- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the nine or noise podcast, part of the fan side in podcast network.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor at nine or noise.com and here with me, fellow contributor and fully rested up from the by week.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Oksha's divadula, Oksha's tower things, man, they're pretty good Robert.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: It was a good time for the 49ers by for them to get healthy and for me to do some work.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: ready and refreshed to get back to another week of football.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: We 14 was a weird week.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe not necessarily a very beneficial one from the four others perspective, but, you know, as we sort of, I think alluded to a lot last week, a lot of what the 49ers need to do is in their own control.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: So, kind of, you wish the, like, I don't know, the cards fell a different way.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: Nothing, nothing that they want to do is like lost to them just because of last week.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, very strange situation.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: So they went into last week with a buy obviously, but there were scenarios.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you saw this that could have allowed them to get as high as the number one seed in the NFC without playing a game, which would have been strange.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now those were
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Chicago had to lose as well right and they would and somehow they would have ended up in the in as the number one seed which would have been wild of course the rams got the way the cardinals and Seattle got the Falcons so there wasn't a whole lot of a chance of that happening so you know that's fine you can't you know like you said you you know want to put this in their hands of somebody else like just
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: You're in a position where you can kind of control your own destiny a little bit.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not completely like you're going to need some help.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: If like indeed, you would be dreaming of the number one seed, which sounds crazy to me.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: But nevertheless, they did take up a spot on the over the weekend and spite.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: And really, I think it was set up to no matter what happened, they were going to pick up at least one spot, right?
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was the least, the most likely outcome is the one that happened, which was Ram's one, Seattle one.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: the packers won and so the bear is fall from the one seed of the seven seed the Niners get to be the sixth seed if the season ends today they would take on Philadelphia I believe But honestly, not a terrible match up as far as like a first round As far as the first round is against is kind of shaping up.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think I don't know like it's hard to say I'm into all playoff teams, but if you were like I think I feel like if you were like
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: stop the season right now.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: You'd be like that probably be the the the outcome of the top of seeds two through four or whatever that you'd be like yeah I'll take that team as they're currently playing right now.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think I'd still play the books.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah yeah that's true.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_03]: But you're right like I think basically the teams that are the most terrifying in the NFC right now
- 3:21[SPEAKER_03]: are the NFC West teams, which is great because you're really familiar with them.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: That's so great because that's why at a nine and four record, the 49ers are the six seed in the NFL.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then third place in the division.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_03]: I saw something, it was like the Rams and Seahawks are on like some top 15 list of most like historically productive seasons ever from this year, like both of them.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_03]: seven teams in front of them.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_03]: One of them was the 20, 20, 3, 40 Niners.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_03]: One of them was, I think the 95 or 94 Niners as well.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_03]: But like the 2000s, like lofty teams.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_03]: And both of those teams this year, like just a brutal division, not only it serves as the record, but just like how well the teams are played.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think crazy, crazy limb to go out here on,
- 4:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think the Super Bowl winners in the NFC West.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't know which team it'll be.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_03]: But I think NFC West team is going to win the Super Bowl.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Man, that hurts because it would be a terrible to watch either one of those other teams.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a there's a 33% chance that's a really good thing.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's not a good thing.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: All right, gun to your head, which of those two outcomes is the worst?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: The worst sea.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the turn around is so fast.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree with the ramps.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, okay, like, they've been pretty good.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_03]: But if sea.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is one of the couple years ago, like, no, we do.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: Seattle, like, basically fires peak Carol two years ago, and it's now winning a Super Bowl.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_03]: That's just.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, yeah, I agreed.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: All right, cool, I'm glad we agreed with that.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the first thing that happened.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Then there was just a flurry of roster moves that happened over the course of the time during the buy.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: The first is that the 49ers finally got their man.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: Eric Kendrick's, as of course, who I'm speaking of, you may recall last last off season.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's not this past one, but the one before at the 2024 leading into the 2024 season.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Eric Kendrick's had a verbal agreement with the 49ers in that sort of like legal tampering period or whatever the negotiation period, whatever you want to call it.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then before the actual signing period began, he said, I'm just kidding.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: decided to go to Dallas, you know, I'm sure we said not so nice things about him at the time, but really in reality made a lot of sense, you know, Mike Zimmer, the guy who was his coach in Minnesota for so many years was there as a defense coordinator for Dallas.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: He got to be a starter as a middle linebacker or something he would not have done in San Francisco, but he got hurt and wasn't playing and was on the on the street and was available and
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: was willing to join the practice squad for the 49ers.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: So an interesting ad there, depending on the health of a guy like Tatum Bethune, maybe he makes a big difference.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: At least as the opportunity to play, so it'll be really interesting to see if that actually amounts to anything.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: But it is kind of funny that after what happened last year, he's just like, all right, well, here he is.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder what happened last year actually makes them feel comfortable being like, all right, so this was a guy who we wanted.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_03]: And because like, you know, as you mentioned, his reasons for joining Dallas pretty pretty fair.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like, yeah, I deal, but like, there's no, like, it's really hard to say that like joining Dallas was not objectively the better decision for him.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_03]: They were really, really comparable.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, like, from what we talked about with like, middle linebacker play with the 49ers the last couple of weeks.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: I'm tilted and Bethoon gets back.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_03]: That's really a position you want to hold up.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_03]: And like if Eric Hendrix is able to like go, that's, that's a huge boon.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I say if he's able to go because I don't know if you saw this.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's out here.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he, he's out here.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Look how the team, my guy.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_03]: He could not practice so.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_03]: Who knows, but, oh.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I did see that.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, he's not actually on the injury report because he's on the practice squad.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: So they don't have to report those kinds of things, but it is pretty funny that calf injury like he's he's given into the team ethos immediately.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: He just got here.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's like I'm part of the team guys.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Look at me.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so not great, but hopefully it'll be okay.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the other is that, uh, well, it's a couple of other moves.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get through them all.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of things.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Ben Bartch went to the IR, his season is done with that lens Frank foot injury in his place.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: They coached a linebacker and other linebacker off of the Broncos practice squad.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Garrett wallow.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know Garrett wallow for anybody, but He's on the 49er's 53-man roster now because that's how the rules work, right?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: I feel to take a player off the practice squad.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: You have to put him on your 53-man roster.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: I imagine as we talked about with Tatum Bethune being a little bit, you know, if he at this point,
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nick Martin is in the concussion protocol still, which that's a little worrying considering the game was over a week ago.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: But he's still in that process.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of makes sense, even if this is just a guy who's like a special team's guy that maybe Brand Boy or wanted to bring in, I don't know.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's hard to tell like exactly what Garrett Wall is going to bring.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_03]: He is on the 53 that almost seems somewhat just like you mentioned almost procedural in nature.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that means any like if I had to like rank importance or likelihood to play on Sunday between Eric 10 tricks and gears wall of assuming like health.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_03]: which matters because Kendrick's is injured.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think Kendrick's is getting like dressed before, while...
- 9:37[SPEAKER_03]: So...
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: Who knows, I mean, they have the roster spots, so might as well.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_03]: You use it.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of other moves, tried to squad-related things.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: They added Widersyver Javan Baker to the practice squad and then released Matt Gay and Adrian Martinez.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: The release of Matt Gay is probably the most notable move because that means that Eddie Peniera was tracking to play on Sunday, which is good news.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: broke good work with the hamstring, hopefully everything's good there.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: And there's no interesting, or no problems there.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Asian Martinez immediately got snatched up by the jets to go to their practice squad.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: So it's got opportunity for him.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: It just means that they don't have another, or that is related to another move that's coming up in a second as well.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: So they also added to the practice squad corner back as they abolden, yeah, so any thoughts
- 10:38[SPEAKER_03]: So like you mentioned, I think the kicking move is the most significant and so far as Eddie being back like Matt K. kicked well.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_03]: Sort of no beats missed, but I think Eddie Penear out has really has been really, really steady.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the interesting to see how he looks coming off the hamstring, you know, kickers oftentimes can kind of struggle with it.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, some would say that is what derail Jake moodies career with 49ers, some would say some would say.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: not this podcast but some beyond that I think like so there's another so there's a quarterback move we'll talk about that we haven't yet that I think puts the age in Martinez moving to perspective it's a good opportunity the jets are kind of all over the place there's a other chip he can get snaps which would be like impressive but like it is a little annoying
- 11:35[SPEAKER_03]: You have sort of relied on him as being that like third second quarterback.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I think in that way, it is sort of a safety blanket option.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_03]: You might hope that I don't know how like roster rules work for the playoffs.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_03]: That they somehow stash him back or the playoffs and haven't there.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_03]: That way in in the worst worst case, you know, like we saw in 2023.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: You have someone who at least knows the playbook knows how to like in theory.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_03]: operate the offense.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's not talk about that happening.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, the other two guys, I, again, I don't know.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not familiar with either Javan Baker or Isaiah Bolden, but at this point, it just seems like they're just adding bodies in places where they need them.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: And wider
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: with the situation that's going on, and then Isaiah Bolden just another cornerback.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the situation is there.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Practice Squad moves tend to not be terribly exciting.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: So, there we go.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other thing that you mentioned, quarterback related, is that they, before I then opened up the practice window for Curtis Rork, who they took at the end of the draft this past season, seventh round again, right?
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Or was it a six round round or a call?
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so he is a rookie.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: He was at Indiana, which is interesting considering the success that team is having right now.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: But played on a torn ACL all year last year, most of the year last year, which smiled to me and then had surgery and was recovering from that surgery throughout most of the season.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: they open up the practice window, which I think is actually more interesting than it would seem.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's definitely not going to play it all this year.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's they're third quarterback, but he gets three weeks to practice, which is good.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Just to get out there, let him run around, let him get into the flow, let him throw football, which is probably something he hasn't done in a long time.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: But ultimately, I think the takeaway here is that
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: This could be a little bit of an audition for Curtis Work to see if the Niners can feel comfortable enough with him.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so if people come calling about Mack Jones in the off season that they might be like, all right, well, you want to give us a second round pick for our backup quarterback, sure.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: And they gladly take it if the opportunity arose.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: And but obviously they'd have to feel comfortable with what Curtis Work offers.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: And this is just his first opportunity to be able to show them that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_03]: Conspiracy theory had on someone comes in and offers.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_03]: First round picks for Brock Perty, but I digress.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're exactly right, Robert.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_03]: Like he's not playing this year.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: A, I don't think he's technically like on the active roster right now in part because he's still recovering from the incident.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: No, don't see what he would have been on for a plus, right?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think so, but like it's a great opportunity for him to get his feet with kind of show,
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: get back into the action of football which is really important.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_03]: He, um, who's quite good in Indiana.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, not like as good as Fernando Mendoza's been this year for that team, but really a huge part of that turnaround.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of in the same vein of quarterback as Rock Pretty and Mac Jones, which is interesting, but I think it's really about if he can be your backup, then
- 15:10[SPEAKER_03]: that opens up a world of possibilities regarding how you proceed with Mac Jones.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: Because there are a lot of teams in the NFL that'll need quarterbacks.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: There are a lot of, and there, I mean, you can do a lot worse than Mac Jones on five million as a stockgab option.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I think for the 49ers, it will be greater work kind of like shows that that he can take that backup mantle.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think for him, it's a great opportunity just to get like, you know, playing
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's insane.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I feel like in hockey, you hear the stories a lot about like players being like, yeah, to tour an ACL or like, tour a miniscus, but in football, it's much rare to like hear about these injuries and people playing through and for as long as he did, that's pretty impressive in and of itself.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I think more like, generally speaking, I like that 49 hours like drafted him.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: I think you should always draft quarterback because if they hit,
- 16:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's like, like the payoff is so huge, like there's no reason to not like their one, like throw a dart, see what happens.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you need to give a rock pretty in the movement, here you go.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_03]: And like I like that they're giving him this like low stakes audition.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_03]: But like we said, if he's not going to play, it doesn't really solve your emergency third quarterback problem.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_03]: So I would I would want to to see how they're going to address that at some point later in the season.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, at this point, until, I mean, we'll see.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're recording this a little bit early because in the week earlier in the week, then we usually do the previews.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: So it could be that by the time you're hearing this, they've already signed another quarterback to the practice squad to take care of the problem.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Because again, Rourke is not taking it but roster spot at the particular point or anything like that.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then at the end, what will happen is he'll practice for his three weeks and then when the three weeks is up, they'll just put him on eye on season ending IR and they'll see it and it'll be all all done.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: And by that point, the season will basically over anyway.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: So interesting there.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing that I'm interested to kind of look out for on this front is potential rumblings that you to a grassroots might be the next guy to get his practice window open.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think there's a several key guys that you could be like this would be really interesting to see add this player back into the mix.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: To me, he seems of the players likely to come
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: that could potentially come back off of IR, seems to be the one barring like a brand and I change of heart kind of situation.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Gersmottos, I think, seems to be the one that could make the biggest impact on this team moving forward.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Robert, I will counter this by saying the rumors.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Fred Warner trying to return.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: So outside of that, yes, yes, obviously.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_03]: Now you're totally right.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I saw like a stat from the San Francisco standard about how like Bryce Huff, Nick Bosa, and Yeter Grossmatoes, or basically the only above average pass versus the 49ers have played this year.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's terrifying, but also like underscores how important it is to have Grossmatoes back because he really especially rushing from the interior.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_03]: He adds a different element
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: They don't have a past rush.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: They did fine against Cleveland that I think is a byproduct of Cleveland being a bad team.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_03]: Shoulder Sanders holding on to the ball for a while.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_03]: And like, I guess I'll say what Cleveland is not being a very good offense.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think that sort of, that was a circumstance where they were able to take advantage of situations, but weren't really impacting the game.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: And they'll need past rush.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_03]: This defense is kind of like flying by the skin of its teeth right now in like being as good as it is given its underlying numbers of like for some turnovers like yards like pass rush, but at some point you need to have that ability to impact a game and put pressure literally and figuratively on opposing offenses and like gross matches would be huge for that.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll be on the lookout for that.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: It seems unlikely at this point that he would be because he's dropping in a need at least a week.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: And like history has told us that when they when they open up practice windows for really anybody, it's at least a week if not more of kind of building up to that.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: And at this point, I don't know that you're terribly concerned about whether or not he can well, you're certainly not worried about whether and it can make it back.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: for the Tennessee game, or even like Chicago, or like, or sorry, that I got that backwards.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's Tennessee, and then the Colt, and then the Colt, who are also an interesting thing, more in them in one second.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the goal is like, you don't want to rush him back because maybe the concern is not until,
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: like the final two weeks this season and then in building into the playoffs you'd rather have him like rare to go towards like as things get ramped up to get to the end.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: So what we'll certainly be watching out for that.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of Indianapolis.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: So the last last but in this is unrelated to the 49ers.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: In any way, at least at this particular point, but I just feel like it has to be talked about.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: And that is that Daniel Jones tore his Achilles over the weekend.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: He was already playing on a broken leg, which is actually real quick.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know, was it the same leg?
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just assumed it was, but I actually don't know.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_03]: I hope not that it seems like it was, it was scream like negligence on the part of the cold.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, well, I mean, like I let him play on a broken leg, but so yeah.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I don't know.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so, so Daniel James has done for the season.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably going to put the start of next season in jeopardy.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, I think he was only playing on the one-year deal anyway.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like a very weird quarterback situation going on over there.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, he was already, I think, like after the hot start kind of playing himself out of like there were a lot of conversations about like, oh, they're going to sign them to a long-term extension and all this kind of stuff.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of that noise kind of died down a little bit.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: probably especially now because of the injury, um, they, his backup, and I didn't realize this until until it was, you know, came up on my news feed, uh, Riley Leonard, who was at Notre Dame last year, was their backup quarterback.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: He came in and finished the game on Sunday, uh, that I believe they lost Jacksonville.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then he got hurt in the middle of that game.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: His is, uh, I think a PCL sprain if I'm not mistaken.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: So some questions about whether or not he'll be able to go on Sunday.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: And so the cults, of course, and their infinite wisdom arrived at the most logical conclusion that any of us would come to, Oksha's, and that was they decided to sign a 44-year-old quarterback who's been out of the game for five years, and that is Philip Trivers, who...
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: is on their practice one.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_03]: I just want to emphasize is a pro football Hall of Fame semi-finals.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, this year right right right is being determined for whether or not you should be in the Hall of Fame and it's now coming back right now.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_03]: Absurd like absurd.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_03]: I just it needs to be said just like
- 23:12[SPEAKER_03]: like it needs to be stated that that's five years.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, like five years.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's a reason that the Hall of Fame has that five-year set-up, right?
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's so, because they're like five years.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's plenty of time.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: By the time you've been out five years, you're definitely done in Philip Irvers' like, nah, I got you bro.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: So he's basically their second quarterback at this point,
- 23:41[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not even untenganced that like he would be their starter even when Riley Leonard gets back You think he will be their starter even when I think so like cuz It's just hard for me to like see them being like oh like
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: Phil, if we want to bail man, old man to step aside with you for the C. Youngfail, Youngfailer, I just I couldn't see it.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, they absolutely brought him back because they expect that he's going to play.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because you don't go through all this.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: You don't be like, hey, 44 year old guy, it wasn't played football in five years, like come over and play on our practice squad and maybe we'll do YouTube, like they anticipate.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: And as soon as he is elevated to the roster, like his Hall of Fame, he's off the list for semi-finalists, his time resets.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: So basically, he waited for five years and made it the semi-finalists in the semi-finalists his first year.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then he's going to immediately reset that for four games.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: Stay tuned for my upcoming column,
- 24:58[SPEAKER_03]: joining the cult is means is good.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_03]: A good thing for the 49ers because a friend Gore is all famed.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_03]: Let's do that.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: That does take one does take one semi finalists off the board.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: So it also might be good for the 49ers because oh, by the way, I have we not mentioned that Philip Irvers is not played football in five years and as we also noted the 49ers play the cults in next Monday night in Indianapolis.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: I also just like, some of the discussion about like, so apparently he's been killed from high school football.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, yeah, I was gonna.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_03]: And like, the reason that the cults felt comfortable in part was because he like runs the cult's offense.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: So therefore has familiarity with the, like, I mean, look, cool.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_03]: This is like, this is weird, weird.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and Jim Ersay isn't even around anymore to be like, oh, yeah, of course.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is just bizarre.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Truly bizarre.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Gosh, I hope we don't need our words.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's like, I mean, maybe, maybe even if it works out, it's still bad process.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because it's a short term, it's a short term solution.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: to for a team that has just absolutely been wretched at quarterback selection post Andrew Luck right now part of that wasn't their fault right because he kind of blindsided them and was like, hey, I don't want to play football anymore, but and really that was
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: That was easy, right?
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's just kind of fell into their lap.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that just happened to be terrible that year, and they were like, oh, okay.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what should we do with this first all of our overall picture?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: We take the quarterback that everybody thinks is like the most talented player of his generation.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sure, we'll go with that.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and, you know, you can make the argument that they did that before, too.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: I was just going to say it would say manning, so they've kind of twice the only time they've gotten the quarterback thing right over the last 25, 30 years or whatever has been to any idiot on the planet can make the correct pick here, kind of situations.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to say, people give like the pack.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of flag for only winning two Super Bowls between like all those years
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: The colds only won one with all those years of like, what can man it pretty, pretty bad.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, those luck teams were not, we're not great.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: And he didn't stick around long enough to, for that.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I know what you mean.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's rough.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: And ever since he left, it's been, it's been really bad.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: And what is Anthony Richards?
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: Is he, let's, let's go on with him.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's on IR.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_03]: All right, cool.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: which I may have suffered during warm ups if I remember correctly.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Great job, guys.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the cults stay tuned for our feelings about the Indian and in-apps.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I mean, it's all this aside, our previews get us sound different than this.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sure.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we're making fun of them now.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_03]: because the rest of the team is pretty good.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_03]: But the quarterback situation is just real weird.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: Real weird.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and we'll see.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they've certainly made themselves appointment viewing for whatever they play this weekend, which I don't know when that is.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_03]: Again, Seattle.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, oh, that's right.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: So we have to weirdly root for them.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: they need to it needs to work only in so far as they catch this yes there we go and then in the next week the nine is like oh we see what the 44 year old man is doing and they stop them they plan good plan look at us continuing to be strong at this
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so it was a busy week for the 49ers and non- 49ers related stuff.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: So before we go any further and get into more about the game, just real quick rundown, every new mention, the fact the 49ers are playing the Titans on Sunday.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like I buried the lead on that particular thing.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: The Titans are, um, they've won two games.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: They've won two games, one of them was against the Browns last week, so that's cool for them.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're, you know, playing on a winning streak, maybe we'll see how that goes.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: So let's look at the injury report.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: As I said, we are doing this a little bit earlier in the week, so...
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: was a little bit more difficult.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: We have one day of practice to go off of but here but here's what we got.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: Tatum Athune didn't practice on Wednesday with his high ankle sprain.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle U's check was limited with the ribs.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's heading in the right direction.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: As I said Nick Martin still in the concussion protocol he did not practice.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Sam Okohanu still not practicing on his high ankle sprain but the good news is that we got full
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Kevin given Christian McAfrey, Trent Williams, all missed practice, but it was not interrelated.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: So obviously, I think the one so watched there, Bethune, and I'd really say all the defensive guys there, Bethune, and Nick Martin, and Okuwano would be the guys to keep an eye on because, you know, they could use some reinforcements there for sure.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely, especially I think
- 30:41[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, who want it would be here as you give in our continuing discussion of the defensive line.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Sam, I was been good, like, as good as you, I think you could expect him to be, like, we should, I think if I remember correctly, like, they just signed him off the practice squad, like last year or two years ago, and he's a revelation.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: So like, it's crazy how like reliant this team is on having him like,
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, around right now, but like that'll be huge, but to obviously like, I mean, he was playing at an exceptional level at middle linebacker, just quite impressive, I think, given just how, like, when like Fred Warner got her we were like, oh, man, like, middle linebacker play and that's a sure anymore, like he kept up that mantle pretty pretty well, that'll be huge, but I mean, pass rush, I think it's the real need and Nick Martin,
- 31:38[SPEAKER_03]: I think there was there's slowly been trying to like, easy men.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_03]: It helps slash herds.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_03]: It hurts the defense, but helps Nick Martin.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_03]: That the like three safety packages haven't worked as well because the third safety has not been playing all that well, whoever it is whenever they're in it.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: And like Luke Gifford is just not very good at like defense.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's a great special team's player.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: But I think there's like, it's just like pretty clear that like in coverage, he can be, he can be a tack.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_03]: So Martin has an opportunity and I think if he's healthy, he'll definitely see him on the field.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully he can, like everything sort of resolves itself and he can get those snaps and sort of try to reclaim his rookie year.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: For the Titans, um, they had a bunch of players who were resting, uh, Titan Jig Aquanio Aquanuo.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, uh, running back Tony Pollard defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons, and guard Kevin Zitler.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: All mispractices because just resting Jalen armor Davis the corner back has an Achilles injury He was limited Lloyd cushion barrier the third the center has a foot injury.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: He is limited Dan more junior That's just very kind of an interesting name Dan more junior now for the tackle.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was limited
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: or he had a full back to see his neck injury.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then did not practice due to other things.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: Defensive NCJ Ravinal has a toe injury.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't practice Shied Tuttle.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was a defensive tackle.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: He was in the concussion protocol that he is full go there and then linebacker James Williams didn't practice due to an illness.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta say.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_03]: uh... not familiar with many of these players on the tenancy titans uh... i was for various reasons uh... come up with anything stand out to you like we have a good sense of like oh that like sceicler is a name i'm familiar with i believe he's like a starting guard for them i think so could be could be big but i think as you mentioned it wasn't related to injury i think beyond i like i don't know
- 33:56[SPEAKER_03]: But to be fair, there's I don't know the Titans like roster like that right now, unfortunately, yep, the names I know were not on that list, so in that sense, it's it's not great for the 49ers in so far as they'll probably be facing a fairly like fully healthy Titans team, such as a disk, such as it is indeed,
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, but in all seriousness, let's talk about the Titans game and we'll do that by talking about our reasons for optimism and our reasons for concern.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oksha, as I will let you begin with your reasons for optimism.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_03]: So Robert, of the teams the 49ers have played so far this year.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: Who do you think the two worst have been?
- 34:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh goodness, um, hold on.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: Two or three worst, uh, kernels.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I, I guess the, the Falcons in Cleveland.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: I guess would be the bottom three.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the Saints.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry would be more probably more than than the Falcons.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: Would you like to guess to go while guess who are the only two teams that the Titans have beaten this year?
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I know they beat the Browns because they just beat them on Sunday.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: Did they beat the Cardinals earlier this year?
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: They beat the Cardinals and even that game required some like massive fourth quarter come back.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: My point is the Titans are not very good.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_03]: They've been playing better recently,
- 35:50[SPEAKER_03]: And they had not played well against good football teams.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_03]: They played Seattle close.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, a couple of weeks ago.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_03]: But really, that was like, that was like a second quarter, second half sort of like, I let him back in, sort of, not really a game where I think Seattle was ever constrained, they were going to lose.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_03]: But like, point is they're probably not as bad as the record states kind of recently,
- 36:19[SPEAKER_03]: that's not saying much because who boy?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_03]: They're, I mean, offensively, they are last in the NFL in Yars per game, Yars per play.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_03]: He rushing Yars per game, they're 31st.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_03]: They're 31st in passing Yars per game.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_03]: They're last in the NFL in passing Yars per play.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: They've gotten SACTA 11.2% or like,
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: They get the least first downs.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they're worth it on third downs.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: They average like 15 to 16 points of game.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, there are some pieces you have to be worried about and I'll get into that, but like,
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: By and large, this is just not a threatening offense, which is really good for the 49ers because the defense is where I think you'd be most concerned, but I just like, I don't see the Titans posing a real threat to the 49ers defense given like their own offensive struggles and then I just think like talent wise on offense, the nine or should be able to pull away.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_03]: I think definitively across the board, they're just a better team.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_03]: And I think they absolutely should see that play out a home game off the buy.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: There's no excuse for like this game to be closed.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_01]: Um, first of all, sorry.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: I got slightly distracted while I was listening, but I was still wondering who is scoring fewer than 15 and a half points per game.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: I just need like, because they're only 31st in points per game.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so I really need to know who it is that is worse than them.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: I have my
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: suspicions lost big as so that was going to say Speaking of Pete Carroll maybe he made a bad decision.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: He should as a state retired Just throw them out there.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, anyway.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, this is a pretty bad tight and steam.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously they were they were the worst team in the NFL last year It's maybe you know as you've said little inklings of improvement here and there
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: But then they've just, like, you know, they've gotten, they've gotten shut out once this season.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, granted it was against Houston, so that's not terribly embarrassing, at least in the worst way.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: They did beat the Cardinals that was by one whole point.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: They even lost the Raiders, the aforementioned Raiders who held them the 10 points and scored 20 on their own.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: So, um,
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just it's just been real bad.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you noted they've been playing better of late.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think if of late you mean one week because previous to their win over the Browns, they lost 25 to three over it's a jackson bill.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, sandwiched in, you know, in between that gaming and Seattle that you mentioned.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: They only lost by three to Houston the second time coming off there by week a couple of weeks ago.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, there's some, there's some things you look at, you know, like, maybe there's something here.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the cam ward is looked particularly impressive as a rookie in a lot of ways.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's completing under 60% of its passes, he has nine touchdowns against seven
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's taken 49 sacks, which is a lot, 10% of the time he drops back and gets sacked.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, you know, this is what you expect right when a number one overall quarterback gets picked by a team.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's because they're bad and the likelihood is that they're not going to get immediately better overnight.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think the trouble is you kind of look at the rest of the team and you're like, where are?
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: The long term plays because there's just not there's not a whole lot else there next because next to camward we're like here's the like it's going to be camward and it's going to be this guy is going to be that guy.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: who are gonna be there long term because a lot of their other like position guys, like Tony Pollard is their running back.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's 28 years old, Calvin Ridley is on this team.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's 31, fan Jefferson is on this team.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's 29, Tyler Lockett is on this team.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_01]: Gosh, what a terrible decision he made.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_01]: Once he got released from the C-Ox, he went the other direction, he's 33.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like young players on this team next to Cam Ward, who you're like, oh, well, there's the next blicks and line of guys who will be with him as this team gets better, at least on offense.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: There might be a few pieces on the defense that might make you feel a little better.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: But even then, Jeffrey Simmons, who's probably their best defense player, he's 28.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of guys on the team.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: interesting players here, but it's not it's it's it's a weird team because they're not very good, they're not exactly like young and bad.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: They're just kind of just bad.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, that sounds right.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like Jeffrey Simmons would be a great future for you,
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: has been like derailed multiple times and then getting started with like firing like fabled and like and then they've been ranked right now.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_03]: Right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right
- 42:33[SPEAKER_03]: You didn't mention some names that are a little concerning, namely Jeffrey Simmons, pretty good of football, pretty good impression of the pastor, Lagerius need, I don't even think he's healthy in playing.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_03]: He's not played very well for Tennessee, but he did give the 49ers a lot of problems in their latest Super Bowl.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_03]: So that's a name.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_03]: And then on offense, you know,
- 43:02[SPEAKER_03]: But like he is explosive and a dual threat quarterback, which has always like posed an interesting question for the 49ers defenses.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_03]: And that's even before they've sort of lost their bite.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Tony Pollard rushed for like 170 yards on a brown defense that we saw like really put the clamps down on team.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_03]: So they're an NFL team,
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: Offensively exceptionally well against Cleveland I'm better than the 49ers did by far right and they beat Cleveland obviously their defense also played much worse than the 49ers defense did against Cleveland, but Like I My worry is that Their offense sort of is able to click against what is not a very good 49ers defense right now
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: And then it just sort of the game is not one the 49ers can easily control.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I don't think that's very likely.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's why the Titans are two and 11 and the 49ers are nine and four.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: But I think it's possible.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's the real concern.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: So that would be my reason for concern.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's just that like, yeah.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_03]: There's a spark in that Titans offense that I think could catch fire against the 49ers
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well Jerry's need by the way as I'm played for a couple of weeks.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: So he's you're good, but yeah, I think I'm right there with you like the Jesuit Jeffrey Simmons of it all and his ability to like cause problems on the defensive line.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: Now again, it's not.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of him and then a bunch of other guys like Sebastian just as day plays for this for this team.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually ardent keys also on this team.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, a couple of former 49ers.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so there's some decent players on this on this defense.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that the Tony Pollard, sudden like, I don't know where like they ran for 184 yards last week against the Browns.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: They hadn't run for more than 113 in a game before that and had only rushed for 100 plus yards twice all season long leading up to that game as a team.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: And the other time was 109, and that was against the Rams in week two.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: Their Russian totals of that are all under 90 arts.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: As someone who has Tony Pollard on his fantasy team, I'm well aware of that result, but it's very inconsistent.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you're right.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm we're going to get to like our predictions in just a second.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't think either of us are going to predict this game on the basis that the Titans are going to explode like that offensively, but
- 46:16[SPEAKER_03]: It would be a different thing like if they were playing the rate if the manager playing the Raiders I would I would not have the same concern quite frankly because the Raiders just have not proven at any point this year Right, that they can feel the comps and offence.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_01]: I just do it when they beat in the Titans I mean even 20 it is 20 that's and yeah, yeah
- 46:39[SPEAKER_03]: I'm, I can't just get it.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: Well, no, I'm trying to like get my brain out of the hype.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: But like, you know, it's, it's, you have to be worried that like, they have the capacity of sort of like getting that explosive play with, like, with their dynamic players, which they have.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this is not like a, a 49ers, like, I don't try to think about,
- 47:09[SPEAKER_03]: There's been times right, the 49ers have simply had no one on offense, but it's not like one of those things where you're like, oh, wow, there's like no talent here, there's no one that can stress a defense, I don't think that's true, I think it's just a team that like, frankly, like has not played very well, but that sort of, it means that it's possible, especially against a 49ers defense, that is like not very good.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: unfortunately, like does quite well in terms of like scoring, but it's not like underlying very strong that you sort of worry that the rug will go pull down to out under from them in terms of how they're able to keep this going.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_03]: And I think given the way that the Titans play
- 48:07[SPEAKER_03]: It's better than playing a team that's scoring like 31 points with ease, but against this 49er's defense, I don't know how much it like, it comforts me.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: But it must do enough.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_03]: And what my prediction is going to be.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I was going to point out is that while they have not been
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: very good on offense in really any way shape or form.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: What they haven't done a lot of is turn the ball over.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're actually 13th in the NFL and turn over percentage from an offense of perspective.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: They only turn the ball over 11.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's a turn over rate of 11.4%, which is not terribly high.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned Game Ward only is nine touchdowns against seven interceptions.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: the touchdown to, you know, the touchdown to the interception ratio is not great.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: Just basically because he hasn't done that, done a whole lot really at all, but as far as fun bulls, it's interesting.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't turned the wheel over very often, but camoort also has team leading nine
- 49:12[SPEAKER_01]: But that's just like, tumble, just like, but they haven't lost too many of them, I think, is the thing.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: So they've only turned them all over.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's been consistently one time for a week, but they haven't not been a lot of times, you see with really bad teams, it's just like, consistent to plus multiple turnovers per game.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: And they just haven't had that.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it's kind of kept them in the game.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: In games that they might not have been in, otherwise.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the two games that they won, they won the turnover battle.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, in that case, they force three three turnovers against Arizona turn the ball over twice themselves.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: They force two against the Browns and only turn the ball over once in that game.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: So it's something to watch out for like if they can get there, like the worst case in area here is and if you're kind of looting to as
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: they're able to run the ball effectively, they don't turn the ball over, and the 49ers often just isn't on the field very often, and it's an uncomfortably close game.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think where, where you just like, I don't really like where this is going, and maybe they still lose, but it's not a fun, but not a fun thing to watch.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's right, like, I think so, we should say,
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: The 49ers cannot lose this game.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_03]: No, like, they absolutely cannot lose this game.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, we've been talking all like, oh, like, they could get the number one cedar, what if they lose this game?
- 50:41[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, the entire sort of like conversation flips on there, oh, they got to like, probably when one of those games gets the bears to see Hacks, or to make the playoff.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_03]: So, like,
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's a big game in so far as given how like type the NFC playoff picture is you have to bank these so like it's a high pressure game And I think like in other worlds you would think of this game as being like a trap game maybe and we've seen the 49ers to come to trap games before but I don't know if you can consider this a trap game because it's like a playoff game
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: games up until whenever they get eliminated or if they never get eliminated or a playoff games for them basically yeah yeah I think that's right um they have to win as many games they've possibly gained they have four games left um three of them
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, one of them is against a team that's definitely going to make the playoffs to against teams that at this point are in the playoff hunt and one that is decidedly not, but the only way that they, you know, the way to that they're going to get to like the highest seating that they want to get is by winning all four of these games.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like if they lose any of these games, not only are they putting the whole playoffs in jeopardy to begin with, but they're putting themselves in a worse position than they would be otherwise, like if they want to
- 52:30[SPEAKER_01]: play a home game in the in the playoffs like then they're going to need to win all these games in that that's the way it's going to go now that the good news is this is a home game they play the cults in any inapolis next Monday and the Monday after after that and then they finish off with two home games at the end of the season so three of the last four at home.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so that's, that's good.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it's a little unfortunate that the one-away game is a Monday night leading into a Sunday night game at home, but that's such as the way.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and there's always the possibility that Seattle game could be flexed to the Sunday night game, depending on how it works out.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's certainly going to, it's going to, it's going to have some, some value I would think no, no, no doubt about it.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_03]: If the Rams lose to Seattle, 100% I guarantee you,
- 53:21[SPEAKER_03]: because imagine if NBC could recapture 2019, I think they jump at the possibility.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: That must be one of their better season ending games to like, they broadcast with the Drake Greenlaw like it at the Goline.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, part of what's made the 49ers so good this year is that they haven't lost these like,
- 53:49[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, they probably should have won these games games like the only one that I think you can be a little like if you're honest like the Jacksonville game, the probably shouldn't one.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yep, but like Jacksonville is a good team like that game was stupid in the way it played the way it played out was done, but like Jacksonville is objectively like a playoff team.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so that's the way like that's it's an excusable loss if not like an enjoyable one.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that one is the only one you look at and you go well and in the Houston game to to a certain extent it kind of was like they got beaten up on defense in that game right or the Houston the Texans defense beat up on their offense and so it made a really difficult.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you could certainly look at both those games and go.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you play a little better here.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_01]: You play like the other two game.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: The buck and ears and the other Rams game, it's just like they just got there.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: They got blown out of the water, like pretty decidedly when it was all set and done.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: But the Jacksonville game especially and a little bit the Houston game, I think you look at it and go, hey, maybe you play a little bit better.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: You could win one of those games, maybe both of them, and you're looking at it completely different season.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, we've kind of gone away from the Titans.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think all that to say, um, they cannot overlook this.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: This game.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think they will.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think they, I think they're coming off a buy.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think they recognize that this is important.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and they can't lose again.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: And as I, as I heard Matt Mayocos say, uh, there's, you know, they have to remember that the Super Bowl is played at Levi Stadium.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_01]: And if they get somehow get the number one seed,
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: starting with that bear's game, they would never have to leave their homes for the rest of the year.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's all the way all the way to the end.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's that's pretty neat.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_03]: I look.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's a type dream, but it is but it is crazy to think about.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like, from what I understand about like NFL teams and the way in
- 55:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's that's worth fighting for for sure.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again, it's not the likely it's outcome given where things stand and the teams in front of them and all that kind of all that kind of stuff but imagine like
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: They play Chicago, they play Seattle both at home, and then they get a buy, and then they play divisional game, NFC championship game Super Bowl.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's five straight games at home, and what, six out of the last seven, including a Super Bowl, we're getting ahead of ourselves, but we digress.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, OX has, I think we both know who's gonna win this game, Homer is a must-ide.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: I guess the question is, the 49ers are at last checked 12 and a half point favorites here.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: I guess the question is, do we think they're going to cover that 12 and a half point spread?
- 56:48[SPEAKER_03]: So, like I like to mention every time we're talking about our underdog programmers, don't trust me on these things.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not very, I'm not very good at them.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_03]: like use your own discretion.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not giving advice.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yes.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_03]: 100%.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_03]: I like, I don't think this game is going to be close for a second.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think coming off the buy, especially there's just so much in like being rested and with juvenated and being a home, like I have this game at
- 57:19[SPEAKER_03]: 42 to 10 I think like I truly don't see the 49ers being challenged I think they could be like as we mentioned they definitely could be challenged but I just don't see it happening.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I mean I didn't go quite that high but I said 34 to nine so I'm right there kind of right there with you and it's like they're they're just going to like blow the doors off the
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, obviously they scored a lot of points against the Panthers, right?
- 57:53[SPEAKER_03]: Um, no, I guess the Cardinals.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: Cardinals.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: The Cardinals game.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: They scored 30 something.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but because of the the health and all this stuff with the team all year, it's just been real fits and starts with the offense all year long.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, yeah, it'd be great.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if they scored 40 points at the, maybe, incredible.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um,
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, I just think, no matter which way you look at it, I think they're, they're just going to walk in and I just really expect them to kind of like put their foot on the gas and just kind of just blow this team out of the water and and be like, hey, we're, we're really good.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_01]: So they did score 41 against the cardinals, you're right.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: Are we thinking three fuel goals touch them is safety mixed actual point.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, three Films three field goals.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_01]: Or yeah, or maybe they miss maybe they go for they get a fuel goal early in the game They go for two and they miss it something like that.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think outside the box I put 10 initially and I was like nine is fun
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they'll be a square gummy.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: Big favor that, probably not, but there we go.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'll cause any final thoughts on this, before we wrap it up.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think just like sort of reiterating some of the things that both said about the importance of this game, like this game is really important because the 49ers have to keep pace with the rest of the NFC and sort of solidifying their playoff spot and in an ideal world getting so much more like,
- 59:32[SPEAKER_03]: closer to potentially like for a strong vibe, everything breaks right a home game and divisional title.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like there's a lot on the line.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_03]: I also think though like this is an opportunity for them to continue to play as well as they've been playing against teams like the like the Titans and I think it'll be a fun game if you're a 49er span, that's always fun.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_03]: Be nice to see them flex their muscles a bit.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_03]: NFC play off teams.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_03]: They haven't had that moment yet where they like walk off the field and you're like, oh, yeah, like these guys can do some damage.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_03]: That's like you said because of the injuries.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully, they get they start their assent towards being like a juggernaut in this last like stretch of the season against Titans and I don't know, it'll be fun.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_03]: I'm excited to excited to see some 49ers football again.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_01]: absolutely well said as always um well we will be back after the game to break it all down for you and to talk about
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_01]: how it went, but until then, we want to say thanks to you for listening to this episode of the 9 or noise podcast, part of the fancited podcast network.
