- 0:00When Solomon finished praying, fire descended from heaven
- 0:04and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory
- 0:08of Hashem filled the house. The Kohanim could not enter
- 0:12the house of Hashem, the Temple, for the glory of God
- 0:16filled the house of God,
- 0:19filled the Temple. What would it have been
- 0:23like to be there, to see that?
- 0:26To experience that. One day, beloved,
- 0:30we will know this. We will see it and we will experience
- 0:34it— the glory of God. The temple
- 0:38was built as a shadow and as a copy of
- 0:42the real temple that is right now in heaven.
- 0:47And one day, beloved, we will experience
- 0:51that glory. We will see the cherubim the seraphim,
- 0:55the Ark. We will see Jesus face
- 0:58to face as a bride, and the veil
- 1:02is lifted off. Listen in as we
- 1:07unpack this today. Welcome to the One Year Audio Bible
- 1:10Podcast. Today is July 22nd. Now let's continue
- 1:15our journey reading through the entire Bible in one year.
- 1:18This week we are reading from the Israel Bible for the Tanakh, or the Old
- 1:22Testament, and from the King James for the
- 1:25Apostolic Writings, or the New Testament.
- 1:30Numbers 27:1-23.
- 1:36The daughters of Zelophehad of the Manassite family,
- 1:39son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh,
- 1:43son of Joseph, came forward. The names of the
- 1:47daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Haglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
- 1:52They stood before Moses, Eleazar the Kohen,
- 1:56the chieftains, and the whole assembly at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting,
- 1:59and they said, Our father died in the wilderness. He was
- 2:03not one of the faction— Korah's faction— which banded
- 2:08together against Hashem, but died for his own sin, and he has left
- 2:12no sons.
- 2:15Let not our father's name be lost to his clan just because
- 2:19he had no son. Give us a holding among our father's kinsmen.
- 2:24Moses brought their case before Hashem, and Hashem said
- 2:28to Moses, The plea of Zelophehad's daughters is
- 2:32just. You should give them a hereditary holding among
- 2:35their father's kinsmen. Transfer their father's share
- 2:39to them. Further, speak to Bnei Israel as follows:
- 2:44If a man dies without leaving a son, you shall transfer his
- 2:48property to his daughter. If he has no daughter,
- 2:52you shall assign his property to his brothers. If he
- 2:56has no brothers, you shall assign his property to his father's brothers.
- 3:02If his father had no brothers, you shall assign his property to
- 3:05the nearest relative in his own clan, and he shall inherit it.
- 3:10This shall be for the law of procedure for the Israelites,
- 3:13in accordance with Hashem's command to Moses.
- 3:16Hashem said to Moses, Ascend these heights of Abiram
- 3:21and view the land that I have given to Bnei Israel.
- 3:27When you have seen it, you too shall be gathered to your kin, just as
- 3:31your brother Aaron was. For in the wilderness of Zin,
- 3:35when the community was contentious, you disobeyed
- 3:39my command to uphold my sanctity in their sight by
- 3:43means of the water. Those are the waters of Meribah
- 3:47Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin.
- 3:51Moses spoke to Hashem, saying, Let Hashem,
- 3:55Source of the Breath of All Flesh,
- 3:58appoint someone over the community who shall
- 4:02go out before them and come in before them and who shall take them out
- 4:05and bring them in so that Hashem's community may not be like
- 4:09sheep that have no shepherd. And Hashem answered
- 4:13Moses, Single out Joshua son of
- 4:16Nun, an inspired man, and lay your hand upon him.
- 4:20Have him stand before Eleazar the Kohen and before the whole
- 4:24community and commission him in their
- 4:28sight. Invest him with some of your authority so
- 4:31that the whole Israelite community may obey.
- 4:36But he shall present himself to Eleazar the Kohen, who shall on
- 4:39his behalf seek the decision of the Urim before
- 4:43Hashem. By such instruction they shall go
- 4:46out, and by such instruction they shall come in,
- 4:51he and all the Israelites, the whole community.
- 4:54Moses did as Hashem commanded him. He took Joshua
- 4:58and had him stand before Eleazar the Kohen and
- 5:02before the whole community. He laid his hands upon
- 5:06him and commissioned him, as Hashem had spoken through
- 5:10Moses.
- 5:172 Chronicles 6:12-8:10.
- 5:22Then standing before the altar of Hashem in front of the whole congregation
- 5:26of Israel, he spread forth his hands. Solomon had made
- 5:30a bronze platform and placed it in the midst of the great court.
- 5:34It was 5 emote long and 5 emote wide and 3 emote
- 5:38high. He stood on it. Then,
- 5:41kneeling in front of the whole congregation of Israel, he spread forth his
- 5:45hands to heaven and said, O God of Israel,
- 5:48there is no God like You in the heavens and on the earth,
- 5:52You who steadfastly maintain the covenant with Your servants who
- 5:55walk before You with all their hearts, You who have
- 5:59kept the promises You made to Your servant,
- 6:02my father David. You made a promise and have fulfilled
- 6:06it, as is now the case. And now,
- 6:09O God of Israel, keep that promise that You made to Your servant,
- 6:13my father David. You shall never lack a
- 6:16descendant in my sight sitting on the throne of Israel,
- 6:20if only Your children will look to their way and walk
- 6:24in the path of My teachings, as you have walked before
- 6:28Me. Now therefore, O God of Israel, Let the
- 6:32promise that You made to Your servant, my father David, be confirmed.
- 6:37Does Hashem really dwell with man on earth?
- 6:41Even the heavens to their uttermost reaches cannot contain You,
- 6:46how much less this house that I have built.
- 6:50Yet turn, Hashem my God, to the prayer and supplication
- 6:54of Your servant, and hear the cry and the prayer that
- 6:59that Your servant offers to You. May Your eyes be open
- 7:02day and night toward this house,
- 7:05toward the place where You have resolved to make Your name abide.
- 7:09May You heed the prayers that Your servant offers toward this place,
- 7:14and when You hear the supplications that Your servant and Your people
- 7:18Israel offer toward this place, give heed
- 7:22in Your heavenly abode. Give heed and pardon.
- 7:27If a man commits an offense against his fellow and an oath
- 7:31is exacted from him, causing him to utter an imprecation against
- 7:35himself, and he comes with this imprecation before Your altar in
- 7:39this house, may You hear in heaven and
- 7:43take action to judge Your servants, requiting him who
- 7:47is in the wrong by bringing down the punishment of his conduct
- 7:51on his head, vindicating him who is in the right by rewarding
- 7:55him according to his righteousness. Should Your people Israel
- 8:00be defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against
- 8:04You, and then once again acknowledge Your name and offer prayer and supplication
- 8:08to You in this house, may You hear in
- 8:12heaven and pardon the sin of Your people Israel and
- 8:15restore them to the land that You gave to them and to
- 8:19their fathers. Should the heavens be shut up and there be no
- 8:23rain because they have sinned against You,
- 8:26and then they pray toward this place and acknowledge Your name and repent
- 8:31of their sins because You humbled them, may You hear in
- 8:34heaven and pardon the sin of Your servants,
- 8:38Your people Israel, when You have shown them the proper
- 8:42way in which they are to walk. And send down rain upon
- 8:46the land that you gave to your people as
- 8:49their inheritance. So too,
- 8:52if there is a famine in the land, if there is pestilence,
- 8:56blight, mildew, locusts, or caterpillars,
- 8:59or if an enemy oppresses them in any of the settlements of
- 9:03their land, in any plague and in any disease, any prayer
- 9:07or supplication offered by any person among all your people Israel,
- 9:11each of whom knows his affliction and his pain,
- 9:15when he spreads forth his hands toward this house,
- 9:19may you hear in your heavenly abode and pardon,
- 9:23deal with each man according to his ways as you know
- 9:26his heart to be, for you alone know the hearts of
- 9:31all men, so that they may revere you
- 9:34all the days that they live on the land that you gave to
- 9:38our fathers. Or if a foreigner who is not
- 9:42of your people Israel comes from a distant land for the sake of Your
- 9:46great Name, Your mighty hand, and Your outstretched arm,
- 9:50if he comes to pray toward this house, may You hear in
- 9:54Your heavenly abode and grant whatever the foreigner appeals to You for.
- 9:59Thus, all the peoples of the earth will know Your Name
- 10:02and revere You, as does Your people Israel, and they
- 10:06will recognize that Your Name is attached to this house that I
- 10:11have built. When Your people take the field against their
- 10:14enemies in a campaign on which You send them, and they pray
- 10:18to You in the direction of the city which You have chosen and the house
- 10:22which I have built to Your name, may You hear in heaven
- 10:25their prayer and supplication and uphold their cause.
- 10:29When they sin against You, for there is no person who does
- 10:33not sin, and You are angry with them and deliver
- 10:37them to the enemy and their captors carry them off to an enemy land,
- 10:41near or far, and they take it to heart in the land to
- 10:45which they have been carried off and repent and make supplication
- 10:49to You in the land of their captivity, saying, we have sinned,
- 10:53we have acted perversely, and we have acted wickedly.
- 10:57And they turn back to You with all their heart and soul in
- 11:01the land of their captivity where they were carried off and
- 11:05pray in the direction of their land which You gave to their fathers and
- 11:09the city which You have chosen and toward the house which I have built for
- 11:12name. May You hear their prayer and supplication
- 11:17in Your heavenly abode, uphold their cause, and pardon Your
- 11:21people who have sinned against You. Now, my Hashem,
- 11:26may Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive
- 11:30to prayer from this place. And now advance,
- 11:34O Hashem, to Your resting place, You and Your mighty Aaron,
- 11:39Your Kohanim, O Hashem, are clothed in triumph.
- 11:43Your loyal ones will rejoice in Your goodness.
- 11:46O Hashem, do not reject Your Anointed One.
- 11:50Remember the loyalty of Your servant David.
- 11:55When Solomon finished praying, fire descended
- 11:59from heaven and consumed the burnt offering
- 12:03and the sacrifices. And the Glory of Hashem filled the
- 12:07House. The Kohanim could not enter the House of Hashem,
- 12:12for the Glory of Hashem filled the House of
- 12:16Hashem. All the Israelites witnessed the
- 12:20descent of the fire and the Glory of Hashem on the House. They knelt
- 12:25with their faces to the ground and prostrated themselves praising Hashem,
- 12:30for He is good. For His steadfast love is eternal.
- 12:35Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before Hashem.
- 12:40King Solomon offered as sacrifices 22,000
- 12:44oxen and 120,000 sheep.
- 12:47Thus the king and all the people dedicated the House of Hashem.
- 12:51The Kohanim stood at their watches, the Levi'im
- 12:55with the instruments for Hashem's music, that King David had
- 12:59made to praise Hashem, for His steadfast love is eternal,
- 13:03by means of the Psalms of David that they knew.
- 13:07The Kohanim opposite them blew trumpets while all Israel
- 13:11were standing. Solomon consecrated the center of the
- 13:15court in front of the House of Hashem, because he presented there the
- 13:19burnt offerings and the fat parts of the offerings of well-being.
- 13:23Since the bronze altar that Solomon had made was
- 13:27not able to hold the burnt offerings, the male offerings,
- 13:31and the fat parts. At that time Solomon kept
- 13:35the feast for 7 days, all Israel with
- 13:38him, a great assembly from Lebo-hamath to the Wadi of Egypt.
- 13:43On the 8th day they held a solemn gathering. They observed the dedication
- 13:47of the altar 7 days and the feast, 7 days.
- 13:57On the 23rd day of the 7th month, he dismissed
- 14:01the people to their homes, rejoicing and in good spirits
- 14:04over the goodness that Hashem had shown to David and Solomon and his
- 14:09people Israel.
- 14:21Romans 7:14-8:8.
- 14:34For we know that the law is spiritual, but I, Paul, am carnal,
- 14:38sold under sin. For that which I do I
- 14:41allow not. For what I would, that I do not;
- 14:45but what I hate, that I do. If then
- 14:50I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law,
- 14:53that it is good. Now then it is no more I
- 14:57that do it, but sin that dwells in me.
- 15:01For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh,
- 15:04dwells no good thing: for to will is present with
- 15:09me, But how to perform that which is good I find not.
- 15:14For the good which that I would do, I do not do, but the
- 15:18evil which I would not, that I do.
- 15:22Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I
- 15:26that do it, but sin that dwells in me.
- 15:30I find then a law, that when I would do good,
- 15:34evil is present with me. For I delight
- 15:38in the law of God after the inward man,
- 15:41but I see another law in my members warring against
- 15:45the law of my mind and bringing me into captivity to the law
- 15:48of sin which is in my members.
- 15:52O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the
- 15:56body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- 16:00So then With the mind I myself serve the law of
- 16:04God, but with the flesh the law of
- 16:07sin. There is therefore now no condemnation
- 16:12to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the
- 16:16flesh, but after the Spirit.
- 16:20For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ has
- 16:23made me free from the law of sin.
- 16:27And death. For what the Law could not do,
- 16:31in that it was weak through the flesh,
- 16:34God sending His own Son in the likeness of
- 16:38sinful flesh, and for sin condemned
- 16:42sin in the flesh, that the righteousness of the Law
- 16:45might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh
- 16:49but after the Spirit. For they that are after the
- 16:53flesh do mind the things of the flesh,
- 16:57but they that are after the Spirit the things of the
- 17:01Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death,
- 17:06but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
- 17:10Because the carnal mind is enmity against God,
- 17:14for it is not subject to the law of God,
- 17:17neither indeed can be. So then they that are in
- 17:21the flesh cannot please God.
- 17:28Psalm 18:1-15.
- 17:31I will love You, O Lord, my Strength. The Lord is my Rock and
- 17:35my Fortress and my Deliverer, my God,
- 17:39my Strength in whom I will trust, my Buckler and the Horn
- 17:43of my Salvation and my High Tower. I will call upon
- 17:47the Lord who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be
- 17:51saved from my enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me,
- 17:55and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows
- 17:59of hell compassed me about, the snares of death prevented me.
- 18:03In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God.
- 18:08He heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry
- 18:11came before him even into his ears.
- 18:15Then the earth shook, and trembled; the foundations
- 18:18also of the hills moved and were shaken because He
- 18:22was wroth. There went up a smoke out of His nostrils
- 18:26and fire out of His mouth devoured; coals were
- 18:30kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down and
- 18:35darkness was under His feet. And He rode upon a cherub
- 18:39and did fly, yes, He did fly under the wings of the
- 18:42wind. He made darkness his secret place,
- 18:46his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds
- 18:50of the skies. At the brightness that was before him
- 18:53his thick clouds passed, hailstones and coals
- 18:57of fire. The Lord also thundered in the heavens,
- 19:01and the Highest gave his voice,
- 19:04hailstones and coals of fire. Yes,
- 19:07he sent out his arrows and scattered them. And He shot
- 19:11out lightnings and discomfited them. Then the
- 19:15channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the
- 19:18world were discovered at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the
- 19:22blast of the breath of Your nostrils.
- 19:28Proverbs 19:24-25.
- 19:32A slothful man hides his hand in his bosom,
- 19:36and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
- 19:39Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware, and reprove
- 19:43one that has understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
- 19:49I want to speak to you today from our reading from 2 Chronicles 6
- 19:53through 8, and we've just completed the previous
- 19:57chapters where there's a detailed description of everything
- 20:02about the temple and the dimensions, the width, the height,
- 20:08the outer courtyard, the Holy Place, the Most Holy Place,
- 20:13all of the items that go inside, the Ark of the
- 20:17Covenant in the Most Holy Place. And as we read
- 20:21all of that, I want to remind you that it is
- 20:25a copy of a real temple in
- 20:29heaven. That when the design for the
- 20:33wilderness tabernacle was given to Moses and they
- 20:37built the wilderness tabernacle, which was basically a tent,
- 20:41it was a copy of the real temple in heaven.
- 20:45And the plans, the design for this temple that
- 20:50David received from God and then Solomon,
- 20:53his son, built and constructed— again, it's a shadow.
- 20:57It's a copy of the real Temple in heaven.
- 21:03Now I want to go back to chapter 5,
- 21:07verses 13 and 14,
- 21:11where it is written, the trumpeters and the singers joined in unison to praise and
- 21:14extol Hashem. And as the sound of the trumpets and cymbals
- 21:18and other musical instruments and the praise of Hashem,
- 21:22for He is good, for His steadfast love is eternal,
- 21:26grew louder, the house, the house of Hashem,
- 21:30the temple was filled with a cloud.
- 21:34The Kohanim could not stand to perform the service because of
- 21:38the cloud where the glory of Hashem filled
- 21:44the house of Hashem.
- 21:48And so the presence, the power, and the glory of the Lord
- 21:52God Almighty displaying as a cloud,
- 21:57they lost all their strength in their legs and they could not stand in the
- 22:01presence of God. Now we go to
- 22:05the end of Solomon's prayer of dedication,
- 22:09and he prays a very long detailed prayer about
- 22:13the temple and asking that God would hear the prayers of the people
- 22:17of Israel, whether they're there in the land or even if they're
- 22:21far away, if they've been exiled to another nation, that whenever they would cry
- 22:25out and petition the Lord and face towards the temple in Jerusalem,
- 22:29he pleaded that God would hear the prayers and answer.
- 22:33And in chapter 7, verses 1 and 2, it is written,
- 22:37when Solomon finished praying, fire descended from
- 22:41heaven and consumed the burnt offering
- 22:45and the sacrifices, and the glory of Hashem filled
- 22:50the house. The Kohanim could not enter the house
- 22:53of Hashem, for the glory of Hashem filled
- 22:57the house of Hashem.
- 23:03And all the Israelites witnessed the descent of the fire and the
- 23:06glory of Hashem on the house. They knelt with their
- 23:10faces to the ground and prostrated themselves, praising Hashem
- 23:14For He is good; His steadfast love
- 23:18is eternal.
- 23:23What would it have been like to have been there on that
- 23:27day, to experience that, to see that,
- 23:30to see the glory cloud descend from heaven, to see the fire
- 23:34come down and consume the sacrifice on the altar and the
- 23:38glory fill up the temple?
- 23:43Sadly, the temple was destroyed not
- 23:47once but twice. Once in
- 23:50586 BC under Nebuchadnezzar's invading army,
- 23:54and again in 70 AD under the Roman general
- 23:58Titus of the Romans as they destroyed the temple.
- 24:04But yet there is hope.
- 24:07There is a sense of this
- 24:11glory that we can know.
- 24:15And in Colossians,
- 24:18it is written, the mystery— Colossians
- 24:22chapter 1, verse 26— the mystery which has been
- 24:26hidden from ages and from generations,
- 24:29but now has been revealed To
- 24:33His saints. To them God willed to make known
- 24:36what are the riches of the glory of this mystery
- 24:40among the Gentiles. What is this mystery?
- 24:45Which is Christ in you, the hope
- 24:49of glory. Our body is
- 24:53like a temple. It's a container. It's a
- 24:56shell. And when we are born again, when we
- 25:01repent of our sins and we ask Christ to come in and to be the
- 25:05Lord of our life, His life is
- 25:08inside of us. His Holy Spirit dwells within us.
- 25:11And Christ Jesus, He is the
- 25:15hope of glory. And if we
- 25:19are walking in step with Him and we have not grieved Him,
- 25:23if we are not allowing the flesh and the lust
- 25:27and the sin to rule and reign over us, but instead if we have died
- 25:32to our flesh and we have repented of our sin and we're letting
- 25:35His Holy Spirit be the leader and be in charge and
- 25:40we're not grieving the Holy Spirit, then the glory of
- 25:43Christ dwells within us.
- 25:48Even Moses had some of this glory when
- 25:52he would meet with God at the tent of meeting.
- 25:55And Moses was called a friend of God.
- 25:59He was very, very close to the Lord, and the Lord conversed
- 26:03with him and spoke with him. And after spending time with
- 26:06the Lord, his face would glow and radiate,
- 26:10and the people were afraid. They were afraid of having that kind of
- 26:14intimacy with the Lord. So Moses covered his face with
- 26:19a veil, but we can see Christ
- 26:23by the Spirit in faith. We can behold Him without
- 26:27that veil covering our mind and our heart.
- 26:32We can come before Him unashamed, totally transparent,
- 26:37totally vulnerable, totally real with Him.
- 26:41He knows us intimately. He's thoroughly acquainted with our ways.
- 26:46And He loves us. And that is what they were saying when the glory
- 26:50cloud came down into the temple— the everlasting
- 26:54love of the Lord.
- 26:59So Father, we thank You.
- 27:02We thank You for Your Son Jesus. We thank You
- 27:06that He can abide and dwell within us.
- 27:11And Father, I pray that the glory of Christ would shine in
- 27:16our hearts, that the love of Christ would abound
- 27:20and abound yet still more and overflow,
- 27:24that we could walk in the love of Christ towards all others
- 27:28around us, that we can shine His love
- 27:32in tangible, practical ways to the people in our lives.
- 27:36We thank you for the hope of glory that there's a day coming,
