- 0:00Chapter 3 from the book of Zechariah.
- 0:03Dear Lord, please open our eyes and our hearts and our minds to
- 0:07what you have to say. We ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
- 0:12This is called clean garments for the high priest.
- 0:15Then he showed me Joshua the high priest, standing before the
- 0:20Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to
- 0:25accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, the Lord
- 0:29rebuke you. Satan, the Lord who has chosen
- 0:33Jerusalem rebuke you. Is not this man a burning stick
- 0:39snatched from the fire? Now Joshua was dressed in filthy
- 0:44clothes as he stood before the Angel.
- 0:46The Angel said to those who were standing before him, take off
- 0:50his filthy clothes. Then he said to Joshua, See, I
- 0:54have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.
- 0:58Then I said, put a clean turban on his head.
- 1:01So they put a clean turban on his head and clothes him while
- 1:04the Angel of the Lord stood by. The Angel of the Lord gave this
- 1:09charge to Joshua. This is what the Lord Almighty
- 1:12says. If you will walk in obedience to
- 1:15Me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house
- 1:20and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place
- 1:24among these standing here. Listen, High Priest Joshua, you
- 1:30and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic
- 1:36of things to come, I am going to bring my servant the branch.
- 1:41See the stone I have sent in front of you?
- 1:43Joshua, there are seven eyes on that one stone.
- 1:47And I will engrave an inscription on it says the Lord
- 1:50Almighty. And I will remove the sin of
- 1:52this land in a single day. In that day, each of you will
- 1:57invite your neighbor to sit under your vine and fig tree,
- 2:00declares the Lord Almighty. So that's the end of chapter 3.
- 2:05But there's a lot in here. So Zechariah is having this
- 2:10Angel or this Angel came to him in a vision and he is showing
- 2:16him, Joshua, the high priest standing before the Angel of the
- 2:20Lord and Satan standing at his right and the Lord's rebuking
- 2:25Satan. And then he's saying, is this
- 2:28man a burning stick snacked from the fire?
- 2:32So I guess this this is like, it reminds me of other things like
- 2:40Ezekiel when he had to the symbolic sense of, you know,
- 2:44taking some of the hairs and burning some of them and then
- 2:48putting some of them inside of his cloak.
- 2:49And they were like symbolic of because of sin, everything would
- 2:56be destined for fire. But this man has been saved.
- 3:00He was a burning stick snack snatched from the fire and
- 3:06Joshua was in filthy clothes. That you know, the filthy
- 3:08clothes I believe is representative of sin.
- 3:13As he stood before the Angel, the Angel said to those who were
- 3:16standing before him, take off his filthy clothes.
- 3:19And then he said to Joshua, see, I have taken away your sin.
- 3:24So who do you think that was? Perhaps Jesus.
- 3:27Maybe that was telling that to Joshua, see I have taken away
- 3:31your sin. Who else could take away a sin?
- 3:34No one but Jesus and I will put fine garments on you now.
- 3:38Fine garments were fine garments, fine linen that was
- 3:41usually the symbol of royalty, which you know, makes sense of
- 3:45Jesus taking away the sin. And then we become Co heirs with
- 3:49Jesus of the Kingdom of God. And and there is that, you know,
- 3:54when we are born again, we become children of God.
- 3:58And so it is God is royalty. And so this this fine linen,
- 4:03which is expressed several times is representative of that the
- 4:07children of God actually. And let's see so in Revelation
- 4:1419 verse 8, it says fine linen, bright and clean was given her
- 4:19to wear. Fine linen stands for the
- 4:22righteous acts of God's holy people.
- 4:26So it this in Revelation, it's very symbolic.
- 4:29It stands for the righteous acts of God's holy people.
- 4:33And this Revelation 19 eight is talking about the the bride.
- 4:41So the verse before says, let us rejoice and be glad and give him
- 4:45glory. For the wedding of the Lamb has
- 4:48come and his bride has made herself ready.
- 4:52So this is the wedding of the Lamb is Jesus and the bride is
- 4:57the is is ultimately Jerusalem and the people that will reside
- 5:03in Jerusalem, the people who have made their self ready.
- 5:07So just look at what it says here.
- 5:09And his bride has made herself ready and fine lemon, fine linen
- 5:15bright and clean was given her to wear fine linen stands for
- 5:20the righteous acts of God's holy people.
- 5:24So that is the same thing that we're seeing here for Joshua and
- 5:28it says to put the clean turban on his head.
- 5:31And the other part was that God gave a, a, a promise or a
- 5:37conditional promise to Joshua said if you do this, then I will
- 5:41do that. So if you walk in obedience to
- 5:44me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house
- 5:49and have charge of my courts and I will give you a place among
- 5:53these standing here. So it sounds like there's some
- 5:56sort of a Royal Court that he's seeing here.
- 6:00Prominent people. Listen, high priest Joshua, you
- 6:04and your associates seating seated before you who are men
- 6:09symbolic of things to come. And we'll see that symbolism in
- 6:13these next statements because it's a the that they are
- 6:17symbolic. So Joshua is a high priest and
- 6:21he is symbolic of things to come.
- 6:23And then it immediately after that it says I'm going to bring
- 6:26my servant the branch. So the branch is referring to
- 6:30Jesus and you'll see a little bit more the clarity on that.
- 6:34See the stone I have set in front of Joshua, there are 7 I's
- 6:39on that one stone and I will engrave it with an inscription
- 6:43on it. Well, seven I's on that one
- 6:46stone. This reminded me of the Book of
- 6:50Revelation again, and I thought I had that open.
- 6:55OK, yes, so in Revelation it says.
- 6:58Then I saw a lamb, which is Jesus, looking as if it had been
- 7:02slain, standing at the center of the throne.
- 7:05This is the throne of the Father, encircled by the four
- 7:10living creatures. Those are the, I think the
- 7:14Seraphim and the elders. The Lamb had 7 horns and seven
- 7:21eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all
- 7:27the earth. So the number 7 is usually
- 7:32completion, like the seven days of creation, the seven days of
- 7:37the week. Then there are 7 sevens, which
- 7:41is I think it's a shabuim where there's a period of seven, it's
- 7:46like 49 years. So 7 is a very significant
- 7:51number and it's a way of measuring things.
- 7:55It's like a completion part. So it's Jesus is the lamb had 7
- 8:00horns, 7 eyes and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of
- 8:05God sent out into all the earth, the seven spirits.
- 8:09I mean, I think there's another translation that says sevenfold
- 8:12spirits. And I was, I think I was trying
- 8:17to look that up of the different spirits that were referenced and
- 8:21I, I would need to do another study.
- 8:22I didn't do that for this one. But that's I'm not fully, I
- 8:29don't fully understand unless it's like the complete spirit,
- 8:31the Holy Spirit. But the seven horns.
- 8:35Horns are usually power and it's probably perfect power.
- 8:39And the seven eyes is is, you know, like all seeing
- 8:46omnipresent and seven spirits. This is kind of interesting too,
- 8:51because the horses that are representative of there are
- 8:58spiritual that go out sent out into all the earth.
- 9:03The seven spirits. That's what those horse horses
- 9:06are. And we see that in the chapter 1
- 9:09of Zechariah where there's the 3, three or four horses that are
- 9:14in the Myrtle trees that that are seen.
- 9:19We also see we're going to see some more horses.
- 9:23And I think Chapter 6 of the book of Zechariah and also in
- 9:28Revelation Chapter 6, where there are the the four horsemen.
- 9:33And so we see this tying these horses that go throughout the
- 9:39earth. I mean, this is something that I
- 9:40just kind of recently came across when I was actually as a
- 9:45result of some dreams that I had and the significance of horses.
- 9:50And I did find that these horses are symbolic of spiritual
- 9:55entities that go searching the earth for different purposes,
- 9:58just like this Revelation 5-6 says, which are the seven
- 10:02spirits of God sent out to all the earth.
- 10:05I was trying to number the horses just to see if they were
- 10:10the description of the horses. And I so far I only came up with
- 10:14six. So I'm not sure where the seven
- 10:16is because in Scripture the horses that are described that
- 10:19I've seen have been a red horse, a White Horse, a Black Horse,
- 10:23green horse, a dappled horse, and a sorrel horse horse.
- 10:28So those are 6 different horses read in the Book of Revelation
- 10:33has been indicative of war. White is conquering black was
- 10:39symbolic of famine or scarcity, green was associated with
- 10:44plagues. Dappled horse.
- 10:47I think you know that I think may also be a plague.
- 10:54So in chapter 6 of Zechariah it, he sees these Chariots and the
- 11:01Angel answers him. These are the four spirits of
- 11:05heaven going out from the standing in the presence of the
- 11:09Lord of the whole world. The one with the Black Horse is
- 11:12going towards the north, the one with the White Horse to the
- 11:15West, and the one with the dappled horse going to the
- 11:20South. And we're going to read about
- 11:22that in chapter 6, but I can't, I can't recall if they, the
- 11:29dappled horse, what that one specifically represents.
- 11:34But anyway, I came up with six of them and I'm not sure about
- 11:39the seven and just looking into this, but Jesus, you know, is
- 11:45described with the seven eyes and Jesus is also described as a
- 11:50stone or a rock. So let's see where we can where
- 11:56this first comes up about the stone in Isaiah 8 chapter 8
- 12:04verse 14, He will be a holy place for both Israel and Judah.
- 12:09He will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock
- 12:15that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem,
- 12:20he will be a trap and a snare. So it makes sense when you think
- 12:25about this as Jesus, because he will be a holy place for both
- 12:30Israel and Judah. He will be a stone that causes
- 12:34people to stumble. So there's a lot of Jewish
- 12:37people that didn't accept Jesus as the Messiah, so that that's
- 12:41how he causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.
- 12:47And you know, Christ is like the firm foundation.
- 12:52So he is the this is also referred to in the book of
- 12:57Daniel with that statue. There's the stone that's not cut
- 13:03or a rock that's not cut, cut from stone that crushes the toes
- 13:07of the statue. I'll have to look that up.
- 13:09But in the book of Daniel that there's another symbolism with
- 13:14Jesus being that that rock that crushes the toes, the final
- 13:18Kingdom that Daniel sees in his dream or that the king actually
- 13:22saw in his dream. Nebuchadnezzar saw it and Daniel
- 13:25interpreted the dream. So then in Isaiah chapter 28
- 13:29this is also referenced, verse 16.
- 13:33So this is what the sovereign Lord says.
- 13:35See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious
- 13:41cornerstone for a sure foundation.
- 13:45The one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
- 13:49And that is representative of Jesus, the Lamb of God.
- 13:54And see, I lay a stone in in Zion, which is Jerusalem, a
- 13:58tested stone. Jesus was tested and he remained
- 14:02sinless, a precious cornerstone for a shore foundation.
- 14:07The one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
- 14:10If we rely on Jesus, we are on a solid foundation.
- 14:15And so there is that part. And then I'm scrolling through
- 14:25in Romans Chapter 9, verse 33, he, Paul, I presume, is the one
- 14:31who says this as it is written. See, I lay a stone that causes
- 14:35people to stumble in a rock that makes them fall.
- 14:37And the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.
- 14:40So that's referenced. I the book of Isaiah is what is
- 14:44referenced there. And then first Peter also
- 14:46references this in chapter 2 verses 6 and 8.
- 14:51It says, for in Scripture it says, see, I lay a stone in
- 14:55Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who
- 14:59trusts in him will never be put to shame.
- 15:03And then in verse 8, it says, and a stone that causes people
- 15:06to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, they stumble because
- 15:10they disobey the message, which is also what they were destined
- 15:14for. And this was let's see it says
- 15:23the verse before says now to you who believe this stone is
- 15:27precious, but to those who do not believe the stone the
- 15:32builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
- 15:35So the builders it's you know, Israel, right and because God is
- 15:42building his people from Israel, he chose Israel.
- 15:48So the stone the builders rejected has become the
- 15:51cornerstone. Jesus is the foundation of
- 15:53everything but they were he was rejected by his own people.
- 15:59So let's see what else there is. So anyway, going back to chapter
- 16:073 of the book of Zechariah is God is referencing his the
- 16:15branch, which is who is Jesus. See the stone I set in front of
- 16:19you Joshua. There are seven eyes on that one
- 16:22stone and I will engrave an inscription on it says the Lord
- 16:24Almighty and I I will remove the sin of this land in a single
- 16:28day. Well, that's by Jesus.
- 16:31When you think about that. There's some other verses that I
- 16:36often think I don't know if we always, if everybody gets the
- 16:42right interpretation on these. I mean, it's close, but maybe
- 16:46it's not right because like it talks about, you know, has
- 16:51anyone, you know, I, I think it might be in, in Isaiah where it
- 16:56says they were delivered before it gives birth or being born in
- 17:03a day. Has everyone anyone ever known a
- 17:05nation to be born in a day? And everyone says that's Israel
- 17:09from 1948, I think is when Israel became a nation again.
- 17:15And everybody says, well, that happened in one day.
- 17:18And it was that May 1948 that that was the day that, you know,
- 17:23the birth of the nation. And I think that's true, but I
- 17:27don't think that's the full fulfillment of what this is
- 17:31talking about. I believe this is talking about
- 17:36when Jesus takes the final authority for the Millennium
- 17:41reign and then at that point it's a single day like his
- 17:47absolutely his his death. Well, more so I think his death
- 17:51on the cross was the day that that sins were taken away.
- 17:56They were atoned for by his death on the cross.
- 17:59But then when he returns, he is going to take the sin of the
- 18:06land in Israel and that's going to be gone in a day because he
- 18:09says he will give them, He will remove their heart of stone and
- 18:13give them a heart of flesh. And then he will put his laws on
- 18:17on their hearts and they will be his people and he will be their
- 18:21God. And so this is all going to
- 18:24happen at the time that Jesus returns.
- 18:28And so I think that's the ultimate fulfillment.
- 18:31Jesus's death did is what took away the sin.
- 18:34But I think the completion of that is when he returns and
- 18:39people are no longer into idolatry when they recognize who
- 18:43He is and He reigns as king here on earth.
- 18:47So and that day you will invite your neighbor to sit under your
- 18:52vine, and your fig tree declares the Lord Almighty.
- 18:55So I'll read through the questions and answers for
- 18:56chapter 3 and then that'll be all that we have for this.
- 19:00So why did Satan accuse Joshua the high priest?
- 19:05Satan probably accused Joshua as the representative of the entire
- 19:10nation of Israel. Why does Satan come before God?
- 19:15Satan is the adversary and approaches God to accuse God's
- 19:20people of sin. And that's found in Revelation
- 19:24chapter 12. I didn't call that up, but I
- 19:28might as well, since we're talking about it.
- 19:30It's just going to take a second.
- 19:31But there's another place too, in the book of Job, where Satan
- 19:36is before God. He's like in a counsel of God
- 19:39and he is, you know, going after Job basically he's challenging
- 19:46God with Job. So Revelation 12 verse 10 says
- 19:57then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, now have come the
- 20:01salvation and the power and the Kingdom of of our God and the
- 20:04authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers
- 20:09and sisters, who accuses them before our God, day and night
- 20:14has been hurled down and. Prior to this sentence was the
- 20:21great dragon was hurled down that ancient serpent called the
- 20:25Devil or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.
- 20:28He was hurled to the earth and his angels with him.
- 20:33So Satan has his own angels. Are his alliance of angels?
- 20:38And then the question, how was Israel a burning stick?
- 20:42The people of Israel had been snatched from the fire of the
- 20:45Babylonian exile, God's judgement, in order to carry out
- 20:49God's future purpose for them. Why was Joshua wearing filthy
- 20:55clothes? The filthy clothes represent the
- 20:58sins of the people. In place of the filthy clothes,
- 21:02Joshua, representing the nation, would be clothed in splendid
- 21:06garments, a picture of righteousness.
- 21:10What would Joshua govern? The high priest was responsible
- 21:15for overseeing the orderly activities of the temple.
- 21:19Who is the branch? The Messiah, the servant of God
- 21:22called the branch to suggest the fruitfulness of his life.
- 21:27The same analogy for the Messiah was used by other prophets that
- 21:31as well, such as Isaiah chapter 4, verse 2 and Jeremiah 23.
- 21:37Five. I should probably read those.
- 21:39I didn't have those called up either.
- 21:41But let's see, we have Isaiah 42.
- 21:48So Isaiah 4. Two, in that day the branch of
- 21:54the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the
- 21:58land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.
- 22:04Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem will be
- 22:07called holy. All who are recorded among the
- 22:12living in Jerusalem. And then it goes on to talk
- 22:16about more of what will happen in that day.
- 22:19And then we the other reference was Jeremiah 23, verse 5, so I
- 22:26will read that one too. Jeremiah 23 five The days are
- 22:34coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a
- 22:38righteous branch, a king who will reign wisely and do what is
- 22:44just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved
- 22:50and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he
- 22:55will be called the Lord, our righteous Savior.
- 23:03So that is it. And then there's one more who
- 23:07are Why sit under a vine and fig tree?
- 23:10In ancient Israel, this was a picture of the good life.
- 23:13It was their idea of heaven on earth and therefore spoke of
- 23:17abundant blessing. So that concludes chapter 3 from
- 23:21the book of Zechariah. If you're not subscribed, come
