- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we're on.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: This is Three Yards Perkari.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're back after... How long has it been?
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Two months?
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Chris?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I need more.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: I lost track of the time.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a while, and trust me, these are not uniforms that we're wearing.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: These are the dead cat, dead hats that we have on our, on our site.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to buy anything from our store, we're going to have some new stuff on there.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Very, very soon.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like I understand, we actually, we did not coordinate this.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: We just happened to both be wearing them.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like, because I like this hat a lot.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great idea, isn't it?
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: There it is.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: I will not wear it.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: I can't, though.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, camps coming is almost upon us.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was I will be there for an odd word.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: I can't I don't think they should be proud.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they should be proud.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how said I don't know how sensitive this regime will be.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm pretty sure that they'll pick up on it right away.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: So what's your recommendation?
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I don't know that I'm not sure I'm not sure if they pick it up and pick up on it right away.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: But I will say that I believe that because because they came in with a, you know, they're, they're a whole new group, they're not, they're not the last group, right, so they're not the ones that, you know, got into the salary cap mess, the dead cap that they're taking this year.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: is a strategy on their part to move on and rebuild.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually kind of a point of pride to swallow all that dead cap this year just so that going forward, they're clean, their books are relatively clean.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what they're looking forward to.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: So I wouldn't be surprised if they find a funny or they, or they, you know, it's even a point of pride.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I don't know, I'm sure, I feel bad, but I don't know if Brandon's sure would be there.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'd be really cool if John Erick Sullivan looked at me and said, you know what?
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: Send me one, you know?
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: I want to wear one, you know?
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: And he takes to the podium wearing a dead cap, dead cap.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: It is not a bad thing this year.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, in other years where you think that you're competing for a championship and stuff like that, and you get that cap and you'd be like, oh, that's embarrassing, and that's not good.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: this year I do think it's it's part of the season.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: It lives with the season.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: It is it is a 54th member of the team, you know, it is it's a big it's a big part of it's a big part of what they're doing this year.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think that's a bad or embarrassing thing.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my wife was asking me, you know, because she was like, like her eyes gloss over when I get into the weeds of some of the stuff, you know, like, and when she actually all sports, my wife loves sports, but like, I try to explain to her and NBA trade and she's like, stop talking, you know, like, okay, but to be fair, those NBA trades get convoluted.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they do.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: But I tried to explain to you basically you talk about the salary cap.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: You talk about normal people.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people in our world football world.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: I start talking about the salary cap.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: They're ice plays over great.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: You start talking about the you or anybody else start talking about the NBA salary cap and all the weird exemptions and.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, oh, well, they have the mid level exemption they can use on this guy and they can all this opens up a trade exemption or the stuff like that and I have no idea what you're talking about you might as well just be making this stuff up on the fly and I I feel like I should make stuff up I feel like oh, well, you know, have you have you have you heard about this or have you noticed that
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: they opened up a mini mega exemption with you know, because of their cost savings and marketing.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I tried to like, well, I'll tell you one thing.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was hearing the like how the how buying a second round draft pick works and the NBA and I was still I was more confused after I knew how you could do it than after they did it.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was thinking of myself, this is something that they should do every single year.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: And who decides what it's worth because it seems like you've got a bargain.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: And the market they trade?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because I was just gonna say in the NBA, they don't care about second round picks though.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, how many spots did they move up and it cost them what $1.4 million?
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: could you imagine the dolphins doing that or like, you know, NFL team doing that, like, you know, hey, we're picking number 50 and overall in the second round.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, hey, give you a couple million bucks.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: Give us a give us the 35th pick.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, of course, fans will accuse the owner of having ulterior motives, you know what I mean?
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you know, he has to make his yacht payment.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, and then there's aprons.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't I don't know what they are, but there's a second apron and the third apron and all right.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all you have to know is this.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: a very, very long time ago, they around 2012, Adam Silver sat in a room with Dan Gilbert and they decided, how do we screw over the Miami heat?
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: And this is what they came up with.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: This is what they came up with.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that only thing that I'm going to put this.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: But these are the tools that then the Golden State Warriors used to build their dynasty as Miami's
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because I'm becoming a retaining asset instead of acquiring assets.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: If the dolphins, if the dolphins are running into an apron with all this dead captain, it's got to be like 4th apron.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, my wife asked me to explain because my wife was like, why are they going to be bad?
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: Because they could just use, you know, two was money and Terry kills money.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like,
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have that money anymore.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: So the way I try to explain to Tours that, imagine you have a credit card with a $10,000 limit.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: You're limits at $9,950 and you want to buy a $4,000 item.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not possible.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Until you pay some of that down.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: Unless you go to the third apron.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or you borrow it, you know, what do you walk around?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I was just about to say something stupid because he can borrow in the NFL.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_02]: You can borrow against the future salary caps.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: But what if you would have forgetting borrowing against future caps salary caps?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: What if you could just like literally borrow from banks to get your salary cap up?
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like that'd be awesome.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, JP Morgan, you know, we're going to we're going to do a little we're going to do a little we're going to do a little fundraiser.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to we're going to you know sell off the equity and increase our salary cap.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: We don't Steven Ross got funding for the the practice facility within 30 days, which is almost unheard of.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: And you got almost 400 million dollars worth.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm pretty sure Steven Ross can can do that for us if there's actually there's actually just literally a line out the door to try to invest in the and the NFL the NFL doesn't generally do it is it is a gated club and so, you know, but there are a lot of and not just because they're.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: their fans of the sport.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: It makes a lot of business sense.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: The NFL is a, you know, a generate a lot of cash and it has consistent growth.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, at any time they want to do a little bit of a raise.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they can do it.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: it's pretty easy.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I remember very clearly when Tom Clancy famous author tried to buy the Minnesota Vikings and Jared Jones said you don't get into the NFL on a shoe string and that shoe string that he was talking about was Tom Clancy coming in with $200 million cash and then paper and rest of the deal and Jared Jones like not you don't do that you know
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, especially in the NFL wants to make sure or things are changing fast and the NFL that way with the ownership rules and equity and things like that.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: But they want to make sure that whoever's buying them is really, really well capitalized and so you know, because it's not just about the amount of money that you're putting down to buy it.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: It is about how much money you have.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah, I think that they make sure that they're on our ship groups are extremely well capitalized Yeah, obviously enough Jerry Jones is the one who who authored that quote and Jerry Jones actually did buy the Dallas Cowboys with pretty much every cent he had Yeah, he explains it.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: He explains it in that doctor.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: This is back in what like 1964 or something
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: uh one what one did he buy at nineteen ninety nineteen ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two ninety-two
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: 88 and he was there a year before Jimmy Johnson arrived so and I think eight eight men's draft was 89 and they have they had a year of sucking before they yeah so Jerry Jones so Jerry Jones bottom in 1989 and yeah he bought the Dallas Cobb was essentially with every dime that he had yeah you could do that back then just like you could buy a house back then.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you can't do that anymore, you know, you can't do that anymore.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wanted to ask you something before we we we had on over to break.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to take a little longer.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: You've been watching the world cup, right?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: A little bit and then since since the USA got kicked out like.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Not much.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm a I'm a bad person to ask about football.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, I'm not asking about football.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask you something that occurred in football, which seems to occur to a lot of different teams, including our Miami Dolphins, all right?
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: The ghosts arrive once again for England.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I talked about this on on our discord onlyfins.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, if you want to you want to join, I put a link in the description you could just click on it.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I talked about the sound onlyfins.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I called it the burden of unmet expectations.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a few teams.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: more than a few teams that have this, okay?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to hit close to the home, dolphins have this, Buffalo Bills have this.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Some debate whether the jets have this or not, the only thing is that to have this, you have to have a lot of heartbreak, and a lot of weird shit has to keep happening to you, okay?
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I talked about how the Toronto Maple Leafs, their infamous for this, you know, they're going on 60 years of like, incredible, like weird shit happens.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like the ghosts, and you know, and you could almost point at exactly when the ghosts show up.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: England, England National Park, exactly exactly which Native American burial ground.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: If I, yes, so you could almost point to that moment, right?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: And people forget, and a lot of dolphins, you know, they haven't been good.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, go back to 2023.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: Look at the metrics of that team when it began to fall apart.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: That was a Super Bowl challenge under any any circumstances.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: One of the best past races in the league, the number one offense in the league.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think there
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: There were the number one scoring offense.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: All of those metrics were being met for a team that was gonna make a run at they Super Bowl and then everybody got injured.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then it just kept going.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it wasn't only that Tennessee game.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was that Buffalo Bills game.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: People forget that Bills game at the loss at home for the division title, which probably cost them a birth in the second round of the playoffs if we're being correct about this.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: that game people forget dolphins dominated that game for three quarters and then the ghost started creeping in yet the punt returned remember don't forget that the past that bounced off a helmet and got caught in the back of the end zone and somehow the dolphins forgot you know what you could mug the receivers once the ball is in the it's off somebody's and we just like try not to interfere and gets caught for a touchdown if you remember all the
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: A conversion on 1316, which I found is legs, which your own baker breaking his hand on a tackle.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, it was just one thing after the other in that game.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: People forget, okay.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course the following week against Kansas City was all elementary.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: but it happened to England and I was wondering and I was asking nobody had any answers and it seems like nobody has answers.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: How do you reverse that?
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: Is it going to take a generational player because I can argue that the heat had some of that with all their heartbreak against the New York mix in the 90s?
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: and the Chicago Bulls in the 90s, like they had a bunch of two seeds and one seeds that went nowhere.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: And lost in the most excruciating fashion in the playoffs, but they draft Duane Wade and everything just reversed.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: Almost overnight, really, because, you know, Wade won the title in year three of his career.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, what is it gonna take?
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: to to shoot these these ghosts.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think in the 90s, I think in the 90s, the name of your heartbreak was the name in the 90s, the name of your heartbreak and the ghost that you need to destroy was named Michael Jordan.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think I think that he he stood in the way pretty much ever for for for for much of that period, but
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't think it's a specific player.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the tumblers just all fall into place where they do, I mean, they got because of a confluence of factors.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't even part of it was he wanted to play with Duane Wade, but they're parts of it that Shaq has talked about.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: That is that factor damn.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: And it just seems kind of random actually.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, there's that, and then we all know that the LeBron decision is basically, you know, he's gonna do what he's gonna do and nobody, nobody truly has, you know, a view into his process that way to where they could predict it because everybody is on pins and needles until he decides these things and they're going through that again right now.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I think it's just kind of random is just like, oh, wow stuff stuff is finally falling into place, you know, and the better you are for the longer the more that you're going to have both those opportunities for things to fall into place and a lot of heartbreak, you know, it comes with being good.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: What did they have like they were just as well that I mean, but in that case, you draft one of the best players in the league, you know, that's that's going to one of the best quarterbacks in the league of the generation really.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: And you do that you're going to win championships in the NFL.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's the way the NFL is you draft one of the best quarterbacks of the generation, you know, one of the top two or three of his generation.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, you're going to you're going to end up in those super balls.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: So it's, so you would say the quickest way to get out from under this, this malaise is just to get that position, right?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: You think?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, if you think about it like the quickest to the degree that to a time of L.O.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: was a good quarterback and I think he was for a while with us a good quarterback.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he reversed the fortunes to the franchise himself to some degree.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: No, it wasn't championship quality, but it was better than what we had been a lot better.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, he's he had a winning record with with the dolphins.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: And, and so you just have to keep doing better at that position.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, if you get lucky enough to mail one of those
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's where the the Malik Willis conversation comes into play because it's not a lack of talent as far as Malik Willis becoming one of the better quarterback and the late or even one of the very best quarterback and the late in terms of gross talent.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know, draw it up put it in a math and game or something like that and there are very few quarterbacks that would be more fun to play with him.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: But of course, we know that life is in Madden.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I think that's what the dolphins have in front of them, but I'm going for that.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: They've given themselves a chance at that, which you wouldn't have said before.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: What chance was there of that the absolute maximum prize?
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: What chance was there of that before?
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think there was.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go to break and when we come back, we will talk a little bit about Malik Wallace, because there's some interesting things to talk about as far as the type of season he can have and how it relates to winning.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: And there's several examples.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: I found one in particular that I think will agree on that will maybe illustrate the way.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: But first, let me tell you about Lucy.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: Lucy nicotine pouches.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: Lucy's are my new go-to pouch and in fact I have one right here on top of my desk and you know I pop one in every few hours or so so they're the very best pouches in the market that come in many flavors mint, apple ice, mango, espresso, cinnamon, that's the one that I have right here on my desk.

- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I use them to, I'm a customer.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes I wonder, you know, is it wise that I'm taking the advertising money and then spending it on these advertisers?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, facts are just great.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I really do recommend that you use them because sometimes you don't have the time where you just don't want to cook.

- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's weird, it's weird, being sponsored by the Lucy, that's my daughter's name.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's right here.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I got it.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's been focused there.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have one here on my desk.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, I'm pretty sure you work in finance.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: That this is like the, the bro finance desk aesthetic, right?
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: To have the little nicotine pouches.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's a certain, a certain generation, a certain generation and our, and our business, you know,
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's pretty common.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: You can't light up, you know, if this were 1985, they'd be smoking cigarettes at their stations, right?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, this were 1985, they'd be doing other things.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, if we're doing many other things, yeah, maybe not the desk in the bathroom.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, yeah.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, yeah, they were.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_02]: Look, I've heard him fall in a Chris first there.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Chris first, right?
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: One of the best coaches in all of NFL.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the ghosts.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like there, there's another ghost right there.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: We have one of the best coaches in all of all of football.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: And the guys doing coke at his desk texting back and forth with his stripper girlfriend.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's doing, he's doing love letters to, uh,
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: love letters while like honest phone camera wild snorting coke at his office desk like that yeah like that happens to us yeah only one of my favorite and yeah one of my favorite interviews is Devon H and uh did uh he was on with uh I'm on Ross St. Brown.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: He has a really good podcast about I don't know if you've seen it have you seen it have you seen a mom Ross that brown no pod no it's pretty cool
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: He has a lot of players on and he had Devon HN on Devon HN was telling him, he believed that this happened to us and I'm watching him like Devon, you have no idea.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: You just got it.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, things tend to happen to us, okay?
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, actually, yeah, it's that first time,
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because he was talking about, he believed that this happened to us and I'm like, yeah, I really do believe that this is going to happen to us.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I like it when he was talking about the 2023 season, he was like, this is easy.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like who the house beating us and I'm thinking of you and I'm thinking of myself, you would be surprised, Devon.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: at the answer to that question because he was an iron for 200 yards against the Giants, you know, we hung 70, remember he scored four touchdowns against the Broncos, remember?
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: The team scored 10 touchdowns in that game.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, and those, they scored 70 points, that's going to go down as like one of those weirdly ab games, a little bit like, you know,
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: like BAM out of BIOS 83 like yes it's it's just where did this come from?
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah if you remember that that team scored over 40 I think five times that season.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah Devon HN was talking about like I thought we were just you know we're going to walk to the Super Bowl and like you did huh.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, to be young again, and to be as delusional.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: But Gerard Armstrong said thought the same thing, like, you know, I think he still talks about that season.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, you know, who is going to stop us?
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, who, I mean, only injuries.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: They, they, they all collectively blame injuries.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: They just say, yeah, your ACLs are going to stop you.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: So injured.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, your ACLs will stop you.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: But, but they collectively, they still.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: come away their memory of it is we were way too injured at the end of the year to do anything else, but, you know, if that hadn't have happened, then we're super bullbound.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, people forget they lost their top three ad russures that year.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: Bradley Tub.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, they were in Phillips and they were in equal, they played they played the playoff game with basically like the, uh,
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: the 19, or sorry, the the the 2015 Pro Bowl unit at Ed Schbrusher.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it basically says, who wants?
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Who wants a payday for one again?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: And in 2023, you know?
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Malik Willis, is it going to be like, because, look, we've talked about it, it's possible he has a monster season in the team wins four games, okay?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: And how do I know this?
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because the Sean Watson did that.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: I brought that up in the discord the other day, exactly that, you know, he threw for 4800 yards and I think like 33 touchdowns and 7 interceptions or something like that and they won 4 games and it wasn't that he was injured it was literally he was literally 4 and 12.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like as the as the start for an quarterback.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the telltale sign is right is there the 33 touchdowns that he had.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and I think yeah, he tacked on another five rushing as well.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, he was productive, you know, he almost reached that that that magic number of 50, which is the new magic number, usually when you get to 50 touchdowns, by the way, the 23 dolphins, I think I have 53 touchdowns, but usually when you get to 50 touchdowns, it's a good thing.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: because it usually means you're a top five offense once you get the 50 touchdowns.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I guess I'm gonna ask you the question, how do you judge Malik was?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Or is it just like, or is it like porn, you know what when you see it?
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when I actually, it, you know,
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: forgive, forgive the, the metaphor there, but yeah, it really is, you know, when you see it, it's because there's, there can't be, there can't be any set standard that you force yourself to adhere to because football is far too complicated to support for that.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so you'll know when you'll see it, but just imagining it and broad strokes, listen, if they end up with the number one overall pick, I'm not, I'm not under any illusions that that's going to be a quarterback.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and that Malik Willis will be, eventually out the door.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: They've got them for, you know, two years, which even works if you take a number one overall quarterback.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: Um, however,
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: What people have to realize about that is because I think they're trying to imagine the areas where you could get the number one overall pick and use it on something else or a package of picks and keep milk will, but you have to place yourself in that situation.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: every year and especially a year with the quarterback's class as, you know, kind of already preemptively regarded as this next year's quarterback class, whoever that QB one is is going to be the best guy in a generation, you know, it's it's the Peyton Manning makes Michael Vick, you know, that's that every year that's that that's the way it's going to be
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and indeed this time the number one overall pick could be a sign of the manning family, you know, so, so how are you going to pass on, uh, you know, the best quarterback in a generation with a guy who just won two or three games because you're not, you know, getting the number one overall pick unless you were that bad, like you won two or three games or something like that.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: Um, it's, it's really, really hard to imagine that it's really hard to amans saying, yes, we want only two or three games, but, you know, Malik will has did pretty well.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's something to build on and therefore I'm passing on the best quarterback in a generation.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what they're going to say, you know, you just have to know that that's what that's the way it's going to be when you when you're talking about to be one in a draft,
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that calculus changes a little bit, though, if you get knocked off the number one over all pick.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: If you get knocked off the number one over pick, over all pick, there are very realistic scenarios where you're saying,
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, my league will have stood well.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: We're building with him.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's still only like 20, 7, 28 years old.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're we're good here.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to pack it.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're we're either going to get a strong package and trade for the number two number three number four overall pick or we're going to try and get, you know, are truly elite non quarterback player.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_02]: to help us along.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: The calculus totally changes when you get knocked off with QB1 and onto QB2 and a draft.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: There's nobody says that QB2 and a draft is the best quarterback in a generation.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, nobody has that doesn't happen.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I think that the calculus does change if they are not picking number one, if they are picking number one, I have no illusions here, they're taking a quarterback.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_02]: But, but I don't think they will be picking number one to be honest.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think that they'll have the have a little upsides to prize to some degree.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: And, and I think that yeah, you can judge it as you see it because it's all about personal performance.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, you can't control whether a guy drops a pass or you can't control whether a guy runs the wrong route or something like that.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: But, but the coaches will know if he ran a wrong route.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: everybody will know if the guy drops a pass, you know, everybody will know if, you know, he has zero time in the pocket.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's all about your personal performance.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's all about how you handle yourself and what quality you're presenting on a play for play basis.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_02]: And you can do that even within within structure that's kind of failing around you.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's the note where you see it angle is you have to really, there's no, there's no substitute for going back and looking through all of the tape and making that judgment.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it is entirely possible, but just not possible at number one.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now if I was said that, you know, and I think you agree with this as well, you know, I like, you know, it's no secret.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: I like Mike McDaniel personally, like I like his coaching style.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: If it players just didn't take to it and certain players, you know, left the reservation early because they didn't like that style.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: And there seems to be a lot of evidence that that is the truth
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and possibly Terri Kill, who, you know, not the Terri Kill was subversive.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: but disrespectful to the head coach.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, let you show up late to meetings.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: That shows a level of disrespect.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, especially when you keep getting away with it and you know you can keep getting away with it and you just do it.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: But the biggest measure I looked at Mike McDaniel at the end of it at the end of the four years to say, yeah, you know what?
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta fire this guy.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Is that a lot of people don't care about this?
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: because a lot of smart people go into a lot of dark rooms to come up with this number.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: And guess what?
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: This number is almost certainly right within a gamer to across the league, all 32 teams.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: So it seems to be a very well calculated number.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins only beat their total once and four years.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that was that 11 win season when they were nine and a half in Vegas.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: They only met expectations once in four years.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, fireball offense in my opinion.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: This year that the total is at four and a half.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: Are you holding Jeff Haffley to this?
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: To that four and a half, asking him, beat that number because, and I had to say this, but Brian Flores, three years here, beat the number three years in a row.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I don't think it's an unreasonable ask beat the number, you know, I think that that is listen Vegas doesn't usually set those numbers that low like you talk about their their accurate, but if you look if you look across the board.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: Those Vegas numbers are basically hovering around eight and a half wins plus or minus two, you know, and that's that's pretty much 28 out of 32 teams or something like that, like, you know, that's it's it's really it's really tightly tightly bound tightly ranged so Vegas gave you a low number already for that.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's unreasonable to say beat that number.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_02]: If you're a good coach, you can beat that number.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: I know that the dolphins are dealing with a lot this year.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: And they are, but they're not dealing with as much as I think a lot of people think they are.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of, like, the players that are gone
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: at the end, you know, and so it's, and you look at the results and you look at what Mike McGang and was able to achieve on kind of a sinking ship.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that I think that it's not unreasonable to say, okay, you know, Jeff Affleys, if you're worth it, go out and beat that number.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: Malique Willis, if you're worth it, go out and beat that number.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_02]: not unreasonable at all.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Mike McDaniel looking back on it, I kind of wish his philosophy his, I really enjoyed the positivity of his philosophy and the player, the player orientation of his philosophy.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: He truly wanted to want it as teams to be players teams, you know, that the players run and
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: and he wanted to empower the players.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that he took the right attitude philosophically about the way to operate.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: But it's, I think there's a lot of personal failings there.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just unfortunate, you know, it's a very smart guy, very smart guy, not necessarily the most well organized guy, I think I had somebody somebody on the hints, I told tell something, this is just this is
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: very superficial, maybe neither here nor there, but as like the number of times that Mike McDaniel forgot his parking pass, uh, is, you know, and it's just, that's, that's very him, you know, the organization, um, you know, he can be detailed in the way that he thinks about things, but not necessarily detailed in the way that he organizes things, and that's, there's difference between that.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: Um, organization wasn't there.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that when things, when the going
- 38:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, he reverted to a little bit of a little bit of, uh, you know, cunning, cunning.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: Let's let's blame some others.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, without looking like we're doing it, you know, let that look like we're blaming others.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, hey, you know,
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: And that was a bad look, but then the bottom line is the bottom line if you have a bunch of really good players including like you know guys like Jalen Ramsey who are very well respected around the league who just don't f with you.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: That says something about your coaching style that maybe it doesn't work, maybe it doesn't work.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I've heard some people say, but, you know, Jail Ramsey, he's a malcontent.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, he's... Well, he has been passed around the league for a reason, but... Yeah.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I would counter with Gionne's Super Bowl ring, and Guy has played in three conference championship games.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: And like the really, the really well-respected coaches, like, you know, people think that,
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: Vick Fangio and Jalen Ramsey don't get a lot.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Vick Fangio regards Jalen Ramsey's one of the best players ever coached.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like, good coach is recognized, recognized this guy.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: At the end of the day, he just didn't like McDaniel, but there are others that didn't either.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Jellon Ramsey, you could tell it's like a personality clash because Jellon Ramsey is like a very, very serious person, you know, like this is not somebody that's going to, you know, he doesn't, he's not going to take to like be guessing around like if we're here to work, we're here to work and I guess that, you know, that just didn't mix and I think there's a little bit of resentment because it is true that Mike McDaniel will look at Tariq Hill differently.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Then he did everybody else and there were rules for different, but you know once upon a time Jimmy Johnson used to openly do that, right?
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Jimmy Johnson very famously said, yeah, if I catch the the third string running back sleeping in a meeting, I cut him on the spot.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: If I catch and it's Smith sleeping in a meeting, I go get him a pillow.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: Tyrico a little bit different like like this is some unprecedented thing ball or that it's that it's even that it's that let's not even pretend that it's not.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: like completely normal in football.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: It is the norm, actually.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_02]: That is the ubiquitous attitude towards star players in football.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like my big Daniel is not guilty of something that like 85% of the rest of the league aren't also guilty of.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's just so I don't wanna hang him by that rope.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: like that, that wasn't it to me.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: That was as far as the reasons that McDaniel had to go.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_02]: There was a litany of reasons by the end, but yeah.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Toron Armstrong said not practicing like a lot of people would and then when he does practice, he got injured against Chicago and a joint practice.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's, there's a lot of things to point at where he had different rules for different people on the team and that, you know, rubbed some of the other, some of the players the the wrong way.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: That doesn't seem to be an either pull it off or you can't, you can either pull it off or you can't, Jamie Johnson can pull it off.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, and Daniel couldn't make McDonald's just couldn't, you know, right.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, Daniel, I think he's going to be successful, although, you know, I have my, my, he needs, he needs a guy, he needs a guy in charge of him.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think as an offensive mind, he's a good offensive mind, but he needs somebody in charge of him.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: He needs somebody.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he has the perfect one right now because he has, he has a coach with an offensive background, which is going to dial him back from his worst instincts.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: Protecting his worst.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be in his, he's going to be in his heads and he's like, what are you calling here?
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's, you know, because McDaniel's problem was very situational, you know.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: Brain Farts in the moment, big moments as far as you know what play, what play you throw out there and and definitely very situational he had some very odd ideas about about some situational football play calls, but also just the way that his game plans were structured.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: let themselves toward this really weird thing where they're only going to be good offensively if they're playing at home at 1pm, you know, and not in any kind of conditions, clear weather, you know, that's sort of thing.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, you know, if you look at the history,
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: of Harbaugh there, you know, he built this team, he insists for structured for rugged environments.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so there could be a clear that, it makes the whole thing derailed before it even starts.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like, but if they get going, I think that it, I'll be really interested to see how it goes.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: Because I could see a crashing.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, immediately like for before they even started with the games they're just clashing so much over their different their different ideas and their different approach that that it just doesn't work, but if if they do somehow get on it does work in that, you know, that best of both worlds, then it could be powerful.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's all for Mike McDaniel, it'll be all up to that quarterback, you know, it's, you know, it'll be up to that right.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if he's good, they'll be good.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: Back to the dolphins, I think this is the last thing.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: and we'll have Simon Klein to hear on with us next week where we'll preview training camp.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: But what are you most looking forward to because I'll I'll give you mine first and then you could close the show with what you're most looking forward to.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: What I'm looking most forward most forward to is this.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: I am of the opinion and I've said it before and I'm beginning to think it myself as the more I look at this you and I think trading general water was a mistake.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and I think it could prove to be a mistake.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're going to hate watch anybody around this league, and I know, and it's it's an awful thing to hate watch.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: Jay and watercolor is he is truly one of the best people we have drafted and a good player and a productive player when he plays.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's exactly one of the player good worker good worker good player good human, you know, yeah, like that's exactly when you use a first rompick.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you could just point to one, you know, what you want that first round picked to become, you want Jeno Water, like that's what you want.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to suck that you got a route against Jeno Water.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: You need to have him have a terrible season in Denver.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's going to happen.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that could be a mistake.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: So what am I most looking forward to?
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: Man, the emergence of somebody in that wide receiver room.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: And none of the guys that they picked up off the scrap he'd be there.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: No two two outwells or Jalen told words.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at right, right at two guys.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe three in Kevin Coleman, but Chris Bell,
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: who were hearing some optimistic things about for training camp and I think that this is important that we hear optimistic things and that he actually works because if he doesn't get a training camp under his bulk, that's what.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're punting on the season with Chris Ball.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_01]: And we won't find out what Chris Ball's going to do.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's their mindset, though.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: And so we have to keep that in mind.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: Regardless of whatever optimism you hear, because there are people that are built to be optimistic about him, especially him and his people.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like every year, something that kind of floats their way from that camp.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: They're built to be optimistic about him.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_02]: There's also a lot of fans within the team, that they're going to be naturally optimistic, just like a fan would.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_02]: But the people in charge have consistently messaged
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: zero expectations about this year.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like we're not even necessarily expecting any places here.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: So we have to keep that context because otherwise you might be disappointed, but you know you have to head in with that like going to be careful here.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_02]: They're not going to f that up, you know.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, just keep that in mind.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that's what I'm most looking forward to is looking for that pleasant surprise like Chris Johnson, Pro Bowl or as a rookie at Cornerback, something like that.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: Dante Trader is all of a sudden a high-end safety in the NFL, you know, chop Robinson gets 13 sacs.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm looking for that pleasant surprise.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: If we get none, then damn, you know?
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what I'm looking most forward to is that pleasant surprise.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: that now you have.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I'm looking forward to.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: What are you looking forward to?
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: I guess, I mean, you know, there's there's going to be a lot of eyes on the quarterback, so I won't necessarily, you know, be cheap and say that.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, yeah, that, that what, the two weaknesses of the team, the two big, the, you know, some people would refer to
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: a particular it's so funny because the two weaknesses at the team corner, which is Jeff Hathley specialty, by the way, you know, that's his background.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: He can pick guys that's what he thinks.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_02]: Wide receiver.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: Eric Sullivan's son of Jerry Sullivan, whiter severs his specialty.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_02]: He can pick those, right?
- 48:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's that's the thought.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: Remember go back to Nick Sabin, remember when he hired Hudson Huts and Huts and Huts and Huts at offensive line.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: And, and Sabin just flat that set it.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: While we hired Hudson Huts and Huts, he's one of the best offensive line when our offensive line coaches in the league.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: We did that so that we can underinvest the off.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: And he'd like said this.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: So that we can underinvest in the offense of line like that's the idea like you know Nick Savon's very straightforward and very you know Logical in the way that he thinks about things so you take the the worst court positions on the team right now or wider receiver and corner This is this is son of Jerry Sullivan's specialty.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: This is Jeff Hathley who worked with Darrell Revis and and with what's his name and and Tampa Bay the
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the legendary corner there, who's forgetting, I'm forgetting his name now.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: Um, rendez-Barbara hit twin, Barbara rendez-Barbara got, um, you know, he's worked with all these guys.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: He feels like he can pick that.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: He feels like, and notice what they did at corner, they bunch of scratch off tickets down there, you know, like, oh, we're going to pick up jujube brands.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to pick it, you know, we're going to, uh, and one hydrapic, one, you know, one hydrapic and one hydrapic and one hydrapic and one hydrapic, you're always going to want that,
- 50:13[SPEAKER_02]: freebies like these were these are essentially free money right because then because when you're picking at the low end of the salary cap, they're basically free contracts because they're the equivalent of the very last contracts on your salary cap, so it's incrementally there's no cost.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_02]: This is what you do.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_02]: You're able to supply the depth of the position with all those freebies and guys that everybody else didn't want, but you saw it, you know.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: But then we do also want to do is be able to take the first round or that isn't just a first round or ease one of the best and leak, you know, that's that's the that's the idea.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_02]: They've done that perfectly at the corner position perfectly.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: They've executed that.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't done that yet at the White receiver position, but that I have a feeling is a philosophically John or Sullivan just wants to keep that White receiver position rolling and drafting at all times.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think he really wants to pay it this guy's.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's kind of let the cat out of the bag on that, too.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_02]: He even said, when the Devon HN contract came around, he's like, when should we have there?
- 51:33[SPEAKER_02]: Once you're rather pay a guy that's touching it like 20 times a game like that instead of a guy like you know why to see her who's maybe touching it like five or six times, you know, like I think that betrayed his philosophy.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you really want to pay one of those guys.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to be a constant, you know, almost like a college who gets recruited next and who's graduating.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_02]: you know, and so I think that I think two very different approaches, but within their respective wheelhouses, and I think that's really interesting.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I think I'm looking at those two positions to see signs that that works because probably their entire championship strategy taking aside the quarterback hinges on whether that thesis is true.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, hinges on whether the thesis of John Erick, all of a knowing is doing and Jeffly knowing what he's doing is true.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so you're looking for signs of that.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're looking for signs of that.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I want to say this year.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, it's it's an interesting philosophy because Mary Chris ball was even asked about that because he he was asked why do you keep going into the transfer portal for your nickel and your safeties, you know a nickel corner back in your safeties and he's like, well, we're going to high school for wide receiver and for running back and for offensive line because we want to mold them in our images, we go into the transfer portal for safety and nickel because we got to make sure that they can play.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: you know.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so they're basically just picking a room.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they're like, you know, we're in a, we teach you no, no, no high school kid to play nickel corner back, you know, and then expecting him to play well against, uh, you know, Dante Moore in the playoff.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to call it right here.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: The next time we talk to you, we will start to preview training camp.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: And we should have Simon Clancy.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: Who is in Croatia, by the way, right now?
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't, nothing happens to him because England lost in the World Cup.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's in Croatia.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_02]: I never know.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_02]: We're changing this podcast name to like where in the world is Simon Clancy.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's always, he's always somewhere else.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, come this fall.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, look, if you look up in the upper right hand corner of the screen, come this fall, cockrobs and Simon Kleincy will be doing a little show under our banner.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Look at that.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Look how cool that is.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Look at that.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_02]: Look at that.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: Look at how, look at, look at how that looks.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's phenomenal.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't that look good?
- 54:13[SPEAKER_02]: Except for except bills colors.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I went for a very cheesy college aesthetic and the cheesy college aesthetic you could go for is red, white, blue.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so yeah, don't be talking about the college football season.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then necessarily the hurricanes, you know, unless I'm pretty sure they'll talk about the hurricanes at least twice in the season, especially that northern game game, because I'm pretty sure they're going to preview the game of the week and they'll go over the slate for that week with an
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to get all the information on our podcast as we ramp up here on three hours per carry.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_02]: But real quick, pretty preview for the preview for that real quick, just one answer.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like who do you think the best quarterback is going to be, you know, come draft time next year, forget the knowledge and they have to be eligible for the draft, but forget the question of, oh, they're, are they going to come out or they're not going to come out like it.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_02]: Just who do you think is going to be best?
- 55:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think Archie Manning is going to have a monster season and I usually base this thing things on like look, Darym Mensa, I think is going to have a monster season as well because he is absolutely, his team is absolutely loaded.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's the issue with Darym Mensa and I understand what people look at him, what I mean, he's 6, 3, 215 pounds, there's any mobile, Darym Mensa, I've tried to explain it to people.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's right handed to a tongue of our law with size.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that's who Darrym Mensa is.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, he could have a monster season for the hurricanes, but I think Archmany is gonna, that team is Texas is absolutely loaded.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Think Archmany is, I think going to win the Heisman.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: The only reason I won't bet him the win the Heisman is because he's the favorite.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, I think he'll be the number one overall pick.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Jeremiah Smith will be the number two overall pick.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_02]: So, he is, you know, he is godly.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think I think the surprise guy that'll jump up to the front of the pack is going to be CGA car.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_02]: That's of no today.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that's been a guy that I watched early on last last season and I just got this year.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I watched Andrew luck.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think way back in like 2009 2010 or something like that.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: his retro freshman year and it was just like holy cow this guy's a future number one and and I got those vibes from CJ car.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think that I'm going to pay in close attention.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: I want to be surprised all of a few jumps of the front of the pack.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's almost always dependent on the team around them because it's what allows them to have those big seasons and norodame is going to be absolutely great.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, norodame is, you know, they're a top five team this coming season.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, so yeah, I absolutely buy it.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I saw a lot from some from CJ car, you know, especially that first game against Miami completely under siege and if you forget he was coming on strong in that fourth quarter against the hurricanes, you know, I think it's interesting Miami ends up being the Hurricanes and that being a pretty good interesting foil that way, because like, you know, that's how our member Tyler shut.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that's where he stood out to me, right, is when he laid my amy and just watching the way that he competed in that game and he did with him work at this guy.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_02]: Right to the end, you know, and, and I'm, I need to look at this guy in the more I look to it's like, oh, there's a box check.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's a box check.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: There's a box check.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_02]: There's a, you know, it's, it's pretty incredible.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_02]: So they end up being a pretty good foil to, you know, judge some of these guys.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right, that's it.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's no more we will talk to you again next week.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening to three yards per catty.
