- 0:23Speaker 3: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee. Let's Talk is
- 0:26Speaker 3: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk, Real Experience,
- 0:30Speaker 3: Real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
- 0:34Speaker 3: begin on Let's Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:38Speaker 1: This is Carl Lee with Let's Talk, and we have
- 0:40Speaker 1: in the building my co host Hollis Lewis, Hello, and uh,
- 0:46Speaker 1: the other big other go host Lisa Odi, and we
- 0:53Speaker 1: had today, ladies and gentlemen. For anybody who plays golf,
- 0:58Speaker 1: this is gonna probably be a good show where you
- 1:00Speaker 1: kind of listen to and enjoy. Lisa's got our guest
- 1:03Speaker 1: and she's going to introduce her.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Yes, I'm very proud to introduce this guest tonight. He's
- 1:08Speaker 4: fresh off the courses at the Valero Texas Open this
- 1:13Speaker 4: past last weekend in the days before, and also from Augusta, Georgia,
- 1:18Speaker 4: so he's had a busy few days. But let me
- 1:20Speaker 4: just give some bio before I introduce him. He's a
- 1:23Speaker 4: native of Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from Capitol High
- 1:26Speaker 4: School and initially played golf at Concord College for two
- 1:30Speaker 4: years before transferring to the University of North Florida, where
- 1:34Speaker 4: he earned a degree in jazz studies. Please keep that
- 1:36Speaker 4: in mind because this is going to be important later
- 1:38Speaker 4: in this podcast. He's spent eleven years with the West
- 1:41Speaker 4: Virginia Golf Association from two thousand and three to twenty fourteen,
- 1:46Speaker 4: and he eventually rose to the position of executive director.
- 1:49Speaker 4: He managed the Monday qualifiers for the Greenberg Classic, which
- 1:53Speaker 4: helped bridge his transition to the PGA Tour, and so
- 1:57Speaker 4: he is now a chief referee for the PGA Tour.
- 2:02Speaker 4: He's a rules official. And we're proud and very honored
- 2:08Speaker 4: to have Ken Tacket on the show tonight. Welcome to
- 2:10Speaker 4: the podcast, Ken.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Thanks Lisa, Hollis, carl It's it's a pleasure to join
- 2:16Speaker 5: you guys this evening.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Well, we appreciate having you. Okay, so I got a
- 2:20Speaker 2: quick question right out of the shoot. Okay, I am I.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Am a horrible golfer who who who unfortunately loves golf,
- 2:30Speaker 1: you know, but it just doesn't love me.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Back in the opening, Lisa was talking.
- 2:38Speaker 1: About like rules and regulations, and and I think there's
- 2:42Speaker 1: a there's probably like most of the people who play
- 2:47Speaker 1: golf just randomly, I don't know if they go by
- 2:51Speaker 1: those rules.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But what are some of the more critical rules.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That professional golf has, because I really don't, I truly
- 3:00Speaker 1: don't know if I have an understanding of exactly what
- 3:03Speaker 1: those rules are. Could you kind of give us an
- 3:05Speaker 1: idea of what some of those rules are and or
- 3:09Speaker 1: maybe the reasoning behind them.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Well, yeah, sure, it's the rules are based off of
- 3:16Speaker 5: two basic principles. Is you play the golf course as
- 3:20Speaker 5: you find it, and you play the golf ball as
- 3:22Speaker 5: it lies. So when you tee off the first hole,
- 3:26Speaker 5: you got what you got. And so if your golf
- 3:28Speaker 5: ball's sitting down in a in a bad lie in
- 3:32Speaker 5: the fair way, then you have to deal with that.
- 3:36Speaker 5: And all the rules are crafted around that. And if
- 3:39Speaker 5: you remember that when you play the game, that's really
- 3:43Speaker 5: you know. From there, then it gets the complexity starts
- 3:46Speaker 5: taking off. And you know, for the casual player, I
- 3:50Speaker 5: mean that's really that's really it. You play the balls
- 3:53Speaker 5: you find until it's hold, and then you go to
- 3:54Speaker 5: the next hole, and then in between here and there,
- 3:57Speaker 5: you've got bunkers, and you have penalty areas, and you
- 4:02Speaker 5: have right out of bounds, and you have yeah yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 5: web of situations, and then you have equipment standards. So
- 4:08Speaker 5: all the complexity comes after that. But is it is
- 4:12Speaker 5: basic when you get back to the original two principles
- 4:16Speaker 5: of the game of golf and.
- 4:17Speaker 1: The reality though the funny thing about the one rule
- 4:22Speaker 1: everybody tries to fluff their ball. Though every amateur is
- 4:28Speaker 1: always fluffing the ball. We do not hit it where
- 4:31Speaker 1: it lies, that's for sure. Well, I feel like we're
- 4:35Speaker 1: bearing the lead a little bit. Man, you work, you
- 4:38Speaker 1: were actually a part of the Masters this weekend, because
- 4:41Speaker 1: you tell us about that experience, and is this your
- 4:43Speaker 1: first time being official at it, and just tell us
- 4:46Speaker 1: your history with the Masters.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yeah. Sure, I've been with the PJ Tour now for
- 4:50Speaker 5: thirteen years and this is my ninth Master's tournament. The
- 4:54Speaker 5: first one I worked Patrick Reid one in twenty eighteen.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I was privileged work in twenty nineteen when Tiger Woods won,
- 5:02Speaker 5: which was unreal. And then this past you know, this
- 5:09Speaker 5: past week of you know, the Masters tournament. It's the
- 5:15Speaker 5: greatest greatest golf golf tournament in the world. Uh it's
- 5:19Speaker 5: it's magical. Everything you see on TV is that plus
- 5:24Speaker 5: ten ten X and uh our team from the PGA Tour,
- 5:29Speaker 5: you know, kind of relished the moment to support Augusta
- 5:33Speaker 5: National and uh staging what what we think is one
- 5:36Speaker 5: of the greatest sporting events every year and it's just
- 5:41Speaker 5: fun and and just.
- 5:42Speaker 2: For for the audience.
- 5:43Speaker 1: What is your like official title and what do you
- 5:46Speaker 1: officially task to do at the Masters.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Well, we're part of the rules committee and and you know,
- 5:54Speaker 5: like in other sports, like in football, you have it,
- 5:56Speaker 5: you know, you have a crew and and depending on
- 5:59Speaker 5: the side of the scope of that, like at the
- 6:02Speaker 5: Super Bowl, they actually have a secondary crew ready to
- 6:05Speaker 5: go and you know, ready to to step in at
- 6:08Speaker 5: the biggest at the biggest stage. So this is similar.
- 6:11Speaker 5: There's thirty five officials on the on the rules committee
- 6:14Speaker 5: at the Masters, which is which is big, but you
- 6:18Speaker 5: know some are some are bigger because of the ceremonial,
- 6:21Speaker 5: Like you know, you want to make sure you include
- 6:23Speaker 5: everybody from all over, but the Masters actually, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 5: they go and want the best of the best, and
- 6:28Speaker 5: uh so there's twelve of us from the PGA tour
- 6:32Speaker 5: that kind of lead the way and we support again,
- 6:34Speaker 5: we're supporting them, but we do everything for rules of
- 6:38Speaker 5: golf all the way to enforcing pace of play, to
- 6:41Speaker 5: make sure that you know, what people don't realize is
- 6:43Speaker 5: that we wanted like at the Masters last week, they
- 6:46Speaker 5: wanted to be wrapped up about ten tier so that
- 6:48Speaker 5: if we have a playoff, they were able to they
- 6:50Speaker 5: could do the green coat ceremony and everything, and so
- 6:54Speaker 5: we kind of help monitor that and manage that for
- 6:56Speaker 5: them because, as you guys know, playing the game, you
- 7:00Speaker 5: run into things when you play and it slows it down.
- 7:02Speaker 5: And as you saw, Rory McElroy had a couple of
- 7:06Speaker 5: arrant shots coming down the stretch and things got a
- 7:08Speaker 5: little slow, but we finished right on time. And that's
- 7:12Speaker 5: kind of the things that we do. Hey, Carl, I
- 7:14Speaker 5: think an interesting little side note one of my one
- 7:18Speaker 5: of my colleagues and co workers is Mark Duce Bobbik
- 7:21Speaker 5: to play football with you, and he gave me a
- 7:24Speaker 5: couple of great questions to ask you.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I love it all right, I'm ready to go turn.
- 7:33Speaker 5: All right, and he said you'll he said, you'll understand this.
- 7:37Speaker 5: He said do you think Richard Solomon is the greatest
- 7:42Speaker 5: defensive coordinator of all time?
- 7:45Speaker 1: So I'm I'm gonna preface it by saying I have
- 7:50Speaker 1: mentioned his name here in the studio many times before.
- 7:57Speaker 1: If there, if there has ever been a co that
- 8:01Speaker 1: that I felt that was not evil to coach, is
- 8:09Speaker 1: Richard Solomon.
- 8:12Speaker 4: And he and he's not listening.
- 8:15Speaker 1: It makes no difference. We don't have a we have
- 8:17Speaker 1: zero relationship. He won't even tune in. He's not even
- 8:25Speaker 1: because he's not even tuning in. He was oh my gosh,
- 8:29Speaker 1: you know, and and I've talked about him on on
- 8:32Speaker 1: the show.
- 8:32Speaker 2: You know he came in.
- 8:36Speaker 1: And Denny Green put him as a as as a
- 8:41Speaker 1: dB coach. My it was like my last year, I
- 8:44Speaker 1: think there, oh my gosh, and he just he was
- 8:48Speaker 1: he was horror bold.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So so that that's how we can answer that one.
- 8:56Speaker 2: That whatever that.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Deuce Bob says to me, he goes say Pete Carroll
- 9:05Speaker 5: or Richard Solomon, you had to go the other way. Anyways,
- 9:15Speaker 5: this is obviously he's one of he does a lot
- 9:18Speaker 5: of our TV rules analysts. So what he uh, he's
- 9:23Speaker 5: he's amazing at what he does. And he spends time
- 9:26Speaker 5: on CBS and NBC. So when we're in a situation
- 9:29Speaker 5: with rules of golf and and everybody and their brothers
- 9:33Speaker 5: confused about what's going on, Deuce will kind of explain
- 9:36Speaker 5: it to the to the world. And uh so again
- 9:39Speaker 5: he's He's like, oh, you're going to be on sea
- 9:41Speaker 5: leaves all kinds of stories that we can talk about.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Later for sure, and please let him know. I said, hello,
- 9:50Speaker 2: all right, so I have a question for you.
- 9:53Speaker 4: We're going to take this train back to the station,
- 9:56Speaker 4: start over on call.
- 9:57Speaker 6: No.
- 9:58Speaker 4: This that was great, It was actually great. So so
- 10:00Speaker 4: so Kim, before the tour, you spent eleven years with
- 10:04Speaker 4: the West Virginia Golf Association. So so, what is the
- 10:08Speaker 4: biggest difference you've found between officiating at like a regional
- 10:12Speaker 4: level with the w v g A and then the
- 10:15Speaker 4: international stage of the PGA Tour.
- 10:18Speaker 5: That's a great question. I mean, I think I think
- 10:20Speaker 5: the again, the basic it's the game, you know, so like, uh,
- 10:24Speaker 5: it's the game of golf. You you you run into
- 10:27Speaker 5: similar rule situations at all else, whether you're a junior golfer,
- 10:33Speaker 5: women senior, all the way up to the Masters tournament.
- 10:37Speaker 5: The difference is the players in the magnitude of what's
- 10:43Speaker 5: going on is really really what is different is you
- 10:47Speaker 5: walk into a ruling and you've got two cameras, six microphones,
- 10:54Speaker 5: and the players obviously not in a good spot if
- 10:57Speaker 5: they're calling for an official to assistant, and so you
- 11:01Speaker 5: kind of have that scrutiny and the immediate kind of,
- 11:04Speaker 5: you know, a real life test on national television. So
- 11:12Speaker 5: which is fine. I always just try to slow things
- 11:14Speaker 5: down the stuff that I learned here at the WVGA,
- 11:17Speaker 5: which you know, you really get into some crazy stuff
- 11:20Speaker 5: with twelve and under all they hit it everywhere and
- 11:22Speaker 5: they've got all kinds of stuff always heeded, and they
- 11:25Speaker 5: think that their kids in that tiger would So you
- 11:28Speaker 5: learn how to manage those things. Women senior to me
- 11:32Speaker 5: was always a fun thing because they were so inquisitive
- 11:36Speaker 5: and they they they were so curious about what and
- 11:40Speaker 5: why the rules are the way they are, and so
- 11:42Speaker 5: it made you really have to explain, you know, and
- 11:46Speaker 5: you couldn't you couldn't fudge them. They would know that
- 11:48Speaker 5: you you weren't confident, So you had to know how
- 11:50Speaker 5: to work your way around the book and to reference
- 11:53Speaker 5: the rules, and so it really prepared me so that
- 11:57Speaker 5: when now you know, the players on the PGA Tour
- 11:59Speaker 5: and you know, at the major championships, they have a
- 12:02Speaker 5: lot of respect for you know, for me and our team,
- 12:06Speaker 5: so that they feel confident that the answer they're getting
- 12:09Speaker 5: is accurate and it's typically well explained and you know,
- 12:14Speaker 5: taking emotion out of it. That's the That's the good
- 12:16Speaker 5: thing about a referee in professional golf is while it
- 12:19Speaker 5: is intense and there is emotion, it's not bang bang
- 12:22Speaker 5: like you know, taking the charge in basketball or you
- 12:26Speaker 5: know the collisions that you see in football. It's nothing
- 12:29Speaker 5: like that. It's it's more, it's more cerebral, and it's
- 12:32Speaker 5: a typically some complexity to it, I guess again if
- 12:35Speaker 5: you're involved. And so we try to lean in using technology,
- 12:38Speaker 5: using Marcus Public and his team from our video review center,
- 12:42Speaker 5: to make sure that we're one hundred percent accurate and
- 12:44Speaker 5: knowing what we're the decision we're making.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And that was my question because I know we've seen
- 12:50Speaker 1: sort of the periferation of technology, particularly in baseball. We're
- 12:54Speaker 1: seeing a lot this year with the challenge in the
- 12:55Speaker 1: calls within the strike zone and obviously what we've seen
- 12:58Speaker 1: in football, what if from your beginning stages of doing
- 13:03Speaker 1: this to now, what are the technology advances that you've
- 13:06Speaker 1: seen that actually, you know, help the game and help
- 13:09Speaker 1: you do your job more efficiently.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a great question, Hallis. I think that what
- 13:17Speaker 5: we try to do is to constantly look around the
- 13:20Speaker 5: corner and so that we're on the cutting edge of
- 13:23Speaker 5: technology as much as we can be. Also, you know,
- 13:26Speaker 5: in basketball, it's a ninety four foot court, so they're
- 13:29Speaker 5: able to have six cameras that can really cover a lot. Well,
- 13:33Speaker 5: we have two hundred and ten acres on a golf
- 13:36Speaker 5: course with you know, eighteen basically eighteen different arenas, and
- 13:40Speaker 5: you know you've trees and wildlife and all the things
- 13:43Speaker 5: that go on along with it that make it just
- 13:45Speaker 5: a little more a little different armies of folks with cameras,
- 13:53Speaker 5: and that's what we rely on, is that video. We
- 13:55Speaker 5: have one hundred and fifty stationary cameras around the golf
- 13:58Speaker 5: course and we use it shot link technology to score
- 14:01Speaker 5: our tournaments and then we're able to tap into that
- 14:04Speaker 5: system that you know four K. It's unbelievable. And you know,
- 14:11Speaker 5: big brothers always watch and I always remind the players
- 14:13Speaker 5: that when they get mad or they throw something or
- 14:16Speaker 5: you know whatever, you just say, hey, just remember we
- 14:20Speaker 5: have cameras, so let's make sure we have everything right.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I don't really want to get into that. You know,
- 14:25Speaker 5: the game of golf is all about integrity, so you
- 14:27Speaker 5: you they typically are spot on it. We don't have
- 14:31Speaker 5: very We have very few the situations where we're dealing
- 14:34Speaker 5: with having to go to cameras to maybe disprove someone's
- 14:40Speaker 5: someone's recollection of the facts. So to your point, we
- 14:47Speaker 5: constantly are using technology. It has made it made our
- 14:49Speaker 5: job way more efficient. So for example, I'm setting out
- 14:54Speaker 5: and I'm on the golf course kind of waiting. There's
- 14:58Speaker 5: typically eight to ten of us on the golf of course,
- 15:00Speaker 5: and we have someone with each group that is a
- 15:03Speaker 5: volunteer that kind of helps scoring. The player will say, hey,
- 15:06Speaker 5: can you call for an official, and then it'll come
- 15:09Speaker 5: over the radio, Hey we have a ruling at four green,
- 15:11Speaker 5: for example, Well at that point, do Spobik and his
- 15:15Speaker 5: team go to the cameras And then as you're driving
- 15:18Speaker 5: to that fourth green, hey, can it looks like it's
- 15:21Speaker 5: going to be interference from a sprinkler head or whatever
- 15:25Speaker 5: it is. So as you're going into the ruling. You're
- 15:28Speaker 5: already armed with what you're running into, so it just
- 15:30Speaker 5: makes so much quicker. You're not having to ask question
- 15:32Speaker 5: what happened? Who saw this? Hey, missus Johnson over in
- 15:35Speaker 5: the corner, what did what did you see? And you know,
- 15:38Speaker 5: one thing that we've learned is the volunteers and the
- 15:42Speaker 5: spectators they don't they're not they're not the best witness
- 15:48Speaker 5: their lion I sometimes to prevent them from telling us
- 15:52Speaker 5: what happened.
- 15:53Speaker 1: But I okay, So I'm trying to I'm trying to
- 15:55Speaker 1: figure out like, okay, like how do you do like
- 15:59Speaker 1: every read every shot like like because you're you know,
- 16:03Speaker 1: everybody's moving to the next hole. How do you how
- 16:07Speaker 1: do you manage to get each each each shot that
- 16:12Speaker 1: each golfer is.
- 16:16Speaker 2: It's it's hitting. How do you how do you how
- 16:18Speaker 2: do you manage that?
- 16:20Speaker 5: Well, we have a camera at every tee, we have
- 16:22Speaker 5: two cameras in the fairway, and we have three cameras
- 16:25Speaker 5: at every green, and then and then plus supplemental and
- 16:28Speaker 5: then at any moment on the golf course, there's between
- 16:31Speaker 5: nine and eleven golf balls in the air at once,
- 16:34Speaker 5: So someone's playing from one someone's playing from seven, someone's
- 16:37Speaker 5: playing from six. You know, at some point there's there's
- 16:40Speaker 5: nine to eleven golf balls in motion. So these these
- 16:43Speaker 5: camera systems, it's a lot of the technology from the
- 16:46Speaker 5: Department of Defense that that would that would track like
- 16:49Speaker 5: the missiles, like the missile systems of Patriot missiles that
- 16:52Speaker 5: follow the baff the golf ball. So there as soon
- 16:55Speaker 5: as the golf ball goes, we know the spin rate,
- 16:57Speaker 5: we know the trajectory, we know the probability to go.
- 17:01Speaker 5: I mean, it's unbelievable. If you have, Carl, if you
- 17:02Speaker 5: had it, you would probably shave fifteen strokes off your
- 17:05Speaker 5: score because.
- 17:05Speaker 2: You would never have to.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I don't know if like, I
- 17:12Speaker 1: don't know, if you're not on and and and telling
- 17:15Speaker 1: us this, I don't know how anybody could have assumed
- 17:19Speaker 1: that that's the type of structure that is following the technology,
- 17:24Speaker 1: the technology that's following golf. I mean, it has to
- 17:28Speaker 1: be probably the best of anything of any other sport.
- 17:36Speaker 5: It is a baseball actually, they they be the only
- 17:39Speaker 5: other challenge. Yeah, well they use the same Uh, they
- 17:42Speaker 5: use the same type of technology. If if you watch
- 17:45Speaker 5: their their like when like when someone hits it. Uh
- 17:48Speaker 5: uh hits it hits it from the bat like whether
- 17:50Speaker 5: it's where it's drawling or cutting or you know, they
- 17:53Speaker 5: can they can track the same type of spin rate
- 17:55Speaker 5: and it's the same technology we use. But the difference
- 17:57Speaker 5: is it's one field, one ball that they have to
- 18:01Speaker 5: worry about, where like you said, I mean, you got
- 18:04Speaker 5: seventy some guys playing at one time and you're trying
- 18:07Speaker 5: to that that's the complexity that we deal with is
- 18:11Speaker 5: two hundred and some acres and seventy some golfers playing
- 18:14Speaker 5: nine to eleven golf balls in the air at once
- 18:17Speaker 5: compared to you know, the other sports where it's one
- 18:19Speaker 5: one ball. And and that's why, like you said, the
- 18:24Speaker 5: technology is just it's just outrageous and it's it's it's
- 18:27Speaker 5: so fun to be a part of because it's constantly changing,
- 18:30Speaker 5: its constantly getting better. We have a we have a
- 18:33Speaker 5: drone that our broadcast team was recognized for for that
- 18:40Speaker 5: technology and in interaction or innovation with the sports where
- 18:44Speaker 5: the drone is hovering and it captures the golf ball
- 18:48Speaker 5: flight from origination to until to the end endpoint and
- 18:53Speaker 5: it's an amazing it's amazing. I mean, you can watch
- 18:56Speaker 5: it happen.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Drones have become a major part of sports all around.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and almost literally everything, Like you've got to have
- 19:06Speaker 1: that if as coverage of the sport.
- 19:11Speaker 5: Oh yeah, absolutely, and last week was no difference. And
- 19:16Speaker 5: you know, the NBC they deploys six i think six
- 19:20Speaker 5: drones in San Antonio when we were there for the
- 19:22Speaker 5: Texas Open. And they have the high velocity kind of
- 19:29Speaker 5: uh you know, speed drones that that they can get
- 19:32Speaker 5: the really quick shots and go around the golf course
- 19:34Speaker 5: and kind of give you that amazing perspective. And then
- 19:37Speaker 5: they have the high flying drones that capture these beautiful
- 19:40Speaker 5: aerials that you know, back in the day it would
- 19:42Speaker 5: be the Good Year of blimp would be flying over
- 19:44Speaker 5: or the stationary you know in a plane or something well,
- 19:48Speaker 5: I mean other than Goodyear occasionally just because of that,
- 19:51Speaker 5: it's such a good sponsorship. Those drones are just capturing
- 19:54Speaker 5: magical shots. They're able to go down to the tree
- 19:56Speaker 5: line and go above and show show people views that
- 20:00Speaker 5: they've never seen before. Last week of the Masters, there
- 20:03Speaker 5: was a couple the drone shots that I saw. It
- 20:05Speaker 5: just yeah, it's just beautiful.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Yeah, So I'm gonna I'm going to start the trivia
- 20:10Speaker 4: game with with Ken Tackett here, and we're gonna We're
- 20:13Speaker 4: gonna somebody might be asked this question that's listening to
- 20:15Speaker 4: the podcast. So we're going to go back to your
- 20:17Speaker 4: bio Ken, that you know we talked about or I
- 20:21Speaker 4: talked about you transferring to the University of North Florida
- 20:24Speaker 4: where you earned a degree in jazz studies. And so
- 20:28Speaker 4: I'm not sure how many people out there in in
- 20:31Speaker 4: our world knows that knows this, at least people listen
- 20:33Speaker 4: to the podcast that you were actually a professional jazz
- 20:37Speaker 4: drummer at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. That's at one
- 20:40Speaker 4: point before entering the golf world. Your your band also
- 20:45Speaker 4: appeared in some films, The Legend of Bagger Vance and
- 20:49Speaker 4: Ocean's Eleven Right. So, so how do people and the
- 20:53Speaker 4: players that you work with react when they find out
- 20:56Speaker 4: that you know their referee has this background and in
- 20:58Speaker 4: film and professional music.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Well, I'm only outdone by Mark News Bobbin, who played
- 21:04Speaker 5: in the NFL. When people ask hey, how do you
- 21:10Speaker 5: get this job, I'm like, well, either play in the
- 21:12Speaker 5: NFL or play drums. Oh, it's it's great. I mean
- 21:18Speaker 5: one thing you said, I I did not play golf
- 21:20Speaker 5: at Concord for two years. I went to for two years.
- 21:25Speaker 5: My roommate and principal at Capitol High School, John Anderson,
- 21:28Speaker 5: was on the golf team. So we played. We played
- 21:32Speaker 5: high school together, and uh, but I left and went
- 21:35Speaker 5: and got it.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I was.
- 21:37Speaker 5: I was a good golfer and a great drummer. So
- 21:40Speaker 5: I followed and and played professionally playing drums and and
- 21:45Speaker 5: and we did.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Uh we we.
- 21:48Speaker 5: I still played all the way up through COVID. I was,
- 21:53Speaker 5: you know, trying to kind of balance to still stay
- 21:56Speaker 5: keep you know, keep my foot in the game of
- 21:58Speaker 5: playing music. Obviously, Bob Thompson is one of my Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 5: I just saw him my last one was in town,
- 22:09Speaker 5: and uh, he's just you know, he's been in my life,
- 22:12Speaker 5: my whole life playing music, and he's been you know,
- 22:14Speaker 5: it's like an idol. So I was able his drummer,
- 22:18Speaker 5: Timmy Courts, would play. Yeah, absolutely, so he Timmy had
- 22:23Speaker 5: some stuff going on, and so I was able to
- 22:25Speaker 5: fill in for Timmy for three or four months and
- 22:28Speaker 5: spend time playing with Bob, and you know, to do
- 22:29Speaker 5: that from time to time, which is cool because you
- 22:32Speaker 5: know it's I was able to enjoy that moment and
- 22:36Speaker 5: then Landau Murphy when he won the America has Got Talent.
- 22:41Speaker 5: I was able to play with him for almost eleven
- 22:44Speaker 5: years doing doing things all around.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Wow.
- 22:47Speaker 5: And so you know, just really really fortunate to have
- 22:52Speaker 5: that part of my life. And you know, I you know,
- 22:55Speaker 5: being involved in in a I think one of the
- 22:58Speaker 5: greatest games with the GLF often to play music, especially
- 23:02Speaker 5: jazz and R and B, which is what you know,
- 23:04Speaker 5: the type of music that I love. And uh, very fortunate.
- 23:08Speaker 1: So so let me ask you, just on the trivia train,
- 23:10Speaker 1: what is the greatest shot that you've ever seen?
- 23:14Speaker 2: Personal?
- 23:15Speaker 1: So all your years working, whether it was at the
- 23:18Speaker 1: the amateurs on the pg A, what is the greatest
- 23:21Speaker 1: shot you've ever.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Great question is a great question, by the way, I
- 23:30Speaker 5: love it. You guys are like all everybody rally Gate
- 23:34Speaker 5: was what's the best rule.
- 23:37Speaker 4: We'll keep you on your taste, that's for sure.
- 23:41Speaker 5: I would say, I bet I'm gonna give you two.
- 23:45Speaker 1: If that's okay, you can give me like you're just
- 23:47Speaker 1: your greatest and you can kind of give me maybe
- 23:49Speaker 1: your most dramatic that the one that had the most impact,
- 23:52Speaker 1: like on that particular, whether it's like for the win
- 23:54Speaker 1: or whatever.
- 23:57Speaker 5: The man I've seen, I've been so fortunate to see
- 24:01Speaker 5: some crazy stuff locally. We were at the West Virginia
- 24:07Speaker 5: Open at Edgewood. Pat Carter. Pat Carter from Huntington hits
- 24:14Speaker 5: this kind of low, slicy shot at number ten, boom
- 24:19Speaker 5: hole in one, right, you know, right in competition, which
- 24:23Speaker 5: was again nothing you know, not on television, not in
- 24:27Speaker 5: front of a bunch of people, but it was just
- 24:29Speaker 5: the way that it went in. It was just it
- 24:31Speaker 5: just to be there and to the impact and everything
- 24:33Speaker 5: that was going on that the competition was was awesome.
- 24:35Speaker 5: And Pat is, you know, great great golfer from West Virginia,
- 24:44Speaker 5: but in the professional realm, so I'm one of my
- 24:50Speaker 5: roles is I'm chief referee at the Phoenix Open, the
- 24:52Speaker 5: Waste Management Phoenix Open, which is the biggest, most crazy
- 24:57Speaker 5: golf tournament in the world. I mean, it's two hundred
- 24:59Speaker 5: thousand people. It's just awesome. And I typically sat at
- 25:04Speaker 5: sixteen Green where all of the shenanigans go on and
- 25:08Speaker 5: just kind of be there.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Yes they do.
- 25:10Speaker 5: And we had a whole one day before and the
- 25:14Speaker 5: place went crazy, and so I wanted to be there
- 25:17Speaker 5: and just to kind of see what's going on. And
- 25:18Speaker 5: the second day, Carlos Ortiz hits makes a hole one,
- 25:24Speaker 5: and I mean the place just goes bonkers. I mean,
- 25:28Speaker 5: beer flying everywhere. That was that was pretty amazing. And
- 25:33Speaker 5: it's the same I was watching Tiger Woods finish at
- 25:36Speaker 5: the Masters in nineteen hitting that approach hot. Well, it
- 25:40Speaker 5: wasn't anything you know of a whole one or whole out.
- 25:45Speaker 5: It was just it was just magical.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Man.
- 25:48Speaker 5: I mean, to have the return of you know, arguably
- 25:52Speaker 5: the greatest golfer of all time from from all all
- 25:55Speaker 5: of his injuries and everything going on to win the
- 25:57Speaker 5: Masters in nineteen and before COVID, you know, and I
- 26:03Speaker 5: mean it was just I mean people just screaming. I
- 26:05Speaker 5: mean in that place, it's like typically the decorma is
- 26:08Speaker 5: just not and it was just chanting Tiger.
- 26:14Speaker 2: And you know what's funny about all that too.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Typically, you know, if I'm out on the course, like
- 26:20Speaker 1: we're all talking about, you got to be quiet, you know,
- 26:22Speaker 1: you got to be quiet.
- 26:23Speaker 2: But it really isn't always that way now.
- 26:26Speaker 1: According I'm sure when they get ready to take a
- 26:29Speaker 1: swing and all that kind of stuff, but to hear
- 26:31Speaker 1: you talk about like the celebration of it, Like that's
- 26:34Speaker 1: not really even something that I think I would I've
- 26:37Speaker 1: ever even really seen.
- 26:39Speaker 5: Oh man, y'all gotta come out to Phoenix if you
- 26:42Speaker 5: want to see. I mean, it is. It's crazy. It's
- 26:45Speaker 5: so much fun. And they do they the fans like
- 26:48Speaker 5: last week. So Augusta doesn't allow cell phones or into
- 26:52Speaker 5: the to the tournament, so everyone's engaged. You see people
- 26:55Speaker 5: having conversation and you hear applause, you know, which you
- 26:59Speaker 5: don't you don't think about that. But people get their hands,
- 27:02Speaker 5: you know, they got the cameras. Everyone's wanting to video everything. Yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 5: and there it's just your presence and you're clapping and
- 27:08Speaker 5: you're acknowledging you know, not only you know, not only
- 27:12Speaker 5: the great shots, but you know, the good shots. The
- 27:14Speaker 5: respect for the number one player walking to the tee,
- 27:18Speaker 5: that they acknowledge that Rory micro Roy winning the Glans
- 27:21Speaker 5: Brand Slam last year. I mean, it's just I don't know.
- 27:25Speaker 5: I try to take all of it in and not
- 27:27Speaker 5: take stuff for granted and to kind of just just
- 27:30Speaker 5: see the different things going on.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and with the no cell phones, I went to
- 27:33Speaker 1: a Dave Chappelle concert a couple of years ago, and
- 27:36Speaker 1: you know, you had to lock your cell phone up,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and it really is. I think that you really, if
- 27:42Speaker 1: you don't have your cell phone with you and they're
- 27:44Speaker 1: actually at an event, whether it's a sporting an event
- 27:46Speaker 1: or a show or whatever, you really it's almost a
- 27:49Speaker 1: different different experience now because we're so used to just
- 27:53Speaker 1: mildlestly just kind of looking at our cell phone even
- 27:55Speaker 1: when we don't have anything to look at.
- 27:57Speaker 2: So that's actually I like.
- 28:01Speaker 5: The mindless scroll. Yeah, Bruno, we saw Bruno Mars in
- 28:05Speaker 5: Vegas the same way and he actually sang a song
- 28:08Speaker 5: about you know, I took your cell phone and it
- 28:11Speaker 5: was it was amazing and it was all about but
- 28:13Speaker 5: it was all about engagement and just to join the
- 28:15Speaker 5: moment with the people you're with. And uh and I
- 28:18Speaker 5: kind of applaud the Augusta for you know, because you know,
- 28:21Speaker 5: you get pressure from people like well what about this?
- 28:24Speaker 5: And so they have payphones that are you know, free
- 28:26Speaker 5: pay like quote unquote paphons, but free phones all over
- 28:29Speaker 5: the golf course that you can stop and check in
- 28:31Speaker 5: with people, and it's it's it is. I think it's cool.
- 28:35Speaker 5: I applaud the like like Chappelle people.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Like that to do that.
- 28:40Speaker 4: So I'm going to get a little a little serious
- 28:43Speaker 4: now and and and kind of go back to to
- 28:45Speaker 4: to your your position with the PGA. And I read
- 28:48Speaker 4: somewhere and please correct me if I'm wrong, but it
- 28:50Speaker 4: said that you know, you're on the road roughly like
- 28:52Speaker 4: two hundred nights a year, and obviously if you're doing both,
- 28:56Speaker 4: you know, Augusta and the Texas open in one weekend,
- 28:59Speaker 4: that that's probably pretty close to the correct numbers. So
- 29:03Speaker 4: so how do you and your family can how do
- 29:06Speaker 4: you manage to balance your you know, your personal and
- 29:10Speaker 4: your work life with this type of type of schedule.
- 29:14Speaker 5: Well, I mean that's a great question. I think that
- 29:18Speaker 5: you involve your family in what you do, you don't
- 29:23Speaker 5: And it also doesn't define me like I mean, it's
- 29:25Speaker 5: I love, I'm fortunately I've got one of the greatest
- 29:28Speaker 5: jobs in the world. But it's it's you know, it's
- 29:31Speaker 5: it's what I do. It's not who I am. And
- 29:33Speaker 5: so I try to remember that. I mean, sometimes it's hard,
- 29:36Speaker 5: you know, because you want to be invested and you
- 29:38Speaker 5: love what you do and you want to be the
- 29:39Speaker 5: best you can be. We always take a trip to
- 29:42Speaker 5: the US Open. It's always Fatursday Sunday, and so the
- 29:46Speaker 5: week after the US Open we typically do something as
- 29:48Speaker 5: a family. I've always you know, you know, my wife
- 29:52Speaker 5: was able to go with me down last week to Augusta.
- 29:55Speaker 5: So to be able to experience it and to share
- 29:58Speaker 5: that experience I think some important. And then she is, uh,
- 30:03Speaker 5: my wife's you know, I'm so lucky. She's very supportive,
- 30:09Speaker 5: and she has a lot of stuff that she does
- 30:11Speaker 5: here in Charleston. She's active in the community and she
- 30:14Speaker 5: does things. She has a friend group, and so when
- 30:17Speaker 5: we're together, we enjoy the time and and it's uh,
- 30:21Speaker 5: it's just something you have to you both have to
- 30:23Speaker 5: be all in on because it is difficult. But it's
- 30:27Speaker 5: always been that way kind of with us, like in
- 30:28Speaker 5: the music world as well, and even with the West
- 30:30Speaker 5: Virginia Officer station. You know, while I might have been
- 30:33Speaker 5: in Morgantown, I still went home, you know, So it's
- 30:36Speaker 5: it might be two and a half hours or twelve
- 30:38Speaker 5: and a half hours, you're still not home. And so
- 30:40Speaker 5: knowing how to be prepared for those those long time,
- 30:43Speaker 5: those long trips is uh, you know, it's good it's good.
- 30:46Speaker 5: It's a great question, Lisa, you get all the good.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Just one more, one more question at least for me.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Like again, I don't know how much you can get
- 30:55Speaker 1: into this, But so I was watching uh, the you know,
- 30:59Speaker 1: sort of the pre Master stuff and just you know,
- 31:01Speaker 1: all the hoop lie around it. They was talking about
- 31:04Speaker 1: John Daly. Now what I didn't know is that he
- 31:07Speaker 1: kind of sets up a little booth across the streets
- 31:10Speaker 1: to sell and all that sort of stuff like that.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Why And I also didn't know, like not getting it.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I wasn't for sure like if they said he was
- 31:19Speaker 1: banned or he just doesn't play in that specific tournament.
- 31:23Speaker 2: So is that is that true?
- 31:24Speaker 5: Am I?
- 31:25Speaker 2: Am I on the right path there? Or am all? Well?
- 31:28Speaker 5: No, no, I mean a lot of it's fight some
- 31:30Speaker 5: of it. So the Master's Tournament is an invitational that
- 31:34Speaker 5: you you learned to come each year. If you won
- 31:36Speaker 5: the Masters, then you're typically extended in the invitation, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 5: every year. So someone like Jose Maria Olivable who won
- 31:45Speaker 5: you know, a long time ago, and you know the
- 31:50Speaker 5: Freddie Couples won, Gosh, I don't nineteen ninety ninety one.
- 31:54Speaker 5: So he still plays. So did you kind of have
- 31:56Speaker 5: that cool connection to the to the to the senior
- 32:01Speaker 5: golfers legacy can correct And and so John won the
- 32:08Speaker 5: British Open Championship and the PJA Championship. He's obviously one
- 32:12Speaker 5: of the most famous and popular golfers in the game.
- 32:15Speaker 5: And so therefore he goes to Augusta every year and
- 32:19Speaker 5: he kind of does a little bit of a road
- 32:21Speaker 5: show where he sometimes with his friends, he signs autographs,
- 32:25Speaker 5: he does you know, he does all those things. He
- 32:27Speaker 5: monetizes his his likeness, but at the same time, he
- 32:31Speaker 5: celebrates the game that he loves. I mean, you know,
- 32:34Speaker 5: he's he's obviously a fun party and kind of guy.
- 32:36Speaker 2: He's one of.
- 32:38Speaker 5: One, uh, but he also respects the game and he
- 32:42Speaker 5: he loves being a part of the kind of the
- 32:44Speaker 5: the whole world of golf come to Augusta. Oh yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 5: So and by the way, James Brown is from Augusta.
- 32:53Speaker 5: So that's I'm like down do all that stuff.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Oh a goat to We're about to let you go, Cam.
- 33:01Speaker 4: But I just I just have one one more question
- 33:03Speaker 4: for you, and that is it's concerning Christmas cards from
- 33:07Speaker 4: Davis Love the Third. Do you get those every year
- 33:10Speaker 4: after the Honda Classic.
- 33:16Speaker 5: You did your homework.
- 33:19Speaker 2: A little bits.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Oh I love this, but please please just just do
- 33:25Speaker 4: a little condensed like you know, narration of what happened.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Oh yeah, look, you know when I first started out,
- 33:33Speaker 5: I had look like in West Virginia, we don't have
- 33:37Speaker 5: fire ants like they do in the South. And we're
- 33:40Speaker 5: down there and Davis has a ball that's up against
- 33:45Speaker 5: tree and his only play is to kind of chip
- 33:47Speaker 5: out sideways, and he's trying to look at it and
- 33:52Speaker 5: see what he can do. And he's like, can I
- 33:54Speaker 5: think I've got fire ants here? And I'm like, well,
- 33:57Speaker 5: I don't. I don't. I don't see them. I don't
- 33:59Speaker 5: see anything. We have these little tricks where we can
- 34:01Speaker 5: kind of check to see if there's fire ants. You
- 34:02Speaker 5: drop something beside it and they jump out like they're
- 34:05Speaker 5: ready to fight, and you kind of know, okay, these
- 34:07Speaker 5: are fires these are not sleepy and uh And I'm
- 34:11Speaker 5: like with Davis, you're from Georgia. What do you think
- 34:13Speaker 5: He says, I think I'll play the ball, And so
- 34:16Speaker 5: he didn't take the drop, so it was good. Da
- 34:20Speaker 5: Davis is one of the legends in the game of
- 34:24Speaker 5: of our game and he's we have a great relationship.
- 34:29Speaker 5: I've got doctor tell stories and stories and stories. I yeah, yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 5: that's good.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Well, Ken, we appreciate you coming on man, and and
- 34:39Speaker 1: best of luck, and hopefully we'll get you back again soon.
- 34:43Speaker 5: Absolutely, thank you so much for having me.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Get some rest.
- 34:48Speaker 1: All Right, all right, ladies, gentlemen, we're gonna take a

- 35:49Speaker 2: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are back. Man. Ken
- 35:55Speaker 2: was great, awesome man.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's just great that, like we have somebody
- 35:59Speaker 1: that's from charge that you know, went professional in sports
- 36:04Speaker 1: a different way. I think too often we discourage kids. Well,
- 36:07Speaker 1: you got to have a plan, be da data if
- 36:10Speaker 1: you are if you like sports, if you love sports,
- 36:13Speaker 1: and even if you don't have the talent or acumen
- 36:15Speaker 1: to actually physically make it to play at the next level,
- 36:18Speaker 1: there's a pathway for you to work at the Yeah,
- 36:21Speaker 1: there's so much there's so many other options other than
- 36:24Speaker 1: just playing that I don't know if we communicate that,
- 36:28Speaker 1: we don't back out to the kids and even the
- 36:31Speaker 1: young men who are let's say, even in college.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Yeah, and he's such a multi talented guy. I mean
- 36:37Speaker 4: you hear about like his degree. I mean he didn't
- 36:39Speaker 4: even really play college golf, right, I mean, he just
- 36:42Speaker 4: kind of played jazz that you know, got that degree
- 36:45Speaker 4: and and just kind of fell into the golf world.
- 36:48Speaker 4: So it just told I mean, it kind of just
- 36:49Speaker 4: proves that whatever your dreams are, just follow them and
- 36:52Speaker 4: you can make them happen it and he.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Falls into a spot that we don't even think about.
- 36:59Speaker 1: You know that nobody's even I never even heard of,
- 37:02Speaker 1: like I guess I should have, but I just never
- 37:04Speaker 1: heard of like a golf official. Well yeah, like you
- 37:08Speaker 1: see all these people out there, but you don't really
- 37:10Speaker 1: know what their title is, and you're not really paying
- 37:12Speaker 1: any attention. You're just watching the shot and watching somebody
- 37:15Speaker 1: swing and trying to figure out if you can learn
- 37:17Speaker 1: to swing like that, and you don't.
- 37:20Speaker 2: We don't dive into it to see all of the
- 37:23Speaker 2: roles that are available there. And there's a bunch of roles.
- 37:26Speaker 2: And I think we have to do a better job
- 37:28Speaker 2: of communication. I think so too.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And before we close out, here we go all right, yes, yes,
- 37:36Speaker 1: here we go? When when when you start? Okay, so
- 37:42Speaker 1: if you if you're starting to talk about somebody who's
- 37:45Speaker 1: going to be the goat, right m h. No matter
- 37:49Speaker 1: what the sport is, there has to be there has
- 37:54Speaker 1: to be a social aspect of that because you for
- 38:00Speaker 1: people to even vote you as that person, they may
- 38:04Speaker 1: see your game, but they may see my game, but
- 38:07Speaker 1: then they see Hollis's game, and then I'm I'm not
- 38:10Speaker 1: necessarily I don't know, personable, all these other things that
- 38:14Speaker 1: I don't do, and they go they lean more.
- 38:17Speaker 2: To holler like green type of thing.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Yes, yes, and and I think, I think, I think
- 38:24Speaker 1: what we have in basketball, I cannot okay, I cannot
- 38:34Speaker 1: ever give Lebron the goat. Why he's he's just not
- 38:42Speaker 1: he he Okay, I'm every single.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Time it's a personal go ahead this week.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Every time, every time that I see that, every time
- 38:56Speaker 1: that I see the flops. Now, my my question is
- 39:00Speaker 1: you watched him flop and you don't see anybody hit him.
- 39:04Speaker 1: You see him holding his he doesn't know if he
- 39:06Speaker 1: needs to hold his arm or his shoulder.
- 39:09Speaker 2: You see those kind of things. Does that look like
- 39:13Speaker 2: the goat?
- 39:17Speaker 4: But his records tell another story, you can. I mean,
- 39:22Speaker 4: I know he's been in the game a long time,
- 39:24Speaker 4: but and he.
- 39:25Speaker 1: And he is by he is by far one of
- 39:28Speaker 1: the greatest players ever to play the game. But when
- 39:32Speaker 1: you what you do is you he's messing that up
- 39:37Speaker 1: with those things, Hollis. I think it's like one of
- 39:42Speaker 1: those things when we when I don't think he again
- 39:47Speaker 1: and I and I hear what you're saying, And I
- 39:48Speaker 1: think there's a lot of things problematic with like Lebron
- 39:52Speaker 1: as far as his maybe style of play, the comments
- 39:56Speaker 1: he said about men fits and Milwaukee recently, that's those
- 39:59Speaker 1: and that that's you know, that ain't a good look.
- 40:01Speaker 1: But I think when you talk about a guy like
- 40:04Speaker 1: Kareem or when you talk about a guy like Jordan,
- 40:06Speaker 1: there's a mystique around them, right, there's a mistique that
- 40:10Speaker 1: exists that not that they were perfect or they played
- 40:14Speaker 1: the game perfect, but they played in an era and
- 40:18Speaker 1: they played in a style of game in which you
- 40:22Speaker 1: had to be rough and tumbled like Lebron. Excuse me,
- 40:24Speaker 1: Jordan had to go lift weights to play against those
- 40:26Speaker 1: Pistons teams.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Right, But at the same time, the.
- 40:29Speaker 1: NBA changed the rules a little bit for Jordan to
- 40:32Speaker 1: make it a little bit more finess, so it wasn't
- 40:35Speaker 1: just as rugged as it was once was. And I
- 40:37Speaker 1: think with Lebron, there is just an air of like,
- 40:41Speaker 1: come on, guy, like you don't have to do this,
- 40:45Speaker 1: Like you're right, you're six eight six', nine your two
- 40:49Speaker 1: plus you look like a tight, End like you don't
- 40:52Speaker 1: have to play that, way you know WHAT i?
- 40:54Speaker 2: Mean, yes and that is exactly.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Okay you are you are sitting in the in the
- 41:01Speaker 1: seat of A hall Of, fame one of the greatest players,
- 41:05Speaker 1: ever and you have these, silly stupid things that you're.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Doing that is just like.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Ruining can we bring up his stats In, april just In?
- 41:15Speaker 4: APRIL i look that, up.
- 41:17Speaker 2: So and you cant got. Me it's not gonna save.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Him but but let's talk.
- 41:21Speaker 4: About, Okay so he's forty one years, old AM i? Right,
- 41:24Speaker 4: yes it's forty one years old in a in a
- 41:27Speaker 4: game that really consists.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Of thirty which he should, Be, yes he should.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Be really thirties most, people, right or most most. Players,
- 41:35Speaker 4: Okay so his stats For april this year points per,
- 41:38Speaker 4: game he's got twenty he's averaging twenty point. Nine, okay
- 41:42Speaker 4: he's forty. One his assists are seven point two per,
- 41:45Speaker 4: game his rebounds are six point. One his field goal
- 41:49Speaker 4: percentage right now is fifty one point five, percent and
- 41:52Speaker 4: he's played sixty. Games that's not horrible for a forty
- 41:55Speaker 4: year old.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Man that's BUT i think that that goes to the, argument,
- 41:59Speaker 1: right that's part of the argy because you can't argue, Numbers,
- 42:03Speaker 1: no you have A i, mean we can argue. Titles
- 42:06Speaker 1: but to, ME i don't care if the title that
- 42:09Speaker 1: he won with The Cleveland Cava Year cavaliers when he
- 42:11Speaker 1: was just playing with a bunch of dudes out, there
- 42:14Speaker 1: THAT i mean that that was but but but it's
- 42:19Speaker 1: just he doesn't have the same, aura, right he doesn't
- 42:22Speaker 1: have the same mistique as A. Jordan and, again those
- 42:25Speaker 1: are different. Eras we got social media now where we
- 42:28Speaker 1: know everything about, everybody AND i think that everybody's gonna
- 42:32Speaker 1: hold The Miami heat thing against.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Him.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Everybody everybody's gonna say that he was the start of
- 42:39Speaker 1: the super team Where god's just clicking, up just trying
- 42:41Speaker 1: to play together win. Chips so he's gonna always have
- 42:45Speaker 1: a couple things over his head that are gonna make,
- 42:48Speaker 1: people particularly like of our generation and, older.
- 42:50Speaker 2: To be, like, yeah HE i but he ain't him
- 42:54Speaker 2: AND i and and and and let's just be.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Honest those those are those are legitimate things that you
- 43:01Speaker 1: can have a problem.
- 43:02Speaker 2: WITH i think we're nitpicking a little, bit you know.
- 43:08Speaker 4: WHAT i think he likes what you're. Saying pretty. Much
- 43:11Speaker 4: the issue comparing him With Michael jordan and these other
- 43:14Speaker 4: players is. CHARISMA i, MEAN i THINK i think he's
- 43:17Speaker 4: a solid. PLAYER i think he gets out there and
- 43:19Speaker 4: he and he and he plays great, games but there's
- 43:21Speaker 4: something he just doesn't.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Have the.
- 43:22Speaker 4: Finesse the way that he plays the game is is
- 43:26Speaker 4: kind of. Vanilla is that is that a way TO
- 43:29Speaker 4: i don't.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Even want to give. IT i, SEE i hear what you're.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Saying BUT i think he does have like he he
- 43:35Speaker 1: has for sure the skill set and all of those
- 43:38Speaker 1: kinds of, things but his extreme to get a, foul
- 43:44Speaker 1: his extreme to be, injured his extreme to be all
- 43:49Speaker 1: those THINGS i would go, TO i would go to other.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Way SO i would say That Michael jordan And kobe
- 43:55Speaker 1: and EVEN i would put Like Alan iverson and maybe
- 43:58Speaker 1: you can even Put Steph curry in this.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Category they play, poetry, emotions it.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Is it was beautiful to Watch Michael jordan Play cream
- 44:07Speaker 1: the same, Way, magic the same, Way bird the same.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Way lebron has more of a direct type of game
- 44:13Speaker 1: where he can kind of he can bully, ball he
- 44:15Speaker 1: can kind of just do what he, wants so it's
- 44:17Speaker 1: not it's not. Picturesque AND i also think that those
- 44:21Speaker 1: guys THAT i just, NAMED i, mean, hell how, much
- 44:24Speaker 1: particularly when they were playing how much do we know About?
- 44:27Speaker 1: Bird how much did we really know About. Jordan we
- 44:29Speaker 1: didn't really know the personal lives and their views on.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Everything so they had a mystique in an oar around
- 44:36Speaker 1: him of like mystery where we know just everything about
- 44:39Speaker 1: lebro and to your, point we just we know kind
- 44:42Speaker 1: of the we're almost kind of inside his, head if
- 44:44Speaker 1: you will a little. Bit, okay and and and all
- 44:47Speaker 1: of that's, Valid lisa's. Valid i'm gonna still say that
- 44:53Speaker 1: you don't like it THAT i THINK i just, okay
- 44:59Speaker 1: so you take let's say you Take Michael jordan's. Stats,
- 45:03Speaker 1: Okay theron's stats can be right there above. Him they are,
- 45:10Speaker 1: okay other than, championship, okay but when you watch them,
- 45:15Speaker 1: play it's just no. COMPARISONS i mean, effort And i'm
- 45:21Speaker 1: not even talking about huge stuff and all that kind of.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Stuff i'm just talking about the. Effort he's not, gonna
- 45:27Speaker 1: he's not. Gonna he's not gonna fall, down and, SOMEBODY i.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Don't THINK i would Say i'm. Saying i'm saying as
- 45:39Speaker 2: a athlete looking at, HIM i don't think he needs
- 45:44Speaker 2: to fake.
- 45:46Speaker 1: And fall down and hold his, arm hold his, shoulder
- 45:50Speaker 1: hold his knee like it's, dead like they're gonna have
- 45:53Speaker 1: to come and cut it, off you, Know And.
- 45:55Speaker 4: I'm gonna when The lakers change channels for you and to.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Seconds, later he's he's running, again or he's shooting, again
- 46:03Speaker 1: he's rebounding.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Again.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Dude part of the, game, now isn't.
- 46:07Speaker 2: It it's not if you're not if it is for.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Him see my problem with that, Is, okay to your, Point,
- 46:15Speaker 1: lisa it is for, him and he's, there and he's
- 46:18Speaker 1: supposed to be the greatest player in the.
- 46:20Speaker 2: League how do you set that.
- 46:22Speaker 6: Example that's the example that you're, showing and AND i
- 46:25Speaker 6: can MAKE i, COULD i can be one hundred percent
- 46:27Speaker 6: sure and not. Know but there are players in the
- 46:31Speaker 6: locker room talking about all of that stuff that he's.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Doing i'll Be devil's advocate. Here so he would stop
- 46:38Speaker 4: the flopping that you speak of if you.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Had, start if he had to. Stop, okay, okay let's.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Stop let's say.
- 46:44Speaker 4: If he doesn't do it at, all and then all these.
- 46:47Speaker 2: You've never, done say he's never done.
- 46:49Speaker 4: It let's just say. That let's say he's never. Done
- 46:51Speaker 4: how would you feel about his play minus the?
- 46:54Speaker 1: FLOPPING i would say that he's a great, player and
- 46:57Speaker 1: the same AS i would, say, now he's a great,
- 46:59Speaker 1: player but he's still. Not he doesn't because even beyond
- 47:04Speaker 1: the injuries and that he's, FAKING i don't. KNOW i
- 47:09Speaker 1: don't know if he can Be Michael. JORDAN i don't
- 47:13Speaker 1: know if he can Be Kobe. BRYANT i don't know
- 47:16Speaker 1: if he can Be Magic johnson BECAUSE i just don't
- 47:18Speaker 1: see the work ethic on the. Floor, Now i'm gonna
- 47:21Speaker 1: make the case he's a work ethic kind of. Guy
- 47:23Speaker 1: he can't get. That he can't be, that but you
- 47:26Speaker 1: got but you've got to show that in the. Game
- 47:30Speaker 1: but and he just doesn't look that.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Way, yeah that.
- 47:33Speaker 1: WAY i just think it's a, stylistically it's just not your.
- 47:37Speaker 1: TASTE i would say.
- 47:38Speaker 2: THAT i.
- 47:39Speaker 1: WOULD i would, say like stylistically, Correct, stylistically the way
- 47:43Speaker 1: he plays is just not.
- 47:46Speaker 2: To watch.
- 47:46Speaker 4: BALL i, mean isn't it true historically like in the,
- 47:49Speaker 4: past like in some of the conference series that he's
- 47:53Speaker 4: kind of been criticized for kind of like giving up
- 47:57Speaker 4: when their team is like taking the last.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Shot, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah but but but he's got
- 48:03Speaker 1: a lot of those kind of things he. Does But
- 48:05Speaker 1: i'll say He lebron makes the right play all the,
- 48:09Speaker 1: Time so he'll, like if the balls in, hand he's
- 48:13Speaker 1: he's he's very HIGH iq basketball, Player so if the
- 48:16Speaker 1: balls in, hand he's gonna make the right correct. Pass
- 48:20Speaker 1: Where Michael jordan And Kobe, bryant at, times they would
- 48:24Speaker 1: force the, issue so they're gonna, like, man, LOOK i
- 48:27Speaker 1: mean we've seen a time they're gonna take. It they
- 48:30Speaker 1: canna take the, Shot, hey put it on my, back
- 48:32Speaker 1: gonna do. It, Yeah and and sometimes he has been
- 48:35Speaker 1: criticized for not doing that, part kind of just almost
- 48:38Speaker 1: watching at times while making the quote unquote right. Play
- 48:42Speaker 1: can he do you think he can take over a
- 48:44Speaker 1: game for? SURE i, MEAN i mean he's forty one,
- 48:47Speaker 1: now so maybe not so much. NOW i think he
- 48:49Speaker 1: can still do it, now.
- 48:51Speaker 2: But in his, prime in his? Prime do you can
- 48:54Speaker 2: you reflect back and SAY i can remember when he took.
- 48:58Speaker 1: OVER i can't have name of sific, GAME i understand,
- 49:01Speaker 1: that BUT i can say that that that year that
- 49:03Speaker 1: he wanted With, Cleveland yeah that Was.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Lebron, NO i don't give You Michael jordan wouldn't have
- 49:08Speaker 2: won with those. Dudes OH i don't.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Know i'm telling you he didn't have. One who go
- 49:13Speaker 1: back and look at that roster he didn't. Have there's
- 49:16Speaker 1: not one Other hall Of fame on that roster. There
- 49:18Speaker 1: there may not have been Another All star on that.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Roster he won with some guys that were some GOOD nba.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Dudes i'm gonna Make i'm gonna make the case That
- 49:27Speaker 1: i'm gonna make the case That.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Jordans made a lot of players be who they.
- 49:37Speaker 4: Were, oh, yes that That Chicago Bulls we talked about.
- 49:41Speaker 2: That that was that.
- 49:42Speaker 4: House they were household, names every player on that. Team,
- 49:45Speaker 4: yeah you still recognize.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Them, YES i mean like they. Were they're so, notable
- 49:51Speaker 1: you know. That it's just it was just easy and
- 49:54Speaker 1: and and they were great. Players they became great, players
- 49:57Speaker 1: WHICH i don't know if they would have If jordan's
- 50:01Speaker 1: not on that.
- 50:02Speaker 2: TEAM i don't.
- 50:03Speaker 1: THINK i don't think that anybody that's On lebron's team
- 50:08Speaker 1: is likely going to get a lot of attention credit
- 50:14Speaker 1: for a win because it's always going to be something about.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Him the conversation is always going to be about. Him
- 50:20Speaker 2: and that's not his.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Fault but for me as a as a as WHEN
- 50:26Speaker 1: i look WHEN i think about basketball AND i think
- 50:29Speaker 1: about WHO i, like what TEAM i would want to
- 50:32Speaker 1: go to or what TEAM i would want to celebrate or.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Whatever he can't be on that. Team, man look at
- 50:39Speaker 2: The cleveland kaz roster that. Year they want.
- 50:41Speaker 1: It in twenty fifteen twenty, sixteen you Had Kyrie, irvin
- 50:45Speaker 1: who is A he's An All, star so he's a,
- 50:48Speaker 1: friend he's a, Player Kevin, love he's a. Friends Maybe
- 50:52Speaker 1: hall Of fame, Maybe but let's look at everybody. Else
- 50:56Speaker 1: Tristan thomas J. R, Smith Matthew Della, Devova Richard, jefferson good,
- 51:01Speaker 1: Player Emon, Suffer Channing, Fry tim and THREE.
- 51:06Speaker 2: M i don't even say his last.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Name James, Jones Moe, Williams Deontay, Jones jordan m, Mcgrae
- 51:14Speaker 1: sasha Coop. Man he took those those, Dude but a
- 51:21Speaker 1: couple of those names that just or not just average,
- 51:25Speaker 1: place not average. Player i'll give you. That but like The,
- 51:29Speaker 1: bulls you know WHAT i. MEAN i mean you gotta
- 51:31Speaker 1: think Of like with The Chicago, bulls you Had Ron,
- 51:33Speaker 1: harper who was averaging twenty plus with The, calves went
- 51:36Speaker 1: to The, bulls turned into a traditional point. Guard that
- 51:40Speaker 1: guy could light it. Up Dennis rodman was the, great
- 51:42Speaker 1: one of the, greatest defensives of all. Time Scotty pippen
- 51:45Speaker 1: is probably one of the top five two way players.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Ever then and, okay so to To jordan's, CREDIT i
- 51:53Speaker 1: don't Think rodman is In chicago or had been In
- 51:57Speaker 1: chicago for the amount of time that he was In
- 51:59Speaker 1: if it's.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Not For, jordan maybe.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Not BUT i mean he won championships With, DETROIT i know,
- 52:05Speaker 1: So but, Again detroit was again another team that was
- 52:08Speaker 1: pretty much.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Loaded, yeah you know, SO i Just i'm, Sorry.
- 52:14Speaker 1: LIKE i just can't know you.
- 52:17Speaker 4: REALLY i, Mean i'm pretty OBVIOUS.
- 52:19Speaker 2: I, THINK i, mean, yeah but but you're, RIGHT i just.
- 52:28Speaker 1: DON'T i just don't feel Like lebron has the passion
- 52:35Speaker 1: in the game to be like A, Jordan Magic Johnson, Larry,
- 52:45Speaker 1: LIKE i just think THAT i JUST i JUST i
- 52:48Speaker 1: just don't think he has THE i just don't see
- 52:52Speaker 1: that that pressing work out there. DEFENSE i, Mean i've
- 52:56Speaker 1: seen them like walking down jogging down the. Course he's
- 53:00Speaker 1: forty one and averaging twenty points a. Game it's, crazy
- 53:05Speaker 1: but that's.
- 53:05Speaker 4: Fine but, then like, one you can't be. Critical he's
- 53:11Speaker 4: playing at the highest.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Level, okay HERE'S i could HAVE i could have PLAYED
- 53:16Speaker 1: i could have played. ONE i could have played one
- 53:18Speaker 1: more year with The, saints BUT i couldn't.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Run but he. Can so it is like it's work.
- 53:24Speaker 2: Happened He, no he cannot Do he's not playing at a.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Level he's not. Playing he's. Scoring he averages. Twenty he is.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Scoring he is scoring because he's, big he's HE'S i
- 53:40Speaker 2: can't ride with you in, that.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Man if you if you have twenty points in THE,
- 53:46Speaker 1: nba what is? It five six, assists five or six,
- 53:49Speaker 1: rebounds and you know played sixty games and forty. One come, on,
- 53:54Speaker 1: Look i'm all FOR i understand all, that, brother but
- 53:58Speaker 1: if you're out there doing, that unfortunately you don't have you,
- 54:04Speaker 1: know you, know you just it does not look to,
- 54:06Speaker 1: me to me that there is a passion there.
- 54:11Speaker 7: To.
- 54:12Speaker 1: WIN i think you see him laying around on the.
- 54:14Speaker 1: Ground you see him jogging down the. Course personal when
- 54:19Speaker 1: it is?
- 54:20Speaker 2: Personal when is your, Birthday, Carl february, Sixth.
- 54:22Speaker 4: Okay Next. February i'm going to get you A Lebron
- 54:24Speaker 4: James jersey just for you.
