- 0:23Welcome to Anime club and we're pre recording this week because
- 0:27I am taking my lovely partner Molly out for some food and it
- 0:31is currently 9:00 PM the day before and we're both tired.
- 0:37Very, so very tired. We've we've both had really long
- 0:40days where we've both had to go to places and do things early in
- 0:45the morning. Yeah, I'm not.
- 0:49I'm not long in from work to be to be honest, I'm there.
- 0:53But anyway, how you doing, Phoebes?
- 0:57I'm all right tired. The dog keeps barking.
- 1:00It's fine. He normally does.
- 1:03I think he sees my face. Does it?
- 1:05I wish. I wish I could.
- 1:06Live up north. Eddie would hate being up north.
- 1:10It's too cold. He's a little desert dog.
- 1:13He wants to cook his tummy. Luckily in the year of 2026 we
- 1:18do actually have central heat up north now.
- 1:22What Next you're telling me you don't?
- 1:25Next, you're telling me you've got indoor plumbing.
- 1:28Not yet, but someday. One thing at a time, yeah.
- 1:32One can but dream. But yeah, this week it was
- 1:39sorry, last week it was my choice and I picked sorry, the
- 1:42category was monsters and I picked this far away at Paladin.
- 1:46I've never seen it. I'm getting that out there as a
- 1:48as an early excuse you've never seen.
- 1:52That How do you think about your choice, Chris?
- 1:56It's proud of yourself. We'll get into it, we'll get
- 1:59into it. But yeah, I'd saw wanted a bit
- 2:03of A twist on the the monster trope and I'd saw this for a
- 2:10while where it was a little boy. I think it's an Isaac I maybe
- 2:16it's not really explained in the first 3 episodes very much or I
- 2:19wasn't paying that much attention.
- 2:21No, it is explained in the first episode.
- 2:25Well, sort of. And his this is where I messaged
- 2:29you about the whole reincarnation thing.
- 2:31So Issachai does often have like have someone dies and then they
- 2:36wake up in another world. So they like get hit by a truck.
- 2:39In like the vending machine anime we watched, he gets hit by
- 2:42a truck by a vending machine truck.
- 2:45Deep irony, and then wakes up as a vending machine.
- 2:48His favorite thing. Life is great.
- 2:52That was. Out of me, wasn't it?
- 2:54That was great. I love that.
- 2:59And I do think there is something about in in Eastern
- 3:05religions, reincarnation is more of a thing, right.
- 3:09So I think that speaks to some of the prevalence of Issachar is
- 3:12in Japanese anime. But yeah, you see him like in an
- 3:17office and share like living his life kind of in shadow.
- 3:22Yeah. He just mentioned he was a
- 3:25disappointment to his parents and like, yeah, four people in
- 3:29the first of, sorry, five in the first 3 episodes.
- 3:32And it's like, what's he talking about?
- 3:33Who's his parents? He's like in another life.
- 3:36So in another life I have. And he's like, I have a secret,
- 3:39too. I haven't told her that.
- 3:43I remember everything from my former life.
- 3:47Yeah. I had that.
- 3:48Advantage. Yeah.
- 3:50So you see him like remembering being an office guy.
- 3:55Yeah, but we we would actually talk about this on the Discord
- 3:58because we were talking about why there's so many Issa guys.
- 4:02And I was like, well, it was really popular in the West in
- 4:05the 80s and 90s because you've got like, Jumanji Pagemaster.
- 4:10And yeah, because you threw out Pagemaster as a wild card and I
- 4:14was like, Pagemaster isn't in Issachar.
- 4:15And then I was like, no, Pagemaster is classic Issachar.
- 4:19You were 100% right, Jumanji. I would argue maybe not.
- 4:26Well it's a good debate for a non enemy.
- 4:29Because do you, do you think, do you think because Jumundi it
- 4:37kind of it's a blurring between the worlds, like some of some of
- 4:40the Jumanji world comes into the real world?
- 4:44You mean like a vendor machine has real world things that go
- 4:47into a dungeon? Can't let that.
- 4:49No, no, as in like as in the animals come out of the book
- 4:54into the real world as well as people going into into the
- 4:58Jumanji game. It's not a book, it's game.
- 5:00Maybe, but can you remember the old films and it was an old
- 5:05trope, even Language of the wardrobe, Yeah, kind of in this
- 5:09guy, even though they don't die or. 100 they actually they do
- 5:14die. That's that's the thing in the
- 5:16last. So in the, you know, as a good
- 5:19Christian child, I've read all of the books as a kid and the
- 5:26whole thing is that in in the air like so that so they go into
- 5:31to Narnia multiple times. But at the end of their story
- 5:36that you have this sense of the the reason that they get like
- 5:39evacuated to the house with the wardrobe is because it's the
- 5:42Second World War and you there's like this kind of ambiguous
- 5:48scene, but it's also not that ambiguous because he does.
- 5:51They talk about death openly. Like the whole last book is all
- 5:54about what happens to us after we die.
- 5:57And the implication is that they get caught in a bomb on when
- 6:00they're on a train. So like there is this question
- 6:05around like, because they then are like told they can't ever go
- 6:10back to their own life. I think that's it.
- 6:13After that they're like permanently in the place.
- 6:16But they also have like grow up in in the line, the witch and
- 6:19the wardrobe, which is the third book.
- 6:21They live a whole life and they they become old people together.
- 6:26And then they magically find their way back to the wardrobe
- 6:28and back to their own world where they become children
- 6:30again, but with a memory of having been kings and Queens of
- 6:34Narnia. It's fucking mental.
- 6:36Like if that happened, I know this wouldn't happen in real
- 6:39life, but if you had lived a whole life as a a normal person
- 6:44and then you went into that world as a child, it would be
- 6:47you. It would cause some sort of
- 6:49mental damage. Yeah, well, and there's this
- 6:52whole, there's a whole Superman comic about something very
- 6:55similar where Superman gets trapped in like a kind of
- 6:58fantasy world by one of the villains.
- 7:01And the whole comic deals with him like his mates trying to
- 7:05break him out of this fantasy world.
- 7:08And he's got a wife and children and a really happy life.
- 7:12So he's trapped in the happiness of and the fantasy.
- 7:16And so when they break him out, he's furious because they've
- 7:20taken away everything from him because he can still remember
- 7:23having, like, had a child and as if it was real.
- 7:27Like it's a truly horrifying concept.
- 7:31So he had experienced the dad's chair in the hospital for
- 7:34nothing. That's the hardest part.
- 7:39That is the hardest part and men, we don't talk about how bad
- 7:41men have it during labour. I know, I know I'm glad you
- 7:45recognize that FIEB because it is it is an issue, but before
- 7:50before I get consults. So we talk about the the plots
- 7:55to the faraway paladin. Do you want to do?
- 7:57That. Or.
- 7:59I don't mind. I think I've done, I've done.
- 8:00I went off on a massive tangent. You go for it.
- 8:03Yeah, no Butler. And so I'm doing this on me head
- 8:06because we're watching first 3 episodes and I don't think it
- 8:09gives you that much plot. A lot of stuff happens but none
- 8:12of it plot. This is a very little towards
- 8:15the end of what there's a there's a intro which talks
- 8:20about gods and undead kingdoms and stuff, but it basically it
- 8:25follows William or Young Will, who gets found in this land of
- 8:31the dead where there's there's no humans.
- 8:33There's just like little skellies with little bits of red
- 8:37on them, which I think is meant to be flesh, I don't know, or
- 8:40blood or magic, but it gets so little William, the baby gets
- 8:46found by three beings. One of them's called Blood, the
- 8:50skeleton. The other one's called Mary
- 8:53who's a mummy and there's another one called Augustus
- 8:56which who was a ghost and so the ghost Augustus is a quite a
- 9:03powerful and famous mage before he died Blood.
- 9:06The skeleton is an absolute beast of a bloke or was when he
- 9:10was alive. He's kind of like.
- 9:12A big old warrior. A fighter like the tank and Mary
- 9:15is the healer who is a mummy and she's got some kind of faith I
- 9:21should praise to. Like Clericy, isn't she?
- 9:24Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but they're all dead and
- 9:28they raise this so it's like 3 mystical entities and a baby.
- 9:34That old series and it. Basically just that.
- 9:38Yeah, 2 1/2 men. Yeah, which on paper sounds
- 9:45great. There are some weird moments.
- 9:47So the first 3 episodes go through him.
- 9:50William as a baby grown up and then he gets to like 12 year old
- 9:55and it's just kind of like you're going to become a man
- 9:59soon. Because I think 13 is the the
- 10:03transition from child to young adult in this place.
- 10:07Marked by. Oh no, let's not talk about that
- 10:12yet. So it goes from them when he's
- 10:16getting of age, they're like, oh, we're going to the skeleton.
- 10:19Blood is by I'm going to have to teach you to hunt and fend for
- 10:22yourself because they don't eat. They've been like doing
- 10:24everything for him, kind of like parents should.
- 10:27And he does view them as blood is the dad, Mary is the mom and
- 10:32Augustus, the old ghost is the granddad or grandpa.
- 10:38And so this is finding family elements to it.
- 10:45But so they basically want to teach him life skills, but in
- 10:49the runway. So Augusta starts teaching him
- 10:51magic, blood starts teaching him fighting skills and hunting and
- 10:56a bit like fitness. And Mary, she's there.
- 11:02Teaches him what it means to be a man.
- 11:05So she she's she's teaching him about the history and the
- 11:09religion of the world is what I think is her contribution.
- 11:14And actually, as much as I joke about it, she teaches him what
- 11:17it means to be a man. She's trying to teach him what
- 11:18it means to be human to the best of her ability.
- 11:21Like she's trying to make sure he doesn't grow up as like a
- 11:24magic wielding psychopath killer.
- 11:27Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:31Kind of like that. Emotions and stuff.
- 11:33I didn't really get that part, but yeah.
- 11:36Yeah. Yeah, if your dad's a big
- 11:38skeleton, why do you need emotions?
- 11:40But I digress. And so.
- 11:44My dad will bone your dad. Your dad's already a bone, me
- 11:48granddad. Anyway, me granddad ghost you
- 11:54going into this when you saw the title the faraway paladin and I
- 11:58said basically young child gets raised by monsters what we first
- 12:03thought. So my first thought was young
- 12:05child gets. I was more taken by your
- 12:07description than I was by the title if I'm honest.
- 12:09The faraway paladin felt weird. Paladin, I'm in faraway less no
- 12:16walk. That's just a lot of walking.
- 12:19I hate walking, famously hate going anywhere, especially the
- 12:24far away. Yeah, yeah, it was a the paladin
- 12:34who comes and gives you gives their mate a lift because she's
- 12:37lazy. I'm in.
- 12:40So I liked the idea of being raised by monsters, but I was a
- 12:43bit like, oh, not sure, but wanted to be open minded because
- 12:48I thought it's been a while since we've done like a fantasy
- 12:51anime. Yeah, yeah, probably.
- 12:53Actually Like I think it may be vending machine was the last
- 12:56one. Probably, yeah, I would agree.
- 12:59Yeah, I mean, but, and I do. So I think that like you say,
- 13:05there's not a lot happens in the first.
- 13:08You get a lot of setup I think in the first 3 episodes, which I
- 13:13found like I think I described, I described it to you earlier,
- 13:17is it feels like a rocky montage except for they've like just
- 13:20left in all the boring bits and like that.
- 13:23I feel like they could have montaged it and got an into a
- 13:27story much quicker and more effectively.
- 13:31Personally that's it just felt a bit like padded out.
- 13:34Yeah, I get that. I mean, there was moments where
- 13:38I thought, oh, something's going to happen, like where he goes
- 13:40into the like that that land before them.
- 13:43There is the the undead city and there is an underground city
- 13:48where all the the deep lower level demons who have been
- 13:51turned into skeletons or the humans who have been turned into
- 13:56skeletons or something. The go under there in the sea
- 14:00different there's a cobalt 1. There's a COBOL.
- 14:04There's also a bit where, like, his granddad's trying to kill
- 14:06him. And I was like, oh, this is
- 14:08getting good. And then it kind of just fell
- 14:11apart a little bit. Yeah, there.
- 14:13And there are a few. There are a few moments where
- 14:16you're like, oh, nearly. And I also, I did, you know
- 14:21what? Like, it's the DND player in me.
- 14:25I fucking love a fantasy pantheon of gods where every God
- 14:29has their own domain of something.
- 14:31Like when they started talking about there's the God of light
- 14:33and the God of the dead and all of that stuff, I was like,
- 14:37hello. So I like, I do think there's
- 14:40something to it, but it feels a bit, it just feels a bit fantasy
- 14:46by numbers. I think it doesn't have any of
- 14:49the grit or the conflict in it. And if you like it doesn't
- 14:52really have any of that in the first 3 episodes.
- 14:56It doesn't, but I'm so to be entirely honest, right this I
- 15:01picked the wrong enemy. Not like, not as in like a bad
- 15:04one is in like had an idea, an enemy in mind and saw clips of
- 15:08it and wanted to watch. That oh, I'd.
- 15:10Picked the wrong one. I thought this was it and but
- 15:15this kind of feels like it's a slow starter.
- 15:21I think I could get interesting. I've seen art for this which
- 15:24I'll probably put for the thumbnail where there's like a
- 15:27like AD and D party. There was a there was a dwarf by
- 15:29the looks of it or someone with an axe and in different races
- 15:34and I think it could build to something.
- 15:36It might be cobium from on my part.
- 15:42I felt I also there are elements of this that make me go, oh, is
- 15:46it going to turn into what a weird anime?
- 15:49Like is it going to turn into like suddenly he's collecting AD
- 15:54and D party and half of them are beautiful women who are in love
- 15:57with him and fight over him constantly.
- 15:59There was a touch of, there's a touch of that tone to it.
- 16:04Yeah. Well, do you want to?
- 16:05Do you want to explain that that moment where both of them?
- 16:08Why do I have to? You're the one who picked this
- 16:10out of it. But I don't want to.
- 16:15Because it's creepy if a man does.
- 16:16It's creepy. It's creepy if a woman does a
- 16:19bit. Might soften the blow in your
- 16:21accent. Oh, it's work for Prince Andrew.
- 16:29Well, until that's been fucked out and that's us, We're never
- 16:36getting knighted now. It's a good thing you're already
- 16:38a. Lord True LED.
- 16:40Actually it's up N 1. Oh, medieval sounding just like
- 16:49you're plumbing, Yeah. That wasn't I'm really dragging.
- 16:55This out because I don't really, because it made me really
- 16:58uncomfortable and I message you being like what the fuck?
- 17:02So you see him so we talk about it.
- 17:04So the whole of the first 3 episodes, and I mean, all of the
- 17:07first 3 episodes are dedicated to him becoming a man.
- 17:10Yeah, yeah. And he's the only human in this,
- 17:13like, place. And he has one woman who's
- 17:17raising him and he has his first wet dream and it's a wet dream
- 17:22about his mummy. And he even, I think says, Oh my
- 17:28God, my first wet dream about my mummy.
- 17:30And it's like, and I was like Dada and you see him like
- 17:33washing his bedclothes and stuff.
- 17:35And I was like that. No.
- 17:38Yeah, it's just a bit. It just felt a bit this is a 12
- 17:42year old kid. Like, I get that that's I get
- 17:45that that's natural and all of that stuff, but do we need to
- 17:48make it into entertainment? Like, and also it added, and
- 17:51this is where this is what this is the thing about some anime.
- 17:55And this is where, like we talk about like, why is it OK for
- 18:00Berserk and it's not OK for other things.
- 18:02And it's because in Berserk, it's integral to the plot.
- 18:05The the story is lesser if you take away those moments of like
- 18:09sexuality and sexual threat in this.
- 18:13It added nothing. We didn't need to sit like it.
- 18:16We really didn't need to see it. Yeah, Like, yeah, we didn't need
- 18:20to see a child have his first wet dream.
- 18:24Especially because like it is meant to symbolize him turn I
- 18:29think so anyway, him turning into a man or becoming like that
- 18:33age where he can start like learning for himself.
- 18:37He's on the. Cusp.
- 18:39Yeah, but why can't that the half like a like a not a
- 18:44graduation like a like a final Test at the end of episode 3?
- 18:49Why couldn't I just do that instead of having Kumi Kumi bed
- 18:53sheets? Well, that's what and but they
- 18:55also talk about it in lots of other ways.
- 18:58Like they say, Oh, you one day you're going to become a man
- 19:01like 400 times. Like we didn't need to see the
- 19:05didn't need to see the coming bed sheets.
- 19:07And I really wish you hadn't used the word coming.
- 19:10I'm not and I swear I'm not a prude, but this, you know, there
- 19:14has to be some limits to to our relationship, Chris.
- 19:20We've passed it. It happened.
- 19:23What are you going to do? So you you were saying it was
- 19:28giving you like D&D vibes with what did you think of the
- 19:34setting? Because the under you see the
- 19:36underground city, you see a little bit above ground and
- 19:40where they live in the castle place.
- 19:43I think it has. I think it has potential, but
- 19:46again, the the energy and I really don't want it.
- 19:49Like, I didn't actually hate this, right?
- 19:51And I actually even said if I had been in a mood for fantasy,
- 19:54I might have watched more of it. Like it is like the animations
- 19:57great, the settings really interesting.
- 19:59And I think the world is interesting.
- 20:01This idea of God's directly influencing mortal beings.
- 20:06Yeah, I is, is kind of cool. I kind of like that.
- 20:11And. So I do think the settings good,
- 20:14but it also felt a bit like, you know, when you're playing DND
- 20:17and you're all and we're all like, oh, we should record this.
- 20:21Like we're so interesting, but actually you, you forget that
- 20:25you are also recording like the moments where you're working out
- 20:28the maths and all of that stuff. And it felt like it just could
- 20:32have done. We're just tightening up in the
- 20:35story montage. Yeah, just, you know, we could
- 20:41have just tightened up a bit of the bit of the training, a bit
- 20:43of the like, seeing him grow up. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:49But from what you've seen, do you have a favorite character?
- 20:56Yeah, giant skeleton warrior blood.
- 20:58Blood. Yeah, I agree.
- 21:02Yeah, he's obviously the best. Also, both of us have like been
- 21:07plagued by the fact that he feels so familiar and we cannot
- 21:10work out what it is like. I.
- 21:15Yeah, I've seen him or some kind of anime character of a similar
- 21:20build. Might not be a skeleton in it's
- 21:24just on the tip, me, tongue and I.
- 21:26Can't part of me wonders is it like a One Piece or a Naruto
- 21:29character? That's the energy.
- 21:32It's definitely a Shonen Jump energy that I get from it, and
- 21:35I'm trying so hard. But yeah, it's been plaguing us.
- 21:41And but like, I went through his entire IMDb catalog just in case
- 21:46it was actually him. And another thing, because I was
- 21:48like, is there something like who is?
- 21:52Who is this character reminding me of?
- 21:55Yeah, it's, it's annoying. It's like, you know, when you
- 21:57don't know a celebrity's name and help you Google someone's
- 22:00face? But yeah I agree with you I love
- 22:08blood because I don't know why because I think he was the one
- 22:11with the most personality in this even out the main character
- 22:16Will, who was just a child. I know he's grown up but he's a
- 22:19bit, he's a bit blonde to be honest.
- 22:21In the first 3 episodes at least.
- 22:23Augustus the grumpy old wizard ghost, he was just a grumpy old
- 22:26man. Mary the mummy was just a mother
- 22:33figure. There was nothing like there
- 22:36wasn't any training with her or anything.
- 22:38It was she was just there. I know she, yeah, did stuff.
- 22:42But she's also a bit like it's I think it's ironic that they
- 22:44called her Mary because she's a bear Mary Suey.
- 22:47Like she's just like so noble and self sacrificing and shit.
- 22:52And whereas blood and the same with Augustus, like Augustus is
- 22:55very like severe classic wizard. Yeah, whereas blood is wild
- 23:01card. Yeah, wild card.
- 23:05Barbarian, of course, is going to be more interesting.
- 23:08Yeah, yeah, I get that. I get that.
- 23:11And episode 3 introduced the big buddy.
- 23:17I think you might be the big buddy or the because we've
- 23:21looked at what what's, what are they called again?
- 23:23Stagnate. She's stagnate.
- 23:25So that's a thing. It's male looks, male presenting
- 23:29in the anime, and I don't know if there's a difference between
- 23:31the manga and the anime or he or changes form or something like
- 23:37that. But anyway, they are a God, a
- 23:41God of stagnation. So they are the God of death,
- 23:45death. And what did you think of that
- 23:49as a big bad? I'm thinking because you've
- 23:51compared this to D&D, would you ever have a similar kind of big
- 23:57bad in your campaign? IA 100% would make a God the bad
- 24:02guy. I would never choose death.
- 24:04It's too obvious. Like so I can remember like for
- 24:08a while had a God who was a bad guy who was the God of storms
- 24:11Talos. Like like he's a chaotic evil
- 24:15God. One of the like the D&D pantheon
- 24:19have. I forget what they're called
- 24:21now, but they're like kind of gods of natural disasters.
- 24:24And it's like Talos humbly, the bitch queen is another one of
- 24:28them. And then there's a third one and
- 24:32they all kind of like wreak havoc through like nature.
- 24:36And, and I think so like, like gods are great because as
- 24:41protagonists, because they're so far above you, it feels like an
- 24:47impossible ask, but they have laws that they have to abide by.
- 24:51So there are ways that you can kind of load your party up ready
- 24:55to fight a God. And it's, and that's a cool
- 24:59thing to do, right, is to go fight a God.
- 25:01I do think fighting a God of death feels predictable and also
- 25:06like what? Like why not put death on the
- 25:08party side? So like if if it were me
- 25:12planning a campaign, I would make the God of death the person
- 25:16who is supporting them and trying to help them.
- 25:18Yeah, I get that. Yeah.
- 25:20Because I think death's an equalizer.
- 25:24It's, it's, it's not good or evil.
- 25:27It's a but not it's, it's benign in a way, because it's just a
- 25:32force that comes for everyone. It's the most natural thing in
- 25:35the world is to die. We start doing it from the
- 25:38moment we're born. I think I kind of did a good job
- 25:42because he didn't necessarily seem that evil.
- 25:45He was just matter of fact. He was truthful in what he was
- 25:48saying and even Will even said that.
- 25:51I don't think he's lying when he says all this stuff.
- 25:54I just think he's kind of just matter of factly, which I think
- 25:58they got nailed down good. So I'll give it Well, that's
- 26:01due. But Speaking of gods, if you
- 26:06could create a God body or a big bad or a villain, what would you
- 26:14choose? Because me personally, I would
- 26:17choose the God of that feeling you get when you go prepare for
- 26:21something with a card and it declines.
- 26:26Oh love that. That is like the God of
- 26:32misfortune and kind of energy. No, it's not even.
- 26:36It's not even that because it's like I've just been paid.
- 26:38What's happening? Yeah.
- 26:40The God of disfortune. Yeah, I love that idea.
- 26:47I think I would choose a God of. So I would have a God of, like,
- 26:52ill feeling. And it would be, you know, the
- 26:55feeling where you twat your elbow, but in a way that goes
- 26:58right down into the nerves and it like travels through your
- 27:02body. And for a moment you're like,
- 27:03this isn't a, this isn't a major injury.
- 27:06You know, it's not a major injury.
- 27:07You know, you're going to be fine in a couple of seconds.
- 27:10But for that horrible moment, you think I'm going to be sick.
- 27:15I would, I'd have a God of, of ill feeling.
- 27:18And that would be the feeling that you get when you're in the
- 27:20presence of this God. Do you know when you hurt
- 27:23yourself like that? What's your initial reaction to
- 27:25it? Because I I need to hit
- 27:27something. To you it's always like
- 27:33cheerful, happy cheerful 1, isn't it?
- 27:35Yeah, I'm like. You know, my normal reaction is
- 27:42probably to make like, so there are certain noises that I make.
- 27:45There's one that's like when I fall over, I'm scared, which is
- 27:48like I can't do it. It has to come organically.
- 27:51But it is, it's pantomime Dame for sure.
- 27:56And I think that the noise that I normally make is and then I'll
- 28:02be like, and then I'll be fine. And then usually I laugh
- 28:07because, you know, hurting yourself is kind of funny when
- 28:10you're being super clumsy. Did you do that hurt laugh where
- 28:13you like? Please no one asked me if I'm OK
- 28:17because that will make it worse. Don't bring attention to it, it
- 28:22hurts more. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:24Just everyone act like it's normal and tell me how brave I
- 28:27am. Yeah.
- 28:32I proper, I proper stacked it. Did I tell you I stacked it?
- 28:35I like, split my lip open and everything, like cut it from the
- 28:39inside, like slammed into the court.
- 28:41Like, you know, oh, you know, on the pavement where you've got
- 28:44like the lip of the pavement, the curb.
- 28:47That's the word thank you. So I like stacked it like this
- 28:52part of my face straight into the corner of the curb because I
- 28:56was on my phone in the dark crossing the road.
- 28:59So like, I basically, like, dazzled myself with my phone
- 29:02screen and was being a twat, crapped it.
- 29:08And I like, rolled onto my back on the edge of the pavement.
- 29:12And for I had a moment where I was like, oh, I think I've
- 29:15knocked my teeth out. And then some young man who had
- 29:18been smoking in his doorway was like, oh, my God, are you OK,
- 29:21ma'am? And I was like, please go away.
- 29:25Like, I just lie here. He caught, he mammed me.
- 29:28And I was like, I'm an old woman who's fallen.
- 29:31Leave me be. Don't.
- 29:35Add insult to injury. No, I think that's worse than
- 29:43fall at all. It did and it was often so I
- 29:47just like tried to like get up and walk off.
- 29:50I was in a lot of pain. I like really crapped my knees
- 29:53up as well. I had proper scabs for the first
- 29:55time in years. Kids get scabs all the time.
- 29:58I haven't had I hadn't didn't have a good scab to pick for
- 30:00ages and I loved it. Take a fidget toy in your skin.
- 30:09But I like as I walked off, I was like just started like
- 30:12crying like a pathetic. So that's what happens when I
- 30:15when I injure myself is I usually am like, oh, an idiot.
- 30:20So I, I normally injure myself, so I'm kind of used to it and
- 30:25yeah, like at work. You've developed a violent
- 30:28coping mechanism. Yeah, I just, I just lash out at
- 30:31the world. There was an there's one time I
- 30:34didn't though, and I was, I think it was gears going.
- 30:38I was like 1213 or something and I'd stood on a snow shovel
- 30:42because I was clearing me Grandma's like path and stuff.
- 30:45Being the nice grandson I was. Are you?
- 30:47Are you a cartoon Eric Tory, you Sideshow Bob?
- 30:50What's going on? It did right and it knocked half
- 30:56of my tooth out and it was like an angle like that.
- 30:59It's because that's fake. That's nice.
- 31:01Darker than the other ones and. Well, they didn't colour match
- 31:05it. That's a bit unfair.
- 31:07Probably use the smoke and stains it but Oh well.
- 31:13There was a but because it was snowing in my head I thought,
- 31:17well you can reattach your finger when it comes off so you
- 31:20could probably do that with a tooth for some glue.
- 31:23And no, obviously 12 or 13, but then.
- 31:29You can reattach teeth and put them back in.
- 31:31If you knock them out and they've got the root intact, you
- 31:34can put them back in exactly like a finger, but you have to
- 31:38get to an emergency dentist very quickly for it to happen.
- 31:41And you they definitely don't use light super.
- 31:43Glue. Well, try looking for a for a
- 31:46tooth in a pile of snow. It's not fun.
- 31:50Actually, I couldn't find it. I did go to the emergency
- 31:53dentist and basically it was weird.
- 31:57The the put some the melted some rubber, put that on the inside
- 32:01and then capped it off with some putty in the that'll be fine.
- 32:04Came off a week later. But I used to like toffee at the
- 32:07time. So do you know the big bars of
- 32:10toffee that are like proper taught that Yeah, yeah.
- 32:14Hammers that you can take with. They're like a like a solid
- 32:17block of where this original. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:20But I just bite them and the tooth came off on when I bit
- 32:24into it. But yeah.
- 32:25It was only a matter of time, but do you know I ever remember?
- 32:29Sorry, we've come completely off far away Paladins, but do you
- 32:32like cinder toffee? You'd I never see a cinder
- 32:35toffee anywhere, and it used to be a thing on Bonfire Night when
- 32:39I was a kid. You'd get like a block of really
- 32:41dark, sticky cinder toffee. They'd shove that in your mouth
- 32:46while watching fireworks. And you need to go, you need to
- 32:49go to more old people's shops and.
- 32:52Classic. Well, I am an old lady who's
- 32:55just fallen over so. Not Edinburgh Wool and Mill,
- 32:59That's what I call it, Yorkshire trading.
- 33:02OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:04They have like I'm. Sure, go and pick up.
- 33:07Pick up some cinder toffee and some What's that?
- 33:10What Kendall mint cake? Kendall milk it, nor that.
- 33:15The Strawberry. Strawberry Capri things the
- 33:18little hob boiled sweets of strawberry.
- 33:20That's the kind of. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:22Chubby Weathers Originals and we had assorted pink bonbons, that
- 33:27kind of stuff, but they're in Kuya bags with no Brandon on.
- 33:31You like who made this? I don't know.
- 33:32It was cheap. I'll put it in a yeah like
- 33:36crystal ball. Edith in her kitchen.
- 33:39Yeah, with her 12 cats. Don't worry about the fluff in
- 33:44it. That's fine, that's fine that
- 33:48those kids for you to corpse one day, but so far away, Paladin.
- 33:53Sorry if you got off track there.
- 33:56Way off track. Or you do.
- 33:58So I've said that I think this might be a slow burner and is
- 34:03there anything you would want to happen besides less wet dreams?
- 34:11I'd like it to be faster paced. I'd like there to be some
- 34:16genuine threat by episode 2. I think it's OK to have like.
- 34:21So here's the thing, there's a lot of world setup and world
- 34:24building that happens in the first episode.
- 34:26The first 3 episodes. I'm OK with that.
- 34:29I think a fantasy world needs that.
- 34:31I think they spoon feed. Look at Lord of the Rings.
- 34:34I think they spoon feed it a bit too much in this because there
- 34:37is some of the world building they could have done later by
- 34:41just showing you what's going on.
- 34:43Do you know what I mean? Like it was a bit like tell the
- 34:47show and it should be the other way around.
- 34:50So I like if they'd kind of shortened some of that
- 34:53exposition and put some action in much sooner, I probably would
- 34:58be like singing this show's praises because the animations
- 35:02great. The the actual setting of the
- 35:06world's pretty good. It's like classic fantasy.
- 35:09I haven't got really got any complaints about it.
- 35:11So yeah, I. Do kind of want to see what's in
- 35:14the rest of the world where the other humans are.
- 35:18I'm kind of interested in what they're not telling us more than
- 35:22what they are telling us. But yeah, I kind of agree with
- 35:26that. Would you, would you recommend
- 35:29this to someone? No, no, no.
- 35:34Yeah, but. And I'm not angry at you for
- 35:40recommending it, I think it was an interesting watch it and it
- 35:43wasn't unpleasant. It's mid.
- 35:46It's a mid anime I think. I feel exactly the same way.
- 35:53I don't think it's, I don't think it's bad, but I don't
- 35:56think it's good. I probably won't go back.
- 36:01I try. I did watch episode 4, as I was
- 36:03telling you, and I was just like, done.
- 36:06I'm about. I'm going to go back to watching
- 36:07One Piece. Yeah.
- 36:12Yeah, no, I don't. But I afterwards I was like, you
- 36:15know, like tomorrow, because I've got a Friday night off.
- 36:18I'm going to finish watching Cyberpunk.
- 36:20I'm not going back to this. So you know, it's like, but it
- 36:24was it was interesting. And I think if I was in the
- 36:26right mood, this would be good background noise anime.
- 36:29Like if I was like for if I was pottering around and I just
- 36:32wanted some anime in the background while I did chores, I
- 36:36this this would be 1 to pick. Yeah, but because it was so mid,
- 36:43I'm taking away your right to choose.
- 36:45Next week. We're not going to compete, but
- 36:49also because it's LGBTQIA Plus History Month.
- 36:55Yeah. So basically Alphabet Mafia,
- 37:00which is what I like to call the LGBTQIA plus community, is.
- 37:10And if we're talking about history, there is only one anime
- 37:14that I can make you watch. No more classic, and I would
- 37:25argue far more violent. It's not.
- 37:33But like a vaporwave dream, We're going to watch Sailor
- 37:37Moon. And what I've asked you to watch
- 37:39is just one episode of any Sailor Moon.
- 37:43I don't mind like if you want to watch one of the new versions or
- 37:46if you want to watch classic Sailor Moon, that's grand.
- 37:49If you want to watch 3 episodes, that'd be great because I
- 37:51probably will go on a like a little Sailor Moon fantasy.
- 37:58Although we are filming this on Sunday, so you know, there's
- 38:02only so much time. But I've also found on YouTube
- 38:07some people who have done so, some people think, but Phoebe,
- 38:12why is Sailor me? Why are you doing Sailor Moon?
- 38:14Sailor Moon is not a lesbian. She's in love with Tuxedo Mask.
- 38:17She is. But canonically, I think it's
- 38:20one of the gayest animes ever to grace our screens because there
- 38:25are lesbians everywhere in it. So that's what we're watching.
- 38:28And I'm going to show you the case for why Sailor Moon should
- 38:32be reclassified from a shojo manga like manga anime to a
- 38:38queer 1. Well, I for one, I've, I've
- 38:42never really seen Sailor Moon because it didn't interest me
- 38:45when I was a kid because I like put them on and Dragon Ball Z
- 38:49and whatever. So I think that this is the
- 38:52straightest anime in the world. So you need to change my mind.
- 38:57Yeah, that's what we're doing. So it's basically I think what
- 39:00next week's episode will be a competition in itself, And if at
- 39:05the end I have convinced you that Sailor Moon is a queer
- 39:10anime, then I think I get to pick the week after.
- 39:14If you walk away from it and think, actually no, I think it's
- 39:17too much of A reach, you're wrong, then you get to pick.
- 39:21So what? What's gay about kissing
- 39:23cousins? Well, that's part of the story
- 39:27that I'm going to tell you, and we'll do it in next week's
- 39:31episode. But also, it's in like from the
- 39:35moment I watch it, I will be going around the flat, going
- 39:38fighting Evil Bat Moonlight and doing all of the transformation
- 39:44poses. It's the, it's the classic
- 39:47magical girl anime. We've never watched one.
- 39:49I've always been too afraid to put you through it because I
- 39:52don't think it is. I do not think you are their
- 39:54target audience. I'm I'm open to it and I don't
- 39:57think I have ever watched one. Yeah.
- 40:00So this will be a first. It will.
- 40:06So, yeah. So that's what we're doing next
- 40:08week. Look forward to it.
- 40:09Chris becomes a magical girl. Is that what they do?
- 40:14The ultimate transformation. So me so me blue tack play
- 40:18fidget thing. But yeah, thanks for watching 3
- 40:25episodes of Faraway Paladin. I know it wasn't great, but it
- 40:28wasn't bad. It wasn't the worst.
- 40:31Yeah, but till next week, yeah. Sailor Moon gay or not gay?
- 40:42Oh, we're so getting cancelled.
