Transcript
- 0:13Speaker 1: Move over, basketball. Did you see that, Toddfather? Move over, Bucs.
- 0:18Speaker 1: They're going to have their home opener at 3 o'clock.
- 0:19Speaker 2: No, I didn't, but yes, that makes sense.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, 3 o'clock instead of 7 o'clock to celebrate Milwaukee
- 0:27Speaker 1: hosting game one. Kratz ready to pop a bottle that's
- 0:31Speaker 1: probably not going to taste good. That bottle's pretty old.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We'll talk about a very cool bottle that Kratz is
- 0:35Speaker 1: involved with coming up in a moment, but can we
- 0:37Speaker 1: also show the tweet from Sarah Langs about post season
- 0:41Speaker 1: or make that world series appearances and the amount of
- 0:45Speaker 1: years between that for the Cubs, which was 70 from
- 0:49Speaker 1: 1946 to 2015, the white socks went from 1960 to
- 0:53Speaker 1: 2004 without being in a world series. And then third
- 0:58Speaker 1: on this list, Todd father is Milwaukee 1983 after their
- 1:03Speaker 1: 82 appearance all the way up until last year, that's
- 1:05Speaker 1: 43 years. That's a lot of decades.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah that's it's a lot it's and you got to
- 1:12Speaker 3: be a true fan of all those teams to really
- 1:16Speaker 3: understand going through some some hard times so um yes
- 1:22Speaker 3: that's all incredible but now you're getting the fruits of
- 1:25Speaker 3: the labor here you got those old timers that have
- 1:27Speaker 3: been waiting since they were you know young maybe young
- 1:32Speaker 3: at what 10 years old you had 43 of that
- 1:34Speaker 3: now they're in their 50s that's uh It's truly remarkable.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So if you're a Milwaukee fan, even if you don't
- 1:41Speaker 3: live in Milwaukee and you're a fan, you're ready to
- 1:43Speaker 3: go here, and you're going to have that TV on.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So a big congratulations to them. They figured out a
- 1:49Speaker 3: way to get through a gauntlet, and they did it
- 1:52Speaker 3: with a sweep.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Man, how sweep it is, as they say. Yeah, impressive.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I want to get Kratz's thoughts, but we'll do it
- 1:59Speaker 1: with our first segment here. So let's hit it. All
- 2:09Speaker 1: smiles presented by Lorraine Co.
- 2:10Speaker 2: The pouches. Go get them.
- 2:12Speaker 1: They're right here. But also I want to talk about,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I know you have one in right now, and you're Mr.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Brand endorser at the moment since the Milwaukee Brewers also
- 2:22Speaker 1: had a celebratory Eric Kratz bottle to pop. And I'm
- 2:26Speaker 1: not joking. Kratz, do you want to explain more of this?
- 2:30Speaker 4: They, as the Brewers advanced to the World Series, they
- 2:35Speaker 4: put a bottle in With everybody's name, they put the
- 2:38Speaker 4: label over top of it, and we'll show it here
- 2:40Speaker 4: in a second. Everybody's name that had ever played for
- 2:44Speaker 4: the Brewers in the postseason. This was sent to me
- 2:50Speaker 4: last night. I'm trying to think what time it was.
- 2:53Speaker 4: It was late, so I could look at my text,
- 2:55Speaker 4: but it's just... It says on the bottom, celebrating Wisconsin.
- 2:59Speaker 4: And it says the date that I played in the postseason. Like,
- 3:04Speaker 4: no way... did I do anything for this team to win?
- 3:08Speaker 4: But when you're included in that kind of stuff, you
- 3:12Speaker 4: start looking back and you start thinking about, in 2018,
- 3:16Speaker 4: what little thing did you do positively that affected this team?
- 3:22Speaker 4: Is it an interaction? Who cares if you hit a
- 3:26Speaker 4: homer in a game in July? Nobody cares about that.
- 3:30Speaker 4: What I think the Brewers did really well, and it
- 3:32Speaker 4: culminates to this point where they're in the World Series,
- 3:35Speaker 4: is everybody matters and everybody has a piece in the
- 3:42Speaker 4: next step for them. The players obviously have to play,
- 3:46Speaker 4: but everybody matters and everybody has a piece. And it
- 3:50Speaker 4: was such a cool representation of that to have a
- 3:54Speaker 4: bottle with my name on, to have a bottle with.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Domingo Santana's name on it, a bottle with Lorenzo Cain's
- 4:02Speaker 4: name on it, a bottle with Chase Anderson's name on it.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Like guys that people might not remember. And then the
- 4:08Speaker 4: superstars like Ryan Braun and Carlos Gomez, Robin Young. It's
- 4:13Speaker 4: so cool.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Get you on the fields a little bit, man.
- 4:17Speaker 3: It's like, oh yeah, they, they remembered me a little bit,
- 4:20Speaker 3: even though they didn't have to, you know what I mean? I'm, I'm,
- 4:23Speaker 3: I'm being serious and funny at the same time. Like
- 4:26Speaker 3: they didn't have to do this at all. And I
- 4:29Speaker 3: think it's a huge gesture getting all those. I mean,
- 4:32Speaker 3: it's gotta be hundreds of bottles too, that they got
- 4:34Speaker 3: to give out, which is pretty cool. It goes to
- 4:36Speaker 3: show you that this Milwaukee brewer team is a close
- 4:40Speaker 3: knit group. It's a close knit organization and they want
- 4:44Speaker 3: to make sure they give back. Cause I'm sure everything
- 4:46Speaker 3: was different from the coaching staff on, um, that, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 3: they're just putting in a little remembrance and, it would
- 4:55Speaker 3: be great to cap it off with a World Series.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I mean, that bottle would be even better sitting somewhere
- 4:59Speaker 3: in your man cave.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I know which it would be.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So good for you, good for the organization. And I
- 5:05Speaker 3: think that's another one you're probably not going to open
- 5:07Speaker 3: up until never.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I hope somebody sprayed it all over somebody's face, down
- 5:13Speaker 4: their back, whatever it was. But it's the little things
- 5:17Speaker 4: that I think get overlooked. And it's not that the
- 5:20Speaker 4: Dodgers didn't do that stuff. We've had Max Muncy on here,
- 5:24Speaker 4: Glass now, Blake's now, like so many different guys on here,
- 5:28Speaker 4: and they talk about that's what they do. And if
- 5:30Speaker 4: your organization's not doing it, if you don't hear about
- 5:32Speaker 4: stuff like this, like to me, you're behind the eight
- 5:37Speaker 4: ball a little bit getting value from little places. Chase
- 5:44Speaker 4: Peterson is like a coach. He's like a bench baseball coach.
- 5:50Speaker 4: I don't even know what his actual role is. But
- 5:52Speaker 4: it's like he connects with players. He connects with the coaches.
- 5:56Speaker 4: He connects with the front office, and he tries to
- 5:58Speaker 4: bring it all together from somebody that was just out
- 6:01Speaker 4: on the field and can relate to the players but
- 6:04Speaker 4: also can relate to Murph and the front office and
- 6:06Speaker 4: all that stuff. There's so many people behind the scenes,
- 6:10Speaker 4: and to do this as a gesture of just remembering
- 6:14Speaker 4: and commemorating.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It, I think it's cool.
- 6:18Speaker 1: By the way, yeah, Jace Peterson, is a consultant for
- 6:21Speaker 1: performance psychology and player development.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Boom.
- 6:25Speaker 1: There you go. And also I want to play to
- 6:27Speaker 1: this point that you said, Kratz, if you're an organization
- 6:31Speaker 1: and you don't appreciate and promote your history, then you're
- 6:35Speaker 1: a fraud. You should absolutely be doing that. Even if
- 6:38Speaker 1: there's not a ton of success. Almost every organization has
- 6:44Speaker 1: some sliver of success. I know that there are some
- 6:46Speaker 1: that don't have a World Series title yet, including Milwaukee,
- 6:48Speaker 1: but Milwaukee talks about 1982, the Brewers organization, all the time.
- 6:52Speaker 1: There are articles out this week that are great about it, right?
- 6:55Speaker 1: You're a player, you enter the org, you know about
- 6:57Speaker 1: 82 pretty quickly. There are some organizations I've heard of
- 7:01Speaker 1: that don't promote their history much and almost want to
- 7:04Speaker 1: wipe it away, and that's garbage. So I appreciate the
- 7:07Speaker 1: way the Brewers do this. It's very cool. And then
- 7:10Speaker 1: let's get into their brand of baseball here. So let's
- 7:12Speaker 1: start with the three true outcomes. This was a little
- 7:15Speaker 1: bit surprising because you look at some of the teams
- 7:17Speaker 1: still involved and you're like, small ball, contact. Well, the
- 7:22Speaker 1: Brewers didn't hit a lot of home runs during the season.
- 7:24Speaker 1: They definitely were able to manufacture runs in a unique way.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But they're hitting dingers right now, Toddfather. And they're three
- 7:29Speaker 1: true outcomes, which about 10 years ago in our game
- 7:32Speaker 1: was a problem because three true outcomes can get boring
- 7:35Speaker 1: after a while. their percentage was the highest by any
- 7:38Speaker 1: team in a best of seven post season series all time.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Plate appearances ending in a home run, a walk or
- 7:45Speaker 1: a strikeout 47%, almost half of their plate appearances were
- 7:49Speaker 1: a three true outcome.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:53Speaker 3: That's a, you don't really see that, uh, in a
- 7:56Speaker 3: best of seven series too. That's it's crazy. Um, You know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: it starts from the top. It starts with Murph, as
- 8:03Speaker 3: everybody says. The guy's an absolute gem of a human
- 8:06Speaker 3: being and a manager. They are old school in the
- 8:10Speaker 3: way they do things. You know, you see it as
- 8:14Speaker 3: it begins. People, you see Murph, he doesn't shake anybody's hand,
- 8:17Speaker 3: so you slap him on the chest and he's like, oh,
- 8:19Speaker 3: that was a good way.
- 8:19Speaker 2: You know, they make stuff up. That's fun. That's fun stuff.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Like, you as a manager can do whatever really you want,
- 8:26Speaker 3: baseball terms, and within your organization– to make it fun or,
- 8:30Speaker 3: you know, to be a little pain in the butt
- 8:32Speaker 3: in the best way possible. And these guys really, really
- 8:35Speaker 3: enjoy playing for this team. And, I mean, listen, home runs, walks,
- 8:39Speaker 3: and strikeouts, 47%. Holy cow. And they were down 4-0
- 8:45Speaker 3: yesterday and came back in true fashion where the base hits, doubles. Pretty,
- 8:51Speaker 3: pretty cool way to win that game and to hold
- 8:54Speaker 3: them after they scored four to put up another goose egg.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Organization from top to bottom is the real deal. We
- 9:00Speaker 3: could be seeing the World Series champ. They got one
- 9:02Speaker 3: step to go. But if this is the way they're
- 9:05Speaker 3: going with some of the names that a lot of
- 9:07Speaker 3: guys never heard of before, I tip my cap to them.
- 9:11Speaker 4: I think sometimes narratives are tired because I think narratives
- 9:15Speaker 4: that broadcasters, narratives that people like us, come into series
- 9:22Speaker 4: with and they're like, well, no, you know, I don't
- 9:25Speaker 4: know how many times I said, well, did they hit
- 9:26Speaker 4: enough home runs? Trade deadline. Do they got to get
- 9:28Speaker 4: somebody that hits home runs? This team showed me, and
- 9:32Speaker 4: I think it should show a lot of players in
- 9:34Speaker 4: the game. I don't care about organizations. Organizations are going
- 9:37Speaker 4: to run things the way they want to, but players,
- 9:41Speaker 4: if you have the essentials as far as how you
- 9:45Speaker 4: go about your approach, The success is going to be there.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I don't know if Todd agrees with me on this
- 9:50Speaker 4: or not, but in the playoffs, you get a superpower.
- 9:55Speaker 4: You get extra power. The ball just jumps off your
- 9:59Speaker 4: bat more. I'm not saying you hit more home runs.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I'm not saying that's why they hit more home runs.
- 10:03Speaker 4: I'm saying you get adrenaline and everything is just heightened
- 10:07Speaker 4: because it's a different level of focus. Throughout the year,
- 10:10Speaker 4: the Brewers hitters made a concerted effort to drive the
- 10:15Speaker 4: ball to right field. Last year, They had less strikeouts
- 10:19Speaker 4: than they did this year. They struck out a little
- 10:20Speaker 4: bit more this year. It was some give and take.
- 10:23Speaker 4: But they're trying to drive that ball to the opposite field.
- 10:26Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden, they're clipping some cutters
- 10:29Speaker 4: out in front, some sliders out in front. They catch
- 10:31Speaker 4: a heater after a long 12-pitch at-bat. They started putting
- 10:36Speaker 4: at-bats together. And sometimes narratives get in the way of
- 10:39Speaker 4: the fact that this is a game played by dudes
- 10:43Speaker 4: that Who wants it more in each individual situation? And
- 10:48Speaker 4: I think the Brewers came out on top. The Dodgers
- 10:51Speaker 4: wanted it bad, but the Brewers came out on top
- 10:54Speaker 4: because they put all that stuff together and they had
- 10:57Speaker 4: a true belief as a team and the ball started rolling.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I want to show a tweet from Kurt Hogue, Brewer
- 11:05Speaker 1: Territory and beat writer. He said, David Hamilton bunted in
- 11:11Speaker 1: his first at-bat today because Pat Murphy told him to.
- 11:14Speaker 1: The reasoning, drop a bunt down and their pitchers won't
- 11:16Speaker 1: respect you the same following at-bats. He would get pitches
- 11:20Speaker 1: to hit. Hamilton followed with an RBI single and a
- 11:23Speaker 1: home run. Todd, do you believe in that?
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yes and no, to a point. Yeah, I mean, listen.
- 11:32Speaker 3: He batted what? He batted what in the order? I'm
- 11:35Speaker 3: just drawing.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Was he last in the order? Am I mistaken? He
- 11:39Speaker 2: was low. He was low.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I'll check it for you.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah. He was last in the order.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So, understandably, your big guns are coming up next, and
- 11:47Speaker 3: they don't want to get to one of their big guns.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Who was that? Insurio, right? He let off. So, sorry,
- 11:54Speaker 2: I was just drawing a blank there.
- 11:56Speaker 3: But, yeah, if you're the nine batter and you're going
- 11:59Speaker 3: to put one down in the beginning, and he did
- 12:02Speaker 3: say it wasn't a great bunt and got thrown out by, what,
- 12:04Speaker 3: a step and a half, okay, next to bat, all right,
- 12:07Speaker 3: we just, you know, let's just get a couple by
- 12:10Speaker 3: him here because, you know, we want to get this
- 12:13Speaker 3: guy out so we can, you know, not get too
- 12:16Speaker 3: cheery of him.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So I do believe in that 100%.
- 12:18Speaker 3: You know, pitchers sometimes get in that mode where they're
- 12:21Speaker 3: really like, all right, let me just try and hit
- 12:23Speaker 3: my spots with these fastballs. And if you miss it
- 12:26Speaker 3: by a morsel, these are professional hitters. I don't care
- 12:29Speaker 3: where you bat in the lineup. They're going to find
- 12:30Speaker 3: a way. And, yes, they did come up big. He's
- 12:32Speaker 3: pushing all the right buttons, Scott.
- 12:34Speaker 2: In there. I mean, right now, every single button that's
- 12:37Speaker 2: been pressed has been green. And green is good.
- 12:40Speaker 3: And, you know, there hasn't been much downfall. The pitching
- 12:44Speaker 3: has been absolutely phenomenal. The hitting has come up clutch
- 12:47Speaker 3: from guys. I mean, Jake Bowers, MVP to me. This
- 12:51Speaker 3: guy has been absolutely insane, you know, coming in. I
- 12:55Speaker 3: think batting 211 and then boom, all of a sudden,
- 12:58Speaker 3: he's missed a playoff. And to do it in L.A.,
- 13:02Speaker 3: they're not afraid and they are bought in. And I
- 13:05Speaker 3: hate saying bought in because it feels like somebody's making
- 13:08Speaker 3: you do something that you don't want to do, but
- 13:11Speaker 3: they've come together and have leaned on Murph and said,
- 13:16Speaker 3: whatever it is you want, we're going to go through
- 13:19Speaker 3: it because we're sick of being the odd man out
- 13:22Speaker 3: here and not finishing what we started. And it didn't
- 13:24Speaker 3: matter who they played. They were going to win these
- 13:27Speaker 3: games and down four or not. And I said it
- 13:29Speaker 3: to my boy, I said, I said, it doesn't seem
- 13:31Speaker 3: like 4-9. We were out at a restaurant getting something
- 13:34Speaker 3: to eat. Boom, the 2-RBI double. I said, they just
- 13:37Speaker 3: put themselves back in this game. And it was truly
- 13:41Speaker 3: a baseball game. If you love baseball, it was truly
- 13:44Speaker 3: from top to bottom, a game of baseball that you
- 13:48Speaker 3: could watch and say, man, that was remarkable. And how
- 13:51Speaker 3: they came back and nobody looked down and how they
- 13:53Speaker 3: did it. Here you go, another tip of the cap.
- 13:57Speaker 4: I got one last one. I watched the postgame. with
- 14:00Speaker 4: Jake Bowers talking. And he talked about, because I'm big
- 14:04Speaker 4: into mindset, I really feel like it's a razor thin
- 14:07Speaker 4: edge from talent, the worst talent, to the best talent,
- 14:11Speaker 4: or to the top of the middle class talent in
- 14:15Speaker 4: the big leagues. And then there's the superstars. Like I
- 14:17Speaker 4: would never be better than the superstars, but it's that
- 14:19Speaker 4: middle of the road talent. And it's mindset. Jake Bowers
- 14:24Speaker 4: talked about how after the Dodgers beat swept them last year,
- 14:30Speaker 4: swept them. He said it looked like their high-five line
- 14:33Speaker 4: was like they'd won a spring training game on the
- 14:37Speaker 4: sixth day of spring training. And some people will be like,
- 14:40Speaker 4: I saw a tweet where they were like, oh, some
- 14:42Speaker 4: people freak out after a walk-off hit in July, and
- 14:48Speaker 4: they high-five at the end of a, you know, winning
- 14:50Speaker 4: the National League championship. And I think what he saw
- 14:54Speaker 4: was a team that was supremely focused on He didn't see, oh, man,
- 14:59Speaker 4: they had such much better players than us. We're definitely
- 15:03Speaker 4: not going to be able to beat them. He saw
- 15:07Speaker 4: there's a focus to win a World Series, not to
- 15:11Speaker 4: make the World Series. And I think that focus helped
- 15:14Speaker 4: this team grind through everything that they went through this season.
- 15:21Speaker 1: One more step, and we'll keep talking about it. We've
- 15:24Speaker 1: got plenty of time. They have a week. Until they
- 15:26Speaker 1: play ball again at the World Series. Baseball fans, time
- 15:30Speaker 1: to lock in. Lorraine Co. remineralizing pouches are nicotine-free. That's
- 15:34Speaker 1: important to us. And they are made with powerful nootropics

- 15:48Speaker 1: we are just racking up designs for those Brewers fans
- 15:52Speaker 1: excited about their team cracking the World Series. Look at
- 15:55Speaker 1: what we've got. There's Miz, there's Bryce Terang, Yelich, Churio,
- 16:00Speaker 1: Luis Lara, and some other fun phrases, including a very
- 16:02Speaker 1: viral one. Go to FoulTerritoryShop.com. And coming up next, Frenchie,
- 16:08Speaker 1: Jeff Francoeur, to talk about the ALCS. They're playing unbelievable
- 16:12Speaker 1: right now.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Congrats to them. I hope that they end up winning
- 16:17Speaker 6: it all. They're almost playing perfect baseball, and that's a
- 16:21Speaker 6: team that's Incredibly hungry, incredibly talented. Their pitching was lights out.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Their offense was almost, you know, suffocating. I don't know
- 16:32Speaker 6: if we might have had one shutdown inning all four games,
- 16:37Speaker 6: and it's a tough, you know, recipe to win like that. But,
- 16:42Speaker 6: you know, at the end of the day, we got beat.
- 16:45Speaker 6: They played better than us. We didn't hit. We pitched well,
- 16:49Speaker 6: but we didn't– You know, they just didn't give us
- 16:53Speaker 6: a chance. And, you know, congrats to them.
- 16:56Speaker 1: There's so many comments flying around. Some people are like, oh,
- 16:58Speaker 1: they were relying too much on Kike at bats. Like,
- 17:01Speaker 1: have you seen Kike Hernandez in the World Series over
- 17:03Speaker 1: the years? Like, pressing the Kike Hernandez button. If they didn't,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you'd have people being like, why is Kike not up
- 17:09Speaker 1: at this point? Like, come on. And then, actually, we
- 17:12Speaker 1: have a comment from Jason in the chat who said
- 17:14Speaker 1: he heard Dan Patrick call the Dodgers roster contractors. They
- 17:17Speaker 1: might all get along, but maybe sometimes trying to piece
- 17:19Speaker 1: this together that way. won't always work. I mean, they
- 17:22Speaker 1: just won the past two World Series titles, so I
- 17:24Speaker 1: think they did a good job. It's really hard to
- 17:26Speaker 1: win every single year. I don't know. I think we're
- 17:28Speaker 1: overdoing it here. There's no chemistry issues. This isn't on
- 17:33Speaker 1: Dave Roberts. Dave Roberts, no matter what he did, unless
- 17:36Speaker 1: he pressed a button and got a new roster to
- 17:38Speaker 1: beat the Brewers in five minutes, it wasn't happening. Brewers,
- 17:42Speaker 1: better team this year.
- 17:43Speaker 7: Period.
- 17:44Speaker 2: It was a sweep.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Like I said, tip your cap to them guys. They're
- 17:49Speaker 3: They're the best team in the National League right now,
- 17:51Speaker 3: and they are, and they showed why. There's no excuse.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Stop making excuses and making up words that are going
- 17:59Speaker 3: to make you sound better.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Like, that's just silly.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Again, that's a lazy narrative. You're trying to just completely
- 18:05Speaker 4: pick Dave Roberts? Anybody who brings Dave Roberts up, Dave
- 18:08Speaker 4: Roberts went back to his three MVPs at the top
- 18:11Speaker 4: of the lineup. How did that work out? Shohei put
- 18:14Speaker 4: that man almost out of the stadium. That was a ridiculous–
- 18:18Speaker 4: that move alone shows Dave Roberts gets it. He has
- 18:22Speaker 4: the pulse of this team. They didn't have enough to
- 18:25Speaker 4: beat the Brewers. It's not Dave Roberts' fault. nobody nobody
- 18:29Speaker 4: all the narratives that i hear out there i'm just
- 18:31Speaker 4: like geez louise just stop it just irritates me.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Yeah bring up baseball that that's where i think we
- 18:41Speaker 1: should be doing bring up the bullpen bring up the
- 18:43Speaker 1: abs right bringing up like the the chemistry the contractors
- 18:49Speaker 1: like it's such a.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Stretch They showed a video of Will Smith missing a
- 18:54Speaker 4: high five from Dave Roberts, and I'm like, stop, stop.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Stop it.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Hi, Max the Bald Eagle from Marathon here. We asked
- 19:03Speaker 1: people if they could do an impression of me.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Have a listen.
- 19:17Speaker 3: You can save up to a dollar a gallon with
- 19:19Speaker 3: the Marathon Rewards app.
- 19:22Speaker 7: That last one was pretty good. Marathon, where fun runs
- 19:25Speaker 7: on full. Available at participating Marathon locations. Terms and conditions apply.
- 19:28Speaker 7: See MarathonRewards.com for details.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Jeff Francoeur doing a great job calling the ALCS on TBS,
- 19:37Speaker 1: and he brought the sunshine, too, to Cleveland. Frenchie, thanks
- 19:40Speaker 1: for doing that. I heard it's great out there.
- 19:43Speaker 7: You know, guys, it was really nice yesterday at one o'clock.
- 19:47Speaker 7: And but you know what? What's more Cleveland than rain
- 19:50Speaker 7: and 30 mile per hour winds tonight? Like now with
- 19:53Speaker 7: the Dodgers series over, I was telling Brian Anderson and
- 19:57Speaker 7: Jihadi and all them this morning. I'm like, you got
- 19:59Speaker 7: the Guardians tonight. You got Ohio State, Indiana at noon tomorrow.
- 20:04Speaker 7: Guardians tomorrow night. And then, dude, you got the first
- 20:07Speaker 7: place Cleveland Browns at the Dog Pound Sunday. Like, freaking
- 20:11Speaker 7: come to Cleveland.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Ohio and Cleveland specifically is thriving right now.
- 20:16Speaker 2: You're right.
- 20:16Speaker 1: This series, this is it. You guys are the series now.
- 20:19Speaker 1: We got the NLCS out of the way, and now
- 20:21Speaker 1: this is the main event, finally. So... What are we
- 20:25Speaker 1: thinking then? And I agree with you. Watching bad weather
- 20:27Speaker 1: from home is awesome. So I'm excited about that. I mean,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you just sit on your couch, have a beer, some popcorn,
- 20:33Speaker 1: whatever it is. What are we thinking here heading into
- 20:36Speaker 1: this next one, especially in terms of the pitching matchup, right?
- 20:38Speaker 1: We're going to get some bullpen concoction from one of
- 20:41Speaker 1: the best bullpens in baseball.
- 20:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I think so. And I think this is one
- 20:46Speaker 7: of those games for the Guardians. The longer they keep
- 20:48Speaker 7: this close, then, you know, the advantage goes to them
- 20:51Speaker 7: because they're going to start Uh, you know, Slade Ciccone,
- 20:54Speaker 7: you know, how many innings he goes, we don't know,
- 20:57Speaker 7: but at the end of the day, there's two or
- 20:59Speaker 7: three guys are going to try to get them to
- 21:00Speaker 7: the fifth or sixth, a lot like what we saw
- 21:02Speaker 7: at the Brewers last night. And if you're still in
- 21:04Speaker 7: the game and, uh, you're right there, then you're going
- 21:07Speaker 7: to get the good, the good players. I say this.
- 21:10Speaker 7: That matchup of Cade Smith and Yandy Diaz in the
- 21:14Speaker 7: bottom or in the top of the eighth yesterday was awesome, man.
- 21:16Speaker 7: I mean, Yandy's had some great at-bats. Cade Smith's one
- 21:19Speaker 7: of the best in the game. It was kind of
- 21:21Speaker 7: like in football. They call it big on big. It
- 21:23Speaker 7: was awesome.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Real quick, do you mind, before I ask this question,
- 21:28Speaker 3: flipping your camera so we can get a little wider
- 21:30Speaker 3: view if possible?
- 21:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I can.
- 21:33Speaker 7: You want to go sideways? There we go.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Oh, there we go. Delicious.
- 21:38Speaker 7: Oh, let's go. Let's go there. Look at Cleveland boys.
- 21:43Speaker 3: I know where you are right there. I've had that.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Hey question. So you brought up the weather a little
- 21:51Speaker 3: bit in the beginning. I want to ask about yesterday.
- 21:54Speaker 3: It looked like some of the hitters are having a
- 21:56Speaker 3: lot of trouble hitting. I mean, I bring up Caminero
- 21:59Speaker 3: striking out four times. I, I feel like he's been
- 22:03Speaker 3: swinging pretty good. I feel like that was unlike him yesterday.
- 22:06Speaker 3: A lot of foul balls. Talk to me about the
- 22:08Speaker 3: pop flies. That one o'clock game was a little bit tricky.
- 22:11Speaker 3: You guys talked about it a lot. Was it really
- 22:13Speaker 3: that bad?
- 22:13Speaker 7: It was, there were no clouds in the sky at all.
- 22:16Speaker 7: And y'all know this, that is a tough, that sun
- 22:18Speaker 7: is right behind a home plate there. So it's just,
- 22:22Speaker 7: it was really bright yesterday. And then you got Gavin
- 22:25Speaker 7: Williams out there chunking a hundred up in the zone.
- 22:28Speaker 7: I mean, that's the one thing, right? You always try
- 22:30Speaker 7: to say like, you know, are guys in a slump?
- 22:33Speaker 7: Are guys, you know, just facing better pitching? I think
- 22:36Speaker 7: we'll always say it. The guys are going to face
- 22:38Speaker 7: better pitching in the postseason, but I will tell you
- 22:40Speaker 7: this for Tampa and Kevin Cash, you know, I actually
- 22:43Speaker 7: saw him at dinner last night and he was very
- 22:46Speaker 7: out of me. He's like, we got a hit, man.
- 22:47Speaker 7: I mean, you look at a junior two for 11
- 22:50Speaker 7: with seven case, a Rhonda who was really good against
- 22:53Speaker 7: the Yankees guys in those three games over 10. So
- 22:57Speaker 7: it's like, they have got to generate some offense. The
- 23:00Speaker 7: pitching for the Rays is held up there into the bargain.
- 23:02Speaker 7: I mean, they really have. They've given themselves plenty of opportunities,
- 23:06Speaker 7: but the Rays are going to have to hit. And tonight,
- 23:09Speaker 7: you figure, might be that type of game for them
- 23:11Speaker 7: because they're not facing Gavin Williams. You know, they have
- 23:14Speaker 7: a chance that they get the lead to stay away
- 23:16Speaker 7: from Zabrowski and Cade Smith.
- 23:18Speaker 2: So.
- 23:20Speaker 7: The Rays tonight, and then you look.
- 23:22Speaker 2: At it, right?
- 23:22Speaker 7: If they get tonight, they have Drew Rasmussen going tomorrow.
- 23:25Speaker 7: I mean, this series could go a lot of different
- 23:28Speaker 7: ways right now. All right.
- 23:30Speaker 4: I know you didn't watch the Rays all year, but
- 23:33Speaker 4: we had Brian Anderson, the Teemu Brian Anderson, not your
- 23:36Speaker 4: Brian Anderson. And this is a team that doesn't strike out,
- 23:40Speaker 4: and you just talked about it. I get it. You're
- 23:42Speaker 4: facing good pitching. Do you see them– pushing or trying
- 23:49Speaker 4: different things that maybe, ah, this wasn't exactly the team
- 23:53Speaker 4: that was here? Or is it truly just, yes, it's
- 23:56Speaker 4: good pitching and sorry you're striking out? Because this team
- 23:58Speaker 4: was the best. They had the lowest K rate in
- 24:01Speaker 4: the entire league.
- 24:02Speaker 7: I think you're seeing some guys chase, and you want
- 24:05Speaker 7: to talk about Yandy Diaz, right? His experience in the postseason,
- 24:10Speaker 7: he's played many a times. He's not chasing necessarily. He's
- 24:14Speaker 7: putting better at bats, fouling balls off. I just think, too,
- 24:19Speaker 7: when they played the Yankees, everything went right. They did
- 24:21Speaker 7: not hit great. I think in that series versus the Yankees,
- 24:24Speaker 7: they might have hit 200. I think they were two
- 24:26Speaker 7: for 20 with runners in scoring position. Their pitching was
- 24:29Speaker 7: just so elite that it kind of masked all that.
- 24:32Speaker 7: Then they take five more days off, and you come
- 24:35Speaker 7: in facing a red-hot Guardians team who, again, their bullpen
- 24:39Speaker 7: is really kind of like what we saw with the Brewers.
- 24:42Speaker 7: is so good with so many different big arms in
- 24:45Speaker 7: that bullpen. I mean, we're not even talking about Espino
- 24:48Speaker 7: coming into this series, and all he's done is pitch
- 24:51Speaker 7: two innings and strike out five out of six guys.
- 24:53Speaker 7: I mean, it's been incredible to watch his bullpen, and
- 24:57Speaker 7: I think we can all agree. I think the Guardians
- 24:59Speaker 7: underachieved all year. I thought the Tigers had the most
- 25:02Speaker 7: talent to win that division, but then when they got behind,
- 25:06Speaker 7: we kept waiting for Cleveland to come, and they didn't, right?
- 25:08Speaker 7: They didn't until that last month, but now... I mean,
- 25:11Speaker 7: you look at some of the guys they've added and,
- 25:14Speaker 7: you know, Lowe's some big hits. DeLauder and Wright is
- 25:17Speaker 7: a beast, man. I mean, what a beautiful swing he has.
- 25:20Speaker 7: Kwon decided not to try to hit home runs again, right?
- 25:22Speaker 7: And try to get on base and get base hits.
- 25:25Speaker 7: And that's what he's doing. So, right now, man, you
- 25:27Speaker 7: got to tip your hat. The Guardians are playing well.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I want to talk about the Guardians, too, a little
- 25:32Speaker 2: bit more. Like, it just.
- 25:33Speaker 3: For you, I want to get your opinion on this.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Every time somebody gets on, does it seem like they're
- 25:37Speaker 3: going to try and steal a base? Has this just
- 25:39Speaker 3: been their motto going on? I mean, Hicks back there
- 25:42Speaker 3: is pretty darn good, but I seem like every time
- 25:45Speaker 3: somebody gets on, you know, the right person, of course,
- 25:47Speaker 3: it just seems like it doesn't matter how many balls
- 25:50Speaker 3: or strikes or how many outs they're going to try
- 25:51Speaker 3: and get that extra base. Has that been their kind
- 25:54Speaker 3: of MO going into this?
- 25:56Speaker 7: I think it's almost, yeah, Todd, like they're playing with
- 25:58Speaker 7: health money, right? They're just running. I mean, Ramirez gets
- 26:01Speaker 7: thrown out. First pitch that he goes yesterday comes up
- 26:05Speaker 7: in the third inning. First pitch, gone again. Like, I
- 26:07Speaker 7: don't care. You know, throw me out again. And so
- 26:10Speaker 7: I think they're taking some chances, which they feel like
- 26:12Speaker 7: against the Rays they have to a little bit. But
- 26:16Speaker 7: tip your hat, man. They're doing it. If they don't
- 26:19Speaker 7: get it done, you know, they're going back out. And
- 26:21Speaker 7: then for Steven Vogt, I give him a lot of credit.
- 26:23Speaker 7: We talk this time of year sometimes about playing the
- 26:27Speaker 7: hot player. against playing the guy that's been there a
- 26:31Speaker 7: long time or put up the numbers. I mean, Martinez
- 26:33Speaker 7: has actually led the Guardians in home runs this year.
- 26:37Speaker 7: And we all know he was, what, 0 for 15
- 26:39Speaker 7: with 7Ks going into game five against the White Sox.
- 26:42Speaker 7: So what does he do? Puts in Petey Alpin. What
- 26:45Speaker 7: does that guy do? Hits two doubles. And now he
- 26:48Speaker 7: comes here yesterday and in a massive moment. I mean, when,
- 26:52Speaker 7: you know, the fans, we got changed to one o'clock.
- 26:54Speaker 7: They were all there. They were getting in the game.
- 26:56Speaker 7: But when he hit that home run, That place exploded
- 26:59Speaker 7: inside that stadium. So I give Stephen Bowe, too, a
- 27:02Speaker 7: lot of credit for, you know what, man? I know
- 27:04Speaker 7: he's had a great year. It's not working right now.
- 27:07Speaker 7: I'm going to play the hot dude.
- 27:09Speaker 4: This weather that you were talking about, breezy, windy, drizzle.
- 27:15Speaker 4: You talked about the shiny sun the other day and
- 27:19Speaker 4: how it's like, oh, it's tough to see. Who does
- 27:21Speaker 4: this weather– Who does it benefit? Is it benefit Guardians?
- 27:27Speaker 4: Because it's like, hey, you know what? We're used to
- 27:29Speaker 4: this in April. We've played in this. Or does it
- 27:31Speaker 4: benefit the Rays because Nick Martinez is going to throw
- 27:35Speaker 4: that change up and the Guardians are the third worst
- 27:38Speaker 4: in the league against the changes?
- 27:41Speaker 2: I know this.
- 27:42Speaker 7: I think it benefits whoever the hell grew up in
- 27:44Speaker 7: the Northeast or Midwest and has done this before. I'll
- 27:47Speaker 7: tell you that right now because I know this. Me
- 27:49Speaker 7: being from Atlanta, dude, I want 70. I want sunshine.
- 27:53Speaker 7: I want to be out there. But it will be interesting.
- 27:56Speaker 7: And you look at Nick Martinez, right? He went to Fordham.
- 28:00Speaker 7: He's been around a long time, so he's pitched in
- 28:02Speaker 7: these conditions a lot of the time, whether it's in April,
- 28:06Speaker 7: whether it's whatever. And, you know, it's not going to be...
- 28:10Speaker 7: Tomorrow night's the cold night. I think tomorrow night the
- 28:12Speaker 7: high is like 49. Tonight's just going to be really,
- 28:15Speaker 7: really windy. And so I think it'll be interesting. The
- 28:18Speaker 7: outfielders are going to have to be backing each other up.
- 28:20Speaker 7: These are both really good outfield teams. So I think...
- 28:23Speaker 7: You know, we'll see. I think the big question is, guys,
- 28:27Speaker 7: is the wind blowing in? Is it blowing out?
- 28:28Speaker 2: Is it blowing to left?
- 28:29Speaker 7: Is it blowing to right? That will be a big
- 28:31Speaker 7: story because if the wind's blowing in, man, this might
- 28:34Speaker 7: be a one-nothing game tonight because it's supposed to be
- 28:36Speaker 7: 25 to 30-mile-per-hour gusts.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I know this.
- 28:40Speaker 7: I'm glad I'm calling the game in the booth and
- 28:42Speaker 7: Lauren Jihadi is going to sit there with her hair
- 28:44Speaker 7: and hat flapping all over the place during the game.
- 28:48Speaker 3: That's incredible. Weather does play some tricks. I want to
- 28:52Speaker 3: talk about Jose Ramirez a little bit. This guy, I
- 28:56Speaker 3: just feel like he's starting to become the hero of
- 28:58Speaker 3: everybody here in baseball and how good he's been.
- 29:01Speaker 2: He made the big error. But guess what?
- 29:03Speaker 3: Nobody cares about that anymore. It was just one game.
- 29:06Speaker 3: And I feel like that's what makes guys truly remarkable,
- 29:09Speaker 3: how you come back. I just feel like he's going
- 29:10Speaker 3: to do something every time he gets up, especially when
- 29:12Speaker 3: he hits left-handed. Can you talk about his presence and
- 29:16Speaker 3: what he means to this, not only organization, but city
- 29:19Speaker 3: and baseball? Yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 7: Well, I think it's cool because I think we can
- 29:23Speaker 7: all agree a lot of times in our career, right?
- 29:25Speaker 7: It was like, who's going to pay me the most money?
- 29:28Speaker 7: I've put up this great year and they got to
- 29:30Speaker 7: pay me. And I look at Hosey and he went
- 29:33Speaker 7: on with those guys after game one down in the
- 29:35Speaker 7: studio and he told Pedro and Jimmy and Curtis and Lefkoe, like,
- 29:39Speaker 7: I love this city. and they love me. And it's
- 29:41Speaker 7: 14 years he's been here now. He's been to the
- 29:43Speaker 7: postseason eight times. And it's him, man. He brings that
- 29:47Speaker 7: energy for this place. That is incredible. And I think
- 29:50Speaker 7: anybody that's played against him, played long enough, respects the
- 29:54Speaker 7: heck out of what he does. Just go look at
- 29:56Speaker 7: his career numbers and how consistent he was. And he was, dude,
- 30:00Speaker 7: he was very adamant. I had a bad year this year, statistically,
- 30:03Speaker 7: the worst of my career. He had injury zone. He's like,
- 30:06Speaker 7: I'm feeling good. These off days, those five days they
- 30:09Speaker 7: got by getting the second seat, I think for him
- 30:11Speaker 7: to rest his hammock bone were a huge deal. But, man,
- 30:15Speaker 7: how can you not love when you see this dude
- 30:17Speaker 7: come out there? And, I mean, that ovation he got yesterday,
- 30:20Speaker 7: because I think we can all agree, if you put
- 30:23Speaker 7: that dude on the open market, the amount of money
- 30:26Speaker 7: he could make with how healthy he is and how
- 30:27Speaker 7: he plays the game, what, 36, 37 bags this year? Like,
- 30:32Speaker 7: the way he does all that stuff, but, man, he's
- 30:35Speaker 7: so easy to root for.
- 30:36Speaker 4: All right, the guy's behind him, because Jose Ramirez can never–
- 30:41Speaker 4: Ever beat me, so I don't understand what these teams
- 30:43Speaker 4: are doing. But Chase De Lauder went three for four
- 30:46Speaker 4: the other day. I'm not even going to go with
- 30:48Speaker 4: Chase De Lauder because you already said it. He's putting
- 30:50Speaker 4: together good at-bats. It's Joe Adele. Joe Adele, for me,
- 30:54Speaker 4: I think he started. You didn't do the series, but
- 30:56Speaker 4: I think he struck out seven times in his first
- 31:00Speaker 4: ten at-bats.
- 31:00Speaker 7: Struck out six times in his first seven ABs against
- 31:03Speaker 7: the White Sox.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Okay, thank you. And now the at-bats that he's having,
- 31:08Speaker 4: even to the point where last year is where he's
- 31:11Speaker 4: not slapping, but he's trying to hit balls to the
- 31:14Speaker 4: opposite field. Do you see this as something that you're like, whoa,
- 31:19Speaker 4: this is a talented player that's okay making adjustments that
- 31:21Speaker 4: maybe guys don't make during the regular season?
- 31:25Speaker 7: Yeah, excuse me. Absolutely. I completely agree. And think about it.
- 31:30Speaker 7: This dude's out in Anaheim. He had to feel like
- 31:31Speaker 7: when he came here, it's like, wow, I got a
- 31:34Speaker 7: chance to play in the postseason. I got a chance to...
- 31:37Speaker 7: do all these things that I never was able to
- 31:39Speaker 7: do out in Anaheim. But I do. I think you
- 31:42Speaker 7: all know this. When you get to the postseason, it's like,
- 31:44Speaker 7: how can I help this team win? How can I
- 31:45Speaker 7: be successful? You see guys cut down a lot of
- 31:48Speaker 7: times on swing and miss, right? Shoot one the other way.
- 31:51Speaker 7: And just them giving length and protection, that's the biggest thing.
- 31:55Speaker 7: We did the Guardians two years ago against the Yankees
- 31:58Speaker 7: in that ALCS. And there just was not the length
- 32:01Speaker 7: in this lineup that you see for the Guardians. And
- 32:03Speaker 7: there is now. You get to six. You get to seven. Bailey,
- 32:07Speaker 7: Patrick Bailey having a heck of a postseason. We didn't
- 32:10Speaker 7: have that two years ago covering the Guardians. It was
- 32:12Speaker 7: like you go through Kwon, Ramirez, and it was kind
- 32:16Speaker 7: of like, all right, you have an inning, inning and
- 32:18Speaker 7: a half where you probably had some outs in that lineup.
- 32:21Speaker 7: it's not happening anymore. And I, like I said, I
- 32:25Speaker 7: being able to have a chase Adele and low boom,
- 32:30Speaker 7: it gives them way more chances to get the big hit.
- 32:34Speaker 3: I want to ask you a little bit about Cleveland
- 32:36Speaker 3: or yeah, Cleveland, excuse me. It just seems like you
- 32:40Speaker 3: brought it up a little bit. It seems like first
- 32:42Speaker 3: half of the year, they're just going about their business.
- 32:45Speaker 3: And then they kind of like kick it up in
- 32:47Speaker 3: the second half. I, I'm just curious, how do they
- 32:51Speaker 3: keep that going? I mean, why are they so much
- 32:53Speaker 3: better doing that? And then in the playoffs, all of
- 32:56Speaker 3: a sudden, do you think it's calculated at all? It
- 32:58Speaker 3: just seems like this team... Oh, yeah, no, they're going
- 33:01Speaker 3: through the motions again. But again, they're on top. They're
- 33:03Speaker 3: two games out, three games out. Talk to me about why, though.
- 33:07Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 33:07Speaker 7: It took them a while to get going. I will
- 33:09Speaker 7: tell you this. Steven Vogt and Chris Antenetti, you know,
- 33:12Speaker 7: Chris Antenetti did an unbelievable job, guys. We see guys
- 33:15Speaker 7: out at the deadline, right? And there's teams that can
- 33:17Speaker 7: go get the best arm, can go, well, Cleveland's not
- 33:20Speaker 7: like that. We know that. They don't have an unlimited payroll.
- 33:23Speaker 7: And so what did they do? They went and got Adele.
- 33:25Speaker 7: They needed a right-handed power bat. They got him. They
- 33:28Speaker 7: needed a first baseman. They went and got Lowe. They
- 33:31Speaker 7: needed a catcher. They went and got Bailey. They needed
- 33:36Speaker 7: one more starting pitcher. They went and got Griffin from Washington.
- 33:39Speaker 7: So give credit. They didn't make the big sexy headlines
- 33:44Speaker 7: in getting the top guys. But, man, I think they
- 33:47Speaker 7: got the right guys to fit this team. And that's
- 33:49Speaker 7: what Stephen Bowe told us before game one. He's like,
- 33:52Speaker 7: the last time we played the Rays was before the
- 33:54Speaker 7: deadline at the end of July. He's like, we are
- 33:55Speaker 7: a completely different team. We believe we're a completely different team.
- 33:59Speaker 7: And if you go back to September 1st, I mean,
- 34:01Speaker 7: this team is playing, I think, almost a 70% win clip. So,
- 34:05Speaker 7: you know what? They got hot at the right time. And,
- 34:09Speaker 7: you know, right now they're doing the things that are
- 34:10Speaker 7: going to help them win ballgames.
- 34:13Speaker 4: On the adverse side. On the adverse side. Did the
- 34:17Speaker 4: Rays do enough at the deadline? Did they add enough
- 34:20Speaker 4: of their pieces that, not saying that they needed to,
- 34:24Speaker 4: 96 or 97 wins this year? That's incredible. But did
- 34:27Speaker 4: they do enough? And is that showing up here in
- 34:31Speaker 4: how the team is playing?
- 34:34Speaker 7: You know, I do think they did enough. I think
- 34:36Speaker 7: they have a very good team. I think the biggest
- 34:38Speaker 7: thing that you talked about was the swing and miss.
- 34:40Speaker 7: This was a team that did not do it much
- 34:42Speaker 7: during the year. And all of a sudden they got
- 34:46Speaker 7: to this now. It's a little bit, we can say it,
- 34:48Speaker 7: but like you remember, I did that four game sweep
- 34:51Speaker 7: of the Dodgers with the Brewers last year. And the
- 34:53Speaker 7: Brewers were talking about contact and putting the ball in play.
- 34:55Speaker 7: And those pitchers for the Dodgers just mowed them down.
- 34:58Speaker 7: There was a lot of swing and miss in that
- 35:00Speaker 7: four-game series. And this year, we didn't see that. And
- 35:04Speaker 7: so I think for Tampa, it's just find a way
- 35:06Speaker 7: to put the ball in play. They have great hitters.
- 35:08Speaker 7: You know, they really do. They have a fast lineup.
- 35:11Speaker 7: Chandler Simpson, DeLuca, those guys have been great. But I
- 35:15Speaker 7: think it's that middle part when you talk about it
- 35:17Speaker 7: with Aranda, Caminero, and Victor Mesa Jr. Those three have
- 35:22Speaker 7: got to find a way. Just get base hits. If
- 35:25Speaker 7: the big ball comes, great. And then we talk about
- 35:27Speaker 7: the weather these next two games. Cold, windy. The chance
- 35:31Speaker 7: of home runs in those games, guys, you know as
- 35:33Speaker 7: well as I do, especially if the wind's blowing in,
- 35:35Speaker 7: that's not going to be a recipe for success. So
- 35:38Speaker 7: for me, it's those guys have to be able to
- 35:41Speaker 7: get some hits because that's a 2-3-4 in the lineup.
- 35:44Speaker 7: If you don't hit, you're not going to win.
- 35:46Speaker 4: All right, you talk about the hitting, but last one
- 35:48Speaker 4: here from me, Kevin Cash. Kevin Cash has left some
- 35:52Speaker 4: guys in to give up damage. Is this the same
- 35:55Speaker 4: Kevin Cash that we know? Or is this the Kevin Cash?
- 35:59Speaker 4: Is he going to go back to the Kevin Cash
- 36:01Speaker 4: that a lot of Rays fans loathe over because Blake
- 36:06Speaker 4: Snell still got taken out in 2020?
- 36:09Speaker 7: You know, it's funny because I've been around Cash. We
- 36:12Speaker 7: did that series in 2020 in the bubble. And he's
- 36:15Speaker 7: definitely evolved. Look at him, dude. Game one, he left.
- 36:20Speaker 7: People say he left Rasmussen in too long. I think
- 36:23Speaker 7: that's bull crap. Rasmussen's unbelievable. I watched him throw eight
- 36:26Speaker 7: innings against the Yankees and absolutely car. He threw a
- 36:28Speaker 7: bad pitch. It was a spinning cutter to Patrick Bailey
- 36:31Speaker 7: that he tied the ball game up. If that's a heater,
- 36:33Speaker 7: if that's something else, we might be talking about something different.
- 36:36Speaker 7: He left Freddie Peralta in and he delivered in game two.
- 36:39Speaker 7: He went the full six innings. Yesterday, look, it was
- 36:42Speaker 7: the fifth inning, and it just happened quick for Griffin Jacks.
- 36:46Speaker 7: And that's probably the one guy he might be saying,
- 36:49Speaker 7: you know what, I got to keep an eye on
- 36:50Speaker 7: a little bit sooner if something goes. I think the
- 36:53Speaker 7: good news for him, though, is their bullpen came in
- 36:54Speaker 7: yesterday with Wells and Mattson. They did a phenomenal job.
- 36:58Speaker 7: So you can say a lot of different things with that,
- 37:02Speaker 7: but I do think Cash has realized for us to
- 37:05Speaker 7: win a seven-game series, I do have to get some length.
- 37:08Speaker 7: out of some of my starters. And that'll be a
- 37:12Speaker 7: storyline tonight with the Guardians, guys. If they have to
- 37:14Speaker 7: go to the pen in the second, third inning and
- 37:16Speaker 7: keep running that out, it's going to be tough for
- 37:18Speaker 7: them to win. Whereas, look, the other side, Martinez, you
- 37:21Speaker 7: got to figure he's going to give us five, six,
- 37:23Speaker 7: and go to a natural bullpen. So I know this,
- 37:27Speaker 7: between Kate Smith and Brian Baker right now, you do
- 37:29Speaker 7: not want to be down going in the ninth inning
- 37:31Speaker 7: because those guys are about as locked down as there
- 37:34Speaker 7: are when it comes to closers in baseball right now.
- 37:38Speaker 4: I love that you said that about Cashy because when
- 37:40Speaker 4: I watch him, it looks like he's watching the game
- 37:42Speaker 4: now and not looking at his paper. And I think
- 37:46Speaker 4: the new Cash is the good Cash and the real Cash.
- 37:50Speaker 4: I love it. Last one. Everybody needs to make adjustments.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Are you shaving before the game or are we kind
- 37:56Speaker 4: of going off?
- 37:57Speaker 7: I am, dude. I don't have a 4 o'clock pickup,
- 38:00Speaker 7: so I'm going to do a little work and then
- 38:03Speaker 7: I'll get a fresh shave. even though it's going to
- 38:06Speaker 7: be cold. I'll be looking good. The wife's got all
- 38:09Speaker 7: my suits picked out. She don't let me dress myself.
- 38:12Speaker 7: I will tell you this. To finish off, though, I
- 38:15Speaker 7: do love what you're saying with Cashy because I knew
- 38:17Speaker 7: when Rasmussen gave up that home run, it's going to
- 38:19Speaker 7: be like, he should have gone to him. He should
- 38:21Speaker 7: have pulled him.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I'm like, dude.
- 38:23Speaker 7: If you're sitting in that dugout and I got Drew
- 38:25Speaker 7: Rasmussen out there, I'll lose with that dude before I
- 38:28Speaker 7: lose with three-fourths of the bullpen. I don't care how
- 38:31Speaker 7: good they are. And you know what I like about Cash?
- 38:34Speaker 7: As he said the next day, I don't regret anything.
- 38:36Speaker 7: And I told him in the office, no, you did
- 38:39Speaker 7: the right move. He threw a bad pitch.
- 38:41Speaker 2: It happens.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Yeah, don't wear those shoes, though. Those shoes do not match.
- 38:45Speaker 4: The ones you're wearing right now, do not wear those.
- 38:49Speaker 7: Shoes?
- 38:51Speaker 4: I can see your shoes. They do not match your shoes.
- 38:53Speaker 1: He's messing with you, Frenchy. He's messing with you. He
- 38:56Speaker 1: can't see your shoes.
- 38:58Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Don't take that from him. Kratz is on his high
- 39:02Speaker 1: because did you see they had a bottle that had
- 39:04Speaker 1: Kratz's name on it in Milwaukee when they were popping bottles?
- 39:08Speaker 7: I'm just hoping Brian Anderson's alive after last night, you know,
- 39:12Speaker 7: to be honest with you with this, but I did
- 39:16Speaker 7: love yesterday. If you watched our game, Brian Anderson gave
- 39:18Speaker 7: a shout out to the Brewers. Cause I know y'all just,
- 39:20Speaker 7: I was listening to y'all on some of this, the
- 39:23Speaker 7: Dodgers lost to a better team this year. They did.
- 39:26Speaker 7: It is what it is, man. The Brewers are freaking good,
- 39:29Speaker 7: and there's no problem in the Dodgers clubhouse. We all
- 39:33Speaker 7: know those guys. It's a great clubhouse. Every time I
- 39:35Speaker 7: go in there, give credit. The freaking Brewers were on fire,
- 39:38Speaker 7: and they played a heck of a series.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Better team.
- 39:41Speaker 2: No decision.
- 39:42Speaker 1: It wasn't one decision.
- 39:43Speaker 7: They swept them.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Better team, period. There's nothing to dissect. That one decision,
- 39:48Speaker 1: that one IKF lead like last year. Like, we don't
- 39:50Speaker 1: have that. They were just better. I'm with you, dude.
- 39:52Speaker 1: And yeah, I like BA. He's like, yeah, I'm paying
- 39:55Speaker 1: a little attention to that series, too.
- 39:56Speaker 7: I'm like, yeah.
- 39:58Speaker 2: That was a good line.
- 39:58Speaker 7: Yeah, trust me.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Sure.
- 40:00Speaker 7: Went to dinner the other night. The big screen TV
- 40:03Speaker 7: set up at the restaurant here. And we were watching
- 40:06Speaker 7: it all.
- 40:07Speaker 1: He deserves it. Well, give him a hug for us.
- 40:09Speaker 1: And we're excited to check out the next and really
- 40:12Speaker 1: the headliner now, the next few games here. on TBS. Frenchy,
- 40:15Speaker 1: thanks for the time.
- 40:16Speaker 7: Ohio, baby. The state of Ohio. This is their moment.
- 40:19Speaker 1: It's Ohio weekend and you're there for it on the
- 40:22Speaker 1: ground floor.
- 40:23Speaker 2: I am.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Thanks, Frenchy.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Talk soon, man.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Thanks, guys.
- 40:25Speaker 7: Y'all are the best, man.
- 40:26Speaker 4: See ya.
- 40:27Speaker 2: You too.

- 41:29Speaker 1: we sent you.
- 41:30Speaker 2: What's up?
- 41:31Speaker 1: Hey, we talked about the Phillies yesterday with Jim Salisbury.
- 41:34Speaker 1: One little note from Jeff Kerr. Maybe Kratz can tell
- 41:37Speaker 1: me more about who that is. He said Kevin Long
- 41:40Speaker 1: was massive in prospects, improving their hitting from high to AAA,
- 41:44Speaker 1: named guys like Aiden Miller. but the Phillies had to
- 41:46Speaker 1: make changes. His approach was too inconsistent at major league level.
- 41:49Speaker 4: I think it's the exact opposite. I'm sorry, Kerr. I
- 41:53Speaker 4: think you got the wrong info because I talked to
- 41:57Speaker 4: people in the minor leagues, and I think it was
- 42:00Speaker 4: the exact opposite. I'm not saying that Kevin Long was
- 42:02Speaker 4: the reason that the big league roster was inconsistent, but
- 42:07Speaker 4: I think there was not enough continuity there. from the
- 42:11Speaker 4: big leagues to the minor leagues. It doesn't mean like, oh,
- 42:14Speaker 4: if there was, then Trey Turner would have hit better. No,
- 42:17Speaker 4: obviously big league hitters are big league hitters. But to
- 42:20Speaker 4: say that, oh, this organization is going to be behind
- 42:23Speaker 4: because the big league hitting coach is gone and now
- 42:25Speaker 4: the minor leaguers are going to have less. No, like
- 42:29Speaker 4: that's not, I disagree. And I think there is some
- 42:34Speaker 4: low hanging fruit there for the Phillies because Boehm is
- 42:38Speaker 4: most likely gone. even though Dave Dombrowski said it's going
- 42:42Speaker 4: to be tough to replace his 90 runs that he
- 42:44Speaker 4: drove in. Trey Turner may be switching positions. You might
- 42:47Speaker 4: need a whole new left side of the infield if
- 42:51Speaker 4: they keep Stott at second base. There's some spots that
- 42:55Speaker 4: need to be filled, and I think that the fact
- 42:58Speaker 4: that that offense needs to have an infusion of youthful
- 43:05Speaker 4: vigor in the box that okay, the veterans can feed
- 43:08Speaker 4: off of and just that youthful optimism that you get.
- 43:12Speaker 4: And that only comes from the minor leagues. And I
- 43:14Speaker 4: think there was a little bit of a, I know
- 43:16Speaker 4: there was a little bit of a disconnect.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:18Speaker 1: And Justin Crawford's going to have to get better too.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I know he was just a rookie last year, but
- 43:22Speaker 1: they gave him 465 plate appearances. He didn't hit much.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And that's going from, that is your classic case though, Kratz.
- 43:29Speaker 1: That is someone you see all the way through and say, okay,
- 43:31Speaker 1: he's going from minors and then up to the show
- 43:34Speaker 1: with the development look like versus signing a Trey Turner.
- 43:36Speaker 1: He's already got his, his shtick down.
- 43:40Speaker 4: And it's learning. He learned in the big leagues. Todd
- 43:42Speaker 4: had to learn in the big leagues because he had
- 43:44Speaker 4: a lot of success in the minor leagues. And it's
- 43:48Speaker 4: a whole development process from top to bottom.
- 43:53Speaker 1: And then there was one else.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 43:56Speaker 1: So you have tonight, today's Friday. If you're listening to
- 43:58Speaker 1: this later on, it's Friday. Okay. 8 o'clock Eastern is
- 44:02Speaker 1: ALCS game four. And then Todd Father, they play another
- 44:06Speaker 1: one on Saturday. Off day, if needed to continue the series,
- 44:11Speaker 1: would be game six on Monday and game seven on Tuesday.
- 44:14Speaker 1: And this is a SeatGeek segment, so make sure you
- 44:16Speaker 1: get your seats there. Especially in Tampa, where you definitely
- 44:19Speaker 1: are able to get some pretty sweet seats in St.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Petersburg at the Trop. For a good price on SeatGeek.
- 44:26Speaker 1: But if you're a Rays fan and you want to
- 44:28Speaker 1: see what the boys are doing, at that point you'd
- 44:30Speaker 1: be at a Game 6 or a Game 7, so
- 44:31Speaker 1: it would be fun. But this series gets center stage,
- 44:34Speaker 1: and these are not big market teams for you, Toddfather.
- 44:38Speaker 1: But these are teams that have a history of not
- 44:41Speaker 1: putting a World Series title on their resume, right? Guardians
- 44:45Speaker 1: haven't done it since 1948, and the Rays have never
- 44:47Speaker 1: done it.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this is the weekend of Ohio, I think,
- 44:52Speaker 2: what Frenchy said. So, I mean, there's an.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Opportunity to get tickets to go see the Guardians play,
- 44:58Speaker 3: which is absolutely fantastic. Those guys have been incredible. Then
- 45:01Speaker 3: you're going to go see the Hoosiers. I think the
- 45:04Speaker 3: Hoosiers are first, excuse me. Then you're going to go
- 45:07Speaker 3: get on SeatGeek and get tickets to both of those,
- 45:10Speaker 3: and you're going to save some money doing it. And
- 45:12Speaker 3: then you go see the Browns if you want to. So,
- 45:14Speaker 3: it's a trifecta over there. So, Get on SeatGeek and
- 45:19Speaker 3: find that green, baby. Look for the green color.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Indiana, playing Ohio State.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Oh, right, right.
- 45:27Speaker 1: But if you're in Ohio, you care about Ohio State.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you get to... I miss said that. It's in Ohio,
- 45:34Speaker 2: of course. Right, right, right.
- 45:35Speaker 1: No, I got you. So yeah, you can do whatever
- 45:38Speaker 1: it is, the trifecta. You can do that in Milwaukee, too,
- 45:42Speaker 1: for the opener with the Bucs next Friday, basketball-wise, and
- 45:46Speaker 1: then Go to that, followed by the World Series. That's
- 45:49Speaker 1: pretty fun.
- 45:51Speaker 2: What a weekend.
- 45:52Speaker 4: What a weekend. And it's all on SeatGeek. Easy peasy,
- 45:55Speaker 4: lemon squeezy.
- 45:58Speaker 1: The code TERRITORY10, 10% off tickets on SeatGeek. And if
- 46:03Speaker 1: you're listening to this and you're not in Milwaukee, Cleveland,
- 46:06Speaker 1: or the Tampa area, then there are other things you
- 46:09Speaker 1: can do. It might be a while until baseball is
- 46:12Speaker 1: back in your city. So there are other sports, there
- 46:15Speaker 1: are concerts, the whole deal. Go check it out. If
- 46:18Speaker 1: you do use that code or you do activate that
- 46:21Speaker 1: code but don't want to use it yet, you can
- 46:23Speaker 1: do that. You can click the link in the description
- 46:25Speaker 1: of the episode, keep it, and then use it a
- 46:28Speaker 1: little bit later when you want to buy some seats. Hey,
- 46:32Speaker 1: teams do their end-of-season pressures as they get knocked out.
- 46:36Speaker 1: We had AJ Preller just deliver his about 24 hours ago,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and there wasn't anything standout to me. Kratz, I just
- 46:43Speaker 1: saw him talk about some of the free agents and
- 46:45Speaker 1: how they want him back. So just your classic, yeah,
- 46:47Speaker 1: Morjon would be nice. I remember Tatis was telling him
- 46:51Speaker 1: in the clubhouse, you better keep this man. Michael King,
- 46:54Speaker 1: Ty France, who had a great year. And Nick Pavetta, too,
- 46:58Speaker 1: I think can opt out.
- 47:01Speaker 7: He can.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah. Cool. Got it.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Do they even try what's going on with this lockout, man?
- 47:12Speaker 2: It's crazy. I don't know what's going to happen.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Yeah, of course you try.
- 47:15Speaker 2: You got November.
- 47:16Speaker 1: You do it in November. Do your biz in November
- 47:18Speaker 1: and then you wake back up in, I don't know,
- 47:21Speaker 1: April when they let you do things again.
- 47:26Speaker 4: The other year, I forget who it was said it like,
- 47:28Speaker 4: we haven't had our budget conversations yet. That's a lie.
- 47:33Speaker 4: Everybody's had the conversations or you ain't spending any money,
- 47:36Speaker 4: but Pavetta? To me, Michael King's. Michael King's the guy.
- 47:42Speaker 4: He's got the player option. He came in on three years, 75.
- 47:49Speaker 4: What he did, the fact that he was out there,
- 47:51Speaker 4: made 32 starts this year with a 3-2 ERA. I
- 47:58Speaker 4: think some of these guys are pricing themselves out of
- 48:00Speaker 4: San Diego unless San Diego is able to shift some
- 48:04Speaker 4: of that. Morihone, I don't see how Morihone's back. I
- 48:07Speaker 4: don't see it. I just think there's a lot of
- 48:11Speaker 4: cash that's going to be. I think somebody is going
- 48:13Speaker 4: to go closer money for more at home. And I
- 48:16Speaker 4: don't know that the Padres maybe with new ownership, ownership,
- 48:20Speaker 4: but man, you can't lose that piece of that or
- 48:24Speaker 4: Michael King.
- 48:25Speaker 5: I mean, I am the guy who argued with an
- 48:27Speaker 5: umpire at first base and allowed two runs to score
- 48:29Speaker 5: during a big league game.
- 48:33Speaker 7: That's right. There's always drawbacks.
- 48:36Speaker 5: There's always stumbles along the way. So, you know, I
- 48:39Speaker 5: think early on what I learned was, you know, after
- 48:43Speaker 5: that conversation, I started to pay attention a little bit
- 48:46Speaker 5: to how I reacted to every umpire's call. You know,
- 48:49Speaker 5: whereas previously, if I thought a pitch was close and
- 48:51Speaker 5: I didn't get the call, I'd become a little unnerved
- 48:53Speaker 5: out there. Becoming more accepting of your fate a little bit,
- 48:58Speaker 5: of staying in the present and not worrying about other
- 49:02Speaker 5: people's jobs around you. Just stay on your job. Stay
- 49:05Speaker 5: in the moment where your feet are, to use an
- 49:07Speaker 5: old expression. That's the quest for me, was learning how
- 49:12Speaker 5: to do that. As I said, you're going to fall
- 49:15Speaker 5: off the cliff here and there. You're going to have meltdowns,
- 49:17Speaker 5: but when you do, you get it back quicker now
- 49:19Speaker 5: because you're more self-aware.
- 49:22Speaker 1: That's David Cohen on Dirt from the Dugout, Carl Ravitch's show,
- 49:26Speaker 1: focusing on some youth sports topics, some younger player topics,
- 49:29Speaker 1: but then also just getting into the nitty-gritty of the guest.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And there's been some really good ones, and you've come
- 49:34Speaker 1: across them quite a bit, I'm sure, Todd Father.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Way too many it's travel baseball has been absolutely not
- 49:44Speaker 3: what i expected when i first came in and it's
- 49:47Speaker 3: uh it gets easier when they get to the big
- 49:50Speaker 3: field i think when on the smaller field it is
- 49:52Speaker 3: an absolute shit show for a better lack of better
- 49:55Speaker 3: words it's insanity and you didn't have it right well
- 50:00Speaker 3: you didn't have i'm talking about now no you played two.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Games on sundays that was it and now Oh, my
- 50:07Speaker 2: God almighty. It's nuts.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Everybody thinks their kid's going to be, you know, the
- 50:14Speaker 3: next big leader because they throw a certain amount of
- 50:16Speaker 3: miles per hour off the mound. And it's just crazy, bro. Oh,
- 50:20Speaker 3: my kid hit 100 home runs. My kid hit 100
- 50:23Speaker 3: home runs in a year. Well, look at the bat
- 50:25Speaker 3: you're using for one. Everybody can hit a home run
- 50:28Speaker 3: with the bats they're using. Wait till you get to
- 50:31Speaker 3: the big field where the playing field evens out a
- 50:33Speaker 3: little bit. And I'm sitting back like, yeah, I don't
- 50:36Speaker 3: know what to tell you, man.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Good luck, you know?
- 50:39Speaker 1: It's Todd's fault, though, Kratz, because decades back, you're watching
- 50:45Speaker 1: a Little League World Series legend, and you're like, wait,
- 50:49Speaker 1: that dude made it to the big leagues, so this
- 50:51Speaker 1: is how it works. Play well as a kid, and
- 50:53Speaker 1: you'll make it.
- 50:55Speaker 3: There's a lot that had to happen there, and the
- 50:56Speaker 3: bats were totally different. They were skinny, and it's just, Kratzy,
- 51:01Speaker 3: you know. You see, the bigger field, it's a game changer.
- 51:04Speaker 2: It separates everybody.
- 51:05Speaker 7: Oh, my gosh.
- 51:07Speaker 4: You have to be able to hit your cutoff. You
- 51:08Speaker 4: have to do, like, little things.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Little things, yes.
- 51:11Speaker 4: Just to make a regular play.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Whoa.
- 51:28Speaker 4: New slab hands.
- 51:29Speaker 1: You're slap with some playoff action to it. Some of
- 51:33Speaker 1: the playoff.
- 51:33Speaker 4: Deucer lady thrown in the gnats there at the end.
- 51:37Speaker 4: I love that.
- 51:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 1: A little bit of a different sound too. We like it.
- 51:42Speaker 1: We like it. Hey, with the last couple of minutes
- 51:45Speaker 1: that we have, um, actually the two rays related things.
- 51:49Speaker 1: One is MLB trade rumors. And I don't remember somebody,
- 51:51Speaker 1: I guess, put it out who, um, we'll give them
- 51:54Speaker 1: credit maybe on Monday. Uh, Mariners interested in Rocco Baldelli.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Remember Rocco? Former race player, by the way. But the
- 52:02Speaker 1: Mariners are talking to everyone, so I'll take it with
- 52:04Speaker 1: a grain of salt until I learn more there. And
- 52:06Speaker 1: then I was looking at this tweet yesterday from David Adler,
- 52:09Speaker 1: who works for the StatCast team with MLB, and he
- 52:13Speaker 1: was pointing to Yandy Diaz and how he just refuses
- 52:19Speaker 1: to challenge anything. Have you guys seen this? Yandy Diaz
- 52:26Speaker 1: hasn't challenged a pitch the entire season.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 52:30Speaker 1: I guess there's been a lot of potential chances for
- 52:32Speaker 1: him to do it. I think the number I'm seeing
- 52:34Speaker 1: here is 55 times that he's had a missed call
- 52:38Speaker 1: that he could have challenged. So does he know that
- 52:42Speaker 1: there's a challenge system this year? Did anyone tell him
- 52:44Speaker 1: about it?
- 52:45Speaker 2: No, he does. He doesn't.
- 52:47Speaker 3: I think he said something along the lines is he
- 52:49Speaker 3: doesn't want to embarrass the umpire and embarrass himself, something
- 52:52Speaker 3: along those lines. And he's just, he's okay with it.
- 52:55Speaker 3: And that's just what you got to deal with. But
- 52:58Speaker 3: I got a feeling there's going to be one that
- 53:00Speaker 3: he's going to have to do, especially when, when or
- 53:04Speaker 3: go home.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 53:07Speaker 1: You can't worry about umpires feelings on a missed call
- 53:10Speaker 1: one time.
- 53:11Speaker 6: Yandy.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Come on. It could cost you a game.
- 53:16Speaker 4: He can't lift his arm. You see how big his
- 53:18Speaker 4: arm is. He can't get it to his hat. So
- 53:19Speaker 4: he's going to be like, he's gonna be like, I want,
- 53:23Speaker 4: this is my challenge call. I can't.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Oh, dude, he get there.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Got to bring the neck down to the biceps. Well,
- 53:31Speaker 1: you can boost what you're doing if it's the same
- 53:34Speaker 1: game parlay that qualifies. You can use that token inside
