  I mean, heck, it only took like a couple batters into the first

  inning and I'm seeing people complaining already.

  Guys, look, it was ugly. It was terrible. 7 to one

  Cardinals lose to Los Doyers. Hey, here's the good part.

  It was a nice clean, quick baseball game.

  It was about two hours and I think 23 minutes.

  I was working out earlier and I got in my car, literally turned

  on the car, turned on the radio and heard the first pitch from

  John Rooney and Ricky Horton. And that's a beautiful thing.

  Just the fact that baseball's back.

  I know this game was really ugly, folks.

  It was. I'm not going to sugarcoat it,

  but it's also one game I didn't expect the Cardinals to win this

  game. I didn't expect the Cardinals to

  win this series. The Dodgers are freaking good.

  They do play checkbook baseball. Remember that?

  Remember what Miles Michaelis said?

  Miles Michaelis? Not so good.

  Four and a third innings, seven hits, 5 earned runs, struck out

  allowed, Freddie Freeman and also also Mookie Betts there.

  And it started early. Dodgers scoring 2 in the first,

  three in the third and Miles Michelas gets chased in the 5th

  in and look, we know Miles Michelas.

  He was the Cardinals this year, opening day starter by default

  due to the sunny Gray injury. But still, look on paper.

  On paper, he's their, he's their number two.

  I'm not saying he's going to be their second best pitcher this

  year. It'd be really nice if he was,

  or at least a really dependable 3.

  Last year's numbers were more like a 5, even though he did

  throw a lot of innings last year, over 200, so give him
• 2:18
  credit for that. But Tyler Glass now really,

  really good. He shoved 6 innings and only 81

  pitches, 5 strikeouts, 1 earned run.

  I mean, here's here's the good thing though.

  So literally the only offense from the Cardinals was from the

  one guy that we were all worried about.

  Or at least a lot of people were, me included.

  So I look stupid as well. I know it's one game, but to see

  Paul Goldschmidt swing the bat the way he did coming off a

  really bad spring? Remember, he fell off.

  He fell off last year regular season I think his OPS plus was

  120 that that was a big fall off coming coming off the MVP type

  season. So a guy who's who's older or is

  he 3536. So the fact Paul Goldschmidt 3

  for four hits the bomb he's he's the only offense the Cardinals

  had in this game. But I do think that's big

  because a lot of people were wondering man because look

  sometimes these dudes these dudes age.

  They age quickly and again, I'm not saying Paul Goldschmidt,

  he's he's he's going to have the unbelievable season this year,

  but it's a really good sign to see him with some really good

  swings, really good at bats versus some really good

  pitching, starting with Tyler Glass.

  Now everybody else though, pretty much crap for the

  Cardinals offense. Nice to see Victor Scott get his
• 3:46
  first career stolen base in his first game.

  That's very cool. But the rest of the offense was

  was bad, and I'm not worried about that.

  I'm still very high on the Cardinals offense.

  And when I looked at that lineup on paper, I really, really like

  the Cardinals lineup. And I understand you go, hey

  Charlie, they lost 7 to one. Only one dude got a freaking

  hit. I realized that.

  But when I did see that lineup on paper, I really, really like
• 4:18
  it. And then remember, you got to

  think pretty pretty soon here, Hopefully you're going to get a

  new bar back. You're hopefully going to get a

  Dylan Carlson back. Now Tommy Edmond, I think is is
• 4:30
  probably much further away from coming back.

  But still, I look at it like this, if I really like the look

  of the lineup today and those names, imagine when you have

  Newt Bar back in the starting lineup, you have a guy like
• 4:44
  Carlson starting a good amount of games.

  Whenever Tommy Edmond comes back, he's obviously a valuable
• 4:51
  piece as well, so I'm not worried about the Cardinals
• 4:54
  offense bullpen wise. What do we see Palante Riley

  O'Brien looked like? He had a little bit of a little
• 5:01
  bit of maybe little jitters there.

  Tall drink of water, tall, slender.

  Riley O'Brien. Nice to see Matthew Libatore

  with the clean inning, a guy who can have a nice solid lefty

  reliever roll out of the pen. So that's a bright spot, right?

  I'm trying to be positive. It's one game look, but the

  starting pitching. The starting pitching is the

  thing that I I I think it's fair, even though I'm not going

  to jump to a ton of conclusions after one game.

  But look, all offseason on the radio I said the Cardinals need

  to add 2 starting pitchers who are better than Miles Michaelis

  on paper. Then I'd feel good about this

  team making a deeper on the playoffs.

  Well, we know Sonny Gray got hurt, but they didn't add

  anybody else who on paper was better than Miles Michaelis.

  Now Kyle Gibson. Lancelin may end up being

  better. I still don't think you feel

  fantastic about your your second guy that you're starting in a

  playoff series, potentially assuming Sonny Grazer won, by

  the way, assuming they get to the playoffs.

  But the starting pitching I think is the really big, the

  really big question mark. Now you folks might say Charlie,

  I'm worried about the offense. That's cool.

  worried about the bullpen. I get it.

  I personally am not. I think very good chance they

  have a top ten ish bullpen. But by the way, you got to eat

  problem last year. These are going to be really

  tough games against the Dodgers. Dodgers lineup just does not

  Cardinals to, I think, not bury themselves.

  After that, a series 19 games in, I think you're good with it.

  I do think for this team that had a shit 2023, I think it's

  important to not just start in an unbelievable hole.
