is
- 46:01happening, right there. Does he want to give him the
- 46:03name and wants to just show? My name must be revered.
- 46:10Because when you assault my name you assault my character, you
- 46:13assault my reputation. For there is no other name.
- 46:20Given among men under Heaven given among men by which we must
- 46:24be saved. It is the access through the
- 46:28name of Jesus that we can come to God In Prayer.
- 46:33The name of the Lord is a strong tower, right?
- 46:38Is it? No wonder that.
- 46:40Satan the prince of the power of the air has made the name of
- 46:44Jesus. Presented with such blasphemy
- 46:51filth and Venom. So that when that name is
- 46:55presented and when that name is heard, it would be defiled
- 46:58because it's associated with so much junk in this world.
- 47:02Do you see that Satan is is literally attempting to assault
- 47:05his name so that when you hear his name you wouldn't think
- 47:09about the power that he has. You want to think about his
- 47:11salvation, you want to think about his goodness, it would
- 47:14just be something that you expressed some frustration.
- 47:18It would be something that you say, because you Just express
- 47:24yourself that way, becomes something.
- 47:25Casual The devil knows what can happen when people understand
- 47:31the name of Jesus rightly. So he wants to try to Mar it,
- 47:35drag it in the dirt defile, it and God is fighting for the
- 47:40glory of his name. and we, as people have to honor that He
- 47:46says, here through this. It's not a light thing, but we
- 47:51talked up to this point and we're almost done here.
- 47:53We talked up to this point about how the lord's name in vain is
- 47:56something that's done through speech.
- 47:59But we have to understand. That you and I could be a people
- 48:03that are squeaky clean and not taking the lord's name in vain
- 48:07that we don't address it falsely that we address it with
- 48:09Holiness, all those things. And all of those things can be
- 48:15absolutely pointless and Effectiveness based on another
- 48:19thing. And what's that?
- 48:20The way we live The way we live. I'm going to read something to
- 48:27you in Romans, Chapter 2. You can turn there if you want.
- 48:29Romans chapter 2 verse 21, While You Preach against stealing,
- 48:33the, you steal is talking to the Jews.
- 48:36You, who say that? One, must not commit adultery.
- 48:38Do you commit adultery? YooHoo abour.
- 48:41Hide Idols do you rub temples you who boast in the law
- 48:45dishonor, God by breaking the law for, as it is written, the
- 48:49name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles, because of you.
- 48:57Right there. He's addressing the Jews for
- 49:00living as hypocrites. And they're hypocritical living
- 49:06is bringing blasphemy to God's name to the onlookers of
- 49:11supposedly. The people of God, he's saying
- 49:14you Jews are saying how your righteous and you have a law and
- 49:17you're not living according to law and the Gentiles around are
- 49:19looking in and they're saying, wait a minute but you're living
- 49:22contrary to what you're preaching.
- 49:25And look at this, we think that This only affects us know, God's
- 49:30name is violated in that. Do you see the depths of the
- 49:35dangers of hypocrisy? No wonder.
- 49:38Jesus came on the scene and the harshest Tony had was concerning
- 49:41hypocrites. Not towards the prostitute.
- 49:45Not towards the adulterer, not towards the tax collector.
- 49:49The ones that had this portrayal of righteousness and Jesus says,
- 49:54listen, you're Hypocrites, you have greed in.
- 49:57You you're filled with dead men's bones, you clean the
- 50:01outside of the cup. But inside the cup, it's filthy,
- 50:04you take God's word and you were Masters at twisting it for your
- 50:07own gain. You don't honor your parents.
- 50:09You say that you're taking this money for the temple when you
- 50:11have to honor your parents and providing for them in there.
- 50:14Old age and he addresses these things through and through and
- 50:16it's no different for us. The any inconsistency in our
- 50:22lives, because we represent the name of Jesus Christ, anything
- 50:27in our lives. That's inconsistent with his
- 50:29character or his lordship over. Our lives is an extension and a
- 50:34very weighty way of taking the lord's name in vain And so, it's
- 50:42beyond the tongue. It's in our character.
- 50:45It's in our responses is in the way we just live.
- 50:51If you have the King James version, this is a great
- 50:53Advantage. But even in different
- 50:54translations, that has the same understanding, Proverbs Chapter
- 50:5730 verse 8, Paul, can you read verse 8, 2 verse 9?
- 51:01Please give me neither poverty, nor riches feed me with food,
- 51:08convenient? For me lest I be full of denied.
- 51:10Me and say, who is the Lord, unless I've imported steel and
- 51:13take the name of my God. Dang.
- 51:17So we know this wonderful prayer.
- 51:20We're agar says, what he goes. Lord, I'm going to pray this
- 51:24way. I'm not going to pray that I
- 51:25would be Filthy Rich, so that I would just abandon you and my
- 51:27walk with you because I'm just becoming so materialistic and
- 51:31driven by the things of this world.
- 51:32But Lord, I'm praying that I would not even be poor as well.
- 51:35Why less? I in my poverty begin to steal
- 51:38and when I steal bring your name in vain And he is fee is says,
- 51:46or profane your name? It's not based on what he's
- 51:50saying, is based on how he's living Based on his dishonesty
- 51:54based on the secret, the secrecy of his life of taking something
- 51:58that does not belong to him. And all that is an assault to
- 52:01the person that we represent. so he says here that it goes beyond
- 52:07speech, it goes into the way, we deal with one another, the way,
- 52:11the deal with finances, the way we deal with situations and
- 52:14circumstances that in it all, take this to your heart in it,
- 52:18all God's reputation is being demonstrated through your life
- 52:26and so it's this constant awareness by the power of the
- 52:29Holy Spirit. And through the meditation of
- 52:31his word day and night that I would realize that I'm not
- 52:34representing myself, but I've been bought with a price.
- 52:37I've been bought with a price and so in all my dealings,
- 52:41ultimately the name of God, the name of my savior.
- 52:47It's written on my forehead. and when people see in me,
- 52:52ultimately Testify the one I serve, now, It's understandable.
- 52:57Yes, we make mistakes and all those things, but this is for
- 52:59the ones that feel like they can live in hypocrisy and I God will
- 53:02not hold him Guiltless. He will And this is why God is
- 53:07once again hammering in the New Testament against this idea of
- 53:11living one way professing to know God Titus 1:16 by denying
- 53:14them by their works, it can't it can't work.
- 53:18Does anybody know the root word for hypocrite?
- 53:23That's good acting, right? Yes.
- 53:28Well, it's it has to do with acting.
- 53:30Yes. So, in ancient times when it
- 53:32came to acting, resources were not like what we have today.
- 53:36And so what would people do an actor would come up?
- 53:39And he would take a mask and we place it on his face and he
- 53:42would act as a certain character.
- 53:43But once again, because of resources or even just because
- 53:46of the genre, the play that person would take off the mask
- 53:49put on a another mask. And play as another character.
- 53:53That's where that word comes from.
- 53:56That's exactly what hypocrisy is.
- 53:58It's displaying you yourself one way but in a moment you can
- 54:02switch and become something else.
- 54:04All it takes is you stepping into work.
- 54:06Your somebody else all. It takes you stepping into
- 54:07church or someone else. All it takes is you stepping
- 54:09into home and who you were in church?
- 54:11Hallelujah. Praise God.
- 54:12Arms High. Preying on your knees weeping
- 54:14and prayer. You step into home.
- 54:16You're a different person that's hypocrisy.
- 54:19That's hypocrisy and that is greatly connected to God's name
- 54:25being represented. So here we sit with this
- 54:29commandment. Knowing that, yes, Jesus
- 54:32fulfilled it for us and there was no deceit found in his
- 54:34mouth, it was no deceit. Found in the mouth of Jesus and
- 54:38his even his speech was transferred to our account in
- 54:42righteousness. So that when we stand before,
- 54:44God, you have never taken the lord's name in vain.
- 54:47But because, as Believers, we are called to be holy as he is
- 54:50Holy in. This law is written on our
- 54:51hearts. Can you imagine I hope you feel
- 54:54the weight of this. That not only in my speech.
- 54:58Can I take his name in vain? But in my actions, I can take
- 55:00his name in vain. What is that supposed to produce
- 55:03in you and me especially in light of James 3.
- 55:05What is James 3 talk about? Yeah, who can control this
- 55:07tongue? Nobody's able to control this
- 55:10tongue. Except one person.
- 55:14Jesus. So it brings us to this place.
- 55:18God Almighty, I need your help. I need you.
- 55:25Lord help me be aware that in every moment of my day.
- 55:30I'm representing you. People know that I'm a Christian
- 55:34people know that I've committed myself to the local church.
- 55:37People know that I've given my life to the lordship of Jesus
- 55:40Christ and they're watching me help me.
- 55:43Be consistent, help me know that in all my dealings with her
- 55:48privately or secretly your name. You reputation who you are.
- 55:54Displayed through me. Is that hand?
- 56:00And we go back to Exodus 20. verse 7 and he says something
- 56:07concerning Those who do not take this command.
- 56:13Seriously, he says what? For the Lord will not hold him
- 56:19Guiltless. Who takes his name in vain.
- 56:25there are two ways that looking at that, we have to understand
- 56:28that God is able to bring about retribution, to those who take
- 56:35his name in vain, in this life, There's that famous story of the
- 56:39Titanic that you probably heard that you not.
- 56:43People are debating whether it was the captain or one of the
- 56:46workers of the ship who said this statement.
- 56:48But before this, this ship was launched.
- 56:50The Titanic somebody made this bold, Proclamation, not even God
- 56:54himself can sink this ship. And we know what happened there.
- 57:04And you can even hear different stories concerning even
- 57:06biblically. We see.
- 57:07Leviticus 20 forward. God, can't step in for the sake
- 57:10of the honor of his name. In his wisdom knowing that this
- 57:13would bring glory to him. He will bring that person to
- 57:15guilt and condemnation because of taking his name lately.
- 57:20But there is one thing for certain concerning, those who
- 57:23take his name in vain, That there is a time in which he will
- 57:28judge every man. What did Jesus say in Matthew
- 57:3212, verse 36, I tell you on the day of judgment, people will
- 57:37give account for every careless word, they speak.
- 57:45Every careless word that has been spoken, has been recorded
- 57:49in heaven. And secret one-on-one alone and
- 57:56public behind the pulpit. Every word will be taken into
- 58:01account. Even the ones that were just
- 58:05loose with. And that to me, brings much
- 58:12comfort. You probably looking me like,
- 58:15are you serious? I don't even remember what I
- 58:20said. 10 minutes ago. Now, I'll tell you why.
- 58:24It brings me much joy. because when I'm in a room and people
- 58:30use the name of Jesus, so carelessly Or perhaps you're
- 58:35watching something. And innocently.
- 58:38Not knowing somebody goes on and just trashes the name of Jesus.
- 58:43Or the celebrities that come and speak of their success in bold
- 58:46leave. And say, I remember when I heard
- 58:48one person said this will boldly and one of the awards show said
- 58:51I'm not thanking Jesus for this. Because so many people are in
- 58:56the habit of doing so. Every politician.
- 59:01Every false teacher, every great leader throughout the ages.
- 59:06All of those who have taken that precious, holy righteous name
- 59:10and if attempted to squander it and to defile it and to pull it
- 59:15out of the hearts of people as something to be treasured, every
- 59:19single, one of them will declare with their mouths that he is
- 59:23Lord and they will give an account and they will realize
- 59:27how foolish they were for declaring his name to be solo.
- 59:31And To squash it and try to put it in the dirt, they will
- 59:35realize they made a great mistake when they stand before
- 59:37him. And they will realize that he is
- 59:41the name above every other name. So, that brings us to this place
- 59:46to say Lord, while people want to ruin that name.
- 59:53When people want to take that name and Associate it with so
- 59:56much filth and garbage and wickedness may, I represent it.
- 1:00:01Well, May I speak to you about you in the fear of you help me,
- 1:00:08understand the wonderful balance that you Lord.
- 1:00:10Our Father by your also King. And Lord.
- 1:00:13More importantly though it is important made my life
- 1:00:17demonstrate the consistency of the fact that you are the Lord
- 1:00:20of all. And let the world do what it
- 1:00:23wants to do. One day, they will pay for it.
- 1:00:27One day, Jesus is name, will be exalted in the Earth, right?
- 1:00:31Be still and know that I am God I will be exalted in Nations.
- 1:00:35He says that and we can take joy in that the third commandment
- 1:00:40deals with God's desire and passion for his name.
- 1:00:44May we have that same passion Let's pray.
- 1:00:53Lord, we say tonight. How beautiful is your name?
- 1:01:01That Lord, At The Mention Of The Name of Jesus.
- 1:01:05Even a whisper can bring so much peace.
- 1:01:10Can offer so much hope. And is the name by which we are
- 1:01:16saved. Teachers that a whole bad name.
- 1:01:25Teach us how to meditate on that name.
- 1:01:27Teach us how to Faithfully Proclaim your name.
- 1:01:33Lord, may we be, we be brought to a place where even the
- 1:01:37mention of your name Stills are spheres.
- 1:01:43Sanctifies our thoughts. And brings us to a place of holy
- 1:01:50reverence to you. And father, we address you and
- 1:01:55say how do it be your name. There is none like you.
- 1:02:01You are set apart. You are transcended.
- 1:02:07There is none like you and God, we recognize your name as such.
- 1:02:13And father we ask by the power of your spirit.
- 1:02:17That you would teach us how to speak and live in a way that
- 1:02:22brings honor to the name that we represent.
- 1:02:26And Lord, if there is any inconsistencies in our life.
- 1:02:31That would make others that are looking at us.
- 1:02:35To question the god that we serve, forgive us and Lord, by
- 1:02:40your spirit, from head to toe, bring us to a place.
- 1:02:46Where people would want to know the name that we live for God.
- 1:02:51We need your help in all these things.
- 1:02:54We thank you that in Jesus. They are fulfilled and they've
- 1:02:56been transferred to our account. But Lord, in living this life
- 1:03:01representing you. We not only say that you are the
- 1:03:05only god of Our Lives. We not only say that we will not
- 1:03:08make you into something that fits our idea of who you should
- 1:03:11be a wee in the third. Commandment say help us help us
- 1:03:18treasure and value and uphold the name of Jesus help us And
- 1:03:24more soft in our hearts to such a degree again.
- 1:03:27We ask that the name of Jesus would never lose its charm.
- 1:03:33That it would do something to our faith.
- 1:03:38And that would bring us to a place of wanting to even rejoice
- 1:03:42and worship you. And so, Lord even tonight.
- 1:03:49We sanctify your name. We bless your name.
- 1:03:57And what we sing to you. In response to the Glorious
- 1:04:02name. In your name, we pray.
