Latest / Oh And One More Thing / EP43 - Magnetism... Do you have it?
Transcript
- 0:33Well, hello there everyone. It's Rob.
- 0:35Welcome to one one more thing the.
- 0:37Podcast. And I'm Brian, the man of the
- 0:40hour, the podcast King, your charismatic friend.
- 0:43Just kidding, we're just two guys talking about random topics
- 0:47that we find interesting, or at least I find interesting, and
- 0:50Rob just has to go. With it, that's pretty much my
- 0:51life. All right, So I know I talked
- 0:55about this last week. I'm going to talk about it
- 0:56again. Oh no, you repeat topic or.
- 0:59Tipping. Tipping again?
- 1:01So here's the deal. OK, wait, wait, we're not
- 1:03talking about cow tipping. No, no.
- 1:05Tipping, tipping, tipping, tipping money.
- 1:07So listen to a few previous podcast people if you want to
- 1:10know what I'm talking about. But tipping sometimes irritates
- 1:12me, and here was a prime example last night of what irritated me
- 1:16so. Are you?
- 1:17You get irritated. Frequently I do so, but we went
- 1:20to a new restaurant in town in Chaska.
- 1:22I'm not going to name the restaurant 'cause there's
- 1:23nothing wrong with the restaurant, OK?
- 1:25Food was. OK, you can tell me off there.
- 1:26I will. Food was OK, wasn't horrible,
- 1:28but it wasn't great, but it was it was good, it was decent, it
- 1:30was fine. Service was not great.
- 1:33I mean, no, I think our waitress, I think she may have
- 1:35been the only one on the floor and took a while to get to us
- 1:38and get back to us and empty drinks and and then she didn't
- 1:42really listen. Like somebody placed an order.
- 1:43OK, Is that all you want? Well, no, I'm going to order.
- 1:46OK. Is that all you want?
- 1:47And then she had to get out of there as fast as she could.
- 1:49The daughter is going to order. I mean, yeah, it was just weird.
- 1:51And then it was just weird. The whole thing was weird,
- 1:53Right? So anyway, she brings the bill,
- 1:55which is fine. Yeah.
- 1:56And you know my issue with the little computer and the little
- 1:59tablet, and it says here's your tipping.
- 2:00Well, this one was actually nice.
- 2:02This one was 1520 and 25. OK.
- 2:04So kind of what we grew to that, you know, the standard.
- 2:07Pleasantly surprised. So I was gonna give her 15
- 2:09because honestly, that the service was not great.
- 2:12Sure. So I was gonna give her right?
- 2:13Sure. It makes a difference.
- 2:14Hands me the tablet, literally stands over my shoulder and
- 2:17watches me. Well, you select 15I selected.
- 2:2020 because she's steer me down like a freaking hawk.
- 2:23Oh so you and I was got nervous and little anxiety shy right?
- 2:27Anxiety went up and yeah, and I was pissed.
- 2:30OK, first of all, don't do that people, right?
- 2:32But why didn't you just, you know, push 15?
- 2:35I give her the eye, look at her like.
- 2:38I hovered and I hit the 20 because when it comes to things
- 2:40like that in confrontation, I live in Minnesota and I'm a wuss
- 2:42so. Stand up for yourself, right I?
- 2:46Know so anyway. I know that I don't always do
- 2:49that either. I don't stand for stand up for
- 2:50myself. But you know, yeah, that's kind
- 2:52of why we're one in the same. I suppose, yeah, pretty close to
- 2:55yeah. You know, they do say that birds
- 2:56of a feather flock together, but did you know which birds really
- 2:59stick together? Know what?
- 3:00Velcros. There we go.
- 3:08There's too many buttons. You got it eventually.
- 3:13Though eventually that's funny. Hey, did you ever notice that
- 3:15some people seem to draw the other people in effortlessly?
- 3:20Conversations just seem to flow around them.
- 3:22Yeah. I wish I had that talent.
- 3:23Right. Yeah.
- 3:24Their presence feels energizing rather than draining.
- 3:27Right. Kind of like us draining.
- 3:29No, I think we're energizing. I do.
- 3:32Too. I do too.
- 3:33They aren't necessarily the loudest.
- 3:35Well, sometimes I'm loud and they're not always the most
- 3:38attractive. Hello.
- 3:39Yeah, we are. Or the most accomplished in the
- 3:43room, yet people remember them, trust them, and want to be near
- 3:46them, right? Who are these people, right?
- 3:49Are we one of them? Are you one of them?
- 3:52I say we find out. OK.
- 3:54Yeah. You know this quality is often
- 3:55described as magnetism. That's a great sound.
- 4:01That's our topic. For the day.
- 4:03Awesome. No, wait, wait.
- 4:04It's not animal magnetism, is it?
- 4:06RAR. Wow.
- 4:10No, wow. As I'll say, despite popular
- 4:14belief it is, it isn't something you're either born with or
- 4:17without a magnetic personality. You gotta do that every time.
- 4:21Yes, I am. It's built through habits,
- 4:23small, repeatable behaviors that shape how you show up in the
- 4:26world. OK, OK.
- 4:27So that's a good topic. Right, I think so.
- 4:29So what should I do to become more magnetic, Rob?
- 4:32Well, we found out that there are basically 7 habits that you
- 4:35intentionally practice to make your personality more magnetic,
- 4:38authentic and impactful. OK, good.
- 4:40So I'm going to listen to this intently.
- 4:42Only 7. Really, it's got to be easy
- 4:45then, right? Exactly.
- 4:46So a magnetic personality comes from being genuinely interested
- 4:49in others, showing authentic enthusiasm?
- 4:51Practicing empathy? What's that?
- 4:53Listening actively and excluding positive energy through
- 4:56confidence, humor and passion? OK Making people feel seen,
- 5:00valued and uplifted by your presence.
- 5:01And focus on them, not just yourself.
- 5:04OK, wow, that sounds like a lot to do.
- 5:06Right. Exactly.
- 5:07But here's what makes it work. Magnetic people make others feel
- 5:10good about themselves by making them the focus, showing their
- 5:13heard and valued, and creating positive experiences through
- 5:16shared laughter and genuine connection.
- 5:18OK, OK. So you're saying there are 7
- 5:20habits I can practice to become more magnetic?
- 5:23That's. That's what I hear.
- 5:25Wait, you mean my personality is more magnetic, right?
- 5:28I'm not electrified. No, you're not.
- 5:30Your personality is OK. Perfect all.
- 5:32Right, so let's start with #1 be fully present with people.
- 5:35OK, fully present. Yeah.
- 5:37And tell me how to do. That Yeah.
- 5:38So I'm totally honest here. This is one I struggle a little
- 5:40with because I I, my mind tends to wander a little bit.
- 5:42OK, so a few things are more attractive than feeling truly
- 5:45seen and heard, and I would absolutely agree with that.
- 5:48In a world full of distractions, presence has become rare and
- 5:51therefore powerful. OK, so be fully present.
- 5:55So what does that mean? So it means giving someone your
- 5:57full attention when they speak. It means putting your phone
- 5:59away. That's a big one, not scanning
- 6:01the room for someone more important and resisting the urge
- 6:04to mentally rehearse what you'll say next.
- 6:07Instead, you listen with curiosity and respond
- 6:09thoughtfully. OK.
- 6:10So I think that's hard for some people and be included.
- 6:13Oh, me, me too. Absolutely.
- 6:14And I. I can remember back, you know,
- 6:17you're talking to somebody and you're looking around the room
- 6:19and I'm like, how rude. Yeah, Oh my gosh.
- 6:22And I think it's even harder now just with the fascination
- 6:25everybody has with their phones. I mean you have a little
- 6:27conversation and I'm not going to call anybody out in
- 6:29particular, but like somebody's watch will go off and they
- 6:32literally stop mid sentence, look at their watch or grab your
- 6:34phone and see whatever message they're getting because that's
- 6:36more important then the conversation you and I are
- 6:38having right now. That's what phones have done for
- 6:40us, you know, It's immediate. Right, right.
- 6:43And and you notice that too when you're texting, you know, and a
- 6:47text is, hey, great, I saw it. I'll get back to you.
- 6:49But the person's waiting for a response at the other.
- 6:51End right. It's the damn bubbles.
- 6:53Yeah, it's all you iPhone people and your bubbles.
- 6:55Come on now. You know what's that?
- 6:56We have those on Android. I'll do those.
- 6:58Yeah, you Android. I know we joined the game.
- 7:02All right, magnetic people make others feel like they matter in
- 7:05the moment. That doesn't require charisma or
- 7:09wit, only intention. When you practice presence,
- 7:12people associate you with feeling valued, respected, and
- 7:15understood. Yeah, that's that's cool.
- 7:17That's a very powerful. Statement that is powerful.
- 7:19I like. That I like that too.
- 7:20So how to practice it? OK, maintain comfortable eye
- 7:23contact. OK, so this is difficult.
- 7:25Yeah, it takes practice to actually to maintain eye
- 7:28contact. Yeah.
- 7:28And that's awkward at first, I think, to really get into that.
- 7:31And I know I'm, I'm looking at my script here that we're
- 7:33talking about and I'm trying to look at you at the same time,
- 7:36right? I don't want to be charismatic
- 7:38with you. That's.
- 7:40Also probably why we're following through our words a
- 7:42little bit, because we're trying to look at each other and read
- 7:44at the same time because. We want to make this real
- 7:46anyway. Next is listen to understand,
- 7:49not reply. Yeah, that's, again that's
- 7:51difficult. I have a hard time with that.
- 7:53I'm always trying to think one step ahead.
- 7:55Because you want this next. The next one is ask follow up
- 7:58questions to show you're genuinely interested.
- 8:00Well, if I'm not thinking of the follow up question then there's
- 8:02a pause. But anyway, they say over time,
- 8:05this habit alone can dramatically change how people
- 8:08experience you. Yeah, I can get that.
- 8:10I get that. So since writing this content
- 8:12and researching, I've been trying to practice that and I've
- 8:15been more diligent in trying to look at people when I'm talking
- 8:19to or they're talking to me and give them my full attention.
- 8:22I did it the other day with my wife, and she was telling me
- 8:25about her job. And so I pretty much stopped
- 8:26what I was doing and just focused on her.
- 8:29Yeah. And it was so nice, actually
- 8:32that I wasn't, you know, trying to do something else at the same
- 8:35time. It just gave her my full
- 8:36attention. It was.
- 8:37It was very nice. That's cool.
- 8:38Yeah, I, I tend to wander like in my eyes.
- 8:41Like I'll wander because I, I'm the kind of person that would
- 8:43have to think my eyes go up to the top of my head as I'm
- 8:46looking around in my brain. Yeah, you're.
- 8:47Kind of thinking of the next thing.
- 8:49Right. And it's just, it's just
- 8:50natural. I think I'm not doing it on
- 8:51purpose, Just I have to think hard about something or what I
- 8:54want to say. My eyes roll up and it's for me,
- 8:56I think that's going to be the most difficult thing is to
- 8:58maintain that eye contact and not seem like a creep, right?
- 9:01But but focus on what I want to say.
- 9:03But. Rob, you're creeping me out.
- 9:05Right, that's just that is natural for.
- 9:08Sure. No, it's it's a tough thing to
- 9:10do, but it's definitely worth it.
- 9:16Hey, Brian. Hey, Rob.
- 9:18We all know that Spring Green fertilizes our lawn and sprays
- 9:21for weeds. And it looks fantastic.
- 9:23Did you also know they offer a bunch of other services?
- 9:25Like making mosquitoes go away. We love our mosquito free yard,
- 9:28especially in Minnesota. You know mosquitoes are the
- 9:31official state bird, right? I'm fairly certain it's saloon,
- 9:34but yes, no mosquitoes, rock and liquid.
- 9:36Aerations, rock and mechanical aerations, and overseeding and
- 9:40lawn insect control. Oh my.
- 9:43And don't forget about the total home pest and rodent.
- 9:45That's right, my house is mouse free.
- 9:48See what Spring Green can do for you at springdashgreen.com.
- 9:51For a personalized quote specific to your property,
- 9:53that's Spring dashgreen.com. And tell them.
- 9:56Oh, and one more thing sent you. OK, we're back.
- 10:00So the second point is to cultivate emotional
- 10:02self-awareness. OK, so magnetic individuals
- 10:08understand their own emotions. What?
- 10:10They don't suppress them, nor do they let them spill
- 10:13uncontrollably onto others. This emotional awareness creates
- 10:16steadiness, which people naturally gravitate towards.
- 10:19OK, so when you recognize what you're feeling, whether it's
- 10:21frustration, excitement, insecurity, or joy, you gain the
- 10:25ability to choose how you respond instead of reacting
- 10:27impulsively. This makes your presence feel
- 10:29safe and grounded. OK, that's probably quite
- 10:33difficult to do. Yeah, I think so.
- 10:35But people are drawn to those that can handle their emotions
- 10:37with maturity because it signals reliability and strength.
- 10:40OK, so how to practice that? OK, pause and name your feelings
- 10:45throughout the day. I I work alone all day long in
- 10:51my home and so I'm naming my feelings what usually
- 10:53frustration and I'm screaming about.
- 10:55Right. The next is to notice emotional
- 10:59patterns and triggers. That that I think is easier than
- 11:02the first one probably. Right.
- 11:04And the last is take responsibility for the emotional
- 11:06state. Yep, I.
- 11:07Agree with that. Yep, Yep.
- 11:08See, emotional awareness isn't about perfection, it's about
- 11:12honesty and growth. You.
- 11:13Got to be got to be honest with yourself first.
- 11:14That's where it starts. I like that.
- 11:15All right, the number three speak with warmth and intent.
- 11:19Your words matter, and how you say them matters just as much.
- 11:23Magnetic People Magnetic people communicate with warmth,
- 11:29clarity, and intention. They don't dominate
- 11:32conversations, belittle others, or speak just to be heard.
- 11:36Instead, they choose words that invite connection.
- 11:39They know when to be thoughtful, when to be playful, and when
- 11:43silence is more powerful than speech.
- 11:45Yeah, and we all know those people who just love them to
- 11:47death, but they just can't seem to shut up you.
- 11:49Know what I mean? I don't know that I know how to
- 11:51do this. Yeah, right.
- 11:53It's hard to, you know, carefully speak on things and.
- 11:56And hold things back. And sometimes if you really are
- 11:58passionate right, you want to say it, but it may not be the
- 12:00right time. Well, especially for a couple of
- 12:02guys that wear their motions on their sleeve.
- 12:04Are you talking about me? No, both of us.
- 12:06I'm. Saying I mean like.
- 12:08People know if we're upset. People know, right?
- 12:10We can't hide it at all. So.
- 12:12So this habit creates atmosphere where others feel comfortable
- 12:15expressing themselves without fear or judgement.
- 12:18So how to practice it? Slow down your speech slightly.
- 12:22OK, that's a struggle. Oh God, here's another one.
- 12:26I oh avoid sarcasm at others expense.
- 12:29Oh God, that's another tough SO. OK, can you be a sarcastic
- 12:32person and then not be a sarcastic person?
- 12:35I don't know how to do that. I don't.
- 12:37Know how to do that stuff. And thirdly, match your tone to
- 12:39the emotional moment. OK, that one I get.
- 12:42Do you? I'm not 100% sure on that one.
- 12:45Match your tone to the emotional moment.
- 12:48OK. So if I'm excited, my tone can
- 12:50go higher and I'd be excited if the room is kind of down, keep
- 12:54my tone down. Yeah, it makes sense.
- 12:55That's what you're saying. Yeah.
- 12:56OK. Yeah.
- 12:57So when your words consistently uplift or clarify, people
- 13:00associate your voice with comfort and confidence.
- 13:02Oh, I like that. So kind of like how we're
- 13:04talking on this podcast because we're confident in what we're
- 13:06doing. Well, we, we assume people
- 13:08assume we're confident, you know, when we try.
- 13:11But yeah, totally behind the scenes, right?
- 13:13Not kind of. Exactly.
- 13:15I I'm just one day at a time, buddy.
- 13:17One day at it. All right #4 show genuine
- 13:22appreciation, OK? One of the fastest ways to
- 13:24become magnetic. Love it.
- 13:27Thank you for that. Is to make appreciation a daily
- 13:30habit, not flattery, authentic recognition.
- 13:35OK, magnetic people, you're a little slow on that trigger.
- 13:38A little slow on that one, sorry.
- 13:41Magnetic people notice effort. They acknowledge kindness.
- 13:46They express gratitude openly and specifically.
- 13:49This habit builds goodwill and emotional residence almost
- 13:52instantly. When appreciation is genuine, it
- 13:55doesn't feel transactional. It feels generous.
- 13:57And generosity of spirit is deeply attractive.
- 14:02It is, you say. That's what I hear.
- 14:05Right, So how to practice it? Compliment character, not just
- 14:08appearance. How do you do?
- 14:10That well, especially if you're on like Love is Blind on
- 14:12Netflix, you. Can't see them dull people.
- 14:15That's the worst, right? Yeah.
- 14:17No, that's not happening on there.
- 14:19But that's what they do. They do, they do build and they
- 14:21do build. They build relationships and
- 14:23complement each other based on their character, not on their
- 14:26appearance really. So I think that.
- 14:27Is that's what's happening on that show?
- 14:29Is the one thing I have taken away from that show is like you
- 14:31really truly get to know a person inside before you get to
- 14:34see them. Oh, wait, wait, wait.
- 14:35I'm thinking of Love Island. Love is blind, not Love Island,
- 14:39Right? Right.
- 14:40That's all about the pretty people.
- 14:41Right love is blind is they they have to get to know each about
- 14:44seeing them. Yeah, and nine times out of 10
- 14:46they're pretty anyway, just 'cause they're on TV, but not
- 14:48the point, right? Right.
- 14:49But oh, I so now I get it. I get that makes sense.
- 14:52OK, OK. Thank people promptly and
- 14:54sincerely. So right away.
- 14:56Right away, yeah. And recognize contributions
- 14:58publicly when appropriate. OK.
- 15:00So overtime, people will associate you with positivity
- 15:03and encouragement. I want to be this person.
- 15:06I want to be this person and. And it's hard, I mean, to
- 15:09practice all of these things, right?
- 15:11Yeah, that's going to be a. Lot of work.
- 15:13I think in theory it sounds great, but I think you're right.
- 15:14I think it it takes actual practice to make it happen.
- 15:17Yeah, I'm going to report back next week how I did.
- 15:19Love it. OK, all right #5 be comfortable
- 15:22with who you are. That's probably a hard one.
- 15:25That's tough, yeah. Nothing repels connection faster
- 15:28than trying too hard to impress right magnetic people.
- 15:33See, you got it that time. People are comfortable in their
- 15:37own skin. They don't need to prove
- 15:39themselves, exaggerate their stories, or seek constant
- 15:41validation. Yeah, I mean, I, I get that if
- 15:44somebody is doing that, it's kind of a turn off.
- 15:46Oh. Absolutely it is.
- 15:48And this doesn't mean that they're arrogant or complacent.
- 15:50It means they accept themselves while continuing to grow.
- 15:52OK, That quiet self assurance puts others at ease because
- 15:55there's no hidden agenda, OK? Authentically, it creates trust,
- 15:59and trust is magnetic. You got it.
- 16:05So how do we practice that? We speak honestly about what you
- 16:09know and what you don't know. That's.
- 16:11The key, that's the key, and that's tough for some people.
- 16:13Yeah, yeah, 'cause. You don't want to admit you
- 16:14don't know something, right? Right.
- 16:16Yeah. Allow your personality to be
- 16:18imperfect. Right.
- 16:18No. I got that one down perfectly.
- 16:23I do that every. Day, every day.
- 16:25I'm imperfect, right? And the last one is stop
- 16:28comparing your journey to others.
- 16:30Right. I think that's tough for a lot
- 16:31of people. It's really hard.
- 16:33Especially in this social media environment that we currently
- 16:35live in. Yeah, all about what's on TikTok
- 16:37and on Reels and. Constant.
- 16:39Yeah, it's a constant. Comparison.
- 16:40Constant comparison, yeah. So when you stop performing,
- 16:43people feel free to do the same around you.
- 16:46Oh, that's cool. I like it.
- 16:47That's really cool. Like it #6 bring positive energy
- 16:51without forcing it. OK, so magnetic people.
- 16:55There's that sound again. Magnetic people aren't
- 16:57relentlessly cheerful. What?
- 17:00How's that? Yeah, right.
- 17:01But they are emotionally constructive.
- 17:04OK. OK I need to know what this.
- 17:05Means explain that. They don't complain excessively,
- 17:09dwell on negativity, oh, that's my problem.
- 17:11Or drain the room with cynicism. That's both our.
- 17:14What? Right.
- 17:16So I have been known to drain the room, but here we're doing
- 17:21this sort of thing between you and I and the world, and it's
- 17:25making me a better person. Rob.
- 17:27It is. And, you know, I think we just
- 17:28had this conversation right before we started recording
- 17:29today about it's tough to do this every week, right?
- 17:32It is. Tough.
- 17:32It is tough, but by the time we're done, we're always in a
- 17:34better mood, we're always happy. I know I I come in here like a
- 17:37lump on a log and you are like, let's do this.
- 17:39And I'm like, I don't wanna. And here we are happy go lucky.
- 17:43And we're having fun and we have a great time.
- 17:44By the time we're done, we're smiling and laughing and having
- 17:46a great time. Right, everybody should do this.
- 17:48Right, No, they shouldn't, only only we should do it.
- 17:51And you should tell all your friends and your enemies about
- 17:54this podcast 'cause it's that good.
- 17:55So you, you picked up what I was putting down.
- 17:59OK, let's get back to the topic here.
- 18:01So instead positive energy, they bring perspective, optimism, and
- 18:05emotional balance. They acknowledge challenges
- 18:08without being consumed by them. OK, that's hard.
- 18:11This makes others feel lighter and more capable in their
- 18:14presence. Positive energy isn't about
- 18:16pretending everything is fine, it's about choosing responses
- 18:20that move situations forward rather than pulling them down
- 18:24right. And, and again, we all know
- 18:26those people that the. First one of those.
- 18:29People you're not, but I know in your mind you think you are.
- 18:32Well, I'm working on it. Yeah, I know, and you absolutely
- 18:34are not. But I know people that I talk to
- 18:37on a regular basis that the first thing out of their mouth
- 18:38is always something negative and it just drives me nuts.
- 18:41Yeah. And if you're paying attention
- 18:44to yourself, you recognize that that drives you nuts and those
- 18:47people who bring it down. So you you try to go a little
- 18:49bit more to the positive. Yeah, but it's just like a dark
- 18:52tunnel you can't get out of if you're always looking at the
- 18:53negative. You just can't see the light.
- 18:56And and that's that's, that's hard.
- 18:58Well, that has a lot to do with mental awareness and, you know,
- 19:02depression and those things that really carry you down.
- 19:04Absolutely. So how to practice it?
- 19:06OK, tell me how. Limit habitual complaining.
- 19:09OK, OK, it's what? Thomas like I set that off How?
- 19:13Did you do that? Right.
- 19:15Yeah, it's tough. You can't.
- 19:16You can't complain about everything you've got you've.
- 19:18Not, or at least if you have a complaint, find the positive
- 19:21lining to it, right? Exactly.
- 19:24And and you're still sort of complaining because you need to
- 19:26get it off your chest. It makes you feel better, but
- 19:29you got to have a positive swing.
- 19:30It's OK to vent, just don't dwell and live with it, right?
- 19:33Yeah. Reframe setbacks as learning
- 19:35moments. There's always a learning
- 19:36experience from everything. Yeah.
- 19:38Yeah. Everything negative.
- 19:39Everything negative has you. You're going to learn something
- 19:41from it and be better because of it, right?
- 19:42It may suck at the time, it may be miserable, but you will get
- 19:45through it. You will be better for it.
- 19:46Thanks, Rob. Yep.
- 19:48And be my mindful of the emotional tone you bring into
- 19:50rooms. Yeah, that's hard.
- 19:52Don't always. I'm not always mindful of what
- 19:54I'm carrying in, you know, and I might just, like, spew it out
- 19:58and that's wrong. Yeah.
- 19:59So people naturally seek out environments to make them feel
- 20:01better, not worse. And we want people.
- 20:04Yes, we do. So #7 make others feel
- 20:07empowered. Perhaps the most magnetic there
- 20:11it is habit of all is helping others feel stronger, more
- 20:15confident and more capable after interacting with you.
- 20:19O magnetic people. What was that?
- 20:24So I changed it up a little bit so.
- 20:25A little. OK, that was different a little.
- 20:26Cooler mood a little. More Spacey, so magnetic people
- 20:29don't compete for attention or diminish others to elevate
- 20:32themselves. They listen, encourage, and
- 20:35offer support in ways that empower rather than control.
- 20:39I like. That I like that, yeah.
- 20:41I. Hope I can put all this into
- 20:42practice. When people leave a conversation
- 20:44with you feeling inspired or capable, they'll want to return.
- 20:47Absolutely. Those are the kind of people you
- 20:49want to engage with, right? Yeah.
- 20:51Friends. Exactly.
- 20:52So how do you practice it? So encourage others ideas and
- 20:55ambitions. Okay, so be encouraging
- 20:57basically. Absolutely, Brian, I think
- 21:00you're a fantastic artist and you should promote your stuff
- 21:02more. Thanks, Rob.
- 21:04Briandoingcreative.com By the way, share credit generously.
- 21:10Rob, you do a great job on this podcast and you.
- 21:14Know Brian, I love how you edit and you do such a good job and
- 21:17take out all the crap we screw up with.
- 21:19Yeah, there's a lot of screw up and there's a lot of UMS and
- 21:22there's a lot of, you know, your mouth makes a noise.
- 21:26Yeah, all that's taken out people.
- 21:28And this, what is it? We're at a, we're about half
- 21:31hour podcast today. It's about an hour and a half
- 21:33recording time. Yeah, for being honest and offer
- 21:39help without expecting anything in return.
- 21:41I can do that. Yeah, yeah, so true magnetism.
- 21:46There's the sound of like. Isn't about about attracting
- 21:49people to you, it's about lifting them up.
- 21:52Oh, that's nice. Yeah.
- 21:54OK, so I got to remember that more.
- 21:56It's like less about me, more about you, right?
- 21:59And you're going to say less about me?
- 22:02More about you. Yeah, why?
- 22:03I was also going to say you don't need to be like a a
- 22:05positive Poly where everything that's coming out of your mouth,
- 22:08the rainbows and unicorns, but. No, there's seven steps here.
- 22:11There's a lot of things to do, right?
- 22:13If I can only accomplish 50% of these, I'll be halfway to being
- 22:16magnetically. And honestly, for me, it's just
- 22:19doing a better job of cutting out the negativity.
- 22:21Okay, right. Things like, you know, I hate
- 22:23people. Come on now, you.
- 22:25Know what I don't hate people when I'm driving on the highway.
- 22:28So, OK, so that's a little bit different, right?
- 22:30It's called road rage. Yeah, so someone with a magnetic
- 22:33personality seems to pull others in effortlessly.
- 22:37Their confidence, warmth and energy create an invisible force
- 22:41that draws people closer. We often describe such
- 22:45individuals as attractive not because of appearance alone, but
- 22:49because of an intangible presence that feels almost
- 22:52physical. Interestingly, this metaphor
- 22:55echoes a real phenomenon in the natural the whole world of
- 22:58animal magnetism. OK, so what's the difference?
- 23:02OK, well, charisma operates in the realm of human emotion and
- 23:06perception. Animal magnetism refers to the
- 23:09mysterious force once believed to flow between living beings,
- 23:14blurring the lines between science and mysticism.
- 23:17Mysticism. Mysticism.
- 23:19Mysticism. Mysticism.
- 23:20How many times can I say that? Mysticism.
- 23:21OK. In both cases, magnetism
- 23:24symbolizes an unseen power of attraction, inviting us to
- 23:29consider how invisible forces, whether psychological or
- 23:33physical, shape connection and influence.
- 23:36OK, OK, so let's maybe give a little background on animal
- 23:38magnetism. Sure, that's not the same.
- 23:41You can't use the animal mechanism with that.
- 23:43All right, sorry, what else do I have in here?
- 23:45All I got. All right, so an 18th century
- 23:48theory proposed by German physician Franz Anton Mesmer
- 23:52suggested an invisible natural fluid exists in all living
- 23:55things that can be manipulated to cure illnesses.
- 23:58What? It was believed at the time to
- 24:00be a magnetic force channeled by a practitioner to restore
- 24:03health. The later investigations by
- 24:06scientists like Benjamin Franklin debunked the theory,
- 24:09attributing its apparent effects to suggestions and hypnosis.
- 24:13OK, sure. The modern non scientific usage
- 24:16of animal magnetism is often used to describe a powerful raw
- 24:19or primal personal charm and sexual attractiveness.
- 24:23Brown chicken, Brown cat. So definitely different than a
- 24:27magnetic personality. Right.
- 24:29No, I don't think we want animal magnetism.
- 24:31We want magnetic personalities, so.
- 24:33Don't. Don't confuse those.
- 24:34Don't you want that one? Not that one.
- 24:39That's right, there's 2 completely different things
- 24:43happening here. OK, so let's recap these for
- 24:46everybody. Because that was a lot.
- 24:48It was a lot. So number one was be fully
- 24:50present with people. OK, we can do that.
- 24:52Number 2, Cultivate emotional self-awareness.
- 24:56All right #3 was speak with warmth and intent and. #4 Show
- 25:01genuine appreciation. OK, good #5 be comfortable with
- 25:06who you are. That's hard.
- 25:07That's hard. And number six, bring positive
- 25:10energy without forcing it that we can do that.
- 25:13That's a good one and #7 make others feel empowered.
- 25:16And I think that one's the biggest.
- 25:18Yeah, these are going to be hard to work on, but it's going to be
- 25:21worth it, Absolutely. So as always, please follow us

- 25:43What is it, Rob? And Magnetic personality isn't
- 25:45built overnight, and it isn't built through tricks or
- 25:47manipulation, and it isn't animal magnetism.
- 25:50No, it's not, Darn it. It's the natural result of
- 25:52consistent habits rooted in presence, self-awareness,
- 25:55warmth, and authenticity. The more you practice these
- 25:58habits, the more your interactions will feel
- 26:00meaningful rather than transactional.
- 26:02And overtime, people won't just notice you that remember how you
- 26:05made them feel. Oh, that's nice.
- 26:07And that, my friend, is the essence of true magnetism.
- 26:13Bam, there it is. Bam.
- 26:15OK, so that's it. Bye everyone, bye.
- 26:18So basically no shortcuts on being a decent human.
