- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one fifty of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I am Mike Coolard from Baseball Prospectus, joined
- 0:23Speaker 1: per usual by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer from Rasball.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How you doing tonight, buddy? Did you get traded away?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Did any of your belongings get traded away? Did any
- 0:32Speaker 1: of your family get traded away? Are you safe?
- 0:35Speaker 2: I believe I'm safe, but I'm probably a high likelihood
- 0:38Speaker 2: of the players be named later pool is. I feel
- 0:41Speaker 2: like that's kind of my skill level here as I'm
- 0:43Speaker 2: the players being named later. It's not the like high
- 0:46Speaker 2: draftic they just couldn't trade yet with like the we
- 0:48Speaker 2: couldn't decide and so we're just gonna take this guy
- 0:51Speaker 2: later type of thing. But nope, still here, still excited. Uh,
- 0:55Speaker 2: we're moving things up a little to talk trade deadline
- 0:58Speaker 2: because man, it was a fun one almost you but
- 1:01Speaker 2: I always love trade deadline day, a lot of fun
- 1:04Speaker 2: stuff to talk about.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, So we are speaking here on August fourth, the Tuesday,
- 1:09Speaker 1: right after the trade deadline yesterday. So honestly, I'm still
- 1:13Speaker 1: kind of like trying to pick up the pieces and
- 1:15Speaker 1: figure out where everything was at because traditionally when we've
- 1:18Speaker 1: done this the past couple of years, we've gone like
- 1:21Speaker 1: trade by trade and analyzed it. I think the cleaner
- 1:23Speaker 1: way to do it this year will be going through
- 1:26Speaker 1: and analyzing each team and the transactions they made. It's
- 1:29Speaker 1: sectually going to be quicker because I think it was
- 1:32Speaker 1: a shade over sixty total trades. It was a lot
- 1:35Speaker 1: of volume. So we were talking about it a little
- 1:38Speaker 1: bit last week, where you know, I think there were
- 1:41Speaker 1: some folks out there that were maybe a little wary
- 1:43Speaker 1: about how much volume would be seeing in this trade deadline,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but it was all over the place, and there was
- 1:48Speaker 1: not necessarily a great rhyme or reason in terms of
- 1:51Speaker 1: some of the teams that were on that dividing line
- 1:54Speaker 1: in each division or in each league definitely went through
- 1:59Speaker 1: and also some sold, some bought, So it made a
- 2:02Speaker 1: little bit of an interesting deadline. We're gonna cover that
- 2:05Speaker 1: our main segment, but I am gonna talk to you
- 2:08Speaker 1: first about really the big one that kicked off everything
- 2:12Speaker 1: and that happened and broke on Saturday night was Teak
- 2:14Speaker 1: Schooble going to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the discourse
- 2:19Speaker 1: that's kind of happened in terms of what it could
- 2:21Speaker 1: be mean, especially as we're going into the negotiations of
- 2:24Speaker 1: the CBA this offseason and just the Dodgers having every
- 2:29Speaker 1: superstar that exists. So what is your take, Bin, Are
- 2:33Speaker 1: you in the doom and gloom camp or are you like, hey,
- 2:38Speaker 1: it's it's the trade deadline. Pony pony up if you
- 2:40Speaker 1: want to Treeak Scooble.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I maybe I'm still on the fence.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And this one, for the part of me is yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 2: pony up if you want Toree Schooble. The other part
- 2:48Speaker 2: of me goes Detroit. What were you doing? Like they
- 2:51Speaker 2: traded him early and this was the biggest piece at
- 2:56Speaker 2: the trade deadline, and I feel like they could have
- 2:58Speaker 2: gotten more for him if they had held out, Like
- 3:01Speaker 2: there were some good players traded, and it felt like
- 3:05Speaker 2: his capital as a player was significantly higher than almost
- 3:11Speaker 2: anybody else in the market. And I don't know why
- 3:13Speaker 2: you're not trading him for you know, two maybe three
- 3:18Speaker 2: top fifty prospects. And you know, there's a lot of
- 3:22Speaker 2: talk about River Ryan an old prospect. I think it's
- 3:25Speaker 2: townsed player, But again that doesn't make as much much sense.
- 3:29Speaker 2: They are hope nothing against him great prospect, but it
- 3:33Speaker 2: feels like they just took like they just knew they
- 3:35Speaker 2: were going to tradem to the Dodgers, and so they
- 3:37Speaker 2: just took the Dodgers like first offer and just moved them.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So I feel like a little let down by the Tigers.
- 3:43Speaker 2: At the same time, everybody else knew he was gonna
- 3:46Speaker 2: be on the market, so go put your best foot
- 3:49Speaker 2: forward and don't get caught behind the eight ball by waiting.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And I think that's what happened to a lot of
- 3:53Speaker 2: teams is they did not show up with their best offer,
- 3:56Speaker 2: trying to play the slow game, expecting to be moved
- 3:59Speaker 2: like midday or late Monday, and Dodgers probably looked at him, go,
- 4:04Speaker 2: nobody else's offering us anything. I'm taking the best deal
- 4:06Speaker 2: of moving on and get those things figured out because
- 4:08Speaker 2: I have a lot of other guys I want to move.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So you know, the only other thing I look at
- 4:13Speaker 2: it is the Dodgers know that there's gonna be some
- 4:16Speaker 2: pretty heavy discussions on salary cap of those types of things,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and they go, well, that's not yet, So I'm gonna
- 4:22Speaker 2: make my moves and I'm gonna pay what I can pay.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Let my money talk and I'm gonna go try and
- 4:25Speaker 2: win another World Series and we'll deal with the fallout later.
- 4:28Speaker 2: That's a future Dodgers problem. Now it's a day Dodger problem.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think I'm with you too. Where
- 4:34Speaker 1: it's like, I mean, it's not like other teams seem
- 4:38Speaker 1: to be trying as hard as the Dodgers are right
- 4:40Speaker 1: now too, so Slash there was certainly I do. I
- 4:44Speaker 1: wish I was on the Tiger side to see like
- 4:47Speaker 1: what the offers worried does sound like the Brewers offer
- 4:50Speaker 1: involved like Luis Payana, Jet Williams and josh Am Chevsky,
- 4:54Speaker 1: which it's not a bad opening lot. You would think
- 4:56Speaker 1: that you could negotiate from there, And honestly, I would
- 5:00Speaker 1: probably have rather have Louise Payana than say your hope.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I think I would too.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Uh, certainly, I think River Ryan put that deal over
- 5:07Speaker 1: the line a little bit. But also like you could
- 5:10Speaker 1: have gone back to the Brewers. They have plenty of
- 5:12Speaker 1: pitching a Bishop Letson or I mean even somebody like
- 5:15Speaker 1: a Logan Henderson.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And brings exactly the name I was thinking was Logan Henderson.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Like Logan Henderson might be a little bit more untouchable.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Henderson has been so good because he might he was
- 5:24Speaker 2: good again, or at least he has been so far
- 5:27Speaker 2: and night I saw at least through the third inding
- 5:29Speaker 2: he was he was doing prettymuch darn good.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, And so there is that factor I think
- 5:34Speaker 1: from the Tigers as well. On top of like it
- 5:37Speaker 1: does feel like if I were the Tigers, I would
- 5:39Speaker 1: have been asking for just a little bit more from
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Dodgers, Like it's not going to kill the Dodgers
- 5:44Speaker 1: to chip in a few extra pieces, you know, maybe
- 5:47Speaker 1: even trying to ask for somebody like an Emeo Morales
- 5:50Speaker 1: or somebody in their kind of complex system where they've
- 5:54Speaker 1: been recently signed and you know that the Dodgers have
- 5:57Speaker 1: a great eye for it, slash or just more pitching.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Like I don't see how the Dodgers would have said
- 6:03Speaker 1: no if the Tigers have been, like, okay, throwing a
- 6:05Speaker 1: couple of these high A low A arms just to
- 6:08Speaker 1: kind of give me a little bit more assurance and
- 6:10Speaker 1: a few more shots at something really turning out from this.
- 6:14Speaker 1: But yeah, I think it does speak a little bit
- 6:17Speaker 1: more towards like there's just a lot of teams out
- 6:20Speaker 1: there that are coasting and I think it's really kind
- 6:25Speaker 1: of funny to see all the spouting of the propaganda
- 6:28Speaker 1: from the MLB side when you're watching an MLB network
- 6:31Speaker 1: and MLBtv about like we need a cap because it's
- 6:35Speaker 1: for the integrity of the game. All the fans want
- 6:37Speaker 1: it because of make everything even and blah blah blah.
- 6:40Speaker 1: But it's like just try, Like the Dodgers are out
- 6:44Speaker 1: there giving their best effort. It feels like every year,
- 6:47Speaker 1: every deadline, every free agent period where it does feel
- 6:51Speaker 1: like you've got some of these other behemoths, especially the Yankees,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I look at where it's like, come on, guys, like
- 6:56Speaker 1: you gotta put some skin in the game, make some
- 7:00Speaker 1: and make some risks of try to overtake the Dodgers.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, let's also not
- 7:05Speaker 1: forget how close the Dodgers were to losing that World
- 7:08Speaker 1: Series in twenty five.
- 7:10Speaker 2: They were.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Multiple times, so like, yeah, this isn't like an unstoppably
- 7:17Speaker 1: hemoth that is wrecking the sport. I think if anything,
- 7:20Speaker 1: it's making all the other teams. In my view, it
- 7:24Speaker 1: shines a light on some of the just less than
- 7:28Speaker 1: stellar ways that they're running their teams when they could
- 7:31Speaker 1: step up to the plate. I think a little bit
- 7:33Speaker 1: more at the Dodgers. Obviously the financial might allows them
- 7:36Speaker 1: to have like a scooball Glass now snell Otani and
- 7:40Speaker 1: just like sign tons of pitchers and figure out which
- 7:43Speaker 1: ones are healthy. But like we'll talk about a little
- 7:47Speaker 1: bit like the Cubs too when we get to that topic.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Because they had to go out and trade for almost
- 7:51Speaker 1: entire rotation. You could have backfilled a lot of that
- 7:54Speaker 1: with a lot of kind of talent that was sitting
- 7:56Speaker 1: there late towards the end of the off season, or
- 8:00Speaker 1: you know, go out and pursue a Foster Griffin harder
- 8:03Speaker 1: that there's ways to improve your team that. I think
- 8:07Speaker 1: a lot of teams outside of Los Angeles they're not
- 8:10Speaker 1: pulling those levers in the same way.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's outside of Los Angeles and San Diego. I
- 8:15Speaker 2: just think Proler doesn't pull them quite as well.
- 8:18Speaker 1: That's act. You're a pretty good example though. The Padres
- 8:20Speaker 1: do try all the time even though they've got nothing,
- 8:24Speaker 1: and he keeps showing up and keep stacking onto that roster,
- 8:28Speaker 1: trying to make sure that the.
- 8:29Speaker 2: One are the teams that we thought might sell and
- 8:31Speaker 2: all of a sudden just decides to buy randomly. They're like,
- 8:34Speaker 2: we're trading our number three and five and seven prospers
- 8:37Speaker 2: on what the numbers were. And then there's like, well,
- 8:39Speaker 2: but that's not really saying much in that system.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So yes, I mean, they just keep crapping up out
- 8:45Speaker 1: of nowhere. Even think he'd run dry, but I don't
- 8:47Speaker 1: know if he ever can in San Diego. Okay, Well,
- 8:50Speaker 1: before we get into the full fallout and focusing mostly
- 8:55Speaker 1: on the fantasy side, but I think there will be
- 8:56Speaker 1: some Baseball card implications on some of these tradeline dead
- 9:00Speaker 1: lie fallouts, especially on the prospects that are moving around
- 9:03Speaker 1: and ones that you might want to be investing in.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Before we get into that, though, we still have other
- 9:08Speaker 1: news and notes that happened in terms of call ups
- 9:11Speaker 1: and injuries across the league, So let's dive straight into them,
- 9:14Speaker 1: because along with the trade deadline, the nice thing is
- 9:17Speaker 1: it kind of finally gives you another time to shuffle
- 9:21Speaker 1: rosters and open up spots for big prospects that have
- 9:25Speaker 1: been working their way through the miners. The biggest one
- 9:27Speaker 1: that came up in the last week, Max Clark, outfielder
- 9:30Speaker 1: for the Detroit Tigers, made his debut, got a nice
- 9:34Speaker 1: little off landing spot for the weekend in Sacramento to
- 9:38Speaker 1: be able to play, so he did hit his first
- 9:41Speaker 1: home run and ended up putting up a five hundred,
- 9:45Speaker 1: six hundred and nine to seventeen slash line over three
- 9:48Speaker 1: games against the A's in Sacramento, and before his call
- 9:52Speaker 1: up in TRIPAA was slashing two seventy six, three sixty
- 9:55Speaker 1: eight four thirty four. That's a one to sixteen WRC
- 9:58Speaker 1: plus with eleven homers, twenty one stolen bases, sixty five
- 10:02Speaker 1: runs in ninety games. You know, not a crazy sterling
- 10:07Speaker 1: performance there, but he was only a twenty one year old.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Was drafted in twenty twenty three as the third overall
- 10:14Speaker 1: pick out of high school. So what's your take here
- 10:17Speaker 1: on Max Clark? Is he somebody where you see a
- 10:20Speaker 1: huge upside in his game where that number three overall
- 10:24Speaker 1: pick could portend launching him into fantasy stardom. Or is
- 10:29Speaker 1: this a guy who you know, great fielder, great everyday
- 10:33Speaker 1: baseball player, but maybe not the star for fantasy that
- 10:37Speaker 1: you might be expecting with that draft pick draft pedigree.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if anything, the guy I compare him
- 10:43Speaker 2: most to, it might actually be his teammate and Kevin McGonagall,
- 10:47Speaker 2: Like they're both, you know, complete all round players, not
- 10:51Speaker 2: a single i'll say, exceptional tool, multiple multiple really really
- 10:56Speaker 2: good tools. So this is not like the case of
- 10:58Speaker 2: these guys are above average in a lot of things.
- 11:01Speaker 2: They're really really good in a number of things. And
- 11:03Speaker 2: I think Clark has really strong plate discipline. He's a
- 11:07Speaker 2: speedy guy. He's been always been an efficient based stealer,
- 11:11Speaker 2: probably a top fifteen twenty percentile speed type of guy.
- 11:16Speaker 2: You know, he's probably gonna be a twenty twenty five
- 11:20Speaker 2: homer guy. He's gonna fill out more. He is not.
- 11:22Speaker 2: He's on the smaller side, five eleven, but still he's
- 11:24Speaker 2: two of five. He's going to be built pretty well
- 11:27Speaker 2: at that, a very strong fielder, and like I said,
- 11:32Speaker 2: he's gonna get on base. He walks a decent amount.
- 11:35Speaker 2: So he's just a very very complete player at a
- 11:38Speaker 2: young age, being only twenty one. He won't be twenty
- 11:41Speaker 2: two until you know, almost the end of the year here,
- 11:44Speaker 2: and so I look at that very similar to like
- 11:46Speaker 2: a seven gone gole guy. This is going to be
- 11:48Speaker 2: really really solid Philip the stat sheet. He's probably not
- 11:51Speaker 2: gonna be your go crazy kind of guy that's gonna
- 11:55Speaker 2: get on these hot streaks like a Elle de la
- 11:57Speaker 2: Cruz or a James Wood or any like that who
- 12:00Speaker 2: just does these phenomenal, amazing things with these crazy tools.
- 12:04Speaker 2: But day and day out, he's gonna be a guy
- 12:06Speaker 2: that shows up, puts the numbers up, and just continues
- 12:10Speaker 2: to plug away. And you're gonna come back and look
- 12:11Speaker 2: at the end of the season and it's gonna be
- 12:13Speaker 2: like a twenty five to twenty five two ninety type
- 12:15Speaker 2: season and you're gonna be absolutely thrilled with it. So like,
- 12:19Speaker 2: put me in between the McGonagle and the PCA type
- 12:22Speaker 2: of thing with Max Clark, And I know that's high praise,
- 12:24Speaker 2: but I really think that's the kind of guy that
- 12:26Speaker 2: he will. He can't peak to. Is that gonna be
- 12:28Speaker 2: right now? Probably not. He's gonna have some growing pains,
- 12:32Speaker 2: But I think I really I like Max Clark a lot.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think I am close to you,
- 12:39Speaker 1: maybe a little less effusive where I mean. I think
- 12:43Speaker 1: that it would be a real long shot to see
- 12:46Speaker 1: Max Clark I think reach the heights of like a
- 12:48Speaker 1: PCA or Corbyn Carroll. For me, I think he's a
- 12:50Speaker 1: little bit more in like the Jackson maryli Ish mold.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But I mean Merril has been in and out of
- 12:55Speaker 1: that kind of conversation from time to time, and I
- 12:57Speaker 1: think there will be a couple of peak years in
- 13:00Speaker 1: Clark's profile where you know, he starts giving more of
- 13:04Speaker 1: like second round value in terms of fantasy. But I
- 13:07Speaker 1: think you're looking more at like a day in, day out,
- 13:10Speaker 1: play him every every week, number two, number three outfielder
- 13:15Speaker 1: sort of situation. I mean, maybe number one, where it's
- 13:17Speaker 1: like you can get by with him as your number one,
- 13:20Speaker 1: But I think I preferm as my number two, just
- 13:23Speaker 1: because I think the power is probably a little capped
- 13:26Speaker 1: at like twenty five, especially in the ballpark. Two. This
- 13:29Speaker 1: taculus changes a little bit if it's not in Detroit,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and the speed will We'll see, like, you know, he
- 13:36Speaker 1: stole down on the miners, but not like prolifically, you
- 13:40Speaker 1: know what I mean. He put up twenty nine stolen
- 13:42Speaker 1: bases at twenty twenty four nineteen last year, but was
- 13:46Speaker 1: a little bit more nicked up I think last year too,
- 13:49Speaker 1: So it's not like he's one of those dudes who's
- 13:51Speaker 1: putting up fifty sixty stolen bags in the miners. So yeah,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think you're probably right, something like a two sixty
- 13:58Speaker 1: to two eighty average with twenty to twenty five homers,
- 14:02Speaker 1: twenty twenty five steals, maybe even closer to thirty steels
- 14:05Speaker 1: and yeah, great, great counting status as he is at
- 14:08Speaker 1: the top of that what should be a pretty solid
- 14:11Speaker 1: Tigers lineup.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of funny to talk about the Tigers
- 14:15Speaker 2: of school and calling up Clark here as far as
- 14:17Speaker 2: like kind of a change into the garden a way,
- 14:19Speaker 2: like this team looks like they're going to continue to
- 14:22Speaker 2: get better and better. Yeah, just not as on the
- 14:24Speaker 2: pitching side of things.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Like I mean, there's a good shot they
- 14:28Speaker 1: still win this division. I mean they're five and a
- 14:31Speaker 1: half out now as we're speaking, because they fell apart
- 14:34Speaker 1: over a little bit over the past couple days. But
- 14:36Speaker 1: Jackson jobs to be back soon. Jack Flaherty should be
- 14:40Speaker 1: making his way back. Unfortunately, that's about where it drives
- 14:43Speaker 1: out because after trading Maze and Schooble, there's a lot
- 14:47Speaker 1: of holes in that rotation. But the lineup is fine,
- 14:51Speaker 1: So you'll see what the Tigers can do down the stretch.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Next call up, we have is George Lombard Junior being
- 14:58Speaker 1: promoted in New York as the Yanks sent Anthony Volpi
- 15:02Speaker 1: down to the miners again. So George Lombard Junior homer
- 15:07Speaker 1: tonight actually off of the off the Cardinals and going
- 15:11Speaker 1: Appo Taco there for his No, it wasn't Opa Taco,
- 15:15Speaker 1: my bad. I've for some reason thought he was left handed.
- 15:18Speaker 1: He's right handed. But George Lumbard Junior had a pretty
- 15:22Speaker 1: solid stat line down in Triple A and across two
- 15:27Speaker 1: levels this year. It was a two eighty four four
- 15:29Speaker 1: to eleven four eighty nine, four ninety eight slash line,
- 15:33Speaker 1: a one forty WRC plus twelve homers fourteen stolen bases,
- 15:37Speaker 1: So a little more power that he showed for Max
- 15:40Speaker 1: than Max Park, which maybe he's a little unexpected because
- 15:43Speaker 1: he's a wiry dude, but a little bit bigger frame
- 15:47Speaker 1: on George Lombard Junior where he's still filling out. Also,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I mean, I'm never gonna shake it. Maybe the worst
- 15:53Speaker 1: photoshop bowman first card I've ever seen, So shout out
- 15:57Speaker 1: to that for George Lombard Junior really kind of wrecked
- 16:00Speaker 1: his reputation. But son of a big leaguer. You know
- 16:03Speaker 1: that played a long time for the Braves and others.
- 16:06Speaker 1: So what's your take here in George Lombard junior, and
- 16:08Speaker 1: maybe how he compares to Max Clark.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I do like Lombard. I'm definitely gonna
- 16:14Speaker 2: be a step back from from Clark here. I don't
- 16:17Speaker 2: think the power is as strong for Lombard. He did
- 16:22Speaker 2: hit twelve homers across twenty one games the Miners this year,
- 16:26Speaker 2: a little bit elevated home run for fly ball rate
- 16:28Speaker 2: for kind of his his profile historically throughout the minor
- 16:32Speaker 2: leagues until this year, he was like a five or
- 16:34Speaker 2: seven percent homewned fly ball rate kind of guy. He's
- 16:37Speaker 2: been more than double that this year. And I don't
- 16:41Speaker 2: think with that wiry frame that he all of a
- 16:43Speaker 2: sudden just grew into this power. And so I think
- 16:47Speaker 2: he's probably a teens power guy, but with a little
- 16:51Speaker 2: bit more speed upside to your point the wirey frame.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And I've been historically with Yankees prospects, Yes, Ben Rice
- 17:03Speaker 2: has been phenomenal and he's worked out, but when was
- 17:07Speaker 2: the guy The last guy before been Rice that that
- 17:09Speaker 2: was probably Aaron Judge. And we've had a lot of
- 17:12Speaker 2: a lot of zeros in between there with the Volpays
- 17:15Speaker 2: of the world, and I'm still still far a Allen
- 17:19Speaker 2: Spencer Jones, so I've already written him off, which is
- 17:22Speaker 2: probably not fair to any means. But I'm a little
- 17:26Speaker 2: more hesitant in this profile. I think there's some speed here,
- 17:29Speaker 2: but I do think that there's gonna be a little
- 17:32Speaker 2: bit more of an adjustment period for this kind of
- 17:35Speaker 2: bat so I'm hopeful. I want to see what happens,
- 17:38Speaker 2: but I think this is a guy that's more in
- 17:41Speaker 2: your speed specialist type category, and there's a decent amount
- 17:45Speaker 2: of guys in that type of role across the majors
- 17:48Speaker 2: right now, and that's why I'm not gonna be investing
- 17:50Speaker 2: too heavily on Lombard unless I can see him really
- 17:54Speaker 2: carrying a batting average. But I think it's probably gonna
- 17:56Speaker 2: be i'll call it the two fifty range type of
- 18:01Speaker 2: batting average, and if you look at any of the
- 18:03Speaker 2: you know, steam or anything like that, they're calling for
- 18:06Speaker 2: like a two fifteen. So I maybe a bullish I
- 18:10Speaker 2: guess on that, but I don't know. What are your
- 18:11Speaker 2: thoughts on Lombard?
- 18:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it is, I'm I don't know where they're getting
- 18:18Speaker 1: those projections from. You know, it is two fifteen to
- 18:21Speaker 1: two thirty, but he's never I mean, I guess he
- 18:24Speaker 1: did that in twenty twenty five at Double A, but like,
- 18:26Speaker 1: here's a twenty year old at Double A at the
- 18:28Speaker 1: end of the season, like getting his feet wet, and
- 18:32Speaker 1: you're looking at a guy who The thing here is
- 18:34Speaker 1: that the glove will carry Lombard pretty far. And the
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yankees I think are just done with Anthony Volpi. I
- 18:41Speaker 1: think they're done with the kind of negativity that seemingly
- 18:45Speaker 1: surrounds him, even though it's mostly just from online bases,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I think, and I mean there's an element to it
- 18:52Speaker 1: in the park from those from the Yankee bleacher creatures,
- 18:55Speaker 1: but I think that gives Lombard a pretty decent runway
- 19:00Speaker 1: to stick at shortstop here for the Yankees, probably not
- 19:05Speaker 1: expecting a ton of from him this year. But I
- 19:08Speaker 1: don't think it's actually as low as the projection, So
- 19:11Speaker 1: I would take I would take maybe like a two
- 19:13Speaker 1: to fifty batting average here and something like the pace
- 19:16Speaker 1: of like ten homers and twenty five stone bases, so
- 19:21Speaker 1: certainly usable at m I in plenty of leagues and
- 19:24Speaker 1: stuff like that, but you know nothing world being At
- 19:28Speaker 1: the same time, I will say that the fact that
- 19:31Speaker 1: he got to the bigs so quickly is more hopeful
- 19:34Speaker 1: I think for the long term impact here on what
- 19:37Speaker 1: you're looking at for George Lumbard Junior. But I think
- 19:40Speaker 1: you're looking at a little bit more of like a
- 19:42Speaker 1: batting average upside with speed and kind of counting stats
- 19:46Speaker 1: around it, almost like a Auto Lopez ish but maybe
- 19:50Speaker 1: not as much batting average because I don't know if
- 19:52Speaker 1: he's quite got the same back control that Lopez does.
- 19:55Speaker 1: The other X factor will be whether or not the
- 19:58Speaker 1: walk rate from the minor league sticks, because you see
- 20:01Speaker 1: this sometimes and it really strikes me with guys that
- 20:04Speaker 1: maybe don't have the prospect report power the way that
- 20:10Speaker 1: Lombard has is that is the walk rate real? Is
- 20:13Speaker 1: the I reel or is there an element of he
- 20:18Speaker 1: is the son of a big leaguer and knows that
- 20:21Speaker 1: in the minor leagues they can't hit their spots and
- 20:24Speaker 1: if you get on base, you can rack up a
- 20:26Speaker 1: good OBP and move up the ladder quickly. So we'll
- 20:29Speaker 1: see if the If the walk rate sticks, it's a
- 20:31Speaker 1: little bit of a different story because then I think
- 20:33Speaker 1: you have the upside for maybe like a forty stolen
- 20:35Speaker 1: based season out of Lombard. But you know, as long
- 20:39Speaker 1: as the OBP is, you know, in the three twenty
- 20:43Speaker 1: ish average, it's gonna be a little bit more of
- 20:46Speaker 1: like an m option I think in most leagues.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's fair.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Okay. Next call up we have is Hector Rodriguez, outfielder
- 20:54Speaker 1: for the Cincinnati Reds. I mean, all he's been doing
- 20:58Speaker 1: is mashing throughout the mind. It's been kind of a
- 21:01Speaker 1: long time coming for him. You know, started in DSL
- 21:04Speaker 1: as a seventeen year old in twenty twenty one and
- 21:07Speaker 1: has pretty much hit his entire way up through the
- 21:09Speaker 1: minor leagues, but has never really kind of gotten that
- 21:13Speaker 1: next level of prospect pedigree because of the aggressiveness at
- 21:16Speaker 1: the plate. We're talking about a guy who is regularly running,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know, eighteen percent k rates with like less than
- 21:23Speaker 1: five percent walk rates in the minors. But in TRIPA
- 21:26Speaker 1: A he did bring up the k rate and the
- 21:30Speaker 1: walk rate added some more power. Twenty seven homers and
- 21:34Speaker 1: six dolen bases over one hundred and four games with
- 21:36Speaker 1: a two seventy four, three forty seven, five thirty three
- 21:40Speaker 1: batting average, a one to twenty three WRC plus somebody
- 21:44Speaker 1: who I've always I'm not totally sure like where I'm at,
- 21:47Speaker 1: because like, the numbers are great. The numbers are great,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but then like it's really hard to find prospect evaluators
- 21:55Speaker 1: that are in on him, and I can't tell if
- 21:57Speaker 1: it's somebody who's gonna be who he is or can
- 22:01Speaker 1: play to the numbers that he put up in the miners.
- 22:04Speaker 1: One kind of X factor here is that he plays
- 22:07Speaker 1: in Cincinnati, gets a great ballpark. They should give him
- 22:11Speaker 1: full run if he can hit and stick. So what
- 22:13Speaker 1: do you see out of Hector Rodriguez here with the Reds.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yeah, this is definitely one that I'm not too excited about.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I'll just be just very very blunt about it. The
- 22:24Speaker 2: numbers look good, and you can't deny that, right. A
- 22:27Speaker 2: guy that has twenty seven homers in the miners is
- 22:30Speaker 2: hard to ignore. The bill is not necessarily there for me,
- 22:35Speaker 2: but it is really the plate discipline that scares the
- 22:37Speaker 2: Jesus out of me here. If you look at what
- 22:40Speaker 2: he does as far as just this year, at his
- 22:44Speaker 2: swinging that pitches outside the zone, he has a thirty
- 22:46Speaker 2: seven percent swing rate outside the zone at Triple A.
- 22:50Speaker 2: For context, Triple A averages like twenty five percent, and
- 22:53Speaker 2: that this was is his best year by ten points,
- 22:57Speaker 2: not ten percent, ten points from his minor league career.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Last year in the miners, he was a forty six
- 23:03Speaker 2: percent chase rate outside of the zone. This guy is
- 23:07Speaker 2: a free swinger, and when you got the got some pop,
- 23:11Speaker 2: you can make make that work. But at the same time,
- 23:14Speaker 2: he's got lucky again. From the home run flyball rate,
- 23:17Speaker 2: it's double his career. So if you take his twenty
- 23:20Speaker 2: seven homeworns, cut it in half and you get some
- 23:23Speaker 2: guys that are exploited this aggressive style outside the zone,
- 23:26Speaker 2: you're looking like a two twenty hitter with with like
- 23:29Speaker 2: ten homers like that. That's what I'm scared about. Yes,
- 23:33Speaker 2: Great Great America Ballpark can do some things for you.
- 23:36Speaker 2: There are just red flags all around this profile for
- 23:39Speaker 2: me that I feel like we're having a career year
- 23:41Speaker 2: at Triple A, and I just I just don't see
- 23:45Speaker 2: him like cementing himself unless this is like the second
- 23:49Speaker 2: coming of you. Heenemosures for the Reds here, so I'm
- 23:52Speaker 2: generally out of that. I try to be terribly negative
- 23:55Speaker 2: about the minor leaguer's coming up. But I just I'm
- 23:58Speaker 2: not seeing much here that I'm interested in.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm there with you where I think it.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Although it's a little bit of a different approach, I
- 24:07Speaker 1: think it kind of gets into the same mold as
- 24:10Speaker 1: like a Joe Adele where it's gonna be a lot
- 24:14Speaker 1: of strikeouts. Part of it is because Joe the way
- 24:18Speaker 1: Adell comes by is because he's got a pregrooved swing.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Hector Hector Rodriguez does not have that. He's a very
- 24:24Speaker 1: dynamic swing because like he's chasing that much, but he's
- 24:27Speaker 1: still only caing eighteen percent of the time. That's I
- 24:31Speaker 1: think this is part of why it's so hard, been
- 24:33Speaker 1: so hard to evaluate. I don't I can't think of
- 24:35Speaker 1: anybody that's in this mold, Like you don't find players
- 24:39Speaker 1: that swing outside the zone that much, make that much
- 24:42Speaker 1: contact with decent power. You know. It's it's a Luisa
- 24:47Speaker 1: Rise approach with like a Joe Adell outcome, and it's
- 24:51Speaker 1: gonna be really intriguing to see if it can work.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So like, I think that gives him like a little
- 24:56Speaker 1: bit of like a question mark factor to where he
- 25:00Speaker 1: he could surprise, because like, we don't see profiles like
- 25:03Speaker 1: this a lot in Major League Baseball, partly because it
- 25:06Speaker 1: just it's really hard to move up through the miners
- 25:09Speaker 1: with this. But he produced at a different level and
- 25:11Speaker 1: the Reds really need to give him a shot to
- 25:14Speaker 1: see if it can stick. If it can, I mean,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I like I said, I think the median outcome is
- 25:19Speaker 1: Joe Adell, But there is a little bit more intrigue
- 25:23Speaker 1: for the upside for me, because like, if it does,
- 25:26Speaker 1: if there is something like pre natural about his just
- 25:30Speaker 1: eye and the ability to put the bat on the ball,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you can morph that a little bit, I would think
- 25:37Speaker 1: at the big league level and we'll see if it
- 25:39Speaker 1: can work for Rodriguez. But for twenty twenty six, it's
- 25:42Speaker 1: a little bit more of like a hey, I'll pick
- 25:44Speaker 1: him up if I need him a fourth and fifth
- 25:46Speaker 1: outfielder desperately. But it will be fascinating to see what
- 25:50Speaker 1: he does on the stretch, because I think he's gonna
- 25:52Speaker 1: be a fun evaluation going into twenty twenty seven. Yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 1: I agree, Okay, let's get into our last call up.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Who also, I mean, he's already gone down. He got
- 26:03Speaker 1: promoted on Saturday. I believe and then demoted. Here as
- 26:07Speaker 1: we're speaking on Tuesday, we're talking left hander from the
- 26:09Speaker 1: Saint Louis Cardinals, Quinn Matthews, who looked okay in that
- 26:14Speaker 1: debut over the weekend, held his own with a debut
- 26:20Speaker 1: of five innings and two earned runs, three walks, three k's.
- 26:25Speaker 1: You know, the biggest thing is I just like to
- 26:27Speaker 1: see a guy not really like fall apart nerves wise,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and I think Matthews held in that vein for us. Now.
- 26:35Speaker 1: It has been a very up and down performance for
- 26:38Speaker 1: Matthews the past couple of years. You know, twenty twenty
- 26:41Speaker 1: four off the charts great, put him on every type
- 26:45Speaker 1: of prospect list you can think of. Twenty twenty five
- 26:48Speaker 1: was down and was bad, and injury came out. The
- 26:50Speaker 1: gate could not find the zone in twenty twenty six,
- 26:53Speaker 1: the last month or so, you know, you look at
- 26:56Speaker 1: his production in trip La since the beginning of June
- 27:00Speaker 1: until his call up, it was a one to fifty
- 27:02Speaker 1: five VRA over fifty two and a third innings and
- 27:06Speaker 1: fifty nine k's during that time. The walks are still
- 27:08Speaker 1: a little bit high at nineteen there, but certainly better
- 27:11Speaker 1: than they had been. And it seems like he also
- 27:13Speaker 1: had found a ticker to more of velocity. I've been
- 27:16Speaker 1: kind of tracking him a lot for my VP pieces,
- 27:18Speaker 1: so covered them this past week if you want to
- 27:21Speaker 1: go check that out. What's your take here on Matthews,
- 27:24Speaker 1: because obviously he got sent back down I think he'll
- 27:26Speaker 1: probably be up pretty soon again, that the Cardinals especially
- 27:31Speaker 1: might move to a bit of a six man rotation
- 27:33Speaker 1: because Kyle Lay He's going to start running out of
- 27:35Speaker 1: innings at some point, as well as some of these
- 27:37Speaker 1: other younger arms. So is Matthew somebody worth adding and
- 27:42Speaker 1: stashing even though he got sent back downe to the.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Miners for you, Yeah, I mean, I think in deeper
- 27:46Speaker 2: leagues it's worth it. I mean, to your point, he
- 27:49Speaker 2: was really really strong for the last two months in
- 27:51Speaker 2: the miners. Walks is the concern here, That control is
- 27:55Speaker 2: a concern, But there's not a lot standing in the
- 27:58Speaker 2: way at that major league raw stir for for the Cardinals.
- 28:02Speaker 2: You can literally look at almost every spot in that rotation.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Maybe not your your your boy Michael McGreevy here, but
- 28:10Speaker 2: between one hundred Dobbins, Andre Polante, Kyley and Matthew Lebator,
- 28:15Speaker 2: like there's nothing like he could He could slot into
- 28:17Speaker 2: the number two right now if he wanted to. And
- 28:20Speaker 2: that's not a compliment actually, Quinn Matthews. It's maybe more
- 28:23Speaker 2: of a detriment to the rest of the way that
- 28:26Speaker 2: the team is pitched. But I think he's a deep
- 28:30Speaker 2: league streaming option at this point in time. But we
- 28:34Speaker 2: really have to see that that control improve and stick
- 28:39Speaker 2: for us to consider him as much more in my opinion.
- 28:41Speaker 2: And again, big Cardinals fan, uh and see a ton
- 28:44Speaker 2: of potential in him, but for what we're looking at
- 28:46Speaker 2: this year, it's more of a streaming option for me.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm there with you, although I will
- 28:52Speaker 1: stand up for my boy Andre Polante, who has been
- 28:55Speaker 1: pretty good this year. I don't know. I mean, I
- 28:58Speaker 1: I kind of do, you know, because I've been watch
- 29:00Speaker 1: the fastball has improved, like he tweaked the fastball and
- 29:03Speaker 1: it's really helped. And yeah, he's been great.
- 29:07Speaker 2: He's a very good real world pitcher rather than a
- 29:09Speaker 2: fantasy pitcher. That's the problem.
- 29:12Speaker 1: He's been a useful fantasy pitcher too. He's he's been
- 29:14Speaker 1: sneaking by nothing special from the strikeout side, but the
- 29:18Speaker 1: ratios have been pretty solid. But yeah, I do agree
- 29:21Speaker 1: that there's some something a little Matthew Libertre esque with
- 29:25Speaker 1: Quinn Matthews, but I have a little more faith in
- 29:28Speaker 1: Matthew's making it work because the fastball just plays better
- 29:33Speaker 1: than what Libertur has got in his arsenal. So yeah,
- 29:36Speaker 1: I think that he's an ad in stash. Probably in
- 29:40Speaker 1: like fifteen teamers, twelve teamers, you can make him more
- 29:44Speaker 1: of a watch, but I'd be adding him right when
- 29:46Speaker 1: it comes back up. Yeah, all right, you're ready for
- 29:50Speaker 1: some injuries because we've.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Got some no.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Big ones again, so we've just got a handful. But
- 29:57Speaker 1: the theme of this year has been injuries to first
- 29:59Speaker 1: rounders back in our March drafts. Now we're getting injuries
- 30:03Speaker 1: to maybe first rounders in our future March drafts for
- 30:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. The one that just happened before we
- 30:09Speaker 1: started recording this evening, James Wood hitting the IL for
- 30:12Speaker 1: the Washington Nationals oblique strain left the game on Monday night,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and I think they're still waiting for like everything to
- 30:20Speaker 1: come back because the MRI, I think happened this morning,
- 30:23Speaker 1: but they knew it was a significant enough oblique strain
- 30:26Speaker 1: that an il stint was needed, right away. So I'm
- 30:29Speaker 1: looking at maybe six to eight weeks, and as we're
- 30:33Speaker 1: speaking on August fourth, twenty twenty six, eight weeks is
- 30:39Speaker 1: the end of the season. So so what are you
- 30:42Speaker 1: doing with James Wood. Is this somebody where hey, if
- 30:46Speaker 1: you're desperate enough in a redraft league, you might need
- 30:49Speaker 1: to clear out the space, drop James Wood. Or is
- 30:53Speaker 1: it such a great profile that you're not worried about
- 30:59Speaker 1: just the roster space at this point that you just
- 31:02Speaker 1: want the talent and you'll even take the last week
- 31:04Speaker 1: or two of James Wood at this point.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yeah, this one's fresh enough. And the initial kind of
- 31:10Speaker 2: commentary is that it's subtle or mild, like it it
- 31:14Speaker 2: doesn't read to me a that we we're we've really
- 31:18Speaker 2: done something that reads to me that we're being a
- 31:20Speaker 2: little cautious. And so because of that, like you absolutely
- 31:24Speaker 2: cannot cut James Wood. I get the like frustration and
- 31:27Speaker 2: want to do it, But he could be back in
- 31:30Speaker 2: two weeks, it might be eight weeks. Like I it's
- 31:32Speaker 2: hard to know with this one, but I think the
- 31:36Speaker 2: histogram of options sorry talking like an actuary, it sounds like,
- 31:40Speaker 2: but the probability of options between weeks two, three, four five, Like,
- 31:44Speaker 2: I think it's on the shorter side of that. And
- 31:47Speaker 2: this guy has such a dynamic capability that even if
- 31:50Speaker 2: he is eighty percent of himself when he gets back,
- 31:53Speaker 2: that's still a really, really good player. And so I'm
- 31:56Speaker 2: I'm parking on my il, parking my bench of my ful,
- 32:00Speaker 2: which feels like at this point it probably is, and
- 32:03Speaker 2: hoping for the best. You're probably not going to find
- 32:05Speaker 2: a better guy to pick off the waiver wire than
- 32:08Speaker 2: James Wood coming back in two three weeks and being
- 32:10Speaker 2: a partial, partial guy relative to where he's been the
- 32:13Speaker 2: whole season. So I'm sitting status quo. We learn more
- 32:17Speaker 2: about this one. I think that is fair that if
- 32:20Speaker 2: the Nationals fully fallout and this ends up being worse
- 32:22Speaker 2: than what we're kind of seeing right now, then yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 2: you can start having that consideration, because that's when you
- 32:28Speaker 2: get mid September with these these types of things, you're
- 32:31Speaker 2: shutting down. You're getting shut down. So don't don't don't
- 32:34Speaker 2: sit on this one. Pay attention to it, but for
- 32:37Speaker 2: now you got to hold yep.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I think that's fair. If it is the end of
- 32:40Speaker 1: the season, it would be an incredible value for where
- 32:44Speaker 1: he was going in drafts. Would put up a two
- 32:46Speaker 1: sixty five, three ninety three, five thirty five slash line
- 32:50Speaker 1: in five hundred and thirty five plate appearances, thirty homers,
- 32:53Speaker 1: seventeen song vases, got two triple digit runs for you,
- 32:57Speaker 1: So that's pretty huge. Easy first rounder next year, right like.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Absolutely mid mid first rounder. It's not better.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It's he right behind probably the big five that we
- 33:08Speaker 1: always talk about of Otani Judge with Jose Ramirez, Ellie is,
- 33:15Speaker 1: is would six for you?
- 33:17Speaker 2: I I think I might actually would five. I think
- 33:20Speaker 2: I may have pushed him ahead of Jose Ramirez this,
- 33:24Speaker 2: So yeah, but he's right there. And a lot of
- 33:27Speaker 2: this comes down to health for some of those other guys. Well,
- 33:29Speaker 2: I guess maybe all of those guys as we talk
- 33:32Speaker 2: about it, I'm trying to think of, like which one
- 33:34Speaker 2: wasn't hurt at some point this season. I think they've
- 33:36Speaker 2: all been hurt. So what that's next year's storyline is,
- 33:40Speaker 2: is your first round We're gonna be healthy this year?
- 33:42Speaker 1: Yep. And I think I'm there with you that I
- 33:45Speaker 1: would rather have them PCA as well, just because the
- 33:48Speaker 1: power does not sleep.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Scars of the Jesus out of me. He's so gushed,
- 33:53Speaker 2: are and talented, but like he feels O'Neil cruz estiny
- 33:56Speaker 2: at times. We're like, man, he's playing just hair on
- 33:58Speaker 2: fire and the wheels could fall off at some point.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I could be wrong, but man, the guy scares of
- 34:05Speaker 2: the cheeses out of me as my first rounder.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that boils down. That's going to be a fascinating
- 34:10Speaker 1: conversation I think for us in twenty seven because with
- 34:13Speaker 1: PCA as well, like he is definitely one of those
- 34:16Speaker 1: players where we talk about it sometimes where there's a
- 34:18Speaker 1: roto player and there's a head to head guy, and like,
- 34:22Speaker 1: in head to head you need a little more steadiness
- 34:23Speaker 1: and you might fade them down your draft board. PCA
- 34:27Speaker 1: is classically that, because he's so hot and cold. In
- 34:30Speaker 1: a roto league, you just put him in your lineup
- 34:32Speaker 1: set forget all year.
- 34:33Speaker 2: You just wish he was on the West Coast and
- 34:34Speaker 2: so you could go to bed and just wake up
- 34:36Speaker 2: at tomorrow and not really realize what happened.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Yes, but in a head to head league like it
- 34:40Speaker 1: can cost you weeks because if the hot productions all
- 34:44Speaker 1: clustered in a few weeks, that doesn't really help you
- 34:46Speaker 1: as much when you're trying to get steady production. Okay,
- 34:49Speaker 1: well the other one we're talking about, I mean, I
- 34:51Speaker 1: think he probably will be going at the back end
- 34:53Speaker 1: of first rounds. Nick Kurt's first basement of the athletics
- 34:57Speaker 1: going down with this is a weird injury. This is
- 35:00Speaker 1: a thumb injury where they're being a little bit facetious
- 35:03Speaker 1: about what it is slush because like, I don't know
- 35:06Speaker 1: if they can quite put their finger on it, you know,
- 35:09Speaker 1: pun intended. It's a little bit like Roman Anthony, where
- 35:12Speaker 1: Roman Anthony has been dealing with like a sprain slash
- 35:17Speaker 1: tear in one of his tendons in his hands, and
- 35:19Speaker 1: it sounds like Nick Kurts this is in the same
- 35:22Speaker 1: sort of range. So they are making it sound like
- 35:25Speaker 1: it's a relatively minor injury and that he should be
- 35:28Speaker 1: back relatively quickly and just got placed on the IL today.
- 35:33Speaker 1: But it's also his second IL stint of the season
- 35:38Speaker 1: after also going down with the hand injury, I mean,
- 35:42Speaker 1: just a couple of weeks ago. So you're also talking
- 35:44Speaker 1: a guy who went down with a hip flexus strain
- 35:45Speaker 1: last year. There's a lot of tendon niese strains in
- 35:51Speaker 1: poles and sprains for Nick Kurts that are racking up
- 35:54Speaker 1: pretty quick. So I am pocketing it in the back
- 35:57Speaker 1: of my head for that. But is this a concerning
- 36:01Speaker 1: pattern for you or is this kind of like a Hey,
- 36:05Speaker 1: Nick Kurtz is getting used to what it takes to
- 36:07Speaker 1: play one hundred and sixty two games a year, and
- 36:10Speaker 1: you got here of your ups and downs, but you're
- 36:11Speaker 1: not terribly worried. Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 2: So I'm not terribly worried yet. And I think it's
- 36:16Speaker 2: because it's more of that thumb injury. Like if we
- 36:18Speaker 2: were talking a back or a wrist or something like that,
- 36:22Speaker 2: then I might be a little bit more concerned. It's
- 36:26Speaker 2: not typically you see that like hand injuries themselves ten
- 36:30Speaker 2: like recurring, especially in the younger guys. So I'm kind
- 36:34Speaker 2: of chucking it up as they did love to get
- 36:35Speaker 2: healthy and or he pushed too hard and he just
- 36:39Speaker 2: needs the time off. I'm actually a little more worried
- 36:42Speaker 2: about Kurtz getting back this year than I am James
- 36:44Speaker 2: Wood because the athletics are so far out of it.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I did look to see what the draft position was
- 36:50Speaker 2: last two off seasons, and who knows what the CBA
- 36:53Speaker 2: what's gonna happen. But I you know, they're in the
- 36:59Speaker 2: kind of the race of the bottom right now as
- 37:00Speaker 2: as things are concerned, and they have every reason just
- 37:04Speaker 2: let all the They have a lot of guys that
- 37:06Speaker 2: are in this kind of middling like are they going
- 37:08Speaker 2: to be something or not? And they have all the
- 37:10Speaker 2: reason in the world to let those guys, uh, you know,
- 37:12Speaker 2: Tommy White's and honestly, Lawrence Butler, Henry Bolte, Carlos Cortez
- 37:18Speaker 2: like all those guys trying to figure out who they're
- 37:20Speaker 2: gonna be and rushing Nick Kurtz back. I don't think
- 37:24Speaker 2: it really gains you anything. So I think this is
- 37:27Speaker 2: what I'm a little bit more willing to watch and see.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Have we seen the end of Nick Kurtz for this year?
- 37:33Speaker 1: Hey? I mean in terms of gaming things. Don't tell
- 37:35Speaker 1: that to the Nick Kurtz Red Card RC or the
- 37:39Speaker 1: red RC cards, yeah bos that are hanging out out there.
- 37:43Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, I think that's a very fair take.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Next injury, we have first baseman slash outfielder from the
- 37:51Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Pirates, Bryan O'Hearn going down with a left quad strain. Again.
- 37:57Speaker 1: This one's it sounds like it's six to eight weeks,
- 37:59Speaker 1: so he's going to be right on the precipice of
- 38:02Speaker 1: coming back this season or not. I think this one
- 38:05Speaker 1: is firmly in the camp if you can go ahead
- 38:07Speaker 1: and cut them if you're running out of space, because
- 38:09Speaker 1: it's been steady production, but it's not otherworldly. So especially
- 38:14Speaker 1: where you drafted Ryan O'Hearn the two seventy three thirty
- 38:17Speaker 1: four four fifty four slash line one fourteen WRC plus
- 38:21Speaker 1: over three hundred and ninety eight played appearances was fantastic.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Matched career high seventeen homers put up sixty nine RBI
- 38:29Speaker 1: for you, which was also career high at this point.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Was a steady corner infield, outfield option, I think across
- 38:36Speaker 1: the board. So with this conversation, I think I want
- 38:39Speaker 1: to shade a little bit more towards what are you
- 38:41Speaker 1: doing with this profile going to twenty twenty seven, because
- 38:45Speaker 1: o'hearne has certainly carved out a great spot for himself
- 38:48Speaker 1: on this Pirates roster, and we'll be there through twenty
- 38:54Speaker 1: twenty seven the end of next year, so I mean
- 38:56Speaker 1: we'll be another one of those guys where the Pirates
- 38:58Speaker 1: are out of it. May be on the trade block,
- 39:01Speaker 1: but has shown some pretty good things. So what does
- 39:04Speaker 1: o'harn look like for you going forward? Yeah, I think.
- 39:07Speaker 2: O'Hearn is solidly in that back of the corner infield
- 39:12Speaker 2: type of conversation.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Is that?
- 39:13Speaker 2: Is that fair to say? And a big part of
- 39:16Speaker 2: it like he has been solid to your point, very
- 39:19Speaker 2: very solid, and that's kind of what you're looking at
- 39:20Speaker 2: in that position. The problem I have with O'Hearn is
- 39:22Speaker 2: he is a platoon bat, playing every day, and I
- 39:26Speaker 2: think that's really hurt him against lefties this year, and
- 39:30Speaker 2: he's sixty three games somehow only managed one hundred twelve
- 39:33Speaker 2: bats against lefties there, hitting two twenty three with four homers,
- 39:38Speaker 2: fifteen r runs and seventeen RBIs. That's not very good,
- 39:42Speaker 2: but it's good for a seventy one WRC plus. And
- 39:45Speaker 2: so he's done all his damage against rieties, not much
- 39:48Speaker 2: against lefties. But he's in there all the time, and
- 39:50Speaker 2: so he gives you the mirage of a full time
- 39:53Speaker 2: player with the stats of a part time player. And
- 39:56Speaker 2: I think that intentionally putting it on your team versus
- 40:00Speaker 2: falling back into it is different strategies. I would not
- 40:04Speaker 2: target this kind of profile. I happened into it because
- 40:08Speaker 2: this is of what's left out there, and then you
- 40:11Speaker 2: kind of cobble some platoon guys together and ended up
- 40:15Speaker 2: being very happy. So I'm kind of, like I said,
- 40:18Speaker 2: putting them towards the back of the corner infield conversation.
- 40:22Speaker 2: But I probably won't own a whole lot of shares.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yep. I think that's all very fair because on top
- 40:28Speaker 1: of it too, like that's a great call out. If
- 40:29Speaker 1: you're in a daily league, like you can just play
- 40:32Speaker 1: them only against Righty's, certainly that value goes up. But
- 40:36Speaker 1: if you're using him in weekly leagues, it does start
- 40:39Speaker 1: to degrade faster as you get shallower and shallower. But
- 40:44Speaker 1: great deeply option, great daily league option, and somebody who yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 1: certainly great name to readd at the end of any drafts.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I think. Next injury, we have Shane McClanahan going down
- 40:57Speaker 1: with a back injury. It's been called just back toiteness
- 41:00Speaker 1: for now, and uh, we'll see how it unfolds for
- 41:03Speaker 1: the rest of the season. But honestly, it's been better
- 41:07Speaker 1: than I expected on McClanahan this year that he certainly
- 41:09Speaker 1: started rounding into form. It didn't look great at the
- 41:12Speaker 1: beginning of the season, but he found a little bit
- 41:15Speaker 1: more of his groove, starts stretching out more, starting to
- 41:17Speaker 1: find a little bit more of his velocity. Ninety nine
- 41:20Speaker 1: innings of a three h nine RA with a one
- 41:22Speaker 1: twelve whip, and the PIP was at three point thirty
- 41:27Speaker 1: one three thirty six at BP compared to other places.
- 41:32Speaker 1: The FIP calculations off by like just a little bit,
- 41:34Speaker 1: so I have to like look at that every once
- 41:36Speaker 1: in a while. Because the other component here too is
- 41:38Speaker 1: I've really been leaning into DRA minus from BP because
- 41:42Speaker 1: it's been better for me when I use that as
- 41:45Speaker 1: an evaluation tool than FIP or stuff plus or anything
- 41:49Speaker 1: like that. And there it's been a DRA minus that
- 41:53Speaker 1: matched his twenty twenty three DRA minus of a ninety,
- 41:56Speaker 1: so he's been a little bit better than league average
- 41:59Speaker 1: under the hood. And A minus also has a like
- 42:02Speaker 1: a future looking component to it as well, that it's
- 42:05Speaker 1: not like FIP where it's just only looking at your
- 42:08Speaker 1: production without kind of like I don't know how the
- 42:11Speaker 1: calculation works. I'm not going to try to up that
- 42:14Speaker 1: I do, but it's been pretty solid from Shane McClanahan
- 42:18Speaker 1: is what I'm getting to. And you know, I'm okay,
- 42:21Speaker 1: strike out right at twenty two point two percent, but
- 42:24Speaker 1: another injury cropping up here. So what do you do
- 42:27Speaker 1: in with Shane McClanahan in any kind of future looking sense,
- 42:31Speaker 1: especially in like dynasty keeper situations, somebody that you are
- 42:35Speaker 1: willing to hang your hat on as somebody you might
- 42:37Speaker 1: want to be pursuing for a twenty twenty seven By.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I will say he's more on the watch list
- 42:44Speaker 2: for me long term, like the rest of the season.
- 42:46Speaker 2: You know, they think he'll miss a few starts and
- 42:47Speaker 2: hopefully we'll be back, but he's definitely in that kind
- 42:52Speaker 2: of hurt a lot category and it makes me feel
- 42:57Speaker 2: like Sus Spencer Strider two degree, which I can you
- 42:59Speaker 2: know is not probably fair to either of them, but
- 43:02Speaker 2: the guy that had an amazing talent, the injuries wrecked up.
- 43:05Speaker 2: It just doesn't feel like they've been the same absolute
- 43:09Speaker 2: powerhouse they were before. Mcclanahan's actually probably looked better by
- 43:14Speaker 2: many means, but the stuff doesn't quite It just hasn't
- 43:18Speaker 2: quite been there. And so we're talking probably a high threes,
- 43:21Speaker 2: low fors era, a type of guy middling strikeouts like
- 43:26Speaker 2: it's it's it's just one of those profiles that I
- 43:29Speaker 2: don't think is as in demand is what the name
- 43:32Speaker 2: value would would probably suggest. So I'm kind of fading
- 43:37Speaker 2: him a little bit. I'm maybe maybe he's just gonna
- 43:40Speaker 2: continue to build things up up up, and get back
- 43:43Speaker 2: to that same velocity that he had. But it seems
- 43:46Speaker 2: like guys coming back from from these types of injuries
- 43:49Speaker 2: over the years lose a little bit of spin, lose
- 43:52Speaker 2: a little bit of velocity, and that just kind of
- 43:53Speaker 2: takes him back steps. So I'm watching, I'm probably not
- 43:58Speaker 2: actively investing. Maybe I'm just learned finally over the years.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Maybe talking to me in the spring, and I'm actually
- 44:02Speaker 2: fully on board to the injuries. But I think that
- 44:06Speaker 2: this is one of those guys that I just don't
- 44:09Speaker 2: have the long term faith in. And you look at
- 44:13Speaker 2: actually how they've handled this year. He's barely made out
- 44:16Speaker 2: of the fifth inning on almost every game. They're playing
- 44:19Speaker 2: with kids gloves, and I think we sometimes underestimate the
- 44:24Speaker 2: workhorse value of guys. And you look at the rate
- 44:27Speaker 2: stats and things like that're like, hey, this is great,
- 44:29Speaker 2: but then you forget you're getting five innings out of
- 44:31Speaker 2: them every start, and somebody else you're getting seven. And
- 44:34Speaker 2: the fact that they have a little bit lower k
- 44:35Speaker 2: raid or something like that, they still come out way
- 44:38Speaker 2: way far ahead. You get the wins, you get those
- 44:40Speaker 2: other options. So I'm soured a little bit on a
- 44:43Speaker 2: clean hand, and I'm probably not investing very high next year.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think what I'm a little torn here.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I think maybe I'm a tick higher than you, just
- 44:54Speaker 1: because like I know myself as a fancy player that
- 44:57Speaker 1: I can plan around, like the injuries and the lower
- 45:01Speaker 1: valume where this reminds me it's a lot of like
- 45:05Speaker 1: prime Rich Hill, and so like that's how I'm trying you. Well,
- 45:10Speaker 1: I mean, primary Chillill was.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Was valuable, was on the mound. I guess I just
- 45:14Speaker 2: I exposed Brent Woodruff like two weeks ago, how amazing
- 45:17Speaker 2: he was with the same argument. So I have no
- 45:19Speaker 2: no room to stand.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, when you're looking at like kind
- 45:23Speaker 1: of piecing together your entire team for a season, if
- 45:26Speaker 1: you have McClanahan out of the draft, I'm really only
- 45:29Speaker 1: counting like one hundred, one hundred and twenty innings. So honestly,
- 45:32Speaker 1: right there, it's probably already disqualifying in a redraft. So
- 45:35Speaker 1: the only spot that I'm going to end up with
- 45:37Speaker 1: McClanahan is in a keeper of Dynasty situation where I've
- 45:42Speaker 1: gotten him cheaper than what the market's valuing him at,
- 45:46Speaker 1: And then you got to know if that works for
- 45:49Speaker 1: your strategy or not. Are you somebody who finds pitching well.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Are you ready to go with the roller coaster ups
- 45:57Speaker 1: and downs of trying to stream two starters and find
- 46:00Speaker 1: new guys. Are you willing to really pinpoint in on
- 46:06Speaker 1: streamable guys when they're pitching, you know, in Saint Louis
- 46:10Speaker 1: and in Texas and some of these other spots and
- 46:12Speaker 1: really stay on top of the game. Or are you
- 46:14Speaker 1: somebody you want a rotation where you can just plug
- 46:19Speaker 1: it and let it play. Then if you're in that
- 46:21Speaker 1: ladder camp McLanahan, you can't be easing because you've got
- 46:24Speaker 1: to be able to work around the fringes of your
- 46:27Speaker 1: roster to be able to make sure that you have
- 46:29Speaker 1: the support behind McClanahan to go the entire season. So
- 46:34Speaker 1: on top of it too, I do think that there's
- 46:37Speaker 1: a chance that the Rays stretch him out a little
- 46:39Speaker 1: bit more next year. They did this with Drew Rasmussen
- 46:41Speaker 1: when he came back from his latest elbow surgery where
- 46:45Speaker 1: that first season he came back, it was like five innings,
- 46:47Speaker 1: four innings, five innings, four innings, and so he was
- 46:51Speaker 1: killing you if you're in a QS league especially, But
- 46:53Speaker 1: I think I'm a little less concerned about that with
- 46:56Speaker 1: McClanahan into twenty seven, because you know, he just put
- 46:59Speaker 1: ninety nine good innings underneath his belt. If this back
- 47:02Speaker 1: injury isn't anything, then he should get up to like
- 47:04Speaker 1: one twenty ish, which is pretty crazy considering he hadn't
- 47:08Speaker 1: pitched since twenty twenty three. But there is also a
- 47:12Speaker 1: slipper of like that back injury when you're talking these
- 47:15Speaker 1: injured guys. When you said Spencer Strider, I was thinking
- 47:18Speaker 1: that too, because it's like, it doesn't take much when
- 47:21Speaker 1: these injured guys start getting their mechanics off or something's
- 47:26Speaker 1: barking a little bit, it can really get out of
- 47:28Speaker 1: whack fast. So it's a high risk approach, but I
- 47:33Speaker 1: think if you know what you're doing and you know
- 47:36Speaker 1: how to build around your team for it, he can
- 47:38Speaker 1: be a useful number two, number three fantasy starter. I
- 47:40Speaker 1: think going forward, for you, all right, we have one
- 47:44Speaker 1: last injury, and this one really had some domino effects
- 47:48Speaker 1: on the trade deadline, because we'll get into it with
- 47:51Speaker 1: the Dodgers talk. Dalton Rushing catcher for the Dodgers, going
- 47:54Speaker 1: down with an injury and placed on the IL with
- 47:58Speaker 1: a mild elbowster is what they're calling getting his right elbow.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Has been fantastic two fifty three, three thirty five, four
- 48:05Speaker 1: seventy five slash line with twelve homers and thirty six
- 48:09Speaker 1: RBI in seventy four games as a twenty five year
- 48:12Speaker 1: old was mashing it out of the park. And now
- 48:16Speaker 1: we'll be on the IL. We'll see what this elbow
- 48:19Speaker 1: entry turns into. But how has your view of Dalton
- 48:24Speaker 1: Rushing changed with this stretch run that he's had in
- 48:27Speaker 1: twenty twenty six.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if it's actually decreased my faith in
- 48:33Speaker 2: him long term, and that's because I think people don't
- 48:37Speaker 2: realize how bad he's been since that early hot start,
- 48:41Speaker 2: so since the beginning of May. So we're talking three
- 48:45Speaker 2: months now, and he was full, full time starter that
- 48:49Speaker 2: whole time. Because Will Smith's been kind of around. He's
- 48:51Speaker 2: a few weeks away. You mentioned his his line since
- 48:56Speaker 2: the beginning of May two twenty eight, three eleven three
- 48:59Speaker 2: seventy four, he's been pretty bad. He's struck out thirty
- 49:04Speaker 2: percent of the time since that. He's got five homewors
- 49:06Speaker 2: over those three months. And do you know where the
- 49:09Speaker 2: Dodgers had him batting last, dead last in the lineup?
- 49:14Speaker 2: It is the Dodgers. I get it, but it seems
- 49:19Speaker 2: like that they had they were souring on him, and
- 49:21Speaker 2: he just hasn't been producing. And it's not like he's
- 49:25Speaker 2: had bad luck his baby. It's actually three h nine
- 49:28Speaker 2: for his with that kind of uh say, speed and
- 49:31Speaker 2: things that should should actually be lower than that, So
- 49:34Speaker 2: he's actually been gotten some luck. So I'm I'm a
- 49:38Speaker 2: little bit concerned that if I have Rushing, I'm probably
- 49:42Speaker 2: trying to move him, because his overall line still looks
- 49:45Speaker 2: pretty gosh darn good, but it looks like he's been
- 49:47Speaker 2: exposed to some degree by the majors and hasn't quite
- 49:50Speaker 2: figured it out. And Will Smith will be back, and
- 49:54Speaker 2: Will Spith isn't going anywhere, and so I think Rushing
- 49:56Speaker 2: is gonna be I hate to make the comp I
- 49:59Speaker 2: think he's also and Barnes, I think he's gonna be
- 50:01Speaker 2: this this guy that had one or two hot months
- 50:04Speaker 2: and he's gonna be stuck in purgatory between behind will
- 50:07Speaker 2: Smith and then cast off. Maybe I'm being a little
- 50:10Speaker 2: too negative here, but I'm not really thrilled, and that's
- 50:13Speaker 2: probably not the popular opinion about Dalton Russian.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it was a little bit
- 50:20Speaker 1: of an unlucky stretch in May two. Since Junior's been
- 50:23Speaker 1: a little bit better and the x wobas in league average,
- 50:27Speaker 1: I think he's fine as a catcher. Like I think
- 50:30Speaker 1: that there's not a whole much a whole bunch more upside,
- 50:33Speaker 1: but like he's probably a top fifteen catcher for me,
- 50:37Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's kind of like, but
- 50:39Speaker 1: he's nothing like super duper special where I'm out there
- 50:42Speaker 1: like thinking that he's the next hot thing and in
- 50:46Speaker 1: fantasy dynasty keeper situations where like, honestly it's still probably
- 50:51Speaker 1: rather have like an anal Haandro Kirk or a Yanyar
- 50:54Speaker 1: Diaz in a little bit more of a long term situation.
- 50:57Speaker 1: So I think he's fine, is what it's.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Been where you're valuing because I think there's a lot
- 51:02Speaker 2: of folks that see him as the top five catcher
- 51:05Speaker 2: long term, and I think that's the issue is to
- 51:07Speaker 2: you when you said top fifteen. I'm actually not that
- 51:09Speaker 2: far off of that. But I think people are treating
- 51:12Speaker 2: him like he should be a top five catcher because
- 51:15Speaker 2: he's on the Dodgers and he looked really good in
- 51:16Speaker 2: his overall stat line's pretty solid. But I since June one,
- 51:22Speaker 2: he struck out thirty four percent of the time, like
- 51:25Speaker 2: he has struggled.
- 51:26Speaker 1: You can do that as a catcher, Yeah, you can
- 51:28Speaker 1: do that.
- 51:29Speaker 2: He's still hit two Sunday forward during that time frames
- 51:31Speaker 2: like it can it can play. But if you're looking
- 51:33Speaker 2: at him as a catcher too, I'm a lot more
- 51:35Speaker 2: comfortable with that. I just think people are expecting that
- 51:38Speaker 2: he's going to be a catcher one on the better
- 51:40Speaker 2: half of that as well.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that is very fair. Yeah, I'm not
- 51:44Speaker 1: certainly in that territory. But yeah, in terms of the
- 51:48Speaker 1: kind of massive mid portion of catchers that we have,
- 51:53Speaker 1: he's writing that lump with me. With me, I'm not
- 51:56Speaker 1: in that lump, but with everybody else. Okay, Well, let's
- 52:01Speaker 1: check out that baseball card release calendar in the show
- 52:05Speaker 1: notes that we've got. So the couple of changes that
- 52:09Speaker 1: we have. Our Tops Museum collection pre order is set
- 52:12Speaker 1: for August seventeenth. We are speaking on the fourth actually tomorrow,
- 52:16Speaker 1: if you're in New York, you can swing by the
- 52:18Speaker 1: MLB store to get twenty twenty six tops chrome logo
- 52:22Speaker 1: Fractor will be in store at the MLB store. Doesn't
- 52:26Speaker 1: release widely, you know, to hobby shops or online until
- 52:30Speaker 1: the nineteenth, but get you a little bit of a
- 52:33Speaker 1: you know, a little bit of an insider track if
- 52:37Speaker 1: you're trying to get some of those hot kind of
- 52:38Speaker 1: Griffins or something out of that. Those boxes will also
- 52:41Speaker 1: be totally wrecked if like the one of one auto
- 52:45Speaker 1: gets pulled out that out of the New York City store,
- 52:48Speaker 1: which also maybe tells you it might not be there.
- 52:50Speaker 2: So yeah, but those people love those logo fractors, So
- 52:54Speaker 2: if you're in New York, buy as many as you can,
- 52:56Speaker 2: because you you're going to build like double your money
- 52:58Speaker 2: on them on the other resale market with those boxes,
- 53:01Speaker 2: like people are gonna want them. If they it's two weeks,
- 53:04Speaker 2: it is a pretty big gap to have to get
- 53:06Speaker 2: them actually in stores across the rest of the the country.
- 53:09Speaker 2: So if you're in New York, pick up some logo
- 53:12Speaker 2: Fractor boxes. Send one our way, just as maybe research.
- 53:15Speaker 2: I'm very open to that.
- 53:17Speaker 1: I'll take one as well. I'm not going to turn
- 53:19Speaker 1: that down. Okay, well, let's going to wrap us up
- 53:21Speaker 1: for this portion. We're gonna take a small break, collect
- 53:23Speaker 1: our wits so that we can return and talk about
- 53:26Speaker 1: all those trade deadline boobs. All right, Welcome back, everybody.
- 53:46Speaker 1: We're going to just run through every team and the
- 53:49Speaker 1: implications of their trade deadline moves what it's going to
- 53:53Speaker 1: shake out for on the fancy side, And like I
- 53:56Speaker 1: said in the in the intro of this pod, I
- 53:58Speaker 1: think there's also going to be some hard implications here
- 54:01Speaker 1: too because of the prospects that moved. You know, we
- 54:04Speaker 1: did have a handful of top one hundred guys move,
- 54:06Speaker 1: which has not happened quite as often, it feels like
- 54:10Speaker 1: over the less few deadlines, as most teams have become
- 54:13Speaker 1: prospect huggers. But we've got some movement and young guys too,
- 54:17Speaker 1: some other young guys where you know, some challenge trades
- 54:20Speaker 1: going on and stuff like that. So I think there's
- 54:23Speaker 1: a lot to unpack from all these trades. I'm also
- 54:26Speaker 1: going to touch a little bit on like there's some
- 54:27Speaker 1: other movements in terms of like DFAs and cuts and
- 54:31Speaker 1: options and promotions that have kind of happened in the
- 54:34Speaker 1: wake of these things, as well as other kind of
- 54:37Speaker 1: each team, you know, they have to now rebuild some
- 54:40Speaker 1: rotations where looking at you, New York Mets woke up
- 54:44Speaker 1: today and did not have more than like two pitchers
- 54:47Speaker 1: and they're starting rotation, so trying to figure things out
- 54:50Speaker 1: from there. I'm just using the MLB Trade Rumors list,
- 54:54Speaker 1: so if I miss one, blame them, but hopefully we
- 54:58Speaker 1: can maybe catch it too. But I have faith in them.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I think they did a pretty thorough job. I respect
- 55:03Speaker 1: everything that they put together. It's a lot to cover.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Shout out to anybody that was doing any of the
- 55:09Speaker 1: writing for this that I didn't have to do it,
- 55:11Speaker 1: thankfully on the BP side from the fantasy, because the
- 55:15Speaker 1: homepages on all of the websites out there for baseball
- 55:19Speaker 1: writing are just littered with transaction analysis after transaction analysis
- 55:23Speaker 1: because of the volume of trades we're talking. So we're
- 55:28Speaker 1: gonna go alphabetically. You ready, This is gonna feel little
- 55:30Speaker 1: bit weird because you should we go alphabetically like AL
- 55:33Speaker 1: and NL when we do these types of previews. Are
- 55:36Speaker 1: you going to be ready for an all MLB a dise.
- 55:39Speaker 2: I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to handle this,
- 55:41Speaker 2: but I'm glad that we have you at the helm
- 55:42Speaker 2: to direct us through this. So let's see. Let's see
- 55:45Speaker 2: where we go.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's start in Arizona with the Dbacks. Pretty
- 55:51Speaker 1: straightforward little trade deadline for them. They picked up Lars Newtbar,
- 55:56Speaker 1: sent Daniel Egan, a pitcher, and Sondra Santana over to
- 56:02Speaker 1: the Cardinals in relief. Well, Santana is in relief, but
- 56:07Speaker 1: in exchange for Newbar, Santana's a little bit more of
- 56:11Speaker 1: like a lefty reliever. Probably not a lot of fantasy
- 56:14Speaker 1: or Baseball card implications. Egan was one of the bigger
- 56:18Speaker 1: pitching prospects that the Dbacks had and was pitching for
- 56:23Speaker 1: them in Double A, so probably more of a twenty
- 56:27Speaker 1: twenty seven person to look forward to for the Cardinals.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Lars Nubar is the name to focus on here. Who
- 56:33Speaker 1: will be kicking? It looks like currently Ildomaro Vargas is
- 56:38Speaker 1: the loser, which not a big deal. He's really fallen apart.
- 56:42Speaker 1: So Newbar should be sliding right into a big side
- 56:45Speaker 1: platoon role for the Dbacks. What's your take here on
- 56:50Speaker 1: the impact it could have for him.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Newbar is one of the interesting guys
- 56:55Speaker 2: that he There's a lot of talent there, and I
- 56:57Speaker 2: feel like this is one of those guys that should
- 56:59Speaker 2: be able to to deliver more than he has. He's
- 57:07Speaker 2: just struggled with health issues. But I will say the
- 57:10Speaker 2: stack cast Darling two degree, he's always been the guy
- 57:12Speaker 2: that has a strong exvelocities, he's got a solid plate approach,
- 57:17Speaker 2: he's able to get on base. He just hasn't put
- 57:20Speaker 2: all together. And I think it's a perfect example of
- 57:23Speaker 2: a guy that just needs to change the scenery and
- 57:25Speaker 2: a chance to get healthy. It's really what it comes
- 57:27Speaker 2: down to. So I like the trade for the Diamondbacks
- 57:33Speaker 2: here clearly you know they get I think it's a
- 57:36Speaker 2: year and a half control here, so that's a little
- 57:37Speaker 2: bit longer, longer play. Yeah, they did give up a
- 57:41Speaker 2: decent prospect and egan here, But but this is one
- 57:45Speaker 2: of those Yeah, look at the system you're coming from.
- 57:47Speaker 2: An Arizona's system is not the strongest. Is probably about
- 57:51Speaker 2: of ten in the majors. So again, I think it
- 57:54Speaker 2: was a fifth overall on a list, not not a
- 57:57Speaker 2: big give up. For me. So I think news got
- 58:00Speaker 2: some hidden potential and if he can just be healthy
- 58:03Speaker 2: and get a good run, then I think he can
- 58:04Speaker 2: do some pretty good things for the Diamondbacks. I've got
- 58:07Speaker 2: him kind of the watch list guy that if I
- 58:10Speaker 2: get into a bind, I'm willing to invest in. But
- 58:13Speaker 2: beyond that, I think I still need to see him
- 58:16Speaker 2: actually come through and produce against those fancy stack coast metrics.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think that's all very fair. I think
- 58:24Speaker 1: I am pretty much right on board with you across
- 58:28Speaker 1: all that analysis and a new part. It's not going
- 58:34Speaker 1: to be somebody who crosses the ale in Al divide,
- 58:36Speaker 1: so we'll kind of highlight that as well. But probably
- 58:40Speaker 1: was on like fifteen teen sort of like consideration, maybe
- 58:46Speaker 1: some twelve teamers up or down arrow for large new
- 58:50Speaker 1: bar from you.
- 58:52Speaker 2: I give him a slight up arrows slight up arrow.
- 58:54Speaker 2: It's not a huge up arrow, but I think a
- 58:56Speaker 2: little better environment, a little bit better park, and just
- 59:00Speaker 2: the chance change of scenery, So give him a slide
- 59:02Speaker 2: up arrow.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Okay, I think that is all very fair. Let's move
- 59:06Speaker 1: on to the athletics. Unfortunately, MLB trade rumors that's not
- 59:10Speaker 1: labeled them as Sacramento Athletics, and I'm not going to
- 59:12Speaker 1: try to figure out where we have to slop that
- 59:14Speaker 1: in later, so we're going to do it now. Slash.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Not too much going on here, So a bunch of
- 59:21Speaker 1: relievers that kind of shuffled around. They got rid of
- 59:23Speaker 1: Aaron Savali. Honestly, I don't even know if I've really
- 59:26Speaker 1: got anything to cover from the Athletics to you.
- 59:29Speaker 2: I'm just sad that Colby Thomas never never panned out.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Thought I thought I was a big Colby Thomas guy,
- 59:35Speaker 2: and now he's tossed over to the Phillies and we'll
- 59:37Speaker 2: move on. So, Yeah, there's not a whole lot going
- 59:40Speaker 2: on here for the Athletics, beyond not knowing where to
- 59:43Speaker 2: name them, so we just put them number two exactly.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Okay, Well, some unthrilling wants to start with, and I
- 59:49Speaker 1: mean the third one is also not terribly thrilling, because honestly,
- 59:53Speaker 1: the Braves, for me, were one of the deadline losers.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Because you also want to talk about another franchise that
- 59:58Speaker 1: could have ponied up pretty easily for Tarik Schoble put
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: him right next to Chris Sayle as a dirty one
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: two punch in the playoffs and just kind of fell down.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: They didn't really acquire much of anything. So they shipped
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: out Eli White, they shipped out Joey Bart, they shipped
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: out Nacho Alvarez. Junior White went to the Red Sox
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: in exchange for Tyler Uberstein, a reliever. Joey Bart went
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: out to the White Sox Duncan Davitt for another depth arm,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Nacho Alvarez going to the Angels for Brent Suter, another reliever. There,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: you've got Tyler Molly coming in from the Giants in
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: exchange for Anthony Molina. And they then they picked up
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Lane Thomas and Bailey Falter from the Royals in exchange
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: for Lucas Brown and Carter Holton. What were the Braves
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: doing and any anything that you think could be fantasy
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: interesting guise for Lane Thomas, because that is one of
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: the guys who will be crossing that ALNL divide, so
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: is gonna have some intriguing in all only leagues and
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: was relatively hot for the Royals before this trade was
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: starting to get picked up even in like twelve teamers.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: But looks like he's going to be on the short
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: side of a platoon here for the Braves. So what's
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: your take on the situation in Atlanta.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Well, I think my big take is they really like
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: and dislike Joey Bark brought him in and send him out.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: But beyond that, yeah, I think Thomas is the most
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: interesting piece here. The question is does he you know,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: push like a Mauricio Dubon out of role or something
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: like that. I think he has the potential to do it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Lane Thomas has always been one of those guys we've
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: talked about him on this podcast so many times of
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: just being good, good enough at everything that he continues
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: to have fantasy relevance, but not the kind of guy
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: that you want to rely on. And so that's kind
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: of Lane Thomas. I think if he gets hot, he's
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: worth it, especially in an n L only league. I
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: think Tyler Mallley has has a little bit of intrigue here.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: He's definitely had some some pretty rough luck this year
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: for the Giants. Got a five thirteen ERA but you know,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: rocking a four h nine XCRA four thirty seven FIP
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: and a lot of that's come from some baby bluck
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: and left on base luck that's just not gone his way.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: That rotation is a lot thinner than I think people
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: realize with all the injuries that they've had and just
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: some of the young guys not making the impacts you
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: expected to have but haven't been. Ronaldo Lopez, Schwellenbach, Strider
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: all hurt, trying to figure out what you're gonna do
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: with Ms Shaver, Owen, Murphy, guys like that. They just
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: nobody's not all kind of worked out. So Molly slots
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: in as their number two or three here, which is
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: saying something. So he's also another interesting one for more
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: of a streaming perspective for me being at least in
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: a better team but maybe worse ballpark.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, and it is not great looking at that rotation.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Obviously they have some minor le depth, but man, if
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: the Braves don't go very deep into the playoffs, I
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: think lots of people are going to be pointing fingers
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: back at the front office for not making the moves
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: of the deadline to really put the finishing touches on
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: this team that's been running the table in the NL
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: East and might get caught from behind by the Phillies
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: if the rotation falls apart on them. Okay, the Baltimore Orioles,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: let's get to them next. One of the most active
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: teams during the deadline, and honestly, I think they had
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: a pretty good deadline. I mean don't know if I
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: would have trusted Mike Elllias to guide me through this deadline.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: As it appears the Orioles are kind of reselling and
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: turning into a bit of a rebuild again, which have
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: fun with that Pete Alonzo. But it was quite the list.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: So they picked up Cody Hueer from the Brewers for cash.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: They picked up Rhys Hines from the Marlins for cash.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: They picked up outfielder Christian Franklin from the Nationals for
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Joey Glassie. They reacquire Michael Farrett, a pitcher from the
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Rays who they traded him to the Rays for Shane
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Boz in the off season. Uh, but traded Tyler Wells
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: to get Fourrett. The big one. They shipped out Adley
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Retchman and Jake Rodgers to the Red Sox in exchange
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: for Anthony Anson, Carlos Narvaez and Esco s car As
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: as O car sorry and they asocr Yes and Kyson Witherspoon.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: So that's gonna be the big haul. You're getting catcher
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: nirvaas back and Witherspoon and Iansen, two of the top
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: arms in that Boston system back. Uh. Then they got
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: a poo poo platter back for Taylor Ward of Alex
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: hop brock Moore and Harrison Kreeling from the Mariners. They
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: traded out Dean Kramer for Joe Gamnardo Reyes from the
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: from the Twins and outfielder who they've mentioned him on
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Our Our Our Friend's Dynasty Baseball pickups. They've had some
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: intrigue on Reyes and really deep leagues, but is still
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: working his way through the Miners. They obviously picked up
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Jake Rogers before they sent him out, and a lot
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: of other kind of smaller back end trades. Obviously, the
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: big focus here is going to be the return for
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Adlee Ritchman getting back Ansen getting back Witherspoon, but don't
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: overlook for Ratt and Franklin's decent as well. Should be
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: joining the big league team. I believe Franklin as a
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: short side putoon player. Impacts on the big league squad
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: are that it really solidifies the rotation spot for Brandon
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Young going forward, you're going to be seeing I think
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: it shows that psio is going to be back relatively
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: soon at catcher, But otherwise the Brave or the Orioles
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: really didn't have too many extra holes to fill because
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: they had all those young players they've been shuffling around
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: and now they've just got full playing time, Like Dylan Beavers, So,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: what's your take here on the Orioles and what do
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: you see them doing going forward, especially with some of
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the favorite arms we've seen this season between Iansen and
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Witherspoon from the Red Sox.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the first point is something you touched on,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: which is, uh, they kind of have to let some
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: of these young guys run now in Baltimore, and so
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: this is your Kobe Mayo's, your Christian and Carassi and strands.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Dylan Beaver's Like, I'm interested to see what takes place
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: here because I think there's a ton of talent there
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: that they just they need the time to run and
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: see what they actually have. But you look beyond that.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Clearly the Adlie trades, the big one. Adlie just couldn't
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: live up to all the hype, and with Basillo there,
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: I think it was time to move on. That said,
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: they got a good return. They got a good return
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: for for adli Ironsen to me is the is the
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: gem here. He has flown up prospect lists this year.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: He's looked absolutely dominant. He He's gonna be at the
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: top of Amber of starting pitching list, and I'd say
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: probably one of the best five, uh, starting pitching prospects
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: in the Miners, and you can argue a lot of those.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I mean maybe once Kate Anderson gets out of there,
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: I don't really consider him the miners anymore because he
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: shouldn't be there. Witherspoon, I think is a bit more
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: of a gamble first rounder from last year, but he
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: doesn't have a whole lot of innings and the miners
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: under his belt, so definitely a further off than Iensen.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: I think Ianson's uh definitely in the conversation next year.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: So I think that's the big piece there is that
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: we got some young guys getting a run in the
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: major league roster, and then they did kind of reinforce
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: them that that pitching, which is which has continued to
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: be Baltimore's problem. It's not hitting has not been the problem.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: They have not developed their hitter as well, but they've
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: They've had plenty of them that have been talented. They've
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: just really struggled in that rotation with the guys like
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: Povich and uh Brydon Young, Bass, like they just don't
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: have that found it. Even bradish has been a little
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: rough this year or so, they this this is a
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: good move for him.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I agree. I think maybe the one thing
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: that concerns me a little bit with Ionsen Witherspoon and
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Fourrette ending up in Baltimore is, I don't know what
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: it is, but they've been slow cooking pitchers for a
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: couple of years now that they've been doing it with
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Brandon Young. They were doing it with Kate Povich for
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: a long time. They were doing it with Trey Gibson
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: and continue to do Trey Gibson. They've done with Luis
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: de Leone, and it's almost like they don't trust them
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: and they don't want them to mess up, and so
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: they're trying to protect them from the big leagues. And
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: maybe there's a little bit of like Michael Isis's ego
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: tied up in that too, where you know, he needs
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: to produce them pitching to be able to get this
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: team fully finished off and turned around, but hasn't been
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: able to do it. So that gives me a little
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: bit of a pause for Ionsen, Witherspoon and Florette, but
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I think the talent will come through. And Ironsen certainly
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: has not been quite as good at double A and
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: the velocity is ticked down a little bit and from
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: the big gains that he had earlier in the season.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: But I mean, part of it is he's just like
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: thrown so many innings compared to where he has in
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: the past, and you know, it's his first season in
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: any sort of professional environment, so you got to give
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: him a little bit of grace for that. But yeah,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: certainly big time haul for the all Orioles to be
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: able to rework a lot of that rotation going into
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. All Right, let's get to the Red Sox,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: who were on the receiving end of Alie Retchman obviously
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: as we talked about that, but they also picked up
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Eric Miller and Carlos Gudiers from the Giants in exchange
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: for Marcelo Mayer, which is a pretty big one. Picked
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: up Eli White, as we talked about, who should just
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: be a short slide platoon fourth fifth outfielder type. Picked
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: up Chris Mead, who we talked about last week. They
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: also had added Jamai Jones and Brett Harris for a
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: little bit of death. Let's focus on Adley here joining
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: the Boston Red Sox and gonna have extra control. So
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: he's going to be in Boston next year and currently
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: is on the IL right now with wrist inflammation, but
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: it should be relatively minor, and you would think that
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Adley should be back in the next week or two,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: right in the middle of that lineup. Great opportunity him
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: for him to reset his career. What do you think
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Richmond can do going forward with the Red Sox.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I he continues to be a guy
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: that when he plays, he does pretty well. Like he's
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: not like when he first came up. This was the
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: guy that we thought was gonna be a three hundred
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: hitter thirty homers, one hundred rbi every year, year in
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: year out. We thought like this next coming of Joe
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Mauer type thing, right, And because he has not quite
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: delivered on or not quite, he's not delivered on that
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: even when he's been not as good, it's I think
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: it's been overshadowed by the overall hype because even this
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: year sixty seven games, he's had eight homers, hitting for
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: two fifty one average forty seven rbis's good for one
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: fifteen w BRC plus. That's really solid for a full season.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: That that's a catcher hitting twenty plus homers, hitting two
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: point fifty probably could break ninety RBI. That's a really
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: really good catcher. Maybe not as flashy as some guys
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: that we've had. He's you know, we got the Drake
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Baldwin's got Dylan Dingler doing some crazy things, right, But
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: I still see him as an easy top ten catcher.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: And I think getting out of Baltimore, who just cannot
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: figure out how to develop a bat, going into Boston,
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: which is another team that hasn't been great developing bats,
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: but I still think it's an upgrade for him. I
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: think that this is a great reset. So I actually
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: think Rutchman is kind of a sneaky value going Intoto
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: next year just because he's been in a better lineup,
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: better spot. I think he's gonna have you better off season,
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: all those kind of things. So I'm I actually like this,
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: And to your points, he's got a few years of
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: time here before he's that free agent in twenty eight
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: and so this might be a match made in heaven
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: to a degree with the Red Sox.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean I think if you're looking for
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: you could have really found a much better landing spot
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: for Attlee Watchman, especially when you also add in that
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: like the Waltimore pushback in that park certainly started hurting him.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I think from a right hand perspective, now you go
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: to the full opposite side, where you've got one of
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: the easiest left field porches to be able to hit
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: homers and smack just line drives into the Green Monster
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: that I think you could see a pretty good average
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: boost from Adley. And as you said, it's a good lineup.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: They'll continue adding around him that Unlike the Orioles, the
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Red Sox are a little bit more on the Dodgers
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: end of the spectrum in terms of making sure that
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: the talent keeps coming and stays on the field. So yeah,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I think this is going to be a pretty big
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: up for Adlee. It'll just be fascinating to see where
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: that price settles in twenty twenty seven drafts, because I
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: could also see it going too far, you know, Red
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Sox tax as well as people, yeah, really taking this
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: hype and running with it. That's fair, Okay. The Chicago Cubs,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: another very active team, pretty much put together an entire
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: starting rotation at the deadline so early, you know, not
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: kind of within the days of the deadline. They picked
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: up Aaron Savali and David Peterson, but then they went
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: out and added Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor from the
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Mets for Jefferson Rojas. They picked up Braxton Garrett from
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: the Marlins for Jonathan Long and Jason Beck. They picked
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: up Kevin Goussman from the Blue Jays for Brett Bateman
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: and Tie South the scene, and they let go of
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Jamison Tyan and also added Ryan Zephyr John in exchange
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: for Moises by Steros and Mason McGuire. So let's focus
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: on the guys that came in here for the Cubs
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: as opposed to the ones that went out, because we'll
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: get to them when we talk about those other squads.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: I think, obviously the biggest name is Kevin Gusman. He's
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: been a little bit unsteady the past two months or
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: so with the Blue Jays. I dove into it at
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: BP recently, and a lot of it was dealing with
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: splitter location. He just was leaving and hanging in the zone,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: but has started to look a little bit better in
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: his latest outing, and we'll see if the Cubs can
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: continue that progress. Clay Holmes will be returning from his
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: broken leg and Brex and Garrett is currently in Triple
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: A but has been pitching there well down there, and
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: I imagine, I don't know, they've actually gone to a
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: six man rotation here in Chicago, so who knows if
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Garrett can find the daylight, but it's certainly in great depth.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Another kind of impact kind of fallout from this Zephyr
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: John will enter that closing committee there with Jacob Webb
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: and Trent Thornton as well as Cale Thielbar. I think
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: web is still the one to go with, but we'll
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: see if you have a different opinion. And also this
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: should open up very much a full time ish gig
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: for Pedro Miraz, who's been hitting really well and was
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: one of the main subjects of your piece this past weekend.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: So what's your take on the guys in Wrigleyville.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I look at the brand new rotation there.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: I think Gossman, you know, he's not been.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Perfect this year.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: But he's still been solid and he is a solid
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: veteran guy. Holmes, he's going to be back now and
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: he should slot in as a solid two three. Yes,
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Savali Peterson, Garrett like their their depth, and I think
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: the Cubs knew that. They just they've had a litany
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: of issues in that rotation, so they had to get,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: you know, have somebody come in uh and try try
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: to kind of close that. But between having Boy, Gossman
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: and Holmes, I think it's a solid top three now.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: I do think Zephyrigen has the potential to be the closure.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: I think he's got some pretty nasty stuff and so
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: I I think he's a guy that has opportunity to
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: kind of run away with that being the youngest guy
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: of that kind of bullpen mess. At the end of
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: the of the the bullpen for the Cubs, I think
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: they do want to rely on one guy, uh to
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: to really make it happen. So lots lots going on here,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: but I think that they made some really strong moves
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: just to do the one thing they had, which was
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: really anchor into that rotation. And they say they have
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: a good lineup, they have one of the best lineup.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: I would say the best, but they have some of
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: the best hitting and run production in the in the majors.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: They're you know, i'd say a top five lineup out there.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: So these pitchers are gonna gonna get a nice boost.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I'm maybe not quite as high end
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Zephyr John. It's just it's too many walks, Like it's
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: a lot, a lot of walks, you know, a career
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: thirteen point four percent rate, a fourteen point three percent
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: rate this year that I don't know if they're going
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: to give him the full on closer's mantle, but certainly
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: it's going to be a great, high leverage arm for strikeouts,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: a little bit wild, and I don't know if they're
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: going to quite go all the way of making him
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: the anointed closer. Gossman's going to be the fun one
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: crossing one the fun ones crossing the ALNL divide because
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: of just not only what he's done in the past,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: but like what can he do in the future. And
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: it is a good defense in Chicago behind him, especially
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: in that infield, So I'm intrigued to see what they
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: can do. But also there's a lot that's changed in
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Chicago where this is very anecdotal, But I feel better
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: if Gossman was in a situation where he was the
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: only new pitcher in town and the pitching coach and
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: staff and front office could focus on diving into what
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: was ailing Kevin Gouseman as opposed to trying to figure
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: out a game plan for an entire new rotation. And essentially,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: so that is maybe like the one kind of thing
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I'll throw out there with this Cubs team is that
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: like it might be too much new stuff and it
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: might kind of really throw things off a little bit.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: But you can't fault them for what they were doing,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: because I mean, I guess you can fault them a
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: little bit because they should have made some of these
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: moves in February where they should have been signing.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: Foster anytime prior to this exactly.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: They didn't need to be in this situation. And so
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: now they've they've already opened up that question of whether
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: or not it's too many new people because of what
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: they didn't do back in January and February. So we'll see.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: But should be a pretty strong playoff team on the
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: north side. Let's go to the south side because we're
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: going alphabetically and nice little fun trade deadline for the
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: White Sox, who two years ago almost at the all
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: time loss mark and now are buying at the deadline.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: The big buye was bringing in Luis Castillo from the
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Mariners in exchange for Sir Anthony de Mingez, outfielder Noah
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Jones and catcher Boston Smith. So they will get Castillo
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: for next year as well. So it was a little
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: bit of a salary exchange because Sir Anthony Dominguez is
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: also signed for next year, but that should give the
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: White Sox a pretty solid mid rotation piece for twenty
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: twenty seven as well as the rest of this year. Obviously.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: They picked up Joey Bart, as we talked about from
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: the Braves, who's now their starting catcher. They demoted Edgar Carro.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Bart should have full rain because I don't know if
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: TiO will get back, so that's a big question. They
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: picked up Brenton Doyle from the Rockies in exchange for
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Mason Adams and Carlos Vilma. Right now, Russ Resource has
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Doyle sitting out looking in at playing time as the
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: fourth outfielder. They also previously picked up hoose Erkidi. They
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: picked up Wasscar Brazerbond from the Mets. A lot of
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: little nice additions, I think for the White Sox, but
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: the big ones. Louis Castillo, I know we've been down
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: on him the past few years on this podcast. Do
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: you think there's a chance he could bounce back and
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: be worth rostering again in twelve teamers with the White Sox.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know that I'm too intrigued with KSTO here.
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: It's not like he's moving to like a way better
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: ballpark or a way better defense or anything like that.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: Like it, it feels relatively neutral or maybe even a downgrade,
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: because that Seattle is a pretty nice place to pitch,
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: you know. He just he just really struggles with a
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: little of that control and really having that outpitch. The
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: home the gopher ball is his downfall and I can
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: continue to be an issue for him. Is a guy
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: that just like likes to let everybody put it in
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: the air. So, yes, he had some luck issues, sure,
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: I just I don't see this going terribly well for Castio.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: He is an upgrade for the White Sox and for sure,
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: but they also had definitely a pretty thin group there
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: that they were trying to kind of get through, So
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: I like the moves on it from a baseball perspective
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: for a team that doesn't couldn't really mortgage the future
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: to try to go after this year because they know
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: they're on a razor's edge here. They're probably not the
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: division winning team where they're kind of sitting in the standings,
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: but they made some moves, plugged some holes, took some
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: gambles and guys like Doyle and Bart, and it'll be
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: interesting to see. I think your equity is actually an
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: interesting one because he's definitely got a lot of talent.
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: He's just been dinged up and hasn't quite found his way.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: So I think, to your point, lots of good little pieces,
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: nothing that I'm really like jumping up and down to
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: go play with him.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: From a fancy perspective, yeah, I think I'm right there
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: with you. The only kind of intriguing option is that
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: now I can maybe make use of that Joey Bart
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: collection that I put together in twenty twenty one and
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: just have a lot of twenty one Joey Bart cards
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: tucked away. So he's actually just entering ouritration. So he's
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: gonna be with the White Sox for at least another year,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: maybe they can turn it around for him. But yeah,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I think you nailed it. The big thing here is
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: that they didn't have to sell a lot of the future,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: and if anything, they kind of got the buying for
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven already out of the way, where they
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: needed just a guy who would show up and make
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: thirty to thirty two starts as a good veteran arm
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: like Luis Castillo, and so I think he'll be a
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: good fit for the actual real life baseball team from fantasy.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Still pretty mixed bag. I think yep. Okay, let's go
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: to Cincinnati, where it was a pretty muted trade deadline
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: for them. We already talked about Hector Rodriguez coming up.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Who's that reason he came up? Is because they dealt
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Nathaniel Lao Lao. No, that one's low.
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: Think this one's low.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: I think that's of Nathaniel Low to the Guardians in
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: exchange for an a ball pitcher, Alejandro Rivera. They also
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: sent out Caleb Ferguson also brought back in a separate trade,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: Juan Brito from the Guardians, which is a little bit intriguing.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: I'm just throwing it out there. He's had some good
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: years in the miners for the Guardians, but it's been
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: battling injury. But second base is kind of a hell
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: hole for the Reds and Brito could be right in
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: the middle of that. We talked about Hector Rodriguez already,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: So I don't know if there's a lot more intrigue
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: unless there's something on the Reds you want to add.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Nope, I think you've done a great job on the Reds.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: This is one of the few that really wasn't a
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: big but big deadline, and I think that's maybe the
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: story of anything. That folks expected the Reds to make
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: some move. They had guys like Suarez, Stevenson like guys
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: they probably should have moved, and they just kind of
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: stood pat. So I think disappointing deadline for the Reds overall.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Yeah, also shows you how much the rest of the
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: league really believes in Brady Singer because he's a free
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: agent after the year, and there was no Brady Singer chatter,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: so nope, nobody even wanted that. Let's move on to
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: those Cleveland Guardians. So, like I said, they picked up
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Nathaniel Lowe, who should be entering the lineup every day
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: because to make room for him. They demoted Kyle Manzardo
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: and David Fry to clear way for Low should be
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: the every day first baseman or you know a little
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: bit of dh here and there. They also picked up
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: Joe Adele from the Angels in exchange for pitcher Jerk
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: Jacob Cozart. They picked up Blake Perkins and Craig Yoho
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: from the Brewers in exchange for Bo Naylor and Cody Huer.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: So Hure got moved twice actually and ultimately settled in
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: I already forgot where Baltimore if you were paying attention there,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: because he got shipped to Milwaukee, then shipped to Baltimore.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: So he had a couple stops and that really a
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: couple of other small Oh I almost missed our boy
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: Foster Griffin, my bad, who was been a favorite of
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: mine this year. That was another when pitchers Will Dion
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: and Josh Hardle are the big returns there for the Nationals,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: along with a couple of other pieces. So lots of
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: stuff here going on in Cleveland. Low has been pretty solid.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Actually has another corner infield option. Joe Adell has been
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: doing Joe Adell things, and you've got Foster Griffin entering
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: one of the best starting pitching situations in all of
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: the league in terms of pitching development. So what's your
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: take on those three players joining at the Guardians. Yeah,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: I mean definitely for Low and Griffin. For AL only league,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: these are gonna be some priority ads. I think Low
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: is an intriguing corner infielder. I think he ends up
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: in a little bit better position than he was previously.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: I think Griffin is the big call out here to
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: your point, better situation, better development package, and he doesn't
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: have to carry that rotation that's a deep rotation. I
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: wouldn't say it's like a top heavy rotation by any means.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Messik has been solid, Kevin Williams has actually been fantastic,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: but can Tino bib Like those guys across the board,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: they just have really solid young pitchers. I mean that
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: those guys average age is like twenty six years old.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: So Griffin's now the elder statesmen coming here, being the
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: thirty one year old joining that group. But I think
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: that they can get a.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Lot out of him, and knowing that they are in
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: a spot in the standings that it's just them and
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: the White Sox that are really battling here for the
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: central and I'm sorry, Twins and Tigers, I'm kind of
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: dismissing you, but I don't know that you're really going
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: forward either. Well, the Twins, we'll talk, But I think
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: that this has kind of separated for me as the
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: favorites in that division the rest of the year, because
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: they just seem like a better team top to bottom.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and also, I mean they've got a strong bench
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: now with Austin Hedges, Reet Haskins, Gabriel Arius and not
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: how Martinez. The question mark though for the Guardians is
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: Jose Ramirez. I think has come back too fast from
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: that handmade injury, and that's going to be the make
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: or break question. I think for the guards the rotations there,
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: but if they don't have a fully healthy Hosi Ramirez,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I don't know if they've gotten a juice in that
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: lineup to make it past the White Sox unfortunately. But yeah,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: you can't complain if you had Foster Griffin if this,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: if anything, it's an upgrade because now he's not facing
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: the Phillies, now he's not facing Atlanta, and now even
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the Mets. I get a little bit of a braid
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: up every once in a while when he was out
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: there throwing much easier division to throw Foster Griffin in
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: pretty much becomes like a set and forget starter for
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: the rest of the year for me. With the Guardians, yep,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I agree. Okay, Colorado Rockies actually doing some work at
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: the trade deadline. Look at this. They were involved in
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: multiple trades. They picked up Connor Norby and Aiden May
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: in exchange for Victor Vodnik from the Marlins. They sent
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: out Antonio Senzatela for couple of players from the Brewers,
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: Mark Man, Freddie and Juan Martinez. They shipped out Brenton
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Doyle as we alluded to. They also shipped out, you know,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: the week before, Seth Halverson for Nick Frasso and Landon
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: fired Videruk. I don't know if I'll have to really
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: worry about Landen too much in the future. Sorry, so
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: which could go down. Honestly, it's a pretty terrible trade
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: because Halferson throws heat and the Dodgers I think jumped
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: all over that. Maybe the one to call out is
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Connor Norby. You've had interest in Connor Norby in the past,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: But it does give me a little bit of like
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Edward Julian vibes here where you know, I think there
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: is a little bit of intrigue. But I think the
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: allure of a hittery you've previously had interest in from
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: a prospect perspective, going to Colorado probably outstrips the actual
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: value for Norby. But what do you think?
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right like it. It's like, on the surface value,
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: this one's like man Connor Norby, like he's he's got
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: some hidden pop here. He could do some damage. You
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: put him in Colorado. That's it's a thirty Homer bat right.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: It's it's not but like you can, you can dream
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: on it two degrees. So that's the one here I'm watching.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Almost everything else doesn't really do much for me. We'll
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: talk about how we'll probably wont to talk about how Verson
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: of the Dodgers, But I do think you're right that
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: one's a little steaky there, that there's a there's an
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: upside there. I'm surprised he didn't hang on to him,
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: But I think Norby's gonna gonna get get little a run,
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: a little playing time. Uh. The Rockies have seemed to
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: be a spot for some post hype guys to to
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: do something so I'm not picking him up. I'm not
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: rushing to grab him, but I definitely am giving a
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: good watch to Connor Norby here to see if he
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: gets a little reset getting out of Miami and get
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: into a new environment, a new thin air environment, and
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: see if that's gonna let that that power power eat
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and not too much of an impact on the
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: big league roster there. For the Rockies, Doyle was already
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: kind of in a fourth outfield position and they called
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: up Jordan Beck to refill that position. Now, so you
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: know something, keep in mind if any other outfielder goes
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: down there in Colorado, that Jordan Beck is, you know,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: one hamstring away from a full time job again with
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: the Rockies. Let's go to the Detroit Tigers, who you
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: know we've talked about. They were the movers and shakers
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: here because of three Scooble and you know also might
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: have just wrecked the twenty twenty seven baseball season for
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: us all by sending him to the Dodgers. But in
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: exchange they got back that your hope at River Ryan
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: and Brady Smith. Hope is going to be obviously the
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: big intriguing piece here because that could give them an
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: outfield next year of Hope, Max Clark and Riley Green,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: which would be up there I think in terms of
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: outfield pedigree. They also sent out CAZy Casey Miz and
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: gauge workmen to the Padres in exchange for Cash Mayfield
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: and Jackson Wolf a couple of arms there. Cash Mayfield's
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: got certainly some intrigue, but is still in the lower
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: levels of the miners. They've also sent out a couple
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: of other small trades we talked about in terms of
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: Jami Jones, Jake Rogers, Wusuck Go, Matt Seelinger, but all
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: of them were really small and really the prospects coming
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: back not really significant from a lineup perspective. The lineup
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: itself is pretty unvarnished, but the rotation will now probably
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: be including like a bullpen day every day. They've got
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: Drew Anderson slotted in currently for roster resource. He was
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: kind of a swing band anyway. I do have intrigue
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: in Anderson if he gets stretched out more and is
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: starting a little bit more, But otherwise this has been
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: the problem for the Tigers all year. They haven't had
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: any pitching depth, I imagine. Sorry Gibson, Long probably comes
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: up to fill in that other rotation spot, but Jack
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: Flaherty Jackson Job will be back from the ale pretty soon.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: In Job especially should be back this week. It'll be
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: kind of a question of how many innings they'll be
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: able to stretch him for. So what's your read here
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: on the Tigers.
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there's a lot of little interesting pieces,
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: but I think that the big the big move clearly
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: is the school trade with with Zeyer, Hope and River
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: Ryan coming in. I agree. I think Hope he's pretty
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: much done what he needs to do in the minors.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: I still think he's raw to a degree still twenty
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: one year old in Double A, but seems to have
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: not had a whole lot of issue at that level.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: So I think he's gonna gonna be I don't think
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: he's gonna break camp next year, but I think he's
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: gonna definitely be a guy that is forcing the issue,
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: you know, mid season next year. And there's a lot
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: to like at this profile long term. River Ryan, we'd
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: kind of mentioned he is on the older side here.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: He's he actually turns twenty eight like a week and
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: a half, but he's been hurt as soon as he
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: gets healthy. I think he's plugged in right in the
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: middle of that rotation. And frankly, like, I think he's
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: a steaky value going going forward because he's you know,
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: he's pitched well whatever, healthy, Like, he just hasn't had
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: an opportunity. He's been the wrong system, and he was
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: an absolutely late bloomer as far as the Dodgers are concerned.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: So I think those two are the big big gets here.
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: This team has a lot of holes, and so I'm
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: not sitting here investing across a lot of the rest
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: of the team like Flaherty or anybody else there. So
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: hope's the big one. Ryan. I think he could give
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: you some value this season. The rest is kind of
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: playing out next year.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: Yeah, river Ryane can also be a sneaky kind of
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: al only pick up because he is on the I L.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: But I also I don't know when he's going to
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: be back off the I L. That's kind of like
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: his mo so, but if he does make it to
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: a mount like it is nasty stuff, So I don't
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: you're not probably gonna get him for like absolutely nothing
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: in an Ale only fab run. But I think if
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: you go a little bit above that, I think you'd
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: be surprised at how cheap River Ryan might still come across,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: because he is on the IL and he's not going
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: to be useful right away, but certainly worth adding and
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: stashing if you've got the space.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Okay, let's go to the Houston Astros, who have moved
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: into first place in the Al West and bought at
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: the deadline. Really only made one move, picking up Dalton
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: Varshow in exchange for Spencer Raghetty. And it was a
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: very much needed Dalton Varshow because they had been working
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: with a load bearing Lamont Way junior for a while
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: before bringing in var Show, and he should slot right
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: into center field for them. That's the other thing they've
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: been missing on this Astro squad actually for ever, Like yeah,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: it was something that had really since George Springer like
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: kind of lost that extra step and you might be wondering, like, hey,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: isn't the issue for the Astro has been starting pitching
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: why this shipping out Spencer Agedty? Well, one Aragedty's not
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: that great and two Hayden wes Neski and Kristin Javier
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: have recently come back along with Bronel Blanco, so they
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: do have a full enough rotation that they actually put
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: a May into the bullpen for now, where he looked
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: really good on Monday, that they might find some success
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: kind of allowing you mind to focus in shorter stints
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: out of the bullpen. They've also got Miguel Uyolo and
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: Kaiwai Tang, Jason Alexander, those types of guys down there.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: But Ethan Peco has been pitching out of his mind
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: down at Triple A for the Astros, So I think
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: that's where they're going to turn if they run into injury.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Varshow obviously pretty much the only move they made here,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: But what's your take overall on the situation in Houston
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: between adding Varshow, who's now their clean up hitter, and
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: the rest of their rotation.
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Varshow to your point, was like, there's
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: probably was not a better player to insert into this team.
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: They have struggled time and time again at center field.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: That is a tough ballplay to place in our field,
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: and var Show is one of the best. He's also
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: just a steady, steady presence. He he does great getting
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: on base and kind of causes a little bit of havoc.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: He's still got a little speed, a little pop, like
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: he just does everything a little bit, a little bit
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: better than the next guy, and so I and he
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: also has that kind of grit to him which is
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: completely irrelevant for the fantasy game, but from a pure
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: real world like, he's a great get here that rotation.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: I agree with you that sending Spaghetti out was was
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: not a problem at all, just because you know there's
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: a ton of upside there, but it's it's very volatile.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: I'm concerned with this rotation beyond Hunter Brown though, like
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: I think Wesnewski is is intriguing Javier, I feel like
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: we've been on this train before. Lambert and Blanco not
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: too intrigued in So, like, this lineup actually is a
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: lot stronger, I think than people realize. I think cam
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: Smith's better than he's he's been. I think Paina is
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: better than he's been, and so there's really not a
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: whole lot of holes in that lineup. But they've got
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: pretty much one starter that you can rely on, and
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: that's what I think is going to be going to
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: be the issue for him going forward. So I'm a
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: little surprised that they didn't try to do something with
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: that rotation. Maybe they did try to. You never know
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: what actually took place, but I think that they really
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: needed another strong arm. This would have been the spot
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: for a Gosman or somebody else like that to fit in,
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: and I'm surprised that they didn't. They didn't make that play. Granted,
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: they don't necessarily have a strong farm system to go from.
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: I think Houston and San Diego are like lining up
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: for the worst farm system in the majors here. San
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: Diego may have just taken the crown on that one.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: Thanks a j. Preller for sitting out like three or
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: your top few here. We'll talk about it. But yeah,
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: I think they're a decent team. I think they're missing
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: some pitching them.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: Yep, I think that's all fair. Next team on the
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: list the City Royals, where you know we talked about
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: them shipping out Lane Thomas and Bailey Falter. The biggest
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: get there will be Lucas Braun and he is in
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: TRIPAA is not on the forty man. But the Royals
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: do have an open rotation spot because also over the
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: weekend they lost Linda Alvila went down and is already
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: like slated for Tommy John surgery. It was very very
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: quick that they knew what he needed. So that has
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: also allowed Randy Dobnik to move into the rotation full time.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: And I don't think Bron's probably too far off. They
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: also sent out Chris Bubich to the Dodgers in exchange
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: for Carlos Deran, and they sent out Cameron Meisner to
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: the Phillies. Nothing really too crazy from the lineup perspective.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: This team is real bad. So I think from both
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: a streaming bats against them and string pictures against them,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: it's going to be a pretty big time target it
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: in Kansas City. What do you think?
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you've got a pretty strong top three
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: or four bats in here, like between Jensen with cac
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: Leione and Perez. I mean, forgive me, but did you
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: see his triple that he was it just yesterday or
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: the day before? Oh? Please please find it. It's it's
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: it's a cinematic TV. I'm surprised he can still run
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: to first base like Perez. Looks like he's pretty much
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: coached at this point in time. And this rotation is
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: is pretty rough. The bullpen even rougher. Uh So there's
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: there's not much going on here. If anything, I'm a
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: little surprising Mumitch, but there wasn't much reason to hold
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: on to him, so I thought that there was maybe
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: some a chance they try to get him back and
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: keep him in the fold, because when he's healthy, he's
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: a pretty solid, solid player. But not much going else
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: else here for the Royals. Pretty rough situation.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Yep, Okay, well in rough situation except for I mean,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: their deadline was pretty good. I think the Lost Angels
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Angels where honestly John is Sela cooked here a little bit.
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: Where sure they're still sitting on Reed dett Meer's but
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: he was able to ship out Jose Soriano surprisingly to
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: the Blue Jays, but brought back Argin Namala, who just
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: we talked about last week last week. Yeah, and so
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: he should be the number one prospect now in the
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Angel system and has a good chance to move quickly
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: just because it's the Angels. Eddie Mitchelletti and on Hell
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: Rivero also came back in that deal. They got back
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: Jake Cozart, a pitcher from the Guardians in exchange for Odell.
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: They got Nacho Alvarez Junior back from the Braves for Suitor,
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: which I've lot, I've liked Nacho Alvarez in the past,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: but it is a very like Luis Arisian patting approach
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: with a stone glove to picked up moises by Asteros
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: and Mason McGuire. McGuire is a the son of Mark McGuire,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: a reliever, but bias Teros is going to be the
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: full time DH. They cut J. S. Hilaire today as
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: well as they're letting Biasteros figure it out at DH
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: for two straight months. For the Angels, it's gonna be
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: I think, a pretty big target in ale only leagues
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: because of that, because he's going to get the actual
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: volume sent out Kirby Yates in exchange for Kyle Robinson,
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: a pitcher from the Pittsburgh Pirates, and then a couple
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: of days before the deadline, they'd shipped out Chase Silseth
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: and Logan o'happy to the Rangers for on hell Rodondo.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: That's mostly like, hey, get rid of Logan o hoppy
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: so we don't have to worry about him anymore. But
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: a nifty little trade deadline I think for the Angels
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: restocked this farm system a little bit as well as
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: taking some shots on guys who weren't getting full time
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: at their current locations, but have had prospect intriguing in
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: the past. So what's your read on some of these
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: new Angels.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Lamal is the big one there coming in.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: It'll be interested also to see Biasteros, to see if
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: there is truly something here. There's been a I think
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: I feared he's a quada player, and there's not much
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: better a quad A team than the Angels, so if
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: it's well, I mean, the biggest thing I take away
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: here is Mozaylac and this is coming from being a
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: Cardinals fan of over the years. The guy drove me nuts,
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: but he actually came in and did some things and
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: like this it was still an Angels deadline, but they
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: actually made some moves that made logical sense. And I
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: mean they still had to throw in him Aguire in
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: there to like get some oddity because it feels like
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: how they not do that. So I think this was
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: a strong deadline for them, not a whole lot long term.
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: I think mallag maybe gets a little downgrade just because
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: we've been the system has been so hard developing prospects.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: But I'm excited to see what happens with a few
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: of them, to see if they get a full run
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: because they have better paths than the Majors than they
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: did on most of the other teams.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: They're coming from. YEP. I think that's all very fair.
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Let's go a little bit up that I five Highway
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: to the Los Angeles Dodgers where they picked up two catchers.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: They because of what we talked about in terms of
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: the injury to Dalton Rushing, and also have Will Smith
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: on the io. Hunter Fiduccia came back from the Rays
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: along with Jacob Kamatz in exchange for Jack Swinsky in
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: some international bonus pool. Bunny. We'll talk in Swinsky when
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: he gets when we get to the Rays, because the
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Dodgers Dodgers to him for sure. They also brought back
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: Ben Wertvett, who also was an X ray too, so
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: brought him back from the Mets in exchange for Chase McDermott.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: You might remember that name. He was a bigger prospect
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: back when he was in Baltimore system, but is now
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: just a reliever at this point. So nothing terribly intriguing there.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Got Suth Halverson, as we talked about, talked about Chris
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: Bubich joining this team from the Royals, which I do
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: want to call that one out because if you're in
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: like A, I'm some of these leagues where actually there's
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: value in high K per nine, save holds, guides like
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: put up like an inning or two because those are
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: categories that either in the head to head or in
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: the rod So Boobitch could be an intriguing pickup in
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: some leagues that are like that, where you've got saveholds
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: and innings are consideration because guys who can strike out
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: players from the left side are real big targets in
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: those types of leagues. And then obviously saving the big
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: one for last week Schooble that we talked about in
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: exchange for Hope, Ryan and Smith, because Scooble's joining the rotation,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: they are bumping out and Shehan, who's already been shipped
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: down to triple A, probably was dropped in most leagues
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: anyway because she has been real rough recently. So what's
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: your take here on the Dodgers and the impacts of
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: their moves.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the Dodgers doing Dodgers things here, Like
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: buobitch is a dart throw, He'll be interesting. I like
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: your call out there. He's intriguing for some of those
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: deep reliever type of values. Halverson is like one of
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: the best fastballs in the majors. That's maybe all he is.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: But they love trying to take those types of projects.
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: And we talked about scoobl earlier, but I think it
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: really comes down to what he does in that rotation,
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: and part of it is not about Scuoble at all.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: But the guys that are actually making an impact of
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: this rotation are not the guys you would have expected.
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: Roki Sasaki has looked really good, and that's I think
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: doing some things to to the Dodgers of like where
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: is he is he ultimately going to be a bullpen arm?
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: Is he ultimately going to be a back and starter?
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: What's this going to be? Clearly they're waiting for some
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: health to come through here with the likes of glass now,
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: so I think they've set themselves up for probably the
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: best one two in the game between Yaomodo and Scuball,
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: and then there's got like this race for the third guy,
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Like is glassdown going to be healthy enough to be
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: that that that guy? And what's gonna happen with the
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: rest of these these young youngins. I am disappointed to
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: see Sheehan demoted. He's he's pitched better than his numbers
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: this year, quite a bit better than his numbers this year,
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: but things, for whatever reason just haven't come together. So
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: hoping he gets down to the to the to the
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: miners figures that is out and we don't have another
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: Bobby Miller situation on our hands where things look so
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: fantastic and then they just were never So, yeah, Dodgers
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: will Dodgers. Schooble's the big, the big take here World
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: Series favorites for sure.
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: Yes, I think so as well. Okay, next team, we
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: have Miami Marlins, who were involved in a lot of
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: littler trades, did not There was no really chatter of
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Cindy al Contra, which is kind of surprising, but I
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: guess he also does have a they have a club
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: option on him for next year that I wonder if
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: they saw enough intrigue in the way that the Marlins
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: have performed this year that the front office thinks they've
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: got a shot at next year making a wild card run.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: So maybe they want all Contra around for that, But
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: they may, like like I said, made a lot of
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: little moves. Pick up Victor Vadnik from the Rockies, for
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: Norby in May. The intriguing move, probably from an actual
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: comeback on the prospect side, is Jonathan Long came back
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: from the Cubs in exchange for Braxton Garrett, which I
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: think we should probably talk about. They did also pick
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: up Brayden Taylor, Adrian Santana, and Jacob Kissing from the
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: Rays in exchange for Liam Hicks. Pretty great capitalization on
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: a Rule five pick there. In terms of Liam Hicks,
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: Braiden Taylor has had his ups and downs within the
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Rays organization, but should slot in to the
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: mix probably next year for them on the corner, so
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: somebody to watch some of the fallout from the rest
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: of the roster. Augustin Ramirez is back up now with
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: this team currently a roster resource has him slated to
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: be the backup catcher, but I think he might carve
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: out time at DH, you know, especially as they find
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: some ways to move around that outfield, shuffle the outfield
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: a little bit. And Jacob Marcy's back has also been
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: barking a little bit the past few days too, so
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: something to consider there. Otherwise, rotation stays the same bullpen,
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: pretty much the same pecking Gord Victor Vodnik does not
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: really play into the safe picture, even though he did
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: in Colorado. So what's your take here on Miami and
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: some of the prospects they got back, especially Jonathan Long,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: because he's sometimes been a hot name, but I've never
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: been a huge fan. I want to get your take
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: on him.
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know that Jonathan Long is terribly exciting.
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: I think he's he's one of those fifth outfielder types
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: from a fantasy perspective, where like he might be something,
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: but he's never going to be the guy that I'm
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: you're really targeting. He's he's going to be a decent batting,
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: average type of guy, good play, discipline. I think obp
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: leagues is really where his money's gonna be made. And
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: he's got middling power, so like just your average average
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: guy coming up, and that feels very Marlin's esque. I
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: think that's really where Long Long lands. I really think
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: the big the bigger thing with the Marlins here is
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: that they tried to clear the deck a little bit
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: by moving on from Garrett and Norby a few of
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: those guys Hicks, just to get some other guys playing time.
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: I think you're right, Augusta Ramirez is probably the ideal
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: d H here. Roberto Hernandez is kind of pegged in there,
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: but he's been playing well enough that I think he
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: might steal some time from Casey or honestly, Marcy love
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: the guy, but man, he's he's been rough this year.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: So I think that some of these guys are going
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: to get some longer playing time. They also have a
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: number of platoon kind of bats like Griffin Conine that
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: has been hitting really well, but there's gonna be plenty
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: of a basket go along, So I think really clearing
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: the deck and seeing what happens with some of these
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: other young guys is really the story here With the Marlins,
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: pretty much nobody coming over actually does much for me
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: on this team.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think I'm there with you as well.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: So Milwaukee Brewers are next, and I think this is
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: another team that have pretty disappointing deadline in my eyes,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: just because you know, this is what they've been doing
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: now for the past what three or four years. Great
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: in the regular season because it works in terms of
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: the depth and making sure that they're not giving up
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: zeros anywhere, but the heights of the roster aren't quite there.
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: And I think this is especially disappointing considering like you've
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: got the Miz on the mound for twice in a
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: seven game series, like it's miz and who is the
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: part of the problem, Like Logan Henderson certainly has been good,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: but it's a different it would be a different atmosphere.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: I think if they had brought in Schooble where, you know,
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: it would have harkened a lot back to when they
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: brought in CC Sabatia and the magic of that run.
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: That they've got so much prospect capital, and they just
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: kind of of seemed to sit on it because really
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: the only one that they dealt out from the top
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: of their kind of list was Alexander Fries to the
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: Cardinals in Division in exchange for Dustin May and Jojo Romero.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: They also treated Josiah Ragsdale in that trade. Otherwise, really
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: the only thing that came back was Antonio since Tella
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: bow Naylor, Cody Hoyer, who they then sent out, and
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: Cody or bow Naylor himself is nothing special at this point,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: not even probably going to be on the big league
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: team down the stretch because they've got Gary Sanchez behind
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: William Contrere's there, So certainly Dustin Main is a decent
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: get and I think he's going to do well in Milwaukee.
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: Also will look pretty cool I think in some of
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: the just the the uniforms there, with his big puffy
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: red hair, but also a little bit of a coup
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: for the Cardinals to be able to get Alexander Friaz
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: out of this Milwaukee system. So what's your take on
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: the Brewers here?
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you're right that the Brewers
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: their issue is that they're they're short on star power.
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: It's hard to say that with Misserowski in Cheerio, but
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: they have a lot of guys that are just really
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: good role players and contributors or are still trying to
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: find their spot kind of guys. With your Louis Lara's
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: and Cooper Prats coming up, you got your Terrans and
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: Jake Bauers kind of guys. With William Contreras is kind
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: of taking a step back, Yellows is still as a
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: shell of himself. They've got a really good lineup, but
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: not a great lineup. I think Dustin May was actually
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: a really good get for them here because with Miserowski,
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: Henderson and even Robert Guesser. I think those guys could
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: do some damage in the postseason. I don't, but they
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: have to get there and they need some depth to
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: do it because they were really thin in the rotation
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: beyond those kind of guys. With losing Woodriff and Priester
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: and Harrison like that, that was really the issue for them.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: So I think Dustin May is a good get. Joseh
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: Romero coming overs and also helped that that bullpen, but
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: pretty much of everything else coming over didn't really change
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: their outlook. And we'll talk about free us in Risedale
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: w we get to the Cardinals here, but I'm pretty
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: sure the Brewers fans aren't too happy about that. That
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: deal all up at this.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: Point, Yeah, especially interdivision. It's very strange to see that. Okay,
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins very lightly buying here at this deadline, but
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: it was a buying and mostly they were building out
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: the bullpen. They picked up aj Mentor from the Mets
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: for Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani, who I believe is
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: related to Benny Agbayani.
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: He is like kind of remember how but he definitely.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: Is yes and is out of Honolulu, Hawaii there too.
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: So I mean not necessarily a big time prospect, but
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: we'll be in that met system now where Agbayani also
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: came through, which would be kind of fun. They double
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: tapped the Blue Jays for paral levers. They got Tommy Nantz,
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: then came back and got Jeff Hoffman, but they sent
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: out a decent haul for Hoffman, Desaun Hill, John Klein,
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: Murray Pana there also picked up Dean Kramer from the
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Orioles in exchange for John Nardo Reyes. I got to
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: say it again, so that'll be a little bit of
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: a loss from their system going forward because he's actually
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: got some intrigue, an eighteen year old Dominican that will
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: be working his way through the system now in Baltimore. Really,
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: the biggest intrigue to discuss is is Jeff Hoffman the
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: closer for you now in Minnesota that u Andres Gomez
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: has been holding down the job has looked shaky here
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: and there, but has been decent at it and Jeff
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Hoffman has had his ups and downs this season, but
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: it's currently looks like he's on an up. So if
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: you had to choose one for most saves in that Minnesota,
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: Polpan the rest of the year. Is that Hoffman or Gomez?
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's To me, it's pretty pretty clear
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: of this Hoffman Gomez has. He feels like the guy
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: that's just on his last leash at all points in time.
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: And I what was his uh pip was? I think
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: pretty pretty gustur and scary here four and a half
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: actually five thirty six. So I think, you know, he's
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: been better, I'd say throughout the portion of the season
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: that he's been with the Twins, because he was also
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: with Tampa Bay and he's he's made some good adjustments.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: But we're talking about u x are of four Phipps
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: on that three to zero range mid nineties fastball versus Hoffman,
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: who just he's a little bit of a wild child,
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: but he he can make things happen. I think he's
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: just more dominant presence on the mounds. So I think
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: Hoffman's the kind of go to here and he's the
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: guy to be trusting for the saves. And I think
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: he's got I saw some interviews with him. He's got
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: a little chip on his shoulder now uh with uh
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: with with against the Blue Jays here, and so I
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: think he's gonna to come in hot and hot and
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: heavy for the for the Twins.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Yep, I think that's all fair. And then yeah, maybe
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: one other thing to consider is Zebbie Matthews got demoted
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: to make room from Dean Kramer. But the Twins are
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: just going to be flip flopping those guys, I think
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: the rest of the way, because they're both kind of
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: right on the fringe of being big league starters right now.
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the New York Mets, who
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: I think they did pretty well at this deadline all
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: things considered, and reloaded just enough within the minor league
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: ranks to be able to point them in the right
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: direction for next year. So, like I said, they shipped
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: out aj Minter to the Twins. They also shipped out
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Wasker Brozabon to the White Sox, as we mentioned, for
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin. They shipped out Brooks Rayley
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: to the Phillies for a couple of minor leaguers Luke
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: Gabriisch and John Spikerman. I think most of those dudes
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: they shipped they got back for those relievers aren't going
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: to be too much. They did get back Sammy Steffura
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: from the Pirates for Luke Weaver, which I think has
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: a little more intrigued. Steffura has been a pretty solid
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: infielder coming through the Pittsburgh system and you know, really
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: could turn into something useful, I think, so somebody to
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: keep an eye on. While they also traded their what
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: was supposed to be their number one start this year
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: but has really fallen apart. Freddy Peralta went out to
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: the Rays, Aden Smith, Amelian Petrie, and Gary gil Hill
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: coming back. Gil Hill's probably the biggest name there, although
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: I think his upside is pretty limited in the big leagues.
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: It is going to be a little bit more of
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: like an Inning Zeter, a little bit of like an
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: Adrian Hauser type. I think sent out Ben Rhtvett as
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: well for Chase McDermott sent out Clay Holmes and Tyrone
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: Taylor to the Cubs from Jefferson Rojas, which is probably
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: the biggest win for them, getting a solid and intriguing
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: shortstop middle infielder option in Rojas, who's been and heating
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: up pretty well for the Cups as the season has
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: been going on too. So what's your take here for
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: the Mets.
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it kill right. I think, you know,
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: Rojas and maybe Aiden Smith are kind of the the
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: bigger prospect gets here, But I don't know that either
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: of them are guys that I'm like really high on.
- 1:58:19Speaker 2: I think Smith is a longer term project. I think
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: Rojas has maybe the higher upside, but both guys I
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: think definitely need a season or two more to kind
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: of figure out what they're gonna be. I think the bigger,
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: bigger story for the Mets here is that they dealt
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: with some dollars on this book and moving some things
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: off that they just didn't want to be involved with anymore,
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: which is important because this this team has bloated from
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: a payroll perspective. It was some bad contracts and it's
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: gonna it's a few years that they need to work
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: through this. You know, Louis Robert should be off the
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: payroll after this year, unless they decide to extra size
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: that twenty million dollars club option, which I wouldn't expect.
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: But you're sitting at fifty seven million on one so
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: next year, forty two on Bobo, chet, thirty four on
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: the Door, twenty six pillion on Marcus Simeon, twenty three
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: on our Hite Pilanco. They got some bad, bad, big
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: contracts here and they had to they had to move
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: from guys uh to free up some of those fun
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: So I think this was more of trying to clear
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: house and reset this team because they've got guys on old,
- 1:59:30Speaker 2: bad contracts that are that are going to be kind
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: of dragging this this team down. So overall, nothing like.
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: I think it was a good deadline for them, just
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: to clear house and do what they need to do.
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: Got some decent prospects back that I think have some
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: long term potential. But outside of I said I think
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: Rojas might be the biggest get here, I still think
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: there's a lot of questions on what he he becomes.
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: And I mean this is only a guy that's got
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: just under UH. This was around five hundred bats at
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: double A over the last two seasons. Really struggled there
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: in twenty five. It's done pretty well this year, but
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: I think still has a ways to go from a
- 2:00:08Speaker 2: maturity perspective.
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: Yep, I'm right there with you. So the New York
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: Yankees were taking the subway just up the road and
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: it was limited but impactful. I think deadline for them,
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: you know, they trade out Camulodvalla to the Pirates for
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: a couple of minor leaguers, and they also brought in
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: Elliott Ramos from the Giants in exchange for pitcher Henry
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: l Lane, which was a big, big send out, big prospect.
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: We'll talk about him a little bit more. I think
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: when we get down to the Giants and Kayden Kent.
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: They also acquired Luis Garcia Junior from the Nationals to play.
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: It looks like first base going forward for Yovannie Cruz,
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: Jack Severt, Ben Grabile and Jake Bird, where honestly, that's
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: the Nationals just needed bullpen arms like period and that's
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: essessie with the Yankees scent in exchange for Louis Garcia Junior,
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: which is a little bit sad if you're the Nationals,
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: but Severt and Bird, you know, I think we're probably
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: the biggest gets there with Jack Sebert honestly has some
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: potential rotation impact. So because of that, the Yankees actually
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: have a little bit more to discuss from the actual
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: lineup changes. You know, this is why they part of
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: the reason why I think they made the shuffle with
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: Anthony Volpi sending him down. There's a good time to
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: just make that swap out, but they also sent down
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: Jason Dimingez to me able to make room for Elliott
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: Ramos and then also sent down Max Schuman to be
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: able to make sure that the roster spot for Louis
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: Garcia Junior. Garcia Junior should be the three hitter every day,
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: Ramo should be the four hitter every day going forward.
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: So they acquired the middle of their lineup to make
- 2:01:54Speaker 1: up for Judge and Bellinger being out. What do you
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: think about Garcia and ram Else going forward? Where I
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: think Louis Garcia Junior is already homered is gonna be
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: a great, great fit for that short porch I think
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: in Yankee Stadium.
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll start with Ramos just because I'm not too
- 2:02:13Speaker 2: intrigued one way or the other. Like, definitely got a
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: power bat there, Gonna be in a strong lineup, better field,
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: So I think a little up arrow overall. But he's
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: he's the bridge, He's not the solution on that team.
- 2:02:27Speaker 2: They're hoping for other things to work out and have
- 2:02:29Speaker 2: Ramos more in kind of a plug and play bench perspective,
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: I think is where they're actually going to be happy with.
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: But for now, with over injuries. He's gonna be right
- 2:02:38Speaker 2: in the middle of that lineup, and he does have
- 2:02:40Speaker 2: enough pop that they can be they can be dangerous,
- 2:02:43Speaker 2: but he does struggle with lefties to a degree, so
- 2:02:46Speaker 2: I think there's gonna be a little platoon risk there
- 2:02:49Speaker 2: Louis Garcia, though he's the big get I to your point,
- 2:02:52Speaker 2: I'm surprised that the Nationals didn't get more for Louis Garcia.
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: The guy has been on a heater for a while now,
- 2:02:59Speaker 2: and I think he's made some real adjustments that he
- 2:03:04Speaker 2: is actually a better hitter. Don't get me wrong, there's
- 2:03:07Speaker 2: some luck in here. Like is he truly this like
- 2:03:09Speaker 2: thirty five Homer kind of guy that what he's on
- 2:03:11Speaker 2: a pace for. I don't think so. But there's probably
- 2:03:15Speaker 2: not a better landing spot for this lefty than that
- 2:03:18Speaker 2: short porch there in Yankee Stadium. And I think he's
- 2:03:21Speaker 2: gonna just fit in, and he's gonna have lineup protection.
- 2:03:26Speaker 2: You know, he had some there in Washington, but that
- 2:03:28Speaker 2: line protection just went on the il and James Wood.
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: But I think he's gonna have better lineup protection, better
- 2:03:35Speaker 2: run producing opportunities here in New York. And I think
- 2:03:38Speaker 2: he's gonna fit right in. He's kind of kind of
- 2:03:40Speaker 2: got a little chip on his shoulder type of guy.
- 2:03:42Speaker 2: So I think it's a big up arrow for Luis
- 2:03:44Speaker 2: Garcia here and who's already having a kind of a
- 2:03:47Speaker 2: breakout year for what was the Nationals now the Yankees.
- 2:03:50Speaker 2: So he's the big get for me. And I think
- 2:03:53Speaker 2: the Yankees have done what they need to to try
- 2:03:55Speaker 2: to plug the holes while they're waiting for some health
- 2:03:57Speaker 2: to get back into that team.
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: Ye yep, I think that's all very very great to
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: call out because yeah, that's the other component too, is
- 2:04:05Speaker 1: like once Bellinger and Judge are back, which I mean
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: they might.
- 2:04:09Speaker 2: Not standing don't don't kin staying out of anything, he'll
- 2:04:12Speaker 2: at least be back for a game.
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it'll only be in September for us
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: fantasy players, like for maybe a couple of weeks, but
- 2:04:20Speaker 1: it's gonna be a formidable lineup for the playoffs. And
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: then that's exactly the type of rotation we're talking about,
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: like the Brewers need you know, they've got Schlitler and
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: Cole and probably Rodon and Freed there that it's gonna
- 2:04:34Speaker 1: be a much more dangerous squad than I think it
- 2:04:37Speaker 1: has been during the regular season. When we get to
- 2:04:40Speaker 1: the playoffs, well, as long as any boon doesn't implode
- 2:04:44Speaker 1: per usual. Yeah, Okay, Let's go to the Philadelphia Phillies,
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: where you know they were making additions kind of around
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: the corners, but then added a big one, Louisa Rice
- 2:04:54Speaker 1: coming across with Caleb Hillian to bolster that bullpen as
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: well exchange for Roman Marquez, who's been a breakout arm
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: for the Phillies and the low Miners this year, and
- 2:05:06Speaker 1: Marty Garet a reliever. They also added Kolby Thomas that
- 2:05:10Speaker 1: you talked about earlier, Camra Meisner we talked about to
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: add a little bit of corner outfield depth, added Brooks
- 2:05:16Speaker 1: Brayley as well from the Mets. But the really intriguing
- 2:05:19Speaker 1: thing obviously adding the Luis Rice, who's been really really
- 2:05:24Speaker 1: good this year, not only with the bat but also defensively,
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: like he's been a really good irl baseball player, and honestly,
- 2:05:31Speaker 1: he's been hitting for enough power this year that he's
- 2:05:34Speaker 1: not the batting average, empty stat line fantasy player that
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: I think we've usually dogged him for in the past.
- 2:05:41Speaker 1: We'll see if he keeps it going forward, but certainly
- 2:05:44Speaker 1: I think is certainly a viable second baseman in just
- 2:05:47Speaker 1: about any league, getting anymore just because second base has
- 2:05:51Speaker 1: become such a dark spot across all fantasy just kind
- 2:05:56Speaker 1: of a black hole. The other thing to consider here, though,
- 2:05:59Speaker 1: is Lisa Rice coming to town is pushing Bryce Harper
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: back to the outfield. So the way that they're going
- 2:06:04Speaker 1: to handle this is the philly is going to move
- 2:06:07Speaker 1: Bryson Stock to third base, Alec Bohm to first base,
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: and then Bryce Harper to right field. So Bryce Harper
- 2:06:12Speaker 1: should pick up outfield eligibility this time next week. So
- 2:06:17Speaker 1: what's your take on Louisa Rice joining the Phillies and
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: any concerns about Bryce Harper wandering back out into the grass.
- 2:06:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we all know I'm not a big
- 2:06:27Speaker 2: Luisa Rias fan, so I'll try to leave that to
- 2:06:29Speaker 2: the side. But he's had a decent year. He has
- 2:06:33Speaker 2: had a little bit more power. It's in the extra
- 2:06:36Speaker 2: base hits, not the homers where we're seeing that, and
- 2:06:39Speaker 2: so that's led to some better rum production. Again, not
- 2:06:42Speaker 2: in a strong lineup with San Francisco, so I think
- 2:06:44Speaker 2: it is an up arrow for him coming over to
- 2:06:46Speaker 2: a better lineup, better opportunity so yeah, again he is
- 2:06:50Speaker 2: that kind of corner infield type of guy that that's
- 2:06:53Speaker 2: what you're looking for. Ariah's probably better real world use here,
- 2:06:57Speaker 2: I think the bigger I.
- 2:06:57Speaker 1: Will say though, with a rise when he hitting three twenty,
- 2:07:01Speaker 1: it's much better from when it's like three hundred, So
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: that three twenty mark it can just really allow you
- 2:07:08Speaker 1: to hang tight in average. So as long as he
- 2:07:11Speaker 1: stays there, it's a pretty big boost. I think he's.
- 2:07:14Speaker 2: Actually run he's ten for ten and soul in bases
- 2:07:16Speaker 2: this year, so he's on pace to pass his his
- 2:07:19Speaker 2: career high and actually he's probably on paces past his
- 2:07:23Speaker 2: career high in RBI as well, so like he's filling Sashi. Yeah,
- 2:07:28Speaker 2: the homers aren't there, but overall, think things have worked
- 2:07:31Speaker 2: out pretty gush darn darned well for him, and it's
- 2:07:35Speaker 2: it's just been a better year kind of what he
- 2:07:38Speaker 2: was doing, uh back for the for the Twins, uh
- 2:07:41Speaker 2: you know a few years ago. Harper, that's the one
- 2:07:45Speaker 2: I'm concerned with here, and it's if there's any guy
- 2:07:51Speaker 2: that doesn't know how to meter things down the right way,
- 2:07:54Speaker 2: it's Bryce Harper. And he's again having another solid Bryce
- 2:08:00Speaker 2: Harper year. He's gonna be a thirty homer bat, a
- 2:08:03Speaker 2: two sixty average, He's gonna probably flirt with one hundred
- 2:08:07Speaker 2: runs one hundred RBIs Like this is then just Bryce Harper. He's,
- 2:08:11Speaker 2: you know, a Hall of Famer. In my mind, I'm
- 2:08:15Speaker 2: worried he's gonna run to the wall and or throw
- 2:08:19Speaker 2: his arm off or something like that. Like that's my
- 2:08:21Speaker 2: word with Bryce Harper. He doesn't have an off switch
- 2:08:23Speaker 2: and he doesn't know how to handle it, and I
- 2:08:25Speaker 2: think this is a big risk for him. The value
- 2:08:28Speaker 2: for Harper goes up because he gets the other eligibility.
- 2:08:31Speaker 2: We love the guys that have that, you know, first
- 2:08:35Speaker 2: base outfield type eligibility, and you know for him, he's
- 2:08:41Speaker 2: he's gonna pick up that. It's actually funny Fangrafts listen
- 2:08:45Speaker 2: as an outfielder completely, which is he hasn't been for
- 2:08:49Speaker 2: some time. I was throwing me off. But I like
- 2:08:53Speaker 2: the positional flexibility that it's going to give teams. I
- 2:08:56Speaker 2: just I'm worried about him staying healthy in it.
- 2:09:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think I'm a little bit more worried
- 2:09:02Speaker 1: about just a leg injury because he hasn't been putting
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: in like the having to stretch out all season, But
- 2:09:10Speaker 1: big uparo for twenty twenty seven. Bryce Harper though, too,
- 2:09:12Speaker 1: because he's gonna have first base outfield eligibility. That's gonna
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: be really clutch. Taking him in the second round of
- 2:09:19Speaker 1: drafts next year to be able to switch him around
- 2:09:21Speaker 1: and use them wherever it makes the most sense for you.
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: So big for the fantasy side, but yeah, for the
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: rest of twenty twenty six, it's gonna be fascinating to
- 2:09:30Speaker 1: see how it works as well as like a little
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: bit of like you might want to watch it a
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: little bit with your Phillies pitchers in terms of where
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: they're at, what the lineup kind of is like, and
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: what the right field situation looks like, because the question
- 2:09:45Speaker 1: mark will be there on Bryce Harper's range until he
- 2:09:48Speaker 1: shows us otherwise.
- 2:09:49Speaker 2: There's gonna be a lot of double switches in this one,
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: Marpa moving to the infield late in the game, putting
- 2:09:54Speaker 2: a somebody else in the outfield to take things home.
- 2:09:58Speaker 2: So yeah, I actually love your call for for twenty
- 2:10:00Speaker 2: seven though, because arias I wouldn't expect to stick around.
- 2:10:04Speaker 2: Harper's moving back to first base with that extra eligibility,
- 2:10:07Speaker 2: that actually is a pretty big, pretty big boost in
- 2:10:10Speaker 2: drafts for for anybody trying to build out a team,
- 2:10:13Speaker 2: getting that early flexibility is huge.
- 2:10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Okay, let's go to the Pittsburgh Pirates across Pennsylvania. Honestly,
- 2:10:21Speaker 1: they just traded for a new bullpen, which they needed
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: because this Pirates team looks like it's going to the
- 2:10:26Speaker 1: playoffs and the bullpen was the sore spot. And so
- 2:10:30Speaker 1: they brought an Andrew Moore from the Padres for Hunter Stratton,
- 2:10:33Speaker 1: Kirby Yates from the Angels for Kyle Robinson, Lake Becker
- 2:10:36Speaker 1: from the Marlins for Brandon bidoit He and Son Lee,
- 2:10:41Speaker 1: and Brian Sanchez, Luke Weaver for Sammy stephf Fura, Camille
- 2:10:47Speaker 1: Diddle Fall for Omar Alfonso and Louis Cruz. They also
- 2:10:51Speaker 1: brought in Ron Marinaccio from the Padres just for some
- 2:10:55Speaker 1: straight up cash, and that's pretty much what it was.
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: So like that you've also got Yates, Weaver, Deval in
- 2:11:04Speaker 1: the mix now for saves certainly has not been the
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: finest hour over the past like month or so from
- 2:11:10Speaker 1: Greg Grisoto. Mason Montgomery actually got the save last night.
- 2:11:16Speaker 1: What are you doing with this Pirate's bullpen? Because the
- 2:11:19Speaker 1: thing is, it's not like they're like crushing teams. So
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: there actually are a lot of saves in this bullpen,
- 2:11:24Speaker 1: and if it can all be concentrated with one guy,
- 2:11:28Speaker 1: it's something to pursue you doing that. Or is this
- 2:11:33Speaker 1: the situation where they're just gonna mix and match us
- 2:11:36Speaker 1: all the way down the stretch.
- 2:11:38Speaker 2: I think this is an eighty twenty share situation. I
- 2:11:42Speaker 2: think Luke Weaver is the guy. He's done it before.
- 2:11:45Speaker 2: He's I know he's not been absolutely the perfect closer,
- 2:11:50Speaker 2: but he's done it with the big lights in New York.
- 2:11:54Speaker 2: He's he's had some strong runs in the playoffs, like
- 2:11:56Speaker 2: he's he's a strong that there for me to be
- 2:12:01Speaker 2: that closer and pick up a majority of saves. I
- 2:12:03Speaker 2: think the second guy's actually made some Montgomery. He's kind
- 2:12:06Speaker 2: of the young up and comer. He has some nasty
- 2:12:09Speaker 2: stuff when you can control it, and I think he
- 2:12:11Speaker 2: gets the other twenty percent. I think Doval and Yates
- 2:12:15Speaker 2: and the rest of that bullpen, which is literally is
- 2:12:18Speaker 2: a half new bullpen. I think that that those guys
- 2:12:22Speaker 2: are just trying to be the bridge between a I
- 2:12:24Speaker 2: mean a solid, solid rotation and which I think between
- 2:12:28Speaker 2: Montgomery and Weaver could be a pretty solid back end
- 2:12:31Speaker 2: of the of the bullpen. So I really love what
- 2:12:33Speaker 2: the Pirates did here, Like this is kind of like
- 2:12:35Speaker 2: the Cubs. It's it's really interesting to see the NL
- 2:12:38Speaker 2: Central making moves, which is ale Central didn't really do
- 2:12:42Speaker 2: a whole lot as we talk about it. But Cubs
- 2:12:45Speaker 2: went out got a whole new rotation. The Pirates went
- 2:12:47Speaker 2: and got a whole new bullpen, and the Brewers went
- 2:12:49Speaker 2: and got a lot of things and that didn't do much,
- 2:12:53Speaker 2: So it'll be interesting how it plays. But I think
- 2:12:55Speaker 2: this is really really good moves by the Pirates, and
- 2:12:57Speaker 2: I'm all in on Luke Weaver here.
- 2:13:00Speaker 1: Yeah. And I think the other thing that's an up
- 2:13:02Speaker 1: arrow is just Pirates starters as well, that you don't
- 2:13:05Speaker 1: have to worry about that bullpen blowing any of the
- 2:13:07Speaker 1: wins as much so that like the wins, when the
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: Pirates starters come out of the fifth sixth inning, that
- 2:13:16Speaker 1: lead has a better chance of holding all the way through.
- 2:13:18Speaker 1: So a little bit of an up arrow, I think
- 2:13:20Speaker 1: two for ashcraft and not schemes that like, I mean,
- 2:13:25Speaker 1: there might be a discussion for a different day, but
- 2:13:27Speaker 1: lots more intrigue I think for wins leagues, for Pirates starters.
- 2:13:33Speaker 1: All right, San Diego Padres, your boy aj Peller, he
- 2:13:36Speaker 1: couldn't stand pat He went out and acquired Casey Maes
- 2:13:39Speaker 1: and gauge workmen from the Tigers for cash Mayfield and
- 2:13:42Speaker 1: Jackson Wolf acquired Robbie Ray from the Giants for Miguel
- 2:13:45Speaker 1: Mendez and Yoniel Hernandez. Pretty much drained all of the
- 2:13:53Speaker 1: starting pitching prospects they had between Mayfield, Wolf and Mendez
- 2:13:58Speaker 1: there in San Diego. That you know, it is just
- 2:14:02Speaker 1: when you thought that they couldn't get shallower, AJ Peller
- 2:14:05Speaker 1: is like, hey watch me. So really the only pitcher
- 2:14:09Speaker 1: that's kind of like in their system right now is
- 2:14:11Speaker 1: Cruise school Craft. So something to watch, I think for
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: the Padres. But they also just find a way to
- 2:14:18Speaker 1: reload and reset every time. The impact here is because
- 2:14:22Speaker 1: you know, Mayes should walk in and be the number
- 2:14:24Speaker 1: one starter now for the Padres, Robbie Ray probably number
- 2:14:27Speaker 1: two or three there. It is pushing Randy Vasquez and
- 2:14:32Speaker 1: Griffin Canning to the Bulfin for the Padres, but I
- 2:14:35Speaker 1: think they'll also kind of swap in and out with
- 2:14:37Speaker 1: Harmon Marquez there where you know, the three of them, Marquez, Canning, Vasquez,
- 2:14:42Speaker 1: they're going to make up like a long relief slash
- 2:14:45Speaker 1: fifth starter combination. So yeah, another guy crossing the ALNL
- 2:14:51Speaker 1: divide here with Casey myiz and he's been pretty dang
- 2:14:54Speaker 1: good this year. Robbie Ray, it was a rougher start
- 2:14:58Speaker 1: to the season, but he steadied out and his more
- 2:15:00Speaker 1: of like a mid to upper threes option and great
- 2:15:04Speaker 1: landing spot in Sandygo because we know that it's a
- 2:15:07Speaker 1: nice park to pitch in. It'll get colder as the
- 2:15:09Speaker 1: year goes on, and that Marine Pacific layer comes in
- 2:15:14Speaker 1: into that ballpark and just allows it to play better
- 2:15:17Speaker 1: for pictures in general. So what's your take here on
- 2:15:21Speaker 1: the addition of these pictures for the Padres.
- 2:15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. Casey Mice is the big
- 2:15:26Speaker 2: get here. He's been solid. You know, he's he's adapted
- 2:15:31Speaker 2: as a pitcher and he's been really really good this year,
- 2:15:35Speaker 2: running with a two to seveny Ray. But the numbers
- 2:15:38Speaker 2: back it up, like all the underline numbers back it up.
- 2:15:41Speaker 2: I think this is a decent move for him. You know,
- 2:15:45Speaker 2: the ballpark's probably relatively neutral, maybe a little step back,
- 2:15:48Speaker 2: but maybe a little step forward with some of the
- 2:15:51Speaker 2: rest of the team there for him, So maybe a
- 2:15:53Speaker 2: better chance for wins because he threw sixteen games Starry
- 2:15:55Speaker 2: who was only four and six this year, even though
- 2:15:57Speaker 2: he's running that two seventy era. So I think some
- 2:16:00Speaker 2: off setting, maybe a slight arrow up for myz Robbie Ray.
- 2:16:03Speaker 2: It's still a streamer for me, like the guy scares
- 2:16:06Speaker 2: me to no end. That three three oh eight e
- 2:16:10Speaker 2: ra is definitely a bit of a mirage. You're gonna
- 2:16:13Speaker 2: he's gonna blow up with Walks and uh and Homers
- 2:16:16Speaker 2: and uh. The the X fit at four seventy five
- 2:16:19Speaker 2: is a little bit more of the truth for for Ray.
- 2:16:21Speaker 2: But give the Padres credit. They're gonna try to make
- 2:16:23Speaker 2: that run. They're gonna try to somehow get out of
- 2:16:26Speaker 2: the the NL West and and make something happen. And
- 2:16:29Speaker 2: I mean, there only two games back behind behind the
- 2:16:32Speaker 2: the d Becks there and they're in definitely in the
- 2:16:33Speaker 2: hunt for the wild card. So they're they're trying to
- 2:16:37Speaker 2: do what they can. But I think really the big
- 2:16:39Speaker 2: git here is Myze. Unfortunately, a lot of these guys
- 2:16:42Speaker 2: are gonna look gonna be free agents, and so I
- 2:16:45Speaker 2: think the Padres are they're gonna be interested very in
- 2:16:49Speaker 2: for a very interesting uh point in time this offseason.
- 2:16:53Speaker 2: Another team that actually could have gone for some good
- 2:16:56Speaker 2: trimina payroll, uh for for for the team with Machado
- 2:17:01Speaker 2: and Bogarts and Teas and Musgrove taking up quite a
- 2:17:05Speaker 2: bit of cash going forward. But and I think I
- 2:17:09Speaker 2: saw Nick Povetta actually came out of his rehab injured
- 2:17:15Speaker 2: off the side, so not looking so good there, But yeah,
- 2:17:19Speaker 2: up arrow from eyes, I'd still stay away from Robert Ray.
- 2:17:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the nice thing here is that, like
- 2:17:27Speaker 1: you might be a little bit worried because Mais and
- 2:17:29Speaker 1: Ray are both flatball pitchers, but because of what we
- 2:17:31Speaker 1: were talking about, that Marine layer in park in San Diego,
- 2:17:34Speaker 1: it helps them out a little bit as well as
- 2:17:36Speaker 1: it's a pretty decent outfield. I mean, Sheets is out
- 2:17:39Speaker 1: there and left now, but you know you got a
- 2:17:42Speaker 1: good center fielder and the platinum Glover and right field
- 2:17:44Speaker 1: the Tatis. So yeah, it'll be fascinating to see what
- 2:17:48Speaker 1: the Padres do, maybe like the number one team out
- 2:17:51Speaker 1: there rooting for a lockout next year. So yeah, okay,
- 2:17:57Speaker 1: let's go to the Seattle Maners. Another I think loser
- 2:18:00Speaker 1: of this trade deadline that this team I think just
- 2:18:05Speaker 1: needed more help and as pretty obvious as the season
- 2:18:08Speaker 1: has been going on or finding a path forward, that
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: they could have freed a rotation spot very unanimously for
- 2:18:15Speaker 1: Kate Anderson, because you know, shipping out Luce Castillo certainly
- 2:18:21Speaker 1: opens up a little bit of a spot there, gets
- 2:18:23Speaker 1: rid of the piggyback situation. But I think they probably
- 2:18:27Speaker 1: should have capitalized on Emerson Hancock while they could have that,
- 2:18:29Speaker 1: there was a lot of intrigue around him and probably
- 2:18:33Speaker 1: still just needed another bat that I don't know what
- 2:18:37Speaker 1: it would have been or where it would have come from,
- 2:18:39Speaker 1: but it would have made me feel better about them
- 2:18:41Speaker 1: being able to chase down the Astros as the stretch goes. So,
- 2:18:46Speaker 1: like I said earlier when we were talking to the White Sox,
- 2:18:48Speaker 1: they shipped out Luis Castillo, bringing back sar Anthony Dominguez,
- 2:18:51Speaker 1: who should be nothing for fantasy, but we'll be in
- 2:18:56Speaker 1: the middle of that bullpen. Nolan Jones, who is just
- 2:19:00Speaker 1: battling back issues in the miners. I don't know what
- 2:19:03Speaker 1: his long term outlook looks like. And then Boston Smith
- 2:19:06Speaker 1: is also came across there too, Catcher probably more of
- 2:19:10Speaker 1: a depth piece going forward. But they also picked up
- 2:19:13Speaker 1: Taylor Ward from the Orioles in exchange for Alex hop
- 2:19:16Speaker 1: brock Moore and hear some kreeling. So really just like
- 2:19:19Speaker 1: a poo poo platter of prospects that nothing really too intriguing.
- 2:19:23Speaker 1: They're going back to the Orioles. But let's talk Taylor
- 2:19:27Speaker 1: Ward because it's been a really strange season from him,
- 2:19:30Speaker 1: where the power has evaporated and the walks have gone
- 2:19:35Speaker 1: through the roof, like he's one of the highest walk
- 2:19:39Speaker 1: dudes just in the entire league. What the fallout is
- 2:19:44Speaker 1: currently is that Luke Rayley went on the IL, So
- 2:19:48Speaker 1: really the rest of the lineup here in Seattle should
- 2:19:50Speaker 1: be the same with just Taylor Ward. Considered to write
- 2:19:54Speaker 1: so tough ballpark to hit in. But are you intrigued
- 2:19:59Speaker 1: by Ward joint the Mariners.
- 2:20:02Speaker 2: I have to say, I've never really been a Taylor
- 2:20:04Speaker 2: Ward guy, and I was always worried that that home
- 2:20:07Speaker 2: run power was a little bit of a mirage, and
- 2:20:11Speaker 2: he's had some pretty rough luck this year. Things have
- 2:20:14Speaker 2: just not made out. I think that ballpark in Baltimore
- 2:20:17Speaker 2: just was not a fit for his bat. He had
- 2:20:19Speaker 2: a lot lot of long, loud outs there, and I
- 2:20:22Speaker 2: think that that hurt him. So maybe this is an
- 2:20:26Speaker 2: actual upgrade in ballpark. Maybe we don't really talk about
- 2:20:30Speaker 2: that often for Seattle. The big thing that I'm worried
- 2:20:34Speaker 2: about him, and it's something that he's always struggled with,
- 2:20:37Speaker 2: is I just keep looking at underlying stats. They've taken
- 2:20:40Speaker 2: a step back, and that bat speed continues to drop
- 2:20:43Speaker 2: and it feels like he's compensating. I don't know if
- 2:20:46Speaker 2: he's hurt or something, but we're going down the cave
- 2:20:52Speaker 2: on Bigio route of being overly patient and not to
- 2:20:58Speaker 2: the point that you're not even swinging at good pitches.
- 2:21:00Speaker 2: And I think that's that's that's concerning. Like, if you
- 2:21:04Speaker 2: actually look at his chase rate, it is down under
- 2:21:09Speaker 2: fifteen percent, which is just amazing, but his swing rate
- 2:21:13Speaker 2: in the zone is down very well and is what
- 2:21:17Speaker 2: they call meatball right down the middle. Swing percent is like, well,
- 2:21:22Speaker 2: I think, twelve points worse than major league average. He's
- 2:21:26Speaker 2: just being so gush darn picky that he's not swing
- 2:21:30Speaker 2: at the pitches he needs to, and then when he
- 2:21:31Speaker 2: does that bass pie is just not caring what it
- 2:21:34Speaker 2: needs to. So yeah, you can't like fully cast off
- 2:21:39Speaker 2: Taylor Ward here. But I'm just I'm really having a
- 2:21:42Speaker 2: hard time buying this version. Even when he was going
- 2:21:46Speaker 2: to Baltimore, we thought there was a little more intrigued
- 2:21:48Speaker 2: there because he could let the big the big flies
- 2:21:51Speaker 2: go and he could swing away at things. But yeah,
- 2:21:53Speaker 2: it's it's just not come through here and he's turned
- 2:21:55Speaker 2: into a completely different guy.
- 2:21:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think it's also going to be the
- 2:22:01Speaker 1: free agent case for Taylor Ward's gonna be rough. I
- 2:22:03Speaker 1: think where it's gonna be a little bit reminiscent of
- 2:22:06Speaker 1: like Michael Kuinfordo, where I think Ward's gonna go into
- 2:22:09Speaker 1: the offseason thinking that he's gonna be in line for
- 2:22:12Speaker 1: a decent sized contract, but I don't think anybody's gonna
- 2:22:16Speaker 1: give him anything more than like a one year like
- 2:22:19Speaker 1: eighteen million to be a corner outfielder. And he's probably
- 2:22:24Speaker 1: got a couple of contracts like that in his future
- 2:22:26Speaker 1: and he's just gonna fade away after that, where especially
- 2:22:29Speaker 1: without the power, like there's just I don't know what
- 2:22:32Speaker 1: else is in the profile forwards, So certainly in leagues
- 2:22:36Speaker 1: where maybe you had him, it's such a ballpark downgrade. Honestly,
- 2:22:40Speaker 1: he might be cuttable at this point because he also
- 2:22:44Speaker 1: is adjust to that ballpark on the fly. Where's it's
- 2:22:48Speaker 1: gonna be tough?
- 2:22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely tough.
- 2:22:51Speaker 1: Okay. Seeing those Cardinals, I think they had a pretty
- 2:22:54Speaker 1: nifty little deadline, So I think that they put together
- 2:22:56Speaker 1: a couple of the pieces that they really were looking
- 2:22:58Speaker 1: to while keeping the or going forward at the right pace. So,
- 2:23:05Speaker 1: like we covered already, I mean, actually I could probably
- 2:23:08Speaker 1: say that for all of these Yes, So Caleb Ferguson
- 2:23:12Speaker 1: coming over from the Reds for money, Lars Neupar out
- 2:23:16Speaker 1: the door for Danielle Egan, right hander who should be
- 2:23:21Speaker 1: I think he'll be in the discussion for Cardinal's rotation
- 2:23:24Speaker 1: spot towards the end of the year. Has been a
- 2:23:26Speaker 1: double A for the d Backs. It's been tough. Four
- 2:23:29Speaker 1: ninety five R five sixteen FIP over eighty seven and
- 2:23:32Speaker 1: a third innings, but that's a tough environment to pitch
- 2:23:35Speaker 1: in as well. Has a good K minus BB has
- 2:23:39Speaker 1: consistently run over twenty percent over a couple of levels.
- 2:23:43Speaker 1: You've also picked. They also picked up a lefty who
- 2:23:46Speaker 1: will probably just be a bullpen piece, Sandro Santana from
- 2:23:51Speaker 1: the Arizona Dbacks there too. Then for Dustin Main Jojo
- 2:23:55Speaker 1: Ramiro picking up maybe like it might end up being
- 2:23:59Speaker 1: the best guy that moves at this deadline, to be honest,
- 2:24:02Speaker 1: like their hope is the the highest rated right now.
- 2:24:04Speaker 1: But Alexander Friez is an eighteen year old in a
- 2:24:08Speaker 1: ball Dominican signed out of their last year, and so
- 2:24:15Speaker 1: it's been great for him across mostly most of this
- 2:24:18Speaker 1: work was on the complex, I will say that where
- 2:24:21Speaker 1: the pitching has been pretty weak this year, but across
- 2:24:23Speaker 1: two levels complex and low a as an eighteen year
- 2:24:26Speaker 1: old eight homers nineteen Stone bases over sixty games with
- 2:24:29Speaker 1: a three forty two four twenty seven, five point fifty
- 2:24:32Speaker 1: three slash line and also just has the frame that
- 2:24:36Speaker 1: you want to see six foot two one seventy five
- 2:24:40Speaker 1: frame that you can build out and is rated as
- 2:24:42Speaker 1: a fifty future value by fangrass with pretty solid grades
- 2:24:46Speaker 1: across the board forty five hit future, sixty game power,
- 2:24:50Speaker 1: fifty speed. And then they also well they added Scott
- 2:24:56Speaker 1: blew It, but or centaway Scot blew It, but that
- 2:24:59Speaker 1: was before the deadline. So let's talk Egan, Let's talk
- 2:25:02Speaker 1: free Es and then we talked a little bit about
- 2:25:06Speaker 1: the rotation post dustin May with the Quinn Matthews discussion
- 2:25:11Speaker 1: at the top of the of the pod here, So
- 2:25:15Speaker 1: probably not too much more to go through there, but
- 2:25:18Speaker 1: free Es and Egan, what are you thinking?
- 2:25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think Egan is one of those
- 2:25:22Speaker 2: guys that he was a pretty good draft pick, and
- 2:25:27Speaker 2: I think he was pretty high in that system. He's
- 2:25:29Speaker 2: had a few rough years, but he's also not pitching
- 2:25:31Speaker 2: the best environment in the minor leagues. There definitely a
- 2:25:34Speaker 2: run producing environment, so I think he's a kind of
- 2:25:38Speaker 2: changing the scenery guy, somebody that's got some intrigue. But
- 2:25:42Speaker 2: I don't I don't think he's like a huge, huge prospect.
- 2:25:45Speaker 2: I think he's one of those guys that is a
- 2:25:46Speaker 2: development project, but he I don't know if he can
- 2:25:49Speaker 2: play a role this year. I think he's more of
- 2:25:51Speaker 2: a guy. It's I almost got like the hundred Dobbins
- 2:25:54Speaker 2: kind of position that they where they picked him up,
- 2:25:57Speaker 2: was like, it's interesting, he's on the precipice quickly know
- 2:26:00Speaker 2: if we have something or not. That's kind of where
- 2:26:01Speaker 2: I'm with Egan. But still a good gift for for
- 2:26:04Speaker 2: New Bar. I think Frius is the the the gym
- 2:26:08Speaker 2: here by by all accounts, it's always interesting when you
- 2:26:12Speaker 2: walked the fans of, you know, both teams. A lot
- 2:26:16Speaker 2: of the times are like they're talking about how they
- 2:26:19Speaker 2: got this great deal and both team fans are arguing
- 2:26:22Speaker 2: with how their team won, Like the Brewers fans were mad.
- 2:26:26Speaker 2: They were just mad about this. And Freus, outside of
- 2:26:31Speaker 2: h he's number three in that system, arguably by some rankings.
- 2:26:35Speaker 2: Others haven't quite a bit lower, so they just haven't
- 2:26:36Speaker 2: been updating this year. But number three is saying something
- 2:26:40Speaker 2: when it's behind Haesus, Madday and Louis Paina, and you
- 2:26:44Speaker 2: know that's that's being a guy above guys like Jefferson, Cuero,
- 2:26:48Speaker 2: Cooper Pratt, Luis Lara, you know Andrew Fisher who has
- 2:26:52Speaker 2: just been hitting, you know, hitting seventy home runs, it
- 2:26:55Speaker 2: feels like in the minors this year, I think it's
- 2:26:58Speaker 2: thirty seven or something like that. I don't know exactly
- 2:27:00Speaker 2: what number he's at. It's crazy, though, and he is
- 2:27:04Speaker 2: a guy that just seems to have all the talents
- 2:27:06Speaker 2: in the world, very toolsy player, and he is flying up.
- 2:27:10Speaker 2: I think he's going to be a top fifty prospect
- 2:27:12Speaker 2: by the end of the season. And I mean we're
- 2:27:15Speaker 2: talking about an eighteen year old at a ball and
- 2:27:18Speaker 2: I think a lot more is going to come with
- 2:27:21Speaker 2: this one. So I think for you us, look still,
- 2:27:23Speaker 2: I think even Ragsdale is kind of in the same
- 2:27:26Speaker 2: boat as well. Very toolsy player, you know, twenty two
- 2:27:29Speaker 2: year old here at double A, who's really held his own.
- 2:27:32Speaker 2: He's at a WRC plus of four and twenty six
- 2:27:36Speaker 2: games at double A, hitting two ninety two with twelve
- 2:27:39Speaker 2: homers and seven steals, walking almost twenty percent of the time.
- 2:27:43Speaker 2: A little free swinger at at point too, So it's
- 2:27:45Speaker 2: a little contact questions. But I think both of those
- 2:27:48Speaker 2: guys have big, big up arrows, so big big gets
- 2:27:51Speaker 2: for the Cardinals here exactly what they needed to do him.
- 2:27:55Speaker 2: Bloom is doing some good work.
- 2:27:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree. And even with Egan, like
- 2:28:01Speaker 1: just strike out upside, which is something the Cardinals have
- 2:28:04Speaker 1: been lacking. So yeah, nice, nice little deadline for them.
- 2:28:08Speaker 1: All right, Tampa Bay Rays, who this is gonna be
- 2:28:12Speaker 1: an impressive list just because you're going to hopefully know
- 2:28:15Speaker 1: all the names and I'm going to rattle off that
- 2:28:17Speaker 1: they acquired so picked up Freddy Peralta from the Mets
- 2:28:20Speaker 1: who got shelled tonight in Colorado, and I was worried
- 2:28:25Speaker 1: about Freddy Perlta, And that's also why Peralta they were
- 2:28:29Speaker 1: able to trade Aiden Smith, Amelian Petrie, and Gary gil
- 2:28:33Speaker 1: Hill for him, because that's not a great return for
- 2:28:35Speaker 1: Freddy Pralta type player. I think Freddy Peralta has been
- 2:28:39Speaker 1: nursing something because the release angle has been dropping all year,
- 2:28:44Speaker 1: the extension has been lower, and I think he's been
- 2:28:47Speaker 1: trying to battle through something just to be able to
- 2:28:49Speaker 1: get to free agency. And I don't know if there's
- 2:28:53Speaker 1: actually much upside in that arm that the Rays can
- 2:28:58Speaker 1: extract from right now. So something keep in mind for
- 2:29:02Speaker 1: fab bidding on him, because he's going to be a
- 2:29:05Speaker 1: hot commodity crossing that n AL divide in ale only leagues.
- 2:29:09Speaker 1: But I might just like sit it out because I
- 2:29:13Speaker 1: don't know if I want to shell out the cash
- 2:29:15Speaker 1: that it will take because I just don't know how
- 2:29:18Speaker 1: useful he's gonna end up being. They also picked up
- 2:29:21Speaker 1: Liam Hicks from the Marlins to solve their catcher situation,
- 2:29:25Speaker 1: which is I mean, they've always seems to have had
- 2:29:28Speaker 1: a hole there, so I'll be great for them. Tyler
- 2:29:31Speaker 1: Wells joining the bullpen, and then I alluded to this
- 2:29:34Speaker 1: during the Dodgers talk. They added Jack Sawinski, who is
- 2:29:39Speaker 1: in Triple A and is looks like he's staying there
- 2:29:43Speaker 1: right now for the Rays, but the Dodgers reworked him
- 2:29:48Speaker 1: that So far this season, since he's been with the
- 2:29:51Speaker 1: Dodgers and in their system, it's all been at Triple
- 2:29:55Speaker 1: A two ninety one, three, eighty six, five, sixty two
- 2:29:57Speaker 1: slash line cut his k rate from it used to
- 2:30:01Speaker 1: be well over thirty percent down to twenty two point
- 2:30:03Speaker 1: one percent twenty one bombs in ninety three games. This
- 2:30:07Speaker 1: is exactly the type of the type of player the
- 2:30:10Speaker 1: Rays are gonna turn into a strong sight platoon behemoth.
- 2:30:14Speaker 1: I think. So if you are in an ale only league, honestly,
- 2:30:18Speaker 1: I would, if you're able to, I would put in
- 2:30:21Speaker 1: like a minimum bid on Jack Sewinsky to stash him
- 2:30:23Speaker 1: on the bench just to see if he comes up.
- 2:30:26Speaker 1: Because right now they have Victor Mason Junior playing this
- 2:30:29Speaker 1: role at the big league level for the Rays, but
- 2:30:32Speaker 1: it's kind of been more defense forward and if they
- 2:30:36Speaker 1: want to switch the gears to be able to get
- 2:30:40Speaker 1: a little more offense. There's not much of a difference
- 2:30:43Speaker 1: I think between Sewinsky and Mesa, and he could be
- 2:30:45Speaker 1: up pretty quickly. The only thing holding back is he's
- 2:30:48Speaker 1: not on a forty man roster, so they're gonna have
- 2:30:50Speaker 1: to make a forty man move to get Sewinsky up
- 2:30:54Speaker 1: in Tampa. Otherwise, other fallout in terms of the rotation,
- 2:31:00Speaker 1: Shane McClanahan hitting the IL opened up the spot for
- 2:31:03Speaker 1: Freddy Peralta, So no impact there. Nick Fortes, I mean
- 2:31:07Speaker 1: he was hot. He was getting picked up in some
- 2:31:09Speaker 1: fifteen teams leagues, So sorry, if you have to go
- 2:31:13Speaker 1: find another catcher and you were using Nick Fortez, I
- 2:31:16Speaker 1: would go maybe pick up Joey Bart. But not a
- 2:31:20Speaker 1: lot of other fallout here for the Rays that otherwise
- 2:31:23Speaker 1: they've been able to keep the rest of their big
- 2:31:25Speaker 1: league team pretty much intact. So what do you think
- 2:31:28Speaker 1: about this? For the Rays? What do you think about
- 2:31:30Speaker 1: their deadline? Because I'm a little mixed. It was good,
- 2:31:33Speaker 1: but like you also want to talk about another team
- 2:31:35Speaker 1: that could have been in on two week school a
- 2:31:37Speaker 1: little bit more. I think the Rays had the prospect
- 2:31:41Speaker 1: cash to do it and probably could have pushed it
- 2:31:44Speaker 1: a little bit harder.
- 2:31:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds like they did. You know, THEO Gillen
- 2:31:48Speaker 2: was the was the trade ship. They didn't want to
- 2:31:49Speaker 2: let go, and if they would have been willing to
- 2:31:52Speaker 2: part with him, they could have done some damage. But
- 2:31:55Speaker 2: I mean, overall, this is a very raised deadline. They
- 2:31:57Speaker 2: plug some holes. I think you're right on with he's
- 2:32:00Speaker 2: that he is a Quada player and maybe something better
- 2:32:04Speaker 2: and probably not a you know, Dodgers seem to get
- 2:32:06Speaker 2: a lot out of their guys in the miners and
- 2:32:08Speaker 2: then when they ship them out. I think Rays might
- 2:32:10Speaker 2: have been one of the best slanding spots from him,
- 2:32:12Speaker 2: So I think that's intriguing. Peralta like I I think
- 2:32:16Speaker 2: he's cooked. It's it's not looking good. I was looking
- 2:32:19Speaker 2: at his uh savant page and then you know, doing
- 2:32:21Speaker 2: the whole similar pictures to to Peralta. We got the
- 2:32:25Speaker 2: twenty twenty one versions of Glenn Otto, Christian Xavier, Daniel
- 2:32:29Speaker 2: Ponce de Leon, and Alec Manoa. That's that's that's your list,
- 2:32:33Speaker 2: and don't worry. The kicker is twenty twenty six version
- 2:32:35Speaker 2: of Spencer Strider like and it's just it's bad. Like
- 2:32:40Speaker 2: across the board, everything just has taken a step back,
- 2:32:43Speaker 2: and yeah, I guess if there's a team that's gonna
- 2:32:48Speaker 2: figure that out, you know, this is one of the
- 2:32:50Speaker 2: top two or three I would I would be willing
- 2:32:53Speaker 2: to gamble on, but I'm I'm avoiding so lots of
- 2:32:56Speaker 2: interesting pieces. But it's much more better baseball, real life
- 2:33:00Speaker 2: baseball moves then fantasy moves.
- 2:33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, And because I should have brought up this name
- 2:33:06Speaker 1: when we're talking Sewinsky, because did the exact same thing
- 2:33:09Speaker 1: was rebuilt by the Dodgers and then traded to the
- 2:33:12Speaker 1: Rays Luke Raley, That's exactly who Swinsky is. But Luke
- 2:33:16Speaker 1: Rayley has his fits of being useful for fantasy, so
- 2:33:21Speaker 1: I think Swinsky is right in the same mold. Let's
- 2:33:24Speaker 1: get to the Texas Rangers. Another pretty boring deadline here,
- 2:33:28Speaker 1: sent out Josh Smith for Adam Maco with the Blue Jays,
- 2:33:32Speaker 1: shipped out on hell Arun Dondo for Chase Silseth, and
- 2:33:37Speaker 1: Logan o'happy from the Angels. And I do want to
- 2:33:41Speaker 1: focus here on o'happy because the Rangers didn't have a
- 2:33:45Speaker 1: catcher and then they demoted Ohapi. So that just shows
- 2:33:49Speaker 1: you kind of like where things have kind of fallen
- 2:33:51Speaker 1: for Ohappy where you know, was certainly solid in twenty
- 2:33:55Speaker 1: twenty four, but it's been real tough in twenty twenty six,
- 2:34:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty five was even fine at the gate and
- 2:34:02Speaker 1: then fell apart late. The injuries have certainly mounted up.
- 2:34:06Speaker 1: He turns twenty seven in February, surprisingly and couldn't catch
- 2:34:11Speaker 1: on with a team that had no catchers. You know. Currently,
- 2:34:14Speaker 1: Elias Diaz as a starting catcher for the Texas Rangers
- 2:34:17Speaker 1: with Austin Wins backing him up. So any any intrigue
- 2:34:22Speaker 1: you know hoppy here or is this a situation where hey,
- 2:34:25Speaker 1: maybe the Rangers have a fix for him. They're sending
- 2:34:27Speaker 1: him to Triple A first and you think that there
- 2:34:30Speaker 1: might be something in that bat.
- 2:34:32Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean it's always one of those things where
- 2:34:34Speaker 2: a guy that could produce like he did look so
- 2:34:36Speaker 2: good like he did, you're always gonna want to put
- 2:34:38Speaker 2: him on the watch list. But right now I'm pretty
- 2:34:40Speaker 2: much out and just check in every once in a
- 2:34:43Speaker 2: while see if if he's tweaked anything and making a move. Honestly,
- 2:34:47Speaker 2: the only thing I'd even be interested in at this
- 2:34:49Speaker 2: point was maybe Chase Stills this and see if he
- 2:34:52Speaker 2: maybe sneaks some saves out might be the only thing
- 2:34:54Speaker 2: going on this deadline for the Rangers, and that's just
- 2:34:58Speaker 2: a pretty a electric arm, but electric being dangerous and
- 2:35:03Speaker 2: not knows where it's going at all points in times.
- 2:35:05Speaker 2: So I think this is relatively a non event for
- 2:35:08Speaker 2: the Rangers, this trade deadline. I think they could have
- 2:35:11Speaker 2: they just didn't want to pick a direction. Of all teams,
- 2:35:14Speaker 2: they pretty much were the most docile.
- 2:35:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they were trying to sell too, because
- 2:35:19Speaker 1: it sounds like Jacob de Gram turned down this trade
- 2:35:22Speaker 1: to Atlanta and exercise the snow trade clause, which I
- 2:35:26Speaker 1: mean maybe in hindsight that's what Atlanta was trying to
- 2:35:28Speaker 1: do to pair with Chris Sale, but certainly could have
- 2:35:31Speaker 1: pivoted a little bit better, it feels like. So yeah,
- 2:35:35Speaker 1: it also just kind of strange to me because like
- 2:35:37Speaker 1: Texas has a solid roster and that ale at last
- 2:35:41Speaker 1: is up for grabs, and especially when you're talking like
- 2:35:45Speaker 1: Jacob de Gram at the top of that rotation and
- 2:35:48Speaker 1: Nathan Uovaldi right behind him with you know, Kumar Rocker
- 2:35:51Speaker 1: has been looking a lot better and you know, it's
- 2:35:55Speaker 1: not a bad lineup. It's an intriguing playoff team that
- 2:36:00Speaker 1: it's strange that they were trying to sell is what
- 2:36:03Speaker 1: I'm saying, all right, the Toronto Blue Jays, so they
- 2:36:06Speaker 1: had a lot of moves going on. If anything, I
- 2:36:09Speaker 1: think what they mostly were focused on was just totally
- 2:36:12Speaker 1: restocking the depth of their pitching going into twenty twenty seven,
- 2:36:16Speaker 1: partly because in twenty twenty six it was awful. I've
- 2:36:19Speaker 1: been writing about this for BP when I do my
- 2:36:22Speaker 1: piece on just looking at the different depth charts for
- 2:36:27Speaker 1: starting pitching, and the Toronto Blue Jays had nothing all season.
- 2:36:31Speaker 1: That's why they had to bring in Patrick Corbin at
- 2:36:34Speaker 1: the end of the day. So they've really built out
- 2:36:36Speaker 1: some of this by you know, picking up Spainseraghetti for
- 2:36:39Speaker 1: Dalton varshow Arraghetti should walk right into the rotation from
- 2:36:42Speaker 1: that spot that Gausman filled up, along with Jose Soriano
- 2:36:47Speaker 1: walking into the rotation. Like I said, we said, shipped
- 2:36:51Speaker 1: out Namala for Soriano. They added Josh Smith just from
- 2:36:54Speaker 1: the Rangers, as we discussed who should be a part
- 2:36:58Speaker 1: of the rotation. We'll see how they deploy him, but
- 2:37:02Speaker 1: could get some more at bats. As you know, Ernie
- 2:37:06Speaker 1: Clement has kind of faded down the stretch. You've also
- 2:37:09Speaker 1: got an infusion of Jasan Hill, who great arm I
- 2:37:13Speaker 1: like him, but trouble with finding the zone. The nice
- 2:37:15Speaker 1: thing is that the Blue Jays seem to have some
- 2:37:17Speaker 1: pretty good pitching development. Might be able to figure out
- 2:37:20Speaker 1: a tweak there also, I mean, honestly could figure out
- 2:37:22Speaker 1: a tweak or two for Arraghetti and Soriano. Picked up
- 2:37:26Speaker 1: Tie south Scene and Brett Bateman from the Cubs, and
- 2:37:29Speaker 1: that Kevin Gassman trade, which South Scene is going to
- 2:37:33Speaker 1: be a pretty decent prospect for them, I think going forward,
- 2:37:38Speaker 1: and was hitting pretty well for the Cubs. The Cubs
- 2:37:41Speaker 1: have been pretty good at finding players like south Scene
- 2:37:44Speaker 1: at good points in the draft to be able to
- 2:37:47Speaker 1: ship out in trades like this. But obviously the two
- 2:37:49Speaker 1: big gits are going to be focused on Soriano and Arraghetty,
- 2:37:54Speaker 1: who actually he is on the IL right now, so
- 2:37:56Speaker 1: I should call that out, but should walk right back
- 2:37:58Speaker 1: into the rotation. Also, looks like Chaya Savage has left
- 2:38:02Speaker 1: his start tonight, so that might open a little more intrigue.
- 2:38:06Speaker 1: They did bring in Jameson Tayan, who is cut by
- 2:38:08Speaker 1: the Cubs, but I just know just the dude is
- 2:38:13Speaker 1: a Homer machine waiting to happen. So, yeah, Soriano, I
- 2:38:17Speaker 1: think it's gonna be the main one to talk about
- 2:38:19Speaker 1: here for the Blue Jays. But what do you think
- 2:38:21Speaker 1: about their situation overall?
- 2:38:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you're right, they were trying to restock
- 2:38:26Speaker 2: some arms and they've kind of put themselves in a
- 2:38:28Speaker 2: rough spot where they've gone really really veteran heavy outside
- 2:38:32Speaker 2: like the guys like you, Savage. So I think that
- 2:38:34Speaker 2: that was the move bringing the Soriano's and Arraghetti's Josh
- 2:38:37Speaker 2: Smith is. I think what they wanted to add some
- 2:38:40Speaker 2: barger to be and that clearly hasn't worked out this
- 2:38:43Speaker 2: year from a health perspective. Dayson Hill is probably the
- 2:38:45Speaker 2: most exciting arm here. I made fun of sil Seth
- 2:38:49Speaker 2: for not being able to control where the ball's going.
- 2:38:52Speaker 2: Dayson Hill makes Silseth look like Vin to Shane Bieber,
- 2:38:56Speaker 2: and so I think there's some projects here. Honestly, I'm
- 2:39:00Speaker 2: a little bit lower on Jose Soriano, like he's he
- 2:39:04Speaker 2: had a really good first month and a half of
- 2:39:06Speaker 2: the season and he's been pretty up and down since then.
- 2:39:10Speaker 2: So I think the Angels were kind of selling trying
- 2:39:13Speaker 2: to sell high here and I'm a little supply prized
- 2:39:16Speaker 2: they gave it Namala to get them, But I think
- 2:39:19Speaker 2: they're looking ahead and going, Man, my rotation is aging
- 2:39:24Speaker 2: very very fast. We get forty two year old Max
- 2:39:27Speaker 2: stures Are, I feel like forty two year old Shane Bieber,
- 2:39:30Speaker 2: even though he's actually thirty one. You know, Cees is
- 2:39:35Speaker 2: only thirty but feels much older. Is the way he's
- 2:39:37Speaker 2: kind of uh, he's been around for a long time.
- 2:39:40Speaker 2: And so I think that they they have a big
- 2:39:43Speaker 2: challenge in the rotation. So they're just trying to find
- 2:39:46Speaker 2: a three or four starter, which I think that's fair
- 2:39:48Speaker 2: for Soriano. So nothing jumps out at me here. Like
- 2:39:53Speaker 2: I said, I'm kind of generally shying away from Soriano.
- 2:39:57Speaker 2: I think Arigetty's just a really interesting project forum that
- 2:40:00Speaker 2: might be in the grand scheme of things we look
- 2:40:02Speaker 2: back in a few years, might be the biggest get
- 2:40:04Speaker 2: out of all this. Just he uses a big range
- 2:40:07Speaker 2: of potential outcomes.
- 2:40:09Speaker 1: Yep, yep. I think I'm right there with you on
- 2:40:11Speaker 1: all those guys. Okay, let's finish this off now with
- 2:40:15Speaker 1: the Washington Nationals, who did most of their work earlier
- 2:40:19Speaker 1: by trading Curtis Mead for Connelly early so early, still
- 2:40:22Speaker 1: on the aisle with the the elbow inflammation and will
- 2:40:27Speaker 1: hopefully get his way back before the end of the year,
- 2:40:29Speaker 1: but also a situation where Washington's probably not going to
- 2:40:33Speaker 1: be rushing early that like, They're going to want to
- 2:40:36Speaker 1: take their time with him because he should be probably
- 2:40:39Speaker 1: their number two starter going in the next year unless
- 2:40:42Speaker 1: they really get crazy adding maybe even number one honestly
- 2:40:46Speaker 1: the way that the artation is shaping up, but a
- 2:40:49Speaker 1: good deadline for them, I think in terms of building
- 2:40:52Speaker 1: some of that pitching depth that just kind of you
- 2:40:55Speaker 1: need to be moving forward, as you know. I think
- 2:40:58Speaker 1: they've got a lot of their young corps together on
- 2:41:01Speaker 1: the hitting side, especially if they lock up CJ. Abrams,
- 2:41:04Speaker 1: but Abrams and Wood and Cruises coming along, and you're
- 2:41:08Speaker 1: going to be seeing, I think a team that's starting
- 2:41:11Speaker 1: to round the corner and want to compete in twenty
- 2:41:15Speaker 1: twenty seven for a wild card and not surprised for
- 2:41:18Speaker 1: one the way they did this year. You know. So
- 2:41:22Speaker 1: in exchange for Foster Griffin, they picked up will Dion
- 2:41:25Speaker 1: Josh Hardle. Hardle's actually a pretty intriguing arm down double
- 2:41:29Speaker 1: A from Cleveland. I think could make some hay coming
- 2:41:32Speaker 1: through the Washington system. Dion had been a starter but
- 2:41:36Speaker 1: has been more of a reliever, So we'll see what
- 2:41:39Speaker 1: the Nats do with him. Like we talked about with Baltimore,
- 2:41:44Speaker 1: which pretty much opened this segment, picked up Christian Franklin,
- 2:41:48Speaker 1: who has had some prospect pedigree. So is currently going
- 2:41:52Speaker 1: to be playing in Triple A? I think no, he
- 2:41:58Speaker 1: should be on the big league roster. He was earlier
- 2:42:00Speaker 1: when I was looking at this and has since disappeared.
- 2:42:04Speaker 1: Maybe I just was crazy when I was looking atarly,
- 2:42:07Speaker 1: but it does feel like he should get a little
- 2:42:09Speaker 1: bit of corner infield play a little bit down the stretch.
- 2:42:14Speaker 1: Out of Franklin, you are also going to be seeing
- 2:42:19Speaker 1: I think Jack Sebert from the Louis Garcia junior trade
- 2:42:22Speaker 1: could make a debut here. If not, it should be
- 2:42:26Speaker 1: early next year. Has been pretty solid at Double A
- 2:42:29Speaker 1: for the Yankees. It's a tougher environment there, but has
- 2:42:33Speaker 1: been pitching decently well on the season, with a K
- 2:42:37Speaker 1: minus BB that hovers around twenty percent across two levels.
- 2:42:41Speaker 1: And because the guys that they moved on, there's a
- 2:42:45Speaker 1: little bit more intrigue in terms of what's opening up.
- 2:42:48Speaker 1: Aba melech or Tees is going to be the big
- 2:42:51Speaker 1: winner with Louis Garcia going out, should be the strong
- 2:42:55Speaker 1: side platoon, first basement for the Nats going forward, with
- 2:42:59Speaker 1: the possibility of kind of just taking that job for
- 2:43:01Speaker 1: himself if he can show that he can just hang
- 2:43:05Speaker 1: against lefties. The problem is it's got Andre Schaparro right
- 2:43:08Speaker 1: there with him, who's like a lefty masher. So even
- 2:43:12Speaker 1: though our Teez is twenty four and a little bit
- 2:43:15Speaker 1: of like more of the future first base for the Nationals,
- 2:43:19Speaker 1: we'll see how much run he actually ends up getting.
- 2:43:21Speaker 1: So what do you take from the Nationals trade deadline moves?
- 2:43:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is just a solid deadline for
- 2:43:29Speaker 2: the Nationals. Just a lot of depth rebuilding, especially on
- 2:43:33Speaker 2: the pitching side. I don't know if there's one guy
- 2:43:36Speaker 2: this was like I'm really excited about. I think Hardle's interesting.
- 2:43:40Speaker 2: I think Cruz has a little interest. I think Suburb
- 2:43:44Speaker 2: I think was of all of them, is the one
- 2:43:46Speaker 2: that does jump out. And I don't think he's like
- 2:43:49Speaker 2: a huge prospect. He's a guy and the guy that
- 2:43:50Speaker 2: could you know, continually be in the back of a rotation,
- 2:43:54Speaker 2: more of a pitchability guy than like a stuff guy,
- 2:43:57Speaker 2: and so I think he's a guy to keep an
- 2:43:59Speaker 2: eye out. I know early was early was early in
- 2:44:03Speaker 2: the deadline. I think he's the biggest intrigue for me overall.
- 2:44:07Speaker 2: But like I said, I think the Nationals were really
- 2:44:10Speaker 2: just trying to restock the upper system of some some
- 2:44:13Speaker 2: decent arms, because they they have some strong hitting at
- 2:44:17Speaker 2: least half their lineup. Right, you have the Abrams Dylan
- 2:44:20Speaker 2: cruises looked better, clearly, James, would you know. I think
- 2:44:24Speaker 2: there's a good, nice core there, but they yea. Even
- 2:44:30Speaker 2: Kate Cavelli from a starting perspective has been strong. Bullpen's
- 2:44:35Speaker 2: actually been a little bit better I think than people realize.
- 2:44:38Speaker 2: So I think they're just trying to find some depth
- 2:44:41Speaker 2: overall with the Nationals here. So decent deadline, but nothing
- 2:44:45Speaker 2: to jumping out too.
- 2:44:46Speaker 1: Much for me. Yeah, okay, well we did it. We
- 2:44:48Speaker 1: wrapped up all the teams. It was quite the little marathon.
- 2:44:52Speaker 1: But I think we've been finding that these are a
- 2:44:55Speaker 1: marathon every year. So marathon every year unless unless the
- 2:44:59Speaker 1: volume slows down, which I don't know if it ever will.
- 2:45:02Speaker 1: Given the third wild card spot in both leagues and
- 2:45:06Speaker 1: the teams that are coming in going at the same time.
- 2:45:09Speaker 1: There's as well as just there's not that waiver period
- 2:45:12Speaker 1: anymore that teams have to make their deadline moves at
- 2:45:15Speaker 1: the deadline now, so it's created a lot of intrigue
- 2:45:18Speaker 1: going to really shuffle the deck, I think for fantasies.
- 2:45:20Speaker 1: So hopefully we gave you some good insights on some
- 2:45:23Speaker 1: of the players that are moving around. If there's any
