  [SPEAKER_02]: five percent property tax increase that would slam more than three million residential units and over a hundred thousand commercial buildings forcing all of them to raise rents on everyone and to make matters even worse.

  [SPEAKER_02]: And that guy's just one of dozens of Democrats in New York City threatening Mam Donnie that he had better go back to the drawing board because this massive property tax increase is a no-go.

  [SPEAKER_02]: Now, here's what Mamdon is really trying to do here is actually trying to go to New York Governor Kathy Huckle in a raising taxes on New York City's wealthy.

  [SPEAKER_02]: She's already basically said no to virtually everything Mamdon he wants.

  [SPEAKER_02]: She's not going to be green lighting his tax increases.

  [SPEAKER_02]: Remember, the New York State Constitution requires that all income tax increases have to go through all-biting.

  [SPEAKER_02]: So, Mamdoni simply doesn't have the power to raise taxes, at least income taxes.

  [SPEAKER_02]: The New York City Council doesn't have the power to raise income taxes.

  [SPEAKER_02]: The only legislative body that can raise income taxes is the state government and all of any sign by the governor.

  [SPEAKER_02]: is he's, um, he's basically trying to force a whole go into compliance with all the promises he made as it were on her behalf.

  [SPEAKER_02]: So when Mandani was on the campaign trail, he was making all these insane ass-in-ine promises that he couldn't pay for.

  [SPEAKER_02]: So he's putting all of the pressure, all the oneness on a whole goal, the governor.

  [SPEAKER_02]: He wasn't the one who's going to be able to raise the income taxes that all his social programs require.

  [SPEAKER_02]: It was the governor's signature that was going to have to do that.

  [SPEAKER_02]: And so he conveniently left that part out of the campaign.

  [SPEAKER_02]: So now he's trying to force whole go into signing off on raising income taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers, something she knows will only continue the mass exodus of the wealthiest New Yorkers out of her state, which will tank their state budget and economy.

  [SPEAKER_02]: Nope, as a matter of fact, as a matter of fact, it's even worse the first day, the first week of January, just three days after Mamdoni was sworn into office, subway and bus fairs throughout the city actually increased to three dollars.

  [SPEAKER_02]: The very first order of business for the new Mamdoni administration was to oversee transportation costs going up, not down.

  [SPEAKER_02]: And then he wanted the city to buy up thousands of apartments in order to turn them into subsidized housing and the judge shot that down.

  [SPEAKER_02]: And so, low and behold, it appears that more and more New York City Democrats are discovering precisely that, just like they are in Chicago, just like they are in San Francisco.
