- 0:24All right, everybody, you're listening to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show,
- 0:27the longest running weekly Philmy sports podcast show in the world. That is right.
- 0:31This week, we are commemorating and celebrating ten years of podcasting, ten
- 0:38years on this particular podcast, the Philadelphia Sports Table us being in existence,
- 0:44and we've got something very interesting you're gonna hear in just a bit. I'm
- 0:48Jeff Warren. I'm here at my good buddy Len Hunt Sicker, who I
- 0:53asked to do this podcast with ten years ago, and amazingly enough, he
- 0:57said, yes, So buddy, how you doing? Man? Well,
- 1:00I said yeah, because I didn't think this is gonna be like a ten
- 1:03year saying I'll do it a couple of months and then we'll be done.
- 1:07Is that what you thought like it was gonna be a couple of months?
- 1:08I, Um, I didn't know. Honestly, I don't really know what
- 1:12I thought. I don't think really know that I had expectations. UM,
- 1:17I just know how I am personally being, you know, the kind of
- 1:21person that starts stuff and doesn't necessarily isn't the best at like, um,
- 1:26completing it, We're sticking with it and stuff like that. So it was
- 1:29kind of like the thought of as well, Hell, if I'm involved in
- 1:30it, you know, probably isn't gonna last that long. Jesus, this
- 1:34could be len because we've known each other since, you know, our college
- 1:38days. You know, we've known each other for a decades decades, a
- 1:42very very long time. This could be the longest commitment I think you have
- 1:46ever won, that you've ever made in your life. I think this could
- 1:49be probably. I mean, like honestly, like part of like one of
- 1:53the proudest things for me was like that I went back and got my degree
- 1:57because I made a decision and I stuck to it and I actually you know,
- 2:01followed through with it. So yeah, I mean I'm I'm not a
- 2:06kind of person that does that a whole heck of a lot. So yeah,
- 2:08I mean, in terms of that, yeah, ten years from pretty
- 2:13easily. Absolutely, Like it's a it's amazing we're still doing this. Our
- 2:16good friend of the show, Kelly Hankle, I'm not sure if you saw
- 2:21her like congrats post on Twitter to us and she called us, uh,
- 2:24the Philly Sports podcast dads. Did you see that? I could see that.
- 2:30Yeah, I thought it was hilarious and I was like that really does
- 2:32make us seem old though too. But but it does though, like honestly,
- 2:37like like like I'll use those guys over at um broad Street Hockey Radio
- 2:42as an example, Like you listen to them, You're like, oh,
- 2:46yeah, they're like they're all like eight years younger than us and pretty much
- 2:49everybody like where I would say in terms of people that do a steady podcast,
- 2:54I would say, we are certainly on the older end of people within
- 3:00the Philadelphia sports realm. And you know we're yeah, absolutely, yeah,
- 3:04absolutely we are. Man, I I gotta say, and you know,
- 3:07I'm not gonna get emotional learn anything like that. I'm not even though you
- 3:10know me, I can get emotional. I can laugh at you. You've
- 3:16seen me get emotional every now and then. But I'll say this, you
- 3:21know, Lennon, I just I appreciate you, buddy. I thank you
- 3:23so much for sticking around this long. I really do. Because there was
- 3:28there was a moment. Do you remember the moment? It might have been
- 3:30after maybe just two years of doing this show, you and I had to
- 3:35have a talk and it was actually at Eric's house. I think it was
- 3:37like outside in his backyard area. I don't know if you remember that at
- 3:40all, but I think because of where your expectations were at the time of
- 3:46what this podcast was and what it was kind of like becoming, and where
- 3:50my expectations were, there was like there was there was a little tension.
- 3:53I think there was a little did you do you remember this? I think
- 3:55I think there was like a definite difference, and because because and because I
- 4:01had the thing of like, um of like okay, and especially earlier on
- 4:05in the whole podcasting, where you'd see people, Okay, they're getting the
- 4:10show, they're able to you know, like make a thing out of it,
- 4:13um, you know, monetize it or whatever, um and and I
- 4:17was and I was like, oh, okay, maybe we'll go in that
- 4:19direction. And that didn't really happen for us. Um So it was just
- 4:24like, yeah, all right, what are we doing? Like I sometimes
- 4:27occasually had a thought of like legitimate, like are we doing something wrong that
- 4:30other people were having that's a um yeah, that's just not what we ended
- 4:34up doing, right, But um So I did have that thought of like
- 4:39are we just messing up or something that you know that didn't necessarily happen exactly.
- 4:44Yeah, And I think, I think whereas I think from the beginning
- 4:46you were more of like a this I just you know, this is just
- 4:49what I'm doing, regardless of what becomes of it, And I had to
- 4:54eventually just come around to that that like, even if it doesn't become something
- 4:58that like that, that I'd still be doing exactly. And I think we
- 5:00are comparing ourselves back then, unfortunately to other podcasts that were able to take
- 5:05a larger leap because they already had an established presence on the Internet. They
- 5:11already had an established presence within a certain fan base or something like you take
- 5:15like, for instance, you take like the sp Nation sites. You know,
- 5:17we love our sp Nation sites here, whether it's Broadstreet Hockey or whether
- 5:21it's Liberty Ballers especially. That's right, yeah, you know you basically got
- 5:27rid of hockey exactly. But I mean you take a look at Bleeding Green
- 5:30Nation, say, for instance, like they had an established and still do.
- 5:35They have an established platform of a website where people are constantly going there,
- 5:40so of course they're gonna see a little bit more success. NBC Philly
- 5:45Sports, Yeah, NBC Philly Sports. I mean, these people, these
- 5:47personalities that we see on TV, they start a podcast, and yeah,
- 5:50of course they're successful and they're able to monetize that because they're on TV,
- 5:54so it make it makes sense. In certain areas, it's different. It
- 5:58is difficult for individuals just starting out or just want to pop on a mic
- 6:01and record it to actually really really monetize it to the point where they can
- 6:05actually do it for a living. I mean, we certainly can't. I
- 6:09mean, and that's the other thing, like finding that voice now, because
- 6:13it's just like, you know, we started doing it and it was like
- 6:15there wasn't really a whole heck of a lot out there, and then you
- 6:18know, I got to a point a couple of years ago I was like
- 6:21Jesus Christ, as everybody have a podcast? Yeah, like where it's just
- 6:26like there, it feels like there's now four hundred Philadelphia sports podcasts. Yes,
- 6:30you know, even if it's just you know, basically one team that
- 6:34they're that they're following, rather than the whole scene in general, there's at
- 6:39least a ton of them out there, and it's like, oh my god,
- 6:43absolutely. I never I never thought when we started this, like I
- 6:47had no idea of the scope of the podcast world and how big it was
- 6:51getting. I never thought it would get that big, just that I you
- 6:55you pay attention to more of the you know, the inside baseball stuff with
- 6:59that stuff than I ever did. Yeah, so you probably saw it coming.
- 7:01I was just like, oh my god, this has gotten huge.
- 7:04Exactly exactly it has. And there's some good podcasts out there. There's some
- 7:10real bad podcasts out there too, and usually the bad ones they tend to
- 7:15fade away after time. But I mean this show and what we have all
- 7:20done just in terms of talking about what we like, just talking about,
- 7:24you know, our passion for Philly sports. You know, you've been a
- 7:27Philly sports fan ever since you were a kid. Len you know, Eric
- 7:30has as well, except for the Flyers, and I've been a Philly sports
- 7:33fan my entire life. I just I still love talking about this this city
- 7:39and the sports scene here. And like we mentioned recently, we're gonna start
- 7:43talking about the Philadelphia Union as well, just because you know, it is
- 7:47going to become a growing part of the Philly sports community and I'm really looking
- 7:53forward to that. I'm looking forward to learning more about that sport, which
- 7:56is arguably the most popular sport in the world. I can't wait for us
- 7:59to get in to it. Man. Yeah, I just I hate that,
- 8:03you know, they like had all this momentum coming off last season and
- 8:07then this year like it just like if the if the playoffs were to start
- 8:11today in MLS, they wouldn't be in the playoffs. I don't think.
- 8:15Um, there's been like a bit of a discrepancy between what they're doing in
- 8:20the regular MLS season versus some of the tournament stuff. It just feels like
- 8:24like that's kind of going by the wayside. But it's just like, dude,
- 8:28I'm so ready to jump on this bandwagon forgotten now you guys are losing,
- 8:31Like, hell you don't. But yeah, it's a typical Philly sports
- 8:37team, you know. Just they pull us in, they pull us in,
- 8:41then they break our hearts. Right, That's what it's about. It's
- 8:43pretty much how it goes. Yeah, all right, Well, I did
- 8:46want to read an email that came in from one of our very very long
- 8:48time listeners. We've we've mentioned her name before April, and she just sent
- 8:54a really really nice pod or I'm sorry, I sent a very nice email
- 8:58about this podcast saying happy tenure anniversary. So here's the email. She said,
- 9:03dear PST, wanted to get you my appreciation and my story out to
- 9:09you about how I came to find you first. Thank you. Thank you
- 9:13for putting out phenomenal content that includes great interviews, funny moments, personal life
- 9:18stories, and overall good attitude about not only Philly sports but life in general.
- 9:24Even when feeling a bit curmudgeonly. Your enthusiasm for the city, the
- 9:26teams in each other is palpable. I came to this podcast just a few
- 9:31months from your start, that was recently separated from a husband that hated sports
- 9:37and was in search of a podcast that could restore my sports loving soul to
- 9:39its rightful place. I found it in the I found it in the dulkhit
- 9:46tones of Len, creative cursing of Eric, and infectious laugh of Jeff.
- 9:52I don't know if that's infectious. I think it's stinks, so so's aids.
- 10:01Yes, I've been a regular listener ever since. Not to worry,
- 10:07my second husband is not only a Rabbit sports fan. He was raised in
- 10:11the Poconos, is a Penn State graduate, and is an all Philly sports
- 10:15fan. I chose wisely this time, and then she ended her email saying
- 10:20much love and peace to you all. Looking forward to the next ten years,
- 10:22God bless us. If we're gonna be still here and another ten years,
- 10:26Lena, I don't know. I mean, we're gonna keep doing this,
- 10:28you know, you know, I think for a little bit here,
- 10:31but I don't know about ten years. Who knows. But anyway, April,
- 10:35thank you so much for that email. I read that email, Len
- 10:39and I read those words and the fact that for me, it's about connectivity
- 10:43and it's what I love about this podcast and whether it's our friend Simon over
- 10:46in Australia, we have various other friends and relationships that we have made over
- 10:52all of these years because of this podcast, because of common interests, because
- 10:58we want to I want to feel those bonds with other people that like certain
- 11:01things that we like. And I think it's I think it's very cool that
- 11:05this podcast has done that. Again, we're not the biggest podcast in the
- 11:09world, not by any stretch, or even in the Philly sports world,
- 11:13but I'm very, very proud and happy the fact that we have been able
- 11:16to really create a lot of really great friendships over the years, and I
- 11:20think that's really cool that sports is still able to do that given how sports
- 11:24changes all the time. Yeah, it seems like it's kind of like the
- 11:28one constant about sports. It hasn't changes that it does that with people.
- 11:33Absolutely, It's just and it is funny to me how like so many of
- 11:37the you know, people that have been such long time listeners aren't even like
- 11:41close to the Philadelphia area in terms of like where they live. It's it's
- 11:46always always been interesting to me. I'm sorry, I was taking a drink
- 11:50there. We've had so many great guests over the years too. I remember
- 11:52when Trey Thomas hopped on with us. I think that was our five year
- 11:56anniversary, wasn't it. I think it was. I'm believes I'm trying to
- 12:01think of timeline where I was, like where I was living at the time,
- 12:03yeah, and all that stuff. Yeah, I think it might have
- 12:07been somewhere there. It was great having Brian prop on former Philadelphia Flyer UM.
- 12:11You know, we we we generally don't like to talk to players.
- 12:15It's one thing I specifically when I when I'm going through, you know,
- 12:18looking at folks who to possibly bring on this podcast, I don't like actual
- 12:24players because it's the responses are canned and and you know, current players even
- 12:30like former players are usually pretty good, but former players still have allegiances to
- 12:33certain people, to certain organizations, and sometimes their answers can be canned as
- 12:37well. That's why I like talking to a lot of the reporters and a
- 12:41lot of the other personalities that we bring on this podcast. But uh,
- 12:45I mean we've had some really great discussions over the years, and again some
- 12:48really good friendships with a lot of great people that follow the Phillies, the
- 12:50Eagles, the Flyers, and the Sixers and soon soon the Philadelphia Union as
- 12:56well. Lynn. So I don't know, that's that's about it, you
- 12:58know, in terms of you know what I wanted to really say here on
- 13:01our you know, a ten year anniversary podcast here, I don't know,
- 13:05do you have anything else before we uh, before we play our very very
- 13:09first episode here. Yeah, that that'd be It's just like how that sounded
- 13:13versus how it sounds today, UM, ought to be very interesting. UM.
- 13:20Yeah, a lot of what you said I was I was thinking about
- 13:22it earlier today. Um. In terms of like people like Trey Thomas and
- 13:26you're just like, wow, I just talked to one of the best offensive
- 13:30lineman and Eagles history, and wow, I just Brian prop I just talked
- 13:33to one of the greatest flyers of the nineteen eighties, Like it is kind
- 13:37of crazy that you get to do stuff like that. Um, so yeah,
- 13:41I mean that that stuff I never really thought I would be able to
- 13:46do. Um yeah, it's it's been really cool. I'm just thinking about
- 13:50like, um, you know where you are, you know in your life,
- 13:54like we we've each moved a number of times, you know. Uh
- 13:58since then, Um, I think I went from thinking to like I'm going
- 14:03to be just some weird single dude forever to actually getting married in the spin,
- 14:07Like just how much things change in ten years is just berserk and uh
- 14:13and yet like having this whole be a whole part of the backdrop of that,
- 14:18It's just such a strange, strange way to keep time. I guess.
- 14:22Yeah. I just think of all the I think of, like I
- 14:28did this show from a hotel room in Buffalo, and and all these different
- 14:33times I remember. I remember doing it. I remember doing an interview with
- 14:37John Barchard and I was in a freaking rest trucking rest stop, like twenty
- 14:43miles east of Columbus, Ohio. And I'm just like, what the hell
- 14:46am I doing? Um? So, yeah, yeah, it's very very
- 14:52strange, very strange way to go about doing it, for sure. Oh
- 14:54my god. Yeah, ten years is a long time for sure. I'm
- 14:58not sure if you saw my wife post. I think it was on Facebook.
- 15:01My wife posted a picture of me in front of the computer and microphone
- 15:05the very first time. Ye, Holy cow, was a lot younger.
- 15:09Yes, I was gonna says, will do something to you. Yeah,
- 15:15And I was like, I looked at that picture. It was like,
- 15:18dude, he looks like he's in his freaking twenties there in that picture.
- 15:20Yes, oh man, these kids have destroyed you. They have. The
- 15:26women in my life have destroyed me. And I worked with fifteen women.
- 15:28I'm the only male in my place of work. They're all, they're all,
- 15:33they're just taking your life force away from you, exactly, all this
- 15:37gray in my beard. And tonight at dinner with my kids, they're they're
- 15:41saying something, they're in their moods and stuff like that. You know,
- 15:43they're preteen moods. And I just actually put my head in my hands and
- 15:48I was like, now you know why my hair is so gray? And
- 15:52they started laughing. I was like, well, at least I got you
- 15:54to laugh. There you go, yes, not right, you need to
- 15:58do that, or you can do the Vince McMahon, you can go exactly.
- 16:04Well, Lenn, how about we we we we go with our first
- 16:10episode ever here? How about if we h how about if we play that
- 16:12here for everybody? How about that? Let's do it? Yeah, that
- 16:18would be interesting to listen to from like, I'm sure it's gonna be just
- 16:22a stumbling, bumbling messy two people that don't know what they're doing. Oh
- 16:26not that we do right, even the first fives right, but the first
- 16:30five minutes the cringe factor, it is gonna be high for everyone. I'm
- 16:33just letting you know. I'm not manipulating the audio. We're gonna keep everything
- 16:38as it is, or I should say as it was. We're gonna keep
- 16:42everything. The music is a little high, just to let everybody know.
- 16:47Music is a little high. As Lenn and I are talking at first until
- 16:49we faded out, But yeah, it's Lena and I had no idea what
- 16:53we were doing, but boy has some fun conversations. We did absolutely all
- 16:59right, let's get to it. Episode one of the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast
- 17:03show coming your way, Lenna, any final thoughts before we get to it,
- 17:07buddy, No, it's just been it's been a really really fun ride.
- 17:11All right, sounds good. Let's get to episode one right now.
- 17:37All right, you are listening to the Philadelphia Sports Table. I am Jeff
- 17:45and um here along with my co host Lenn. Hello, how are you
- 17:48all right? It's our Like I said, it's our first podcast episode,
- 17:52and what we are going to be doing from here on out on a weekly
- 17:56basis is giving you Philadelphia sports news. We're gonna be talking Philadelphia sports,
- 18:03whether it's players, owners, just various news. I don't know anything else
- 18:08to add to that one. Well, this is our first time doing this,
- 18:11so we're going to try to do all that and give you as little
- 18:14dead air as possible as little dead air. Yeah, no guarantees exactly.
- 18:18So the format of the podcast episodes, what we're gonna do is go through
- 18:22some general news. I mean, and it's not necessarily going to be general
- 18:26Philadelphia sports news, but it's going to be simply general sporting news, and
- 18:32then we're gonna get into what we're gonna be putting on the table for the
- 18:36particular episode. So what we're gonna do is get into general news. And
- 18:41I've said that how many times now? Yeah, I think they get it.
- 18:45Yeah, of course they do. So we're on the table for this
- 18:49episode on the Philadelphia Sports Table. We're gonna be talking the Eagles draft and
- 18:55we're also going to be talking about the very very mediocre Philadelphia Philly season thus
- 19:02far. It's it's early in the season. It's a little rough, a
- 19:07little rough right now, but it's early in the season. Um, thank
- 19:11god for Chase Utley. But yeah, okay, So getting into some general
- 19:15news. Uh, some may have heard out there, some may not have
- 19:18heard that Major League Baseball is creating a task force on diversity. I mean,
- 19:23this is just genius from Bud Sealing. I mean genius. What do
- 19:29you think do you think? Well, no, I'm pretty sure anybody that
- 19:33loves baseball at all can't wait for him to be done his commissioner, thank
- 19:40god, thank god he's doing this commission or of this task force. I
- 19:44guess on diversity. I mean for me, I listen, of course,
- 19:48diversity is important. Of course it is. And I'm somebody who is very
- 19:52much a proponent of having as much diversity as we can in whatever profession it
- 19:56is out there. I don't care if you're an accountant. I don't care
- 20:00if you know you're a garbage haller. I don't care if you're playing professional
- 20:03sports. But I do have a little bit of an issue with this because
- 20:07there's a task force. Okay, why doesn't Bud see a leg Why doesn't
- 20:11his office, his executive offices just come out and say, you know what
- 20:15I am, He's take the initiative. I am going to set up educational
- 20:18programming, you know, throughout various schools, in various school districts throughout the
- 20:23United States. It's what Major League Baseball is going to do. Why does
- 20:26he need a task force to do this? Well? I kind of wonder
- 20:30is the goal of this task force? Is it to get players, like
- 20:36more more African American players in sport or is it in higher up in you
- 20:40know, management, that kind of thing managers. I think it's more just
- 20:44the sports, you know. I think it's more the sport it's said,
- 20:45and it is a problem. I mean the article that you reference, it
- 20:48looked like it said maybe eight percent of you know, professional baseball players are
- 20:52African American, which is, you know, way way less than cocasions.
- 20:56It's a lois since nineteen fifty. Yeah, lois since nineteen fifty line,
- 21:00And you know, a lot has happened with regard to diversity in these decades.
- 21:04So, I don't know, I don't know what's your opinion on it.
- 21:07Like I said, I'm not a big fan of the task Force simply
- 21:11because I think we need more leadership from bud Seal, which I don't think
- 21:14we're gonna get anyway. Well, I mean, I mean they they have,
- 21:17you know, tried programs in the past, the RBIUM to get baseball
- 21:21going in the inner cities. That program, that's a good point, has
- 21:25already been implemented. Um. It comes to a point where you wonder how
- 21:29much you know you can do. Um. Baseball is a sport that takes
- 21:33a little bit of money to get into where it's not available in the inner
- 21:37cities. I mean, you have, like basketball, all you need is
- 21:41a ball on hoop, that's all you need, right. Um. So
- 21:42I think a lot of you know, low income you know areas, they're
- 21:47going to gravitate towards that because there's just um, there's less that you have
- 21:52to spend and get into it. That's a good point. It really is.
- 21:53I mean, you know, maybe bud Seal League throws a few million
- 21:56here, a few million there. You know, after a while, it
- 21:59adds up to someone. Well, and that's the thing. I would think
- 22:02that that was basically what the RBI program does, right. Um. I
- 22:07mean I kind of figured that they you know, do sponsorship for teams,
- 22:11um, you know, provide equipment, um, things of that nature.
- 22:14Uh, those those efforts, I mean, you know, it shows I
- 22:17mean there's still not a lot. I mean I look at the Phillies sometimes
- 22:21and to me, it seems like they have a lot more of African American
- 22:23players than you know, most teams. Absolutely. You know you see it
- 22:27with with Don Brown, with Ryan Howard, with Jimmy Rollins, Mayberry.
- 22:32Um. So, I mean, but not a lot of not a lot
- 22:34of teams are like that. I mean there's uh, there's probably teams out
- 22:38there that maybe have one or two and that's about it. It's only about
- 22:41eight percent. I mean, yeah, like you said, it's only about
- 22:42eight percent, Okay. I mean they need to find other ways to to
- 22:45kind of figure out how to get the African American community involved in baseball.
- 22:49It's good at done it's good at done. All right. Well, next,
- 22:52what we have and what we want to talk about is, uh,
- 22:56the NFL and the concussion issue. Um. Just this past week, US
- 23:02District court basically delayed a ruling on the National Football League's attempt to dismiss more
- 23:08than two hundred cases that were brought believe it or not by nearly four thousand,
- 23:12two hundred retired players. So I don't know, Len, what do
- 23:17you what do you think about the concussion issue? I mean, I mean,
- 23:21do we have to play sides here? I mean, do we got
- 23:22to play sides NFL vers um? No? I mean it's it's kind of
- 23:26tough because the players have their opinion. They they only know one way to
- 23:30play the game right, um, and and that's full out. And you
- 23:33can get injured if you, you know, kind of slow up a bit,
- 23:37you can injure yourself doing that. Their habitants as a player is doing
- 23:40that. So from the player perspective, I understand, um, But also
- 23:44from the league perspective, they have to watch out because these lawsuits. I
- 23:48mean, it's amazing to think that maybe someday something could take the NFL out
- 23:52of business because such a financial monster. But I mean, if all these
- 23:56lawsuits keep happening, I mean, yeah, the NFL was they kind of
- 24:00have to look out for themselves. They they could stand to lose a lot.
- 24:03They're talking about forty two hundred players. I mean that's yeah, that's
- 24:07all. I mean that it's a huge number. That's ridiculous. Yeah,
- 24:11it really is. But I mean, from my perspective on this, the
- 24:15players do know what they're getting into. I mean, they decide that they're
- 24:18going to enter the draft or they try obviously they try to be a walk
- 24:22on. Uh, but they know what they're getting into. Yeah, and
- 24:26you hear you hear players say that. Um, even when they when they
- 24:30complain about how they're getting fined for hits or something. I mean that you'll
- 24:33hear them say, I know what I'm getting into. I know that.
- 24:37You know, I'm going to live X amount of years and that's maybe ten
- 24:41or twenty years less than the average person. And I'm okay with that because
- 24:45this is going to allow me to set up my family for you know,
- 24:48generations down the road. Right. I Mean one of the faces uh this
- 24:51past week has been Dorsey Levin's obviously former Green Bay Packer and the former Philadelphia
- 24:56Eagle. Yeah, he basically said that he knew there would be some aches
- 25:00and pains along the way. But you know, well, he said he
- 25:04signed up for it, and that's fine. But not being able to remember
- 25:10things in life, not being able to remember two years ago, five years
- 25:15ago, ten years ago, he says he didn't sign up for that.
- 25:18I think he does have a point there as well. He does, No,
- 25:21I'm playing both sides. He does. But it's one of those things
- 25:22where you're like, I'm okay, that's going to be an issue someday,
- 25:26and I'm not going to worry about it, and you don't worry about it
- 25:30until it's time to pay the piper, and then nobody wants to make that
- 25:33payment. And that's kind of where that is now. Yep, all right,
- 25:37Well next what we have here, and I don't know, this is
- 25:41a tough one. Danny Briere Philadelphia Flyers. I mean, I think we're
- 25:45going to be seeing the last of Danny Briere. I really do. Would.
- 25:49I would definitely agree with that. I believe from the new CBA,
- 25:53each team gets two contracts to amnesty, and I think we all know it's
- 25:59probably gonna be Brere and Briz Gailov, which I know you're not h you're
- 26:03not crying over. He could seriously, he could fall off a ship and
- 26:08just into the Atlantic and I'd honestly be fine with it. I actually,
- 26:14you know what this year, um, and I'm not you know, gonna
- 26:15stick up for him because last year he please, he was an abomination.
- 26:18He has played a lot better this year to me, as far as Briz
- 26:22Gael played better this year then last year. Absolutely well, yeah then last
- 26:26year. But the problem the level of play though, the problem ridiculous with
- 26:30the Flyers. And this is something that when when we eventually, you know,
- 26:34come June, when the NFL drafted or NHL draft is sorry, we'll
- 26:38talk about it, um, because they will have a high pick. They
- 26:41need to start getting young defenseman, quality defenseman because they have chemo teaming in
- 26:48is hanging on by a thread. Mazarros is always hurt. You have a
- 26:52bunch of minor league guys in their Coburns, all right, but yeah,
- 26:55I mean they're they're defensive corps. They tried for Shay Webber in the off
- 26:57season and it didn't work out, right, Um, that definitely needs an
- 27:02upgrade. But as far as Brier, I mean, I will you know,
- 27:06I'll miss him. I mean he's a good player. The playoffs,
- 27:08well yeah, he always mean he didn't really do much in the regular season
- 27:11I mean, coming up huge in the playoffs all the time. Mean,
- 27:14who knows when they're going to get back to the playoffs. Well, won't
- 27:15be this year and might not be next year. Yeah, I'm not expecting
- 27:19it for quite a long period of time. You also have to look at
- 27:22the fact that he was a leader in the locker room too, with a
- 27:25lot of the young players. And I think with any sport, I don't
- 27:29care if it's hockey, I don't care if it's soccer, I don't care
- 27:30if it's t ball, I mean you need certain leaders. Sure, I
- 27:33don't know about t ball. I don't know why I just said t ball.
- 27:37I don't know. I never played t ball. So I played t
- 27:38ball. I was Okay, that's embarrassing. You should have gone straight to
- 27:41the little league. I really should have. Yeah. So, anyway,
- 27:45I think Danny Brier, it's a tough situation and we're gonna see the end
- 27:48of his career in Philly. I think, um, yeah, definitely,
- 27:52um And you know it is a shame, but I don't really know that
- 27:56they have too many older players. To be honest with you, Um,
- 27:59I think the Jerry is still out on Cloth Drew as a captain rum because
- 28:03I see a lot of games where they're they I hear the seem cool it
- 28:07all the time. We didn't play a full sixty minutes. Well, you
- 28:10know that's on you guys, absolutely so, and I think it's on Drew
- 28:15to an extent. Now. I think he's a fantastic player. I gotta
- 28:18tell you, he may not be a guy that's that's soft and material.
- 28:21Yeah, I'm sorry, I didn't need to cut you out, but not
- 28:22playing a full sixty minutes and I know we were gonna just initially talk about
- 28:26Brier. But what really pisses me off is the fact that these guys swear
- 28:30to God the other team that they're playing, their opponents could be skating in
- 28:34mud okay, and they still can't score. And there's absolutely no heart on
- 28:38the ice. There isn't no. I don't get it. I really don't
- 28:41get and and they admit to the press that's fine, you know, just
- 28:47if you acknowledge the problem. That's one thing and it's great if you can
- 28:51acknowledge, identify and acknowledge the problem, but if you don't change the behavior,
- 28:55who cares? I mean, what's what's the point? Right? And
- 28:57I guess you know what. That's gonna lead us right in to the next
- 29:00part of the table. Okay, I told you, But we have on
- 29:04the table for this episode Philadelphia Eagles. Okay, exactly what what were you
- 29:10just talking about? If they've acknowledged the problem for so many years? Andy
- 29:12Reid, God bless him. Yeah, but nothing's all Kansas Cities now,
- 29:17Dude, you know me, You know me. I was a huge read
- 29:18deefender. Yeah. Yeah, you hung on with him way longer than I
- 29:22did. I checked out on his UH on his coaching career a long time
- 29:26before. You. Well, you know, we we're gonna get into the
- 29:30draft here now. We're gonna try to see what's gone on over the course
- 29:36of the past few years and then kind of look and see where the Eagles
- 29:38are gonna go, you know where. That's what we're gonna try to take
- 29:41you guys through. We're gonna try to take you through not just the first
- 29:45round and analyze that, but get into the second, third, fourth,
- 29:48etc. So, Um, basically, what we're gonna do is just take
- 29:52a really short break here and uh and then we'll be back in just a
- 29:56second. Okay, And I just want to tell you the music that you
- 29:59were listening to and that you have been listening to on this podcast episode and
- 30:03what you're gonna be listening to for weeks to come is a guy named Dan
- 30:07Caravetta. Guy is amazing. Okay, it's a great musician. I like
- 30:12it's yeah, especially I mean, if you're a metal fan, it is.
- 30:15There's very good riffs in there. So yeah, all right, we'll
- 30:18be back in just a second. Okay, enjoy some of mister Dan Caravetta.
- 30:48All right. Um, so we're gonna we're gonna get right into the
- 30:51table here on the table right now, you're gonna be talking Philadelphia Eagles,
- 30:56NFL Draft, and uh, I guess Lynn, why don't we why don't
- 31:00we kind of take everybody back a little bit in terms of the first round.
- 31:03Okay, I'm gonna have memory lane. Huh Yeah. Honestly, some
- 31:07of these are not bad. Well I don't know. Uh yeah, some
- 31:11of them aren't bad. But there's one there's one that honestly sticks out at
- 31:18me as being Andy Reid's best. Okay, seriously, well there's two I
- 31:22should say. Okay, Well, I mean, but first before we actually
- 31:25get into Andy Reid's old drafting style and drafting ways, you know, I
- 31:29mean, it's important to say that Chip Kelly, this is first draft ever,
- 31:33you know, and he needs to make a statement. And I have
- 31:37some concerns about what type of statement that he is going to make. Again,
- 31:41look at Andy Reid. He picked Donovan McNabb his very first draft,
- 31:45second pick overall, you know, and it's gonna take more than one player
- 31:49to turn around a four and twelve team. So especially in a sport like
- 31:53football where you depend on that many players. This isn't the NBA where if
- 31:57you get one superstar you're the playoffs every year. Exactly. You can have
- 32:00a superstar quarterback, but if the rest of your team is awful, it's
- 32:04not gonna matter exactly. So I mean, let's go I mean, how
- 32:07far do you want to go back here? What do you want to do?
- 32:07You want to go back? Should we start with the Donovan mcnabbier or
- 32:12yeah? Why not? Okay, I mean, obviously we know how valuable
- 32:15of a pick that was, And I don't care. I know there's gonna
- 32:17be haters out there. I know there's gonna be people saying Donovan stunk,
- 32:22you didn't do anything. You know what he actually did, people seriously did.
- 32:25He did a lot, and he kept the team. There's a lot
- 32:30of areas in his career where he never progressed as a player the way he
- 32:32should have. And I had my gripes with him the fact that he kind
- 32:36of abandoned the running game when it was a weapon for him and it was
- 32:39something that defense has had to account for and and he just took it off
- 32:44the table. But you can't deny he's he's the best quarterback in Eagles history.
- 32:49He is, absolutely is. I think if you pull the majority of
- 32:52the fan base, they'll give you a different ance out I would think.
- 32:55So. You know, the balls in the ground that he was throwing towards
- 32:59the end of his career, Yes, that was one of the things that
- 33:00he never yes fixed it was rough, you know, But like I said,
- 33:06he kept the team relevant for a decade, kept the team relevant for
- 33:09a decade. Yes, they got to a super Bowl, the one that
- 33:12championship, that draft. If you remember, there was a lot of quarterbacks
- 33:16taken in the first round and it was a landmine. His Couch was number
- 33:20one overall, Achilles Smith was number three overall. Yeah, you had Dante
- 33:23Colepepper had a couple good years but then he flamed out. You had Kade
- 33:27McNown All those guys were top twenty picks in the draft. So out of
- 33:30those five, who would you rather have? Absolutely so, Yeah, all
- 33:34those clowns doing nothing, did nothing. Yeah, you know McNab kept him
- 33:37relevant. Okay, let's get into the next pick, two thousand Okay,
- 33:42I actually liked him, maybe for a year or two, Corey Simon.
- 33:45He was serviceable. He wasn't great. Um, I think you know,
- 33:49it's tough. You might want a little bit more out of the number six
- 33:52pick of the draft. Yeah, but you know he was a serviceable player.
- 33:55But the next year two thousand and one, I mean, you can't
- 33:59you can't get you can't get any better than this guy. I mean this
- 34:01guy, you know he had, he had fake championship belts, he loved.
- 34:06Oh he really was. I mean Freddie Mitchell, good old Freddie Mitchell
- 34:09from UCLA. Yeah, I don't really, I don't really think we need
- 34:14to get too much into his career exactly. If you look at his uh,
- 34:19it was just terrible. He was just terrible. The guy had the
- 34:22size, but you know what, his attitude just stunk. It really did.
- 34:25I got, Okay, the next guy, Like I was saying,
- 34:29there's this is the second guy I was talking about that I really think helped
- 34:32take the Eagles kind of to the next level, especially from the defensive perspective.
- 34:37Uh. Twenty six pick and the two thousand and two draft was Lito
- 34:39Shepherd. I mean he was a difference maker. He was a playmaker.
- 34:44Yeah. Um, he was one of the better quarterbacks in recent history.
- 34:47And if you look at that draft in general, I mean not to get
- 34:51off the topic of number one picks, but look at them. The first
- 34:53four picks of that draft. You had Lito Shepherd, Michael Lewis who had
- 34:58a couple of good years as a safety, Sheldon Brown who was another good
- 35:00corner, and then you had Westbrook Rum And I missed those days yea.
- 35:06And of the time I remember watching that draft and after the first three picks
- 35:10that they made, just thinking what are they only going to address one part
- 35:15of the team this year? I mean, you kind of wonder if they're
- 35:17doing overload. But I mean, you really can't argue with those picks that
- 35:21that uh that Reid made there. I just and well, and I'm going
- 35:23to talk about it later, but I love the cornerback picks. That,
- 35:28yeah, I love I loved it because you know what, especially these days,
- 35:31the league is such a passing league anymore, and cornerback is become is
- 35:36going to become a more imperative position, I think down the road, and
- 35:40it's one that, um, should we talk about it more in this show?
- 35:45Um? I think the Eagles, despite the free agency pickups, still
- 35:49need to address they do, they absolutely do. All right, next two
- 35:52thousand and three, let's kind of go through these because some of these are
- 35:54just two thousand and three. Number fifteen, Jerome McDougall gunshot good old.
- 36:04I hear at Jerome McDougal's name, and I just hear a fart sound in
- 36:07the background. That's what I hear him. I think we traded up for
- 36:10him. I think you're right, which is a disaster. Oh good.
- 36:15And then and then we have disaster number two here. Sixteen pick of the
- 36:21two thousand and four draft was Sean Andrews. Okay, he was not bad.
- 36:23He made a Pro Bowl, right he was. He was a legitimately
- 36:27good player. He did make a Pro Bowl. Maybe two, I'm not
- 36:30sure. Um, he just became one of those guys that was more interested
- 36:36in everything else except for playing his position, his job. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:42yeah, Well I think he became big into music and stuff like that.
- 36:45And that's right was he was he rapping on stuff. I think he
- 36:49was trying to be a producer. It was he I think, So I
- 36:52could be wrong, he might be right up he client he really became a
- 36:57clown. I'll never forget being up at the Eagles training camp and everybody was
- 37:00wondering after he had a great season. He had a great season, everybody's
- 37:02wondering, is he gonna I forget what year it was off top of my
- 37:05head, but is Sean Andrew's gonna show up? Guy didn't show up.
- 37:07He ended up turning out to be a head case. And I thought after
- 37:12they picked up his brother, yeah, okay, well they did this to
- 37:15kind of maybe get him back in the fold and bust that one. Maybe
- 37:17this will this will kind of get him back on track. But it did
- 37:21nothing. Nope, Nope, next one, you know what, Mike Patterson
- 37:23in two thousand and five that that was a good pick. Yeah, they
- 37:28got some, they got some decent and especially you look at where they're picking.
- 37:30I mean that was the year after the Super Bowl. Yeah, so
- 37:35they're picking thirty first. So at thirty first, you know you're you're not
- 37:37going to get an elite, elite level player, right. Um, he
- 37:42did a lot of good They got a lot of serviceable years at him.
- 37:45So I have no problem with that pick. Fourteenth pick of the two thousand
- 37:49and six draft. Now, I gotta tell you I don't. I just
- 37:52didn't like it. He was on the team for too many years. Broderick
- 37:54Bunkley from Florida State his uh, if I remember correctly, his first year
- 37:58was a disaster. The second year he actually played fairly well, and then
- 38:04I think they got one good year out of him. I think after that
- 38:07he he kind of fell off. He just never seemed to work really hard
- 38:10at training camp and all the years that I was going to training camp,
- 38:13and by the way, extremely sad about the fact that they're not going to
- 38:15be at Lehigh. That's for another time in the show. But you know,
- 38:17Bunkley never really Yeah, he just never seemed like he was really working
- 38:22hard. He was. He was always yapping on the sidelines with the guys,
- 38:27which is fine, you're gonna do that, bar, Yeah, you
- 38:29kind of have tomaraderie. I mean yeah, still still, I don't know
- 38:34where I'm going with this, to be honest with you, but Bunkley stunk.
- 38:37I don't. I don't think I hated even in retrospect, I don't
- 38:39think I hated that pick as much as you as you seem to. Yeah,
- 38:42I'm not a fan of that pick. Well, we look at two
- 38:45thousand and seven. Two thousand and eight, Birds did not have a first
- 38:47round draft pick, so let's just go down to two thousand and nine,
- 38:52which, okay, maybe three great first first round picks. Jeremy Macklin.
- 38:57I mean, the guy is solid, and he's a workhorse. The guy
- 39:00is a workhorse. He loves working out in the off season. He really
- 39:04does. Yeah, I think he's um. Well, I don't think I'm
- 39:07making an earth shattering statement here, but I find him to be a lot
- 39:10more dependable than Uh. He doesn't have DeShawn Jackson's ceiling, but he's a
- 39:15lot more dependable, I think than DeShawn Jackson. And the attitude too,
- 39:19I mean, yeah, you gotta have you know, that's the thing about
- 39:22the NFL. You have to have a decent attitude if you are going to
- 39:25not only excel at your position, okay, but if you're going to allow
- 39:30your team to excel to I mean, DeShawn, I love him, I
- 39:34really do. And wide receivers are a different breed to begin with. They're
- 39:37they're the prima donnas. I mean you look at guys like him, Guys
- 39:40like Terrell Owens, guys like Chad Johnson, who I refer to, I
- 39:45refuse to refer to by by his other name that he went with for a
- 39:47couple of years. Um, but yeah, oh my god, I almost
- 39:52forgot garbage. Wide receivers in general are kind of nuts. But uh yeah,
- 39:58and he doesn't take it to that extent that that I think a lot
- 40:00of people do. But compared to Maclin, yeah, he's kind of insane.
- 40:02Macklin stellar and I you know what, arguably could be the number one
- 40:07receiver on the team. I don't know. The guy produces, He's got
- 40:10the touchdowns year after a year. I don't know, all right. Twenty
- 40:15thirteenth pick Brandon Graham do one of our buddies, one of our buddies,
- 40:19Eric he is he could not stand him. Well, believe me. Are
- 40:24you not a fan either? No, And it's it's kind of weird.
- 40:29I think he had a I mean, he really was showing a lot at
- 40:30the end of this year, and I think it's because they kind of gave
- 40:32him a little leeway. I do agree with you, and I think that
- 40:36he has the opportunity because I think they're really going to expand his role.
- 40:39I think he's going to have every opportunity to prove that he's not a bust.
- 40:45But to me, he's a bust. And I'm gonna tell you why
- 40:47they traded up for that pick they did At the time, they needed a
- 40:51safety, and I said, this is awesome. They're gonna get Earl Thomas,
- 40:54who's now a great safety in Seattle. Yeah, and they took him.
- 40:59Not only did they pass on Old Thomas, but a couple of picks
- 41:01later was Jason Pierre Paul. So if you wanted a defensive end, you
- 41:06could have had Jason Pierre Paul. So to me, the thing with Brandon
- 41:09Graham isn't so much what he's done what he hasn't done, but who we
- 41:14could have had. And I know you can do the hindsight thing with literally
- 41:16any draft pick, but this one really hurts. And when you look at
- 41:21the Eagles secondary, they could have had ear Old Thomas. I really think
- 41:25that this pick set the Eagles defense back a little bit. I would make
- 41:30a couple of years. Yeah, so he's he's on the hot seat as
- 41:34far as I'm concerned. He really needs to bring it this year. He's
- 41:37got a lot of versatility and I think he's gonna show that this year.
- 41:39I'm holding out hope and I actually think I'm I'll say this and I might
- 41:43get crucified later, but I'm high on him. I am. Hey,
- 41:46Look, I hope you're right. I root for the team too, so
- 41:50I genuinely hope you're right. Um, I know you're gonna crucify if Yeah,
- 41:55if he stinks, yeah, I'll be all over you. But um,
- 41:59I mean he's he's also facing a log jam and this is something that
- 42:01we may talk about when we get into um this year's draft prospects. But
- 42:06with the switch to a three four, you know, if you look at
- 42:07him, you've got him there as an outside linebacker now because I think he's
- 42:13too small to play d end I think, so, um, you've got
- 42:15Trent Cole, you signed Connor Barwin, you have Vinny Curry. Still,
- 42:19it's tough to know what this scheme is gonna look like, and then they
- 42:21might draft somebody. So right, okay, all right, twenty eleven,
- 42:24This, this Danny Watkins pick just stinks in a row of boy And it's
- 42:30Howie too, isn't it? How how we did? How we do the
- 42:32Danny Watkins pick? Well, according to Howie, uh, this year coming
- 42:37up is going to be the first draft that he had that he has control
- 42:39over. Right, He he had a lot of say though I think didn't
- 42:44he have a lot to say in the Danny Watkins pick? Or was that
- 42:45mainly read? It's it's hard to say. Um, I have a tough
- 42:50time believing that Reid didn't have final say in any pick up until this year.
- 42:53So I actually kind of do believe Roseman to an extent, right,
- 42:58But it just struck me as funny that, Um, not long after Reid
- 43:01was fired, he Roseman pretty much came out and said that was all Andy
- 43:07stuff. Those are his drafts. Okay, Well, I mean and then
- 43:09last year we had Fletcher Cox, which they traded up for. I like
- 43:14it too. I like him. Um, dude's gonna be great. I
- 43:16think he Um, you know, he was drafted as a defensive tackle.
- 43:21I think with the switch to three four, Um, you know, you
- 43:23want your ends in a three four to be a little bit bigger. So
- 43:25I think you're going to see him move out the defensive end. I don't
- 43:30think he's gonna be a Broderick Bunkley type. I really don't. I know,
- 43:32he's technically a d tackle. I don't think he's going to be that
- 43:36broad Rick Bunkley. I think we're going to see production out of him in
- 43:37the years to come. Yeah. Now, I'm I'm actually pretty high on
- 43:40on Fletcher Cox. I mean, Danny Watkins, He's another guy I think,
- 43:45like like Brandon Graham, He's a lot to prove this year, and
- 43:47I think this is his last chance because I I have expected him to be
- 43:52gone during the off season. I was pretty surprised he's still on the team.
- 43:55He was his ass off I lee high. He worked asshof. You
- 44:00should have seen him out there, seriously, he worked as asshole. I
- 44:02mean you you went there a lot more than I ever. Ye. So
- 44:06yeah, loved it up there, taking the kids up there. Family had
- 44:10It's heartbreaking. It's stinks, it really does. Honestly, I don't know.
- 44:14I don't know if I'm gonna go down deal with Broad Street stuff just
- 44:17for training camp. Yeah, what's the setup gonna be? Likeright, we'll
- 44:22get into that. Yeah, we'll get into that later. Okay, let's
- 44:23talk about the draft. Can't believe it. Cannot believe it's a couple of
- 44:28days away. Seriously, it seems like super Bowl Champs Ravens just seems like
- 44:32it was just last week. Anyway. Um, like I said, you
- 44:36know, Chip Kelly's first draft, He's really going to have to make an
- 44:40impact with this, and not just not just for the team, He's got
- 44:44to make an impact with the fans too. He needs to change the direction.
- 44:49I think he's already doing it. So you want to see flash out
- 44:52of this first round pick? Is that what I'm picking up from you?
- 44:54Or here's what? Here's this the first round pick? I want vision him,
- 45:00That's what I want. I want vision. I want something long term.
- 45:04Okay, Okay, so let's talk about what they need. They need
- 45:07offensive lineman right, they need a corner back, they need a safety,
- 45:13wide receiver, and you know, I argue that they do need a running
- 45:16back in a quarterback. Okay, why don't Why don't I just say they
- 45:19need every freaking position on the team. From that, I think you've you've
- 45:22covered them all. But uh, I mean running back. I maybe late
- 45:25round, we'll get into it. Yeah, I mean we'll get into a
- 45:29running back. That any running back that they draft is going to be purely
- 45:31deaf because I think between um Shady and Bryce Brown, I think you're looking
- 45:37at their at their two their you know, because pretty much everybody in the
- 45:40NFL goes with a two back system these days. Right, Anybody who has
- 45:43a fantasy team can attest to that. Um, I mean everybody, hopefully
- 45:49everybody knows is listening. Is that Dion lois gone? Yes, done in
- 45:52trade this past manual. He's a linebacker, so I guess he's in the
- 45:57they're bringing him into compete. Yeah, he'll probably be a special teams guy.
- 46:00Yeah, so let's go. If you want to, Lenn, why
- 46:02don't we just kind of go through our picks. Yeah, I'm brown by
- 46:06Brown, I'm interested to um see who um now, honestly, gun to
- 46:10your head, who do you think that they take? UM for with the
- 46:14number four pick? Who do I think they take? Or who do I
- 46:15want them to? Do you think they take? I think they take Eric
- 46:19Fisher? Yeah, give me both. Now who do you want them to
- 46:22take? D Milliner? Okay, I really do you know what? All
- 46:23right? D Milliner, It's what I talked about, you know, just
- 46:28a few minutes ago with the Lito Shepherd pick Sheldon Brownpett in this division.
- 46:34Okay, you have Eli Manning, you have Tony Romo, you know,
- 46:37guy guy can be inconsistent at times. Yeah, you know. And you
- 46:40have which is arguably going to be the guy who eats up the Eagles for
- 46:45the next decade with um RG three. Yeah, okay, we need solid
- 46:52cornerbacks and we do not have them. And the busts of the past couple
- 46:57years that needs to be rectified. We need another leader Shepherd, we need
- 47:00another Bobby Tailor, you know, we need another Troy Vincent type. I
- 47:05do think de Milliner is that person. I really do. I I would
- 47:09agree with that um I personally, I do agree with you that I do
- 47:14think that they go Eric Fisher. Uh number four overall, and I understand
- 47:17I would be happy with with Um with either Fisher or a Milliner. Those
- 47:22are probably my top two guys at this point. And I'll say this,
- 47:23I think Fisher, if you're looking for a vision and a long term pick,
- 47:28I think he fits that bill because you have Jason Peters Um who is
- 47:31great um but you know he's coming off, and Achilles and he's a big
- 47:36him. And Todd Harriman's too, don't Harman's is getting old? Yeah,
- 47:38So I mean you need to protect your quarterback, especially you know in a
- 47:42system where you know the quarterback may be moving around a little bit more than
- 47:45than usual. But we can't have our secondary getting eaten up like it has
- 47:47been. We really did we had, And I get who are the top
- 47:51corners whilst they were supposedly it's pick your poison, Yeah, I think,
- 47:54I mean, which which direction do you want to go? I would be
- 47:59fine with either direction that they went there. Okay? Could d Milliner be
- 48:02somebody who's a leader in the locker room down the road? Who knows?
- 48:05But you know, I don't know enough about him as a person. I
- 48:08mean, I know he's got good size. I know that he ran like
- 48:12a four to three seven if the combine forty time. He seems to be,
- 48:15you know, a good cover corner, so he'll definitely get you what
- 48:20you need. As far as locker room presence, I don't know whether he
- 48:22brings that or not, right, I don't know. I'm hoping it's d
- 48:25Milliner. I got a feeling and that it's going to be Eric Fisher if
- 48:30if dude, if they go, Geno Smith, if they go, he's
- 48:34the one guy I don't want. I don't want them to do it.
- 48:36And I'm concerned due to the cap room they have because you know, I
- 48:39mean, we're gonna learn a lot from Chip Kelly on this first pick.
- 48:43We really are well, and it's at least it's something different. I mean,
- 48:46if we were you know, the last couple of years of the read
- 48:49regime to me work groundhog Day, you knew what you were going to get.
- 48:52Um nothing, nothing was going to change. So this is at least
- 48:58different. Okay, this is a different regime. They're gonna take things,
- 49:00you know, possibly in a different direction. Maybe they won't, but at
- 49:04least it's something where you kind of have to sit back a little bit and
- 49:07go all right, Well, Let's see what these guys are gonna do,
- 49:08right, Okay, I mean who do you have for the second round?
- 49:12Who do you have? Okay, who do you have them taking? Who
- 49:15would you like them to take? I mean, for me, like I
- 49:19said, I hope they take d Milliner. If they were to take D
- 49:21Milliner in the first I have them taking obviously an offensive lineman in the second
- 49:24round. I'm hoping Brendan Williams from North Carolina, guy six foot six,
- 49:30three hundred and eighteen pounds, or the another offensive tackle, Lane Johnson from
- 49:35Oklahoma. He's six six, three h three. I got news for you,
- 49:37Lane Johnson ain't ain't making it out of the top ten. He's he's
- 49:42already allowed them out. Really have him going at seven, is he?
- 49:45Yeah? Lane Johnson is a guy that is in the running for the number
- 49:51four pick. Okay, Yeah, I missed that. Yeah, everything I've
- 49:54seen, um well, I completely missed it. I mean, look,
- 50:00it's a it's a mock draft, and you could read fifty mock drafts and
- 50:02get fifty different opinions. I'm sure there are people that that have him,
- 50:07um, you know, outside of the top ten. But I guarantee he
- 50:09goes in the first round unless he you know, knocks over a convenience store
- 50:14between now and the draft. Um. Actually, uh, I think um
- 50:20one in the second round. I mean if they if they go with Milliner
- 50:23in the UH in the first uh and they wanted to go offensive tackle.
- 50:28Um. There's a guy at a Florida State Meteick Watson who um is.
- 50:30I'm starting to see him go up into maybe the laid half of the first
- 50:34round, but at least there's a chance he might be there in the second.
- 50:37Um. I think he's a guy that you may be looking at in
- 50:39the second round. Um. If they don't get him, um, it
- 50:45would be a great pick. I do think it would be a good pick
- 50:46if they were to go Fisher first round, then second round. I'm a
- 50:51little bit scared that they might go EJ. Manuel Who I'm He's a quarterback
- 50:53who you know, seems to fit Kelly's system. I'm not too high on
- 50:58him apparent. I watched the ESPN the gruten um shows that he does with
- 51:01all the quarterbacks rum and he was getting on manual for his He kind of
- 51:06carries the ball around like a loaf of bread, so he's probably prone to
- 51:09fumbles. I don't know about his accuracy. I gotta tell you right now.
- 51:13I hope they don't take a quarterback. I hope they don't take a
- 51:16quarterback. Would be that I would be completely fine with that. I think
- 51:20it'd be a waste of a pick. I really do. Yeah. I
- 51:22would like to see them um with that second round pick. UM. I
- 51:27would like to see them address the secondary. UM. I think Eric Reid
- 51:31at LSU is a safety. He's a guy that that is going to be
- 51:35around. You're going to have a few options there. UM. One thing
- 51:37that I would consider, UM, especially if you could get it, because
- 51:43apparently this you know, draft has some depth to it is there's there are
- 51:47teams out there that need offensive line help that won an offensive tackle that would
- 51:52be willing to move up into the eagle spot. You might be able to
- 51:54flip flop. And I'm looking at um San Diego at eleven and Miami at
- 51:59twelve, where if you can flip flip flap spots in first round, yeah,
- 52:02first round here and and get a second round pick as well, because
- 52:06then you're still drafting at eleven or twelve, Well, yeah you can.
- 52:09You can still get a good player. I see where you're coming from,
- 52:13and I see where you're coming from. Pick. I just it's not like
- 52:16you're you're moving from four to like twenty four. I mean, it's you
- 52:20know, there's a certain it's not even ten spots. I don't know.
- 52:22Maybe maybe I'm thinking, maybe I'm thinking childish about this, but there's a
- 52:27certain excitement also about the fourth pick. Absolutely, you're talking logical, but
- 52:31no, believe, I understand where you're coming from, because if you look
- 52:34at the Phillies draft coming up, they have the sixteenth pick. I can't
- 52:37remember the last time they actually had a first round pick right right like in
- 52:39the in the top twenty. So believe I can't wait for the Major League
- 52:43Baseball Draft for the same reason. There is something about having a high pick
- 52:46that you know, you get excited about. So I get it, yeah
- 52:50and in a yeah, yeah, I don't know. I just I hope
- 52:55they don't I hope they take d Milliner fourth pick. Um, I don't
- 53:00know. I do like your second round picks, though, I think their
- 53:01second round picks are pretty solid right there. I think it would be a
- 53:05lot of help getting into the third round. Do you want to go third
- 53:07round? Now? Um? I I would really like to see them get
- 53:13a nose tackle here. Yeah, that's I mean, that's I I like
- 53:17Isaac Uh soap How do you say his last name? I have no I
- 53:22think it's soapoaga. I'm like pronouncing him as the letters come, and I
- 53:27could be totally off there. I mean, it seems like the guy,
- 53:29too many vows might be past his prime. You know, he only played
- 53:32in thirty one percent of the snaps, you know, twenty twelve last year.
- 53:37I really would like to see him get John Jenkins, you know,
- 53:40yeah, and athletic. It's uh, it's funny that you mentioned that name,
- 53:45because when I was writening up my article today. Uh, he is
- 53:49a guy that that stood out to me. He's like three hundred and fifty
- 53:52pounds. He's a beat. He is what you think of when you think
- 53:54of three four nose tackles exactly. He's a big guy, and he takes
- 53:58up space. And I actually, in the scenario that I mentioned to you,
- 54:01where the Eagles happen to get like a trade down to get a second
- 54:05round pick, he's a guy I'm looking at with my second second round pick.
- 54:07Okay, all right, I'm hoping he's there in a third. I'm
- 54:10not sure if he will be, but um, yeah, I agree with
- 54:13you on a nose tackle. You know, I wouldn't have a problem with
- 54:15it. Yeah, I wouldn't have a problem with John Jenkins. Jonathan Hankins
- 54:21out of Ohio State is another nose tackle. He's I think goes about between
- 54:25three twenty and three twenty five. They're gonna need a nose tackle long term.
- 54:30They're really will Isaac. You know, it was a good pick up
- 54:31and he is. He's a good player and he's gonna see some time with
- 54:35the Eagles. I think that they do nose tackle by committee. Um,
- 54:37I think they rotate these guys in and out. You have him, you
- 54:40have Antonio Dixon, and I think that they're gonna pick somebody up in the
- 54:45draft, and I think those three guys you're going to see him rotate.
- 54:49Right It's gonna be a lot of trial, trial and error, I think
- 54:51this year. I mean, I know we're talking about the NFL, we're
- 54:53talking about a professional sports team, but there's gonna be a lot of trial
- 54:55and error or right, just I mean just in terms of time right here,
- 54:59because I know we do you want to kind of get into the Phillies
- 55:00a little bit. Here. We're at about almost at thirty eight thirty nine
- 55:07forty minutes here. So okay, um, fourth round, I have him
- 55:10taken another offensive lineman. I mean, we're talking about offensive linemen. They're
- 55:14deep in this draft. Kyle Long from Oregon, I mean, and he's
- 55:20he's Chip Kelly guy. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see,
- 55:22um, Chip Kelly take some at least one of his former players.
- 55:28Um. I don't think he'll be there at number four, but if Deon
- 55:30Jordan is there at four, you might see the Eagles go after him.
- 55:34Um, I doubt Deon Jordan's going to be there for I don't think he
- 55:37will be there. I'm just throwing it out. Yeah, but um,
- 55:39yeah, yeah I could. I would have no problem with that. He's,
- 55:43uh, who do you have for fourth or for the fourth round?
- 55:46H Are you thinking it's so tough? I mean you can't really, it's
- 55:51project who's gonna be there at that point? The hell I was I was
- 55:54thinking maybe I was looking at another safety Tony Jefferson Okay, Oklahoma. Maybe
- 56:00somebody like Barrett Jones who will give you offensive line depth he's very versatile.
- 56:06Um he played guard and center for the Alabama championship teams. Yeah, so
- 56:09he's a guy that you can look at for a couple different spots on the
- 56:12line. I don't have anybody at safety going in my in my picks.
- 56:15I probably should have, I really, because I mean they need it.
- 56:17I mean, Patrick Chung he's only going to do so much. So anyway,
- 56:22Well, and the other guy they picked up, Kenny Phillips, is
- 56:27a guy that I've always liked, but apparently he has, you know,
- 56:30an issue staying on the field. So if he can't stay healthy, yeah,
- 56:31they are going to need somebody to step in. Yeah, and looks
- 56:35like they've soured on Nate Allen justifiably so. But in disappointment. I was
- 56:38high on him. I was too, I really really was happy with that
- 56:42pick. But yeah, all right, fifth round, you know what,
- 56:45I have him actually going another offensive lineman, I mean, because we have
- 56:50an old offensive line. Well, Peters and Harriman's obviously, and anyway,
- 56:54Hugh Thomas is who I have them taking. I mean the Eagles. He's
- 57:00got experience in both garden tackle and that's what I like. But he's going
- 57:02to require a lot more development. Um, he's got poor footwork unfortunately,
- 57:07but the guy is versatile, and that's what they're gonna need. I think
- 57:10that's what Chip Kelly's gonna need. Yeah, um, I would agree with
- 57:15that. I think you could see them, um just stock up on on
- 57:17depth at offensive line or even a couple of positions for that matter. Yeah.
- 57:22Um, I'm not too Again, I didn't look too far out into
- 57:25like the fifth round to see who they might take, but uh, yeah,
- 57:30I think at that point you're looking at depth picks in the draft.
- 57:32All right, Um, let's uh, let's get into the sixth round here,
- 57:38Okay, I've got him taking an outside linebacker, Ty Powell. This
- 57:42guy, this guy, I was looking looking him up a little bits from
- 57:45Harding University. Dude, it's it's like north of Little Rock, Arkansas.
- 57:52And uh, if the guy does get picked, which I think he will,
- 57:54he's he's gonna be making history as the first player ever drafted out of
- 57:59Harding and third years. So, I mean, the guy's got he's got
- 58:02a lot of speed. The guy's got some versatility as well. I can
- 58:06play outside linebacker, you play, you can play inside as well. So
- 58:10we just need linebacker help. Yeah, we have and we have for a
- 58:14long time. Absolutely. Um. I think that they may look at um
- 58:19tight ends as well. UM. I know that Chip Kelly is a huge
- 58:22fan of using tight ends. They picked up Casey. Um, they have
- 58:24Harbor, they have Selcum, but they might they might look at at somebody
- 58:28young to bring in. Um, who do you have in case? Um?
- 58:31I was looking at the tight end Dion Sims out of Michigan State.
- 58:37Um. And you know, I think a lot of them, the best
- 58:40tight ends are going to be off the board by then. But you know,
- 58:44UM, at that point, I think you're just kind of looking for
- 58:46bodies, right right. I mean in the last round, the seventh round,
- 58:51they got two seventh round picks? No, they got four? Do
- 58:53they have four? Yeah? What the hell have I've been doing? I
- 58:57looked, actually, you know what I thought they had picked. And that's
- 59:00why I kind of I kind of blanked a little bit when Um, when
- 59:04you mentioned the sixth round. People aren't going to listen to this now.
- 59:07I know, right, hey gonna be like, who are these clowns?
- 59:09I don't know how any picks the Eagles. That's why we have post production.
- 59:12That is true. But actually, um, when I looked it up
- 59:15earlier today, I was looking at the at the picks um on ESPN dot
- 59:17com. Rounds one through five they have one pick in of those rounds.
- 59:22Sixth round they have none. Um, seventh round they have four, right,
- 59:24um, because that's I mean, according to Andy, that's how you
- 59:29build championships. Six and I didn't realize it was all right, well,
- 59:31I think one or two of them might be like a compensation pick because there's
- 59:35a bunch of those that are stacked up at the end of that round.
- 59:37Okay, I mean I got him taking a wide receiver and a running back.
- 59:39I think they're we we need a tall wide receiver, and we got
- 59:45Riley Cooper. But I'll tell you right now, he's really not I mean,
- 59:47come on, get what about didn't they pick up a guy A really
- 59:52is Ben I believe from Tampa Bay on a promise there. Yeah, he
- 59:57wants to make an impact. I think that m he's somebody that that you
- 1:00:00might see come in and making a pack because they do have some depth there.
- 1:00:04They have, um, you know, they have Deshaun, they have
- 1:00:07Macklin, they have a Vant who's a good slot receiver, right Riley Cooper
- 1:00:09will get another shot to be that that big red zone guy. Um Maaris
- 1:00:14Johnson, you still have left over Marvin McNutt from Iowa. Um, you
- 1:00:19had yeah. So I mean and then you have Ben So. I mean
- 1:00:22I think a team typically carries what five receivers typically? So I mean so
- 1:00:28yeah, I mean yeah, if you can upgrade it wide receiver, go
- 1:00:30for it. Um. I don't know that it's as immediate to need as
- 1:00:34some other position. What do you want, um, I would like to
- 1:00:37see uh, I mean I like to focus on the area's need. I
- 1:00:42mean I want to see offensive line. I want to see secondary. I
- 1:00:45want to see um, interior, defensive line. Um, you know,
- 1:00:47linebackers. If you want to get a reserve, what if in in well
- 1:00:52they don't have a sixth round pick, but maybe in the fifth round,
- 1:00:54do you take a flyer on homer pick? But maldi, I mean leadership.
- 1:01:00I mean obviously there's the injury. I think he'll be gone. Honestly,
- 1:01:02I think he'll be gone by the seventh. Yeah, I kind of
- 1:01:06yeah, by the seventh, I definitely think so. UM, I think
- 1:01:07I think fourth at late fourth, fifth round, I think you make fifth,
- 1:01:12maybe sixth latest. Um. But but yeah, I mean you're gonna
- 1:01:15get the leadership there. I think you're gonna get production if he can just
- 1:01:17stay on the field and pretty healthy. Absolutely looking at a defensive captain there.
