- 0:01Speaker 1: Charging about what do we have in this Yankees Red
- 0:04Speaker 1: Sox series? Uh, where do we start?
- 0:08Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean do we start? Where do we start?
- 0:10Speaker 2: With the game yesterday? First of all, Freed and Crochet
- 0:13Speaker 2: pitched amazing. Yeah, both of them are really good. Crochet
- 0:17Speaker 2: gave up the early run to Volpi, you know Ken's
- 0:20Speaker 2: X factor, and he hit the home run and you're thinking, okay,
- 0:24Speaker 2: here we go, and that was it. That was it
- 0:26Speaker 2: for the Yankee offense. Judge had a couple of hits,
- 0:28Speaker 2: singles final, they had a couple of chances. They had
- 0:30Speaker 2: first and second in the first inning. Nobody out didn't score.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Did in the game?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Huh?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Do you leave Freed in the game? I mean what
- 0:40Speaker 1: to finish, not to finish the game, but just to
- 0:43Speaker 1: give you more. I mean, Crochet didn't finish the game.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But if he handed the ball to chev he handed
- 0:48Speaker 1: the ball to the closer and.
- 0:49Speaker 2: One of the strengths of the team, though, by the
- 0:52Speaker 2: way of the Yankees, was supposed to be their bullpen.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So you're thinking, all right, well, he's handing it to Weaver.
- 0:57Speaker 2: He's been one of their I mean he struggled a
- 0:59Speaker 2: little bit in the second but he's been one of
- 1:00Speaker 2: their best for a couple of years now, so you're thinking, okay,
- 1:03Speaker 2: he can get through it. And then there's also something
- 1:05Speaker 2: that has came up a lot too, is Aaron Judge Zelbo.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Remember when so Guard hit the double, if he has
- 1:13Speaker 2: a normal arm, I don't think he challenges him there.
- 1:16Speaker 2: But Judge got it, backhanded it and he gave it
- 1:18Speaker 2: all you have. But so Guard outran it. Not ended
- 1:20Speaker 2: up being huge because then Yoshida got the hit that
- 1:22Speaker 2: drove in two, right, that would have been first and third.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Maybe a little different situation, but that was a big
- 1:28Speaker 2: thing too. There's so much to dissect, and you got
- 1:30Speaker 2: Jazz not talking to the reporters while talking to him,
- 1:32Speaker 2: but like not.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talking to him back towards him.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I mean, Chapman going from ninety five to one hundred
- 1:37Speaker 2: and one after the bases got loaded. I mean it was.
- 1:40Speaker 2: It was an intriguing game.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Bases loaded, Nobody outcrats, nobody scores.
- 1:45Speaker 3: And if you need to score more, you left town
- 1:48Speaker 3: many home runs on the bench. Essentially, you had Jazz
- 1:52Speaker 3: on the bench early. You had Ben Rice on the
- 1:55Speaker 3: bench early, like I get it, like you had if
- 1:59Speaker 3: you had to get to those lefties and get to
- 2:01Speaker 3: the bullpen righties. Then you can't have a six pitch
- 2:05Speaker 3: seventh inning. Your guys can't go out there and make
- 2:09Speaker 3: three outs on six pitches just so you don't strike out.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You have to build his pitch count up up up.
- 2:15Speaker 3: And it fell right into it, fell right into AC's hands.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Alice Korra was like, this is the perfect spot in
- 2:21Speaker 3: the lineup. They already set it up, so there's a
- 2:23Speaker 3: bunch of lefties, so we'll just mow through this. Crochet
- 2:27Speaker 3: is gonna throw a billion and we'll never even go
- 2:29Speaker 3: to our righties.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What's the computer system that the Yankees bow.
- 2:35Speaker 3: To Basse.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Bass?
- 2:39Speaker 3: It's called bass yep.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So Bass said no jazz today, even though you've played
- 2:44Speaker 1: him in these spots most of the time, and then
- 2:46Speaker 1: bring him in later in the game for defense, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: then you still face the left. Do you think, guys,
- 2:54Speaker 1: do you think Bass isn't a Yankees fan.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Base is a Red Sox fan.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I mean they do whatever Bass says. Do you think
- 3:03Speaker 1: that Bass could be rooting against just like some people
- 3:06Speaker 1: think AI is eventually going to turn on humans, maybe
- 3:08Speaker 1: Bass has already turned on the end and the terminator.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Where's Sarah Connor. We need to find Sarah Connor right now.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I joke, but I'm also serious, Like they do bow
- 3:17Speaker 1: down to that thing. It's true they do.
- 3:19Speaker 3: All teams do.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Though what Tory Lavella said, I don't make the lineup.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's a it's a decision, that's a committee based decision.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Bass would have said, removed Garrett Crochet earlier yesterday. They
- 3:29Speaker 1: would have said, he doesn't the way he was like that. No, no,
- 3:32Speaker 1: human says stay. Basse says, no, this is past the
- 3:36Speaker 1: pitch limit, isn't it.
- 3:38Speaker 2: He was.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Base might even Base might even see the fact that
- 3:42Speaker 3: Garrett Crochet is a cyborg too, and Base might be like,
- 3:45Speaker 3: I appreciate machines playing the games. This is where we
- 3:48Speaker 3: want to get to anyway.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But Max Frieda had given up a run out, hustled
- 3:55Speaker 1: Duranda first, let me eat Vello went down. What a
- 4:00Speaker 1: tick and a half over the course of a game. Okay,
- 4:03Speaker 1: still looked damn effect.
- 4:04Speaker 2: That sleeper going and she had a good change up
- 4:06Speaker 2: yesterday and they weren't touching him.
- 4:10Speaker 1: This could be the decision that decides their entire season.
- 4:14Speaker 1: A team that's all year.
- 4:16Speaker 2: No, you can't score one run. Sorry. It's also the
- 4:20Speaker 2: first time in history, I thought I saw I don't
- 4:22Speaker 2: know if that's right history where the team had in
- 4:24Speaker 2: the bottom of the night bases loaded no outs and
- 4:27Speaker 2: didn't score run and didn't win the game.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But you're facing Crochet, who's a top three starter in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the sport, and you're facing the best closer in baseball
- 4:35Speaker 1: this year, and Chapman and the Red Sox said, Nope,
- 4:37Speaker 1: not going to get to anything else. Crochet told that
- 4:39Speaker 1: to Korra. He's like, it's me and Chappie. Nobody else
- 4:42Speaker 1: gets to pitch tonight.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 4:44Speaker 1: That is awesome.
- 4:44Speaker 2: That's freaking awesome. I love that.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Hey, Krats, go ahead. And then I got a question
- 4:51Speaker 1: for you.
- 4:51Speaker 3: No, no, I was just gonna say, we had a
- 4:54Speaker 3: night last night, not just in that game of just
- 4:57Speaker 3: dominating left handed pitchers, go across all the games. Four games.
- 5:02Speaker 3: You saw obviously Boyd pitched well, but then you saw
- 5:07Speaker 3: Trek Scoogel, you saw Max Freed, you saw Garrett Crochet,
- 5:11Speaker 3: you saw Blake Snell. That was some absolute monsters throwing
- 5:16Speaker 3: cheese from the left side. Maybe the game's changing. It's
- 5:19Speaker 3: all for lefties now.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Why here's my question, and I saw this and people
- 5:24Speaker 2: brought this up too. If you're the Yankees, I guess
- 5:27Speaker 2: Bass says, you don't play Jazz and ben Rice. They've
- 5:31Speaker 2: been two of your best hitters and they might run
- 5:33Speaker 2: into one. I've seen Ben Rice homeruffle Lefty before. I've
- 5:36Speaker 2: seen jas Chisholm homeruffle. I know it's Crochet, but as
- 5:40Speaker 2: a med Rosario that big of an upgrade. Yes, he's
- 5:46Speaker 2: that big of an upgrade. What do you do last night.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Going into the game, he was six for eight I
- 5:52Speaker 3: think against Garrett Crochet. Okay, two dangers, two doubles. I
- 5:58Speaker 3: think that's an upgrade. I just think sucks that they
- 6:01Speaker 3: ran in they get they ran into Crochet early. If
- 6:03Speaker 3: that was gonna happen like Jazz played, I think twenty
- 6:08Speaker 3: seven of the last twenty eight games, or twenty eight
- 6:10Speaker 3: of the last thirty games. I get it. I but
- 6:15Speaker 3: you have to have Amed Rosario in there.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Okay, but we could make this case if the Yankees
- 6:21Speaker 1: are playing the Tigers, would you do that against Scooble?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Then you're if you're in the best out of seven,
- 6:26Speaker 1: you're just gonna sit your best some of your best
- 6:29Speaker 1: hitters in half the series because.
- 6:30Speaker 2: He played he's left handed.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It's not, but it's to me. I think the amed
- 6:36Speaker 3: Rosario one is they took the numbers and then they
- 6:39Speaker 3: were like, that's too much to ignore. How can we
- 6:42Speaker 3: ignore last time they faced him he had a dinger
- 6:45Speaker 3: and Fenway and I think he had a double off
- 6:46Speaker 3: the wall too. You gotta go with your best matchup there.
- 6:49Speaker 3: When you're facing an elite pitcher, you're not just you're not.
- 6:53Speaker 3: You're talking about two dudes Tarrek Scubel and Garrett Crochet
- 6:57Speaker 3: that are not your typical lefties.
- 7:01Speaker 1: What do you tell Jazz Chisholm before the game and
- 7:05Speaker 1: then after the game, Kratz if you're Aaron Boone before
- 7:08Speaker 1: the game, as in, hey, I know we've been playing
- 7:10Speaker 1: you in these spots basically the entire year, and you
- 7:12Speaker 1: had a thirty thirty season for us, but we're sitting you.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And then after the game when he turns his back
- 7:19Speaker 1: to reporters as a grown adult, it's not cool, right either,
- 7:26Speaker 1: Do the interviewer don't like, I think you're better off.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm going to speak for the media side here, Like, dude,
- 7:30Speaker 1: if you're not even looking at me and like you
- 7:32Speaker 1: don't want to do it, like I'd rather not right,
- 7:35Speaker 1: like I'll just come back or just tell me you
- 7:37Speaker 1: don't want to talk to me today. To me, that
- 7:39Speaker 1: is just disrespectful to a human being. Like I think
- 7:41Speaker 1: we're all humans. We should treat each other that way.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It's two minutes. I've done these things in the locker
- 7:46Speaker 1: rooms a billion times. Most of the time, it is
- 7:49Speaker 1: two minutes. We are in the clubhouse awkwardly so that
- 7:52Speaker 1: we spend as little time as possible disrupting the lifestyle
- 7:56Speaker 1: of a player. Right, if it was up to me,
- 7:58Speaker 1: bring him to another room, let's get good time to
- 7:59Speaker 1: say down. We're not doing that because we know you're busy.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Two minutes at your locker asking five questions with twenty
- 8:06Speaker 1: second answers. That's the whole thing. Can you turn to
- 8:09Speaker 1: me and look at me like a man?
- 8:11Speaker 3: He could have handled that better. Nobody's gonna deny that.
- 8:14Speaker 3: But I think Jazz, as much as some people are
- 8:17Speaker 3: going to complain about maybe his immaturity, his flash, his
- 8:22Speaker 3: ups and downs, all that stuff, you also got to
- 8:26Speaker 3: look at how they've kind of used him this year. Hey, Jazz,
- 8:30Speaker 3: we traded for you last year. You know what we
- 8:32Speaker 3: need you to do play third. What did Jazz say?
- 8:34Speaker 3: Anything for the team? Hey, Jazz, we made it to
- 8:37Speaker 3: the playoffs again. I know you've been one of our
- 8:40Speaker 3: best bats. You're sitting today, Hey, anything's best for the
- 8:44Speaker 3: team even I mean, it's hard to tell what he said,
- 8:47Speaker 3: but it sounded like you said, hey, you know what,
- 8:49Speaker 3: it's whatever's best for the team doesn't mean he needs
- 8:52Speaker 3: to agree with it. And you asked, what do you
- 8:55Speaker 3: say if you're Aaron Boone before and after the game.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I don't need to say anything to after the game.
- 9:01Speaker 3: That's his time. All I talked to him about before
- 9:04Speaker 3: the game is the fact that you're sitting against Crochet.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I get it. You've played the last twenty seven to
- 9:10Speaker 3: twenty eight games. You're sitting against Crochet. Am ed Rosario.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Is this for this? I know this sucks. We need
- 9:18Speaker 3: you in game two. We're gonna need you late too,
- 9:21Speaker 3: so I need to make sure you're locked in. I'm
- 9:24Speaker 3: not saying you need to like it. I need to
- 9:26Speaker 3: know that you are here for the boys and give
- 9:28Speaker 3: us a good ad. Bat. That's all you got to say,
- 9:30Speaker 3: And you don't have to You don't have to handle
- 9:31Speaker 3: anything as a manager. If you've got to be like hey,
- 9:34Speaker 3: stand up straighter and look people in the eye when
- 9:37Speaker 3: you're they're interviewing you, you're cooked. You got way more
- 9:40Speaker 3: things to worry about, especially in New York. Yeah, listen,
- 9:46Speaker 3: I'm not gonna sit here and plast jazz. It wasn't
- 9:48Speaker 3: a good look. That's all I'm gonna say. It wasn't
- 9:49Speaker 3: a good look. It was disrespectful to the guys that
- 9:52Speaker 3: were doing their job. They didn't make the lineup. If
- 9:54Speaker 3: you want to be mad at Aaron Boone, fine be married,
- 9:56Speaker 3: but don't be mad when.
- 9:57Speaker 2: The people just come up and say, hey, Erin Boo
- 9:59Speaker 2: told me I wasn't playing, Okay, then they got to
- 10:02Speaker 2: go ask Aaron Boone why justism didn't play?
- 10:04Speaker 3: That's it.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Turn around and turn around and say, hey, look, I
- 10:07Speaker 2: don't know, guys. I went in when they told me
- 10:09Speaker 2: to do. They asked me to do this. This is
- 10:10Speaker 2: what I did. I was happy when I came in.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I did the best I could in my bat didn't
- 10:14Speaker 2: work out right. I don't know why I didn't play.
- 10:17Speaker 2: If Aaron Boone told him why he didn't play, you
- 10:18Speaker 2: can say that reason or don't say that reason. That's
- 10:20Speaker 2: up to you. But as soon as you just turn
- 10:22Speaker 2: around and say, hey, I don't know, I did, I
- 10:24Speaker 2: was here sold, I'm not playing, and then they got
- 10:26Speaker 2: to go ask Aaron Boone the question.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I'd get you off the hook.
- 10:28Speaker 1: That's it. But by doing this it goes back and
- 10:31Speaker 1: then it makes people.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I don't I'm not going to say, lose respect for you,
- 10:35Speaker 2: but fans are like, look at this guy, Look at
- 10:37Speaker 2: this guy. Why is he doing this?
- 10:38Speaker 4: Right?
- 10:40Speaker 2: Just answer the question, why didn't you play? I don't know,
- 10:42Speaker 2: he didn't tell me.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It goes viral if you handle it this way. And
- 10:47Speaker 1: I don't blame the vile community on this one.
- 10:49Speaker 2: No you can't, because I've never seen boy do an
- 10:51Speaker 2: interview with their back turned.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It's a character judgment situation.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Which is not unfair all the time.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Right, but it is what it is. If you're frustrated, though,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I mean, I know it sounds silly. I'd rather you
- 11:02Speaker 1: just be like, hey, guys, having some issues, I'll talk
- 11:04Speaker 1: to you tomorrow. Yeah, okay, anything, but back to human
- 11:09Speaker 1: It's it's just not it.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Hey, jan what about sitting down to give an interview?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Did that make you cringe or were you cool with that.
- 11:16Speaker 3: When everyone comes around and they're all standing and you
- 11:19Speaker 3: sit and you're just like like you're holding court. That
- 11:24Speaker 3: didn't bother me because I did it a lot. I mean,
- 11:25Speaker 3: I just played nine innings and I was tired, and
- 11:27Speaker 3: I was and if they caught me and I was
- 11:29Speaker 3: already sitting down.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I'd usually say all right, yeah, let's go. Yeah, I
- 11:32Speaker 2: don't care. Now. It didn't bother me when a reporter
- 11:34Speaker 2: came in and sat down. Yes, Oh.
- 11:38Speaker 1: It happens though, I know, But that times I tell
- 11:41Speaker 1: a reporter they're sitting in your seat, they're sitting in.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Chairs interviewing somebody, or they're they're they're reading the newspaper
- 11:48Speaker 2: that's there for the players. Yeah, I would say something
- 11:53Speaker 2: we can do an hour on that, or or my
- 11:56Speaker 2: favorite was we'd have TVs and they're I mean, I've
- 11:59Speaker 2: done it. As as when I go in there, they're
- 12:01Speaker 2: like this, though, I'm like, hey, ye, if you don't
- 12:03Speaker 2: have anybody, get out.
- 12:05Speaker 1: The only thing I'll say, wait, I'm gonna come out.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Sometimes we're waiting. I would be in there and I'm
- 12:10Speaker 1: watching a playoff game because I'm waiting for so and so.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Who's calf?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and I try to allowed to look at the
- 12:18Speaker 1: team done it. Yeah, I know there's been times I'm
- 12:21Speaker 1: in there, I'm waiting and there we're waiting for a
- 12:23Speaker 1: particular player who's either just taking some time, maybe getting treatment, whatever,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and we'll ask pr that be like they'll come out
- 12:29Speaker 1: or maybe they won't, but you got twenty minutes left,
- 12:31Speaker 1: and then I'm just literally standing there and I'm I
- 12:33Speaker 1: need to keep up with the playoff game. I get
- 12:34Speaker 1: what you're saying. It's not it's not a lounge, it's
- 12:36Speaker 1: not a hangout spot. I don't want to be in there.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I'm like, either it's still awkward.
- 12:41Speaker 1: It's awkward. Yeah, you want to go right up to
- 12:43Speaker 1: the dude, say what up? And then get out, Like.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I walk up to the people I know, and even
- 12:47Speaker 2: the ones I don't know how to introduce myself, and
- 12:49Speaker 2: or like guys we've had on the show, Hey, thank
- 12:50Speaker 2: you for coming on the show, or guys we want
- 12:53Speaker 2: to get on the show, Hey can we get you on?
- 12:56Speaker 2: And then the guys even then I'm like, hey, how
- 12:58Speaker 2: are you nice to meet you? If I haven't met
- 12:59Speaker 2: I'm more guys I know you know I've met, Hey,
- 13:01Speaker 2: what's up? How you doing, have a great game, whatever,
- 13:04Speaker 2: and just get the heck out, because it's always like
- 13:06Speaker 2: that fifteen to twenty minutes where I'm standing in there.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And I'm like, it's weird. It's weird. It's like being
- 13:13Speaker 1: in someone's bedroom or something like you ask what you
- 13:15Speaker 1: need and then you're like, this is your space. See
- 13:17Speaker 1: you later, ft FAM, Pinstriped Territory has you covered. With
- 13:21Speaker 1: the Yankees postgame show, whether they win or lose, Derek
- 13:25Speaker 1: Lewandowski will be there for you. He hustles. He does
- 13:27Speaker 1: postgame shows all year on the Yanks. This is his
- 13:31Speaker 1: big moment, and same thing with Robbie Hyde, who's the
- 13:34Speaker 1: counterpart on the Boston side. Also fantastic. These two are great.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Give them a little look on the postgame show tonight.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Maybe you do a little bit of Robbie, a little
- 13:43Speaker 1: bit of Derek for insight. Hey back for two minutes
- 13:46Speaker 1: and the TV crowd will swing back in. Yoshida is
- 13:48Speaker 1: eleven for eighteen in his first played appearance of a
- 13:51Speaker 1: game this month. He's also been on fire the last
- 13:53Speaker 1: couple months. He missed the first ninety three games coming
- 13:56Speaker 1: back from his shoulder issue. Do you know who signed him,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and he was looked at as a disaster signing. Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 1: that was like the stain on him, like how could you?
- 14:05Speaker 1: And it's just funny that Yoshidas one of the biggest thing,
- 14:09Speaker 1: I know, the whole deal. We get knocked for that, like, oh,
- 14:12Speaker 1: you guys are giving too much, Like I'm sorry, that's
- 14:15Speaker 1: how the team is built.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he's supposed to do. Him Bloom was
- 14:20Speaker 3: supposed to build up a infrastructure. Oh and draft players
- 14:24Speaker 3: and have coaches that teach them like stop stop, he
- 14:29Speaker 3: built that team.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's just funny. I mean, Yoshida as a
- 14:34Speaker 1: whole has not worked out for the team. But then
- 14:36Speaker 1: if you're a Red Sox fan and you see what
- 14:38Speaker 1: he did, I mean, the dude can hit. When he's healthy,
- 14:40Speaker 1: he can hit. That has not been a question. Have
- 14:44Speaker 1: not the power, terrible fielder or bad fielder at least right.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Well, that's why they tried to hie them and left. Yeah,
- 14:51Speaker 2: like Manny Ramira said yesterday, Oh, it's very small in leftfield.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I don't want to play right field.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I think they thought, no, it's right, but I think
- 14:57Speaker 1: they thought he would have been like Okay, I know
- 15:00Speaker 1: he was bad, bad, but he can hit one of
- 15:05Speaker 1: the biggest hits they've had in a long time.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean he's part of a team that's in
- 15:10Speaker 2: the playoffs and they're up one on one the Yankees.
- 15:12Speaker 2: If they win this, everyone every If they go on
- 15:14Speaker 2: and make a deep run, everyone forgets everything else.
- 15:16Speaker 1: No, they're going to look at it and be like, oh,
- 15:17Speaker 1: who signed him?
- 15:18Speaker 2: Nice Boston and New York Man all the matters is
- 15:20Speaker 2: the postseason? LA is getting to that point too.
- 15:22Speaker 1: No, let's say better than box scores, the Los Angeles
- 15:34Speaker 1: Dodgers are still good at ball. Do the Cincinnati Reds
- 15:38Speaker 1: have a chance in this series?
- 15:41Speaker 2: No? Now.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Jim Bowden was so firm about it when Yeah, I
- 15:45Speaker 1: got that record's going to be good next year, it
- 15:47Speaker 1: was like, I'm good, they have no chance.
- 15:49Speaker 2: They did score a run. It's the first run they've
- 15:51Speaker 2: scored in the postseason since twenty thirteen.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Five runs.
- 15:54Speaker 2: They scored a run.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Do the Dodgers have a bullpen problem?
- 16:00Speaker 2: We've been talking about this forever. Where was Roki.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Saving him?
- 16:05Speaker 2: I guess for today? Yeah, for the Yamamoto Roki. This
- 16:09Speaker 2: was supposed to listen harmy matchup for Roki because Roki
- 16:11Speaker 2: can come in to strike all the dude job because
- 16:13Speaker 2: they swing and everything.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Right, but you need to throw strike scrats. And they
- 16:16Speaker 1: had an historically crazy inning, right, fifty nine pitches in
- 16:20Speaker 1: the eighth inning, most in a single playoff inning since
- 16:22Speaker 1: at least nineteen eighty eight.
- 16:25Speaker 3: It's a lot of pitches.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I was.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I was confused while they brought Vessia in, but as
- 16:30Speaker 3: the inning unfolded, maybe this is where he sees Vessia
- 16:34Speaker 3: Enriquez like guys that He's like, you know what, I'm
- 16:39Speaker 3: probably not going to go to you in big games.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Which I was confused by Vessia. I really was, because
- 16:43Speaker 3: I thought, I know, he had some blips at the
- 16:45Speaker 3: end of the season, but I thought he would be
- 16:47Speaker 3: a guy you'd go to in the normal one or
- 16:50Speaker 3: two run game in the seventh like, bang, that's our guy.
- 16:53Speaker 2: But hey, I was wrong.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And for Dodger fans, you watched the team that put
- 17:00Speaker 1: up ten runs in a game that included Hunter Green starting,
- 17:04Speaker 1: and I actually didn't think his stuff was bad. He
- 17:06Speaker 1: was a little over ampton at the beginning.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Listen, it was kind of like what happened to Dylan
- 17:09Speaker 2: Cees last year. Once so tany hit that home run.
- 17:12Speaker 2: It kind of was like, oh wow, what a wake
- 17:14Speaker 2: up call. Yeah, and then after that, I mean it
- 17:16Speaker 2: was he he didn't His stuff was good, but his
- 17:20Speaker 2: location wasn't very good. If you make mistakes of this
- 17:23Speaker 2: Dodger team man, especially in the postseason when they're awake
- 17:25Speaker 2: and they're like, we have to win and they've turned
- 17:27Speaker 2: it on, it's it's it's a tough lineup to navigate.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I mean, have Monsie back if the Oscar hits. I mean,
- 17:33Speaker 2: you can't throw Showy right there. I mean, that's just
- 17:35Speaker 2: that's a nothing ball down down, and in Ti Oscar
- 17:38Speaker 2: a little nothing ball. Every Tommy Edmunds playoff. Tommy edmund
- 17:43Speaker 2: Snell pitched well, Snow pitched great. Yeah, seven innings, right,
- 17:47Speaker 2: you give up two.
- 17:47Speaker 1: But that's what you want.
- 17:49Speaker 2: It's perfect. You were up ten to two and Snow
- 17:52Speaker 2: came out handed off. You're like an eight run leagues close,
- 17:54Speaker 2: you know, and then all of a sudden it gets
- 17:55Speaker 2: a little bit dicey. Not really, but it got a
- 17:57Speaker 2: little dicey.
- 17:58Speaker 1: If you're playing from playoff team, that could get really dicey.
- 18:02Speaker 1: You're suddenly down five bases loaded, one out. I mean
- 18:06Speaker 1: the Tyler Stevenson at bat, for example, ended up costing
- 18:10Speaker 1: the Reds a lot in my mind, because he swung
- 18:13Speaker 1: at maybe three or four pitches that were outside of
- 18:15Speaker 1: the zone, including strike three. And I know it's easier
- 18:18Speaker 1: said than done. We're just talking here, but just given
- 18:20Speaker 1: what was going on in that inning, Crats, there were
- 18:23Speaker 1: some ball fours there that could have been walked in
- 18:25Speaker 1: another run and really made things interesting. They were not
- 18:29Speaker 1: throwing enough strikes to get guys out.
- 18:32Speaker 3: It's crazy to me. It was like, I forget who
- 18:35Speaker 3: said it on the broadcast. It was almost like it
- 18:36Speaker 3: was contagious. Came in and it was like, Okay, this
- 18:40Speaker 3: guy's consistently throwing strikes, ball two, ball three, and I thought,
- 18:47Speaker 3: I mean, I thought it was close. When you're at
- 18:49Speaker 3: ten to five and the bases are loaded and they
- 18:52Speaker 3: and they're not throwing you strikes, that's the biggest thing.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Like watch the whole game, not just watch like, oh,
- 18:57Speaker 3: he struck out there. So it really wasn't that big
- 18:59Speaker 3: of a d like you're not. You have to you
- 19:03Speaker 3: have to pump the middle of the strike zone. When
- 19:05Speaker 3: you have a for six run lead, five run lead,
- 19:09Speaker 3: you gotta pump the middle of strike zone, because even
- 19:11Speaker 3: a home run doesn't tie the ballgame. But it'll be
- 19:15Speaker 3: interesting to see how it goes forward because Blake Snell
- 19:18Speaker 3: has already done what we said we thought we would
- 19:21Speaker 3: see from Doc Roberts, and it was a no brainer.
- 19:24Speaker 3: He was pitching well. But Blake Snell broke his own
- 19:27Speaker 3: personal record, which I've been crying for since he was
- 19:31Speaker 3: with the Rays. I don't think he's a guy you
- 19:34Speaker 3: take out third time through the order. He's consistently in
- 19:37Speaker 3: his career, especially the last three years, been better the
- 19:42Speaker 3: third time through the order. So good for Doc not
- 19:45Speaker 3: just pulling the hook and being like, hey, we'll save you.
- 19:47Speaker 3: We're going in the next round. We got to get
- 19:49Speaker 3: our bullpen some work. Stuck with them. Longest outing ever
- 19:53Speaker 3: in the playoffs.
- 19:54Speaker 1: That's cool. He's got three great secondary pitches and as
- 19:57Speaker 1: long as he's throwing strikes.
- 20:00Speaker 2: About the mc McLain had a nice game, so good
- 20:03Speaker 2: for him after he's kind of been through a crappy season,
- 20:05Speaker 2: So good for him. A couple of hits and all that,
- 20:07Speaker 2: But yeah, the Dodgers just didn't those strikes last night.
- 20:10Speaker 2: That was the biggest problem. They just weren't throwing strikes.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I mean they were walking these guys in the red swing, right,
- 20:17Speaker 2: So listen, Stevenson, it happens. I've struck out of the
- 20:20Speaker 2: basis loaded. And then they asked me after the game
- 20:22Speaker 2: and I'm like, yeah, what happens. Have you ever hit
- 20:25Speaker 2: with the basil loaded? Yeah? Strike out? Sometimes everyone does,
- 20:28Speaker 2: even you know, Luisa Rise, I guarantee you struck out
- 20:30Speaker 2: of the basil loaded. So guy strikes out, he swings
- 20:33Speaker 2: at the bat. It's baseball's hard man especially, it gets
- 20:36Speaker 2: ramped up and everyone's like, oh, how do you not?
- 20:38Speaker 2: How do you swing at that? Because the guy's trying
- 20:41Speaker 2: to get you to swing at that. Yeah, he's not
- 20:43Speaker 2: just gonna throw it down the middle and say hit it.
- 20:45Speaker 1: He's tunneling and then trying to make you think that
- 20:46Speaker 1: it's going to be in the zone.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And then it's hard. Let's always remember. I think that's
- 20:50Speaker 2: the biggest thing people don't understay. Baseball is really hard,
- 20:53Speaker 2: and you get into these hypened moments and it gets
- 20:55Speaker 2: even harder.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, we've got Jack Harris back on foul Territory,
- 20:58Speaker 1: Dodgers beat writer for The l Times. Jack. Great to
- 21:01Speaker 1: have you on. We're gonna look a little bit at
- 21:03Speaker 1: Game one and then spin it forward to Game two.
- 21:05Speaker 1: First off, I just want to start with show Hey
- 21:08Speaker 1: Otani and how much he set the tone for an
- 21:10Speaker 1: offense that has its ups and downs. From the twenty
- 21:13Speaker 1: twenty five season, they weren't perfect.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, I mean, you know, the up until the
- 21:18Speaker 5: last couple of weeks of the regular season here, the
- 21:20Speaker 5: offense was a real question for the Dodgers. They had
- 21:24Speaker 5: guys that were out injured, they weren't executing in situational spots,
- 21:28Speaker 5: and they weren't getting the kind of performances from some
- 21:31Speaker 5: of their stars. Show Hey and Otani included that they
- 21:35Speaker 5: needed to, and over the last couple of weeks, all
- 21:38Speaker 5: of those things got better. Otani specifically came into the
- 21:41Speaker 5: postseason in a really good spot, and there's just something
- 21:44Speaker 5: about when he has those kinds of moments, it's a
- 21:47Speaker 5: lift for the team. It puts a jolt in the stadium.
- 21:50Speaker 5: It was similar to Game one of the postseason last
- 21:52Speaker 5: year for the Dodgers when they were down three to
- 21:55Speaker 5: nothing early and he had a three run homer in
- 21:56Speaker 5: the second. And yeah, I mean for a lineup that
- 22:00Speaker 5: you know, in some ways, it was almost not happy
- 22:02Speaker 5: that they didn't have a buy this year, but was
- 22:05Speaker 5: happy to not have five days off after the way
- 22:07Speaker 5: they finished the year. To have him step in there
- 22:09Speaker 5: and start the game that way, I think yes kind
- 22:12Speaker 5: of set the tone for what you saw the rest
- 22:14Speaker 5: of the night Jack.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Was this just a matter of the Dodgers offense having
- 22:17Speaker 2: to flip a switch because they were on cruise control
- 22:19Speaker 2: the whole year. I know we're going to make the playoffs,
- 22:21Speaker 2: we're going to win the division where oh we got
- 22:23Speaker 2: to play now, and all of a sudden booth ten
- 22:25Speaker 2: spot against Hunter Green. I mean, had good stuff, missed
- 22:28Speaker 2: some location, but still this looked like the Dodgers' offense
- 22:31Speaker 2: just flipped the switch into full we're going to be
- 22:33Speaker 2: the Dodgers mode.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Yeah, this flip the switch question has been one that's
- 22:39Speaker 5: kind of been hovering around the team for the last
- 22:41Speaker 5: couple months. I think, you know, Frankly and guys have
- 22:45Speaker 5: said it, it's tough to bring, especially when you're coming
- 22:49Speaker 5: off a World Series and you start the year in
- 22:51Speaker 5: Japan early like they did, and you have all these
- 22:53Speaker 5: expectations and you know that you're a really good team.
- 22:56Speaker 5: It's tough to bring that highest level of intensity on
- 22:59Speaker 5: a daily basis over the course of the year. And
- 23:01Speaker 5: I think something that happened as the team was struggling
- 23:04Speaker 5: during the second half, as their division lead was getting
- 23:06Speaker 5: a lot tighter, was that they got a little bit
- 23:09Speaker 5: more intentional about talking to each other, having the hitting
- 23:12Speaker 5: coaches tell them, hey, you know, when we get guys
- 23:14Speaker 5: in scoring position, we got to take advantage. When we're
- 23:17Speaker 5: facing good starters, we have to stick to our game plan,
- 23:19Speaker 5: and we have to be disciplined. You know, a lot
- 23:21Speaker 5: of guys were working through swing problems this year, and
- 23:24Speaker 5: there are times where, you know, it almost looked like
- 23:26Speaker 5: swing camp, as one of their hitting coaches put it,
- 23:28Speaker 5: where guys were more focused on their mechanics than just competing.
- 23:31Speaker 5: And I think over the last couple of weeks of
- 23:32Speaker 5: the season, they've done a much better job of getting
- 23:35Speaker 5: back to the identity of offense that has really defined
- 23:38Speaker 5: this team for so long, which is stressing opposing pitchers.
- 23:41Speaker 5: You know, you look at the Taoscar Hernandez home run
- 23:45Speaker 5: that's set up by a couple really good at bats
- 23:46Speaker 5: from Freddie Freeman and Max Months the leading up to
- 23:48Speaker 5: it to be able to draw some Walks put him
- 23:50Speaker 5: under pressure and then ta Oscar Hernandez gets the chance
- 23:53Speaker 5: to do damage. So I think, yes, a flip has
- 23:56Speaker 5: been switched. I think it's something they were able to
- 23:57Speaker 5: do late in the regular season. They were hoped he
- 24:00Speaker 5: wouldrry into the playoffs and last night was a pretty
- 24:02Speaker 5: good first sign.
- 24:04Speaker 3: You can just say all their offenses based around Max Muntcy,
- 24:07Speaker 3: and nobody gives him enough credit because his numbers and
- 24:09Speaker 3: his trophy case aren't as big. But if this team
- 24:15Speaker 3: is going to continue this offensive run, where are the
- 24:19Speaker 3: areas that teams are going to attack? Because to me,
- 24:22Speaker 3: all the way up through tay Oskar and obviously Tommy
- 24:25Speaker 3: Edmond just does what he does in the playoffs, you
- 24:29Speaker 3: just have a relentless lineup that is going to wear
- 24:32Speaker 3: pitching down. Where is the area that a team can
- 24:36Speaker 3: attack say, okay, we can do this if I do
- 24:39Speaker 3: this to the Dodgers.
- 24:41Speaker 5: Lineup, Yeah, this is still a lineup that can sometimes
- 24:45Speaker 5: be prone to getting over aggressive, swinging out of the zone.
- 24:50Speaker 5: I think you know, when you look at Shoheo Tani
- 24:52Speaker 5: last October that was kind of the story of it
- 24:54Speaker 5: for him is for all the big moments he did have.
- 24:57Speaker 5: He also got a little swing happy at times and
- 24:58Speaker 5: started chasing pitches should and starting to feel like he
- 25:01Speaker 5: needed to do too much. That it's something where you
- 25:05Speaker 5: have to you have to make like every guy kind
- 25:08Speaker 5: of feel like they need to pick up more of
- 25:10Speaker 5: the slack right than they probably need to. But that's
- 25:13Speaker 5: difficult to do when you have so many guys in
- 25:15Speaker 5: the lineup clicking like you've seen lately. You know, if
- 25:18Speaker 5: Max Munsey is being productive and getting on base, and
- 25:21Speaker 5: Tommy Edmonds being productive and having big hits, and they
- 25:23Speaker 5: Oscar Hernandez is looking like the guy who helped carry
- 25:26Speaker 5: this team to a World Series last October, it allows
- 25:30Speaker 5: everybody else to be a lot more disciplined in their
- 25:31Speaker 5: individual approaches, and something these guys have talked about, you know,
- 25:34Speaker 5: at the end of the season. So that's the challenge
- 25:36Speaker 5: because they are so talented. I mean, this was the
- 25:39Speaker 5: really confounding part of when they struggled and were like
- 25:42Speaker 5: the fourth lowest scoring offense from from July to the
- 25:46Speaker 5: end of August, which is there was so much talent
- 25:49Speaker 5: in the room, but guys just were not sticking to
- 25:51Speaker 5: their approach. So the way they've looked at it. It's
- 25:53Speaker 5: always an eternal thing. Like Max Mounsey always says, we're
- 25:56Speaker 5: playing against our self first and foremost, and if we
- 25:58Speaker 5: can go out there and execute we need to do,
- 26:00Speaker 5: stick to our plan, have good at bats, and they
- 26:02Speaker 5: take advantage of the mistakes that we do generate from
- 26:05Speaker 5: opposing pitchers. We feel like, you know, we we can
- 26:08Speaker 5: score as much as we need to, and that's gonna
- 26:11Speaker 5: make it an interesting test, you know, for opposing pitching
- 26:13Speaker 5: staff to try to figure out how to put them
- 26:15Speaker 5: under a little bit more stress as the playoffs go on.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Okay, enough about the offense. We know the Dodgers can hit.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Let's let's get to the real Let's get to the
- 26:23Speaker 2: real meat of this Dodgers problem. What the heck are
- 26:25Speaker 2: they going to do in the bullpen? It was a
- 26:28Speaker 2: better problem down the stretch. It was a problem last night.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And I know they still won ten to five, but
- 26:33Speaker 2: they were on cruise control and then all of a sudden,
- 26:35Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, we it's all hands on deck. Is
- 26:37Speaker 2: Tanner Scott gonna close? Is Rokie gonna close? Where do
- 26:40Speaker 2: they you know they use VESI in an eight run game?
- 26:42Speaker 2: It works, Emma san What are they gonna do here
- 26:45Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. If you're Dave Roberts, are you like, man,
- 26:47Speaker 2: we got this great team, but there's all these problems
- 26:50Speaker 2: at the back end. Yeah.
- 26:52Speaker 5: The butt in that sentence kind of became the story
- 26:55Speaker 5: last night, which is they have all the pieces, but
- 26:58Speaker 5: how do you make sure the bullpen and doesn't blow it.
- 27:01Speaker 5: What was really discourting or disconcerting about last night is
- 27:04Speaker 5: Alex Vesia is one of their highest trusted relievers, especially
- 27:08Speaker 5: of like the traditional relief group. He's been the one
- 27:10Speaker 5: guy who was mostly healthy all year, who is mostly
- 27:13Speaker 5: good all year, and who was more than anybody else,
- 27:16Speaker 5: probably like the fireman guy that they wanted to be
- 27:18Speaker 5: able to turn to when situations got hot and there
- 27:21Speaker 5: was traffic on base. And to see him come in
- 27:24Speaker 5: in an eight run game, I mean when he came in.
- 27:26Speaker 5: The joke in the press box last night is man,
- 27:28Speaker 5: even with an eight run lead, Dave Roberts isn't taking
- 27:30Speaker 5: chances by putting in one of his most trusted guys.
- 27:33Speaker 5: And to see him come in, give up a hit
- 27:35Speaker 5: and then walk a batter like the walk and a
- 27:37Speaker 5: batter with that big of a lead, it hits on
- 27:39Speaker 5: this problem the Dodgers have had that Dave Roberts has
- 27:42Speaker 5: talked about, which is sometimes it just looks like guys
- 27:44Speaker 5: are not being aggressive enough, are almost pitching scared, are
- 27:48Speaker 5: letting the mental toll and the frustrations and the lack
- 27:52Speaker 5: of confidence from the whole season kind of way on them,
- 27:55Speaker 5: pitch by pitch by pitch, And that's at the tone
- 27:57Speaker 5: for the rest of the inning. You know, seeing Edgardo
- 27:59Speaker 5: Nriquez come in and struggle with his command, that that's
- 28:02Speaker 5: something he's prone to. Jack Dryer, like I heard you
- 28:05Speaker 5: guys mentioned it earlier, Tyler Stevenson helped him out by
- 28:08Speaker 5: swinging it a couple pitches outside of the strike zone.
- 28:11Speaker 5: That one more walk I think could have really made
- 28:14Speaker 5: that situation uncomfortable for the Dodgers. So look moving forward
- 28:18Speaker 5: that they're going to have to start doing different things.
- 28:20Speaker 5: And I think you would have seen a different game
- 28:22Speaker 5: plan last night if it was less than an eight
- 28:24Speaker 5: run lead. But Roki Sasaki is going to pitch beginnings.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Emmit Shean, who was warming at the end of that
- 28:29Speaker 5: eighth inning, is somebody that they're kind of hoping can
- 28:32Speaker 5: be one of their best relievers now that he's been
- 28:35Speaker 5: moved to the bullpen for this series. Tyler Glass now
- 28:37Speaker 5: is going to be available down there. Blake trying intos
- 28:40Speaker 5: someone they're hoping can figure it out a little bit.
- 28:42Speaker 5: They're going to probably keep him in some softer landing
- 28:45Speaker 5: spots like you saw last night with a five run lead,
- 28:47Speaker 5: to try to let him build some confidence. Tanner Scott
- 28:50Speaker 5: is in the same boat. But if those kinds of
- 28:54Speaker 5: performances continue, I think then you have to start thinking
- 28:57Speaker 5: about getting really outside the box, using your starters on
- 28:59Speaker 5: their bullpen days in relief, you know, a lot more aggressively.
- 29:04Speaker 5: You know, Clayton Kershaw is kind of being saved right
- 29:07Speaker 5: now to see if he needs to start a division
- 29:09Speaker 5: series game or early, depending on how this series goes.
- 29:12Speaker 5: But that's at least somebody that if you put out
- 29:14Speaker 5: there in relief, you know he's going to be not
- 29:16Speaker 5: rattled by the moment and get the ball over the plate.
- 29:18Speaker 5: So this is this was the big question coming into
- 29:22Speaker 5: the playoffs. Could they trust the traditional relievers. There were
- 29:25Speaker 5: some encouraging signs at the end of the season, but
- 29:27Speaker 5: last night was a real warning sign that they're going
- 29:30Speaker 5: to have to get creative with that unit because the
- 29:33Speaker 5: guys that make up the traditional pen are just not
- 29:35Speaker 5: in a good place right now.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Okay, so then tonight, let's use we'll go right to tonight.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Then let's say, you know, Yalamoto has a nice start,
- 29:44Speaker 2: right he goes, he gives them six innings and the
- 29:46Speaker 2: scores two to two. Does he go right to san
- 29:48Speaker 2: right to Roki and leave Tanner Scott and trying to
- 29:51Speaker 2: these other guys out of it and go with these
- 29:53Speaker 2: new toys basically that he has in the bullpen, Dave
- 29:56Speaker 2: Roberts or does he still try to go trying in
- 29:58Speaker 2: and close it with Scott if they take lead late
- 30:01Speaker 2: on a Red's bullpen that's been really good.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I think Roki and Shean right now are going to
- 30:05Speaker 5: be the guys that he would turn to, especially in
- 30:07Speaker 5: a closer game.
- 30:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 30:09Speaker 5: To me, an interesting question is if there's a situation
- 30:12Speaker 5: where there's around of lefties coming up, who do you
- 30:14Speaker 5: trust in that spot? The Dodgers kind of look at
- 30:17Speaker 5: em at Chians as a neutral guy that I think
- 30:19Speaker 5: they would trusted to face some left handed hitters. Obviously,
- 30:23Speaker 5: you know, you brought Tanner Scott here for a reason.
- 30:26Speaker 5: He's going to have to contribute at some point alex Vezia.
- 30:30Speaker 5: You know, I think it'll be interesting to see how
- 30:33Speaker 5: last night how much that changed their trust level in him,
- 30:36Speaker 5: at least in the short term. But yeah, I think
- 30:39Speaker 5: right now you're going to see Shean Roki and then
- 30:41Speaker 5: maybe Tyler Glass now, though with them being up in
- 30:44Speaker 5: the series, I'd imagine they probably try to stay away
- 30:47Speaker 5: from him just in case things go to tomorrow. But
- 30:50Speaker 5: that's the place that they're at. And the blessing for
- 30:53Speaker 5: this team is that they have so much starting pitching
- 30:55Speaker 5: depth that they can put three or four starters in
- 30:58Speaker 5: the bullpen and have them step into big roles and
- 31:00Speaker 5: trust that they're going to pitch well. But it's still
- 31:02Speaker 5: putting them in situations that we haven't seen very much.
- 31:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Immachian has a couple of relief appearances this year in
- 31:09Speaker 5: bulk innings. Rookie Sasaki, for as good as those two
- 31:12Speaker 5: outings at the end of the regular season looked, still
- 31:15Speaker 5: had never pitched in relief in his life up until
- 31:17Speaker 5: the last month. So it is an uncomfortable place. The
- 31:21Speaker 5: Dodgers are hoping that they still have like just the
- 31:23Speaker 5: overall talent, but it's trying to figure out who can
- 31:26Speaker 5: you trust them with spots, who's going to go out
- 31:28Speaker 5: there and throw competitive pitches? And when you don't know
- 31:31Speaker 5: those answers, it makes planning out how the end of
- 31:35Speaker 5: a game looks, or figuring out who to turn to
- 31:38Speaker 5: in a certain situation if you're Dave Roberts, just not
- 31:42Speaker 5: a very fun task.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yes, you know about Yamamoto is starting his thirty first game.
- 31:50Speaker 3: That is five more starts and he's ever had in
- 31:52Speaker 3: his entire life in one season. Is there a fear
- 31:57Speaker 3: they never got some days off? I know he threw
- 32:00Speaker 3: in six days rotation, but is there a fear that
- 32:03Speaker 3: he's going to tire down the end here? I get it,
- 32:06Speaker 3: he hasn't in his last starts, but this is uncharted
- 32:09Speaker 3: territory by a lot of starts.
- 32:13Speaker 5: There's not a fear. The Dodgers answer to this question
- 32:17Speaker 5: has been yes, it's more starts, but it's not a
- 32:22Speaker 5: huge difference in the overall innings. When he was in Japan,
- 32:25Speaker 5: he would throw a lot more pitches in each of
- 32:27Speaker 5: his outings than he does over here. And they've also
- 32:31Speaker 5: just seen him week after week go through his training
- 32:34Speaker 5: program every week, throw his javelins in the outfield and
- 32:39Speaker 5: continue to look like he's in a good spot physically
- 32:42Speaker 5: every time he takes the mound. Yeah, tonight, this is
- 32:45Speaker 5: the kind of game I'd expect that you see some
- 32:48Speaker 5: ninety sevens, ninety eights on the board with him with
- 32:50Speaker 5: his fastball, which is something he does typically in bigger
- 32:54Speaker 5: moments that he wants to try to rise up to.
- 32:57Speaker 5: So it's been a really impressive year from him because, yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 5: the durability, the injuries, the question of could he handle,
- 33:05Speaker 5: you know, pitching on a regular schedule or semi regular
- 33:08Speaker 5: schedule coming from Japan over to the big leagues like
- 33:11Speaker 5: that was the whole question about him last season, and
- 33:14Speaker 5: for him to embrace that get better as the season's
- 33:17Speaker 5: gone on, look really comfortable and confident in a way
- 33:19Speaker 5: that we didn't really see last year, really like right
- 33:22Speaker 5: up until the end of the postseason, when he seemed
- 33:24Speaker 5: to finally kind of trust himself in that kind of
- 33:27Speaker 5: environment to go and attack big league hitters and get
- 33:30Speaker 5: get outs, and the way that we've seen this year.
- 33:32Speaker 5: So it's been a really impressive overall year, and the
- 33:36Speaker 5: fact that he's been as durable as he has been
- 33:39Speaker 5: speaks to just the way that he takes care of
- 33:41Speaker 5: his body, that he goes about his preparation between starts,
- 33:44Speaker 5: and yeah, has allowed him to take on a career
- 33:46Speaker 5: high workload this year without many concerns about you know, oh,
- 33:49Speaker 5: is he running out of gas or anything like that.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Jack you mentioned earlier, they might be glad they're playing
- 33:55Speaker 2: in the Wildcard Series. Can I add to that and
- 33:57Speaker 2: ask you their feelings on this. I mean, not only
- 34:00Speaker 2: do they get to play the Wildcard Series. I know
- 34:01Speaker 2: their pitching won't be perfectly lined up for when they
- 34:03Speaker 2: get to if they win and get to play Philly,
- 34:06Speaker 2: But not only do they get these extra games to
- 34:08Speaker 2: try to figure something out. But and I mean this
- 34:11Speaker 2: is with all due respect, but they got to play
- 34:13Speaker 2: the Reds, a team that most people think on paper
- 34:17Speaker 2: is overmatched by them. So is that also a blessing
- 34:20Speaker 2: for them? Yes, they have to play two more or
- 34:22Speaker 2: possibly three more games, and yes the Reds could still
- 34:25Speaker 2: win this series. But if you're the outsider and you're
- 34:27Speaker 2: a Dodger fan, you're like, Okay, we get extra bats
- 34:29Speaker 2: for show. We don't get the time off. We get
- 34:31Speaker 2: to look at guys from our bullpen, whether it's Rokie
- 34:34Speaker 2: she and Glass now whoever, we need to put in
- 34:36Speaker 2: places and we're playing a team that quite honestly, we
- 34:39Speaker 2: should beat in two games. Yeah.
- 34:41Speaker 5: I think the latter part about the pitching and the
- 34:43Speaker 5: bullpen specifically is the thing I was thinking about coming
- 34:47Speaker 5: into this series. You know, the lineup did not having
- 34:50Speaker 5: to take five days off. You know, again, I think
- 34:52Speaker 5: that's a net plus, but it's not something that you know,
- 34:55Speaker 5: you saw the Dodgers last year. They were able to
- 34:57Speaker 5: kind of overcome that pretty quickly. To me, the benefit
- 35:01Speaker 5: of having things work out this way is that you
- 35:04Speaker 5: potentially gave yourself an opportunity exactly like last night, where
- 35:08Speaker 5: you could build a big lead where you could throw
- 35:10Speaker 5: your relievers and what should have been lower leverage spots
- 35:13Speaker 5: and see if they can build some momentum so that
- 35:15Speaker 5: by the time you do get to the DS, if
- 35:18Speaker 5: you advance and you're facing a much better Phillies lineup,
- 35:20Speaker 5: at least you've had a couple games where the bullpen
- 35:22Speaker 5: had success. And that's what made last night really frustrating.
- 35:25Speaker 5: I think now at least as the eighth inning, as
- 35:28Speaker 5: it pertains to the eighth inning. You know, you look
- 35:29Speaker 5: at the night trying came out and looked, Okay, yeah,
- 35:32Speaker 5: he gave up the one hit on the ball that
- 35:34Speaker 5: Justin Dean couldn't catch in center. But you know, that's
- 35:37Speaker 5: a confidence building moment. And if you go into tonight's
- 35:40Speaker 5: game and Rokie Sasaki can have a good outing if
- 35:42Speaker 5: he's called upon, and Immachian can be good if he's
- 35:44Speaker 5: called upon, then that's going to give those guys confidence
- 35:47Speaker 5: as you move forward. So that is where I think,
- 35:50Speaker 5: in this specific circumstance and playing a team like the
- 35:53Speaker 5: Reds as opposed to the Mets, who would have obviously
- 35:57Speaker 5: provided a much bigger challenge with what they bring offensively,
- 36:01Speaker 5: this should be an opportunity for the Dodgers to, especially
- 36:05Speaker 5: with the one area of their team that needs some
- 36:07Speaker 5: confidence build it. But you still have to execute. And
- 36:11Speaker 5: as you saw in the eighth inning last night, if
- 36:13Speaker 5: you're not throwing strikes, if you're not being aggressive, if
- 36:15Speaker 5: you're not even giving yourself a chance to get outs
- 36:18Speaker 5: as efficiently as you need to, then you know, this
- 36:23Speaker 5: Red line up still pretty good enough to make things
- 36:25Speaker 5: interesting and string a rally together. So that's what's going
- 36:29Speaker 5: to be key to me the next couple nights. Can
- 36:31Speaker 5: the Dodgers not only win this series, but build some
- 36:33Speaker 5: momentum in the bullpen along the way and learn a
- 36:37Speaker 5: little bit about who they trust the most in leverage
- 36:39Speaker 5: spots as they move forward in October.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Very few people are one hundred percent healthy going into
- 36:44Speaker 3: the playoffs, but the Dodgers have two kind of limited
- 36:48Speaker 3: players on their bench, Will Smith and Tommy Edmond. Tommy Edmund,
- 36:54Speaker 3: will he get back to center field or is the
- 36:56Speaker 3: ankle not going to allow him to do that in
- 36:59Speaker 3: this entire in this entire postseason, and Will Smith being
- 37:03Speaker 3: the third catcher pinch hitter off the bench, is that
- 37:07Speaker 3: hand on the path to healing to be able to
- 37:10Speaker 3: get behind the dish as early as the NLDS against
- 37:14Speaker 3: the Phillies.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:16Speaker 5: With Tommy Edmund, I think in the short term they're
- 37:18Speaker 5: going to probably try to keep him on the infield.
- 37:21Speaker 5: We saw this earlier this season with this ankle injury,
- 37:24Speaker 5: where when he's in the outfield and he's having to
- 37:29Speaker 5: make these kind of bigger turns and then go into
- 37:31Speaker 5: a sprint like those are the things that bottle the
- 37:33Speaker 5: ankle a little bit more than when he just has
- 37:34Speaker 5: to shuffle laterally at second base. So that could change
- 37:38Speaker 5: you know, depending on how the ankle feels moving forward,
- 37:40Speaker 5: but I think for right now they would prefer to
- 37:42Speaker 5: just keep him at second base. Will Smith, Andrew Frieman
- 37:46Speaker 5: said yesterday the fracture in his hand is healed, which
- 37:49Speaker 5: is a really big development because that means that's what's
- 37:53Speaker 5: kind of allowed him to start ramping up his activity
- 37:56Speaker 5: and intensity and taking swings in live at bats on
- 37:59Speaker 5: the workout and throwing the ball again and things like that.
- 38:02Speaker 5: So Dave Roberts has left the door open for him
- 38:04Speaker 5: potentially starting this week. I think that would probably only happen,
- 38:09Speaker 5: especially now if they lose tonight and are facing elimination tomorrow.
- 38:13Speaker 5: But the hope is that, yes, maybe as soon as
- 38:16Speaker 5: the DS the throwing strength will be back to where
- 38:19Speaker 5: he needs it to be. The swings, he'll have taken
- 38:24Speaker 5: enough of them to feel confident that, Okay, if I
- 38:26Speaker 5: go and take five at bats one night, I'm not
- 38:28Speaker 5: going to wake up with my hands swollen and in
- 38:30Speaker 5: pain and unable to play the next Those are kind
- 38:32Speaker 5: of the last boxes that he needs to check. But yeah,
- 38:36Speaker 5: for where this situation was a week ago, I think
- 38:39Speaker 5: that the fact that Will Smith is on the roster
- 38:41Speaker 5: available to pinch it now and could potentially be back
- 38:43Speaker 5: to starting games in the next week or so. Is
- 38:45Speaker 5: a really positive development.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Jack, great insight. We always love having you on, so
- 38:50Speaker 1: we appreciate the ten twelve minutes here with us. I
- 38:53Speaker 1: enjoy the game tonight and thanks for joining us. All right,
- 38:56Speaker 1: Thanks guys. That's Jack Harris. Make sure you check out
- 38:59Speaker 1: his work in the LA Times and you can follow
- 39:02Speaker 1: him at b y Jack Harris on Twitter. Also, Dodgers
- 39:06Speaker 1: postgame show is lit. Last night about a thousand people
- 39:09Speaker 1: live watching Alana and Clint talk about the Dodgers good
- 39:13Speaker 1: and bad, and they'll do it again this evening, so
- 39:15Speaker 1: check it out live on YouTube or wherever you get
- 39:18Speaker 1: your podcasts. They'll post it afterward. Oh Kratz, we've got
- 39:21Speaker 1: a battle here. One of their Friar Territory hosts, Mike Cameron,
- 39:24Speaker 1: disagrees with you. You got to go with your everyday guys,
- 39:26Speaker 1: if you're the Yankees, especially a guy who faced the
- 39:29Speaker 1: lead pitching all year, so he's primed. If anything, he said,
- 39:32Speaker 1: he's putting Bellinger and center in Rosario in left field.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Your thoughts.
- 39:38Speaker 3: I'm still reading this, I'm not defends the Yankees decisions
- 39:41Speaker 3: a start on my Rosario last night. I mean, I'm
- 39:45Speaker 3: not saying you gotta I'm not saying you gotta play
- 39:48Speaker 3: him for Jazz. I'm saying, I'm in Rosario has to
- 39:51Speaker 3: be in there. So you're saying so he was saying
- 39:55Speaker 3: you have to play your elite hitters. So who is
- 39:58Speaker 3: Who's Cameron saying shouldn't be in there?
- 40:03Speaker 1: He's saying, if anything, you reconfigure the outfield. Yes, and
- 40:06Speaker 1: you take Grisham out, you put Belly in center, Rosario
- 40:10Speaker 1: and left, and you put obviously Judges and right.
- 40:13Speaker 3: But then the argument is, then why is Grisham not
- 40:15Speaker 3: in there? Grisham had thirty what home runs? So did
- 40:18Speaker 3: Jess right? So so the argument, the argument is both ways.
- 40:23Speaker 3: To me, if you have six Rice, why had Ben
- 40:28Speaker 3: Rice not play over Austin Wells. I think catching positions
- 40:32Speaker 3: a little different. You know that Aja, maybe Max Freed
- 40:36Speaker 3: and Austin Wells, you know, worked well together. I'm not
- 40:39Speaker 3: sure you know if there's a framing metric in there,
- 40:43Speaker 3: because you know, I don't know about that part of it.
- 40:46Speaker 3: But either way, you're kind of damned if you do,
- 40:49Speaker 3: damned if you don't. You have to get on ad
- 40:51Speaker 3: Rosario in there. I think. I don't think Mikey Cameron's
- 40:55Speaker 3: disagreeing with me on that. The guy was six for nine,
- 40:58Speaker 3: not six for eight, six for nine, and you got
- 41:02Speaker 3: to get him in the lineup somewhere. So one of
- 41:05Speaker 3: the two thirty home run guys, I guess has to sit.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's saying Freedom right should have been
- 41:11Speaker 2: in there.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Had two hits yesterday, Goldie had two hits, And I
- 41:16Speaker 1: agree on the.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Well goldies Rake LIFTI that's.
- 41:18Speaker 1: His thing, only playing against left well as a catcher,
- 41:22Speaker 1: I'm okay with Yeah, I'm.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Okay with that. But Jazz I think should have been
- 41:26Speaker 2: in there.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Somehow somewhat okay, didn't happen.
- 41:30Speaker 2: It didn't happen, and we got to Now we can
- 41:32Speaker 2: talk about it, and.
- 41:33Speaker 1: It's a good problem for them. They have options, but
- 41:36Speaker 1: that leaves you to field more scrutiny because you have
- 41:40Speaker 1: good options to choose from. That's what happens, and if
- 41:42Speaker 1: you don't win a game, those options get scrutinized. That's
- 41:45Speaker 1: how sports works. We get to sit here and talk
- 41:49Speaker 1: and not have the pressure of the job. That's how
- 41:52Speaker 1: it works. But good answer there from Camp he's back
- 41:54Speaker 1: on the show with us. You can listen to him
- 41:56Speaker 1: every night on wf A N. But because of the Yanks.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Well, I get paid to talk.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought you'd be. I thought you'd be all
- 42:06Speaker 2: clogged up from all the tears you were crying last
- 42:08Speaker 2: night with Jazz didn't play.
- 42:09Speaker 4: No, I'm not crying any tears. That wasn't a one
- 42:11Speaker 4: game elimination. I was on the radio for four hours
- 42:14Speaker 4: last night after the game. I've said everything, I've gone
- 42:16Speaker 4: over everything. I'm ready to drive right back to the
- 42:18Speaker 4: Bronx today. What's up, guys, What's up?
- 42:21Speaker 1: So summarize it for me? What was the biggest talking
- 42:24Speaker 1: point last night for you and how you were fielding
- 42:26Speaker 1: calls and how you were answering them and mixing in
- 42:29Speaker 1: what you would do if you were the Yankees.
- 42:32Speaker 4: The turning point of the game, The topic that was
- 42:35Speaker 4: coming up on the call screen was taking out Max
- 42:38Speaker 4: Free to go to Luke Weaver. And honestly, you can
- 42:42Speaker 4: talk a bunch of ways around it. It's compounded because
- 42:45Speaker 4: you see Garret Crochet standing there and throw one hundred
- 42:47Speaker 4: and seventeen pitches, retire seventeen batters in a row, and
- 42:51Speaker 4: then afterwards, Alex Corus says, yeah, you know, we build
- 42:54Speaker 4: up our starter in the regular season to get to
- 42:57Speaker 4: this postseason where we push him. You know, like Max
- 43:02Speaker 4: Freed at one hundred and two pitches was pitching a
- 43:04Speaker 4: way different game than Garrett Crochet was. He had runners on.
- 43:08Speaker 4: I won't say he was laboring, but he did have
- 43:10Speaker 4: a twenty four pitch inning, a twenty pitch inning, and
- 43:14Speaker 4: on that last play that he fielded his position and
- 43:17Speaker 4: he raced Duran to first base. When I'm in the
- 43:19Speaker 4: stadium and not watching on TV, I'm asking the guys
- 43:22Speaker 4: around me, did he look tired, Does he look exhausted,
- 43:26Speaker 4: Does he look like he's done, and maybe, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 4: exerting extra energy to get that play right there. That's
- 43:32Speaker 4: where it was like, Okay, you're over the magic number,
- 43:34Speaker 4: which I don't know for some reason, if you hit
- 43:37Speaker 4: triple digits, now it's the witching hour where everybody's like,
- 43:40Speaker 4: this guy's gonna turn into a pumpkin. Boone went and
- 43:44Speaker 4: took the ball out of his hands to go to
- 43:46Speaker 4: Luke Weaver. And I've been saying, hindsight is twenty twenty.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Luke Weaver is fifty to fifty Luke Weaver has not
- 43:51Speaker 4: been the same Luke Weaver this year. He faces the
- 43:54Speaker 4: eight to nine hitter. He already has it out in
- 43:56Speaker 4: the game. He should be able to get that done.
- 43:58Speaker 4: He goes up two on Saddan Rafaela and it's like
- 44:01Speaker 4: bro An eleven pitch at bat. He wins it, so
- 44:05Speaker 4: Guard doubles. It's like all the little things start to
- 44:08Speaker 4: come out. Judge's arm is exposed. And then Alex Korra
- 44:13Speaker 4: is playing chess while Boone is playing checkers. He puts
- 44:16Speaker 4: in Masataka Yoshida. First pitch, Boom, the lead is gone.
- 44:20Speaker 4: And just that little sequence right there is what everybody
- 44:23Speaker 4: wanted to talk about. There were some other things, obviously
- 44:26Speaker 4: with the lineup, definitely with Jazz getting into the game
- 44:29Speaker 4: late as a defensive replacement, and then Jazz going through
- 44:32Speaker 4: his wardrobe, going through his clothes and not you know,
- 44:35Speaker 4: facing the media, and you know, I just think Yankee
- 44:39Speaker 4: fans were down because no one was surprised. They struck
- 44:42Speaker 4: out thirteen times, they didn't work one walk, They scored
- 44:46Speaker 4: one run on a home run. Remember Buck Martinez saying
- 44:49Speaker 4: they're not a good team if they don't hit home runs,
- 44:51Speaker 4: they can't score, like so many of these little things
- 44:53Speaker 4: that we've seen all year, so many these little things
- 44:56Speaker 4: that we've seen in the Aaron Boone era. They happened
- 44:59Speaker 4: last night and people are sick of it, but they're
- 45:02Speaker 4: not out of it. They got to come back tonight
- 45:04Speaker 4: with Carlos Rodin and force the game three, and I
- 45:06Speaker 4: think the advantage can shift into the Yankees favor.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Agreed. Here's my thing about Max Reid. They even said
- 45:14Speaker 2: it on the broadcast. You know, I'm sure you watched
- 45:16Speaker 2: the broadcast last night where they said after he came
- 45:19Speaker 2: in and got the first out, it was the lefty,
- 45:21Speaker 2: it was Duran. He got Duran out in the seventh.
- 45:25Speaker 2: They even said before that this is his last hitter.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Boone is keeping him out there. They have Weaver ready
- 45:29Speaker 2: to go, right, which makes total sense because I guarantee
- 45:32Speaker 2: you that's the way they've done it all year. Right, Yep.
- 45:34Speaker 2: The biggest key to that whole inning was you watched
- 45:37Speaker 2: to Don Rafaela, who swings at everything. Okay, he's really
- 45:41Speaker 2: arguab walk and in this situation was a great at bat.
- 45:43Speaker 2: I give him a ton of credit. But then it
- 45:45Speaker 2: just it was like things come. It was one of
- 45:47Speaker 2: those innings. But they only gave up two Let's not
- 45:49Speaker 2: forget they only gave up two runs. It onen't like
- 45:51Speaker 2: they gave up ten runs. They gave up two runs. Okay,
- 45:54Speaker 2: but so guard getting a hit, taking advantage of Judge's arm,
- 45:57Speaker 2: your set of getting the hit, and then they shut
- 45:59Speaker 2: it down. So I really don't have a problem as
- 46:02Speaker 2: big of a problem as all the other people do
- 46:04Speaker 2: with him taking Freed out, because I guarantee you that's
- 46:06Speaker 2: what they had done all year. And listen, Max Freed
- 46:09Speaker 2: six and a third, no runs. That's a hell of
- 46:12Speaker 2: an outing in the postseason, like he's beginner, Like, great job,
- 46:16Speaker 2: it's not his he did and I guarantee right, So anyways,
- 46:20Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe I look at it differently.
- 46:22Speaker 4: No, but don't you think Max Reed could have got
- 46:24Speaker 4: those last two outs the eight to nine hitter.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Don't you think.
- 46:30Speaker 2: They're both writings? And what if he doesn't And then
- 46:32Speaker 2: you're like, God, you should have you should have taken
- 46:34Speaker 2: him out.
- 46:35Speaker 4: It's a plan, it's a script. It's predetermined. They talk
- 46:39Speaker 4: about this stuff during the games, that that was a
- 46:41Speaker 4: clean inning for Luke Weaver to come in with one out.
- 46:45Speaker 4: You can't get us two outs. Luke Weaver has not
- 46:47Speaker 4: been great, he won't be back next year. It's it's
- 46:50Speaker 4: a tough spot. I feel like a lot of people
- 46:53Speaker 4: were saying too, and I agree. They manage this game
- 46:56Speaker 4: like it was a regular season game. There is no tomorrow.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Max Reed might not get another start. Push him, there
- 47:03Speaker 4: is no tomorrow. You don't go to one of your
- 47:06Speaker 4: average relievers who you know it's not twenty twenty four anymore.
- 47:10Speaker 4: When he turned into your closer after the guy that
- 47:12Speaker 4: you told us was your closer, Klay Holmes couldn't get
- 47:14Speaker 4: it done and you had to break glass in case
- 47:16Speaker 4: of an emergency and go to Louke Weaver as the closer.
- 47:19Speaker 4: We haven't seen the ferocious jungle cat that we saw
- 47:22Speaker 4: last year, so I don't know. Those things get compounded,
- 47:25Speaker 4: but I think you stop right here. They did not
- 47:28Speaker 4: hit with that lineup they put out. They took out
- 47:31Speaker 4: Ben Rice, they took out Jazz Chisholm. Those are two
- 47:34Speaker 4: guys that had great years, twenty six home runs, thirty
- 47:37Speaker 4: one home runs. You left a bunch of RBI on
- 47:39Speaker 4: the bench. That lineup did not work, and then later
- 47:42Speaker 4: in the game you can't get Ben Rice in a
- 47:44Speaker 4: bat and you put Jazz Chishlm in the game as
- 47:46Speaker 4: a defensive replacement, And Alex Coor is over there grinning
- 47:49Speaker 4: because he's like, Okay, you get a med Rosario three
- 47:52Speaker 4: abs and you put Jazz in as a defensive replacement.
- 47:55Speaker 4: I'm going from Crochet to Chapman. You're still facing two
- 47:59Speaker 4: dominant lets, and when Jazz comes up and flies out
- 48:02Speaker 4: weekly to right field, It's like, what are we doing here?
- 48:05Speaker 4: You should have the righty to come off the bench.
- 48:07Speaker 4: You know you could have configured that differently. What I'll
- 48:09Speaker 4: say before I pass it back to you is I
- 48:11Speaker 4: feel like Jazz should have been in at second base.
- 48:14Speaker 4: If you wanted to play a med Rosario, who you
- 48:16Speaker 4: barely played since you got him at the trade deadline,
- 48:18Speaker 4: play him at third Ryan McMahon. We would have made
- 48:20Speaker 4: no issues, no qualms about Ryan McMahon. We understand what
- 48:23Speaker 4: his bat is and isn't put him there. And then
- 48:26Speaker 4: also you have Kybyiro to be a pinch runner at
- 48:29Speaker 4: any point late in the game. Kybyiro is the guy
- 48:31Speaker 4: that can play six different positions.
- 48:33Speaker 1: So yeah, it's tough.
- 48:35Speaker 4: I just want to flush this game and get the
- 48:37Speaker 4: game too as quick as possible.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Okay, well, let's look at game two. Is there a
- 48:43Speaker 3: chance that the Yankees, if things go off the rails
- 48:48Speaker 3: early to nothing lead by the Red Sox, they panic
- 48:53Speaker 3: by day? I mean Boone panics and takes Rodon out
- 48:58Speaker 3: because in a playoff game, when it's back against the wall,
- 49:01Speaker 3: life on the line, you go right to the bullpen.
- 49:04Speaker 3: The bullpen hasn't shown they can get you nine outs,
- 49:07Speaker 3: let alone fifteen outs.
- 49:11Speaker 4: No, you're riding with Carlos Rodin tonight. There is no panic.
- 49:15Speaker 4: Even if he does give up a long ball, which
- 49:17Speaker 4: we've seen him do. It's his game tonight, and he's
- 49:20Speaker 4: got that bulldog in him a little more so than
- 49:22Speaker 4: Max Freed. Max Freed is, you know, soft spoken. It's
- 49:26Speaker 4: his first year in New York. He's been great, but
- 49:29Speaker 4: like he should have pushed back a little bit against Boom.
- 49:31Speaker 4: But I guess they had already agreed in the dugout
- 49:33Speaker 4: go get me one more batter. Rodin tonight is not
- 49:35Speaker 4: gonna come off that mound if it's to nothing. He's
- 49:38Speaker 4: gonna say, let me fight, let me continue. And they
- 49:40Speaker 4: use the bullpen last night. I think the only guy
- 49:43Speaker 4: they'll stay away from tonight is Luke Weaver. I don't
- 49:45Speaker 4: think you're in a rush to get to Fernando Cruz.
- 49:48Speaker 4: I don't think you're in a rush to get to
- 49:50Speaker 4: any of these guys. Tonight it's Carlos Rodan for six
- 49:53Speaker 4: seven innings, six to seven.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Okay, we can debate pitching all we want. The Yankees
- 49:58Speaker 2: score how many runs last night?
- 50:01Speaker 4: One? That's what I'm saying. Take all of this out,
- 50:04Speaker 4: that lineup that you put together with your analytics, and
- 50:07Speaker 4: you thought you were gonna throw at Alex Corr and
- 50:09Speaker 4: Garrett Crochet, the least likely of candidates, the guy that
- 50:13Speaker 4: was the whipping boy all year. Fans didn't want him
- 50:15Speaker 4: to start. They wanted Caybalierro to start at shortstop. Anthony Volpi, Right,
- 50:19Speaker 4: Anthony Volpi's the one that gets two hits off Crochet,
- 50:23Speaker 4: that hits the solo shot to wake the stadium up
- 50:25Speaker 4: and really get it going. The rest of those guys, Stanton,
- 50:28Speaker 4: we expect Stanton to be a postseason performer. I expect
- 50:30Speaker 4: him to show up tonight. Grisham, as we're talking about
- 50:33Speaker 4: how many home runs they left off the field with
- 50:36Speaker 4: Jazz and ben Rice, Grisham hit thirty four homers this year,
- 50:39Speaker 4: he went zero for four with four strikeouts. Tonight they
- 50:43Speaker 4: have to mash. Can they score four runs, five runs
- 50:46Speaker 4: and hold the Red Sox to another three? I think
- 50:48Speaker 4: they can.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Okay, that's all I want to know. What was the
- 50:52Speaker 2: feeling like when Ed bases loaded, no outs and here
- 50:55Speaker 2: comes John Carlow against Chapman and all of a sudden
- 50:58Speaker 2: it goes from ninety five to one hundred and one.
- 51:00Speaker 2: What was the feeling like? Were you thinking, this is
- 51:02Speaker 2: our chance, We're gonna turn it around right here and
- 51:04Speaker 2: then strikeout week pop up punchy.
- 51:08Speaker 4: I thought we had a better chance when we had
- 51:11Speaker 4: Goldie on Judge on in the first inning against Crochet
- 51:14Speaker 4: and Stanton didn't ground it into a double play late
- 51:18Speaker 4: in that game with Chapman former teammates, he's faced them before.
- 51:22Speaker 4: I'm like, Chapman knows what to throw? Was a four
- 51:25Speaker 4: pitch at bat. I knew that Chapman had Stanton, and
- 51:28Speaker 4: so did Cora. Corus said, you know, he had no
- 51:30Speaker 4: doubts that Chapman would win that matchup against John Carlos Stanton,
- 51:34Speaker 4: So yeah, I was. I knew they were setting us
- 51:37Speaker 4: up for failure. I knew that we were getting excited there,
- 51:40Speaker 4: and yeah, it's a different game if David Bednar doesn't
- 51:43Speaker 4: give up that one run. It's a different game if
- 51:45Speaker 4: you're just trying to tie a two to one game
- 51:48Speaker 4: down one. But you know ultimately that they got got
- 51:52Speaker 4: they got caught, like Jazz shouldn't have been in that position.
- 51:55Speaker 4: And Stanton didn't have his best night and he's facing
- 51:58Speaker 4: a guy that knew what to throw at him to
- 51:59Speaker 4: put him way.
- 52:01Speaker 3: This you have to you have to give us the
- 52:03Speaker 3: pulse of Yankees fans on this one. Aaron Judge two
- 52:07Speaker 3: hits last night. Is he back? Is he postseason Aaron
- 52:10Speaker 3: Judge now? Or is this not good? Because he's the MVP.
- 52:15Speaker 4: And you know, I was laughing because I was getting
- 52:16Speaker 4: some some tweets about Judge should have hit the ball
- 52:19Speaker 4: out of the park in the ninth inning instead of
- 52:21Speaker 4: driving a single, And I'm like, this is the batting champion.
- 52:23Speaker 4: This is a guy that hit three p thirty one.
- 52:25Speaker 4: He did his job, Like if he struck out all night,
- 52:29Speaker 4: it'd be different. He did get a hit like Crochet
- 52:32Speaker 4: is a monster, and Judge gave him that cauc He
- 52:34Speaker 4: said he's the best pitcher in the game. He has
- 52:36Speaker 4: struck Judge out I don't know, eleven twelve times this year.
- 52:39Speaker 4: I will say this about Judge. Judge did have a
- 52:42Speaker 4: look and he was on some of Crochet's pitches that
- 52:44Speaker 4: that last inning where I think, you know, Cabby got
- 52:49Speaker 4: a hold of one, it got caught in the outfield,
- 52:50Speaker 4: Goldie got a hold of one, it got caught in
- 52:52Speaker 4: the outfield. We were all sure this was the time,
- 52:55Speaker 4: right this, this last matchup between Judge and Crochet, Judge
- 53:01Speaker 4: is going to win. He fouled a couple off ultimately
- 53:03Speaker 4: strikes out. But yeah, I don't think anybody is talking
- 53:06Speaker 4: about Aaron Judge folding or being you know, not himself
- 53:11Speaker 4: in the postseason. I don't think anyone's saying he's back either.
- 53:13Speaker 4: Let's see him hit a homer tonight. Let's see him
- 53:15Speaker 4: hit a double tonight. Let's see him continue in Game
- 53:17Speaker 4: two and literally saved the season.
- 53:20Speaker 2: The only thing I'll say before we let you go
- 53:22Speaker 2: is you're wrong calra is the MVP. But other than that,
- 53:24Speaker 2: you have great takes and I love some of the
- 53:25Speaker 2: things you say.
- 53:26Speaker 4: I'll take Ben Rice at catcher over cal Raley. We
- 53:29Speaker 4: don't do that you just lost doing that over here, Judge,
- 53:39Speaker 4: did he hit did he hit sixty two?
- 53:41Speaker 2: Ben Rice?
- 53:43Speaker 4: Did he break? Did he break the American League home
- 53:45Speaker 4: run record? That's the only way I was gonna give
- 53:47Speaker 4: it to cal Raley. He didn't hit sixty two.
- 53:49Speaker 2: It's Judge, most switch. He broke Mickey Mantles old record,
- 53:53Speaker 2: broke Catcher record, He broke all the records.
- 53:56Speaker 4: Great stack up all of the other categories.
- 54:00Speaker 2: By the way, you know you just said Ben Rice
- 54:02Speaker 2: or a Platinum Glove, Platinum Glove winner at Catcher, You
- 54:06Speaker 2: just said Ben Rice.
- 54:07Speaker 4: I just want to make sure we're Yankee homers. We
- 54:09Speaker 4: ride with the pin stripes. Yeah, give me Benaunning.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Wow.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I guarantee cal Rawly's facing Garret Crochet.
- 54:18Speaker 3: You are right, Hey, Keith, you're your self real quick. Sorry,
- 54:22Speaker 3: you're a self proclaimed leader of the fans out there.
- 54:25Speaker 3: What do the fans need to do tonight? What do
- 54:27Speaker 3: Yankee fans need to do tonight for their team to
- 54:31Speaker 3: be pushed? Because we talk about home field advantage all
- 54:33Speaker 3: the time, get them? What do they need to do?
- 54:37Speaker 4: I mean, and I definitely don't proclaim myself. I'm blessed
- 54:39Speaker 4: like I've been out there before I was in the media,
- 54:41Speaker 4: So I think there's a lot of people that have
- 54:43Speaker 4: seen me go to the stadium for the last ten
- 54:45Speaker 4: years and then become a radio host, become a content creator.
- 54:49Speaker 4: So like I do lead, but I don't say that
- 54:51Speaker 4: I'm the leader. Like you know, there there are other
- 54:53Speaker 4: people out there. But I'll say this, it is hard
- 54:56Speaker 4: to get that stadium up and rocking and going when
- 54:59Speaker 4: they're they're not hitting. When seventeen batters in a row
- 55:02Speaker 4: get retired, when you give Crochet a six pitch inning,
- 55:04Speaker 4: it's like you get up and there's nothing to get
- 55:08Speaker 4: up for. So tonight the Yankees got a hit. And
- 55:11Speaker 4: I'm telling you, with all those different sound effects and
- 55:14Speaker 4: lights and things that the Yankees put on in the stadium,
- 55:17Speaker 4: the main thing that will get the real Yankee fans
- 55:20Speaker 4: excited and rowdy and loud and rocking that place is
- 55:23Speaker 4: them stringing together hits, hitting the ball out of the ballpark,
- 55:26Speaker 4: putting some runs on the board. We need offense. That
- 55:29Speaker 4: is what makes people excited. That's what makes people loud
- 55:32Speaker 4: and happy in there. So they got to score.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Keith enjoy it or stay nervous through it. But thanks man,
- 55:39Speaker 1: you're the best. We appreciate you.
- 55:40Speaker 4: Thanks, guys, appreciate you best in the business. Love the show.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Thanks guys, the same to you, dude, love lesson n
- 55:46Speaker 1: A Keith McPherson in New York on WFA, and you
- 55:48Speaker 1: should do the same. We'll go right to kratsats here.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Tina's definitely closing it out. You said we're not gonna
- 56:04Speaker 3: have all game three as well, here's one Yoshinobu.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Dodgers to close it out. Okay, a couple
- 56:13Speaker 1: other quick hitter notes. Let's see if I can do
- 56:14Speaker 1: it in thirty seconds. Brian wu will bullpen session Thursday.
- 56:17Speaker 1: Maybe he'd be a Game three started for them. It
- 56:19Speaker 1: sounds like Bruce Boci not going to manage the Giants,
- 56:22Speaker 1: but he's invited to be a part of the mix
- 56:23Speaker 1: if he wants. And the Pirates took the only part
- 56:26Speaker 1: of their team that worked the pitching and said, let's
- 56:29Speaker 1: fire the pitching coach and also branch dramas out Marine
- 56:32Speaker 1: Oscar Marine Marin. However you say it out so that
- 56:36Speaker 1: makes sense for math right, No, but just wanted to
- 56:41Speaker 1: get that in there. BETMGM players, you can get yourself
