- 0:00Good morning market watchers !
- 0:02It is exactly 5 am on Tuesday , February 3rd , 2026 , here on the Pacific coast , and you are listening to Spy Trader .
- 0:11I am your host , Sunny Sideup , and we have a lot to cover as the sun starts to peek over the horizon .
- 0:17The S&P 500 , or the SPY as we like to call it , is currently teasing us at a very significant milestone .
- 0:26It is sitting right at 6,998 points , just two points shy of that massive 7,000point mark .
- 0:33While we have seen a fantastic 15.8 percent gain over the last year , the mood in the market has shifted from pure excitement to a very serious ' show me the money' attitude regarding AI .
- 0:45Let's dive into the key news .
- 0:47In the tech sector , Microsoft recently had a rough day , seeing its steepest singleday drop in 13 years at about 10 percent .
- 0:56Investors were spooked because Azure cloud growth hit 38 percent , which missed the 40 percent gold standard they were looking for .
- 1:04This highlights a growing concern that the costs to maintain AI are starting to pressure margins .
- 1:11Meanwhile , the healthcare sector is a bit of a mixed bag .
- 1:15Companies like Novo Nordisk are soaring after the approval of their oral Wegovy pill and a new distribution deal with Amazon .
- 1:23However , health insurers like UnitedHealth and Humana have seen massive selloffs of up to 26 percent recently due to disappointing 2027 government reimbursement rates .
- 1:34On the macro side , the Federal Reserve held rates steady last week at 3.50 to 3.75 percent .
- 1:41They are being cautious because inflation is still a bit stubborn .
- 1:46We are all waiting for the January jobs report this Friday , especially since December only saw 50,000 jobs .
- 1:54To add some flavor to the mix , Kevin Warsh has been nominated to lead the Fed starting in May , and the markets are reacting to his more hawkish reputation .
- 2:04So , what is the game plan for your portfolio ?
- 2:07Given how selective the market is being , I recommend a balanced barbell strategy .
- 2:12First , for core stability , look at a broad index fund like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF , ticker VOO .
- 2:21Since we are at such a high valuation , VOO gives you essential exposure to the broader recovery in energy and financials rather than just chasing tech .
- 2:30Second , for targeted growth , I like the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , ticker XLV .
- 2:37While the insurers are dragging it down right now , the weightloss drug trend with companies like Novo Nordisk is a longterm winner .
- 2:44Use the current dip in XLV as a buying opportunity .
- 2:48Third , let's talk bonds .
- 2:51The iShares 20 Year Treasury Bond ETF , ticker TLT , is looking attractive .
- 2:57With rates likely at a peak and the labor market cooling off , TLT offers a great hedge against a potential slowdown later this year .
- 3:05Finally , for your tech allocation , be very selective within the Invesco QQQ Trust .
- 3:11Instead of holding the whole basket , focus on companies that are actually proving they can monetize AI right now , like Palantir , which recently beat expectations across the board .
- 3:23Stay smart , stay diversified , and let’s see if we can finally cross that 7,000 line today !
- 3:30I am Sunny Sideup , and this has been Spy Trader .
- 3:33Happy trading !
