- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Fred.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to Bible Tractor.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Coach, thank you so much for tuning in to this week of broadcasts.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Michael McCree.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: You're a host.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask you to grab your Bible and go to the book of songs.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to be in the first song today.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: Tomorrow and all this weekend.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: Today's series or today's program is actually going to begin kind of a two week series.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to thank you in advance for tuning in over the next two weeks.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: What I'm going to share with you, beginning today, came from a series of messages.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's a short series.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: What a series of messages.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: I heard some good feedback on and some folks told me it was a blessing.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: I try to be very careful with praise like that and I don't just swallow it wholesale but these thoughts, I'm going to share with you this week and next, they were helped to me.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And so I had the opportunity to preach on them at my home church.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: I want to blessing them to have a good home church.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: The thing today, as we start off, as we begin this journey of ten different broad casts, we begin the first of ten today in Psalm one, the thought today's this, the happy man says no.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to turn it over to myself.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: This what you'll hear next is recording.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: Short recording of the first part of this message I preached a few weeks or just that not that long ago.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm asking you if you would tune your heart, tune your ears and ask God to speak to you.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm one, Psalm one, we already read it there, but it's a short Psalm, the first Psalm.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: I remember cutting my teeth preaching in nursing homes.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: My dad
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: was an active member of every church that we were in as Uncle Sam, as God moved us around, as he was in the military, and I was called to preach under the preaching of actually, by the Terry Angel, Pastor Terry Angel, at a camp in Kansas, and just a cool thing, the investment he's made in my life over the years.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: But after that, my dad and my pastor there wanted to get me
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: Preaching.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to get better when you don't do it.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have any reps, just like anything else.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I got to teach and preach and junior church sometimes to a bunch of kids.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: But then I also got to preach in nursing homes and I understood the rules.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was either preach for fifteen minutes or until everyone's asleep, whichever one comes first.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: And no, and all serious is at a great time.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: It was a beautiful nurse at home that we had there in Manhattan, Kansas that called Manhattan the little apple.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: And there in Manhattan, Kansas, my great grandmother was actually in that nurse to come for a while and got to preach to her all the time.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: But as I preach to them, I wanted to be an encouragement.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to preach so much on door-to-door confrontational soul-winning to a bunch of folks that would have to wheel themselves out through the alarm door to get out, you know?
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to do that.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it narrows a little bit that you can preach the whole council, but at the same time, maybe not all of it is as a plug.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I preach some songs often.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: preach from souls because there's a lot of encouragement of souls.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll be honest with you, as a young preacher, I kind of had a preconceived notion in assumption about what Psalms was.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Because I was probably like most Sunday school kids here.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: If we ask them, what Psalms about?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's God's song book, right?
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's a song book of the Bible.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: And there's absolutely truth in that.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: But Psalms is not just about encouragement.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: You cannot read Psalm fifty one without feeling conviction and the weight of your sin.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: reading about how David's response to his error, his massive mistake with that sheba.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: You can't read Psalm twenty-three without comfort.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: A comfort that almost goes beyond just that will pick me up a little bit of encouragement.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: You can't read Psalm one hundred and many other Psalms without thinking of how great God is and wanted to praise him.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm one nineteen, you think about God's Word, right?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: songs.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: But as we look at the book of Psalms, of course, starts with Psalm one and Psalm one is a little bit of a gatekeeper to the rest of the Psalms or songs.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: But even
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Having an assumption or notion or an idea that Psalms is just a song book, I can encourage you, maybe in your more innovations, I hope you have more innovations.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: It may be helpful to incorporate a song book like this one right here into your morning time with God.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: There is a lot of conviction and help in a book like this.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: But you understand, as amazing as a song like Amazing Grace is written a few hundred years ago by Mr. Newton and so many others, but Wesleyan, Lutheran, all these great songwriters of the past.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then you fast forward to current more current days.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you think about Stephen Nichols last decade or so, writing God wanted it that way.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Powerful.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: But as powerful as those songs are,
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: In the way that the Bible is, none of those songs are inspired in the same way the Bible is.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, to call it just a song book here in the middle of the Bible, and we know if you're doing, I've been doing some sword drills with the kids in music class, usually on Thursdays, and the ones that maybe know a little bit more about Scripture, if they're looking for something, you know, just to the left of songs.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're just open the Bible to the middle.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to find songs right in the middle.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is not just
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just the book that you have to read about, you know, a third, two thirds halfway through the year as you go through your Bible for chapters in time.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just a song book, and if it is a song book, these songs in here have a lot of conviction, comfort, and help.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: Music's powerfully, songs are more than powerful.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: They are inspired, of course, sing it Peter I, twenty-one, holy men of God, speak as they are moved by the Holy Ghost.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to look at song one in verse number one, and we'll probably spend a good bit of our time there today.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: The thought thing this evening is this, the happy man says no.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: The happy man can say, no.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm one, once, is this blessed, blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Nor stand it in the way of sinners, nor siteth in the seat of the scornful.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: That word blessed, or blessed is, or blessed are.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, you'll find multiple occasions of that in the sermon of the Mount, blessed are the poor and spirit, and all and all it goes.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: But that phrase appears in those two options.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: Blessed is, or blessed are, about seventy times or so in scripture.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: And one of them is found here in Psalm one, one.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: But it got me thinking about that word blessed.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: And if you looked that word up, a Webster's eighteen, twenty-eight, and things like that, you'll find there are connotations of this word.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: meaning happy, meaning joyous, a real sense of fulfillment or joy.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: We think of the word blessed as meaning just things we get.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that person's blessed.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: They must have a nice car.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: They got nice house, you know, blessings of God go way beyond material things.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: And songs here tells us blessed is the man.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: And in classic biblical fashion, I'm not going to repreech Pastor Terri Angel's phenomenal message.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: The title is alluding me.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: What's the one where he has the jumper cable?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: So what's that one called?
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: You guys may be know what I'm talking about.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: But the thought is this, you can't have the positive without the negative.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: It completes the circuit.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not going to repreech that message.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: But in classic biblical fashion, God starts with the negative.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: Blessed is the man that walketh not.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs, thirteen twenty says he that walk with with wise men shall be wise but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now something I have learned and it's amazing I think back in the last even five years or ten years I think June I think back in I start celebrating twelve years something like that and I'm mistaken I something like that she's she's
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was right, wasn't I?
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was because it was a loving master.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure, a loving plus one is as twelve.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm pretty sure I'm right on that.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: But where was I at now?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be a government officer trying to figure out, in last five years, you look back and like, at myself.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: I look back and myself five years ago.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: That guy was really dumb.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: And what torques me, what absolutely frustrates me is the fact that in five more years, I'm going to look back at Mike and McCurray today and think,
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: What was that guy thinking?
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: He was such a dumb skull.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you realized something that I spent thirty-something years in my life doing that wrong.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that just the worst?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that worst when you find out that you've been calling your neighbor by the wrong name for the last half of all you've done it before?
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: I have learned I'd rather just be humble, and then there's not about humility, but just foolish enough to ask, remind me your name, because I'd much rather find out that his name is Kevin, not Bob, like I've been thinking of this for the last while.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: But we do that all the time with spiritual things, with family things.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Blessed is the man.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is, we see here a leading.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: There are differences between leading and lagging indicators.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: See, when I eat too much, which I am prone to do, I'm about as food driven as a dog, all right?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoy food.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: When I have too much food, the scale that lagging indicator for the Todd tells me I have done too much today.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: I have eaten too much.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Very rarely have I burned more calories than I've consumed.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: But there are leading indicators as well.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: In the business world, if you have a sales job, a leading indicator could be, well, we know on average, if we make a hundred sales calls, we're going to see three contracts, three sales are going to happen as a result of that.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: And so, a leading indicator that you could ask your salespeople for is how many sales calls have you made today?
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: because if they made two hundred sales calls today, that's a leading indicator that on average, you're gonna have six contracts signed by the end of the week.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: But we as Christians, I'll speak for myself, I do a really poor job of looking for those leading indicators.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: We're always trying to catch up, we're always trying, we're always looking at the lagging things.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: We're always, we never get ahead of the power curve, and God gives us a great opportunity here.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible all through Scripture tells us what happens to the foolish that walk with the scornful, that sit with the scornful, that make their seat with the wicked.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: But here we have an opportunity to look at it leading indicator.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, no standeth in the way of sinners, no siteth in the seat of the scornful.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: wonder as we look at that first thought there, blessed is the man that walketh not in the Council of Young Godly.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: In a council,
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: is the advice says the world view of others.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: We know Proverbs eleven fourteen where no council is the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety and Proverbs twelve fifteen.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to see here a lot of this is going to come from Proverbs with a way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he that harkeneth under council is wise.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs twenty five one of my favorite verses.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: Council in the heart of man is like deep water.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: But a man of understanding will draw it out.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Telefren, especially young men, young women, but I also realize that these devices are not just addictive for my generation.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Scrolling is not seeking counsel.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, we are just scratching the surface of this passage.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: But let me talk for just a moment about what I said there at the end.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is important.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Those devices, those phones that were so ubiquitous that we all have on us each and every hour every day.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk more about them tomorrow and all this week.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: And the importance of the happy man, the happy woman saying
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm gonna ask you to tune in for the remainder of this week of broadcasts.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: I hope it's a blast.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: See my prayer is always is that you have a great day for his glory.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk to you soon.
