- 1:47Speaker 1: not one of those getting rich off of YouTube. Actually
- 1:51Speaker 1: not really get nothing, not right now. But they they
- 1:57Speaker 1: tend to like change the rules now and again. And
- 2:01Speaker 1: I don't think the rules are unfair, right, but now
- 2:04Speaker 1: they want you to have people to hit that like
- 2:08Speaker 1: button and hype the video. So even if you sting

- 2:31Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, or become a member and if
- 2:33Speaker 1: you would like to know what that's all about. The
- 2:36Speaker 1: link is in the description of each episode, including this one. Now,
- 2:45Speaker 1: the weekly podcast is typically three stories, right, three top stories,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and I give my opinion on those stories. Typically I'll
- 2:56Speaker 1: do I'll save like an album review for the end.
- 3:00Speaker 1: But there's certain albums by certain people with a certain
- 3:06Speaker 1: connection to the culture that's so strong that I say
- 3:10Speaker 1: this deserves an episode by itself.
- 3:13Speaker 2: J Cole just dropped what he has called a.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Hinted at and maybe not even hinted, his final album,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and it's entitled The fall Off. You might have heard
- 3:26Speaker 1: about this album dropping about two years ago. But then
- 3:29Speaker 1: some things happened. Okay, you know the rollout was disrupted,
- 3:34Speaker 1: remember that the mixtape pretty Dope mixtape might delete later,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and then he had to delete a certain song off
- 3:43Speaker 1: of there, like what was it seven minute Freestyle or whatever,
- 3:46Speaker 1: which was a response to Kendrick Lamar, a dis record
- 3:50Speaker 1: basically a response to Kendrick Lamar's verse off of the
- 3:56Speaker 1: we still we don't wait wait a minute, we don't
- 3:59Speaker 1: trust you, because I like, we still don't trust you.
- 4:02Speaker 2: As far as the album, but.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Responded to k Dot, people were like, yeah, I thought
- 4:10Speaker 1: Cole would do a little bit better, but I didn't
- 4:13Speaker 1: feel like it was the worst. And then J Cole
- 4:16Speaker 1: apologized as a video you can watch it. He was
- 4:19Speaker 1: at a concert and he was just like something in
- 4:22Speaker 1: his spirit or whatever. I don't know what he's saying.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But after saying what he would do to rappers. It
- 4:26Speaker 1: was pretty disappointing to a lot of J Cole fans
- 4:30Speaker 1: and probably some haters who didn't like him anyway, And
- 4:34Speaker 1: he had been trying to pick up from the rollout.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But that battle literally the residual effects of that battle, right,
- 4:46Speaker 1: the battle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar took place in
- 4:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, like that, that was that year. But
- 4:55Speaker 1: then twenty twenty five was like the residue of that battle, right,
- 5:00Speaker 1: not like us Grammy Awards, Kendrick got the Super Bowl,
- 5:04Speaker 1: Super Bowl.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Hey, Drake, you know what I'm saying. I hear you
- 5:08Speaker 2: like him.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So it lasted for a long time, and in that time,
- 5:13Speaker 1: Drake and J Cole were trying to be like, hey,
- 5:16Speaker 1: remember remember us I dropped something?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you still don't like what I did?
- 5:21Speaker 1: And I thought in twenty twenty five, J Cole had
- 5:27Speaker 1: a song called Clouds right, and it was really like
- 5:31Speaker 1: loud right, you.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Know, it was it was a bunch of things.
- 5:35Speaker 1: But I thought it was a dope record because it
- 5:38Speaker 1: was the one record where he didn't, you know, really
- 5:44Speaker 1: addressed what happened.
- 5:46Speaker 2: He just rapped and he just rapped about something else. Now.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Prior to that, he tried to say a few things
- 5:54Speaker 1: about like what would have happened on that song that
- 5:58Speaker 1: was essentially an apology to Drake port Antonio. I think
- 6:03Speaker 1: that was the name event and it was a dope record,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but because of what happened, it just soured people. So
- 6:11Speaker 1: every time J Cole tried to pop out and be like, AYO,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm still nice, the minute he would say anything about
- 6:20Speaker 1: top three and blah blah blah, people would just push
- 6:24Speaker 1: him back down. So then the rollout for the fall
- 6:29Speaker 1: off is happening. In twenty twenty six, on his birthday,
- 6:33Speaker 1: he releases a mixtape hosted by DJ Klue called A
- 6:38Speaker 1: Birthday Blizzard twenty six, which is kind of a nice
- 6:42Speaker 1: nod to DJ clue mixtape from back in the day
- 6:46Speaker 1: called The Blizzard of ninety six. I was outside, y'all.
- 6:50Speaker 1: The mixtape was dope, but I mean I was literally outside.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Had a job around that time and had to work,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and if you were here for the Blizzard of ninety six,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, like how'd you get there?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Long story?
- 7:01Speaker 1: But the mixtape came out and he's rapping over you know,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Black Rob beats locks like he's wrapping over these dope
- 7:11Speaker 1: beats and he's he's going crazy from an ability standpoint.
- 7:18Speaker 2: But he does it again.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Right, He talks about falling out of the top three,
- 7:24Speaker 1: which I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm cool with that because
- 7:26Speaker 1: that's kind of what happened. I didn't think he fell out.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I think he just fell to number three because you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: he ain't fight for it. After he talked, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he took a swing and then he was like, oh,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I don't really want to fight. I swung on you,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I missed, but I don't really want to fight. So again,
- 7:45Speaker 1: any mention of that will make some rap fans roll
- 7:50Speaker 1: their eyes at him. And he was on it again
- 7:54Speaker 1: saying what he would do and blah blah blah.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But the mixtape was dope, and for me, even.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Though I may feel like, yo, stop talking about that battle,
- 8:05Speaker 1: like no one cares anymore at least I don't, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 1: just rap about other things, it was still a dope mixtape, right,
- 8:14Speaker 1: And I had it as one of the best album
- 8:18Speaker 1: slash mixtapes of January twenty twenty six because it just
- 8:23Speaker 1: it just was, you know.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So now we're here the fall off.
- 8:31Speaker 1: You know, he dropped a single a record called and
- 8:35Speaker 1: it's on the album. It's not called this, but he didn't.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I guess he didn't want to give up the title.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But it was like a disc to track two, right.
- 8:44Speaker 1: He had a video on everything, and I talked about
- 8:46Speaker 1: it on a previous episode where the concept was him
- 8:52Speaker 1: going through his life and backwards, you know, from his
- 8:55Speaker 1: death and just going back to his youth. And it
- 8:59Speaker 1: was really dope, and it was an homage to Naza's
- 9:02Speaker 1: rewind Off the Stealmatic album, and it was pretty dope.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And when I saw it, when I heard that, I
- 9:07Speaker 1: was like, do that. Stop talking about top three, Stop
- 9:13Speaker 1: talking about the battles, stop talking about what.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You would have done you didn't do it. Move on
- 9:20Speaker 2: that song. Told me.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I have some high helps for the album now because
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think he's just gonna do it.
- 9:27Speaker 2: He's just gonna rap. He's just gonna do what.
- 9:29Speaker 1: He does right and forget about that battle. And so
- 9:34Speaker 1: now the album is out. It's a double album. It's
- 9:40Speaker 1: twenty four tracks. And when I say that, I mean
- 9:45Speaker 1: there are no.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I mean there's an intro.
- 9:48Speaker 1: There's two intros, but one intro straight up a song,
- 9:54Speaker 1: So it's really twenty three songs straight. No other rappers
- 10:02Speaker 1: are taking versus rapping on this project. When you look
- 10:07Speaker 1: at the album, you know, just like looking at the
- 10:10Speaker 1: track listing, the features aren't there. But there are features
- 10:14Speaker 1: on the album, right. And some people can go ahead
- 10:19Speaker 1: and put this in a comment section because I didn't
- 10:21Speaker 1: really go and do the research because I was kind
- 10:23Speaker 1: of just trying to be, you know, a music head
- 10:27Speaker 1: and just listen and know who's singing. And you know
- 10:31Speaker 1: what I'm saying, So Futures on here. I believe Erika
- 10:34Speaker 1: Badu is on here. Also a couple of people are
- 10:38Speaker 1: on here, but more so singing poetry, right, but no
- 10:44Speaker 1: like k Dot is on a song and Drake is
- 10:48Speaker 1: on another song.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It is crazy.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And you know Future got a whole verse like nah,
- 10:53Speaker 1: he uses them for hooks and to basically fill out
- 10:59Speaker 1: the vine been the concept of the record. The length
- 11:04Speaker 1: of this album is one hour and forty one minutes.
- 11:08Speaker 1: To be expected, it's a double album. The label this
- 11:15Speaker 1: says twenty twenty six Cold World Incorporated, under exclusive license
- 11:20Speaker 1: to Interscope Records. And before I get right into the review,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I just want to say, remember he was on rock
- 11:31Speaker 1: Nation and on this album he says he's independent.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Now it's free, no more. He says, no more deal.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I feel like and I'm an just spoiler alert him
- 11:46Speaker 1: calling this his last album, but now he doesn't really
- 11:50Speaker 1: have and he calls it his best album. Also, he's
- 11:56Speaker 1: when an artist is free, like Big Crit for example,
- 12:00Speaker 1: Big Crit was dope before he went to Death Jam,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and when he went to Death Jam, it felt like
- 12:06Speaker 1: the albums were missing something, you know what I'm saying,
- 12:10Speaker 1: Like it didn't feel like those mixtapes he created, and
- 12:13Speaker 1: a minute he got out of his deal, it was
- 12:17Speaker 1: like the Crit we knew was back as far musically,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and he dropped probably like three bangers of like he
- 12:25Speaker 1: hasn't had a whack album since he left Deaf Jam.
- 12:29Speaker 1: J Cole saying he retires but he's independent. I don't
- 12:34Speaker 1: believe him. I believe we gonna get mixtape Cole on
- 12:40Speaker 1: any other album he makes from hair on. And That's
- 12:43Speaker 1: what I've always wanted from J Cole as an artist,
- 12:47Speaker 1: right because that first his first album, I do not
- 12:50Speaker 1: like it. There are songs I like on there, but
- 12:54Speaker 1: it was a disappointment because his mixtape Run was crazy
- 12:58Speaker 1: and it felt like rock Nation was trying to make
- 13:01Speaker 1: him into Drake while at Ken Draken and every like
- 13:05Speaker 1: all his peers who had radio singles, and maybe Kendrick
- 13:12Speaker 1: is not in that line because Kendrick's singles that hit
- 13:16Speaker 1: aren't really built for the radio. They just or at
- 13:19Speaker 1: least they don't sound like it. But you know what
- 13:22Speaker 1: I mean, they wanted J Cole to just be like them,
- 13:26Speaker 1: or be like Drake specifically. And I always felt like,
- 13:29Speaker 1: that's not his length, that's not what he's good at.
- 13:31Speaker 1: He's best when you listen to his mixtapes, he's best
- 13:36Speaker 1: at that.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Listen to Bill Maddick, that's him. So with this.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Album for those and I'm sorry you had to wait
- 13:45Speaker 1: through a little history lesson, but some people they just
- 13:47Speaker 1: don't know all this information and you got to help
- 13:49Speaker 1: people out, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:53Speaker 2: But two disc.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Disc twenty nine and Disc thirty nine, now I don't
- 14:01Speaker 1: know what the.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I don't know what the concept is behind that.
- 14:08Speaker 1: So if I don't know if J Cole has even
- 14:10Speaker 1: done the interview yet, probably soon, but if he does,
- 14:15Speaker 1: leave it in a comment section so you could put
- 14:17Speaker 1: me on because I don't know, but I know he
- 14:20Speaker 1: wanted it to feel like a double album that was
- 14:23Speaker 1: a CD changer kind of thing, and that's why he
- 14:26Speaker 1: used Disc twenty nine and Disc thirty nine. The album
- 14:31Speaker 1: cover is his first drum machine. I believe he would
- 14:34Speaker 1: make his beats. It's like his workstation. And I love
- 14:39Speaker 1: that because that is the humble beginnings of every rapper,
- 14:44Speaker 1: of every producer. If any rapper or producer tells you
- 14:49Speaker 1: how much they had like it tells you that they
- 14:52Speaker 1: had a studio, like when they were fifteen or sixteen,
- 14:55Speaker 1: their parents got bred. But most rappers, most rappers start
- 15:03Speaker 1: out like j Cole's album cover for the fall off
- 15:07Speaker 1: if they're lucky.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Some people don't even have all of that, you know
- 15:12Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 15:12Speaker 1: They starting out with some joint where it's just like, yoh,
- 15:16Speaker 1: Jerie only got two seconds, so I'm gonna be here
- 15:18Speaker 1: for twenty four hours making his instrumental, you know, to
- 15:21Speaker 1: sample this whatever.
- 15:25Speaker 2: But for those who need an answer straight.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Up about how good this album is, it's the best
- 15:35Speaker 1: album of twenty twenty six so far.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Now.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I know you might say, well, damn, that's we only
- 15:41Speaker 1: really had one month. Well yeah, but there's no way
- 15:47Speaker 1: it's gonna fall out of at least my best of
- 15:52Speaker 1: list because it's a great album, and to summarize it,
- 15:57Speaker 1: it is.
- 16:01Speaker 2: It's it's the best example of everything.
- 16:05Speaker 1: J Cole has done as an artist musically throughout his career.
- 16:11Speaker 1: It's mixtape Cole, It's Radio Cole is different flows J Cole,
- 16:17Speaker 1: This concepts Ja Cole's It's song for the ladies, but
- 16:24Speaker 1: from a human perspective, you know, not super mac and
- 16:27Speaker 1: all that.
- 16:28Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. It boss just.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Really a well thought out well you know really, I
- 16:38Speaker 1: think that's the main thing. It's produced well obviously, but
- 16:44Speaker 1: as a concept for him in his life and career
- 16:49Speaker 1: and where he's from and where he currently stays and how.
- 16:54Speaker 2: He views the world.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Like you, you could literally not have listen to a
- 17:00Speaker 1: J co album ever. Hear that description, Listen to this
- 17:05Speaker 1: album and you will get a great idea of what
- 17:11Speaker 1: he is and who he is as an EMC and
- 17:13Speaker 1: an artist. So when you go back a lot of
- 17:16Speaker 1: the records that he created in the past and a
- 17:19Speaker 1: lot of the other.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Albums all click, they all make sense.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It's like a good a great introduction to somebody on
- 17:26Speaker 1: their final album, which is not typically what happens and
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think that's because when you listen to J Cole's
- 17:33Speaker 1: first album, typically a rapper's debut is like your introduction
- 17:40Speaker 1: to them, so they tell their story like thoroughly tell
- 17:43Speaker 1: their story. But it feels like J Cole's career has
- 17:48Speaker 1: kind of worked in reverse, like his song right, So
- 17:56Speaker 1: I think that's the deal. And if anyone wants to know,
- 18:00Speaker 1: how do I grade my albums? Obviously this was a
- 18:02Speaker 1: double album, so it took me a little bit more
- 18:04Speaker 1: time to sit with it enough to form an opinion,
- 18:08Speaker 1: but I give it. I give albums three listens, right.
- 18:13Speaker 1: First listen, I'm just I'm just checking it out. It's
- 18:16Speaker 1: just playing and I'm just reacting and it's all impressions.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Second listen, I'm listening a little bit more intently to
- 18:25Speaker 1: the lyrics to the arrangement. You know, not only of
- 18:31Speaker 1: the songs in order and on the different discs, but
- 18:34Speaker 1: also the music music itself, you know, beat switches and
- 18:39Speaker 1: you know styles and flows and everything. And then the
- 18:44Speaker 1: third listen is really just to confirm what I think
- 18:47Speaker 1: about the album, and as you heard, I like it
- 18:51Speaker 1: a lot.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So getting to the album real quick.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Some of my favorite records off of here and this
- 18:59Speaker 1: is not going to be a little on the view.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Uh.
- 19:02Speaker 1: It starts well, let me just say this. It starts
- 19:04Speaker 1: out within an intro twenty nine intro where a song
- 19:10Speaker 1: about Carolina is playing, right, and it's a I think
- 19:15Speaker 1: it's like a it's either a country song ORed folks song.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with it. I'm sorry. If you're from
- 19:20Speaker 1: North Carolina, you're like.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Nah, that's you know, that's beat him in the band joke, Like,
- 19:25Speaker 2: I don't get it, thog like it. I get it.
- 19:28Speaker 1: That's where he's from. That's why he used it. I
- 19:30Speaker 1: think it's dope that he did. But it kind of
- 19:34Speaker 1: ends with some gunshots and when you listen you'll you
- 19:38Speaker 1: kind of get the vibe of what he was doing there.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And then the first track is a track called two
- 19:44Speaker 1: six that I was kind of at first. I was
- 19:47Speaker 1: kind of like, the man, just use your flow. I'm like,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I'm tired of the the flow.
- 19:54Speaker 2: That you know.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Is it migos like you know that when it eight
- 20:00Speaker 1: away type beats, you know there's a specific flow that
- 20:04Speaker 1: Jake Cole like everybody Drake or we're using that. I'm
- 20:08Speaker 1: just like, stop doing that. Your flow is enough. You
- 20:12Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, and it is. But then he
- 20:14Speaker 1: switches and I'm like, Okay, I'm not man. I'm not
- 20:19Speaker 1: man because it's not gonna This is not going to
- 20:22Speaker 1: be as predictable as I thought it was going to
- 20:25Speaker 1: be when I heard that record, especially coming off this
- 20:28Speaker 1: mixtape where he just went crazy.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Another song, I like safety, you know.
- 20:36Speaker 1: And I'll say this like j Cole is holding down
- 20:40Speaker 1: this album completely lyrically. And some of these run times
- 20:44Speaker 1: for songs like five minutes or more.
- 20:47Speaker 2: That's like old school.
- 20:49Speaker 1: So that's to be commended because there's a lot of
- 20:52Speaker 1: guys out here who don't even give you enough versus,
- 20:56Speaker 1: let alone give you a five minute track, like some
- 20:59Speaker 1: cats are just not doing that anymore. Poor Thing is
- 21:03Speaker 1: another one. Legacy is dope. One of my favorites is
- 21:08Speaker 1: who the F Is You.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Why?
- 21:12Speaker 1: Because I can relate to it. It has a dope bit. Well,
- 21:16Speaker 1: first of all, the beat is dope when it starts out.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And I believe that's the record that samples because there's
- 21:22Speaker 1: two Mob Deep samples on this album, but that record
- 21:25Speaker 1: in particular samples drop a gem on them off of
- 21:29Speaker 1: Mob Deep's third album, Hell on Earth, which will be
- 21:34Speaker 1: celebrating with a special episode right here on the channel,
- 21:38Speaker 1: saluting nineteen ninety six because it's thirty years since that
- 21:41Speaker 1: classic album, but perfect time for Cole to sample it
- 21:46Speaker 1: on the song that I like a lot, and I
- 21:48Speaker 1: believe there's a beat switch and I mess with that too,
- 21:51Speaker 1: so that song is high. Drumming Bass is not what
- 21:55Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be. It's such a
- 21:57Speaker 1: cool vibe and his flow is smooth and everything, and
- 22:01Speaker 1: I was just like, okay, disc one or excuse me,
- 22:06Speaker 1: this twenty nine. I'm like this, this is cool, but again,
- 22:11Speaker 1: I know there's a long way to go on this album.
- 22:14Speaker 1: The next record right after Drumming Bass is The Letout.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I really like that one.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Because I can relate to it right And I'm not
- 22:23Speaker 1: saying only I, I'm just speaking for myself.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I can relate to that record.
- 22:29Speaker 1: If you don't know what the letout is, that's when
- 22:34Speaker 1: and you may be familiar, but that's when you know.
- 22:36Speaker 2: You go to a club or whatever.
- 22:38Speaker 1: You in the club and once it's all over and
- 22:42Speaker 1: you're let out of the club by security, right everybody's
- 22:47Speaker 1: leaving the club. People black folk we like to kind
- 22:52Speaker 1: of hang out in and round, and that's called the letout.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I know people who just went to the letouts of
- 23:00Speaker 1: why because that was the opportunity for them to do
- 23:03Speaker 1: some parking lot pamp it okay, or set up you know,
- 23:07Speaker 1: whatever next spot you're going to with your friends or
- 23:11Speaker 1: some women or whatever. But J Cole raps about it
- 23:16Speaker 1: being dangerous, like I hope I survived to let out,
- 23:21Speaker 1: and that is true because a couple of a couple
- 23:26Speaker 1: of situations. And again, I'm not here to spoil the
- 23:28Speaker 1: tracks or whatever. I'm just trying to give you my
- 23:30Speaker 1: opinion and what and why I like certain songs. But
- 23:35Speaker 1: for example, sometimes when you're in the club, you may
- 23:39Speaker 1: have some beef with somebody, right, you don't know if
- 23:42Speaker 1: that beef is going to it may get settled in
- 23:45Speaker 1: the club, right, security separates y'all get out of here,
- 23:49Speaker 1: go dance somewhere else, But you don't know if it's
- 23:53Speaker 1: going to pick up once you're let out of the club.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Or you could have had a great time in the
- 24:02Speaker 1: club and you and the homies a hype and you know,
- 24:06Speaker 1: maybe you got a couple of numbers, maybe gonna slide
- 24:08Speaker 1: whatever it may be, but you don't know about somebody
- 24:11Speaker 1: else's beef that may be popping off outside of the
- 24:17Speaker 1: club during the letout, or the dude that got kicked
- 24:22Speaker 1: out because he was the aggressive.
- 24:25Speaker 2: You don't know if he went back to his.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Car and can't and he's waiting at the letout to
- 24:31Speaker 1: let out with it. I'm doing for people listening it
- 24:34Speaker 1: that did the gun fingers whatever.
- 24:37Speaker 2: But you know what I mean.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I related to that record a lot, so it became
- 24:41Speaker 1: one of my favorite But at that point in time
- 24:44Speaker 1: where you know, I'm like, Okay, we're getting to the
- 24:47Speaker 1: end of disc one or disc twenty nine, and my
- 24:52Speaker 1: feelings on the first disc was it's cool. You know,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I like a couple of songs hearing and it's cool.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'm not blown away by anything. I'm not like, oh,
- 25:03Speaker 1: this is the greatest I can't wait to hear more.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I was.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I liked what I heard and most of it was cool,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but I was curious about how he was going to
- 25:14Speaker 1: finish this project. Because double albums, that second disc is
- 25:19Speaker 1: just as important as the first, and throughout the history
- 25:23Speaker 1: of hip hop, there's some double disc albums where that
- 25:28Speaker 1: first disc is fire and that second one is kind
- 25:31Speaker 1: of lame or vice versa.
- 25:34Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Maybe that first disc was okay, but then the second
- 25:38Speaker 1: this is better. Shout out to the game documentary two.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Both discs are flames. I couldn't believe it when I
- 25:47Speaker 1: was listening to it. Bud, y'all should check that out.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So I get to excuse me. Disc number two, which
- 25:54Speaker 1: is Disc thirty nine, and the intro drops, which is
- 25:59Speaker 1: a basically an intro in a six minute song, and
- 26:02Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, maybe it's just gonna be a little
- 26:06Speaker 1: bit of more of the same, but you know this,
- 26:10Speaker 1: this intro sounds good.
- 26:12Speaker 2: You know it's to me, it wasn't like the strongest.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Like again, there's some double albums when that sect that
- 26:21Speaker 1: first song off the second disc is really strong. It's like, oh, okay,
- 26:27Speaker 1: we kick it into second gear. But I didn't feel
- 26:30Speaker 1: that way about this. I felt like, oh, this is cool.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Remember before this album, he dropped the video for a
- 26:36Speaker 1: song titled Disc two Track two. Well, the name of
- 26:42Speaker 1: that song is the fall Off is Inevitable, right, And
- 26:47Speaker 1: that's the song where he's rapping his life and reverse.
- 26:50Speaker 1: So I'm like, okay, you know I heard this before,
- 26:53Speaker 1: but I thought it was pretty dope. So we're starting
- 26:55Speaker 1: to pick up. Then the next song that I like
- 26:58Speaker 1: a lot, the Villas, It's like, oh yeah, okay, now
- 27:05Speaker 1: we're talking spitting. It's kind of crazy. This two is
- 27:10Speaker 1: this two slash this thirty nine. It's starting to sound
- 27:13Speaker 1: like this is the stronger of the two.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Did.
- 27:17Speaker 1: He drops a song called Old Dog, and I'm like, yo,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I like that, And I also a song that is
- 27:23Speaker 1: very relatable, right, and not just physically but mentally where
- 27:28Speaker 1: you are even if you're not a rapper, you know
- 27:31Speaker 1: what I'm saying, just where you are in your life
- 27:32Speaker 1: and the way you think about things. And again, nothing
- 27:38Speaker 1: he's saying is all surface elementary raps, right. Some of
- 27:44Speaker 1: it is so you know what he's talking about, but
- 27:46Speaker 1: some of it is a lot of metaphors and similes
- 27:50Speaker 1: and stuff like that, which you know.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I like.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Life sentence is a favorite of mine. J Coo is
- 27:57Speaker 1: very good at making relationship songs.
- 28:02Speaker 2: He's very good at that. Y'all hated folding clothes.
- 28:05Speaker 1: I was like, this song is dope, okay, because you
- 28:08Speaker 1: know why, because it's real life.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I like some of the record, like cool I grew
- 28:15Speaker 1: up on Koolgi Rat Okay, cool Gi rap two short Scarface.
- 28:20Speaker 1: You listen to that first Scarface album. His debut is
- 28:24Speaker 1: a song going there. That's what I was used to,
- 28:29Speaker 1: but I knew that's not everybody's life. Life sentenced by
- 28:33Speaker 1: Jay Cole is another way to make a song about
- 28:37Speaker 1: getting married.
- 28:40Speaker 2: And it's flames.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Okay, you thought it was about prison, it's not okay,
- 28:47Speaker 1: as someone who's been married doing on twenty five years.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Trust me, I used that term life sentence all the time.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I'm joking. All right, ladies, relax. So I'm listening to it.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, this too. And then I get to
- 29:04Speaker 1: track number eight on Disc thirty nine, I love her again.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Now shout out to the homie IK.
- 29:11Speaker 1: You know, we always cipher after, you know, big releases
- 29:14Speaker 1: and talk about things.
- 29:16Speaker 2: But me and him said the same thing when we
- 29:18Speaker 2: read the title.
- 29:19Speaker 1: We were like, this is going to be another version
- 29:23Speaker 1: of commons I used to love her. If you don't
- 29:26Speaker 1: know about that record, go look it up. Listen to it.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Spoil the alert. He's talking about hip hop. He's not
- 29:33Speaker 1: talking about a woman. He's using hip hop as if
- 29:38Speaker 1: it's a woman in a relationship. I'm here to tell
- 29:41Speaker 1: you it's been done over and over again. Even Common
- 29:46Speaker 1: kind of went back to the well and said how
- 29:48Speaker 1: he felt about loving hip hop. Numerous times people have
- 29:51Speaker 1: used the concept, but this is the definitive sequel to
- 29:57Speaker 1: why I used to love her. I don't care what
- 29:59Speaker 1: you say, because it's that good. It's that good. Whereas
- 30:06Speaker 1: commons I used to love her was obviously coming from
- 30:10Speaker 1: his perspective and his relationship with hip hop at that time,
- 30:14Speaker 1: so it included a lot of references to the West
- 30:18Speaker 1: Coast in the eighties and nineties and.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Stuff like that.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Whereas this, because J Cole is younger, he's on a
- 30:27Speaker 1: different timeline and hip hop, and it feels like he
- 30:31Speaker 1: picks up where COmON left off. You know, it might
- 30:34Speaker 1: be a little bit of a gap in there because
- 30:35Speaker 1: of their ages, but he definitely picks up early two thousands,
- 30:40Speaker 1: and he talks about like, you know, how he came
- 30:45Speaker 1: to New York. I'm not gonna spoil it too much,
- 30:47Speaker 1: but you know, he came to New York because that's
- 30:49Speaker 1: where hip hop is right and she moved to the
- 30:52Speaker 1: A and we all know the timeline with Atlanta taking
- 30:56Speaker 1: over basically hip hop right very dope record, and to me,
- 31:02Speaker 1: that's when it all clicked. It was like that song happened,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and then my brain started to go back to everything
- 31:09Speaker 1: I heard previously, and I was like, this is if
- 31:14Speaker 1: this ain't his best album, this is close.
- 31:16Speaker 2: This is number two.
- 31:19Speaker 1: And one last record I want to highlight because I
- 31:23Speaker 1: think it speaks to the Battle, but in a very
- 31:29Speaker 1: different way. And it's called what If, And you find
- 31:34Speaker 1: j Cole basically assuming the role of Biggie and Tupac
- 31:41Speaker 1: and different verses and basically choosing the alternative from what happened,
- 31:51Speaker 1: what if Big was able to do this? What if
- 31:56Speaker 1: Pac was able to do this?
- 31:59Speaker 2: Right?
- 32:00Speaker 1: And he goes through the timeline of almost everything you
- 32:03Speaker 1: can find on the internet and documentaries about Tupac and
- 32:06Speaker 1: Biggie and their deaths, and he includes it there, but
- 32:11Speaker 1: he includes the what if they were able to reconcile,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you know, or talk or whatever.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And we know none of that was able to happen.
- 32:22Speaker 1: But we also know that that rap beef wasn't the
- 32:27Speaker 1: cause of their demise, and I think that's a media thing,
- 32:30Speaker 1: to be honest, which J Cole mentions, but we know
- 32:35Speaker 1: a rap battle didn't do that because we can go
- 32:38Speaker 1: down the history of the best rap battles of all time,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and Big and Pac never battled, Shan and kras One did,
- 32:49Speaker 1: Busy B and Kumo, d ice Cube and NWA, West
- 32:54Speaker 1: Side Connection and Common like Nobody died. They exchanged this record.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Biggie and POC never really exchanged disc records. Pac made
- 33:05Speaker 1: one this well, maybe he made two, but it's just
- 33:11Speaker 1: not that's not what the result was. They didn't get
- 33:14Speaker 1: murdered because of dis records.
- 33:18Speaker 2: But I heard this song.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I think it's pretty dope because Ja Cole flows like Biggie,
- 33:25Speaker 1: but he doesn't try to sound like Biggie, right, And
- 33:29Speaker 1: when I say sound, he doesn't change his voice. It's
- 33:31Speaker 1: still j Cole rapid in his own voice, but he's
- 33:36Speaker 1: flowing like Biggie. And then the same thing with Tupac.
- 33:40Speaker 1: He's flowing like Tupac, similar cadences to both of them.
- 33:45Speaker 1: And I thought that was really dope because we've seen
- 33:48Speaker 1: it happen where people using a AI or trying to
- 33:53Speaker 1: change their voice to sound like them and they don't
- 33:55Speaker 1: really sound like them.
- 33:57Speaker 2: But he did.
- 33:58Speaker 1: All of this tell a story, and the only reason
- 34:00Speaker 1: why I feel like it was tied to the battle
- 34:04Speaker 1: and specifically to him bowing out of the battle. Is
- 34:10Speaker 1: because the what if is if they didn't go that route, right,
- 34:15Speaker 1: they didn't go that route of beefing, what if they
- 34:18Speaker 1: made the decision to do something else, to talk or
- 34:22Speaker 1: to bow out or whatever it may be. And I think,
- 34:26Speaker 1: you know, that was probably Jacole's best way to express
- 34:31Speaker 1: probably the only way he should have expressed what he
- 34:35Speaker 1: felt at the time when he was leaving the battle
- 34:39Speaker 1: with Kendrick, Lamar and Drake. This is this is probably
- 34:44Speaker 1: the only thing he should have said in regards to
- 34:47Speaker 1: the battle in this form. And I think everything would
- 34:52Speaker 1: be fine. And I think everything is fine, but there's
- 34:54Speaker 1: going to be people who still don't like him because
- 34:57Speaker 1: of that. But I feel like all of that what
- 35:00Speaker 1: I would have done in the battle? Nah, this what
- 35:04Speaker 1: if say it like that, you know what I'm saying,
- 35:08Speaker 1: or even I love her again, say it like that,
- 35:13Speaker 1: then people would be like, then you look like literally
- 35:17Speaker 1: look like the bigger guy. But again, when you were threatened,
- 35:20Speaker 1: the yo, if they come against me, the Gods is gonna,
- 35:24Speaker 1: the clouds are gonna.
- 35:26Speaker 2: You didn't do none of that, okay, but this is it.
- 35:29Speaker 1: So in summary, J Coles The fall Off is a
- 35:33Speaker 1: very dope album double album, one of the better double
- 35:38Speaker 1: albums in hip hop history?
- 35:39Speaker 2: Is it the best? That's debatable.
- 35:44Speaker 1: For him not to have any other rappers rapping on here,
- 35:49Speaker 1: that is very commendable for a double disc, because I'm
- 35:55Speaker 1: I'm almost positive unless there's an album I'm not thinking
- 35:59Speaker 1: about that it's a double album. Most double albums, including
- 36:03Speaker 1: Life After Death and All Eyes on Me, have a
- 36:06Speaker 1: bunch of features. And nothing's wrong with having a bunch
- 36:10Speaker 1: of features, you know, it's cool to hear them, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 1: rapping next to other people. But he held this down
- 36:18Speaker 1: himself and for the most part, there's a lot to
- 36:21Speaker 1: like here. Sure, you can take the best of these
- 36:26Speaker 1: discs and make something that is like an untouchable classic.
- 36:31Speaker 1: But I feel like, for what he did in twenty
- 36:33Speaker 1: twenty six this way and it's in his way, it's
- 36:39Speaker 1: commendable and it's one of the best albums of twenty
- 36:41Speaker 1: twenty six so far. So did you hear J Cole's

- 37:37Speaker 1: years since those albums dropped, and I brought in a
- 37:42Speaker 1: homie hot to do you know, to review the album,
- 37:46Speaker 1: re review it. And there's going to be a whole
- 37:49Speaker 1: series of albums from nineteen ninety six, twelve albums once
- 37:56Speaker 1: a month, and I think you should check it out.
