Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: All right, fellas, all right, tonight, we're watching Irreversible. This
- 0:23Speaker 1: is a night two of our bummer movie marathon. So
- 0:30Speaker 1: the movie Irreversible came out in two thousand and two.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It's somewhat of a rape revenge movie that's shown in
- 0:36Speaker 1: reverse order, and it was inspired by the success of
- 0:41Speaker 1: Christopher Nolan's movie Memento that came out in two thousand.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So we saw that Gaspernoe and he's just like, fuck, yeah,
- 0:49Speaker 1: I want some of that money, break me off a
- 0:53Speaker 1: piece of act and so he decided to make this
- 0:59Speaker 1: movie Irreversible. He made it with Monica Balucci and Vincent Cassel.
- 1:05Speaker 1: They met Gaspernoue from partying. I guess they were in
- 1:08Speaker 1: France partying. I'm assuming these guys are speaking French. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: can understand what the fuck they were saying in this
- 1:13Speaker 1: whole damn movie. And it didn't help because the version
- 1:17Speaker 1: that I was watching this, I feel like the subtitles
- 1:20Speaker 1: had to have been off because they'd be saying shit,
- 1:22Speaker 1: and the subtitles would be like saying, you know, I
- 1:25Speaker 1: don't know. I was like, wait, what the fuck's going on?
- 1:28Speaker 1: So if whenever we get into spoilers, if I got
- 1:31Speaker 1: this whole thing wrong, and I didn't understand what was
- 1:34Speaker 1: going on at all. That's why. So this is like
- 1:37Speaker 1: the third version of the movie, the Midnight Movie Theater
- 1:41Speaker 1: interpreted version, where everything's mixed up in the subtitles don't
- 1:46Speaker 1: matter because in twenty twenty three version of the movie
- 1:52Speaker 1: came out that was called Irreversible straight Cut, and it
- 1:55Speaker 1: shows the movie from beginning to end in chronological order
- 1:59Speaker 1: instead of the end to the beginning of the story,
- 2:03Speaker 1: which is how we see it in the regular version
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the movie Irreversible. So this is this is a
- 2:11Speaker 1: tough one. I'm just gonna go ahead and let you
- 2:13Speaker 1: guys know right now. This is this is a big
- 2:16Speaker 1: time rape movie, probably one of the rapist rape movies
- 2:24Speaker 1: I've ever seen in my life. And I kind of
- 2:28Speaker 1: had that. I kind of knew about that going into it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You know. But we've watched some rape revenge movies on
- 2:34Speaker 1: this show before. We just watched Late Night Trains, we
- 2:38Speaker 1: watched Miz forty five, we watched the movie Revenge. I'm
- 2:41Speaker 1: I can't remember if there were any more. There might
- 2:44Speaker 1: have been some more movies that were, you know, rape
- 2:47Speaker 1: revenge type of movies. This is the winner so far.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And I don't know if you want to be the
- 2:52Speaker 1: winner of that category, but goddamn, irreversible, you won. I
- 2:58Speaker 1: don't know if that's something to cheer for. Get a
- 3:00Speaker 1: round of applause for that. I guess you do tonight.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I guess you do on my show. I don't know.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I don't know. But anyway, so this is one of
- 3:10Speaker 1: those it's gonna be one of those episodes where it's like,
- 3:13Speaker 1: as I'm writing these, I'm thinking of, you know, maybe
- 3:17Speaker 1: a clever joke here and there. There was I came
- 3:21Speaker 1: up with one, and I elected not to do it,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but I'll go ahead and tell you guys, and you
- 3:26Speaker 1: let me know if you think it's a good I
- 3:28Speaker 1: think it just would have been too much. I was
- 3:30Speaker 1: gonna kick the show off regular, like, you know, do
- 3:32Speaker 1: a little intro, talk to you guys a little bit
- 3:35Speaker 1: about what we're getting into, and then there was going
- 3:37Speaker 1: to be a doorbell ring, you know, in the background,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and I was gonna be like, oh, who could that be?
- 3:42Speaker 1: And then I go and answer the door, you know,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and you guys are hearing this. It's a whole bit
- 3:46Speaker 1: that that I was gonna have pre recorded and then
- 3:50Speaker 1: and then you were going to hear me get raped
- 3:52Speaker 1: for nine minutes. Yeah, that's uh, that was the that
- 4:03Speaker 1: was the bit that I came up with that. I
- 4:05Speaker 1: just was like, you know what, maybe we'll pass on
- 4:08Speaker 1: that one today. I just don't know if I could. Uh,
- 4:15Speaker 1: I don't know how they did this. So there's a
- 4:17Speaker 1: nine minute long rape scene in this movie. We'll get
- 4:20Speaker 1: to it in the spoilers. We'll get to it, but
- 4:24Speaker 1: it goes on for nine minutes. There's no cuts. The
- 4:27Speaker 1: camera just stays right there and holds completely still, and
- 4:32Speaker 1: you just sit there for the whole nine minutes and
- 4:35Speaker 1: watch Monica Balucci get raped in a subway like a
- 4:42Speaker 1: subway tunnel or something. It's pretty Uh, it's a pretty
- 4:50Speaker 1: ugly scene. I'll say that, but I don't think I
- 4:53Speaker 1: could do that. So hats off to Monica Balucci for
- 4:56Speaker 1: being able to do that scene. Apparently they they I
- 4:59Speaker 1: think they filmed it it six times over two days.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So I couldn't even do it one time for this episode,
- 5:06Speaker 1: just just an audio version of it, not even actually
- 5:10Speaker 1: seeing it happen. I couldn't. I was like, no, I
- 5:12Speaker 1: don't think I could do that. I don't think I
- 5:14Speaker 1: could sit here for nine minutes and make the make
- 5:17Speaker 1: noises like I'm getting raped for that long. Just just
- 5:21Speaker 1: one of those things. I just don't have it in me.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I guess, you know, maybe I'm just not cut out
- 5:26Speaker 1: to be an actor in a gasp Reno film. The
- 5:30Speaker 1: only other gasp rene film I've seen. He clearly has
- 5:33Speaker 1: like a very distinct style of just like kind of
- 5:36Speaker 1: artsy kind of yeah, like art house. I don't know,
- 5:40Speaker 1: experimental movies, I guess you'd say there. The first one
- 5:43Speaker 1: I saw was Climax, and this would be the second
- 5:46Speaker 1: one now. But I enjoyed Climax for the most part.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I you know, there were moments of it that I
- 5:52Speaker 1: just cauldn't really get into. But it has one of
- 5:55Speaker 1: the greatest dance sequences that I've ever seen in a movie.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It's about this dance troop that kind of gets locked
- 6:02Speaker 1: in excuse me to this, uh, I don't know what,
- 6:07Speaker 1: like an audition type of thing or something like that.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They're in this big fucking place that they're going to
- 6:13Speaker 1: be staying the night in, and then they just start
- 6:17Speaker 1: getting drugged and stuff and doing all sorts of crazy shit.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But that movie had some moments in it that I
- 6:22Speaker 1: felt like we're probably very gasped or no a esh
- 6:25Speaker 1: that I just was kind of like, ah, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I could take it or leave it at this point.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I think it's mostly the scene. What there's like a
- 6:32Speaker 1: scene that goes on for what feels like forever where
- 6:34Speaker 1: it's just them talking and they're just kind of bouncing
- 6:37Speaker 1: around the room and you're listening into like everyone's conversation.
- 6:42Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting. It's a it's kind of an
- 6:45Speaker 1: interesting way to show you, like everyone's state of mind
- 6:49Speaker 1: because before that you just see them all dancing and
- 6:51Speaker 1: having a great time and doing this really awesome, like
- 6:54Speaker 1: choreographed dance sequence, and then you kind of get to
- 6:57Speaker 1: see like who they are as people through these through conversations,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and you know what, it is pretty good, actually pretty
- 7:03Speaker 1: fucking smart way to do that. So yeah, So I
- 7:11Speaker 1: don't know, we'll see, Maybe we'll watch some more Gaspnoe
- 7:13Speaker 1: films later on in life. Probably not gonna watch this
- 7:17Speaker 1: movie again for a while. I'm sure I'll be saying
- 7:19Speaker 1: that again and again throughout the episode. So this movie,
- 7:22Speaker 1: it was influenced by several movies, one of them being
- 7:26Speaker 1: a movie called Betrayal, which I haven't seen, but apparently
- 7:29Speaker 1: that movie is in reverse chronological order as well. And
- 7:35Speaker 1: the idea was that he was going to try to
- 7:38Speaker 1: remake that movie Betrayal, but he couldn't get the rights
- 7:41Speaker 1: to the movie, so they ended up with this idea.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So it was also inspired by a movie called In
- 7:46Speaker 1: the Realm of the Senses, which I've heard about, and
- 7:50Speaker 1: that is a movie that had I know, it has
- 7:52Speaker 1: like real sex scenes in it, and that seems to
- 7:54Speaker 1: be something that he was wanting to do, Like when
- 7:56Speaker 1: he met Monica Blucci and Vincent Cassell and he was
- 7:59Speaker 1: talking to them, he was trying to get them to
- 8:01Speaker 1: do a movie like that with like some real, real
- 8:04Speaker 1: sex scenes where they're going to be fucking and stuff
- 8:07Speaker 1: like that. And they were a couple at the time.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I don't know, I can't remember if they were married
- 8:10Speaker 1: or not, but they were a couple and that's what
- 8:14Speaker 1: he wanted. But they turned it down after a while
- 8:16Speaker 1: after him showing I guess some ideas of what he
- 8:19Speaker 1: had for the movie, and they're like, you know what,
- 8:22Speaker 1: let's try a different one, but how about let's see
- 8:24Speaker 1: what you got next. And he's like, well, next I
- 8:26Speaker 1: have this movie, this idea about a movie called Irreversible.
- 8:31Speaker 1: It's a rape movie, and they were like, hell yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: sounds pretty good. So I guess it's also inspired by
- 8:39Speaker 1: I Am Cuba, A Clockwork, Orange straw Dogs, Deliverance, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: Death Witch, which I can see a little bit of
- 8:47Speaker 1: each one of those in this movie. You can kind
- 8:49Speaker 1: of get a feel that that makes sense why this
- 8:52Speaker 1: movie was inspired by all of those movies. So let's
- 8:56Speaker 1: go ahead and get into the damn spoilers. So when
- 9:04Speaker 1: the opening credits hit, everything is written in like the
- 9:08Speaker 1: corn font so I thought was pretty cool. I like,
- 9:14Speaker 1: every third letter is backwards, and I was like, damn,
- 9:17Speaker 1: this mofucker must be a freak on a leak, and
- 9:22Speaker 1: I was getting freaked out by it, honestly, cause I
- 9:25Speaker 1: was when I was growing up. I was scared of corn.
- 9:31Speaker 1: What do you want me to say? I was scared
- 9:33Speaker 1: of them. They had dreadlocks, scary Oakley's and Adidas suits on.
- 9:38Speaker 1: What's scarier than that? So then, like the row of credits,
- 9:44Speaker 1: they start tilting. We see a picture that's slightly spinning around,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and then a bunch of flashing names pop up that
- 9:50Speaker 1: are like blinking lights. I can't imagine a single epileptic
- 9:54Speaker 1: person has been able to watch this goddamn entire movie.
- 9:59Speaker 1: There's the other parts like this too that are way worse.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So if you're epileptic, do not watch the movie Irreversible.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You will be freaking the fuck out. So this movie
- 10:09Speaker 1: kicks in and it's pretty dark. You can kind of
- 10:11Speaker 1: see like a light flickering on in the outside of
- 10:13Speaker 1: a brick building. The camera is just kind of flopping
- 10:17Speaker 1: all around over the place. It's like spinning around, twisting
- 10:20Speaker 1: all doing all these little jigjag angles. It's crazy. You
- 10:24Speaker 1: can see that there's a police or like an ambulance
- 10:27Speaker 1: light flashing nearby. Now we're inside a building looking at
- 10:31Speaker 1: an old naked dude. He's just kind of sitting on
- 10:33Speaker 1: a bed next to some other guy and he's telling
- 10:36Speaker 1: this guy, uh, time ruins everything. And then he starts
- 10:41Speaker 1: telling that guy that he spent some time in prison
- 10:44Speaker 1: because he raped his daughter fucking kidding me. And then
- 10:51Speaker 1: they both just kind of talk about this like it's
- 10:53Speaker 1: no big deal and how they're going to start living
- 10:55Speaker 1: their lives and stuff like that. They're just like, yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and now it's time to get on with our lives
- 11:00Speaker 1: or something. After I did that, Holy fuck, we hear
- 11:04Speaker 1: more sirens and then the camera moves outside to this
- 11:07Speaker 1: club downstairs called Rectum.
- 11:10Speaker 2: What what what?
- 11:14Speaker 1: You shouldn't be allowed to call your club Rectum, no
- 11:18Speaker 1: matter what's going on in there. There's one guy that's
- 11:21Speaker 1: being brought out on a stretcher. This is Marcus, who's
- 11:26Speaker 1: one of our main characters, and we hear someone yelling
- 11:28Speaker 1: about how they need their money. I don't know what
- 11:30Speaker 1: was going on, but it's just like a lot of chaos,
- 11:33Speaker 1: a lot of people yelling. There's other guys getting arrested,
- 11:36Speaker 1: and they're just like, I hope you got fucked in
- 11:38Speaker 1: the ass in prison. They're like yelling at him, and shit,
- 11:41Speaker 1: I don't know, we don't know what's going on yet.
- 11:43Speaker 1: We're just like getting thrown right into the mix. Like
- 11:45Speaker 1: I said, this is the end of the story that
- 11:48Speaker 1: we're seeing right now. This is how it concludes. And
- 11:52Speaker 1: then they yeah, they're just like, hope you get fucked
- 11:53Speaker 1: in the ass in prison and get AIDS. So they
- 11:57Speaker 1: really don't like this guy, I guess. So this whole time,
- 12:00Speaker 1: the camera is doing the craziest shit. It's flipping, it's
- 12:03Speaker 1: still spinning and stuff. It's very jarring, and it's moving
- 12:07Speaker 1: us around kind of like from scene to scene. It
- 12:09Speaker 1: feels like sometimes it feels like we're on a roller
- 12:12Speaker 1: coaster track, like it's just kind of like really dragging
- 12:15Speaker 1: and then it'll pick up speed. It's a lot, I
- 12:18Speaker 1: will say that just that alone is a lot. I
- 12:21Speaker 1: think that's one thing that was fucking people up about
- 12:23Speaker 1: this movie. I was reading that at the Cans Film
- 12:25Speaker 1: Festival premiere. Reportedly over like two hundred people walked out
- 12:29Speaker 1: of this movie. And I don't think it's only because
- 12:32Speaker 1: of the roller coaster track camera, but I could see
- 12:35Speaker 1: why that would throw some people off for sure. So
- 12:37Speaker 1: now we're in this room with like a red light flickering,
- 12:40Speaker 1: the camera is still just going fucking nuts. Occasionally you
- 12:42Speaker 1: get a glimpse of some dudes like burning each other
- 12:45Speaker 1: with hot wax and having sex with each other or
- 12:48Speaker 1: beating off. Yeah, so I guess we're inside the rectum
- 13:00Speaker 1: the club, the rectum, not the actual person's rectum. They're
- 13:07Speaker 1: not inside of someone's colonoscopy right now, don't worry, guys. So, yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 1: this guy that we saw getting brought out on the
- 13:17Speaker 1: stretcher he's walking around the rectum asking for someone named
- 13:20Speaker 1: the Tapeworm. He's just like, where's the tapeworm? Tell me,
- 13:23Speaker 1: where's the tapeworm? Show him to me or something like that.
- 13:26Speaker 1: And we see the guy that was in uh or Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 1: we see this guy Marcus, who is the guy in
- 13:32Speaker 1: the ambulance. He's talking to some dudes. He's basically just
- 13:34Speaker 1: going around this club asking everyone he can if they
- 13:38Speaker 1: know where this some man whose nickname is the Tapeworm is.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So he's walking around asking all these people at the
- 13:45Speaker 1: sex club. No one's really answering him. They're just kind
- 13:48Speaker 1: of like jacking off the whole time or butt fudging
- 13:51Speaker 1: each other. That's it's a lot, I'll tell you. They're
- 13:56Speaker 1: really seriously jacking it in there, and it's not shining
- 14:01Speaker 1: away from it at all. There's like a guy like, h, well,
- 14:06Speaker 1: we'll just keep talking about the movie and what's going on,
- 14:08Speaker 1: because there's more. There's more criminal activity going on in
- 14:12Speaker 1: this club that we're about to get into the last
- 14:20Speaker 1: place that anybody needs to be, is what I'm gonna say.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So anyway, he's getting further down into this club basement
- 14:26Speaker 1: and it's starting to feel pretty claustrophobic. The camera is
- 14:29Speaker 1: just kind of like tightening in on the shots. The
- 14:31Speaker 1: ceilings feel shorter, the walls feel closer. It's just it's
- 14:34Speaker 1: not a good vibe, I'll say that. And this this
- 14:37Speaker 1: dude's like trying to stop him. He's like, hey, don't
- 14:39Speaker 1: worry about the tape for him. Why don't you just
- 14:41Speaker 1: stay over here and fist me instead?
- 14:44Speaker 2: What?
- 14:46Speaker 1: What? Yeah? This guy's like hanging in like a swing
- 14:49Speaker 1: with his ass out, just like fingering the fuckhead of
- 14:53Speaker 1: his ass. What what? Like what It's like he's trying
- 14:59Speaker 1: to fis himself, it seems like, but he's just like
- 15:02Speaker 1: holding up Marcus. He's like, way, no, stop, you need
- 15:04Speaker 1: to fist me. Fist me now. Marcus is just kind
- 15:08Speaker 1: of like, hey, get away from me. You know. When
- 15:10Speaker 1: this guy's getting really aggressive about it, he's like he's
- 15:13Speaker 1: like playing defense on him in a game of street ball.
- 15:15Speaker 1: He's like, oh, fist me, fist me, come on, fist
- 15:18Speaker 1: me the ball. And then it just keeps escalating and
- 15:23Speaker 1: Marcus grabs the guy in a headlock and starts threatening
- 15:26Speaker 1: to beat him with this like glass bottle, like a
- 15:28Speaker 1: beer bottle or something, and the guy is still trying
- 15:31Speaker 1: to get fisted while Marcus is beating him up. He's
- 15:35Speaker 1: still just like, oh yeah, no, no, don't punch my head,
- 15:38Speaker 1: punch my asshole, punch your hand up there. I'm not
- 15:46Speaker 1: but that's where I want you to beat that thing up.
- 15:54Speaker 1: But I've had enough of this fucking movie. So he
- 16:00Speaker 1: to this other guy, and I think he's the guy
- 16:03Speaker 1: who is the tapeworm, or at least he thinks he is.
- 16:06Speaker 1: He starts like getting really like worked up about it,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and he's like, are you the tape worm? Youre the
- 16:10Speaker 1: tape worm? But there's like so, like I said, the
- 16:13Speaker 1: fucking captions were not lining up with what was going on,
- 16:16Speaker 1: so I was just assuming what was going on. I
- 16:20Speaker 1: was like, Okay, I guess this must be the tapeworm
- 16:21Speaker 1: because he grabs that bottle busted over this guy's fucking
- 16:25Speaker 1: head and starts trying to fight him. But he quickly
- 16:28Speaker 1: gets beaten up by this guy, and this guy who
- 16:31Speaker 1: he thinks is the tapeworm, breaks his fucking arm in half.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And after he breaks his arm in half, guess what,
- 16:40Speaker 1: he starts trying to rape his buttthole. So okay, enough
- 16:47Speaker 1: is enough. So the guy that we saw being arrested.
- 16:51Speaker 1: This guy's name is Pierre, who he is with Marcus.
- 16:54Speaker 1: He's just kind of been like quietly following him around
- 16:57Speaker 1: this whole time. He grabs are extinguisher and just crushes
- 17:03Speaker 1: the raper's face over and over again until this guy's
- 17:06Speaker 1: face is just completely fucking mush, like there's nothing left
- 17:09Speaker 1: of his face. He just like stands over him and
- 17:13Speaker 1: just crushes him. And it's like one of the scenes
- 17:15Speaker 1: that the camera just focuses on, like really intently, where
- 17:19Speaker 1: it's just like you're just watching this guy get his
- 17:21Speaker 1: face crushed, you know, probably fifteen or twenty times with
- 17:24Speaker 1: the fire extinguisher until there's basically nothing left. And when
- 17:29Speaker 1: I say the raper, I mean the guy that was
- 17:31Speaker 1: getting ready to rape Marcus after he broke his arm,
- 17:34Speaker 1: which is crazy work. What are you guys doing in
- 17:36Speaker 1: this club? Everyone's just kind of standing around watching with
- 17:41Speaker 1: like an amused, kind of like amused look on their faces. Well,
- 17:44Speaker 1: we see one guy in particular that has like a
- 17:46Speaker 1: band aid on his nose who's like smirking while this
- 17:49Speaker 1: is happening, and it's like, what the fuck is that
- 17:52Speaker 1: guy's problem? Somebody needs to lock his ass up. Asap,
- 17:57Speaker 1: the camera starts moving around again. We hear someone asking
- 18:00Speaker 1: where's the Rectum, which is the name of this gay
- 18:02Speaker 1: club that we were just at, and we see that
- 18:04Speaker 1: we've like jumped ahead. It's again it's Marcus pulling up
- 18:08Speaker 1: with the guy that we saw smash the other guy's face, Pierre.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Marcus is trying to find this gay bar, and this
- 18:14Speaker 1: guy is trying to, uh more or less, get him
- 18:16Speaker 1: to calm down, like Pierre is trying to calm him
- 18:18Speaker 1: down the whole time, and Marcus is like, Yeah, if
- 18:22Speaker 1: we use that kind of energy protecting Alex, maybe everything
- 18:25Speaker 1: would still be okay. So we're kind of like at
- 18:28Speaker 1: this point, we don't know what happened to Alex. We
- 18:30Speaker 1: don't even we haven't even met Alex yet in the movie,
- 18:33Speaker 1: but something bad happened to or Okay. So we cut
- 18:36Speaker 1: to a little earlier while while they're in the back
- 18:39Speaker 1: of this taxi cab. There's just a bunch of yelling
- 18:41Speaker 1: about getting to the Rectum, and the driver is telling
- 18:43Speaker 1: them like, hey, you got to get the fuck out
- 18:45Speaker 1: of the cab. I don't know where the fucking rectum is,
- 18:47Speaker 1: motherfucker's He keeps threatening, threatening them with pepper spray, and
- 18:51Speaker 1: then eventually he pulls over. Marcus just yanks him out
- 18:54Speaker 1: of the driver's seat and takes the pepper spray away
- 18:57Speaker 1: from him and sprays the fuck out of the driver
- 18:59Speaker 1: with the pepper spray and steals the taxi. So Marcus
- 19:04Speaker 1: is looking to get some shit done. He's looking for
- 19:06Speaker 1: like quick results. Then we get to an earlier scene
- 19:09Speaker 1: with Marcus and this guy talking to these two other
- 19:12Speaker 1: guys about how how they know Gyelmo Nunez and I'm
- 19:17Speaker 1: not I don't even really remember what any of this means,
- 19:23Speaker 1: but these are these are two like big, like bodyguard
- 19:26Speaker 1: looking guys. I guess they were actually security on the
- 19:29Speaker 1: set of the movie and that's how they got into
- 19:33Speaker 1: the movie. They're actually just like, hey, these guys, they
- 19:35Speaker 1: look like they would be a great fit for the movie.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Get these motherfuckers in there. And I always think stuff
- 19:40Speaker 1: like that's really cool. It's kind of like the Bob
- 19:42Speaker 1: and twin Peaks story, like how he was just like
- 19:45Speaker 1: a set worker and David Lynch is like, get that
- 19:49Speaker 1: motherfucker in the show right now, he's gonna be the
- 19:52Speaker 1: bad guy. So anyway, they're kind of walking around the
- 19:56Speaker 1: streets just like asking prostitutes questions about like how to
- 20:00Speaker 1: find this guy or whatever. We find out that whatever
- 20:03Speaker 1: revenge she's trying to get has uh has to do
- 20:07Speaker 1: with someone that was raped, So we know that much. Yeah,
- 20:10Speaker 1: we know that someone got raped and they're trying to
- 20:13Speaker 1: find out who did it. So there's like this one
- 20:17Speaker 1: hooker that they grab. She says she was there. She's
- 20:21Speaker 1: kind of like beat up looking too, or like she
- 20:23Speaker 1: has like a black eye and a busted lip and
- 20:25Speaker 1: stuff like that. He Marcus is getting like all worked up,
- 20:29Speaker 1: asking her a bunch of questions about what happened, and
- 20:31Speaker 1: then he starts trying to smack her a bunch. I
- 20:34Speaker 1: don't exactly know what's going on, but she pulls up
- 20:37Speaker 1: her dress and shows them that she has a little dick.
- 20:42Speaker 2: What what what? What?
- 20:48Speaker 1: Yeah? And then he pulls a knife on her and
- 20:50Speaker 1: starts asking like what happened and shit, because apparently this
- 20:53Speaker 1: hooker was a room I don't even know. I think
- 20:56Speaker 1: I got this part mixed up, but it sounds like
- 20:58Speaker 1: this hooker was a roommate of whoever they're looking for, maybe,
- 21:02Speaker 1: or like she has a connection to him or something
- 21:05Speaker 1: like that. But before they can get any more answers,
- 21:08Speaker 1: they get run off by a whole gang of hookers
- 21:10Speaker 1: and they jump into the taxi cab that we saw
- 21:12Speaker 1: them in earlier, the guy with the pepper spray. The
- 21:15Speaker 1: next scene is the guy that's been through all of
- 21:17Speaker 1: this with Marcus, being questioned by some police about if
- 21:20Speaker 1: he was quarreling with Marcus. He's like, no, no, me
- 21:23Speaker 1: and Marcus are good. That'll kind of make sense later
- 21:27Speaker 1: on too. Then this cop just kind of takes his
- 21:29Speaker 1: number and lets him go. This is where we see
- 21:32Speaker 1: that two dudes. This is where we see them with
- 21:35Speaker 1: the two dudes that we saw them with earlier, the
- 21:38Speaker 1: two big dudes. This is where they meet them, and
- 21:40Speaker 1: they're basically just like, hey, we can the cops aren't
- 21:42Speaker 1: gonna do anything to help you guys. We can find
- 21:45Speaker 1: the guy that raped Alex and help you guys get revenge.
- 21:48Speaker 1: She's like blood for blood and shit, you know, And
- 21:51Speaker 1: they're like, you know what sounds pretty good. I don't
- 21:54Speaker 1: have anything else to do tonight. Let's go get revenge
- 21:57Speaker 1: on this motherfucker. A little earlier before so that we
- 22:00Speaker 1: see Marcus and his friend Pierre just walking around the
- 22:02Speaker 1: streets partying. When they run into an ambulance loading up
- 22:06Speaker 1: a woman. Marcus hears that a whore was beat and
- 22:09Speaker 1: sees that the woman on the stretcher is Alex. He
- 22:14Speaker 1: immediately bursts into tears and is just repeating her name
- 22:17Speaker 1: over and over again and trying to get to her.
- 22:19Speaker 1: They pull him away and we cut to earlier on
- 22:22Speaker 1: with Alex, and when you see Alex, her face is
- 22:26Speaker 1: just like destroyed. I mean, I'm assuming she's alive, but like, goddamn,
- 22:32Speaker 1: her face just looks like it's been beat to hamburger. Me.
- 22:37Speaker 1: It's pretty bad. She steps out to get a taxi,
- 22:40Speaker 1: so this is earlier on with Alex, but some lady
- 22:43Speaker 1: says something to her and she starts to head down
- 22:45Speaker 1: into this tunnel. It's an underground passage where all the
- 22:48Speaker 1: walls are red, like it's lit and red. Almost right away,
- 22:51Speaker 1: Alex sees the prostitute that we saw earlier with the penis.
- 22:57Speaker 1: She's like getting beat up by this guy with the
- 23:00Speaker 1: tape on his nose from the rectum that was smirking
- 23:03Speaker 1: about the guy getting smashed with the fire extinguisher. So
- 23:06Speaker 1: things are starting to connect right now. This guy just
- 23:09Speaker 1: throws that prostitute down and then starts focusing on Alex.
- 23:13Speaker 1: He grabs her at knife point, and this is it.
- 23:17Speaker 1: This is the rape scene. He rapes her. We see
- 23:20Speaker 1: a guy while this is going on, kind of walk
- 23:23Speaker 1: around the corner in the distance and just like look
- 23:26Speaker 1: for a second and then turn around and leave like nope,
- 23:29Speaker 1: not getting involved. I guess this is the reason why
- 23:32Speaker 1: people recommend not watching this movie. This scene goes on
- 23:37Speaker 1: for so long. Like I said, it's hard. It's hard
- 23:40Speaker 1: to tell how long it goes on for when you're
- 23:42Speaker 1: watching it. Apparently it's nine minutes. It feels like forever,
- 23:46Speaker 1: like you're just sitting there like okay, okay, all right,
- 23:52Speaker 1: that's enough, all right, break it up. And at this
- 23:59Speaker 1: point it's the only time in the movie where the
- 24:02Speaker 1: camera has just held completely still, so the camera is
- 24:05Speaker 1: basically at like ground level. She's being held down and raped,
- 24:10Speaker 1: and it's just like holy fuck. Gasperne said he had
- 24:14Speaker 1: no idea how long the rape scene was going to go, like,
- 24:17Speaker 1: he didn't plan for it to be this long. He
- 24:19Speaker 1: wasn't really sure. He let Monica Balucci determine this, who
- 24:23Speaker 1: essentially directed the scene, and Joe Prestilla, who was a
- 24:28Speaker 1: professional French boxer played her assailant. When I asked directly
- 24:32Speaker 1: why it had to be so long, Noe responded that
- 24:35Speaker 1: that is simply as long as it might last in
- 24:37Speaker 1: real life. Sometimes you hear stories of someone being raped
- 24:39Speaker 1: for half an hour, and it seemed like the normal
- 24:42Speaker 1: timing for a situation like this. So the rape scene
- 24:46Speaker 1: was shot six times over two days, each take being
- 24:48Speaker 1: one shot from a fixed camera. There was no intimacy
- 24:52Speaker 1: coordinator involved, given this profession didn't exist yet. Balucci reportedly
- 24:57Speaker 1: watched the films I Spit on Your Grave and Deliverance
- 24:59Speaker 1: before shooting. That was something that I was I didn't
- 25:02Speaker 1: mention in the opening. I have seen I Spit on
- 25:05Speaker 1: Your Grave, but it was so long ago that I
- 25:07Speaker 1: don't remember almost anything about the movie. Like I remember
- 25:11Speaker 1: we rented it from the video store when I was
- 25:14Speaker 1: like maybe in high school. Honestly, I can't even I
- 25:17Speaker 1: probably was in high school, but I don't think I
- 25:20Speaker 1: was like even sixteen yet, I wouldn't say. It was
- 25:23Speaker 1: probably like a freshman or a sophomore or something like that.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I can't remember anything about that movie. Apparently the rape
- 25:29Speaker 1: scene of that movie is like thirty minutes long. Maybe
- 25:32Speaker 1: that's why I don't remember it. I might have just
- 25:33Speaker 1: fucking blocked that shit out and just said, you know what,
- 25:37Speaker 1: better off without it. Vincent Castle, Monica Blucci's significant other,
- 25:42Speaker 1: said he wanted to be present during the shooting of
- 25:44Speaker 1: the scene as moral support, but Balucci didn't want him there.
- 25:47Speaker 1: According to Castle, she said there was no reason for
- 25:49Speaker 1: him to be there and that it would probably be
- 25:51Speaker 1: harder for her to work if he was, so apparently
- 25:54Speaker 1: he just went off to southwest France and did some surfing,
- 25:57Speaker 1: so honestly, probably for the best. And Balucci has expressed
- 26:05Speaker 1: no issue with filming the rape scenes. She said that
- 26:07Speaker 1: after shooting she would just sit down and have a
- 26:09Speaker 1: cup of coffee and think about something else, which sounds
- 26:13Speaker 1: like the only thing you could do after shooting something
- 26:17Speaker 1: this intense, right, I don't know. It's pretty fucking nuts.
- 26:22Speaker 1: It was shot in a real Paris underpass known to
- 26:25Speaker 1: be frequented by prostitutes, and it's since been destroyed, so
- 26:29Speaker 1: it's not one of those movie set scenes or whatever,
- 26:32Speaker 1: one of those movie locations that you can go and
- 26:34Speaker 1: visit now and take selfie's in and be like, look,
- 26:37Speaker 1: I'm in the tunnel of the movie Irreversible, Look at me.
- 26:42Speaker 1: This is where Monica Blucci had simulated rape for nine minutes. Wow.
- 26:53Speaker 1: So after the scene's done, the guy he gets up.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I guess. The only other thing I read about the scene,
- 27:02Speaker 1: it's not even early worth mentioning he's kind of fucking dumb.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So I was reading the like, in post production there
- 27:08Speaker 1: was like, you know, some post production effects done on
- 27:10Speaker 1: the guy's face that got smashed. The only other post
- 27:13Speaker 1: production effects was you see this guy's wiener, and I
- 27:17Speaker 1: guess it's a digital wiener. I gonna tell there's a
- 27:25Speaker 1: lot of fucking like guys jacking off and stuff in
- 27:28Speaker 1: this movie, so I just assume, like its probably just
- 27:30Speaker 1: his real dick, you know, Like I guess Gaspernoe is
- 27:34Speaker 1: in one of the scenes at the gay club jacking off,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and he did that, as I guess, like a demonstration
- 27:42Speaker 1: to prove that he doesn't have a problem with gay
- 27:44Speaker 1: people or something, because there I don't know some of
- 27:47Speaker 1: the critics. There is one critic that was saying this
- 27:49Speaker 1: movie is like deeply homophobic because the way it portrays
- 27:52Speaker 1: gay people, and he was like, no, it's not. I
- 27:54Speaker 1: was down there jacking it with him. Bud, you think
- 27:59Speaker 1: I'm I'm a homophobe. I was down there jacking it
- 28:02Speaker 1: with the gays. Joke's on you, dumb ass. I love
- 28:08Speaker 1: gay people and jacking off with what that's gonna get
- 28:17Speaker 1: like a sound clipped one day, SoundBite one day. I'm
- 28:21Speaker 1: just me saying that. Hell yeah. So anyway, after the
- 28:27Speaker 1: guy's done doing that, he gets up and he just
- 28:29Speaker 1: starts beating the fuck out of Alex. He just brutalizes her.
- 28:33Speaker 1: He like kicks her face a bunch of times, and
- 28:37Speaker 1: then he gets on top of her and just starts
- 28:39Speaker 1: punching the fuck out of her. And we know this
- 28:42Speaker 1: isn't the guy that got his face smashed at the beginning,
- 28:45Speaker 1: so the revenge was taken out on the wrong guy. Anyway,
- 28:48Speaker 1: it's fucked and yeah, it's the guy that was smirking
- 28:52Speaker 1: while the guy was getting his face smashed. So he's
- 28:54Speaker 1: probably just thinking like I just got away with that shit,
- 28:57Speaker 1: or maybe he's I mean, he's got to be a chopath,
- 29:00Speaker 1: so maybe he just enjoys like any kind of chaos
- 29:04Speaker 1: or violence or whatever. So then we go to before
- 29:08Speaker 1: this and we see Marcus and his friend Pierre they're
- 29:10Speaker 1: kind of partying with these hookers and they're doing cocaine
- 29:14Speaker 1: in a bathroom. Pierre's like, come on, Marcus, you don't
- 29:16Speaker 1: need to be doing this. Don't do this to Alex.
- 29:19Speaker 1: But Marcus kicks Pierre out of the bathroom and just
- 29:21Speaker 1: starts like kissing on these ladies a little bit. He's
- 29:23Speaker 1: like doing drugs with him and kissing him and stuff.
- 29:26Speaker 1: But then he heads out to find Pierre. Pierre is
- 29:28Speaker 1: a little older, and it's just kind of like rejecting
- 29:30Speaker 1: all these women at the party. He's just kind of
- 29:33Speaker 1: like there, you know what I mean. He's like, Nah,
- 29:36Speaker 1: I'm good. You know, I've already done my fair share
- 29:38Speaker 1: of partying. I'm just here for you guys. I'm here
- 29:41Speaker 1: for Alex. I'm here for you, Marcus. So that's all.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I just want to hang out with you, you folks.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And he is just trying to pull Marcus away from
- 29:49Speaker 1: all this and back to Alex. He's like, come on, Bud,
- 29:52Speaker 1: you're with Alex, Go be with her. Quit being a
- 29:54Speaker 1: fucking shit heead, But Marcus is being a shit ed.
- 29:57Speaker 1: He's doing like a college bro thing. Now Pierre turns
- 30:01Speaker 1: the corner and we see Alex just kind of dancing
- 30:03Speaker 1: at this party with some other women, just like casually dancing,
- 30:07Speaker 1: you know. Marcus goes up starts kind of like dancing
- 30:10Speaker 1: around Alex, like in the same area. Alex goes over
- 30:13Speaker 1: to Pierre and starts dancing with him. The whole time,
- 30:15Speaker 1: he's just kind of asking her or not to dance
- 30:17Speaker 1: with him. I think it seems like these two have
- 30:20Speaker 1: known each other for a while, like they talk about
- 30:24Speaker 1: some history that they've had together, or at least like
- 30:26Speaker 1: that's what it seemed like from this scene, and he's
- 30:29Speaker 1: kind of saying stuff like, yeah, you never used to
- 30:31Speaker 1: dance like this, you know, you never used to act
- 30:33Speaker 1: like this, And so that's kind of where we get
- 30:36Speaker 1: these clues of like Pierre and Alex clearly have some history.
- 30:39Speaker 1: At first, I thought they maybe were just like longtime friends.
- 30:42Speaker 1: He looks like older enough to where I was even
- 30:46Speaker 1: thinking like maybe they're I didn't think it was her
- 30:49Speaker 1: dad or anything like that, Like it's not that he's
- 30:52Speaker 1: not that old, but I was thinking like maybe he
- 30:54Speaker 1: was like a mentor or a teacher, you know. I
- 30:58Speaker 1: don't know, it was hard for me to figure this
- 31:00Speaker 1: out right away. They do explain it. Later on, though,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Alex goes upstairs and brings Pierre with her, and she
- 31:06Speaker 1: just kind of talks to a bunch of people up
- 31:08Speaker 1: there and explains that she's at the party with Marcus
- 31:10Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Marcus or no, not Marcus. Alex
- 31:16Speaker 1: is upstairs. Like when she's talking to people, she really
- 31:18Speaker 1: focuses in on this like pregnant lady and starts talking
- 31:21Speaker 1: to her about her pregnancy and her baby and stuff
- 31:23Speaker 1: like that, and seems really interested and talking with this
- 31:27Speaker 1: lady and stuff. So they're kind of hanging off, having
- 31:29Speaker 1: somewhat of a like a private conversation upstairs, like there's
- 31:32Speaker 1: people around, there's still music playing, but they're kind of,
- 31:35Speaker 1: you know, having a one on one. Marcus interrupts the
- 31:38Speaker 1: conversation just by like touching all over Alex and stuff.
- 31:42Speaker 1: He's clearly very fucked up, and she's like, hey, I'm
- 31:44Speaker 1: all good on this party and shit like that. I'm
- 31:47Speaker 1: completely sober right now, and you're all fucked up on
- 31:49Speaker 1: pills and booze and cocaine. And he just keeps acting
- 31:52Speaker 1: like a turd around her, and she's like, all right,
- 31:54Speaker 1: I'm going to go home now. This is too much
- 31:56Speaker 1: for me. She tells Pierre by and starts to head out,
- 32:00Speaker 1: and Pierre kind of tries to leave with her. He's like, hey,
- 32:02Speaker 1: why don't I just go with you? But she's like, no,
- 32:04Speaker 1: can you just stay here and take care of Marcus
- 32:06Speaker 1: and make sure he doesn't do anything fucking stupid and
- 32:08Speaker 1: gets home safe because he's all fucked up. Now we're
- 32:11Speaker 1: at an earlier scene with Marcus, Pierre and Alex. So
- 32:16Speaker 1: the thing after that party scene, you know where that
- 32:19Speaker 1: leads to, like, since we're watching a movie in reverse order,
- 32:22Speaker 1: it's just really, you know, it just keeps getting darker
- 32:27Speaker 1: really where you're just like, oh damn, things could have
- 32:31Speaker 1: turned out so much differently. But anyway, we're at an
- 32:33Speaker 1: earlier scene with Marcus, Pierre and Alex. They're like on
- 32:36Speaker 1: a train. She's telling them about a book she's been reading.
- 32:39Speaker 1: There's some talk about how destiny is predetermined and how
- 32:42Speaker 1: she's been having like all these prophetic dreams and stuff
- 32:45Speaker 1: like that, and they're just kind of listening and throwing
- 32:49Speaker 1: in their two cents every once in a while. Then
- 32:51Speaker 1: the three have about a ten minute conversation about having
- 32:54Speaker 1: sex and coming and stuff like that, and this is
- 32:58Speaker 1: where we find out that Pierre and Alex used to
- 33:00Speaker 1: be together, or at this point I was thinking, like, okay,
- 33:03Speaker 1: at least they used to have sex together. But now
- 33:07Speaker 1: she's with Marcus and they're they're like a threesome of friends,
- 33:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean, they're all three friends now.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It's like, you know what, It's kind of like an
- 33:16Speaker 1: episode of the show Friends. It's kind of what this
- 33:20Speaker 1: movie's turning into right now. If maybe like Pierre is
- 33:24Speaker 1: Ross and you know, Alex is Monitor not Minica Rachel,
- 33:30Speaker 1: and Marcus is Joey. It's kind of like that if
- 33:36Speaker 1: you think about it. The next scene is Marcus and
- 33:38Speaker 1: Alex lying in bed together. Pierre calls and said he's
- 33:41Speaker 1: had some car troubles, so they're gonna have to take
- 33:43Speaker 1: the train or the metro to the party. So that
- 33:49Speaker 1: that's a whole nother thing where it's like, okay, So
- 33:51Speaker 1: that's why Alex ended up going to the underground tunnel
- 33:54Speaker 1: anyway after the party. I guess she could have got
- 33:58Speaker 1: a cab, but I'm not sure what that lady said
- 34:00Speaker 1: to her that made her end up deciding like, oh,
- 34:02Speaker 1: I guess I better go through the tunnel again. She
- 34:05Speaker 1: wakes up and says she had a weird dream she had.
- 34:08Speaker 1: She said she had no feeling in her arms, and
- 34:10Speaker 1: she was walking through a tunnel that was completely red
- 34:14Speaker 1: after the tunnel, after that, the tunnel broke into two pieces,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and then we This is where we find out that
- 34:20Speaker 1: Alex and Pierre were actually married. So they kind of
- 34:25Speaker 1: talk about how like Marcus is kind of complaining. He's like, ah,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I don't want to hang out with your ex husband
- 34:30Speaker 1: and stuff like that, and she's like, why he loves you,
- 34:33Speaker 1: like he wants to be her friend and stuff like that,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and she's like he's like, I know, but God, damn,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I don't want to hang out with his ass though.
- 34:39Speaker 1: God especially like most of the time they're just talking
- 34:42Speaker 1: about coming and stuff and making Alex come and stuff.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just one of those things where
- 34:48Speaker 1: it's like, you know, what, good on these guys for
- 34:52Speaker 1: having these open conversations. I think I would be like, no,
- 34:56Speaker 1: thank you, not tonight.
- 35:00Speaker 2: What.
- 35:02Speaker 1: But I think they're mostly talking about how I mean,
- 35:05Speaker 1: I don't know if this makes it any better or not,
- 35:07Speaker 1: but I think they're mostly talking about how Pierre couldn't
- 35:11Speaker 1: make her come because he was always too focused on
- 35:15Speaker 1: trying to make her come or something like that. Why
- 35:20Speaker 1: doesn't make it any better, to be honest, It's just,
- 35:22Speaker 1: you know, it's just is part of the movie and
- 35:24Speaker 1: the uncomfortability of it all. So Marcus starts bowling raspberries
- 35:29Speaker 1: on her armpits for making him hang out with her
- 35:31Speaker 1: ex husband, and then he kind of starts like spitting
- 35:33Speaker 1: at her, but it's like done in a really playful way.
- 35:35Speaker 1: It's like he's almost like mock spitting at her, I think.
- 35:38Speaker 1: And then there's a pretty long section where they're just
- 35:40Speaker 1: kind of being intimate with each other. Alex asks Marcus
- 35:44Speaker 1: what if I were pregnant at some point, and he says, well,
- 35:48Speaker 1: that wouldn't be so bad, And then she takes a shower.
- 35:51Speaker 1: He goes off to buy a bottle of booze for
- 35:53Speaker 1: the party. One thing that's really noticeable is that the
- 35:57Speaker 1: camera has completely calmed down to just like a normal,
- 36:01Speaker 1: normal angles, a normal pace. Ever since the tunnel scene,
- 36:05Speaker 1: pretty much everything after that has seemed like a normal movie,
- 36:09Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Although this movie is supposed
- 36:12Speaker 1: to look like it's been done in one long shot,
- 36:14Speaker 1: like it's most of the scenes I think they said
- 36:17Speaker 1: the party scene was the hardest one to film and
- 36:19Speaker 1: took like twenty takes or something like that, because they
- 36:23Speaker 1: are doing each section in one long shot. So it
- 36:27Speaker 1: is really an interesting piece of work if you're looking
- 36:31Speaker 1: at it from that point of view, like from just
- 36:33Speaker 1: a filmmaker's point of view or whatever, and a technical
- 36:37Speaker 1: at the technical side of things, it is. It's an
- 36:39Speaker 1: interesting piece of work, right what what? So, after Alex
- 36:46Speaker 1: gets out of the shower and Marcus is off getting
- 36:49Speaker 1: his bottle of booz, she takes a pregnancy test and
- 36:52Speaker 1: finds out that she is pregnant. But this is after
- 36:58Speaker 1: Marcus is gone. You know, she's being lit and red
- 37:01Speaker 1: throughout this scene, so it's all kind of ominous and
- 37:04Speaker 1: maybe foreshadowing and maybe her dreams are telling her you know,
- 37:08Speaker 1: what's to come and stuff like that. Obviously, this makes
- 37:12Speaker 1: everything that happened earlier much heavier as well. And they
- 37:16Speaker 1: don't actually like show you that she's pregnant. They don't
- 37:18Speaker 1: show you the pregnancy test. She never says it out
- 37:20Speaker 1: loud throughout the movie, but her reaction pretty much says
- 37:24Speaker 1: it all like someone who found out that they weren't
- 37:28Speaker 1: pregnant wouldn't react this way. Even if they were happy
- 37:31Speaker 1: about it, they would be I think that's just something
- 37:33Speaker 1: that if you've experienced that, you know what I'm talking about.
- 37:37Speaker 1: This cuts to Alex lying in bed with her hand
- 37:40Speaker 1: on her stomach. The camera pans passed her and are
- 37:44Speaker 1: like up the wall, and we see a poster of
- 37:46Speaker 1: two thousand and one A Space Odyssey. And this was
- 37:48Speaker 1: just a little shout out to Stanley Kubrick, obviously, and
- 37:52Speaker 1: it's the poster that has the picture of the baby
- 37:55Speaker 1: in space on it, so that also is connected with
- 37:58Speaker 1: some of the themes in this movie, obviously if she
- 38:00Speaker 1: is pregnant. Now we're with Alex at a park. The
- 38:03Speaker 1: camera is upside down and she's reading a book called
- 38:06Speaker 1: An Experiment with Time or something like that. I was
- 38:09Speaker 1: trying to read the cover. It's kind of hard to tell,
- 38:11Speaker 1: but I had a feeling, since time is brought up
- 38:15Speaker 1: throughout this movie, it's something like that. There's a bunch
- 38:17Speaker 1: of people laying out on beach towels. There's kids playing
- 38:20Speaker 1: in sprinklers. The grass is very green, and the camera
- 38:24Speaker 1: just kind of flies into the sky at this point,
- 38:27Speaker 1: looks right down on the sprinkler and with like the
- 38:30Speaker 1: kids running through it and just starts spinning out of control.
- 38:33Speaker 1: It just keeps spinning faster and faster, and the camera
- 38:36Speaker 1: starts to fade into this white light that starts strobing
- 38:40Speaker 1: hard as hell, right in my goddamn face. So then
- 38:46Speaker 1: we get a message in French that says time destroys everything,
- 38:50Speaker 1: and then we get the credits. I might look it
- 38:56Speaker 1: up real quick, because in the forward version, the straight verse,
- 39:00Speaker 1: there was a different message that showed up there. Let
- 39:05Speaker 1: me see if it says that real quick. So actually,
- 39:11Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm gonna be able to find
- 39:12Speaker 1: that very quick. Oh wait here it is. Oh it's
- 39:17Speaker 1: right here. Time reveals Everything is what the straight cut
- 39:22Speaker 1: version says, and it still appears at the end of
- 39:32Speaker 1: the movie, but just a little slightly different messages there.
- 39:36Speaker 1: It's still about time obviously, but you know, time reveals everything,
- 39:42Speaker 1: Time destroys everything. So whatever, take that however you want,
- 39:50Speaker 1: I guess. And this is a tough one to rate.
- 39:54Speaker 1: It's a tough watch, for sure. The rape scene is
- 39:57Speaker 1: a lot. But the positive take way is that it
- 40:01Speaker 1: really puts in perspective how ugly the act of rape is.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I can't imagine sitting through that scene. Again, most of
- 40:10Speaker 1: the movies I've watched with rape in it, they usually
- 40:13Speaker 1: cut away or they imply it, and it's still very
- 40:16Speaker 1: effective and impactful. But the way this movie holds on
- 40:20Speaker 1: it for a realistic amount of time is very unsettling.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I don't know how else to say it. So I
- 40:27Speaker 1: get why people were messaging me saying like, hey, you
- 40:31Speaker 1: probably don't even want to watch this fucking movie. You
- 40:33Speaker 1: could probably skip it. You know, that was never my plan.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I'm curious enough. I guess to watch whatever movie as
- 40:41Speaker 1: long as it's a movie. I don't, you know, I
- 40:44Speaker 1: don't really like real stuff. They were saying that, like
- 40:48Speaker 1: the gore scene where the guy gets his face matched
- 40:50Speaker 1: was inspired by like a movie that Gaspernoue had of
- 40:54Speaker 1: like real life death and stuff like that, like people
- 40:57Speaker 1: getting killed for real, and so that's something that I'm not, like,
- 41:02Speaker 1: not real into. Try to avoid that stuff about as
- 41:04Speaker 1: often as I can. It's kind of crazy thinking that,
- 41:07Speaker 1: like nowadays, if you're just on like Facebook or Instagram,
- 41:10Speaker 1: you'll see like faces of death type of shit just
- 41:14Speaker 1: like pop up out of nowhere. You'll just be looking
- 41:17Speaker 1: at like funny reels or something, and then the next
- 41:19Speaker 1: thing you'll see is like a car accident or a shooting,
- 41:23Speaker 1: and it's like, Okay, well that's the not what I
- 41:28Speaker 1: was expecting today. What I didn't think I was going
- 41:32Speaker 1: to see somebody fly through a wind shift today while
- 41:36Speaker 1: I'm you know, just getting my breakfast ready. So anyway,
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'll just go ahead and give this movie three and
- 41:42Speaker 1: a half gay sex dungeons out of five. Probably not
- 41:52Speaker 1: Probably not gonna revisit this one anytime soon. For next week,
- 41:58Speaker 1: we're watching the movie Quilliam for a Dream. I've never
- 42:02Speaker 1: seen this one before, but from what I've read online,
- 42:05Speaker 1: a lot of people were really depressed after watching it
- 42:08Speaker 1: for weeks after watching it, in fact, is what I
- 42:11Speaker 1: was seeing, so wish me luck. Also, it has one
- 42:16Speaker 1: of the greatest actors from the movie Morbius and the
- 42:20Speaker 1: Tron sequel, the recent Tron movie in it the reboot
- 42:24Speaker 1: or whatever, the one and only sex criminal himself, Jared Leto.
- 43:07Speaker 2: No no, no, no no no of of do b
