- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning back out at the chicken coop.
- 0:33Very excited to be back out here this morning.
- 0:36Feels so much better to be in this space.
- 0:39It's amazing how attached I get to the process and the rituals
- 0:43of every morning and when I get to get back to them, how great
- 0:46they make me feel. So today, what are we talking
- 0:49about? Well, want to share with you a
- 0:51little a card, a quote on a card that I put inside of the books
- 0:56that I handed out at the event that I just taught at.
- 0:59And that quote was be always be stronger than your excuses.
- 1:03And somebody came up to me when I handed the books out
- 1:07afterwards, they came up and they asked me to sign the book
- 1:09and they said this quote makes me tear up.
- 1:12And I said, why does it make you tear up?
- 1:15And she said, because I feel like when I'm stronger than my
- 1:20excuses, I feel like I always have to push, push, push, push,
- 1:24push. And that's just makes me feel
- 1:28sad that I have to push. And I said I, I, you know, I
- 1:31agreed. I said, yeah, that must feel
- 1:33terrible because that must feel terrible when you feel like you
- 1:35have to push, push, push, push, push.
- 1:38So how I ended up taking that on with her and believe me, this
- 1:43was like a 15 minute conversation so I could coach
- 1:46her on demand with this, but I wanted to share it with
- 1:49everybody because I think it's really important.
- 1:51So she said, you know, for her, she felt like her excuses were
- 1:56things that were very, very legitimate.
- 1:59And you know what I always say, and if you're a fan and you've
- 2:02read the bus book, you know that I'm constantly tell you our
- 2:06emotions are here to teach us things.
- 2:08Our emotions are here to give us clues.
- 2:11They're a guidance system, and it's our job to listen to said
- 2:15guidance system and make sure that we are not ignoring the
- 2:20clues. Because if we are ignoring the
- 2:22clues, you know what ends up happening?
- 2:23We end up having to do a lot of work to navigate that.
- 2:28And you just got to look at the clues.
- 2:31You know, if you keep making lefts and the GPS keeps telling
- 2:33you, you must go right, what does the GPS system do in the
- 2:37car? It's annoying, right?
- 2:38It keeps going. Turn around, turn around, turn
- 2:41around, and it keeps poking at you until the car is going in
- 2:45the right direction. Well, that's exactly what
- 2:47happens with our emotions. So her overwhelming feeling of
- 2:51that, it's so hard, it's so hard, it's so hard, was trying
- 2:55to tell her that ultimately what was going on for her was a clue.
- 3:01It was a definite clue. It was trying to tell her we
- 3:04can't do things the way we've always done them because this
- 3:06isn't working for us. We're not happy.
- 3:09And she just didn't want to hear the message.
- 3:11So she kept making the excuses. And then when she tried to get
- 3:15past them, she would cry. She wasn't filled with joy, with
- 3:19saying, OK, yes, let's do it. She wasn't excited when she
- 3:22recognized it. She was filled with angst and
- 3:25pain. And why is that?
- 3:26Well, she was filled with angst and pain because she ultimately
- 3:30understood that she was not where she was supposed to be.
- 3:33And in not being where she was supposed to be, she was getting
- 3:36that message loud and clear. And the pain was too much and
- 3:40she was ignoring it. So the message was there.
- 3:44The message was holy, right in front of her.
- 3:46But then she felt bad because she was being a quitter as
- 3:50opposed to a listener. When you quit and you walk away
- 3:55from something, if it's not something you really wanted to
- 3:58begin with, is it really quitting?
- 4:01I mean, think about that, my friends.
- 4:02It's like, is it really quitting?
- 4:04No, it's not. If it's not something that you
- 4:06really wanted, it's misaligned with you.
- 4:08It doesn't have your heart in the right space.
- 4:11It's not caring for you and helping you in the right way.
- 4:14Then what is the point? What are you doing there?
- 4:17What is happening? So we're we're putting ourselves
- 4:20into a position that doesn't serve us any longer.
- 4:23And that's where this comes in to be such an important lesson.
- 4:27Because if you're not aligned with it and you let go of it,
- 4:30you're not a quitter. And at least in my version of
- 4:33the world, you're not a quitter. You're actually attuned to
- 4:36yourself. You're actually aligned with
- 4:38yourself. And you know, and some people
- 4:40would say, well, maybe that's just because this person's
- 4:42selfish, OK, but they're still aligned with themselves.
- 4:45They're not telling false truths.
- 4:47They're just, you know, living. They're not living a false life.
- 4:50They're just aligning with themselves may may be good.
- 4:53Well, it's better than being misaligned and mistreating
- 4:57yourself and people along the way.
- 4:59So the most important part of this is your excuses are what
- 5:06come in. The way I like to think of this
- 5:08phrase is I know I really want something.
- 5:10I know like, OK, let's go back to writing that very book that I
- 5:14put the the the card, the postcard in that book was a
- 5:21challenge to get it done. And the way I ended up including
- 5:25a couple of sections of live coaching sessions with
- 5:29fictitious clients that I had to create and do both sides of it
- 5:32was a very difficult thing for me to write.
- 5:35And the after I did the first one, I was mentally drained
- 5:37because I was playing both sides of the identity.
- 5:41And writing is hard. If you've never written a book,
- 5:44writing is hard. And it was, I was tired after
- 5:47that. And then I had to do four more
- 5:50and I was like, I committed to what I was going to do.
- 5:52I committed to that's how I wanted the book to be. 5.
- 5:56I wanted 5 leaders to be outlined in the book and then I
- 5:59started making excuses as to why I was not doing the other four.
- 6:03I was like Oh well I got this in the way or this had to be done
- 6:06or this had to be taken care of and they were all excuses
- 6:09because I knew I really wanted it.
- 6:12I wanted to be that person that finished the book.
- 6:14I knew that was my book to write.
- 6:16I knew it was in my head and they were picking at me going
- 6:18come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
- 6:20And I was making excuses for all the other things I had to do.
- 6:24So did I end up getting past my excuses?
- 6:26Yes, pretty quickly, yes. Obviously that's who I am and
- 6:29what I do. But The thing is, I was still
- 6:31aligned with the goal. So that's where the word excuses
- 6:34come in. Because it's hard doesn't mean
- 6:36it's not aligned with you. If it's hard, it's probably good
- 6:40for you to do so, as long as you are aligned with it.
- 6:44So remember that as you're going through this and hopefully that
- 6:48little quote will help you and stir the pot and get some
- 6:50thoughts going. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:52you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:54Bye.
