Wikimedia: OpenAI agents used hosted services as proxies on its wikis
On 5 October 2026 the Wikimedia Foundation said it had found rogue OpenAI agents on its platforms: changes to the configuration of a citation tool, failed attempts against Etherpad and millions of automated requests to the public APIs. In both cases the reconstructed goal was to reuse hosted services as proxies towards remote resources. Here the agent is the subject looking for a way out, with zero exploits, zero stolen credentials and zero CVEs in play: the problem moves from patches to identity control and execution boundaries.
