- 0:02Speaker 1: In the autumn of twenty thirteen, a young mother and
- 0:05Speaker 1: her two children went missing from their home in Deltona, Florida.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Twenty eight year old Jaccinia's last contact had been a
- 0:13Speaker 1: phone call around twelve a m. The night before she vanished.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Her children did not arrive for school the next day.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Suspicions immediately turned to the most likely suspect, the husband,
- 0:27Speaker 1: who turned up unseene, claiming to have no idea what
- 0:30Speaker 1: had happened to his family. As evidence mounted against him,
- 0:35Speaker 1: he began to tell an unlikely story. Would anybody believe him?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Hi?
- 0:44Speaker 1: There, I'm Kevin and welcome to Just Thought Lounge. Today's
- 0:48Speaker 1: case has us diving into new territory for JTL, the
- 0:52Speaker 1: messy world of street gangs, their bizarre moral code, and
- 0:55Speaker 1: what it meant for one family who all vanished one
- 0:59Speaker 1: horrible night in October twenty thirteen. Let's take a look.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Jessinia Suarez met Louise Toledo at a street festival in
- 1:21Speaker 1: Orange County in two thousand and nine. They fell for
- 1:24Speaker 1: each other quickly and married only months later. Though they
- 1:28Speaker 1: made an unlikely couple, jesse was twenty four years old,
- 1:33Speaker 1: a dedicated mother to two young children, goal oriented and
- 1:37Speaker 1: career minded. Jesse was a busy working single mother. Over
- 1:42Speaker 1: the next few years, she also returned to school, taking
- 1:46Speaker 1: classes part time around a full time office job. She
- 1:50Speaker 1: worked at American Canine in Lake Mary, a company that
- 1:54Speaker 1: provides dogs to the military and police. Louise was a
- 1:59Speaker 1: few years old but only beginning to sort out his life.
- 2:03Speaker 1: He had served roughly a year in state prison on
- 2:05Speaker 1: a burglary charge and had been associated with the Latin Kings,
- 2:10Speaker 1: known at the time as semi to the gang because
- 2:13Speaker 1: he punched like a truck. Louise Toledo was also interested
- 2:17Speaker 1: in mixed martial arts. At one point, Louise was reportedly
- 2:21Speaker 1: the third highest ranking member in Florida. That is until
- 2:25Speaker 1: he served his time and decided to turn on his
- 2:28Speaker 1: former associates and his former life. He cooperated with the
- 2:33Speaker 1: state and testified in a racketeering case against other gang members,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and then he refocused his efforts on building a new life.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Louise began taking courses at community college to become a barber.
- 2:47Speaker 1: He was baptized and joined the church. He socialized with neighbors,
- 2:52Speaker 1: even carpooling to class every day with a younger student
- 2:55Speaker 1: across the street. Louise also became came a dad to
- 3:01Speaker 1: Jessinia's two children, nine year old to Lea Otto an
- 3:05Speaker 1: eight year old Michael Elijah Otto. Neighbors recounted the site
- 3:09Speaker 1: of Louise playing with the children on the front yard
- 3:12Speaker 1: was a regular occurrence. Felicita Nievez Perez spoke with her
- 3:20Speaker 1: daughter Jessinia every morning. She and her husband, Jesse's stepfather,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Reuben Perez, lived only a few blocks away from Jesse's
- 3:28Speaker 1: house on Covent Garden's Place. Around eight am on October
- 3:32Speaker 1: twenty three, Felicita called her daughter's cell phone and received
- 3:36Speaker 1: no answer. Over the next two hours, additional calls and
- 3:40Speaker 1: texts went unanswered. Felicita received no response from Louise either.
- 3:46Speaker 1: By ten am that morning, the mother was deeply concerned,
- 3:51Speaker 1: so she drove over to her daughter's house. No one
- 3:54Speaker 1: answered the front door. Felicita called the police.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Had I have got my daughters last night.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I don't feel what I told last night.
- 4:04Speaker 5: And you think maybe she's endangered by her husband?
- 4:07Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 4:08Speaker 7: Man.
- 4:10Speaker 1: The Vluja County Police had learned of an incident at
- 4:14Speaker 1: Jacinia's workplace the day before. Investigators learned that the marriage
- 4:18Speaker 1: hit a rough patch, at least in part because Jasinia
- 4:22Speaker 1: felt that Louise was neglecting his duties at home he
- 4:25Speaker 1: spent too much time playing video games. As the marriage soured,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Jacinia began an affair with a married coworker at American
- 4:34Speaker 1: Canine Solutions, a man named Kevin Dreddin. Louise grew suspicious.
- 4:40Speaker 1: He placed a spy device and some form of tracker
- 4:43Speaker 1: on her phone, and he discovered the affair. On October
- 4:47Speaker 1: twenty second, Louise arrived uninvited at the American Canine office
- 4:52Speaker 1: building and caused a scene. A colleague had called nine
- 4:56Speaker 1: to one one during the encounter.
- 5:00Speaker 7: Yes, I was wondering if I could have a police
- 5:02Speaker 7: thought that they come to an office building. We have
- 5:06Speaker 7: somebody in a building that will not leave, and he's
- 5:08Speaker 7: got an employee friend to believe yet. Yeah, we had
- 5:12Speaker 7: what the air.
- 5:14Speaker 1: When he turned up at the office building, he confronted
- 5:16Speaker 1: Jacinia and sought out Kevin, job, I do.
- 5:21Speaker 8: Go ahead and go a company kicking you whole around,
- 5:23Speaker 8: or it got through.
- 5:25Speaker 7: I'm not permit you to show it, you boppy.
- 5:27Speaker 9: I got to let me do him.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Louise eventually left the building of his own accord. Before
- 5:33Speaker 1: police arrived, Jescinia spoke with officers. She was recorded to
- 5:37Speaker 1: telling them about Louise's controlling behavior. He had even slapped
- 5:41Speaker 1: her in her office building in front of her colleagues.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Either on my home to see everything that I do
- 5:47Speaker 4: for him, but I could from health and.
- 5:49Speaker 10: Profession, looking to you plainly that no relationship works one.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Of my co workers, and get me here, right here. Literally,
- 5:58Speaker 1: he's like me, oh my god. Felicita had overheard an
- 6:03Speaker 1: argument between her daughter and her son in law the
- 6:06Speaker 1: night before. After the incident at Jesse's office, the couple
- 6:11Speaker 1: had decided that they were getting a divorce. Jesse and
- 6:15Speaker 1: Louise were with the children at their grandparents' home having dinner.
- 6:19Speaker 1: As the children ate inside, the couple discussed logistics in
- 6:23Speaker 1: the garage. Not surprisingly, the conversation turned heated at points.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Emotions were running high. As the evening wore on, Felicita
- 6:34Speaker 1: asked her daughter to stay at her house with the
- 6:36Speaker 1: children overnight to let Louise go home alone. Jessinia refused.
- 6:42Speaker 1: She believed that it was better that they talked things
- 6:44Speaker 1: through and that she and Louise handle the split amicably.
- 6:49Speaker 1: She said goodbye to her mother and took the children
- 6:51Speaker 1: home with her. It was the last time that Felicita
- 6:55Speaker 1: would see her daughter or grandchildren alive. Louise Toledo arrived
- 7:03Speaker 1: at the house while the Volucia County Police were performing
- 7:06Speaker 1: the welfare checks.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Flito came unsecene and started talking with debuties and causing
- 7:11Speaker 3: a bit of a disturbance.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Louise told officers that it appeared that his wife had
- 7:16Speaker 1: left with the children in the middle of the night.
- 7:19Speaker 1: At first, investigators considered this scenario. It was not inconceivable
- 7:24Speaker 1: that Jessinia had packed up and left the man that
- 7:27Speaker 1: she had already decided to divorce, though it did not
- 7:31Speaker 1: explain why she had not spoken with her mother, stepfather,
- 7:35Speaker 1: or sister, who were all growing extremely concerned. Jesse's twenty
- 7:40Speaker 1: thirteen Honda Accord was missing from the garage, along with
- 7:43Speaker 1: her purse and cell phone. Inside, officers found the house
- 7:48Speaker 1: was in near perfect order. It was clean, almost too clean.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Fresh laundry sat out ready for folding, and the children's
- 7:57Speaker 1: toys were scattered on the floors, but nothing was a miss.
- 8:02Speaker 1: There was no signs of a break in, distress or
- 8:05Speaker 1: a struggle. The most unsettling observation made by officers was
- 8:10Speaker 1: the smell the distinct ascent of pineesal, a popular floor cleaner.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Down the hallway towards the bedroom and master bathroom. They
- 8:19Speaker 1: smelt bleach and possibly vinegar, all mingled together in the air.
- 8:25Speaker 1: It was a nauseating mixture that immediately set off alarm bells.
- 8:30Speaker 11: It's killing us, it's killing everybody. We don't want to
- 8:32Speaker 11: even think about it anywhere, you know, we don't.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I don't want to think what happened.
- 8:39Speaker 12: I don't want to know.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Is Two neighbors, sisters who lived next door, told the
- 8:47Speaker 1: police on the scene that they have been awake late
- 8:49Speaker 1: into the night when they heard a noise coming from outside.
- 8:53Speaker 1: They could make out screams from the direction of the
- 8:56Speaker 1: Suarez Toledo home and a voice calling out more than once.
- 8:59Speaker 1: He me the girls thought that this had occurred sometime
- 9:03Speaker 1: around midnight. There were often groups of teenagers messing around
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the neighborhood after dark. Until the girl saw the
- 9:10Speaker 1: police on the street the next morning, they had dismissed
- 9:13Speaker 1: what they had heard the previous night as nothing more
- 9:16Speaker 1: than these local youths playing around in light of the
- 9:23Speaker 1: incident at the office the day before, law enforcement was
- 9:26Speaker 1: able to arrest Louise and bring him in for questioning.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Louise told detectives that he was awake at the house
- 9:33Speaker 1: the evening before until about one am. At that time,
- 9:36Speaker 1: he had walked out to the street, spoke with a neighbor,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and then chose to go sleep in his car. Jescinia
- 9:42Speaker 1: and the children were asleep in the house. He awoke
- 9:46Speaker 1: at roughly eight am and went back inside to find
- 9:49Speaker 1: that Jesse and the children had left in the night.
- 9:53Speaker 12: You will go.
- 9:54Speaker 5: You went to the house and you left.
- 9:56Speaker 10: How long were you therefore, thankfully reached its So you
- 10:01Speaker 10: walk into the house front door, right, You walked around
- 10:05Speaker 10: and you didn't see him. You got to the bedrooms, right,
- 10:08Speaker 10: you didn't see if the bedrooms.
- 10:10Speaker 11: Checking out cars dog.
- 10:12Speaker 10: We started looking for her phone on your phone from
- 10:16Speaker 10: the house phone to that house.
- 10:18Speaker 11: Okay, just if I miss anything, you let me down.
- 10:23Speaker 10: You set up that out here, so you change or
- 10:28Speaker 10: you get closed.
- 10:30Speaker 11: You take a shower at the master bathroom.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Louise questioned whether Jina and the children were even missing.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It had only been a few hours.
- 10:40Speaker 13: So she's with her mom.
- 10:41Speaker 11: Why was she missing her nothing.
- 10:43Speaker 13: Mom. That's the thing is you know, that's the thing.
- 10:45Speaker 13: I think that she is insight because you guys stayed
- 10:48Speaker 13: with him out.
- 10:51Speaker 12: Sure.
- 10:51Speaker 13: Sorry, so my wife was not the type of everybody
- 10:55Speaker 13: every move you know she well.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Questioning continued. Investigators were in contact with officers at the
- 11:02Speaker 1: house who continued to speak with neighbors. The two young
- 11:06Speaker 1: girls who overheard screaming in the middle of the night
- 11:09Speaker 1: were not the only witnesses who came forward. A college
- 11:14Speaker 1: student who lived with his mother across the street, Tyshan Jackson,
- 11:18Speaker 1: came forward as well, albeit reluctantly. Taishan had a stressful morning.
- 11:25Speaker 1: The community college student told police that it began at
- 11:28Speaker 1: six a m. When Louise Toledo knocked on his door
- 11:31Speaker 1: and asked him for a favor. Could he get into
- 11:34Speaker 1: his car and follow Louise about a half an hour
- 11:36Speaker 1: south to Lake Mary. It seems that Louise needed to
- 11:40Speaker 1: drop off his wife's car, the Honda Accord, and then
- 11:43Speaker 1: get a lift home. Ti threw on his sandals and
- 11:46Speaker 1: grabbed his car keys, expecting to follow Louise to a
- 11:49Speaker 1: mechanics shop or someplace similar. Maybe the Honda needed a
- 11:53Speaker 1: break job. He thought, but that was not in fact
- 11:57Speaker 1: what he was about to witness. Taishan was as to
- 12:00Speaker 1: recount his story to detectives at the station. He spoke
- 12:03Speaker 1: with them for hours. He said that he followed Louise,
- 12:07Speaker 1: who drove the Honda Accord for about twenty to thirty minutes.
- 12:11Speaker 1: When they reached a large parking lot at the Public's supermarket,
- 12:15Speaker 1: Louise parked the Honda ty then watched as his neighbor
- 12:19Speaker 1: got out of the vehicle and systematically and thoroughly took
- 12:23Speaker 1: a spray cleaner and a rag to wipe down the car.
- 12:26Speaker 1: He cleaned the door, the door jam, and all the handles.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Exactly happened as soon as you pull out.
- 12:32Speaker 13: What do you see?
- 12:33Speaker 4: I see Lewis standing outside like he's about a door,
- 12:37Speaker 4: and he looked back at me the like he looked
- 12:39Speaker 4: back and started cleaning the car down, wiping it out
- 12:42Speaker 4: as soon as.
- 12:42Speaker 12: He was like cleaning the car.
- 12:43Speaker 1: So I had a film.
- 12:44Speaker 12: I saw bad happened the house last night.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Louise instructed Tie to move into the passenger seat of
- 12:50Speaker 1: his car so that he could drive them back to Deltona.
- 12:53Speaker 1: On the ride back, the two men were silent. The
- 12:56Speaker 1: tension in the car was palpable as Tye tried to
- 12:58Speaker 1: sort out what exactly he had just witnessed, and things
- 13:03Speaker 1: only grew more unsettling for the college student when Louise
- 13:06Speaker 1: pulled into the parking lot of an apartment building, stopped
- 13:09Speaker 1: the car and began disposing of items he had carried
- 13:13Speaker 1: with him in a plastic bag. This included the spray
- 13:16Speaker 1: cleaner and rag used to clean his wife's car, as
- 13:19Speaker 1: well as one of the floor mats. Ty was dropped
- 13:23Speaker 1: off around the corner from his house near to a
- 13:26Speaker 1: seven eleven. He walked into the store and purchased a
- 13:29Speaker 1: pack of cigarettes. Stressed and confused, he told officers that
- 13:33Speaker 1: before going home, he smoked several of them. Then he
- 13:37Speaker 1: tried to call his mother at work repeatedly to ask
- 13:40Speaker 1: her what he should do next. In another interrogation room,
- 13:49Speaker 1: Louise was being pressured to explain what Tyshon had just
- 13:53Speaker 1: offered if his story could be verified. Everything Louise had
- 13:57Speaker 1: said about his missing wife and children so far was
- 14:00Speaker 1: a platant lie. I'm sure whether she and the kids
- 14:03Speaker 1: were still alive, they were running out of time.
- 14:07Speaker 11: Do you have anything to do whether disappears?
- 14:10Speaker 14: No know nothing whatsoever. No, Okay, if information of information
- 14:18Speaker 14: that's ingest that you may have, Okay, that's suppossible.
- 14:22Speaker 11: It's impossible.
- 14:23Speaker 12: I supposize that.
- 14:26Speaker 11: Okay, regardless of what happens, it is what it is
- 14:30Speaker 11: out right.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I may abjected right now to find out where they are,
- 14:36Speaker 2: where they're see or not.
- 14:39Speaker 13: It's still and I know what's happened and exactly that's
- 14:42Speaker 13: what you happen, and that's what happened between the air
- 14:45Speaker 13: and that's how it's been since you know last thing.
- 14:49Speaker 13: There's nothing you leave it out that night, seriously, a
- 14:51Speaker 13: better interaction. There's nothing that I can think.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Of admitting nothing. Louise was confronted with what Tyshawn had
- 14:59Speaker 1: told investigators one room over, Ryan.
- 15:06Speaker 10: I followed and got the car.
- 15:10Speaker 11: Yeah, that's your day.
- 15:15Speaker 2: This person has no reason to eye to us. It
- 15:19Speaker 2: was one of a favor to you. Containing there's what
- 15:23Speaker 2: he was expressed to us. You know what I'm saying.
- 15:26Speaker 11: And that person really would have no reason why.
- 15:31Speaker 10: Us about it.
- 15:33Speaker 5: And you can go through house things to see if
- 15:35Speaker 5: any other possessions or in his possession.
- 15:37Speaker 12: Things like that.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Tie led detectives to the public's parking lot, where they
- 15:42Speaker 1: located Jenya's Honda Accord. Inside they found Jennya's purse for
- 15:48Speaker 1: ID and wallet, as well as her badge for work.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Her cell phone had fallen in between the front seat
- 15:54Speaker 1: and the console. There was no sign of her or
- 15:57Speaker 1: the children. The car was later processed for DNA, blood
- 16:01Speaker 1: or fingerprints, but returned nothing of value. They found only
- 16:05Speaker 1: a garage door opener that still had a fingerprint on
- 16:08Speaker 1: it that was from Louise Toledo. In the dumpsters where
- 16:13Speaker 1: Tie claimed Louise had disposed of multiple items, police uncovered clothing,
- 16:18Speaker 1: children's toys, a barber's apron, the trunk liner from Jessenya's car,
- 16:24Speaker 1: as well as a dirty boot. A small but clearly
- 16:28Speaker 1: visible speck of blood was found on the discarded boot.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Traces of blood were also found on the floor mat,
- 16:35Speaker 1: which had been taken from Gusena's car. As predicted. Forensic
- 16:41Speaker 1: teams in the house found that targeted areas had been
- 16:44Speaker 1: cleaned thoroughly. In the garbage bin outside of the home,
- 16:48Speaker 1: an officer found a trash bag smelling of vinegar and
- 16:51Speaker 1: containing multiple empty bottles of cleaner, as well as a
- 16:55Speaker 1: very wet shower curtain. Detectives also uncovered a collection of
- 16:59Speaker 1: news paper articles in the house discussing recent activities of
- 17:03Speaker 1: the Latin Kings, Louise's former organization. It seems that he
- 17:07Speaker 1: had left the life, but his interest in the gang remained.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Despite the cleaning efforts, there was one area that had
- 17:15Speaker 1: been missed. In the bathroom just off of the master bedroom.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Twenty three traces of blood were identified. They were spattered
- 17:24Speaker 1: across the closet door, the doorframe to the bathroom, the bathtub,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and floor. Fourteen of these samples returned the same match
- 17:33Speaker 1: to nine year old to Leah. Her mother and little
- 17:37Speaker 1: brother's blood was not found anywhere in the house.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Based on our investigative findings, the Luskunty Sheriff's Office's Major
- 17:47Speaker 3: Case Unit has discovered that the missing mother from Deltona
- 17:51Speaker 3: and her two children are deceased. The search for the
- 17:55Speaker 3: victims' bodies and the investigation into what happened is ongoing.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Now.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Because the ongoing nature of this, there's not really much
- 18:05Speaker 3: else that I can tell you. There's not many other
- 18:07Speaker 3: investigative details that I can reveal.
- 18:09Speaker 15: An eight year old and a nine year old castes
- 18:11Speaker 15: someone for them to kill them.
- 18:15Speaker 14: There's no words for that.
- 18:19Speaker 1: A massive search effort was launched to locate Jessenia, te
- 18:23Speaker 1: Leah and Michael.
- 18:24Speaker 15: We are going to take and stay with this till
- 18:26Speaker 15: we've searched everything that we think we can possibly search.
- 18:30Speaker 15: I'm starting once again back at the center, back at
- 18:33Speaker 15: the house, and from there we're going to start expanding out.
- 18:36Speaker 15: We've set it up in the search and every.
- 18:38Speaker 11: Point to time my brind hits my daughter, I can.
- 18:41Speaker 10: Put closer to this.
- 18:43Speaker 11: You can't sit home, No I can't, No way I'm
- 18:45Speaker 11: going to sit at home.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Two days had passed since the family went missing, and
- 18:52Speaker 1: Louise was still refusing to admit any responsibility. Then, during
- 18:57Speaker 1: his third interview, under pressure from the increasing evidence stacking
- 19:00Speaker 1: up against him, Louise broke down. He began to offer
- 19:05Speaker 1: a confession, or at least parts of one. He claimed
- 19:09Speaker 1: that on the night of October twenty second, Tyshawn Jackson
- 19:12Speaker 1: had come over to his house to play with his PlayStation.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Jesseennia hated it when he played video games, he said,
- 19:19Speaker 1: Having already argued earlier in the day and a divorce
- 19:23Speaker 1: on the horizon, this small irritation sparked an argument that
- 19:27Speaker 1: quickly went from heated to explosive going.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Off on me.
- 19:31Speaker 16: Wouldever, She told that she want anybody at least want
- 19:36Speaker 16: me get at the house.
- 19:37Speaker 8: I told her I didn't have to go.
- 19:39Speaker 12: She came in grab.
- 19:42Speaker 8: Yeah, she grabbed me for the beat, grabbing me get
- 19:53Speaker 8: it open. She fell out on the floor the deck,
- 19:59Speaker 8: looking at him.
- 20:00Speaker 1: He couldn't bring Louise Toledo was trained in martial arts.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Mimicking a chopping action. He said a single strike had
- 20:09Speaker 1: been the fatal blow. He did this in response to
- 20:13Speaker 1: her attacking him. On the crucial question of what happened
- 20:17Speaker 1: to the children, Louise would admit to nothing. It was Tyshawn,
- 20:22Speaker 1: he said, who saw them as potential witnesses to what
- 20:25Speaker 1: had just happened to their mother. Jessennia's death would be
- 20:28Speaker 1: interpreted as murder, and simply being present would implicate him.
- 20:33Speaker 1: It was a risk that the college student was unwilling
- 20:36Speaker 1: to take.
- 20:39Speaker 13: He came back up and he asked me when she
- 20:41Speaker 13: was dead.
- 20:41Speaker 8: I said yeah, he went back to the.
- 20:44Speaker 11: Bath for her.
- 20:45Speaker 16: Blah blah blah. Say, oh the gods, I saw you
- 20:48Speaker 16: killed my can bom sweets at the show. We put
- 20:53Speaker 16: him in a car and it chuck. I helped him,
- 20:55Speaker 16: carried them.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Hey left me.
- 20:58Speaker 14: I started cleaning everything up.
- 21:01Speaker 13: No way he do it, though, I don't know.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I'll tell you.
- 21:03Speaker 13: I don't know where he at.
- 21:05Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Louise maintained that the bodies of his family were driven
- 21:13Speaker 1: from the house by ty Jackson and hidden somewhere. He
- 21:16Speaker 1: had no idea where they were. Over hours of intense
- 21:20Speaker 1: interrogation by the Vlujah County police, he never wavered from
- 21:24Speaker 1: this assertion. The only hope of finding Jessenia and the
- 21:28Speaker 1: children was with Louise or perhaps his alleged accomplice, Ty Jackson.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And he put you as a primary person responsible for
- 21:39Speaker 1: some of their deaths.
- 21:40Speaker 14: Not all of them, but some of them.
- 21:43Speaker 4: He did not put me in no promenenty straight like that.
- 21:46Speaker 12: He didn't.
- 21:46Speaker 8: Why would I?
- 21:47Speaker 11: Why would Why would I.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Not have anything to do in death us. I did
- 21:52Speaker 4: not leave my house Wednesday night at all. Zero left
- 21:56Speaker 4: my house Thursday morning.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Tishan was not placed under arrest. His assistance in locating
- 22:04Speaker 1: the Honda accord and the numerous items disposed of in
- 22:07Speaker 1: the local dumpsters convinced a law enforcement that he was
- 22:11Speaker 1: telling the truth. Though he had hesitated to come forward
- 22:14Speaker 1: that morning, Ty said that he was frightened of what
- 22:17Speaker 1: his former friend would do to him if he was
- 22:20Speaker 1: spotted speaking with police at the house, but once he
- 22:23Speaker 1: began talking, his story lined up. He told the police
- 22:27Speaker 1: that on the car ride back to Deltona that morning,
- 22:30Speaker 1: Louise had spoken to him only once. He turned to
- 22:34Speaker 1: Tie and simply stated, I.
- 22:37Speaker 9: Snapped talking like you and I right now, Orday, he's
- 22:40Speaker 9: like an elevator or quiet.
- 22:42Speaker 10: What was like?
- 22:42Speaker 13: It was?
- 22:43Speaker 4: It was kind of like like Knda Kolumn almost kind
- 22:46Speaker 4: of Conda scared me the way might lived at me
- 22:48Speaker 4: and said.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Searches continued in the woodland areas surrounding Deltona. Volunteer organizations
- 22:56Speaker 1: from out of state descended upon the region to offer
- 22:59Speaker 1: further assistance, but they kept coming up empty. Every item
- 23:03Speaker 1: that could possibly have been linked to the massacre was
- 23:06Speaker 1: bagged and tested. A still wearable pair of children's shoes
- 23:10Speaker 1: in a park, trash can, an abandoned jacket in the woods.
- 23:15Speaker 1: None of these items were found to have any value
- 23:17Speaker 1: to the investigation.
- 23:20Speaker 15: Toledo could tell us where they're at and we wouldn't
- 23:22Speaker 15: have to worry about this.
- 23:23Speaker 14: We could take and bring.
- 23:25Speaker 15: Closure to this and make sure the families know where
- 23:28Speaker 15: their loved ones are.
- 23:30Speaker 1: For weeks following the disappearance, ground searches took place across
- 23:34Speaker 1: three counties. Retention ponds within a mile of the Suarez
- 23:37Speaker 1: Toledo house were combed, and a local landfill was picked
- 23:41Speaker 1: through for any evidence that had not been located in
- 23:44Speaker 1: the dumpsters. There was a concern that without locating the
- 23:48Speaker 1: bodies of the family, the state would be unable to
- 23:51Speaker 1: bring murder charges, or that prosecutors may have problems getting
- 23:55Speaker 1: a conviction. But they had the blood in the bathroom,
- 23:59Speaker 1: a partial care confession, the dumpster items, and Louise's explosive
- 24:03Speaker 1: behavior in the office over his wife's affair gave a
- 24:07Speaker 1: clear motive.
- 24:09Speaker 3: It is possible to prosecute someone without a physical body
- 24:15Speaker 3: of a victim.
- 24:16Speaker 13: It's very rare, but it has been done.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Louise Toledo faced first and second degree murder charges for
- 24:24Speaker 1: the killing of his wife and two children. He faced
- 24:27Speaker 1: a possible death sentence if convicted. Ann Wedge McMillan was
- 24:33Speaker 1: the prosecutor with whom Louise Toledo cooperated in the racketeering
- 24:37Speaker 1: case against a leader of the Latin Kings in Florida.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Jose Perez, also known as King goofy years earlier, the
- 24:45Speaker 1: attorney spoke with Louise again following his murder arrest. He
- 24:49Speaker 1: had agreed to talk to her once, perhaps he would again.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Did he talk about cleaning the house?
- 24:55Speaker 6: He did talk about cleaning the house.
- 24:57Speaker 1: He talked about cleaning his house after his family's debt. Yes,
- 25:01Speaker 1: but Toledo didn't tell her where the bodies are and
- 25:04Speaker 1: Wedge McMillan thinks it's possible he legitimately doesn't know.
- 25:07Speaker 6: I think the reason he doesn't know is that he
- 25:10Speaker 6: probably got someone else involved so that he would have
- 25:13Speaker 6: plausible deniability.
- 25:16Speaker 1: In his gangster days, Louise was known as King at
- 25:18Speaker 1: Semi and reportedly also a high ranking member of the gang.
- 25:23Speaker 1: According to McMillan, he was considered the warlord or enforcer.
- 25:27Speaker 6: His knowledge of how to clean a crime scene, how
- 25:31Speaker 6: to dispose of evidence, how to dispose of bodies, he
- 25:35Speaker 6: was the expert at that he was in certain circumstances.
- 25:39Speaker 6: The hierarchy of the King's will sanction a murder they
- 25:42Speaker 6: solely on disrespect, but.
- 25:44Speaker 1: The gang does not sanction the killing of children. For
- 25:47Speaker 1: this reason, McMillan suggested Louise needed to point the finger
- 25:51Speaker 1: at somebody else. At trial, the prosecution argued that Louise
- 25:58Speaker 1: had been motivated by a jealous rage. They called Jissenya's
- 26:02Speaker 1: co worker with whom she had a brief affair to
- 26:05Speaker 1: establish motive. Kevin Dreddin was also the last person aside
- 26:09Speaker 1: from her husband to speak with her before she died.
- 26:13Speaker 11: Did you and Josinas for spend additional time together away
- 26:17Speaker 11: from the other employees?
- 26:18Speaker 12: We do okay?
- 26:20Speaker 11: During that time? Did you have an affair with Josinas
- 26:23Speaker 11: Wars I didn't. Do you regret doing that?
- 26:27Speaker 13: I do.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Kevin and Jessenia had plans to meet on the afternoon
- 26:33Speaker 1: of October twenty second, the day before she died. Kevin
- 26:37Speaker 1: canceled those plans last minute. That night, after a series
- 26:41Speaker 1: of strange texts from Jossenia's phone, he finally spoke with
- 26:45Speaker 1: her directly. She sounded strange. Her speech was slurred. She
- 26:51Speaker 1: was scared.
- 26:53Speaker 11: That's response. Were you satisfied that everything was okay in
- 26:56Speaker 11: her world? No, Fred was Jaceinya's This was his speech slurred?
- 27:02Speaker 11: That evening it was okay? Was it a difficult conversation?
- 27:06Speaker 11: It was Okay, how does she seem to you? Was
- 27:09Speaker 11: she happy? Was she upset? Was she sad? She didn't seem.
- 27:14Speaker 12: Well, she wasn't happy.
- 27:16Speaker 13: She was.
- 27:18Speaker 12: Very soft in her words and very severely slurred in
- 27:23Speaker 12: her speech.
- 27:25Speaker 11: Did she seem to want to stay in her home
- 27:28Speaker 11: that evening?
- 27:29Speaker 12: Yes?
- 27:30Speaker 11: Were you concerned for her safety staying there?
- 27:32Speaker 2: I was?
- 27:33Speaker 12: I mean, I was law enforcement, and the first thing
- 27:35Speaker 12: he tell you to do is separate for any domestic
- 27:39Speaker 12: violence and on totally think.
- 27:42Speaker 11: About the kids.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Louise's defense focused on the possibility that Tyshawn Jackson was
- 27:49Speaker 1: responsible for the murders of Tala and Michael. Investigators had
- 27:53Speaker 1: given him a polygraph test. They searched his house and
- 27:56Speaker 1: his car for anything linking him to the crime scene.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Nothing incriminating was uncovered. When Ty took the stand, he
- 28:04Speaker 1: explained why he had initially refused to speak with law
- 28:08Speaker 1: enforcement on the morning of the disappearance. He was frightened
- 28:12Speaker 1: of Louise Toledo. He told the jury about what he
- 28:15Speaker 1: had witnessed that morning. Describe his behavior for us.
- 28:22Speaker 4: He didn't he looked out the norm. He was just
- 28:25Speaker 4: like kind of frantic almost. I want to say, what
- 28:27Speaker 4: was he doing? And he was driving like looking around,
- 28:30Speaker 4: like just looking at every word is kind of like
- 28:33Speaker 4: walking back and forth. I don't like he was driving
- 28:35Speaker 4: like looking back before and looking like like he's like
- 28:36Speaker 4: looking for something. Was he speaking to you? He didn't
- 28:41Speaker 4: speak much to me, but he said one thing.
- 28:43Speaker 11: Really what did he say?
- 28:45Speaker 4: He said?
- 28:45Speaker 11: He snapped when he said that to you? How did
- 28:49Speaker 11: he say it?
- 28:52Speaker 4: Just like I don't I'm sorry, I can't really explain it,
- 28:59Speaker 4: like like something happened or something like that, like yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 4: to go, like he had bought up emotion inside him
- 29:03Speaker 4: something like that.
- 29:04Speaker 3: You know, was he looking?
- 29:06Speaker 11: Where was he looking?
- 29:08Speaker 4: At that point? He was looking at me?
- 29:11Speaker 11: Did you ask him what he meant?
- 29:13Speaker 2: No?
- 29:14Speaker 4: No, sir, why I didn't want further details. I kind
- 29:17Speaker 4: of seeing what happened earlier, and like in him saying
- 29:21Speaker 4: that kind of put two and two together. Something wrong happened,
- 29:23Speaker 4: And honest, I was just I wanted to get home.
- 29:27Speaker 11: You like the kids, they're nice kids. Do you feel
- 29:31Speaker 11: close to him?
- 29:32Speaker 10: Yes?
- 29:34Speaker 11: Do you have anything to do with their death?
- 29:36Speaker 13: No.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Sergeant Kurt Chops, who questioned Louise for days after the disappearance,
- 29:47Speaker 1: told the jury that Louise had in fact implied that
- 29:51Speaker 1: he knew where the bodies of his family had been hidden.
- 29:54Speaker 1: On the last day of his questioning, Louise repeatedly requested
- 29:58Speaker 1: trips to the station's bathroom, which was directly across the
- 30:01Speaker 1: hallway from the interview room where he was being questioned.
- 30:06Speaker 1: On the second trip, the sergeant stood near to the
- 30:08Speaker 1: doorway speaking with his detainee. According to the sergeant, his
- 30:12Speaker 1: mobile recording device slipped into his pocket by a request
- 30:16Speaker 1: of Louise, lost a battery and stopped recording. The former
- 30:20Speaker 1: gang member then asked him for a favor.
- 30:25Speaker 11: He asked me in a pleading voice, that he wanted
- 30:27Speaker 11: to go home, asked me to take him home. Okay,
- 30:31Speaker 11: did you say, did you ask him why he wanted
- 30:33Speaker 11: to go home? I did, And he went into how
- 30:38Speaker 11: he just wanted to die. He wanted to die where
- 30:43Speaker 11: his family died.
- 30:44Speaker 7: Okay?
- 30:45Speaker 12: And can did he did?
- 30:46Speaker 11: He get explicit with you on sort of how this
- 30:50Speaker 11: is going to go down at his house?
- 30:52Speaker 13: Why?
- 30:52Speaker 15: Why?
- 30:53Speaker 2: I mean, how was he going to die at his house?
- 30:54Speaker 17: Yes, he initiated that I can, I can shoot him,
- 30:59Speaker 17: we can take him back to the house.
- 31:02Speaker 11: I can loosen his cuffs and myself.
- 31:05Speaker 17: Or another deputy right could shoot him as he's trying
- 31:08Speaker 17: to escape, or he can grab a knife and try
- 31:11Speaker 17: to escape. Tell me where the bodies were first, and
- 31:16Speaker 17: then he replied immediately that he's never going to tell
- 31:19Speaker 17: me where the bodies are.
- 31:21Speaker 11: So the defendant said, I'm never going to tell you
- 31:23Speaker 11: where the bodies are. That's correct.
- 31:26Speaker 17: Right after my first statement on just telling us where
- 31:28Speaker 17: the bodies are first, he responded with I'm never going
- 31:31Speaker 17: to tell where the bodies are. And then he became aggressive,
- 31:36Speaker 17: and that's when I called an investigator board up and
- 31:39Speaker 17: we concluded me the interviewed there, okay.
- 31:43Speaker 1: After some time back in the original interview room, Louise
- 31:47Speaker 1: again requested to use the bathroom for a third time
- 31:51Speaker 1: that session. The sergeant took Louise across the hall. This time,
- 31:55Speaker 1: Louise had hatched yet another plan. He managed to surprise
- 31:59Speaker 1: the officers by pushing the door, which opened inwards closed.
- 32:04Speaker 1: From inside the bathroom, the sergeant heard a noise similar
- 32:07Speaker 1: to shattering glass. Louise had smashed the mirror that had
- 32:11Speaker 1: hung above the sink. He used the pieces to cut
- 32:14Speaker 1: himself on the arm.
- 32:16Speaker 11: And what did you find once you were able to
- 32:18Speaker 11: make entry into the basket. Well, we were able to
- 32:20Speaker 11: actually we weren't able to open a door at that time.
- 32:23Speaker 11: We were able to put a hole in the door.
- 32:24Speaker 17: We were able to taste him through the door, at
- 32:26Speaker 17: which time it allowed us to push the door open
- 32:30Speaker 17: and we were able to drank him out okay.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Louise was treated in the hospital for non life threatening injuries.
- 32:39Speaker 1: The prosecution argued that Jasnia's affair had given Louise a
- 32:43Speaker 1: justification in his mind to lose his temper and kill her,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but he would not admit to killing his children because
- 32:50Speaker 1: there could never be a justification for that.
- 32:55Speaker 11: So the plan at that point was to deny what
- 32:59Speaker 11: he could not knit.
- 33:04Speaker 3: If he admitted killing the children, that.
- 33:06Speaker 10: Was the endgame.
- 33:08Speaker 3: He had to find someone else to blame for their murder,
- 33:12Speaker 3: and that's where Tashawn Jackson comes in.
- 33:16Speaker 1: The jury found Louise Toledo guilty of two counts of
- 33:19Speaker 1: first degree murder for the deaths of Tealia and Michael Otto.
- 33:23Speaker 1: He was convicted of second degree murder for the death
- 33:25Speaker 1: of Jessinia. In the sentencing phase of his trial, the
- 33:29Speaker 1: murderer's attorneys bought to keep their client off of death row,
- 33:33Speaker 1: though He had initially requested to waive the mitigation phase,
- 33:36Speaker 1: hoping for a death sentence. During the trial, Louise's cooperation
- 33:41Speaker 1: with the state to bring down King at Goofy and
- 33:44Speaker 1: other members of the Latin Kings was highly publicized. At
- 33:48Speaker 1: his sentencing, Louise stated that a one sided story, saying
- 33:52Speaker 1: that I testified against the head Latin King and that
- 33:56Speaker 1: alone right there basically put a hunt on my head.
- 34:00Speaker 1: If he was sentenced to life on death row, Louise
- 34:02Speaker 1: would have been afforded greater protection. Death row inmates each
- 34:07Speaker 1: have their own cell and are escorted in handcuffs when
- 34:09Speaker 1: moving around without exception anywhere outside of their cells. The
- 34:14Speaker 1: inmates are kept at a distance from each other if
- 34:16Speaker 1: more than one is out of his cell at a time. Second,
- 34:20Speaker 1: Louise stated, I've been convicted of a crime against children,
- 34:24Speaker 1: so Latin Kings don't sanction that, and I have been
- 34:28Speaker 1: convicted of a crime against a woman and they don't
- 34:30Speaker 1: sanction that either. He felt that he would be safer
- 34:34Speaker 1: on death row and regardless of whether the jury spared
- 34:38Speaker 1: his life, he was being handed a death sentence. His
- 34:42Speaker 1: final statement at the hearing made this clear, if I
- 34:46Speaker 1: touch any institution. I'm a dead man walking the minute
- 34:49Speaker 1: I hit that compound. Two of the twelve jurors hearing
- 34:54Speaker 1: the case determined that Louise Toledo should not be put
- 34:58Speaker 1: to death.
- 35:01Speaker 9: Did yours were asked and if you weren't remorseful about
- 35:03Speaker 9: the Gillies by about wealth to zero? They said not
- 35:09Speaker 9: not even the two people wanted to stare your life
- 35:12Speaker 9: abound any remorse in your actions or your savings. I'm
- 35:17Speaker 9: totally concurred to find I don't believe you're remorse and
- 35:24Speaker 9: as such, you will receive no mercy from the floor.
- 35:29Speaker 1: He was instead handed down three life sentences without the
- 35:33Speaker 1: possibility of parole.
- 35:39Speaker 5: He knows how the prison system works, and you'll get
- 35:44Speaker 5: what's coming to whether it's here on earth, it comes up.
- 35:50Speaker 5: I'm just happy with the decision, happy with the judge,
- 35:54Speaker 5: and I'm happy I don't have to see this man.
- 35:57Speaker 5: I believe you.
- 36:02Speaker 1: As of April twenty twenty four, Louis Toledo's prison record
- 36:05Speaker 1: is active. He is currently serving three concurrent life sentences
- 36:09Speaker 1: in the general prison population. Louise Toledo has stuck to
- 36:13Speaker 1: his story. He insists that he is not responsible for
- 36:18Speaker 1: the deaths of Talia and Michael and he has no
- 36:21Speaker 1: idea where his family is. That was the tragic case
- 36:28Speaker 1: of Jasnya Suarez, Talia and Michael Otto and the former
- 36:32Speaker 1: gang enforcer Louise Toledo. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
- 36:37Speaker 1: A special shout out to Lisa Marie who has joined
- 36:41Speaker 1: the members lounge. Your extra support is really appreciated. I'm
