- 0:00It is the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show live for Bear Smoke House Barbecue and Hartford
- 0:03will do another one in a couple of weeks. On the twenty second.
- 0:07Anim will host that one because I will be in route to Milwaukee. Then
- 0:10Adam will join me hopefully as long as the weather's good for the Yukon Women's
- 0:13game this weekend Maine Friday and Saturday, our first game of the second semester
- 0:19on the radio Friday night Ice we like to call it. It'll be Yukon
- 0:22and seventh rank Maine six forty five on the air for that one for seven
- 0:26o'clock face off and then Saturday afternoon at three o'clock for Game Club on Saturday.
- 0:31And they're trying to pack the place, so get your tickets Yukon tickets
- 0:35dot com. I would imagine the Xcel Center box office also for availability for
- 0:39tickets. Brian Williams is back in the studio taking care of us tonight.
- 0:42I think Zach Linfield might be at the championship game tonight. Michigan, Michigan
- 0:46alum. Yeah, yeah, Michigan alum. And he took his dad to
- 0:48the Rose Bowl. You like Michigan to night correct, I do. Yeah,
- 0:51I'm rooting for Michigan tonight. Okay, yeah, Adam's going for what
- 0:54Yeah, give me Washington. We're taking the Huskies, the West Coast Husky
- 0:57here you go. Okay, all right, there's only one Huskies. Well
- 1:00I set the West Well, the West Coast Huskies. Hey, you know,
- 1:04when you come play as Northeastern, you can't say Huskies. You know
- 1:10that's kind of hard. Can You can? But you don't know which one
- 1:12you're referring to? And when I do, I immediately specify which team.
- 1:18Okay, never easy. Joey Muldowdey, who will have on later, got
- 1:23his first goal as a Husky. But his line since the BC series has
- 1:27been playing really well, haven't they. They've been playing great, Yeah,
- 1:30they really have. They've been asked to do a lot of different things,
- 1:37and they bring a lot of energy and they get in on the fore check
- 1:41and they're creating a lot of scoring chances for us and playing great defense.
- 1:46So there they are a line I think that you know, when people probably
- 1:51look at our line sheet, you know, they're always looking for where's Matt
- 1:53Wood or where's samu or where's Chase Bradley And and that line kind of flies
- 1:59under the radar, but they've been really really good for us lately. It
- 2:01makes a good four check. I'm Mike, Well, it's just skating and
- 2:06a great stick you know, stick pressure being stick on puck, So trying
- 2:10to deflect the pass, you gotta skate, you like, all three guys
- 2:15got to skate. So if two of them are skating and one's not,
- 2:19you know, teams will be able to make two passes and beat you.
- 2:22But when all three guys, it's hard to make three passes. Like if
- 2:24guys are really on top of you right away, so and then they do
- 2:29an excellent job of that. For Joey Muldowney, nineteen year old I'll be
- 2:34turning twenty over the summer. When you saw him and when he first got
- 2:38on your radar, what was the thing that made you go, Okay,
- 2:42I'm going to keep my eye on this guy. Well, he's always been
- 2:45a goal scorer, you know, he's been a kid that's been able to
- 2:47uh. When he was playing up in Buffalo, he scored a lot of
- 2:52goals. And when he got drafted by San Jose that was the primary reason
- 2:57because of his play up there. And then he went out to the USHL
- 3:00and that's a tougher league, but he still scored goals out there. And
- 3:04again, he skates, he gets on people. He's a lot stronger.
- 3:07I mean, he doesn't look like he's physically imposing at all, you know
- 3:10when you see him, but he's very very strong on his skates and he's
- 3:15got you know, good core strength balance. So he's a kid that I
- 3:22think he's just only going to get better and better. We've hit the start
- 3:24of the second half of the season or weekend of the second half. But
- 3:28is there a player or two that you really have been impressed by taking big
- 3:30steps maybe from the start of the season. Yeah, well, certainly that
- 3:37whole line. You know, Ryan, Taddle and Fraze. I'm trying to
- 3:44think, you know, Tabor Heaslip I thought had a really good weekend this
- 3:46past I thought he played well against Harvard and he played well up at UMass.
- 3:51So he's a kid that's coming and we're going to need him. And
- 3:53Percival's playing outstanding hockey right now. Yeah me sure is. Yeah, And
- 4:00talking to him today, he really raved about what mode did I mean?
- 4:03Obviously Jay's are Jake's person, Uh, an Avon kid, so he's close
- 4:08to campus and he spent a lot of time on campus. It sounds like
- 4:11working with Mo Butler getting ready for the season. Yeah. She does an
- 4:14excellent job with our team. And the guys that stay for the summer,
- 4:17they're always they're always in great shape. So but he's just so committed.
- 4:23Uh, you know, he had a perfect four row GPA as well.
- 4:27We had two players, Oliver Flynn and Jake Percival had perfect four rows first
- 4:30semester. So he's doing it in the classroom, he's doing it on the
- 4:34ice, and those are the type of guys we want. He's just you
- 4:38know, we have a sign that says how you do anything, so how
- 4:40you do everything? And he epitomizes that tomorrow. Most of your hockey players
- 4:44financial guys. I know, there's a lot of them, and they go
- 4:47to was it one of the goalies? Was it Matt pisqually who Yeah,
- 4:51yeah, he is for sure. In the I think we're probably split,
- 4:56you know, in the business school and then liberal arts and calm. Okay,
- 5:00anyone with the particularly unique I mean like a bio science type track,
- 5:05right, No, I don't think so practices or anything or that has to
- 5:12No, we've had some engineers in the past, but that's about the extend.
- 5:16But I think we've only had two kids that went down that route.
- 5:20You mentioned Oliver Plynn. He's somebody we haven't really asked you a whole lot
- 5:25about. So he's a full word. He's a freshman from Connecticut, homegrown
- 5:29kid, but doesn't have a point yet this season in his fourteen games.
- 5:32So what's the thing that's going to let him take that next step and start
- 5:36contributing in that way? Yeah, it's just, you know, we're pretty
- 5:40deep up front, and he's contributed. He always comes ready to you know,
- 5:46he shows up every day. His practice habits are outstanding, he's got
- 5:49good size, he's a smart hockey player. It's just right now, we're
- 5:54pretty deep up there, and he's going to help us, and he may
- 5:59very well have to step in and help us quite a bit this year.
- 6:02We'll see. We got a long way to go, but I'm pretty confident
- 6:06down the road he's going to be a really solid player for us. How
- 6:10soon we're gonna see Jake Valou play for the first time this year, Well,
- 6:15he practiced full up for the first time last Thursday and he practiced today,
- 6:21so we'll see. We'll see how this week goes, but it's certainly
- 6:26getting a lot closer than it was. He played thirty three games last year,
- 6:29so this was someone who would theoretically have plugged in and been a piece
- 6:32every single night for Yeah, and he's a very disciplined, smart hockey player.
- 6:39He's a guy that you can trust, you know what you're going to
- 6:41get every shift from him when he's on the ice. When we come back
- 6:45on the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show, we'll ask about a few of the guys
- 6:47that you normally don't hear about on the Yukon roster, and we'll also ask
- 6:53him about the goaltending of Ethan Hyder, that's been a big plus for the
- 6:57Huskies trying to make a surge here in the second half of the season.
