- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We stop with the Justin Herbert fan fiction every year.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I know, I'm sorry, and Chargers fans, you're gonna get
- 0:34Speaker 3: to be.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Like, we can't just group him into that Big.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Four yet, we can't with Lamar and Burrow and Mahomes
- 0:41Speaker 3: and Allen. You gotta win a playoff game. You have
- 0:44Speaker 3: to show up for a playoff game. All regular season.
- 0:47Speaker 3: We raved about Herbert. Why because he threw three interceptions
- 0:51Speaker 3: all regular season.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Let's see him.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Let's see the three Justin Herbert interceptions. This was against
- 0:56Speaker 3: the Panthers, rolling right across his body.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Great pick there by j. C. Horn. That's gonna happen,
- 1:02Speaker 2: all right.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Here a play action against the Bucks, throws it off
- 1:05Speaker 3: his back.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It's gonna happen. Jamel Dean, get some fine.
- 1:09Speaker 3: The third interception was against the Broncos in a game
- 1:12Speaker 3: they won on Thursday night, and outstanding interception there. And
- 1:16Speaker 3: that was the it for the whole regular season. Three
- 1:19Speaker 3: interceptions a whole year for Justin Herbert, and we're trying
- 1:23Speaker 3: to force him into that conversation with the Big four.
- 1:26Speaker 3: We get to the playoff game. Let's get that little
- 1:28Speaker 3: ticker going. It might as well one.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Okay, off his back foot, across his body. That was one.
- 1:35Speaker 3: This is two overthrows mcconkin, Johnny on the spot right there,
- 1:39Speaker 3: and we know.
- 1:40Speaker 2: What happened after that. Point three.
- 1:43Speaker 3: So now we're at three and maybe you could blame
- 1:45Speaker 3: Dizsley on that. All right, fine, four interceptions in this game.
- 1:51Speaker 2: He threw more interceptions in this.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Game than he did all season long in seventeen starts.
- 1:58Speaker 3: We just started the show talking about how Jaden Daniels
- 2:01Speaker 3: saved his best for last and in the postseason didn't
- 2:03Speaker 3: waiver and was like, I will rise to the occasion,
- 2:06Speaker 3: and Herbert didn't. And now he's zero and two and
- 2:08Speaker 3: after five years not having.
- 2:10Speaker 2: A playoff win. I can't do it.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I can't put him in that conversation with Burrow Lamar
- 2:15Speaker 3: and of course with Maholmes and Allen and I know
- 2:18Speaker 3: that sounds mean, and I'm piling on.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'm not, I'm not.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I think we expect it right here. He's in a
- 2:23Speaker 3: different tier right now. He's in that to a tier,
- 2:25Speaker 3: and he's in that tier of those other guys that
- 2:28Speaker 3: haven't had that playoff success. Three interceptions all year. Four
- 2:31Speaker 3: interceptions in a playoff game gave all the credits to
- 2:34Speaker 3: Houston if we want, and their Houston defense was great.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I would have liked to have seen Justin Herbert elevate
- 2:38Speaker 3: his game. Jayden Daniels is already one of those dudes.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I'm putting him in that conversation. Game is on the line,
- 2:44Speaker 3: two minutes left. You put the ball in his hand.
- 2:46Speaker 3: He's going to put you in position to score. That
- 2:47Speaker 3: final drive was awesome. We know all the back and
- 2:50Speaker 3: forth how they got the ball, but they still have
- 2:52Speaker 3: to move the ball the entire length of the field
- 2:53Speaker 3: and get the into field goal position. And here's Jayden
- 2:56Speaker 3: Daniels just operating. And he did it all season long.
- 3:01Speaker 3: For this guy to be a rookie doing this on
- 3:03Speaker 3: this stage under the lights. In the final game of
- 3:06Speaker 3: the weekend was Miraculos and it was third down passes
- 3:10Speaker 3: to Eckler. On this one, it was the Elijah Kansey
- 3:12Speaker 3: play here where Kansey is like the next Aaron Donald
- 3:16Speaker 3: trying to crosch him and he just outdoes him.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Here. He went twenty four of thirty five.
- 3:22Speaker 3: For two hundred and sixty eight yards in his playoff debut.
- 3:26Speaker 3: The Commanders had no punts on the road in a
- 3:29Speaker 3: playoff game on the lights, and no turnovers on the
- 3:33Speaker 3: road in a playoff game under the lights. He becomes
- 3:35Speaker 3: the first rookie quarterback to win on the road since
- 3:39Speaker 3: twenty twelve in a playoff game, and it becomes the
- 3:42Speaker 3: first rookie quarterback to win on the road against a
- 3:45Speaker 3: non rookie quarterback in Baker Mayfield since two thousand and
- 3:49Speaker 3: nine when Mark Sanchez beat Philip Rivers in San.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Diego in a playoff game.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Jaden Daniels gets the ball and it's within a score
- 3:59Speaker 3: in the final minute.
- 4:00Speaker 2: He did it all season long. Guys.
- 4:01Speaker 3: They won six different games in the final minute of
- 4:05Speaker 3: regulation or to walk off in overtime during the season.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And then Jaden Daniels does it again. He had to
- 4:10Speaker 3: get him all the way downfield and he did it.
- 4:14Speaker 3: They're going to go play Detroit, and I don't think
- 4:17Speaker 3: they know anything other than, hey, we can go do this,
- 4:20Speaker 3: because that's what they've done all season long. Everybody stepped
- 4:24Speaker 3: up and we'll talk about the role players throughout, but
- 4:26Speaker 3: in the biggest moment of the biggest game, it was
- 4:30Speaker 3: Jaden Daniels, who of course came through because that's what
- 4:32Speaker 3: he's done all season long. What a wonderful performance in
- 4:35Speaker 3: the biggest of moments for that guy. I picked the
- 4:38Speaker 3: Packers to go to the super Bowl before the season.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I got this streak that I talked and patted myself
- 4:42Speaker 3: a back. I didn't mention it all last week. I
- 4:44Speaker 3: had zero confidence that the Packers were going to go
- 4:46Speaker 3: into Philly. And I'll tell you what, in the first
- 4:49Speaker 3: second of the game, when you have your part, your
- 4:51Speaker 3: kick returner, Nixon get absolutely blown up, and I thought
- 4:53Speaker 3: maybe they actually retained the ball.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I don't know the rules on this thing. They gave
- 4:56Speaker 2: it to Philly.
- 4:57Speaker 3: That's about as bad an omen for the rest of
- 4:59Speaker 3: the game. That it only got worse from there. You
- 5:01Speaker 3: never felt like Green Bay had a shot against this
- 5:04Speaker 3: Philly defense. They hung Clode, but that Philly was like,
- 5:07Speaker 3: you know what, anytime we need a big play, they
- 5:09Speaker 3: got it.
- 5:10Speaker 2: The interceptions were so huge last night.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Anytime there was momentum or a window, it felt like
- 5:18Speaker 3: Philadelphia had a defensive back, whether it be Darius Slay
- 5:21Speaker 3: or a linebacker, pick off the play and just stop everything.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Zach Bond was everywhere.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I tweeted it last night like he was everywhere, and
- 5:29Speaker 3: he was everything you could want because he was making
- 5:31Speaker 3: special teams plays. But time and time again, it was
- 5:35Speaker 3: just the Philadelphia defense putting an end to this. And
- 5:37Speaker 3: I'll say this, when they needed Jordan Love to make
- 5:40Speaker 3: a play down the stretch to keep this alive. The
- 5:42Speaker 3: three interception time, I thought the most egregious pass was
- 5:45Speaker 3: with the season on the line. Jordan Love goes back
- 5:47Speaker 3: on a fourth down and just airmails it to Malie
- 5:50Speaker 3: Keith and he has to catch it and his foot
- 5:52Speaker 3: is out of bound.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Jordan Love, it was a nightmare for him yesterday.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And that's a zero touchdown, three interception game. And in
- 6:00Speaker 3: this case, you have the season on the line, throws.
- 6:02Speaker 2: It out of bounds.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Look, you've got the varsity and the jv and there's
- 6:07Speaker 3: no shame in being that second tier.
- 6:10Speaker 2: The Eagles are a varsity team.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Their defense led the way, and last night the Packers
- 6:16Speaker 3: showed that they were not a Super Bowl contender. Remember,
- 6:19Speaker 3: swept by the Vikings, swept by the Lions, lost to
- 6:22Speaker 3: the Eagles Week one, and then lost to the Eagles
- 6:24Speaker 3: to book end the season. To end the year, they
- 6:27Speaker 3: weren't one of the elite teams in the NFC, as
- 6:29Speaker 3: much as I tried forcing that to happen all season life.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Each Monday, we declare a Coach of the Week award.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It could be a head coach, it could be a coordinator,
- 6:52Speaker 3: it could be a position coach. This week we are
- 6:54Speaker 3: going to a thirty five year old man who called.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Maybe the game of his life yesterday. That's Joe Brady.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Joe Brady gets Coach of the Week, and he did
- 7:04Speaker 3: it against one of his mentors.
- 7:06Speaker 2: He entered the NFL years ago as.
- 7:08Speaker 3: A quality control coach for the New Orleans Saints, learning
- 7:11Speaker 3: under Sean Payton.
- 7:12Speaker 2: He took a long road, including.
- 7:14Speaker 3: An offensive coordinator gig with LSU, where he was Joe Burrow,
- 7:19Speaker 3: Justin Jefferson and Jamaar Chase's offensive coordinator when they won
- 7:22Speaker 3: the national title. All these years later, he's now in
- 7:25Speaker 3: his second season as offensive coordinator of the Bills, and
- 7:29Speaker 3: they put on an offensive performance that offensive masterminds with
- 7:33Speaker 3: blush at Look at that second column. There seventy two plays,
- 7:39Speaker 3: twenty six pers downs, and then the biggest number that
- 7:42Speaker 3: bottom row ball control forty one minutes of possession in
- 7:48Speaker 3: a playoff game.
- 7:50Speaker 2: That's unheard of. Joe Brady, thirty five.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Years old, not maybe the hottest name and head coaching
- 7:56Speaker 3: circles right now.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I don't know why I'm not running these searches. Maybe
- 8:00Speaker 2: someone should.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Pick up the phone and talk about it and talk
- 8:03Speaker 3: to him.
- 8:04Speaker 2: We'll see as the rest of the playoffs go on.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Joe Brady as masterful and offensive performance and OC had
- 8:09Speaker 3: this week, you get the game Ball and the Coach
- 8:12Speaker 3: of the Week award.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Tak One Barkley.
- 8:15Speaker 3: He went for three hundred yards from scrimmage and I
- 8:17Speaker 3: think he just scored another touchdown from that Week twelve game,
- 8:20Speaker 3: I do. I think he just scored again. It was
- 8:23Speaker 3: unbelievable what he did. And I was in the building.
- 8:25Speaker 3: It was one of those days where I was there
- 8:27Speaker 3: on Sunday and then came to Good Morning Football on
- 8:29Speaker 3: Monday morning, and I have to say, around the third quarter,
- 8:31Speaker 3: you start looking around. When the first play of the
- 8:33Speaker 3: third quarter, Saquon goes, Now this thing's over and there's
- 8:36Speaker 3: still twenty five thirty minutes left to do?
- 8:39Speaker 2: What do we do to finish up the evening?
- 8:40Speaker 3: It was that much of a blowout, and yet the
- 8:42Speaker 3: Rams look like they are different than they were, then
- 8:45Speaker 3: that's not my concern.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It's not so.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Much that Saquon's going to be doing backwards jumps over them.
- 8:50Speaker 2: My concern is.
- 8:51Speaker 3: That the Rams just gave out every piece of emotional
- 8:54Speaker 3: energy you possibly could have on a Monday night and
- 8:56Speaker 3: in seventy two hours shipped everybody to Arizona. They recreated
- 9:00Speaker 3: that field to make it feel like so far, their
- 9:02Speaker 3: fans showed up and they got the win, and now
- 9:05Speaker 3: on a short week they've got to go across the
- 9:08Speaker 3: country in an early window to play Philly. Where, by
- 9:12Speaker 3: the way, for all the great Stafford and McVay wins,
- 9:15Speaker 3: they've never played a road playoff game in the cold together.
- 9:19Speaker 3: In fact, McVeigh has only had one road playoff game
- 9:22Speaker 3: outside and it was with Jared Goff and it was
- 9:24Speaker 3: in Green Bay in twenty twenty one at Lambeau during
- 9:27Speaker 3: the COVID season.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And this was not.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Really a game either. The Packers took care of business,
- 9:33Speaker 3: so I'm trying to spin it. Ever, I don't think
- 9:35Speaker 3: a Week twelve game in Saquon going for three hundred
- 9:38Speaker 3: is keeping Jared Versus and Brandon Fisk up all night
- 9:41Speaker 3: I do wonder if the lack of experience and the
- 9:45Speaker 3: lack of cold weather experience is going to.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Play a role. If it's weird, we're talking weather talk.
- 9:50Speaker 3: We'd go all the way back to COVID for the
- 9:52Speaker 3: last time that the Rams played an outdoor cold weather
- 9:55Speaker 3: playoff game.
- 9:55Speaker 2: They beat Tampa outdoors. Of course, they won in Arizona
- 9:58Speaker 2: a couple of times. I don't know.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I look at it this as it's a totally different
- 10:02Speaker 3: setup than Week twelve. They're not at home and they're
- 10:04Speaker 3: coming off that emotional victory and they got to go
- 10:07Speaker 3: outside into those elements. I can't stress it enough. I
- 10:09Speaker 3: don't think there's a more hostile place, and you saw
- 10:11Speaker 3: some of the videos than Philadelphia to go play a
- 10:14Speaker 3: road playoff game, And it's true, it's not just what
- 10:17Speaker 3: happens in the crowd, it's on the field.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Also. It's really difficult to.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Win there, especially especially in January when the weather and
- 10:24Speaker 3: the elements and momentum of a hot Eagles team starts
- 10:26Speaker 3: kicking out.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Well.
- 10:28Speaker 3: I mean all season long, we had this amazing debate
- 10:31Speaker 3: over Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, and it really heated
- 10:33Speaker 3: up in the final month of the season. At some
- 10:35Speaker 3: point it became divisive and it became like you had
- 10:37Speaker 3: to like stand on one side or the other, and
- 10:39Speaker 3: if you didn't, you don't have a take, and it
- 10:41Speaker 3: became negative towards you, Like, can we just relish in
- 10:43Speaker 3: what these two guys did in the wildcard round to
- 10:45Speaker 3: set this up? Lamar Jackson was amazing on Saturday night,
- 10:49Speaker 3: amazing with all.
- 10:50Speaker 2: The pressure in the world. Do not screw this up.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Do not lose to a team that's beaten you so
- 10:55Speaker 2: many times before.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Do not have one of those those Lamar Jackson random
- 11:00Speaker 3: playoff just misfit performances.
- 11:02Speaker 2: No, Lamar with that is all time best. They got
- 11:05Speaker 2: him involved early with the run, which I loved. He
- 11:08Speaker 2: ran the ball a ton and it kind of felt.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Like he was in his groove, in his rhythm, and
- 11:12Speaker 3: he was in everybody even without Zay Flowers. He saw
- 11:15Speaker 3: big plays from Rashad Bateman and Nelson Agalre.
- 11:18Speaker 2: And of course Mark Andrews got involved.
- 11:20Speaker 3: In is say I likely had the big Stipparre like,
- 11:22Speaker 3: this game was never in doubt. The Ravens role and
- 11:25Speaker 3: Lamar was tremendous. Then you get to Sunday and the
- 11:29Speaker 3: Broncos score first, and it's like, oh gosh, it's just
- 11:32Speaker 3: really gonna happen. Yeah, and Josh Allen just says, here,
- 11:36Speaker 3: I come alan incredible spot on a beautiful game both
- 11:41Speaker 3: with his legs and with his arm. At no point
- 11:45Speaker 3: in the second half did you feel like this thing
- 11:46Speaker 3: was anything but a shore Bill's victory. And this pass
- 11:49Speaker 3: here is like that would be like the best pass
- 11:51Speaker 3: of a player's career. And it's almost full humpy because
- 11:54Speaker 3: Josh Allen and we are so sure of it. So
- 11:57Speaker 3: I go to these two men coming in at their
- 12:01Speaker 3: all time best right and high, and I'm just gonna
- 12:03Speaker 3: make a plea right now for the viewers.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Let's not try to tear the other one down this week.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Let's build this up for what it is, a great
- 12:10Speaker 3: Divisional round matchup, one of the all time best quarterback
- 12:14Speaker 3: matchups we've ever seen in divisional round, and let's enjoy it.
- 12:18Speaker 3: They're coming in and they're both playing awesome football. Both
- 12:21Speaker 3: teams look unstoppable right now. And instead of making it
- 12:24Speaker 3: Josh versus Lamar this week, maybe we just try on
- 12:26Speaker 3: for size, making it Josh and Lamar, because gosh, I
- 12:29Speaker 3: cannot wait.
- 12:30Speaker 2: For this game six thirty Sunday afternoons.
- 12:32Speaker 3: And I think it's going to be the quarterbacks, I
- 12:34Speaker 3: really do, And who's gonna be the better quarterback? These
- 12:38Speaker 3: have been the best two quarterbacks we have seen all
- 12:40Speaker 3: season long, and now we're asking for one of them
- 12:44Speaker 3: to put the deafening blow to the other.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Look at this.
- 12:47Speaker 3: This is the seventh postseason matchup we will have since
- 12:50Speaker 3: nineteen sixty where you have the number one and number
- 12:53Speaker 3: two vote getters in MVP squaring off at a playoff game.
- 12:57Speaker 3: We get it into the divisional round, not the championship, brown,
- 13:00Speaker 3: not the super Bowl, And by far, this will be
- 13:03Speaker 3: the closest vote. A lot of those votes are likety
- 13:06Speaker 3: nine votes with the Patrick Mahomes. One went to Jalen Hurts,
- 13:09Speaker 3: but they were one verse two. This one is going
- 13:11Speaker 3: to be a very close MVP vote and we don't
- 13:14Speaker 3: know who's gonna get it.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So you have that in itself.
- 13:16Speaker 3: You add in the layer of the fact that both
- 13:19Speaker 3: of these quarterbacks have great frustrations in playoff history, and
- 13:24Speaker 3: then you add in what they've done coming into this thing.
- 13:27Speaker 3: The fact that these two guys have had these seasons, these.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Incredible seasons, and only one of them.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Can advance tells me that the best quarterback.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Is going to be the one that plays in the
- 13:39Speaker 2: next round.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Jackson has won three or four versus Allen all time. Okay,
- 13:45Speaker 3: so you're like, all right, well, Lamar's good. But the
- 13:47Speaker 3: only time they played a playoff game, Josh Allen's team
- 13:51Speaker 3: absolutely took care of business against Lamar. So what matters
- 13:54Speaker 3: more the three regular season wins and the one that
- 13:56Speaker 3: happened earlier this season, or the fact they went to
- 13:59Speaker 3: Buffalo and Buffalo handled their business during that COVID season
- 14:03Speaker 3: in front of very few fans but sent Baltimore packing.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Very simple here, which quarterback is going to be better?
- 14:09Speaker 3: We haven't been able to declare that through nineteen weeks
- 14:12Speaker 3: of football.
- 14:13Speaker 2: We should know after.
- 14:14Speaker 3: This one, because I think we're going to be asking
- 14:16Speaker 3: for the very best from the two very best quarterbacks
- 14:18Speaker 3: all season long. And I think the one who takes
- 14:21Speaker 3: care of business is going to be the one who's
- 14:22Speaker 3: worthy of saying I was the better dude.
- 14:24Speaker 2: This is.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Saquon Barkley, Derek Henry, Peter who has more pressure on
- 14:29Speaker 3: them this weekend.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I'm going with Derrick Henry.
- 14:32Speaker 3: I think this game has looked to be eleven degrees
- 14:35Speaker 3: in Buffalo on Sunday night. It's going to be cold,
- 14:37Speaker 3: it's going to be wicked. And this is where Derrick
- 14:40Speaker 3: Henry shines. This is what his game has always been.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Second half put me to sleep and being able to
- 14:46Speaker 3: do in all the conditions. And I don't think Lamar
- 14:49Speaker 3: is going to be able to light it up through
- 14:50Speaker 3: the air in these conditions. So I'm going to say
- 14:52Speaker 3: Derick Henry based on what he was brought in to do.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Last year, they went to the AFC Championship game and
- 15:00Speaker 3: they had one of the best running attacks in football,
- 15:02Speaker 3: and they completely abandoned the run. And the combination of
- 15:06Speaker 3: Justice Hill and Gus Edwards and JK. Dobbins simply was
- 15:10Speaker 3: not enough. So they went and they spent big money
- 15:12Speaker 3: on a thirty year old running back. A lot of
- 15:14Speaker 3: people gave the side eye to this is why we
- 15:17Speaker 3: brought you. We love what you did for us this season,
- 15:21Speaker 3: But gosh, if we get eighteen carries for forty three yards.
- 15:24Speaker 2: They're not winning this game.
- 15:26Speaker 3: If we get twenty five carries for one hundred and
- 15:29Speaker 3: sixty three yards and two touchdowns, you better believe Baltimore
- 15:32Speaker 3: is moving on to the AFC Championship Round.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I think Derrick Henry.
- 15:36Speaker 3: This is a Ravens team that has knocked on the
- 15:37Speaker 3: door so many times. They brought in their Mariano Rivera,
- 15:41Speaker 3: they brought in their closer, Sam Man.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Now it's time to close.
